Emerald City Siblings Headcannons

Welcome back to the Hell and Paradise that is my Headcannons.

Even though Emerald only knew Oscar for the shortest time, she assumes that Oscar is just one of her own. A brother in arms types.

Oscar tends to act as more of the responsible sibling, but as they spent more time together, he ended up getting into more trouble. Even creating his own safe place, and than later showing it to Emerald, so she could use it to. Sibling goals.

At the beginning a lot of people didn't take Oscar seriously, and Emerald ended up being more scary than she intended. Though Oscar did the same when people weren't willing to trust her.

Even though most of the Beacon students made it to Vacuo a lot of them seeing Oscar and Emerald together just assumed they were related. Even going as far as to refer to them as Emerald's little brother vice a versa with Oscar's older/big sister.

If Oscar is the little prince, than that means Emerald is the fox that he tames.

When Jaune returns with team RWBY, he goes back to acting Oscar's older brother figure, and Emerald and him would end up in constant competitions later over his attention. Oscar never notices of course.

Emerald and Oscar both have scars that they want to hide, and both spend some time talking about those experiences.

They both start using hand motions and just glances to get through to each other, and both team JNR + RWBY don't know what to make of it.

Emerald is the wingwoman who helps Oscar get a date with Ruby in turn, the farmboy helps her set up a few dates with Mercury.

They both sometimes joke about who has the best relationship. Usually its Emerald due to knowing Mercury longer, all things considered.

Oscar's aunt ends up offering to make Emerald part of her family, and Emerald ends up crying while accepting the offer.

That's all I could think of with this strange friendship. Its great to work with these characters.

Also for the fact that writing these two turned out to be a lot of fun.

Im thinking on Ruby and Emerald having a small rivalry because in the months/year RWBYJ where in the Ever After Emerald became Oscar's partner, and she feels like its her duty to keep him safe. Meanwhile Ruby, with the death Oscar Ilussion still fresh on her mind, she feels the need to protect him. And also the fact that on Ruby's timeline, Emerald defected like yesterday and she doesnt know if she can trust her, even less with Oscar safety on the line.

You could tell Oscar is pretty done with both of them.

Also they having to team up to save Oscar when he eventually gets himself in trouble/captured/goes missing (bcs of course he would).

Figured I'd post my favorite characters of colors since this Black History month so here are mine from the show rwby

And say what you like I know a lot of people may or may not think of him that way but I see Oscar is black / mixed

When you look at the main cast unless you know that some of them are Asian you just see what looks like white characters even on the secondary team they all just seem like white passing characters even ran who even though you can tell he's Asian coded same with blake

Oscar Maria and emerald if you count them as a part of the main cast like I do or the only few characters are of a dark skin tone

Even looking back at the earlier volumes of Ruby like volumes 1-3 one of the few black characters you have that people mainly recognize our emerald there are a few others that get introduced but they're such minor characters they're not a lot of people even mention them

I'm hoping we get a few more characters whenever we get volume 10 and I do hope that they are black

I also kind of hope the writers get better at writing characters of color because every time they write a character a color in this show they just get killed off or have to be redeemed or they're making bad decisions for no reason and yeah like even with the aesops they reviewed as the enemy so the latter half of volume 7 and even all through Volume 8

But there's something about the Aesop's characters and how they were portrayed I didn't like that well besides maybe marrow he seemed the most relatable and it's not just because we actually spent more time with him on screen it's just something about how the others and even other black characters have kind of been written in the show that just rubs me the wrong way as a black person I've seen a few others talk about this like I said I just hope we get some more black characters and later volumes if we get them and that they're written a bit better

i think there would be a really easy way to combine the first oz books wherein dorothy aids in the discovery of ozma and in learning of the wizard's misdeeds against a land not his own she would have a firmer compassion to the place she was trying to escape from and we could feel satisfied when she returns to kansas

Oscar: Cenotaph.

Emerald: What?

Oscar: It's only a gravestone if it marks the location of a body. A monument honouring someone whose body isn't present is a cenotaph.

Emerald: I'm… not sure that's how it works if the body gets up and walks away on its own.

Oscar: There's a precedent for gravestones being reclassified as cenotaphs if the body is later removed and reinterred elsewhere. There's no rule that says the body itself can't do the removing.

Emerald: Okay, but the body is very much coming back. That's kind of what we're here to accomplish.

Oscar: So it's a temporary cenotaph.

Emerald: And naturally our greatest concern here is avoiding semantic ambiguity.

Oscar: Semantic ambiguity is how vampires get you.

Emerald: Like the Fairies? Or Demons?

Oscar: the Fae and the Demonic/Devilish follow the Letter of their Deals. Vampires are not as beholden to the definition of the words in their contracts.

Behold, the updated team OMEN lineup! (click for better quality)

I ended up revamping the designs pretty much completely because, if I'm being honest, I feel like the originals were too boring, especially for the world of RWBY, not to mention my character design skills have improved a lot since I first designed them.

I'm super happy with how all of these have turned out, and I think they're finally starting to look like a semi-cohesive unit (as much as these dysfunctional dorks can anyways)

individual designs/design notes under the cut!

Oscar's obviously undergone the most change in this AU, so it makes sense for his outfit to be the most radically different. However, I still wanted you to be able to tell this was still Oscar, if that makes any sense. As such, I wanted to incorporate some elements of his other outfits into this one.

I leaned WAY more into the steampunky vibes with this design, and I ended up using the shade of red that's on his Atlas jacket.

Since he tends to associate green with Ozpin (he barely had any green on his v4 design, and only started wearing it after he started coming to terms with the merge) I wanted to incorporate the autumn colors of his v4 design in. Lots of dark reds and browns, though with a much more muted color palate than before.

He's still got that pop of green w/ the patch on his leg tho

The goggles are to hide when the grimm starts to show in his eyes.

The gear pin is actually a gear he took from Long Memory as a memento!

The bag on the back of his belt is for carrying Dust rounds.

He tends to have most of his body covered, as to hide the scars he got from the grimm and his time with Salem

The whole team have their emblems slashed for symbolic reasons (and also b/c merc thought it looked cool.) his is on the back of his jacket!

Mercury is arguably the character who's design went through the biggest changes over the years. Truth be told, I had a lot of trouble designing him when I first started, considering his Vale outfit was so bland and didn't give me much to work off of. Thankfully, V8 picked up the slack and gave me a better idea of what to go for.

I designed him to invoke a sort of beat up vigilante kind of feel - someone who's roughing it most of the time, and doesn't really have the time to care about appearances.

His coat is SUPER torn up due to his fighting style, being incredibly close quarters. The rips on the bottom are unintentional, but I imagine that when they got to Vacuo, he just cut the sleeves off it himself.

I wanted to turn the saturation of his colors WAY UP, not only because it looks more interesting this way, but because it's also indicative of the headspace he's in by the time he gets this outfit, which is to say, a lot brighter.

I also wanted to make his face a LITTLE bit more distinct, so I gave him an eyebrow slit and a mole on his cheek, along with a lot of scars from all the fighting he’s done over the years. I imagine Neo helped him with the eyebrow.

The jacket actually has ice Dust woven on the inside, to keep him cool. Nevertheless, he loves to fling it off dramatically during battle, Edward Elric style.

Emerald gifted him the dog tag - it was one of the first pieces of jewelry she ever made.

His emblem is on the back of his coat - he wanted it to stand out from everyone else's, so he slashed it twice.

And on the other hand, Emerald's design is probably the one that's changed the least. I kinda struck gold with the mark 2 outfit, so I didn’t really feel the need to deviate all that much.

I wanted her design to be one that gives the impression of mobility - light, simple enough, with lots of arm and leg room to maneuver around (and yes I know the heels aren't practical for that, let me have this)

I changed the black color to have a hood on her top instead because I thought it fit the character better. Em is a thief after all - hoods are good for stealth.

The biggest change is, of course, the undercut. Out of everyone in the group, Emerald's the most accustomed to the heat, so she'd probably cut it a bit to keep her head a bit cooler.

All the bracelets and earings she's wearing are handmade, probably out of scrap metal she’s found while on the streets. I imagine that Emerald is pretty crafty, and likes making stuff like this in her spare time.

The red accents in her previous outfits were there to match with Cinder (who, noticeably never had any green accents in return) As such, this design lacks any red accents, as she's trying to move on from that toxic relationship.

Her pockets are actually pretty deep, and hold things like bandages and emergency mini smoke grenades.

Her emblem is also on the back of her jacket, matching Oscar's.

And finally, best girl Neo. TBH, I VASTLY prefer her Vale design to her Atlas ones (it's my fave in the whole show) so I drew more from that than the other one.

I was kinda trying to go for a magician's assistant vibe with this outfit, with the bowtie and gloves and all that.

Neo's not very experienced with the heat, being Atlesian, so she didn't really dress properly. As such, she ended up putting her hair in a ponytail.

A fun idea I got right away were slits in her sleeves and pants, but then I one-upped myself, and thought; what if they were lace?

The original design had way too much black and not enough brown, so I tried to incorporate more of that into this design, since, y'know - Neapolitan ice cream and all that.

She's changed the band of her hat to be a more reddish shade, in remembrance of Torchwick, and she's also swapped out the feather to match the rest of her outfit.

And yes, she swapped the sides of her hair each color was on to see if anyone would notice. (No one has said anything yet.)

Her emblem is a pin on the side of her hat. Neo didn't strike me as the type of character to wear an emblem, but I still wanted to incorporate it, so I figured something subtle like a pin would work.

Infinite Realms Green Lantern Corps Phantom au.

Hal to Watchtower "I've arrived at the location the power ring was last picked up on the scanners I'm in a small city named Amity Park Illinois"

Hal located the building that his power ring is directing him to. A house with a sign that says Fenton Works In bright neon.

As Hal walks up to knock at the front door he sees a ufo-looking contraption on the roof Hal mutters "there's no way that thing is legal to have in a residential area".

A red-headed young woman in her early twenties answered the front door to Fenton Works. Hal's ring recognizes her as Jasmine Madeline Fenton the person the power had been looking for. Hal's ring also recognized that her young brother Daniel James Fenton is also home Madeline Walker Fenton and Jackson James Fenton are not present Hal's ring whispers to him. Good Hal thinks less people to deal with this should be an easy in and out mission.

"So you're Earth's new Green Lantern that the ring has chosen" Jazz looked at Green Lantern Hal Jordan who stood on the front porch of Fenton Works. Jazz had just arrived back home from Gotham after taking some mandatory vacation time from Arkham Asylum. Jazz looked at Hal in his civilian disguise that probably was just his everyday clothes. She mentioned that they should probably talk about this inside. Jazz invited Hal in.

"This is about the Green Lantern ring that came flying through the wall at me isn't it." Jazz said aloud. Hal nodded in yes motion as he moved to walk in.

"Are sure you also aren't here for Danny?" asked Jazz as she stepped aside as the Justice League member walked in through the front door. They headed over to the living room and sat down on the couch. "Why would I be here for your younger brother," Hal asked Jazz in confusion. "Oh, you didn't know Danny had been chosen by a Green Lantern ring back when he was 16" Jazz replied to the Lantern's question. Hal's ring discreetly tells him that there is no record of Danny James Fenton being a part of the Corps.

"Danny! get down here" Jazz yelled upstairs. A groggy sleepy 18-year-old Danny comes down the stairs and into the living room "Jazz you know I just got back from a long-ass patrol Vakta was being a hard ass again I barely got any sleep you know how she is when she's like that. Whoever said you can sleep when you are dead is a filthy liar". Danny stopped in front of the couch sleepily rubbing at his eyes. Hal noticed the Emerald Green ring on his right hand that his power ring was having trouble properly identifying without a more thorough scan according to his ring it was a power ring of some kind.

Danny finally noticed the other person in the room "Oh hey you must be Jason Jazzys boyfriend, Jazz keeps talking about you a lot whenever she calls home, from the way she likes to talk about you I thought you would be a lot younger". "Danny no this isn't Jason" a red-faced Jazz replied, this is Green Lantern Hal Jordan.

Danny cuts Jazz off to say irritatedly "the same Hal Jordan that belongs to the Justice League the same League that ignored our calls for help 4 years ago". "Danny! be nice," Jazz says "maybe now that the Justice League is finally here" Danny has more to say but is cut off by Hal stopping the argument the two siblings were about to have.

Hal jumps in saying that "I am here because your sister Jasmine was chosen by her Green Lantern ring to be Earth's next Green Lantern and you also apparently where chosen by a power ring".

Danny answers Hal "uh you're a little too late for me I've already been contacted by the Green Lantern Corps back when I was 16". Hal answers back by saying that there's no record of you or your power ring back on Oa. Danny replies to Hal " It was the Green Lantern Corps that patrols the Infinite Realms that got intouch with me, my sector is Infinite Realms sector 4348247".

Hal just stares at Danny in confusion. "Uhh hey kid you don't mind if I scan your power ring do you"? Hal asks. "Sure go ahead and scan my ring if that will make you believe me" Danny answers back sarcastically to Hal's question.

Hal chooses to ignore Danny's sarcasm the poor kid looks dead on his feet, and as he scans Danny's ring the results confirm that Danny has an authentic Green Lantern ring and is a member of a Corps called the Infinite Realms Green Lantern Corps. Hal asks for more information and the ring replies that it is unable to access classified information.

Suddenly Hal receives a message directly from the Guardians back on Oa that Green Lantern Hal Jordan Green Lantern Jasmine Madeline Fenton and IRGLC Daniel James Fenton Phantom are to report to Oa immediately. Danny just presses his head into his hands and groans out that it was supposed to be his day off.
