summary: you and zuha finally reunite after being apart for a bit while lesserafim film a music video in another country.

You were getting tired of seeing her through a screen. her hoodie that she left for you, covered in her perfume was only doing so much. she was supposed to be home days ago but something went wrong in the shoot and they had to stay for a couple more days, but you were losing your mind. You would call her whining every night about how you couldn't sleep without her and she would stay on the phone till you fall asleep, smiling as she looks at your beautiful face as you rest, softly singing you a lullaby. But as the days pasted she began to get very busy had little to no time to talk to you. Which made you very upset and sad, you knew she had no control over it but still. You are stubborn and she's truly spoiled you rotten with her attention, so when you're not receiving it you act bratty. you ignored her occasional call around lunch time which caused her to blow you up with text

"baby? :("

"why aren't you answering me?"

"we always eat lunch together...💔"

Are you overreacting? yes. but you can't help but be upset. She knows how you get when she doesn't speak to you when she's out of town. Eventually you couldn't ignore her anymore. Just as you get deep in thought your phone rings and her name flashes on your screen, you quickly answer her facetime call and her worried face fills your phone screen. you feel awful. seeing her look at you like that.. you regretted acting the way you did. her soft voice fills your ears and you immediately feel your body relax.

"Baby...I was so worried...what happened?"

you press your lips together looking away from the screen, embarrassed by your actions.

"I'm sorry...I just miss you so much and you weren't talking to me as much...I got upset.."

you admit shamefully, making eye contact with her again and seeing her face soften.

you feel your checks heat up at the pet name but you nod

you chuckle as you lift your phone up to show her hoodie on your body as you're curled up in bed.

you raise an eyebrow, intrigued by what this news may be,

"I'll be home tomorrow!! well You'll probably be asleep when i get there but I'll be there when you wake up~"

she says as she smiles, clearly excited to tell you this, her smile makes your lips curve into a smile as well.

"thank god. im going crazy over here" you pout as kazuha erupts into laughter

You two stay on the phone basically all night but kazuha eventually has to go and catch her flight but she showers you will reassurance that the both of you will spend all day together and she will make up for lost time, she blows you a kiss before hanging up and you feel more at ease now that the air has been cleared, you lay your head on your pillow and fall asleep thinking of kazuha being there.

It soon gets to be 5 in the morning and you start to hear noises in your sleep, you crack open your eyes and you see kazuha taking off her jacket and hanging it on the back of a chair before changing into her pajamas. when she turns she's met with your half sleep expression

"hi baby, sorry if i woke you, i was trying to be quiet"

she whispered softly as she slipped into bed with you. you immediately cling to her, burying your face in her chest. Kazuha holds you as she plays with your hair

"I'm so glad you're home my love"

you say lowly as you sit up and place yourself in your rightful spot, Kazuha's lap 😋 you both look into each others eyes, sitting in comfortable silence yet so much is being said.

Zuha hums as she caresses your face, looking into your eyes longingly. you smirk and lean into her touch

"yeah? I look a mess right now, I literally just woke up"

you chuckle as teasingly leaned in closer to her face

20 Questions for Fic Writers

A bunch of writers that I follow have already been tagged and responded @helloliriels @khorazir @7-percent @discordantwords @totallysilvergirl to name just a few. Now I have a few new things to read that I somehow missed the first time around as well as a bunch of old favorites to go and re-read. So much good fic is out there by so many talented writers!

In the spirit of adding to folk’s ever growing MFL list I’ll just pile onto the bandwagon with my answers as well.

1. How many works to you have on AO3?

56 although there are several collections of snippets that technically could be counted separately. On AO3 I'm KtwoNtwo.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

496,860

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Primarily Sherlock Holmes (most all iterations from ACD to Sherlock) and James Bond. However, I dabble in a good number of other fandoms upon occasion.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes, even if its just a “I’m glad you liked it.” The only ones I don’t respond to are the generic solicitations to join some random contest or fic publishing website. Those get blocked and reported.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Well, I don’t really write major angst but The Four Riders has got a bit as does the poem Gun in the Drawer though they both end on a hopeful note.

7. What’s the Fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics have happy endings but probably A Toast to the Science of Deduction resolves the happiest of the lot.

8. Do you get hate on fics.

Nope. Only got one anonymous troll alleging trademark infringement due to a title. I fired back a factual rebuttal: basically "there is no book by that name by that author, there is no lawyer by that name, you didn’t provide contact information and btw trademark doesn’t work the way you allege" then added a set of quotation marks to the title. Never heard anything more about it.

9. Do you write smut?

I have but I’m not terribly good at it. Most of the time the characters look at me then politely, or not so politely, shut the bedroom door in my face.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Oh God Yes! Technically I think I write fusions, where both fandoms end up in the same universe, as opposed to crossovers but I’m rather unclear on the difference between same so I tend to just call 'em crossovers and leave it at that.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I could find or prove. I did have a couple of strange search results pop up with my use name and some fic titles attached but the websites all seem to be defunct now.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not to my knowledge.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No.

14. What’s your favorite ship?

Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

There’s a fic based on a song by Abney Park that I’ve got an outline for but it never seems to go anywhere.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I can merge and/or crossover all sorts of different fandoms.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Typos and punctuation. Being slightly dyslexic I can’t spot the former and I never know if I’m using commas correctly or not.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I actively avoid doing so because I’d butcher it badly.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker. I will admit that I wrote in my head, but never got around to put on paper, a number of Star Trek stories when I was significantly younger.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

I like all of them for different reasons. The one I’m most proud of however is The Emerald Falls my Study in Emerald inspired ACD Fic.

I'd love to have some of the artists/podcasters respond to this with whatever modifications are necessary to fit the medium involved. Hours of podcast or number of artworks as opposed to number of words for example. @podfixx @bluebellofbakerstreet if you haven't responded to this thing already and I just missed it.

[thing im thinking about all the fucking time] i have my g1 megs tag as 'hold that man who is a gun' in honour of funny thing said by someone not prepared to watch an 80s cartoon where a man does in fact hold another man who is a gun. but rather its my tag for the SPECIFIC vibe of. well. when he is held. as a gun. but its a tag i cannot rb posts into cause its apparently TOO specific a vibe.

youd think well, hes a man who is a gun. techicnally this puts him semi under popular tropes of 'living weapon [person dedicates their life to the purpose of violence]' and 'living weapon [person who is objectfied and wielded in violence (comma, literally)]'

but do u know what the god damn problem is. [not with the tropes just with me wanting populate this tag] the gimmick with the first is often about like. regret and remorse. oh theyve become a weapon but life is so much more than that. oh theyve done horrible things thats sad. and worst of all [again for my purposes] now lets heal them from this. lets see them not be this thing any more.

this does not work for my purposes cause. well. He's a gun. and hes a gun cause he wants to shoot people. hes pretty good at it when hes not a gun too. im positive in the grand scope of tf land theres A Megs who fits that kinda vibe. you know. the war is long. or its over. and hes left with the thing hes made of himself. but, to use a phrase from my fav tf toy review. g1 megs is Bad Bastard. hes a warlord. hes a goddamn cartoon villian. the only thing that ever forces his hand imminent treats to his life. which are usually, 1. whatever planet hes currently on is moments away from collasping, imploding, or exploding. 2. literally the most powerful forces of raw power or malevolence in the setting.

thats it. at all other times he seems pretty cool and of his own volition of the whole. Being a gun thing. also he tends to solve those other problems also by Being a gun. a gun that can talk and negotiate and compromise when needed but. still. the necessity of Being the Gun is pretty strong.

the second trope, the mismatch is completely on the objectivified versus object part. if someone is literally objectived and wielded, they are no longer in control, but they are still the instrument of violence. if metaphorical, perhaps the location of violence, the means of violence, but not the true perpetrator. either way. often a feeling that the body is not their own.

but with megs its like, yeah he turns into a hand gun! not a tank. or an automated cannon or turret (thats galv. aka purple megs, which interestingly is him being reformated to one of those malevolent forces will). so hes is an object. that other people can hold, and fire. someone else infact, needs to fire, (well give or take for loose continuity). but the thing is, this is not really a predictament that OTHER people put him into. hes a Man. who is a gun. part of his body is that he is also a gun. he can choose when he transforms, and Be a Gun. And then held, and fired. the depiction of it is usually quite authoritative. and just personality wise. hes not gonna let people forgot that HES THE GUN.

and i mean. to address the holding. specifically to single out oppie. thats someone who is supposedly. less about this whole shooting everything business. i mean. dont get me wrong he very much has a gun and uses it often. its War and hes the Good Guy™. but well he is Not a Gun, and he would not Want to be a gun.

so like. what u have is instead this dynamic of a very bossy gun that takes delight in Being the gun, that sometimes needs to throw himself into the hands of a guy who in the perfect world wouldnt shoot anything.

now granted. extant examples of this are more like 'shoot thing into space' or 'shoot the thing before it explodes' than, more pointed violence thats posed by the presence of The Gun. but go with me here. vibes.

The gun is the means of violence. But to be 'willing to pull the trigger' is to be willing to allow yourself to be the cause, the catalysts of that. so really it is the person who is NOT the gun who becomes implicated in the violence. he is forced to under circumstance, but not, importantly, literally forced, controlled or otherwise overriden.

and ofc. also regarding the intimacy of this arrangement. to complete this act of violence is to hold another person, or to fling yourself towards them and be held. completely fitting into the hands. but its a choice to be held and a choice to catch. and in showing this in smooth and compotent action, implies the not just physical prowess but automatic cooperation and perhaps comfort in the circumstance.

and The Gun is completely fine with this whole situation and is probably gonna laugh at the guy who isnt a gun and say something funny and innuendous as soon as possible.

[after reading your Naruto fics and then ofc, FSHOTS 🥹🫶🏼, I’m so curious to know whether you feel like there’s recurring themes/styles in your writing… ‘cause I really couldn’t seem to find any (other than the fact that I absolutely loved everything you wrote 🫠🌹)] Also, I’m dying to know 76 as well, for FSHOTS, ‘cause the universe you’ve so masterfully created is just so inherently dark that I often wondered whether it was tough to stay on track and not be led astray, down scarier roads…

74. You've posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you'd written it?

It would be extremely gay. And angsty. It's the pining and devotion that gets me �� hahahhahaa

I like to put characters in situations where, even though they are good people and will in the end be nothing less than devoted to each other, they hurt each other either through circumstance, accident or mistake. Case in point: FSHOS and your fingerprints on my skin, my two IceMav fics. I also like arranged marriage AUs, slave AUs, etc. though I don't think I've published any yet.

Or, the blorbos would find each other in dire circumstances and fall in love gradually from the intimacy of relying on each for survival. Example: the ruins of our lives.

As for style (oh god, I'm exposing myself here AHHAAH):

em dash: I love them. So Much. One thing I like to do is to end a line of dialogue with it when a character gets interrupted mid-sentence.

dramatic one liners: I need to ration myself or I'll do it all the time.

comma splices: it's not grammatical but I like it. I probably use them more than I should but I try to be mindful of how I use it and how it affects the rhythm my writing.

use of names: you know that "the taller man" / "the aviator" / "the older man" thing people like complaining about in fanfics? 76. Did you have any ideas that didn't make the final cut of FSHOS?

(Spoiler alert for FSHOS in case anyone else is reading this.)

Here's a scarier road that branched off from Chapter 22: David makes Mav disappear. He finds the transfer form with the buyer signature still blank and just... kidnaps him. Gets a few goons and stuffs Mav kicking and screaming into the trunk.

By the time Ice finds out, it's because someone has filed the paperwork to pull Mav out of the Navy. David has handed Mav off to a third party and Mav is already on his way out of the country.

(Spoiler alert for this potential fic... I don't think I'll manage to write it but just wanted to warn.)

Ice is on the WARPATH. He knows his father is behind this but he just can't find Mav anywhere and can't pry his location out from between his father's lying teeth, so he makes good on his promise and drags the Kazansky name through an all-out shit show of a campaign to take down omega trafficking. Maybe Ice's mom's alpha helps cause she's a banging lawyer.

Legally speaking, Ice is in an absolutely terrible position but it is an unprecedented case that opens up to a lot omega rights arguments. The media eats up the drama and there are investigations, protests, etc... and the omega rights lawyers/activist all flock him wanting to make this The Case to overturn omega laws.

They are in and out of court all day every day. There are TIME magazine articles: WHERE IS MAVERICK? reads the heading, with a grainy, candid picture of Mav in his Navy uniform. The Washington Post has a picture of Ice walking down the steps of the courthouse with dark circles and a glare, and David is somewhere further behind him, stepping through the courthouse doors with his face shielded: KAZANSKY V. KAZANSKY - the generational chasm.

Ice can't look at the news without feeling like throwing up but he knows how to play the game and he plays it well.

I have some thoughts on how Ice would win: national security concerns for one, to void all omega sale contracts out of the country, cause Mav is privy to Navy secrets. Undue duress of some sort is another option to void the transfer form. Finally, if omegas rights are granted, all omega contracts could be voided!!

That's all and good, but we still have one problem: seriously, where is Mav? It's no use winning in court and winning omega rights if he can't get Maverick back safe???

*turns back the clock*

Ice knew this from the start. He had hoped that dragging the Kazansky name through the mud would force his father to capitulate and hand Mav back, but he knows that (i) he could fail, (ii) it would take a long time even if he succeeded, and (iii) it means nothing if Mav is gone.

So he sends his best friend, Slider, on a mission.

Slider has his rifle ready. He has a fast car. "I'll get him back Ice. I promise," he growls. So off our best boy Slider goes, zooming off and sniffing the ground like a bloodhound to track down their precious Mav.

(Meanwhile Mav is rattling the bars of his cage, biting shitty alphas, gnawing through ropes and escaping into the wilderness.)

Slider finds him dehydrated and sunburnt on the border but he's safe. He's safe!

Omega rights: won. Mav: back home. Slider: extremely relieved and proud. Ice: weepy mess ❤️

Even though I thought out this whole AU, I didn't go down this path because (1) I had already thought out the protest and the "canon" fic ending, and (2) I wanted Mav to be in a mentally healthier / more stable state when he re-started his relationship with Ice.

In contrast, the scarier Ch22 AU would give Mav a hugeeee amount of trauma (Ice too) and would probably end up with Ice being extremely protective and Mav accepting it, for stability's sake, while they heal together.

21. Yes and I have done so before! In the second part of Forbidden Fruit, I collaborated with my mutual and friend @littleblueeyedmoon and I would love to collaborate with other writers as well!

(I’ve also worked with other writers over the years but moreso as an editor/with them editing my work)

29. SO it’s very long and complicated but basically every time I reopen the doc I’m working on or write a large chunk of a fic, I reread whatever I wrote. Sometimes it’s fine and I just keep going, other times I just move around a few things, and sometimes I just rewrite massive chunks of the story. This happens multiples times for every fic because I am a perfectionist lmao

Once it’s done and I read it over and think “yeah, the plot is good and everything went the way I wanted” I plug it into grammarly so it suggests commas, periods, and other little grammar things. This is the last time usually where I read my fic from start to finish before posting but I usually don’t change too much at this point in terms of plot of story progression.

From there I post! And sometimes this is the point where I finally come up with a title 😅

63. Something I hate to see in smut, hmmm…. I don’t love when the characters climax at the same time during a fic. I mean it’s fine every once in awhile but I remember that used to always be how every nsfw fic I ever read was written. It kinda just takes me out of it unless it’s supposed to be romantic or if, say, a dom was making their sub hold out until they came, you know?

Also, I don’t really like using the word “member” idk I probably did it once or twice when I exhausted my other synonyms but like… it just reminds me of fanfic I used to read ages ago 😭

OH AND SPEAKING OF WORDS IN SMUT I HATE: CUNNY.

Any time anyone ever says that word in any fic, depending on how good it’s been so far, I either close the tab immediately or skim read the rest to make sure I never see that word again

God, it took me forever to answer that last question but as soon as I remembered that word I knew exactly what bothered me the most

13. What's a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

Short sentences are more powerful than long sentences, as are shorter paragraphs. I have a hard time reading huge chunks of information being dumped in the middle of a conversation and then having to go back up and re-read the last part of the conversation because I got so wrapped up in their thoughts. I play things out like I’m watching tv and when I watch tv I’m very guilty of listening more than watching. Words have always been an assault for me, I hear too much in people’s voices and see too much in their eyes, so it’s best to pick one or the other. My writing has unintentionally been affected by that mentality.

17. What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

When I have inspiration (and the right playlist) I never let it go to waste, I’m in deep for hours at a time. When I get to the point where I’ve changed a sentence more than three times, I can usually tell I need a break. I like to walk away or work on something else for a bit and come back with fresh eyes. If that doesn't work and I’m still just staring at the screen I'll go watch TV, play video games, or read something that is similar to what I'm working on. If I’m still not feeling it I’ll take a break for a week or so and come back refreshed.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

I was just thinking about this! I have ideas for Citizen Cold’s new gear and I'm dying for someone who can actually draw to help me bring it to life! I'd also go insane for a drawing of Barry from their first video chat with the 'Team Cold' shirt and the sun bathing him in light. The polaroids as well of course! Oh, it'd be so amazing to see! But wait, look at me, not even thinking about Len at his desk twirling the phone cord! There’s so many good snapshots I can think of in my head, you don’t know how desperate I am to see them in real life.

44. What mistakes do you keep making no matter how many times your beta corrects you? (asked with love, friend!) 😊

Oh God, okay first I want you to know I’m so so so so sorry. It took a lot of courage on my part to even contact you because I know. I know. I’m a mess. You know first hand I need a refresher course in punctuation. I don't know what's wrong with me, the rules just never seem to stick in my head. Every time I think I’ve got it right I’m proven wrong. It’s like high school math all over again. On an average day (not writing) I usually read anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. I should understand better how to properly place a comma or a period. I don’t want to talk about my spelling or vocabulary, so you’re just gonna get another apology. I’m really sorry.

54. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

Getting to share my work with others. 😊 It’s always in the back of my head to find a different hobby besides writing, something more fulfilling, but I think it’s really just the lack of interaction and feedback that fuels those thoughts. I’ve always loved writing. It always makes me happy to see people have commented or just read my work. I’ve posted in other fandoms and have a few fics that have done fairly well, but none of them are very active fandoms nowadays. It’s really nice to know that I’m not the only one who loves writing and reading either. I can connect to people here who share an interest I’m eager to talk about since I don’t really tell anyone about my writing in my personal life.

56. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I like to think I'm pretty good at constructing new worlds and creating something you can really get lost in, but I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to writing. I’ll create whole new worlds with timelines that span hundreds of years and complex characters that you’d just fall in love with then when it’s time to write the story I’ll just…lose interest suddenly and start something else. Posting IWEBTFATFY was a goal I had set for myself in hopes of breaking that recent streak. I’m very happy to have written 78,000 words and not been too scared to post it in fear it wasn’t going to be good enough. I’ve become very invested in this universe and have a lot of hopes for it. With the right motivation and determination I think I could create something incredible.

Hi, so you finally got me to read your Pretty Woman AU, which means you pulled me back into reading fanfiction for the first time ever since a very unfortunate dabbling in Wattpad territory at the age of 15. And I didn’t think I would like it that much, to be honest, because I’ve only ever seen snippets of Pretty Woman and because I’m not usually into stuff that horny. But excuse me, how is this so beautiful and perfect and addictive??? I can now get in line with all the other people begging for the new chapter on a daily basis.

I mean, even though you keep saying you forget about the plot all the time, it’s still there and it’s wonderful and already the idea is brilliant. Like I said, I have never seen the entirety of Pretty Woman, but I love how you weave KinnPorsche and that movie together so seamlessly while somehow staying true to both?

And I know this is a minor detail to most people, but I personally can’t stand spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes etc. in stories, so I love that somehow you manage to make less of them (= partically zero, even the questionable ones I wasn’t sure about) than a huge amount of professionally published books I’ve read. Thank you for that. Also, I just generally love your style of writing and your tone, it’s a pure delight to read.

That said, I will now go hide in a corner, anxiously await the new chapter and hope you’re having a great day (and that it’s no longer ruined because of the coffee spill).

P.S.: One question, though. Could you maybe explain to me how exactly Kinn’s penthouse is laid out and where everything is inside it? I keep getting confused because my brain is weird and then rooms and furniture end up on the opposite sides of where I expected them to be.

Not to sound cheesy but I really am honored that you gave fanfic another shot with FL&H, that absolutely blows my mind. I hope you check out some more KP fics too—there’s tons of goodies in there if you’re interested! (I’m very far behind on my TBR but I’d rec anything in my bookmarks for a start!)

Pretty Woman has always been such a comfort watch for me honestly. I first saw it when I was like 8, which in hindsight was too young lol, but it’s just one of those movies that’ll always be a timeless classic imo. It’s one of the greats to come out of the 90s romance boom and I’m just really gassed that Kinnporsche happens to translate so well to that setup. It was shockingly easy to outline and find all the ways to sync up the story/character beats, and I love including little Easter eggs from both stories (like Porsche’s “then stop calling me” moment in ep 5, and Chan teaching Porsche self-defense instead of table manners, and obv the piano scene lol).

I’m kind of the same about grammar/punctuation hang-ups just because of the field I work in, but I try really hard to get over it with fanfic because it’s free and made with love, you know? And besides, I’ve read manuscripts from some brilliant authors who cannot spell or use commas right to save their lives lol, so I’m pretty used to looking past the little things for the sake of the story. Thank god for copy editors tbh. But I’m glad you haven’t spotted a lot of typos! I don’t really copy edit other than skimming it after I post so there’s always a good chance I’ve missed something really egregious lol.

As for Kinn’s penthouse suite, I just sketched this out on my phone so it’s not super accurate dimension-wise lol but below is what I picture in my head. (If you see anything in early chapters that contradicts this…no you didn’t 😉)

The north- and east-facing walls are complete glass, and probably have some kind of shades/curtains that come down when you hit the button, but as we all know Kinn and Porsche are exhibitionists and want to make sure the entire city sees them fucking, especially the banks. 😌

so basically me and my friend just had a convo about what writers do that bother us... obviously we get people have different styles and blah blah blah but srsly if you want to read a good fic it has to be written well so...

abbreviations - I get that in speech some people say "OMG" over "oh my god" but when it's not in speech and it's a thought it just doesn't make much sense

cross fandoms - I get it but why? like marvel is great and so is Harry potter but why does a hydra experiment need to pal around with Luna Lovegood

referencing actors. If I am reading a character of someone and then they put on a film or tv series with the actor in it and say "hey that looks like you" well of course it bloody does but it's like a really bad breaking the 4th wallish moment and I'm there for a character not for the actor

more than one OC... I mean aside from the main character and their parents if it's a fanfic I just cant with more than one original unless it's well written in and they make sense to the plot but I've read so many fics where I forgot who people were

He's doing this on his own volition. He thinks you deserve the world. You want Project DIVA ARCADE? He'll get that and suddenly you have your own damn SEGA arcade! He can get you every project diva game. A gamers dream- you can get all the Apex heirlooms! Especially your favorite characters!

He gives you the most freedom.

Luke keeps you in his room most of the time. He doesn't wanna take a chance so he doesn't let you roam the house.

You have a vague sense of freedom from Ian because he takes you with him to his photoshoots! However you are not to leave his side and you are to stay in view of him during his photoshoots.

Sean won't fucking let you leave. He may let you go to his Cafe with him, but if you wanna help out you're staying in the back. He can't risk losing you at all! He will check on you OFTEN.

Ray is the most lenient surprisingly. He lets you wander around the house and even in the yard! He's like 110% sure you're too far gone to even think about running away! Even if someone tried talking sense into you, it won't work. He's got you in a choke hold.

The Ballad of Eddie Munson

Chapter 2: Lessons in Tension

Eddie carried his lunch tray through the cafeteria, Dustin in toe, prattling about dungeons and dragons.

Lissa looked up from her meal to respond to a friend sitting across from her, but Eddie caught her attention.

Feeling a gaze upon him, he looked to his side, their eyes meeting.

“Three Thirty.” She mouthed with angry, narrow eyes.

Eddie exaggerated a feared look and kept walking.

“Ew, Lissa, what are you doing with that freak?” her friend asked.

Lissa sighed, “Higgins is making me tutor him to make sure he passes.”

“Okay, but like Valerie couldn’t do it? She’s the valedictorian after all.”

“Thanks for the vote of confidence in my intelligence, Becky.”

Becky frowned back, “God, what’s your problem lately.”

Lissa rolled her head, trying to relieve tension in her neck, “I’m just stressed out, okay?”

“Okaaay.”

Lissa maneuvered from the table, attempting not to flash anyone. Why do I wear these stupid clothes? “I gotta get something from my locker. I’ll see you later.” She left her meal and walked out of the lunch room.

Keeping an eye on her, Eddie stood up as well. “Cool, man. Let’s talk about it later, okay? I gotta go do something.”

Eddie turned the corner towards a corridor of lockers and immediately spun around seeing Lissa accompanied by a jock. It’s cool, I’ll see her later.

Lissa sat at Mrs. O’Donnell’s desk. Skimming through material, she tapped her foot, anxious about her upcoming final grades and college applications.

Eddie stepped through the classroom door, his boots loud on the tile floor.

She looked at her watch. “It bodes well that you can actually take direction.”

He gave a challenging grin, “Or it was a happy accident that I was near the door at the right time and remembered to walk through it.”

Lissa looked up, her glare sending shivers down Eddie’s spine.

“Woahkaay,” he pursed his lips.

“Take a seat.”

“Yes, ma’am.” he obeyed.

She stood and walked to the blackboard, a fresh piece of chalk in hand.

The blackboard accentuated the silhouette of her thick curves. Eddie’s breath was slow and steady as he walked her, noticing the way her skirt shook as she wrote rapidly across the board.

Lissa shifted to her tiptoes, reaching for the ring of the projector screen, her fingertips just touching it. I’m gonna need her stupid stick .

She attempted to elongate herself one last time before fetching Mrs. O’Donnell’s projector stick when she felt Eddie move behind her. “I got it.” His denim vest brushed against her back, she froze. He reached over her and looped his finger around the ring, pulling the screen straight down. She kept her hand awkwardly in the air until he stepped away. “Bonus points for being teacher’s pest?” he jested as he sat back down.

Lissa gently cleared her throat, regaining her composure. “If it were anyone else, I would correct them.” She walked to the projector, already set up halfway through the classroom and flipped on the light. “On the left, I listed punctuations and wrote out their names. Using the projector, I’m going to write out some sentences and you’re going to tell me which of those punctuation marks is missing and where it should go.” She started writing on the projector film.

“Uh, teach, that’s a little hard to see.”

She looked up. “Oh.” Lissa quickly turned the lights out and went back to the projector. Stay in your seat. For the love of god.

“Okay, here’s the first sentence. What’s missing?”

“A comma.”

“Where?”

“After ‘lastly’.”

“Good job. I’m going to turn the projector off while I write, this thing is hot. Then I’ll flash the next sentence.”

“You can flash me all day.” His grin grew wider at the change in her breath and the squeal of the marker. “You okay, teach?”

“Uh, yeah. I just gotta wipe this mistake off real quick.” Get it together.

Satisfied for the moment, Eddie followed her lesson.

They completed the last scenario. “You did better than I thought you would.”

Eddie chuckled, “I’m not smart enough for Lissa Bradley? I guess that’s why you only talk to guys like Chad Stewart.”

She scoffed, “Chad Stewart? It’s like talking to a brick wall.”

“And what’s it like talking to me?” he stood up and watched her re-organize the projector supplies on the cart.

“A child.”

“Oof, always right to the feels.” he stepped towards her, the classroom lights still out. It felt quieter as the day grew.

Lissa watched him get closer and stepped to the side of the cart.

“You’re high strung.”

“Maybe I should just be high.”

A boisterous laugh, “Lissa Bradley, high? On drugs?” He quieted, standing almost against her, she looked up, slight confused and stepped back. He followed until she backed into a desk. “No no no, you need stress relief. ”

“Relief?” She leaned on the desk and pressed her fingers onto the top to hold herself still.

“You need a dig ol’ bick between those thighs to get high.” He bent his knees with a small hip roll, his jeans brushing her bare knees.

Oh my go-

“Lissa? Is this fucking freak bothering you?” Chad flipped the lights on.

Eddie threw his hands up and stepped back. “No, man, we were just joking around.”

Lissa looked at Chad, cheeks red. “No, he’s just being his version of hilarious.” she looked back at Eddie, “Clear the board.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Lissa spoke low, “What are you doing here?”

“I’ve been looking for you, I wanted to know if you wanted to go out tonight.”

She hesitated. “Oh, I don’t know, Chad. I kind of have a lot going on.”

Eddie interrupted, still erasing the chalk from the board. “I would go if I were you. Sounds like the stress relief you need.”

“Shut up, freak. What’s he talking about?”

With a shaky voice, “Oh, you know, I’m just super stressed out and he was saying how I needed to go out more and have fun.”

“The freak is right, though. Let me take you to the movies, get your mind off things.”

“Yeah, okay,” Lissa looked away sheepishly.

“I’ll pick you up at 6.”

“Yeah, sounds good.”

Grinning, Chad walked out the classroom.

“Good choice.” Eddie spoke against the back of her head.

She jumped, not expecting him to be so close. Did he put a fucking mute on his boots?

He leaned and whispered into her ear, “Sounds like you’re going to get the stress relief you need after all.” the depth of his voice tickled her ear and she clenched her jaw. He bumped the back of her shoulder with the front of his as he walked passed her and towards the door.

“To-”

“Tomorrow at 3!” he called out before disappearing.
