Pokemon: Shiny vs. Default, 0025-0026
Oh hey, it’s the mascot and its forgotten older brother, and, let’s be realistic, a couple of the best designs in Pokemon, ever. In both early chonky form and post-Gen IV slimmer form, it’s pretty much perfect.
We’re back into Pokemon having alternate forms and super modes, so another slightly longer post today, starting with, of course, Pikachu.
Pikachu is unfortunately one of those shinies that doesn’t change particularly much. In fact, this model is pretty much the most stark change it’s ever been depicted as. And I understand why, of course. Pikachu is the mascot. It has to keep looking like Pikachu, so it’s shiny can’t be all that different from the default. But that means that the default is going to win.
Next up, Gigantamax Pikachu
Second verse, same as first, in all honesty. If anything it gets even harder to tell them apart, you could post the shiny form in isolation and I’d think the colour difference was just the red filter at first. Default.
Moving swiftly on to my personal favourite of the line, poor, forgotten Raichu.
Don’t worry buddy, I still love you. Like its previous form, Raichu doesn’t change too much, but it’s more visible. A more reddish orange, more muted colours elsewhere, it... doesn’t look great. Default wins.
And lastly, Alolan Raichu.
I love that you exist just because it means Game Freak remembered that this a three stage line (Pichu coming eventually) and gave Raichu a little attention. This one, I think, works. The richer brown body, and golden ears, tail, and cheeks make both forms look like baked goods, and I enjoy that. If I got a shiny Pikachu, this is the form I’d to evolve it into. Overall, going to call this one a draw, as I like both plenty and wouldn’t mind either way.
Default: 29
Shiny: 8
Draw: 3

Pokemon Journeys Episode 132 Review
Pokemon Journeys Episode 132. Let’s review:
So now we’ve come to the end of Ash and Leon’s battle, as well as the overall end for the Masters 8 Tournament and World Coronation Series as a whole. And it ended wonderfully.
Okay, the ONLY gripe I have is how easily Cinderace got taken down. One Gigantamax attack. It would’ve been a lot more believable if the dude had actually received some damage beforehand, but again, only problem I have with the fight. Plus, his early defeat eases my worry of the overall climax being a symbolic “Ash v. Goh” sort of thing.
Everything else though, wow. Fucking. Beautiful. The animation REALLY went all out in the entire episode, ESPECIALLY at the climax with Pikachu and Charizard, like the zooming shot from Leon to Ash, the stellar electric and fire effects, the vivid colors, the well-done close-up shots, you can definitely tell the whole team went ALL out on this. We’ve got some good character interaction as well, though I personally just can’t care for Leon at this point because he’s an annoying douche, but the moments between him and Ash were still nice. And of course, seeing Ash pull off many of his familiar strategies was amazing, like having Pikachu climb Ancient Power or fight off Charizard’s Air Slash with Iron Tail in the air.
The cameos? All fucking welcomed. And the fact many of them were cleverly grouped up was really awesome, like Cilan and Brock being together with Alexa, referencing the two meeting at Johto and the former traveling to Kalos in another special. Was cool to see May and Serena together as well, but I do wish there was some dialogue in the latter’s episode where she could off-handedly mention to Chloe that she’s friends with May due to their similar interests in Pokemon Contests and fashion. Still cute to see them hold hands.
AND LET’S NOT FORGET PIKACHU ENVISIONING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF ASH’S OTHER POKEMON ACROSS THE JOURNEYS CHEERING HIM ON, EVEN THE LIKES OF BUTTERFREE, PIDGEOT, PRIMEAPE, FUCKING LARVITAR, AND MORE
Team Rocket’s commentary was nice, Diantha and Cynthia’s dialogue were cool moments, yeah, almost everything in the episode was a joy to see.
Fuck it, I’m giving this a 19/10. Surely, we can’t set the bar higher than this. I mean it, we can’t. Look, guys, I like Goh myself, but seeing this character we’ve known for a mere 3 years achieve his goals isn’t even comparable to the MAIN character achieving his goals after 25 years.
