even the idea that all lynchings supposedly done for white women’s honor were about rape allegations downplay the fact that interracial interactions were severely policed and “miscegenation” was illegal. it absolutely did not need to be as serious as rape but also it did not have to be violence at all. a black man could be lynched for living with a white woman. you could be harassed or targeted for dating an extremely light skinned black person!
