i cannot stop thinking about ian rider. more specifically, how alex had so many unprocessed feelings about him after his death. imagine being an orphan, getting adopted by your uncle as a baby, having him raise you for 14 years then discovering he lied to you your entire life. that he [unintentionally or not] trained you to be something you never wanted to be under the guise of bonding with you. never being able to ask him what his actual intentions were because he's dead. never getting closure for it. im going to throw up.

Summary: The final battle begins....
Notes: You must read Out Of Time in order to understand this. The chapter numbers continue from Out Of Time.

Y/N was lost in the midst of the chaos. Her unconscious body getting caught in one of the lower levels of the rubble. Tony was up first, searching for Y/N. He found the shield and Steve instead.
“Come on, buddy,” Tony urged, kneeling beside his brother-in-law. “Wake up.” Steve groaned, coming to. “That’s my man.” Tony held the shield up. “You lose this again, I’m keeping it.”
“What happened?” Steve asked.
“You messed with time. It tends to mess back. You’ll see.” Tony helped Steve to his feet.
“Where’s Y/N?”
“I was hoping she was with you. FRIDAY?”
“I am searching for her location, boss” FRIDAY responded.
“Please tell me that she’s alive."
“She has to be,” Steve said. “The Stones won’t allow anything to happen to her.”
“I’ve located Mrs. Stark,” FRIDAY announced. “She’s underneath the rubble.”
“Great, where?” Tony pressed.
“Tony,” Steve said, “maybe we need to deal with—“
“Deal with what?! Your sister—my wife is down there in who knows what kind of condition! We—I need to get to her!”
“Boss,” FRIDAY interrupted, “I don’t know if Y/N would see that as the best idea.”
“What?! Why are you choosing now to talk back, FRIDAY?”
“Because Thanos is here. Thor is currently watching him not too far from where you are.” Steve and Tony made eye contact.
“Y/N can protect herself,” Steve told his worried friend. “The she’ll be fine because the Stones need her.”
Tony nodded and the two walked out of the rubble they were in. They found Thor intensely watching Thanos, who was sitting on something not too far off.
“What’s he been doing?” Tony asked.
“Absolutely nothing,” Thor answered.
“Where are the Stones?” Steve questioned.
“Probably somewhere under all this,” Tony responded. “FRIDAY’s looking. All I know is he doesn’t have them.”
“So we keep it that way.”
“You know it’s a trap, right?” Thor said.
“Yeah,” Tony agreed. “And I don’t much care.”
“Good. Just as long we are all in agreement.” Thor stretched out both hands as thunder cracked. He summoned both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir, which he had stolen during the time heist. HIs casual clothes transformed into his armor and cape, with his beard forming into a braid. “Let’s kill him properly this time.”
The three walked down the rubble towards Thanos. All of them were very serious and ready to end this once and for all.
“You could not live with your own failure. And where did that bring you? Back to me,” Thanos stated, as the three heroes slowly moved to surround him. “I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you’ve shown me that’s impossible. And as long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist.”
“Yep. We’re all kinds of stubborn,” Tony replied.
“I'm thankful. Because now, I know what I must do.” Thanos stood. “I will shred this universe down to its last atom.” He placed his helmet on his head. "And then– With the stones you've collected for me, create a new one. Teeming with life, but knows not what it has lost but only what it has been given.” Thor began crackling with lightning. “A grateful universe.”
“Born out of blood,” Steve said.
“They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them.”
And the fighting began.
~~~
Y/N groaned as she came to. Her head was pounding, it had obviously been hit during the chaos. She was breathing heavily as she took in her surroundings. There was a large metal beam trapping her against broken concrete.
“Hello!” She called out. “Is anyone there?”
No response. And she instantly regretted not putting a comms device in her ear. Y/N grunted as she tried to push the beam off of her, failing. Looking up, she studied the rubble barely hanging on above her. She needed to be careful or it was going to completely crush her.
“Use us,” a rough voice whispered to her in her head. “Use us.”
“It has always taken a lot from me to control you,” Y/N responded, aloud. “How am I suppose to do what I have to if I’m weak?”
“You’ll be fine.”
“What the hell am I even supposed to do anyway?”
“When the time comes, you will know.”
“You guys are incredibly unhelpful, you know?” She groaned as she tried to wiggle herself free again, without help from the Stones.
“You are wasting time.”
“Fine!” Y/N huffed.
She closed her eyes and tried to focus on the Stones.
~~~
“Okay, Thor! Hit me!” Tony exclaimed, the back of his suit opening up.
Thor banged his 2 weapons together, each loaded with lightning, and aimed them at the back of Tony’s suit. The Iron Man suit sucked up the energy and he shot it out at Thanos using his hands and body. Thanos twirled his blade really fast to divert the energy. Thor grabbed Stormbreaker and used it to bat Mjolnir to hit Thanos. Thanos used Tony as a shield, knocking him out and away.
“Boss, wake up!” FRIDAY pled.
Steve tried to attack Thanos but was easily shielded away. Thor’s attack was quickly blocked by Thanos’ sword. Thanos grabbed onto Thor and lifts him up by the neck, choking him, before slamming him down and punching him. Mjolnir is flicked away as Thanos relentlessly beats up Thor, throwing him into a tree and socking him before throwing Thor over rubble and socking him again. Thor tried to grab Stormbreaker but Thanos grabbed it and used it against Thor.
Form not too far off, Mjolnir began to float off the ground. Thanos was digging Stormbreaker into Thor, when suddenly Mjolnir flies into Thanos. It zoomed past, stopped, and then flew back the way it came. Both Thanos and Thor looked back in amazement as Steve wields the hammer.
“I knew it!” Thor said.
Frustrated, Thanos kicked Thor to the ground. Steve charged at the Titan, swinging Mjolnir, and hitting him in the face, knocking him down. Steve threw his shield and Thanos deflected. Steve threw Mjolnir to his shield, creating a shockwave and knocking Thanos off his feet.
Steve then threw his shield at Thanos, quickly hitting it back at the Titan again with Mjolnir. He lined his arm up with Thanos to channel lightning his way.
Thanos eventually got the upper hand, removing his helmet. He stabbed Steve’s leg and knocked Mjolnir out of the Captain’s hand. Thanos proceeded to destroy Steve’s shield with his double-bladed Soward and threw him across the battlefield. Steve staggeredly tried to get up.
“In all my years of conquest, violence, slaughter,” Thanos said, “it was never personal. But I’ll tell you now, what I’m about to do to your stubborn, annoying little planet—I’m gonna enjoy it. Very, very much.”
The entirety of Thanos’ army was then summoned to the ground. Upon seeing the army descending onto Earth, Steve slowly got back to his feet. With a fierce determination, he tightened his broken shield to his arm and stood against the army. Alone. Suddenly, a crackling came in on his comm.
“Hey, Cap, you read me?”
Steve stopped and looked around.
“Cap, it’s Sam. Can you hear me?”
A portal began to form behind the Captain.
“On your left.”
Steve looked behind to see the portal on his left side. Three figures stepped through; Okoye, Shuri, and T’Challa, all ready to fight. Sam then zoomed in from above. As he did, dozens of more portals opened up all around the battlefield. Through one of the portals, Doctor Strange appeared, joined by Drax, Mantis, Star Lord, and Spider-Man. Everyone on the battlefield watched in confusion and awe as more and more heroes arrive through the portals from all the corners of the universe.
Giant-Man (Scott) appeared out of the rubble with Rhodey, Bruce, and Rocket. Every one was lining up behind the Captain, all the teams and armies that Strange and the other sorcerers brought in to help. Tony was sitting up, finally coming around from the hit on his head. Suddenly, the ground in front of him began to tremble and crack. He pushed himself back as something blasted through it and into the sky. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was his wife.
Y/N was glowing with the power of the Stones. Each of the colors were circling around her, all six colors clearly defined. She slowly set herself down in front of Tony, the power fading away as she rushed to him.
“Tony! Are you okay?” She worried as she helped him to his feet.
“Am I okay?” He questioned. “You just shot up from the ground. You were glowing!”
“I’m okay. I’m ready to finish this. Once and for all.”
Tony pulled her in for a desperate kiss. Like he was terrified it would be their last. Y/N quickly reciprocated the desperation.
“I love you,” Tony breathed out as he pulled away.
“I love you too,” she responded.
They turned to join the group of heroes. Tony suited all the way up, while Y/N began to channel the Stones.
“AVENGERS!” Steve shouted, everyone gearing up as she summoned Mjolnir. “Assemble.”
Thor made a battle cry, as did T’Challa, and the heroes charged towards the opposing army. Thanos raised his sword towards the Avengers, signaling his army to charge as well. As the two armies collided, everyone short of paired up. Tony and Y/N were working together, keeping each other safe. Steve and Thor were doing the same thing, both switching off weapons. Steve had Stormbreaker in his hand while Thor had Mjolnir.
“No, no, give me that,” Thor said, tossing Mjolnir to Steve and signaling for Stormbreaker. “You have the little one.”
Steve passed Stormbreaker over and the two nodded to each other before running back into the battle. Y/N and Tony had gotten separated. Y/N could sense the Stones and knew she needed to get to them before Thanos did. It seemed that Thanos and his army knew that and were sending their biggest creatures to slow her down.
Despite her trying, Y/N was thrown down, plowing through the ground. She was panting, and groaning in pain. The creature stalked towards her as she tried to get back up. It raised its claws above its head and was just about to ship down on Y/N when someone stepped in-between her and the creature and killed it. Y/N inhaled sharply, still slightly panting, as she took in her hero. Bucky had turned, looking down at her with those eyes she had fallen in love with. But it wasn’t the same anymore. Y/N now knew that she was over him, though he would always have a place in her heart.
“Bucky,” she breathed out.
“Hey, doll,” he smiled softly, helping her off the ground.
“Bucky.”
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“Bucky.” She practically jumped on him, hugging him tightly. He held her close. “We did it… you’re back.”
“I’m back. Though it’s been mere seconds for me.”
Y/N pulled away. The two studied each other’s faces. Y/N was trying to figure out how to say what she needed to. Bucky was studying her, knowing what she needed to say.
“It’s okay,” he whispered. “I kept you waiting too many times. I get it.”
Tears pooled in her eyes. “I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re happy, right? He treats you right?”
“Yes. He treats me like a queen. We have a daughter. Morgan Howard Stark.”
“Howard?” Bucky chuckled lightly.
“Yeah, I was hesitant on it too. But Tony did some pretty good persuading.”
“I’m happy for you. Really.”
“Thank you.”
“Hey! Can you two old people stop catching up and come help us with the fight?” Sam exclaimed over the comms.
“Be right there,” Y/N responded. She shot out her hand to the side, blasting a creature into pieces. “Thanks for the save though, Buck. But I could have handled it.” She smirked before running off.
~~~
Tony was fighting by himself, creatures and one of the Children of Thanos were after him. He was punched at the ground and he was going to get back up when Giant Man stopped on the Child of Thanos. Peter swung in, immediately going to help Tony up.
“Hey! Holy cow! You will not believe what's been going on. Do you remember when we were in space? And I got all dusty?” Peter rambled after both his and Tony’s helmets disappeared. Tony was looking at Peter, trying not to brake out in a total grin. “I must've passed out, Because I woke up, and you were gone. But Doctor Strange was there, right? He was like, "It's been five years. Come on, they need us." And then he started doing the yellow sparkly thing that he does all the time–“
Tony took steps towards the teen. “He did?” He mumbled. “Oh, no.” He opened his arms and pulled the teen into him. “Hold me.”
“What are you doing?” Peter hugged back. Tony slapped Peter’s back and closed his eyes, holding him tighter. “Oh, this is nice.”
Y/N had noticed the two and had allowed them some time while she fought off the army. Finally, she was done. She landed behind them.
“Okay, boys, party’s over,” she commented.
“Y/N!” Peter exclaimed, rushing over to hug her.
“Hey, Peter,” she welcomed him into her arms. “I’m so glad you’re back. Now,” she pulled away, “keep fighting.”
“On it!” His helmet closed and he swung away.
The couple watched before making eye contact.
“We did it,” Tony whispered, coming closer to his wife.
“But it’s not over yet,” Y/N replied. She leaned in and kissed him. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
my ranking of the alex rider original series (stormbreaker through scorpia rising) from ‘book i least enjoy rereading’ to ‘book i most enjoy rereading’ let’s goooo
spoilers for all 9 books under the cut
9. Ark Angel
Tumblr media
...He went to space. He went to space. Also the entire plot could have been avoided if Drevin had actually bothered to provide a photograph of his son. I’m sure he had one. I still like this book but it’s literally so insane that I just don’t know what to do with it.
It is however really funny that Webber just goes and gives a speech insulting this super high-profile ecoterrorist group and acts like it’s no big deal and then they kill him. Shock of shocks.
8. Skeleton Key
Tumblr media
Okay, points to this book for terrifying the shit out of me. God damn it does that shark scene scare me. Also, points for making me feel a little bit bad for a man who wants to nuke his own country because he thinks it will fix the place up. I’m still not entirely sure how that’s supposed to work, but that’s probably a good thing. I feel like understanding his thought process would say bad things about me. Still, I actually did feel sorry for him, if only a little. Dude was clearly mentally unstable and I doubt his son’s death helped at all. I also got sad about what happened to Carver and Troy. (Yeah, yeah, I’m a cringe fail American who has the American release. So sue me.) What a nightmare that must’ve been to endure... Otherwise, though, I’m not super into this book. The opening is just kind of meh and the way it leads into the rest of the plot seems a little bit unbelievable. Also, this might be an unpopular opinion, but Sabina annoys me. I would not get along with her at all and I can’t imagine her as a girlfriend. Skeleton Key does, however, absolutely excel at the emotional scenes.
Also, why are all the spy agencies so comfortable with sending in a 14-year-old? Especially when they outright admit that the other attempts have all died horribly? Bureaucracy’s a bitch.
7. Point Blank
Tumblr media
Boo, Dr. Grief! Boo! We hate your white supremacy! I’m so glad you got a snowmobile to the face, you deserved it. (Perks of books written by Jewish people--we aren’t afraid to give the neo-Nazis an unpleasant death.) Anyway, this book definitely isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t really say it stands out in the series. It definitely does hammer home the point of just how trapped Alex is, since MI6 isn’t going to just let him go after one mission, and let’s face it, the plot with the clones is creepy as hell, if highly improbable. But I’m largely just here to see the neo-Nazi get snowmobiled. That’s right, I just completely changed the definition of a pre-established word. I’m a rebel.
Also, I hate Fiona Friend so much and overall think she just didn’t need to be in the book, but the line about ‘I’d rather kiss the horse’ made me laugh so hard. Alex, you sass.
6. Snakehead
Tumblr media
Okay, let’s talk about how genius the plan in this book is. I love it! I love how Yu wants to kill the people involved in the peace conference without making them into martyrs, so he comes up with this whole elaborate plan to stage a natural disaster. It’s incredible. This dude was thinking so far ahead. And he would’ve gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for that meddling kid... But anyway, I don’t see a lot of books where the villain really acknowledges that killing their enemies could just cause more problems for them via turning them into martyrs for a cause. Also, the way he’s so polite and soft-spoken while also being a complete monster... This book genuinely gives me chills. Extra bonus points for the part in the hospital, the absolute nightmare of having all your organs slowly removed and sold off and everyone around you is being so nice about it? ‘Oh, don’t worry, Alex, it won’t be so bad. Here, take your medicine. Do you need anything?’ Literally just. What the fuck.
Also Ash can fucking fight me. You put your own godson in horrible danger on purpose! You killed your best friend! Bastard.
...And just in case the book wasn’t disturbing enough, Yu’s fate at the end lives in my mind rent-free and I think about it on a concerningly regular basis considering that the chances of that happening to me are so low they’re practically in the negatives. Damn you, Horowitz.
I would also be remiss if I did not mention just how much I love the tagline ‘once bitten, twice spy’.
5. Crocodile Tears
Tumblr media
Ah yes, the book that kickstarted my drift away from the church... I kid, of course. I drifted away from the church for completely separate reasons. But Desmond McCain is always going to scare the shit out of me. The ability to kill countless innocent people while blissfully quoting Bible verses (that he takes wildly out of context and uses for his own self-serving means) is... well, I could actually say a lot about what that reminds me of, but I’m here to rate books, not religion. Moving on. This book has some really stellar antagonists, and the plot is chilling in a way that feels a lot more realistic than most of the other books. Even if some of it is a bit farfetched (sabotaging a nuclear power plant? Really?), the idea of using disasters for your own profit... well. I’m sure I don’t need to elaborate on why that is so believable. The Poison Dome is also a really cool and chilling scene--even Alex, who has the luck of the devil, can’t get out of that one unscathed. Further scares come in with the fate of Harold Bulman--imagine having your entire existence wiped and your identity changed while you were asleep! The breakdown he has over it is almost enough to make me feel sorry for him, even though he was ready to exploit a teenager and make his life a living hell just to turn a profit. Note the word almost.
Also. The opening makes me cry. Specifically the line talking about how Ravi’s kids would ‘never meet Mickey Mouse’. I lose my goddamn mind every single time I read it. That little personal touch turns the scene from a statistic to a tragedy. Once again: Damn you, Horowitz.
4. Stormbreaker
Tumblr media
Yeah, this one gets the special cover shot. And why not? What we are looking at here is the birth of a legend. Move the fuck over, James Bond, Alex Rider is on the scene now. Anyway, yeah, this book is pretty damn spectacular. It has its stumbles, but as the first book in a series, that’s to be expected. Still, it pulls you in from quite literally the first line and keeps you going right up until the end. (If you came here from my post of memes, you know how much the line ‘Killing is for grownups, and you’re still a child’ destroys me.) It has the debut of much-beloved characters such as, of course, Alex--but also Jack Starbright, and of course, the best MI6 agent of them all, which is to say Smithers. Hell, even Yassen Gregorovich, especially once you get through Russian Roulette... Man, that was a rough one.
Seriously, though. This is a really good book. The scene with the Portuguese man-o’-war still gives me the chills to think about. (Have you ever looked up pictures of those things? They’re beautiful, but holy shit will they make you regret being born. Nature is funny like that.)
We also get the introduction of, of course, Alex’s patented sass (his response to Sayle saying he relates to the man-o’-war is HILARIOUS) and we get the inherent humor of Alex screwing up an alias one time and then just going by Alex for the rest of the series so he doesn’t do that again. Really, kid, I know you’re not a trained spy or anything but did you never play pretend growing up? Ever? You can’t pretend your name is Felix for a little while? That sounds like a you problem.
3. Scorpia Rising
Tumblr media
I distinctly remember when this book came out, actually. I was on vacation at the time, and I remember my brother annoying the hell out of the poor workers at a bookstore we frequented there to see if/when they were going to get it in. They did, finally, and we bought it immediately, and I was of course absolutely desperate to read it. He got to read it first, though. -_-
This is a great book, an absolute emotional rollercoaster all the way through. The way Blunt tricks Alex back into service by staging a shooting was exactly the kind of cold, brutal behavior I’d expect from him. Seeing Julius come back was shocking, but very exciting, too. And Razim makes an incredibly chilling villain, with his absolute disregard for human life and his desire to measure pain. Also, seeing Smithers’s house was so much fun. Smithers in this book was just really fun in general, but he’s really fun in every book, so... nothing unusual there. But also, I want an unwelcome mat. Please?
2. Eagle Strike
Tumblr media
‘But Penny,’ you might ask, ‘why is this book so high on your list? It has so much of Sabina in it, and you said she annoys you.’ That is true. What does not annoy me, however, is basically the entire rest of the book. I love the tense opening, and then reading through Alex’s real-life ‘playthrough’ of Feathered Serpent is still one of my favorite scenes. Cray is absolutely incredible as a villain, with the way that he truly believes in his cause--which is undoubtedly a good one! Yet the extremes to which he will go for that cause, and the fact that he very nearly succeeds, are what elevate him to one of the most dangerous villains in the series. That scene with Charlie Roper and the nickels is something I can never seem to stop thinking about. Actually, I think about it basically whenever I think about large amounts of money paid in small increments...
Also, I really enjoy how he gets into the whole plot in the first place, and I really enjoy Smithers saying ‘ah, fuck it’ and helping him out anyway. Go, Smithers. You once again prove me right in saying that you’re the coolest adult in MI6.
The revelation that Yassen knew Alex’s father is one that absolutely blew my mind first time around. The way his life was threaded into the lives of the Rider family--he worked with John Rider, was saved by him, killed Ian Rider, and then died for refusing to kill Alex Rider--wow. Wow. It gets to me. It really gets to me. This book is a masterpiece. I heard that it’s going to be what the second season of the TV series is based off of, and I’m so hyped for that. We love to see it, we really do.
1. Scorpia
Tumblr media
I don’t believe anyone who says this book didn’t get to them at all. I just think they are lying. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to not be affected by this book. God. Just thinking about it reminds me of why I don’t think it’s possible. I mean, come on. We get all this backstory about Alex’s parents, we get tricked along with him into thinking MI6 killed his father, then bam, that was a lie, and Alex may have just fucked himself over big time. Also, that plot is terrifying! (And I bet anti-vaxxers had a field day with it, huh.) Julia Rothman is a really great antagonist, one of the only ones who didn’t go and explain her plan in great detail to Alex--the fact that she didn’t actually being a plot point was something I personally found pretty clever. In general, this book is... I tend to hate when people say they ‘can’t put it down’ because it’s usually an obvious exaggeration, but that really is how I feel reading it.
And again. If that ending didn’t get to you... Well, I just think you are lying.
Epilogue
Born a King.
There are so many things Thor doesn't remember missing about home. The sound of his footsteps as he walked on the bridge, the glimmer of gold when light reflected on it, or the creatures that Earth could never have.
He still had Asgard, at every smile and every nod as he would walk past his people. At every meal and every feast with his people, every conversation with Valkyrie, and every disagreement with Loki. He still had home in them.
Born a King.
He doesn't remember missing the bruises of battles fought, or the stiff muscles of every war won. The anticipation before a fight, or the unpredictability of space. The adrenaline that came with every spark of lightening, the power that came with the energy coursing through his blood. He doesn't remember missing any of that about home.
He doesn't remember why he keeps getting coffee grains of that brand, or how Loki survived in space. He can't remember what colour the ceiling was in the throne room or why he keeps leaving Stormbreaker in the closet. He doesn't remember that being part of home.
Born a King.
He doesn't remember what it felt like when you walked in through the door, or how the look in your eyes made him feel every time you found him on the couch –  that too small for two couch –  waiting for you. He doesn't remember the way you would try and squirm your way out of his grip in the morning, trying to escape before he made you late again.
He doesn't remember hating the little jokes you would make, or the stupid way you stumbled over your words when he got you flustered. He doesn't remember getting annoyed at the sight of the missing toothbrush next to his, or the milk that he keeps getting and ends up getting spoiled because no one drinks it, or the coffee that's slowly filling up the cupboard. He doesn't remember hating the thought of you.
When the hell did you become home to him?
Born a fucking King.
Then why is the thought of you, sharing your jokes with someone else, making him feel so powerless?
Why is the possibility of another man in your bed, your sheets, poisoning his judgement?
He was born a king, powerful and strong. So, why... why did leaving you make him feel so weak?
Thor was made for a throne, a Kingdom. Not a woman, not a Midgardian woman.
But he doesn't remember yearning for something he cannot have when he was with you. He doesn't remember missing the land he was raised on when he was with you.
He doesn't remember missing home. Especially not when it was curled up on his lap, face buried in his neck as you fell asleep. Not when you smiled at him like that and kissed him like that and held onto him like... like... like you weren't made for anyone else but him.
It has been over a year, but you still failed to leave his mind.
It has been over a year and he still can't unlove you.
"I don't have anything left to give."
How much had your mate taken from you, for you to think that you had to give him something to stay?
How much had everyone taken before you became complacent enough to still give?
Even when you had nothing, you still tried to give him something to stay.
You must think the worst of him, right now. You offered yourself to him, ready to defy fate and nature, for him, and he still chose to leave you.
 Thor turned to look at Bucky. His arms were crossed over his chest as he faced Tony, nodding every so often as the man went on about mission strategy. To his right sat Wanda, his wife.
Thor could understand, if he tried to, why someone would not be with their soulmate. He could understand, if he listened, why he chose her. He could come to see reason, he didn't choose you either when the time came, but...
This was you.
Thor may not have chosen to stay, but he still couldn't move on. Not when every fibre of his being still knew what Saturday morning felt like with you.
Blue locks on blue, a colour that just won't seem to choose you.
"Thor..." Bucky raises an eyebrow at him, in question. "You good, buddy?"
He frowns at that. Because no, I'm not good and how could you still be okay? and how did you manage to forget the sound of her footsteps?
Thor shakes his head, eyebrows furrowing as he studies him. For the first time since they had met, he studies the man with another woman on his arm –  in his heart.
"You must be so hard to please." He finally says, leaning back against his chair as he scans Bucky one last time.
Thor didn't mean to find you; he was looking for Jane when your car hit him. He didn't mean to keep coming back, he just needed to make sure you were alright. He didn't want to love someone else, but he willingly fell for your fool's gold the second he saw you laugh.
You made him come back for more, until he decided he just wanted to have it all. You made him want things he didn't know he wanted and taught him things that he would have gone his entire existence without knowing. You taught him what love, selfless and unconditional, looked like – felt like... And he couldn't even think about wanting it from someone else.
How could your soulmate want it from someone else?
Bucky frowns at first, confused, then his face visibly hardens. "We're bonded, not matched—"
"Doesn't matter—" Thor stands, hand tightening around stormbreaker. "—I don't care. We're both wrong... But I learn from my failures."
  ---
 You were over it. Really.
A year later and you could walk into your apartment, look at everything and not cry yourself to sleep.
You could separate your own colours, and do your own dishes, and slice up your own peppers. You could roll over and not have to bump into another being in your bed, you could get out of bed and not be late for work.
You couldn't sleep in the dark anymore, but that's not something a bedside lamp can't fix.
The window was jammed again, and the caretaker had reverted to being difficult. Your neighbour woke up one morning and realised Nickelback was his spirit music – whatever that means – so he made sure you heard it too. The couch was still too big for just you and there was that empty space next to the milk, that you can't seem to fill...
But you don't cry whenever it rains and Bucky has stopped trying to reach you, so all in all... Progress.
Good.
Great.
"Jesus Christ—" You nearly jumped into your ceiling, pressing a hand on your chest and shutting your eyes.
Your groceries are scattered on the floor, and your heart is racing. You take a moment to catch your breath, before opening your eyes back up.
He's waiting for you. He has been waiting all day, sitting on the coffee table and staring down at the passage that lead to your door. You're home and he remembers how it felt.
He's waiting for you to calm down, to take a breath. He remembers how you never liked unannounced guests, but he couldn't risk you driving away the second you saw him in the parking lot.
You're looking at him now, finally looking at him after all this time. And he hates how your eyes narrow at him.
He can hear your heartbeat, and he's worried you might pass out if it doesn't slow down. He can feel your anger, from where he's sitting, and he can see it in your eyes –  in your stance, in the way you're not wearing that pendant he had made for you.
He left you and that warrants your anger.
He didn't stay when you needed him to, and that justifies your fury.
But his key still fits in the lock, and his fingerprint still deactivates the security alarm. So, surely you don't hate him that much, right?
He wants to say something, tries to say something, but he draws blank. What else does a man say to the woman he let go?
Sorry I didn't stay?
Sorry I didn't fight harder?
Sorry I was too weak to choose you?
"What do you want?"
You speak first though. Your tone harsh to his ears, but it's enough for him to remember why he should have listened to you.
"You."
He's serious. As serious as he was on the day he left, when he told you he couldn't stay – knowing what you were.
So, you don't believe him.
Why should you?
You put your heart on your sleeves, and let him in. Then, as soon as the going got tough, as soon as things got uncomfortable, he leaves.
You don't believe him. Not when you've spent the past year wondering which part of you keeps giving them a reason to leave.
You do not believe him. Because you're done being that idiot. Because you're not that desperate. Because you deserve better.
"I don't believe you." You tell him, glaring at him, at clear sky blues.
He doesn't argue, like you expect him to. He doesn't force it down your throat, like you expect him to. He doesn't demand, or yell, or break anything.
He just nods, slow and understanding.
You don't believe him, and you don't forgive him. And that's okay with him?
He can read the confusion so clearly on your face, it's almost as if he never left. Except he did, and now he has to learn.
"What do you need me to do?" He asks, leaning his elbows against his knees as he looks up at you. "What do you need me to do, to earn your forgiveness?"
What?
You blink at him. Because no. Because not today. Because you were just learning to live without him, and he pulls this stunt?
"I want you." He states, blue eyes unwavering as they stare back at you. "I want you. I want us. I have spent this past year trying to forget, trying to live—to exist— without you... I failed. I failed when I didn't stay, and I failed when I chose to listen to anyone but you.
"I see you everywhere. I feel you everywhere. In my thoughts, in my dreams, in my heart. And every time I think I can get through a task without thinking about you, I hear your voice. I hear your ridiculous laugh and I spend the rest of the day trying to find it, trying to find you—"
"That's not fair—"
"—it's not fair," he agrees, almost instantly, eyes glistening to match yours. "It's not fair. Because fate made you for someone else. But it feels like you were put in this world for me to find. It's not fair because I wasn't made for someone else... but I can't even function without you.
"It's not fair, for me to be here, and ask you to want me back. So I won't. I won't ask you to have me or to believe anything I say. You gave me your trust once and I broke it, and I know that. I failed you, and I'm willing to spend the rest of my life apologising for that— to make up for that... Tell me what you need me to do, is all I ask."
If you were mad before, then you were angry now. Furious, even.
Words. Words. Words.
That's all the whole lot of them have ever been good at. Promising things they can't give, telling you things they shouldn't, preaching and never practising.
Steve had words for you, promises of keeping Bucky away from dangerous missions. Suddenly, you're allowed on the compound because he got too injured to be treated at the Tower.
Wanda had words for you too, telling you all about how she would make sure he never tried to contact you again unless it's an emergency. You've seen him ten times in one week, and none of those were emergencies.
Bucky had the most words for you, though. Preaching about the happiness you deserve and the loneliness you don't, yapping about finding someone but ruining it the second you do. He tells you to move on, to be happy with someone else, but you can barely sleep at night with all his hovering. He smothers and lurks, talking about fixing things.
You tell him to go on less missions, he listens and nods but never agrees. Why would he listen when you’re not his wife?
He talks about forgiveness and promising to be a better mate and friend to you. You listen and nod, but you don’t forgive. Why should you when he’s not your husband?
And now, Thor. The last person you expected to see back in your life, is giving you words. Telling you things. Baseless words and empty promises.
Have you ever seen anything so hollow?
Tears blur your vision, and you don't need to look at your hands to know they're shaking. You're pissed, and hurt and tired of all this bullshit, and you've had just about enough.
"Haven't you people taken enough from me?" Your voice isn't as stable as you had wanted it to be, but it's still yours. "You lot show up, whenever you like, just to take. You don't care about what you leave behind or the shit I have to deal with, all you want to do is take. And take. And take. Even when there's nothing, you still take – what more do you want?"
Your words sit heavy on his chest, and his heart aches for you. He doesn't want to take, but he also didn't stay when you were the only offer on the table.
You struggle to speak past the lump in your throat. "I was ready, to choose you. I told you that I wanted you and you left—" you quickly wipe the tears just as they slide down your cheeks, "—you left, Thor. You can't do this, you can't just walk in here and talk that bullshit like I didn't—like I didn't crash and burn because of you."
"Do you want me to leave?" He hopes you say no. He hopes you ask him to stay and hold you, because he won't be able to walk passed you and leave.
He's hoping you don't break down in front of him, because then he can't leave. And he can't stay for the wrong reasons, he can't stay without your clear-headed say so.
The sound that comes out of you when he asks that, has his stomach cramping for even suggesting that. Because you're staring at him in utter disbelief for saying that, for putting it in the air, for making you even think about it.
"How dare you—"
"Y/N—"
"I never wanted you to leave—" he's getting up from the table and crossing the room to you, before you even finish, "—you did that all on your own."
He doesn't touch you, though. He lost that right a year ago, and he understands. He has a great deal to learn and a lot to amend... so, he'll only stare until you can stomach his touch.
He'll only stare, until he can learn from his mistakes.
He'll only stare, until he's earned the privilege to hold you...
Until he's earned your love, once again.
You deserve better, you know that now, and so does he.
So, he'll be better.
Part 28: Lego Castle
Tumblr media
You had regained consciousness during the flight but refused to speak to the people who claimed to be your family.  With the restraints still in place there was nothing you could do; you had tried to pull away from them when a pair of hands tried to touch you-Wanda’s. But you flinched, the redhead instantly retreating. Clint talking to her not to continue any of her plans, that she can do it once you’re all back home. Not now, with your state both mental and physical, no one knew what you were capable of doing. You only said one thing, which earned a glance from the team after finally hearing your voice-not rigged nor hoarse as a while back, your little squeak resurfacing, but still laced with your strong accent, one mimicking Korvac’s. “Where’s Sequioa?”
Tumblr media
“Muma!I’m here!We’re flying, mama?Mama,okay?Mama, new friends?” His grasp loosened from Scott’s shirt, desperately wanting to be close to you as possible. His little hands trying to find yours as you lay flat on the gurney-grunting as he tipped his toes towards you. “Want mama.”
“My love.” You cooed, your eyes swelling once again as you observed his face. Your head throbbing in pain as glimpses of your labor with the child came back-wincing in pain, Tony and Steve was quick to react to assess your condition. “Are you alright?” Steve cautiously asked, but you didn’t answer and even placed a stoic reaction as you stared at the people staring back at you. It weirded you out, it confused you to your core as to why you were so calm around them,That you’re not even in panic when Sequioa leaped towards Scott’s embrace-even as his mother. Deep in your heart you knew, they wouldn’t do anything that would hurt you nor your child-and that, somehow, made you at ease.
“We’re not evil, Eve.” Wanda shot back, her eyes knowing as your emerald ones widen. She can read your mind? “You can too.”
Tumblr media
“I’m not a witch. Not like you.” You bluntly said, offended towards her comment as you mask your disgust and confusion. “I am not Eve. I am Carina, Queen of Chandillar. Wife of The Great King Mic-Michael?!Where is he?!” You cried, eyes searching for the man you know you love and trust. “I demand you to free me from these entrapments! Show me my husband!” Shrieking, Tony and Steve couldn’t move an inch. It’s not your first time to throw a fit like this, but this is different. You’re like you’re a child who wanted something and is ruled by their Id; and they didn’t know how to handle you, mostly now where you don’t even know the truth .
 Your eyes fluttered open once again, rays of sunshine blinding you as you try to shield your eyes but was stopped by the restraints still strapped onto you- but there were less, yet new lines of tubing’s that was evidently filled with a few sorts of liquid was coursing its way through your veins, a beeping machine beside you which was the only noise that anyone can hear in your room. You were in a white gown and in a white room, the only light visible was from the natural sunlight that came from your window, above the ceiling.
“Good Morning, Eve.” Your train of thought was once interrupted when a young Asian woman entered the room, her attire was similar to yours-but had a different texture and cut. “How are you feeling?” You remained silent, still studying her quiet features-your mind, once again throbbing as you had a few glimpses of the past. “You alright? Your heart rate’s increasing.” She mumbled, quickly assessing your IV- “Is there pain?” You slightly nodded, pointing onto your temporal side of the head, earning a genuine smile from the Doctor. “I’m Doctor Cho. Do you remember me?” Frowning, you gestured a ‘no’ “Should I?” She was quick to compose herself- after hearing your soft voice for years of trying to accept that you’re gone, she smiled. “You’ll get there in time. Is there anything else you’re feeling?”
“Baby?Baby okay?” You asked, your hand quickly embracing your growing womb. Doctor Cho instantly frowned, her gaze not meeting yours anymore as you felt a big change in the atmosphere. “Are you mad?”
“Oh, don’t take it the wrong way.” The doctor reiterated, not wanting you to ask anymore onto why she suddenly felt angry. “Yes, your daughter is okay. You’re currently 34 weeks pregnant, you’re near your due date, so we have to be extra careful.” You slightly nodded, taking your eyes off the doctor, as your mind wandered again. “Do you…remember anything?” She mumbled, earning your attention.
 “Everyone keeps asking me that.” Your lips quivered “And I keep on saying, No. I don’t. I don’t know any of you. I don’t know why you took me away from my home,I don’t even know where my husband is-not even my child. I don’t remember any Avengers, any Avenging or whatever in this world you call that.” You were now full on crying, but unlike before-you’re calm. You wanted them to hear you, how hard it is to be asked from time to time a question you never knew you needed to hear. “ So that’s it. I don’t know you, or Natasha, nor Bucky or that spider guy- I don’t know Tony, nor that blonde guy-that keeps on pushing himself to me, as if-as if I know him?!.” You spat, your eyes widening as it landed onto an ocean of blue ones “I don’t know any of you.So please, Just bring me back home.”
Tumblr media
 “Where is Lady Eve?” A loud grunt echoed throughout the vicinity, quickly waking up Steve and Clint who trashed themselves in the lounge area, Bucky and Sam in tow of Natasha who just entered the room. “What’s going on?Is everything alright Thor?”
“I want to see her.” Dropping Stormbreaker, the door creaked open-revealing a Tony with sunken dark under eyes- a coffee in hand. “Not good of a plan.She still hates us.” The billionaire started with as he sauntered his way to the kitchen, reheating his drink. “Anyone want some?”
“I’ll have.” Steve mumbled, hands smothering his face as he tried wiping the restlessness from it. “He’s right.Eve won’t accept any visitors.” Holding out his hand as he grabbed the warm mug from Tony’s reach, Steve drank the liquid that mortals like, some even love it to the extent of having at least a cup every day before their day-Saying that it makes you awake, energized even. Steve’s mind once again wandered to you. You’ve always had a liking with caffeine. But loathed black coffee, dark ones-No sugar nor Splenda. Just like Tony and Natasha liked it. Steve’s brows furrowed, trying to remember the drink you always have in your hand- one you’ll always ask Maria to pick you some-even forcing Nick to try it, the guy instantly loving it. It had something to do with Caramel…But he can’t just lay a finger on it.
“What’s wrong, pointbreak?” Tony interrupted Steve’s thoughts, bringing him back to the present. Sam snickered, remembering the funny nicknames all of the team already forgot after all these events. “Hold on.” Sam was quick to scan the room “Where’s TicTac?”
“Right here Y’fool.” Scott earned everyone’s gaze, after finally emerging from the upstairs lounge, A toddler on his hip. It’s been a week since you were back, nothing much has changed and you were still pissed at everyone trying to let you ‘remember’ things. It was when Tony decided to hire professional therapists and psychiatrist to try and let you do things on your own and help you piece the puzzle altogether. He paid shit ton of money to make sure no one leaks any information, after all-the world knows you’re dead. It was also that time that you got so angry at them, after all-again, you’re at least thirty-five weeks pregnant- and you were getting more irritated with all of them bugging you. One good thing that happened is that you’re not much pissed with them calling you Eve, sometimes though-you’d lash out at them and tell them they’re being annoying again and then they’ll stop. Steve though, He calls you Queen.
“Another bomb day?” Bruce mumbled, trying to hide his laugh as he saw the laughing Sequoia in his friend’s grasp as he held a full diaper. Originally, Sequoia was following Wanda and Nat, but the girls both assigned Scott to do it-well the latter threatening him to, showing her new knife from Tokyo, specifically made for her grip and liking-and that if he doesn’t take the task, she’d be sure to let Scott and her knife get to know each other well. Natasha didn’t hate the child, how can she? He’s your son, but it’s not only him-it’s any kid, it reminds her of her past-her future, one that she dreams of-yet can never attain. Also….How can she take care of a child she doesn’t even know how it was conceived?Natasha winced at the thought, remembering the exact words of Dr. Cho “We may not have any verbal confirmation onto what really happened …But, with the intensive procedures and measurements we’ve done to confirm what we’re all dreading..It shows us that there was a severe trauma or damage, to her vaginal wall, cervical area-“ which was abruptly stopped by Bucky and Tony’s hands smashing through a wall and their desks.
“Toni?Toni..Tonee?” Sequioa lisped, trying to get away from Scott’s grasp and wanting to be held by the billionaire. Tony was quick to catch the little guy, after all-He was yours, which makes every one of them promise to take care of Sequoia as long as you need to rest. “Hi little buddy.”
“Tonee!” Sequioa blew a bubble, and then laughed at himself-making everyone smile. “S’funny Tonee.” A yawn escaped the todddler’s lips, making another bubble-making him burst in laughter once again. “You’re so silly ‘Quioa!” Wanda laughed, patting the child’s head as it rested onto Tony’s shoulder,his eyes starting to droop. “Oof. I think you’re assigned to sleepy time,Tones.” Clint teased, earning a smirk from Tony who is already on his way towards the nursery they set up for the toddler. “At least not diaper duty.” Scott mumbled, earning a laugh from Natasha.
“Who let you in here?” All their eyes darted towards the room in the far-left corner, Your room. All eyes also-widened, quickly seeing Thor already inside. “I told Dr.Cho to not let anyone inside.” As every one of them step inside your suite, they all stopped in their tracks. You’re unbelievably calm.Not mad, nor angry-You’re not even throwing a fit! Thor, about to answer-was interrupted by a son, and then a squeal. “Iana!It’s true!You’re back!It’s you…” Peter gasped, fighting off Strange’s hands as he leaped towards his long lost friend. “You’re here….I was so worried. I was so sad!I even stopped building our lego castle!Because….Because, I really thought you were gone and Mr.Stark told me to try and move on, and I was mad at him! Well…We all somehow got into a fight…But that doesn’t matter anymore! Because you’re now here and you’re back and we’ve all missed you and you’re no impostor anymore!” The team tried their best to stop Peter, but for a child-he talked so fast. After a week of your appearance, they finally told everyone in SHIELD and the rest of the Avengers-after you showed a stable and good condition. And now, they told Peter. The last one to know.As you know…He’s a child. Clingy. Impulsive. Just like now.
“Impostor?” You muttered, your voice softening as you look at everyone’s wide eyes “Lego Castle?”
“Eve…We’re so sorry.Just don’t think of what he’s saying. This is-“ Bruce was quick to answer, assessing you-but was shocked as he saw that your heart rate is not even increasing with whatever Peter is saying.
“Peter?You’re Peter.Right?”
Tumblr media
It’s been five years. Five years since that horrible day in the bloody clearing into the forests of Wakanda. Five years since half of the universe just poofed. Five years since Thor lost the love of his life.
The first year, Thor traveled through the galaxy, searching for something, anything that could reverse the snap. He refused to accept that you were gone, than you were gone because of him.
The second year, Thor went on a rampage, killing Thanos’ minions one by one. At night, he’d lie in the dark, the blood he hadn’t bothered to wash off still on his hands, and he thought of you.
The third year, Thor drowned himself in alcohol, drinking until he forgot the pain. But even in the darkest moments of the blackouts, he didn’t forget you.
The forth year, Thor returned to New Asgard, not to be king, but to hide what he had become from the rest of the world. He could barely look at the people who were supposed to be his people. They were here because of his failure. The whole world was.
The fifth year, the God of Thunder had become unrecognizable. His exterior had changed, but it was what was in his heart that concerned his friends. Thor had become a ghost, a shell of the person he was before. He had lost the most important thing in the world to him. You.
And so when Bruce came to him with the almost laughable idea of time traveling, the only reason Thor agreed was because of you. Because he’d give anything, just to see your smile again.
For Thor, the pain of the last five years was more than he had experienced during his entire immortal existence. So much that he had even considered just ending it. Ending him. Because who was he without you? The only thing that had held him back was the sound of your gentle voice, telling him that you will come back for him.
Five years. Five years without you.
For you, the five years felt more like five minutes and as you and the others awoke in that same clearing in Wakanda, you had no idea of the pain that Thor had gone through.
All of you fought as you never had before. Fighting as a team, as the family you were.
Every single Avenger on that battlefield fought for someone they loved. Tony fought for Pepper and Morgan and Peter. The family that he had never dreamed he would have. Steve fought for Bucky and Sam and for his past that could one day be his future. And Thor... Thor fought for you.
All of a sudden, the same feeling of complete and utter silence that had rippled through the world five years ago was felt again. Thor looked around and paused when ash scattered to reveal a familiar figure.
As Stormbreaker dropped from his shaking hands, Thor managed to breath out a single word. Your name. And even though you were too far away to hear him, you still turned, as if there was a string attaching the two of you together.
And when you lifted your eyes to meet his, the world stopped. Everything around you, the sound of the soldiers cheering in victory, the joyous cries of families and friends reuiniting, just stopped.
There was only you and him and nothing else in the world.
Pure joy filled your hearts and you took a step forwards, wanting to be closer to him.
However, that step was like a bucket of ice water for Thor. Suddenly, every horrible and shameful thing he did during the last 5 years came flooding back to him. Every soldier he killed in your name, every girl he had fucked while pretending it was you, every shattered beer bottle on the floor of his little hut in New Asgard, the broken glass mirroring his own heart.
Thor clutched at his protruding stomach, mistaking the look in your widened eyes for one of disgust. His cheeks burned with shame and he averted his eyes, unable to watch if you turned away. So he turned away first, walking, almost running away, stumbling on the pieces of rubble and glass littered on the ground.
Walking away from the love of his life. Because he couldn’t bear for you to see what he has become.
The joy in your heart turned into confusion as you watched him run away. Run away from you.
“Thor!” You called out, tripping over your exhausted feet as you tried to run after him. “Thor!”
He paused, and your words died in your throat as he turned around. Tears were cascading down his cheeks, dripping into his braided beard and he tried to roughly wipe them away. But he still wouldn’t look at you.
“Thor, what-”
Before you could ask, Thor gripped Stormbreaker tightly to his chest, and you watched as he mouthed “I’m sorry.”
And than he was gone, leaving you alone in a field of shattered glass.
For the ensuing weeks, Thor avoided you like plague, hidden away in his little hut at the edge of the world. When he had to be in the same room with you, he stayed in the furtherest corner, only talking to Bruce and Rocket.
It hurt. It hurt so bad. To have the one person who you love the most refuse to even acknowledge your existence. To refuse to even look at you. And everytime he moved away, everytime he flinched as you tried to address him, your heart broke a little more.
Unbeknownst to you, every time you looked away, the only thing Thor looked at was you. The pain and sadness he saw in your eyes, in the way you were hunched over on the tables tore down what your return had fixed in his broken heart. It killed him, that he couldn’t touch you, couldn’t kiss you, couldn’t love you like he wanted so badly to. But he couldn’t bring himself to talk to you, in fear of your rejection, so he watched you from the shadows. Still, it didn’t hurt any less.
Your meeting had finished late, and you had missed the last bus back home. Rejecting Happy’s offer to drive you back, you decided to walk, wanting to enjoy a brief moment of peace and quiet that you haven’t had in months. Halfway back, you felt something wet drip onto your messy, unbrushed hair. You looked up as a flash of electricity lit up the sky, swearing under your breath as you made for the ramshackle little bus stop at the end of the street,
Just as you slid in, the heavens opened and the rain came pouring down. Sitting down on the bench who looked as if it could barely could itself up, you looked up through the glass roof at the sky. There was something beautiful about the way lightning lits up the clouds. There was something beautiful in the way the raindrops glistened as they fell. Their beauty reminded you of a certain God.
You were in the middle of the city, surrounded by people, but yet you had never felt so alone. The man who was like your father and your best friend was gone, and the one person who you had left... you had lost him too. Drops of water that wasn’t rain dripped down your cheeks as you finally let everything go.
The rain was coming down even harder than before and you shivered as thunder boomed, hugging yourself to try to stay warm. Your teeth started clattering and your fingertips started shaking as you felt yourself slowly turn to ice. It was so so cold.
All of a sudden, you felt warmth enveloping you. You looked up and you were greeted with the same blue eyes you had fallen in love with on another rainy April day. Except this time, they were filled with five years worth of unshed tears.
Thor wrapped his still-warm jacket around you and wordlessly, reached up to brush away a stray tear on your cheek.
“You shouldn’t be out here Y/N.” He said, trying to ignore how good it felt to be this close to you, to touch you. “It’s not safe, and-”
“Why?”
Thor paused. “Why what?”
“Why won’t you let me in anymore?”
Thor shut his eyes, not wanting you too see the flood of emotion going through him.
“Y/N-”
“That day-” Your voice trembled, but you had to get the words out. You had to know. “That day in the clearing, five years ago, when I- when I went away, you told me you love me. Why dont you love me anymore?”
“I still love you.” Thor said, voice echoing through the small box. “Gods- I love you so much, you have no idea-”
“Than why?” You said, almost shouting as you stood up. “Why do you leave the room everytime I come in? Why do you flinch everytime I try to talk to you? Why won’t you even look at me?”
“Because I’m afraid.” Yelled Thor.
“Of what?” You whispered.
“Of you seeing what I have become.” Said Thor. “Of you turning away from me.”
“Thor... Why would I turn away?” You asked.
“Why wouldn’t you turn away?” Thor laughed bitterly. “Have you seen what I’ve become? I’m not worthy for the name Odinson, and I’m definitely not worthy for you.”
To his surprise, instead of flinching away, you move forward. Placing one hand on his cheek and the other on his stomach, you tilted his face, forcing him to look at you.
“Why aren’t you worthy for me?” You demanded. “Because of you’re a little bigger than the Thor I remember? Because you smell of beer and day old pizza instead of sweat and metal?
Thor averted his eyes as shame filled him again. He didn’t want to see the disgust that was surely in your eyes.
“Because I don’t care.”
Thor’s head snapped up and he looked at you with something like hope beginning to shine in his eyes.
“I don’t care whether you’re fat or thin. Whether you’re strong or weak. Because you’re my Thor, for rich or for poor, in sickness and in health, you will always be my shoulder to cry on. My rock in the storm. My best friend. My Thor.” You say, fire in your eyes as you looked at the man whose heart you held in your scarred hands.
Thor didn’t know what to say, so he kissed you.
And it was everything you had dreamed it would be.
And later, when you were both snuggled together on your coach, in front of a roaring fire, you asked.
“Hey Thor?”
“Yes my love?” He asked, gazing down on you with adoration written across his face.
“I love you too.”
Okay, that didn’t really end up the way i wanted it to. Not the best since it was really rushed. Hope you guys still liked.💜
I felt a sudden shift from Peter's arm which I was leaning on.
"Babe, do me a favor and stop it. I'm trying to rest." I complained, still with my eyes closed.
"(Y/n), look." He said. I could detect the fear in his tone. I looked at him and noticed he was staring outside the bus window. I followed his gaze and saw some giant spaceship?
"I gotta get over there." He grabbed his bag from under the seat and shuffled with it.
"Peter, are you sure?" I asked him with my fingers laced in his.
"(Y/n), this calls for Spiderman." He said while gesturing to the giant flying doughnut.
"No, this is an Avengers thing. This is over your paygrade." I argued.
"Just stay here, be careful. Protect May for me." He replied and pressed a quick kiss to my cheek.
I knew there wasn't any use in trying to convince him otherwise. I got up and tapped on Ned who sat behind us.
"Ned, cause a distraction." I told him. It didn't take long for him to look up from his phone to see the arising problem.
"Holy shit, we're all gonna die!" He said while rushing to the back of the bus.
"Peter, should I go? This looks like an all hands on deck situation." I suggested while examining the scene. I could tell my dad was flying around there from his blasters.
"(Y/n)." He warned, now locking eyes with me.
He didn't have time to tell me no because I grabbed a webshooter and opened the emergency window.
"See ya there sweetie." I smiled as I tapped on the edge of my glasses to make my mask surround my face.
I used my powers to manipulate the air around me. Doing so basically allowed me to fly.
I began to make my way to the problem. I heard Peter thwipping behind me.
By the time we arrived at the park I saw my dad fighting with some Mortal Kombat reject character.
"Peter, help the old man." I said. Although he was quite a distance away, I knew he heard me because of our comms.
"On it!" He said and went his way.
I continued on, surveying the scene for any other enemies. I did see a man in old timey clothes waving his hands around, making orange images fly around him. He looked like one of the good guys. So I began to help target the squidward looking creature. I bent the metal shrapnel around us to throw at him. This apparently only made him angier. He reversed my action and threw the metal back at me.
The strange man in strange clothes managed to stop the shrapnel from getting to me by turning them into butterflies. Weird.
"I don't have time for this." The creature snarked and telepathically pushed us against the side of a nearby building. Bricks from the wall caged us in. The pressure was like falling off the rope in PE class. It hurt.
While I was still being compressed, the two were having some kind of banter about some necklace the, for lack of better words, wizard had on. The Wizard managed to get off the wall and was now back on the ground. The alien made the wizard pass out and went on his way.
When he was a distance away I began to fall from my position.
"Okay, now I'm pissed." I muttered and flew towards them.
I didn't know why this Wizard was so important, but if the dickwad squidward wanted him, it probably wasn't for good reasons.
"(Y/n), (M/n) Stark, what in hell do you think you're doing?"
I mentally cursed at the sound of my father's voice coming from my comm.
"Helping save New York apparently." I quipped.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Peter swinging to the wizard as well.
Out of nowhere a blue beam lit up the sky. The Wizard began to he sucked into it. I saw Peter grab onto a lampole and pulled on his webbing. But it wasn't enough.
"Uh, Mr. Stark, I'm being beamed up!" He said.
"Dad!" I cried out to him while following the beam up, but staying out of its path.
"Yes, I see it. FRIDAY, deploy 17A and 24S."
17A? 17A was Peter's IronSpider suit. I didn't know he finished it. 24S on the other hand was a mystery.
I looked up and saw Peter rip his mask off. He looked like he was having trouble breathing. Makes sense, we were high up.
I was still quite a distance off of him, but when he was falling, I was prepared to catch him. FRIDAY beat me to the punch. His suit appeared around him and he was back to kicking.
I smiled in relief, but it was short lived. I saw another flying thing coming straight to me. 24S was probably a suit for me. Once the package hit my foot, the nanotech immediately began to form around me.
"Alright, FRIDAY, send them home." He said as he blasted past me.
"Oh come on!" I heard Peter say through the comms.
I felt a parachute deploy from the back of the suit. I was instantly drawn downward. I tried to use my powers, but they weren't working in this suit.
"Dammit Dad." I whined, knowing he could still hear me.
"Love you sweetheart. Be back in a jiffy." He said with uncertainty in his voice.
"Just be careful." I said again.
"Al..ways a-..a...m." His voice began to give out. He was too far away for me to contact him..
"FRIDAY, can you get me to Bruce?" I asked.
"Sure thing Miss. Stark." The AI replied.
Once I landed, I saw Bruce and Wong talking.
"Hey, you good, Doc?" I asked.
He was holding a phone and looked apprehensive.
"The Avengers broke up?" He asked.
"Yeah, it was pretty bad." I replied.
Wong took this opportunity to make his exit.
"This is worse." He gestured the scene around us.
I nodded, now knowing what the phone was.
"Call him." I said simply.
I watched as Bruce held the phone to his ear.
This was clearly worse.
Earth just lost its best defender.
And I just lost my boyfriend.
---WAKANDA BATTLE---
While I did appreciate my father's suit for me, I figured it would be more beneficial if I had my powers rather than my suit. I was tasked with helping protect Vision and Shuri.
I liked Shuri. I was certain Peter would like her too, but the introduction would have to wait as Peter is in space.
When everything went down, it went down hard and fast.
One moment Shuri was working on Vision, and the next we're being thrown out of the window. She was knocked unconscious, but the kingsguard were with her, so I felt fine going to help Vision.
I ran off, following to where he fell. It was in a forested area.
By the time I got there, Steve was fighting a monster and telling Vision to run.
I, being the self sacrificing Stark that I am, ran into the fight. Bending his own sphere against the creature.
Steve gave me a look of disappointment, but I just shrugged it off.
We were okay. For now.
The air suddenly became tense.
I heard Bruce through the comms say, "Cap, that's him."
I looked around and saw a giant purple guy towering over everything. I couldn't help but notice gauntlet on his left hand. I realized the green infinity stone that the Wizard had was part of it. I pushed the anxieties of what happened to the side. This was the fight of our lives.
But I froze. I saw as Natasha, Rhodes, Bucky, Sam, even Banner go for him. All efforts failed.
I heard Wanda and Vision behind me. They were saying goodbye.
Thanos was coming straight in our direction.
Steve jumped into the line of fire and grabbed the gauntlet. He screamed as he struggled to hold it back.
I gasped as Thanos' right fist met Steve's face.
He looked right at me.
"The formidable Stark child. I hope people remember your father." He said as he began to pass me.
'I hope people remember your father.' Replayed in my head. I let out a scream as I began to shoot fire out of my hands straight to the side of his face. It was ineffective.
I bended all the metal around me to create a sphere and pushed it to his direction. He turned, simply closed his fist and the sphere became a crumpled hunk of metal. He turned to Vision again.
Relief instantly set in when I saw the bright yellow flash. I was saddened by Vision's death, but relieved that Thanos' plan had been cut short.
I crawled my way to Wanda. She was crying, I was crying. We were both a mess, but for different reasons.
Thanos said something about understanding Wanda's pain and suddenly the flash was being reversed.
"No!" Wanda and I said in unison as the stone on Vision's head reappeared. Thanos pushed us away before we could do anything.
I hear a shattering and looked up to see Vision colorless on the ground.
Thanos had all six infinity stones. He looked elated.
Then Thor decided to join the party.
With stormbreaker in his hands he lined up his shot. There was hope after all.
The axe landed dead centre in his chest. Thor pressed it further.
I know Thanos said something, but the light ringing in my ears enabled me to hear it properly.
But he snapped.
Nothing happened at first.
Then it all came crashing down.
"Steve?" Bucky called out.
Then he was gone. Turned into dust before our eyes.
Everything happened so fast. Wakandan soldiers began disintegrating, our friends. Wanda, who was leaning over Vision, accepted her fate. She fell into it.
I looked down at my hands, expecting me to go to, but nothing. I was still here.
"Oh God." I faintly heard Steve from a few feet away.
I stayed on the ground. Not knowing what to do or where to go.
----22 days later----
I stayed at the Compound for a while. Dad, Peter, or Stephen (as I learned was the Wizard's name) hadn't returned yet. Pepper was on a last minute trip in Hong Kong when the actual snap happen, but they cancelled all flights; so I couldn't stay with her until she got back. When she did, we went home and just went through Dad's stuff. We refused to believe he was gone.
Natasha, Steve, and Rhodes set up shop at the compound. They wanted to fix this, whatever it took.
One day Pepper got up at 3:00 a.m and pulled me awake too.
"(Y/n), come on. Tony's back." She said through sniffles.
I shot up. If dad's back, that means Peter's back too!
Happy drove us to the compound with excited energy.
When we arrived there was still no sign of dad, so I asked Happy if he could drive me to the nearest Burger King. We both knew that Dad would be craving a cheeseburger, so Happy happily obliged.  I also figured it wouldn't hurt to get Peter some fries. He's never turned down fries in the time I've known him.
When we got back, there was a huge spaceship on the lawn.
Tears threatened to spill out of my eyes right then and there. I didn’t even wait for Happy to open the door for me, I rushed it open with the food in my hand and ran inside.
"Dad! Peter!" I called out to them.
I walked into the conference room to see Steve, Rhodey, and Natasha looking at me with sadness.
"(Y/n)..." Steve trailed off.
"What? They're okay aren't they? I brought them food, if they want it, but I know for a fact Peter will eat these fries. Oh, damn I didn't' get anything for Stephen. Anyway, are they sleeping or something?" I asked, now noticing they weren't in the room.
"Tony's resting in the…" Natasha began to say and move at an angle so I could see the room ahead of us.
I gasped and dropped the food. I ran past the three and fell to my knees at the base of his bed.
He looked terrible. His cheekbones were prominent, so was every other bone in his body. Knowing dad he would've given any food to Peter. Speaking of, it was weird to not see him around. He probably went to check on May. God, she'd be so happy to see him!
Even though I was happy at the thought of Peter and May's reunion, it didn't make me feel any better about how dad was.
I felt Pepper rub soothing circles into my back.
Apparently this was enough to help me fall asleep because the next thing I knew I was wrapped in a blanket in my room at the compound.
"Good you're awake. I was starting to think passing out was a Stark curse."
I surveyed the room to see who's voice that sentence belonged to.
"Dad." I choked out. I reached my hand up to my eyes to wipe the tears of joy that began to fall.
"Hey, we have to talk." His voice began to waver.
I sat up and gave him my attention.
"There's no easy way to say this, so I'm just going to say it. The kid- Parker- Peter. H-He didn't make it." He said quickly and avoided my gaze.
That there. That was when my world shattered around me. I got my dad, but at the cost of my boyfriend. But I can't deny that part of me had thought about this. The prospect of Peter dying in battle. It hurt like hell, but it didn't seem to phase me. My dad caught on to that.
"(Y/n), talk to me. Say something." He looked up to see my stoic expression.
I took a deep breath. "How?"
"Don't do that. Don't play tough here. It's okay to feel…"
"How did he die, dad?" I asked again, looking up to see his tear stained face.
"The snap." He replied simply.
I looked to my nightstand. There was a photo of us together at a dinner with Dad and Pepper.
"This is the worst breakup ever." I said without emotion.
I could tell my dad didn't know how to react to that. He decided to wheel over to my bed and gesture for me to hug him. That's all I needed to see to bury my face into his shoulder and sob.
---1 year later---
"Keener, I swear to God, you're impossible." I rubbed my temples while he pranced around my room.
Well, my in the process of being built room.
After dad got better, he decided to build up his family. The wedding him and Pepper had was nice and small. The antithesis of anything Stark related. He then decided that expanding the family would be a good thing. Which is where Morgan came into the picture. Or at least, the embryo of Morgan. Before she was born though, dad insisted that his favourite girls design the new Stark home. Seeing as Pepper was eight months pregnant, she couldn't exactly drive out here and be around all this paint; so it was decided that I would get the final say.
I decided to bring Harley along because he basically became my best friend this past year. He lost his mom in the snap and eventually found his way out to New York with his uncle.
And oh boy did Harley get into everything.
"Why is there such a large open space here?" He asked as we entered what would be the dining room.
"Clearly because it's not furnished, idiot." I whispered.
I continued walking around the place and saw the makings of a home. The family room was the only room fully furnished at the moment and it looked beautiful.
A worker came up to me shortly after.
"Miss. Stark, we hope everything is to your liking?" He asked nervously.
"Yes, my parents will love it too. You're all going excellent work. Keep it up and my dad will undoubtedly tip very well." I smiled at the group of workers who had now huddled around to hear what I had to say.
"I still think it's a little roomy!" Harley called from the couch he was sitting on.
"Harley, shut up!" I yelled at the boy.
This caused the workers to laugh.
----PRESENT----
5 Years. It's been 5 years since the world's been normal. Two years since I graduated High School.
Five years since I last saw Peter.
It was that emotion that made me want to take on Scott's Time Heist. Then again, we were happy. Morgan happened in these five years and she made all of us extremely happy. Dad retired his gold titanium alloy suit, and I was on my way to co-running Stark Industries.
But then I think about the trillions that died, and it feels irresponsible to sit back and live happily.
Eventually dad and I did solve the missing variable in the time travel equation. But whether or not we should act on it was the tough part.
The next day we were driving ridiculously fast to the compound.
The days after that came the planning.
After that the heist was underway.
Harley and I stayed behind to watch the shop.
"Going subatomic in 5…"
I adjusted a few levers.
"4...3…2… brace yourselves and be careful." I warned as the countdown came to an end.
"See you in a minute." Natasha with joy evident on her face.
"1." I said and pulled the final lever.
Then they were gone.
"So…" Harley trailed off, "how long will they be gone?"
"About a minute for us. Natasha wasn't too far off, actually." I smiled, looking at the data we were collecting.
"Okay, so I have a minute to do this." Harley breathed out.
"Huh?" I said, now looking at him.
"Listen, I don't know how else to say this, but I like you. Not in the jokey, friend kind of way. More of a hey, I wanna take you out to a restaurant and treat you like a lady kind of like you." He scratched the back of his head.
"Har…" I breathed out, ready to explain the millions of reasons why anything between us couldn't happen.
He quickly rushed a finger up to my lips.
"Shhh, I just had to say it. Whether you reciprocate or not will take time, I get it; but I will wait." He said, now pressing his forehead against mine.
I heard frantic beeps from the monitors. They were all synced to come back. Mostly. I noticed Natasha's sync wasn't shown.
I shrugged it off as a glitch and brought them back.
Once they all reappeared I heard Bruce say, "Did we get them all?"
Followed by Rhodey asking if it really worked.
I wasn't the only one to realize Natasha was gone.
"Clint, where's Nat?" Bruce asked first.
Clint looked broken. Like he had just witnessed the painful death of a loved one. He didn't say anything, which is all he needed to say.
Bruce fell to the ground of the time heist rig and slammed the ground.
"No." I whispered out.
We all took off in different ways, but somehow all ended up at the lake.
"Do we know if she had any family?" Dad broke the silence.
"Yeah, us." Steve replied, looking off into nothing.
Thor went on into hysterics. He was denying that she was gone. This angered Clint and he processed to challenge Thor to go and try to save her. I saw tears roll down Steve's cheeks as they fought.
I simply walked away. I couldn't be in that environment anymore. I heard a crash of water and a Hulk-eske grunt. That told me enough of what happened.
I reentered the compound to see Scott, Rhodey, Harley, and Nebula still standing around.
"How are they?" Scott asked.
"Her sacrifice won't be in vain. Thanos is going to suffer." I simply said as I walked past them.
But I couldn't help but notice Nebula slightly reacted to that.
"(Y/n), wait!" I heard Harley call after me.
"No, Harley. I don't wanna talk. Go away." I slammed the door behind me and crashed on my bed.
This plan was supposed to bring everybody back, but we already lost one team member. Who says we wouldn't lose another?
The day after we began to construct our own gauntlet. Rocket, Bruce, Dad and I all collectively worked on it. We all watched in awe as the stones seamlessly worked into the gauntlet.
Then followed a huge argument of who had the burden of wearing it. Thor volunteered himself immediately. His logic being that he was the strongest. I watched as dad told Thor he wasn't in the condition to wield it. So that's when Bruce nominated himself. His reasoning being that he was "made for this."
Dad had me stand behind him and Clint. We were behind dad's shield.
"Hey FRIDAY, do me a favor and activate Iron door protocol, will ya?"
I watched as the compound began to lock itself down. Even the very room was being locked down. This was it.
And so Bruce did it. He placed the gauntlet at his fingertips. We all watched as the nanotech began to fit around him. After a few screams, pleas, and a snap, Bruce collapsed to the ground. Everybody went to inspect him. I noticed though, that Scott went off to look outside. Clint also went in a different direction. He went to the table. I could hear a slight vibrating. Almost like it was coming from a phone.
"Guys, I think it worked." Scott called out.
Still examining Bruce, I noticed his expression change to fear as a shadow crawled up his face. I turned to look at he window above us. It was a massive ship. Something was coming right for us.
Suddenly we were attacked.
"(Y/n)!" I heard my dad yell. I couldn't tell where I was, but I just kept falling.
"Come on kid, get up."
I looked up and shook my head.
"Clint?" I asked, unsure if I was actually seeing him, or if my subconscious was making him up.
"Yep, that's me. We gotta get out of here." He held out his hand. I noticed he held the gauntlet with his other arm.
"Thanks." I said while grabbing his hand and pulling myself up.
I tapped the edges of my glasses and hoped FRIDAY would still be functional.
"FRI, where are we?"
"According to the blueprints, you are located approximately underneath the 4th conference room."
"Get us a path out of here, please."
Suddenly an animalistic sound caused the both of us to turn towards the source. Clint shot a light arrow in the direction.
Chitauri.
"Any day now FRIDAY!" I yelled as we began to run away from the creatures.
"Continue down this corridor. It will lead to a tunnel close to the surface."
"Yeah, very helpful thanks." I heard an out of breath Clint say.
We continued running. Clint now had his sword out and was slicing Chitauri as they got too close. Once we approached a water pipeline, I saw my opportunity.
I began bending the water around us, and shot it forcefully at the herd chasing us. It effectively knocked them back several feet.
"Couldn't do that any earlier?"
"Shut up Clint." I replied as we continued running.
Before we got to the upwards tunnel, Clint turned around and shot a grenade arrow towards the heard. He then sent a grappling hook to the top of the tunnel.
I couldn't help myself, "What? Couldn't do that earlier?" I asked as we both grabbed on the wire.
"Shut up." He said with a small smile.
Once we got to the top Clint exasperatedly said, "Okay, take five."
He rolled on the ground, but still had a hold of the gauntlet.
I rolled over too. In the past five years, cardio hasn't exactly been my main focus.
"Oh hey, I know you." I looked up to see Clint handing the gauntlet to Nebula.
"Father, I have the stones."
"What?" Clint and I said simultaneously.
As Clint was closer, he went to get the gauntlet back. Except Nebula turned a gun on him before he could do anything.
"Move and your friend gets blasted through his heart." She said, clearly directed to me.
Suddenly another Nebula and a green lady showed up. There was some back and forth between the two that ended up with Clint being able to get over to me quickly.
Then Nebula shot Nebula.
"FRI, how about that way out of here?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"Through here." Nebula said and began to walk away with the green lady.
"FRI?" I whispered as soon as they were out of earshot.
"I'd advise following them."
"Still such a big help." Clint mumbled as he picked up the gauntlet.
When we got out it was chaos. I saw Steve with a half broken shield facing off with Thanos. Thanos had thousands of his soldiers lined up a prepared to fight.
I saw my dad laying down, but still moving. Thor was facedown in a pile of rubble. Rhodey, Scott, Rocket and Banner were nowhere to be seen.
Did we just lose again?
"Steve. Can you hear me? On your left."
I could've sworn I heard Sam's voice in the comm.
Suddenly a familiar orange glow appeared on Steve's left side.
Out walked T'challa, Shuri, and Okoye.
It worked. They were coming back!
Hundreds of other portals opened and more of our allies flooded out of them.
Out of the sheer number of people I couldn't make out Peter,  but I was relieved that he was okay.
"Avengers!" I heard Steve yell.
"Assemble." He finished with an overwhelming amount of determination.
Then everybody took off.
This was truly the fight of our lives.
I began flying up and made my way into the fray too.
"Gotta say, when I imagined us fighting a massive army of space aliens, this is not what I had in mind." I heard Harley say.
I chuckled.
"Now's not the time for unsubtle flirting with my daughter, Keener." Dad snapped.
Harley took off in a different direction. I took the moment to observe his suit. Green. Interesting choice.
The fight was brutal, but suddenly it got a whole lot worse.
After a fight with Wanda. Thanos commanded an aerial attack. Some sort of bombs began falling into the battlefield. They were mostly metal so I tried to bend as much of them as I could, but there were too many.
"I got this. I got this. I got this. Okay, I don't got this. Help, somebody help!" I heard a familiar voice call.
"Hey Queens, heads up." I looked up to see Steve throw Mjolnir in the direction of the cry for help.
I watched as Peter shot webbing at the hammer and trailed behind it. He was holding the gauntlet in one of his ironspider arms. Then he was being held in the sky by Pepper. Then he was on the back of a flying horse. This is a lot.
He fell nevertheless and I began to make my way to him. But of course I was cut off by Chitauri trying to you know, kill me.
Abruptly though, they stopped firing at us, and began firing upwards.
"FRIDAY, what are they shooting at?" I heard my dad ask.
"Something just entered the upper atmosphere."
We all looked up to see a bright yellow streak flying through Thanos' ship.
Steve was the first to notice who exactly it was,
"Danvers, we could use an assist down here."
It looked like we could win this afterall.
When I finally made it to Peter's side, he was a mess. He held the gauntlet with both arms and kept looking wildly around. Before he could see me though, Carol got to him first.
"Hey, I'm Peter Parker." He said shakily.
"Hey Peter Parker. You got something for me?" She smirked.
He pulled himself up. "I don't know how you're going to get it past them."
"Don't worry." Wanda said, now landing near him.
"She's got help." Okoye finished.
By this time I noticed a whole legion of women were surrounding Peter. Myself included. They began taking off, but I stayed behind.
I jumped over a rock that separated us. I looked at him. He looked terrible. His nose was bleeding. He looked terrified.
"(Y/n)?" He asked while taking a step closer to me.
Suddenly a violent shake drew our attention away from one another. Good thing it did, because we then noticed a huge rock coming straight for us.
Without thinking, I pushed Peter down into the ditch we were standing in and used my powers to redirect the rock towards some line of aliens.
I didn't look away until I felt him grab my hand.
He was crying.
"No, no. Don't you do that Peter. Because if you start crying, I'm gonna start crying and we need to win right now." I said instinctively wiping his tears.
"I missed you." He said, now pulling me into a tight hug.
I sighed. "I missed you too, but let's win this before we talk." I reluctantly pulled away.
Trust me, I would've given anything to continue hugging him, but right now I knew I had to be objective.
We looked around to see if there was anywhere we were needed. Carol and Thanos were fighting. And Thanos had the gauntlet on.
My breathing hitched. I began flying to them until I saw Strange holding back water from flooding the field.
I redirected myself towards him and began to move the water back. Carol could handle her own.
"No, go to your father, he's going to need you." He said, "I got this handled."
My father? I looked around and saw him face down near Thanos.
In a blind rage, I flew to him quickly.
"Dad?" I asked, shaking him awake.
We both looked up and saw Carol holding the gauntlet open.
"Get back." My dad said after looking at Strange.
I didn't argue. I flew several feet away from them.
I saw Thanos rip the power stone from the gauntlet and punch Carol with it. She went crashing into some debris.
My dad quickly got up and tried to remove the gauntlet. It was unsuccessful.
Thanos threw him a fair distance.
"I am inevitable." Thanos said while snapping his fingers…
But nothing happened. I waited for everything to be gone. He said he would destroy Earth and take great pleasure in doing so, but he didn't. He looked at the back of the gauntlet in shock. He then locked eyes with my father.
I looked to him and saw the stones move their way up his arm.
"No." I said under my breath.
Once the stones were in position, they all glowed. He looked like he was in pain.
"And I… am…" He paused and looked back to me for a second. He mouthed 'I love you' with tears beginning to fall.
"Ironman." He completed just before he snapped his fingers.
"Dad!" I screamed as a blinding white flash temporarily blinded me.
I hid my face as the light took over, but once it was gone, I felt different.
When I could see properly, I saw dad tiredly prop himself against a pile of rubble.
I quickly pulled myself up and stumbled my way to him.
"Dad?" I asked as I fell to my knees beside him. His eyes looked empty, but he still looked at me. Half of his face was burnt. He looked like should be in pain, but he somehow managed to look at peace.
"Hey brat." He said in a faint whisper.
"Hey, save your energy." I said to him. "Help!" I shouted to nobody in particular.
He lightly shook his head.
I heard Rhodey land, but kept looking at my dad.
He looked at Rhodey and gave him a faint smile.
Then came Peter.
"Mr. Stark?" He called. Once he saw him, his voice began to break.
"Hey, Mr. Stark, it-it's Peter. We won' Mr. Stark. I'm sorry Tony."
Dad look at Peter and then back to me. Peter nodded before being pulled back by Pepper.
"Pep." Was all dad could make out.
"FRIDAY?" Pepper said, hand on his arc reactor.
The AI said something about his vitals being low.
"We'll be okay. You can rest now." Pepper said, locking eyes with him.
He looked at me one last time. He pulled out one final smile and kept looking at me. I saw a single tear fall down from his eye.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the arc reactor turn from its shiny blue to black.
My father just died.
Pepper leaned in a kissed his cheek. After she placed her forehead on his chest and began crying.
I felt a hand being placed on my shoulder.
I heard Peter drop to his knees beside me. Then he was wrapping me in his arms and we were crying.
I held Morgan in my lap as we watched Tony's final message.
"I don't know if I'll have time to do personalized messages for everyone, but I'll be damned if I don't try. They'll be somewhere stored on FRIDAY. I trust you guys can find them…"
I zoned out. I didn't want to be here. I wanted to be laughing at a family dinner again, but instead here we are: mourning our dad.
Soon enough we were all at the lake. I sat with my feet in the lake. Morgan was standing, leaning against Pepper who had just released a bunch of flowers and dad's old arc reactor into the lake.
I was crying again.
I stayed there for a while. Just watching the flowers float around the lake.
Until somebody cleared their throat behind me.
I reluctantly turned around to see Harley.
"(Y/n), I am so…"
"Keener, I swear if you say you're sorry for my loss, I'm going to throw you in this lake."
"Well, what do you want to talk about?"
"Literally anything else."
"Well, I think I'm going back to Tennessee."
"What?" I asked, crossing my arms in annoyance, but also in coldness. The temperature suddenly dropped.
He sighed as he took of his jacket and placed it around my shoulders, "My mom called me. She wants me back there. But you're not there, so I don't particularly want to go back."
I mentally cursed. Really? He thought this was the time to discuss his confession?
He sat next to me.
"(Y/n), I get that it's tough right now. I'm not telling you to make a decision now, but I will wait for you." He said while placing a chaste kiss on my cheek. I also felt him squeeze my hand.
With that he got up and walked away.
----PETER'S POV----
I spent half of the service watching (Y/n). She and Mr. Stark were close. Anybody could see that. His passing hurt her. I didn't know if I could help here through this.
Shortly after Mr. Stark died, I was tasked with having to pull her away from her father's lifeless body. Her and Pepper asked for a moment alone. But in that moment, she attached herself to his hand. I tried to be as gentle as I could with her. But she wouldn't budge.
I didn't blame her. I was the same when my Uncle Ben died. I refused to leave his side.
Cap urged the importance of moving them though. Apparently the stones had to be returned to their times. This meant we'd have to pry the stones off of Mr. Stark. Cap and Dr. Banner said they didn't deserve to witness that.
So I did have to beg her to leave her father's side. When that didn't work, I had to drag her away from him. She cried as I began to pull her away.
"Peter, please a few more minutes." She begged through tears.
I placed my hands on either side of her face, "(N/n), I'm sorry this isn't healthy, trust me. I know."
My plea did virtually nothing to help her.
Suddenly rain began pouring from the sky. It didn't take long for me to realize it was her that was causing this. Not intentionally, it just happened. It got worse as we had more distance between us and Mr. Stark.
Suddenly another boy in a green suit landed near us.
"(Y/n), hey." He began to reach his arms out to her.
I quickly blocked this advance and kept walking her away.
"Peter, let me take her. I can get her somewhere dry quicker." He negotiated.
I thought about what was best for her. She didn't need to get somewhere dry.
I nodded and allowed him to pick her up bridal style.
And off they flew.
I felt helpless. It felt inappropriate for me to cry because she was the one who lost somebody, not me.
When we arrived though, I couldn’t help but notice the same man who flew (Y/n) out of the storm a few days back. Who even is he? I have never seen him around.
After Mrs. Stark placed the memorial to Mr. Stark in the lake, we all stood in a moment of silence.
She held Morgan's hand and began to walk back to the house. (Y/n) stayed at the edge of the lake.
I knew she needed time, so I walked into the house with May.
About 15 minutes later, I noticed it was colder outside. I ran up to her room and grabbed her a jacket. I stopped by her nightstand. I knew I shouldn't be snooping, but I smiled at the photo of us still sitting on it. But behind it, I saw a photo of her and the other boy smiling with ice cream. Surely they're just friends. Why else would my photo still be here, but then why did she also have a photo of him there too?
I shrugged it off and made my way outside to give her her jacket. Before I even made it outside I saw her wearing his jacket.
Once I was outside I began to hear their conversation. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but it was a Spiderman perk.
"My mom called me, she wants me back there. But you're not there, so I don't want to particularly go back." He said with a smile in her direction.
(Y/n) didn't respond. She just continued staring into the lake. He sat next to her. His leg was touching hers.
"(Y/n), I get that it's tough right now. I'm not telling you to make a decision now, but I will wait for you." He said while placing a kiss on her cheek. He also gave her hand a squeeze. He got up and turned around. When he saw me he smiled.
I stood still.
As he approached me, he smirked, "You were gone for five years, Parker. I wasn't. She moved on."
I clenched my fists. It took everything to not punch him in his smug looking face right then and there.
I ignored his comment and made my way to my girl.
"(N/n)?" I called to her.
"Peter, hey." She said, still stoically staring into the water.
"Stupid question, but are you okay?" I immediately regretted asking. Who asks that in a tim like this?
She actually looked up at me. She smiled sadly.
"I'll be fine. Actually I wanted to ask you something."
I sat down by her and nodded my head.
"Dad left me a video. I'm scared to watch it alone, can you…"
I already knew what she was going to ask.
"Yes. (Y/n), obviously." I said, looking into her eyes.
"Come on then, dad hates to be kept waiting." She said while pulling her feet out of the water.
I immediately jumped up at offered her my hand. She accepted as she pulled her shoes on.
She led me back to her room and sat on her bed. After a moment she patted a spot next to her.
"FRI, can you play my video from dad?" She asked, hesitation in her voice.
FRIDAY projected the video on her wall.
It was Mr. Stark sitting there with with a pensive expression.
"You know, I feel it. I can feel like I'll end up with the gauntlet. I can guarantee you, sweetheart, I will do everything I can to give you your five years back. From ages 14-19 you grew up too quickly. So when I inevitably get the gauntlet, I'm going to fix that. So I hope you're ready to go through high school for the second time."
"Oh God." She breathed out.
"FRIDAY, pause please." I asked.
"Peter, when he snapped, I felt different. He actually made me a 14 year old again." She choked out.
FRIDAY resumed the video.
"Also, I'm confident you'll do amazing things. You and your little boyfriend."
I smiled at Mr. Stark calling me her little boyfriend.
"Harley actually just asked me if he could ask you out after everything was back to normal…"
What? Wait, was Mr. Stark referencing Harley as (Y/n)'s boyfriend?
"Also when you inevitably walk down the aisle with him, just know I'll be there, watching you."
Crap. I zoned out. I didn't catch what he said. Who he meant.
"You already are the best big sister to Morgan, and I know you'll only continue that trend." He smiled into the camera.
She was crying her eyes out. I didn't know what to do.
"God, I wish I could make this video go on forever, but time is running out isn't it? Major things:
Your trust fund is frozen until you turn 18, obviously. I already wrote a letter of recommendation for you for University. By the way, don't feel pressured to go to MIT. Go to your topic pick. I'm trusting you with everything. Morgan is too young to understand, but you can carry on my legacy. I know you can. And I know you will. Morgan will eventually join you in that, but right now it's you. And I know you'll hurt. I didn't even like my dad that much when he died, but it it still hurt like hell; now, I'm assuming you love me, which only logically means losing me will hurt even more. A typical week or two of grieving is obviously encouraged, but there is a point when it'll become too much. Move on, grow. I'm not saying forget me, but just don't let my hypothetical death destroy you. You are too talented to let my death hinder your future."
She was still crying, but now she was clutching a pillow.
"I love you, (Y/n) (M/n) Stark. Don't you forget that. In fact, I love you 3000."
With that final comet, the video ended.
She took a deep breath in and smiled.
I awkwardly sat on her bed, looking at her smiling at the frozen image of her father.
"So, I guess I'll be going back to MidTown Tech afterall." She said, now wiping her eyes.
"Yeah." I awkwardly shifted.
A gentle knock was heard on her door.
"(Y/n), sweetie, is Peter in there?"
May.
I jumped off her bed and waved a quick goodbye. She didn't even process it. She was still looking at the wall.
I opened the door and silently shut it behind me.
"Hey, how is she?" May asked me in a hushed voice.
"Well, she just lost her only living parent, May." I said bitterly. Mostly because I saw Harley in the other room.
"Well, come on, Happy offered to drive us back." She suggested, following my gaze to Harley.
I followed her out. But I couldn't help but think about (Y/n) and Harley. Were they serious? At the very least I know Harley likes (Y/n) enough to have asked Mr. Stark if they could go out. I couldn't tell how (Y/n) felt though. Part of me obviously wanted her to still like me. Five years in the soul stone and all I could think about was getting back to her, but it didn't even hit me that other people could have already gotten to her. I was lost. I didn't know what to do about this.
…………………..
A/N: Wowie this ended up being WAY longer than what I thought it would be. I was originally aiming for circa 2000 words, but here we are.
Fun Fact: my original draft for this had the reader on the spaceship with Tony, Peter, and Strange; but I changed it.
Question: should I do a part two to this because it was left on a rather mysterious note.
*My POV*
"Wolfie, Wolfie, come on (y/n) wake up." I groaned tiredly and slowly I opened my eyes to see blurry figure standing over me. As my vision came back into focus, all I saw was long dark brown hair, a scruffy beard and a blue uniform as well as a metal arm.
"B—Bucky-bear?" he smiled widely and that's when I gasped and immediately tackled him in a hug. We embraced each other tightly as I whimpered out a sob. I wept into his shoulder, feeling all sorts of emotions at this point as I nuzzled into his neck. I felt him stroked down my hair before cupping both sides of my face.
"You're here." He said.
"So are you. Bucky you—you were the first to....." I trailed off before looking down sadly remembering what happened.
"Hey, it doesn't matter now. I'm back. And so are you."
"Yeah. Let's—let's see if we can't find the others." He nodded and that's when we stood up and walked along the jungle and the first people we found were Wanda and Sam. "Mama bear? Falcon?" they turned and the second she saw me, she immediately ran up and embraced me and I hugged her back.
"Oh Wolfie you're here too? Did you—"
"Yeah I....I was. Do—do you think they defeated Thanos?" I asked.
"I don't know."
"More importantly, how long do you think it's been?" it was then we heard a lion's roar in the distance.
"Isn't that—"
"Gen. And Sam." I turned towards them and Wanda said.
"Go, they're your people and they need their alpha." I nodded then I phased into my wolf form and took off running through the jungle. I stopped at one point and let out a mighty howl signaling my chimera pack to come find me.
As I ran through the jungle running towards the very part of the jungle where we all met up before the battle, I kept howling to signal every chimera to come find me. And I could hear not only from the animal calls far and wide of Wakanda, but also their voices through my collar of their panicked voices.
Finally I reached my high rock point and soon flying in was Maria as well as half of the bird chimeras. Leaping over the boulders was Sam, Dani and Gen as well as all the remainder cat and bear chimeras. Reptiles, elephants, canine, and stallion chimeras came near and they all talked through their collars.
'Alpha what's happened?'
'Did they save us?'
'What has happened?'
'Where is everyone?'
'How long were we gone for?' I let out a howl to silence everyone's panic and I said.
'My friends I don't know exactly what has happened. All I do know is that we've been brought back. How I don't know.' It was then a familiar yellow portal opened up and I was hoping it would be my mom but soon coming out was a man with sleeked black hair with a grey streak on the lower side of his head.
He wore similar clothing to how my mom trained me in the ways of the sorcerers. Could he be one of them too? He also had a red cloak that smelled alive to me, as well as a similar goatee that reminded me of Tony's.
"I'm looking for Mother wolf Raksha, otherwise known as (Y/n) Williams." I hopped off the rock now in my human form and I walked up to the sorcerer cautiously.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Doctor Strange and I'm here to answer your questions as well as ask for your help. There's not a lot of time to explain but it's been five years since Thanos succeeded his mission of universal genocide."
What?! Five years!? How—how is this possible?
"As I said I don't have a lot of time to explain because now the Avengers need our help. Can I count on you and your chimera army to fight the final battle against Thanos?" I turned to everyone and they all stood strong and nodded.
"Just tell me this Doctor Strange, will this fight be the one we win this time?" he just looked at me and said.
"If I tell you what happens, it won't." Typical. Mom always said the same thing.
"What do we have to do?"
"Just walk straight ahead with your army, then when the signal flares, you come through."
'What signal would that be exactly?' asked Sam.
"Your alpha will know. The rest of your army will join you at the location of the final battle." I nodded and with that he walked back through his portal and it disappeared.
'Okay—what the hell just happened?!' stated Maria.
'Has it really been five years?' asked Sarah, the second in command of the dingo chimeras.
"We'll ask questions later, right now we've gotta move." I said. I phased back into my wolf form and said to them. 'It may have been five years since everything happened. But we can't let that interfere with what we are about to do. Now I have a feeling that this fight will be bigger than the last one we fought, but we gotta hold strong. Thanos took away everything from us, and forced us to miss five years of being with everyone we know and love. Now's the chance to finally take our revenge on what he did to us. To those that survived and had to live without us. Let's show the bastard what happens when you mess with the chimera pack. Are you with me my friends?'
They all cheered and roared. I nodded and I ordered them to get into marching position. I stood in front of everyone and let out a howl and we soon marched forward.
As we walked ahead, I thought maybe I could try and reach out to my mom through the commlink on my collar.
I reached my metal paw up and pressed it to my collar and spoke.
'Mom can you read me? Mom it's me (y/n) can you read me?'
*3rd Person POV*
As Morowa was stunned to hear the voice of (y/n) from her commlink, at the same time Steve got a message from Sam Wilson.
'Hey Cap you read me? Cap it's Sam can you hear me?' Steve was in shock to hear Sam's voice over his commlink and as he pressed against his ear, the next thing he heard before the sparks of a portal began to open were, 'On your left.'
Both Steve and Morowa turned around and soon three figures came walking out of the portal. Okoye donned in her Dora Milaje uniform along with holding her spear, but it was the two people that she was with that sent so many emotions through them, especially Morowa.
For walking alongside Okoye, was Princess Shuri in her designed warrior outfit along with Vibranium sonic gauntlets and her face decorated in warrior paint. And right in the middle was the Black Panther, King T'Challa.
His helmet came down so that he could look into the eyes of his sister and fellow leader of an army. Steve and Morowa were relieved as well as thrilled to see them again. T'Challa stared at them strongly before giving them a brief nod.
It was at that moment Sam Wilson came soaring out of the portal and circled around the battlefield just as dozens of other portals began to open up from all different corners of the world and universe while Thanos stood there perplexed.
From Titan; Doctor Strange opened up the portal and readied his shields while coming up in front of him were the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Drax, Mantis, Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, and then swinging up and landing in front of them was none other than Peter Parker, Spider Man. He landed on some rubble before deactivating his mask and he stood up with a slight grin.
Morowa and Steve grinned at each other and nodded. It was then T'Challa proclaimed the Wakandan battle cry as coming out from behind him was the reassembled army of Wakanda. All those who faded away five years ago were now back and ready to defend not only their mother land, but their entire planet.
"YIBAMBE!"
"YIBAMBE!" his army cried out after their king as they all came out of the portal.
"YIBAMBE!" Morowa cried out to her people and the entire army including T'Challa echoed back to her.
"YIBAMBE!"
"YIBAMBE!!"
"YIBAMBE!!" As the portals grew larger and larger some Wakandan ships as well as Ravager ships came out. Leading in front of the Jabari tribe was Bucky wielding the same gun he used five years ago along with teenage Groot at his side.
Another portal opened up from Norway revealing the remaining Asgardians who came to Earth. Valkyrie wore her Valkyrie armor and was astride upon her winged Pegasus, and standing along side her were Korg and Meek ready to battle. Also joining beside them was Wanda, her palms glowing with her powers ready to fight.
Soon coming from Hong, Kong, London and New York were all the sorcerers activating their shields and getting into battle ready stances and leading them was none other than Wong. The portal opening beside them held a Ravager army led by their newest captain, Kraglin.
Growing to normal size was Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. She wore the newest advances Wasp suit that her mother never got to wore before she disappeared in the quantum realm, but it was a sign that Hope was to become the new Wasp. She looked around hoping to find Scott.
As they watched all their allies and friends coming forward ready to battle, Thor caught Stormbreaker in his hand and as Tony sat up finally conscious, he was most surprised to see a blue Iron woman suit land in front of Spiderman and the Guardian's portal. When the front of the helmet went up, the woman in the suit was none other than his wife, Pepper Potts.
And from both Wakanda and Ireland, the chimera army reunited together. Everyone in their animal forms and leaping in front on a pile of rubble letting out a mighty howl was none other than Mother wolf Raksha herself.
As Strange met up with Wong, he turned to him and asked.
"Is that everyone?"
"What you wanted more?" Wong snapped back at him. But it was at that moment from the rubble of the facility that still stood, Giant Man came out bursting through the rubble. He opened his palm to reveal Hulk, Rhodey who was now in the Patriot suit and on top of his shoulder wielding a gun was a grinning Rocket Raccoon.
*My POV*
This was it. The final fight that hopefully end all of this. Thanos took everything from me, and this time I wasn't gonna let him win again. As our side cheered and proclaimed out a battle cry and my chimeras all roared and stamped their feet to the ground, we were showing Thanos that we weren't gonna back down.
We we're going to fight, whatever it takes.
As we all got into position and my chimeras all crouched down, fur, feathers and scales riled up ready for a fight, I heard Steve proclaim.
"AVENGERS!!!" I saw Thor's hammer actually go to him and as he caught it he took a pause before finally saying. "Assemble." With a battle cry from Thor as well as all of us we charged head on.
Tumblr media
Ships, choppers, a Pegasus and bird chimeras took to the skies while the rest of us charged head on. Battle cries, screeches, roars and snarls were heard all around as I led the charge with Sam, Dean, Mitchell, Dani and Gen running beside me, all of us baring our fangs, roaring and snarling.
It was then Thanos' army charged toward us. All those that we had once killed were now alive again like the Black Order as well as the alien dogs were back. But just like five years ago, we'll end them too.
Both sides charged at each other. The forces of good and evil facing head on until finally we all meshed together in swords, weapons, teeth and claws. I first tackled one of the Chitauri aliens and literally ripped their head right off their body. Then just before an army of them could come at me, I unleashed the famed weapon that made the Bad Wolf most fearful, the super bark.
They went off flying into the air before being caught by the talons of my bird chimeras and were tossed around like prey before being torn apart limb from limb. I saw the Winchester pride working together to bring down one of the alien gorillas that Thanos had. Sam and Dean tackled the arms and shoulders while Dani and Gen worked together to bring him down by going for the head.
As I took down a few more Chitauri as well as some alien dogs I soon saw Tony getting outmatched by the Hulk sized alien. I growled and as Tony was knocked to the ground I charged head on. I saw two spiderwebs get shot at the Hulk alien's arms forcing him backwards.
That's when I leaped over Tony starling baring my claws and teeth at him before tackling him to the ground. I pinned his arms down, my metal claws digging into his armor as I licked my chops and bared my fangs down at him before immediately barking and snarling as I went for the head.
Like ripping apart a piece of meat, I heard the bones in his neck break and rip apart as I now held his head in my mouth and quickly disposed of it. Standing guard over the corpse , blood dripping from my fangs daring anyone who was nearby to come at me.
To the aliens that witnessed this horrific scene, they all just ran off but that was futile as I saw Gen and Sam ambushing them along with some of the leopard chimeras.
'Have at them my felines.' I muttered before turning to Parker. 'Thanks for the leverage Peter.'
"Wait—she wolf? Is—is that you holy cow you—you have a metal arm now? That's awesome chick. I-I-I mean well I....."
'It's cool Pete. You're not so bad yourself.' I walked off the corpse of alien Hulk before turning to Tony. Peter looked the same way I did and leapt over and said as he helped Tony stand up.
"Hey. Holy cow! You will not believe what's been going on. Do you remember when we were in space? And I got all dusty? And I must've passed out because I woke up and you were gone. But Doctor Strange was there right? And he was like....'it's been five years come on they need us'. And then he started doing the yellow sparkly things that he always does." I rolled my eyes at Peter's rambling.
But it was then I saw Tony walking right up to Peter before finally giving him a hug. Peter asked what he was doing but when he realized he was getting a hug from his idol and mentor, he relaxed and said as he hugged him back.
"Oh, this is nice." That's when Tony turned his attention on me. He let go of Peter and walked right up to me. I lowered my ears briefly and the two of us were silent and he said.
"Again I refuse to yell at a sad wolf. Let me see your human form now missy." I obeyed him and the second I turned human, he hugged me as well. I was tense at first because I didn't know how he would react this way.
I mean the last time we saw each other we—didn't end things very well. He believed that I had died that day in Siberia and I forced him to think that, not once did I send him something to show that I was okay because I was still pissed at him for pointing the targeting Bucky who had no control of his actions at the time.
But when I saw that he wasn't going to yell or even hit me, I relaxed and embraced him back.
"When this is all over, we're gonna have a serious talk young lady. But first please tell me I didn't give you that." He gestured to my metal arm.
"It's unrelated." He nodded then as the three of us looked out at the battle raging around us.
"Alright you two, go be Avengers." Peter and I nodded and as his helmet came back up and he swung away, I phased into my wolf form and raced off.
I assisted anyone nearby with either my skills as a sorceress, using my Native American transformer weapon, or phasing into my wolf form to take down the bigger prey. It wasn't until I was taken by surprise by old alien blue-haired bitch from five years ago. I snarled at her and I leapt at her in my wolf form, the two of us rolling around in the dirt. She had me pinned but just before she could stab right through me, a massive black furred body tackled her and proceeded to rip her head off.
Snarls and growls were heard as well as choked cries from her as her head came right off and it was tossed aside. I shook myself of the dirt and sniffed the canine in front of me. He turned around and I knew those fiery golden eyes anywhere.
'Rauri?'
'A mhuirnín?' we slowly walked towards each other in our wolf forms.
'Oh my god....'
'Is it—it is you. You're here. You're really here!' he tackled me and proceeded to lick and nuzzle into my neck. The two of us grunting and whimpering happily and lovingly.
Phasing into human form, Rauri and I cupped each other's faces and immediately kissed each other with desperate passion.
"I thought I lost you." He said between our kisses. I smiled sadly and I said.
"Me too. But you did what I had asked you to do."
"Avenge you. But I—"
'Uhh excuse me?' we turned and there were the Winchester family, Mitchell and Marie trying to take down one of the alien gorillas. 'We get that you missed each other but do you think you could save the mooshie, love-dovie talk after the battle is done?' I turned to Rauri and said.
"Two Bad Wolves on the hunt?"
"My love I've been waiting five years to go on a hunt with you." Our eyes glowed wolf yellow and we both charged head on before leaping in our wolf forms, fangs and claws out as we both tackled the gorilla down and the two of us going for the killing strike.
*3rd Person POV*
As the war continued to rage on, Doctor Strange was sending up with wisps of Nazareth up from the ground on some of the Chitauri before sending them to another dimension. As he landed, Morowa landed beside him and her Jaguar helmet receded and she looked at the new Sorcerer Supreme and said.
"So. Stark said one out of 14 million we win right? Tell me now this is it?"
"If I tell you what happens, it won't happen." said Doctor Strange. Morowa rolled her eyes and said.
"Now I see why she chose you." Then without even his knowledge, one of the alien dogs came towards Strange but Morowa summoned a long whip and caught the dog by it's neck. She pulled it towards her before stabbing it with her spear. "And don't pull your whips like your punching, let it flow like an extension of your arm."
Without even looking she summoned another whip to wrap around a Chitauri's ankle before bringing it to her and she did a spinning sidekick.
"Like that." She cocked her head before reactivating her helmet and she took off running over the rubble to take down more of Thanos' goons. Strange shook his head and muttered.
"Show off."
"At least she proved a better rookie than you were." Wong spoke up after sending an alien to the highest point of Mount Everest. Strange glared at him before Wong summoned out a shield and blocked another alien's attack.
As Bucky continued to fire away at any nearby alien that came within shooting range he fired at them till he saw an old piece of rubble just ahead of him. From above he looked up and saw one of Thanos' ships and he got to thinking back to the battle with Connor.
"Steve!" After he used Mjolnir to knock out one of the bigger aliens he turned towards his best friend and Bucky said, "Follow me and give me some cover!" Steve nodded and as Buck raced on ahead, Steve covered his friend till the two of them reached the rubble of a steel door.
"What have you got in mind Buck?" asked Steve.
"Alright, we're gonna put this on our backs and when I saw go, lift hard." He nodded and the two super soldiers picked the steel door up and almost on cue, they saw (y/n) in wolf form taking down an army of aliens with her super bark. He let out a loud whistle. "WOLFIE! RAIJU!!!" They lowered the shield downwards so that (y/n) could easily hop right onto it.
With narrowed eyes, (y/n) charged towards the two soldiers and as soon as all four paws touched the steel door, Bucky cried out.
"NOW!" and with a strong lift upwards, the two soldiers pushed (y/n) towards the closest ship. And just like back in Wakanda, her wolf body began to spark with lighting and her eyes turned soulless white with spiritual energy.
Lowering her head and much like she was able to back in her days during Hydra, and like what happened with Connor in Wakanda, she headbutted the closest ship Thanos had and it exploded into smithereens.
Everyone around was in brief awe and as Rauri howled out victoriously, all the chimeras cheered for their matriarch alpha female in the success of using her most powerful weapon she had gained during her stay at Wakanda, the move that had set them all free.
She landed safely on the ground and shook herself of the rubble as she stared up at the sky to see the ship fall down to the ground before exploding into a bigger flame.
'Maria, you and any other bird chimera grab as many of our allies as you can and take them away from the west part of the field'. She said in her collar.
'On it Alpha.' Soon hundreds upon hundreds of bird chimeras swooped down and began picking up any Ravager, Wakandan soldier, sorcerer, and Avengers member they could find. 'It's all clear go for it!' And with that all clear, (y/n) used her resonance howl and blew the fire towards Thanos' army, burning them alive.
The two super soldiers watched in awe at this Alpha she-wolf and Steve couldn't help but be proud.
"When was she able to do that?"
"Steve you don't know the half of what she can do. She's really grown not only as a warrior, but as a leader."
"I can see that. Seems our young She-wolf is all grown up now."
"Indeed she is." Bucky said.
"Alright come on, let's see if we can't help her out." The two super soldiers nodded before running towards her.
*A/N: START AT 59 seconds*
In another part of the battle, Thanos was killing any hero on sight and he growled out.
"Where's Nebula?" one of his Black Order members, Corvus Glaive who stabbed an Asgardian with his spear said.
"She's not responding."
"Sire." Ebony Maw said in alert as he pointed outwards. It was then Thanos saw up ahead Clint Barton running with the gauntlet containing the stones.
As he ran through the army of aliens, Clint used his katana to cut down any aliens coming at him head on. But when an explosion happened behind him, he went rolling forward but he caught himself and using his glove, he fired a mini poison dart towards his assailant. As it went down, he turned to see a whole army charging right at him.
But the next thing he knew, two figures in a black and gold Vibranium catsuits came in front of them, both of them sending powerful kinetic energies at the army knocking them down.
"Clint!" two voices called out to him. The two figures turned and the helmets came down to reveal T'Challa and Morowa standing before him.
"Give it to us." Said T'Challa. Then like passing the flag over in a game of capture the flag, Clint handed the gauntlet to T'Challa and the two Wakandans turned towards the army.
"Just like the Masai Maura all over again ehh brother?"
"You and I remember our training at the Masai Maura very differently." Said T'Challa as both their helmets came back over their faces.
Then like two cats running through the plains, both T'Challa and Morowa skillfully dodged every threat that came towards them. And if one got surrounded, they'd toss the gauntlet over to the next cat warrior who was open.
Both using their suits once they were fully powered up to send a powerful wave through the army, knocking them all out. But it was when T'Challa had sent his powerful kinetic energy wave outwards, that he was suddenly knocked down by a double axe sword, which caused him to drop the gauntlet.
Morowa ran towards her brother and the two saw Thanos catch his sword and trudge towards them. But before he could take another step, someone landed between him and the two Wakandans. Red energy surrounded the area and all he was were gleaming red eyes.
It was Wanda Maximoff. And she was pissed.
Tumblr media
"You took everything from me!" She snarled lowly.
"I don't even know who you are." Thanos snapped.
"You will." Wanda said lowly and threateningly. Her hands glowed as she began levitating in the air as well as bringing up two very large loads of rubble.
She fired one rubble pile at Thanos followed by the other, before finally landing down and using her own powers head on to hold of Thanos allowing T'Challa and Morowa to make their escape and grab the gauntlet.
But the ground around the gauntlet began to lift up, all thanks to Ebony Maw. The two of them leapt for the gauntlet unfortunately, they were now being squeezed to death by the earth surrounding them. T'Challa tried to keep hold of the gauntlet but he knew it wouldn't be long before he would be forced to let it go.
"I got it!" the two looked up to see Peter Parker swinging in and T'Challa immediately tossed him the gauntlet. Peter caught it before landing on the ground. "Activate instant kill!" the eyes of his suit lowered and gleamed red and his Iron spider legs came out and began to stab any alien that came right at him.
Back with Thanos and Wanda, Thanos tried to slice her in half with his axe sword but Wanda stopped him using her telekentic powers. His arrogance of his previous fights so far against the Avengers, he thought she'd be no different and that he could land a blow on her.
But he was wrong.
With a slight smirk and a gleam in her red eyes, Wanda sent a powerful upper palm strike which actually cut Thanos' weapon in half and sent it flying a good several yards away from him. Immediately using her left hand, she forced Thanos to rise into the air.
His entire body glowing with her energy as she now began ripping apart piece by piece, painfully slow every inch of his armor. Fearing for his own life and in his own narcissistic manner, Thanos proclaimed.
"RAIN FIRE!"
"But sire, our troops." Proclaimed Corvus.
"JUST DO IT!!" Thanos cried out in pain. And it was then his main ship unleashed all their guns and rained hellfire upon everyone down below.
Not only were the Avengers attacked, but all his ships and his army were also attacked too. As Wanda tried to protect herself, she was soon flow high above the air which forced her to free Thanos from her grasp. But just before she could land on the floor, a giant black mass caught her and shielded her.
'Hang on sister! Keep your head down!' From the voice coming from the collar, she knew it was Rauri. She ducked underneath his wolf stomach and he protectively wrapped himself around her shielding her with his Vibranium suit.
As the guns continued to fire down, Pepper ceased firing for a brief moment to see the lake beside the facility starting to unleash a flood down towards the battlefield.
"Uhh, is anyone else seeing this?" she asked through her commlinks. Doctor Strange who was the closest to the flooding, quickly ran towards the bottom of it and using his powers, created an air-like shield to keep the water up in a tornado shape. Because he knew if the water would rush down, everyone would be flooded.
Meanwhile back with Peter, he was starting to get overwhelmed by the army of alien dogs attacking him.
"I got this. I got this. Okay I don't got this. Help! Somebody help!" Steve who was currently riding on top of (y/n) had her stop and he said.
"Hey Queens, heads up." He then tossed Mjolnir across the field and then he told (y/n) as he unmounted her. "Go find him." She nodded then ran across the field to find Peter.
*My POV*
I sniffed the air for Peter's scent and that's when I saw Pepper in the blue Iron woman suit carrying Peter across the sky before sending him up towards a woman flying on a Pegasus. Wow and I thought those things didn't exist, but then again I've seen weirder so I'm one to talk.
I kept my eyes focused on them and just as a beam shot right in front of them. I ran up on top of a pile of dead alien corpses and leapt up towards Parker. As he grabbed the gauntlet, I grabbed him and I landed on the ground.
'Hang on tight Spiderman!' I ran back around but soon multiple shots were fired right down on us. I dodged as many of them as I could, sliding my claws against the earth to try and redirect myself (god I wish Hydra had turned me into a cheetah at this point).
Suddenly a blast came in front of us sending the two of us flying. I landed rolling on the ground in my human form. I groaned and tried to pull myself up but that's when another round of hellfire came raining down upon us.
"DUCK DOWN PETE!!" I exclaimed as the two of us crawled underneath a pile of earth and I got on top of him in my wolf form and fully activated the suit so that it would go around me as well as activating a shield to surround us. 'Keep your head down!' I said to him as all that surrounded us were grunts and the sound of constant gunfire.
I don't know how long it lasted, probably forever but it was then everything went dead silent. I perked my ears to see if I could hear anything and I thought I heard the sound of a sonic boom coming from the sky.
I deactivated the shield and that's when I saw the guns that once rained fire on up, were now firing at the sky.
'What the hell?' Next thing I saw coming down from the sky was this massive amount of energy. As powerful maybe even more than my Raijū form. It slammed right down into Thanos' ship immediately stopping the guns and when I took a closer look, I saw that it was actually not a weapon from a ship or missile, but a woman.
She flew back underneath Thanos' ship and like an exploding firework, his ship blew apart as the woman glowed like a giant start in the sky. Next thing I saw, Thanos' ship fell right into the river. Then the woman came and landed right over us.
She had blonde hair that had a combed over mohawk style haircut and she wore a red, blue and gold military suit of some kind. Her eyes were hard like stone as she stared down at us.
"Hi.....I'm Peter Parker, and this is (y/n) (l/n)."
'Williams now. (Y/n) Williams.' I said. At that point her eyes grew soft and a warm smile spread across her face as she said.
"Hey Peter Parker, (Y/n) Williams. You both got something for me?" we both stood up and as Peter held the gauntlet, we turned and saw the rest of Thanos' army heading straight toward us.
"I don't know how you're gonna get through all that." Peter said exhaustedly as he handed that gauntlet to the woman.
"Don't worry." Wanda said as she came flying in with the Valkyrie warrior on her Pegasus.
"She's got help." Okoye said as her and my mom came from our right. Pepper then landing beside my mom. All of my female chimeras came surrounding us as well as Shuri, the three alien girls, and the woman in the wasp suit.
'Get out of here Peter. We can handle this from here.' I told him. He nodded and backed off. I turned towards the army that was charging head on at us.
It was an all-female army versus the army of Thanos.
Tumblr media
"Hey she-wolf." The blonde woman said to me. As half the girls charged head onto battle. I turned to her and she continued, "that powerful surge I felt on my way over here. Was that you?"
'Yeah I—I sorta call it my Raijū form, it's something I recently—well sorta recently discovered.'
"You know I think combined together we could cause them serious hell. Care to join alongside me?"
'I don't know. I never knew I could do it twice in a row.'
"Well if it's anything like this," she held her hand up into a fist forming that powerful surge I had witnessed earlier. "All you have to do is just let it all out." I turned towards my female chimeras and I said.
'Gen, Dani. Lead the advance, go!' they nodded and it was then Gen gave the command.
'Chimeras attack!' soon all my female chimeras charged head on to help the rest of the ladies with the battle. I took a deep breath and got into a hunting position.
I focused my energy on bringing back my Raijū abilities and once I had it, I opened my eyes and just let it go and allowed the power to consume over me.
"There you go She-wolf, let's show 'em what we got." I let out a powerful resonance howl and thanks to my enhanced raijū powers, it made my howls twice as dangerous and deadly.
The woman and I charged head on and like two firing sonic bombs, we both bombarded through the army with her holding the gauntlet and me racing beside her sending out either sonic super barks or sonic resonance howls.
We got closer to the van that was going to be our time portal to get the stones back to where they came from before Thanos can even get ahold of them.
But I saw Thanos charging right for us so I let out a sonic resonance howl towards him which sent him backwards but it wasn't until three additions blasts that really got him flying backwards. Just before the woman and I got any closer to the van, a giant sword slammed right into the tunnel which sent quantum energy out sending everyone within range backwards. I rolled around on the ground and as I skidded across the floor, my vision went black.
*3rd Person POV*
After the blast and the gauntlet was now lying there in the middle of the ground, Tony removed a dead alien corpse off of him and saw the gauntlet just a few feet away from him. He turned to see Thanos going right for it, but he quickly tackled him to the side so that he couldn't get to it.
But with a jab of his elbow right into his face, Tony was sent flying backwards with a harsh grunt and lay on the ground completely exhausted. Thanos went for it again but just before he was inches away from it, Thor stepped in front of him and swung Stormbreaker at him.
Using both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir against Thanos, Thor managed to keep Thanos distracted from grabbing the gauntlet. He managed to force Thanos a few steps away then he turned back to grab the gauntlet but he was grabbed by his cape so swinging Stormbreaker again he tried to go for the head but Thanos caught his axe.
Thor called back his hammer and crossed it over Thanos' hand trapping him in an X lock as lighting sparked through Thor's veins and lite up his eyes as he yelled at the mad titan. Taking his chance, Steve leapt up and got onto Thanos' back and held him in a choke hold.
Enraged and having enough of their persistence, Thanos broke free of Thor's grip before headbutting him, knocking the God of thunder out. He then grabbed Steve by the back of the head and flipped him over his shoulder before standing over him and delivering a single punch to his head knocking him out as well.
 Play video
With no one to stop him this time, Thanos finally grabbed the gauntlet but just before he could put it on, he was tackled and the sound of snarling and growling was heard. He tossed the mass of fur aside only to reveal Rauri standing in front of him snarling and baring his teeth.
Taking note to how his arms and biceps were now easy access thanks to his sister in law. Rauri went for the painful strike of getting right at his left bicep, hoping that by biting as hard as he could, it would cause Thanos to drop the gauntlet.
But all that did was make Thanos even more impatient and more angrier. He yanked on Rauri's neck hide in a choke-like manner forcing him to let go and he then sent a punch Rauri's way. But he got back on his feet and snarled at the mad titan again with tail raised high and fur on end.
He then tackled Thanos to the ground and the two rolled snapping and snarling at each other. When Thanos managed to pin Rauri down, using his Vibranium back claws, he scratched Thanos' armor slowly chipping away at it but till not doing enough damage. But it did give Rauri the chance to get out from underneath Thanos and hop onto his back in human form.
Using the fighting skills he learned from his wife way back when they first met. He ensured to have his legs wrapped around Thanos' waist as he used the Vibranium claws on his armor to deeply scratch down Thanos' arm and anywhere near his face. He even unleashed his fangs and took a bite into Thanos' cheek scarring his face up pretty bad.
Thanos let out a painful yell before finally reaching for Rauri and tossing him down to the ground. But he ensured to keep hold of Rauri's arm as he held it behind his back and over his head. Rauri tried to free himself but all that did was cause Thanos to dislocate his shoulder which sent out a cry of agony out of Rauri.
He was then grabbed by Thanos and tossed aside like trash just like he did to Stark. He grabbed the gauntlet again and this time he succeeded in placing it on his right hand. Just as he felt the power of the stones surging through him, he let out a cry but just before he could snap his fingers together, another figure tackled him.
*My POV*
When I woke up, I could hear the anguish cries of my husband. And when my vision became clear I watched as Thanos holding my husband's arm way above and behind his back and I think I might've also heard bones breaking. But it was when I saw him toss my husband aside like trash that it became personal.
Because when you mess with one wolf, you get the whole pack. Especially if that wolf is the Alpha's mate.
Feeling absolute rage as I saw Thanos place the gauntlet on is hand, I activated my raijū powers once more and charged at Thanos. Just before he could snap his fingers, I cried out a battle cry as I grabbed his right hand and kept his fingers apart from each other so that he couldn't snap them.
"You are not taking my family away from me again!" I snarled out as I allowed my raijū powers to increase with the burning rage I felt inside me. Thanos and I fought for dominance and then he decided to headbutt me, which of course didn't work as I kept my sharp glare at him.
I then unleashed my spirit wolf to come forward and pin him down while snarling down in is face. I let out a fearsome cry as my fangs came out and my eyes went from soulless white to wolf gold.
Of course the bastard had to cheat as he pulled out the power stone and held it in his other hand before closing it into a fist and punching me right in the chest sending me flying in the air.
*3rd Person POV*
Seeing this all unfold, Tony felt like they were going to lose again. This Thanos proved to be even more savage and deadlier than the one they faced five years ago. He looked towards Stephen Strange and Strange who was still maintaining the water, turned towards Stark.
As the two of them stared at each other, Stephen with a shaky hand, slowly lowered his middle, ring and pinkie fingers signaling to Stark.
Tumblr media
One way.
It was then Tony realized what that one way meant. He knew what he had to do in order for this one victory to be the way they would save the universe.
Thanos reconnected the Power stone back to it's original spot and he once again felt the power of the stones surging through his body. Quick as a whip, Tony took hold of the gauntlet and held on as tightly as he could.
Thanos kneed him in the gut but Tony held on strong. He tried to go for a punch but Stark blocked it till finally Thanos just knocked him aside sending Tony away. Readjusting the gauntlet he stared at it in awe.
"I am....inevitable." then he snapped his fingers together. Only to hear a loud CLANK. Confused Thanos looked to the glove and turned it over. Only to see the Stones were gone.
But when he looked towards Tony, he saw all six of the stones moving up along his right palm and once all six stones were in place, Tony held back the agonizing scream as he felt the radiation from the stones starting to burn him alive.
The mad titan was horrified at what he saw. He had allowed his arrogance to blind him to what Stark had truly planned out.
"And I....." Tony panted out. "Am....." he glared pure hatred towards Thanos before finally whispering out strongly. "Ironman."
Tumblr media
And with a single snap, a flash of bright light boomed around Tony and thunder rumbled in the sky.
*My POV*
As Mitchell and Maria helped me back up onto my feet I was in shock to what I had just seen. The first thing to turn to ash was one of those leviathan ships that was heading towards Rocket ready to swallow him whole.
Then the remaining army, but not just that everything related to Thanos. His ships, the fallen soldiers of his army, his order, everything Thanos had strived to create to get to this moment was turning to ash.
I turned towards my marine Betas and they looked at me in shock as well as awe. We went over to Rauri and Mitchell helped him stand up and we all watched as Thanos was forced to watch everything he worked for disappear.
Just like he made us watch as our loved ones disappeared all those years ago.
When only he remained, my beta chimeras surrounded him and the exhausted Titian just looked at them before finally sitting down defeatedly. Rauri and I walked towards him and stood in front of him glaring down at him. He sighed so softly it was like the breeze of the wind.
The two of us turned to each other before nodding. We looked back at him and leaned down towards him before softly blowing out some air and at that second, Thanos turned to ash and faded away.
"It is finished." I said. I looked up to Rauri and nuzzled into his chest and with his working arm, he wrapped it around me and kissed the top of my head. But it was then I remembered. "Tony."
I raced towards him and was horrified at what I saw. His skin was almost charcoal grey, he looked like ash from a fireplace, blood was pouring out from his nose and the corner of his mouth, and the right side of him was almost completely burned away.
Rhodey who stood beside him only nodded knowing that there was no way he would survive this.
"Tony." I choked out. I knelt down beside Rhodey and cupped the side of his face and he mouthed out.
"(N/n)."
"I-I.....you promised me we'd try to sort what happened in Siberia out. But I—I can't do that if you die. Please Tony I—I can't....I can't lose you too. Please Tony I—I'm sorry Tony I'm so, so sorry....." tears kept falling down my face as Rhodey gently picked me up and I soon felt Rauri's arm wrap around me and I wept into his chest.
At this point Peter came swinging in and he was just as heartbroken as I was as I heard him choke out.
"Mr. Stark? Hey! Mr. Stark, can you hear me? It's Peter. Hey. We won, Mr. Stark. We won, Mr. Stark. We won! You did it, sire, you did it. I'm sorry.....Tony." At this point Peter was like me at this point, trailing off crying as Pepper and Rhodey gently backed him away from Tony. Finally Pepper knelt in front of Tony.
"Hey." She softly said as she placed her hand over the arc reactor at the center of his chest.
"Hey, Pep." He softly whispered as he placed his hand over hers.
"Friday?" Pepper said and that's when I could hear Friday say.
'Life functions critical.' Oh god please don't tell me it's true.
The two of them stared lovingly at each other and all I could see even though the life was fading from his eyes, Tony was showing pure love as he stared at Pepper. Almost like he was trying to memorize her face one last time.
"Tony? Look at me." Pepper told him as Tony now tried to look away. He groaned weakly and wheezed softly as Pepper smiled assuringly but still having tears in her eyes. "We're gonna be okay. You can rest now."
And with that I heard Tony take his last breath. The light on his arc reactor die out, his hand fall lifelessly from Pepper's, and finally the last amount of life in his eyes went dull and empty.
Pepper's lip quivered as she lowered her head for a moment before kissing Tony's cheek and bowing her head to sob against his shoulder. It was then I knew, no we all knew.
Tony Stark was dead. Sacrificing himself to save billions of people across the universe.
Play deleted scene
We all stood there in silence and that's when I saw Clint bow down with his left leg forward pressing his head to his hand. T'Challa and my mom soon followed after turning to Clint, the both of them having the same leg out in front.
The blonde woman turned to them and she followed behind, while at the same time a man wearing some sort of red garb that looked alien to me also kneeled down. The blue robotic alien woman followed his lead immediately joined by the Valkyrie warrior.
Scott also joined in bowing. Steve followed suit then Thor, and Stephen Strange who held guilt in his eyes probably knowing that this is what had to happen in order for us to win.
I then phased into my wolf form and bowed respectfully for Tony. Rauri followed suit and tried to bow as best he could with a dislocated leg, every single one of my chimeras followed behind us. Soon the rest joined in, Bucky, Sam, Shuri, Okoye, Wanda, Rhodey, Peter, Bruce, the woman in the wasp suit, even the other aliens.
Every single one of us was bowing with our left foot forward as a sign of respect and gratitude to a man that sacrificed his life in order to save us all. A hero that should never be forgotten, the one who started it all.
Anthony Howard Stark.
Echoes
(I warn you, this is sad as fuck. If you’re in a sad mood, or you’re crying already, please don’t read it? It’s also long and I don’t want to break it up so I’m sorry. It’s mid/post Infinity War/Endgame so be aware of that. Spoilers galore.)
Pairing: Tony x powered!Reader
Word Count: 4.7k
Warnings: Death, angst, swearing.
When the images first came to you, they were terrifying. They were terrifying because you just couldn’t explain what you were seeing. Your first encounter had been walking into an empty bakery early one morning with money your mother had given you. Standing and waiting you smiled as a man in his forties came out and smiled at you, “Can I get you something, sir?” The comment had caught you off guard, wanting to correct that you were a woman, but thinking that it was just a mistake. Baggy clothes, hair up, no big deal.
“Yeah, uhm, I think my mom-”
“Sure thing! Banana loaf is great today. Let me cut you some slices!” He turned and moved to the display case where you followed, confusion washing your features. What was he talking about?
“No, I’m sorry, excuse me, sir, I was going to ask for a half-dozen everything ba-” you were cut off again as the man suddenly left your vision, a young woman coming into view giving you an odd look. She was a teenager, probably doing the job on weekends. Eighteen maybe, putting her two years older than you.
“Hey, you OK? Was someone else out here helping?” She looked confused, her eyes scanning the store that was empty, save for the two of you. No one else. No man in his forties.
Closing your eyes tightly you took a breath and opened your eyes again. Maybe it was the lack of sleep, up late studying for finals. You tried to brush it off and instead got the bagels before hurrying home. You’d convinced yourself by then that it really was just a lack of sleep. You’d heard about it, right? People seeing things when they’re that tired.
Things only got worse after that. It made functioning impossible. One minute you’d find yourself trying to talk to your mom and the next moment she was behind you. When you did reach out those times you heard people talking as though you weren’t there your hand would go through them, dissipating the form.
Your mother thought you might be crazy. She was scared. Your family was all scared. The doctors had said it was early-onset schizophrenia, but you had insisted there were no other symptoms. You weren’t paranoid, you were bathing, and the only reason you hid away was you were less likely to encounter… people. What bothered you most about all of it, however, was that they were real. It wasn’t like they were people that didn’t exist. It was your mother. Your math tutor. Your best friend.
What finally tipped you off was when you started realizing that some of the things those people that you saw were doing and saying were things you’d heard and seen them do already. You’d already watched your mother drop the cup on the floor and curse as the glass shattered. You’d already watched Mr. Reginald distribute the tests out. They’d already happened.
The medications you’d been prescribed had dulled your senses and made you weak, but you knew enough to realize that it wasn’t a hallucination. This was real. It was real enough that you’d begun cheeking the medications and letting yourself learn to differentiate between the ‘echoes’ as you called them and reality.
Soon enough, once you hit eighteen and had taken two long years to figure it all out, you’d begun to use your abilities for good. Crimes that had gone unsolved, you’d snuck into where they’d taken place and found you could actually summon the echoes. You’d watch a man, his features clear, holding a gun. Or you watched a group of men file into a car, getting the make, model, and plate. The police took your suggestions on a whim, but after five solid assists in a row they got skeptical. And when you’d realized that you could echo the future? You stayed much quieter then. Even if it was only brief. Only seconds at a time.
After that you realized safety was key and stayed anonymous. You used disposable phones to relay information, traveled around, and for years it kept you alive. It wasn’t until your twenties where you had come home to Nick Fury sitting on your second-hand couch, “I’m curious. For someone doing good deeds it’s weird to me while you’d stay anonymous. Something you wanna share with the class?”
Nick was younger then, when he recruited you. He believed you about your powers as you had told him exactly how he got into your home, summoning the echo only you could see. He took it upon himself to bring you into SHEILD and you’d done so willingly. It was a place to do good without hiding and without feeling like a freak. No one wanted to medicate you here.
So you’d trained with them, years going by as you harnessed your abilities to an unreasonable extent. The past was always easy to harness but the future was seconds. With focus you found you could hit maybe about twenty seconds. Once you even got a minute. It was eerie. But you were good enough that when the Avengers began to form Fury had insisted you join up. By now you were older, trained, and you at least knew Clint pretty well. He had introduced you to everyone and it was Tony who had given you that smile. That cheesy smile that said he thought he could woo you without even trying.
You made him try.
He’d try and distract you while you read, offer to bring you along as his date to galas and meetings. It’d frustrate him to no end when he was practicing in the mirror how to ask you out and you’d pop your head in the room with a simple, “No, Tony. I hate galas.” Then you’d walk out. You’d already seen him ask you. He’d still ask, after. Just to check.
When you finally did say yes it was to a simple Thai restaurant a few blocks away where Tony wasn’t well known and the two of you could sit in the back corner, talking and smiling. Truth be told you had wanted to say yes from the moment you met him, but it was fun making him work for it. It meant he had really wanted to be with you. Not that you felt like you were toying with him, you were always kind and good to him, but you certainly didn’t want to be another notch in his bedpost, so to speak.
What really caught you off guard, more than anything, was how deeply you had fallen in love. He was a man who made an entrance even when no one else was watching. He did it because you were watching, and you were his world. He’d shown you how to use the Iron Man armor for emergencies, he’d made state-of-the-art weapons working with Shuri to help you in combat. The man wanted you safe and it had only made you fall harder.
It hadn’t taken long for the two of you to become an item, either. You remembered laying in bed one morning, staring at him as he woke, the sun shining in. He squinted a little at your bright, smiling face, “What’re you so happy about this early?”
Laughing softly you leaned in and pressed your lips gently against his before pulling away, “Waiting for FRIDAY to send in the ‘bots with my breakfast in bed.”
He closed his eyes and palmed his face a bit, turning so he was on the back looking at the ceiling, “You saw the echo of me programming it last night, didn’t you? You know, Y/N, you make surprising you really difficult.”
You laughed and took his hand, kissing it warmly before getting close and resting your head on his chest, “Yeah, but you still love me.”
Kissing the top of your head he stroked your hair gently, “Yeah. I kinda do.” ___________
In a flash you had seen it. Seconds, only, the chaos limiting your range as you watched. As Thor came down from the sky, slamming Stormbreaker into the Mad Titan, you reached out with a scream. Even as you ran towards where the two were, you already knew it was too late. You watched the world around you dissipate into dust. You watched Wanda disappear. You watched Bucky vanish. You saw T’Challa gone and all in an instant. And then he snapped his fingers and you watched it happen again.
Pain roared through your body as you fell to your knees, screaming, angry that you hadn’t seen just far enough in advance to stop it. You’d gotten to a minute in training but what good had that done now? You scrambled to your feet, for a second hoping your powers were wrong somehow. But instead you ran, watching as Bucky once more vanished, as Wanda once more disappeared, as T’Challa, as Sam, as Groot… as all of them turned to dust.
You hadn’t been strong enough. You hadn’t fought hard enough. You hadn’t seen in advance far enough. Tony was gone and now so were half your friends and family. So was half the universe.
You had gone with Tony to the cabin when he left, when he had begged you to come with him. You’d seen the pain in his eyes and he’d seen your own anguish as you’d thought him dead. You’d all lost so much. Tony had lost a son when Peter had slipped from his hands and to another world, something he had told to so few. You’d found out days later that your mother and father both had dusted. Even your biological family was gone.
It had been like living in a mirage, though. The cabin was wonderful, the garden beautiful, and the conversations delightful. You never told him about those dreams you had, though. It was too hard. And he never told you his. It was the one part where the two of you didn’t talk. It was part of why the cabin was such a relief. There were no echoes here. No shadows or visions of the world past. You instead saw squirrels before they darted before you, or a fawn getting close early in the morning.
“Any bears today?” Tony came up behind you as you sat on the porch, looking out over the pond beyond the home. He was holding a mug you had purchased that said “World’s Okayest Boyfriend”. He was sipping coffee, per usual. He’d have another six by the end of the day, for sure.
You only grinned and adjusted the white shawl around your shoulders, “Not for the next thirty seconds. Your robot worked at scaring the coyotes away from the chickens, though. Didn’t hurt them, like you say,” your eyes fell to the coop nearby, seeing the coyotes being scared off by some device Tony had rigged up. You watched as they scattered in all directions, back into the forest where they resided.
He looked proud, “Was there any doubt? World’s best scientist here, you know,” he winked as you turned back, turning fully to kiss his cheek.
“Tell that to Banner. He’s got some game,” you smirked.
And with that, your world was perfect. None of the Avengers that were left bothered you in your domicile. Occasionally Nat would reach out to you with a text or so, but always just to make sure you were safe. You always insisted you were. But that was Nat… she needed something. You imagined that the world not having the chaos it did before was burning at her. The universe was in disarray but it wasn’t the kind fixed by punching it.
It was years before the car pulled up, something you weren’t prepared for until you heard it. You could see Steve and Nat clearly, stepping towards the door with Tony, “It’s them,” you spoke softly. Tony was shaking a bit as he held the door, pausing before opening it. He took a breath, putting on his usual calm demeanor before stepping out with you behind him, “Selling Girlscou cookies early, this year.”
You followed behind, staying quiet as you watched the two with barely a nod. You weren’t prepared for them. They reminded you of Bucky. Of Sam. Of Wanda. Of all of them.
“He’s going to say no,” you spoke up, interrupting the conversation.
Tony looked back at you, no longer confused at your comments, “Should I ask what I’m saying no to?”
You frowned and walked next to Tony, taking his hand in your own, “They’re asking you to come back. They think they’ve got this fixed.” There was a look of anger on your face. False hope was what had brought you all here, wasn’t it? The idea that maybe one last fight could take down Thanos.
Nat looked wounded, “We do. Scott’s got-”
“An idea. Time travel. I can’t listen to this.” You dropped Tony’s hand and turned, walking back across the porch that creaked ever so slightly, leaving behind the Avengers that had taken you in… what was it, Twelve years ago? Thirteen? It didn’t matter. You couldn’t listen to the conversation and in the end it wasn’t meant for you. But your stomach sank none the less an you felt something terrible stirring inside you. The future was unpredictable. You could change the shadows of what might come in the present moment but never an entire future. The bullet you dodged would always go that same trajectory, you were just able to be out of the way. Now it felt like you were in the line of fire once again, but it wasn’t a bullet you could dodge. This felt like a missile. And how could you dodge a missile?
As you stepped inside you felt yourself frozen, for a fraction of a second, looking over as you heard faint sobbing. Confused, wondering if maybe someone else had come or maybe the TV was on, you walked to the couch. There was a figure sitting up, staring out the window, unmoving aside from the soft shaking from sobs.
But you knew.
Walking around the couch you felt the agony and terror in that pit in your stomach, looking at the face of the woman.
It was you.
Tears were streaming down your face as you stared out the window, shaking your head as you played with the tissue in your lap, “I’m sorry.” She looked up, straight at you. Straight into you.
Startled, you stumbled backwards, almost falling as you caught yourself and glanced outside to see if the group had been alerted. They weren’t. Looking back at the couch you were gone. That couldn’t have been an echo. There was no way. It wasn’t from the past, not that you could recall, and it certainly wasn’t from the near future. You’d had cuts on your face and scuffed-up hands. But it wasn’t an echo.
If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things?
Shaking your head you pushed out the thoughts that threatened to flood in, walking to the kitchen and quickly filling a tall glass with water, downing the liquid. It was cool. Filtered with Tony’s system, of course. You relished in the sensation as you tried to focus on here and now. Be present, you had reminded yourself when things got out of hand. Be mindful.
That had felt so much like the first time you echoed, the first time you had seen that man in the bakery. You were sixteen again and you were all but lost.
___________
“Hey, sleepyhead,” Tony’s words woke you, having drifted off on the couch in front of the television, some old movie playing in the background. Tony looked tired. He smelled like coffee and that own special brand of Tony. He reached out and gently pushed back your hair, caressing your cheek with a gentle smile.
You yawned, not wanting to move, “We’re gonna have to go back… aren’t we?” You spoke, sadness and a sort of true exhaustion in your voice. It was already so draining. You knew what all of this meant.
He smirked a bit as he kept brushing your cheek, “Always echoing.”
You smirked back, “Not this time, Stark. I just know you too well. Can we at least sleep here tonight?” You were forcing your body up, Tony helping you to your feet as he wrapped an arm around your waist, the two of you walking up the stairs together towards your bedroom.
He leaned in and kissed the top of your head, “As long as I’m holding you, dear, then we can wait until morning. The world won’t end tonight. Will it?” He looked at you curiously.
You laughed, opening the door and stepping through, taking his hands as you sleepily pulled him in with you, “Not in the next twenty seconds, handsome.”
He smirked. That devilish smirk that had always gotten you. He knew it, “I can work with twenty seconds.”
___________
Scott had insisted you stay behind from the time travel stuff. While you’d pled at first, Tony had insisted with your echoes it could disturb what was even happening. You sometimes struggled to differentiate between what was real as it was, and having existed in some of those timelines already, would you be seeing the past? The future? But were you seeing a different future…? It was too much to risk.
But of course, as these things go, everything had gone to hell. A different Nebula, Thanos summoned, the world crashing and chaos. Even after Hulk had snapped and brought everything back, Thanos had come back with him. As had his army. And of course the fight. The fighting. All of it.
You hadn’t been there with Tony, Steve, and Thor, but you’d been with Rocket calling out warnings and shots. You had been there when the portals opened up. You had been there at the calling of Steve Rogers… no, of Captain America as he shouted, “Avengers, ASSEMBLE!”
The chaos was beyond what you had ever prepared for. It made the Battle of New York look like a speck of dust. You had watched Carol lay waste to ships, the monsters and beasts that crawled forth held back by Bucky and Sam who had returned. You watched as Wanda was able to finally confront the monster that had taken so much from her and you felt proud.
You felt good.
Even as you dodged punches and swipes, monsters coming from all angles. You watched as the Gauntlet was passed around and you watched, finally, as Thanos got his hands on his.
The world was paused as you watched Tony knelt, the stones in his makeshift gauntlet and you saw it. You saw it before he snapped his fingers. You watched him fall to the ground and you watched the life drain from him. But you could stop it, right? You could stop it. You had time. You were close enough to Tony.
Your feet were planted as you began to run forward, only stopped as you felt the magical, glowing ropes around your waist, holding you back. Turning, fear and anger across your features, you watched as Strange held you back, “Only one.”
Turning back with terror on your face you knew. Tony had told you in bed one night what Strange had said, that of all the timelines he’d seen there was only one where they won. You had all assumed that timeline was over, before. The thought hadn’t come back to you. Not until now.
Your eyes were locked desperately onto Tony’s, the man looking at you, mouthing the words, I love you before looking back at Thanos, “I. Am. Iron Man.”
The scream that erupted from your lip was inhuman. The bonds around you were released as the new snap took place and you ran, fast as you could, to Tony. Your body flew at a speed so desperate you couldn’t be held back by anything at this point. But the damage was done. He was sitting now, and you were finally by his side, “No, no, please Tony, don’t do this to me,” you whimpered, tears already flowing down your cheeks.
Peter was by your side, his words not registering as you gripped at Tony’s free hand, watching him die for the second time. You had seen his echo, the snap of his fingers and the destruction of the world around them. You had watched him fall, watched FRIDAY report in her own sad voice that his vitals were failing. And here you were, again, watching him die, “I’m sorry,” you whimpered as you sobbed.
With the last strength Tony had, he turned his head, eyes locked on you as you felt him fade away. His hand went limp, his body losing all that was left. You could feel Rhodey’s hand on your back as the tears poured forth, your form barely held up as you sat on the dirt, clinging to his lifeless hand, “I should have saved you. You should have let me do it… you should have let me do it! I knew what would happen!” You screamed.
He knew, of course. Strange knew. They all knew. You could always dodge that bullet, but you could never dodge a missile, and that missile had finally hit. Only this time you weren’t the one in the explosion radius, just the aftermath.
Just a world without Tony Stark in it.
___________
You were mostly quiet at Tony’s ceremony. You didn’t need to use your abilities to know who would come up and hug you, who would stay with you. It was good to see them, though. To see all of them. You knew Tony would smile at Sam being back with Steve, and even glad that Bucky was back. He’d be relieved to see T’Challa and he’d be hugging the hell out of Peter. You were grateful he did. He got that one hug in. He did it for all of them. For Clint’s family, for Peter, for the billions lost in a moment he felt he could have stopped himself.
It was heartbreakingly tragic, you had thought to yourself, that both times you had seen the world end. Both times you had watched the death of those you loved most only to experience it twice. But with Tony you had felt so angry. Strange didn’t speak with you much, not that you were really mad at him. Tony would have done it anyway. Strange had suffered that same pain you had, though. Knowing the loss that would come and having to let it happen. But Tony had been yours.
Finding your way inside the home, Avengers still loitering, you made your way to the couch, taking a seat as you looked out the window. There was a tissue in your hand as you sat and sobbed, having given up on wiping away the warm tears that fell from your bloodshot eyes. Your face was swollen, your body still littered with cuts and bruises. You knew this moment so well, though.
Looking up to where you knew you’d be, you felt the guilt of having not stopped it swelling inside you. Overtaking you. Making you angry and making you so very distraught. But you knew that the words wouldn’t register, not yet. You were the only one who would understand, though. Playing with the tissue in your hand you kept your eyes locked to where you saw the echo of yourself standing, watching with confusion and a sense of dread you’d come to understand. It was all you could manage, though, “I’m sorry.” You needed to apologize to someone. To anyone. You had felt the guilt and the fault in your body weighing you down like stone. If only you’d seen further. Maybe you could have stopped Strange, or maybe you could have snapped it yourself. The world needed Tony… did it need you? You felt like you didn’t need it right now.
The echo vanished just as quickly as it had come and you looked back out the window. Soon the flock that had come would leave. Happy would insist he could stay and Wanda had asked if she could keep you company. You had declined both. Rhodey almost forced himself to stay in the cabin but he respected your wishes.
What caught you off-guard, however, was Peter coming over to you. He stood by where you were sitting, hands folded in front of himself, donning a nice suit. You wondered if Tony had gotten it for him. Probably.
“I’m sorry about Mr. Stark, Y/N…” His own eyes were red from tears and you couldn’t help but smile. Tony had loved Peter like a son and you had taken fondly to him just the same. He was a good kid. He was still unbroken from the world. Still on the righteous path.
Scooting over you made room for him, patting the seat and watching him cautiously perch by you, clearly wanting to give you space, “Me too, Pete. But he did it for all of us. He did it to make sure we were around to save the world,” you forced a smile and rubbed his back lightly.
Peter nodded, looking down for a second before turning back to you, “Can- can I ask you a question, Y/N? You don’t have to answer it.”
Your hand dropped and you placed both back in your lap, looking at him confused, “Of course, Peter. What is it?”
He winced a bit before looking away, “Are you going to see him? I mean… like, are you still going to be able to see him?” When he turned back you weren’t sure if it was pain, compassion, or fear in his eyes. But there was something there. Concern, maybe. That was Rhodey’s concern. That was all of their concerns. You understood it, but at least Peter was saying it.
Frowning you gripped the tissue hard, “Probably. I can’t control my abilities all the time. And being in the cabin, where he was… yeah. I’ll see him.” The reality of it hit you deep in your stomach, the understanding and realization that Tony was gone, but he’d never leave you. It wasn’t consoling though. It wasn’t reassuring at all.
Peter nodded, “I hope they’re all good echoes,” he smiled. He meant well. He always did.
Tears welled up in your eyes again and you knew the crying wouldn’t really stop. That was OK. So you nodded, “They’re all good echoes with Tony.”
The truth was, if you were being honest, that none of the echoes would be good. They would be echoes of Tony kissing you, but you’d never feel that kiss. Echoes of Tony holding you, but never feeling him. Echoes of you catching Tony looking over at you when you weren’t paying attention and just watching. Echoes of echoes. They would all be echoes of a man you loved but could never touch again and you knew it would be impossible to move on.
___________
Leaving the cabin had made sense. You couldn’t go back to the Tower, where he had wooed you and made sweet and charming advances. You couldn’t go to the compound where he’d taught you to use the suit and how to put it on. You couldn’t go anywhere in New York City. You couldn’t drive in that car. You couldn’t look back.
As you walked down the front steps of the cabin, unsure what direction you’d be headed, you turned back one last time to look up the steps. Tony was there, smiling as he wrapped his arms around you, standing behind you. He was pressing his lips against the back of your neck and whispering into your ear. Pain and grief filled your heart. He was there. He was gone. He was a ghost in a world that would never exist for you again.
Turning away you walked to the car Happy had arranged for you, getting inside and turning on the ignition, beginning to drive down the bumpy road.
Where are you headed?
A place without ghosts.
Warnings: Major Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame Title: On Relativity Rating: T (Mild language, alcohol mention.) Words: 1900 Pairing: StarMora is mentioned but is really not the point. Summary: Set after Avengers: Endgame in a theoretical first act for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Quill loves his family and would do anything to protect them. Rocket loves his family and would do anything to protect them. So, naturally, they have a fight over it. External Reading: FFN, AO3
“Guys… I’ve got her.”
Everything froze. Drax’s epic story to Mantis about his arena days. Mantis’ giddy yammering as she absorbed her friend’s excitement. Nebula grunting as she failed to get the high score in Arcade Defender. Groot’s backseat gaming. Thor’s never-ending questions about space. Rocket’s never-ending answers as he tinkered with something explosive.
It took a moment for the (As)Guardians of the Galaxy to process that they’d actually heard Quill say what they thought he’d said before the six nearly trampled each other to get a better view of Quill’s monitor and the odd life signal flickering in and out next to an old mugshot of Gamora.
“Are you certain?” Drax asked.
“That’s her,” Quill replied, his hands trembling and one slowly reaching towards his long-missing girlfriend’s photo on the screen. “Exact DNA scan. It took forever but this could only be her.” Quill shot back down into his seat and started working the Benatar’s controls. “Setting course now. Get ready for 3 jumps.”
“I am Groot?”
“I don’t know. Some mudball in the Helgentar System called Vormir.”
Nebula, Thor, and Rocket shared a look that Mantis didn’t have a chance to ask about before Quill continued. “Jumping in 5, 4-”
“Wait.” Quill stopped with his finger an inch from the jump button. He didn’t move it when he looked over at Rocket, perplexed. “What? What’s the problem?”
“That ain’t just some mudball; it’s where the Soul Stone is.”
“...What?”
Thor glanced between Rocket and Quill, debating if he should speak but knowing he could not keep such important information from his new team… and also knowing who else might yet be alive if his hunch was correct. “That would make sense. Maybe.”
Strange for this group, nobody interjected, so Thor continued. “There is a legend about the Soul Stone among my people, in which it can not only control souls but also house them. There is said to be an entire alternate world inside of that stone. If such a place does exist, it’s possible that’s where your friend has found herself.”
“So you’re saying that if we want to find Gamora, we need to go for Vormir,” Quill’s hand was now a centimeter from the jump button, “get inside the Soul Stone, and bring her out?”
“Assuming the legend is true, yes.”
“Well, I guess we’re going to Vormir to find ou-”
“Quill, would you slow down for a second, please?” Rocket pleaded.
Quill blinked at Rocket actually displaying manners. His finger was now close enough to the jump button that an accidental twitch could fling them across the Galaxy.
“This is an Infinity Stone we’re talking about. Remember? We all held one on Xandar and would have died if your mom hadn’t gotten knocked up by an all-powerful planet? One of those things that Thanos used to cause pretty much the worst day ever? The one that specifically got Gamora killed in the first place? Maybe you weren’t listening when we filled you guys in on how we saved your sorry butts, but the Soul Stone deals in lives. You have to off someone to even get your hands on it much less figure out how to get in and out of it. We could go there to pick up one person only to have to leave someone else there. Add some whole other world we know nothing about except for Thor’s fairy tale into the mix and we could all wind up dead.”
“...So you’re saying,” Quill glared, “ we shouldn’t try to rescue Gamora.”
“Oh for-” Rocket rolled his eyes. “I’m saying we shouldn’t mess with a crazy powerful cosmic object that could easily kill us all! Again!”
“Yeah, except that’s the only way to rescue Gamora,” Quill’s volume started increasing and he finally moved his finger away from the console to ball both his hands into fists, “so you’re saying we shouldn’t rescue Gamora!”
“We don’t even know if she’s actually there or if your stupid ‘upgrade’ of a ship is glitching out!”
“Yeah, but if it isn’t a glitch, you’re saying we shouldn’t rescue Gamora!”
“Fine! I’m saying we shouldn’t rescue Gamora! You happy now?!”
Rocket didn’t recognize the next expression on Quill’s face, but Mantis, Nebula, and Drax did. They’d seen it on Titan.
“...Are…” Quill chuckled in disbelief. “Are you for real right now? First you run with your tail between your legs from Thanos and now you’re afraid of one of his rocks?!”
Thor took a step forward, his eyes starting to glow faintly. Groot extended his arm as a barricade. “I am Groot.” No, let this happen.
“Watch it, Quill,” Rocket said through his teeth.
“You watch it!” He took a step towards Rocket, but he didn’t expect Rocket to actually take a step back in response. Quill paused for a moment at this but it only seemed to make him more angry.
“Gamora’s our friend! Our family! How could you not even care what happens to your family?!”
Silence.
Absolute and instant silence. Quill realized his mistake before his last sentence had finished echoing across the bridge. Rocket stared at him with an expressionof complete betrayal and his eyes started to water.
Surely, Rocket - of all people - would start yelling back before any actual tears could fall.
He didn’t.
“...Rocket,” Quill reached a hand out towards his friend. Rocket had never looked so small before. “I’m s-”
“It’s fine.” Rocket said with a cracking, quiet voice as he stared at the floor. “I’m sorry. Of course I want to save her, I just… Just… keep working on the rescue plan without me, okay? I’m gonna go make sure our gear’s ready.”
Nobody said a word as Rocket left the bridge, and Quill was fully prepared for someone to all but murder him as soon as their friend was out of earshot.
He deserved it. He was ready for it.
He did not expect “someone” to be Gamora’s sister.
Nebula was on Quill the moment Rocket had left, punching him square in the jaw with a metal fist. Drax and Groot both stepped forward, ready to hold her back if she swung again. Mantis’ antennae glowed and she reached a hand towards her. Thor did absolutely nothing.
“Do not touch me,” Nebula warned Mantis. “I do not wish to be calm about this.” Mantis realized Nebula was going to stop at a single punch and complied; the fact that Quill was getting back up and was still able to talk was sign enough that she’d held back a little.
“Ow,” Quill said, groaning as he stood. “What the hell, Nebula? I thought you of all people would be with me on th-”
“Five years.”
Quill’s eyes widened. Mantis, Drax, and Groot all looked between each other with varying levels of surprise.
Before that moment, there had been a silent agreement among the Guardians that the victims of The Snap didn’t need to know and didn’t want to know exactly how much time they’d lost. Measurable time in Space was barely a thing to begin with, seeing how every culture had its own system and trying to keep everything on a single calendar was a fruitless chore they’d long since abandoned in favor of pretending it was somebody’s birthday whenever the team felt like it’d been long enough and wanted something to get merrily plastered over. Quantifying just how long most of the Guardians had been “sleeping” seemed so pointless and depressing.
Until Nebula, with wisdom she usually kept under a cloak of violence, realized it meant absolutely everything.
“For five years,” Nebula continued, “he played your same paltry collection of music every day. Like clockwork. He’d tell me which song was each of your favorites whenever it started playing as if he’d never mentioned it before. For five years, in every free moment, he shared stories about every little thing all of you did together from idiotic space adventures to the tree learning how to walk to pointless verbal exchanges he found amusing. For five years, he complained about how hard such a large vessel was to maintain but protested violently at the mere suggestion of trading it for something befitting two people. For five years I pretended I didn’t hear him crying himself to sleep on the occasional night he tried to rest and for five years I pretended I believed him when he insisted he wasn’t having horrific nightmares.”
“He never got over it, not even once, and when he realized there was the smallest hope that he might regain even a fraction of what he lost he was ready to die, not because of any sort of altruism but because dying for the only people who ever loved him sounded better than spending another second alone with his thoughts and single companion who never had the words to help him with his grief in the slightest.”
She grabbed Peter by the collar. Nobody, including Quill, moved to stop her.
“Five. Years. And you have the absolute unshackled insolence to ask him if he cares about his family?”
She put him down and returned to her seat on the bridge without another word but kept an aura of animosity. He’d rather she just punched him again.
It took Quill several minutes to break out of his guilt-driven daze. When he did, Thor seemed to be examining Stormbreaker in a new light. Drax and Mantis has resumed their earlier conversation with less vigor and much more whispering. Sometime during Nebula’s tirade, Groot had left the bridge altogether. Quill wanted out of the crushing silence and hesitantly started the Zune back up.
“Southern Nights, have you ever felt a-”
He shut the Zune back off.
A Formula, A Phrase Remains (4/7)
Title: A Formula, A Phrase Remains (4/7)
Rating: T
Word count: 3719
Warnings: None
Summary: Endgame spoilers. Wanda Maximoff has known so much grief in her life that it moves with her like a second skin. But she is a survivor. Moving on is what she does. So she tries to put the latest tragedy behind her by putting all her focus into Avenging and forming a new family for herself.
Meanwhile, Princess Shuri is gathering her own team to bring back someone who was lost far too soon.
Available from the beginning here.
A/N: Thanks to everyone who has read, left kudos, and/or commented. I really appreciate it. This chapter has a little bit of fluff because I can’t help myself, and also some angst and a new development in the quest to bring Vision back.
Disclaimer: I’m including some characters in this chapter that I’m not really familiar with beyond a little bit of research; that’s why they’re not in it for very long.
“Wake up, Wanda. It’s time to leave now.”
“Don’t wanna go,” she mumbled into her pillow.
“Neither do I, but we have no choice, unfortunately.” A gentle hand nudged her shoulder. She only burrowed more deeply into the pillow. The hand moved across her back rubbing soothing circles there. “What if I offered you the proper incentive?”
“There’s nothing you can offer me to make me leave this bed.”
A deep chuckle was his only response. She finally rolled over to look at him. Vision looked at her with fond amusement, with just the spark of a challenge in his eyes. “I believe I can think of something.” Vision reached for her and drew her into a kiss. At first his lips just barely skimmed Wanda’s before he deepened the kiss. She started to wrap her arms around him when he phased away from her.
“Vizh!” He grinned down at her from where he was now standing at the edge of the bed. “That was a mean trick. You really can’t convince me to get up now.”
“My apologies.” She rolled her eyes at his unrepentant tone. He regarded her with faux thoughtfulness. “Perhaps I have to take matters into my own hands.” The next thing Wanda knew Vision had scooped her up in his arms. Her arms automatically went around his neck.
“You didn’t take matters into your hands. You took me into your hands.” She tried to maintain a put-upon expression as he carried her into the bathroom, but she couldn’t resist cuddling closer to him.
Vision grinned more widely. “Well, you are what matters most to me, so I believe it works out to the same idea.” He chuckled again, clearly impressed by his joke. She shook her head at him, but pulled him into a kiss.
Wanda stretched out her arm only to run into her bedside lamp. She sighed as she sat up in her narrow twin bed. The others had teased her for her choice when they started setting up the mansion, but they stopped when she quietly admitted that she didn’t want to wake up reaching across a larger bed to find it empty.
She recognized when she wouldn’t be able to fall back to sleep. She walked downstairs into the kitchen and found Bucky also awake. The red light of the clock on the microwave glared at them, announcing that it was 3:38 am. He nodded at her. “Nightmare?”
She shook her head. “No, good dream this time. You?”
“Yeah.” He looked away from her, peering out the window, even though it was too dark to see anything. “The good ones can be worse.”
There was nothing much to say to that. She put the tea kettle on to give her hands any way to keep busy. “Want to talk about it?” She had to at least ask, though Bucky didn’t seem to be in the mood tonight.
He finally looked back at her. “No. You?” Wanda shook her head again. This was how their middle of the night conversations usually went. Neither of them typically cared to discuss their dreams, but as she had found when Vision sat with her after her brother’s death, sometimes it was nice just to have company. Someone who understood insomnia at their core. The very thought sent a pang straight through Wanda’s heart, but Wanda swallowed her tears. She refused to be ruled by her grief forever.
The room gradually lightened around them as they remained in companionable silence until it was time to get ready for their morning run. Wanda was grateful for the opportunity to move, to focus purely on putting one foot in front of the other, to be pushed to her physical limits. Today was sprints, and Carol always set a brutal pace. Wanda leaned into the brief forgetfulness.
There were many groans as the team climbed the stairs to their bedrooms after their session finished. Wanda relished the feeling of the hot water raining down on her sore muscles.
Wanda examined herself in the mirror after wiping the steam from it. She continued running a towel through her newly redyed brown hair. She had kept the red for a while, in memory of Nat and the happy times she had had rendezvousing with Vision. But no hair color could bring back her loved ones, and in the end, it felt right to go dark again. She swept her hair over her shoulder to get a better look at her face.
Dark circles stood out underneath her eyes, and her face was still thinner than was probably ideal. All her determination to move on could not grant her easy sleep or a healthy appetite. Her insomnia was worse than ever. Every moment spent awake in the middle of the night reminded her that the people who usually comforted her were gone. She was always grateful for her new team, but she missed Natasha’s matter-of-fact willingness to destroy her in training to take her mind off things and Steve’s steadfast, comforting presence. She avoided even a thought of Vision as much as possible. There was always Sam, who had said his door was always open, but he had enough troubles co-leading the team with Carol.
Wanda shook her head. There was nothing to be done about her losses, but she could get dressed and make herself a sandwich. When she finally emerged from her room, she found Carol walking toward her. “Good. You’re done. Tony’s lawyers are here. They want to go over the bequests from Tony’s will.”
Wanda took a moment to process the words, blinking at her. She would have assumed Tony Stark’s estate was long settled, but she supposed with the ongoing chaos even Stark’s influence and wealth could not make the system move faster. “I’ll pass. I’m sure he didn’t leave me anything.”
Carol shrugged. “They specifically requested you.”
“Fine.” She followed Carol down to one of the larger sitting rooms on the first floor. The remaining Avengers were seated while several men and women in immaculate suits stood in front of them.
The lawyers described Tony’s final wishes. There was the trust fund set up to help fund the Avengers for the foreseeable future, various gear that Tony had been designing for each member, and a number of small trinkets bestowed on Thor, who had come in specially with the Guardians for the full team training using Stormbreaker, and Rhodes. By the end of the meeting, there was only a small box left on the table in front of the lawyers. The one who had been explaining each gift said, “This is for Wanda Maximoff.”
The lawyer tentatively handed her a box and a key, attempting an ingratiating smile in Wanda’s direction. She only nodded politely at him. The box contained flash drives and a pile of papers with incomprehensible scribblings. One piece of bright red paper stuck out. She read the contents with growing dread and hope.
Maximoff,
I’d bet my new house that you won’t expect anything from my will, in the event I don’t give this to you myself. I know we never got along and never got a chance to mend fences. Maybe we were never going to, but Vision finally convinced me that it was worth trying.
That’s the real reason I’m giving this to you. I’m sorry we never managed to put him back together. First, we were afraid of failure, and then we were selfish, too caught up in our own lives and our own problems. The world’s been a mess. You’ll have a hard time believing how much. Its nothing more than an excuse, but it’s all I have to say for myself. I was more aware of how human Vision had become than almost anyone else. I should have pushed Bruce harder to try again.
When Morgan was born, I realized how unfair I had been to Vision. At the time, I was still too focused on how he wasn’t JARVIS anymore. I didn’t appreciate all he had become until he started running away with you. By then, it felt too late to form the kind of bond we could have had.
I hope these notes go some way to making up for the past. They’re everything I know about creating JARVIS and Ultron. All the notes I made when we created Vision the first time. I also included some new ideas on how nanotechnology might be helpful in the process of repairing him. If you’re reading this, hopefully that means we won and someone can help you put this into practice. As of this writing, Vision’s body was still in Wakanda. They agreed to hold it in case the princess ever returned. She’s your best chance if I’m gone.
I wish you and Vision the best of luck. There’s another letter addressed to him at the bottom of this box if you’re able to revive him.
Well, I’ve used up my supply of sentimentality for the month. Just remember, if you and loverboy manage to have a little bundle of joy of your own, you’re obligated to name him, or her, after me. Tony or Toni works equally well.
You know who I am.
Tears were streaming down her face by the time she finished. She’d never have imagined that Tony Stark would make her cry with anything other than tears of rage. The others were all politely looking away from her while Carol handed her a tissue. With a few closing remarks, the lawyers left the room, evidently glad to have completed their task.
She just wished that she would have received this months ago, when she still had some hope that Shuri could revive Vision. The princess had told her that they had tried everything. She offered to hold him in the same room indefinitely, in case some new breakthrough came along, but Wanda declined. With everything that made Vision Vision gone and the smartest woman in the world out of ideas, she did not see the point in maintaining the charade.
She’d asked Shuri to give him a proper ceremony and let him rest in peace, and Shuri had promised she would. Still, she could at least show the notes to the princess. Wanda knew she was coming to New York tomorrow.
***
The first training session with the full team provided a welcome change of pace. Wanda loved when everyone came together, offering new tips and training styles that she didn’t often get to utilize. In the background, she saw T’Challa facing Peter Parker in hand-to-hand combat. She made a note to get some pointers later; she always admired his grace and strength. She didn’t have much more time to muse as she fended off Okoye’s staff with her own. The weapon felt clumsy in her hands, but the one rule for days such as these was that the powered needed to rely on more mundane skills, so as not to receive an unfair advantage in the fight to remain standing. The first fall meant you were out for good.
Wanda spun around only to meet Nebula’s batons. The blue woman’s blow hit at just the right angle and speed to push the staff from Wanda’s hands. She was forced to drop into a crouch to avoid Nebula’s next attack. As Wanda fluidly rose to her feet again, thanking Sam’s insistence on incorporating a bit of flexibility work into her training, she did manage to sweep her foot behind Nebula’s legs, dropping her to the ground. Nebula snarled at her, but the expression lacked any real malice.
In the free for all, Wanda quickly moved onto the next target. There was always a healthy reward for the last one standing. Hope had already dispatched Scott, who was good-naturedly cheering others on from the sidelines. Wanda had had to look away when she also tenderly helped him to his feet. Peter Quill, Bucky, Mantis, Peter Parker, Stephen, and T’Challa were out too. At the far side of the gym, Okoye suddenly brought down Valkyrie. Rhodes and Sam were fighting hand to hand. Carol was fighting Thor, their powers difficult to turn off but not using their full strength.
By the time ten more minutes had passed, Thor and Sam were also relegated to the sidelines. It was down to Okoye, Hope, Rhodes, Wanda, and Carol. Okoye and Hope were already facing off, Hope dodging nimbly away from Okoye’s staff, trying to tire her out. Carol was surveying their fight, presumably strategizing on who she would rather challenge. That left Wanda and Rhodes. Wanda approached him slowly. She and Rhodes maintained a cordial working relationship, but they had never been that close even before the break in the Avengers. His connection with Stark too prominent, no matter how unfair that may have been, as she had come to appreciate his much-needed common sense and ever-present sarcasm. Rhodes appeared to experience a similar hesitation.
But this was war. Wanda picked up a fallen staff to match the one in Rhodes’s hands. They gave each other a few experimental parries, testing and backing off. After a few minutes of that, Rhodes landed a solid blow on Wanda’s back, but she didn’t fall. She managed her own hit on his side. Out of the corner of her eye, Wanda saw Carol and Okoye teaming up against Hope. She was soon down. Carol and Okoye immediately turned to face each other.
Rhodes took advantage of Wanda’s distraction with another strike to her legs. Wanda brought her attention back to the moment, but it was too late. Rhodes knocked her down easily, hand-to-hand combat still not her greatest strength. She accepted his hand up with a grateful nod and went to join the others. Several minutes later, Carol sat next to her, leaving only Okoye and Rhodes.
The crowd grew absorbed in watching them fight. They were both fiercely competitive and felt honor-bound to represent Wakanda and the United States Air Force admirably. They danced and dodged around each other, barely making contact. After several long minutes, Okoye finally began to advance on Rhodes in earnest. Her staff was almost moving fast enough to blur before their eyes. She was preparing a final strike when Rhodes backed away just enough to cause her to overbalance.
Okoye was on her feet again before Rhodes could react. “Well done, Colonel.” Okoye’s congratulations were sincere, but she already appeared to be calculating her next attack. “It will not happen again.”
Rhodes nodded at her, one officer to another. “I wouldn’t expect it to, General.”
With a final round of congratulations all around, the sparring broke up and everyone went their separate ways before the next session.
***
Wanda hid behind a couch with Bucky and Sam as Stephen turned off the lights while they waited for Carol. Hope had offered to take her out while they decorated and prepared the food. They all remained very quiet when the front door opened. Hope asked to sit in the lounge. Their footsteps grew closer, and Carol turned on the lights. They all jumped up, shouting “Happy birthday!” and blowing kazoos.
Carol glared at them before grinning wildly. “You got me.” Finally, Maria stepped out from the corner of the room. Carol shrieked and ran toward her. They embraced and kissed each other passionately, heedless of the others in the room.
They only broke apart when Monica came up and tapped Carol on the shoulder. “Hey, Auntie Carol.”
Carol turned, leaving one arm around Maria and pulling Monica in with her free arm. “You’ve been gone too long, Lieutenant Trouble.”
“Someone has to pick up the slack with you being down here.” Monica had taken up Carol’s cosmic responsibilities when she had decided to stay on Earth for a time to help the Avengers regroup. After absorbing the energy of the Snap, she wanted to do her part in following in Carol’s footsteps. She was finally fulfilling her dream of glowing and flying. It was a source of endless teasing between them.
With the reunions out of the way, the party really got going. Everyone loaded up their plates with food and mingled among those they rarely got to see. Someone set up some music, and there was arguing as they fought for which genre to be played, eventually settling on shuffle.
Later in the night, Wanda approached Shuri, Bruce, and Helen, whose heads were bent close together. They looked up at the sound of her footsteps, jumping slightly. “Nice to see you all. How’s your project going?” She knew Shuri, Helen, and Bruce had been working closely together for more than a year, but she never was able to get any details from them.
Shuri looked unaccountably nervous. “There have been some promising new developments, but it is not complete yet.”
“That’s good to hear.” Wanda could not understand why the three scientists were glancing back and forth at each other, but she ignored the vague unease in the back of her mind in favor of doing what she set out to do. “Shuri, may I speak to you in private for a minute.”
Shuri nodded. Wanda led her to a quiet corner, moving past Sam who dancing smoothly in the middle of the room and trying to draw in as many others as he could. Meanwhile, Mantis and Nebula were talking to Bucky in the opposite corner while Valkyrie and Thor were reminiscing amid a drinking contest. Wanda decided to simply go for it. “It’s about Vision.”
“What would you like to discuss about him?”
“Yesterday, Stark’s lawyers gave us the gifts that we received in his will. He gave me all his notes from when he and Bruce created Vision the first time. He said he had some new ideas too.” Wanda’s voice began to fail her. “I know you said there was nothing to be done, but could you give it one more look?”
“Of course, Wanda. I am happy to try again.” There was an odd light in Shuri’s eyes, but Wanda didn’t question it. She could not afford to get her hopes up after all this time.
“Thank you. Come by my room before you leave, and I will have the things for you.”
They rejoined the party. Sam pulled Wanda into a dance. She was not in the mood, but Sam’s enthusiasm was infectious. Wanda soon found herself getting absorbed in the beat, dancing loosely with Sam, Carol, Maria, Bucky, and Peter Quill. There was much laughter to go around.
The party carried on late into the night. Everyone grew looser and more eager as the music shifted among the various tastes within the mansion. It wasn’t until Stephen insisted that everyone needed to get to bed in order to be ready for another full day of training that the giggling masses moved upstairs to their bedrooms.
***
A few days later, Wanda entered the kitchen to find Cassie Lang, who was visiting with Scott and Hope, eating a cookie. “Hello, Cassie.”
Cassie’s face broke into a beaming smile when she saw Wanda. “Hi!” Cassie’s enthusiasm always warmed her, who also enjoyed seeing the girl. Scott had once told her that she was Cassie’s favorite Avenger, and Wanda could never forget that Cassie liked her when the rest of the world didn’t.
“Enjoying your stay here?”
“Oh, yeah. Do you think you could put in a good word for me? I want to train to be an Avenger. I keep telling my dad and mom and Jim that I’m ready, but they won’t listen.” Cassie had discovered that she now had the ability to grow and shrink like Scott after the second Snap. It had occurred just as she was handling some spare Pym particles that Scott had left behind in his wagon of possessions. Scott and the rest of the Avengers had been trying to help Cassie handle her new powers without becoming a member of the team.
Wanda had been on Cassie’s side of this conversation too often when she first joined the team not have sympathy for her position. Cassie was not a child, and it was galling to be treated as one when you weren’t. But she’d also had enough talks with Scott on the other side of the equation and enough experience with growing up too young to believe that she should appreciate her childhood.
“Cassie, I’d be happy to help train you, but you have all the time in the world to be an Avenger. You’re sixteen. You have a few more years to enjoy yourself before you have to worry about saving the world. Besides,” she leaned in confidentially across the counter, “you’d also have to convince Sam and Carol, and they’re not that easy.”
Cassie frowned at her response, but quickly recovered. “Could you teach me how to throw away that tank like you did a few weeks ago?”
Wanda sent the girl a mock glare. “That was supposed to be top secret.” A warlord had gathered an army and a number of stolen weapons and was marching on a much smaller neighbor when the Avengers were called in. She and Carol had each dispatched one of the tanks while the others had focused on negotiating with the leadership. Wanda was proud of their operation resulting in not a single shot being fired. It was the first time Wanda’s full powers had been drawn on since the final battle against Thanos. It had been both exhilarating and terrifying in a way. She was still not fully recovered from the strain. But they had tried to hush the whole thing up as much as possible to prevent further destabilization in the region.
“Sorry,” she said, not sounding particularly apologetic, “I begged my dad to tell me about the latest mission.”
“Well, it was pretty awesome.” Wanda grinned at her, and Cassie giggled. “Just don’t tell all your friends at school.”
“I won’t.” Cassie paused for a minute and looked at her hopefully. “But since I already know will you tell me more?”
Wanda was easily convinced, glad to have someone she could share stories with who didn’t already know everything. “Sure, let’s go to the library. I’ll tell you all about it.” Cassie bounced on her toes and followed Wanda eagerly.
 A/N: It seems to me like the energy pulse they mentioned several times in Endgame is a good way to introduce other enhanced individuals, so I used it as the method of both Monica and Cassie gaining their powers.
I am under the impression that Thor can now summon the Bifrost, and that is how he brought the Guardians to Earth quickly and easily.
Also, I imagine the hand to hand sparring could go a number of different ways, particularly if the enhanced were focused on not using their powers, so I just picked one outcome.
Finally, I forgot to mention this earlier, but if any part of the story is ever unclear or confusing, please feel free to ask what is going on, and I will be happy to answer/make edits to the chapter. I have a lot of ideas built up in my head that I may sometimes forget to actually convey on the page.
Out on the Town (Part 10)
A/N: I just have a lot of Thor feelings. Most of them make me want to give him tea and cookies then shag his brains out
Thor goes back to Asgard to tell his family that 1.) He is marrying you and 2.) You are expecting his child and cannot travel so far, and the wedding will be on Earth. Frigga is overjoyed, she’s waited a long time to be a Grandmother. Odin is less than impressed but is mollified somewhat when he learns that this Midgardian is not a mere mortal but one of the Sidhe. A powerful Sidhe at that.
Back on Earth, the Avengers are already getting themselves psyched up to be good Aunts and Uncles to this baby when it arrives. Everyone takes their promise to look after you seriously. You can’t go anywhere without someone trying to get you to eat something, drink water, or reminding you to take your vitamins. It’s heartwarming even if it is frustrating. Nat is relentlessly teasing you for your constant cravings for spicy food that subsequently leave you with near persistent heartburn. So much so that there are antacids in almost every room you frequent. Steve drags you out of your lab at least once a day for a decent walk. Bruce won’t let you near his lab on the off chance anything he’s doing might hurt the baby, and so he shifts his focus from making technology with magic to learning how to defend against magic with you showing him years of theories so you can do things in your workshop instead. Sam and Bucky are kind of... lost about the whole thing but you haven’t had to carry a box of files to your lab since the picnic. Tony is Tony. Already planning weird baby gadgets and relentlessly insistent that you have to be expecting twins and not just one child. You protest that it’s only been 12 weeks and Nat gently pokes the belly that’s rounding out and getting harder to hide under your blouses, “Yes, but you are tiny and we,” she said gesturing vaguely at everyone, “Are going to need time to adjust.” Clint, who’s got Children of his own, is the most sympathetic. He knows you’re fatigued and overwhelmed with all the planning you suddenly have to do just tries to help you do it, help you figure out how to get it all done and gently reminds you that you do have time even though all your instincts and hormones insist that you don’t.
When Thor returns, his Mother in tow, she pulls you into a hug, kissing your cheek, “You look lovely,” she said, stepping back. It’s only 13 weeks, and you’ve already given up on jeans, swapping those for leggings and your tailored blouses for tunic length shirts just for comfort’s sake. Thor introduces his Mother, who really just came for a couple days to see you and make sure her son was behaving. Thor pulled you aside and kissed you tenderly, “How do you feel?” he asked, trying to keep the worry from his tone. “Tired,” you say smiling a little, “But the doctors say all is as it should be, though they say this is going to be a big baby. 13 weeks but measuring what they should at 15 or 16 weeks.” Thor kisses your nose and chuckles, “Have you eaten yet?” he asked, “Gotten any rest?” You nod, “They’ve all been making sure I’ve not worked too hard.” Frigga smiles and watches her son, satisfied at the worry in his face smoothing out and the tenderness in how he touches you. She’d much rather see a child born of love and out of wedlock than in wedlock and out of obligation. The next two days, Frigga spends time with you in your workshop, getting to know you. She likes what she learns. You’re intelligent, hardworking, loyal, and very brave. An excellent Queen, though you’ll have to learn court manners. Thor behaves himself while his mother is visiting and doesn’t touch you beyond chaste kisses and backrubs. You already ache for him and being near him but unable to feel him the way you want is driving you mad.
It takes ages for him to return. And when he does, he walks straight to your workshop, weeping onto your shoulder, clinging to you as if you’ll just disappear if he doesn’t. “Thor, sweetheart, what is it?” you ask, trying to give him comfort, settling him in the comfortable chair that Clint had moved to your workshop so you could put your feet up and still get work done. You set him there, and he pulls you into his lap, burying his face in your neck, explaining everything. Dark elves, Loki, having to save Jane Foster from herself, and the Death of his mother. You take it all in, letting him tell you everything and just hold him. Your heart breaks for him, but you don’t know what else to do besides be there and give him the support he had once given to you when your own heart had felt irreparably shattered. Thor runs out of tears to cry and just clings to you, a strong hand resting on your stomach. The life inside you is stronger, and that brings him some comfort. You are here and real, and this child is going to be beautiful because they’re going to have your dazzling eyes and his hair and your heart. His grief is palpable, and you do everything you can to soothe him, letting him lose his pain in pleasure with you however he can, even if it means merely sitting in the commons with your feet in his lap while you read a book and Bucky tries to teach him about football.
Thor has precious time to grieve though, the battle with Ultron erupts so quickly that the team very nearly falls apart altogether. In the campaign, a city in the sky with terrified civilians trapped and your team outgunned you make a choice. A choice to run headlong into the fray and do your damnedest to get them all home safely. Thor is furious with you, demanding you stop. Demanding you run, hide, and protect the little life inside you. It’s the first time you ever shout at him. You yell at him that if you don’t help them there, it isn’t going to matter because there won’t be a baby to protect because she’ll be dead along with the rest of the world. Thor hangs his head a moment but kisses you and lets you go. He knows that he’s right and he knows that at this moment if you were to pick up his hammer, you would be worthy. He loses sight of you shortly after that and prays to Valhalla you come back to him safely.
You do not. You fought well and bravely, saving nearly everyone at least once but as Steve carries you off the battlefield in his arms. The god hits his knees, openly weeping as he takes you from him pleading for you to just open your eyes. You’re barely breathing, and Clint has to force him to let go of you so medical can save your life. You kept your team, but the child is lost. Thor holds you as you cry, shedding tears himself. He wants to be angry. He wants to say he warned you, but he knew. He knew there was no way you could ever just sit at home and let the others fight without you. You were a Valkyrie by nature if not birth. Thor leaves you with the Avengers again and Goes home to check on Asgard.
He faces Hela and the Grandmaster. He sees the fall of Asgard. And he faces it all not knowing if you live or die on Midgard. He faces it all with your picture, his favorite one of you, next to his heart. Your hair is in what Nat had called “space buns” on your head, and you’re wearing his cardigan, an old t-shirt, some old jeans, and no shoes. A coffee mug cradled in your hands as you lean on the counter. You aren’t looking at the person taking the picture but smiling at someone, your head turned to look at them. He doesn’t know why he loves it so much. Probably because it’s candid. Because it just is you, warm and silly and loving. When he does return to Earth, Stormbreaker in hand, he almost doesn’t recognize you.
You are on the battlefield, hair long and loose, a white streak coming down from your part on the right side. You wear armor, and your sword and whip are in either hand. You look thin, so thin for a moment he worries for your health. But then he looks behind you, You’re leading an Army. The God of Thunder realizes that the Sidhe had brought you home, made you a princess and given you an army. The Blue tattoos that band your arms and legs glow and your eyes are black as you hack and slash your way through. Thor feels a pang in his chest that he did not get to see you crowned and pushes it aside quickly. He can make it up to you after the battle.
So he thinks. Until he fails to kill Thanos and you disintegrate in his arms. Even when he does kill Thanos, it doesn’t restore you, or his people, and he falls into a depression that he cannot shake. For the first time in his long life, he understood the depths of the despair you would have felt when you tried to take your own life at 11 years old. He wanted to die but, like any coward, he reflected, he did not have the will to do it himself.  Valkyrie, Bruce, Korg... They tried to look after him, but without you, he couldn’t seem to pull himself together. You were his guiding star. He tried to drown his sorrows, but reminders of you snuck in at every turn. Coffee made him think of sleepy good morning kisses, Roses made his heart ache so bad he thought it would stop beating, the changing colors in the sky were your eyes.
Always your eyes. He couldn’t bear it. Natasha had tried once to get him to join her, and when that failed, she’d brought him pictures of you. “Things to remember Y/N by,” she said. It had taken all his self-control to let Valkyrie take them from him to prevent him from burning them. Gods. You were supposed to be here. To be HIS. His queen. To help him and help his people make sense of all this. The pain and Loss. In a way, he was thankful you were gone and couldn’t see what he had done to himself, the way he let himself go.
When Banner drags him from his New Asgard and marches him into Stark Tower once again, the memories slam into his chest. You haunt this building for him, and the pain is so intense he almost turns to run. Then he remembers, you are not a being of pure joy. Your moments of Joy are fought for. Your happiness is borne of knowing what it means to be so hopeless you can’t go forward. Your joy is helping to mend what’s been broken, and this is his chance. A chance to do something to make you proud. To be worthy of you, after all. When they pitch time travel, he can hear you, clear as a bell saying, “Fuckin’-a. Let’s do it.” And so he does. Seeing you from a distance in Asgard nearly kills him, bare feet and his cardigan looking so out of place. “That’s her, huh?” Rocket says. All Thor can do is a nod. Rocket eyes Thor and then looks back at you, “She’s a cutie,” he said, not bothering to elaborate and ask what Thor had done to attract her. Thor talks with his mother, retrieving the stone and his hammer, returning triumphant.
The team assembles the gauntlet and Bruce snaps. Thor has no time to consider anything else, whether or not it really worked because there is a battle coming. He almost doesn’t believe it when you step through the Portal with your army. You ride astride a gigantic white Stag with silver horns that reach towards the sky. A battle cry in your throat as you charge forward, sword in hand. He had no time to stare at you throwing himself into battle and making sure you did not see him. He did not want you to see him as he was now. He wanted you to remember the God you knew before. He catches sight of you from time to time, fierce and unstoppable as you move forward. Once fighting alongside many of the other ladies to protect young Peter Parker. It’s not until the end of the battle when he sees you with Clint that he realizes he can’t breathe looking at you. Even crying, dirty, and covered in blood, he just wants to kiss you. To feel you against him again after so long but he can’t seem to make himself move. Clint meets his eyes over your head and gives the god a bittersweet smile, about to gently turn you towards him when Rocket just shouts, “Hey, Elf! Does this belong to you?” You turn and when you see Thor, the world stops turning for a moment. Everything stops and there is nothing but This man. This king. You only register that he’s there, you hardly have time to even notice things that have changed about him as you fly into his arms. Tears are still running down your face and he can taste them on your lips as he crushes you to him to keep you from really seeing him. Thor is trembling under your hands and when you look up at him you see tears on his face too.
He cradles your cheek in his hand and wipes tears away, “Gods, woman.” he whispers, “I missed you.” You kiss him again, not caring that your arms can’t fit all the way around him anymore. He’s there and he’s real and not just a dream. Thor tries to pull away but you hold tight. “Y/N, my love,” he says, “I have been a fool and a coward. If I was not unworthy of you before, I am now.” You only smile at him, “You’re stuck with me, Thor. I spent 5 years longing for this. I spent 5 years waiting to have you near me. I won’t let you take yourself away.” Thor laughs, a booming sound and you let one hand rest on his belly as he crushes you to him, “Now take me home.” you demand gently, “I’m tired and you have a lot of stories to tell me.” Thor kisses the tattoos that band your fingers and smiles, “As you wish.” And with the others, he takes you home. Or at least to a hotel until the tower can be rebuilt
Some thoughts about Infinity War
Now that I slept over it and had some garlic tea to help with my cold, I think it’s time to talk about it.
Long post ahead. Contains spoilers. Don’t read in case you didn’t watch the movie.
After almost 10 years of MCU, I was surprised they kept their death score so low. I was wrong. It was a risky decision to make things like that and they are brave, let's see how it rolls from now on.
I wasn't surprised about any of this, really, because I was sure all of them would die. The fact that some of them happened to survive was a plus. I wasn't surprised about all the asgardians + some of the sakaarians + Heimdall + Loki (+ probably Valkyrie) dying right in front of Thor right in the beginning. The whole shock value was necessary to make Thanos stand up like a big unforgiving villain and they made it, he killed an entire population of space refugees that consisted of children, elderly people and non combatant, unarmed men and women. You can feel the whole cinema feels as powerless and impotent as Thor, hands tied both literally and figuratively.  Thumbs up for the Russos, thumbs up for emotional trauma and heartbreak and tense moments.
Cons
Loki
All along I thought he had a plan, maybe because that's what the fandom made me believe, less because of what we actually see on screen. Loki has always been a shitty planner and all his schemes blow up in his face. I believed he had a trick up his sleeve that Thor and the audience didn't know when he took the tesseract, which was a stupid ass decision. But he didn't, in the end there was nothing. I don't know, maybe he thought they'd have more time, but when Thanos asked him for the tesseract, and Thor told him they didn't have it, I could taste the regret that emanated out of Loki. He regrets it, he really does. And he died saving the most important person in his life, and I was angry and sad about how it all ended so soon.
They didn't give us what kind of deal Thanos had with Loki, how did they meet, how did it go, if Loki knew the Dark Order, nothing. It was bad writing, really, because Loki normally has double intentions. It was bad, predictable and it hurt to watch. I thought he was going to use the tesseract himself and manage to save the day but they all died anyway. I wanted Loki to help to kill Thanos, I thought he'd have a secret weapon in the end, or a secret way to destroy him that he learned from the time he spent with Thanos. Nada. I'm sad and disappointed, he didn't deserve it. He was doing everything right this time :(
 Romance
I'm not very fond of romance in hero movies, except in rare occasions where it's well done (Wonder Woman yay) and there was a lot of heteronormativity romantic scenes. I wanted to skip forward all of Wanda/Vision interactions and Gamora/Peter was too clingy imo. We could have saved some time without them.
 Thanos
Ok, I get it he's big and evil and purple. But he had a lot of time of just wondering and doing titan things. Wherever he showed up on screen I showed him the finger like the adult I am.
 The Dark Order
I don't know their names, I don't know their ambitions, they are just random people following orders. They aren't strong or extraordinary and they were easily subdued by our heroes.
 Bruce Banner/Hulk
He's still lost and confused, I get it, but he was exaggerated and borderline boring. Whenever he was on screen I'd roll my eyes. Where is the Hulk when we need him the most? Sounds to me he's only valiant against smaller thunder lords, uh.
 Captain America
Too little screen time, I only remember like 3 things he said, but it was good to have him back and some people cheered in the cinema when he first appeared to save Vision. I wish we had seen more of him, especially more of his interactions with Thor.
 Natasha
Same as Cap. Too little screen time. I love her I always like to see her.
 Red Skull
?? ???? ??????? That's all I'm saying.
 Thor's suicidal attempts
First when Loki died and Thor crawled to him to cradle him closer. I don't think Thor had the energy to leave and if he did, he wouldn't. This time he wasn't going to leave Loki behind and I think he decided the best thing to do was to die with his people and the last member of his family, all of them in a space coffin and none would know of what happened to the asgardians. Of course, he didn't die with the explosion like he intended and he had yet another chance when he tried to reignite the star. It was also sad to watch, how extreme he'd go and how little regard he has for himself and his well being. We have Thor telling Eitrit that he should have hope in a moment, the other moment he tries to get himself killed. Rocket and Eitrit were worried about it too and I don't think there's a solution to it. Thor will go is ready to kill or die or both and he won't stop.
 Pros
 Doctor Strange
He has his priorities sorted and he doesn't change them. He does what he must to save shit and I trust him because he knows what's up.
 Guardians of the Galaxy
It's amazing how they all sound like a big family, I really like them and I loved how they interacted with Thor. I'd like to see a version where they managed to get in time and help the asgardians. Drax telling that Thor is what happens when an angel and a pirate have a baby had me in tears. Peter jealous of Gamora, priceless.
 Thor
And here I go. It's no secret that Thor is my favorite. I always love Thor in every situation and in every movie he's in. In Infinity War he's hurt, he's broken, he's lost and hopeless but he still moves on and that's the kind of hope I need. All of his arc in Ragnarok was pointless. If Marvel was going to kill all the asgardians anyway, why make Thor save them?
Chris Hemsworth's acting is on point, he made the most of every scene as usual. All the emotion on his eyes when he saw Loki/Heimdall dying was enough to have me crying with him, like I was on his place. He has gone through so much and his suicidal attempts just prove that he finally had enough. Marvel finally gave him an opportunity to talk about his family and he talked with Rocket of all the people (creature). It was a gift to have Thor so wounded yet so woke. He knows what he has to do and how to do it and he'll do it even if it kills him because he has nothing left to lose. It hurts, but that's that kind of energy that have things going.
Thor takes the Guardian's supplies and he's ready to steal their ship and they decide to go along, because, come on, what else can they do? Call the police against the asgardian? But Thor knows how to use his words and he convinces them to go with him and help him. More than his good looks, it's good intentions and sincerity.
When he learned about Gamora's family he instantly regarded her as a friend, he knows she's not the one to blame about the mistakes of her Father, and he knows about it all too well.
 Stormbreaker
Thor's whole self-discover journey in Ragnarok taught him that he didn't need a hammer to be powerful, the power was in him all along. Infinity War took it and threw it in the trash. The moment Thor thinks of a plan he thinks of forging a new weapon. Thor in Ragnarok knew he didn't need a weapon. Thor in Infinity War almost died to get a new shiny bigger hammer. I think the idea of it was to make an axe to fight the Gauntlet, and I will only accept it this way. And Thor looks good with an axe.
 Gamora
OMG Why? I wasn't expecting for this at all, neither was she it seems. I didn't like it how they made it sound like that what Thanos felt for her was love, when I doubt that he can love anything. He tries to convince her to come along, he uses Nebula to convince her (and ouch, poor Nebula) but Gamora is strong in her views and beliefs. She's rather die than help him. Little did she know that her death would always help him, whether she liked it or not.
 Wakanda
Poor wakandans didn't deserve any of this, to have this battle on their yard. When Thor did THAT, when he showed up with his new weapon to help them, lightening on his eyes and everything, people in cinema cheered. They cheered again when he wounded Thanos and I know he'll try again and again until he get it. Or die, more likely.
It was pretty obvious to the audience that Thor is by far the most powerful avenger, sided with Wanda, and he'll only grow stronger and more powerful out of spite and hate, those are great fuels. I still wanted Thor to greet T'Challa and to have them recognizing each other like the Kings they are.
 Girl power
When Wanda was fighting Proxima and we all thought the was about to die, Natasha and Okoye came to the rescue and I was so proud and so happy to see them together, like sisters, helping Wanda who is a still so young but so powerful and so full of pain. It was also one of the best interactions.
 After this long essay, I'll say the movie had it's good parts and it's bad parts, like everything in life. I didn't like the ending but I wasn't exactly shocked. I think there's still so much to happen, I think there are so many people to return and all we can do is wait and create new content to fix what we didn't like and improve what we liked. That's what I'll do. If I learned something with this movie, is that I should always be positive. Like Thor. The sun will shine upon us again.
help, I lost myself again (but I remember you)
It was so hard, that she found herself grabbing her ballet shoes again. Something she hadn’t done in years. She cried. Natasha cried so much that she didn’t remember how it felt to have a clean face, and the green of her eyes always had a little bit of red in them.
She was tired. She needed to get out of the compound. She needed a friend who could understand her.
or
five times Natasha visited the Avengers during the five-year gap, and one time they visited her.
chapter one || chapter two
--
CHAPTER ONE
THOR
Natasha had never been very close to Thor, but she had a soft spot for him, like she did for all her teammates. Thor was sweet and powerful and above all, he respected her. He didn’t care that she was a spy and an assassin, for god’s sake, he used to enjoy the war. Probably because he always won it. So, Natasha liked Thor.
After the war, he was different. All the Avengers were, in their own ways. They were all grieving, mourning their friends and their people. Half the universe was obliterated because they couldn’t stop Thanos. This wasn’t one of those times where they blamed themselves and the other person would appear and give them a pat on the shoulder and say, “this is not your fault, you did everything you could”. This time they looked at their teammates, avoiding each other’ gazes, guilt clear on their faces, and they didn’t do anything about it. The universe was lost, and they were the ones who were supposed to fight for it. The universe was lost, and it was their fault. And they knew it.
But while the other Avengers were crying on each other’s shoulders, Thor completely shut down. He followed them everywhere and then sat on the nearest bench, immersed in his thoughts but quietly watching them. Natasha ignored him, she knew he was pissed. She was too. They all were.
When he finally killed the titan, Natasha had expected Thor to say something else, but no. She could see it on his face; he was shocked but at the same time he was satisfied. Then he turned his back to them and walked away, climbing down the stairs slowly and heavily, like he was carrying a weight that he couldn’t endure. She followed him shortly after, leaving the others behind while they searched one last time for the stones, ignoring Nebula’s warnings that they weren’t there. Nat couldn’t blame them, they were trying to hold onto the tiny spark of hope they still had inside.
She found him standing near the ship, his back turned to Thanos’ cabin and looking at the sky with an expression Natasha couldn’t read on his face.
“Thor?” she asked.
“I killed him.” He said after a long pause, still not gazing away from the alien sky. Natasha figured he wasn’t looking at anything, he had just found a point to fixate and organize his thoughts.
“That you did.” She said, looking straight at the back of his head, waiting for him to turn.
“I don’t regret it.”
“Of course you don’t.” he finally turned, and she smirked up at him.
“You seem very calm about this.”
“Trust me, I’m not. Just trying to make you calm, is it working?”
“I am calm.” His face was pure stone. She was tired of not being able to read him.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course!” he said, but his voice broke and his brow furrowed, denying his previous statement. He was clearly trying to convince himself, and who was she to try to take down his walls? He cleared his throat and kept talking before she could say anything. “I need to go find a home for my people. If you find anything about the stones feel free to appear and tell me, I trust you will know where to find me. If you don’t, please tell everyone I don’t want visits.
And then he pointed the Stormbreaker forward and flew out of the alien planet that would haunt Natasha’s nightmares forever.
--
Technically, Thor didn’t say she couldn’t visit him even if she didn’t have more information on the stones, and Natasha couldn’t stop thinking about it. Which was stupid, because Natasha never cared if she was crossing the line when it came to her friends’ private life, but this time it was different. They all needed their time to heal from the war and mentalize what they had lost, but for the first time in her life, Nat was feeling lonely. Maybe not the first time, she was lonely all the time but for once she didn’t want to be. It had been months since Thanos attacked, and Natasha had been alone at the compound since, and in all that time she hadn’t heard a word from her teammates.
Natasha kept telling herself that she didn’t mind. She hadn’t cared about being alone her whole life, so why would she start now?
Apparently, it wasn’t that easy.
It was so hard, that she found herself grabbing her ballet shoes again. Something she hadn’t done in years. She cried. Natasha cried so much that she didn’t remember how it felt to have a clean face, and the green of her eyes always had a little bit of red in them.
She was tired. She needed to get out of the compound. She needed a friend who could understand her. And surprisingly, the first person who came to her mind wasn’t Steve, or Clint, both of whom had been missing since the day of the snap, it was Thor. She didn’t even know why, probably because he had been the one to deal with his grief the same way she used to. Hiding his emotions and mourn with a closed face, secretly blaming himself for everything.
So, she went to Norway.
New Asgard was…in few words, depressing. Not the place, per se, but the way these people changed from palaces of gold and large fields of wonder to a small village of fishers. It was also cold, but Natasha didn’t really care. It wasn’t colder than the red room.
She was met by a young woman with long dark curly hair, she seemed cautious.
“You’re not from here, are you?” she asked, sounding more protective than rude.
“No, I’m here to see Thor.”
“He won’t see you, he doesn’t get visits from anyone.” Her voice was loud, so it could be heard above the wind but still calm and confident, she wasn’t afraid of Natasha, and she liked than.
“I didn’t come all this way for nothing, please let me see him.”
“You’re one of his friends from his old team, aren’t you?” she raised her eyebrows in question, and Natasha understood that the woman wouldn’t let her do anything if she didn’t get the answers she wanted.
“My name is Natasha. I’ve been dealing with the aftermath of what Thanos did from the Avengers Headquarters, I just wanted to see how he is doing.”
The woman stared right at her. Neither of them let their gaze fall and then she finally sighed and took a step back.
“Very well. Come with me.”
They started walking together, Natasha tried to enjoy the smell of the ocean and the feeling of the fresh wind she hadn’t felt in years, but for some reason she was nervous. Lately, she was always nervous, always alert, waiting for another decimation. She tried to break the heavy silence that was settling between them.
“What’s your name?” She asked, and the woman looked at her strangely out of the corner of her eye. She answered after a long and flat silence, like she wasn’t sure what her name was herself.
“Valkyrie.”
Natasha furrowed her brow.
“I thought the Valkyries were an elite of women, not just a name.”
“Well, as you can see, things are very different around here, so if you are going to call me by anything, that will be Valkyrie.”
None of them said anything else until they reached a cabin, Valkyrie opened the door for her and then started walking back.
“You know,” Natasha said, before she could stop herself, “my name isn’t Natasha either. I guess we get to choose who we are after all.”
Valkyrie smirked, then nodded. And Natasha was happy to finally find someone who understood.
She entered the small house carefully, hearing muffled voices. It seemed like Thor did get visits after all. But those visits weren’t human, and Natasha wasn’t even surprised anymore, not after the talking racoon. What really surprised her was that Thor was laughing. The god sat on a chair with one hand holding a beer and the other resting on his belly, his hair and beard were longer and unwashed and short, wet laughs slipped between his lips. He was miserable.
“Thor.” She called, and suddenly he stopped laughing, a shadow crossed his face, and then he was laughing again and getting up to pull Natasha against him for a one-armed hug. “Oh my god, Thor you are so drunk.”
Under all the sadness, alcohol and dirt, Thor seemed genuinely happy to see her, and that was more than enough for her.
She was happy to see him too.
In which Sparty finally jots down her thoughts on Avengers: Endgame.  Spoiler free TL:DR: I liked it overall, but have some caveats.  Long read, spoilers below.
ENDGAME THOUGHTS
THE GOOD:
Well used fandom in-jokes. E.G. Cap checking out his own ass (“That IS Americas ass”).
Scott Lang in general.
Tony Stark being adorable with his daughter.
Cap using Mjolnir.
Thor’s reaction to Cap using Mjolnir (“I KNEW IT!”)
Rocket Raccoon in general.
Nebula in general.
Thor having a good talk with his mom.
Frigga immediately recognizing Thor as a time traveler.
When everybody showed up for the final battle.
Banner sharing his tacos with Scott.
2012!Loki being a lil’ shit.
2012!Thor using Mjolnir as a defibrillator.
“Lunch, then back to Asgard.”
2014!Gamora: That’s the guy?
Nebula: Yes. It was either him, or a tree.
I’ve been saying for a year that Guardians 3 and Thor 4 could be the same movie, and that looks like it is very much happening. Awwww yiss.
THE BAD: Oh boy. I’m going to keep this to continuity in-universe rules type stuff because that’s where the objective issues are.
It has been long established that one must be obscenely powerful to so much as TOUCH an infinity stone (except for the reality stone (it touches yooooouuuu), and the soul stone probably has some unique rules), much less USE one, but the Avengers were all barehanding the damn things without any issues.
Power levels are meaningless. I knew they were going to nerf their really powerful characters (Carol, Thor and Wanda), but I did not expect them to do it to this extent.
- Carol shows up for the final battle, destroys Thanos’ ship BY HERSELF, but is unable to blow 2014!Thanos to smithereens. SURE.
- It was established in Infinity War that Wanda could hold off Thanos with five stones in the gauntlet, yet she could not obliterate 2014!Thanos with no gauntlet. SUUUURE.
- Also in Infinity War it was shown that with the aid of Stormbreaker (which enhances his powers) Thor could stand toe to toe with Thanos with ALL the infinity stones, but he couldn’t beat 2014!Thanos. SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE.
- At the end of the day, the final outcome of Iron Man sacrificing himself to save everyone was very, very contrived. Nerfing their really powerful characters was literally the only way to make that happen. Hell, 2014!Thanos without the gauntlet should have been manageable for Thor, Cap and Iron Man. There was really no reason they couldn’t take him down now that they were actually working as a team.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not unhappy with Iron Man sacrificing himself (very bittersweet), I just wish they’d had a more coherent way to get to that point. Like, maybe instead of Thanos coming down to draw them out personally, he sends his army down so that everyone has to fight their way to him, and Iron Man is the only one who manages to get close enough to do anything. We know the suit is strong/advanced enough to fight Thanos, but maybe not defeat him. And if he gets ahold of the gauntlet, well you know how that ends.
Moving on! They went on a long tirade about the rules of time travel, then proceeded to screw up the space time continuum anyway, and spark off several alternate realities (they did announce a “what ifs” series for Disney+ so that’s probably deliberately sloppy *eye roll*).  The Sorcerer Supreme is probably Disappointed, But Not Surprised.
Speaking of, they created a glaring plot hole. Thanos allegedly destroyed the infinity stones after he was done using them. But when they went back in time to collect the stones from the past, the Sorcerer Supreme explained to Banner that reality itself was based around those stones, removing one could potentially cause all sorts of chaos, not just alternate timelines.
But Thanos DESTROYED the stones. Destroyed them. The Sorcerer Supereme apparently knew this, and didn’t seem phased by the news. Possibly because A, she knows something we don’t, or B, they already forgot why they had the Avengers go back in time in the first place. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. Personally, I don’t think the stones can actually be destroyed. It was likely that when Thanos “destroyed” the stones he actually just scattered them again, he just didn’t know it. So he wasn’t lying, he was just ignorant. If THAT’s the case, the Sorcerer Supreme not being worried about the stones being destroyed would make sense, because she probably knew the stones COULDN’T be destroyed, but finding them again could take eons, so she did ultimately go along with the Avengers time heist.
Endgame ultimately had a lot of the same problems as The Last Jedi: in an effort to be unpredictable, shocking and have things Not Go As Planned, they had to ignore the internal logic of the universe to varying degrees. You can’t spend 20 movies establishing how a universe works only to throw all the rules away as soon as it becomes inconvenient. You can certainly change things up, but there has to be a reason for it. And that reason has to make sense. None of this made sense. That’s sloppy writing at best, and an insult at worst.
THE WTF:
Sacrificing Natasha was sadly par for the course. I had hoped that by sacrificing herself there would be some sort of loophole wherein she wasn’t killed/sucked into the soul stone, buuuuut nope. I’m guessing the “sacrifice something you love” thing is probably a big fat lie, because Natasha and Clint were fighting over who got to be sacrificed, and Clint clearly didn’t WANT to sacrifice Natasha and… it just makes no sense. The Soul stone has a price. That price is a soul. Whoever’s left standing (or dangling near) the top of the cliff gets the stone. No emotional attachment necessary.
As a friend pointed out… ANT MAN DIDN’T HAVE ANY ANTS! He should have done the time heist with ants. It would have gone much smoother. Also he could have summoned hordes of ants to attack 2014!Thanos, which would have been horrifying, but a perfect “Welcome to Earth” moment. And hell, who knows how a titan reacts to ant bites. Might be deathly allergic, for all we know.
Aside from Nebula, Natasha, and arguably Carol, all of the female superhero’s basically just had cameos. I know they had a lot of characters to juggle, but their final battle stuff was another contrived moment.
Where did Brunhilde (Valkyrie) get her Pegasus? Are they summoning creatures? Is there a dimension somewhere where they hang out? How did they have time to go there and get a pegasus that was conveniently battle trained and ready? Are they sentient?
What was Spider-man swinging on? There was barely anything for him to swing on.  Yet, there was swinging.
Why didn’t Thor use his lightning more? We know he can use it. He knows he can use it. He can use it with pinpoint accuracy so it isn’t like it was a huge liability in a crowded battlefield. But he barely used it. Cap used it more than he did, and Cap was just winging it. And it was effective against Thanos so like… why didn’t they double team lightning bros… oh right. That would have worked. NERFED SO HARD. WTF was up with Clint? Was he going after people who were still causing problems after the snap? What was he doing? Why was Nat just okay with him throwing a homicidal temper tantrum? Professor Hulk in the uncanny valley. I’m with Valkyrie, one or the other. Both is weird. THOR:
I know a lot of people felt that what they did to Thor was one big fat joke. I have to respectfully disagree, insomuch that not taking care of yourself when you fall into a deep depression is A Thing. It’s a sad thing. And the humor of the situation was –  for me – part Thor saying or doing something genuinely funny, and partly just plain awkward. Like laughing at Peter B. Parker crying in the shower in Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse. It’s funny because it’s sad.  We laugh because we don’t know what else to do. I’ll circle back around to Peter B. Parker in a minute. I would like to point out that Thor crashing, and crashing hard actually makes a lot of sense. It’s one of the few parts of the movie that DOES make sense. Consider Infinity War.
Thanos’ timing was probably deliberate. Was he thinking emotional devastation when he attacked the Statesman? Maybe. He was certainly thinking tactical advantage. Any emotional fallout was probably just a bonus. Finish off your biggest threat (what’s left of Asgard – I’m of the mind that Thanos was waiting around for Odin to croak), take out the most powerful player among them while he’s at a huge disadvantage (probably not a good idea to use your cool lightning powers on a big ship full of sensitive electronics), and as a bonus, emotionally break said powerful player at the same time. I don’t know if Thanos expected Thor to survive, but he wasn’t terribly surprised to see him at the end of Infinity War. Asgardians are notoriously durable, after all. And Thor especially so.
So, then what happens with Thor? Well he’s rescued, and he does everything he can to stay positive. He cracks jokes, he sympathies with Gamora, he’s a cheerleader for Etiri, and he does it all while he’s dying inside. He uses humor to keep himself together, but it’s clear he’s hurting BAD. He’s been in charge for maybe a couple of days and already ANOTHER huge disaster has befallen his people, and it’s only going to get worse if he doesn’t get his ass out there to put a stop to it. When Thor confronts Thanos in Wakanda, he initially does the right thing. The head is a much harder target to hit from a distance, so aiming for his chest was actually smart. He stopped Thanos in his tracks, brought him to his knees with that blow.
His real mistake was stopping to chat. I remember sitting in the theater watching Infinity War when Thor lands and does NOT immediately proceed to finish Thanos off. I believe my thoughts were “No - Thor… Thor, sweetie, just finish him off don’t stop to – aw shit.”
That mistake, that moment of weakness wherein he let his anger, and pain take over his better judgment is what cost half the universe. And he knows it. He knows it more than anyone else. He knows how powerful he is, he knows what he’s capable of. Everyone in Wakanda gave it their all. Tony, Spidey, Strange and the Guardians came close too, and Quill definitely fucked up there as well, but none of them are 1500 year old gods. They don’t have lightning running through their veins, they can’t fight for days on end without rest, they aren’t one man armies, they weren’t raised to be king and protector of the 9 realms, they didn’t have that burden placed on their shoulders. They aren’t anywhere near Thor’s level. They’re mortal. They make mistakes. They lose. Thor is far from perfect, but with the power he possess, the stakes are higher, there’s much more expected of him. And he fucked it up.
That’s not something someone simply recovers from. Not without help. And this is where there’s a big difference between Peter B. Parker and Thor becomes clear (well, aside from scale). Peter B. Parker is going through a rough patch. He’s gained a bit of weight. It is (gently) played for laughs.  But he has support. All of the other spider-people are there for him. Miles does a great job of getting him to wake up, to realize he’s gotta face his fears, and take that leap of faith. Thor, apparently, didn’t get that. Not until the time heist and he gets to talk to his mom.
As a proud member of #TeamThorNeedsAHug, I must ask… where were the rest of the Avengers? Too busy to check in on Thor? Or did they only contact him if they needed him for something? Did they brush him off, and assume he’d get better on his own? Were they so wrapped up in their own pain they just couldn’t reach out to anyone else? Cap had support group, did he not invite Thor? Or did he expect Thor to host support groups as well?
All they know is that they failed. But they’re not thinking about it from Thor’s context, they’re thinking about it from a human context. The human context is limited, fleeting.
So, Thor falls by the wayside. Any cries for help are brushed off. They get annoyed with him. They certainly got annoyed with him in Endgame. They stop keeping in touch with him.
The Avengers are pretty shitty friends.
This is why I am glad Thor is going off with the Guardians of the Galaxy for a while. The Guardians are weird, and they yell at each other a lot, and they fight, but at the end of the day, they’re a family.  Thor is in far better company. Also it will be HILARIOUS.
That said: THINGS I WANT TO HAPPEN IN GUARDIANS 3 (in no particular order):
Quill spends a little time on Earth and reconnects with his grandpa.
The Guardians work their magic and help Thor work through his depression and guilt.
A meta conversation pondering the power disparity between 5 years ago/current Thanos, and 2014 Thanos, and why Thor, Carol and Wanda (or Thor, Cap and Tony, for that matter) could not smush him like a bug while he was Infinity Gauntlet-less.
They discover that the infinity stones can’t actually be destroyed, Thanos just scattered them when he thought he had destroyed them, and there may be a way to get Gamora out of the soul stone.
They get Gamora out of the soul stone.
Mark Hamill is Space Hobo Supreme*
Thor becomes a Space Hobo and learns the ways of the Space Hobo from Mark Hamill
Thor goes sifting through Quills music collection at some point and asks if he has any Florence + The Machine.
We find out Rocket invited Thor to tag along with the Guardians figuring he needed a stable family environment, and time away from everything to recover.
Rocket is highly protective and supportive of Thor (much to Quills chagrin).
Awkward Drax Hugs (That Thor is totally down for)
Groot and Thor play video games.
Thor zaps himself back to being ripped for the sole purpose of annoying Quill.
Dance off.
Mantis does something really freaking cool.
Air guitar battle (because Guitar Hero exists, Thor plays video games now, and why the fuck not)
Nebula continues to soften up.
They bump into Loki in the least likely of places. A laundromat or something equally mundane.
* Back around the time The Last Jedi came out, Mark Hamill was joking around on Twitter (as he often does), that he was out of work, and needed a new job. James Gunn (possibly jokingly, possibly seriously) mentioned possibly having something for him to do in Guardians 3. This apparently, led into brunch, and a lot of unrelated silliness (Guardians of the 99!). I very much hope that Mark Hamill will be in Guardians 3 as a friendly Space Hobo.
