it got me thinking… gender fluid billy

i personally really like the idea of cap having memories from past champions lives and surely those champions must have had a very large variety of genders

so he could potentially just feel really comfortable with any gender

i want to see him just casually switch genders while with the league because it feels write for him at the time and for them to just be super confused and for billy to not explain anything if even one of them acts like assholes

Genderfluid Billy is absolutely darling and dear to me! I often HC him as trans, but I love and accept every version of him that exists in the multiverse and to everyone else! I'm genderfluid myself, so that's very nice to have a hero who's like me :D

As for The Captain being able to recall his past lives and having been different genders, and having former identities in the past is absolutely incredible! It's great to explore the storytelling potential of the Champion of Magic and their former lives, who they were, have been, and can be.

I headcanon something similar, where cap has indeed lived through various past lives as different people throughout his entire existence, and in one of them he had a child who later becomes immortal, spending centuries apart from them and then finding them again...only to see that tiny Billy Batson is definitely not their parent from long ago, and that things are now a complicated family tree. I'm an avid believer in giving Billy Batson more found family members and combining multiple ideas into one, haha.

Cap really would feel comfortable with any gender, and with magic, could totally become anything he wanted, whenever he wanted. Magic is free and surgery is not, so Billy would be down to use magic to explore his gender identity ✨️

I could 1000% see Captain Marvel being bored in an extended JL meeting in the watchtower, yawning, then just casually switching over to another gender in the blink of an eye. Doesn't even give it a second thought. But everyone else is suddenly wide awake and floored by this sudden magic use.

Superman was going to say something, but remembered he got transformed into the opposite gender once, and decided to just let cap be. He remembered it being kinda nice.

Plastic man joins in and morphs into a hotter version of himself, seemingly trying to one up cap. It's not a competition. But he's still found a way to lose.

Everyone eventually gets distracted and the meeting ends up going longer than intended. Genderfluid for the win 🏆

kinda knew when he was younger that sometimes he wanted to be a she sometimes, but also jc probably scared the living shit outta jl

plus jl didn't know how to articulate that as a child, so he kept it suppressed

sometimes ljy can get away with calling jl a young mistress or princess, but he absolutely hates it when ljy calls him that when ljy calls him that when he's male

gets a little annoyed when being called young mistress/princess at any time, really, except when it's used a term of endearment

loves the fact that she can pass as a guy or girl (bc imo jl is quite androgynous looking)

will sneak out at night dressed in a more feminine-presenting way and get away with it

puts actually a lot of effort into presenting female, and looking as different as she possibly can look bc if it gets out that the jin's sect heir "crossdresses" (which is false, but the gossipers don't know that) it will be very bad press

voice is harder to pass off but it is doable

jl has never told anyone abt being genderfluid bc it's not like he has friends to spare lmao, and bc it's very personal

plus being genderfluid really wasn't a thing back then, at least not publicly out as genderfluid

hates staying at the cloud recesses because it's very hard to sneak out there and he isn't gonna risk it on other sect territory

zizhen is the first to find out when he caught jl sneaking out of lanling (zizhen's insomnia means that he wanders quite a bit)

oyzz completely accepts jl, though they don't rlly talk about it. sometimes oyzz will cover for jl if someone gets sus

"Ling" is a unisex name so she goes by a Ling if anyone asks

DC's upcoming Future State event will see the debut of a plethora of new heroes. One of the most exciting characters set to be introduced is the newest Flash, who will be a part of the future Justice League. The new, non-binary hero will debut in the DC’s Very Merry Multiverse before joining the big leagues with the JL.

(...) Jess Chambers aka Kid Quick will be part of Earth-11's Teen Justice team in an eight-page story before becoming the Flash in Future State: Justice League. The character is genderfluid (non-binary) and uses they/them pronouns. Chambers' aunt is longtime speedster Jesse Quick. Cohen said it was important to create a new, different version of the Flash readers haven't seen before.

here’s some of my HalBarry HC’s both as separate people and as a ship~~

Bartholomew is one of the shortest JL members. Hal constantly teases him over this and it’s normal to see him using Bar’s head as an armrest. He gets elbowed in the gut a lot. Flash doesn’t have abs like most other JL members: given how high his metabolism is and the fact that most of his time is spent running he has a very sleek and lean build though it’s widely accepted (for obvious reasons) that he has the best thighs in the League. He’s also genderfluid! The only real way to tell when to use female pronouns is during the times she wears a bright red lipstick. On days that Flash presents herself as a woman she doesn’t go by the nickname “Barry” and instead uses “Bea/Bee”.

Hal has a darker skin tone, partly from tanning and partly from his mixed-race background. He doesn’t burn easily, if at all, which is something Barry absolutely despises him for. He’s very flexible and used to be a gymnast in school. He likes to show off those skills whenever possible so it’s normal to see him doing stupid stunts while flying around. Great at flirting but if you genuinely show him affection he’ll get choked up and his voice will crack. Congrats he will now Die For You.

Barry actually needs glasses to see but wears contacts instead. Hal thinks this is adorable and tries to get Barry to wear glasses more often. Hal has the most scars because Barry’s fast healing doesn’t really leave any scars behind. The only one he has is the one he got from the accident that gave him his powers; basically he has Lichtenburg Scars all over his torso, branching out from his heart.

They invade eachother’s personal space a lot and most of the time don’t even realize they’re doing it. It’s gotten so bad that Oliver has an ongoing bet with Dinah that one day they’ll end up just sitting in eachothers laps at a meeting. IT TAKES YEARS OF DUMB PINING FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY CONFESS AND IT’S PROBABLY DURING THE HEAT OF BATTLE OR SOMETHING AND THEY BOTH GET REALLY EMBARRASSED ABOUT IT. Stupid dorks.

Barry has a habit of taking on too many tasks at once and then forgetting to eat and sleep so whenever Hal is back on earth (or just. whenever they’re together in general) he makes sure to keep an eye on Barry’s health. Hal isn’t above physically forcing Barry to sleep by restraining him with his ring and then knocking him out lmao.

Hal gave Barry his jacket once and his soul acended instantly. RIP Harold you fucking foolish bisexual.

The most important characters are in Love in the Time of Global Warming by Francesca Lia Block (that might actually be all queer, yes), Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore (well, not the love interest, but all five sisters are bi), When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore (also, not literally everyone, but the two mains are bi and trans, and there’s another trans character and a lesbian character, once you get into the important secondaries), Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera (everyone but her family, IIRC), Not Your Sidekick by CB Lee (ditto re: family), As I Descended by Robin Talley, At the Edge of the Universe by Shaun David Hutchinson (maybe not all his friends but definitely some - great genderfluid secondary character), Lunaside by JL Douglas, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (the three mains, at least), and the upcoming Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro, and IIRC, queerness is the society default in Erica Cameron’s Island of Exiles.
