"all we really know about this one is it's some kind of insult" Alhaithem gestured to the stone in the case "The first words of the beginning line should translate to 'your parent', with the second one saying 'you take that'. We can only assume it to be of insulting nature, unless you say otherwise...?" He looks toward you, curiously.
"...buys you megablocks instead of legos" you mumble unconsciously, holding in laughter because he wasn't wrong.
"What?" He leaned in to hear you better.
"Nothing, you're right but it's not an insult that really makes sense here" You swiftly move along to the next showcase, after reading it things become clear that these are from about the 2010's. "Alhaithem we should probably move on, most of these are obscure references to... plays, and jokes. Like this one" you point at the case "is Fre shavaca do".
"Fre...shaca do?"
"It's um, a joke about someone mis-writing a sign"
10/10 i cant believe this has been sitting here like the gem it is ToT
im so glad im posting all these at the same time tho bc i love confusing/bullying Alhaitham, call me a Kaveh kinnie ig

I'm an A-Level student and so many of my classmates use ChatGPT for essays in Law and RS and stuff - like, they sound proud of themselves, as if they're cheating the system and being clever? Just makes me feel very bleak. What are we doing man
Well, the unfortunate news for them is that they are going to struggle if they make it to uni.
This is the big problem with AI - it cannot analyse a single thing. If I were to say to you "What are the features Tumblr users would most want and why?", you are a human being with a brain and experiences and decision-making skills, and you could probably sit and come up with an answer. You would base that answer on things you personally find lacking, or want to see; you would also base it in things you have seen others bemoaning on the site.
For example, I reckon I'd say something like:
The permanent ability to boop people with a cat paw, which is implemented as opt-in. Also customisable, so you can choose whether you want a random cat paw to appear on your screen each time it happens to you. Also a different animation for super boop/evil boop, and maybe more boop options than those two, and maybe also different paw colours.
Actual enforcement of hate speech rules. We all agree to them when we join, so it's perfectly legal to delete someone for spouting Nazi shit AND YET.
No more banning or censoring queer folks' accounts
More ability to adjust the interface for disabled bloggers, e.g. colour and contrast, font, layout, switching off moving GIFs or other animations by default, etc.
Tag editing, it's frustrating having to delete whole tags.
Tag memory! Where have my tags gone??? For a year now I have slightly better luck on desktop, but for the most part, which of my tags are remembered by autofill and which are never, ever offered to me has been wholly divorced from how often I've used them. And my tags are often lengthy and odd, so it's become much harder to use mobile.
No data scraping. This is the anti-cap site thank you. Also on that note, get rid of the For You section and any other algorithmic tracking, because it's just as likely to show you a Nazi blog as an anti-Nazi one as long as you have spent any time at all discussing Nazism.
Better blocking ability, on that note.
Better search function
I could go on, but you get the idea. That's analysis that I've done, based on discussions I have seen and taken part in, and my own experiences.
I just asked ChatGPT. Here's what it had to say:
"Tumblr users have diverse preferences, but there are several features that many users would likely appreciate: 1. Improved Content Discovery: Tumblr is known for its vast array of content, so improving content discovery mechanisms such as personalized recommendations, trending topics, and enhanced search functionality can help users find more of the content they enjoy. 2. Enhanced Customization Options: Tumblr users value the ability to customize their blogs extensively. Providing more themes, layout options, and customization tools can empower users to express themselves creatively and make their blogs unique. 3. Integration of Multimedia Formats: Tumblr is a platform where users share various types of multimedia content, including images, GIFs, videos, and audio. Enhancing support for different media formats, improving media upload and management features, and optimizing the viewing experience can enhance user engagement. 4. Improved Mobile Experience: Many Tumblr users access the platform via mobile devices. Therefore, optimizing the mobile app for better performance, usability, and feature parity with the desktop version can greatly enhance the user experience. 5. Community Engagement Features: Tumblr has a vibrant community, so features that facilitate interaction among users, such as improved messaging, reblogging, tagging, and commenting functionalities, can foster a sense of community and increase user engagement. 6. Content Moderation Tools: Given the diverse content on Tumblr, providing users with robust content moderation tools, including options for filtering, blocking, and reporting inappropriate content, can help ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for all users. 7. Monetization Options for Creators: Many Tumblr users are content creators who would appreciate opportunities to monetize their content. Introducing features such as ad revenue sharing, subscription-based content, or integrated e-commerce capabilities can incentivize creators to produce high-quality content and invest more in their Tumblr presence. 8. Accessibility Features: Improving accessibility features such as alt text support for images, screen reader compatibility, and customizable text sizes and color schemes can make Tumblr more inclusive and accessible to users with disabilities. 9. Privacy and Security Enhancements: Enhancing privacy controls, data protection measures, and account security features can help users feel more confident and secure when using the platform, which is especially important given concerns about online privacy and security. 10. API and Third-Party Integration: Opening up Tumblr's API and allowing for easier integration with third-party services and apps can encourage innovation and development within the Tumblr ecosystem, providing users with more options and flexibility in how they use the platform. Overall, focusing on improving content discovery, customization options, community engagement, and user safety while also providing opportunities for creators to monetize their content can help Tumblr retain and attract users in a competitive social media landscape."
It's possible that feels alright, on first glance. But take a closer look.
Every point made is vague, and disconnected from any real life examples. In the very first point, it thinks we want better search functions (yes!) but also more algorithmic recommendations (no!). It wants us to have personalised recommendations AND better security, in fact, which are incompatible - but an LLM doesn't and can't know that. Monetisation of the platform is something that has historically faced appalling backlash from users, and this thing is suggesting ad revenue sharing and subscription services.
Because, its suggestions are generic suggestions. These are not Tumblr-specific. No mention of queerphobia, no mention of Nazis, and absolutely zero understanding of what the specific users on this site actually want.
... all of which is to say...
It's what is academically known as descriptive work. It lays out some facts, but there's no depth, no analysis, no interpretation of those facts at all. Why would we want third party integration? What apps are we calling for? Give examples. Would that aid ad-blocking? Search functions? In that case, wouldn't third-party integration be tackling the symptoms and not the cause? Shouldn't we work better ad-blocking and search functions into Tumblr at a base level?
And in school - even up to A Level - that's okay. You won't get top marks for that, because it's all too vague and too descriptive, but it's fine. School-level assignments tend to be more broad and less applied, too, which LLMs fare better with.
But in university, you start with descriptive facts, and then you are expected to analyse. If you cannot analyse, you run a very real risk of failing. Which means if you've spent your GCSEs and A Levels not bothering to learn those analytical skills and letting ChatGPT do the work for you, you are going to face an extremely uphill struggle when the expectations of study increase.
So, to round off, try not to get too discouraged. You know you aren't doing it, which means you are the one actually learning and developing and growing. Others will learn eventually, and probably more painfully. You do you!

Hello :]]
I was wondering if you do have any basic tips for ao3 use? :o
I saw ur other post and thought I’d ask, I’m pretty new to using for posting fics so if you have any advice it be very appreciated!! :DD
Remembered this ask and rushed to finally answer it!
For Posting
There is no algorithm. I see people talk about an algorithm occasionally, there is none! If you post at certain times, you may possibly get more attention because more people are on at that time, but there is no pushing. Just tag everything appropriately and you'll find your audience.
Do not advertise things on there. I don't mean you can't mention your socials on the author's notes, I'm saying you can't do paid advertisements, talking about your patreon, gofundme, etc. If it mentions money, don't. There are legal reasons for this, it's to protect the archive.
Placeholders are not useful!! You're more likely to get banned or reported than anything else!
For the descriptions, if you figure it out please tell me ;-:
It's better to over tag than under tag, also I'd try to use the premade tags first! freeform (usually lowercase and it doesn't autofill) are harder to search by.
This is my wife's suggestion. If you want to build an audience of people who recognize you over different fics, really recommend having a consistent style. Not posting schedule, though that can certainly be helpful, but style. Something about what you do is consistent enough people recognize you.
You love someone's work?? You write something based on something they wrote (with permission), write something for a friend or even just write something with someone in mind? You can gift them the work! It's still yours of course, but their name is attached and they'll see on their profile.
I don't know if this is still the case, but there used to be a problem where fics that were in collections could be made private by the collector. I'd be very wary of collection requests.
For Reading
Ao3 is an archive, not a social media. The reason I’m saying this is because you’ll find material that might make you go “That should be illegal to write about it”. You may think to yourself “I should report that! It’s awful!” And while sometimes it is deplorable! , it is rarely going to get taken down. The reason I put so much emphasis on this is people try to treat it like wattpad or tumblr. You can’t. It is not a social media.
Just like you can exclude tags, you can include them! Really recommend adding them to get what you’re looking for :)
Dead Dove Do Not Eat is not always a bad thing. Most of the time, it’s a tag intensifier. My recommendation is to look through the tags a second time, ask yourself if you really think it’ll be something you’re interested in, then continue if you want.
I always sort by most recently posted but there are other options! I think the default is most notes
Check out an author if you really like their stuff! I've found some really great fics this way.

Weekly Tag Wednesday
Thank you to @stocious for tagging me!!!
🔠 Name: call me Mechy (like mickey but mech like mechanic)
🌀How do you pronounce your own Tumblr handle in your head? Mick it to the man but said very quickly
🪟 When you look out the window right now what do you see? My blinds are never not closed. But if I were to open them I would see a wall.
💼 What is the most unusual profession someone in your family was in? Hmm well for a brief period of time in college I worked as the basketball team’s mop boy. As in, I was the one who sat on the sidelines with a fancy mop and had to run out and wipe away the sweat left on the floor each time they fell. Very glamorous, I know 💅
🎨 What hobby were you really into as a kid? I was weirdly into survival stuff. Like, I has multiple wilderness survival books, I knew how to set up a campsite, I had a pocket knife collection, I would bring a little emergency kit everywhere with me. Mind you, I never actually went camping until I was like 20. I still have some of the survival books and I still have an amped up version of my emergency kit in my bag tho lol.
🔍 First autofill google result when you type ‘How can I…?’ “how can i help you in spanish” ???
🎶 If you were the main character in a sitcom, what song would be playing during the opening credits? Hmmm I’d say either I’m Just a Kid by Simple Plan or It’s Jungle Out There by Randy Newman (which is coincidentally the opening credits song to my favorite sitcom when I was a kid. Monk counts as a sitcom, right???)
🎬 What’s the last movie you watched? Did you enjoy it? What genre is it? I think it was Nope ? I loved it. Horror/ sci-fi.
🎥 What is your favourite movie genre? I honestly don’t watch movies that often. I guess I would say queer films? But the more upbeat ones. The Gay Deceivers, To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar, But I’m A Cheerleader, The Birdcage, Jennifer’s Body, etc.
What movie would you recommend? All of the above listed. Also not a movie but each episode is basically movie length so I am going to seize this chance to recommend Psychopath Diary
👯‍♂️ Do your IRL humans know about your fandom life? If you’re a creator, do they know you create? My friends do. They are mostly aware that I write fics/do art on occasion. My family absolutely not.
🚣🏼‍♀️If you could do one activity with your pocket/fandom friends what would it be? Omg I fumble irl interactions so bad. Ummm card games. I feel like Cards Against Humanity would be hilarious with some of yall.
Okay tagging @gallovichhhh @jademickian @sillygoofygoobersstuff @mickeym4ndy and @sgtmickeyslaughter if you want if not I'm just saying howdy 🤠

🖤 Weekly Tag Wednesday 🖤
This week's tag game is a mishmash, a ragbag, a hodgepodge -if you will - of questions from the group. Thanks for the tag, @jrooc ! 🖤
🔠 Name: just doshi
🌀How do you pronounce your own Tumblr handle in your head?
doshiart? nothing special except that I still add 'art' as part of the nickname
🪟 When you look out the window right now what do you see?
only grayness now
💼 What is the most unusual profession someone in your family was in?
uhh idk, my aunt gives massage
🎨 What hobby were you really into as a kid?
Drawing (it didn't worked out for me, I was upset and often droped it, but hey look where I am now). Photography, usually of nature or animals. Also a lot of crafting things: quilling, embroidery with thread or beads, polymer clay modeling, made friendship bracelets, scrapbooking greeting cards (I tried to make them just like my mom did), little felt toys,,, *scratching my head* Ohhh! I also loved so much dolls. I sewed clothes for them, made furniture, took photographs. It was fun.
🔍 First autofill google result when you type 'How can I...?'
'How can I Help You?' song by Kevin Devine
🎶 If you were the main character in a sitcom, what song would be playing during the opening credits?
Alittle. by ROMES (i'm okay)
🎬 What's the last movie you watched? Did you enjoy it? What genre is it?
Heavy Trip // Yes! It was funny. I once started learning Finnish, so it was fun to find known words. // comedy, music band
🎥 What is your favourite movie genre?
I still can't decide. Drama?
What movie would you recommend?
Probably Blade Runner, both movies. Loved the old one, but Blade Runner 2049 is good too
👯‍♂️ Do your IRL humans know about your fandom life? If you're a creator, do they know you create?
I don't like talking about it, so only my bf and my sister know. btw my sister had a Gallavich era when I was a child lmao. I think it's very nostalgic for her when I show her my arts.
🚣🏼‍♀️If you could do one activity with your pocket/fandom friends what would it be?
Honestly? It's so difficult to imagine because I'm hard to catch lmao. I'm too introverted and probably need to be pinned against a wall and schedule our meeting for a week in advance.

Tagging (So that it actually works)
Tumblr media
Okay, so I think I just sorted my tagging issue, thanks to some help from @your-nanas-house. Putting this post up for @kiss-me-cill-me and @rysko who were asking and anyone else who might find this information useful.
Tumblr media
I believe that, in order to ensure the tag works, you have to click the autofill result for their name instead of simply typing or copy/pasting.
Some of you also haven't been tagged because for whatever reason your name doesn't show up on the autofill results when you type "@[your username]. (More on the potential causes of this in the Notes section.)
That being said, sometimes it does work when you copy/paste a name. But it doesn't seem to be gauranteed. How exactly this works, I don't know, but I do know a couple ways to check to see if someone has been tagged in a post that has been published.
Tumblr media
~ On Desktop ~
Hover over the tag with your cursor; it should show a preview to their blog. Note that even if the blog is underlined, the only way it seems to be sure is to check if you get this preview!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~ On Mobile ~
Tumblr media
Above is a screencap from my mobile device on Tumblr, using dark mode. I don't know how it looks on other themes; for all you psychopaths who don't use dark mode, I am sorry but you are on your own on account of my laziness, but if anyone knows, please feel free to pile on or let me know and I can add it to the post! (I don't want to test every single theme.)
BUT, provided you are using dark mode, anyway, tags that work should be grey and NOT underlined. Tags that don't register as tagged will be white as seen above.
Tumblr media
~ Notes ~
TIP: When you are typing the tag, it should also underline in your draft. But it doesn't always tag the person and you should do one of these checks, depending on if you're on mobile or desktop (tipception: it's a LOT easier on mobile because you can just take a quick peek).
Also, some blogs CANNOT be tagged due to their blog settings. There is a lovely post here made by @that-damn-girl that explains how to fix this and offers a couple other tips if you're still finding you can't be tagged.
Tumblr media
If anyone has anything to add or I missed anything, please let me know! Maybe I am a caveman when it comes to this stuff and a bunch of you guys already knew this stuff, but this in case anyone wasn't aware and are fellow cavemen like me, here's what I've learned. <3

Fuck It Friday
Tagged by @gayhoediaz ✌🏻
Keeping my tradition of giving you a whole chunk of something I wrote and then abandoned lol. Started this way back in October 2021 for Halloween, but very quickly realized that while I actually really love this opening, it is extremely not the tone the rest of the fic would’ve taken—I actually shared a later scene back then, if anyone who’s been following me that long remembers, and it was much lighter in tone. So not wanting to change the beginning and not wanting to change the rest I just kind of. Quit. But I think about it every once in a while, so maybe one day I’ll crack it. But for now, have the opening.
Tagging the usual suspects up here since the rest is under a cut: @rewritetheending @fiona-fififi @comaboybuck @elvensorceress @sibylsleaves @eddiequinns @alyxmastershipper @achillesbuck @clusterbuck @ajunerose @wandiinha retroactively adding @megsvstheworld because I couldn’t remember your new url and tumblr wouldn’t autofill it and then I…forgot to go back and add it rip sorry
Oh, and fyi? This is kind of gory
Buck comes to in the back of the ambulance, lurching up with a hungry gasp.
It’s a good thing, too, because he looks down at his chest just in time to watch the ragged claw marks seal themselves up and fade into pale pink lines, and that probably would’ve been hard to explain at the hospital.
“What the fuck,” Hen breathes.
“Buck,” Eddie gasps, his voice raw like he’d been screaming, and the last several minutes come back to Buck in a blur of pain and motion.
They’d been called to an empty warehouse, the caller not giving much information past “massive blood loss” and “hurry,” so they’d had no idea what they’d be walking into.
Buck’s not sure there were any words that could’ve prepared them.
It was like walking into a horror movie. Buck has seen a lot of blood, and gore, and death in his time as a firefighter, but this…
He could smell blood in the air, so thick the taste was on his tongue. He saw Hen actually cover her mouth like she might be about to gag, something he’d never seen her do.
Worse somehow than the smell and the taste was the sight.
He’d never seen someone in so many pieces. There are so many pieces he’s not even sure if it is just one person. But no matter the number they are far beyond the 118’s help.
It took every ounce of willpower he could muster to not turn tail and run back to the safety of their vehicles.
“Was… Was there an explosion?” Eddie asked hesitantly, eyes searching for any evidence to back that up.
Even Bobby looked shaken as he turned back to them. “Something’s very wrong here, let’s move back to the truck and call in LAPD-“
Whatever he was about to say next was cut short when something massive and grey came out of nowhere and slammed into him, and everything from that moment until he woke up in the ambulance is a confusing blur that he has to be getting wrong.
Because he remembers some sort of… creature. Like a wolf, but so much larger, with teeth and claws that tore at them like sharp knives.
“You stopped breathing,” Eddie says now, almost an accusation, the sound bringing Buck back to the present.
“I’m breathing now,” he assures him, swallowing thickly at the haunted look in his boyfriend’s eyes.
“Uh, guys,” Chim says, and the tone of his voice gets their attention immediately. He’s staring down at his arm, the uniform sleeve shredded to bits.
“Is it worse than we thought?” Hen demands, shifting out of shock at Buck’s rapid recovery and into paramedic mode.
“No,” he says at Hen grabs his arm and starts to assess. “There’s nothing there.”
“What?” Eddie demands.
“That fucking whatever the fuck it was bit me right here on the arm, but it’s gone.”
“That’s not possible,” Hen says, her voice shaky even as she wipes the blood off his arm and reveals unbroken skin.
“And Buck sitting up right when I thought we were about to have to call time of death is, Hen?”
“Time of death…?” Buck mumbles faintly, but other than Eddie’s hand grasping his wrist tightly his words go unnoticed.
“We- we were just wrong, about how severe his wounds were-“
“How’s your leg, Hen?”
Hen stops, her jaw working. “It’s fine.”
“Funny, because I know I saw-“
“Hey,” Eddie snaps, voice quiet, eyes darting towards the cab. “We need to table this. Hen, alert the driver and the hospital that it was a false alarm, Chim, get Bobby on the radio so he knows Buck’s ok.”
Buck feels like he’s tuning in and out. The image of that creature is seared into his brain, the fact that it bit Chim, maybe Hen too, the way they’ve all healed.
It can’t be possible.
But he knows the creature he saw was a wolf. Much bigger than any he’s ever seen before, but a wolf nonetheless.
“Werewolf,” he breathes, eyes wide.
Eddie releases his hold on Buck’s wrist in favor of his hand. “Hey, you’re ok,” he says, and only then does Buck realize he was on the verge of hyperventilating.
“How bad was I hurt?” He asks quietly.
Eddie looks away. “Buck…”
“Eddie, please, I need to know. How bad was it?”
A war plays out in a matter of seconds on Eddie’s face, and then it looks like he has to steel himself. “You were… eviscerated. It was…” he trails off, shaking his head. “Suffice to say it’s a miracle we even got you in the ambulance alive.”
Buck doesn’t know what to do with that. He’s faced death before, but that… He brushes it aside because he has to. “And you? You’re ok?”
Eddie huffs a bitter laugh. “Yeah, I just have some scratches on my back. Somebody had to play hero and put himself in front of me even though that thing had already knocked him on his ass,” he says, a bit of an edge in his voice.
Buck doesn’t remember doing it but he doesn’t have to to know it’s true. “And Bobby?”
“Bit banged up. You’re the only one that was seriously hurt.”
“What happened to it? The were- the creature?” He can’t bring himself to say werewolf again. It makes him sound crazy, even if that’s all this night has turned out to be.
“Ran off. I cracked its skull with my Haligan so I don’t know if it got far.” Eddie looks at the shredded remnants of Buck’s shirt. “Actually, I guess it’s probably fine.”
Buck shudders to think of that thing still out there, after the sight they found and what it did to him.
“Buck, talk to Cap, tell him you’re ok.” Chimney interjects, sounding frustrated.
Buck takes the offered radio. “Hey Cap, I’m fine,”
“What the hell, Buck? You were… You-“
“I know. But I’m fine now, promise. You’ll see for yourself back at the station.”
“Are you sure you don’t need a hospital?”
“I’m sure. We’ll see you at the station.”
——
The perils of a modern design incorporating glass instead of proper walls is there’s nowhere to go to not be gawked at when everyone is nothing but torn clothes and bloodstains.
“Roof,” Bobby said after taking in the sight of them. His eyes lingered on the scraps of fabric hanging across Buck’s chest, like he hadn’t believed he was ok until he’s seeing it.
Buck gets it. He’s still trying to wrap his head around it.
They file out on the roof, Eddie staying glued to Buck’s side, but it’s not like he minds, he can’t imagine not feeling untethered with all that’s happening right now.
Bobby’s still looking at him like he might vanish.
“I’m fine,” he insists.
“Not that I’m complaining, but how?”
“Cap… Did you get bitten, or scratched?” Chimney ventures.
Bobby’s brow furrows. “I think it scratched me, on the shoulder,” he answers, tugging at a tear in his uniform to look at his skin underneath. “I don’t see anything, must not have broken the skin.”
The rest of them exchange a glance, and Chim takes the lead again. “Then why is there blood on your uniform?”
“It’s probably Buck’s, what is going on?”
“We were all bitten or scratched. But all the wounds have healed,” Buck answers. They’d checked Hen’s leg and Eddie’s back on the way back to the station, all there was were the faintest of marks, almost impossible to see if you didn’t know exactly where to look.
“That’s impossible. We must’ve all just thought we were wounded,” Bobby argues, not sounding convinced of his own words.
“You saw Buck. He was… He stopped breathing, in the ambulance, but then he started healing, rapidly. I saw it with my own eyes,” Hen admits.
“Maybe we were dosed with something. A hallucinogen at the scene.”

Mimble's Mystified Muddle...
Tumblr media
I expect it's user-error, but I am finding several aspects of Tumblr completely baffling. Any help would be appreciated.
Surely it's possible to search your Follower/Following list for someone's blog? At the moment I have to scroll up and down trying to find the picture that I remember goes with that blog. If someone changes the picture I have to read through the list, but being a slow reader it takes a while.
I know I can search Tumblr for an exact blog name (although that doesn't always seem to work), but is there a way to make searches autofill or at least suggest things that start with the letter - so if I was searching for @firelightmuse (for example ) I could search my Followers by typing in F and it would suggest all the followers starting with F? @firelightmuse is a good example of this, because my ADHD brain knows it starts with "fire" and ends with "muse", but the middle bit often escapes me and I end up searching for firesidemuse or firelitmuse or firefightersmuse etc.
Is it possible to search your own posts? Or if I want to find a previous post of mine (for example when someone asks a question I've already done a good answer for a few months ago) do I really have to scroll through hundreds of posts to find it? Surely there must be a way to search your own posts by keyword or something?
I tried clicking on the tags to find it, e.g. "mimble sparklepudding", but that shows me every mention of "mimble sparklepudding" on the whole of tumblr ever, including other people's posts or shout-outs.
Sorry I'm sure I'm missing some very obvious things or doing things in a very cack-handed way, but any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your patience in advance!

April Fanfic Recs
Here are the fics that I’ve really liked this month. All of these are complete. Enjoy!
Fandoms: Boku no Hero Academia (2), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1), Buffy/MCU Crossover (1), Dragon Age (5), Haikyuu!! (1), Merlin (1), Sense8 (1), Stranger Things (1), Voltron: Legendary Defender (1)
Find March’s Recs here or browse my fanfic recs tag.
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia Title: Brain Pain  Author: RayShippouUchiha Pairing: None Rating: General Word Count: 2,430 Summary: “Oh ho ho,” Izuku chortles into the darkness of his closet even as he grabs a bottle of water up so he can start gnawing on the cap. “I think the fuck not you raggedy-armed bitch.” It’s easy enough to start typing out a reply even with one hand and his vision sometimes blurring in and out. “I know a guy with more arms who’ll be a way better hero than you ever were,” Izuku mumbles around his water bottle, one eye squinted closed as he puts all of his faith into his phone’s extensively trained spell check and autofill functions.
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia Title: There Is A Pattern Here Author: lovelysandlonelys Pairing: None Rating: Teen Word Count: 9,309 Summary: Midoriya Izuku was just barely keeping his grades afloat. It was a hard thing to do when you were quirkless, because quirkless people were less evolved beings and couldn't possibly be up to par with their quirked classmates. And better than them? Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is a detailed (but not extensive) guide to how I tag reblogs. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for something more specific to be tagged so that it can be filtered for your benefit. Examples: #non-con, #choking, #breeding, etc.
Because of the current state of this blog, not all of the hyperlinked tags lead anywhere. This will change over time. Not all of the tags listed here are hyperlinked because of how I’ve chosen to format them. This will not change over time.
I’m more than happy to tag other things so that you can filter them from your dashboard for yourself. Just reach out and let me know! 🩶
Tumblr media
#ace of books answers – how I will tag asks (sticky notes) and submissions (bulletin board)
#ace of books wants to read – self-explanatory; fics that are on my tbr (sometimes I’ve already skimmed them, but I need to come back and do an actual read through)
#ace of books reads – also self-explanatory; fics that I have finished reading
#ace of books reviews – sometimes I’ll write actual thoughts about fics, sometimes I’ll scream in the tags. this is not a rating system of any kind, it’s just a way to organize the fics that I’ve written thoughts for and those that I have not.*
*(Sometimes I’ll have read a fic without reviewing it. I do always intend to come back with my thoughts, it might just not be in a timely manner.)
#writer: ____ – easy way to navigate all the fics from a given author on my blog
#character: ____ – easy way to navigate all the fics for a given character on my blog
#fandom: ____ – easy way to navigate all the fics in a given fandom on my blog
#fandom: original work – fics or posts that are original content from an author. it’s labelled with a #fandom tag for consistent formatting reasons.
#crossover: ____ – fics that take place in a pre-established fandom that is not its own (mythology aus, modern aus, canon adjacent aus, other "non-fandom" aus, etc. are not tagged this way; they aren't tagged at all)
#note to self: ____ – self-explanatory; it’s a note to myself for a given fic; sometimes a warning, sometimes a reminder
#smutty reads – fics that contain explicit sexual content of some nature (implied sexual content/things like “heavy petting” do not get this tag); #non-con/#dub-con fics and most other kinks are currently tagged this way. sometimes i batch queue posts (mostly chapter fics) and i don't always take the time to tag the one fic that has sexual content; this does get rectified eventually.
#selfship works – fics that were written for someone/by someone in a selfshipping context. if anyone finds themselves in this tag and would like me to remove said fic, don’t hesitate to reach out!
#might have already reblogged this? – a sorting function for myself because the queue is currently extensive, and I’m often collecting works from various sources, so I can’t always keep track if I’ve already reblogged a fic or not. once I’m finished developing this blog and the queue has mostly run out, I’ll go back and delete duplicates. (there might be multiple tags pertaining to the same message; did you know that if a tag only exists in your queue, tumblr won’t autofill it?)

Letter to Tumblr
The tagging system has…changed? I think? It used to be that tags would be "saved" for future use. By saved, I mean "would appear for quick access and autofill of desired tag above the popular tag autofilll cut." Which could be difficult/annoying for the taggers who "talk" in the tags and thus only use a single tag once (me) or misspell words in the tags (also me) but was super helpful for those who used the tags to organize things and aid in search features across tumblr (still me).
But now most of the tags aren't saved. But some are? This is something that has happened in the past, where an update has wiped most/all of my frequently used tags from the Saved Tag section. But now, my tags are not saving even when I use them frequently or when I select Popular Tags. I've had to type out or select the "i'm not crying you're crying" tag several times now. I have a personal tag that I use frequently and was actually brought up during the April Fools Tag posts several years ago: "this is an important skill to learn children" which is frequently used on posts of organization/cleaning/how to communicate with others/reminders to love oneself/etc. Yet no matter how many times I write it out, it never goes to the Personal Saved Tags section.
This seems to be an unintentional bug (unlike several other intentional bugs tumblr users are actively working to code against such as the new Twitter styling) and merely wanted to bring your attention to it so the coders can either fix it or proudly proclaim that the new problem was intentional (like flagging several G rated things as "mature content" due to hating on the LGBTQ+ community becoming popular again). Thank you for your time.

hey Tumblr? can you explain to me why on mobile, when I reblog a post with tags, and it autofills prev's tags, this autofill doesn't include any content warnings?
I seriously cannot imagine what purpose this serves. I'm clearly comfortable seeing it since I saw the post, so why would you add that extra step when I try to properly tag it in the same way?
I can't help but feel like its some vaguely shitty way of attempting to sanitize the site.

re-learning html without the pressure of a project deadline
When practicing HTML again, I worked through a PowerPoint presentation given to us by my lecturer Phil. It went a lot smoother than expected, and actually was a lot simpler than I thought it would be. I decided to document my process of going through it:
Tumblr media
To start off with I created a NotePad file and saved it on my desktop under the name "index.html" as the tutorial advised. I have also experimented with other coding software - such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Visual Studio Code - but this was my first time coding without any of the helpful autofill suggestions and colour-coding both of these applications offer.
Tumblr media
Next, I set up the basics of the HTML page, including its document type and title. Then I added my first heading and paragraph. I decided to keep my text pretty clear and to the point so that I wouldn't get mixed up looking through the code.
Tumblr media
After this I experimented with lists! We didn't really need anything like this when coding our Narrative Project, so it was nice to just have fun and explore the many possibilities HTML has to offer.
As I have had experience coding images from the previous project, I decided to skip these for now and focus my learning on things which I didn't know.
Tumblr media
The next thing I decided to try was "inline frame" or <iframe> tags. The presentation I worked through describes inline frames as "An HTML document embedded inside another... Typically, MS Stream or YouTube videos." To play with this, I tried to link a YouTube video (to make myself chuckle, I decided on this video posted by the account Rat. However, even though my code was correct, YouTube wouldn't show the video on the page, so I ended up scrapping this feature.
Tumblr media
So that the Horizontally Spinning Rat video still got a feature on the page, my next experiment was with hyperlinks! I tried this a couple of different ways, first of all by leaving it as just a generic hyperlink that opens in lieu of whatever webpage you're on, but - once again, supported by the tutorial provided - was able to change it so that the video opened in a new tab when clicked.
Tumblr media
The last thing I wanted to experiment with was adding boxes and borders and I did this by attempting to use the CSS box model. I learned the base code for this from this W3Schools tutorial, and used it to essentially add a pink border around all of my <div> code (which essentially gives some really clean line breaks).
All in all, I really enjoyed this exercise. Admittedly the code I produced here is nothing special, and the web file is quite plain to look at, but as I have already used a lot of style functions for other projects I wanted to focus purely on things which were new to me. Coding in NotePad wasn't as hard as I was worried it would be, either, though it was frustrating having to comb through personally to figure out what wasn't working each time I made a mistake (I decided to leave those moments out of my walkthrough as there would have been many.) In the future, when I have more time, I would love to explore creating my own websites in this way, and giving them more interactivity.
My newfound interest in interactive websites I owe almost entirely to the ARG Welcome Home, created by Tumblr user partycoffin. ARG stands for Alternate Reality Game, and essentially these games use real world mediums like websites and social media to tell a story (. I feel particularly inspired by Clown's website as it is of the psychological horror genre, and utilises a lot of hidden/floating text elements to tell its story. I would love to have the ability to create something like it one day, I just think it's so cool.

CHANGES THIS YEAR
- We now have a brand new Request Database this year! Unlike previous years where mods had to hand copy requests into a separate Google Doc, the Database will automatically populate who and what people are requesting. (Should come in handy when writing treats or looking for inspiration.)
A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO SIGN-UPS BELOW THE CUT:
1. Sign in to Ao3
If you don’t have an Ao3 account, contact the mods for help!
2. Go to the Black Emporium signup field (link)
3. Scroll to the “Requests” field
There are several different components of this field:
Relationship:
Enter one, two, or three approved relationships that you would like to see in a fanwork created for you. This field will autosuggest approved pairings. If your pairing does not show up, it may be that you have fallen victim to a known bug of Ao3's that we cannot fix, wherein pairings in a tagset do not autofill. If this happens, simply type it in as it appears in the tagset.
Additional Tags: You can request fanfic, fanart, or both. Selecting "any" is treated the same as selecting both.
Letter: If you have written a letter on an external website (such as Tumblr/Wordpress/Dreamwidth/Google Docs), you may link it here.
Description: Here is where you can provide additional detail about what you would like to see in a fanwork, both in general and for specific pairings. Good things to include (in this box, a letter, or both) are general likes and dislikes, preferred content rating, and Do Not Wants. Please remember to put your DNW's (do not wants) in the Ao3 sign up form - we can only take action if you put your DNW in your Ao3 sign-up form because it is the only thing we can absolutely guarantee that your creator will be able to access.
Remember that anyone who creates fanwork for you must respect your Do Not Wants. If you do not enter anything into this box, and you do not have a link to a letter, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified pairing(s). If you have any preferences or things you do not want, we would encourage you to add them. It makes the process smoother for all involved.
Here are some things commonly put in the description box:
Likes/Wants:
- Frequently it can be considered helpful to your author or artist if they have some idea of what you like to see, and what you don't. For example:
I love F!Adaar/Sera because I think the idea of them merrily pranking their way around Skyhold is so much fun. Please don't write me something sad about them.
Do Not Wants:
- Stuff that makes you uncomfortable, or just plain stuff that is Not Your Thing. While the Black Emporium does not believe in kink shaming or otherwise insulting people for their own personal taste, we do want people to let their artists or authors know what their limits are. You don't have to give any reasons for this; "no x/y/z" gives your creator plenty of info to discern where your limits are.
We can only take action if someone writes you something against your DNWs if it is in your sign-up.
Prompts:
Prompts can be just about anything, but they're meant to be ideas that you'd like to see that can help give your artist or author something to work off of. Sometimes this can be a prompt or a question you'd like explored (for example: What if Solas found himself falling for M!Trevelyan? How would he feel about potentially falling for a human?) or an idea you'd love to see (Josie and M!Cadash snuggled up in front of a fire, please!) or just a few words of inspiration (Leliana/Josephine - secrets, lies, ravens).
Details about your character(s):
It is fairly common for people to give basic descriptions of their characters if it is a character where their appearance or personality may vary (ex: Wardens/Hawkes/Inquisitors), particularly if fanart is requested. These descriptions can be very basic indeed (ex: purple hawke), or extremely detailed (ex: This is Celeste Trevelyan, she loves her squad more than life itself, pink hair, dusky-rose skin, built like she could bench press you six ways from sunday).
Bucket Requests:
You may also use the description field to note additional pairings that you would be willing to receive. You may find this option helpful if you are willing to consider different Warden or Inquisitor backgrounds for your specified pairing that have been nominated. You are limited to an additional ten pairings specified in this manner. Please fill out the form entirely before filling in pairings manually in the description; those that you fill in in the relationship field (the first 30) will take priority.
Things you should not put in the description field:
“I would like anything but nasty [kink]. I think people who write that are gross and nasty.”
Please do not insult people who like something you dislike. It’s Not For You, and That’s Okay. “No [kink]” expresses this much better than a long explanation of why you don’t like [kink].
“I’m only choosing this to get to three nominations. Please don’t write it.”
While we know someone who signs up for a, b and z may want a and/or b more than z, but please don’t scream to your author or artist that what you may well match on is something you don’t want as much as other pairings. Writing something like this also reduces your chance at treats as well.
“Even though I said I wanted M!Solavellan, I’m fine with F!Solavellan too if you like that better.”
Please don’t tell people that you’d be alright with non-nominated pairings, as fics with only non-nominated pairings cannot be added to the collection.
Minimums and Maximums in Requests:
You are required to fill out a minimum of three request fields (Required: Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Letter, Description). Remember that you may put in one OR two relationships per request field, so the maximum number of pairings that you can list in this manner is thirty. Remember also that you must fill out at least 3 request fields, so if you fill 2 out with 3 requests in each "request box", Ao3 will still want you to add one more -- it's a good rule of thumb to fill at least three out with one request, then double up as you wish.
4. Continue to the “Offers” field
If it continues to give an error, please drop us a comment with the pairing so we can figure out what's going on. You also have the option to select any relationship.
By selecting “Any Relationship,” that means that you are willing to write or draw fanwork for, literally, ANY of the approved pairings.
The only limitation we will accept will be be a limitation of what category of relationship you want to create for: eg, Any F/F, Any M/M, Any F/M, Any Multi, Any Other, or Any Nonbinary. Anything else WILL BE REJECTED. You may NOT use this option to say, for example, “Any Cullen pairing”. This option is for any and all of the approved pairings in your designated category/categories. Do not use this option unless you are sure that any is truly what you want.
Additional Tags:
You can offer to create fanfic, fanart, or both. Selecting "any" is treated the same as selecting both.
Comments for mods:
Here is where you can provide additional detail about what you will and won’t create. As with your requests, you can provide general likes and dislikes as well as things that you absolutely will not do. If there is someone signed up you absolutely cannot stand, please write "don't match me to x" here; we won't ask details, we just won't match and this will be a fully confidential field. If you hate nugs, put it here, and we'll make sure you get at least one nug-free prompt and, ideally, a nug-free sign-up. We want you to have an assignment you'll be happy about, so if you've got something that would be triggering for you to create for, let us know. We can only take action based on our own knowledge, so the more information we have the better we can try to match you with what you really want. If you do not enter anything into this box, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified pairing(s) selected. If you have any preferences or do not wants, we would encourage you to add them. It makes the process smoother for all involved. None of the mods will blab over whatever you write; we just want you to have the best time possible with your assignment.
Minimums and Maximums in Offers:
You are required to fill out a minimum of three offer fields (Required: Fandom, Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Comments to mods). Remember that you may put in one or two relationships per request field, so the maximum number of pairings that you can list in this manner is twenty. Remember also that you must fill out at least 3 offer fields, so if you fill 2 offer fields out with 2 offers in each "box", Ao3 will still want you to add one more offer field even though you have one over the minimum required amount of offers -- it's a good rule of thumb to fill at least three offer fields, each with one offer, then go back and double up or not, as you wish.
Bucket Offers:
You may also use the comments to mod field to note additional pairings that you would be willing to write if you have already filled thirty slots. You may find this option helpful if you are willing to consider different Warden or Inquisitor backgrounds for your specified pairing. You are limited to an additional ten pairings specified in this manner. Once again, those filled in the actual relationship: tags will take priority over those written in, so choose which pairing goes where carefully!
A Note on Matching
Black Emporium runs on OR matching, which means that you will match on one relationship out of the ones that you offer and request. You are guaranteed to match on ONE relationship; you may match on more, you may not. For your assignment, you can write what you matched on OR you can write any other couple on their sign-up form. You will only have to write or draw for ONE request, not all of them. The minimums will be one piece of artwork or one 1,000 word fic.

Is it just me, or is tumblr glitching again? Whenever I try to add tags to my posts on my phone, they no longer display autofill options for my tags. I can still type tags normally, but it's harder because I can't see the autofill options to help me find popular tags.
