Dunk and Joong could have offered me anything in 2024, and I would have taken it, gladly, no questions because my ass is a Jaidee fan first and a human second. But to hand me The Heart Killers? Oh! Let me list all the reasons y'all gonna hate me when this comes out.
Tumblr media
Joong plays Khao's older brother
Tumblr media
Khaotung is older than Joong, but in BL Land that doesn't matter because Khao is playing the hopeless romantic little brother while Joong is playing his stern older brother. Someone already wrote it was 10 Things I Hate About You/The Taming of the Shrew, and Shakespeare would be thrilled to know one of his masterpieces is getting the queer treatment and it's not Twelfth Night.
Dunk is playing the crazy seducer
Tumblr media
Boy wants a car and is willing to go to great lengths to do it, including distracting some dude, so his buddy can play house with that dude's little brother. But the whole point is they had to find a guy who was crazy enough to accept the offer in the first place >insert Dunk's character< so the guy isn't just wanting the car. He is doing this for the thrill of getting tied up, stripped down, and threatened.
Tumblr media
And I respect that.
Jojo is apparently directing
Tumblr media
I wanna have beef with Jojo after Only Friends, then I look at his resume and remember this is the man who gave me puppy play in The Warp Effect, poly in 3 Will Be Free, and a chaotic stripper named Judo in Dirty Laundry PLUS the YinWar trailer for their Partner in Crime concert which has now lead to YinWar doing Jack & Joker, so as a vegetarian, I'm gonna be like Elsa and let that go.
Which means Rath is probably the cinematographer
Tumblr media
I don't give men compliments easily, so when I state that Cinematographer Rath has never disappointed me, I mean it. The man knows what he is doing, and if he is in on this series, I know if anything, it will be visually stunning.
First and Khao being the Beyonce of GMMTV
Tumblr media
I'm in Jaidee's corner always, but I have eyes and First and Khao could really do whatever they want and I'd eat it up. I have believed them with whomever they have been partnered with in the past, and if they want to play high schoolers in an oppressed school system or a banker willing to see his ex and his ex's new man just to flirt with the boy from the market, I'm buying the tickets, I'm sitting in the front row, and I'm holding up homemade posters. Basically, I'm shutting the fuck up and experiencing whatever they want me to experience.
First and Khao tears
Tumblr media
This is its own category because when they cry, they are in a league of their own. They claimed this series was going to be lighter than their previous work, but what is a First or Khao series without tears? I hope they are drinking water right now because someone is crying in this series, and JD's faces are already wet for other reasons.
DUNK'S BODY!
Tumblr media
Not to objectify the man's body, but . . . it's a banger, and he has been done dirty by wardrobe for two solid years. His face card never declines. His arms are solid. His waist is snatched. His hair is perfect. Even Tay, New, and Jan were talking about him in the BTS for Peaceful Property because they were saying how New's character was based off of Dunk - pretty, fashionable, and COCKY! But wouldn't we all be that cocky if we were walking around looking like this?! Like shut up fives. A ten is speaking!
Tumblr media
It's high time that man got to stunt like Force always does just taking off his shirt for no reason. Good for him. And good for us.
Oh, yeah, and the plot
Tumblr media
Sorry, I mean the plot.
Tumblr media
SHIT, THE PLOT!
Tumblr media
You know what? Nah. I honestly do not give a fuck about the plot. Joong and Khao are hired killers. First is out to get them. Dunk gets involved (although, I think he knows a lot more than he leads on), and . . .
All will end well.
Tumblr media
Because if anything, Jojo ain't never been allergic to a happy ending *wink*
So just know this show hit its target audience
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ME!
Tumblr media
¡Salud!

Whose POV is it Anyway?
A Conclusion.
DO NOT ASK NEIL ABOUT FAN THEORY
Okay. Well. That was more intense i'll say than I expected. There is a lot happening with these filters over these 6 episodes and it was a bit more detailed and harder to follow than I had originally expected but we got through it and I have more than a few final thoughts to wrap this up.
For reference & context, I recommend reading these posts:
Whose POV is it Anyway? - Introduction
POV "Your 'Something's Wrong' Voice"
POV a Trip to Hell and a 25 Lazarii Miracle
POV a Companion to Owls
POV The Dirty Donkey & I think I Found a *Clue*!
POV Bodysnatchers & Cosplaying a bookseller
POV 1941
POV The Ball
POV The End?
Lens Filters
Shall we conclude?
Tumblr media
So, if you remember back to my originally introductory post for this series, the thing that kicked off this entire analysis was a bit of commentary made by the cinematographer Gavin Finney in this article.
Finney Describes the Bronze Glimmerglass filter as being used for "bookshop scenes", the Black Pro Mist filter for "Hell", and Black Diffusion FX for "Crowley's Present Day Storyline". I still hate that wording.
Something in that zinged my brain just right and I launched into research about the cameras and these specific lens filters. Give that post a read seriously or none of this will make much sense. ANYWAY.
What I had decided for writing these posts, since we had two main characters, was that I was going to apply the Bronze Glimmerglass (BGG) filter to Aziraphale's POV, since it was mentioned it's applied to bookshop scenes and he's always there anyway, and the Black Diffusion FX (BDFX) filter to Crowley's POV, since well, that's what they said it is kinda.
Do I think it is as simple as, it is either Crowley or Aziraphale's POV? no.
It was a decent jumping off point though, and it was working really well for the first few episodes but once we got past the halfway mark of the season, the lines started to blur, and I think that is perfectly in line with our story.
The BGG filter is usually applied to scenes in the bookshop, featuring Aziraphale, or the record shop, sometimes the coffee shop when Maggie is being lovesick over Nina. We even see it in heaven during the Job minisode and its on THICK during the Whickber Street Ball. The BGG filter is romantic, idealistic, it's just that a filter. Looking at the world through rose colored glasses! Looking at the world likely how Aziraphale would like to see it.
The BDFX filter is cooler toned, more realistic, it's used in scenes with Shax and Crowley, and often Nina when Maggie isn't around because these characters are pragmatic. They aren't dreamers, they see things for the reality that they are.
Whenever Crowley shows up and says something snarky to Aziraphale to break him out of his fanciful delusions and insults him (affectionate), like the scene at the coffee shop, or the scene at the pub, the filter switches from BGG to BDFX. We're being broken out of the dream, brought back into the colder reality.
I think it makes sense to apply the filters to characters for a lot of the season because their actions fit in their characterization. Aziraphale is daydreamy BGG, Crowley is a realist BDFX. It just works. But then we start to add in the demons attacking The Ball and the offer from the Metatron and everything falls apart. The BGG filter is gone. The dream is gone. We're in cold reality, even in the bookshop where we are usually consistently in a dreamy state.
Even Crowley gets the dreamy effects of the BGG filter and of what-could-be peace & domesticity in the bookshop when Aziraphale is in Edinburgh and he's forced to just hang around and chill with Jim. I'm sure that type of life is all he wants with Aziraphale. Quiet, wearing his cardigan and carrying books around for his love.
I'm glad I wrote my opinions before that C & A were possibly imagining each other in the Edinburgh POV chapter so that theory can exist on the internet somewhere but I think this is more likely the case. The filters are more likely indicating to us what the wants dreams and desires of the characters are compared to the realities they see. What do they choose to see better? Worse?
What does this mean for the Final 15? It's simply reality, and neither of them want it.
I'd like to remind you dear reader that this is one opinion, of which there are many on this website, and plenty of them are worth reading and considering. I don't expect that I'm right. I expect that I'm wrong. In fact, I'll probably write another series of posts next month detailing precisely how everything here is completely backwards to how it ACTUALLY is! Well maybe not. That is to say, if you don't agree with this, that's cool, I might not either tomorrow, but wasn't it entertaining to read?

TWST Imagine #1
Imagine the students’ reactions to finding out you enjoy making fiber arts (weaving, sewing, embroidery, etc.).
Since Ace and Deuce spend the most time with you, they’re the first ones to discover your hobby.
The three of you were having lunch when the two boys realized that you hadn’t said a thing since they sat down to eat. Deuce looks over to ask what’s wrong and sees you hunched over in your seat, fiddling with something in your hands.
“What’ve you got there, (Name)? (Name)?”
You looked up and around, as if not realizing where you were, before smiling and showing him your hands. In one, you’re holding a very familiar sash of grey and white fabric. In the other, you’ve got a needle with some thread. And beside you lies a small sewing kit.
“Grim ripped his collar while trying to sneak out of class, so I figured I'd fix it up before it tears completely.”
Then you immediately go back to sewing. It’s a little jarring for them; seeing their usually blunt and sarcastic friend taking on such a dainty endeavor. But what’s even stranger is the amount of skill and concentration you’re investing in said endeavor. Your hands and eyes are moving with surgical precision, and the tray of food you brought has barely been touched. Ace wants to make some snide remark about how you, of all people, know how to sew, but he’s not even sure you’ll hear him. In hindsight, it’s probably for the best; you’re holding a needle in one hand and are within arm’s reach of scissors.
If Kalim finds out that you can make charms or trinkets, he’ll immediately ask you to make him one. Expect other students to follow soon after.
“So, how did I sound?”
“You were great!” you answer, stopping the recording.
Cater had run into you earlier that day and invited you to stop by the Light Music Club; to come listen to him play and give some feedback. This resulted in you becoming their impromptu cinematographer and filming his performance. Personally, you think that was his whole plan from the start, and he just wants a good video to put Magicam; not that you mind, either way. As you hand Cater back his phone, his eyes flick down to your wrist.
“Hey, that’s a pretty cool bracelet! Did you get that from the school store?”
“Oh this? Nah, this is just something I made in my spare time.”
“WHAT?!”
You practically jump into Cater’s arms, certain that half of the school could hear Kailm. The latter of the two runs over and takes your wrist in his hands. Despite practically bouncing with energy, he’s careful not to grab or pull too hard as he stares down at your wrist.
“You can make jewelry? That’s so cool!”
“I don’t know if I’d call it jewelry since it doesn’t use metal or, well, jewels.”
“That doesn’t matter. The fact that you can make something like this just goes to show how talented you are.”
You know Kalim’s just being a proverbial ball of sunshine because that’s how he is, but the compliment still makes you go a little pink.
“Thanks, I guess? I mean, I learned how to make friendship bracelets when I was a kid one Summer, so it just sort of stuck with me.”
“Friendship bracelets…” he parrots, like you just spoke in a foreign tongue. Then he smiles up at you. “Say, could you make me one? I mean, we are friends, after all!”
How can you say no to a request like that?
“Hah, of course, Kalim. Did you have a preferred color in mind?”
“Hmm, maybe something blue. Like a sky blue?”
“I’d prefer something in an emerald-green.”
“Gah!”
You swiftly turn to face Lilia, who’s standing right behind you. It comes as more of a surprise than it really should.
“What are you talking about?”
“Oh, I simply assumed the offer was open to all of us. We’re all friends here, are we not?”
He smiles back at you.
“If you want me to make you one, you can just ask. Cater?”
“Red and white, please!”
…And look forward to even more of them asking for you to fix their clothes
Knock-knock!
“Hang on a sec…”
You open the doors to Ramshackle and are greeted by the sight of Ruggie holding a small stack of hastily folded clothes.
“Again?”
“Yeah, things got a little out of hand during our last Magift practice. I already washed ‘em. D’ya think you can fix it?”
You take one of the shirts and examine the damage; just some unraveling along the seams, nothing longer than an inch.
“Yeah, I can take care of these no problem.”
Ruggie follows you into the lounge, closing the door behind him. He takes his usual spot on the couch and sets the clothes on the table, while you go to get your things. Perhaps he should stop by Sam’s next time and pick up some more supplies; you were starting to run low the last time he was over. A moment later, you’re back with your tools and are already at work fixing up the tears.
“You know, you don’t have to stay here and wait for me to finish; I can just text you when they’re done.”
“It’s fine. Besides, it gives me an excuse to not go run errands for Leona.”
“Aren’t you bored, though?”
“Nah, this is the only chance I get for downtime.”
You chuckle softly, finishing up one shirt before moving on to the next. It looks like you’ll just barely have enough thread to finish the job.
“Maybe you should start charging a fee to people for fixing their clothes.”
“You sound like Azul,”
“I’m just sayin'; if someone can afford to buy a new shirt, they can afford to pay for some thread. At least that way you’re not spending your own money.”
“Does that mean you’d be willing to cover the expenses?”
“Does it have to be my money?”
“Well how else do you plan to compensate me?”
“I could cook your meals?”
“Tempting, but I think I’d rather just take the money. Besides, didn’t you just say this is your downtime?”
You can’t help but laugh as his smile lessens just a little.
“Relax, I’m just kidding,”
“No, it’s fine. I was gonna buy you supplies anyways…”
“That’s good. Because I’m pretty sure this is the third time I’ve had to repair this exact tear in this exact spot on this exact shirt.”
“Huh, what a weird coincidence…”
While a lot of students will tease you, some of them admire the dedication you have to your craft.
You hold one end of the thread up and use your hand to cut it with your scissors. The snip could barely be heard over the sound of Idia furiously typing away at his computer.
At first you were shocked that Ortho had come to you, asking for help with something on Idia’s behalf. And you were even more confused when he all but dragged you to Ignihyde dorm, insisting that you had to come to his brother’s room and that there was no way he could bring ‘it’ to Ramshackle. But then Idia showed you a rather large demon-plushie with some torn seams and bits of stuffing poking out.
Yeah, no, that’s more than fair.
However, despite your respect for discretion and almost total silence, Idia was internally panicking. More so than usual. You’re with him. In his bedroom. And you’re handling one of his stuffed-imps. The only reason he hasn’t suffered a TKO is thanks to Ortho, who asked to watch you work.
If you were aware of the two brothers staring at you - one with pure curiosity and one in pure terror - you showed no sign of it. Instead, your attention was solely focused on the task at hand; at least you weren’t trying to talk to them. The minutes ticked by and Idia found himself looking less at his screens and more at you. And the longer he looked, the more things he began to notice. The way you smile when you pull the needle through, how your hands brush over the fabric as if trying to soothe an actual living thing, the slight movement of your fingers as you weave the needle in and out.
Once you’re done with one part, you pluck another thread from the spool, pulling more and more until you’ve drawn a length of string that goes from the tips of your fingers, down the length of your arm, and to your other hand. Still holding the thread in one hand, you grab the shears beside you, nest the thread between the two blades, and cut.
Snip!
And you continue working. Like the Fates from the age of Myth. Focused, graceful, confident.
His own little Fate…”
“Did you say something?”
“Ooh! What’s this thing for?” Ortho asks, pointing to a small metal tool beside you.
“Oh, I use that in case I need to split a seam,” you explain to him with a smile, “But it looks like I don’t have to use that this time,”
Thankfully, the school is somewhat lenient when it comes to customizing your uniforms...
“Hey, Deuce! Check it out!”
Epel’s eyes scan the sports field, making sure that no one was paying attention to him and the fellow first-year. Once the coast is clear, he unzips the top half of his uniform, just enough to hold out the right side of his jacket. It takes Deuce a moment to understand what he was supposed to be seeing, but then he notices a patch in the shape of a grinning skull lining the inside of Epel’s jacket.
“Woah!” he can’t help but be in awe, “When did you get that?!”
“You remember how we talked about getting designs put on our uniforms, right? I went to (Name) and actually did it!”
“That’s so cool! It’s like it’s staring right at me!”
“I know, right?! I wanted to go with the dragon, but (Name) said that something that detailed would be too big for a patch. And then Vil would inevitably see it and freak out.”
“That’s too bad. Still, it looks really impressive. Like, you open your jacket and people see that looking back at them.”
“Totally! Plus, it’s right over where the pocket is, so no one’ll know it’s there,”
“No one will know what’s there?”
The two boys jump before turning to see Pomfiore’s vice housewarden smiling down at them.
“Ah… Hello, Rook. I didn’t see you there.” Deuce smiles as he not-so-subtly stands in front of Epel, who’s fumbling with his zipper.
“My apologies,” the third-year began, “But I couldn’t help but notice the two of you talking and had to know what it was that ignited that spark in your eyes. So…”
He moved Deuce to the side and took a step towards Epel.
“You’re not hiding anything, are you? Epel?”
The younger boy’s eyes are looking everywhere except at the upperclassman.
“Um… I-”
“Rook!” All three of them look over to see Coach Vargas marching over to them. “You better not be hunting my students again!”
“Ah, je suis désolé,” Rook sighs, “I’m afraid I must depart. How tragic, if only that I could stay a little while longer.”
He starts to walk away, but pauses and turns back to them with a smile.
“And rest assured, I will not breathe a word of this to Vil. Adieu, mon ami!”
Deuce and Epel watch Rook leave, only relaxing once he’s completely out of sight.
“...I’m glad you didn’t get the dragon.”
“Me too.”
…Because the teachers have noticed some of their students looking a little more colorful lately.

I hate to be a hater, frankly I was really annoyed by haters of the kenobi show, whom I found were being mad at the most random things,
But with the Ahsoka show ending, I find myself sympathising.
Firstly I'd like to say the Actors, cinematographers, cgi artists, sound designers, musicians, costumers and literally everyone in post and pre production, did some of the best work I've ever seen on a show.
But unfortunately they were working on a script thinner than the paper it's on.
This series feels like the first draft that has glaring flaws.
Firstly, why are the two premises :Ahsoka grows from her trauma; and the ghost crew find ezra and thrawn linked?
They barely interacted in rebels and the only one she had a relationship with is dead (rip Caleb)
Secondly why the fuck is sabine a jedi, it took away from her character and just repeated the same arc we've seen a thousand times.
And most importantly theres already so many deep stories you can tell with any of the ghost crew w/o Ahsoka in this era like:
A grieving war hero general trying to navigate new Republic beuracracy to protect people while being a single mom to a force sensitive kid in a dangerous galaxy.
A guilt ridden mandalorian artist, who's secluded herself from the galaxy trying to complete a fools errand while running away from her past in which she inadvertently lead mandalore to its doom.
A once-lost lasat from his people and a repentant ex-imperial who almost destroyed said people and trying to make his way in that society while possibly falling in love
A Grand Admiral who always had relied on cold logic landing on a planet of witchcraft, with a boy who had defeated him through devilry which caused the boy to lose both his families just to protect his people and a chance to save the Galaxy from the admirals misplaced alliegences.
Like tell me all these stories couldn't have been told amazingly, with love and care, in an animated show, which wasn't wrapped up in the story of an unrelated character who's the main character for some reason.
Heck Ahsoka could've been given a better story herself where the plot could focus just on her and her important relationships with you know, Rex or Barriss?? Not just Anakin. And maybe tell us where she was in the original trilogy.

This is not a shipping thing.
This is a common sense, look at the facts thing.
I realize we've had issues in season one with people BTS at Loki, not communicating with each other. One saying one thing, one implying another.
But you cannot have the EP of the series quoted as saying Loki cares more about Mobius than *anyone*, then expect the portion of the audience that paid attention during season two, to believe that if Loki is in love (and the series cinematographer says Loki is), that the person they're in love with is Sylvie.
Because that would be a contradiction. Or not much of a love story. Like "hey Sylvie, I love you, but I care about Mobius more".
So it's a natural progression that it must be Mobius. Because what kind of show emphasizes that Mobius means the most, then emphasize Loki is in love, but not with the person who means the most ??
That's messed up, especially when they know how the fans analyze everything. "Everything is intentional".
Which means giving Sylki several moments they could admit feelings and didn't, was intentional.
Having Mobius being shown as the most upset over Loki, having the final shot of the show being Loki listening to Mobius. Having Sylvie be like "see ya", all intentional.
And if it turns out some of us have misinterpreted the "Loki's in love" thing, you've still got a poorly constructed stinkball of the EP basically admitting Mobius is first, no matter what.

(Putting this in a separate post because I sort of scattered my thoughts across two different posts last night.)
So by now we've all probably seen the Ask that Neil answered saying that the kissing scene in GO 2 required only one take. There were a couple of things that came to my mind when I read this, and perhaps the most immediate was that the OP asked how many times the scene had to be filmed, and that means the scene entire--the confession, the pleading, everything--not necessarily just the kiss itself. To that end, I wonder how Neil was answering--i.e., referring to the entire scene, or just the kiss. Because as it stands, the question (and answer) are a bit ambiguous/confusing, and lend themselves to greater discussion.
Assuming that this is all true, however, and that the kiss/scene was filmed in one take (though I'm not sure I believe this was actually the case, given the multitude of camera angles and other cinematographic necessities), I'd like to share a few thoughts. I keep seeing people say that Michael and David are actors, consummate professionals, and how could one underestimate their abilities so as to think they would need more than one take. The thing is, we do know that they are actors. Two of the finest this world has ever seen, even. But it is also abundantly clear that if the kiss was achieved in one take, it was not simply because they are actors, but because it was Michael and David. Together.
To stand across from someone and give/react to such an emotional performance involves so much intimacy and trust, in a way not many of us can understand. If we draw a comparison to OFMD, Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi talked about their kiss in season 1 being awkward, even though they have been friends for a long time. Michael and David, by contrast, have been close friends (if not more) for only a few years, yet there was not a moment's hesitation in that kiss. David, who was nearly blind in that scene from the combination of contact lenses and sunglasses, found his way to Michael's lips with a practiced ease, an approach borne of both skill and familiarity. And Michael trusted David so fully in that moment--trusted him enough to be vulnerable, to let himself be kissed and give up control to David.
The gasp when their mouths met. The hands coming to rest on David's back. The way Michael seemingly leans up partway through, leans into David while expertly conveying the myriad of emotions Aziraphale is experiencing. Could it all have been done in one take? Perhaps. But that still doesn't mean there wasn't more to it. The accumulation of so much that had built between Michael and David over the intervening years between season 1 and season 2, further adding to their already incredible on-screen chemistry. All there for us to see, to make us want more. To make us ache.
Whatever the case may be--whether the kiss truly was accomplished in one take, or was the result of countless rehearsals between Michael and David in the days/weeks/months beforehand (be it at the S2 table read, while working on scene blocking, or the two of them "rehearsing" on their own) we are beyond fortunate to have witnessed something so precious and rare. And hopefully we'll soon get to hear Michael and David themselves telling us all about what it was like...

Buddie 606 meta
This meta is about Buddie, but please let me state how much I love Henren. I adore this ship, I can’t even explain how much as a queer person myself, and this ep dedicated to them was fantastic. It did them justice. And I have to take a sec to point out how much this isn’t to be taken for granted. They are a couple of older gay women of color, four identities that have been largely marginalized in TV land. A lot of shows would barely include them, let alone dedicate a whole ep to them, trusting that the audience will love and embrace it. More than that, they allowed Henren to be sexual, too. This is such an important choice when it would have been easier to show every other wonderful moment between them, but keep them sanitized for the viewers who are less accepting. This is why I have so much faith in 911. I guess that’s also why I believe in the show when it comes to Buddie, that it can be brave enough to let them become canon. ~~
Tumblr media
Speaking of Henren’s sexy times (I can’t emphasize enough how much I loved it, kudos to the gay musical choice), when Karen said to Hen, “I don’t have to be serious,” it hit me that she’s saying it with the exact same sort of playful intonation while taking a step in Hen's direction that Buck used when he uttered at Eddie that oh so suggestive, “You wanna go for the title?” in 309 while getting physically closer (kitchen scene, my ‘no het explanation’ beloved). ~~
Tumblr media
I loved that Henren’s story does not begin smoothly, they start out antagonistic. Karen has that “are you even worth my time?” attitude, while Hen’s very blunt about calling her out. But the confrontation is full of that sexual tension of two people who, while riled up by the other person, they also realize they have met their match, someone who intrigues and attracts them, challenges them and can help them better themselves, so they very quickly move past the initial friction. Tell me that’s not Buddie in 201, giving each other attitude only to swear eternal loyalty as battlefield boyfriends before the ep's over. Enemies to soulmates who will choose each other again and again, through thick and thin, is why we (in addition to Buddie and Henren) are the ones who never really stood a chance. ~~
Then we have the fact that in both cases, someone from the team was responsible for the match. Chim was very blunt about it with Henren (our short KING!) and I know that Bobby-the-matchmaker is not canon, but it’s hovering so close to that. You can see it in the way Bobby watches Buck’s reaction to Eddie in 201, in the way he pushes them towards each other during that ep, and of course in that classic moment when he “presides” over Buddie’s union when the match proves to be a success (as I tried to show in my humor edit, in cinematographic terms, that moment was staged to look very similar to a wedding, the couple exchanging vows with an officiant in the background, a staging sometimes used to implicitly point to a ship not yet recognizing their own feelings/commitment for each other). It becomes even more of a parallel if you consider that in both cases, the “matchmaker” brings in a newcomer to make things better precisely when a member of the 118 they’re close to has to deal with letting go of a romantic relationship that ended up toxic... ~~
Tumblr media
I wrote in my 605 meta that the Henren and Buddie parallels were already on in that ep, and I expected to see lots more this week, but I gotta admit, I thought it would be mainly between Henren’s call vs Buddie during the shooting arc in 413 and 414. So you can already tell I was surprised by how much broader the parallels were. Another one I did not anticipate was Karen’s aggravated reaction to Hen doing the decent thing (hearing Eva out regarding Denny) and how similar it was to Eddie’s reaction over Abby re-appearing in 318 (Buck doing the decent thing and helping her with her new fiance). If you ask me, jealously worried Eddie is confirmed real through this parallel (this is the one gif I made for this post myself, ‘coz I am a dumbass who forgot to type this when I was sending my meta gif requests). ~~
Everything about the call at the lab was exquisite, even the way it kicked off, with Bobby as the voice of the 118 reassuring Hen they will get her wife back to her. It's so much like the scene in 315 where the team had to reassure Buck that they're not giving up on Eddie and that they will save him. *quietly hyperventilates because what even is this parallel* ~~
Tumblr media
Don’t get me started on Hen having to watch as Karen collapsed after coming out of the building. Like I said, I knew we’d probably be looking at a lot of parallels with the shooting story arc, but SERIOUSLY. 911, this was SO rude of you. Each one of these scenes separately just ripped my heart out, but the parallel also did me in, ‘coz it emphasized the fact that when Buck is the one to witness Eddie collapsing there, it’s because the show knows it has the same impact as for Hen to watch her (legally married!) romantic partner and co-parent to her child going through the same thing. The insane thing is Eddie officially had a romantic partner at the time! Someone who was supposed to occupy the closest space in his life to what Karen is to Hen, and yet 911 still chose to have Buck there, punching us all collectively in our guts as he watched in muted horror the love of his life collapsing. Utter, gay madness. ~~
Tumblr media
Not only did Hen have to watch Karen collapse, she also had to try and revive her, which is so very similar to what Buck had to do for Eddie after physically getting him out of the line of fire in 414. It’s that mixture of love and desperation and hope and teetering on the edge of despair for me that makes the ambulance scenes in both of these storylines so poignant, and the parallel impossible to ignore. ~~
Tumblr media
We also have the fact that when Hen watches Karen being carried into the hospital on a gurney, much like Buck watched Eddie being taken in during 414, the next moment when she knows Karen is more or less safe, she can barely hold herself up without help. It’s that combined exhaustion from everything she did to save her loved one, and relief, and the deeply terrifying realization of what was so close to be, all of these suddenly released together into her bloodstream become too much. So Bobby and Chim have to help and physically support her. This just came and slapped me across my face (911 really chose violence this ep, didn’t they?) because it’s exactly how Buck reacted in 303, when he sees Chris safe in Eddie’s arms, and he can’t take everything he’s feeling in that moment, so he has to be physically supported by Bobby and Hen… ~~
Tumblr media
Karen refusing to leave when she was supposed to reminded me of Eddie doing the same by cutting his own cord in order to continue helping in 315. I was ready for the shooting arc parallels, I was not for the Eddie Begins ones and my insides are decimated. To be technical, this also parallels David refusing to leave the operation room in 508, subtly linking all the stubborn gays risking themselves when they’re not supposed to while their partners are nearby, yet separated from them and going insane with worry. ~~
Tumblr media
I mentioned Henren parallels Buddie in both the shooting arc and Eddie Begins, and nowhere is it more evident IMO than in that moment when Chim lies to Karen, telling her Hen had died, and for one terrible moment, she believes it and you can see her whole world is shaken up and close to imploding. This feels so much like Buck’s reaction in both those storylines, when for a moment there he has to consider that maybe he lost Eddie for good, and the look he gets of utter disbelief, on the verge of devastation, is so like Karen’s. ~~
Tumblr media
But if that’s not enough, we also have another theme that connects the three storylines, the one about how an event like that can make people recognize what matters in their lives and consolidate what their dreams are, or in other words, what’s the family that they fight for, which they now fully embrace. For Karen, thinking she lost Hen made helped her accept Denny into their lives, while Eddie, who realized in 315 that he’s fighting to come back to his family, and that Buck IS a huge part of that family, together with Chris, decided to change his will to make them all legally bound together, a fact he discloses to Buck in 414, as the conclusion to the shooting arc. ~~
Tumblr media
Something that further reinforces the family-consolidation parallels between the two eps is Karen telling Hen she has to go be with Denny because he comes first, just like Buck stayed with Chris in 414. And again Ana, the actual gf, is right there, but it’s Buck who’s taking care of what matters the most to Eddie, what constitutes his heart: his son. ~~
I have to mention that moment at the hospital where Buck was asking about living without a spleen. With all of his experience as a firefighter responding to many medical emergencies, as well as his love of bizarre trivia including from the anatomical realm, I’m sure he knew the answer to that. What he’s really asking for is reassurance that Karen will be okay. Eddie picks up on that and offers precisely that, which is not just ridiculously tender, it’s also so domestic that it’s their connection that brings about that comfort. ~~
Tumblr media
Lastly, the conclusion of this ep parallels Henren and Buddie as well. Hen’s insight from this experience of helping her significant other during a call is that the job she should be doing, that she was born to do, is be a paramedic with the 118. That’s also exactly Eddie’s conclusion in 511, after he helps Buck during a call. Even when he wasn’t physically there, even when it wasn’t Buck’s own life on the line, simply helping Buck on a dangerous call reminded Eddie of where he wanted to be. With his battlefield boyfriend. Canon “Buddie Begins” when, 911?

Taking a closer look at Vegas's secret room and his decorating tastes.
First off, the password to get inside is '696969', because of course it is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The creaky secret wall panel door is very Scooby Doo.
Then we have the table:
Tumblr media
There's a lot to explore in the tangle of religion, punishment, sex, and the macabre here. Vegas being into knifeplay should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. "The Descent of Man" may be on the nose, but that's consistent for Khun Vegas "Childhood's End" Theerapanyakul. The Halloween-store plastic skull is...a choice. There's gotta be a story there, right? It looks like a kids' toy. He has a much more realistic fake skull sitting on his desk.
(EDIT: two important additions to Vegas's kink collection! @saurons-fat-rack pointed out that the plastic skull is probably a skull candle, which is just as much a choice as a plastic skull tbh, and @redcole noticed a hogtie clip at the base of the Santa Muerte figurine.)
Here's a wider shot of the room:
Tumblr media
Vegas has a distinct preference for muted tones and old-fashioned furniture. Why the floor globe? Who knows. The monster portrait has been discussed here. Along with the monster looming over the desk, the net chandelier contributes to the feeling of Vegas being trapped even in his private spaces. Stained glass fits into the religious motif. Please take a moment to imagine Vegas standing on a ladder, carefully putting up his basic-ass red/green/yellow/blue stained glass window decals.
Next, the BDSM rack in the corner:
Tumblr media
Not much to add here except that the mirror from 4 is not present during Pete's visit. The Doylist explanation is that the cinematographer didn't want a Pete reflection in this scene. The Watsonian explanation is that Vegas put the mirror there in 4 specifically for his naked demon moment. Really adds to the cool-aesthetic-until-you-think-about-how-much-time-he-spent-lighting-those-candles vibe.
Finally, the desk:
Tumblr media
Does Vegas have an unexplored bird thing going on? Two birds on this desk, one on the table, and a bird cage for his hedgehog. Could be part of the freedom/captivity theme, since small birds are explicitly connected to freedom in-show.
(Edit: @redcole says that the desk bird beside the skull is also a candle. Vegas likes having multiple options available for his mood lighting/hedonistic rituals/waxplay...)
Given that Pete's home aesthetic begins and ends with tacking up gun and target posters all over the walls, I think Vegas is going to wind up with much more say in decorating whatever space they end up sharing. The results are sure to be bizarre.

Chapter 3 - One call away is not close enough
A call two years later changed everything.
Your career…
Your personal life as well.
You were fast asleep when the phone rang. Jaehyun’s name on the screen made you alert, is he alright? Did something happen?
Laying your back on the headboard you answered the call.
“Hi” he said using a normal tone. That made you a little less worried.
“Jaehyun, is something wrong?”
“Oh, no… I’m sorry… I didn’t check the time difference. I should have called another-
“Jae…spill, what’s the gossip, huh?”
He let out a little laugh since the gossip thing that a old joke between you two.
“No gossip, but I do have something.”
“Clearly, it’s something good or you wouldn’t be calling on impulse, spill, Jaehyun.”
“Yeah right…” He hesitated a bit coughing a bit, his telltale sign that he was nervous.
“I got sent this script for a movie, they want me as the main character…” He hesitated again which made you ask.
“Jeong Jaehyun, what did you do?”
“I sent a copy of the script to your mailbox.”
You could feel your sleepiness vanishing as you started to scold him.
“Jaehyun, are you nuts? You can’t ship stuff like this in the mail! What if gets – “
"It got delivered today." He interrupted, making you stop your thinking.
Scrambling for a thought since he didn’t elaborate, you asked.
"What the hell am I supposed to do with it?! I’m not a male actor, Jung."
"Read, dummy, read."
"And do what?"
"Tell me if you want it."
You opened your mouth to be obnoxious, pointing out the obvious, but Jaehyun must have listened to your 'I’m about to give you an earful' breath and went first.
"Listen, it’s an amazing script, just like the ones you used to want to work on. There’s an opening for a cinematographer, and I know you’re a hell of a good one, so if you want, it’s yours." He said in one breath, probably afraid you would interrupt again.
But from all he said, this part really got you confused.
"What do you mean it’s mine?"
"I showed the director your profile and portfolio, and he said yes."
"Fuck, Jaehyun." You didn’t know what to say since he was never one to interfere in your personal life since the D word.
"You’re sleepy, and I know how grumpy you can be at this hour, so… I still must tell you two more things, the job is in the states, probably 3-4 months of filming, and I am supposed to give an answer on the male character in 48 hours. We would have to work together, and we would probably have to strike a deal with my parents since we can’t pull Junnie out of school, so…"
You understood what he said, but you needed at least a cup of coffee to process it. But before you could say anything, he went off again.
"I can give it up if you want." He said almost like a whisper.
"Give what up?"
"The character."
"You didn’t like it?"
"No, but –
You interrupted again.
"So, if you do like it, why would you give it up?" It made no sense to you.
"For you –"
It still didn’t make sense why he would give it up.
"Give it up for ME?"
"I like it, Y/N, but this script has you written all over it… and I don’t want to make you uncomfortable by being there."
Now you got him, yet he was about the last person in this world who could make you uncomfortable.
"Yuno…" You said in a softer tone.
You heard his breath and a soft "yeah?"
"I don’t hate you." You stated in your most soft yet firm tone, it was one of the things he must not forget about you two.
"I know, Y/N, I know."
"I am going to read it and think about what you said, ok? Don’t do anything hasty."
"Ok, I will let you go back to sleep."
"I’m not sleeping after all this, you know right?" You said, letting out a small huff.
"I know."
"What I am about to do is getting up, making some coffee and grabbing the script out of my mailbox, does it sound good to you?" You were being just a bit playful.
"It does, love."
That word made you warm like butter melting on a frying pan. Still, that wasn’t something out of the ordinary for him to call you. So, you let it slide.
"Well, for sure it’s better than staying in bed tossing and turning."
He let out a small giggle, he knew you were one of those to fight a lot with your bed at night.
"Good morning, love."
"Good afternoon to you?" You didn’t know what time zone he was on, so you tried.
"Try again." He said with a smiling voice.
"Good night!" You said like you had guessed the lottery numbers.
He let out a giggle sound and said, "Give little Nari 1000 kisses from me, will you?”
"Why just a thousand?" You said with a little pout as if he could see.
You could hear his playful tone in reply.
"Don’t you know our daughter? She might ask for in real life a thousand kisses; since you are the closest parent, you might fall victim to it, so I think that’s a great number for kisses."
You both giggled, Jung Nari, the lily to our garden, was at that phase where hyperbole would be a tough concept for her to grasp.
"Ok, fine." You agreed still giggling.
"I will call… stay safe."
"You too, Jaehyun."
With that you decided to get up put some warm clothes, while the coffee maker did her job, you went downstairs to get the script from your mailbox.
When the coffee was ready you got back to your room and pulled the curtains up letting a little of the city lights get into your room. Turning on your lamp you seated yourself on your favorite chair.
The script was big, over 200 pages, there was no way you would finish it before Nari would wake up, but when you reached page 50 you decided it was okay to close it.
Jaehyun was right, it was exactly the type of script you wanted to work with. You were deeply touched he even remembered you talking about it…
-----
“I believe in you.”
“You do?” You asked raising your head from Jaehyun’s chest so you could look at his eyes. “I don’t think I can do it, I think it’s too late”.
He was already shaking his head even before you could finish.
“It’s not late, if you want to change careers you know what to do, I don’t doubt for a second, you’ll get there.”
You were deeply touched by his words. It’s not like you thought he wouldn’t be supportive, you just never imagined needing to hear his genuine tone, the way he looked into your eyes ensuring you could perceive every feeling he conveyed.
Raising your head a little, you gave him a kiss. It was a sweet ‘thank you’ one.
When you disconnected and snuggled even more close to him on the couch, using your leg over his hips to feel every part of you against his comfortable warm body.
“So, I’m curious, if you could pick a type of movie to work on, what it would be like?”
“An 80’s movie for sure.”
“Why baby?”
“Well, you know they are my favorites, the whole boombox thing outside a girls window it's a classic, I also like Ten Reasons Why I Hate You, I love the whole enemies to lovers it’s an amazing plot if done right.”
“I don’t think you can work on movies like enemies to lovers, you might get a crush on Heath Ledger and I could lose my wife.”
You smacked the upper part of his butt for the almost funny insult.
“I do not have a crush on Heath Ledger!”
“Oh yeah babe, you do, you have all his movies.”
“Yes! Because he was an amazing actor!”
“Are you sure he’s not handsome?”
“No!”
“You literally drool when he is on screen baby…”
“Fine! That’s just because he has dimples!”
“Oh, I knew it!”
“You have dimples too, so shut it, Jae.”
“Oh, you’re soo nervous, you’re-
You stopped his sentence with a kiss. A warm one this time, you were trying to make a point so he would forget about stupid cute Heath Ledger and just kiss you dumb.
It took only a few seconds to feel his tongue invade your mouth, playing with yours, his hand that was on your lower back traveled to your butt check and he pressed your body even closer to his.
You moaned, his cock pressing very close to where you needed him, he lowered his lips to your neck. Using your hand, you guided his head to the spot you needed him, your fingers right over one of the dimples you loved so much.
“Yuno…I don’t like other man’s dimples, I just like yours…” You said between breaths.
Against your neck he let out a small laugh.
“Yeah baby, how much?”
“I like it so fucking much I want you to pass it on to our kids.”
“Oh, kids.”
“Yes, kids.” You also replied with your body undulating against his, all tingly with excitement.
He left your neck to tease your lips with his.
“Plural. Interesting.”
You just nodded pleading with your eyes for him to kiss you fully.
“So, you like the idea of babies…
“Not really the point.”
“So, what is the point?” He kissed you a little harder for a few seconds but pulled away again.
“I like trying to make babies with you so much, I know one day I’m going to go insane and tell you to forget the condoms.”
“Or maybe one day I will fuck you so hard and soo good the condom would break.” He completed.
“That’s exactly my point. Now stop being a tease.”
He laughed but finally went back to kissing you.
------
You shook your head so the memory would go away, Jaehyun was the love of your life, your already happy ending was Nari.
But you missed your best friend.
He had a strange sense of humor, was calm and knew what to say every time you needed him.
You missed him so much, so that’s how you convinced yourself to accept the script. Maybe it was a way you could also be close to your best friend again.

10 Anticipated BLs for 2024
Since I'm excited for ALL the GLs (Pluto, 23.5, Sunshine in the Wind, Chaser Game, Be Mine, y todo!), I'm making my list of the 10 BLs I'm excited for this year with brief reasons why I'm looking forward to them. In my normal fashion, I cheat my way into having more. All except one is Thai because Thailand loves to tease series three years in advance, then never make them, but I strongly believe these are coming:
The Next Prince
Tumblr media
Zee continues to never play a poor person, and a trailer is supposed to drop in the first quarter of this year. I never knew there was so many fencers on BL Tumblr, so I'm looking forward to everyone's commentary on how well the characters poke with their sticks or whatever fencers do.
Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart
Tumblr media
It's a heist BL. It has YinWar. It has Prom x Mark. It has Bonz. It's Dee Hup House (we got beef). It's Director Tee and probably Cinematographer Jim. It might have color coding. There is not one thing I can find wrong with this series. It's perfect on paper, and I'm praying that translates well to the screen.
Spare Me Your Mercy
Tumblr media
Like that lady in Titanic, I've been waiting 80 years for this series (give me a minute to cry about MaxTul), and it's finally near! I'm getting JJ & Tor in a Dr. Sammon piece, who I feel writes "Be Gay, Do Crime" very well, so I'll be forgiving any of these two gays' wrongs including murder, attempted murder, contemplating murder, and murdering each other in the bedroom (ahhhh!).
Wandee Goodday
Tumblr media
Golf from The Eclipse is directing. It's about Muay Thai. It has an older doctor and a younger boxer who start off as bed friends (and I think one is actually a virgin). It has color coding. It has me already seated and waiting with popcorn, and I think it might be the first offering that will be delivered from GMMTV's 2024 lineup.
Sequels: Choco Milk Shake 2, Unintentional Love Story 2, My Doctor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is Choco Milk Shake 2 gonna finally give me poly? Probably not, but I hope My Doctor brings the same heat the side couple did in Be Mine, Superstar, and the side couple getting the spotlight in Unintentional Love Story 2 will also make my side-couple-supremacy heart very happy this year.
Live in Love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks color coded. That's it. That's the reason. Keeping my expectations low because it might not get made since this is Thailand's favorite game.
Red Peafowl
Tumblr media
The character reveals were absolute chaos, so I'm hoping that chaos transfers over to the actual series because it can either be a mess or a masterpiece, but it cannot be mediocre with Max, Cooheart, Boun, Mek, and Yacht as supports. Plus, it has color coding and a bird that is quickly becoming a Tumblr god.
Love Upon a Time
Tumblr media
Even though it is a historical queer series, which means it could be sad, I think Domundi will keep the sass, so James' character won't be crying in the 1600s club but instead eating fruit seductively to encourage Net's character to put his homosexual skills into practice instead of simply theorizing about them, which is something I need more of. Plus, it has color coding.
Love Puzzle
Tumblr media
This is one that might not get made because . . . Thailand. It's connected to Chains of Heart, but I don't care because the cast looks good and Poppy is gonna finally get to kiss a homie. If this doesn't get made, I will cry thug tears. It's 2024. Poppy deserves to kiss a man already.
My Stand-In
Tumblr media
I don't understand the plot, but it doesn't matter because Pepzi and Khom are directing, and in case that means nothing, those were KinnPorsche's directors! Then, it has Up and Poom as the leads, plus a stacked supporting cast. I'm here. I'm queer. And I'm ready to be served.
Honorable Mention: Peaceful Property
Tumblr media
It's about los espookys and features Tay and New. Will it be a QL? The streets are saying no, but all the characters are color coded, and all's I'm saying is what would be the point of color coding them if I ain't getting a BL main couple and a GL side couple? It's already canon to me.
Bonus: MosBank & JoongDunk
Tumblr media
MosBank had like eighty projects announced for 2023, and I got NONE! Big Dragon 2, Big Dragon: The Movie, SunsetxVibes, where you at?! Y Journey: Stay Like a Local and Club Friday do not count. I don't want to watch their horror movie, but gosh darnit, if that comes out before everything else, I just might.
Tumblr media
And I am a JoongDunk fan first, and a human second. Give my boys a gym BL already, GMMTV!

I've been rewatching since I read your Crepes post and I feel like I'm seeing so much more in the language. Can I have a spoiler for future metas? :)
Hi there! Nice of you to say but I'm just highlighting their linguistic brilliance here. *offers coffee and chocolate chip cookies go to along with spoiler*
One thing we've looked at is Crowley & Aziraphale using words that have two or more layers of contradicting meaning-- like 'smitten', 'wily' and 'thwart', right? They also have a thing for words that are phonetically close but not the same and/or words or phrases that are frequently confused. One thing to listen to for is when they use a word in a way where another, similar word or phrase often associated with or mixed up with it might give what they're saying a different meaning. To see where they're going with it, you need to know what both words or phrases mean and look at the contrasts between them. These will be in future metas but if you're rewatching, these might be fun to consider as you see the scenes again.
Some examples to listen for:
God saying Pavlovian reactions vs. responses in the scene in which she gives a four sentence long masterclass in Ineffable Husbands Speak to introduce Crowley & Aziraphale in the modern era [1.01 St. James Park scene]
cinematographic vs. cinematic [1.01 St. James Park scene]
to founder vs. to flounder [S1-- Seeds of Destruction scene]
to get a wiggle on vs. to get a wriggle on [S1-- Discorporated!Aziraphale scene] and what it means that Aziraphale chooses the one he does in this scene when he's lacking a body
wrath vs. wroth (which is also, for some insane reason lol, how you pronounce 'wrath' with a moneyed British accent like Crowley's-- which he is amping up in this moment intentionally-- but is technically a separate word, which is part of the innuendo Crowley is going for in this moment) [GO: Lockdown]
stew vs. soup [S1-- drunk in the bookshop, same scene as below]
whoop vs. whoomp
Tumblr media
the gorillas, they say, like, whoop! vs. the party people in da house lol, they say...

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Let's start with Izzy's death. Did you always plan to kill Izzy off this season?
DAVID JENKINS: Yes. It feels like the logical end of Izzy's arc. It's heartbreaking to me because he's my favorite. They're all my favorite because they're all my kids, but Izzy is very near and dear to my heart. The season was kind of built around [the idea of]: What's the best journey we can give him? And what's the most interesting thing we can do with Con, who can do just about anything?
How did Con react when you laid out Izzy's storyline this season?
I told him in the middle of shooting because I didn't want him to find out at the table read, obviously. I also didn't want it to leak. He was lovely about it. I called him and said, "Let's get a bite to eat," and he said, "I'll need cake!" We had dinner, and I gave him a cuddle, and he took it pretty well.
A lot of these characters have evolved over two seasons, but it seems like Izzy has gone through one of the biggest evolutions. He went from being so dismissive of the others to being a key part of the crew. What interested you most about his arc?
You know, I didn't expect him to become kind of a father figure to Ed. I think we hit on that while we were breaking the [final] episode. He's in such a weird position: He's like a jilted lover, and then he's a middle manager who has to work for a terrible boss. He gets thrown away, and then he comes back. He really develops, and he becomes a part of this family. I think the biggest surprise was the extent that he was a mentor to Ed. They were both Blackbeard. They both made Blackbeard happen.
What do you remember most about filming Izzy's death scene?
That was one of the last things we shot. As we got closer and closer to it, I could see it weighing on Con. It's hard: This is something we both made together, and his character is gonna die. He was taking it really seriously. Then, when we were shooting, I made him a playlist. I asked if I could play him some music, and I did, and we sat there and we watched Izzy die.
I also wanted to ask about the scene where Ed and Stede reunite on the beach, fighting their way back to each other through hordes of soldiers. How did you want to approach that sequence?
We have a wonderful fight and stunt coordinator, Jacob Tomuri, and [director] Fernando Frias laid out how he wanted to shoot it with [cinematographer] Mike Berlucchi. With this show, we're basically making a one-hour show on a half-hour budget and schedule, so we really have to pick our shots. But the location was just unreal. Everything in New Zealand just looks amazing. We were driving to a different location to scout the lake where Blackbeard tries to be a fisherman, and it was like, "What is this?" It was this giant black sand dune that seems to go on for miles. We were like, "Oh, we have to do something here."
The episode ultimately ends with a happy ending for Ed and Stede: They're starting an inn together on land as their friends sail off to new adventures. Walk me through why you wanted to give these two a happy ending.
With this season starting so dark, I kind of wanted to reward them for the work that they've done and the character growth that they've had. I wanted to leave them in a place where they're really going to try and make this work. I don't think it's going to be easy for them, necessarily. They're both still immature. But after the death of Izzy, we have a wedding, and it feels like we have the kids taking the car, driving off while the parents watch from the porch. It felt right to give them something to balance the loss of Izzy, where neither of them is going to run. They're both saying they're going to commit to each other, and it felt like the best place to leave them this season.
That makes sense. So much of their story has been about running away: Stede running away from his family, them running away from each other. This is them deciding not to run away.
And I don't think it's going to be easy. I think the day after that scene would be very hard. But they can try.
You mentioned the wedding between Lucius and Black Pete. I know that pirate weddings and civil partnerships were a real thing from history. Why did you want to end on that moment?
We knew we wanted a matelotage in the second season, and pretty quickly we landed on Lucius and Black Pete. It seems like they were ready for that. We made up a ceremony and everything, where they call each other mateys, and it was just fun to make our own version of a pirate wedding ceremony. But they really did have this phrase "matelotage." It was a formal process for relationships between crew members. It just seemed very sweet to see that they wanted to take that step together.
Last season ended on a cliffhanger, but this season ends pretty neatly, tying up a lot of loose threads. This could work as a series finale. Do you know if the show is getting a season 3, and are you already thinking about where this story could go next?
I mean, we'll see. We'll see if it makes sense for them to make a third one. We have a lot of ideas for a third season, and there's a lot more story to tell. But if it's not in the cards, I just wanted to leave Ed and Blackbeard in a good place. Instead of seeing them get punished for following each other, I wanted to see a moment where they're alright. And it is just a moment: I think a relationship is going to take a lot of work for them.
But it felt like a good place to end the second season. It felt like a contrast to the first season. If it turns out we don't make any more, I'm comfortable with that being a resting place.
You're leaving the door open for more — but if this the end, you're okay with that.
I mean, the Revenge is now being captained by Frenchie, and I think Frenchie's Revenge would be an interesting place to work and an interesting ship to be boarded by. And Ed and Stede, they're in the early 30s part of their relationship. Emotionally, they're going to move in together and start a business. I think there's a whole other story to tell about what happens when that relationship gets more mature. How do you make that relationship work? It's not just happily ever after. You have to work at it. And that's a story I'd like to see.

NMTDaily: Hero and Ursula’s Transmedia Accounts Debut
- I don’t think I ever knew that Hero had a transmedia Instagram account. That’s new to me! I’m excited to see what else she posts on it throughout the series.
- I do remember Ursula’s tumblr but I don’t know if I ever scrolled back enough to see the photos in the most recent email before. It’s extremely cute that she includes links to follow “My Friend Hero”, “My Friend Bea”, and “My Friend Ben”. She’s a sweetheart. Ursula deserves the world and so much more appreciation.
- It’s also really interesting that she considers herself friends with Ben before the events of the series happen to combine the two halves of the friend group. It’s probably because she’s best friends with Balthazar and he’s the crossover friend who is close friends with both the girls’ group and the boys’ group. I think it’s very possible that Ben doesn’t fully realize that Ursula thinks of him as a friend and not just an acquaintance because she’s so quiet and it can be hard to know what she’s thinking. Now I’m really interested in what their friendship would be like. They probably wouldn’t hang out one on one, but they would enjoy each other and never quite know how to tell each other that. Which is definitely a type of high school friend experience people have that rings true to me. All from the tiny detail of her linking to his channel on her tumblr. I wonder if he links to her channel on his? I bet he does, I have to look out for that.
- Update: oh my god I just scrolled through Ursula’s tumblr and saw that she posted Ben’s first vlog and mentioned in the tags that she helped him edit it! He “tried to do everything himself” and almost managed it, apparently. That says to me that he was probably complaining about how hard editing was, and Ursula offered to help. And I checked, he thanked her in the video description on that vlog. Ben and Ursula canonically hang out and edit his first video just the two of them???? Excuse me, this changes so many things. I am now obsessed with the Ben and Ursula friendship. This is definitely, for Ben, an example of that thing where social anxiety makes you kind of selfish and unappreciative of the friends you do have, because you dislike yourself so much you never believe they really like you, and then you hold them at arm’s length and never realize that’s literally why you’re so lonely. Ben probably feels like he doesn’t know how to talk to Ursula because Ursula is so quiet, and I bet she can get overwhelmed by him, but also sees that his heart is in the right place. And this makes Ursula yet another friend who has doubtless hung out with Bea and Ben separately and heard them complain about each other, so of course she’s on Team Love Gods. She’s just so dear and eager to help her friends, I love Ursula.
- I am also still sad that Ben never had an in-world Tumblr account I could have followed. It’s not story-necessary, but I’d have liked it.
- I kept thinking the grass was bugs and getting scared, but I still like seeing Ursula’s nature photography. She’s definitely growing up to be a pro videographer/photographer/director/cinematographer or something.
- Ursula also posted a picture of a TARDIS cake she and Hero baked for Bea, which, first, why are there not more Hero and Ursula friendship fluff fics AND Hersula ship fics about them baking together? I love this. They are so cute and sweet.
- Does this cake post mean we have an approximate canonical birthday for Beatrice? Baking a cake for someone feels like a birthday thing. It was posted on March 30, so is Bea’s birthday March 30? This is huge, I don’t think we ever got anyone’s birthday except Hero’s elsewhere in the series! Unless the cake is a belated Welcome to Auckland cake? I haven’t rewatched Bea’s first video yet, I’m terrible, I know, so I don’t remember how long she’s been in town. They didn’t actually say it was her birthday, so it’s probably a Welcome cake. Oh well. Still sweet!
- Also, the tags say the cake is banana cake! So Beatrice already likes Ben’s favorite food, and she’s definitely a huge fan of Doctor Who even though she downplays that to avoid praising anything connected to Benedick. She’s so stubborn, I love her, and they are meant to be. This will not be the last detail indicating how much they have in common and see eye-to-eye. I love all of it.
- I also love that this isn’t the last themed cake to appear! I remember the dalek cake from the pizza party later in the series. Ursula and Hero were hobby bakers and shippers on deck from the start!
- The email with the cake post is titled “putting the Who in superwholock”, which is so incredibly 2014, and also makes me realize that the NMTD characters were really only WhoLocks, none of them were Supernatural fans that I remember. I just find that funny given what a behemoth it was and is on tumblr. I don’t blame them, it’s the one of the three I’ve seen the least of too, it’s just amusing. I actually don’t know if it ever even aired over there, to be fair.
- We also got Bea’s first tweet, in the email with her first video, but it’s pretty simple, nothing to dissect. We get some good tweets later on, though! I promise I’ll make a post about Bea’s first video before the next video email on Wednesday. I’ve decided I don’t have to post recaps day-of, I just want to do them eventually.
- MVP of the past few emails: Ursula! You go, Ursula. Jules 20genderchild is so right that you deserved a last name!!!!

Hey I just read your Poly!Romickey and I was wondering if you’d be able to write them again with a a reader who is a detective working on their ghost face cases, and she asks them for advice to get into the mind of the killer (not knowing that her boyfriends are the killers) 💗💗💗
missing at sunrise studios
poly!ghostface romickey x fem!reader (though anyone can read)
Tumblr media
You sighed quietly, jostled a bit between the two men on either side of you. Roman had his right arm around your shoulders, and Mickey’s left hand was fidgeting with one of your hands in his lap. You weren’t paying attention to what they were saying; you were only aware of the inflection of their voices as they argued about the movie you were watching. The movie itself may as well not have been playing; your mind was miles away.
You felt a little bit guilty; it was a rare evening that the three of you could actually sit like this and enjoy a movie together. Roman was on set at all hours of the day and night, overseeing everything to an almost fanatical level of perfectionism. And ever since Mickey had (in his own words) "slept his way to the top" and been assigned as Cinematographer, he was there just as much. Up until recently, you’d had a full schedule yourself, until the Chief decided you needed a few weeks off. You gritted your teeth at the thought.
There wasn’t much you could do from home except worry about your two boyfriends and jump at every shadow, gun drawn, just in case. There were weird things going on at that studio. People walking off set and never returning. Some seemingly disappearing from their trailers. Harassing phone calls, all with that creepy voice modulator disguising the caller’s real voice. You’d gotten such a phone call yourself, in your partner’s voice, warning you to drop the investigation unless you wanted to be added to the list of missing persons.
You clenched your hands, and you felt Mickey nudge you a bit, but you were too deeply entrenched in your own thoughts. It was a massive violation for them to have used your partner’s voice to intimidate you in that way. Your partner, who you shared your life with almost as much as your boyfriends, the person you were required to trust and rely on the most. And even though you knew it wasn’t truly his voice speaking to you, trying to frighten you and weaken your trust in him, you felt it work just the tiniest bit. Your partner’s voice was somewhere in a dark corner of your mind, taunting you, and you weren’t sure you’d ever be able to disassociate it from the killer.
"She’s catatonic," Mickey said, waving a hand in front of your face until you snapped to attention.
"What?" You asked, looking between him and Roman now.
"She’s fine," Roman replied, "the movie’s just boring. I’m falling asleep myself."
"You picked the movie," Mickey pointed his finger at him accusingly.
"At your recommendation," Roman defended. "That’s what I get for listening to you."
"You bitch about every movie unless it’s some lame poduction you worked on yourself," Mickey said with a look of disdain.
"At least I’ve worked on productions," Roman replied contemptuously.
"You guys always do this," you interjected before Mickey could answer. "You could just flirt like normal people instead of instigating fights all the time, you know."
"It’s more fun this way," Mickey smirked, to which you and Roman snorted.
Tumblr media
You peeled the sheet away and crawled slowly out of bed, trying not to disturb either of the men sleeping beside you. When you stood up, you turned to make sure neither of them were awake. Mickey moved into your spot, probably seeking warmth, and then attached himself to Roman. You gave a half-smile before slipping out of the room. Despite everything, your mind was still on the case. Until actual bodies were found, the studio wasn’t going to be shut down, and that meant the show would have to go on. Mickey and Roman didn’t seem too concerned, but that didn’t mean you weren’t concerned enough for the both of them.
You sat down at your desk, flicking the small lamp on, and flipped open the case file. There wasn’t much info to go on, as there wasn’t much evidence gathered yet. It was unlike the killer to not leave any mutilated bodies behind, but you figured that was done purposely. Maybe whoever it was, or whoever they were, had a reason to want the studio to stay open and operational.
You barely suppressed a yawn, booting up the computer to look up old cases and see if you could glean anything from them. You looked up, startled, when you heard footsteps behind you. Roman ran a hand down your back soothingly. "Sorry, I thought you heard me." You shook your head, eyebrows a bit furrowed. He hadn’t made the faintest sound until he was already behind you. "What are you reading?" he questioned, squinting at the bright screen.
Mickey walked in next, announcing his presence by stubbing his toe and hissing in pain. You smothered a laugh behind your palm as he limped towards you. He was wearing Roman’s glasses, which Roman promptly removed and placed on his own face. "Are we going for round two in here?" Mickey asked. "I always wanted to try out the desk."
"We’re not screwing on the desk." Roman shut that down immediately, leaning closer to you to read the text on the screen.
"Not tonight at least," you tacked on, sharing a grin with Mickey.
"Ghostface?" Roman mumbled, straightening back up. "Why are you reading about this right now?"
"Just looking for... I don’t know; clues maybe? Patterns? Something. No one at the precinct's taking this case seriously," you sighed, frustrated. "More people have gone missing from that studio of yours than the Bermuda Triangle," you said sarcastically.
"No one’s gone missing," Roman stated matter-of-factly. "I mean, 2 or 3 extras maybe, who probably took a few of our props with them, by the way."
"They’re probably auctioning that stuff on eBay right now," Mickey agreed.
"More like 4 or 5. One of which was a Security Guard. And even if they’re just ‘extras', they’re still people. People who can’t sell things online because they’re missing," you emphasized.
"There’s no Ghostface killer running around MY set," Roman insisted, hands on his hips.
"I got a call!" You all but yelled. "The sick freak called me using my partner’s voice."
"What did they say?" Mickey asked.
"Told me to drop the case unless I want to go missing too," you said with a slight eye roll.
"Well...what if it really was your partner?" Mickey insinuated.
"He would never say something like that, least of all to me," you said firmly, though that same tiny part of your brain whispered Mickey’s words insidiously. You shook it off, sighing again. "And now I need to figure out who did say it. But I’ve got nothing to go on here except old police reports and Gale Weathers' books. I need to get in the killer’s head somehow."
"I think it would be better if you got in my pants," Mickey said suggestively.
"I’m being serious, Mickey."
"So was he," Roman deadpanned.
"C’mon, let’s at least take this seriously in bed," Mickey cajoled, trying to haul you up from your chair.
You let yourself be pulled up and led away from the desk, with Roman following behind you both. You were situated in the middle of the bed again, and as Mickey and Roman joined you, you sat up. "I’m never going to get to sleep if I don’t make at least some progress."
Mickey groaned, and you were surprised when you felt a hand weave in your hair and tug you down. Roman leaned over you, his hand holding you in place. "We’ll talk in the morning. Now sleep," he commanded.
"You made him mad," Mickey taunted.
"Shut the fuck up, Mick," Roman said.
"He’s a real potty mouth when he’s upset. Runs in the family," Mickey said conspiratorially.
Roman made a quiet sound in his throat, almost like a growl, and his hand left your hair before he was moving over you to get to Mickey.
Tumblr media
You took the warm cup Roman handed you and sipped the liquid calmly. Mickey had a poptart hanging out of his mouth as he joined you at the table, setting down a plate with some toast for you and Roman. Roman ate the toast even as he made a face as though he wasn’t savoring the taste. Mickey didn’t pay him any mind, munching serenely on his poptart. You left your toast untouched, smirking at Mickey when Roman reached for it next.
"So about last night?" you prompted.
"You want to get in the killer's head," Mickey said.
"There's probably two," you guessed.
Mickey nodded with a grin. "Clever girl," he quoted. You rolled your eyes at the reference.
"Not necessarily," Roman piped up, and you shrugged at him.
"Why would they target unknown extras instead of established actors?" Mickey asked.
"To lay low? Sate his or her bloodlust without drawing too much attention. The news hasn’t even been reporting this," you answered.
"Okay, and who could get into the studio anytime they want?"
"Cast, crew, security," you ticked off your fingers and shrugged again.
"The police," Roman added.
"And there haven’t been any bodies, right?" Mickey prodded. "So if these people are dead, maybe it didn’t happen at the studio."
"Or the killer knows how to get rid of dead bodies," Roman said.
"But why call me? If they want to lay low and avoid suspicion..." You asked, slumping back in your chair, feeling exhausted from trying to piece all this together.
"That’s Ghostface’s MO, isn’t it?" Roman asked.
"And what’s the point if nobody knows?" Mickey questioned. "Somebody has to know. Somebody has to be interested, or it’s like putting on a play for an empty audience."
"You’re the audience," Roman concluded for him.
"So they’re doing all this to mess with me?" you asked uncertainly.
"Maybe," Mickey said. "Who’d want to mess with you?"
You looked at Mickey, knowing immediately who he was thinking about. Aside from him, Roman, and your family (which was absolutely out of the question), all your friends were basically your co-workers.
"The killer’s able to change their voice," you said lowly. "It’s not him. Or anyone from the precinct."
"Who would even have tech like that besides the government?" Roman asked.
"Exactly." Mickey nodded sagely. "And who does the government fund the most? The police."
You sat there silently, your mouth slightly open, as you processed all this.
"So this is a government conspiracy now?" Roman asked, his face scrunched up in disbelief.
"Everything’s a government conspiracy." Mickey smiled wide, his eyes practically shining. "Haven’t you watched ‘Enemy of the State’?"
You groaned.
"I’ll add it to the list," Roman said disinterestedly. "Get dressed, or I’m leaving without you," he added, checking the time on his watch.
"Wanna come with?" Mickey asked you. "You can skulk around a bit."
"Sure, I guess. I have nothing to do around here anyway," you said, getting up to follow Mickey to your bedroom.
Your cellphone rang, startling you and freezing you in your tracks. You looked down at the caller ID, seeing your partner’s name. You darted your eyes to the side and tucked your phone away hurriedly. You strongly doubted this was some high-level conspiracy, despite Mickey’s enthusiasm for the idea, but you weren’t remotely in the frame of mind to deal with any of that right now.

Watched Michael Mann’s Manhunter
Tumblr media
(No, he didn’t choose the title)
So I’ve been in both a Hannibal mood and a Michael Mann mood recently, so I thought I’d take a look at the original adaptation of the original novel. And I gotta say, it’s very interesting to look at it both isolated and in the context of everything that came afterwards
First of all, it’s got a great cast. Unlike the sequels there aren’t really any names in the cast outside of Brian Cox, but everyone gives a great performance, especially William Petersen as Will Graham. Whenever he’d do the character’s signature monologues while talking to himself, it’s nothing but him talking directly to the camera in single takes, he doesn’t have the luxury of cuts or montages to fall back on. Brian Cox’s Hannibal Lecktor is the most understated version, but that doesn’t mean he’s missing the kind of fruity cattiness that makes him so fascinating to watch. The two of them have great chemistry that definitely does have hints of the homoerotic, but I just wish I was able to watch more of them. The killer who they’ve reunited over, Francis Dolarhyde, is played by Tom Noonan, is also a real treat. He’s so tall and imposing, and a great antagonist. One of the flaws of the movie is how little time is spent on him. (Ironically the book has the opposite problem, having page after page describe every single injustice Dolarhyde has faced as a child to the point of being cartoonishly tragic.) As I haven’t finished the Hannibal show, I can’t comment on its portrayal of the Red Dragon, so I have to give it to the 2002 movie for the best version of him. All of the rest of the cast, such as Dennis Farina, Kim Greist, and Joan Allen are all extremely natural and do a good job even if they aren’t as memorable as future performances in the series
From a filmmaking perspective, it’s beautiful. Michael Mann and cinematographer Dante Spinotti have beautiful imagery that they love to linger on, the score is that kind of 80s synth sound that horror and thrillers have severely lacked in the last few decades, and it all builds up to a movie that has the perfect amount of style and substance.
I’ll compare it to the other movies in the series that I’ve seen, Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. It’s very interesting to watch compared to the former, since that one is unique in that it goes for a very naturalistic visual style, which pairs well with the more animated cast. And then Red Dragon makes the cast even more animated somehow, and has become perhaps the most stylized thing outside of the TV series, though I think it backfired into becoming style over substance, which is odd considering it has the same source material and cinematographer, but 16 years and a worse director make all the difference. Mann’s iconic level of detail may be a bit overboard, to the point where most of the crew left before wrapping and the ending is very noticeably cobbled together and short, but you won’t see Brett Ratner have people ride an elevator in a building several blocks away timed exactly to rise as Will figures out the killer’s motive, being basically a Lightbulb moment.
All in all, if you’re a fan of either Hannibal Lecter, thrillers, or just movies in general, give this a watch, it’s very much a hidden gem
