Saint Dominic
1170 - 1221
Feast Day: August 8 (New), August 4 (Trad)
Patronage: Astronomers, astronomy, Dominican Republic, falsely accused people, stargazing
Saint Dominic Guzman was a Spanish priest and founder of the Dominican Order. He is the patron saint of astronomy and science, a reflection of his lifelong love of learning and teaching. When Dominic was baptized as a baby, his mother reportedly saw a star shining from his chest. In portraits, he is often depicted with a star shining on or above his head. And although there is no evidence that St. Dominic ever studied astronomy himself, this aspect of scientific learning was well known when St. Dominic attended university, and it's certainly possible that he was exposed to the mysteries of the heavens.

Beautiful photos of Adita Gracia, Maria's younger sister, taken in 1944 when she arrived in Hollywood with her sisters.
The first photo, which is a beautiful scan, was sent to me by @74paris whom I thank for this beautiful gift.

Coming into the new year, I am letting myself enjoy making things again. I finally made my fursona avatar, living my lil fantasy of being a barista and owner of a small-town diner where he gets to serve warmth and happiness to his friends. 💕

Saint Margaret of Hungary
1242 - 1271
Feast Day: January 18
Patronage: against floods
St. Margaret of Hungary, Daughter of King Bela IV, became a Dominican novice at the age of twelve. Although she was a princess among nuns who were of noble descent, she objected to any special treatment and went out of her way to perform the most menial tasks and the most exacting labors on behalf of the squalid poor and most advanced hospital cases. The extent of her labors and fasting and hours of prayer brought on the fatigue of which she died on January 18.
