Welcome to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger.
#Fear and Hunger#D'arce Cataliss#Cahara#Ragnvaldr#Enki Ankarian#Unlike Dungeon Meshi - I cannot in good faith recommend this game to a broad audience.#My background with F&H goes as follows: I am hanging out with a friend. He says “hey try this game I've been playing.” I say “Okay!”#I have never heard of this game. I pick the mercenary. I go through 5 min of character history and background. I am mauled to death by dogs#It took me 4 resets to even get in the dungeon. But I finally get there. I am caught by a guard. He cuts off all but one of my limbs#I am forced to crawl around in a blood and corpse pit until the game tells me 'give up idiot'.#I reset. I am mauled by dogs again. I realize this is not for me but I am intrigued enough to go home and watch some playthroughs#And WOW what an interesting game it is! I really do appreciate games that blend their design philosophy with the theme it wants to set#This is a game about fear and hunger. And persevering. And penis (my god is there a lot of penis)#I recommend this to people who like extremely challenging games and can handle the many *content warnings* within this series#If the idea of Bloodborne/eldenring and undertale having a little RPG maker baby sounds appealing to you - give it a shot#It's made by ONE GUY and it's a great horror game. I am just really bad at it.#My friends just enjoy putting me in situations where I scream and yell. We don't talk about the corn mazes. Or the other horror game nights#Apparently I'm funny when I'm Scared!#As people who follow me on twitter might know; I am deep in the pits of this series right now. I will be back with more art.

Dam being a Jason Grace stan in the fandom is a fucking tragedy lol. Not only do we have to deal with him being screwed over by uncle Rick, but we have to deal with the fandom hating him aswell lol, i feel like Jason Grace slander wouldnt affect me half as much if his character had gotten a happy ending. I just saw an Instagram reel about a "character's povs you skipped through'' and the comments were flooded with Jason Grace just like I'd expected lol 😭 like blud has no mercy there.
It took all my will power to not defend him under a comment that called him "homophobic", I cannot believe that comment had 4 people agreeing aswell like- did we read the same books? Did they completey skip over the coming out chapter in HOH where jason was literally the first person to tell Nico not to be ashamed of liking guys and that no one would judge him? the guy is legit one of the least problematic characters and does nothing mean, how is he even CONSIDERED in the homophobic area anyway? (he also gets slandered for being "too nice" aswell lol) so seeing him wind up in such a contradictory accusation just screams tone deaf and anti-jason bias tbh, Nico legit said he considered jason as one of his first friend/supporter (apart from his sisters) in TSATS :') its like ppl keep throwing in these false stuff bc they WANT to find a reason to hate him. (dont take this as me saying you are not allowed to hate him or something cuz that would be quite hypocritical of me, wouldnt it? i just hate that ppl make up problematic hcs of him and push them as canon, it would taint non-reader's perception of him because of false info, what if a non reader stumbled across that comment and immediately figured that jason was indeed homophobic even when he wasn't?)
Also, can we please normalize NOT judging a person for their character preferences? I like jason and i am aware that its an unpopular take, but that doesnt make me any less of a pjo fan. The fandom seems pretty aggressive when we dont follow the popular opinion. i have seen multiple ppl pretend to hate jason simply bc they WANT to fit in and "look cool", since the fandom has a tendency to use Jason as a punching bag to insult like "he's a knockoff percy" or "he thinks he's so cool but he's not". or smth, so when people do claim jason as a favourite, a huge chunk of the fandom start belittling them and go like "really? Out of all characters, why jason?" Or "Percy/Leo is better, I don't understand why you like Jason"
okay thanks for coming to my ted talk. i am aware that i was yapping here. unfair Jason Grace slander does that to me.

I LOVE THIS SHOW SO FUCKING MUCH!
Tumblr media
The previews haven't lied to us once! The previews told us Pisaeng was going to show up at Kawi's in his wedding tux and kiss him, and he did. The previews showed us Pisaeng was going to confess to Kawi on the rooftop, and he did! Then the previews said Kawi would kiss Pisaeng, AND HE DID!
Tumblr media
Kawi told Pear he liked her and she kindly rejected him. Pisaeng told Pear he has no feelings for her beyond friendship. Pisaeng told Kawi he liked him, and Kawi kindly told Pisaeng the feelings were not reciprocated.
AND NOW THIS!
Tumblr media
And this!
Tumblr media
Kawi intended to tell Pisaeng he is from the future, and even though Pisaeng probably thought Kawi was drunk rambling, it matters that Kawi wants to tell Pisaeng. And for Pisaeng to have felt he was gay for YEARS, and finally have the confidence to tell his mom that he doesn't need her approval or shielding from reality was amazing.
This show isn't lying to us! I can trust it! Because when Pisaeng asked Max if he felt isolated after realizing he was gay, Max answered honestly.
Tumblr media
This has been a big discussion this week for Step by Step, so seeing the boundaries between Max and Pisaeng although Max is slightly crossing it, shows there is hesitation on both sides, but they are growing closer. Unlike these clear boundaries.
Tumblr media
Kawi had a double boundary with Pear after he realized Pisaeng told her his issue, but with Pisaeng, Kawi was boxed in the boundary.
Tumblr media
It started at the dinner, with Pisaeng's window being opened but Kawi boxed in.
Tumblr media
And it continued throughout the night until Kawi crossed the line multiple times (IN THE PINK!).
Tumblr media
And after that, they were boxed in, together.
Tumblr media
It's great that Pisaeng's mom stated that Pisaeng never brings anyone over because she said it due to Pisaeng bringing a drunk Kawi home, but we learned Kawi was there earlier, and very sober, to get a shirt from Pisaeng, and they were boxed in together then as well. So will Pisaeng's place serve as their safe space?
Tumblr media
Even more interesting is, much like Step by Step and the rich boys' closets, Pisaeng's closet has mirrors (reflective) and glass.
Tumblr media
After Pisaeng's conversation with his mom, we realize that Pisaeng, much like Step by Step's Jeng, isn't closeted but can't be OUT out. Pisaeng has known he was different and has been sad and isolated since with his ironic Cheers Queers Beer.
Tumblr media
I mentioned it last week, but this show is really harping on the honesty aspect for all its characters. Kawi, who never drank before, is trying to drown all his conflicted feelings in alcohol instead of being honest with himself. Pear's dad encouraged MORE drinking, while Pisaeng refused to drink what his mother offers him. Kawi is running but Pisaeng is done trying to bury his emotions.
Tumblr media
But when Kawi woke up the next day after kissing Pisaeng, he immediately asked Pisaeng if it was a dream at breakfast, then he attempted to ask Pisaeng about it again.
Tumblr media
And right before he crossed the line with Pisaeng AGAIN and leaned his head on Pisaeng's shoulder, he admitted that he hates himself for "sucking so much" that he needs constant help from everyone else.
Tumblr media
Because the first time Kawi crossed the line was to stop Pisaeng from leaving, which caused him to apologize to Pisaeng for being a jerk, and we'll see him ask Pisaeng to stay AGAIN next week in the hospital. Kawi is literally and figuratively starting to reach out for comfort.
Tumblr media
This show really is telling us that being ourselves is good enough, but we have to be honest with ourselves so we can figure out who we really are.
Tumblr media
I HATE that Not cannot stop putting his own foot in his mouth every two seconds, but Pear pushing back against what he believes is a "straight man" is the type of reflection the show is commanding of its characters and us as the audience.
Tumblr media
Max questioned Kawi about what is wrong with him and why he keeps pushing Pisaeng away. Kawi questioned Pisaeng about why he continues to be so nice to him. And Pear questioned Not about his ideas on masculinity and sexuality. All the questions require some level of self-reflection, which Kawi is having to do in leaps and bounds sandwiched between an abundance of knowledge.
Tumblr media
Pear also encouraged Kawi to be honest with her.
Tumblr media
Because the answers we seek aren't at the bottom of a bottle, but deep within ourselves.
Tumblr media
A show that hasn't lied to us yet is leading by example - We must be honest.
Sidenotes:
Pisaeng having to basically tell Kawi to shut up and eat because Kawi is too honest about everything else except his emotions was hilarious.
Tumblr media
Kawi jumps into the future next week and sees he's a famous musician, but I think he stays there for a bit and this is where we will get the future issues from the trailer.
Tumblr media
Because Kawi didn't look sad when he moved the globe, so I'm hoping his dad does well in surgery which prompts Kawi to see how his life is now that his dad is alive.
Tumblr media
But I'm worried this line will come back to haunt us.
Tumblr media
I loved that we were shown Pisaeng changing Kawi without any sexual connotation. It's important to see this without it being implied that the gay man can't control himself. This scene was merely a man trying to help his friend.
Tumblr media
And Pisaeng stopping the second he realized Kawi was asleep and sleeping on the chair rather than the bed were more excellent choices.
Tumblr media
Finally, the nod to performative allyship where the mom is fine with her employees being gay but has strategically tried to keep her child in the closet is the sweet subtle commentary I live for. This is also why Pisaeng did not tell Max, a Tired Gay, that she was his mother. It would be rough to hear that she isn't as cool as presented.
Tumblr media
Max, the best character and a Tired Gay, is gonna have to kill his idol.
Tumblr media
(My colors theory is sticking. Pear was in a light purple, but Pisaeng was in Kawi's brown. He changed into black after kissing Kawi. Is Max blue though?)

i cannot stop thinking about ian rider. more specifically, how alex had so many unprocessed feelings about him after his death. imagine being an orphan, getting adopted by your uncle as a baby, having him raise you for 14 years then discovering he lied to you your entire life. that he [unintentionally or not] trained you to be something you never wanted to be under the guise of bonding with you. never being able to ask him what his actual intentions were because he's dead. never getting closure for it. im going to throw up.

FowlFest 2023, day5, favourite scene
Heavy tlc spoilers
Artemis,
Help me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't possibly talk enough about this scene. And theres no valid excuse for that!
Tumblr media
We all, including Holly, know what he did was for the better; and he did not in fact let her die.
But imagine being stabbed through your heart with a fucking cursed sword, and you ask the one and only person you trust to save you in that situation for help, only to be watched to death before their very eyes.
And Holly had never asked for help. I don't remember her doing it after either. She does shit on her own. The agony, the pain, and oh boy the TRUST, for her to do that.
Its painful.
Yes, Artemis in fact didn't let holly die, but she is to forever have nightmares about that moment. And in her dreams, Artemis does indeed only care enough to glance her way briefly.

I haven't read HoO so idk I could be wrong/maybe they talk about it in the series but let me just lay out for you what I know: 1) there's a Roman demigod camp called Camp Jupiter 2) It's run like the Roman military 3) there's also a city/complex for adults/families within/attached to it(?)
Anyway the point is that I think it's super interesting that the Roman counterpart to Camp Half Blood (named after the kids it supports/shelters/teaches) is named Camp Jupiter? Like first of all I feel like "camp" in a military setting makes me feel like it's transitory but they've clearly made something pretty permanent so why go with "camp" instead of say "fort" or "base"? And the fact that it's named after the King of the Gods sounds to me like it's indicative of their values; where the Greek camp (lol) values the heroes they're training, the Roman camp appears (again, without reading) to value the gods over the participants of their programming/organization?

I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I think a big reason why I'm so chill about the changes made to the PJO show from the books is because I kind of look at each other as their own seperate canon.
Like, I read a lot of anime and manga, and anime adaptations have a huge habit for changing plot points for various reasons, and as a fan of said anime and manga, I've found that I can enjoy both versions of the same story even with the differences when I look at them as their own universe or canon. That's not to say I don't want them to be faithful or true to the source material, but if a scene or situation plays out differently for a logical or entertaining reason, than I can still appreciate that deviation from the manga even if I still like the other original version of that part more. And I can even like the reversal way if I feel an anime does something better than even the manga. But if I want to, I can look at certain moments as more canon than others because I got 2 different versions of that same scene or moment.
And, I don't know, I kind of apply that reasoning to the PJO series as well, mainly with the books, the show, and even the musical (not the movies put that right back where it came from). So far I'm loving the TV show, and while I miss some of the things they changed (like the pink poodle), this adaptation really is doing a great job with staying true to the heart and spirit of the original book that I personally am not even really bothered by the changes, especially when I remember that the books will always still be there with it's own version, or canon, of events.
Like, I will say 1 thing I adore in the books that isn't really in the show is the fact that a lot of Percy and Annabeth's "rivalry" during TLT has more to do with the rivalry between Poseidon and Athena. I just really like on how this adds a level of "forbidden friendship/love" to their relationship 'cause I personally eat the forbidden relationship trope up, especially when it's done well like with Percabeth.
Yet, even if this isn't really the reason percabeth have beef with each other in the show, I can still appreciate and enjoy that according to the show's canon, they have issues because they genuinely have problems with each other as actual people rather than their parents' rivalry, because at the end of the day, that's the PJO TV show canon, and I can always turn to the books for that version of Percabeth's "rivalry", as that is the PJO book canon.
Same goes for the characters too. I will always have and love my dark haired Percy and blond haired Annabeth in the books, but I can also welcome and love Walker's Percy and Leah's Annabeth from the show. And so far, they along with Aryan are KILLING IT as those characters.
I can love both versions of the characters.
I can love both versions of the same story.
I can look at both versions as they own seperate canon or mix them together if I so wish too (especially since both versions of PJO are written by the same guy)
And that's ok. The adaptation doesn't have to be a complete copy of the books. It doesn't have to have things play out eactly the same way. The characters don't have to look exactly the way they are described as in the books. And that's ok. I will still always have the books to love and appreciate, but I can also start to love and appreciate the new adaptation for it's new spin and twists to the same story that sets it apart as it's own canon while still staying true to the spirit of its predecessor.
Anyway, sorry if I'm not making a lot of sense. I just think the people complaining about the changes in the show are looking at it all the wrong way. The show has it's own canon just as the books have their own canon, or even the musical. At the end of the day, isn't that kind of cool to have different versions of the same story and characters? Doesn't it give you so many more options to look at the story in different ways that you can prefer or choose from? Doesn't it give you new versions of canon that you choose from? And really, as long as the PJO adaptation, or any adaptation for that matter, stays true to the heart and spirit of the original story and characters, do the changes made really matter?
#anyway sorry for the long post#I've just been seeing a lot of people complaining about the PJO making changes from the books and I thought I give my 2 cents#& I thought about how the show dies make enough changes to certain events or plotpoints that you could look at it as its own seperate canon#and how that actually is kind of cool as it gives us another version of the same story and characters#it's actually really neat to have different versions of the same story ya know#its like. if I ever want the Percabeth that has more of a 'forbidden relationship' thing going on. there's always the book canon to fall on#likewise if I want the percabeth where they're rivals because they have genuine issues w/ eachother. there's the TV show. ya know?#and if I want the Athena that I can at least somewhat believe might actually care for Annabeth. there's the book canon#whereas if I want the Athena I straight up wanna strangle from the getgo. I now got the TV show for that😊#same with the characters descriptions#I personally still imagine Percy and Annabeth as they are described in the books#but I am positvely loving Leah and Walker's portrayal of TV Percy and Annabeth so much. especially in these last few episodes.#and don't get me started on how much I love Aryan as Grover. he's the GOAT (literally🤭)#anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk#I just think its neat that Ive now got 2. even 3 versions of PJO canon that I can love together and individually at my disposal now#and I just think the people who are complaining about the show aren't seeing it that way and that's why they're whining about changes#like. chill guys. we still have the books. but now we also the show and musical to give us new versions of the same story and characters#and is that not amazing when you think about it?#percy jackson series#percy jackson and the olympians#percy jackson tv show#percy jackson#percy and annabeth#athena#annabeth chase#grover underwood#book vs show#percy jackson books#percy jackson musical#percabeth
