yeah why not seems kinda fun -> (optional step) the writing system is crazy bro -> damn theres no WAY im gonna remember any of this shit -> genuine interest and fascination with the differences between languages and needing to Know more

and its because of the stupidest reason for starting learning it in the first place

#me personally i only started french because i didnt want to do spanish or german #and we had to take a language #now look at me. ap student gonna take the exam in less than two months #did one course for asl because i needed to fill a credit and it seemed easy enough to do online #and i was so interested by deaf culture and i was having sm fun with learning signs #but i never continued it for?? some reason?? #i didnt take japanese any further than hiragana and some katakana but it was fun learning the writing system #not that i remember more than maybe 30% of it #and now im trying to learn ukrainian on duolingo and other outside sources #partially just bc i was curious #but now im like. very entranced by it #i have a google doc vocab list and everything #its very fun for me :) even if i dont use it in everyday life and if i drop it after a week #its also so fun to speak #I NEED TO. SHUTUP omfg #tldr languages are sk cool.. to Me.. i should take a linguistics class sometime…

not to be a hater but i hate what they did to the italian course on duolingo :/ now the course is the same as every other site, teaching you a bunch of phrases that you'd need if you were a tourist, but not actually teaching you grammar. it's unironically worse for my desire to learn than the nonsense sentences that at least utilized the grammar and vocab they'd previously taught me

second, vy is a valid and common vietnamese name and it's pronounced the exact same way as the letter. my cousin is named vy lol. it's common enough to be in duolingo...

i did it… i finally finished the english->arabic course

only took me three years give or take 😅

#well. until the next update hopefully #bc imo this course is very limited #it only teaches two tenses and it doesn’t even touch on the dual pronouns or any of that #and it’s quranic/classical so you learn all the short vowels which doesn’t help you learn colloquial arabic #which makes sense as an msa course but still #and all of the helpful grammar charts and vocab lists are hidden or only found on the pc format which is super inconvenient #they also need to make changes on the last few units or so bc those were just dozens of the same few lessons each time #and it was very annoying to not be learning anything new for a large chunk of this course #ever since the last update removing the tree it all got messed up and claimed i made further progress than i actually did #so. next step i should probably get proper grammar books and avtually practice with my colleagues #duolingo #languages #arabic #my posts

Today marked my 1000th day of learning Korean which is pretty cool. I’m still not very good at all, but I haven’t given up and I’m pretty proud of that.
