would you be down to give me a rough outline of how Prowl has been characterized over the publication history of the tf comics? I mean, in as far as you know about it. Every time you mention the costa stuff it makes me curious
I can try! I can't really drill down well without a thing to focus on specifically, but here are some general highlights.
Furman (and stuff that directly draws from Furman's run, like AHM as a whole) characterizes him basically as he did when writing Marvel G1, and gives him so little to do that not very much really comes out even then. Uptight, stick-in-his-ass, still a basically Good Guy TM and while he puts people's backs up a little, he's not under any level of suspicion. This is the closest to continuity-agnostic "fanon Prowl" you get in IDW, because that fanon figure draws quite a lot on the Marvel G1 characterization (when it isn't simply making things up wholesale, anyway). Furman copies his own homework, basically, lmao.
Roche is the guy who wrote phase two Prowl into existence as we know him. Rather infamously because he thought it was an interesting take on the character to er, ignore all the above stuff and make the Autobot SIC a rat bastard, lmao. Roche and Barber's interpretations came to dominate the character in IDW going forward, but they do differ. Roche's Prowl is more isolated from other characters (one does not really imagine Wreckers Prowl calling Bumblebee his best friend sincerely, as exRiD Prowl does), and people treat him as disliked by default. Even before the worst of what he does comes out, his reputation precedes him. Also, Roche's Prowl speaks fairly neutrally, whereas exRiD Prowl speaks more casually than fandom tends to admit to! Finally, Roche's Prowl is less spontaneously, outwardly emotional than Barber's is later on, and tends to fit the fanon stereotype of "always restrained" more.
Costa came in post-AHM but pre-Wreckers and hated all that, so he retconned it. LMAO. His Prowl is the archetype of the "good cop" protagonist surrounded by corruption, combined with surface level noir tropes that sort of work in tandem with those but lacking any grit. (Costa seems to understand what noir looks and sounds like, but none of the underlying narrative devices that make it function as noir.) This Prowl is specifically supposed to be (here's the retcon) someone who used to be more deliberately cold, removed and logical but who has specifically decided to change to be different following his experiences on Earth. (Spotlight: Prowl is a good one-issue explanation of Costa's perspective on Prowl, which is not the same as being a good comic.) As time goes on, the sheer unpopularity of this take pushed Costa to undo it a bit, and reintroduce some level of ambivalence to him... but by and large he remains kind of the "good authority figure who objects when the systems are misused" type, almost? His conflict with Spike is very much over the fact he expected better of Spike, see.
Barber's Prowl notably does not wholly throw the Costa stuff out the window. (This is why the Spike stuff features a lot; it's really the only strong emotional hook Costa's work gives you for his version of the character to grab at.) But Prowl is back to being a morally gray figure whose moral ambivalence is very strongly tied to his role as an authority figure- and that's worth mentioning. Prowl's downward spiral being intrinsically linked to his refusal to relinquish authority, and his abuse of it, is something that is all Barber and not Roche. (In Wreckers, Prowl is an asshole because of personal arrogance. In exRiD, he's more an asshole because of his role enabling a wider system, by the end. IMO that's a big difference, anyway.) He is not starting off exRiD loathed by absolutely everyone, or a figure of preexisting serious mistrust. That's something that develops over the course of the comic as things come to light for the characters in-universe, meaning exRiD Prowl feels like he's put up a more convincing shield in front of his worse dealings over the course of the war, perhaps. His position deteriorates significantly over the comic. He is more prone to balancing his deliberate cold-heartedness with angry or emotional outbursts than we saw in Wreckers, leading to him having multiple outbursts that worsen his situation over the course of the comic. This is the Prowl who holds grudges.
Roberts' Prowl is kind of different to talk about to the above because his Prowl in Shadowplay and his Prowl in Titans Return are different genres. I can do a post on that if folks really want but it probably is its own post, haha.
IDK feel free to clarify any specific stuff you'd like a vibe on if you want, this is all just what came to my mind instinctively!

I always enjoyed reading LO, though as of late I've gotten more critical of it and aware of the flaws in storytelling, art, pacing, etc (one can still like trash while recognizing it's trash, I guess), and it's been super weird being the only one in my friend group who's not seeing it as this perfect flawless comic anymore. Your retelling so far has been super refreshing and a joy to read, the art and character design is recognizable yet distinct and great on its own (I LOVE YOUR DIONYSUS SO MUCH HOLY CRAP HE'S SO GOOD), and like... I'm interested in where things are going! It's fun reading this! I still do enjoy LO (maybe it's the sunk cost fallacy, idk), but I'm invested in your version so much more now. So thank you for your work, it's really great :)
I know the story is focused more on H&P than the mostly cast of side characters, but are there any other myths that might get revisited as well? Eros/Psyche, maybe Ariadne since Dio is here...?
Absolutely, I say it a lot when the topic of "LO stans vs. LO critics" comes up but none of the criticism is meant to be persuasive debating, while it can be frustrating to voice our criticisms and be met with "yeah well that's just your opinion", we're also not criticizing the comic purely to convince you that it's trash, we're legit just engaging with the comic in our own way. The best way any LO fan can react to it is either to acknowledge the criticisms and move on, or not go out actively seeking the criticism in the first place if it's something that bugs them. But in the end, no one is talking about the comic in this way as a means to strong arm people into riffing on LO, we'll still be talking about it way past everyone's bedtimes regardless of whether or not you chime in and/or agree. I think a lot of people who enjoy LO have a hard time separating those two things because they love the comic so much that any criticism is automatically flagged as "they're trying to make a hater out of me". And yeah, maybe we are a little bit (because it's fun to riff on this comic and the crit community has genuinely some of the nicest and funniest and most creative people I've ever met) but for the most part it's not our goal to make you hate the comic, we can't take your enjoyment of it away from you, even if you do recognize its flaws yourself. By all means, enjoy LO if you want to, we won't try and tell you not to! Just don't think that gives you permission to tell the critics to stop criticizing because that's a double standard we just ain't gonna stand for LMAO
All that aside, I'm glad you're enjoying Rekindled! As for the other stories, I'm trying to reel in Rekindled's plot to focus solely on H x P because I feel like that's what it should have stayed as. One of Rachel's biggest mistakes IMO was when she stated she "wanted to include as many myths as possible" because it's clear it's resulted in her prioritizing low effort Google-level lip service and Marvel-esque nostalgia referencing over telling an actual cohesive story. I'm taking a lot of the additional myths that Rachel tried to do in LO and leaving them on the cutting room floor, but when Rekindled is done, I'm hoping to pick up what was discarded and do them as little side stories after the fact. I feel like that's the best way to do it especially considering so many of the myths Rachel included didn't happen until after Hades and Persephone were married (including Eros and Psyche). I'd especially love to tackle Orpheus and Eurydice, it's one of my favorite myths :) Dio x Ariadne is also one I'm hoping to tackle, though that one I'll probably work more into Rekindled itself as Dio plays a huge role in Persephone's character arc, we'll see !

Come hate the loki show w me anyone send me asks ab the show and I'll tell u why I hate it-
Are you still up for ranting bcs my little bro said verbatim "everyone agrees it's the best marvel show disney has made and the best character development" but also has given absolutely no reason why. He says things like Loki being forcefully stripped naked, the TVA having more focus than Loki in his own show, etc. doesn't matter bcs "Loki seemed chill with it" and "it all worked out in the end"
He's still young but it worries me that he seems to genuinely have no media literacy or understand why things like sexual assault shouldn't be a "haha" funny scene and I feel like I might tear out his hair if I have to listen to more of his "it doesn't matter", "idk what your point is" bs
I ABSOLUTELY AM!!
1. I do have a lot of concern with media literacy and how it's been affected by the internet and this scene is such a good showcase of it. Hopefully he grows out of it bc i know I was also super blunt, but it rlly is concerning how many people don't see this as an issue. Compared with Thor being stripped in tlat it is super concerning how Loki reacts eith being forcefully stripped naked.
Thor gives 0 shits, and even asks his ex later if she liked seeing his ass
Loki on the other hand is being stripped of his identity and autonomy.
2. It is absolutely not the best marvel show 😭 I haven't finished Ms Marvel or Hawkeye but imo that title should go to either Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Wandavision and same goes with character development for Wanda and/or Bucky.
I will admit I enjoy some aspects of the show such as set design and music but the rest of it is so far from being an actual show about and for Loki that you could replace him with any other character in the mcu and it would make the same amount of, if not more, sense.
3. This is in no way trying to bash people who enjoy the show but if you rlly can't give one good reason for it being a good show other people should watch other than it having a specific trope it's probably not a good show. And definitely not the best Marvel show didney has put out.
I would love to talk ab this more if you have additional things tho bc!!!! This was v fun :>

Thoughts about Polaris and Fall of the House of X #1
This post will have SPOILERS SPOILERS YOUR MILK IS GOING TO SPOIL SPOILERS you've been given fair warning. I'm also not including pictures cause I figure you cool people have seen them already.
Background
First, some background leading up to this issue. Context matters.
Last time we saw Lorna before this issue, she was at the treehouse from Duggan's X-Men book, crying about her father's death. It took about a year after his death for readers to see that or any reaction from Lorna (which I have a very strong suspicion as to why, but will keep out of this post).
Shortly after this, Orchis burned down the treehouse. We didn't know at the time what happened to Lorna. Was she inside and burned alive? Was she out somewhere off the grid? It was a mystery. This issue answers some of those questions while leaving some gaps of what happened between then and now, which might be explained later in this series or by a future writer.
Thoughts on Issue
Throughout the issue, there's a few characters that Xavier directly contacts via telepathy asking them to leave a Cyclops break-out plan to take part in a different plan he has in mind that he says needs to be done right this moment. Lorna heads off to Knowhere before Kitty arrives to give her the go-ahead for pre-made plans.
Now, where we're at right now with this first issue, we actually don't know what prompted Lorna to head to Knowhere. The running theme of characters running off for Xavier's plan suggests Lorna may be playing a part in it, but we have no actual confirmation one way or another. No scene showing Xavier reaching out to Lorna, no scene of Lorna saying or thinking that it's something Xavier asked her to do, etc. Maybe those things happened in the background after all and Duggan just didn't waste panel time on it. Or, it could be that Lorna is simply doing this of her own accord, using what she knows to hit Orchis hard. We'll have to see in future issues as they unfold.
A second key and interesting detail is how Kitty goes to find Lorna on the island where Magneto originally operated the Brotherhood, Island M. As you can see from the wikia article, there's other interesting details (repurposing for Krakoa into Cradle Two, a history with the Ancients/Great Old Ones, etc), but I think the Magneto Brotherhood elements are the most interesting and most valuable for Lorna. We've spent the time since Magneto's death seeing Storm used as the focal character for just about everything regarding Magneto's death and legacy, including running the Brotherhood, while Lorna was shown with no reaction at all to her own father's death until the gala. So I think touches like this are a way to tell us in the gaps of the story that Lorna's been thinking about and dealing with these things in-universe even though the company wasn't properly addressing it until now.
Kitty also finding Lorna's minidress ensemble is a meaningful choice. They could've decided not to show that, but it's valuable for how it symbolically represents a change in attitude for her. From the laidback casual approach while on the X-Men book, to the warrior about to take on Orchis. Goes a long way to demonstrate Lorna as the multifaceted character she is.
Costume Thoughts
The costume change is the most visually and symbolically striking development, but I put it last because I think to put that front and center as the first (possibly only) discussion topic is a mistake.
The story is more important because keeping that focus improves Lorna's chances of doing meaningful things in future stories. Focusing TOO much on the costume runs the risk of certain people at Marvel thinking that she doesn't need anything more than a fresh coat of paint.
I think it's Lorna's best costume to date. Not that it's the best of her potential for costumes, as I think there's a lot of things they could do or change to make it better. But of what's been done so far, it's the best IMO.
Her headgear design is apparent with the helmet. The helmet itself is reminiscent of Magneto without being just a duplicate of his helmet. On repeated views, I've come to notice that it's a neat concept for a helmet - whereas Magneto's covers all, Lorna's leaves her ears exposed and allows her hair to come out the back. It feels like a meaningful evolution from her tiara that keeps her character identity intact.
The varying shades of green do a great job of mixing up her color without undermining her core of green. It retains her cape too, and I've said before that I think her headgear design and her cape are the two most important visual identifiers she has.
The one thing I can say right now that I wish it did differently is her bodysuit. Especially in this scenario, I wish it looked more like battle armor. She's going to war, and battle armor can be a powerful intimidation factor (aside from being greatly protective when augmented by her powers). But what's here is still good.
And that's all I've got for this round! I encourage buying and reading this one.

i know i made a joke post last night about my "takes" regarding the finale, but here's a most serious post detailing my takes on the season + finale, as well as where it leaves my portrayal for jordan and this blog. spoilers under the cut!
season takes;
i really enjoyed this first season. as a college student myself, i found myself relating quite a bit with the dialogue + the way the characters act. granted, i'm not a supe (thank god) but... it felt real in ways that not every teenage/college based show does. so kudos to amazon for that.
big fan of limoreau!!! (yes that's the ship name, i did my research for this post...) love the enemies-to-lovers trope, but i do wish they'd had a slight better build-up. i feel like their relationship, imo, was a little rushed + came out of nowhere but... it's a queer relationship so you know what, i'll let it slide
finale takes;
loosely spoke to zawn about this last night, but i do think jordan could have taken sam in the beginning scene. i don't think it would've ended well, but i do think jordan is the only one out of the group with the abilities to actually... fight sam. (but i think there will come a time where... they won't be able to. like sam is going to become too powerful.)
big fan of cate + sam joining the seven. not only from a story standpoint, but also just keeping longevity for the franchise type of way? marvel (their movies) really failed at bringing in their new/younger cast and making them feel embedded in the story, which they're ultimately paying for now. i feel like the boys franchise is trying to avoid that and they've done in properly, imo, so far.
loved the finale coming full circle: jordan beginning the season protecting/saving marie, marie ending the season protecting/saving jordan. truly a moment for television history imo. but my god why was jordan walking so slow across that grass...
i do believe the theory that the godolkin crew is being held by victoria. it only makes sense to me, and i just saw a reddit post saying andre is even holding a phone in the scene. i don't think vought would allow their prisoners to have a cellphone. so yes, i believe victoria has them because it's in her best interests to keep marie and co. alive!
where it leaves my blog + portrayal;
as far as my default/main verse goes: i'll probably make it pre-series. just off the basis of, once you enter the timeframe of the season, it's literally day-after-day stuff. i literally think this whole season takes place in the span of 2 weeks? like literally in canon?
activity will still remain consistent, but since the season is done airing, i do want to start returning to some of my other blogs that've been put on the backburner (@the2000bug for starters, where yes— i will be adding more characters from gen v)
if i do write threads post-season, i'll run under the theory that the crew is being held by victoria! at least until stated/proven otherwise.
jordan is over this shit yall: thats the main take away

I have to ask what happened to Atleza, did she get retconned out of existence or was there a comic I missed. It seems like a wasted opportunity for Adam and Gamora.
The answer is neither! As far as we're aware, she does still technically exist; she just hasn't been so much as referenced since Thanos (2003) & Marvel: The End.
What we do know is this: before the Annihilation Wave hit, Gamora, Adam & Atleza were all happy together outside of reality (see: Thanos (2003) for this).
Then sometime right before Annihilation hits, something bad happens. "It was said that [Gamora] had been humbled by the great powers of the universe, abused... and discarded" (Annihilation: Ronan) implies that, at least from Gamora's side of things, it wasn't an overly willing choice to leave.
Adam's described as being "driven insane by the psychic agony of the souls destroyed in [Annihilation]" in Thanos Imperative: Ignition. This is also where you can see him in the same style costume he's wearing in Thanos (2003).
Adam appears in Thanos (2003) #6 where he says he's going to Gamora & Atleza. This issue comes out in Febuary of 2004. Important because in She-Hulk (2004) #7-8, Gamora & Adam appear! Together! Atleza is never even alluded to! This issue came out in September of 2004.
That whole story ends with Adam, Gamora & Pip agreeing that they'll handle who is going to rule the planet & Adam says it's going to "take a while".
Going off Gamora's mental state, I'd say this takes place before her "humbling".
From alll of this, we can assume that sometime between Adam's appearance in She-Hulk (2007) #8 and just before Annihilation: Prologue (because Gamora's already set up shop by the time the wave fully starts), that they are both pulled away from Atleza.
Adam I think is the easiest to explain; he got some prior warning of the Annihilation Wave, got dragged back, went insane before he could help out. I would say that he got dragged out when Xandar hit it, like he felt all those souls die, but Gamora had already left by then and I don't imagine Adam sitting on his ass while she's leading a cult.
Gamora's... not so easy to explain. She didn't know the Wave was coming, so she can't have left to stop it. She isn't looking for Adam... She's leading the Graces & being a little evil but it's fine she's hot enough to pull it off.
They both get to reunite at the end of Annihilation: Conquest & then they join the Guardians, have several one-on-one interactions & neither mentions the daughter that they are raising.
It's all really fucking weird, I'm not gonna lie. Events from Thanos (2003) get full on referenced later in cosmic Marvel (keeping in mind -- that's the series that reintroduced Peter Quill) so it's odd that there's a whole lot of nothing about Atleza, when it's clear from the first arc that she exists & is important to both Gamora & Adam.
But. There's a very very specific reason I've been mentioning the dates & IMO I think this is why Atleza vanished: Marvel kind of hated superhero kids in this era. Atleza's erasure happens around the same time as OMD, etc, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some editorial meddling going on there. Marvel's real shit at letting characters make big life progressions & objectively, Gamora & Adam having a daughter together is a major progression.
I don't see her getting brought anytime soon, either, or at all, if I'm being honest. Gamora regrettably takes more from the MCU nowadays than she does from her own comics history & it's at the point with her where I get excited if a writer knows what Annihilation is in general.
And because it's not gonna be mentioned for Gamora, it can't be mentioned for Adam, either.
I will say that the best shot of an Atleza namedrop, maybe even appearance, in the coming years is probably from a Ron&Ron miniseries. They're doing a lot of work with that era (the Silver Surfer & Adam Warlock minis are wonderful & I'd highly recommend them) & a follow up has already been announced. Still in the Infinity Watch era, but hey, if they continue, maybe they'll hit Atleza eventually.

So completely unrelated to the 1920s AU I felt like discussing a plot bunny I have for Aeon since I honestly don't have many mutual who even know RE let alone the video game canon lol.
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Long Kiss Goodnight and I think Ada fits perfectly as Samantha/Charlie. It's about a woman who woke up in a hospital pregnant with no memory of her life before. Her life before was as a spy for the CIA so her identity as far as she knows for 8 years is that of one of her covers as a suburban mom. Until one of her old enemies attacks her and she hires a private investigator to find out who she was. Honestly I think Luis would be perfect for that and it would be a fun Ada and Luis adventure, but here's where the Aeon comes in.
So sprinkle in a little Sarah from Orphan Black, Ada doesn't work for the CIA she works for herself as a mercenary and fell for one of her marks, Leon because he was so genuine and he's the father of her baby. In the movie Charlie struggles with her desire for wanting the suburban mom life but also not loosing herself as the badass spy and ultimately finds the balance and realizes she can be both versions of herself which i think is the reason why she had amnesia. Much like people with DID the mind creates another person to cope. Anyway I feel like that resonates with Ada so much in that she wants both but can't see how that's possible.
Anyway, sorry for the long message I just really needed to tell someone this idea brewing in my head and know of no one else who would care.
THAT'S OKAY I LOVE TALKING TO PEOPLE HEEHHEHE
i've never watched! i'll have to add it to my list!
i love mixing various character traits with others in re because i think we all kinda objectively agree that the characterization for re has been okay at best, and extremely poor at the worst lol. we got SOME that are nice and interesting, but so much of it is sidelined imo
we got a lot of leon's characterization but i would kILL for more ada
i just think ada's such an interesting character. she's flawed, but in the way that's realistic (for her circumstances) and redeemable imo. i just don't think characters (even like leon) seem real. most of the re characters feel like caricatures of people and archetypes that are written in to fill the roles required for a story.
i'd argue that jill should have really been explored more in death island and leon shouldn't have even been there. he was only there because his face on his face. like LEGIT why did he have to be there. because they wanted a big marvel meet up showdown lol
i wanna know more about ada! her motivations her desires. she really feels like she has the most potential to be more fleshed out and explored than most. and i just love the idea of her struggle with her own self image and self reflection because of the life she's lived.
i think it's clear that she probably has some sort of ptsd (similar to leon, and the others tbh although i argue leon shows it the most)(and this is one of my biggest complaints that the other characters (usually the morally good ones) aren't shown to have any sort of reaction of the horrors they see. (it makes them feel less human and just like cardboard cutouts of people)
anyways yeah i rambled sjbfsjsdfs

ok i just watched ant-man and the wasp: quantumania and i have… thoughts. this is very long. it’s also an unnecessarily deep critique of a movie about people with superpowers but i love marvel so here i go. SPOILERS BELOW
jonathan majors is an ACTOR! okay?! please don’t forget it. like that’s a black kang right there (pun intended lmao). i always love him in everything i see him in, and this is no exception. he is by far the best thing about this movie. the problem is that, for me at least, his performance is like the only thing that saves this movie.
i honestly liked the movie all the way until the end. the ending really just made no sense to me.
one, M.O.D.O.K. aka darren cross. he has literally ALWAYS been a villain. even before he got to the quantum realm, he was yellowjacket. he literally tried to kill cassie in her bedroom. then he gets sent to the quantum realm and kang gives him new life as a killing machine. a killing machine who works FOR KANG. so, let’s go over what we know: darren was “evil” before he got to the quantum realm, and with kang’s help, he essentially became even more “evil”. so please tell me why the hell cassie saying the simple words “stop being a dick” would make him evolve into a nice person? that did not make sense AT ALL. this is literally his second time trying to kill cassie, and a cute lil pep talk made him change his ways? like that was so stupid imo.
two, i feel like they nerfed kang. real bad. i haven’t read the comics (yet! i’m getting to it) but just based off of the little i know from the comics and what the movie itself told me, i know he is too powerful to be beaten by ant-man and the wasp. like i’m sorry but… that didn’t really make sense to me. when he first came down from the tower, he immediately started wiping people from existence with the blue energy coming from his hands. so we know that he is capable of killing lots of people at the same time. why would that not also apply to the ants? instead of doing what he did before, which is killing people with his energy, all he did was create a force field? and then M.O.D.O.K. comes and delivers the final dagger that blew it up. which again, does not make sense.
that brings me to the rebellion. i touched on it already, but the fact that the rebels won didn’t make sense to me. kang himself said, and i’m paraphrasing, “do you know many rebellions i have put down?” he easily put down the quantum people rebelling. but the ants is what did him in. you telling me he put down probably hundreds of rebellions, and the ants is what gets him? now i understand that the ants were able to prosper because of the damage the quantum people did to the citadel before they got there. but still. i just don’t believe that kang the conqueror gets taken down by ants.
and the ant-man and wasp vs kang fight at the end. i know that his powers were no longer working bc his suit got busted by the ants and M.O.D.O.K. but, and maybe i just don’t have the correct interpretation of kang’s power, it seemed like he should’ve been able to take hope. even with her having the guns and him being defenseless. but my critique isn’t even that hope beat and killed him during that fight, my critique is that it should’ve never gotten to that point bc realistically kang would’ve been put the rebellion down and never had his suit and powers broken.
we know what kang is capable of. we see it when janet touched his mind/ship, we saw it with the way he fought throughout the movie (kinda), we know bc of the countless worlds he’s destroyed. we even know bc how severely he thwarted the plans of his variants. “they’re afraid of me,” is what kang said. now ofc he could just be saying that in unfounded confidence, but they literally exiled him, and were happy when they found out he was dead. janet even said the quantum realm is the only place that can hold him. that to me let’s me know there is truth in what kang said.
all in all, i understand why kang was killed. its to set the scene for the other kang variants in the mcu’s future. i’m excited to see what they have planned for all of the kangs. and i just really like jonathan majors so im happy to see he’s the next big villain in the mcu. but idk, i just wish they handled the kang variant in this movie differently.
i would rate this movie a 6.5/10. i liked the quantum people, especially jentorra and quaz. i thought the baskin n robbins probability was funny. and i’ll always love seeing scott get big. i liked seeing cassie get big too. and i really liked seeing loki and mobius!! honestly i’m always gonna be bias to marvel, even when they put out objectively mediocre movies lmao. but yeah. those are my thoughts. if you made it to the end you a real one. and if you feel like it tell me your thoughts too!! alright bye

Do you think Tom could have a successful career if he based himself in London and did more British films? I don’t think we’ve seen the full extent of his talent personally. I feel Tom is not an actor to be underestimated. He just has to make the right choices for roles. He’s great in Cherry and Chaos, it’s the films themselves that lacked luster.
When you say "base himself in London" and do "more British films", are you saying basically him leaving Hollywood completely?
And what exactly is your definition of "success"?? 🤷 Because to me, Tom is already very successful. He has shown that he can do blockbuster lead roles, action roles, but also low-budget serious films/series/tv movies, theater, etc. So, I guess I'm not really understanding your question? If you would like to embellish more on what you're asking, feel free to send me another msg in my inbox. 😊
I'll agree that SOME of Tom's role choices over the past few years have been some that maybe I personally wouldn't have chosen for him, but like you said, he was always amazing in whatever project he has done, and to me, that's what matters most. When you can stand out as being the best part of a movie, then that's a GOOD thing, not a bad thing imo lol. Personally?? I think Tom's career is just fine?   🤷 I'm not exactly sure why some fans seem to harp on his career so much, or seem so disappointed in his film/role choices. To me he's doing fine! 😊 He's probably one of the most successful and promising young "leading man" actors of Generation Z (regardless of what British GQ tries to say lol 😅🤣), he's made a TON of bank money with the Sony and Marvel films and franchises, and he's well-liked and well-respected in Hollywood (which is actually a HUGE plus and will carry you far) and is basically a household name at this point. So I'm not sure what more people want from him!? 😅
I know there are mixed reviews/feelings about Chaos Walking, but I personally enjoyed it! I didn't view it too seriously... I just watched it like a light-hearted sci-fi YA movie that was just good fun. Kind of like watching "The Maze Runner" or "Divergent" franchise or something. I didn't expect anything deep or "Oscar-worthy" out of it in other words. Sometimes, some films are just good FUN, and that's okay! Not every film an actor does has to be some Oscar bait, or Oscar-worthy performance. Some scripts just speak to an actor and they want to do the role or work with a particular Director... plain and simple! 😊
But please, embellish on what you meant if I didn't quite understand your question.

The fact that we don't really know if we'll get a s2 of moon knight is bothering me so much, like PLEASE I need more you know??? I am wondering if the accident on D+ about a s2 was because they are going to do s2 but not saying anything atm so that people can still talk about it. Also I feel like because it's had high streaming (2nd highest viewership of an mcu show after falcon and winter soldier), that there would be a s2?? IDK I just feel like it would be silly of them not to do a second season, also in terms of contracts, would Oscar just do a film by film basis you reckon??
I FEEL YOU 😭 We have no guarantees or even hints at a season 2, but we all want it so bad! They really have every reason to do another season tbh. It’s so popular and imo it’s one of the best stories that they’ve told to date. And whyyyy would they leave us with that Jake cliffhanger if they aren’t going to continue that story?! 😭
I think Moon Knight will definitely be back at some point though. It’s been theorized that he could make an appearance in the Blade movie (hopefully coming out in 2023), but given that that will also be an introductory movie for Blade and (potentially) Black Knight, I’m not sure… I think the best case scenario for us is that they renew the show for a second standalone season and then start giving us team-ups in Blade or other future movies.
And about Oscar’s contract— yeah, it seems like he’s renewing on a film-by-film/season-by-season basis by choice. I can see potential benefits though, even if I hate not knowing whether he’ll be back. In an interview, he said his return hinges on positive audience response (which they definitely got) and having a good story to tell, so I think being contracted for one thing at a time could give Oscar a bit of leverage when it comes to how his character’s story goes. If he doesn’t like a future script or storyline and is unwilling to play it, it seems like Marvel wants him in the role bad enough that they’d be willing to make some changes to keep him around. I also feel like they’ll want to avoid recasting if possible, so that helps too, because I really can’t see anyone else in the role at this point. His acting stood out to me as some of the best and most mature that the MCU has had so far, so I don’t think they’d let him go easily.
But in the meantime still hoping praying wishing for an uncharacteristically rapid announcement of Moon Knight season 2 🛐🙏🤲🧎‍♀️I NEED MORE THAN 20 SECONDS OF JAKE LOCKLEY

Loki Episode 1 Thoughts
I was debating whether to write this because I feel like the episode itself kinda pointed all of it out at one point or the other but ah, what the hell, I'll write it.
First of all, I'd like to start with the fact that this episode was pretty much devoid of typical Marvel action stuff which I feel like becomes more of the norm for phase 4 and that's nice. Tbh after the last two Avengers movies, I think any attempt to top the spectacle will be kinda unnecessary at best and probably unsuccessful. This new direction of trying to explore more about the characters and their feelings might just be better. Emotional moments have been the ones that have held my attention in any and every phase 4 media so far and I hope they'll focus more on those.
Seeing them show the Infinity Stones being useless was imo one of the best parts of the MCU to date (shame that they went back to doing Infinity War + Endgame 2.0 in What If...?). And it was great to see Loki's reaction to the same. I like how it made the facade he was trying so hard to keep up just crumble. It kinda feels like it freed him tbh and that could be great for his subsequent development. I have to say that I figured out that he was projecting when he was ranting about the TVA being pathetic and I was kinda disappointed the episode went ahead and straight up confirmed it because I wanted to unpack it but now there's really no point in that.
Anyway, seeing Loki admit it was a big thing. He's been struggling his whole life with this feeling of helplessness and admitting it has been his problem all along. The realization that he was facing some people who were really powerful hit him very hard and so did the idea that he's just a supporting character, an evil for others to rise above, did as well. But I have to say that I don't agree with that. Loki may not have been a central character in the MCU but he had his own development and he also became better. Even if he still clung to the illusion of power that crumbled during the confrontation with Thanos (I'm starting to think that as much as his death hurt me, it actually makes great narrative sense). So I'm thinking his arc here will be about discarding the illusion (which he wasn't able to do in the og timeline) and managing to become even better because of that and prove he is not a supporting character in his own story. And if that's where we're going, then there really is a good point to the existence of this series. I'm not surprised by that per se but it's good to really see how it is relevant to the characters and adds more to them.
A last couple of notes. I really like Mobius so far. I think that he might not actually believe what he told Loki about Loki's purpose but did it that way in order to force Loki to come out from behind his facade. Or maybe he was just trying to get him to drop the superiority and help him. Either way I enjoyed him and his calm attitude, especially towards Loki. I don't think anyone's ever reacted like that towards Loki and their dynamic can be really fun.
Also, when the French girl pointed to the image of the devil, I totally thought that that meant some other variant of Loki was the big baddie here. They all have the horns, right? Even the crocodile (I might have spoiled some of this for myself from tumblr gifs.)

I really do think it points to jlaw being one of the last real movie stars. since dune just came out I think the are actors like timothee, florence or anya taylor joy, who aren't movie stars yet but are popular enough and have a range of mainstream and eclectic work under their belt, but jlaw also has that Zendaya draw where (im sorry) but her portfolio is not proportional to her status.
theres a lot of discussion about how nowadays the celebs aren't the stars the characters/franchises are and it's interesting that she can maintain that level of fame and recognition as other franchise stars, have critical acclaim and not have her identify as an actress exclusively connected to a specific piece of work.
You are exactly right. There is such a difference between actor vs. Movie Star. Yes!!! There is potential and Dune is a big point and it looks like it’s on track to make Oppenheimer money and hell, Cillian Murphy is one of the best actors of his generation imo and just won Best Actor and he seems like a good bloke but he isn’t a Movie Star.
Also YES you are so right for pinpointing jlaw and Zendaya??? Zendaya is a ridiculously big star. (Not in a bad way. Just not normal for Gen Z!)
Yessss!!! Like I’m not sure if it’s a formula so much as personality and luck. But I’m sure many are studying her career because movie stars are few and far between. I see the potential in so many but w the internet it is SO hard to be universally known??? And back to Zendaya about franchise work like she’s def been in mainly franchises… Disney Channel stuff, Marvel/Spiderman, Dune, and even Euphoria is a show (prestige for which she’s hella acclaimed and recognized as the best actor but still). Talent really does go a long way lol they’re mega talented women w good personalities (and fashion).
Also they don’t have like… relationship scandals? They’re public but idk. I’m loving this convo

I've seen a few comments that Mon Mothma's plotline doesn't seem to be progressing very far and she does not seem to have achieved anything whilst other characters have.
I believe that stagnation is the point. Of the three main threads, Cassian is actively working against the system from the outside, Luthen is playing on both sides, and Mon Mothma is trying to work within the system to bring the Empire down/champion rebel causes. We see both Cassian and Luthen achieve success to varying degrees, largely due to willingness to compromise and sacrifice.
Thus far Mon Mothma has been unwilling to do so and thus her attempts to progress have been stymied. I suspect in the final two episodes we will see her come to the inevitable realisation that it is not possible to bring down a broken and a corrupt system by working within its boundaries. A price must be paid.

"House of the Dragon" has actually been pretty good but guys, we need to talk about Aemond.
Tumblr media
Just fucking look at him. Look at this anime villain, Sephiroth-looking motherfucker. This dude is a fucking cartoon it's amazing. I cannot picture this guy doing anything but sitting in a castle smugly drinking wine whilst his enemies are tortured in his dungeons. I don't believe this actor is even wearing a wig, he just showed up to set one day, cheekbones designed by Tetsuya Nomura himself and the directors said "we gotta get this weirdo on our show."

I know Tumblr has largely become anti-MCU because Disney bad, Marvel bad, corporations churning out cookie cutter movies bad etc etc but please, PLEASE watch Ms. Marvel.
I say this as a 30-something cishet white man who has no real reference point for its authenticity but it is just such a wonderful family story. It's a rare comic book property where not only do the powers take a backseat to the civilian lives of the characters, but it is better for it. Yes, they diverge from Kamala's Inhuman origins in the comics but they trade it in for something imo much more personal. It touches on how damaging partition was and the generational trauma it left behind as well as the experiences of modern Muslims living in America.
Even besides that it just feels so fresh and entertaining and has a great cast of characters and the first few episodes exude Edgar Wright/Scott Pilgrim energy in the best way.
It's a great show and deserves your time.

Long post about Loki's romantic history in the comics
So, got inspired to do a little research mainly because of this: Tom Hiddleston pitched his own standalone movie in 2013 to Kevin Feige, explicitly referring to Loki and Enchantress' romantic relationship as a springboard.
Which actually confused me because my personal memory of Loki from the Bronze and Silver Age was definitely along the lines of "I think Amora and Loki worked together but I'm pretty sure Amora wasn't that interested, because Loki was an asshole and she knew it."
Turns out I was correct, buuuuut, they were a lot closer than I remembered. Especially in recent comics.
So I'm going to do a (relatively) brief overview about Loki's relationships as far as I remember. The guy fucked a lot, especially when he was evil. Latest incarnation is actually kinda more chaste imo.
BIG post, lotso images, reflection on MCU Loki at the bottom after the history lesson.
OG 616-Evil-Loki (since the 60s up till the 2000s)
For MCU new fans, imagine Classic Loki but he's purely an asshole with zero or very little redeeming qualities. That's OG evil Loki. He was always a villain, at best he sometimes helped out of selfishness, but he ended up dooming Asgard and the world the multiple times.
Tumblr media
He also fucked. A lot. Mostly as a male, not necessarily in a 'human' form.
SOME of his notable romance partners (mostly the named gods)
Angrboda (1985)
Tumblr media
Storm or Frost Giant. Mother of Fenris wolf, Jormungand the Midgard Serpent, and possibly Hela (her parentage gets really tricky after multiple reincarnations). Because Fenris and and Jormugand are several of the main constants of the Asgardians despite the multiple reincarnations from past Ragnarok cycles (in Marvel, Ragnaroks always happen and the Asgardians always reincarnate after each occurrence, with some differences.), it's suggested that Angrboda is one of Loki's oldest mates, if not THE first.
Also fun fact, it's actually suggested in the Marvel Universe book that because both Loki and Angrboda are shapeshifters, the reason their kids came out as a wolf and a serpent is because they each bear the form of the animal that their parents had assumed at the moment they were conceived. Kinky!
Angrboda only appeared once in comics and has never been depicted since, and even then she was 'dead' in her only appearance because it was in Hel. Even tho most characters connected to the Asgardians are reincarnated with them after each Ragnarok cycle, she never has been (tho her children and their respective descendants always reincarnate/persist). Which is a shame, because she has a really cool design and has lots of story potential.
She was also known as a sorceress or a witch.
Sigyn (1978)
Tumblr media
Oh boy, Sigyn. Loki wanted to seduce her, but she was already engaged and knew he was evil. So Loki killed her fiance, used illusion to take his form, tricked her, and then tricked Odin into marrying him and her. Odin tried to annul the marriage but ancient laws prevented her, so he exiled Loki and Sigyn now bound by marriage vows, went with him, so Odin declared her Goddess of Fidelity.
Sigyn was seemingly very puritan, as she stated that she could never live outside of wedlock.
What follows is a long, long history of spousal abuse. Loki resented and despised her, sometimes pretend to return her love only to mock her. Loki constantly 'cheated' on her and also did evil, Sigyn fulfilled her duty and always went with him. At some point they literally got shackled together because I think Odin wanted her to guard Loki from doing some kind of mischief.
At one point, Loki finally released her of her marriage vows and she was no longer bound by them so they finally fully parted ways.
And after her last appearance, she presumably died during one of the Ragnarok cycles and she has never appeared in print or has been referenced since.
Amora the Enchantress (1964)
Tumblr media
So basically she was like Loki, treacherous, untrustworthy, seduced men a lot, but she was relatively the better person of the two because she bordered the 'evil' spectrum. She actually minded the Apples of Idunn which gives Asgardians their immortality and did her job. She was also obsessed with getting Thor to fall in love with her constantly.
Which is why it honestly confused me when Tom mentioned her and Loki have a thing, cos I thought she wasn't interested and knew better. Which turns out, was brought up in the comics.
Tumblr media
"I can't be trusted, and you can't trust." hmmmmmmmmm
So this was the crux of it. In the bronze and silver age, Amora knew way better to get personally involved with Loki, but they did collaborate on evil time-to-time. They may have had a fling or two, seems likely.
Loki also once had a thing with Amora's sister Lorelei (Lorelei got into some love potion and fixated on Loki, who took advantage of that until he tired of her).
Also Loki deliberately created a mortal (Sylvie Lushton) with a copy of Amora's powers, looks and name just to mess with Amora. And she did actually got pissed enough to come down and test Sylvie herself before passing her and allowed her to use her name and powers.
Which brings us to them in more current comics.
Current God of Stories/Outcasts Loki (since 2011)
Tumblr media
The current incarnation of Loki (also known as Ikol, which I'll use to differentiate between him and his past self). The original evil Loki of 616 is dead and this incarnation is the current 'Loki'.
More chaotic good/neutral than evil, Ikol was born when a copy of his past evil self's soul combined with the truly innocently good Kid-Loki (who acts like a conscience).
After aging himself up, he basically decided to try to atone for his past misdeeds (he has kept all his past memories as evil Loki), and restyled himself from God of Evil and Lies, to the God of Stories, and currently is the God of Outcasts (yup, referenced by Classic Loki in Ep 5).
Quick note that the 'Loki' in publication was Kid-Loki when Hiddleston's Loki debut in Thor (2011) and Ikol had not yet 'appeared' in print. So MCU-Loki was not based on this Loki. In fact there's a scene where Ikol ages himself up (2014) and was deciding on a form based on other reality Lokis which he can view. MCU-Loki was one of the forms he saw (far left, the one with no horns).
Tumblr media
So it's possible Ikol based his appearance on MCU-Loki!
Also Ikol is the Loki who is more openly gender fluid. However, I've not seen them really switch genders much ever since they've become titled the God of Outcasts and generally being more depressing lately.
Tumblr media
Anyway, ever since Ikol reinvented himself, he's generally gotten better relationships with everyone, or at least tries to. This seems to include Amora actually being interested in him again, presumably because Ikol not being as evil as Loki means he won't try to backstab her as badly.
Notably, there was a comic event called AXIS that also included a spell that inverted everyone's alignment. Good becomes evil, evil becomes good. This affected Loki and Amora both, and they decided to get together apparently while they're both aligned 'good'.
Tumblr media
Eventually they had to undo the inversion spell, during which they did hope they would stay together after getting their alignments back to normal...but unfortunately no they didn't.
Tumblr media
And that's pretty much as far as their relationship has gotten. Basically, there IS something there, but old-Loki couldn't be trusted, and current Amora hasn't really become a better person like Ikol has become. And Ikol harbors too much guilt over past misdeeds to really get close to anyone romantically. The inversion temporarily gave them peace-of-mind to actually pursue their relationship, but it was temporary.
How does this reflect on MCU-Loki's love life?
So key thing to note, MCU-Loki debut before Ikol became the current incarnation. At the time of Tom's debut, it was Kid-Loki who was the incarnation. The inversion AXIS event happened in 2014.
Even then, somehow, Tom found the old comics showing that Enchantress and Loki had a thing and directly petitioned Feige with the idea of having her as Loki's love interest in the MCU in 2013, so kudos to him, he researched a deep cut.
The complication comes from choosing the variant-Loki angle combined with Enchantress. Like if it was a direct adaptation - i.e. Sylvie = Amora = another Asgardian, this would be easy. Alas, MCU's gotten a lot more complicated.
But, it does play into the main aspect of Amora's and Loki's relationship - that they were too similar, and knew each other too well, to ever trust each other and get into a relationship, even tho they did have an interest and had some mutual respect (pretty big deal for 616-Loki especially).
Which of course with Sylvie's backstory and status as a Loki variant, plays right into that. Two people too similar, and knowing how bad they could potentially be towards each other because they can't trust each other.
In a sense, MCU-Loki changing himself for the better in the series is similar to how Ikol chose to make himself a better person than the old him i.e. someone capable of loving unconditionally. Sylvie would be at the stage Amora is in the comics, who has lapsed into old bad habits which led to her not really growing as a person as much as Ikol.
Anyway, hope this was enlightening. It was kinda fun to go through old stuff again. Also Loki's sheer army of offspring (from his evil incarnation, but Ikol acknowledges all of them as his still) is an amazing thing to read through lol!
And to evil-Loki's credit, he tried to do right by his kids when he could, possibly his sole redeeming quality (notable story is him working with Spider-Man to save his half-mortal daughter Tess Black) Amora also has her own kids fathered by men she seduced.

luiiist asked:
The movie literally hints at all returns and a perfect set up for college trilogy. There are many different foreshadowing scenes of MJ and Peter reuniting in the next trilogy. They’re going to confirm the college trilogy after it’s box office run or a few weeks into it, just like they do for other franchises. Tom’s quotes are him not being able to say anything definitively and basically getting more money
Will Z return for the Spidey movies where he’s appearing in another movie (Venom, MOM, etc)? No. But I can say with confidence that she’ll be in the trilogy lol. A soft reboot wouldn’t work if you just never use the characters that made the suffering impactful return

@nycdoggs submitted:
I have some theories on the contract negotiations… I think as far as his career goes he’s fine with mainly being known as Spider-Man and has said that but I also think signing on to so many movies years out can be daunting. I don’t think this would have to happen this time around but iirc Chaos Walking and Uncharted are movies he was roped into by Sony contracts very early on/without the ability to read scripts first? Chaos Walking unfortunately took years to finish and flopped. It apparently kept him from being able to shoot 1917 which would’ve been great for his movie resume. Online chatter about Uncharted isn’t good but I really hope for his sake that it’s just angry Internet bros, he needs some solid recent movies outside the MCU!! Cherry showed he can act, the negative reviews weren’t about him or Ciara. Plus if he really does want a family soon, a long contract wouldn’t leave much time to do more resume building projects similar to Devil all the time or TCR on the side of shooting Spider-Man. Maybe he wants to sign to one movie at a time? All that being said the Astaire biopic is likely something they are producing for him as a nice incentive to a contract for more than one movie. Now the spoilery theory so you can split or leave out… But they set it up so that if they really don’t want to, they don’t have to associate Spider-Man with the MCU anymore. Who knows if they’d actually do that but I’ve seen the theory floated.

chanelstains asked:
I think with the whole contract situation with Marvel and Sony is literally a money thing like you mentioned. I remember seeing he’s holding out for 20 million which he can make a good case for after the official numbers for NWH gets released. Also seems that he’s more open to coming back now than probably a few weeks ago (which I’m guessing was when the people mag interview was done). He may get longer breaks between movies, maybe one every 3 years with cameos in other films.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hollander888 asked:
I don’t think it is so much about money for him, even though he defiently deserves it but I think it would be about the storyline, if they pitch a great storyline to him then he will do it, if they want to take it in a direction that he doesn’t feel is best for the character he will hang up the suit
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
moi:  Has it been confirmed that Tom is in MoM?
Tom has said he likes to do one film for himself and one for his grandfather.  We know Tom loves making Spidey movies and he gets to make them with Z.  That’s a win win.
I read Z turned down a part because they couldn’t pay her fee.
Tom, imo, has reached a point in his career where he can truly negotiate -- be it for more time off while filming (RDJ insisted on 10-hour workdays for all the cast/crew), better pay/incentives, costume zippers...
Only time will tell.  Until then, we have promising upcoming projects for both Tom and Z.

Ronnie Spector biopic
