If Christian holidays get days off of the school/work calendar then I don’t see why Jewish/Buddhist/Hindu/Islamic/etc holidays shouldn’t either. If you give time off to one religion you should give it to the rest of them, not everyone celebrates Easter lmfao

Meena bakes a ton of cookies around the winter holidays to celebrate everyone’s separate holidays and Johnny and Ryan volunteer as taste testers whenever they aren’t having to rehearse.

Ryan, a hopeless romantic, loves watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Johnny, also a hopeless romantic, always joins him. He doesn’t get why there’s so many movies with the same exact plot on, but it makes Ryan happy so he’s happy.

Even though he doesn’t celebrate Christmas himself, Johnny does go with Ryan to celebrate with his family because he just likes being around them and how important the holiday is for Ryan. In return, Ryan goes with Johnny all the way back to Calatonia to celebrate Boxing Day with his family. They both really enjoy it, even the long bus rides.

Once, Nooshy hung mistletoe all over the dance rehearsal room. Ryan, the first to practice, honestly didn’t notice and just started warming up. Johnny, the next to arrive, immediately realised this was a trap but was shoved into the room by Nooshy before he could run. 

Both Johnny and Ryan spend a large portion of the breaks during rehearsal answering all of Ryan’s baby sisters’s questions about Santa. The answers to those questions however have to keep getting more and more complex because apparently a kid in their class said he wasn’t real and now both boys are trying to think up reasons scientists never found his workshop at the North Pole.

Johnny and Ryan’s favourite Christmas movie to watch together is The Nightmare Before Christmas. This inevitably leads down the claymation movie spiral of Johnny making Ryan watch Kubo and The Two Strings and Coraline (his favourite movies of all time) but Ryan just finds it adorable.

They obviously have a Christmas playlist that they listen to. Like the first thing Johnny did after finding out the Ryan celebrates was making it. He surprised Ryan with it on the first day of December when they were staying in the Majestic. Ryan absolutely loves it.

They have a mini version of holiday decorations for both Ryan and Johnny’s holidays in their hotel room at the Majestic so it’s always decorated appropriately.

Johnny is terrible at wrapping presents. Ryan, from years of practice wrapping his sisters’s for them, is amazing at it. Johnny finds this extremely unfair but is way more interested in watching his boyfriend wrap gifts than improving his own ability to do so.

After finding out he was invited over for Christmas with Ryan’s family (the first time), Johnny just panicked and asked Rosita what a person did at a Christmas celebration if they were just a guest (he had celebrated with her family the year before but as their foster son so he had no idea what to do). He ended up bringing ginger candy that Ryan’s sisters love, and some spice cake that Meena helped him make. Ryan’s moms find this very cute and helpful.

Ryan and Johnny go out Christmas shopping together for everyone else’s gifts but they both sneak out later on to get each other gifts.

At that first Christmas they spent together, Ryan and Johnny were given matching holiday sweaters handmade by Ryan’s mom. They both loved them and wore them to both interviews and practice for the next week.

Johnny, being from the East End of London, is very used to cold weather and isn’t really bothered by it. Ryan, who was born and raised in the Nevada desert on the other hand, absolutely hates it. He is always cuddled right up next to Johnny any chance he gets so he can “steal his body heat” and will put his hands in Johnny’s jacket pockets to keep warm. Johnny finds this beyond adorable and starts carrying heating packets in his pockets to make sure his boyfriend doesn’t freeze.

Since you live in Australia and you're a SW fan, have you had any experiences with people identifying with 'Jedi' as a religion?

ha, I mean, as far as I know that's mostly a 'fucking about on the census' thing; there's a few people who say they genuinely believe in it, but...that kind of gets into a question about 'what is a religion' and a whole bunch of policy stuff I am not touching with a twenty foot pole.

So, yes, when it comes to people fucking about on the census, no, when it comes to people who identify as Actually Identifying As Jedi.

#coats chats #honestly the census religion question is always a bit weird cause like. #australia is a fairly non-religious country at this point? #like there's enough cultural christianity that we're not a Non Religious Country #easter xmas ect are public holidays #but last census I think about 40% of australia responded with either no religion or didn't answer the question? #and like. idk only a quater of christian denomination (broad catagory) go to church on a regular basis at all. #teeny tiny jewish population (.4%) #and muslim/buddist/hindu are all about 2 - 2.5% each. ish. #just about 50% of the county is Some Variety Of Christian split pretty eventy between catholics and the various protestant branches #(mostly anglican tbh for obvious historical reasons) #but like compared to say the US. we are a very non religious country.

As Lou made his walk up to the Ivy Grove, he noticed the absence of the brightly coloured strips of cloth that had been tied to one of the trees outside. It was funny, because he had considered saying no to Raksha’s request when she had asked him if she could do it, worried about the aesthetics and any environmentalists who might take issue. The Ivy Grove was a business now, after all. But, Raksha had explained that it would just be for a few weeks, as part of a religious observance. And he was glad he had allowed it, as it had added a cheery air to things.

They were gone now, the ritual complete, and Lou was surprised at himself for missing them.
