#did toshi also have a little brother. or was it his big brother that died

Note
Still can't believe All Might is canonically an orphan, another thing the English translation left out is that the specific word in Japanese he uses suggests he may have had a sibling who was also killed along with his parents. Forgot where I read it, but I was like 🤯 when I saw it.
HE HAD SIBLINGS?!?

New home, old men.
~~~
Rian smiled stiffly, gently petting Hinata's hair as he calmed himself. "Toshinori."
A smirk. "Yes, Kitten?"
"Who the fuck did you murder in order to get this house?"
Rian stared up at the literal mansion before them. A mansion that somehow happened to be nestled discreetly in the mountains, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods and wilderness. Nearby was a greenhouse, large dish-shaped solar panels, and a detached three car garage. Renovating had been the work of a few months, and this was the first time Rian had seen the property with his own eyes. The picture they'd used to let him generate the portal to get here only showed the driveway and garage.
"I'd tell you to pick your jaw up off the ground… but you'll just drop it again once you see the pool."
"Toshi…"
The tall blonde chastely kissed his nervous young husband, then also the top of his daughter's head. "Calm down, hot stuff. Nobody died… this place is legit. All bought and paid for, with paperwork and everything."
"I was there as a witness, I can vouch!" Izuku said, looking excited as he pulled things from the back of the moving truck they had rented. They'd driven into a secluded alleyway after going a few miles, then put Rian's portalling quirk to use after ensuring that the truck's gps was jammed. His recently blonde-ified hair gleamed in the sunlight.
The brunette sighed, gently bouncing Hinata and getting a few giggles out of her. "I know, I trust you guys, this is…" he glanced back at the building. "...just a very nice house."
Toshinori smiled softly, tweaking the baby girl's nose and reassuringly squeezing Rian's shoulder. "I know… if it makes you feel any better, there's only one pool. And I think we all intend to use it," The older villain said, then paused. "...I even made sure there was a gate built around it, since this little one will start walking eventually. And the security system is military-grade."
The shorter of the two grinned. "Okay… you've convinced me," he said, smiling at their daughter. "Let's go inside and see what your dad and big brother have done with the place."
Rian would admit, this was threatening to give him flashbacks. The entryway was fancy, two sets of stairs leading from the ground to a balcony-esque landing The front door was solid and a bit hefty, and upon opening it he realized that was because it had a metal core.
"Your dad isn't kidding around with the defensive measures…" he said softly to Hinata. "I guess he really does expect us to be attacked."
They continued in.
The entryway was spacious, with plenty of room for shoes and things between the door and yet another short set of stairs. To his left, there seemed to be a room divided from this open space by railing. Above, there was a walkway connecting two halves of the upper story together; a bridge with yet more railing to keep the area open.
"Toshi's a fan of open floor plans, it seems," the brunette murmured, his skin prickling slightly as he took in the number of windows he could already see. "Guess he wants this to feel different from the literal bunkers we've lived in before."
He carried Hinata up the three steps in front of them, and looked around the large great room. Directly across from the foyer was a set of sliding glass doors leading to a balcony. To the right was an open doorway, and a bit further away was a set of open French doors. Looking to the left, he saw a large and amazingly well designed kitchen that had him instantly excited to cook.
"We'll save that and go this way first!" He said, twirling the little girl and causing her to giggle. As he spun, he noticed stairs leading both up to the second story and down to a basement.
First was the doorless room, which appeared to be a parlor with a raised fireplace surrounded by stone bench, and yet another open doorway that led to what he assumed was either more parlor, or some kind of office or study. Turning back around, he realized the parlor had windows peering into the room with french doors… which had more windows than Rian had ever seen in one space. A sunroom? Or was there a different word for that?
"Holy shit, he really went all out," he murmured, then walked out of the parlor and into that room, smiling. "You'll have a lot of fun playing in here, sweety. Nice and sunny, just like you are!"
He twirled Hinata again, getting her to laugh, then went to explore the other half of the first floor.
The kitchen was still awesome, open to both the great room and a little breakfast nook that overlooked the backyard… which he refused to look at yet. Instead, he carried Hinata towards a door on the opposite end of the kitchen, which led to an enclosed Butler's pantry. On the other end of that was the downstairs bathroom, complete with a shower, and there was also a doorway into the room with the railing that overlooked the Foyer. A dining room? It seemed like it, being attached to the pantry and great room, with a great view of any guests coming in…
Just as Rian and Hinata entered the dining room, Izuku came through the front door carrying entirely too many boxes for his frame, earning a snicker from Rian. "Careful not to trip!"
"I won't!"
Toshinori came in, then, just a few steps behind, carrying some grocery bags… and two thirds of the new sectional couch. The brunette couldn't help his lingering stare at his husband's very fine muscles. And ass.
Hot damn…
Hinata babbled a little bit, causing Rian to look down, seeing her make grabby hands toward Izuku. Rian chuckled. "Let them finish carrying a few things, sweety… let's explore a bit more~"
He took his young daughter through the pantry and back out into the kitchen, once again marveling at the open counter space, large stovetop, and plenty of cabinets.
"Mmm… what's cookin', good lookin'?"
Rian snorted, turning to see his husband set the groceries down on their new counter. "Nothing yet, pretty boy… want me to start now, or should we pull out the furniture first?"
"Nah-ah-ah, leave the heavy lifting to the muscle heads. I'm considering it a part of the kids training."
Rian laughed, adjusting his grip on their daughter so she could turn and see her other dad. "You're just trying to give me time to adjust to the house…" he murmured, then blushed with a soft smile. "... Thank you for that, by the way. The big space is… a little strange for me."
"It's different enough, right?" Toshinori asked softly. Reaching over to give the little girl his big hand without looking away from the brunette. "I want our family to have plenty of space… but if this is too big for you, we can work something else out. We're well hidden in the woods, so I thought the windows would be alright, but—"
"Shhhhhhhh," Rian said, laughing slightly, gently sitting Hinata on the counter to lean over and kiss the blonde on the nose. "This is wonderful… it's a little big but…" the younger man smiled softly. "If you're around, what could I possibly be afraid of? The scenery looks beautiful here, and I'm glad I get to see so much of it with you."
Suddenly, Toshinori gave the younger man… the look. That soft smile, where his eyes crinkled at the edges, and the piercing blue calmed with unabashed affection. A look that was simultaneously enthralling and familiar, but also so rare and precious. A look that didn't suit his dark, ruggedly punk clothes and his willingness to kill and maim. A smile that belonged in another time and place… yet was somehow, regardless of such a contrary fit into reality, was meant for Rian and not another single soul.
"Kitten… you really know how to make this old man happy."
The hazel-eyed young man winked. "What, like it's hard? You smile just cause I enter a room."
"Of course I do…" Toshinori said, kissing Rian's cheek, then Hinata's forehead. "To make up for all the rooms I've been in without you."
The younger adult stifled laughter, shaking his head, just as Izuku appeared with Hina's highchair. He let the teen take charge of the giggling little girl, then started sorting out the groceries while speaking in english. "You're silly, honey-bunny."
"Only for you."
Rolling his eyes, the brunette waved the older man off. "Just hurry up and get the furniture squared, muscle-head. I'll get the meatloaf started… but then I'm going upstairs, so you better be ready to give a tour by then!"
"Of course, babe," Toshinori snickered, clapping Izuku on the shoulder and steering him back to work, much to Hinata's apparent disappointment.
okay so i have some mad BNHA headcanons, featuring DadMight and KamiDeku. it’s a little long and conspiracy-theory-like, sorry.
1. what if Inko is somehow related to Nana? like maybe Nana’s child had multiple children. two of which i headcanon to be Aizawa and Inko. so let’s say that Inko and Aizawa are siblings and each fell out with their family because of their views on superheroes/society/just in general and Aizawa left and applied to UA and Inko left a few years later when she was more financially stable.
2. Inko meets her husband Hisashi Midoriya some years later and they hit it off immediately and eventually get married. Inko gets pregnant. Hisashi works abroad.
3. i lowkey headcanon Hisashi as a villain because he “works abroad.” that’s hella vague and if i were a villain i’d try to do my villainy in a country where i’m not recognized or thought of as anything but a sad business man or smth. so yeah he’s a villain. Inko suspects a little bit but not enough to confront him...
4. so mama Inko is pregnant BUT there’s a chance it might not be Hisashi’s child o.0 i know right. so anyway yeah she hit it off with a kind blond man named Toshinori and she knows it’s wrong because she’s married but she never tells him and she thinks something might be up with Hisashi and this helps her calm down. she just says Hisashi is the father tho,,,...
5. Toshi is the father and that’s why Izu is quirkless. Toshi never finds out about Izuku possibly being his child. he reconnects with Inko when she starts training Izu, not connecting them because he knew Inko as Inko and he knows izu as Izuku Midoriya so he never thought to make the connection.
6. one day he’s chatting with Inko on a coffee date and she gets a phone call from her son (her son?! when did he have a son? how old is he? etc. etc.) and she’s like “Izuku? is everything okay?” and he chokes on his coffee because his protegee is the child of his ex,,,, and the dates kinda line up.....
7. Toshi’s like “oh, you have a son?” and she’s like “yeah his name is Izuku and i love him so so so much he’s 15 years old...” he chokes on his coffee again because holy shit is this kid his and so he asks who the father is and she starts blushing and says honestly that she doesn’t know if it’s her husband or Toshinori.
8. he’s freaking the fuck out again because holy fuck he might have a son and he suggests Izuku gets a blood test and Inko thinks he should too so they tell Izuku and now Izuku is panicking because omg All Might might be his actual dad..
9. Izuku gets the blood test and yes he IS Toshinori’s son and and Toshi looks over the blood test and finds out that Izuku is the great-grandson of Nana on his mom’s side. so suddenly Toshi is crying and Izu and Inko are panicking and so he tells Inko how he’s All Might (she almost faints because ofc the man she had an affair with and is the father of her child happens to be mfing ALL MIGHT) and he tells them both about OFA and his mentor Nana and they’re now all crying and hugging and Inko finds out that Toshi is training Izu and she says “don’t overwork him... he is your son, after all” and they all chuckle and cry even more
10. skip a few months. it’s school time and UA is starting and Izu never broke any bones because he had a closer connection to Nana through OFA and he gets the hang of it pretty quick and is jumping around like a bunny because he thinks that punches are his dad’s thing and Izu needds his own thing. his hero costume looks the same because it makes him look like a green rabbit lmao
11. at the sports festival, he gets 1st place both times because he can go super fast and he’s really precise and everything. cur to the Todoroki Talktm and he asks if Izu is All Might’s secret love shild and Izuku starts sweating and just says “that’s kinda,,, confidential information. I don’t think i can tell you anything without having you sing at least 3 documents..” and Todo’s eyes go wide because holy shit he was right and Izuku thinks Todo is either really smart or really weird.
12. Inko suddenly realizes HOLY SHIT I’M STILL MARRIED and she calls Hisashi up and says “hey, can we get a divorce? apparently Izu isn’t your son and i’m in love with the fatehr but we’re still married...” and he seemed almost happy to divorce her and Inkko thinks it’s because he can stop paying child support but he could actually be a villain... she’ll look into it later.
13. skip a few months, Aizawa and All Might come to Inko’s apartment to talk about getting the dorms set up and All Might walks in like “hey, sweetie” and kisses her on the cheek and everything and Aizawa looks appalled because All Might if you’re in a relationship the principal needs to know and why are you dating mrs. midoriya and she politely says “oh just call me Inko, i got divorced a few months ago” and aizawa is like “... Inko? is that you??” and she’s like “Shouta??!!” and surprisingly they both start crying because they’re siblings
14. so Aizawa and Inko are siblings and the grandchildren of Nana, Toshi’s mentor, and the next holder of OFA is Toshi’s son and the great-grandchild of Nana... it’s a big fucking mess.
15. they do end up talking about the dorms and such and since Inko knows that Izu’s father and uncle are there, she trusts them. Aizawa is like, “you know the families of UA teachers are allowed to live in the dorms” and Inko is like sign me the fuck up and so now she’s living with Toshi near her brother and son
16. Toshi proposes!!! he proposes at the beach and it’s all romantic and afterwards Izu and Shouta and Shouta’s boyfriend Yamada all jump out and everyoen’s crying and it’s all adorable.
17. in class, All Might lets it slip that him and Shouta are gonna be in-laws and everyone starts panicking and flipping out except for Todoroki who just rambles like a consporacy theorist and Izu who’s sweating gallons. they ask to meet her and All Might says that’s possible since she lives in the UA dorms with him.
18.Inko grees to come to the next training and Bakugou is like “ha shitty deku what’s your mom doing here” and All Might is like “meet my fiancee” and Bakugou is like “AUNTIE!??! I THOUGHT HISASHI WAS DEKU’S DAD” and Inko starts blushing because he isn’t. she whispers “he was never the father” and Bakugou flips his shit because the boy he bullied for 10 years was the goddamn son of All Might.
19. so everyone knows that Izuku is the son of All Might and when his friends ask more about it he mentions that his great-grandma was a pro hero. suddenly Kaminari says “hey didn’t All Might say that your mom was related to Aizawa?” and Izuku blushes and says that apparently Shouta is his uncle and he didn’t find out until they were telling the students’ families about the dorms and Shouta reunited with Inko. Kaminari also points out that this means Inko’s maiden name is Aizawa and Bakugou says that since he’s no longer a Midoriya because of the divorce, he could go by Aizawa Izuku. Izu tells his mom they need to change their names and she agrees.
20. Izuku shows up to school on monday with the name Aizawa Izuku on the roster and Aizawa read it and says “problem child, don’t tell me your dad told everyone about the engagement” and Izuku blushes and says that it slipped and Aizawa bangs his head on the table and says “Izuku, you get to tell my husband why i have a concussion” and everyone freaks out AGAIN because Aizawa is married?? and Izuku KNEW???!!
21. Izuku doesn’t let anything slip but when it’s time for English he tells Mic “Uncle Shouta said that if he has a concussion it’s my fault” and everyone in the class goes dead quiet and from his desk Aizawa says “i didn’t mean in front of the whole clas yu troublesome little shit, i’m telling your mom you outed me” and Izuku dies immediately out of laughter and then fear
22. he begs his uncles not to tell his mom but Aizawa puts the call on speaker and Inko’s like “Shouta, what’s up? i’m about to finish my break” and he says “your son outed mine and Mic’s relationship, expose a secret of his” and she talks about how Izuku has a crush. Izuku blushes and the class starts teasing him and Inko says “I probably shouldn’t say because the whole class is listening, but the Aizawa house always believed in ‘an eye for an eye’” and the class shuts up and Inko says “yeah he said his crush’s quirk has something to do with electricity” and you can hear a pin drop and Izuku runs out of the class to the bathroom but he really just escapes to the dorms, and once the realization hits Kaminari he fucking bolts out of the class calling out to him.
23. Inko is still on the line and she says “oh my, i didn’t know they were in the same class” and she’s sorry and she’ll have to apologize to Izuku later. class proceeds as normal except without Izu and Kaminari. they’re both back at lunch though and they’re blushing and holding hands.
24. yes they’re dating. they’re blushing because they were making out once they talked through everything. yes Inko and Yagi know. the Aizawa family also seems to have a thing for adorable blonds...,,..,.,.
25. they all live happily ever after because i’m out of ideas but yeah.,.,. that’s my take
Random Quirkless Pro Hero Deku facts
- Pro Hero Izuku has a lot of weaponry on him at all times but he’s personally a big fan of knives. He’s usually got at least 5 or 6 on him at all times in all different sizes. He likes them because they’re multi-use, intimidating and, in the hands of a skilled wielder (like Izuku definitely is) can end fights without permanent damage. His favorite knife is the one he stole off of Stain to Iida’s dismay but its just a really good knife okay, Tenya, nothing personal.
-  Todoroki is rescue hero working at Froppy’s agency in Nara (kind of the middle of nowhere). He doesn’t really get involved in the big villain battles unless he’s caught up in them, does no marketing for himself, rarely takes interviews, does his best to just be another hero... and yet he’s #20 in the charts. He is the highest ranked rescue hero who goes out of his way to avoid the spotlight and he doesn’t know why he’s so highly ranked. This is because he doesn’t understand the overwhelming power of THIRSTY fans.
- Izuku and Katsuki have a very special relationship. They read each other so well, are a well-oiled, scarily efficient team in battle. Outside of that, they’re disasters. Due to past experiences with ‘friendly spars’ that have gotten out of control they need a minimum of 2 babysitters pro heroes to spot them and be in a qualified facility before they go at it (which they don’t always do). Most every time they meet up they’ve got to rough house a bit to everyone’s horror. Bakugou will get loud and indignant if you call them friends but then rant for 30 minutes on why Deku is one of the best damn heroes he’s ever known.
- Speaking of which, on an operations level Izuku and Katsuki are much better separated than partnered. Kiri much more approachable and adds a sense of balance to Bakugou which is why he’s #1 not long after Izuku leaves. Izuku/Katsuki together were terrifying but a little bit too chaotic? They egged each other on where Kiri calms Bakugou down and Izuku forced to be “in charge” (as composed to constantly competing with Bakugou) of others also makes him less reckless. They’re still a brutally efficient combo but they’ve both agreed that separation really helped them grow.
- Gran Torino went senile not long after Izuku graduated Yuuei having fulfilled his promise to both Nana and Toshi and couldn’t fight any more. Izuku took care of him the best he can and put the old hero up in a luxurious old age home, he visited once a week watching more and more of his mentor slip away. He died when Izuku was still working at Two Hero with Bakugou and it was one of his incentives for leaving the agency and forming One For All.
- Shinsou ended up in the Hero course during their second year, but he went to 1B. Still maintained a good relationship with Izuku and the 1C gang. After graduation, he was surprised when Yaoyorozu offered him a position at her agency. He works there mainly in intelligence gathering, interrogation and general agency management. He still does field work but not nearly to the extent of other heroes.
- Shinsou and Izuku are the lowest ranked in their grade, Shinsou being in the 90s while Izuku is in the high 70s. Izuku will never let his friend forget that he, quirkless and hated by the system, is higher ranked than Shinsou. Its really because Shinsou is kind of a reclusive hero only known because he works at such a prestigious agency. If and when Shinsou decides to make an effort at his popularity it’s all over for Izuku. Until then, Izuku will lord it over him.
- As for the 1C gang, Patrick moved back to America right after graduation. He’s doing odds and ends, still trying to figure out what he wants to do. Does frequent calls/visits to Japan to visit his high school friends. Korudo did end up working his father’s company but on his own terms, donates a lot to Izuku’s AFO foundation. Izuku probably sees Taketsu the most, she’s a quirk lawyer and works with Izuku professionally in terms of quirk advocacy and advancement.
- Hero Names: Bakugou - Kacchan, Todoroki - stays as Shouto, Aoyoma - Lumiere, Shinsou - Hypnos
- As soon as he graduated, Izuku moved into All Might’s old apartment because he couldn’t stand to sell it. He left it almost identical only converting the back study and pretty much living out of boxes the first few years. He’s very, very slowly taking down All Might’s things and putting up his own but each change involves a lot of struggle and crying, but it feels like healing. In addition, Toshi was able to change his will before dying so Izuku inherited an insane amount of money from All Might’s estate. He couldn’t spend it all in his lifetime if he tried. He mostly keeps it away but donates a lot of it to AFO and other charities.
- Deku is a fan favorite as far submissive ships go. In every fan pairing he’s put in (and there are some wild one out there) he is the delicate, submissive quirkless partner. When asked on it, 1A just comments “have you ever actually seen Deku??” still the trope persists. Popular fan pairings are Bakudeku, Shoudeku, Iideku and Uradeku.
- The Class has varying ways of referring to one another, most of them feel comfortable calling each other by their first names but almost all continue to call Iida by his surname (except Ochako and Izuku when he’s feeling annoyed/sappy). Izuku and Katsuki have a whole language of names within the names they call each other, all you should know is that if you hear Izuku say “Bakugou” or Katsuki “Izu-chan” you better run like hell.
- Midoriya Hisashi was officially killed halfway through Izuku’s Third Year in a villian attack at his office in America. Inko was distraught but Izuku really couldn’t bring himself to mourn a man he never knew (and was already exhausted still grieving for All Might). Inko and Izuku got a sizable payout from it, ensuring Inko will be able to live comfortably for the rest of her life. Izuku never touched the money, relying first on All Might’s money then his own when he had to. ((Most people know I’m pretty ham for DFO so let me say this, on paper “Midoriya Hisashi” was killed it’s up to you if someone else is still around)
- While OFA doesn’t have any permanent staff, it does have heroes who frequently work there. It started this way because Izuku couldn’t get any heroes to permanently attach and kept it up once he realized the versatility it gave him. Shouto and Uravity usually do at least one or two stints a year. Pretty much all of the unattached heroes of 1A have worked with Deku multiple times (even a few attached, Ingenium surprising everyone by leaving his agency for a month to work with his old friend). Lemillion does it when his schedule allows and a few veteran heroes like Present Mic and Cementoss have done work there as well. And while Number One Kacchan hasn’t officially worked at One For All, he and Red Riot partner do enough inter-agency work that they kind of have.
- Over the years OFA acquired the respect of many heroes but there’s still assholes who refuse to take orders from a quirkless man. Now officially Deku has no problems with those who do not wish to work with him, it’s well within their rights. However, he’ll usually slyly make it known that people have turned down offers from him or spoke against him. And suddenly those bigoted heroes find they’re getting less support from those connected to Deku (a number that grows bigger by the year). There are less team-ups, less chance of being voted for hero titles, more whispers about how a hero being quirkist in this age is so old-fashioned and not cool. The heroes are like ??? how the hell did this happen while Deku sits there and smiles, not having lifted a finger. He’s a kind man but a vindictive one for sure.
- Izuku named his foundation after All For One, the villain who terrorized Japan and ultimately killed All Might, purely out of spite. While Izuku never confronted him in this universe, he knows the villain is still out there. The AFO Foundation took a name that was once feared and turned it into something that could bring people hope. He wanted to tell all the wannabe criminals who would recognize the name that Izuku knows and he’s not afraid. Also he still considers it his duty as AM’s successor to stop him so the Foundation is two middle fingers up to AFO as a challenge.
- Rikimaru-shishou (Izuku and later Shinsou’s martial arts teacher in TLWA) has mostly retired from teaching, only taking a few students here and there. Izuku still keeps in contact when possible, meeting up for a friendly spar when he can squeeze it in. Most of the students Daiki takes these days are kids Izuku recommends with puppy dog eyes.
-Mirio and Izuku end up developing a pretty good relationship. It starts when Izuku tries to intern with Nighteye in his first year and it’s pretty ugly. Nighteye refuses to take him but some, not all, of the Izuku/OFA/Mirio situation comes out. Mirio is very disturbed that his mentor was grooming him to be All Might 2 and kind of separates from Sir and takes Izuku’s side. Really excited by Deku’s vision for a better hero society and they have a big/lil brother relationship. Is super okay when Izuku takes the SoP title from him, like Izuku not bothered with rankings but he knows how important it is to his bro.
- So good news first, Mirio and Tamaki are long term partners and adopt a little girl, Koharu, who has a ‘villainous’ quirk and was abandoned by her family. Mirio being on paternity leave is one of the factors that allows Izuku to take the SoP away from him. So uh bad news, Eri was never recovered during TLWA version of the Overhaul arc. Don’t ask me exact details cause I don’t know lol but Izuku wasn’t really involved and Overhaul and few of his men managed to flee Japan with Eri and haven’t been found since. Mirio and Tamaki both took the loss to heart which is why they wanted to try and pay back that mistake. They’re both great dads though.
- Due to being so outrageously busy during their first year as Pros, Bakugou forgot to maintain a regular haircut schedule so it started to grow out. Izuku and some others commented that the longer hair looked good on him. It got to the point where it was getting in the way so he ties it back in a little tail that looks like a little explosion. That, and his permanent facial scruff, make him a very attractive hero but his personality still leaves a lot to be desired.
〈“Some legends are told, some turn to dust or to gold. But you will remember me, remember me for centuries. And just one mistake is all it will take, we’ll go down in history.” Fall Out Boy, “Centuries”〉
⊱ ────── {⋅. 🔥 .⋅} ────── ⊰
“Do you see him, kid?” I asked, holding his ankles in my hands.
Riku was sitting on my shoulders so he could look over the crowd. He crossed his arms, resting them on the top of my head. “Nope. There’s Mt. Lady, but my brother isn’t anywhere around. Where is that idiot?”
I hummed, approaching the blonde-haired hero. “Let’s gather some clues.”
“Like Scooby-Doo!” I could hear the smile in his voice and chuckled.
She noticed us approaching and lifted her chin, hand on her hip. “Did you finally come to apologize?”
“Not even on your life,” I deadpanned. “Oi, Riku.”
“Right! Have you see a teenage boy that’s really desperate for your attention?”
If I wasn’t holding his ankles to keep him from falling, I would have facepalmed.
She sweatdropped. “There’s a lot of those, you’re gonna have to be more specific.”
“Umm, well, he’s eighteen-years-old, never had a girlfriend that isn’t an anime character, got rejected from two different colleges, he’s a huge pervert with a large stack of dirty magazines under his bed and his favorite color on a girl is pink! Does that help?”
My eye twitched. Really starting to remember why I don’t fuck with little kids… I cleared my throat. “Maybe start with his name…”
“Yuki Reigen.”
“Okay. Now, what does he look like?”
He hummed thoughtfully. “He’s kinda short for his age and he dyes his hair blonde, but he’s really bad at it so it’s super streaky. He wears blue contacts but his eyes are actually brown like mine! His skin is kinda oily, especially his nose, even though he uses this weird smelling cream. He thinks it works but it doesn’t at all!”
Mt. Lady tilted her head, her finger on her chin. Her face suddenly lit up with recognition. “Oh yeah! He was so desperate for my number, he said he’d do anything for it, it was honestly pathetic. I was just about to tell him he could have it after being my slave for two years, but then he suddenly panicked and ran off.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I asked.
“Yeah, you’re a creepy old hag!” Riku added. “My brother will never be a slave to someone as ugly as you!”
“What did you just call me, you brat?!”
“Mt. Lady!” Woodsman came speed-walking up, putting his wooden arm between us before she could advance. “You’re supposed to be patrolling!”
Riku started to shake, his fingers curling around my short hair as he sniffled. “S-She’s so s-scary! She threatened to h-hit me!” His crying alerted the other people around us, who stopped to see what was going on. Hearing his words made a few of them glare at her, clutching their children closer.
The color drained from her face and she hastily tried to explain the situation. “W-What? No, I -”
Woodsman put his hands on his hips, glaring at her. “You made this child cry, now say you’re sorry!”
“But I didn’t -”
Riku started to cry louder.
“O-Okay! I’m sorry, just stop crying!”
His cries died down to soft sniffles. I swear if he gets snot in my fucking hair I’mma rage.
Woodsman turned to us with a sigh. “I’m really sorry about her, she has no filter. You really should be getting back, the finals will be starting soon.”
“I can’t.” I motioned toward the kid shoving his face onto my head. “He can’t find his brother and I’m trying to help find him.”
“Oh, I see. Here, let me take over.” He held his hands out and I bent down so he could gently grab Riku under the arms, lifting him up and over my head before bringing him into his arms. “Don’t worry, I promise I’ll find his brother.”
I nodded, ruffling Riku’s hair. “Don’t leave that idiot brother of yours again, okay? And no more jumping from the stands.”
He nodded, wiping at his wet eyes with the back of his hand. “Thank you, big sis.”
Woodsman nodded his head at me before walking away, Riku leaning over his shoulder. His sad expression morphed to a smug grin, all traces of his tears gone.
I exchanged a look with Mt. Lady and I knew we were thinking the same thing – children are fucking demons.
⊱ ────── {⋅. 🔥 .⋅} ────── ⊰
“Thank you, Cementoss! Hey, sports fans, are you ready?! After all the action you’ve already witnessed, it’s time for the real battle to begin! Can you feel the excitement?! Our competitors are on their own now! Sometimes heroes have only themselves to rely on! Heart, skill, strength, wisdom, courage – they’ll have to use all of these things to rise to the top!”
A bead of sweat rolled down my cheek as I took a deep breath. Why the fuck do I have to go first? Man, there’s gonna be so many fuckers watching me. Just the thought makes me want to die. Maybe I’ll just forfeit…
Strong hands landed on my shoulders. “You’re pretty tense, kid. Nervous?”
I turned around to face Snipe and Toshi. “I’m always tense, it’s a way of life.”
“Don’t worry, young Jen, you’ll do great.” Toshi gave me a thumbs up and a grin. “You fought against young Reggian a bit in the cavalry battle so you know a bit about his quirk already.”
“Somethin’ to do with air, I think?” I scratched my cheek.
“Just don’t kill ’em and you’ll be just fine,” Snipe put his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into a half hug. “We’ll be rootin’ for ya, kid.”
“Thanks, guys.” I grinned.
“Well, well, audience, let’s cut to the good stuff and not delay these finals any longer! Welcome our first fighters – with a potty mouth and an attitude to match, it’s Jen Winchester from the hero course!”
I stepped through the doorway, hands shoved into my pockets. My eyes squinted as the sudden bright light invading my vision. The crowd was screaming, but I did my best not to pay them any mind as I approached the arena.
“Versus! His sanity is seriously up for debate, it’s Regina Reggian from general studies!”
“Hey, I’m lucid sometimes, twatwaffle!”
“What did he just call me?!”
“A twatwaffle.”
“Don’t ever say that again, Eraser…”
I rolled my eyes before glancing across to the other doorway where Regina was exiting from, looking smug. Man, this guy really has a face I just wanna punch. With a fucking metal chair.
“The rules are simple – immobilize your opponent or force them out of the ring! You can also win by getting the other person to cry uncle! Bring on the injuries because we’ve got our very own Recovery Girl waiting on standby! So put your morals aside and don’t be afraid to play dirty, but of course, no life-threatening crap, folks, it’s not allowed! Real heroes use their powers to throw villains in jail, not kill them!”
“I’ll stop anyone that tries to get too rough,” Cementoss said calmly. He was sitting beside the ring, directly centered with it in a chair he had made with his quirk.
I scratched my cheek. Call me old-fashioned but should they really be encouraging teenagers to beat the ever-living shit out of each other? Sounds fucking suspect.
Regina grinned at me. “I’m gonna force you to give up, nerd!”
“Not even in your dreams, kid.” I grinned back. “Be careful, you don’t wanna get burnt.”
“Ready?!”
“You’re a magician’s red burnin’ chicken looking ass.”
“What the fuck does that even mean? Your taste sound like ass. I’m gonna fucking annihilate you like Kunimitsu Tezuka did to the dinosaurs.”
“Nani the fuck?”
“BEGIN!”
We both took our stances. He held his hands out like he were gripping a sword and the air around him started to solidify, forcing the hilt of a sword. The blade started to form… is that a fucking cactus? “Hey! This is my cactus and his name is Pablo!”
I sweatdropped. What is with this guy? “Oi -” I suddenly gagged as something solidified in my mouth. It tasted like if you took Kirishima’s dirty gym socks, wiped your ass with it, and then pureed it with rotten onions. My stomach turned as I spit it out, coughing violently as I tried to ignore the taste on my tongue. Is that… a mother fucking sock?!
“Winchester just spit up a sock! What is this sorcery we’re seeing, folks?!”
“Take this!” Taking advantage of the distracted he had created, he moved in close, swinging the sword above his head. My hand shot up, connecting with the translucent spikes of the cactus. They broke the skin, small drops of blood flowing from the holes.
“Reggian has successfully launched the first attack! How will Winchester respond?!”
“Am I a fucking joke to you?”
“No, you’re a nerd.”
“Hmph, can’t argue with that one, but you’re gonna have to die now, thanks!” I squeezed my hand, increasing the temperature of my skin until the cactus exploded. My hand was throbbing.
“PABLO, NO!!!”
I punched him in the stomach, sending him stumbling backward, clutching his stomach and coughing.
“You’ll pay… for killing Pablo… you thot!” He held his hand up and the air started to solidify. “Improvised special move, Pablo Jr!!” He threw the small, potted cactus at me and I grunted, smacking it away. As soon as my hand touched it, it exploded.
“It’s hard to see but if you look closely you can see a bunch of translucent spikes now stuck in Winchester’s body from that last attack!”
“Son of a bitch,” I grunted. He lifted his hands again and I dashed forward. I won’t even give him the chance to – smack. I fell face-first on the ground, the cold cement seeping through my clothes.
Silence fell over the stadium before a roar of laughter erupted.
“Oh my god!”
“Did you see her face?!”
“I’m so glad I came, this is hilarious!”
“What a classic move!!”
“I’m wheezing, someone help!”
“Ahahahaha! Class 1-A isn’t looking so cool now, is it?!”
“Shut up, Monoma!”
“No one can get past my second improvised special move – Banana Peel Field!!” Regina laughed loudly.
“I can’t believe it! In all my years, this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone slip on a banana peel during the sports festival! This is great!!”
I slowly lifted my head, my teeth clenched in annoyance. I fucking slipped on a mother fucking banana peel made of goddamn air. This fucking brat is toying with me and it’s pissing me off. I pulled myself to my feet, my blood boiling as flames engulfed my hands. I thrust them out to the side and lines of fire shot out in all directions, swirling around the arena.
I clenched my fists, grinning when he took a step back. “I’m not gonna give you the chance to give up, but don’t worry bro, I will give you the chance to die!” I slammed both fists against the ground, the concrete splitting as fire snaked through it directly toward him.
“Ah, shit -”
The flames shot up from the ground, hitting him in the gut and lifting him off his feet. I teleported behind him, pulling my leg back before slamming my shin against his back and into the cement. He coughed, doing a somersault to avoid my boot. He breathed heavily, lifting his hands again, but I didn’t give him the chance, teleporting behind him again. Pain shot through my skull and I knew I needed to end it soon.
The flames raged on my arm as I cocked my arm, bringing my fist against his face. He flew backward and I stomped my foot, sending a wave of flame to propel him farther. It smacked into him like a spout of water, forcing his body out of bounds and pinning it against the wall. His eyes rolled back in his head as he lost consciousness, the flames dying out. The air spikes in my body disappeared.
“Reggian is out of bounds!” Midnight raised her hand, the metal cuff clanking from the movement. “Winchester advances to the next round!”
“Woah, that chick is kinda scary, don’t you think?”
“She told him to die!”
“That’s not a very heroic thing to say…”
“Reggian did really well!”
“He’s hilarious! Imagine having him as a sidekick.”
“Right? There’d never be a dull moment!”
“His power is pretty unique, too. If you think about it, the uses for his quirk are pretty limitless.”
“Right? Fire’s a pretty basic quirk, no creativity there.”
My eyes narrowed at my hand, watching the blood drip to the cement.
“Go see Recovery Girl.” Midnight ordered.
“Yeah, whateva.”
“And with that explosive display, we have the first victor of the finals! Class 1-A’s Jen Winchester! Ah yeah~ that was a pretty amusing first fight, kids! Both of you fought bravely, let’s show them some love!!”
I won the fucking match, but I feel like a fucking loser. I shoved my hands into my pockets as I approached the dark hallway. I wanna go home.
“Hey, big sis!”
I glanced up at Riku’s voice. He was leaning over the railing again, waving his hand like crazy. A taller boy stood behind him, gripping the back of his shirt to keep him in place. That must be his older brother. Good, I’m glad the Woodsman was able to find him.
“You were so cool out there! Your power is uber strong!” he grinned brightly, closing his eyes. “I wanna be just like you when I grow up!”
My heart skipped a beat as warmth flooded me, my lips twitching up as I released a breath I hadn’t realized I had been holding. Thanks, kid… I needed that.
“Gimme some sugar~” Gran pressed her lips to my cheek and patted my bandaged hand. “There, all better, deary.”
“Thanks, Gran.”
“Why the glum face? You won, after all.”
I sighed, falling back onto the bed and staring up at the ceiling. “I don’t know. I mean, I know I won the fight, but he won over the crowd. They totally hated me.”
She hummed. “There will always be times when people prefer one quirk over another. Don’t let it get you down, deary. You’ll always be number one in my heart.”
I smiled, turning onto my side and propping my cheek up against my palm. “Can I ask you somethin’?”
“Of course you may.”
“What does it mean… to be a hero?”
She sent me a surprised look before humming, her hand on her chin. “Well, everyone views it quite differently. At its very core, a hero is someone that wants to help others, but everyone has their own reasons, their own desires, to become a hero.”
“But I don’t,” I frowned, picking at the white sheet beneath me. “I don’t have that drive. I’ve thought about it a bunch of times, but I can’t think of a reason to fight. Besides… if people find out who my mother is, won’t that make them hate me, anyway? Bakugo told me not to tell anyone. He was dead serious about it. She was an A-Class villain turned pro hero. No one trusted her…”
Gran set her small hand over mine, her voice warm. “That may be true, but you are not your mother, deary. You’re your own person and if they view you differently, well, that’s their loss. No matter what happens in the future, you will always have a place here at U.A.”
My fingers wrapped around her hand. “Do you think… I’ll find a reason to be a hero?”
“I do, but you must remember that you grew up in a world where heroes are nothing more than fiction. It makes sense that you have no desire to be a hero because you grew up believing that such a dream simply wasn’t possible. I believe that, with time, you’ll find your reason to keep fighting. You just have to have some patience. These things can’t be rushed.”
I chuckled. “Patience has never been my strong suit. When I was a kid, the loading screen for my new game was taking too long so I kicked the TV.”
She laughed, patting my hand. “Yes, well, you are still young, deary.”
I glanced at Regina, who was unconscious on the bed across the room. “He gonna be okay?”
“He’ll be just fine. I’ve healed his wounds, now he just needs to recover his stamina. No need to worry.”
“Che, as if I’d worry about that idiot.” I rolled over onto my back, folding my hands behind my head. “Can I rest here for a bit?”
“Of course, deary.”
“Thanks, Gran.”
She pressed a kiss to my cheek before returning to her work, leaving me to mull over her words.
Miwaku Fukukado-Yamada,
A living, loving accident.
Her parents? Pro Heroes Present Mic and Ms. Joke, when they were both young and stupid.
Her birth was kept hidden from her dad until she was 5, when her quirk showed up and both parents agreed to live close to each other, since Hizashi's dating Aizawa.
Lives with her dads, so it'll be easier to control her quirk.
Quirk: Charming Voice!
She's an enhanced version of Present Mic. She, just like her father, can scream absurdly loudly, whisper incredibly silently, mimic other people's voices and throw her voice. The main difference is that, whenever she sings, she can make others do what she wants, like a siren!
The singing works better if she has the instrumental harmony, though. If she doesn't have it, she'll just control anyone who listens, including allies.
Story:
She's a big, big mess.
And she's loud, to say the least.
She wants to be like her Mom and her Dad. Loud, funny, caring and powerful. It works, most of the time. It's who she likes to be, but sometimes... she realized that she's more of a copycat than Monoma. Why does she want to be like someone else? Why doesn't she want to be whatever she should be-, whoever she should be?
Is she just a Present Mic #2? Is that really who she is? Is that really who she wants to be? She's not Present Mic-- she'll never be, and she knows it. But... why does she want to be him so bad?
She'll have some existential crises every now and then.
Mostly, she'd force herself to be brave and be like her parents, always with a big, bright smile on her face, and be there for whoever needs her, like her two (former) best friends, Hitoshi Shinso and Neito Monoma.
She was happy, just... confused. She wasn't sure if that's who she was.
One day, after a talk with her friends, she decided that she wasn't just a female Present Mic. She decided that she was going to be better.
She took on parts of everyone she held dear, and blended all of those parts together to form... something.
She's a 5'5'' blonde girl with bright green eyes, who wears her short hair up like her Pa, with two bangs falling in the sides of her face like her "Uncle", wears a lot of black like her Dad, along with some shiny colours here and there like her Mom. She'll also use her body to her advantage, like her "Aunt."
That was, she decided, her "default form". She'd wear that big ass mask in front of other people - that is, the media, her fans, other celebrities, etc etc -, and would slowly start to be herself, experimenting and doing crazy stuff to find out who she's meant to be. And of course, her family's 100% supportive of her.
So don't worry if in one day she's dressing all "goth" and in the other she's dressing all "cutie". She's just doing Miwaku stuff.
She likes being Miwaku-y.
Jobs:
She's a celebrity at 16!
Started her singing career small, at 8 years old, in her Pa's radio station. Eventually she started embracing her siren side more and more, and combined with her popularity as the daughter of two Pros, a lot of people knew her name.
She started working at a studio (with her parents' supervision and consent) where she'd sing covers of reeeeeeally old songs, from the quirkless days, and she'd use both her lovely voice, convenient quirk and pretty face to make people love it.
She dragged Shinso and Monoma to it too, and soon they were known as an inseparable trio. The three of them are really famous, each with their own share of fans, with their own fanbase (can you believe it!?), and need to hide when going out in public. Monoma is the hardest to hide, though.
They use their fame to spread their stories, one with a "(mysterious) villain's quirk", other with a "useless quirk", and other with a "dangerous quirk". They want to be symbols, to make people realize those labels are stupid. They can't erase all quirk discrimination from the world, sure, but they're trying.
They're also in a polygamous relationship with each other <3. Their fanbase is actually really accepting of it, nerfing the assholes who said that was wrong. They love their fans.
Relationships:
- Emi Fukukado: Her mother. She calls her (O)"Kaa-san" or "Mom".
She loves her mom! She knows how hard she worked to raise her alone for 5 years. Although she's not so close to Kaa-san than she is to Tou-san, she loves Emi just as dearly and would fight to death for her Mom.
When she was younger, Emi used to sing her a song, a really old song to make her sleep. It's called Everything Stays. She knows that song by heart.
- Hizashi Yamada: Her (biological) father. She calls him (O)"Tou-san" or "Pa".
She loves him so much! He's just like Kaa-san said he was! He's fun and caring and loving and he's just so nice! He knows what is like to slip and scream a little bit too loud every now and then too. He's also really accepting of who she (thinks she) is, her sexuality, her general self, and she's very thankful for that.
- Shouta Aizawa: She can't decide if he's her second Mom or her second Dad. She calls him "Dad", but will tease him with "Mom".
He's her stone. He's the one that she relies on when she feels like she's gone a little too far. She likes how he shows how much he loves her constantly, just subtly. Almost every day she'll wake up with a few sets of clothes laying in her closet, waiting to see which one she'll choose. She never picks any of the sets he separates for her, but a part of each.
He's not the best with fashion, but he tries his hardest.
- Nemuri Kayama: Her Auntie <3
Oh really, she's the cliché Aunt that'll always ask, "Oi, when you gonna show me your boyfriend?", and Miwaku will answer laughing in polygamist.
She's really fun to hang out with, and Miwaku got some of her flirting techniques with Nemuri.
- Yagi Toshinori: Her caring Uncle <3
He's what she called a "plot convenience". He was her mom's neighbour, and one day when she really needed a babysitter for her 4-year-old kid and couldn't find one, she basically begged on her feet for him to do it for her.
They absolutely loved each other. Whenever he could, he'd offer to stay with her. Whenever he wasn't present, she'd ask her Mom if she could call him over. During this time, he was her biggest father figure, until her actual dads came and she ended up putting him in the "Uncle" segment.
He's already offered One for All to her, but she refused. She was already dying thinking she was supposed to be Present Mic or Ms. Joke or Eraserhead, she didn't need nor want another label to worry about.
- Neito Monoma: Former best friend, current boyfriend <3
They met by accident. But boy, what great an accident that was.
She met Neito first, when they were 6. They were classmates, and other kids didn't want to play with him because they thought he'd steal their quirks. She called bullshit on them and adopted him as her best friend.
They loved each other (as friends), they were inseparable. Eventually he was offered to train with her under Yagi's hero training, and they found out something amazing.
Neito's quirk analyzes a person's DNA factor via touch, and through that, it copies their quirk factor from the DNA. Therefore, by touching any DNA source from a person, Neito could copy it. In smaller words, he could copy a person's quirk by touching a strand of their hair (and other body fluids too, but that's too gross), and taking that hair to the battlefield grants him an enormous amount of quirks to choose from.
He's really smart, because if he wasn't, he probably would've died or become an accidental Noumu.
He trains speed and his quirk with Yagi, and always finds a way to get people's hair strands without them noticing, making them think he just straight up has dozens of quirks.
Also, he, Shinso and Miwaku are dating. He loves his two idiots. (Not that he isn't one, though...)
- Hitoshi Shinso: Former best friend, current boyfriend <3
Polygamy is a fucking dream.
They met when she and her Dad were walking to get an ice cream. A group of kids, clearly older than him, decided that they didn't wanna risk their leader's little brother's safety with his "villainous quirk", and were very close to cutting his tongue off.
Thankfully her Dad came and saved him. After the "kids" were sent to the police, she insisted that he should get an ice cream too. They didn't get ice cream. But she and 'Toshi did become friends. Inseparable, they'd learn overtime.
She wasn't even slightly afraid of his quirk. Hers was similar to his, anyway. They bonded over the fact that people were afraid of their voices. 'Toshi's parents are really nice, and you can't imagine how happy they were when they found out he made his very first friends.
They NEVER imagined what opportunities that one girl would bring. Because of her, Hitoshi was a celebrity! He had countless people who loved him! He trained with pro heroes!
He never showed anyone what his quirk is, so he's still set on becoming an underground hero. And thanks to her and her parents, he's sure he'll-- no, that they'll make it.
Curiosities:
Her favorite colors change everyday with her mood, but she definitely has a thing for pinks, yellows and blues.
Thanks to her Pa (and her work), she's already visited a good plenty of countries.
Her favorites were United States, Brazil and Portugal.
She'll usually sing in English or in Brazilian Portuguese thanks to that.
She has ear piercings! She also forced Shinso and Neito to get some too. Shinso was the hardest to convince, tho.
She loves sweets, especially ice cream.
Her favorite songs are the ones that allow her to scream reeeeeeally loud and still keep harmony.
She has a pet cat of her own! Cloud was chosen by her in the pet shop. She's a white cat with big ass blue eyes.
Her room is HUGE. Why wouldn't it be, after all? Basically her whole family are heroes and she even got a paying job at 8 years old. She's fucking rich.
She has a hell lot of plushies. Most were gifts from Toshi and Neito. <3
She wears a bright pink bow on her head when she's in a good mood.
She may or may not be aware of the existence of alternate universes.
Also, @boom-box-live and @cake4ninja owo
Time Travel CH 19
HOLY JEEZ, THIS TOOK A WHILE. LEGIT, I sat down for like four hours to write this. I wanted to make sure things were kinda accurate, plus dealing with FEELS. But y’all have five pages worth, at least LOL.
Part 18
Masterlist
——+++——
Toshizō unlocked the door to his shared apartment. The sudden thought of how they decided to live together came to him. He chuckled at the memory and kicked off his shoes, “I’m home.” He could smell something cooking. She’d gotten home first, so dinner was left up to her. They took turns, depending on who made it home first. Sometimes they’d order out.
 "Toshi! Welcome home.“ She peered over at him, turning off the burner, and noticed he was lost in thought already. There was something else on his mind, after all, he’d visited Souji early in the morning. Besides work, there was a lot on his mind with Souji. Even after all this time, though talking to Sano and her, he still blamed himself for the death of his younger brother.
“Thanks,” Toshizō grunted and absentmindedly sat on the couch. A black cat jumped next to him, rubbing against his hand, asking for attention. He scratched the cat behind the ears. It was one of the precious things Souji had left them. Souji had picked up this cat while he was living at the dorms and dumped him on Toshizō’s doorstep after nursing back him to health. The little shit had named him Toshizō, and the cat didn’t appreciate having his name changed.*
Satomi picked up Toshizō and set him down, taking Toshi’s hand in hers. “I’m here when you’re ready to tell me what’s on your mind. I doubt it’s the next surgery or paperwork.”
He gave her a very thin smile and gave her hand a squeeze. “Aa, I know. It’s just…there’s something that came up. I have to discuss some things with Kondō-san and Sannan-san before I can tell you.”
Satomi got closer to him, laying her head on his chest. Toshizō closed his eyes, running his fingers through her black hair. Her presence alone was enough to soothe him. “It’s that big of a secret you can’t tell me then?”
“Aa. At least not yet. Believe me, it’s…complicated. You will find out.”
Chizuru stroked his hair. Souji had exhausted himself and settled his head in her lap. Eventually, she’d dozed off as well.
Souji woke up first and shifted a little to look up at Chizuru’s face. Her presence was rather comforting and soothing. She smelled vaguely of cherry blossoms. He reached up to cup her cheek, expecting her to awaken, but she stayed sleeping. Just what did his counterpart see in this Chizuru? Sure, she was cute, good on the eyes, but why had he loved her? All the “memories” he’d been seeing, they had such warm feelings attached to them whenever Chizuru was in them.
“Souji…” She murmured, her eyes fluttering slightly. She leaned down to kiss his forehead.
Souji chuckled. “Are you awake, Chizuru-chan?” He waved a hand in front of her.
Her eyes snapped open. She thought she’d been dreaming. The only way to see her Souji was in her dreams. "Ah, Okita-san! I’m sorry! I was still asleep!”
He stood up after spotting his sword leaning against the wall, next to the tv. “Ne, Chizuru-chan,”
She rubbed her eyes and looked over at him. “Yes, Okita-san?”
Souji picked up his sword, unsheathing it, feeling a sense of familiarity and calmness. It was the only thing that had come with him, the only thing that was familiar.“If you tell anyone about last night, I’ll kill you.” He strode over to the couch, pointing the sword at her neck.
Chizuru looked up into his eyes. He didn’t have that amused sparkle in his eyes that she expected him to have. His mouth was curved into a sadistic smile. She’d never seen this expression on her Souji’s face. It was a painful reminder that her Souji wouldn’t return to her. The man in front of him just bore his face. “O-Okita-san…”
The look of fear on her face was reminiscent of the Chizuru he’d first met. She had been terrified at his “jokes.” “Don’t forget that I’m me. I’m not the same soft Okita Souji you knew. Don’t confuse us.”
She didn’t, couldn’t move.
He burst out laughing, and sheathed his sword in one fluid and quick movement. “I was joking, Chizuru-chan. Not entirely.” He sat down near the journals.
“Okita-san…you’re unbelievable! That’s not something to joke about!” Chizuru grabbed a pillow and smacked the back of his head with it.
Souji knew he deserved that. “…Chizuru…”
She stopped as she was about to throw another pillow at him.
“…thank you. For being there last night.” He whispered.
“…it’s nothing…” She mumbled, getting up from the couch to go to her room to take a shower and start breakfast.
Souji stared at the old, worn journals in the box. Some of them looked vaguely familiar, since every now and again, he’d take time out of his day to ransack Hijikata-san’s room and read his “diaries.” He finally reached into the box to pull out the first one. There was a letter inside.
Dear Hijikata family,
I have managed to find these journals from the time that Hijikata Toshizō-san arrived in Kyoto with the rest of the Shinsengumi members, up until almost the end of the war. I implore you to keep Hijikata Toshizō-san and the Shinsengumi’s history alive by passing down these journals for generations to come, so people can learn about who the Shinsengumi really were.
From Hijikata Toshizō-san’s Page, Yukimura.
Chizuru-chan? He recognized her handwriting. What business did she have recovering Hijikata-san’s journals? He didn’t know how the rest of it played out. He had only read the part about Kondō-san. Maybe Hijikata-san would give him a more detailed explanation of what actually happened to the Shinsengumi.
He skimmed the first few journals that he talked about when they were the Roshigumi. He remembered all of it too well. After the incident in Ikeda, he started to read more carefully. The dates were smudged a bit, but he could make out the month and year.
June 1865
 Souji…that bastard…I heard him and Yukimura talking. He doesn’t plan on telling us about his tuberculosis. I’ve already told him I can’t send him back to Ezo. I can only keep an eye on him and make him rest as much as I can. That guy’s going to hate me for it…
 By this point, some idiot named Itou infiltrated the Shinsengumi, and according to Hijikata-san, he was playing Kondō-san. Sannan-san had drank Ochimizu and became the Colonel of the Furies, though the words “Rasetsu,” “Oni,” and “Ochimizu” were smudged out. Every time Hijikata-san mentioned it, the words were smudged out, so to anyone else reading it, they wouldn’t know what he was talking about.
Souji sighed, so Chizuru-chan and Hijikata-san found out about his illness then? Whether his life was short or long, he was going to do all he could with his sword for the Shinsengumi and Kondō-san. Dying in a bed didn’t suit him, nor would he have let it happen. This Mother Hen would say otherwise to his choices.
April 1867
 Heisuke and Saitō left us to join the Guard. The path Kondō-san and I carving didn’t seem to agree with them, but we will continue forward, with or without them. They have their own roads to carve and follow.
 It was hard for him to picture the ever-loyal-to-Hijikata-san-Hajime-kun leave the Shinsengumi. He could understand Heisuke, but Hajime-kun was a bit of a shock. He continued reading.
November 1867
 Heisuke has come back to us after we’ve managed to pull off our stunt, but at a cost. He’s now joined Sannan-san. Many of the guys have mixed feelings, but in the end, I think we’re all relieved he’s back. For now, Saitō needs to lay low before he can come back to us. He’s played an important in all of this, I couldn’t be more grateful he kept Kondō-san from being assassinated by the Guard.
 So, Heisuke had become a fury. He couldn’t picture the sweet Eighth Division Captain killing others for joy and drinking their blood. The white hair. The red eyes. He couldn’t picture it on him, but somehow he’d become one.
December 1867
 There was an attempt to assassinate Kondō-san. Souji gave me his two cents on the matter, he’s still a kid…Of course, it doesn’t mean he’s completely wrong. It’s my fault. I should’ve convinced Kondō-san to take more men with him.
That same night, Souji ****** and killed the men that had attempted to assassinate him. Yukimura went after him, and we were able to find them both thanks to her.
Now, Souji has joined both Sannan-san and Heisuke. Kondō-san is disappointed in himself and in Souji for what he’s become. I should’ve been watching him more carefully.
 How interesting…He did end up drinking Ochimizu. It didn’t matter what he had to do to get rid of Kondō-san’s enemies, even become a beast. He owed him his life and much more. The war raged on and even Hijikata-san himself and Hajime-kun succumbed to the Ochimizu. The Choshu Ronin, an Oni, he guessed, was the cause of this. Hijikata-san had sent Chizuru with him and Kondō-san to Osaka to recover from wounds. The cause of his own wounds was also smudged out.
The war raged on and Hijikata-san struggled with decisions. Their comrades left, Shinpachi-san and Sano-san left. Hajime-kun stayed with the Aizu Domain.
May 1868
 Kondō-san…has surrendered to the new government. He ordered me to continue moving forward with the Shinsengumi name on my shoulders…Souji somehow managed to find me and give me a good punch. There wasn’t much strength to it, since his tuberculosis was still present, even though *******. He and Yukimura traveled far to track me down. We both felt it, Kondō-san’s death. I had no excuse for him. I am just as angry as he is that Kondō-san was executed like a common criminal. That man was the most honorable and noble Warrior to have ever existed. He died smiling.That person that gave so much even when we didn’t have anything, was gone, executed brutally. He still died a real Warrior, a true Samurai, more than these sons of bitches that turned tail and sided with the Satchō.
He and Yukimura…seemed to have gotten involved, but both know that it doesn’t seem like Souji will last much longer. We all knew it. He collapsed and was taken to the infirmary.
Yukimura stayed with him until his last moment. I stood outside, waiting. She finally came out, unable to say a word, crying her eyes out. I never thought I’d hear the little shit say he loved a woman in such a sincere voice. I ordered her to find a place of her own, away from the war, it’s no place for a woman. I ain’t a coward that takes down a woman with him.
 Souji blinked, rereading the last page again. It wasn’t his death that had shocked him, though he was severely disappointed he had died in bed,unable to avenge Kondo-san, it was the fact that he and Chizuru…were together. In his life, he’d come to love Chizuru-chan. The same feelings that were in the memories he saw…He would’ve had them too if he had continued living the life in Ezo. He and Chizuru…
He took a few moments to absorb Hijikata-san’s thoughts and feelings. There was so much to process. The way his comrades, friends, had gone to carve their own paths. Kondo-san’s death…Hijikata-san had a lot on his shoulders…he had been burdened with so many things. The world changed too rapidly for them.
June 1969
I fought alongside Heisuke and Sannan-san to get rid of the remaining *******, but not long after that, they turned to ash, they ************. You two fought well, take care of the others for me, Gen-san, Yamazaki, Kondō-san, Saitō, Souji. I’ll join you someday soon.
I made sure to destroy anything related to ******. That must never repeat itself. Before Sannan-san was gone, he gave me the location of his research. I ran into that ****, Amagiri. He said that that Kazama had destroyed Kodo-san’s research and ******. Apparently, Heisuke and Sannan-san had helped him destroy that army he’d created.
Last I heard of Yukimura, she’s been trying to track me down, but she’s made a good life for herself in the temple I left her at. The elderly lady I sent a letter to told me there’s a nice guy that’s been looking after her. Maybe she’ll finally live well, have some kids, a good husband, after all of this. She deserves it.
Now, it seems like I’ve come to the end. The Tokugawa is collapsing. What do I have left? I ain’t going to battle to win, I’m going to go down like a true Warrior. Someone’s gotta go down with the Tokugawa, and it’d be disgraceful if no one went down with them. But, I’m gonna give them hell and give them the best fight they’ve ever seen. I’m carrying the Shinsengumi name with me, so I will die honorably and proudly by the paths we’ve made for ourselves.
 That was the last entry.
Souji set the journal down.
Hijikata-san endured so much. Death, political power, honor. He wouldn’t have admitted it back then, but Hijikata-san had died a real Warrior.
Souji stared blankly at the floor, fighting back his emotions. They’d lost everything they’d worked for. Everything they’d all endured together.
He was alone.
He certainly felt alone. Everyone he knew was gone, it had not quite sunken in, being surrounded by the look-alikes. He’d felt…like he almost belonged. But this was not his time, these were not the people he had fought battles with , shared drinks with, they merely looked like them and almost spoke like them, but they were completely different. He had not realized how different they were. They came from two different worlds, times.
“Okita-san? I brought you your medicine and some tea.” Chizuru placed the tray on the table, about to pick up a cup to hand it to him.
Souji pulled her into his arms without warning. She protested slightly, but remained quiet when she heard him murmur, “Please, just for a little while.” He held her tightly, burying his face into her shoulder, breathing in her sweet cherry blossom scent.
23 - Aizawa
Kaori Shinsou has always been fascinated by people’s minds. She is one of the best students in her Criminal Psychology course at U.A. and - being the lucky girl she is - her professor is not only one handsome dude, but is also working on the case of the serial killer Stain - a case that has been going on for years. As she is about to become Professor Aizawa’s TA during the next term, a lot of other interesting cases start popping up all over the country…
All these small things they gather round me
(Ben Howard - Small Things)
Shouta Aizawa had no idea why he was staying in the hospital waiting for her to wake up. He could have gone home and caught up on sleep. He could have gone and finished his report for Tsukauchi. Hell, he could have done anything, but he decided to stay in the hospital watching Kaori Shinsou, as she was lying still in a hospital bed, flinching and moving slightly at times.
She wasn't knocked out cold, it was more that she had completely passed out from exhaustion and shock and in general a combination of things. The nurses had said her shoulder was badly bruised, but apart from that she was fine - just exhausted. They had put her on a drip and wheeled her into a small room where she could get the sleep she had been missing out on.
He had been sitting here while having a talk with Tsukauchi, giving him a short rundown of his version on how the evening went. They definitely had to do something about the students being involved in this whole thing. They didn't have any sort of license yet, so this whole affair could easily have really bad consequences for them. And no one wanted that. From what Aizawa heard they were currently working something out with Kenji Tsuragamae, the Hosu chief of police.
Aizawa looked back at Shinsou, lying there, her face pale, dark, dark circles under her eyes, stumbling towards him. He had just about caught her before she hit the ground. Her insomnia seemed to be really bad. The only times she seemed to get some form of sleep lately was when she was getting knocked out by some serious criminals. Or when she was sleeping in Ishiyama's class.
Maybe he should let her get more detention, just so he could tell her to get some sleep. Then again that plan might backfire, since he wasn't always in charge of the detention class. They rotated the professors on that one. Someone else might make her do actual work and Aizawa wanted to avoid that. Shinsou was going to work herself to death some day if no one stopped her.
At least for now she was asleep. She had woken up shortly after she collapsed, but had quickly gone back to sleep, so thankfully no one was too worried about her. She looked quite peaceful the way she was right now, breathing calmly and steadily, her braid all messy and her face regaining some colour.
Just as Aizawa's mind drifted off into the dangerous territory of thinking just how beautiful Kaori Shinsou was, her eyelids fluttered open. She looked at the ceiling with a frown, her eyes showing obvious confusion, before she groaned quietly and slowly sat up. She yawned and then looked around the room until her dark eyes rested on Aizawa. She smiled, but there was a hint of nervousness in her smile.
"Morning, Shinsou." he said.
"Hi, prof." she answered and sat up fully, stretching her arms and looking down on herself. She was still in her uniform, since no one had really bothered to get her changed into something more comfortable.
"What happened? Why am I in the hospital again?" she wanted to know, after she had looked around the room a little longer.
"Nothing bad. You just collapsed. Passed out due to exhaustion. You got a good few hours of sleep." Aizawa explained. Her eyes looked sleepy again, as she was massaging her shoulders, quickly stopping when she got to her left shoulder, twisting her face in pain and hissing under her breath.
"Your shoulder got bruised up pretty bad. Nothing's broken, though. It should be fine again in a couple of days. You better take a break from work for a while, though. You really have to take a break." he said.
"Right. I suppose, now that Stain's caught, there is time for a break. He... he is caught, right? I think I remember him collapsing?" Shinsou replied. Aizawa nodded quickly. Thankfully, the whole Stain case more or less sorted itself out.
"We got him. He's currently being treated at the hospital. He collapsed because one of his ribs broke and was piercing his lung, but he is out of immediate danger at the moment. They might be able to get him to Tartarus in about a week or two."
"Thank God. Those kids would've been in some real trouble if he had died, wouldn't they?" Shinsou asked.
"They're still in a whole lot of trouble. Tsukauchi is negotiating with Tsuragamae at the moment."
"Ah, shit, Tsuragamae can be really scary if he wants to be. They'll be alright, though, won't they? I mean, if they hadn't acted we'd have a whole lot more people dead and Stain would have escaped again."
"Yeah, I think that's the reason Tsukauchi is trying to use to convince the chief. We'll see how it turns out. How are you feeling?" Aizawa asked. He didn't really want to think about those kids anymore. It had almost given him a headache earlier and he was glad the pressure on his temples had subsided. He wasn't going to risk it coming back by starting to worry about those damn kids again.
"I'm still pretty tired, but I feel way better than earlier. I think I was kind of under shock, everything just seemed really far away and there was so much noise and shouting, I just glitched out or something." Shinsou replied, stretching her legs now. She swung them over the side of the bed when she was done.
"Say, Mr. Aizawa, can I just leave the hospital or do they wanna keep me here for something?" she wanted to know.
"I think you'll be fine to leave. They just checked your shoulder and then dumped you in a hospital bed, so you could get some sleep. You should be fine to leave whenever, but make sure you check in with Tsukauchi first. He wants to get your eye witness account before you leave." Aizawa said. Shinsou nodded slowly and then suddenly looked at him, a little smile tugging on her lips.
"Professor, did you wait here for me to wake up?" she wanted to know. Aizawa felt a little panic rising up in his chest, as he looked at her. He felt like a deer caught in headlights. What was he supposed to say?
"Seemed like the right thing to do." he answered. Shinsou gave him a long look and then smiled.
"I'm glad you did. Would have sucked to wake up and be on my own, no idea what's going on." she said, as she hopped out of the bed.
"Where are you planning to go?" Aizawa asked, raising an eyebrow. Shinsou yawned and stretched again, walking a few steps, as if she was testing out how well her legs were working.
"Guess, we gotta go and find Tsukauchi, so I can give him my version of what happened and then I should probably head home, before someone gets worried." she replied, checking her pockets for her keys and her phone.
"Sounds like a plan. Come on, let's go and look for him." Aizawa said and got up from his chair. He followed Shinsou out of the room and along the hallway. It seemed like this floor was almost completely empty.
A lot of the nurses had actually been busy as hell with Stain. Aizawa had heard the whole operation was difficult and he actually had been on the brink of death several times, before they managed to get him in a stable condition. Right now, everyone was probably busy with Midoriya, Todoroki and Iida.
"Oh my God, Kao-chan!" someone suddenly exclaimed. The aisle was pretty dark, so it was difficult to make out who it was. Shinsou seemed to be familiar with them, however. She squinted into the dark.
"Toshi?" she asked.
"What the hell? I was worried about you! Why do you always go and do dangerous shit like that, Kao-chan?" the boy asked. When he got closer to hug Shinsou tightly, Aizawa saw that it was her little brother.
"Comes with the job, Toshi." she told him with a tired smile.
"You could have died! I saw how you just ran at that massive dude, it was on TV and everything. My God, Kao-chan, what were you thinking?" Hitoshi Shinsou asked over and over again.
"I'm fine, Toshi, really. My shoulder hurts a little, but that's all. Mr. Aizawa and I were just about to go and report to Tsukauchi and then I was going to head home. I literally barely got injured." Kaori answered.
"Then why are you in a hospital, huh?"
"She's alright, Shinsou. No need to worry about your sister. She's in the hospital because she collapsed from exhaustion, so they figured it would be best if they let her sleep in here for a while. So when you two get home, make sure she tries to get some more sleep, alright?" Aizawa chimed in. It was nice that Hitoshi Shinsou cared so much about his older sister, but Aizawa was getting tired himself and was kind of glad that Kaori had finally woken up, because it meant he would be able to get another few hours of sleep before he had to head into university for his lectures.
"Uh... sure, Mr. Aizawa. Thanks. It's just... this is the third or fourth time within a month she gets into trouble like this." Hitoshi said.
"Well, it won't be the last time. She's right when she says it comes with the job. Plus, it seems like Tsukauchi has taken a liking to her, so he might want to get her to intern in the national police agency." he replied. Kaori Shinsou let go of her brother and looked at Aizawa with big eyes.
"Really? Did... did he say that?" she asked, excitement literally dripping from her eyes. She looked way too happy about that.
"He didn't say anything, he just... had a look on his face. Anyway, how about we go and talk to him and then I can bring the two of you home. Sound good?" Aizawa suggested. Kaori nodded enthusiastically.
"Sure. I'll wait here. Oh, and Kao-chan? I got them yesterday evening, two of them. You gotta see them when we get home, they're the sweetest little things." Hitoshi said to his sister and winked. Kaori gasped.
"Oh my God, really? I can't wait! See you in a bit!" she answered as she tried to keep up with Aizawa who had started to walk ahead. She had a big grin on her face when she turned back.
"What's waiting for you at home?" Aizawa wanted to know.
"Oh, Toshi has been looking to adopt some kittens for a while now and he finally found some and got the okay from our parents, so I'm assuming he got two little kittens. I can't wait to see them... say, are you a cat person, Mr. Aizawa?" she replied. Aizawa felt a pang in his heart. He loved cats. He loved cats so, so much. It took all of his willpower not to ask if Kaori had pictures of their new kittens.
"I like cats." was all he answered.
