Just Finished RWBY Volume 4...
...and I actually liked it?
[Spoilers Ahead, Y'all Know The Drill]
I mean, from what I've heard the Volume gets a lot of flack but honestly? I don't think it deserves it.
Yes, this is the first volume without Monty, and yes, the fights lost a bit of their momentum compared to earlier volumes, but aside from that... it's actually pretty good?
Alright, let me give you the play by play character style.
Ruby Rose
There goes my baby... off to destroy evil.
Ruby hasn't changed much, at least to a noticeable degree, compared to the rest of the cast. Actually, no, that isn't true, she just hasn't changed in a way that would force her overall character to noticeably shift. And I think that's fine. She's still a child at times, and is still really optimistic. But the thing is, she has matured. She doesn't immediately jump head first into danger like she used to, and it's clear she's still trying to process what happened at the Fall of Beacon. And yet, she's pressing on, and I'm glad that she and the rest of Team RNJR have each other's backs.
My only concern is what will go down in Mistral...
Weiss Schnee
Welp, Jacques Schnee, congrats! You've joined Cinder and Adam on the hit list I'm writing up!
The a-hole aside, I really like how Weiss played out this volume. According to what I've heard, volume 4 took place about 6-8 months after Beacon, so I'm kinda sad that Weiss was stuck home for all that time. On the bright side, we get a look at her progress on her summons, which looks to be coming along quite nicely. Then we see the concert, and ooh does that make my blood boil. I'll get to Jacques in a bit, but personally, I'd have no qualms watching him burn, figuratively, or literally.
Fly, Weiss, fly from the coup. Give your bastard of a father the metaphorical middle finger he deserves! (P.S. Klein is best dad.)
Blake Belladonna
Oof. I hurteth.
So Blake tends to stay away out of fear that she'll hurt her friends (i.e. some alternate version of survivor's guilt). In order to make amends from her point of view, she heads home to Menagerie. And once again, we're reminded on why humanity sucks sometimes!
Humans: Here, have this desert island for your large spanning species that covers just as much ground as we do.
Faunus: But... but it's so small!
Humans: Is it? Oh well, we can't have everything!
Me: Y'all LITERALLY have several freaKING CONTINENTS-!
*Ahem* That said, Sun came along! And we met Blake's parents! But first, Sun; I'll admit, I had mixed feelings about him being there at first, but that was mostly because Blake was being angsty and despite Sun's best intentions, virtually nothing he did help. Although, towards the end of the Volume, he managed to help Blake realize why her way of thinking was wrong, so props to him for that. Uh, Sun, could you maybe knock like a normal person? Wait, Blake, DON'T SLAP HIM FOR IT!!!
Ah, Kali, you're just as chaotic as Sun, oh dear... Ghira, never change, man. Never change.
Yang Xiao Long
Oof. I hurteth again. (ADAM!! LET ME DESTROY YOU, DANGIT!!!)
So Yang has been... adjusting to life after Beacon and without an arm. Oh, and Adam gave her PTSD! Isn't that just swell?
[When the find your corpse it'll have Wilt running through your spine and your skull severed with bullet shots from Blush I swear-]
Luckily, Yang gets a prosthetic from Atlas. I was afraid she'd reject it, but it's actually kinda nice to see that she takes to it rather well. And after seeing Oobleck (YAY!) and Port again, it's cool that she's just trying to find her footing. Though, Tai, you might wanna consider NOT flying to close to the Sun Dragon, capiche?
And all this culminates in Yang finally getting back out in the end of the Volume, hoping to find some answers. Hopefully she takes Tai's words to heart.
Jaune Arc
IT'S BIG BOI SWORD HOURS!!
But seriously, it was... kinda off-putting to see Jaune act so... morose. Granted, we all know why (PYRRHA!!!), but still. I'm glad his team is looking out for him and that he's slowly starting to recover like everyone else. His conversation with Ruby in Kuroyuri was also really touching. Come to think of it, didn't Blake have a similar conversation with Sun? The PARALLELS!
Also, that upgrade, tho. CUT THAT NUCKELAVEE INTO DUST, MY DUDE!!!
Nora Valkyrie+Lie Ren
You can't talk about one without bringing up the other.
Guys, this was as much a Renora volume as it was a RWBY-Post Beacon volume. The Fall triggers some odd behavior in Ren, but we figure out why pretty quickly once we reach the Kuroyuri episode.
First, young Ren and Nora... adorable!
Second, I was NOT ready for when Nora had to talk Ren out of charging blindly at the Nuckelavee. The slap. The way Ren sees young Nora and then sees current Nora. Nothing could prepare me. Nothing.
They are so SOFT together, it's just... <3
New Characters (and Old ones, too)
Lightning round, baby!
Qrow Branwen. So Qrow serves as the inside man. He knows what's been going on, and he fills the rest of us in. We also know why he tends to keep his distance, because his semblance brings bad luck to allies and enemies alike. The poor birb. Glad he managed to survive Tyrian!
Jacques Schnee. Egotistical manipulative piece of garbage whom I will not feel sorry for once he's put in his place. 'Nuff said.
Whitley Schnee. Mixed feelings. Mixed feelings everywhere. 'Cause on one hand, I've seen plenty of the fandom's takes on his character putting him in a positive light, but on the other he starts getting kind of unbearable after Weiss loses her title as heiress. Then I have to remind myself that Whitley is the "Fawn" reaction to trauma. Weiss is "Fight," Winter is "Flight," their mother is "Freeze," and Whitley is "Fawn." Stuff like that helps me contextualize that when Whitley says things about their dad like "It's foolish to not do what father asks," or "It's barbaric. It's beneath me. Beneath father," Whitley's not just saying that 'cause he's a bit of a brat. That's his coping mechanism to the abuse Jacques put him and the rest of his family through, and it's probably been a long time that he's been telling himself stuff like this so he can keep in his father's good graces and not risk getting a slap to the face like Weiss, while also trying to deal with the fact that Weiss and Winter get a freedom that he never had a chance to get. And you have to remember that Winter and Weiss were abused to, and that trying to blame Whitley's current condition on the two of them doesn't make things any better. They're not obligated to care about Whitley just as much as Whitley isn't obligated to care about them. It would be nice if either one of them could get through to him, but they were all trying to combat Jacques in one way or another. Whitley was just the odd one out. And if you really think about it, the biggest brain play you can take from all this is to blame it solely on Jacques. I swear, when I get to Volume 4 in my NWBE AU, one of my top priorities will be getting Whitley the ever loving hell out of that accursed mansion alongside Weiss, mark my words.
Klein Sieben. Ladies and gentleman, the only valid man under the Schnee roof! And a Seven Dwarves reference no less. Thanks, I love him! Glad he helped Weiss escape his father's clutches.
James Ironwood. Oh boy, boss man is starting to lose his grip on things. Granted, he's trying to do the right thing, but it's clear his paranoia is getting to him. You know crap is getting bad if the most valid person in all of Atlas simultaneously needs to be told to get a grip from Jacques of all people (especially if he's making a point). Hope this doesn't trigger a downward spiral...
Ghira and Kali Belladonna. Ghira is done and Kali just wants to have fun. I love their dynamic and interactions with Blake and Sun! It was a nice wind down from everything else going on, though I don't think that'll last for long.
White Fang. So we got three more WF members: Fennec, Corsac, and Ilia. The Albain brothers are sleezeballs already, since they're working with Adam and all. Ilia's working with them too, but I'll have to withhold my judgement since she appears to have an as yet undisclosed connection to Blake, but I don't want to get my hopes up since she already stabbed Sun, so... Low expectations, but still expectations.
Salem's Group. Yup, Salem's a villain alright. I'll be keeping my eye on her, she just reeks of trouble. Cinder apparently lost her voice... eh, probably for the best. Emerald, Mercury, get the ever-loving FRICK outta there, you're clearly out of your element! Hazel, you're... fascinating. Neutral Evil, perhaps? Watts, you're on my radar, especially with the last episode of the Volume. And Tyrian... well, he's clearly beyond the point of no return, entirely devoted to Salem, and his psycho-sadistic tendencies are enough to freak Cinder of all people out. Needless to say, I hope something or someone takes care of him before the damage becomes irreversible.
And for now, I'll wrap this up with Oscar Pine. I'll admit, it was interesting how they set up Oscar's character as a slow burn this Volume. We learn he lives a quiet life with his aunt in a barn, and at first we're wondering "Who the heck is this kid?" But then Ozpin shows up and suddenly everything is like "Oh... wait, WHAT!?" So yeah, Ozpin just brought another child into thia conflict. At least they're both not happy about it, and hey, they met Qrow! Hopefully that keeps things from getting too crazy down the line. We still need answers, after all.
Well, those are my thoughts. Sorry they took so long. Hopefully Volume 5 won't be so hard to complete. Well... cheers!

New comics this week?
The Batman’s Grave #6: Warren Ellis Batman did the thing Warren Ellis Batman does where he pulls out batarangs that he uses as swords, so everything from here on out is just a bonus.
Wonder Woman #753: Sadly, learning that Orlando’s Wonder Woman has apparently been just yet more filler from the start really explains why his heart doesn’t seem in it the way it was his first couple of times around. Liked Max Raynor’s art though.
Superman #21: I feel like my preference for Superman over Action has been vindicated big-time lately, as while Action is sort of turning into the kind of lumpy Bendis thing his runs so often do - albeit far from the worst version of that - Superman is determinedly consolidating around its best aspects. And between this and Superman: Villains, Bendis unbelievably followed up the worst element of his run in Rogol Zaar with the one-two punch of making Zod AND Mongul interesting for the first time ever.
Young Justice #14: It’s probably not a good sign that over a year in a character straight-up tells Young Justice “hey, I’m finally going to explain the premise of this book to you” and then the next issue caption says the next issue will do that and my immediate response was “I wonder how Bendis will manage to avoid doing that”. The solicits for the next few issues make it sound like shit is finally going to be happening, and maybe Walker will be able to pull him there, but if things don’t genuinely start picking up soon I’m out; Superman’s been lightning in a bottle but this book has been the reminder that at the end of the day, he’s still Bendis.
The Green Lantern Season Two #2: As far as I can tell there was no grand thematic purpose, Morrison just went ‘okay, I need a gimmick for this issue, how about I make fun of the way I write dialogue for 20 pages?’, and that’s a-okay by me; over the moon this baby is getting its full original planned run just as I feel like I’m finally really getting into it (thanks in no small part to Ritesh Babu’s writing on it for Adventures in Poor Taste and on Twitter).
RWBY #6: Apparently this book has been controversial among the fandom? I suppose really basically every single element of the series has been controversial among the fandom and this is simply no exception, but while I may be biased given I started watching the series in the first place because I heard Marguerite Bennett was going to do a tie-in, I’ve consistently found it a really on-point and poignant exploration of the characters and themes of the series. Not counting on it, but I’d love if this team reunited to do something dancing between the raindrops of future volumes the way this overlaps 4 and 5.
Decorum #1: Aw yeah baby, this is that good Hickman shit. And Mike Huddleston!
X-Men #8: Not THAT good Hickman shit, but still some pretty good Hickman shit. Isn’t it nice we’re getting that again? We deserve something nice and he’s giving it to us.
Avengers #32: Wish every single issue that the first arc had worked so people would have stayed onboard and seen how buck-wild fun Aaron was going to get here.
Thor #4: …so Thor did a genocide?
Venom #24: Disappointing as Thor has turned out, Venom is probably the closest Cates has come to recapturing the energy of his breakout with Thanos and manages to keep pulling me back in.
Punisher: Soviet #5: Extremely good as it was always inevitably going to be but I feel like I’m still waiting one issue from the end for the moment it all clicks and I go “oh, okay, THIS is why Ennis felt like going back to do another seemingly normal Punisher comic”.
Marvel Snapshots: Sub-Mariner: Alan Brennert, the guy with arguably the all-time best batting average for writing superhero comics, continues to be very good at doing that. After, according to Wikipedia, 20 years since his last comic story? When Andy Schmidt was announced for Generations (which…might not be happening now? Good lord) we all went “he wrote all of like 15 issues and the last one was 10 years ago, DC what are you thinking?!” but Brennert wrote less and it’s been even longer, and if HE had been the one announced I for one would be going “oh thank god DC finally knows exactly what it’s doing”. Brennert aside, Jerry Ordway has rarely been in better form, and it’s surprising and satisfying to see Zdarsky’s take on Namor as being driven in no small part by PTSD from his time in World War II take on so quickly in such a big way.
The Immortal Hulk #32:

You Won The Battle, You Won’t Win The War
Fandom: RWBY
Length: 3500 words.
Relationships: Blake Belladonna/Yang Xiao Long
It’s been absolutely forever since I wrote a fic, so please, have some canon-compliant Bumblebee.
Yang’s arm hurt.
She supposed that wasn’t surprising. The doctor had told her there would be phantom pains, her brain trying to feel a limb that wasn’t there. She’d nodded, only half-listening, the events of that night replaying in her head over and over. The dull ache of being disqualified. The fear that she couldn’t trust her own sanity anymore. Wondering if she would see things again, but next time... she’d envisioned her gauntlets firing into Weiss, or Ruby, or Bl—but her brain shut down screaming at the thought of hurting any of her teammates, and the dull ache came back.
Then it had happened. She’d seen it happen. Penny had faced off against Pyrrha, and... thinking about either of them hurt too much. The idea that they were gone, that she would never see them again, ached as badly as her arm. Penny had been Ruby’s friend more than hers, but for all the girl had been weird, she’d never been dangerous, and had always been sweet and friendly. To find out that she was a robot the whole time was less of a shock than the visceral sight of cables being sliced in half, the life fading from her eyes as lenses spiralled shut.
As for Pyrrha, Team JNPR had been as close to her as her own team. Her brain still refused to comprehend that Pyrrha – strong, confident, powerful Pyrrha – had been murdered, dying in a battle she could never win, facing that woman – Cinder – in single combat.
Of course, Yang hadn’t seen that happen. She’d run out, looking for Ruby, trying to protect as many people as possible when the Grimm came. She’d found Weiss, looking exhausted, who told her that Blake – even thinking about her made Yang’s remaining arm tremble – had gone after a Beowolf Alpha. Yang hadn’t hesitated to follow her partner’s trail, and that’s where it had happened.
She’d looked through the shattered window of the cafeteria and seen him. She saw him stab Blake – her Blake – through the stomach, seen the burning red glow on his mask, just like those eyes so long ago. She remembered the all-consuming rage and terror that had sent her flying at him, screaming. She remembered that glowing mask, a flash of red, then nothing.
When she’d awoke, her arm had hurt. She’d been sitting in a hospital bed, hearing shouting from outside her door. She’d recognized Weiss’s voice, and an older man. Then there had been nothing. She didn’t know where Ruby was, she didn’t know where Blake was, and she didn’t know what was going on. She saw Uncle Qrow enter and lay an unconscious Ruby in the bed next to her. She’d tried to ask him what was happening, but he’d already left.
The next person she’d seen was Sun, and he told her the worst news yet: Blake – her Blake, her partner, the girl she’d danced with at the ball, the girl she’d helped to pull from the shadows – had ran. Nobody had made her. Nobody had dragged her home unwillingly, like Weiss.
She’d left, and Yang was alone.
Now, she lay in bed at home, staring out the window. Ruby had left too, gone with the shattered remnants of Team JNPR to find answers for what happened that night. Everything was gone – her team, her school, her friends – and her.
Yang was alone.
~~~
Blake’s stomach hurt.
It was all her fault, all of it. Adam had come for her, and he’d destroyed everything. Just when Blake had thought she’d be able to be free of her past, it had come along in a maelstrom of black and red and ruined it all – and it was her fault, she knew it.
She remembered that night. Seeing Yang attack that boy, Mercury, seemingly unprovoked, had instantly reminded her of him – all the deaths, first accidents, then self-defence, then it was for the cause, and finally it was revenge. She saw the spiral beginning again – but Yang wasn’t Adam. She’d trust her. Something else was at play.
Then it had happened. She’d seen Pyrrha rip Penny apart, seen the horror on her face as she did it, and she knew – this was the White Fang at work. She’d cursed herself for getting complacent. Just because Torchwick was in jail didn’t mean the White Fang was gone. He’d never been a part of the group anyway, just one of Cinder’s lackeys. She saw the Grimm swarming to the school, and she’d known that it was time to act. She and Weiss had run to the courtyard, but there was too much going on at once – they’d had to split up. She’d chased after an Alpha Beowolf, and had seen the White Fang grunts attacking the students.
It had never dawned on her that he’d be there, until she found herself face to face with him.
It was her fault. If she’d done more, if she’d recognized what he was sooner, if she hadn’t been trying to distance herself from even thinking of him, maybe she could have stopped it.
They’d fought.
He’d stabbed her.
Yang – her Yang, her partner, the girl she’d danced with at the ball, the girl who had saved her from destroying herself – had tried to save her, and had lost her arm.
And it was all her fault.
She’d lain there, beside the unconscious Yang, the bandages around her stomach seeping with blood as she’d apologized over and over. Then she’d found out that Pyrrha was dead, too – and she knew, again, it was her fault.
When she could finally walk, she did the only thing she could think to do.
She ran.
They were better off without her. Adam had made it his mission to destroy everything she loved – so maybe if she stayed away, he would too.
Maybe it was just better for her to be alone.
Now, as she stood on the deck of the ferry, staring out over the endless ocean, she felt the regret tugging at her heart, but she shook it away. She’d brought them nothing but pain. She didn’t deserve to be with them. She didn’t deserve to be with her.
And now Blake was alone.
~~~
Yang sat on the bed, staring down at The Photograph – a picture of Team RWBY, back when they’d still thought they had a future – with dark thoughts running through her mind. Why would she want Blake there? She’d abandoned her. Why would she ever want to see her again? Ruby didn’t know what she was talking about.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on her door. She didn’t look up, quickly stowing The Photograph away. “Yeah?” The door creaked open, and she suppressed a sigh. Speak of the devil, and she will appear. “Look, Ruby, I really don't want to talk about it, OK? Can you just leave me alone for a bit?” But when she looked up, it wasn’t Ruby.
It was Weiss. Yang loved her like family, of course, but she was the last person she expected to come knocking on her door. “Oh. Hey, Weiss. Did you need something?” Weiss didn’t reply, instead just sitting on the bed opposite her.
Oh, god. She was going to try and feelings her. Yang wasn’t in the mood to talk about it with anyone, but something about Weiss’s presence just rubbed her the wrong way. Why was she here? Yang chose her words very carefully, and sighed. “I know she's our teammate, but I'm not just going to change my mind. I'm sorry, I just... I don't think you know what it's like to be left. You have a giant family, recitals to perform at, dinners to attend. I didn't have any of that. My mom left me. Ruby's mom left too. Tai was always busy with school and Ruby couldn't even talk yet. I had to pick up the pieces. I had to keep things together. Alone.”
Weiss didn’t speak. Yang felt the fire rising in her throat. This silent treatment was starting to really get on her nerves. “Weiss, if you have something to say, then say it.”
And finally, the heiress spoke. “When I was ten, my dad finally admitted to my mom that the only reason he married her was for the family name.”
Oh, god.
“It was actually on my birthday. He missed the big dinner, she got mad, he finally snapped. I think she already knew. Looking back, I think I knew too. But hearing him say it finally pushed her over the edge.”
Abort mission, Yang. ABORT.
“First it was separate lunches and dinners, opposite balconies at my recitals, a glass of wine here, a glass of wine there. Then, it was no dinners, no recitals, a bottle of wine here and... well, you get the idea.”
Yang wasn’t sure where she was going with this, but she instantly realized she had Weiss all wrong. “I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have assumed.”
Weiss just smiled softly. “You're right, though. I don't know loneliness like you do. I have my own version. And, I'll bet Blake has her own version too.”
Aaand there it was. Yang couldn’t stop herself from blurting it out. “She doesn't have to be alone, though. I was here for her. We all were! She chose to leave us.”
Weiss’s eyes were nothing but patience. “Why do you think she did that?”
Wuh?
“The entire time Blake was at Beacon, she was afraid to open up to people. She tried to keep her past separated from us. She tried to protect us. Eventually, those walls she put up came down. And the moment they did, the one thing she was afraid of actually happened. The universe proved her right.”
Yang didn’t want to hear anymore, but she knew, somewhere in her gut, that she couldn’t stop now – it was as if a hot spike shoved deep into her forehead was halfway out; if she stopped now, it would settle back in and continue to hurt her. “No one blamed her for anything! If she had just talked to us, she would've known that! How could I be there for her if she doesn't let me?”
Yang took a deep breath. She could feel tears forming in her eyes, and she knew she had no choice but to say it.
“What if I needed her here for me?”
She buried her face in her hands, her whole body shaking – until a delicate hand rested on her shoulder.
“I know it's not easy. I wish she hadn't left too. The only thing we can do now is be there for her when she's ready. When she comes back.”
When? That was awfully optimistic of her. Yang tried to contrast this Weiss with the stubborn, angry figure who’d butted heads with everyone at Beacon. What had happened to her up in Atlas? Doubt and fear clawed at Yang’s stomach, and she slowly lowered her hands. “If she comes back.”
“She will.” Weiss took a deep breath, as though preparing for something, working up the courage to speak, and Yang once more saw the image of her gauntlets tearing unknowingly-- but that wasn’t allowed. She forced the silent fear down, and listened.
“Yang... you, Ruby, and even Blake are more like family to me than my brother or even my own father. I would do anything for you three – and I'm willing to bet Blake feels the same way. So, when she's ready, I'll be there for her. And I know we're not as close, but... I'm here for you too.”
Yang let the words fill her, the spike of anger draining out of her. She felt empty, drained – in a good way. With the resentment she’d carried since the Fall draining out of her, maybe there would be room for better things now. The door creaked open again, and Ruby tentatively peeked her head in. “Is, uh... everything OK?”
Yang breathed. She wasn’t alone. She had people who cared about her, and she knew that she could never hurt them.
“Yeah, it is.”
~~~
It had happened again.
Blake cursed herself endlessly. Why had she let Sun follow her? Why had she led him straight to her home? Why had she let him face Ilia? Now he was hurt, and it was her fault. Always her fault.
Sun opened his eyes, groaning, the bandage on his shoulder soaked in blood. “Blake?”
Blake glared at him. She knew it wasn’t fair to him, she knew he was confused, but she couldn’t stop the words from forcing themselves out of her throat. “This is why, Sun. This is why I left them all behind.”
Sun sat up, still groggy. “What are you... wait, where am I?”
Blake ignored his confusion, as part of her screamed at the rest of her to stop talking, to at least let him get his bearings.
The rest of her did not oblige. “I am done seeing my friends hurt because of me.”
“Blake...”
“Shut up!”
She wasn’t going to let him interrupt, not now, her anger was running to hot, her hurt too close to the surface. “Do you think I like being alone? Every day... every day I think about them! Ruby, Weiss... Yang... they were my friends! I loved them like I never thought I could love anybody. And I hope they hate me for leaving.”
Sun reached out an entreating hand, apparently having regained enough lucidity to realize what was going on. “You don’t mean that.”
Blake rounded on him, furious. “Yes, I do!” He drew his hand back, wincing. Blake’s head ached with shame and guilt as she buried her face in her hands. “Everyone thinks they can help me, but they can't. You saw Ilia last night, and she's not even the worst! No. No more. They're better off without me. I made my choices, and I'll deal with the consequences, because they belong to me.”
Sun narrowed his eyes. Blake braced herself for him to leave, too. She told herself it was better that way. He would be safer without her. Any minute, he’d get up and leave, or tell her to leave, and he would be safe...
“You think you're being selfless, but you're not. Yeah, that chameleon friend of yours got me pretty good. But I'd do it all again if it meant protecting you.”
What?
“And I can promise Yang would say the same.”
What?
“You can make your own choices, sure. But you don't get to make ours. When your friends fight for you, it's because we want to. So stop pushing us out! It hurts more than anything the bad guys could ever do to us.”
Oh, god.
Was that what she’d done?
Had she been so desperate to protect them that she’d hurt the people she cared about most?
She stared down at her hands, and suddenly saw herself from the outside – alone and friendless, pushing away any who get close, hurting the people she cared about.
“Just like how you hurt Sun?”, she thought, remembering the moments leading up to the confrontation with Ilia, the way she’d hit him with so much venom and resentment.
Sun’s voice jolted her out of her reverie. “But, if it makes you feel any better, the next time I go up against Lizard Girl, it won't be for you - it'll be to get even.”
Blake realized she was smiling. He’d gotten hurt, true, but he was still standing beside her – still willing to fight. And if Sun was willing to go that far for a friend – how far would her partner be willing to go for her? Suddenly she felt like she could fly. What had she been thinking? She needed her friends just like they needed her. She let out a laugh, and turned to her friend.
“My hero.”
~~~
Yang was exhausted.
She didn’t know what had happened, but when she’d arrived at the vault, Cinder was gone, Vernal was dead – and Raven was there. They’d talked – nearly fought – and Raven had fled, leaving the Relic to Yang. Her heart ached from the truth of her mother – a coward, a liar, and a murderer. Now she had to return to the rest of the world and deal with the fallout. As she made her way down the steps, Uncle Qrow turned to her, his face a mask of concern.
Qrow. Her mother’s brother. She’d always trusted him growing up, only to learn that he worked directly for Ozpin – and Ozpin had lied to them. She wasn’t sure how she felt about Qrow now, and she was too exhausted to formulate it. He frowned. “What happened?”
Yang shook herself. “I don’t know, exactly. When I got down there, Cinder was gone, and Vernal was dead.”
“And Raven?”
Yang knew the question was coming, but it still shook her. She weighed her words carefully. Raven was the Spring Maiden. She had murdered the former Spring Maiden to gain that power. Raven was also a coward, a manipulator – and her mom. Should she keep her secret? Or should she tell Qrow everything? Just thinking about what had happened below gave her another wave of exhaustion, tears approaching her eyes. So she gave the shortest answer she could. It wasn’t technically a lie, just not the whole truth. Just like Qrow and Ozpin had given to her. If they weren’t going to spill their secrets, she wasn’t going to spill hers.
“Gone.”
Qrow’s expression softened, and he placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Well, we’re all glad you’re still here, firecracker.”
Apparently Ruby was even more exhausted than Yang, because she chose that moment to collapse, Weiss quickly catching her. “Are you OK?” Ruby smiled tiredly. “I feel like I should be asking you guys.”
Then, with all the tact and nuance of a Boarbatusk, Ruby addressed the Goliath in the room. “So, Blake, what are you doing here?”
Blake. Yang’s partner, the girl she’d danced with, the girl who had ran and left her alone – the girl she loved with all her heart – smiled nervously. “I was going to ask you three the same thing.”
Ruby cracked a grin. “That’s... a looooong story.”
And Blake, nervous, shy, hands shaking, spoke the five words that Yang had wanted to hear for a long time.
“Well, I’m not going anywhere...”
Ruby sighed happily. “That’s all that matters. That we’re all here together. Right?”
She looked to Yang, and Yang realized that Ruby was more tactful than she let on. In that moment, her exhaustion didn’t leave her, but she felt braced, sustained. She smiled up at Blake.
“Yeah.”
~~~
It was Blake’s worst nightmare, come to life. Adam had found her again, and this time, he was determined to destroy her. By all rights, she should have been terrified – but all she felt was fire.
Yang was beside her. At long last. As Adam raved, the two of them focused all of their attention on the rhythm of combat – at long last, Blake saw Adam for what he was: A boy who’d lost his way, and nothing more. But he would never let up, not as long as he lived. Blake and Yang both knew the anger he carried – resentment, bitter loneliness, spite – but it did not control them as it did him. They had each other, and they knew that Adam, for all his power, was truly alone. The words he spoke were poison, both to himself and those around him. As he charged for Blake’s broken weapon, Blake and Yang’s eyes locked, and they both knew.
It was quick. The two blades pierced him, tearing through his body and soaking them in his blood. For the first time, Adam was speechless.
“Oh.”
Then he fell. Blake should have been elated, should have been overjoyed – but now that he was gone, his words began to worm into her. Did Yang really think she was going to leave again? She’d tried so hard to make up for what she’d done, but Yang hadn’t seemed to want it, and she didn’t know what to do. So she fell to her knees, sobbing, the fear that had been held at bay crushing over her – and then Yang was there, kneeling across from her. Blake wrapped her arms around her, and spoke the words she knew she had to say – she couldn’t stop now, or she would never be healed.
“I... I’m not gonna break my promise. I swear!”
Yang held her, and let the last vestiges of her resentment wash away – the two of them were partners. They would be together through thick and thin, not as protector and protected, but as equals, protecting each other. She cupped Blake’s face, and was suddenly struck by that moment from that night, where Blake had chosen to trust Yang – chosen to have faith that she wouldn’t be like Adam. So now, Yang chose to trust Blake. She chose to have faith.
“I know you won’t.”
tezz, blake, agura, and mermista for that ask meme pls?
Fair warning a lot more of the questions have to deal with shipping than I thought when I first reblogged the ask meme this is for a /while/ ago, and I’m not really a big romance person (except one of these is in a HUGE ship of mine and I’m certain that was intentional ave.
got long, it was a long meme, and 4 characters
Tezz Volitov
What I like about them
well. that’s really hard to answer. to quote you, avery when I mentioned having trouble w this question, “I like him because he’s Tezz”
He’s everything that normally annoys me but done well to where it doesn’t?
cocky arrogant tech savvy bastard. but he has extremely strong sense of morals. Like boy took one look at the red sentients and was immediately ready to fight a war by himself and dedicated himself to being a one man rebellion.
What I dislike about them
how long it took me to answer the first question, he’s not my normal type, like for real I think his archetype normally annoys me, but for some reason the exact way he’s written gets around that.
Favourite moment
the entirety of the episode “Lord of the Kharamanos” Tezz making friends with tromp and once again showing his strong sense of morals with his absolute refusal to leave the kharamanos alone to fight the Vandals. I think this ties into why I love him so much, normally his archetype would have been the one willing to leave them to fend for themselves, helping them is a risk, but Tezz doesn’t even consider leaving, and is insulted by Vert considering it for even a moment.
Least favourite moment
The best quality version of his introductory episode on youtube is cut into 2 parts and the uploader split it /right/ in the middle of dialogue.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
BACK! STORY! what’s his family life like? what did he eat when he was stranded?
An interesting AU for this character
This is pretty general for bf5 as a show, but in the the bf5 fused webisode “Cold Fusion” Sage is shown making an instruction type video for if they lose, somebody else could potentially take up the fight, and she deletes it at the end as Vert tells her the war will end with them. But what if she hadn’t. And then. what if they had lost? Tezz wasn’t part of the team yet, if the bf5 lost before he joined, but someone else (Grace?) found the video and picked up the fight, and then he joined? I don’t have much thought (well actually I have more than I’d like to admit) put into this idea, but ever since seeing that 50 second webisode, I’ve had that hmm what if idea in my head, and the only way I can really “see” it happening is if there was a similar situation to the shadowzone episode, where our bf5 meet the group that took up the fight when they died, team led by grace, with tezz, zen, and the rest of the group is ocs, but if this were a plotline I’d love for one of the team to be one of Agura’s brothers who came looking for her when she dropped off the face of the planet.
A crossover
umm I was really into storm hawks at the same time as I was into bf5, tho bf5 has withstood the test of time, so combining the 2 is something I’ve put some thought into before, but really w bf5′s setup of being able to go to different dimensions battlezones writing a crossover for really any show wouldn’t be hard.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
I don’t have a lot of ships for bf5 as a whole, if I had to say one Tezz/Sherman, I love the interaction where someone asks if tezz is the brains of the operation and sherman says tezz is the left brain and he (sherman) is the right
Other ships?
Tezz/AJ I guess, in the finale when they sent the og team in bc “they started it, you should be the ones to end it” they had some cute interactions
BROTP
Tezz and Tromp, lord of the kharamanos gave us so much good tezz content.
NOTP
bf5 didn’t have a lot of romance, so there was never a set up that made me go NO but anyone with zoom is a full stop for me, there’s no canonical ages, but zoom reads as 16 to me, and most of the other cast as young adults, but adults.
An assortment of headcanons!
He’s Autistic!
Boy had a Bad Home Life, the boy was like 9 when he got himself stranded in a battlezone, and wanted to get back to earth because it’s where he’s from, but he /never/ mentions getting back to people. like it’s one thing if his parents just let him do whatever and he was experimenting in his free time, but he didn’t try to find anyone when he got back. and he immediately was ride or die for the bf5. the show probably just didn’t have time to touch on it, but with what we were given I can not see him having a good relationship with his family.
Blake (asuming Belladonna)
What I like about them
Listen I love revolutionaries. love me some characters fighting for a cause. Blake don’t back down.
What I dislike about them
how much Sun is tolerated lol
Favourite moment
When she stared her abusive ex in the eyes after he asked “what made her think she could win this time” and said “I don’t have a choice, I have people who actually care about me, and I promised I’d never leave them agian. So I’m not dying now!”
you tell him blake
Least favourite moment
90% of the scenes she shares w sun lol. why couldn’t we get more time with her parents? oh right sun took up any time they could have had lol.
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
fambly.
An interesting AU for this character
au where Adam never touched her.
A crossover
She-ra and the princesses of power, blake/yang and catra/adora, blonde jock and their cat gfs interacting
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
Uh Bumbleby without a doubt. they’re the slow burn we never get with queer couples, and while they’re not “canon” yet, that’s because they’re a slow burn, and they’re getting proper developement, but even so, them having feelings for each other is canon, to a point where Arryn Zech, Blake’s va got a motherfucking bee tattoo. like they’re /the/ main couple of rwby, Arryn mentioned Yang as someone who was in love with blake at a panel and had to be reminded to mention Sun. that’s cast tho, their interactions in show?
Yin/yang symbolism where they’re both both at different times, beauty and the beast allusions, character with abandonment issues/character who has a tendency to run, excellent fighting synergy? I could literally talk about how much this ship means to me for hours (you’ve heard a lot of it sporadically ave) and it truly means a lot to me, I’m not normally a romancey person, but something about a show I was into before knowing (or really admitting to myself) that I was queer giving me that rep? in 2 of my favorite characters? I’m used to seeing shows w queer rep bc I heard there was rep and decided to check it out, but Bumbleby seemingly happened around me already here. they’re not a queer bait. one of them isn’t going to die. and they love each other so much.
Other ships?
Listen. no other possible ship for blake (or yang) holds a candle (ha sweet burning the candle reference) to bumbleby. I’m not gonna go into it explicitly, bc the person who sent this ask isn’t there yet >:) but (as much as irl, friendship is just as important as romantic relationships, and I hate the idea of romance being “more”) the show has built up yang and blake in such a way that if anyone else wanted to be even considered they’d have to compete with the other. if you’re considering getting into rwby, Heroes and Monsters was the ep that a lot of the fan base realized that hey, they’re actually doing bees? and that’s bc there’s a scene that is so powerful with the 2 of them. from a storytelling perspective no other ship has the substance to compete with the bees.
BROTP
Blacksun. Blake and Sun work better as friends than they ever could as romantic partners, Sun has feelings for Blake, but they’ve always been one sided, and the only time he’s been on screen that didn’t have me rolling my eyes or wishing he’d leave blake alone so her parents who she hasn’t seen in years could maybe get some of the screentime he’s hogging was when he was recovering from being injured and blake is all “this is why I had to leave, my friends get hurt bc of me” and he was like “that’s our decision to make, I’d do it again, and I know Yang would do the same” like yeah he continues to flirt while in menagerie (sp?), but as soon as he realizes that she didn’t run off to fight the white fang alone he spends his time trying to get her to go back to her team.
NOTP
Tauradonna. I’ve also seen the “ship” called Animal Abuse and ouch if that doesn’t just hit the nail on it’s head.
An assortment of headcanons!
when blake and yang kiss for the first time her ears are going to twitch.
Bi
Agura Ibaden
What I like about them
listen the second thing she does in the show is tear a robots head off do I need to give more words than that?
What I dislike about them
I mean one of my only complaints w bf5 is I want more girls, does that count? I wanted to know more about her backstory in general too, like 5 brothers? at least one nephew? warrior princess? give me
Favourite moment
The first time Vert isn’t there and Stanford challenges her right to be second in command and she just shuts him down hard and takes charge.
Least favourite moment
uhhhhh. idk whatever made agura/stanford a bigish ship in the fandom
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
Listen. The toy line, which technically yeah sure not technically canon, but the toyline. calls her a warrior princess. was this just to sell toys? yeah probably. am I still intrigued. most definitely. Is Agura a motherfucking princess!!??
An interesting AU for this character
I can’t use the au I used for tezz, cause she’d be dead in that one. hmm. I just had a galaxy brain idea but what if everyone on the team got weapons with their vehicles and not just vert.
Give Agura a big sword.
OH SHIT I forgot about an idea I’ve had in the past but I don’t want to erase the give sword idea, one of those swapped aus shows have, agura and tezz are swapped tezz is on the team since the begining, is a little better w people, not by much he’s still but he didn’t spend his childhood alone fighting robots and sentients, and Agura got stuck on Vandal and becomes warlord within a year. Basically, trapped on alien planet--> I run this now. by time bf5 meet the vandals they’re allies not conquerors.
A crossover
yeah really just read what I wrote for tezz’s, the only way agura’s would change is if she’s a warrior princess like xena that could be fun, but cars and bf5′s whole thing would be super out of place.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
don’t really have any, Agura/Grace if I have to
Other ships?
Agura/Sage
BROTP
Agura and the Cortez brothers!
NOTP
any straight ship with her is lame
An assortment of headcanons!
I know I’m not over the toyline but like. what if she was just a princess the entire fucking time. and was just way chill about it. imagine the shutdown
Stanford: ~I’m 189th in line for the throne~
Agura: cool I’m 2nd, but if it becomes relevant before my nephew is an adult I’ll be acting monarch until he’s old enough for the responsibility.
Stanford.exe has stopped responding
Mermista
What I like about them
I like swimming, she’s a mermaid
What I dislike about them
she’s vaguely got rude older sister in a sit com where the younger brother is the main character written by people who don’t have siblings, but like not really?
Favourite moment
“mermista will swim through the sewer system” “I’m sorry mermista will what?” but she still does it.
Least favourite moment
hhmmm not sure, she was in 5 episodes and I liked her, I guess early on when I saw her and sea hawk interact before I knew what their relationship was like and I thought she genuinely didn’t like him her intro scene was kinda :/
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
well I’m expecting a princess with fire powers eventually (I haven’t seen original she-ra so I don’t know if that’s an accurate assumption) and fire/ water powers are always cool to see interacting.
An interesting AU for this character
maybe I’ve been reading too much of that she-ra dnd blog but she’s an eldritch knight with the control water cantrip and that’s gud
A crossover
it’d be neat to see her and Lapis Lazuli interact
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
Mermista/Sea Hawk. It’s a twist on what we normally see where the guy in a het relationship is emotionally distant and the girl does all the emotional labor, but even then mermista obviously cares about sea hawk a lot, she is just not comfortable expressing affection, and he respects her boundaries and absolutely adores her.
Other ships?
did you see how she looked at adora after she transformed into she-ra? I don’t actually ship them but every princess is gay for she-ra
BROTP
With what we have so far I’d like to say frosta, just cause water/ice powers.
NOTP
I don’t think I’ve seen anything with her that I had a negative reaction too   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I mean I guess frosta, we don’t have confirmed ages for any of them except for forsta who is decidedly way younger than the other princesses.
An assortment of headcanons!
the girl is bi
she had the mermaid tail before the people legs, and the tail is the default setting
hey maple! I was wondering, do you have any book/fic/story recommendations? ❤️
Hoo boy, I can certainly offer some! I’m more well-versed in fanfics than actual books but I think I’ve stumbled across my fair share of good fics over the years.
Also I’ll warn you this’ll be long.
Cycle by RoseGarden
Hot. Damn.
If you’re a Fire Emblem Awakening fan there is not a fic I can recommend to you more than this one. Cycle is easily in my top 5, no top 3, heck my absolute favourite story ever. The updates are slow - I started following it in 2016 summer at Ch 44, and the latest chapter was (at posting) 55 in 2018 winter - but this is not a complaint. This delay is understandably so because these chapters fucking deliver. Each chapter averages about 10,000-25,000 words (by my rough estimate - chapters tend to include a lot of reviewer replies from the author). This is honestly my current inspiration, and has been since I found it. I dream of writing like this one day. I cannot express how much I love this goddamn story.
Okay enough fangirling, time to buckle down to the content. From the beginning, it seems like your average but well-written insert - Robin is an FE fan and baker from the real world who wakes up to find Blue-Haired McGee and his motley crew with no idea how she ended up in the field in Ylisse. But you find out pretty quick that things aren’t quite what they seem. Mysterious unfamiliar characters are popping up, some people know more about events than they’re letting on, and Robin’s gotta figure out all this shit while dealing with her own missing memory and the responsibilities that come with playing tactician for a nation going to war.
It’s amazing. It follows along Awakening’s plot, but honestly I’m on edge the entire time, I don’t know what’s going to happen next. The worldbuilding is hefty and incredible and really brings the world to life. The character interactions are gorgeous. The characters themselves are gold. One of my favourite things is that each character has a clear and defined voice - even if there’s no narration to say who’s speaking, you can work it out by their words and tone. The character interactions are charming and even if the ships aren’t your favourite or usual cup of tea, they’re all so genuine and they work. Robin is different from what I think is the general depiction of canon Robin in fics, she’s pretty crass and blunt and the Earth culture she and the readers know shows, but she certainly stands out as her own personality and still fits in well with the Shepards. She’s also got her own issues and problems and she makes mistakes so that’s fun.
Oh, that reminds me, also be prepared for a heck ton of feels. Laughter and heartbreak in equal helpings. Always a good time.
Queen of Hearts by Circuit
One of the first, and one of my favourite, Persona 5 fanfics that I’ve come across so far. Queen of Hearts retells Persona 5 but with Makoto Niijima playing the role of Wild Card. The change in protagonist brings a few new interesting changes, the big one being the Confidants Makoto hangs out with, including people such as Shiho and original characters in the Student Council. It’s cool to see the changes caused by a Makoto-led Phantom Thieves and also the struggles she herself has with being in that position of leader.
This feels small in comparison to the wall of text for Cycle, so I’m just gonna throw in another P5 fanfic, Crimson. This one’s closer to a retelling of P5′s canon than Queen of Hearts but tackles it with a lot more realism of kids messing with the law and the big bads of P5 and includes quite a bit of Questionable And Morally Ambiguous Choices:tm:. It’s one I’m honestly losing a little interest in, hence why it’s only got this small section here, but it’s still a good fic. I remember liking the beginning and certain scenes that are thrown around here and there, but this fic starts off pretty depressing and gets even more morally ambiguous in more recent chapters. Still a good read. Queen of Hearts is just a lot lighter in comparison and that’s why I recommend it a little more.
Worm by Wildbow
Okay this one’s a little different but hear me out. Technically a web serial, Worm is an original story written on Wordpress. I found it when I read a crossover between it and Okami (also a good fanfic in and of itself, has a pretty different tone from Worm but it’s very entertaining. I’d recommend reading Worm first though since I read the crossover first and, it’s fine to read through itself, but I understood some of the details and nods only after reading Worm). Honestly, I’m still not done with Worm. There’s a lot of story to get through. But what I’ve seen so far is pretty interesting.
The story follows Taylor, a teenaged girl with superpowers, called parahumans in this universe. It starts off pretty dark, though, and honestly it stays that way. Taylor’s bullied at school and feels pretty shitty, but she wants to be a hero. So one night she tries her hand at some vigilantism. Result? Nearly gets killed by a superpowered gang leader, gets saved by a small group of supervillains her age, they think she’s actually a supervillain too. They offer Taylor to join them and she figures it’s a way to go undercover, but over time she faces an internal dilemna since she finds herself actually enjoying their company.
There’s more to the story beyond that. Like I said, I’m not actually done reading it. There’s like 30 arcs, with each arc having about 8-10 chapters, each chapter about 5000 words?? and I’ve only read up to Arc 11. It’s an interesting take on a superpowered world, though, where villains aren’t so evil, good guys aren’t so good, and there’s a whole lot of morality and gritty details that come with it.
Through Her Eyes by Peroth
A RWBY fic that actually has a remastered version currently being written. The story’s about a Ruby that actually has a different semblance than the one we’re used to. This Ruby has the power to summon Grimm - and that’s it. She can’t control them whatsoever. This leads to Ruby being stuck at home for most of her childhood and gives us quite a different personality than canon Ruby - she’s a lot more shy and nervous around people and usually speaks with a stammer. Still the badass little scythe-wielding Grimm slayer we love though. Ruby’s also got eyes pretty similar to Salem’s, which also come with a fear factor, inciting primal fear in anyone who looks at her eyes, which means she has to wear big goggles.
So there’s a lot of changes, but it still mostly follows Volume 1. Ruby goes to Beacon because she still wants to help people -  with some focus on the catchup work Ruby has to do as a result of her missing school as a kid - teams up with WBY, makes friends with JNPR, usual kind of stuff. The original fic ends where Volume 1 ends, but I can’t say what changes the remastered version will bring. It seems to mostly be following the original with a few details changed or added, though.
The Shrouded Throne by Iburtide
Okay yes it’s another FE Awakening fic, sue me I’ve been through a massive FE faze. Chrobin is near and dear to my heart. Iburtide has actually written more Chrobin fics, both male and female, but I admit I’ve only read this one, The Heart of the Moon which is also a good one, and Crown of Shadows which is almost the same as Shrouded Throne but told with Male Robin (and also explicit so u18′s don’t look at it you hear me).
So Shrouded Throne (and Crown of Shadows) tells the story of a Robin who fled from a Plegian civil war to request aid from Ylisse. By the time the story starts, they’re in the employment of the Shepards, and after some words shared during a battle, Chrom offers to get Robin an audience with Emmeryn, which pretty much kicks off the story. Kinda follows Awakening’s plot but Robin knows they’re from Plegia and the civil war is between Gangrel and Validar.
I guess I’ll talk briefly about Heart of the Moon too since I mentioned it already. The Shepards get sent out to a village where a monster is stalking the woods. When they meet the creature, Chrom gets challenged to a hunt, one-on-one, with the beast. In the middle of this, Chrom comes across an old abandoned castle - or not quite so abandoned, as a young woman lives there, one who claims to be prisoner to the beast.
Both fics include fun new things like Henry being Robin’s little brother - not by blood but their relationship is cute and precious and gives me new life - and a normal Grimleal religion practiced by normal people and Validar just takes it to an extreme.
Those are a handful of ones I can recommend. I read a lot of fics though so I have skipped over some of the ones I wouldn’t say are my favourites but are still quite high on my list. These are all also multi-chaptered fics, a few of them being unfinished as well. There are more fics I wanted to talk about but they’re either one-shots or don’t have enough chapters for me to definitively recommend them. I dunno, if people want more recommendations or recs from specific fandoms like DR (which surprisingly I haven’t touched upon at all, wow it’s been a while since I’ve read a dr fic), I could do another post or something. One covering a lot of one-shots or short stories, but not speaking in as much detail as I have here oops somebody gets distracted and goes on tangents
OH AND BOOKS. Quick book recs are Percy Jackson and How to Train Your Dragon. I’ll be honest, I don’t read a lot of books these days. And I think these are popular enough that they don’t really need a big ol’ explanation from me.
http://dudeblade.tumblr.com/post/166151533694/some-of-my-personal-thoughts
Kudos to anyone who can hype themselves up for volume 5, because after how much of a letdown volume 4 was for me, I don’t want to risk myself getting disappointed. It made me get angry at a… certain part in volume 4, and overhyping myself probably isn’t going to be good for my health.
I don’t buy this for a fucking second: All you’ve done is lie and ignore facts just so you can claim to be disappointed and shove your agenda down people’s throats. You want to be disappointed so you can berate the show and as you have shown, you’ll do anything to keep up that narrative.
In all honesty, you should just go to one of the other toxic fandoms like Voltron or Steven Universe: At least the people there know not to take your ass seriously.
Look, these guys have made a name for themselves. As much as people would like to think that Roosterteeth is this massive company, they’re still just an indie company with a (relatively) small amount of people, and not a whole lot of effort going to the right places.
And yet you set up standards that not even big budget shows with large groups of people and massive companies backing them could live up to and when someone calls you out, you throw a hissy fit. Remember when I pointed out that RWBY was doing just as well as shows like Korra and such despite the numerous disadvantages the show has? You threw a hissy fit and lied throughout the whole thing. And yet you think I’ll take this seriously? The way I see it: you’re starting to get it through your fucking skull that your voice is not only a part of a vocal minority that is growing more despised everyday but said voice is being exposed in their bullshit and their credibility is tanking.
Boo fucking hoo.
Red vs. Blue was their first project. They told so much with so little. They didn’t have famous voice actors or fancy fight animations, they just did it in a Halo engine. I explain this because, if it hadn’t been for this, they would never be as big as it is now.
You talk as though RT only got famous off the work of another. Red Vs. Blue succeeded because it was funny and endearing and is still followed and loved to this day due to years of fantastic comedic timing and writing. And if I may point out: The only redeeming factor about RWBY was it’s action scenes in the first Volume. It only survived because of the action scenes which gave them enough time to develop and grow.
Nobody wants to see the same repetitiveness that is coming out of their (relatively) new flagship show. It’s starting to get a bit repetitive. Establishing character moments for characters that have already been established, introducing characters when we already have enough characters who don’t have enough development. How long until even the most dedicated fan gets tired of the same old “Just wait! You’ll get your LGBT+ Representation. Trust us!” and joins the overly critical part of the rwde tag (Which is basically just the crtq tag to be honest (HEY-YO!))?
Never happened. Characters were never reintroduced that way. Seriously, name one instance.
While I might agree with that: The RWDE tag has proven time and time again they don’t know what the concept of a “one off” character is. Characters like CFVY, NDGO, SSN and so on have been cited as characters without development when they were never meant to be developed at all.
And what do you say about fans who have stuck this long? Weiss rose? hawkeyedflame? They are all examples of long term fans that go against you rnarrative. What does that say when the few who do leave do so for petty reasons like the setting changed, the show got darker or that a character died?
Gee, I don’t remember the last time anyone using the crtq tag sucide baited someone. Or lied, Or misinformed. Or attacked the creators. Or attacked someone for having a different opinion. Or showing a lack of human decency. guess you couldn’t stand there being a better version of you out there huh?
How much longer can this keep happening? It’s starting to feel as if they don’t want to plan ahead. The recent Yang Trailer fiasco being enough proof. They could have had done all the trailers a month ahead of time so that we could have time to let it sink in, and talk about it and stuff. But instead, we’re jumping right into it, then getting the official Volume 5 trailer right after. This scheduling thing is starting to become a bit of an issue here. They seem to write things without thinking ahead of how this would play out.
What fiasco? The trailer isn’t even out yet and mind you, the ORIGINAL trailers were spaced the same way. SO if you had no problems then, you should have no problems now.
And considering the RWDE tag talks about shit like the “asset stealing” and Shane’s Letter like their hotcakes: you don’t care about that kind of discussion. And considering it takes the average trailer a day to be dissected and reviewed by everyone: Its life span isn’t as long as you claim it to be.
“Hey! How should we write this scene here?”
“The one where Blake is about to open up to her parents?”
“Yeah, actually, we didn’t have the time yesterday to write what she was going to say, can we have Sun interrupt her instead?”
“Sure, I guess. What should it be for? Important information? The White Fang are there, maybe he saw something-”
“No. Just have him use some excuse because he’s eavesdropping. We have this hilarious joke planned out where Blake’s sister-”
“Mother.”
“-Whatever, does the exact same thing. It’ll be funny!”
“Wait, you had the time to plan that, but not the time to figure out what Blake is going to say to her father? Why not ask Arryn? She knows Blake inside and out. Maybe she has some suggestions.”
“What? And have her cut into my-”
“Our.”
“MY writing pay? HA! No thank you!”
“Alright man. You’re the head writer.”
“Yeah. Yeah I am.”
One Week Later…
“Okay, so how about we have Sun try to explain that he had valuable information about the White Fang-”
*THUNK!*
“Why do you have your head on your desk right now?”
Except if you look at what Blake said in EPisode 11, you’d know from the context of both conversations that what Blake said to Sun about leaving her team because she didn’t want to hurt them (You know, the question ghira asked) I her answer. And if ypu paid any attention to anything that isn’t a white male for you to screech at, you'd notice that Ghira and Kali have the EXACT same relationship as Blake and Sun does: Ghira being the serious, driven but socialy awkward one and Kali being the easy going, joking, social adapted one. Thus that joke is to show their paralells. If you were as critical as you say, you’d notice it. I did the very instant it happened, why can’t you?
I hope you liked my sketch of how I personally think that whole discussion went down. I had fun writing it.
And I had fun using it to show you have nno critical skills whatsoever. Keep going, you’re just proving me right. I would have also said: “Probably the same way a political party slanders it’s opponent like a group of immature children.”
And speaking of fun, I think that the writers aren’t having any of it. I think they need some new blood in the writing room, and maybe get some women into their female-centered show or maybe some people who aren’t white to help better portray their entire fictional race that acts as a stand-in for ALL RACIAL MINORITIES. - I’m still bitter about that if you couldn’t tell.Â
Does that mean that Steven universe should kick off Rebecca Suagr because Steven is a male?
Or that their shouldn’t be a single male writer for MLP?
Or that characters like Tex and Carolina should have never been made because RvB is male centered?
Or that Monty, a man, shouldn’t have made a female centered show at all?
See, when you automatically assume that only women can write women and vice versa, not only do you limit what a creator do as well as spit on RWBY’s message of freedom of expression but it also implies you think that women and men are entirely different and that they can’t share any personality traits or experiences or anything the other gender. Which is basically the definition of sexism: Same thing goes with the race thing. And funniest thing is: Both women and racial minorities disagree with you so you exposed yourself as a racist and a sexist for nothing.
How much longer can the fanbase be baited for the representation that they outright promised several times? I mean, have you seen the notes section of this post for their Q&A? There’s a split between the people who are (rightfully) pointing out that they said this last time, and still haven’t delivered, and others who are basically saying “They said ‘yes.’ Now shut up!” How much longer can they keep this up? How much longer until even their most die-hard fans start to question them on their ability to write a character in the LGBT+ community? At this rate, I don’t think it can last for very long.
So the side that ahs attacked them numerous times while demanding they make a Mary Sue while demanding it e clevery written is better than the side that respects the creators wishes and treats the as human beings? Because considering you have used LGBT people despite not being LGBT: You shouldn’t be one to talk.
And there you go again, putting yourself. You do seriously think that every LGBT person who watches RWBY watches it for an LGBT character and not the animaton, the music, the characters and their personalities, the plot or the world? Because if you do (and considering your history, you do): You think every LGBT person thinks the same way, acts the same way and wants the same thing. That’s homophobia you idiot. Congrats on seeing nothing but their sexuality and disrespecting their individuality.
Look, these guys seriously need to either get their act together, or someone needs to create some competition major for them. It’s getting obvious that they can be lazy with how they’re scheduling things because there’s no other American-Made Anime around to compete with them. If someone can create a show that can compete with RWBY for a Streamy, then they would be forced to improve and take harder criticisms.
Except that even in Japan, RWBY is booming even with conpetitors like My hero Academia, a Shounen anime written by a guy taught by the writer of One Piece, and Dragon ball Super, the successor to the anime that BIRTHED SHounen as we know it. It has been acknowledged by the creator of Blazblue of all people And that’s all with an admitted shotty translation. So what’s your excuse for that?
And by harsher criticism, you mean your personal opinions you want to force on the CRWBY. Because not once have you made a critique that wasn’t riddled with misinformation, edited parts and even outright lying all while even admitting you have a personal bias. You don’t care about RWBY: You just want to control.
It’ll be a win for everyone. Rwde will finally tone it down a notch because their voices are being heard and taken into bigger consideration, anti-rwde will calm down due to initial rwde’s calmness, fans will see improvement, and the actual show will improve. The show has to improve. Because if all it’s going to do is introduce new characters to avoid giving development to ones that need it (Sage and Scarlet), then those characters may as well just be killed off… I hope to every single God that I didn’t just give them an idea.
Except RWDE doesn’t deserve to have their voices heard. You’ve all done irredeemable shit to the point I salivate at the thought of the LGBT character being introduced so I can indulge in my sadism.  You’ve all shown a disturbing lack of human decency and respect to the point you think it okay to suicide bait people and use the dead for your own purposes. You lost the right to have your voices heard a long time ago: to the point you’re finally understanding youll never be heard so you pull this bullshit to manipulate people into hearing.
Well, let me say: You could start apologizing right now and continue until the end of Volume 9 and you wouldn’t be forgiven so nice fucking try.
