Hi Emilee I'm curious what are some things you can do with a professional writing degree? I'm trying to figure out what I want to do and considering it sounds like it's a pretty introvert-friendly job I was curious

Hi! That's a great question! A professional writing degree would be good for getting a job that involves writing, editing, or communications. So things like journalism, freelance writing, copy editing, social media coordination, technical writing, etc.

It's funny that you say that a professional writing degree sounds pretty introvert-friendly, because one of the reasons why I went back to school to get that degree is because I want to work with the public as little as possible due to it being overwhelming for me. I obviously can't speak for all jobs you could possibly get with a professional writing degree, but I currently work as a freelance academic copyeditor for an educational website and it's super nice to be able to work from home, make my own hours, and not have to communicate with anyone unless it's via email. So while I'm sure most jobs wouldn't allow you all of these things, professional writing is definitely a step in the right direction to finding a job that does, or at the very least allows some of these things.

I think it's also important to note that freelance work in particular has its downsides, including high competition, unsteady employment, and added anxiety when filing your taxes. Also, if you want to get into the field, padding your resume is super important. Most employers want writing/editing experience, and having SEO (Search Engine Optimization) skills are a requirement of a lot of employers as well, so it's beneficial to get an SEO certification!! Not to dissuade you from pursuing professional writing, of course! These are just things to consider before going for it! I wish you luck in whatever you choose to do. :)

Cadre Weaponry: The Thank You Post

I told y’all this was coming: brace yourselves for a long post.

First, I want to thank every single one of you who has interacted with this story in some way. This story has meant so so much to me, and this universe has gotten me through some hard times over the last couple months, and the support you’ve all shown me has meant everything. From my friends to those of you I’ve never talked to, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Now, there are four people who deserve their own shoutouts, because without them, Cadre Weaponry would not be what it is.

The first is @city-of-fae If you know Alicia, then you know she’s basically the sweetest person ever. She got constant messages during the writing process of the original story. Every time I finished a section, she got texts about which section was done, the word count, the page count, and how many sections were left. She was always giving me feedback and reading the new parts. Even if she couldn’t read everything as I wrote it, she was always telling me how proud she was and encouraging me to keep writing. I think she screamed about me finishing it as much as I did. 💕💕

The next person is @tangledraysofsunshine She, much like Alicia, got constant updates about where I was in the writing process. Not only would she go in and read the newest parts and give me feedback, but she would edit as she read, which was so incredibly helpful. Because I was typing so much at a time, I made a lot of mistakes. I would constantly get cute little notes that said something along the lines of “I don’t know what word this is supposed to be, but I know it’s not this one.” 💛💛

The next person on this list deserves a thank you not only from me, but from anyone who has enjoyed this story. That person is none other than @highqueenofelfhame I know I’m constantly thanking her for supporting me, but with this story she was especially important. You guys don’t know this, but if it wasn’t for Emilee, this story wouldn’t exist at all. It would just be a random little idea rolling around in my brain. When I first got this idea I had no idea how people would react - I really didn’t think people would be all that receptive of it. So I kept it in my brain, and then one day I was talking to Em, and I told her I had this idea. All the text said was something like “so it’s the Cadre, and they own a weapons shop, and they all get a happily-ever-after. Here are the ships, and it’s just going to be fluffy and sassy and smutty.” Before I could even mention how I was worried that people wouldn’t like it because “what if they don’t like the couples” or “what if they don’t like that it’s a weapons shop,” she was literally screaming about how amazing she thought it was and how much she wanted me to write it. So, Emilee is the whole reason this thing exists at all. 🖤💚

This last person probably deserves a thank you from all of you as well, because she’s been as involved in this story, the old parts and the new parts, as someone who isn’t the author can possibly be. And that person is @nalgenewhore She knows everything that’s going to happen in this story before I write it. She might not know all the details, but she knows enough. When I was working on the original parts, every time I told her I’d finished a section she was right there on the doc, reading and giving me feedback. Sometimes she’d just show up there without having to be told, and I would just message her and be like “I’m stuck and I see you lurking, come help me!” Isa has access to every single Google Doc I have related to Cadre Weaponry, and she gets so excited about the new ideas. I can just write half a sentence about something I’m considering adding, and she’ll be right there, yelling about how much she loves it and, even if no one else wants it to be written, she does. I think she’s more excited about the new stuff than I am. Lastly, and this is a little sneak peak for you, she’s helping me with something pretty important. In some of the new stuff I have planned, we’ll get to see the parents of our boys and their lovely ladies, and you all know that, aside from Aelin and Elide, absolutely none of their parents have names in canon. Just the other day, I asked Isa if she wanted to help me with something for Cadre Weaponry. And now she’s officially naming all the parents that don’t have names. Every single name she’s given me so far (we’re still not done because it’s a lot of names) has been absolutely perfect, and I’m so excited for the rest of them. 💞
