Hoje lembrei de uma parábola que gostaria de compartilhar com você. Duas rãs caíram dentro de uma jarra de leite. Uma era grande e forte, mas impaciente – e confiando na sua forma física, lutou a noite inteira, debatendo-se para escapar. A outra rã era pequena e frágil. Como sabia que não teria energia para lutar contra seu destino, resolveu entregar-se. Com suas patas, fez apenas os movimentos necessários para manter-se na superfície, sabendo que cedo ou tarde iria morrer. “Quando não se pode fazer nada, nada se deve fazer” pensava ela. E assim as duas passaram a noite – uma na tentativa desesperada de salvar-se, a outra aceitando com tranqüilidade à idéia da morte. Exausta com o esforço, a rã maior não agüentou e morreu afogada. A outra rã conseguiu boiar a noite inteira – e quando, na manhã seguinte, resolveu entregar-se, reparou que seus movimentos somados aos movimentos da sua companheira haviam transformado o leite em manteiga. #repost @iaf_in_ia ---Above are several Romanian TR-77-580 MBTs on the streets of Bucharest during the Romanian Revolution, 1989. . Following the Second World War, Romania was under communist rule in the Eastern Bloc until December of 1989 when the revolution took place. Social and economic turmoil pervaded the country but unrest culminated when the government attempted to evict a Hungarian pastor after speaking out against the regime, resulting in an uprising. Leading Romania’s communist party, Nicolae Ceaușescu addressed a crowd on December 21st, it was a failed speech which served only to incite a riot that was met with deadly force. Soon after Ceaușescu fled, the Romanian military defected and a he was eventually captured, trialed, and publicly executed along with his wife. Although not replaced with a perfect governing system, democratically elected figures helped lead Romania forward. . The above TR-77-580’s are a Romanian design which borrows heavily from the T-55, but is not a license built copy as it has a different internal layout and an extended chassis with 6x road wheels per side. The extended chassis was a result of the intention to power the tank with the Leopard 1 engine, but the producing company Krauss-Maffei refused to sell them to a Warsaw Pact country. Events like the Romanian Revolution cemented tanks as symbols of oppression, a sentiment likely not gone from many who lived through events such as this. From • @propagandopolis “The way the Germans did it / The way North Carolinians do it” — 🇺🇸 American cartoons published in North Carolina’s State Health Bulletin in October 1919 warning citizens of the ‘novel’ influenza, or Spanish Flu.* This one emphasises the lethality of the flu, contrasting a German machine-gunner with a careless sneezer. The rest of the caption reading: “During the recent war approximately 1000 men from North Carolina were killed in battle ... During the epidemic last fall and winter 13,644 North Carolinians laid down their lives to a 'spit-borne' disease -- influenza!” The illustrations accompanied a longer editorial piece that informed readers of the virus’s progress and the likelihood of another wave. ⁣ ⁣ The flu emerged in 1918 and quickly spread across the world, killing tens of millions and infecting many hundreds of millions more. Given the timing, many countries already ravaged by four years of war struggled to cope with the new burden of the flu. The influenza came in four waves that lasted from 1918 until spring 1920, the deadliest of them being the second that began in August 1918 and was exacerbated by troop movements. By late 1919, when these cartoons were published, the worst of the pandemic was over, but local and national government bodies in the US were working diligently to produce and publish as much public health material as they could in a bid to forestall any new outbreaks. Much of the early material warned people against spitting (I’ve posted one or two anti-spitting ones already), but gradually became more general. ⁣ ⁣ *The flu wasn’t actually Spanish. During the war, the danger and scope of the emerging influenza was reported more openly in neutral Spain than in other countries that had imposed censorship. As a consequence, people began to believe that the flu had originated in Spain, when in reality its origins remain debated. In 1938 in the lead up to world war two, Hermann goering, chief of the Luftwaffe and world war one ace, would visit The ex Kaiser at the his home in the city of doorn. The kaiser was unimpressed with goering saying he was “A vain creature”. After the german takeover of France The kaiser would send Adolf Hitler a telegram saying “Under the deeply moving impression of the capitulation of France I congratulate you and the whole German Wehrmacht on the mighty victory granted by God”. Repost via @worldwar2_collector ・・・ Louis Lucky Cloud (Lucky Cloud) was recruited in 1943 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. On June 6, 1944, Lucky Cloud was in the group of paratroopers who jumped over Normandy and captured St. Mere Eglise during "D-Day." Within its decorations are the Bronze Star. Louis followed the warrior tradition of his grandfather, Pax-an-’pín, of the original Yakama tribe. Native Americans were not recruited to serve during World War I, since in 1917 they were not considered citizens of the United States. Approximately 25000 Native Americans actively fought during World War II: 21767 in the Army, 1910 in the Navy, 874 in the Marine Corps, 121 in the Coast Guard and several hundred Native American women as nurses. These figures represent more than a third of Native American men between 18 and 50 years of age, and even comprise 60% of the population of some tribes. Unlike African-Americans, Native Americans did not serve in segregated units, but did so together with white Americans. O objetivo dessa operação era cercar a capital soviética em 2 amplos movimentos de pinça, um ao norte contra a Frente de Kalinin, composto pelos 3º e 4º Exércitos Panzer, uma ação que serviria também para cortar a ligação entre Moscou e Leningrado, e outro ao sul, composto pelo 2º Exército Panzer, com o 4º Exército avançando diretamente a partir do oeste. O ataque começaria no dia 2 de Outubro, mais de 1 mês após a data inicialmente planejada. Esse atraso decorreu de uma exigência de Hitler em Agosto para que os blindados alemães do Grupo de Exércitos Centro fossem divididos entre os Grupos Norte e Sul, o que daria tempo para que Joseph Stalin construísse uma impressionante defesa à volta da sua capital. To dispose of the bodies of the many civilians who were killed in the Tiananmen Square massacre, PLA tanks and armoured vehicles simply ran over the bodies over and over again until they were turned into mush, and then the remains were incinerated and finally hosed down into drainages leading into the sewers of Beijing. Estimates of the number of people killed commonly range between around several hundred and several thousand.
