I love Batman and also will but there is so much ableism with Arkham Asylum and with Batman’s villains and a lot of comics either do the disabled villain trope but on steroids or they completely ignore or downplay Batman’s rouges and their trauma and mental illnesses

Some big examples are Batman The Black Mirror with James Gordon Jr. and Arkham Asylum a Serious House on a Serious Earth with almost every character in terms of misrepresenting mental disorders, disabilities and mental health in general

These comics are great in many ways and so is Batman as a whole but the constant able ism and demonizing of physically and mentally disabled characters often goes unnoticed and it needs to be discussed more

I also want to clarify that I’m not saying that Bruce Wayne doesn’t have compassion for his villains I’m just saying that writers often write him to be ignorant and judgmental

Just got back from the Fairy Tales Exhibition at GOMA. Where I got to view art works from feature artists Abdul Abdullah, Del Kathryn Barton, Destiny Deacon, Gustave Doré, Rachel Feinstein, Trulee Hall, Carsten Höller, Anish Kapoor, Yayoi Kusama, Ron Mueck, Tracey Moffatt, Henrique Oliveira, Polixeni Papapetrou, Patricia Piccinini, Kiki Smith, Jana Sterbak and many others.

They also feature film costumes and props from Mirror Mirror (2012), The Labyrinth (1986), Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010), etc.
