Since you mentioned "Six of Crows" have you read the duology? And if you have, how did you find the characters? Everyone idolizes them but I want to hear an honest and objective opinion.

I've read all of Grishaverse books.

When I was reading SoC, I was enjoying it immensely. It's written in a way that makes you read and read without a pause, so it's much harder to think about details, than in TGT, where Alina's constantly wallowing in bullshit. That said, reading specific quotes could prove terrifying, especially if you're used to think yourself a person with good analyzing skills.

(I completely forgot about the drüskelle wall of genocide, until I saw a post about it. Same with Nina letting Brum and his little cult go free.)

It's hard even the second time- making myself remember I'm here to look for worldbuilding details, not for the crazy ride.

My view on the characters changed too (I'm stuck on chapter 14.).

I appreciate Inej for decent portrayal of believer, who's not a fanatic or gullible fool.

Kaz is very likeable character, although I hate the fandom view- he's no social justice hero, but selfish cunt, who happens to do some nice things for other people, when it suits him.

There wasn't much of Wylan yet, and I wasn't particularly interested in him the first time around. I like him the way you like pleasant people you're not friends with. I used to ship Wesper in "Yeah, they're cute together" way, but now I suspect I did it mostly because it's the relationship Wylan wanted.

I dislike Jesper. In show (talking season one), he was the slutty bi stereotype, but reading his chapters again made me realize I don't enjoy them. He's too needy for my tastes, and cruel to Wylan.

Nina- by someone dubbed "The most Slavic character" used to be one of my favourites. Unapologetically chubby girl with taste for food? Yes please! My view on her got a bit ruined, when I was made to realize she's the Jew, who abandons her people for her Nazi bf. Then proceeds to spare Dr. Mengele TWICE, because there's humanity in these people too! (Sorry honey, I grew up in Terezín. There's no "mercy" for those, who believe other groups of people untermensch.) At the moment, I also have quite a problem with her Ravkan Crown propaganda brainwashing. I know she's fifteen and her critical thinking skills won't be fully developed yet, but mine are.

As for Matthias- he wasn't in the book much so far, but I liked his story (although I don't like the ending), only it felt too rushed. He was raised by a cult- this sort of de-programming should take more than a few weeks and love, showing him the way.

yeah I did read the books, and I totally get it actually:

Kaz wants to heal and be able to touch people without feeling like he's drowning. He's always wanted to heal because he sees his touch aversion as a weakness, of course, but it's also pretty blatantly obvious that he both wants to be able to touch Inej and wants her to be able to touch him. And he proves it by the end of CK; being able to hold Inej's hand at the harbor is one of his first steps towards healing, but why would anyone think it would be his last?

It will take Kaz and Inej quite a bit of time, healing, and effort to get to a place where they can have sex, but canon indicates on multiple occasions it's something they both think about and want. A large part of Kaz and Inej's relationship revolves around their mutual trauma related to physical touch and how they both want to heal from it, and exploring sexual desire and eventually sex (or consensual sex, in Inej's case) would inevitably be part of that journey. And fans wanting to explore that journey makes a ton of sense because it's a desire that's both implied and directly addressed at various points throughout the books.

tl;dr when people learn that Kaz's trauma (and resulting PTSD-induced touch aversion) doesn't mean he doesn't still feel those things or WANT to be with Inej in every way they can I will finally know peace

He wanted to touch her, cup her face, show some sign of affection in that regard and yet he wasn't exactly sure if she was serious, or if she was waiting for an opportunity to finally rid herself of another individual she may perceive as an enemy. He could never tell if she saw him as an ally, or simply an asset.

Spoilers for Shadow and Bone S2 (and a request for no spoilers in this reply for Six of Crows and the other books because I’m hoooooked)

OKAY BUT LIKE there’s gotta be fic out there where Kaz is sick or hurt or delirious and they need to touch him to help him (fever too high? Bleeding? Infected wound?) but he just won’t let them and he’s clearly not entirely with it (and maybe they don’t know yet that he can’t handle being touched so they think it’s just the fever or whatever) but they only get to get close when he fully passes out

When he wakes up they’re like shit kaz you were so out of it you wouldn’t let us touch you and they go to touch his shoulder or hand or something but he can’t help it he flinches just as violently away as he did before

I'm putting this one out to my followers cause I weirdly haven't read a lot of Kaz fics (I really need to though cause I love him). But I'm SURE there's got to be a fic out there for this! That sounds way to good a prompt to pass up!!
