"The Medici were not loved; they were feared. The assassins aimed at the fear factor, hoping that the Florentines would conclude that they were not invincible and would flock to the Pazzi banner. Their mistake was to underestimate the raw courage of Lorenzo, who survived their attack, and to kill Giuliano, who might have been able to lead a successful defense." - Paul Strathern, "The Medici: Power, Money, and Ambition in the Italian Renaissance"
The assassination of Giuliano de' Medici was mentioned in several primary sources from the time period, including contemporary chronicles and letters. One of the most important primary sources is the "Diary of Luca Landucci," a Florentine wool merchant who witnessed the events of the Pazzi conspiracy and recorded them in his diary. Landucci's diary provides a detailed and vivid account of the conspiracy and the events leading up to the assassination of Giuliano de' Medici.
Other primary sources that mention the assassination of Giuliano de' Medici include the letters of the Medici family, particularly those of Lorenzo de' Medici and his mother, Lucrezia Tornabuoni. These letters provide insights into the personal reactions of the Medici family to the events of the conspiracy and the death of Giuliano.
It was also a significant event in the history of Florence, as it marked the beginning of a period of political instability and violence known as the "War of the Eight Saints." In the aftermath of the conspiracy, the Medici family consolidated their power and launched a ruthless campaign of revenge against their enemies, which included the execution of many of the conspirators and their supporters.
"The Pazzi conspiracy was a daring and ambitious plot that ultimately failed, but not before claiming the life of one of Florence's most beloved sons. Giuliano de' Medici was a true Renaissance prince, cultured, handsome, and beloved by all who knew him. His death was a tragedy for Florence and a blow to the cause of humanism and progress in Italy." - Christopher Hibbert, "The House of Medici: Its Rise and Fall"

What I love about Leario and having the sun/moon dynamic in DVD is that if we use it for the two of them it makes so much sense. Leo as the sun (duh) and Riario as the moon. The moon only appears to shine because it reflects the suns light without it it falls into darkness and if that doesn’t describe how Riario is, at least in my opinion, a better person when he is around Leo then idk.

There was a historical fantasy show called Da Vinci’s Demons that dealt with Leonardo Da Vinci and and in four of the episodes he has crossed paths with Vlad The Impaler, I swear Paul Rhys played a pretty damn good Vlad, It would have been interesting if Alucard (when he was alive) had actually meet a young Leonardo.
And personally I would love to hear Crispin Freeman (In his Vlad voice) say those lines;
“God? Well he sent many punishments for mankind, earthquakes, volcanoes, plagues and cancers, but worst than these he sent the Turks and the Tartars and the Mongols like you”
“Defeat these dogs and you will go free, and please don’t think me so inhuman that I wouldn’t give you a fighting chance… here’s a butter knife”
“I miss no opportunity in reminding the Turks of the childhood they provided, this is justice”
“You see my father, he taught me that cruelty is the only true currency of the universe and now I am the richest man in all of Christendom”
“I’ve endured every drug & poison known to man, Ive fought off the Ottoman Empire, and you really think I would die at the hands of fuckin Florentine?” (It was awesome yet funny to hear Alucard say fuck)

The last two episodes on Davinci's Demons had Leonardo DaVinci face off against Dracula in fight and then saw him break into the vatican dramatically, take the pope hostage, use him to get to a vault of relics and fight his way out with the Spear of Destiny.
85% historically accurate?! Dang!
History is NEAT.

Look, I did a thing!
Summary: Just playing a bit with a 'what if' surrounding one of my favorite episodes of the whole show, Season 1-The Tower. Set immediately after Leo and Lucrezia's bathtub scene and going a smidge AU after that.

trying to single-handedly revive da vinci's demons fandom has been going on for quite a while for me, so da-vinci-posting here is long overdue. thought i'd start with leo, because this is what hooked me on the show in the first place.
Leonardo da Vinci has no shame.
Tumblr media
s01e06 madness in the dungeon, or rather an irritation so big that leo decided to become his most insufferable self, did not come from fear of his sexuality being discovered and analyzed. it came just because by assigning him a label, people tried to censor his free expression. the small-minded dared to call his chase for truth madness once again. in other words, that little shit couldn't do what he wanted anymore and oh, everyone's gonna answer for it.

it could just be ascribed to his ego, and that's what people around him call it. selfish leonardo who rebels against the world order like every other man his age. but leonardo doesn't rebel. he just finds this whole ordeal so ridiculous it irks him. curiosity leads to truth, and truth - how things work, what's their origin and purpose - puts his mind at ease. why should it be punished?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
freedom of dwelling into things and (most importantly) into his own mind. that's what society is trying to force on him. and screw the fact that most people decide to leave things alone out of fear (because it's so much easier to call everything God's misterious ways). his mind is the only thing he will not allow to imprison.
to have a freedom of thought is to be different than most and yet unrestrained. it's fighting back the society that denies simple preference. your thoughts are yours, even if you believe somebody up there knows them all. you should be allowed to have them.
to this day this is the most inspiring take on homosexuality i've ever seen in media.

Paul Giamatti first wore this distinctive red and gold costume as King John in the 2011 film Ironclad and even appears on the film’s poster. The piece went on to be used in television – first in a 2013 episode of Da Vinci’s Demons, where Ross O’Hennessy wore it as Commander Quattrone, and later in the 2017 mini-series The White Princess, when it was worn by Nicholas Audsley as Lord Strange.
