König would NOT cheat!

heated rant about my opinions on könig's loyalty to his s/o

part of the exploring könig's character series (organized masterlist to come)

disclaimer: i am not judging any fanfic writers for the things that I am going to discuss in this post. i don't mean hate towards anyone. but also, this fandom has really gotten away from how characters are in canon just to satisfy the readers' desires. fanon is NOT canon, and it should not be!

König would not cheat.

think about it. he grew up likely with few to no friends, could never really connect with anyone, was an outcast. then his s/o comes along and completely breaks his walls down and accepts him for who he is. do you seriously think he would cheat on the one person he ever trusted enough with his whole heart? the only person in his whole life who ever accepted him for who he was?

i've seen some fanfictions that said König would come back from a bar with hickeys all the time, or how he would cheat on you repeatedly throughout your relationship. (firstly, in all of these fanfictions, the reader stayed with König. idgaf who you're with, if you've been cheated on, leave! this is setting such a bad example for impressionable people). I don't think the writers who described these types of scenarios understand social anxiety or what it's like to grow up ostracized. when someone has social anxiety (i can speak on this topic since I have it) they're not going to just go up to strangers and start making out with them or do random hookups. especially in König's case, since not only does he have social anxiety, he is often feared by others and adopted the "lone wolf" persona so that people would leave him alone. for him, it was easier that way.

and why the hell would König even want to cheat on the one person he can trust? how could König give up that trust and love just for a one night stand or some random drunken make-out at a bar? also, i don't really see König going to bars by himself, let alone making out or fucking a random girl. König knows what it's like to be alone, to have absolutely no one. do we really think König would give up his s/o just for some momentary fun? i don't think so at all.

i can't even imagine how much time it would take to build a relationship with König, and how much effort it would take too. I think König would see and appreciate that time and effort you invested in him and rarely, if ever, take it for granted. he would appreciate everything you do to make him feel accepted and loved. and to give that up to kiss a random girl? he'd never.

i honestly don't know how to best articulate into words the intense emotions i have on this topic. it literally boils my blood when I see fanfic writers saying König would cheat on you, because he fucking would NOT! people who think a life-long outcast would cheat on the one person who ever accepted them have clearly never known what it's felt like to truly be an outcast.

i will shout it from the rooftops. König would not cheat.

and fine, let's say hypothetically he DID cheat... I don't think he'd ever be able to look you in the eye again. he'd be so ashamed for what he did when he remembered how lucky he was to have your love. he would be quiet and shaky and would never forgive himself. he wouldn't be able to shamelessly come back to you every time like so many fanfictions I've read said he could

Sometimes I just stop and think how weird it is that people are so heated over modern readers generally reading "confirmed bachelor" as gay when that is literally what contemporary readers at the time of publication were also doing??? If a man was a confirmed bachelor, they generally just assumed he was gay. It was a specific euphemism for queerness at the time. Like why do you think those words existed? A specific label for a specific type of man? Like, come on, readers, you're most likely not stupid, and queer folks have been included in narratives from the dawn of time (Epic of Gilgamesh, anyone?). Just because it was illegal or unconventional does not mean the author didn't include queer characters and narratives. It just meant including them in subtler, more creative ways that couldn't be fucking prosecuted, but it's good to know that you are the physical embodiment of kakhi walls and prison decor so I'm spared the bother of wasting my own valuable time engaging with you.

Dragons Rising Needs To Do Better With Zane

Fix Zane's character and make him not a stereotype, not a plot device, not treated like shit. I am tired of seeing Lloyd take Zane's characterization of the "one with visions" I do not care that Lloyd got the dragon steroid injected into him, that was what made Zane interesting because look guys Zane's having visions of something about the future that involves him being blasted into another realm and being a genocidal emperor (everyone didn't care about that) But no holy shit Lloyd is having visions about the ninja dying and a blood moon (everyone cares about that because it involves them all in danger)

I understand having new characters and balancing them with the old ones, I get that, but you could have written both Zane and Jay out of Dragons Rising and nothing would change.

Zane has not done anything to warrant him even being in the plot as of right now. He stayed behind with a frog and a picture of his missing half trying to open a portal that can clearly be opened by The Savior Himself Lloyd when he goes into Dragon Steroid Mode most likely. The only thing going for him is that egg and finding Pixal and I am genuinely interested in how that will turn out.

"But Dragons rising only started and they are introducing a lot of characters and plots and we are about to get season 2-" The egg that Zane was in and him finding Pixal can be done in 3 or 4 seasons, after that then what? What is left for him to do because he obviously won't do anything near what anyone else is doing, he doesn't have a student to train, he doesn't have Dragon Steroids, and his name isn't Lloyd or Kai He does not have any long term progression in Dragons Rising like Lloyd or Kai does and he will most likely leave the main cast that he barely felt like he was apart of after a few seasons (after the Egg and Pixal things are taken care of)

Yeah, it's not all about Zane, I don't want that to be the case. Arin and Sora are the best things to come out of Dragons Rising, but treating Zane (hell even Jay) like this is insulting. Zane is a great character with one of the best character arcs in the whole series and I just want something new with Zane and not just have him on screen for 3 minutes and not again until 5 more episodes. I want that arc to be whatever is going on with the egg. I want that to be what makes Zane have the character arc he deserves and has needed since Season 11. His character is balancing between getting absolutely fucked over by the writers and decent character arc.

Will I still watch Dragons Rising? Of course. Is it good and do I enjoy it? Hell yes. Will I enjoy it more if Zane has more to do? Absolutely.

So, first off, this is not an attempt to kink shame (dubcon and noncon are great!) but I do keep seeing a thing in fics (I do NOT see this irl in kink spaces nearly as often) where like. A character will interrupt the flow of the scene to check consent

And I don't mean in an "are we still green?" Or "what's your color?" kind of way, but I mean. The author has tagged the fic and indicated via prose and/or author notes that they are doing their Due Diligence to make sure this fic is Righteously Consensual from top to bottom, No Question About It

And a character will ask for full sexual consent either directly or indirectly or renegotiate the boundaries of the kinks being practiced AFTER the sex acts have already begun.

Here's the thing: horny brain isn't great at making decisions! irl in kink spaces, there's often a lot of emphasis on negotiating BEFORE the scene begins, perhaps even with a space between negotiation and the scene if it's with a new/unfamiliar partner (maybe it's a few minutes while things are set up, maybe the partners negotiate a day or more in advance! It depends!), and not changing the parameters of the scene after someone is already horny or god forbid already in subspace.

Again, these are perfectly fine rules to break in fiction, when the author is aware of it (most characters are not going to be fully familiar with safe, sane, consensual practices and the traffic light system, nor would we want them to be!) but I'm increasingly finding fics where the author DOESN'T seem aware, which takes a normal fic (in-character, with reasonable but perhaps even somewhat dubious practices, which the author isn't emphasizing or preaching about) into Red Flag Territory (a character, OOC, yanking me out of the scene to behave like a PSA about consent instead of conforming to the horny tone of the scene, and perpetuating unsafe practices anyway)

If you are writing a master manipulator or someone who wants to have a gotcha, you totally said it was okay on a character they are trying to bone (which is well in the realm of non/dubcon) that's fine! This PSA is not aimed at you. But if you are trying to write someone who Cares Strongly About Consent, then perhaps be more aware of when is an appropriate time to escalate the situation (sexually speaking) or ask for consent!

Y'know what screw it I haven't seen Oppenheimer but I've seen plenty of jokes and I have two thoughts about this quote from a rhetorical and linguistics perspective:

"Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds."

"I am become" is the archaic form of "I have become", a.k.a the present perfect tense. It is not grammatically incorrect- just old as balls. As far as I know (and feel free to correct me), this quote is Oppenheimer's own translation from the Bhagavad Gita and therefore one he would have put a great deal of thought into. You can see similar phrases in Jane Austen novels and Shakespeare scripts, as well as in the King James bible. "I am become" is absolutely not on the level of "I haz cheeseburger" and I am getting REAL TIRED of seeing the two compared.

The nuance of "I am become death" is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from alternate phrases such as "I have become death" or "I am becoming death." "I am become" gives a sense of finality without being in the past tense; a sense of continuity without being imperfect. Using this archaic form of the present perfect is a rhetorical choice, and a very intelligent one at that- in other words, it sounds fucking cool and there's a reason all of us remember it to this day.

In summary: "lololol famous Oppenheimer quote has bad grammar" is a VERY SIMILAR sentiment to "Maybe the curtains are just blue" and some of y'all need to do 5 seconds of research before saying things on the internet because that's about how long it took for me to confirm my thoughts on this.

The overwhelmingly negative reception to Wish must be studied in the future because I have never seen a Disney movie get constantly critiqued and nitpicked to the tiniest of things as much as it and as I've said before I simply do not believe the film warrants it. People were writing YouTube essays on why the animation and the main character suck before the movie even came out. I've seen people point out supposed issues in the film that have existed in dozens of previous films but never got brought up until now..

For example, Moana follows the Disney princess story formula to a T, has a far more "adorkable" heroine, has no threatening villain, an animal sidekick who only exists to make funny faces and noises, and pretty much the only songs I see people talk about from that film are How Far I'll Go and You're Welcome... And these are all things people have critiqued Wish for but were dead silent about back then.

And the last thing I want to say is that while I do believe a lot of the criticisms of Wish are valid, I believe they are both exaggerated in how much they actually effect the bigger story and most importantly... the POSITIVES of Wish are almost never spoken of? Like no one else thought the villain was hella entertaining? That Star was loveable and it was impressive how they moved the plot without even speaking? That Asha was an active and passionate protagonist with a lovely singing voice? No one liked all the woven in Easter eggs to past Disney classics?

If only the flaws of something are ever pointed out and never it's strengths people's perception of that thing will be flawed. It will always be ironic to me that the first 2d incorporated disney film in over a decade.. the first Disney film with a classic villain in over a decade.. a film uniquely crafted to celebrate Disneys anniversary, is being branded as generic more than anything else. And people are refusing to go see it and even taking part on the "critiquing" (after stating they haven't seen it!) because if all that's being said is that it sucks it must be true right? I strongly feel Wish deserves better.
