Mel's yet another reminder to please stop telling other people what to do.
There will be people that don't want to watch ESC. This is perfectly fine. You totally have this right of own choice.
But so do the people that do want to watch. I don't know if I can say 'we', but I think(?) we are not forcing not-watchers to watch. So please also don't force watchers not to watch.
Stop calling people that do want to watch names, bad things, and just let them make their own choice for themselves.

Hi, i'm a newish bl drama watcher from thailand that just started watching thai bls. i'm a bit ashamed to say that for a long time as a gay man living here i've been avoiding bl shows like the plague cuz of both the fandom reputation and of misconception from my yaoi era which i leave far behind. i'm just want to ask how did you got into watching thai bls and what were you preconception before you got into it.
Welcome to the Tumblr side of BL fandom. I'd actually like to also hear more of your experience with yaoi and BL as a gay person growing up in Thailand if you're willing to share.
For me, I'm a Black American from the Gulf Coast (the South). I grew up in a Catholic city and spent my entire adolescence in the closet. Despite having a sense of who I was as early as 8 years old, I kept most of that to myself. Because I didn't talk about it much with people, I found out most information about queer media and queerness from the internet.
Tumblr media
I entered BL via queer cinema. I think the first explicitly gay character that I remember from TV was Marco from Degrassi: The Next Generation. There were probably others, and definitely more subtle expressions, but when I think about the oldest gay character I remember and connect to, it's Marco. I don't like counting things like shipping Shawn and Corey on Boy Meets World or Tai and Matt on Digimon for oldest gay characters. Sailor Moon can't even count because we got a censored version of it in America.
Tumblr media
I got access to satellite television away from observing eyes around age 16 and started watching content on Logo back when they aired gay content regularly. I watched basically whatever I could late at night. It's how I saw movies like Get Real (1998), Beautiful Thing (1996), and Bent (1997). It's also how I saw Queer as Folk (2000-2005) Noah's Arc (2005-06).
Tumblr media
After hitting adulthood I mostly got lost in video games and standard American TV for a while, but I did basically show up to any Gay Event in TV. I appreciate that Stef and Lena from The Fosters (2013-2018) were some of the only TV lesbians to survive the horror of 2016.
Tumblr media
I watched a bunch of movies in this time, many of which appear on the Queer Cinema Syllabus I made for a hypothetical Westerner new to BL and queer cinema, which @wen-kexing-apologist has decided to try to complete.
Tumblr media
I got into Thai BL in 2018 accidentally. I started seeing gifsets of Kongpob telling Arthit he'll make him his wife passing around Tumblr and was basically like, "Right, what's all this then?"
Tumblr media
I had watched a few Thai gay films, mostly notably Love of Siam (2007), Bangkok Love Story (2007), How to Win at Checkers Every Time (2015), and The Blue Hour (2015), but this was the first time I was seeing a long series made available so easily from any Asian country.
Tumblr media
From there I got into Make It Right (2016-17) and Love Sick the series (2014). Once I realized that yaoi had moved beyond manga and a few anime adaptations, I went looking for a lot more. I basically haven't left since I started in about 2016 with SOTUS.
There's my basic entry into the genre. I don't think I was as worried about fandom and worries at the time because so much of being a fan of queer cinema was a mostly-private experience for me for so long. I didn't realize that BL fans active in the space would predominantly be women or queers figuring themselves out. It took a while to adjust to that, and also to adjust my expectations of the kinds of queer stories BL distributors were willing to fund.
Tumblr media
That being said, I tend to agree with @absolutebl that BL has a useful role in normalization for non-queer audiences who encounter it. I like cheering BL when it does things I think work really well, and also deriding it when I think it does things that are offensive to help nudge the genre and offer my perspective as a gay man.
Tumblr media
I like the place we're at right now where there's way too much to watch for any person with other hobbies and responsibilities because it means that people can pick and choose what's to their tastes.
Tumblr media
More often than not, I'm probably most-invested in something airing from Japan because of my melancholy nature, but there's so much variety these days that it's okay if you don't like everything. I certainly don't!
I'm glad you joined us on Tumblr and look forward to your thoughts!

You know like how much you wanna touch those non-human characteristics they have or maybe they are similar to an animal
EX; Gorou, Yae, Sucrose, Tignari, Diona, Itto, Ganyu, Kokomi, etc
I JUST WANNA LIKE JJGMGKGKGJGKF
PLEASE,,,
I can just imagine the reader iseki to genshin and then gathers up everyone in the building that the people made just for them. And then they ask to meet (character with the characteristics of an animal or even an oni) and when they do, they litterally smother that person with all their love. And yes. I'm obsessed with SAGAU

You asked him to transform into his dragon form. At first he politely declined until he saw your sad pitiful face :(
He couldn't resist so he gave in quickly. As you touch his horns, his tail unconsciously wraps around you, bringing you closer. He apologized with a flustered look on his face. But you, of course. Smothered him with more love than he had ever received. It's overwhelming in a good way. He feels comforted and relaxed by your warmth.
You couldn't wait to see his full form

Was too lazy to do the images separately for each person. Also I picked 10/10 random.
Yae miko 🦊
She is a bit flirty though and she does tease you but immediately quiets down when you let yourself be within the warmth of her 5 fluffy Tails and ears too. But now to the flirty side. When she flirts with her teasing, one time you accidentally grip her tail too hard, and she yelped. (Definitely not because of the pain 😳)
Yeah, after that day, she made sure to be careful with the flirting and teasing. But she would gladly lets you do it again someday.
Gorou
He tried to seem calm but inside his mind goes wild, he sat down with both knees on the floor and his knuckles turn white of how hard he was gripping his pants.
After that incident, he always felt the urge to go to you and be smothered by your love as you ruffled his hair, touching the right spots on his ears and tail.
It was truly blissful, he could ascend to the celestials. You told him the chocker on his neck looks nice.
He wonders how you react if he wears a collar around his neck
Diona
She's annoyed at first but finds warmth in your petting. She comes for you for comfort when all the drunken people are being mean to her. She hides behind you as you ruffled her hair and glared at the drunk person as they felt a chill upon their spine
Congratulations, you are seen her new parent figure!
Tignari
At first when you pat his head for his hard work being a forest watcher. He's surprised at least but is happy for such praise from your Grace. He's used to you playing with his ears and hugging his tail. Though he feels embarrassed of how good it feels when you touch them.
If you don't praise or either pat his head for his good work at least once every day, he thought he made you mad and tears fall from his eyes. But you assured him, that you just forgot.
Praise him now
Bonus;
Xiao

He would only see himself as a tool. You know that, so when he hesitated. You told him he would be your comfort buddy. So he agrees. He would never admit that he liked it when you take care of his wings and stroke it so softly. He uses his wings as a pillow or blanket when you felt sleepy or cold.
His karma debt goes away whenever you come around him.
He feels at peace
Alhaitham & Dottore
I know both of them aren't exactly hybrids of animals but they are similar,
Dottore has a bird-like mask, sometimes when you try to hug his bird mask pokes you in the shoulder. But you just pat his hair and play with it. Sometimes you braid it and he doesn't even bother un-doing it. He even comes to you to braid it again and he will pout frown if you don't. He usually does this when he's stressed from work or when one worker who made him in a bad mood.
With Alhaitham, (alpha) oh come on, have you seen his eyes go red? So it counts...He feels unfamiliar with this feeling, as you let him lay on your lap while he reads a book. Your thighs are an excellent block of hearing and maybe chest tooOf course, he prefers to be it in private. Only you can see him like this.
[Yeah, Alhaitham was a joke though.]

like a virgin, like a prayer | shan yu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Navigation | More Shan Yu | AO3
synopsis: It's been months since you had agreed upon being his lover, and weeks since you truly became it. Now all you can think is about how much you want Shan Yu. All the time, in every way. And so does he.
warnings: smut. consensual/non consensual voyeurim. strip tease. exhibitionism. public nudity. public/non public masturbation. loss of virginity. gentle sex. oral sex. blood. size kink. shan "i will make it fit" yu. praise kink. creampie. age gap. kidnapping. shan yu (i need to respect my wife) x reader (just fuck me already, please). yandere!shan yu. female!reader. in this house we hate the misogynist version of Shan Yu in Mulan (2020).
Tumblr media
A bird of prey. That's what he truly is. More than a warrior, than a strategist: Shan Yu is a watcher. He analyzes, observes. And when he find a focal point, he don't let it be. Just like his falcone, it's on his nature to watch when no one knows they're being watched.
And you're the object of his desires and curiosities. You're the mistery he can't seem to unravel. Every little thing you do, from the way you look at people to the things you say when you're alone with yourself, facinastes him.
After all, that's how he meet you. Watching you when you thought you were alone. That's how he fell in love. Watching your soul echoing through the woods. Apparently what people say is true. Old habits die hard.
Shan Yu wanted to get drunk on every aspect of you. The way you walk like you don't have time to waste. How you do your hair on the mornings. Which clothes can steal your interest when you're walking on a village. How sometimes you will randomly look at this sky, breath in, and come back to your routine.
He likes to know who you're when there is no one else around. Your reaction to the book you're reading when you're alone bellow an ash tree, how silence seems to restore your energy, how you can be really mad over little, insignificant things. Shan Yu wants to see you with no filters.
It's not his fault that he wants you whole.
Even thought you're his prisoner — now you wholeheartly agreed to be his bride —, you're a free spirit. He can see that by the way nature works on you. Shan Yu can take you from others, if it was on him no one would ever deserve the privilege of your presence, but there is a limit for the things he can take from you. And he would never take swimming away from you.
After your classes for war strategic, his guards make sure that you won't be bothered by anyone feeling stupid enough to mess with what belong to Shan Yu. You can have your fun for how long you desires, the only thing he asks is for you to eat from time to time. So for a couple of hours, is just you and the freedom water gives you.
And him, of course.
Watching from afar. It's like you're a deity. Shan Yu is on his way to conquer China, but if you asked him to conquer the sea it would be yours. It already is. He will just make others surrender to you.
The thing is that now you're aware of him.
Maybe at the beginning you weren't, but now you're familiar enough with the weight of his careful gaze. You can feel it burning your skin. Instead of being the object of his gaze, you feel like the watcher. Shan Yu observes you, just as you observe him. You like to play a little game: you put yourself on his place, and imagine what he's thinking about.
When you take care of your skin and he is so quietly doing nothing on the other side of the room, you like to imagine Shan Yu is trying to learn what to do if you ever ask him to help you. When you choose new clothes and you feel his eyes lingering on you from other side of the path, you like to pretend he's picturing you on them. When you read and he's hidden into the woods, you imagine him taking notes of what book he should gift you next. And when you're on a lake, you want Shan Yu to imagine you naked again.
Just as when he first meet you.
You don't swim without your clothes anymore, and you do it to make sure that his imagination will work on your favor. You ain't sure why, but him imagining you is way more interesting than him seeing you. To picture him picturing you is your little, constant sin.
But you would prefer if he joined you.
You miss his touch. Don't matter how long it have been since you were next to him, you miss Shan Yu. You always want him close to you. And when you miss him, the memories of your first kiss comes to haunt you.
It was an trap, one that his army fell right into. Usually the Hun army travels to battle, but this time it happened inside the camp. Kids, old people, workers that have nothing to do with that war: everyone was in danger.
Shan Yu knows you can fight, you train with his army, but that doesn't mean he will let you go with him to any battle. The thing is that this time he couldn't control the situation.
You wandered towards him, a sword in your hand and courage on your chest, knowing that he was doing the same.
Shan Yu kicked a man's legs, breaking it. His sword cut his throat open, but a scream came to his ears. When he turned, Shan Yu saw your sword passing throught a open chest. With blood staining your face, you let the body fall and looked at Shan Yu. "You're hurt?"
Shan Yu marched towards you, the world burning behind him, and pulled you by your waist. He almost took you off the ground, you supported yourself on him, and brushed the blood on your face. When he kissed you, it was like there were only you two in the world.
You felt his.
And now you want to be his. In every way. You'll never think that way if Shan Yu was a man from your village. You'll never be respected if you layed with someone before wedding them, don't matter how much you love one another or how bad you need to do that. That would never, ever happen.
But he isn't a man from your village. You're not there anymore. And you don't want to wait any longer.
When the camp was set close to a region filled with thermal water, you had an idea. Ond that you were too eager to ignore. Too hungry to not consider.
The guards walk you to a certain point, warning you that when the ring beels you'll have ten minutes to get there before they went looking for you. Feeling his gaze burning your skin, you did the rest of the path.
First you took your shoes off. You touched the water, it was so warm. So perfect. You carefully held the hem of your dress, pulling it out slowly. Step by step you dive into the water. With water brushing against your collarbone, you sat facing where you knew he was.
That was your invitation for Shan Yu to join you.
So you waited.
And waited.
But nothing happened.
Frustrated, you imagine what else would made him get of his secret place and just do something already. You closed your eyes, bite your lips, and then you found a answer.
Shan Yu makes you feel shiny and new. Free, but also owned. In control, and also controled. Shan Yu makes you fell like you have nothing to hide. So you didn't.
You weren't sure if he could see your fingers from so far away, so you made sure to keep your face still. You wanted him to see every fraction of a different expression. As your fingers pressed against your clit, for a second you felt like your moans could echo throught the whole wood.
After you came, your body shaking from pleasure and adrenaline, you dive into the water. You felt suddenly so embarrassed. Embarrassed for liking it so much. Embarrassed for not being even a little bit ashamed of what you just done.
You set a trap for him. Now it's with Shan Yu.
At dinner, you finally saw him. In a tent with all his generals, even when discussing important matters you could sense his eyes lingering on your skin.
"How long will we stay here?" You took a sip from your glass. "In this village."
Shan Yu breathe in before answering you. "Three more days."
You pouted. "What a shame. I liked this place. The woods here are so calm. And so lonely."
Shan Yu suddenly stand up, not worrying about excusing himself. You said something to the generals and asked one of his adivisors to take care for the rest of the night. Shan Yu was faster than you, but you saw him heading towards your shared carriage.
"Hey," you closed and locked the door. Shan Yu stopped in the middle of the room, his hands pressing against his head. Behind him, you put your hands on Shan Yu's shoulders, massaging his skin. "You're feeling unwell?"
Shan Yu sighed. You could feel his determination melting into your touching. It was a key to make him act as you wanted. All he wants is to be loved by you, and if you show him this love... "If only you knew the things you do to me."
You bit your lips, controling the smirk. "Are you mad at me, my sun?" You practically purred.
Shan Yu turned to you, his long hands holding your face. You felt so safe. So perfectly fine around him. "No, my moon," Shan Yu kissed your forehead. You almost felt guilty by teasing him so bad. "Never at you."
"Then I don't understand," you put your hands on his. "Why are acting this way? Maybe I can help you."
Shan Yu touched your forehead with his, and you closed your eyes. His breath was warm against your skin. You kissed his thumb.
"Drink with me."
You didn't knew if Shan Yu was asking or demanding. Either way, you nodded. You sat on your shared bed, and watched him serve you both from his personal wine.
"You told once me about a bad experience with a matchmaker," Shan Yu opened the bottle. He gazed over you for a second, then went back to the wine. "That made me wonder."
"About what?"
Shan Yu may be a lot of things, but he isn't a coward. He didn't fear your answer or your reaction, he wanted to hear the truth. So he asked for it. "You we're promised to someone?"
That wasn't what you were expecting to hear. "Yes," you admitted. "When I got old enough, my parents made a deal with his. We didn't got married because he was called to serve the emperor."
Shan Yu sat in front of you, handing you a glass. You took a sip of it, and hated the taste. Shan Yu like his drinks strong, but you prefer them sweet.
He caressed your feet, resting close to his thights. "Have you laid down with him?"
You tried the wine again. It was horrible still, but at least it had alcohol in it anyway. "Not with him," his fingers brushed against your legs. "Not with anyone else."
Shan Yu squeezed your skin lightly. "It's my duty to honor you, my moon." There were a different fire on his eyes. Something almost palpable. "Just as it's my duty to satisfy you."
"What you mean by that?" You knew exatcly what he meant.
"You're so young. It's normal for you to have needs. Desires," his cold fingers made to the sensitive spot behind your knees. "For you to want more from me."
"Is that why you are so nervous?" You drank the rest of the wine and put the glass on the floor. "Because you want more from me?"
Don't matter what, your words keep on surprising Shan Yu. You will never stop to amaze him. "Yes, my moon."
"If you want it so bad," you smiled. "Then take it."
Holding your legs, Shan Yu pulled you closer. He carressed your face, his fingers so cold against your skin. When he kissed you, all your worries and fears just disappeared. It was impossible to feel anything but love and lust.
His kiss moved to your chin, your cheeks, your earlobe. When you flinched, you felt his smile against your skin. Shan Yu kissed your neck, your shoulders, your hands.
Looking at you, glaring deep into your soul, Shan Yu made something burn inside you. You looked away, so he held you by your chin.
"Don't do that," Shan Yu brushed his fingers against your lips. "Let me see you."
"I don't know what to do," you revealed.
"You don't need to anything." Shan Yu carressed your face. "Come here," he tapped his thights. "Let me take care of you."
You crawled towards him, sitting on his lap. You supported yourself on your knees, your hands on his chest, not wanting to put all your weight on him.
Shan Yu grabbed your waist and pulled you down. He came back to kissing you, this time his hands wandering throught your body. One found a home on your hair, the other squeezed your waist. You put your arms around him, letting he get deeper into your mouth.
Shan Yu pulled the string of your clothes, revealing your body once again for him. His fingers brushed against your collarbones, circled your tits, held your hips. "The gods must envy your beauty," he whispered into your mouth.
He laid you down on the mattress. You felt weighless. So small in comparison to him. His hands went down your spine, nails scretching your skin lightly, and grabbed both of your legs. He opened them, and you never felt so exposed before.
One thing was to undress for him. Other was for him to undress you.
"Breath in," you did as he said. Shan Yu kneeled between your legs, and it was almost impossible to think. "Breath out," once again you behaved.
As his face got near your sex, his breath made you close your legs. He hold them, opening you for him again. He warned you with his yellow eyes.
Shan Yu licked you slowly. You trembled bellow him. His nose brushed against your lips, and you bite your fingers. He was so calm, so patient. His licked your lips, sucked your clit, used his tongue to stimulate you whole.
When you whimpered, Shan Yu got eager. He pulled you by your hips, getting you even closer, and his hands went up to your breasts. You moaned his name, and for a second he almost lost control.
He bite your inner thights, and then licked it. Your breath was already a mess. His tongue wandered through your tummy, your chest, your breasts. Shan Yu grabbed your hand, taking it off your mouth.
"I will hear you," he demanded. "Don't hide yourself."
You held him by his forearm. "I want you," you moaned. "Please."
Shan Yu could've cum just by the look on your face. "It will hurt," he said. As if you didn't knew. "You don't need to."
He closed his eyes, trying to regain control over himself. To feel your taste on his tongue, your smell on his upper lip, the warmth of you bellow him. Shan Yu felt like a starving man being welcomed home with a full supper.
But you are no something he wants to consume. Shan Yu wants to devour you, to know every inch of your skin and all that things that make your body tremble. But Shan Yu don't want to take from you something he will never be able to give you back just because he wants to. He needs you, but you need to be the one chosing to do this.
"I'll stop," he moved away from you. You felt incomplete without his weight upon you. "I must stop."
You put your legs around his hips, locking him with you. "Make me feel yours," you purred. Don't matter what you sounded like: were the one demanding now. You stroked his forearms, trying your best to find the words you need. "I'm starving. Don't go."
You had seem him shirtless before. At training, after a battle when blood stained his body, when he went to sleep. But to see him whole... that made you lick your lips.
He was big. So big. You almost regret ever doing that. But his cock also made you salivate, so you pretend that you weren't scared. You wanted him inside you. You wanted Shan Yu to make you whole.
Even if it hurts.
Shan Yu slid his cock on your lips, and you felt yourself getting wetter. So warm. It twitched against you. When he started to enter you, you closed your eyes. This time Shan Yu let it pass.
It burned. Your insides ache, and it's been just the beginning. He was so thick. After a few seconds without moving, Shan Yu tried again.
This time you whimpered. "Fuck," you cried. "Wait, I..."
"As you... wish," Shan Yu moaned against your neck. You were so tight. So warm. You would be the end of him. "Stop squirming."
"I'm sorry," you cried. You tried to move away from him, but Shan Yu held you in place. "I hurted you?"
He groaned. "No, my moon," he whispered. Shan Yu strucked the skin of your hips, trying to calm you down. He could already smell the blood. "Far from it."
You held his hands, trying to not get lost on your mind. "I don't think it will fit," you whimpered. "It's too big."
You really were trying to made him go crazy, weren't you? "I will make it fit."
After a few seconds, you nodded. Slowly, Shan Yu did as he said. He made it fit. And by doing that, he reached a point that even through all that pain made you roll your eyes. You tried to forget about that burning pain and focus on his cock pressing against that sweet point.
When his fingers brushed against your clit, you held him closer. Your nails digged into his back, and your teeths into his shoulders. Shan Yu didn't care about the pain. All he did was to hold your head as he moved slowly.
"I think I..." You couldn't do anything but to feel, and you felt so much. You were drooling. "Fuck, Shan Yu..."
"You were made for me," Shan Yu whispered into your ears. "Made for me to love, for me to fuck you."
Not a word he said made to your brain. You couldn't hear him. You couldn't do anything but to feel tortured by how he kept on hitting that spot again and again. If you cry, it won't because of the pain.
When you trembled, it was like you died for a second. The pleasure hit you in waves so much stronger than you. Maybe you cried his name. Maybe you screamed it. Maybe you bit your lips until they bleed. You don't know. All you know is that it was so good.
With you shaking bellow him, Shan Yu came inside you. He groaned like an animal, and maybe at that moment he really were one.
"I think I drooled all over you," you chuckled as you cleaned his shoulders with your hand.
Shan Yu held your hands and kissed them, looking deep into your eyes. "What do you need?"
"A bath," you carressed his lips.
Shan Yu watched as his cum covered your lips. Your used cunt glowed. Such a pretty sight.
He took you into his arms, your legs around his hips, and lift you from bed. You giggled, once again feeling so weighless around him.
"Then I shall bath you," he said softly.

Non BL Fan watches Only Friends
Hey. Yeah so I'm still on this. So when Only Friends ended, it left kinda of a bitter taste in my mouth. I liked a lot of things about it but by the end it really didn’t leave a good impression. There’s been a lot written about it, about expectations, and branded pairs, and how fandom may have played a role in this, and how the writing maybe because of that kinda took a turn midway through the show. And it kept bugging me that these opinions were also rooted in our understanding of this type of media, and everything that comes with it. Be it branded pairs, all the bls that came before or the industry as a whole. But I couldn't really have any perspective because I'm part of the problem. I'm too close. So, the only way for me to kinda get over this was to get someone far removed from this to watch it. And here is where my friend Neely comes in. They're not a bl watcher. The only bl they ever watched was Choco Milk Shake which I think we can all agree would not influence their viewing of Only Friends. They are however the only person who I talk to about bl, or the only person who has the patience to listen to me, whenever I’m feeling particularly annoyed about something or just wanna share a good moment. I immediately sent them the olive oil scene (with only a tiny bit of context) because it was so beautiful that I needed to scream with someone about it. So anyway, I asked them to watch the show. They knew a couple of things about it, because I complained to them about it at the time, but they has no reference for it so, I don’t think that I influenced the viewing that much. Also they're pretty unbiased about everything.
So last night they watched the first 4 episodes and I’d like to share their thoughts with everyone who like me might be curious. Because they're the best person ever, he wrote a whole text about it so I could share. Also we're almost at the end of the year and this might be the thing that finally closes this chapter for me. This is what they had to say after watching the first 4 episodes.
(I'll be adding my own thoughts in purple)
After 4 episodes, mostly I think it's really predictable plot wise for anyone who's watched a general TV western series, like a Netflix production, which I was maybe surprised. The ways to cause drama and plot advancement are very similar. Of cpurse this is me saying this based on the other BL I watched (Choco Milk Shake) which felt much more out of the expected canon.
Just to get this out of the way: they're all toxic and terrible people, to the extent I find it very hard to connect to any of them. Just in the exposure parts of ep1 there's all of them being horrible to Ray for being drunk – even though they also are? - and to top it up later on they're all drunk, and the woman (sorry I should know her name but it's not like they're giving her any storyline or screen time (aside from, I almost forgot, randomly spraining her ankle 😂) for me to remember) I thought that the fact that this was obvious to them from the beginning was very interesting because I maybe gave them more rope in the beginning to expand on her because I thought she was gonna get more later. she's even drunker it seems but they all fall on Ray only; they literally complain he wants another drink and judgementally go "ewww more drinks don't you think it's enough" and dig into his drinking, he leaves, and then they continue drinking? This got even darker to me when the suicide attempt is revealed, and from then it became really hard to consider them friends? Maybe Mew and Ray but the dynamics of that are anyway weird. This is something I myself struggled with all through the show, like how are these people even friends? and I understand the point illustrated by @bengiyo in this post but I still couldn’t get over that. And maybe that’s just the way I see friendships that these people looked even worse in my eyes. Like I cannot compute them treating Ray like that, even if they're done of his drinking, when they know where he's at emotionally. It also doesn't feel they ever tried to help him so I don't think they have the right to be done, just feels like they don't care.
Top, toxic from day one with this challenge attitude towards fucking the virgin; and the gross way he speaks about it with Boston. It's a big no from me to both of them. It's not even them hooking up for me, Top is just kinda sleazy, manipulative, hyper entitled, I do not take anything he says as truth because he just feels so double faced to me. Even just these episodes he's already shown so many cracks: hiding the hook up with Boston (which I'm beginning to feel was more than a hook up?), the whole random drug dealing thing, how he objectifies Mew like a virgin-trophy when talking to Boston, how he manipulates him and also his weird jealousy and control. Ok, this is where I admit I was completely wrong. I thought that way of seeing Top was very influenced by the promotional material and the way the crew and actors talked about the character. And yet, without any prior knowledge he immediately disliked him. I was not expecting that to be honest. And in this case maybe I just wanted the character to go in a different direction so I kept not seeing the pretty obvious red flags. I mean I saw them but tried really hard to look behind them. My bad. Although we could both agree that he’s gorgeous.
I don't like Mew, but I don't think it's the characters fault or how it's written. It's just the troupe of character writing, especially in gay shows, that I can't stand. It's kinda cancer vibes (astrology lol). A bit not necessarily overt but a general sense of holier than thou cause he's a virgin and "has standards". I don't think he's leading Ray on, I think he actually kinda communicates well he just wants friendship. He could be clearer but also this is TV, so we need slight unclearness for drama purposes lol, but I'm not mad about that. Miss communication is the bane of my existence but it apparently makes for compelling television. Or not.
But generally this hot fuck everyone guy falling for the kinda dorky virgin is so dull to me, this virgin is always this weird insert of purity, more often than not an insert where the writer in one way or another projects himself into, to be able to judge the rest of the community, the moral compass (read: normative in terms of society expectations, also kinda mildly Christian coded, like girl next door in the village), and I do always find it a bit queerphobic. I'm not saying there aren't queers like that and that they shouldn't be represented, but the very intense and obvious writing decisions to position him as this moral center (also visually he's always wearing whites and pastels? Virgin mew, Virgin Mary! Lol) that makes all the other characters, often queer, seem kinda dirty and mean and unprincipled. I have nothing to add here because I agree with them on most of this, and I also think that it was never a coincidence to have a virgin in the middle of this group, to serve as the barometer of right and wrong. Cause he's the pure one so he must know what's right. I disliked mew almost instantly when the show started, because I always thought he was just a terrible friend and that’s the greatest sin of all. A small note that I think it's hilariously dumb that he's been protecting his Virginity for all this time and so like "omg it's hard for me, omg I go slow, omg I have a check list" and then it's like "you drop coke I drop pants", virginity done lol. This was just funny and accurate.
I am not talking about Boston right now cause I hate him. And I also hate that they wrote the slut in such a cliche but I do think they did. I remember you saying something people attacking him too much and him being slut-shamed, but he's written as villain quite clearly. Lol I think he's leading mobile phone shop guy on, it's very player manipulation vibe to be always giving him just a bit more to keep him going and the promise of something more open, when we know he just wants to fuck, and especially fuck when he's butt hurt about Top and Mew. And the way he's treating Mew, terrible friend; and also the advances on Top are far from boundary and consent-based lol. But also Top doesn't feel very interested in getting out, he just weirdly stands there silent being licked in the neck, so I blame both on that whole thing. I have to say that I never really read the shower scene like others might have, like obviously Boston was being terrible to Mew in that moment and not respecting Top's boundaries, but I also didn't see Top as helpless in this moment.
I think the only pair that gets away with actually being cute and not toxic and manipulative is Sand and Ray, they're my faves. Yey!! I find them very endearing and with so much chemistry. They're the only characters who honestly genuinely said sorry to each other and had some accountability when they fucked up with each other.
Even tho I'd like a bit more from Sand about the whole "burden to society" comments at the start - they annoyed me so much. The others it's manipulation after manipulation for me, and it doesn't allow me to get into them so it feels like deep lack of chemistry. Top and Mew's relationship feels really really really meh to me. And I don't know why they're friends, also cause very little of them as friends gets shown after ep1. Well they have the school project that keeps them together but other than that really, why? As I explained above I really struggled with the friendship aspect of all this.
But generally, I feel like the editing and writing are very like Mew is amazing and the others are horrible, and we do just get scenes of everyone being shit and Mew not being great but being naive and cutesy with a hint of superiority. Also you're a virgin your not a thumb stone, give your boyfriend a kiss sometimes. I thought this comment was hilarious but also obviously from a non bl watcher because that didn’t register to me, because I’m so used to boyfriends being so shy around kissing in bl that it didn't even cross my mind.
I think I'm slightly meh by all of them but partly is maybe my expectations too - I knew this one specifically was a bit westernized, but I was nurturing this little idea that it would feel a bit different, that some of the ways things were explored would feel different because of the cultural differences, but I do think you could sub all of the actors for white us-americans and the script would fly, you could probably even set it in a progressive state in the us and wouldn't have to re-write much.
So, I might totally be talking out of my ass, but what I'm left thinking is: is there really no culturally specificity to queer community there? is really all queerness and promiscuity in Thailand this performance of the west? Maybe it is, because of different social rules and expectations and freedoms, I really am not knowledgeable enough, but I'm just wondering if it's that or if it's just being made to be more palatable to me. And I think that's fine as a choice for them to know target audience, but I'm left wondering how the actual scene is in Thailand, what the social pressures are there and how they navigate them, specifically at this nexus of queerness and promiscuity. I also don’t know enough about the culture in Thailand to speak about it but I do agree with the point that this show could be made in us tv and they really wouldn’t need to change much. Without knowing anything about the creators of ofts, aside from the fact that they’re queer, they said later that they would compare it to something that Ryan Murphy could produce.
_
After I read this I had a chance to video chat with them briefly , and there were a couple more things that came up that I thought were really interesting. they were asking me about the actors and how well known they were, etc. Because they thought that the characters were purposefully being shown as really flat, and just bad with no redeemable characteristics and that maybe because the fandom already knew them and already liked them, they could do that without needing to waste time making us care for them, by giving us their good sides. Which I never really considered, but as with most things, our prior knowledge might play a part in this too. I know at least for me, I'm not gonna lie, the fact that I like Khaotung definitely made me care for Ray from the start in a way that maybe I wouldn't normally have.
Anyway, they'll continue to watch it and I'll probably post more of thoughts in the future. I also started to rewatch it slowly so I'll definitely keep thinking about this. If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. 💜

on the whole disabled scar discussion and coming from someone who's chronically ill and a fellow wheeler,
fully agree that it's okay to change the disability, especially considering that scar himself has been general with his conditions (etc not giving a specific disorder)
and it's so important for people to make c!Scar physically disabled too imo. it's so annoying watching the narrative of "his character isn't disabled!" and then excusing it for oh disabilities are hard to draw/write, wheelchairs are difficult to include, tubes are hard to write
then... learn?
if you want to write a character who happens to be disabled, you don't just throw yourself in. you learn how it works and hear others perspectives.
like i personally project a LOT when i write Scar, i'll write his experiences to mirror my own and even then i do a lot of research to ensure i'm not misrepresenting. i find no issue with people doing the same or taking creative liberty when it comes to "cc! scar has a nmd but when i write c!scar he's a potsie with comorbid disorders"
and imo he should always be a wheelchair user, whether ambulatory or not. it's so ??? to make a character who is a non-ambulatory wc user suddenly only need a cane (many even doing it where he only needs it every now and then). it's not hard to make the minecraft world seem accessible/possible for someone physically disabled when the same minecraft world has shit like watchers, dragons, endermen. like brother if you can write about grian having avian instincts then you can write(+draw! as a writer i'm probably focussing on that side a bit much) about disabilities+experiences that are well documented/taught on
i am hARD rambling here but i'm just grateful this shit is being discussed bc this community is riddled with ableism (and fatphobia etc)
I really appreciate your perspective! Thank you!
I'm an ambulatory cane user so I'm always eager to hear from wheelchair users on their perspectives. I worry sometimes that I'm being a bit too dramatic on this, but it's really good to hear your opinion on the matter too!!

Sorry for my bad English
I don't know if I'm a very bitter person, but I get slightly irritated when I see people shove cubito Wilbur into canon even when there's nothing to it, more because the way people word it in tweets is so... ((for example, people saying that the only connection that Philza and Quackity have is Wilbur))
People saying that the watcher person was certainly Wilbur and that there was no one else to be made me so >:/
And now, some tweets appeared on my tl saying that Bagi's brother could be Wilbur and there were people agreeing and I was like "??????? what xd". They were saying that her brother being Cellbit was too obvious but like... It's silly to be annoyed by it but I just can't understand it
I’ll admit I also made a “Wilbur is Bagi’s brother lol” joke a couple days ago just to be silly (I also made a post that Cellbit is actually the brother’s worm all grown up) but like obviously I’m not going with it and people who are kinda confuse me because?
On a meta level, this is Huge Personal Lore, there’s no way Bagi or the admins would just stick two random people together and say they’re siblings and write a whole backstory for someone without them being involved, and there’s almost no way that like. Wilbur would be involved in something like this with how busy he’s been lol, and with how Bagi and Wilbur literally don’t know each other.
And in rp, it’s just a silly idea because like. This brother, even as a child, has so many unique little quirks that Wilbur does NOT have. It’d make more sense for Tubbo to be the brother if it had to be a non-Brazilian brother.
As a writer and as someone with some critical thinking skills, I think that an obvious answer is sometimes the most not obvious answer. Because everyone’s scrambling to find someone else that isn’t Cellbit, they’re missing everything that points to it being him, Cellbit included, and that’s interesting! Sometimes the curtains really are just blue, and that’s fine. Sometimes things are obvious for a reason, maybe the easy part is supposed to be finding the brother and the hard part is supposed to be figuring out how/why he disappeared. That’s interesting storytelling!
Also I’m just sick of everyone cramming Wilbur Cubito in everywhere like I’m sorry your favorite white boy isn’t the star of the show in this series, he might come back eventually, but also? Chill lol

3.40 Chin up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day had to be the most confusing and upsetting day I ever experienced. It started out nicely with a good breakfast and conversation with Dad. I told him about my impromptu date the night before, and of course he wanted to know how I felt about it. I enjoyed being able to talk to someone about these things without judgment or pushing their agenda on me. Every day, Dad became more and more like my best friend. After breakfast, I got ready for work and gave myself an extra positive pep talk. Little did I know how much I'd need it.
Tumblr media
When I arrived at the spa to start my class, one was already in session. And guess who was the instructor. The rude girl from the other day!
Tumblr media
I stood in the doorway, watching for a few minutes, shocked and confused about what I had witnessed. The old geezer finally retired, and I should have been next in line. Were they just gassing me up? If I wasn't up to their standards, they could have just told me! I knew I wasn't the best and had room for improvement. I didn't go to school and study wellness. Everything I did, I copied from SimTube and tried to put my spin on it. Why not just give me pointers or tell me I wasn't what they were looking for instead of hiring someone behind my back? And to find out this way? They could have given me a heads up or something. I felt like a failure, even though part of me knew it wasn't really my fault. I was the best I could be at the moment and gave it my all. There wasn't much else I could have done differently. This craft was a journey with no destination, and there was no "best" to ascribe to. We ascribed to be better than we were yesterday. The spa was just not managed well, and I got caught up in their mess. I knew that, but it still hurt.
Tumblr media
At least I still had guided meditations: the thing no one seemed to want to own. There was less money and interest in it, though I usually had better turn outs than my yoga classes. But it was still a paying gig I could do until I figured out how to host my own classes in the evenings. Speaking of, the forecast was finally in my favor, and I had a class advertised for that evening at the rec center.
As if I needed someone else to kick me while I was down, I only had one participant that day, and he outright told me I had no business teaching that class. I already knew that, but I didn't need someone confirming it. Not that day. To add insult to injury, I received an intriguing yet confusing offer from Yasmine.
Tumblr media
She called just as my hater left, and I answered, hoping she'd cheer me up. I suppose I should have been flattered, but that was not my first feeling. She wanted to follow up on our conversation about non-exclusive relationships and asked if that's something I'd like to explore with her. I don't know how long I left dead air on the phone, but at some point I realized she was saying hello and calling my name over and over.
"I'm here," I said.
Everything inside warned me to say no to this. A relationship of that type was the complete opposite of what I wanted, and I didn't want to be in a formal relationship at the moment, anyway. Still, I had to understand exactly what she asked of me.
"What would that mean? I mean...what does a non-exclusive relationship look like?"
A huge sigh assaulted my ears. She came to me with that nonsense, but she was annoyed?
"It means we'll be official, but we can keep dating other people. No strings, no jealousy."
She wanted me to be okay with my girlfriend flirting with other men and Watcher knows what else? I felt like someone played a sick joke on me. There was no way I'd agree to anything like that.
"If I decline, what does that mean for us? You won't want to hang with me anymore?"
"We can still kick it."
"If I accept, will there ever be a point where you'd agree to be exclusive?"
Tumblr media
There was that sigh again.
"I mean...I don't know. Maybe. I guess it would depend on how I feel about you at the time."
I couldn't help but shake my head at the phone.
"I'm sorry, Yasmine. This isn't at all what I want. No disrespect to you, but I'm gonna have to decline."
"Alright."
"I have another class to get ready for. I'll talk to you soon, okay?"
"Later."
That was a half-truth. My class didn't start for another few hours, and my head was spinning. The spa had a hot spring in the basement, so I went down there to mellow and sort out my feelings.
Tumblr media
I couldn't get Yasmine's offer out of my head. It was utterly ridiculous, and I would never put myself in a situation to be cheated on repeatedly, even though it wouldn't technically be cheating. But there was a small part of me that wouldn't completely reject the idea. That was probably the same part of me that was horny all the time, if I was honest. That day she sashayed into class in that super tight outfit and claimed the yoga mat in front of me, a hunger unleashed in me I'd never experienced. I kept it together most days, but at night, salacious dreams tormented me. Dreams about all of them. I was reaching the point where I might crack, and who knew how reckless I'd be trying to feed the beast. Maybe this ridiculousness with Yasmine could be the answer. But why did it have to be a relationship? Couldn't we just be friends who woohoo? She'd probably be down for that. A relationship was far too serious for us. I wanted to enter an official relationship with someone I could see myself marrying one day. Like Sophia! And maybe even Maira. If I'm honest, I didn't really see that with Yasmine. But it could also be because I didn't know her well enough yet. I shouldn't write her off completely for that. Everyone deserved a fair chance, and I wanted to give them that, so when I felt like it was time to choose, I'd be confident in my decision. But there was something to be said about gut feelings, and my gut said this was not it.

Warning for minor body horror (Mentions of players removing skins, which are like onesies in this 'fic universe + injury / dragon bites)
In my Pixels Imperfect universe, frustration that you're still holding onto manifests as a glowing scar. Specifically, a scar all the way down to your soul level, meaning it glows through any new skin you put on. This is called a soul wound.
Martyn's the poster child for soul wounds being visible, since this is his in-universe parallel of IRL Martyn's Eyes and Ears lore.
In this image I drew for Dog's Life Chapter 26, "Ignite," you can see Martyn's cheek and collarbone scars (paralleling 3rd Life and Double Life respectively).
Tumblr media
In a lore video, Martyn and his audience agreed that Martyn has his Last Life mark on the back of his right shoulder to represent being backstabbed (iirc), and we know from his Limited Life finale that he was cured of his right hand mark. His Secret Life mark hasn't happened at this point in the timeline, and also I don't think I know where it is.
In Eyes and Ears canon, I believe his scars glow purple to reflect the Watchers. In Pixels Imperfect, they glow white.
Cleo also has a wound, which is a massive dragon bite in her side. My pencil drawings don't make it obvious, but it's why her shirt hooks up like this and/or why she often takes off her shirt- the bite wound chafes sometimes and it just feels better to take it off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cleo's wound isn't as exciting as it sounds: They were helping to build New Star Station in its starter base days, but strayed too close to the Slime Dragon's guppies and got bit. They're fine, but lost a chunk of vessel data. You can put your hand in it and there will be resistance, but if you push through it, it's empty.
Their body is kind of like a milk gallon in the sense that it's shaped different than a glass of milk. It still holds everything it needs to (i.e. their vessel holds their soul without leaking), but their soul now follows the shape of the "gallon," which has a gap in it (like a milk gallon does for a handle).
What this also means is that Cleo can pull their shirt down over the wound and the shirt will still respond to their body's shape, because the shirt still registers it as body even though it's white energy.
Scar's chronic glitch works the same way- He can still use his arm, leg, or any other body part that glows blue, but it strains him and causes soreness or pain until the glitch moves to a different part of his body. The limb is there and can function... but it hurts, is weaker than usual, and sometimes it's so hard to get it to function that the limb is effectively non-functional.
Cleo's wound doesn't shift like his glitch, but it's the same principle: it's a phantom zone that her body treats as if it's sort of there, but she's also not going to lie on that side long-term because it would get sore. It's like an open wound, so lying on the dirt risks dirt particles pushing through their wound and ending up inside their body. Most people would prefer that doesn't happen, but Cleo's okay because they're a zombie and have a thing for being buried alive.
BigB also got bitten by a dragon. However, he took damage in a sensitive area that makes it difficult to breathe. This is the reason why he modded from an illusioner into a moth hybrid, which breathes through spiracles down his sides instead of down the throat.
Impulse's scar was a brief point of tension in my one-shot "Like Newlyweds Do," when being soulmates gave Bdubs Impulse's soul wound:
And even in the twilight, with lanterns dim, he can see the little mark he's searching for in the proper place on his husband's arm, too. Bdubs stands before the mirror, craning his neck to see his reflected back. His fingers trace along his skin. Impulse watches from the bed, face half-buried in his folded arms. If his tail were out, it would be ticking back and forth, counting out the seconds before Bdubs asks him why he never fixed that scar behind his right shoulder. "I like it," Bdubs says, prodding the old gash with one finger. It's white, glowing faintly. "I've got a clock from you and you've got this from me." In that moment, Impulse wishes he could kill on green.
Pixels Bdubs is a very interesting character to me. He's loud, proud, and not easily shut down. He also denies his own issues all the time.
During Dog's Life, Bdubs gains a lip scar after he and Impulse have a huge fight about the Day 1 Crew alliance betrayal. Impulse cuts his lip with his sword; it's later revealed that Bdubs is confused as to why this scar is sticking, when he "doesn't think that fight was a big deal."
Here's Chapter 12 Bdubs (no lip scar) + Chapter 30 Bdubs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's subtle, but it's there.
Etho's eye scar is part of his skin design- It's not a soul wound. Etho has no backstory for his scar because it's just always been there on the skins he wears. It's blue and doesn't glow (Injuries lead to energy leakage, and the energy is white or blue in this universe depending on depth).
Here's the image that goes with "Canadian Idiot"-
Tumblr media
And Joel's mark there was just "recent damage" because this was a Double Life 'fic about Etho's fox instincts and aggro kicking in through the soulbond when Joel takes damage, so Etho was lashing out at Joel and/or himself every time he got hurt.
I can't believe I wrote a huge 'fic centered around Etho repeatedly biting Joel's neck 2 months before we got the "neck kisses" gag. I'm so sorry, Joel... I was just writing about fox aggro and a fox's instinct involving teeth instead of a weapon, I swear... it wasn't supposed to have a double meaning...
In a one-shot titled "The Man He Sets His Spawn With," most of the cast stripped off their skins in the server hub's locker room / shower house and had Grian blast them with a power washer to rinse the Secret Life mod off. Bdubs was our POV character and we learned some interesting things:
He pushes forward. Souls blur together, blue and overlapping, and the glowing doesn't help with the identity stuff like at all. He can pick out Tango (facing away from him) by the enormous white gash scarred down his right shoulder. Not pointing fingers, but that one's a Bdubs original. You're welcome for helping you look so cool, you're turning heads. Martyn's got smaller scars - little diamonds - that glow in fragments here and there across his soul. There's an arrow wound in his belly, though that one's hard to see when he's wearing skins… or, y'know. Clothes. Can't take credit for that one, though, because that's all Scar from a particularly brutal perma-death back in 3rd Life that still leaves Martyn jumpy today (so Bdubs has self-observed). And Impulse has an arrow mark just like that behind his shoulder… but then, Impulse has scars and patched-up bits of code everywhere. That's nothing new. What's one more?
- Tango's got a soul wound from Bdubs betraying him in Last Life. He's totally buddy-buddy with Bdubs and they're friends, it's fine, but Tango hasn't quite let it go.
- Martyn has an arrow wound in his belly. This is a nod to Double Life. Shortly before Cleo drowned, taking their yellow life, Martyn saw Scar coming towards him, screamed, and took off as fast as he could, yelling "No, no, no!" and that he's "Not dying to you [Scar] again."
Interestingly enough, the only time Scar ever killed Martyn up to that point was when he perma-killed him in 3rd Life; Martyn's reaction seems to imply Character Martyn has trauma around that.
Bdubs doesn't seem to care that he's responsible for giving several of his friends soul wounds, which makes it funnier that he gets super annoyed in Dog's Life when he gets the lip scar.
Bdubs is the kind of person who'd see the scar and then spin around or walk backwards while slapping at his lip over and over, trying to wipe it off. He refuses to admit he has issues with it.
Bdubs actually has another scar, but it's somewhere on his back (and under his clothes) where he can't easily see it. The Phantom Dragon's whole thing is that she spreads her babies to all the server hubs by dropping them off and leaving, but little Bdubs refused to go, so he just clung to her the whole time until she finally did ditch him in Underdark Crossing, where he met Cleo.
If you ask him about it, he'll spin a story about how it was all his idea to go solo and that's what makes him a good captain. He has huge issues with it, though, because his mom totally dumped him and he's not over it.
Martyn's also a phantom, but he never went through that because he was adopted by hybrids as an egg. Bdubs gets very jealous when his friends talk about having a good relationship with their moms. Secretly, he likes how Etho's mom also picked him up by the scruff and dumped him in New Star. It's something they have in common, though Bdubs will never admit it.
Bdubs probably has a lot of deep-seeded resentment towards Martyn being adopted, because supposedly he's "told Martyn horror stories about the phantom nesting hub" and may or may not have played a role in poisoning Martyn's relationship with the Phantom Dragon.
Also, at the end of Dog's Life Chapter 32 ("Starve"), we learned that SnifferMyFeet has a huge X-shaped scar on his back from each shoulder to hip, crossing both his Grian and Joel halves. Still working through the good ol' body possession trauma.
Tango specializes in aesthetic mods and one of the things he does is help people make their scars more subtle. You can't scrap them forever - you have to let go of your frustration to do that - but you can lower their intensity.
As an allay hybrid / fey, Scott can gather your memories of what happened to cause a soul wound, but you'll never be able to work through the issues, so you'll be left with a scar and won't remember why it's there or how to get rid of it.
Hmm... Who do I know who has a backstory they want to forget and got confused when Scott referenced something from their past that they didn't have an answer for...?

I feel like the ot7 "love all members equally" became such line pushed from some of the fandom in response to solos acting up and attacking anyone who they thought/think doesn't support the member they stan. It was almost a direct response to the "fake ot7, you're a ot6 or x member anti" that has become such a copy paste attack, so it almost became a copy paste response.
A world where each solo work is as equally supported or successful was unrealistic to anyone not too caught up in stan life. Taking member popularity out of the equation, even Bts songs perform differently and have different success levels depending on the actual song type, the release strategy etc. I think some people forget that despite army being massive they are not a hive mind for one, but also Bts have a lot of fans who aren't actively engaged in online fandom life or stan culture. Casual listeners, people who consider themselves fans, but don't spend any time online in kpop spaces, general music fans who like them. People like to put all their success on fandom, which yes Army play a massive role in, but they end up being very dismissive of the mystical gp people talk about so much. Bts have general music fans as listeners. If army was singularly responsible for everything then every bts song would perform as well as if not better then the previous and we know that in itself isn't true. It was the goto after Dynamite and Butter to treat anything not reaching those levels as a failure. If we can acknowlege their own group songs perform less well (well less well by chart watchers anyway) by being a korean ballad over an upbeat pop song, then that also extends to their solo releases as well. Infact most music artists have songs that hit and songs that miss charting wise despite having their own fanbases to help push them.
It's also perfectly normal for people to have preferences. Nobody loves each bts song equally. People prefer different genres and will act accordingly. Personally I'm more rapline biased so I naturally prefer and listen to their solo music more. On opposite side I've never really connected with Taes solo music prior to chapter 2. Does it mean I hate him? No it just means I have a musical preference.
People criticise army for being brainwashed and mindlessly supporting everything whether they like it or not, then criticise army for not being brainwashed and letting preferences show.
I guess my point is that we can't say Bts have broken through beyond kpop meaning getting on the radar of non kpop fans and then try and pin everything about them at this point onto only their kpop fandom. There's a difference between being a stan and being a fan and Bts don't just have stans they have fans. Look at how wonderfully diverse army can be from race, gender, age etc and you think all those people are sitting on twitter or tiktok? That every single butt that fills those stadiums also has an online stan account? It might come as a shock to solos, but even people whe might like one members solo music won't automatically develop a hatred towards their group and other members because general music fans are not hyper competitive in that way.
It's like Yoongi talks about people seeing the world in black and white, when most people are grey. Stans, certain factions of army, solos etc they see things about Bts, the members, Army and achievements in black and white, but there are many Army or general Bts fans that exist in the grey area and the grey area isn't a hive mind so people need to stop expecting the actions and results of one.
Anyway sorry for my rant, it's not directed at you bpp because I feel like you'll understand what I'm saying. I've been thinking about it for a while and its a topic you've been discussing recently, so it just came out.
***
Yeah, I get what you mean and agree for the most part.
I'll copy-paste what I said in the replies earlier:
"The notion of ‘equal in every way every time’ is a mantra that actually comes from solo stans, that ARMY started mirroring back because in group systems, nuance isn’t well communicated. The reality is that while all the guys are equally responsible for the group’s success and should get similar support over the course of their careers, the nature of that support will likely change depending on year/era/concept etc. It requires us to focus more on ‘equity’."
I don't really blame the fandom because I understand it's easier to say 'treat the members equally' when what you actually mean to say is 'Recognize all the members contribute equally to the group and should get your support if you claim to support BTS within your means, preferences, and ability, no matter how that support looks like. Also, 'support' doesn't mean interloping their team and management to push your own preferences on them if what you see isn't what you like.'
BigHit has always seemed to highlight different members or sub-units of members in different eras, rather than equal focus on all seven all the time. It's like the line distribution discourse: they select different members to use in different ways depending on the song. Someone doing only adlibs could just as much to add to the quality of the song as someone with half the lines. Like I've said, BTS is a team, a utility tool, or a room of weapons that they all decide on strategically using to elevate the whole group from time to time. From my observation it was:
JK + rapline - 2013
Jimin + rapline - 2014 - 2015
Jimin + Jungkook - 2016 - 2017
Taehyung + Seokjin - 2018
Seokjin + OT7 - 2019
Jimin - 2020
Taekook - 2021
JK / OT7 or Chapter 2 - 2022 till date
It doesn't mean the other members were being 'mistreated' during those times either despite the akgaes of those members being absolutely convinced this was happening. BTS is just continuing in Chapter 2 a pattern they've showed throughout their career. All the members' debuts have been of outstanding quality and have been some of the best releases this year. It's clear the members ideas drove the music, concept, and presentation, and they're all reflecting on how to improve based on the feedback they've received. That to me is the most important thing in Chapter 2, and why I simply cannot force myself to be worried for them. That also would not have been possible under a company that's looking to stifle them or limit their potential. It's simply not how these things work here. Jungkook and Seven is the weapon they've decided to use this time and I hope they're successful.
"People criticise army for being brainwashed and mindlessly supporting everything whether they like it or not, then criticise army for not being brainwashed and letting preferences show."
Like I keep saying, it's a myth that people in the fandom are being coerced to support everything BTS releases. The fact is everyone here does what they want, and the overwhelming support BTS gets is because they have that many fans who genuinely like what they put out and want to support it. The results frankly speak for themselves and many narratives from multis, mantis, akgaes, and other k-pop stans, haven't matched the reality for a long time. The only reason it's still spread is two reasons: copium and hate.
*
It doesn't surprise me that the fandom is in this state tbh. I did a poll three months ago asking when people joined the fandom, and it showed ~60% of the responders joined after 2020. And many of these people are in jikook spaces (given I posted the poll on my blog) so I'd assume many could be very heavily biased to one or two members, and that's usually a pre-cursor to becoming a full-blown akgae unless someone actively de-radicalizes themselves. The only limiting factor for that transformation, is time.
I've been getting an ask from an acct for months asking the same thing. It's like they copy-paste the exact same ask into my inbox at the same time every week. I've never replied. One time they slipped up and posted the ask without being anonymous, so I saw their profile. This person was asking me why people in the fandom hate Jimin, how there were many OT6s, how they think I'm one myself, how they didn't understand how someone as sweet as Jimin would have people dislike him much less hate him. I looked at that person's profile, saw their following list filled with self-avowed PJMs whose blogs were more about 'Tedros', 'Payolakook', 'arrogant, selfish, stingy Yoongi and Namjoon', 'useless Seokjin', and 'sweet j-hope' (I'll come back to this), than anything about Jimin, his words, and his art. In fact, j-hope who was initially lauded on one blog as Jimin's only true friend in BTS (it doesn't escape me how he's had the furthest debut time from Jimin), was a fave until someone pointed out how he 'hogs' the dancer position in BTS and that he actually released On The Street close to FACE, and then Hobi became an asshole too according to those PJMs lmaooo. Like, these people just have such a simplistic, juvenile approach to BTS that I'd assume they were children, if not for the fact we see the same thought process play out in our politics - the realm of so-called adults.
Looking at that account's posting history, it was clear this person likely wouldn't think of themselves as a solo stan. Maybe just someone with a heavy bias who 'doesn't want to be in an echo chamber', or feels interacting with that part of the fandom is necessary to properly support their bias, or who wants to see frequent updates related to their biases; but it amused me how they could not draw a connection between their actions, their tolerance of hate towards members they don't think are as important/talented/etc as Jimin, and the state of the fandom towards the member they like. Like, do they think they're the only 'heavily biased ARMY' who casually scrolls pages that treat their bias like a god but nitpicks and tear down other members for real and perceived slights? Do they not see how they are creating the very problem they're observing? A lot of people are comfortable with supporting relentless 'criticism' or flat out hate thrown at other members (maybe even a member that person also doesn't like), but then act surprised that someone else in the fandom is just as comfortable with that mindset towards their bias. These people are mirrors of the exact same behaviours they say they hate, just towards the members they don't care about.
It's one of the most curious, hilarious, cognitive dissonances I see in these parts tbh.
But anyway, unless there's something drastic that splinters the ease with which people like this can stay and move around in the fandom, the situation will only worsen towards a full implosion. And if JK indeed gets a nomination, I'll be very happy. For many reasons. But the tantrums and resulting chaos will be a pain. If he doesn't get a nom, the heaving sighs of relief from the fandom too will be a separate problem loool. And then, *gasp* another k-pop act snagging the nomination and/or winning? Might as well become a prepper and plan for Armageddon.
Fun times ahead for the Purple Bloods! :)

in relation to the ask you got about zutara loosing popularity—i say this as someone who’s been a zk stan for almost ten years now, but the ship was never that popular outside of fandom culture you can find on tumblr, twitter, old forums, fanfic sites, etc. i joined an atla facebook group some years ago and had to leave because of the totally unwarranted hatred people had for zutara. honesty, i think some people underestimate the huge impact atla had and still has on non-fandom people. everyone loves it. the ‘normie’ fanbase is made up for a solid % of cishet men who are indeed misogynistic and homophobic, and not because they don’t ship zutara so they must be bad. i mean, have you seen all the hatred characters like katara and korra get for simply being humans with flaws? that’s mostly cishet men talking. zukka also is massively popular on twitter, tumblr and ao3, and that is because this specific fandom culture is known for not really caring about canon—yet i read some nasty stuff about them. i personally am not a fan of the ship but certainly not because they’re gay. but a lot of ‘normie’ atla stan’s are dudebros who can’t stomach the fact that a beloved male character of theirs can be gay.
fandoms might seem huge from the inside, but it’s a small group as opposed to the many people that consume a piece of media and then just… move on. that’s the reality with every big non-canon ship, not only zk. spend a day in the hp fandom and you may end up thinking everyone is crazy about drarry, dramione and wolfstar—but casual watchers don’t care about any of those, and though i don’t know the numbers, youtube is a huge platform, so i think it’s safe to assume that casual watchers outnumber fandom people.
yep, i agree. i've only been in zutara fandom since early 2021, but having been in a variety of different fandoms since 2013, there is a really major difference between how fandom works and general audience works for the same media property. it's just a natural consequence of the significant disparity in interest and passion.
and like you said, it's also extremely difficult for zutara fandom to exist in fandom spaces outside of tumblr. i've never been on facebook, but that sounds like an awful experience, and sadly unsurprising. instagram, tiktok and reddit in particular are just horribly toxic cesspits that love to hate on zutara and zutara shippers at any opportunity, and though i'm not on twitter, i've seen enough of the drama that goes down there to know it's probably not much better. tumblr is pretty much the safest space for zk fandom (which is saying a lot, given the levels of hate and harassment here alone) so obviously polls conducted on sites with a low presence of zk fandom are going to be skewed against zutara.
that's why i don't really care how well we do in polls or how popular we are. i would ship zutara even if it was just me, myself and i against the world lmao. having this wonderful community that is constantly creating and collaborating and enjoying the ship together is just a lovely bonus.

S2E3 thoughts:
They absolutely fucking FACEPLANTED. Fully shit the bed. on the pacing for Nynaeve's arch challenges. I'm going to talk about this to distract myself from the loss of My Boy Uno. Let me explain:
The core of the arches is to stare down the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future and beat the shit out of them. Aspiring Accepted are meant to look at the regrets, the wrongs, and the joys of a life they could've led and say "No, the ring and shawl mean more to me." THAT is the point. The way out (which astute readers and watchers alike may remember "comes but once") must come when there's a reason to stay in the dream for this to work.
That is not what they fucking did in the episode.
This isn't about divergence from the books, this isn't about my own personal preference; this is about the show establishing a concept and then just drop-kicking it backwards into a wastewater treatment pond.
First dream gets a soft pass. What the hell was she gonna do there? Go upstairs and get killed/kidnapped? I dunno, it was just weird and didn't set up the nature of the challenge very well.
Second dream, we see a problem. The way out only appears after we've implicitly established that there's nothing Nynaeve can do to help. What the hell's the point of that? Of course she's capable of walking away! The show used its visual language to explain very explicitly that Nynaeve can't Heal here and consequently can't do anything to help, then uses regular language to tell us she's not wanted there (bearing in mind that she doesn't really even know how to Heal at this point in the books, so it'd be an herb situation anyway). This is mostly how it goes in the books, sure, but because of the placement of the Healing attempt, there's basically nothing more for her to do at that point besides sit by Tam's side and watch him die. This would've been more potent if there was absolutely any inkling that there was more she could do to fix the situation.
Third dream is the faceplant. I'll tell you what should've happened and you'll agree with me: the arch should have appeared as she watched the boys die, then she should've had to go through it as she watched the Trollocs go into the house after her daughter. Waiting until almost everything was lost, then letting her try to carry her daughter to safety, makes it a non-choice. There was literally no incentive to stay.
There's genuinely nothing wrong with Nynaeve's characterization in this whole sequence. I actually love it dearly. I just think they went 0 for 3 on a very crucial part of the pacing of the sequence.
Anyway.
Mat's fun still. It's super weird how much less antsy he is than his book counterpart--or, at least, how much that antsiness is channeled into smaller physical tics rather than large-scale paranoia and anxiety. I haven't gotten a grip on what'll be driving him yet, but the show is doing a good job telling me that they'll set that up soon. They'd fucking better, at least.
I'm getting weirded out by the power dynamics in the Tower--unpopular or not, Liandrin has absolute authority over the girls in the books by virtue of her status, and turning that on its head in the show just so Egwene and Nynaeve can have more effective rebel moments feels super odd. I don't understand why they're doing it that way. Egwene's confrontation with Liandrin at the ring melter was more confusing than, like, cool.
Rand's plotline is wonderfully paced for a whole-ass different show. His whole shit is going so slowly compared to everyone else's (except Mat) that it's just jarring to cut back to him having made next to zero progress. Arguably the most jarring part is that his goals are unclear right now. I'm speaking from my girlfriend's perspective here, who has not read the books: how the hell did Rand track down Logain, how the hell did he figure out this plan, how the hell did Selene get them into that party, etc. etc. NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING because I'm thinking it too. I fucking know how, don't worry. And my girlfriend can wait to find out, don't worry. The problem isn't that these things aren't been spoon-fed to you, it's that everything else is. Rand's arc in this season is creating a lot of pacing dissonance; it's running so much more slowly and steadily than the other characters' lightning-quick plot sprints that it just feels out of place. Great in isolation, confusing in context.
Perrin's plotline was HRRRRRRGHGHGK
We don't talk about Uno. Do not say his fucking name around me for at least three weeks. I need some time.

hi! i was wondering how you felt about that "one" scene in winx club that was banned? did the scene go differently in the original italian version?
as a black girl who loves winx, it was sad for me to see </3 im just curious how the reception in other places was
Hi there! First of all, I have the banned episode from this ancient Mondo DVD, since it's been taken down from youtube and other streaming services, even in italian. I will sub this ep regardless of the infamous scene, since I don't think there's anything controversial outside of that
In short, TLDR, in my humble opinion, the scene is racially insensitive and overly meanspirited from the heroines we should root for. The average italian kid didn't think much of it when it aired and re-ran, Italian adults lack the cultural context of black hair outside the country so most didn't understand the complaints and non-white italians did not seem to make any noise about this online. If anybody can prove me wrong is welcome to provide sources that I missed.
More under the cut!
There was some disco resurgence in the early 2000s around, in Italy and Japan, so that's what inspired the scene, likely.
Tumblr media
A frog! With an afro!
Tumblr media
Bucatini dance!
Is there a history of discrimination over textured and curly hair in Italy? As far as I know, no. You see white people with dreads and braids all the time and for historical reasons, curly and textured hair is common in people's genes. From what I've seen from italian forums and social media, I have read no complaints from black italians about the scene, so it definitely didn't move the italian black community or anything to stir any controversy.
Alright. With that out of the way... As a kid, I didn't think too much of the scene. I didn't think "wow, that hair is bad/ugly/something mean", or anything of the sort, and this seems to be the general sentiment from other italian watchers. I didn't think anything of the poor black girl being mocked. Being from a filler episode, the scene is rather forgettable to the average euro person.
I thought the hair wasn't even normal afro hair. And so did many others, according to italian social media posts...
I thought it had become JELLO! The hair is shiny and makes a strange noise when Bloom touches it. I'm still sure it's jello.
Bloom touching the hair unprovoked is also kind of nasty.
Tumblr media
Some don't believe it's jello at all and I can't fault them for it, since the poor girl doesn't say any details. Just that her straight hair turned into "this thing".
Tumblr media
The language used in this scene is meanspirited.
"What did she put on her head?" is a bit too much from Stella. You see a girl crying and you mock her?
Tumblr media
The Winx don't even do anything for her, just standing back and watching. The Trix mocking her is one thing, but the Winx could have tried to help, only for them to give up as the girl has a breakdown, I dunno, better than nothing or Bloom's terrible attempt. The whole scene isn't easy to save and I don't think anybody should bother, not even the 4Kids edit improves it much. Just cut it out.
The joke was likely at afro hair looking funny itself, rather than make the black girl seem undesiderable for having an afro, as I've read from some interpretations. All italians I've read and asked agree that they didn't think maliciously of the scene as kids nor now. At least there's that.
A surprising amount of people thought the scene wasn't racist at all though, and couldn't understand why would this be offensive, while those who agreed it was bad still argued that banning the episode was too much.
The italian side has been very focused on the whitewashing discourse, though. Not since Magical Adventure as some have noted, but ever since the fairy couture dropped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are from 2022! What have they done to Aisha!
Anyway, thanks for reading all the way there. I'd like to hear more opinions, provided they're brought in a civil manner. Because I've seen a lot of nastyness on this argument and I'd rather not deal with trolls.

These poor girls!

Life SMP Winners and Their Symbols
So, with the first three winners, they are pretty clear: Grian: Sun Scott: Star Pearl: Moon But with our newest winner, there's a lot of conflicting ideas for what the symbol could be. I'm going to be talking about the symbols of what people have suggested and a couple symbols I believe could fit our newest winner, Martyn
These are all just my thoughts and opinions! If you don't agree, that's completely fine! I just can't wait to see what the consensus will be!
Everything will be under the cut (it's a long post Lol) :D
So, Martyn.
Many people want to continue the astrological theme that the first 3 had with Martyn. The name "Martyn" means "Dedicated to Mars". This makes sense, but I think we should focus more on the "dedicated" portion than of "Mars". Because he isn't Mars himself, he is dedicated to that planet - it's something that he pledges himself to. He's devoted himself to a god that desires war and bloodshed (fitting)
I've seen people bring this up about Martyn - he isn't loyal. And I'd have to agree. He's devout. It's his devotion to something that gets him far. He's faithful to people, but only so far as he allows it. But he's realized this season that if he tries to keep his faith in others, his facade, he'll lose. Like he has lost in every season before. He was never going to let Ren win in 3rd life. His plan was to betray him in the end and win for himself. His devotion is only for his own preservation and his own wants. And if it'll finally end these games, good. He is faithful to the extent of how far his faith can go
So with thinking along these lines of dedicating one's self to a bloody cause, I feel a weapon would fit instead. I know it isn't a celestial body, but I don't feel like it's entirely needed for the people in the life series to be only represented by that. It just so happened to fit that the last three winners had celestial body theming around them. So either an axe or a sword (though I think both crossed with one another would be interesting too) would fit really well
I saw some people say the ocean, but I'm not quite sure that fits. It definitely goes with the theme of where he resided, with him and Scott being the Mean Gills and Martyn being a pirate. But this is really the only season that water has really been associated with him. With the Mars theming, it makes sense because of his name. Even him being represented by trees or a forest fits because, again, his name, which I have seen some people use as a symbol for him. I think it just doesn't fit with how he was like in the series; neither the ocean or the forest fit
If we follow along the thought of how he's defined in the series, him being represented by a hand would make sense. He has been Ren's right hand, the Watchers even refer to him as the Hand. So him being represented by a hand would work. Especially with how the Watchers love to meddle with the games and with the players, literally putting a hand into the strife of the games
If we continue with the devotion thinking, a heart would work. The heart symbolizes many things, but one of the things it can symbolize is devotion. And Martyn puts his heart, his everything, into the games to try to win. And him being symbolized with a heart would fit with the series in general
Him being symbolized by blood would be really interesting. Blood can be a symbol for various things, but one thing is that their meaning can be total opposites of one another. Blood is used to symbolize salvation and punishment. Blood is connected to life and death. This duality fits with how split the community is on what Martyn's symbol should be and with how Martyn is as a character. And it truly feels like blood follows wherever he goes
I think, overall, the main reason why having Martyn have a non-celestial symbol fit him is because he feels the most mortal, or at least is more mortal than many of the others. So him being represented by something more related to mortal things would make sense
However, if he were to still be represented by celestial body, him either being a comet or the Earth would make sense. Comets don't stay in one place, always moving, until they either burn out or crash into something, which is very much like how Martyn is. With Earth, there are various biomes, varying animals and different kinds of people. The planet of mortals, where they can love immensely and cause unfathomable bloodshed, would fit Martyn very well
tldr; the symbols I think would fit Martyn are (in no order): Non-Celestial: 1. Axe/Sword/Both weapons 2. Hand 3. Heart 4. Blood
Celestial: 1. Comet 2. Earth

How does lurien and monomon adjust to the rulers being exiled in usurper au? Most people portray lurien as devoted to the king; would he try to follow them? And is there resentment against herrah, since as she is a ruler of a neighboring kingdom, and politically powerful, she got off pretty Scot free as far as I can tell? Or is there a period of time where herrah (or deepnest) and hollow were fighting, or was he less bitter towards her since she wasn't loyal to pk like lurien, and just made a deal for her daughter. (Was monomon loyal to pk? Was she HIS archivist, or just a jellyfish that agreed to help pk?) Sorry for all the questions!
DON'T APOLOGISE, I LOVE QUESTIONS, I LIVE FOR PEOPLE ASKING ME STUFF ABOUT MY AUS
Lurien was the most loyal to Pale King, which means his treatment after his exile is the harshest. In this AU though we did add some more neighbouring tribes/kingdoms for good ol' political drama and Lurien is the youngest son of one of such tribes, which was very loyal to the Pale King. This puts Hollow in a bad place with them and while they'd love to tell Lurien to get the hell out of their kingdom, they know it's not their call to make so stripping him of his title and sending him back to his home will have to do.
It's a few days after the exile that anybody actually finds out about it so by that time the two are far away from Hallownest, so even if Lurien wanted to follow his former king he couldn't. He just returns to the same life as a noble that he led before being given the title of the watcher.
Monomon was loyal to Pale King as his archivist, but Hollow can't exactly strip her of her rank as she's the only archivist in Hallownest after she sent her apprentice Quirrel away. So for now they keep a very close eye on her but promised to help her find Quirrel and bring him back home. She doesn't exactly know how to feel about the sudden change in leadership but for now, the two remain civil with each other.
You're right that Herrah doesn't face any consequences for playing a role in their sealing. While Hollow is a little bit bitter about it, she wasn't loyal to their father in any way and she's the queen of another kingdom so not only do they not resent her as much they also know better than to start any shit with her and Deepnest. Especially at the beginning of their rule when all of Hallownest's former allies pull away from them. They're both wary of each other but keep it civil, mostly for Hornet's sake as she loves her big sibling and is ecstatic to have both of them back (and about the fact that Hollow can finally play with her).
Lurien, Monomon and Herrah are all close friends though so the two understand her unique position and don't hold any resentment for it.
Ultimately though, their grievances were with their father, not the three dreamers, so with time their relationships get better.
Hollow's and Lurien's relationship will forever be practically non-existent. Lurien never regains his title so the two practically never interact, but the times that they do they keep it polite and formal. Lurien did eventually apologise for his involvement in the plan, and while he still remains loyal to Pale King he also accepts Hollow's rule, so Hollow simply accepts his apology and doesn't pay him much mind after that.
Monomon and Hollow eventually develop a relationship of mutual respect and are just normal coworkers, and she's allowed to stay as the Hallownest's archivist even after Quirrel returns. While she was sceptical about their rule at first, she saw how hard they worked to ensure Hallownest's well-being and even how they took interest in her work, so she finally accepted them as the new monarch. Hollow also lets go of their anger with time, and allowing Monomon to remain as their kingdom's archivist was a big part of it. She of course also apologised for her involvement as a dreamer.
Hollow and Herrah eventually grow to be allies and then close friends, thanks to their relationship to Hornet and the fact they ended up interacting way more often (also thanks to the aforementioned little princess). She was wary of them as she didn't know what to make of their sudden and violent raise to power, she hadn't known them as a person and while she understood their reasoning she had no idea what kind of ruler they would be so she wanted to approach the situation on the side of caution. But not only was Hollow not some shifty, violent bastard, but they also always treated her and her kingdom with respect and like equals - even despite their status as a god. So she eventually warmed up to them and treated them with the same amount of respect. She even started being almost motherly to them, thanks in part to her own daughter being their sibling.

Essay on Patrick Jane
Im Reposting some of my Best entries. Heres my essay on Patrick Jane
Introduction.
Patrick Jane is the main protagonist in the 2000's American TV show "The Mentalist" portrayed by Simon Baker. Patrick Jane is the main  protagonist on the show, and with a surprisingly the least morals  on the team of protagonists. We'll get to these later. Patrick Jane works in the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), but later works for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Both as a consultant. Before that, he was a professional mentalist that faked psychic powers to get money out of people.
Powers and abilities.
Patrick Jane possesses a powerful mental prowess. He is a master of tactics and people, especially knowing them. His observational skills are absolutely exceptional. I myself, am a deductionist/mentalist, so I know about how this works. His observational skills are at the level of the legendary deductionist Sherlock Holmes. I'd even bother to say that Patrick Jane was a better Sherlock Holmes than the Benedict Cumberbatch incarnation in the 2010 BBC's " Sherlock ". All deductions are focusing on 4 different  ways of information. Attire, Physicality, Verbal and non-verbal sources. In the case of Patrick Jane there are five, because he is a master of using his intuition. This is mostly framed as guesswork.
Painful past and story
The story of the show starts off with introducing us to Patrick's past. And how The notorious serial killer "Red John" killing his wife and daughter because of his profession of being a fake psychic (mentalist). The rest of the story revolves around his redemption and act of revenge. After 6 seasons/ years of a cat and mouse battle of Patrick and Red John, with Patrick trying to find out who he  is and kill him for good. He accomplishes his goal of vengeance and kills his nemesis after a long battle of unraveling a secret society of corrupt law enforment officials all throughout the state of California. There is though another 1.5 seasons of the show. What happens then? He finds Final peace in his new love interest. Then the final wedding, we get the final moments of a peculiar show that brought excitement to its watchers for years.
The character's moral compass
Patrick JAne is a very grey character. He is the perfect balance between the Good guys of his team at CBI and his nemesis in Red John. He said it himself, and I can't sum it up more. "I don't care about the law, I care about justice." Seeing this quote, something comes to mind. He doesn't care about the rules of the world. The rules that other people set for everyone. He cares about his own morals and rules. "An eye for an eye" as they say. That's why he's so grey. The cops represent the law and the boundaries and Red John, the crimes and unhinchedness of everything. Patrick represents justice. There is a problem though. Not even Patrick is sure if his quest of vengeance is even good when you look at the quote: "Revenge is for fools and madmen."
His allies
Patrick Jane has a team. Just like Gregory House from "House MD" and even Sherlock Holmes. The team consists of a pretty good dynamic. Teresa Lisbon played by Robin Tunney is the boss and the one who doesn't agree with Patrick and questions his morals Just like Cuddy with House. Then we have rigsby and Van Pelt (Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti). Rigsby is the big and dumb and Van pelt is the good-girl i guess. And their whole arc revolves around them being in love and the rules not letting that happen. I think I can reference this to Chase and Cameron. Then we get to the most bad-ass character in the history of the show. Kimball Cho portrayed by by Tim Kang the buff asian with a robot-like character. I would make a reference to Foreman, but I'm not sure if there are any simmilarities.
Conclusion
The Character of Patrick Jane is a deeper concept when you think about it. His mental abilities and unique deduction style is most intriguing. I try my best at adapting it into my own. The depth of his morals is a nice addition to the generic 2000's crime drama that is "The Mentalist".
Happy Deducing!
