I love Disney movies like Maleficent. In the original Sleeping Beauty all we saw was her evil side and a mistress of darkness driven by anger to the point of transforming into a fire breathing dragon! However in Maleficent we see the why’s, the motivation behind what drove her to take those actions. We see her innocence as a young fairy. We see her regret after Aurora drifts into her eternal slumber. Most importantly, we see her unconditional love and humanity (despite being a fairy creature). I believe most of us are like Maleficent. We have days where wake up on the wrong side of the bed, flip people off in traffic, and get impatient with our loved ones. But we also have days where give hugs and advice to those who struggle, pay for someone’s meal as a kind gesture, laugh with others and celebrate their victories. Depending other people’s viewing points we could been seen as completely evil and coldhearted or loving and generous. Some people will see us from the mountain top and look down on us, while others will view us from the valley and look up to us. Regardless of how others see you or what labels they place upon you, remember that you are multifaceted creation made from the divine. The good and bad shape your character. Both sides equally make you interesting and dynamic. Perception is relative. Figured it was high time I shared my Beloved Beast images with you. With minor tweaking from me on the incredible images taken by Emily @the_picturepeople @centreatsalisbury for me this past month. This is one of the amazing shots taken. Thanks so much and I hope you love them as much as me. The cowl and face came from @fxwarehouse as well as all the complete makeup kit and some of the crepe wool used to handpunch his mane. The ears I used are actually from @themonkeyrodeo and while nor easily seen added a touch of believability to the whole look. The gloves are @zagonemasks brown werewolf gloves. “On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?” - Baymax “Physical or emotional?” - Hiro I had the most difficult time choosing a theme for this month because September is usually kind of a chill month, not much going on and not too many holidays to be celebrated (besides Labor Day). So I was stumped which Disney movie fit this month. Big Hero 6 was a movie that came into my mind the most because I was thinking about how it deals with loss and depression, and during this pandemic many of us have already experienced this. I recently experienced this a few weeks ago when it dawned on me that I haven’t seen my friends in person in a very long time and I haven’t been to my favorite places to hang out since the pandemic started. I found myself completely lost and exhausted and the only thing that comforted me was playing video games and Skyping with my friends every chance I got. So if many of you wondered why I haven’t posted any drawings in a while, that is why. Big Hero 6 dealt with heavy topics that was easy for kids to understand and adults could relate to it. The movie reminds us that loss and depression is real and that it is extremely important to pick ourselves back up when we are ready to venture out into the world again and be surrounded by our friends and loved ones. In this case for all us, we surround ourselves with loved ones online so please do me a favor and check on that friend or family member of yours you haven’t spoken to in a while. I am sure you will make their day with a simple text or phone call. I consider Big Hero 6 to be one of the best Disney Marvel films of our generation and it really deserved the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. If you still haven’t seen it and have Disney Plus, I think it is high time that you do. And on a side note, I give props to the actress who voiced Honey Lemon who pronounced Hiro’s name correctly.
