“FOLLOW UP MEETING!”
You sat there unaware of the events happening backstage. Meeting your fans was truly a blissful experience if there were more women in your crowd. You tried not to tense up anytime a man went to grab your hand or hand you a present. The only fansign you had previous to this was with your group, and safe to say, the fanbase was primarily women. This was a whole different field for you, your brain kept telling you not to be rude and just try your best to look happy with the compliments you were getting. All their eyes on you stressed you out. Around the end of the fansign your face hurt from trying to keep up your composure.
When you finally got backstage after waving to everyone you took a deep breath. You hated this. You hated the gross comments and perverted smiles the male fans gave you. You were thankful for the other people in the crowd who treated you like a human being, but it wasn’t a lot.
“Y/n!” You looked up and saw Bahiyyih running towards you. Soul not near her.
“What’s going on?” Your jaw slacked as she dragged you to another part of the building. Your confused eyes bouncing around the different area’s corridors. You swore you locked eyes with someone familiar.
Bahiyyih sat you down and started ranting and raving about Soul doing something. You just sat there, eyes welding up with tears. You finally got your solo career and yet, why does it feel this bad. Did your hard work really mean nothing? All your trials and tribulations led up to just being outright disrespected by people who were supposed to be your-
“Soul literally-“
“I am not Soul!” The voice said, your eyes looked up and locked with a very tall guy, his roots blond and the tips almost a black. You recognized him. He was from Enhypen, which meant-
“Y/n are you alright?” The guy knelt in front of you, Bahiyyih went to push him away from you but stopped when a couple tears fell from your eyes.
You blinked them back and looked down at your hand which was now automatically wiping your face, “I’m sorry I don’t know what’s wrong with me…”
Just then two more bodies came into the room…
Soul and Jake…
“Y/n!” Soul rushed over to you. Jake not far behind him.
“Did someone say something to you?” Bahiyyih asked, sitting down next to you. Riki pulled Jake and Soul to the side, telling them to give you space.
You swallowed hard and looked down, “I-“
Before you could speak your manager ran into the room, “what happened?”
“I was disrespected the whole time…” You blinked as if you couldn’t believe what the past tortious two hours involved, “there were barely any respectful male fans and I just had to sit there…” Your manager nodded, listening and kneeling in front of you. He held your hand and tried to calm you down.
“I will talk to people about this alright? We will figure it out…”
You stared down at your hands, your manager got up and said something to your friends and part of-
“Wait.” You looked up and really looked at Jake and Riki, “what are you two doing here?”
Your manager looked at you, “you know them?”
Soul chuckled lightly and Bahiyyih glared at him.
“You can say that, yeah. I’ve known that one a little longer than anyone here.” Your hand rose lightly to point at Jake in the softest way possible. You were always taught that pointing was rude. Jake looked at you silently, the only thing showing emotion was the fact he was blinking rapidly. Maybe you were just emotional at the moment, but it was comforting in a sense that he still had that habit. Your manager nodded before rushing out. Presumably to get a car ready for you to leave.
“What are you guys doing here?” You asked and took a tissue from Bahiyyih.
“Soul invited us!” Riki said and put his arm around your friend. Soul only glared at him in an accusatory manner.
Jake was still looking at you, it was like he had something to say but didn’t know how to word it. For both of you, a million things could be said. But before either of you could say anything, you were swept away by staff as Jake just sat there looking at you.
___
Right when you got back to the BeLift building, immediately you were called into a meeting. This scared you immensely. You just got this job, then had a mental breakdown after a fanmeet, everything about this was a recipe for disaster. You sat in the chair, waiting for your boss to talk to you. Your manager sat next to you and tried to keep calm as well. If you were out of a job, he was out of someone to manage. The room was tense, almost like they were cutting off the oxygen supply slowly and steadily.
When your boss sat down in front of you, he had a smile.
“It’s nice to see you again..!”
You forced a smile back, “very nice to see you too!”
He nodded and set down a folder in front of him, “I am going to cut right to the chase, if that is okay with you? I am busy and so are you.”
“Are you firing me?” You cringed at the thought, your manager tensing up too.
Your boss let out a small laugh, “nonono!” He sat up and looked at you, “I have a deal for you.” He stood up now and pulled up his laptop on the medium sized TV on the other side of the room.
“You see, we could kill two birds with one stone here! You have male fans that make you uncomfortable, no?”
You blinked slowly, “I-I do…”
“And our company has an issue with fans in general!” He pulled up a slide that showed various graphs and photos of tweets, trucks, statements, and more that you didn’t really have time to comprehend, “our idea is simple, you show that you have a public relationship with another idol in this section of the company and 1. Your male fans should lay off you, 2. The fans in general should start to lay off the fact their idols talk to other people.”
Your manager sat up, “so you want Y/n to fake date a random guy she doesn’t even know? You are putting her in a position where she is forced to be around a man she isn’t close with even when she had to sit through-“
“Ah no! You see, when you told us Y/n had friends to talk to after the fanmeet we found the perfect other candidate!” Your boss walked through the door and opened it, practically ushering someone in. You felt your heart stop when you saw it was Jake.
You had to fake date your ex-boyfriend.
“Jake?” You looked at him, he looked at you, almost frozen in place. You assumed they had already told him in a separate meeting. He was stiff when your boss sat him down next to you.
“The plan is, for you guys to go on little dates for a few months, we will let disbatch collect photos well as, sneaking them an insider tip to let them reveal your relationship by New Years.”
Your manager didn’t look too happy, “it’s September. You want them to fake date well into next year? This is immensely messed up, not just for them but also to their fans. This could be a disaster.”
“And if it isn’t a disaster, our boy groups won’t have to worry about not conversing with someone the opposite sex, and Y/n won’t have to deal with as many creepy male fans.” Your boss seemed sure of himself.
“I’ll do it.”
You looked over to Jake who had seemingly relaxed, his eyes focused on the PowerPoint, which now displayed photos of the protest trucks, and now things that were said about you from after the fanmeet. You didn’t want to read them, so you looked down.
“Y/n?” Your boss called up to you, you looked up and saw he was ushering a pen and paper, another contract. You read it over carefully, making sure it was everything he just went over. At the bottom of the page, you saw Jake had already signed it. When you looked over to him, he was looking at you, almost like the same way he did back when you were 16.
You grabbed the pen and signed it. If this is what protected you, and hopefully other people, then you might as well. How bad could this really be?

DIABOLIK LOVERS Para-Selene Vol.1 Sakamaki Ayato Animate Tokuten CD
Tumblr media
Original title: DIABOLIK LOVERS Para-Selene Vol. 1 逆巻アヤト アニメイト 各巻購入特典ドラ
Source: Diabolik Lovers Para-Selene Vol. 1 Animate Tokuten CD
Audio: Here
Seiyuu: Midorikawa Hikaru
Translator’s note: Ayato at the zoo is actually such a fun concept, I wish this CD was longer and it featured more animals, haha. That being said, I’m not surprised he was interested in the lions the most. I was kind of hoping he would compare them to Shuu when he was talking about how all they do during the day is sleep, but unfortunately they rarely ever mention the other brothers in these solo character CDs. :p Ayato’s CDs are never mind-blowing in terms of plot/content, but these are supposed to be short and sweet and I think it accomplished that.
“...Oh! It’s over here, look! There’s actually ‘zoo’written over here!”
You correct him.
“...Aah? You pronounce it as ‘zuu’ (1) ? Who cares! I still know what it means in the end. Hehe...I’m looking forward to the Night Safari!”
You ask him why he offered to come here all of a sudden.
“What do you mean, it’s coming out of nowhere? I took you here ‘cause you mentioned wantin’ to go before. You should be grateful!”
You ask him why you didn’t come during the regular opening hours.
“Aah...? It’d be borin’ to come during the day. All of the people would only get on my nerves and most of the animals are snoozin’ anyway. Let’s just get inside already. I don’t want to have to deal with any security guards.”
You try to stop him.
“Don’t tell me not to! We can get inside by climbing over this gate so what’s the problem? ...God, what a pain. ...Heave-hoh.”
He lifts you into his arms.
*Thud*
“Behave.”
Ayato leaps over the entrance gate.
*TIMESKIP*
“I can hear their cries, so I bet the animals are awake right now. I’ve got my hopes up high. ...Oi, Chichinashi, let’s go look at the lions! The lions.”
You try to urge him to go back.
“Haah...? You really think I’m gonna go home without lookin’ at anythin’ after comin’ this far?”
*Roaaaar*
“Oh...! If you speak of the devil...That roar just now was a lion, don’t you think?”
You ask Ayato if he likes lions.
“I wouldn’t go as far as to say I ‘like’ them, but they’re called the Kings of jungle, aren’t they? They seem pretty tough, which is cool, don’t you agree?”
Ayato approaches the lions cage.
*Roaaaar*
“...Oh! That sounded pretty close just now, right? Which meansーー I’m sure we’re right by the lions’ enclosure! Let’s go, Chichinashi!”
He grabs hold of your hand and drags you away.
*Roaaaar*
“Oh! There they are! They actually walk around, huh? In the only memories I have of them, they were just laying around lazily on the ground.”
You agree.
“You’ve only seen sleeping lions as well, huh? ー Guess that makes sense. I mean, the ones at the zoo usually nap durin’ the day, don’t they? These animals got some nerve to have us pay money to come see them and then all they do is snooze ‘round. ...Comin’ at night was the right choice after all! It’s free on top of that!”
You tell him coming during the day works fine as well.
“That’s not true. We wouldn’t have been able to see the lions in action if we came at daytime. ーー Don’t tell me you’re still worried ‘bout the fact that we snuck in? All we need to do is not get caught. Stop worryin’ ‘bout it forever.”
*Roaaaar*
“...Oi. Did you hear that just now, Chichinashi? Seems like there’s still other lions nearby as well.”
A lion steps out in front.
“Heeh...It came from the back. ...Hm? Am I imaginin’ things or has this one been starin’ at you the whole time?”
You frown.
“It might...think of you as prey?”
Your eyes widen in surprise.
“I mean, lions eat flesh, don’t they? In that case, it’s not completely unthinkable. Still...This one sure has some nerve to set his eyes on what belongs to Yours Truly! Guess I’ve just gotta show him.”
He pins you against the bars of the cage.
*Clatter*
“I’m sure the lion will get the message if I latch onto you right here, right now, no?”
You protest.
*Rustle rustle*
“Oi, don’t make a fuss! ...Or would you rather have one of them bite you? You love pain after all. In that case, I don’t mind puttin’ you inside the cage.”
  You shake your head.
“If you don’t want that, you know what to do, don’t you? ーー Tell me that you prefer my fangs. ...What’s the matter? Better hurry up, or you’ll end up as lion food!”
You tell Ayato that you prefer him.
“Hehe...See? That wasn’t that hard, was it? Fine. Here’s your reward. I’ll give you a taste of my fangs.”
*ROAAAAR*
“...Aah? The security guard will notice us?”
You can hear approaching footsteps.
“Keh...Someone’s actually on their way here. ...Che, what a pain. Chichinashi, let’s hide!”
The two of you run off.
*Creaaaaak*
*Thud*
“...Heh. You dodged the bullet just now, Chichinashi. But I’m not satisfied yet. Better brace yourself for later! ...We went inside some random place for now but where the fuck are we?”
You ponder out loud.
“Haah? ...A pasture? I mean, it’s true that there don’t seem to be any cages here. ...Anyway, that’s not the issue right now. We gotta hide somewhere! ...Over there! Come!”
He drags you along.
*Rustle*
“This tree is huge, it’ll work perfectly. Scoot a lil’ closer. Otherwise they’ll spot you.”
Ayato pulls you close as the security guard enters.
*Creaaaaak*
*Thud*
“Chichinashi...Don’t you dare move.”
*Flap flap flap*
*Rustle*
“Oi, keep still. That was just an owl fyin’ up in the air.”
You shiver.
“What’s wrong? You’re scared from such a lil’ thing? Haha...Pathetic. If you make any unnecessary sounds, we might actually get caught this time so suppress your voice, okay?”
*Rustle*
“Oi, did you hear that just now? There might be snakes and such here. Even that owl from earlier might have its eyes set on you.”
You flinch.
“Are you sure you should do that? If you move ‘round that much, you’ll get spotted. ...Hehe. Just how terrified are you? Besides, there’s something much more scary than snakes or owls right next to you, haven’t you noticed that? ーー You’ve been in the arms of a Vampire this whole time, remember?
*Rustle*
“Hehe...Did you think I was going to bite you? Idiot. I’d love to suck your blood, but now is not the right place or time, so I won’t for now.”
The security guard leaves again.
*Creaaaaak*
*Thud*
“The guy finally left? ...Hehe. I got to mess with you for a bit, so I guess these kind of trips aren’t bad once in a while.”
You get upset.
“You say that, but I bet you actually had fun as well, didn’t you?”
You deny that.
“I mean, I don’t really mind either way. ...Anyway, let’s get outta here already. There’s still plenty of places we haven’t explored yet. ...Hehe. Our night has only just started.”
ーー THE END ーー
Translation notes
(1) Ayato mispronounced the word at first, because the ‘oo’ in Japanese is pronounced like the ‘oa’ in ‘boat’ or ‘oats’ in English. However, it’s supposed to be more of an ‘uu’ sound in Japanese.

Nishikdo Ryo for Cinematoday 2023.06.19
rough translation of the interview
Nishikido Ryo is not in a hurry after becoming independent: "I want to live an easy-going life"
Kudo Kankura and Oishi Shizuka, who is currently writing for the 2024 Taiga drama 'Hikaru Kimi e', two extremely talented scriptwriters, have teamed up under the producer and director of 'Ikebukuro West Gate Park' and 'Kisarazu Cat's Eye' for the Netflix series 'Let's Get Divorced' (exclusive distribution starts 22 June). Nishikido Ryo, who established his own label 'NOMAD RECORDS' in 2019 and started his solo career, talks about the changes he has undergone since becoming independent.
Let's Get Divorced is a comedy in which Kurosawa Yui (Naka Riisa), a nationally popular actress, and Shoji Taishi (Matsuzaka Tori), an unenthusiastic hereditary politician, decide to separate, but their respective circumstances make it difficult for them to do so and things fall apart. It is during this delicate period that Yui meets Kano Kyoji, played by Nishikido. Nishikido says: "It's a great honour to be asked to play this role, and I hope I can do it in my own way. However, I wasn't that enthusiastic about it", he recalls when he received the offer.
After becoming a freelance actor, Nishikido "dabbled" in acting, such as in the Amazon Music short film "No Return," for which he worked again with Daihachi Yoshida, director of "Hitsu no Ki”. Following the NHK BS Premiere drama Kazoku Dakara Aishitan Janakute, Aishita no ga Kazoku Datta , this is the first drama in a long time in which viewers are exposed to Nishikido as an actor. However, Nishikido himself said, "You can still ride a bicycle even if you haven't ridden it for a while. Maybe that's how I feel about acting".
For Nishikido, the crank-in for "let's get divorced" was a scene with Naka Riisa. "We went out for Chinese food right after we meet. I had met Ms. Naka during the reading before shooting, but I was still nervous about the first scene. I pretended not to be nervous," he said with a wry laugh.
Kyoji is also a character with a strong presence in the drama. He spends his daytime hours in a pachinko parlour, and at first it is not even clear what kind of work he does. Despite this, he is somehow confident, calm and unfazed, and seems to be living in his own time, detached from his surroundings. As soon as she meets Yui, he quickly enters Yui's heart, which is shaken by her divorce, and while he is at times deeply gentle, he is at other times as cold as a sharp knife. In a word, he is a man who is very appealing to women, and Nishikido pulls off Kyoji in a very natural way. Nishikido says of Kyoji, "There are people who go to very good universities and have amazing titles, but then do unexpected things. I think he has a strong sense of self and has high priorities. And yet, he doesn't expect anyone to understand him. As a man, I envy him if I could live like that. Normally, I would be more concerned about my surroundings," he says, looking somewhat at ease with himself.
Nishikido, however, shows a contented expression after filming for the first time in a long time, saying, "More than anything, it was fun, and I realised that I really like acting. He adds, "It wasn't because I could lead different lives or for any clear reason at all", but "Someone came up with the script, and then the staff all thought about it, decided on the costumes and did the make-up. I memorise the lines, and it takes shape as a work of art. If someone watches it and thinks it's interesting, I'm happy. It's not more or less than that, it's just a feeling," he says, explaining the joy of acting. Unlike music, I don't make my work alone," he says slowly, choosing his words carefully, "I think it's wonderful to make a film together with co-stars and staff.
On the other hand, it is difficult for him to watch his performances objectively. "I don't tell anyone if I have any criticism about my performance (laughs). But I want to think that what came out in my expressions, what was captured on camera, and what was edited was the best I could do.” As for the drama, he said, "I want everyone to see it as soon as possible. It's a very interesting story, and the characters are all lovable. I like that there is no one who ends up being just a hateful person," he said confidently.
How did you spend the time away from acting?  “Nothing has changed. There was never a time when I did not watch movies or dramas, and I never thought to myself, "I want to act too!” It was too presumptuous of me to even think about such a thing. It was my own choice to take a different path.” Ryo said naturally. “I feel that offers received before I became independent have a slightly different meaning than offers received after I became independent. I feel that acting offers is more significant now because they thought I was the right person for the role” He says, expressing his gratitude.
As for the reason why he wasn't in a hurry, he said, "In my case, it was it not I want to act in films but there aren't any films for to appear in, It was the result of my own choices, so I had no negative feelings at all” he said, without wavering in his choice. But he was not aggressively or forward about it and said, "I thought, it's okay if I can't act in the future. So I wasn’t saying, "I'm going to make it in the next production!" I'll just do my best, and if I catch someone's eye, there might be a next time. Even if I don't act anymore, even if I don't do this kind of work, I'd rather live a normal, easy-going life," he says, somewhat overlapping with Kyoji.
It is also striking that he describes his change of heart since becoming independent as 'running, to feeling like skipping'. “Skipping is surprisingly fast yet easy. So I don't dislike it, but I try hard to express it somehow. I enjoyed the parts I enjoyed before, and I still suffer from the parts I suffer from. But now, it is all up to me to decide what path to take. That is why each and every responsibility falls on me. At the same time, I have a solid feeling that I am carving out a path for myself. The experiences I accumulate are clearly different from before. It is up to each person to decide which is better, but I prefer this one. It's not like I can say "No, it's been fine!", but I don't want to say anything negative about it either. So I hope that as more years go by, I can connect today to tomorrow, when I will be glad that I chose the path I have taken so far. Then maybe something will come out of it.” he said quietly and confidently.

Host Club road trip...
where they sit in the car, along with the songs they solo sing in the car under threat that if they don’t Tamaki will sing and serenade the Host club for the entire 8 hour car drive (they’re driving a minivan for the whole commoner experience - only one person voted for this option. Somehow the rest were ). The members at first took him on his challenge, but after an hour and a half of nonstop belting, Kyoya was looking up the nearest cliff to drive them all off.
Kyoya - The Driver - I Will Survive by Cake - Kyoya starts off singing quietly and reluctantly, huffing out the words through gritted teeth. By the middle of the song, he is singing in earnest as the words resonate and he’s feeling all of his frustrations. When the song reaches the end, Kyoya is practically scream crying the song in an uncharacteristic show of emotions. As the last note fades, and the car returns to utter silence, he straightens up, gives each member a quick death glare in the rearview mirror, and what just occurred is never talked about again. That is, until his next character development and growth arc.
Tamaki - The Middle Row Bitch that leans between the driver and the front seat passenger to breathe loudly and scream in their ears. He is NOT allowed the aux cord. Is the leading cause of no less than 3 almost accidents - History Maker by Dean Fujioka - (“HAHA, GET IT HARUHI? FUJIOKA!”) - complete with screaming, enthusiastic “singing”, and once again almost causing another accident.
Haruhi - The Dutiful Passenger who knows her job as shotgun - She is the only one who knows how to work a GPS since all the others are used to being chauffeured everywhere - Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond- She picks a song that she knows the rest of the club will lose their shit to so that it’s not just her singing. But to be honest, even Tamaki had mentally decided to skip over forcing her to sing a song. They know she can’t sing to save her life.
Hikaru - Banished to the far back - He starts off with trying to sing WAP by Cardi B, and was promptly interrupted because “THERE IS A LADY IN THE CAR” but little do all of the members know that Haruhi knows every word. - Fool by Cavetown - “I am such a fool to keep on chasing after nothing great, you are such a fool to keep pretending that you’re loving me” - He’s in his feelings and not ready to give up on Haruhi, but also knows that his chances are not good.
Kaoru - Also banished to the far back - As It Was by Harry Styles - He’s the one with the whole pumpkin thing and knowing that everything will eventually have to change. I can see him memorizing this nostalgic song by heart.
Mori - Next to Tamaki - Soldier Boy by Elvis Presley - This song in a deep ~Mori~ voice? Everyone is mesmerized and shocked in the best possible way. They ask him to sing more and he feigns falling asleep.
Honey - Spread out in the 2nd row to sleep - He would sing the most out there song he could think of. That, or Tik Tok by Kesha.

late bloomer, ch 7
“There’s my girl,” Kaoru crows as soon as he spots you. At a look from Hikaru, he amends, “Our girl,” and pulls you into a hug. Low in your ear, he says, “Not Haruhi’s, but…”
You push away. “If you’re going to be a dick, I’ll just head home.”
“Noooo,” he whines.
“Ignore him, (Y/N).” Hikaru pops around your other shoulder. “He was three shots in before he even reached the pregame.”
“Yeah, which means she has some catching up to do!” Kaoru offers the red solo cup currently in his hand, full of whatever godawful concoction the Thetas have thrown together this time.
You shake your head, and he pouts at you. “You know my rule.”
“Never drink the jungle juice,” the three of you say in tandem.
Kaoru rolls his eyes, but takes the cup back, at least, knocking back most of its contents in one gulp. You can’t help but wince. Kaoru’s always had the strongest capacity for liquor of anyone you know, which makes you incredibly concerned for his health past graduation. “Spoken like someone who’s never really lived,” he says.
“Spoken like someone who wants to have a working liver when I’m thirty.”
“There’s some canned drinks in the kitchen, I think.” Hikaru says. “Want us to show you?”
“Nah, you can stay here. I’ll be right back.”
You push through the dark and sweaty room and are relieved to make it to the kitchen, which isn’t quite empty but is at least marginally less crowded. You pop open a watermelon seltzer and try to breathe.
“You sure that’s a good idea?”
You almost jump at the sound of his voice. “What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” Kyoya says. He’s leaning against the counter, looking relatively casual in a sweater and slacks. Not exactly frat-party attire, but at least it’s a departure from the suit. “You know overconsumption of alcohol can lead to fainting.”
You roll your eyes, and take a sip of your drink for good measure. A few sips. If Kyoya Ootori is going to try and engage you in some section-asshole-pedantry in the middle of a Theta party, you’d like to be as drunk as humanly possible. “I appreciate the concern, but I doubt one White Claw every three months is going to make me blackout.”
“You don’t drink a lot, then.”
“Are you surprised?”
“Maybe.” If it was anyone else, you would think he was teasing you. But he sounds so serious. Everything he says sounds so serious, and its seriously starting to get on your nerves.
“What, you had me pegged as an alcoholic?”
“Never mind.” He moves to take a sip of own drink, and you raise a brow, looking from the (mostly full) cup to his face. “Vodka and Sprite,” he says by way of explanation. You can tell by the wince on his face after he sips that he’s telling the truth. “Terrible.”
You can’t help but laugh. “What were you expecting, scotch? Or apple juice?”
“Right now I’d take either,” he says. “Gladly. It’d be leagues better than this.”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“Vodka and Sprite?”
“What you’re doing here,” you correct him. “I’ve never seen someone who looks like they’ve been to less parties in my life.”
“Unlike you, a true connoisseur,” he says, eyeing your can. “How you can make it through one of these with nothing but a White Claw every three months is beyond me.”
“Oh. No, I was dragged here by some friends. I’m not really a party person, either.” You angle your head in the direction of the living room/dance floor. “I wish I was. I mean, they’re good if I’m in the mood, which usually involves being drunk off more than a seltzer.”
“How do you feel about shots?”
“What happened to overconsumption of alcohol can lead to fainting? ” He shrugs. You blink up at him. “I’m not opposed.”
He reaches over your shoulder, and you flinch before realizing that he’s just trying to get at the drinks on the kitchen island. Only at fancy-ass Ouran would the Greek life kids be able to afford a house like this, you can’t help but think. You step aside to allow him better access, and take the opportunity to get a better look at him. He’s not bad-looking. He doesn’t have the type of vitality that Tamaki has, nor is he intimidatingly buff; but he’s tall, and well-dressed, and his shoulders press against the fabric of his shirt in a way that implies a bit of lean muscle. His face looks as though it should be committed to paint (knowing the type of wealth he comes from, it probably has, several times); the smooth, pale-velvet skin; the slim, curved nose, arriving at an offensively delicate point at the end; the dark eyes; the bow-drawn lips; and all of this framed by a defined jaw and well-shaped cheekbones and that strikingly dark hair.
If only he weren’t such an ass.
“Tequila alright?”
You clear your throat, looking away before he can catch you staring at him. “They have salt and lime?”
“They must.”
“Then yeah. Yeah, that’s great.”
He hands you an empty cup and goes about cutting a few lime slices. You take the opportunity to pour your own shot, and wait for him to finish. Ass or not, you have to admit that this particular interaction is going well. Even if it started out with him questioning your drinking choices. “To becoming party people,” he says once you’re set up with the salt and the lime.
“To becoming party people.” You touch your cup to his, lick the back of your hand, down the shot, and find your eyes meeting his as you suck on the slice of lime. For some reason, it brings a smile to your face. You certainly didn’t expect at any point tonight to find yourself in a frat kitchen, taking tequila shots with Kyoya Ootori, of all people. “Does this mean we’re not enemies anymore?”
Now he raises a brow. “Were we ever?”
You snort. “I mean. We didn’t exactly get off on the best foot in class.”
“I hardly think a difference in opinion makes us enemies. It made for interesting conversation, at the least.”
“Oh, no.”
“What?”
You point at him. “You’re one of those devil’s advocate guys. Is that it?”
A little crease appears between his eyebrows. “What?”
“You just like to argue for fun? You get off on it? Is that how you think normal people communicate, just pointlessly debating all the time?”
“We were having a discussion. In a discussion seminar. What’s pointless about that?”
You roll your eyes. “Can we take another shot? Whatever looks like it’ll taste the worst.” You know by now that if you want to get really fucked up, you have to go for the cheap stuff.
Once that shot’s been downed, you clear your throat. “Okay. I just…you really didn’t feel like there was any bad blood between us? I mean, okay, what about the hospital the other day?”
He pauses. “What about it?”
“We…well. I sort of jumped down your throat.” You take a breath, then a sip of your seltzer, then another breath. “So I guess that was my fault. Sorry about that.”
“Forgiven. Though, for what it’s worth, I wasn’t holding it against you.”
“Nice of you.”
“You didn’t seem to be having a great day.”
“Well. Mondays, you know?” You tip your head back, enjoying the buzz that is rapidly taking hold. “Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays…Saturdays. Sundays. Hard to pick a least favorite.”
“Sounds miserable.”
You shake your head. “I’m exaggerating. It’s not actually that bad. But the first week of the semester is always the hardest.”
“And the second week. And the third, the fourth, the fifth.” When you focus your unsteady gaze on him, you’re delighted to realize there’s something like a glint in his eye. He really is teasing you. “And so on, and so on.”
“Sounds miserable,” you parrot back at him, and he almost cracks a smile. “Well. At least Tamaki and Haruhi—”
“Kyoya? What are you doing hiding out—oh.” Olivia stops in the kitchen doorway, and takes in the sight of the two of you. “Hi.”
“Hi.” You respond to her closed-mouth smile with an uneasy one of your own. Olivia seems nice enough, from your little exposure to her, but sorority omegas always make you nervous.
“I thought you were grabbing us drinks,” she says to Kyoya, winding an arm through his. If you weren’t already tipsy-on-the-way-to-shitfaced, you’d swear you see him tense slightly. “But I see you found Little Miss Joan-of-Arc here.”
Your smile freezes on your face as she turns back to you. “(Y/N),” you offer.
“Yeah, I know. Crusading against the big bad alpha-omega industrial complex, or whatever it is, right?”
She laughs. You join in, if only because you don’t know how the fuck else to respond, and those two back-to-back shots were definitely a bad idea. Kyoya doesn’t laugh. She notices.
“What? I’m just joking. It’s funny. (Y/N) doesn’t care, right (Y/N)?”
“Yeah.”
“See?” She cocks her head. “Y’know, it’s so crazy, I feel like I know everyone at Ouran. But I, like, didn’t have any idea of who you were until Monday. Are you a transfer?”
“No, I actually went here for undergrad before—”
“It’s just that I’ve never seen you, like, out. At any benefits or anything.”
And there it is.
There’s no denying—Ouran is a nice school. A private university, an elite and expensive private university, where scholarship students are few and far in between. And the elite tend to flock together. So it’s no wonder that Olivia (Freidmonte, a Google search after that first class revealed, and a literal fucking diamond heiress) would know all of the other rich kids (aka ninety percent of the student body) from benefits and balls and whatever else rich people did to pass the time.
Olivia’s not stupid. She’s probably put two and two together and figured out that you’re just too poor for her to have taken notice of before. But it seems, from the way she’s clinging to Kyoya with a grip that would put an anaconda to shame, that she’s probably just annoyed that a lowly beta on a scholarship would have the audacity to talk to her boyfriend. Drunk or not, you know when you’re not wanted in a room.
You clear your throat. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to…I just…I have to meet some friends out there. Sorry.” The room is starting to spin around you—in a drunk way, not a fainting way, you’re pretty sure—as you make your way out of the kitchen. “See you in class,” you mumble. Neither one of them responds.
Being in the louder, crowded room almost immediately makes you want to throw up, so you push through to the nearest door, which leads to the backyard. It’s not far enough into the season to be cold; a leftover summer evening, a gift in these early September days.
You stumble down the creaky wooden stairs and collapse with your back against the house, and absentmindedly take another sip of your White Claw, before realizing with a groan how that’s definitely not going to make you any less drunk.
Oh, well. You’re too thirsty to really care.
“Having that good of a night, hm?”
Not Kyoya this time; someone you don’t recognize. Or rather, someone you do, but not by name. “Oh. Hi…”
“Reese.”
“(Y/N).” They offer a very ring-heavy hand, which you shake. If you were more sober, you’d try to get a better look. Heavy jewelry bothers you to wear, but you always like seeing it on other people. And the sight of one particular ring rings some bell in your memory as to where you know Reese from. “Oh. You run the beta frat, right?”
If you were drunk, you wouldn’t have said that at all; especially not that bluntly. You’d spent years dodging Epsilon Phi’s recruitment efforts. They seemed nice enough, but you couldn’t justify carving out the time or the money (or the interest) to take part in Greek life. But it seemed like a nice space, as far as frats went. Friendly. Full of people (of all presentations) who didn’t think that betas ought to fade into the background.
One only had to look at Reese to demonstrate that. They were probably the best-looking person you’d seen in your life, right up there with Tamaki Suoh; they even had similar tanned skin and beaming eyes, though their hair was bright copper and closer-cropped than Tamaki’s. Wearing a bright, tastefully low-cut purple shirt and high-waisted jeans, with the aforementioned jewelry (in addition to the rings, you blearily clocked several necklaces, bracelets, and at least one cartilage piercing). “We don’t really call ourselves that, but yeah.”
“Sorry. Sorry, I don’t know what’s wrong with me tonight.” To your horror, you’re getting a little choked up. Something about the slog of the week; the reality of Haruhi going on a date with a guy who is, by all appearances, perfect; Olivia; Kyoya; those two-and-a-half drinks—it’s too much.
“Hey! It’s not a big deal, really. You’re fine.” They peer at you with what you dimly register as concern. “Are you okay? Do you need some water?”
“M’fine.”
“Yeah. Water. C’mon, the kitchen’s this way.”
“No, no, no,” you say, clinging to some vague idea that Kyoya and Olivia might still be there. After some coaxing, you do allow them to get you to the (blissfully empty) kitchen, find you an unopened bottle of water, and get you to divulge the names of the friends you came here with.
They disappear, but you only have all of thirty seconds to feel abandoned before they return with the twins, who fuss over you and determine immediately that you should probably go home. Even though it’s, like, ten in the evening.
This part of the night is the fuzziest, even as you’re living through it. Stumbling down empty streets. Crashing through your front door. Crouching in front of the toilet with one twin holding your hair back. Being tucked into bed on your side. The door; Haruhi’s voice; the door again, and quiet. Someone leaving pills and water and a big blue bottle on your nightstand. Sleep, curling around you.
And then, while you dream: flashes of warmth and witty remarks and dark, dark eyes.

Anime NYC 2023 - I Still Have a Place
Tumblr media
What a weekend.
Anime NYC 2023 just ended and while there were a few things I didn't like, I really enjoyed my time there this year. And more importantly, it was a personal epiphany for me.
I started the weekend by attending the Viz Media panel. There weren't really any significant announcements, but Yoshifumi Tozuka, the creator of Undead Unluck, stopped by and he was great. It was a teaser of his own panel the following day, but Tozuka-sensei did enlighten fans about Undead Unluck and how he wanted to present the series to fans worldwide.
After that, I went to the Autism in the Anime Fan Community panel. This was a live panel version of the "Autism in the Anime Fan Community - Solo Version" video by James Williams, an anime fan diagnosed with autism and a public speaker on autism awareness. James has been doing the panel at various conventions over the past couple of years. It was a very raw and vulnerable panel on the challenges those with autism face at conventions. James also had a special guest, Larissa Grabois, an artist who uses music and art to teach people about children living with autism. She has music videos and books pertaining to autism on her website and I will be paying very close attention. This provided much food for thought.
After that, I didn't stick around for the night panels. Though It was nice to hear Denpa license the ODDTAXI manga as I know people who adored the anime when it came out.
So onto Saturday, I went to the Yen Press panel and was impressed with what they did. They did a fun "Know the Editors" section alongside their announcements, where each editor would promote a title they work on and provide "Useful Nihongo" (which isn't actually useful in a regular context) to use. It was pretty funny to see. Yen Press also gave a shout out to The Summer Hikaru Died, which I yelled "YES!" to. Not many of the new titles they licensed caught my eye, but the one that did was She Likes Gays, But Not Me. I will say this - the manga isn't a romantic comedy and that's why I can't wait for its release in 2024.
Afterwards, I went to the Dark Horse Manga panel. There wasn't really anything new announced per say, but they did promote the latest Deluxe Edition of Berserk and the 1st omnibus of Innocent coming out very soon. Also, Carl Horn and Zack Davisson are truly the manzai duo of the manga industry scene. They have a very fun chemistry that really takes the best of both of their personalities and mixes them into something you really don't see in manga publisher panels. Both also know A LOT about comics in general. If you ever get a chance to see a Dark Horse Manga panel, do it. Carl and Zack really make worth it your while.
I didn't stick around for the later panels on Saturday night, but I know the Kodansha Manga panel that happened that night was great. There's a LOT of fun stuff coming out from them in the future. Blue Lock has become arguably THE big mainstream manga hit of 2023. I love a lot of their titles as their stories are often ones I value highly. What I'm looking forward from them? Home Office Romance (which was REALLY popular in the manga Reddit) and Sheltering Eaves (Another Rie Aruga story? Sign me up).
On Sunday, I only attended the Star Fruit Books panel. I got to learn a lot about the company being there and it was actually a small group of people who attended. So it made for a more intimate experience compared to other industry panels. Even though the publisher started during COVID, they have made huge strides in being an strong publisher of independent manga (alongside Denpa). I actually inquired about them possibly licensing manga stories from indie creators about mental health/illness because I have heard there's a lot of manga out there in Japan that covers those topics.
After that, I was done with everything. I did manage to get some nice items from booths and played mahjong with the Riichi Nomi club.
I think the convention was fine for the most part. It was crowded, but I didn't feel overwhelmed. I always had space to move around. The only things that stood out to me were that some of the panel rooms were a bit too warm to my liking and that the gaming area just felt too tight. In particular, mahjong. My club's presence last year had a good amount of space for mahjong. This year, we were relegated to the show floor and to a far end corner of the convention center. I hope this changes next year.
(Side note: NYC public transit on the weekend continues to suck ass. Why have a train stop right next to the convention center when weekend construction would prevent trains from stopping there? Sigh.)
And speaking of next year, Anime NYC 2024 will happen in the summer - August 23-25, 2024. It's going to be the bang that ends summer convention season in the U.S. after Anime Expo, San Diego Comic-Con and Otakon. There's definitely concerns about the timing, but they will have the FULL convention center at their disposal. I don't mind honestly as I dislike going to a convention when it's happening a month before winter starts.
Anyway, I'm going to finally make a reference to the headline of my post. For those of you who read my birthday post, anime and manga don't seem to inspire me a great deal lately. Getting into mahjong was one of the best things I did for my mental health over the past 2 years. Despite being a manga blogger, I was becoming more of a mahjong addict.
However, when I arrived to the con on Friday, I was greeted by a manga journalist/colleague that I hadn't seen in years. It was a surprise to see them and we caught up. We had a wonderful discussion about manga, comics and pop culture.
And then on Saturday, I got to meet people I followed on Twitter that I never met in person. I even reunited with a few blogger folks along the way. We talked about manga and convention trends that made me smile. I also met up with Anime for Humanity (who I volunteered in the past) and finally met its founder at the event. I even reunited with a local Japanese culture personality that I hadn't talked to in years. It felt really cool.
To cap it off, I finally reunited with Peter Tatara, who was working the Japan Society booth. For those who don't know, he is the founder of Anime NYC and now Director of Film at Japan Society New York. He also has a long and established history of promoting anime in New York. When I first started my foray into anime fandom in 2008, it was Peter who MCed events at the Kinokuniya NYC store that got me hyped. We worked together at those events a few times due to a mutual connection we both shared. Even though he's a huge and very busy personality now, Peter would take the time to talk to me in years past. We both shared laughs and talked about how long we known each other.
Ever since I got so deep into mahjong, I questioned my place in the manga fan community. I wasn't active as much on Twitter as other online manga personalities these last few years. While I do get hyped, I don't get heavily excited covering manga license announcements. I don't have a huge manga collection at home. I struggle to keep up with everything.
And then someone at the con told me that because of my interest in what's happening the world regarding mental health problems that plague communities, I still bring a certain view that's unique and refreshing to hear. After meeting and reuniting with a bunch of faces, I can't leave the manga blogging scene. I just can't. I love talking about manga so much still. Mahjong still has a place in my heart, but there's nothing that gets me going like talking about the stories and characters that shape people's lives.
What's more important is that being around the industry/pros/press folks I was with at Anime NYC tell me that I still have a place here. I may not be attending everything manga-related, but I want to be the person from the shadows who talks about things that definitely deserve to be heard. Besides, it's much cooler doing things in the shadows than being in the spotlight.
An old friend I saw at the convention on Sunday said that I looked the happiest I've been in years. Mahjong definitely played a huge part in that and I want to bring that energy back into my manga blogging.
I've been going to conventions for 15 years now. So many people in my life that I met via conventions have come and gone. People that I wish were still here. I have often felt lonely. Being 41 now also doesn't help either.
And yet, I keep meeting new people at conventions like Anime NYC who inspire me and value my take on things. I may not be living the best life, but I'm definitely happy-ish with what I have now. And that's all I ever wanted to ask for.
Also, thank you to everyone I talked to at Anime NYC. I'm now really ready for the 2nd half of my life.

Love: After she broke up with her partner, she has been in a relationship again since two month ago. This person is making her happy for the moment, they are giving her everything that she wants. Honestly she is just happy
Career:  I sense that she had a huge argument with a higher up or a manager due to something that was taken away from her. She feels kinda rejected and very annoyed about the situation
Health:
Physical: She has something that is attaacking her vocal cords, but also giving her pain around her shoulders and backs, maybe a flu?
Mental:  She is good
Mashiro
Love: Her love life is tied to her professional life. At the moment Mashiro isn’t dating anyone, nor is she allowed to see people for the moment
Career: when it comes to her career, all the opportunities she has have been given and now she has to work very hard to repay everything that was given to her. Mashiro has quite a few debts. She also writes a lot and aspires to one day show her talents
Health:
Physical: She isn’t eating well/enough. Heart issue and headaches behind her eyelids
Mental:  She suffers from poor mental health, doesn’t sleep well, is unstable and where comment and hate are harsh for her. She is under treatment

I se a lot of people inside the company who didn’t had good intentions with her, I see ruined opportunities and things that were taken from her to be given to other members. Health:
Physical: Thyroid issues and throat pain
Mental:  Very emotional at the moment, she is using things to escape the real world. She is pretty scared

【Lyric Video】Embrace【short ver.】
Following her first six releases as freelancer (Survivor, Escape, Flow, Awe, Treasure, Remain), Hikaru is now releasing her 7th digital single titled “Embrace”. A short lyric video was uploaded to her official YouTube channel so be sure to check it out!
At midnight of January 21, the digital track will be available on different online platforms! Link: https://linkco.re/DZhSax4g Lyrics Hikaru Composition HaKA Arrangement hoto-D
Thoughts: Ohhhhhh. I like this one a lot (at least what we get to hear from it for now). I am a bit sad though that there doesn't seem to be any substantial difference between the verse and the chorus (which is something I usually want in my music, give me a strong build-up dammit XD). The verse is beautiful and it actually sounds like it is building up to something bigger but then nothing really happens T_T Still, the first verse and chorus as a whole feel very impactful to me. I think it's the somber atmosphere and Hikaru's emotional singing. Okay, I have now listened to the whole thing and I still like it very much. I REALLY love the bridge with the "Ai yueni..." lines. I also appreciate that the song has a bit more oomph in the second half. Hikaru providing some harmony for herself helps add a lot of dimension I think.

Sono Saki He Review
To commemorate finally having the finances to buy this album(even if it's just one type), I will do a review(with 0 musical knowledge).
Butterfly Dream. 8/10 At first I wasn't sold. But after a few listens it grew on me. I like the nice happy sound and it has a fantasy theme. I'm a sucker for fantasy themes.
Napa Rui. 10/10 I like the Celtic vibe. This is my fave in this album. I hope I get to watch this live one day.
Shirushi. 9/10 Nice and calm ballad. I can see myself listening to this when I want to chill. I like how Wakana's voice is so gentle here.
Kibo 8/10 I like this, the melody is good. But I'm still unsure whether I like how the high notes were done. But overall it's a great song. It's one of my favs in this album.
kara. 9/10 I never knew that this song would fit a game MV. But even without a tie-in, I still like to listen to it. I just have a little issue with a few parts that need more force and power. Also, I wonder if it's a conscious decision to do the last "SHO-wo" that way.
Sono Saki he - interlude 8/10 nice instrumental break.
Kemono. 7/10 I wasn't sold at first. I put off listening to it because I was so turned off by the start. There is a feeling of disharmony with how Wakana sang at the start and the instrumental. But after listening to it fully, I eventually liked it. The Vocaloid style was new and interesting.
Asu wo Yume Mite Utau 10/10 I just love ballads. Wakana's voice is so nice here.
Flag 10/10 I love it at first listen. I love the fantasy feel and the emotions in the delivery. Also, I love the contrast between the gentle parts and the powerful parts. I hope Wakana would have more tie-ins with games. I think this was the first time I heard her sing in such a strong and fast way in her entire solo career. I want more songs like this.
sono saki he 7/10 Nice song but compared to the rest, this was underwhelming.
Ato Hitotsu 8/10 Nice ballad. But nothing stands out for me.
Overall. A solid album. I like most if not all of the songs and I love that there are more songs with a fantasy feel. I hope Wakana would go more in that direction. Wakana is suited for fantasy-themed songs. Her voice has this ethereal feel, add a nice fantasy image and it would be perfect.
That said, I can see that Wakana is still figuring out where she wants to go with her singing. She still has a few things to improve on. Like to develop a stronger voice for a few parts. There are times when I wish she used a fuller voice in a part of a song. But compared to the start of her solo career she has improved a lot. I hope she continues to work with a vocal coach.
I don't know the status of Wakana's career if she's producing good return on investment. But I am glad that her music and stuff are still of good quality and that she's still getting wonderful songs and opportunities. I hope she gets more tie-ins with games. The game industry is a good industry, it's still growing and has a wide range of audiences. I wish all the best for Wakana's career.
I'm still here...
I'm still here, waiting for Spacecraft to figure things out to get Kalafina a reunion concert. Even if Yuki Kajiura is not ready to produce for Kalafina, the agency can still approach Keiko and Hikaru.
A concert is enough for me... Kalafina has so many beautiful songs. It'd be a waste if no one would sing them live.

My Personal Burst Rankings
Each season, the ranking of best to worst blader seen shifts as the standards increase with time and new bladers join. This is my opinion on the ranking of the top 10 bladers for each season.
This is on overall, and not just raw power. If it were just power, Kurt would likely be in first or second for Evolution, as Raul stated that there was no bey in the world at that point that could beat Khalzar in raw strength. These lists can include the same blader with different beys. Master Dragon isn't counted as it is the combination of two separate beys.
Hyde was better than Phi, but due to Phoenix absorbing Hades' power, Hyde lost. Phi then became better by fusing Revive Phoenix and Dread Hades into one bey.
As for Rise, Dante's first win against Arthur was by sheer luck, but then Dragon fully awakened and I'd say Dante/Dragon surpassed Arthur/Apocalypse then. Arman's win was awesome but it was little more than a fluke to me. It's the same situation as with Kurt, Arthur has more raw power than Dante or Delta, but raw power alone doesn't mean one is overall better. Interestingly Arthur was never beaten properly in a one on one with the Eclipse Armour by Delta. Delta got the upper hand once but each time Arthur lost was either to Dante or to a Dante/Delta tag-team.
Also, Hikaru and Hyuga are better solo than they get credit for. Oh, and Valt somehow easily breaking Lain's barrier was an ass pull with both Valt and Lain pulling out major plot armour. The Valt/Shu battle was a load of balls too. How Valt managed to beat the one guy who handed Vex Lucius's back end to it I'll never know. Aiger, the world champion and therefore better at the time, had to work much harder to beat Lain, and he wasn't even at his best due to Achilles' different modes. Weirdly, Dragon overpowered Achilles in one battle but the strain was too much and it ended up causing itself to burst, that's why my Surge list has Dante above Aiger and Aiger above Valt.)
QuadDrive is difficult because Rashad is never really seen battling with Regnar at full tilt due to bonding/resonance as it was damaged in a battle with Belfyre. That's why Ultimate Valtryek won so well against Regnar, because it was damaged. A full circle thing from when Salvage Valtryek broke because it was damaged. So Rashad/Regnar at their best without any damage to Regnar is what is used for the appropriate list.
If you ask me, it goes like this: Dragon (Awakened) > Apocalypse (Eclipse Armour) > Apocalypse >= Dragon (Partially Awakened) > Dragon.
I should point out that Destined Belfyre is basically just the Ultimate Gear version of Divine Belfyre. All lists can contain bladers from a previous season.

Valt Aoi (Victory Valtryek)
Shu Kurenai (Storm Spryzen)
Lui Shirosagi (Lost Lúinor)

“Catch Me If You Can” Special Interview
Tumblr media
Iwamoto’s first solo lead role in the theater will finally start showing. He kindly talked to us about the time before practice, his thoughts about the work, and his enthusiasm before the start of the show.
“The members might laugh when they see me getting teased if they come to watch the play”
I’m afraid a lot of people will probably recall Leonardo DiCaprio-san’s movie when they hear the title, but I think it will unexpectedly become a different work. The first (difference) is dancing. This time it’s a Broadway musical so of course, we’d dance.  And we’d also sing (laughs). Aside from the story, those are big changes we would be doing for the play. That’s why I think it could be points for comparison against the movie.
I don’t have a lot of experience being the lead in plays, but I hope that I can discover my own expressions and performances that I didn’t know I could do before by being in a musical now. I expect that there are a lot of things to learn and feel once the practice starts. Exploring and trying new things is an important experience so I can only anticipate good things. I am really looking forward to it. This experience will allow me to have new advantages in the future. I want to smile with satisfaction when I see the people who come to watch the show say “Did Iwamoto sing and dance like this? He’s good!” and smiles with satisfaction (laughs). By the way, I’m the youngest in the cast. Being in that position too is very new. If the members come to watch they might laugh and say “Eh? Hikaru is being teased!” (laughs).
I’m also looking forward to the performances in different regions. I want to go to the saunas of the places we’d be going to! When the staff heard me say that they told me “You’re not allowed to go anywhere except to the theater and the hotel”. That’s why as a part of my preparation for the role, I’m planning to disguise myself as a hotelier and go outside. Of course, at that time I will leave a memo in the room saying “Catch me if you can”. I want to say that I’ll do that but I will be properly following the rules (laughs).
Q. The part where I want you to focus on is...?
A. First, the splendid cast is the highlight. I think this is worth seeing especially Kishi Yuji-san who I watched as Red Racer in Sentai since I was a child.  During those times, he was like a hero to me. I’m really happy that I’m able to work with a person like him.  And because I play the role of a con man, there are also scenes where I wear different uniforms like that of a pilot or a doctor. I would be happy if you look forward to those too.

My journey with Idol’s animes and mangas - Part 3
A new path of this journey has ended. Today I'm going to talk about “Kami Kuzu Idol” (or, “Phantom of the Idol”, but I don't like the choice of the english title).
Tumblr media
BUT! First of all I want to say, I’m not a big fan of men idols. I tried, it is hard (but lately maybe is not), and I just can say the biggest company of men idols is Johnny’s, where you can find groups like Arashi, NEWS, Hey! Say! JUMP, Sexy Zone (if you saw Fuller House, you might know them) or King & Prince;
Tumblr media
but I know there’s another one called DD Company, which has groups I’ve been told to listen (and are interesting), these being MeseMoa, *ChocoLate Bomb!! and Panda Dragon.
Tumblr media
Okay but… Why am I saying this? Well...
Kami Kuzu Idol is an anime about a guy called Niyodo Yuuya, who is in a duet group with Yoshino Kazuki called ZINGS
Tumblr media
; this guy (Niyodo) is an idol just because he thought it was easy money,
Tumblr media
has the problem that he doesn’t give his best… Well, anything. Suddenly he found the ghost of the “Kami Idol” Mogami Asahi; we have them talking about how Asahi died, how she really misses being an idol (she died just when she reached the center as she said). After a small and involuntary action from Asahi (she literally possessed his body and couldn’t get out for a moment), they started working together
Tumblr media
and making Yuuya a better idol and partner for Kazuki, because, yes, there was a kind of threat to both of them to get better (well, Niyodo) or Yoshino would go solo (and he has a bit of stage panic).
Tumblr media
After the first live being possessed by Asahi, all changed.
I won’t lie, I hated Yuuya, at first he even wanted to overwork Asahi, but she wants to see him get better. Niyodo doesn’t know a thing about idols, seems to not pay even a small attention to what he’s been told at work, or about being a fan, so he won’t give a kind of connection with his fans, as idols do. So Asahi’s work also becomes a kind of “Let me teach you about this wonderful world, work, my never ending dream” (she doesn’t say this, is my interpretation of her actions).
Tumblr media
A part of the anime is also “OshiBudo like”, this meaning that fans have a point to exist as characters. Mainly three fans, who are Niyodo’s. They’re more comic, but as I said about OshiBudo, they work for their idols; oh right, in this case the fans are all women…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Until a certain moment, because ZINGS isn’t the only group, another important (just one character to be honest) is C Grass. They are the biggest idol group in the anime, “The princes of the nation” or something like that. Well the leader Setouchi Hikaru, was (or better said still is) a big fan of Mogami Asahi, and he was looking to ZINGS, he found sometimes the same mannerisms of Asahi on Niyodo (I wonder what would he think if he knew the truth)
Tumblr media
and he even threatened Yuuya to stop disrespecting Asahi in that way, this also makes him to try not use her a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This anime was nice to watch, but tries to convey many things (i think) in 10 episodes.
Now a meme i agree with for most of this anime.
Tumblr media
The important point is how it ends, saying that an idol is someone who stands on a stage and shines, so they make their fans’ hearts shine, and while the fans loves them more, the idol’s shine will grow, and as the fans keep loving them (this meaning after they are idols, whatever is the reason) they will keep shining; obviously this last part are heavier words as it refers Asahi’s death, and her surprise about still having fans that still love her; but it is applicable to that time after the day they graduate (leave being idols, specially if they become a normal person)
Tumblr media
I like how Asahi explains what being a fan is, how a fan feels, how important it is to Niyodo, even though this dummy just realices it basically in the last episode.
The songs are nice to listen to, but i wouldn’t get all over that, but the meaning of some of these are explained at the last episode.
The opening was “Let’s ZING!”
The endings changed basically for every episode (well, it was more like rotative)
Personally I Liked “Uraomote no Duet” and “Hare La Lu La”
The 3D was used for scenes where they dance, but I found it a bit weird when i looked at Niyodo, personally i don’t think it fits right with his character design.
Tumblr media
THEY HAVE DIADEM MICROPHONES! I’m sold with microphones at sight (please learn SHINEPOST)
Tumblr media
I think I don’t need to say that Asahi Mogami is my favorite character; but also, without her there, the story wouldn’t exist as it is. She’s cute, a top idol, she really likes that work, and is really proud about it,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but not being annoying, that’s why she helps Yuuya; she has told even when she failed, stuff she doesn’t know about (skin care for example) and how she did it. She is such a pure soul.
Tumblr media
Yoshino is a cute guy, the total opposite of Yuuya, like a lost puppy I'd say. You think in the first episode he might lack self trust, and is confirmed later. He does his best, maybe limited by that self trust lack.
Tumblr media
The Niyodo fans are funny, in a way relatable, but not as much as the fans we saw on OshiBudo; because it is also a completely different ambient. You can see part of ZINGS 'story through them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
  Niyodo is annoying,
Tumblr media
but you may understand why he might think some stuff, how he does stuff. He gets trust on Asahi to even avoid overwork her, and to work in a way he can make her proud (specially last episode). At the end you learn to like him.
Hikaru is interesting to me, he’s a kind of tsundere fan of Niyodo; I don’t care about this point though. There’s an episode where we have context how he became an Asahi’s fan, and then an idol, and even how he got her death’s news. But my interest is how he became a fan, because my emotional state was probably a bit similar to his; I don’t want to put here personal stuff, but feeling empty, and not having such energy to even go to school,
Tumblr media
and then having your heart filled with that magic idols give, is pretty important.
Tumblr media
“We want the fruity level” you might think (yes, i think it is important to add this on every post). OKAY! The point here is the work Yoshino puts into not becoming a soloist, is not only because of his own good against his stage panic; he says it. Besides that, Hikaru is like a tsundere Niyodo’s fan, he even blushes a bit hard at one point.
Tumblr media
The fruity level is “meh”, but exists.
With all said, it isn't the best anime, has one of the bestests girls, touches some light topics in an interesting way, gives a good laugh, and is casual.
I give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
Tumblr media
But it is recommendable, at least to be all “awwwww” about Asahi being a ball of cuteness and love for being an idol.
