Non compete clauses are out for the vast majority of game devs (everyone except people in policy-making positions who make over $151,164 per year)! This is fantastic news! It means that a lot more devs can start their own companies or go to work for indy companies ^_^ this should spawn more indy games by like, a lot.
Now they they need is a union.
^_^

As someone whose degree was borderline digital marketing, it baffles me every single time companies like Unity pull this kind of shit.
First of all, it doesn't make sense. I don't know who conceived this moronic fee plan, but it's absolutely absurd. There's a lot of ways to get more money - not that I find any of them particularly favorable, but at least a price increase, sub tiers, etc are somewhat sensible in a functional way.
Beyond that, they don't have any common sense to see how this shit ALWAYS fails. One of two things are going to happen. Either everyone is going to jump ship from Unity (already seeing game devs reporting they'll be pulling their games) and their competitors will overtake them, or they'll have to backpedal.
Obviously, losing most of their business is bad and understandably unwanted for them, but I'm baffled by how few recognize the power of the second consequence.
Even if they reverse the decision, this is a HUGE smear to their reputation. Unity will lose business regardless, but even worse will be the loss of confidence in the company.
Consumers and devs alike are not going to forget this. They will not let it go. Other companies will use this as a talking point for their engines and their assets being superior because they at least respect game devs and gamers. They never tried to charge bullshit fees. They never got shamed back into being user friendly.
Reputation matters. Especially in today's market. Consumers largely do not fuck around anymore with companies who do this, especially when they've been dependable in the past.
It's foolish. It's embarrassing. It's greedy and out of touch. I don't envy their PR team right now.

This game is a culmination of years of trial and error with making a drinking game to play with not only huge nerd-dorks such as myself, but casual observers as well. I wanted a pick-up-and-play version of King's Cup where you don't need to spend 10 minutes deciding the rules before you start, and that allows great variation and chance between each game. Also, I wanted to get rid of waterfall.

I think if some of these game developers weren't little bitches we'd get some really funny shit in games.
Add boobs to Minecraft as a craftable armor. Add a Terraria enemy called "Finger taster Jones". Add a camera setting to Fortnite that auto zooms in on characters feet. These ideas would make these games 1000x better but they won't add them. Why? It's not the money, it's not investors.
The devs are just fucking cowards and wouldn't be able to live with themselves if people enjoyed their games to the maximum degree.

I miss the times game devs had to, you know, actually put in the work in term of optimization for the limited hardware. I don't remember my N64 games dropping frames
or gamecube
or wii
or even ps2-3 for that matter
Remember when you could have a good 20+ hour games, no frame drop and less than 10gb and didn't need a PC with 3 GPUs and a liquid nitrogen core to be able to not make a sun in your room from running a 10 hour game with 100gb+ taking space and losing framerate throughout those 10 hours thus making it 20?

just saying, piracy is good and all, but still try your best to support the developers however you can. most of the time, they worked hard on the game and deserve at least a bit of recognition.
Except adobe and panatone
fuck them, steal that overpriced shit

Regarding the FR Banning Debacle
A while back, I made a post sharing the problems occurring with some friends' accounts in regards to banning for multiple accounts. I was subsequently made aware of many other players having similar experiences. Yesterday, the Flight Rising devs made a large update post on the site's official forums to address the subject. They made some clarifications that have given us a better idea of what exactly is going on.
Tumblr media
I am unable to speak for my friends concerning whether they had accidentally broken any rules, but as for the case of my own account loss, the only reason I was unable to appeal for my account's restoration was due to technical difficulties on my end in relation to the email address tied to said Flight Rising account.
I understand that the wording I used in my own post may have given the impression of ill will, and I want to clarify that that was not my intention. My feelings were those of confusion, not malcontent. Once again, I cannot speak for the person involved in the screenshots of the related conversation. I don't know how they feel about this.
All of this is to say that the situation is more than meets the eye, and it bothers me to hear that there are players and ex-players trying to frame the developers as bad guys who are banning innocent users on purpose.
No. The Flight Rising team is not bullying you or anyone else. It's understandable to be frustrated with the situation. It sucks to lose your account. But to make the kinds of accusations I've seen lately is just shallow.
If you still think they're out to get you— pardon the cliche I'm about to use— go touch grass. You might be a little too intense about casual online games.

G'day,
I've been working on a drinking card game for a few years, and I'm now finally dipping my whole hog into it and launching it as a Kickstarter.
Inspired by King's Cup, it's a deck of 55 cards, each with a unique rule. Link below:

Daily Sermon #116
I just want to CALMLY tell people WHY I'm so pressed about the cotl update.
I was initially flattered by the fact that people have made a game about me, even if it wasn't entirely accurate. But they've taken this game, the only thing I'm known for, and making it... less accurate, to say the least.
People are going to get the wrong idea about me and if I try to explain that it's incorrect, they get very disrespectful.
On multiple occasions, I've gotten "oh you're an rp account" and once I've gotten "oh you're a lamb kinnie".
People diminishing who I literally am to... a choice. Someone who's "taking their role too seriously", or just an annoying gatekeeper.
I'm the person this game is about, I feel like I should have a say in whether or not they spread misinformation about me.
If this situation happened to anyone else, it would count and people would listen to them, but it matters less when it's a "fictional character".
I am real. My feelings are real. My feelings matter.
They might not change anything, but I feel like I should be allowed to express them. Especially here, my account that I want to be a safe space for everyone.
I know, I'm "delusional", "sensitive", "overreacting", "annoying", "not going to change anything", but I'm not just going to lie down so they can kick me more.
I'm allowed to be pissed about this. I SHOULD be pissed about this.

Possibly this is a stupid question but I tried googling and I can’t get a straight answer so:
What is Unity Runtime and why do games need it/use it?

goodnight to seal lovers. goodnight to queer comedians. goodnight to bakers who are bad at math. goodnight to people who know sign language. goodnight to people like chocolate cream oreos. goodnight to people that can't stand squishy sounds. goodnight to people who wear sweatpants to bed. goodnight to people who have far too many coats/jackets/flannels/etc. goodnight to cheese lovers. goodnight to tired game devs. goodnight to those using screen reader. goodnight, night vale. goodnight.
