So, I'm writing a fic (and you know that writing is mostly just staring at a blank cursor, rereading, googling random things for context and actually very less writing than intended)

I found something I couldn't Google. So I have to come up with a few antagonists in the story, and I wanted to them to be maybe some of the most hated people in the Harry/Larry Fandom. Totally something you can't Google. Please help me out with a list! If you can't and you've still read this, thank you.

Huh… most hated.

I suppose everyone will have a slightly different take on this, but I’d say most people hate anyone from Modest!Management, Simon Cowell, Dan Wootton, Simon Jones, Ben Winston, many of the beards but Olivia is probably the one that was most universally hated although back in the day I would have said Swiftie and Eleanor, Briana Jungwirth, Cousin Ashley, Tami and Brett Clark, Rob Stringer, James Corden (funny how he was once so loved in this fandom).

Some people don’t like Nick Grimshaw, and he’s occasionally the bad guy in fics. But just as many write him as Harry’s friend or as a romantic partner for H or L. A lot of people hate Ellen Degeneres and Jimmy Kimmel for the way they treated the boys on their talk shows. And then there’s the crowd who hates Jeff and Irving Azoff.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. But I hope that helps! 💙

Finally, an article that does her justice. SHE’S the hero of the story. And it makes sure to highlight the fact that her genius artistry is now and always should be what she’s known for. The songwriter and artist of the decade.

In one of the defining early moments of Taylor Swift’s career, in 2008, she sat on a maroon armchair as a guest on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” chatting about her new country album, “Fearless.” Swift, prodded by DeGeneres’s rapid questions and general nosiness, revealed that one of the tracks, “Forever & Always,” was about her recent ex-boyfriend, pop star Joe Jonas. DeGeneres assured her that she would have no trouble moving on, and Swift agreed.

“When I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful,” Swift said, then smoothly delivered an instant-canon zinger: “And when I look at that person, I’m not even going to be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.”

“OHHHH!” the studio audience gasped, then broke into applause as Swift gave a satisfied smile. “No! You! Did! Not!” DeGeneres yelled, as Swift started laughing and looked sheepishly down at the floor, adding: “Sorry, I had to.”

The phone call reveal became a staple of Swiftian lore, but the incident also said a lot about Swift as an artist and celebrity: It wasn’t just that she was connecting with listeners as a teenage singer-songwriter, something Nashville executives previously did not think was possible. As savvy a move as it was, however, her candor set the tone for the next decade of her public image. Her dating life — and particularly her breakups — became open season for jokes, memes, award-show punchlines and numerous headlines as she dated fellow celebrities (Harry Styles, Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston) in her 20s and wrote songs when the relationships ended. Entertainment Tonight broke the news Saturday evening, exclusively reporting that Swift, 33, and Alwyn, 32, were over but that the breakup was “not dramatic” and “the relationship had just run its course.” This report set the internet ablaze, with some fans refusing to believe it until a more celebrity publicist-friendly outlet such as People magazine weighed in — and People wasn’t far behind, citing an anonymous source that the news was true.

This time, Swift is the hero at the center of the story, partly because she’s so much more famous than Alwyn, known for roles in “The Favourite” and the Hulu series “Conversations With Friends,” but best known for his relationship with Swift.

But also, this is Taylor Swift in 2023: The media ecosystem has changed, with social media platforms and fans driving the narrative instead of the tabloids, and the Swiftie fandom is a universe with its own language, customs and rules that can overtake the internet with its intensity. Although her fans still speculate about her private life, Swift has made a concerted effort to move away from the “look at all of her boyfriends!” storylines that consumed her early media coverage. She stopped hiding coded messages in her lyrics about potential subjects of the songs. She and Alwyn rarely appeared together in public and wouldn’t even say each other’s names in interviews. Her sold-out Eras Tour celebrates her evolution and makes it clear that the past is far in the past.

It’s a world of difference from a decade ago, and Swift knows it. For someone who is rarely seen in public unless she definitively wants to be, it was no coincidence that she took a brief, heavily photographed stroll outside a restaurant in New York City on Monday night. Fans are already comparing her black-shirt-and-bedazzled-jeans outfit to Princess Diana’s revenge dress, and speculating that she purposefully appeared because she wanted to let everyone know she’s fine.

Swift, a self-mythologizer to her core, knows all of this, and she’s aware that the fandom is eagerly awaiting to see whether she will address the situation in concert. She recently swapped out one song on her Eras Tour set list, “Invisible String” with “The 1,” the former about soul mates, the latter about looking back fondly on a past relationship.

Can I share a view of the Louis fanbase? Unfortunately, because Louis’ fandom still comprises mostly of 1D fans or Larries, all of their perception is grounded in the Larrie material which is handed down from old Larrie Twitter/Tumblr/IG/YouTube posts. All of this content is highly skewed to form the narrative that Larries/1Ders wanted to pass down. The big Larrie blogs now were not even existent when 1D was active, a lot of the information they share today as facts in untrue but they are not really interested in facts. What this has done is really dumbed down the boys personalities and turned them into 1 dimensional people (1D :)), which they really weren’t. From 2013 onwards, the media basically treated 1D as Harry’s band. All the focus was on him, hence a lot of what you would find on Tumblr or You tube would all be focused on him and the others would be just side characters. Concert goers focused their cameras on Harry for the most part, people like Ellen Degeneres had interviews where each question was directed at Harry and the others were there just as props. It wasn’t fun for non Larries or people who were not big Harry fans in the 1D fandom so people ended up aligning to these cohorts.

Louis for instance was a big flirt on and off stage with all the boys not just Harry as Larries now like to proclaim. Here is a post that I am sure not many Larries today would have seen.

They will however have seen Harry and Liam being homoerotic on stage because that’s part of Harry being gay saga.

Louis was always the one who was the most comfortable with showing genuine affection. He really set that tone for the band. He has done the same with his band now as a solo artist too. It’s not about homo eroticism on stage, it is about care and affection with Louis.

One of the criticisms the Larries will have about Louis is that he seems to not encourage female artists and surrounds himself with men. This is also a bit one sided. One of the first collaborations of any member of the band was Louis with Bebe Rexha. They seemed to have a very comfortable chemistry when they did promo. Louis had her sing the opening verse of the song. He also wanted to put together and manage a girl band initially. On xfactor, he seemed to gravitate towards Ayda and showed her the most respect. Very different from the working relationship Harry seemed to have forged on the movie set of DWD with Florence and Olivia. Wonder if he would have treated a male director in the same way?

Also, Louis’ friends and family will be presented in really bad light by the Larries but no one can deny that he has always kept them around. Stan was there almost all through the xfactor journey with him, he is the one who invited his friends over from his hometown for the big party he had when they were first getting successful. His celebrations were never about inviting the Beckhams to his birthday party. Remember when he took his great grandmother to the Savoy for her birthday, I am sure the Larries today don’t have any masterposts about that. His family must have done something right for the amount of love and care he has always shown them.

Yes, he has vices such as he is a chain smoker, he likes to party and consume alcohol and is a self confessed stoner but that’s not all there is to him. I wish he gets to have a fandom one day that is not just built on Larrie masterposts but a more balanced view.

The cupcake image of Harry also percolated down from Larries and 1D fans. It’s amazing to realize that what Harry took away from Louis’ legacy of brotherly camaraderie and acceptance of all sexualities and genders was that it was good marketing.

Flag waving and photoshoots were done for marketing. Privately, Harry’s romantic partners were strategically chosen for business. They were discarded when they outlived their usefulness. But L/Harrie masterposts are all about Harry-the-victim. They will not call him out for his friends or his choices, just as they cannot accept that Louis isn’t the crude caricature they make him out to be.

I'm the one that sent the message about us believing Timmy is straight because of his dating history and Cabo and Coachella. I knew while I was writing it that someone would object. Sure, he could be fluid, bisexual, pansexual, whatever people want. But the point is: we have only ever seen him with GIRLS. He has only ever spoken about dating GIRLS. Ellen DeGeneres stated he was straight to his face and he did NOT object. Whatever people want to believe, he presents as straight and his dating history speaks of someone who is straight. Could he be something else? Sure, I guess. But so far, there is nothing pointing that way. NOTHING. It's frankly embarassing that a subset of his fandom keeps pushing on him a sexuality that he has never indicated to be. By all means, he wants us to know he is straight. In the small possibility that he is not, he clearly doesn't want us to know that so if you love him, fucking respect his will and stop pushing for this idea he's gay when he's either:

1. Not gay/bisexual

2. Not willing to come out as gay/bisexual

i would loveee a reputation (or lemonade. maybe. but i can’t see him doing that) era from louis for LT3 or even an EP but he’s so. Good and forgiving and kind and u can tell he doesn’t like holding grudges or being angry… the lyric from btm that’s like “how you sleep at night when you’re just like me” gave me a small taste of the kind of energy i want but i don’t know if he ever would😢

Most Larries and Directioners don’t acknowledge the snark in the lyrics (the bridges from Bigger Than Me and Walls, his two big singles from each album) because they don’t want to address the discord underneath the “happy 1D” story, and that’s most of Louis’ fans.

It’s a Pandora’s box. Once opened, one must acknowledge everything Louis addresses in AOTV, everything Zayn and Liam have talked about in interviews.

I don’t think Louis wants people to think of One Direction as primarily about grievances either. He wants to hold on to the positive, uplifting highs, the wonderful memories and accomplishments, the feeling of unity, the camaraderie.

However, the message of unity is one that Harry has rejected from day one of hiatus, celebrating the very public signing of a solo contract with a new manager, hired paps, Kardashians, Ellen Degeneres and all. The rejection of One Direction is also very transparent, very public from Harry’s avoiding being seen with 1D.

So “unity” is a difficult message when the most famous, prominent ex-member of 1D has marketed against it from before he even left the band. (We saw from the Anna Wintour clip that none of Harry’s associates think positively about the rest of 1D anyway.)

It’s been 9 years since the band broke up. The original 1D fans have lost interest and dispersed. Most new fans experience the band secondhand, through fandom lore. A reputation era album would cause controversy and definitely would be misinterpreted, and Louis probably isn’t in a position to withstand the criticism. Simon Jones can’t even market the positive angle properly, let alone a controversial one (and maybe still employing a very ineffectual Simon Jones is not in Louis’ control anyway).
