Jade, my beloved!! <3
What about reader going over to Eddie's trailer and Roan starts clinging to reader, and Eddie tries to apologize but reader absolutely does not mind at all and happily carries Roan around? (The way you write kiddos is so sweet😭)
omg YES thank you . girl dad Eddie forever <3 | fem!reader
You and Eddie (and Roan, his mirror image daughter) have been on one date.
It's not easy getting to know someone when they bring their baby but you'd figured it was the only reasonable option. He's gonna have her for the rest of his life and you wouldn't have it any other way besides, so you'd told him to bring her and you'd stuffed her full of chocolate cake. You'd wanted her to like you.
You might've done too good a job.
Eddie called you after the date — the next morning, to your delighted surprise — and told you how much fun he had. How he'd love to see you again. You'd enough butterflies to lose your mind and told him absolutely, yes, but what day's good for you?
So your next date is a week away. You're eager to see him again. You're excited to see his daughter, too, because she'd been lovely and sweet, quiet though she'd certainly known how to throw a tantrum.
Eddie calls you two days after the first phone call and says, "Listen, do you want to come over for dinner?"
"Now?"
"If you're not busy."
So here you are. Standing outside of his trailer home in Forest Hills Trailer Park with a teddy bear in one hand and a bottle of sparkling cider in the other, nervously shifting from foot to foot and wondering if maybe you should've brought wine. Or beer. But no, right? He has a baby. Kind of.
You knock and wait. There's scrambling feet, obviously smaller footsteps pittering over the floor and then a bang against the door. You flinch and wait.
"Hello?" you call.
"Oh, shit," someone says from further away. "I'm coming!"
"Shit," a little voice echoes.
"No!" Eddie calls, horrified.
Quick footsteps. The deadbolt slides free and the door opens.
Eddie's shepherded Roan behind him just enough to let you in. "You can't say that, babe. It's a bad word," he tells her, face hidden behind a sheet of messy curls.
Roan doesn't take any notice of him. She's stopped dead behind him in an actual princess dress. Tiny clip on earrings hang from her small earlobes and her dark curls are pulled up into dainty pig tails. Her lips part and expose the pink of tongue and all her pearly baby teeth, and then she screams.
"Yes!" she says, and throws herself at you.
Her arms wrap around your legs and her face rubs into your thighs. When you don't hug back she looks up at you with wide brown eyes, all her dad's, and blinks.
"Baby, you can't-" Eddie sighs and scrubs a hand across his jaw. "I'm sorry," he apologises.
You hold out the teddy bear and the cider and he takes both on instinct. Hands free, you lean down to give Roan a tentative hug.
"Hi, princess. I'm happy to see you too, and in your lovely dress! You look so pretty," you baby-talk, bubbly and light and very, very enamoured by the warmth of her small body clutching your thighs.
"She- I said you were coming and she told me she had to wear the princess dress," Eddie explains.
You turn your attention from your cuddle and find him as handsome as you'd left him last Thursday. He's dressed not nearly as fancy as he had been, though this feels more him. A band t-shirt, a pair of black jeans. His tattoos play stark over the length of his arms.
This is more like it.
"Yeah? Good, she should wear it. She's pretty as any princess I've seen."
Eddie tries to separate your clinger so he can shut the door but Roan adamantly refuses it.
"Up," she says, hands grabbing.
"Roan, Y/N doesn't want to-"
"Up please!"
You don't have a clue how to pick up a toddler so you squat down. Roan wraps her arms around your neck and squeals with happiness as you stand. The tulle of her skirt is scratchy under your palms.
"You really don't have to," Eddie says. He sounds worried.
You meet his eyes and try to adjust your hold until she's comfortable as you say, "Hey, it's okay. If it's okay with you?"
He's still for a moment.
"Yeah. Yeah, it's okay," he says softly.
You smile until he smiles back.
Roan pulls away from your neck to touch your neck. You shiver at her cold hands and rub up the length of her back. "Are you cold?" you fret.
"She just had an ice pop."
You raise your eyebrows at him. Dipping your head toward your shoulder, you fix your knowing gaze on Roan. "Is that so? What flavour do you like? No, let me guess..." You take in the purple at the corner of her mouth and beam. "Grape yeah? I like grape too. You have good taste."
"Can I get you a drink?" Eddie asks, wielding the apple cider.
Talking to Roan is a piece of cake. Talking to her dad is nowhere near as easy. You feel like you're in school again as he watches you, your lips curving into a funny excuse for a smile.
"Please."
He disappears to the kitchenette. You press Roan's chest to yours and search their living room for details, curious and hungry to know more about them. They've got a thousand things, not a lick of space between toys, so many toys, pinks and purples like a wave carpeting the floor.
There's a small square table painted pink outfitted by saucers and teacups. There are three chairs, two pink and plastic and one a wooden drum stool, and at each sits a teddy bear.
"Having a party?" you ask.
Roan nods at you. "A tea party."
"A tea party!" you echo, impressed by her neat pronunciation. She's precious when she isn't on her knees screaming.
"For Teddy," she says.
"Yeah? Which one's Teddy?"
She turns to the table and points at the pink bear with a missing ear.
"Why don't you finish your tea party, Roan?" Eddie asks, then says to you, quieter, "You can put her down if you want to."
You take that as a You should put her down now and start to bend. Roan wraps her arms around your neck and clings, knees digging into your sides.
"No," she moans miserably.
"Baby," Eddie starts.
"No," she says again, meaner. You swoop her back up toward your chest, worried she'll start crying.
You feel awkward because it's obvious Eddie is embarrassed by her showing off. She starts to whine loudly and he gets worse, sending you an apologetic look as he approaches.
You can hear the apple cider sparkling away in the glasses in his hands, he talks to her that gently. "Roan, Y/N can't hold you all night, baby. She wants a drink. You don't like carrying Teddy all day, do you?"
Roan cries.
"It's really okay. I don't mind, I promise," you say.
The 'I promise,' comes out ridiculous. Too warm. Too genuine.
Eddie beams at you, almost haphazard. "Okay, awesome, because she's about to go nuclear and I don't think we'll survive it."
"Does she scream?"
"Full nine yards, slaps her hands on the floor, rolls around."
You gasp. "No! No way, do you really show off like that?" you ask her sympathetically. "I can't believe you'd ever do something like that, you're such a sweetheart. Is your daddy telling me lies?" You stroke down her cheek until she laughs, tickled. "He's lying, isn't he?"
"If you stick around long enough you'll see."
You don't flinch. "I can't wait."
Roan giggles wildly as you tickle down into the crease of her neck. You laugh in response, completely infected by her joy.
"She has a really lovely laugh," you praise.
"She's not the only one," Eddie says seriously.
You meet his gaze over her bunches and wrinkle your nose at him when he winks.
He's a real charmer when he wants to be. You're just dying to be charmed.

My vampire ex-boyfriend is stalking me. This is not an unusual occurrence. Even when we were still dating he was always doing this, he just used to be more obvious about it because if I called him out he already had a line locked and loaded about how he was only looking out for me. And sure, I'll admit that I've had more than the average number of near-death experiences for a seventeen year old, but at the risk of rehashing old arguments, a lot of that could've been avoided if he'd just turned me the first time I asked.
I've broken things off with my vampire ex-boyfriend a couple times before, usually for about the same reasons, but this time it's different. I think he's noticed it too. I'm not grieving anymore, not holing myself up in my room listening to sad music watching every gray day pass me by. I've talked to my friends, then to my dad, and they're on my side. My dad took a little longer to come around, but it helped that his best friend's son went through the same thing. It's good to have people around who want to support me, not just protect me.
My vampire ex-boyfriend didn't want me to be a vampire like him. He didn't want me to have sex, with him or anyone else. He didn't want me to go out with my friends without him there, but he also didn't want to come along. He didn't want me to go out after dark. He didn't want me to cut my hair. But he liked me, he really liked me. He liked that I didn't ever show much skin even in the summer. He liked that I didn't have any real hobbies or passions so that he could be the one to introduce me to music and fine art and literature. He liked that I kept my innermost thoughts so buried that they were a secret even to me.
I don't know for sure if I want to be a vampire anymore. I think I might, or at the very least I want to keep my options open, but it doesn't feel as urgent now that I know there are other ways to change myself. I used to think I needed it to be close to him. He was so beautiful, is so beautiful. My vampire ex-boyfriend, with his serious, brooding stare and his model chin and his body carved from the center of a pale diamond, his chiseled angles sharp enough to cut with just a glance. And then me beside him, with my long mousy hair and my fragile frame hidden beneath overlarge shirts and jeans when even a knee-length skirt made me feel too exposed. For all his sanguineous habits, I was the parasite, and he was the genuine article, and maybe that's why it hurt so much to have him reject me again and again. All I ever wanted was to burrow into his colorless skin, to feel what it was like to be strong and unyielding. My vampire ex-boyfriend hated his perfect body. He waxed poetic about my warmth, my softness. Maybe we were more alike than I thought in the end.
I load my old pickup truck full of lumber and nails and feel pleased by how much easier it is now that I've started to put on a little muscle. Working with my hands makes me feel more grounded in my body, so dad's enlisted my help in some of his DIY projects around the house. My collection of bandages is growing, from splinters and slips and the occasional dropped hammer, but my coordination grows a fraction less abysmal each day, and if I spill blood there's no one there to wince and whine about it.
I put a lock on my bedroom window. I pin photographs to my wall documenting my changes from month to month. Dad shows me how to shave without cutting myself, despite my insistence that if I could figure out my legs I can figure out my face. I smile more days than I don't. I still turn my head in the same direction when I hear a loud crack from beyond the treeline that's not quite thunder. I still visit his family, when he's not around. In another life I know his parents would've treated me like one of their own.
Just as I'm climbing into the driver's seat I hear a voice from the shadows, whispering the name of a stranger. I drive away. I've got no more interest in raising the dead.

About the tooltip/BSOK options
These skirts match both the standard Maxis M shapes and Lifa's trans M shapes (except EM because there is no dedicated Lifa trans EM shape - Lifa trans EM sims use the adult shape). That's why I'm giving you the option to have them either categorized with regular cc or with Lifa's trans M cc.
But, I hear you say, wouldn't any M bottoms match both the standard Maxis M shapes and Lifa's trans M shapes anyway? They match at the waist so that they are compatible with the same tops, but other than that, not exactly.
Maxis M and Lifa trans M bottoms differ in 3 places: Lifa trans M bottoms have the Maxis F higher crotch level, lower knees mapping and distinctly F toes mapping. These particularities on Lifa trans M sims are solved through the use of showerproof skins made specifically for trans sims. Anyway, since skirts hide crotch level and the specific skirts I picked for this post also hide the knees and toes textures, those differences aren't applicable here, hencewhy I'm saying they match both shapes.
In contrast, see the skirts on this post, which I presented exclusively as for Lifa's trans M and made available BSOK'd only. Those skirts have visible knee textures and those knees will look a bit weird on sims who don't have a showerproof skin made for trans M.
That said, these distinctions may ultimately be completely irrelevant to you. To be honest they aren't jarring at all unless you're looking for them. I also never mean to imply that people need to be trans to wear skirts or anything like that, the classifications that I use for cc clothing are purely technical (the TS2 part of my brain is mostly occupied by downloads folder management and CAS catalog organization and apparently I haven't played the actual game since November 2022 oh god).

Hello hello! I have gotten myself into an American Civil War era ball in November and I was wondering if you had any input on formal dress from the era! I've never done reenactment before but I would love some input on what I should wear!
That sounds very cool! I hope you'll have great time there when it eventually comes! :D
I'll go through all the garments and accessories that would have been used at the time, but obviously limitations of reality might get in the way of some parts. I'll give my opinion on what I think is more and less necessary to embody the era, but I've never done reenactment either so I can't really say for sure what is the expected level of historical accuracy, maybe someone with some experience of reenactment can chime in. But you'll be the best judge on what you can realistically get/make. Think of this as background info.
So the years we are looking at are 1861-65. I'll start from underlayers towards outer layers.
Shift and drawers
By 1860s drawers were used by most women with their shifts. The shift had wide neckline, small sleeves and often a bit of lace trimming. The sleeves could be wide like in the examples, but less often they might be small poofs. It was roughly knee length and still quite often made from white linen, but white cotton too.
Linen shift from mid 1800s US, and a linen shift from 1861-65.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The drawers were very simple in design. They most often split crotch seam, meaning the crotch seam wasn't sewn closed and the waistband was the only thing holding the pieces together. This made it easier to use the bathroom. They reached around mid-calf, sometimes just over the knees, but ankle length was too long. 1860s drawers were very full and usually had simple lace and/or frills at the hem. They were also made from either linen or cotton at the time.
The first example is from 1863 Peterson's Magazine, where pattern for joined drawers are marketed as new, but it's still very much patterned in a way where the drawers don't need to be taken down when using bathroom. It would be still pretty rare. Then drawers from 1860s US.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would say basically any shift with short sleeves and wide enough neckline works here or really in place of that even almost any similarly shaped under dress, but it's very crucial to have something under the corset. If a shift isn't easily available, the replacing dress should be thin so it's not super hot, loose so it doesn't need closures that might cause chafes under the corset and preferably linen or at least cotton, so it's not sweaty and feels comfortable. Linen is really the superior undergarment material as it's anti-bacterial, very breathable and easy to wash, cotton was only contending with it for very Victorian reasons. The drawers are not necessary, not everyone used them at the time. If you don't feel comfortable not wearing any underpants (which was the other option at the time), I do recommend them since using a bathroom with the crinoline and underpants you have to take down is pretty hard.
Corset
1860s corset was fairly short compared to earlier and later corsets, and usually wouldn't reach very far on the hips. It wasn't necessary as the waistline was just above the natural waistline and the skirt was very wide so the shape of the hips would be completely covered. The corset used in formal settings like balls was usually heavily boned but for the same reasons as why the corset itself was relatively short, the bones didn't necessarily reach beyond the waistline. For these reasons even the heavily boned corsets left very large range of movement for the torso. As it was typical for the whole Victorian era, the corset was closed at the front with a busk and had lacing in the back.
The boning was usually just whalebone, metal often only used in the busk. The fabric was reinforced with most often with cotton twill or canvas. Especially in case of these fancier corsets used with evening gowns, the corset often had a silk fashion fabric, which could be white like other undergarments or colorful.
Silk corset from 1864 Britain/France, and cotton wedding corset from 1865-67 US.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Corset really is very necessary to pull of the ball gown of this era. Not just because it's very crucial in getting the silhouette, but also because it makes it easier to wear the large skirt as the corset distributes it's weight across the torso and supports the torso too. I do think any Victorian corset works here well enough as they are roughly similarly shaped. Because the crinoline is very light, the skirt is lighter than it looks, so even other less structured supportive garments that give even somewhat similar shape could work if Victorian corsets are not an option, like Regency stays or Edwardian corsets or even some modern corset. From what I've heard about reenactment events, I would prioritize having corset (or similar) that fits you and you know you can wear for a long period of time over historical accuracy and the right silhouette. (Corset often needs to be broken in like leather shoes, because the whalebones will shape into the body.)
Crinoline
Crinoline is a crucial part of the underlayers to achieve the silhouette of this era. The silhouette went through some changes even in the first half of 1860s. It started as quite similar to late 1850s silhouette of very large and round, though already in 1861, the volume was more focused in the back. In the following years the skirt would become less round, but wider and the volume would increasingly lean to the back. The skirt would reach it's widest point with massively long back, almost like a very wide bustle, in 1865.
Crinoline from 1860-62 Spain, and another from 1865. You can see the progression quite well between these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's also all of these foundational layers shown all at once, though I think the crinoline is from between 1866-68, since it's so narrow around the hips (the silhouette collapsed very quickly from the critical mass of 1865 to a much more narrow A-lined silhouette).
Tumblr media
As said, this is really necessary to pull of the skirt of early half of 1860s. You really can't get the shape right without it. Especially for the earlier silhouette of the decade 1850s crinoline works perfectly fine and even the later 1860s crinoline like above. Even modern or 1950s hoop skirts can be serviceable here, but if the skirt is cut like in the mid 1860s, it definitely does need the elliptical crinoline that are very specific for those couple of years, as you'll see in the examples of the next section.
Petticoat
Petticoat's purpose in this era was mainly to smooth out the crinoline. It was therefore voluminous and usually made out of fairly stiff fabric, usually a bit heavier linen or cotton. There was often horizontal pleats around the hem, which would reinforce the shape. Couple of layers could be used too to properly cover the crinoline. It was pretty plain, usually white, but not necessarily, maybe with a bit of lace at the hem. Especially in early 1860s the petticoat was usually gathered with cartrigde pleats, which give a very round and voluminous shape. Around the mid 1860s, the pleating would be mostly focused in back to enhance the long shape.
Cotton petticoat from 1855-65 US, and linen petticoat from 1860-65 US. The first is very likely late 1855 or very early 1860s as it's so very round. The second is definitely closer to 1865, it shows very well how much more volume was at the back, as the hem there is much longer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not strictly necessary, but it's very obvious when a crinoline doesn't have a petticoat on top of it, especially if the skirt is made out of some thinner fabric. It can be very simple, it just needs to be big enough. Basically any similar sized skirt or petticoat works fine in it's place.
Corset cover
Corset cover or camisole, as the name suggests, had similar purpose as petticoat, to smooth out the hard line of the corset. It was a small shirt, with similar neckline and sleeves as shift at the time. It was like other undergarments almost always white, often made out of cotton, but linen too.
Cotton corset cover from 1860 US, and another from 1864-68 US.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not super necessary imo, but it does give a smoother finish. It could be pretty easily replaced by a corset cover from different era, that's close enough in design (so it won't be showing under the bodice), if something like that is more easily available.. Any shirt really that's similarly loose-ish, so that it doesn't create too much bulk, but also doesn't get pinned tense by the bodice, would work I think.
Ball gown
Now we finally get to the meat of it. Ball gowns of the early half of 1860s had very tiny sleeves, that hung just over the shoulder. They were usually tiny poofs or could be tiny frills too. As mentioned earlier, the bodice was short and ended abruptly at the waistline, which was slightly above the natural waist, to emphasize the mass of the skirt. A typical waistline exaggerated pointed end.
The skirt was not as elaborately layered like a cake as in late 1850s, but typically it had a bit of layering at the hem, where the layers were displayed by different types of gathering. An organza layer on top was very popular. A bit of trimming at the hems of the layers of the skirt was common, but the amount of trimmings was pretty restrained (especially when compared to the next couple of decades).
The colors of evening wear were usually light. I've noticed white, light pink, light blue, mint and lavender crop up most often. It was though very trendy to have a dark or a bright jewel accent color combined with the soft dominant color. The new synthetic dyes were able to create cheep bright colors unlike before and people were very into them. The most popular colors, that were also used a lot as accent colors in evening wear were bright purple, magenta, electric blue and emerald green. The evening gowns tended to be solid color and mostly one color too, except for the accents. Typical decorative motifs were fabric flowers, bows, lace trimming and fringes. For evening wear the fabric was most often silk as taffeta or satin and possibly organza in addition.
Here's some select fashion plates with ball gowns I really like. The firs is from 1863 and the other two are from 1865.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first two include my personal favorite trend from this period, which is corselette/Swiss waist/Medici waist. It was a small decorative usually underbust waistwear, sometimes with shoulder straps, sometimes without. It was part of the Gothic Revival fashion and was alluding to Renaissance bodices and stays. They really have nothing to do with Medieval or Renaissance fashion, but Victorians associated the use of waistwear and stays as outer wear with vague idea of The Gothic for quite complicated reasons (I talk about that in this post at length). They were lightly boned, but just to keep up the shape, they were not in any way supportive, just decorative. The blue dress in the first example above has a Medici waist (the trend was loosely inspired by Catherine de Medici's portraits), which has the distinctive upward pointed neckline combined with shoulder straps, and the white dress in the second example has either Swiss waist or corselette. The terms were used quite interchangeably, even the Medici waist's definition is pretty loose (I usually just default to corselette). Below there's couple of more example of these. First is silk corselette from 1863-67 US and second is silk corselette from 1864-68 US. The third is a dress with another silk coselette supposedly from 1855 US. I think the bodice is too short for 1855 and the skirt very distinctly mid 1860s, with the volume in the back, so I won't believe MET on this. Interestingly the dress is made out of piña fabric, which is traditional fabric made out of pineapple plant fiber and was a luxury fabric among Western upper crust in 18th and 19th centuries for colonialist reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, I'm done with the corselette propaganda. I have a pinterest board of primary images with a section for 1860-65 for additional inspiration, but I haven't organized it yet, so there might be some misplaced images.
Accessories
These are not that necessary, but a bit of extra detail to sell the look.
Hair was kept in elaborate low buns, which could be decorated with fabric flowers and ribbons for the evening. Necklaces were pretty short and usually fairly simple. This was the time, when the iconic black silk ribbon collar became a thing. In 1860s it usually had some small (or bigger as in this royal example) pendant on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gloves were strictly necessary. For evening they were always white kid (a type of thin leather) gloves, which just covered the wrists. Silk gloves were thought of as tacky. The gloves were very simple in style but bracelets were often used with them.
Above knee stockings were always used. Usually they would be white, but they did come in all kinds of colors and small patters on the ankle were common. They would be knitted silk for the evening. Here's some silk stockings in very fun colors and patterns from 1860s England. They were secured with with a wide silk ribbon tied below or above knee. I use stockings and ribbon to secure it for everyday purposes, and it works really well. The thing is to have wide enough ribbon you can circle around the leg couple of times, so it won't put too much pressure on one spot. For me below knee works the best. Really any thin knee high stockings works for this, and white is the safest bet.
Tumblr media
There's some options with the shoes. Both boots and slippers were acceptable for evening wear and slippers could have a heel or not. The evening shoes were less practical and fancier that your day shoes. They usually had silk as the fashion fabric, which wasn't that much of an issue, since they were used indoors.
Silk evening boots from 1860s France, silk slippers with a heel from 1855-65, and silk slippers from 1862 Austria.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, shoes won't be really seen under the skirt, so I don't think it's very necessary to get new shoes (there are shoe sellers like American Duchess who do historical reproduction so it's possible). Basically any ballerina slippers with a somewhat flat or at least round end are pretty close. Also any shoes roughly between 1830-1880 are basically accurate (minus some details) as the shoe fashion changed pretty slowly.
I hope this was helpful for at least providing some background info!

Zee Kay needs to stop being a coward and go back to dying his hair funky colous, let it grow out! Bring back updated and improved versions of tight outfights and skirts. CONTACTS!!!!!!!
Hi 👋
Oh boy, someone's patience seems to have run out over time 😅 There are a lot of requests in this one to unpack. Let's start with the hair: 1. We have these "funky" colours to choose from - which should it be? Red (tips), a red/orange coloration blond or white/silverish (with the help of some paste, still not entirely sure what I'm looking at)? I honestly wouldn't mind him going grey but well, no one's asking me so 🤷🏼‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Letting his hair grow out, sounds all fine and dandy - but which length are we talking about here? Slightly longer, chin length, full on dreads or the forbidden hair style, the old "squirrel Kruspe"? Long enough to make a mohawk or even the emo haircut?? Please don't say you want this one back, you're not fooling anyone Or... do you mean by "grow out" that he should just let it turn grey? I'm all for this 👀 You see, I am not giving up hope
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Tight outfits - they truly be life-threatening at times 😩 Please someone get this man some god damn fitting clothes for the next tour, I know I love his thickness to bits but this just can't be comfortable - but from the newest videos, it seems he lost some weight 💪🏼

about rendering oneself in a most symbolic manner (immediately): do you think it's significant that Shannon and Eva's golden eagles go without comment, as contrasted with Natsuhi's notable absence of one on her clothes? Or in the other direction, that Beatrice's blonde hair and western appearance are pointed out by the Ushiromiyas, as is the westernisation of their own names (at great length) while Jessica's blonde hair isn't brought up? Do you think this is a case of dissonance to suggest selective normalisation - the Kinzopium not having been fully inhaled, if you will, however internalised among the adults and George's mask - or is it possible that character design elements may be extradiagetic, EG, Jessica's blonde hair as symbol of her arranged headship-to-come? Or is there no functional difference between these, from a reader experiential point of view?
the visual presentation of umineko is something i've been thinking about on and off without much of a solid conclusion yet other than "I think something is happening here". i have been told that there's sometimes a discrepancy in intent/meaning between the actual text of the story and the sprites/cgs but i also don't necessarily trust that the people that told me that have been entirely reliable with their information.
i think there are a few options with the presentation of characters here depending on whether or not what's happening is literal or symbolic. in the case of eva she is the only person to directly mention the "honor of wearing the one winged eagle" which can be taken to mean that for eva this status symbol holds more weight than it would necessarily the other members of the family - having it tattooed on her skin is a useful visual shorthand for this level of devotion, but it also is something that eva as a person could believably do (aside: if eva does have a literal eagle tattooed on her there's a lot of interesting questions re: gender politics. the image of a tattooed women in 1980s higher society japan runs counter to common misogynist convention of how women in that sphere were expected to be presented which could relate to eva's troubled relationship with the ushiromiya heir/beatrice identity dichotomy i was thinking about earlier).
similarly it's interesting that in shannon's case the tattoo is only "revealed" to the reader via extradiegetic means - we only see her thigh insignia through the full body sprites in the character index and nowhere else, and the only mentions of servants wearing the eagle are contained within the unreliable narration and never outright discussed by anyone iirc. there's something to this i think to do with the nature of shame and secrecy - whatever the thigh imprint means to shannon is something concealed from all other material individuals in her vicinity and the scrutiny of such is to unveil something possibly indecent (the inner thigh behind a slit in the skirt is an incredibly conspicuous placement choice).
i think in both cases whether or not the eagles are literally there possibly comes secondary to the fact that the symbolic associations of these eagle placements (eva's counter-patriarchal desire and shannon's concealed veiled shame of being a possession of the ushiromiya cycle of violence) are readily apparent enough in other expressions of these characters. eva fights with every breath to become as valued as a first son and shannon's every move revolves around whatever elephant in the room has kept her chained in servitude to kinzo since infancy - for shannon in particular there are numerous concerning connotations surrounding the notion of sexual agency. it's all very much a map vs territory question here i think.
switching tracks to think about jessica, her appearance likely follows a similar logic to the previous two examples. jessica's role in the family is not that of the ushiromiya successor, but actually that of being the sexual incubator for the ushiromiya successor, as hinted by jessica herself and as outlined in kumasawa's regaling of natsuhi's own abuses and suffering. under this framework jessica's blonde hair then becomes a signifier of her destined transformation into the next generation's beatrice. this would also track with krauss himself having lighter hair than the rest of the family - position to blondeness = position to inherited power. however, if you go more down the track that there's just a blonde gene in the ushiromiya family then i think this discussion becomes more explicitly racialized: jessica despite having the hair and the social position is still explicity japanese and thus will always be an incongruent mirror to beatrice's manifestation of whiteness.
i guess then this could be used as a wedge reading into kinzo's own fascism and his hatred towards his family coming from the fact that the one thing they can never emulate no matter what they do to themselves and others is whiteness - they can affect the western "style" but they cannot be western. there's deeper stuff here as well with the conflation of beatrice's violence with whiteness and the inherent wealth/power she represents (could there be concealed political metaphors in the beatrice myth internalized by those on rokkenjima? something to think about more some other time) as a deliberate surrender into western dominion, and under this reading jessica (and krauss to an extent) represent that proximity to western/whiteness is no substitution for actually being western/white when push comes to shove. in this case jessica can be as blonde as she likes, but this visual signifer is ultimately worthless in the eyes of those who surround her compared to that which beatrice represents.
to the reader all this stuff is on an equal footing as everything in umineko is consciously crafted with conscious meanings you are meant to figure out and understand be that material or symbolic content, but in the case of some of these visual signifiers i do think there's merit to the possibility that they literally exist within the text too. that said, if there is a dissonance between the two despite the thematic congruity, it's worth asking whether or not this is for the benefit of the literal audience of the visual novel or the hypothetical audience of the metafiction - this is something i can't answer in any meaningful or useful capacity until whatever is happening with umineko in this department comes into better focus.

the fine line between love and hate - steve harrington
warnings: mentions of kissing, masturbation (m), perv!steve kind of?, steve being stupid, steve being oblivious, steve pinning over reader
Steve liked to think of myself as fairly likable, charming infact. Most girls would flit around him, giving him little smiles and flirting painfully obviously. But not you, ever since your very first day at Hawkins High you had hated him. He remembered your first interaction clearly. The buzz of rumours of a new girl at Hawkins had moved around quickly. Tommy had actually said to Steve, "There's a new girl. Super hot. Rich as well." These were the kind of encounters that made Steve question why he was friends with him. It had been lunch, the chatter quieting down as you walked down the aisle between the tables. That was the moment Steve had got his first look at you, and he hated to admit it but Tommy was absolutely right. You were the kind of beauty you couldn't look away from. Your eyes were a light brown, large and and opened wide looking anxiously around the room. Your hair was black and wavy, about shoulder length. Your pale skin had a smatter of freckles along the cheeks and nose. You wore a green and pink stripped button up, and a denim skirt. You had your tray balanced in one hand, and a booked tucked carefully under your arm.
"Nice legs new girl!" Tommy had whistled, you had turned around to face Tommy abruptly, casting him a glare.
"Thanks jackass!" you had called giving Tommy the middle finger. The students in the cafeteria laughed loudly. Tommy had elbowed his ribcage edging him on to say something to her. Steve didn't want to. Steve wanted to say how awesome what you just did was. But instead he had called out "To bad your legs are the only thing nice about you." Lie. There was lots of nice things about you. You had frowned at Steve a glint of something he couldn't quite place in your eyes, before chucking your lunch in the bin and leaving the cafeteria.
He felt bad, so bad infact that he felt physically sick. He found you in the library, book in hand, biting into a bright red apple. He took a mental picture.
"Hey.." he had begun. You had looked up in surprise before glaring at him.
"Fuck off." you had said returning your attention to your book. But Steve wouldn't give up, he wanted you to think highly of him.
"I'm really sorry-" he tried. But you slammed your book shut getting up of your chair quickly.
"Listen, I don't care what you say as long as you keep your fake as apologies to yourself. Now run back to your little friends. Go on."
You had spoke with such anger, that Steve felt like he had been wounded. He didn't know what to say, so he just turned and walked away, defeated.
You had been at Hawkins High a couple weeks, and had made quite the name for yourself. You had joined the cheer team, something nobody really expected. You made nice with Tommy, somehow forcing an apology out of him. You were soon the queen of the school, blessed with charm, looks, smarts, and the ability to somersault midair. Steve thought you would eventually come around to him, but after comment after comment and the giving of the nickname "Steve, the hair, Harrington" he gave up. He focused his full attention onto hating you just as much, burying down any feelings he had for you deep down.
Years of hatred passed. More mean comments, teasing nicknames and drunken fights at parties. Then you were graduating. You didn't have a date to the dance, but you didn't seem to care. It's not like you didn't have options, every guy who wasn't already taken had asked you. And you said no. Steve ended up taking some cheerleader, who Y/N also happened to not like, just to annoy her. You, of course were crowned Queen, and Steve crowned King. You refused to dance with him, arguing that you would rather die. You eventually were forced, awkwardly placing your hands on Steves shoulder as his found your waist. For two seconds, Steve forgot he hated you, and you forgot you hated him. His hands felt nice on your waist, and his slips looked oh so kissable. That was until the song ended and you pulled away from each other, a blush painted on both your cheeks.
You seemed to have forgotten that night, but Steve still remembered it clearly.
Steve found a job after graduation, at Scoops Ahoy in the recently constructed Starcourt mall. To his absolute horror, and surprise, you also worked there. He remembered Robin telling him about how nice and funny the other girl who works here was. She took him into the back, you had your back turned to them, head down.
"Hey this is-" Robin had begun, but you turned around and looked at Steve with a look of annoyance in your eyes.
"You have got to be kidding me, is this some sick joke Harrington?" she had spat angrily.
"So you guys know each other?" Robin asked awkwardly.
"Know each other? I hate her."
"Hate you just as much Harrington. Nice uniform by the way."
The next couple weeks went just like that, but it got even worse. Max Mayfield, who was friends with Steve's "adopted brother" Dustin had a soft spot for you. Because of this, you got included in the group. You assisted them in cracking the top secret Russian code, broke into the base with them, got drugged with Robin and Steve, all while insulting him like your life depended on it. The time of the Battle of Starcourt had arrived, and you fought like absolute hell. Steve had watched in some what awe, as you throwed fireworks directly into the mouth of the Mind flayer, cut open El's leg to get out the part of the monster, and set fire to Billy's car to stop him from following you. You were there when Billy died, and had held Max in yours arms as she cried. You were there when Jonathan, Will and El left. You made sure Max was okay, and her Mum was still holding a job. All while this happened Steve had slowly begun to hate you less, though every time he saw you he still felt the need to insult you. You and Robin were quite close, so when her and Steve got a job at Family Video, you got a job there as well. Things got better between the two of you, a normal conversation could be held without insulting each other. Steve had even made you laugh, and boy oh boy did he love your laugh. It was sweet and lively and you sounded so happy. A few weeks of working together and everything was all okay, until you started your quest to find the perfect man.
You had been on a date with nearly every single guy in Hawkins, and Steve had grown sick of hearing you recount date after date to Robin. Hell, he was even a little jealous that you had been out with every guy except him. So his natural response to this, was to start a quest for a girlfriend. He shamelessly flirted with every girl in the shop, which did earn him a lot of teasing from you and Robin, but none the less he was determined. Though one day he realise, he did not need to search all of Hawkins for the perfect girl, because she was right in front of him.
Steve was enamoured by you. Every time you insulted him, he would blush and read why to much into it, instead of responding with something just as mean. Every teasing comment had him overthinking your entire relationship. Every small touch, even if just a bump of fingers while you were shelving movies, had Steve wanting more. He noticed the tiny things about you, how you would always be chewing gum, how you would fiddle with your rings when you were nervous, how you would smell like vanilla and spices. He found out you favourite movies and took them home and watched them over and over, hoping to maybe be able to talk to you about them. He worked extra hard on joint shifts, to prove to you he was actually a hardworking guy, and so you wouldn't have to do as much work.
What was worse, is that you would always come into Family Video before hand, to show Robin your outfit. Once a week Steve had to suffer through you flouncing in, with the tiniest dresses, skirts and tops on. Steves personal favourite outfit was a little denim flippy skirt with a white lacy top and a pink belt. It was adorable.
Steve also found it extremely difficult to hide his boners. Every now again, you would brush up against him, while walking past, and Steve would loose it even at the slight contact. He would have to adjust his pants, a poor attempt at hiding it, but most of the time he ended up in the employee bathroom. His shirt would be stuffed in his mouth, to make sure he was unable to be heard. His hand would brace himself against the wall, as his other furiously pumped his cock. His hips would rut into the air as he came, thoughts of you in his mind. Steve new it was wrong, but something about it was almost thrilling.
Robin, unfortunately, eventually noticed Steve's endless pining over you.
"You totally like Y/N. You literally turn cherry red whenever you see her."
"I don't."
"You do."
"We hate each other." Steve had said, annoyed with Robins antics.
"Uhh no you don't. You like her Steve. I think she likes you too."
Steve's heart had skipped a beat at that.
"You really think she likes me?"
"HA! I knew you liked her." Robin laughed.
"Oh shut up. Your the worst."
"But you love me."
"Still, shut it."
Now Robin knew about his little crush, Steve had to be extra careful. He didn't want Robin telling Y/N by accident, and he didn't want you finding out. He was 99.9% convinced you didn't like him back, so it would just be embarrassing if you found out he liked you.
Little did Steve know, you too were also completely crazy over him.

((Diavolo and Lucifer turn into Dick girls..... That's all I gotta say about this one. 😅😅😅)
Tumblr media
Diavolo sits uncomfortably as he sips the potion Lucifer had given him, due to the change Lucifer underwent, the transformation shouldn't take too much time. "Are you sure this is a good idea, Lucifer? What are we supposed to do if MC thinks negatively of us in these forms?"
Lucifer or Luci as she's temporarily decided to be called, shakes her head and crosses her arms over the now large DD cupped breasts sitting on her chest. "I can assure you, this is a surprise she'll like. Levi told me that MC once watched a Devilhub Video with two women, one was a human and the other was a succubus but she had a cock. Levi told me MC got a nosebleed and passed out five minutes into the video."
Diavolo sighs as his hair starts to grow longer. "So she won't care that this is permanent? I love MC like you do but I'm not sure other demons will be too happy about this. They'll be too used to seeing my masculine figure, to be anything that's different is unnatural."
Luci sits down in the chair across from Diavolo's desk and she grabs the Prince's hands. "I think you should be more worried about MC willing to marry you and birth an heir, the people of the Devildom have always been into same sex marriage and polygamy. Whether you're a man of a woman, as long as you can secure a future for you and everyone in the kingdom, they won't bat an eye regarding your change in gender." She then looks down at Diavolo's now large chest then up at her face. "It seems your transformation is complete. How do you feel?"
Diavolo stands up on shaky legs, Luci helps her over to the full length mirror in her office. "I suppose I don't really feel any different, other than the new intense female hormones..... And my new voice, I don't feel any different." She looks at her figure, her height remained intact but her body took on a more feminine shape, her waist tightened and got smaller as her hip rounded out into curves. With her clothing now adjusted to her new figure she looks at the the G Cupped breasts she had attained then she turns to look at her back side, her ass had rounded and plumped even more to fill the space in the tight skirt she was wearing. She looked down at her legs as well, with the exception of her thighs, they thinned out but filled the see through black tights she was wearing and she looked down at her feet, still the same size but instead of fancy dress shoes, she was wearing thick black and red pump heels. "I don't know why but somehow..... I look more natural like this."
Barbatos walks in carrying a tray of tea, looking up he stops in his tracks and his eyes scan over Diavolo's new feminine figure. "My Lord...? What did you do?"
Luci sighs as she grabs the tea and hands one to Dia. "Diavolo and I decided to surprise MC. After finding out she was bisexual but attracted to authoritative women, we thought we would give her a good shock. The only thing I wish I'd known before I drank the option was the fact it's permanent. Solomon kept that tidbit of information to himself until after I transformed." She spoke so nonchalantly and took a sip of her tea.
Barbatos just looks between Lucifer and Diavolo, he crosses his arms, smirks and shakes his head. " And here in this castle, I thought I'd seen it all. However, I suppose I missed out on the desire to be a woman."
Dia smiles and walks over to her desk, sitting her tea down. She opens one of the drawers to pull out a pink bottle. " Actually, if you'd like to join us, there's still quite a bit left in the bottle, you only need one sip, Barbatos."
Barbatos shakes his head with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. "I'm content as I am, ....I suppose I should be calling you 'My Lady' now instead of 'My Lord. ' That'll be an intriguing adjustment."
"Diavolo...? Lucifer? What in the hell....? Oh no." The three demons are startled as they had not heard you come in, let alone enter the castle. You blush as your eyes roam about Lucifer's and Diavolo's still imposing but female bodies.
Luci's calculated gaze remains on you as your nose starts to bleed as many thoughts come and go in your mind. After several thoughts of a possible threesome with both Diavolo and Lucifer, you get light headed and pass out.
Dia was quick to catch you in her arms before you hit the floor, she picks your body up with no effort and heads to her bedroom.
Luci and Barbatos follow, as Dia sets you down, Barbatos pulls a glove off and he presses the back of his cold palm to your forehead. "Are you two absolutely sure this was the best idea? She's fine but she's trapped in a sex hazed fever dream."
Luci sits down next to your sleeping figure and she pets your head with a gloved hand. "Oh, I believe it is. We'll take good care of her." Dia sits you up a bit and moves under you to lay your head on her lap. "Barbatos, we'll need some tea from when she wakes, use the new kind, the one we've been saving for special occasions. She's going to be needing the aphrodisiac very soon." Luci smirks and nods to agree with Dia.
Little did you know you would wake up to a whirlwind of neediness and to two horny demon women. Are you prepared? If you aren't now, then you better hope you will be.
(Another trash post but I don't have anything better to do today so have some Horny Fem!Diavolo and Horny Fem!Lucifer.)

STYLISTA
Guess who got the Bootique Clawdeen.
Tumblr media
Let's have a wholly unprofessional and unsponsored review post!
Boring stuff out of the way first; she was on Amazon for $44.99 USD. She's currently on a 7% off sale so you can get the set for $41.85 USD.
Tumblr media
The back of the box shows off some styling ideas as well as a little blurb in multiple languages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sides have more styling options.
Tumblr media
The top of the box has a nifty little inventory of all the things contained within.
I didn't take any pictures of the inside but the doll, furniture and accessories were packaged very simply; the accessories were inside white paper bags, the furniture was strapped in to fit and Clawdeen had her own compartment on the left side. Not a display packaging obviously, since the box itself has no clear portions. On that note, I think the QC for facial screenings has gotten better, since Skulltimate Secrets and now this were packaged with no way to see the doll until you open the packaging. all the Skulltimate secrets dolls and this Clawdeen have perfect faces.
Tumblr media
This is how Clawdeen was packaged: wearing her purple jumpsuit, green belt, green earrings and the pink translucent booties.
Tumblr media
The doll herself does in fact have the torso joint. The lighting in my room is a little yellow, so you can't see it clearly, but her lid and undereye are lavender, with a magenta crease. Her lips are a much more saturated fuchsia red in real life. her hair is a berry color, with the light lavender color she typically gets. On the subject of her hair...
Tumblr media
...I am not an expert, i am just a doll-collecting homosexual, but it does NOT feel like the same kind of hair texture every other Clawdeen has. I can't be sure if its nylon or saran or whatever, but it feels denser and waxier than the polypropolene. It wasn't as tangled before or after a wash, and the ends weren't as frayed.
Tumblr media
You can see how it washed. This does NOT look the same as my other Clawdeens I washed, so take that as you will. I still need to reset the curl pattern, of course.
Tumblr media
On to the clothing. The jumpsuit is actually a pretty heavy and dense denim, in this purple leopard print with lavender and blue spots, and magenta and black slash marks. It has short, cuffed sleeves and a pointed shirt collar, and cuffs on the hem of the pant legs. the waist has lime stitching and faux pockets.
All of Clawdeens belts have 3 different closure holes, so they can be worn tighter or looser at your discretion. This lime green belt has a skullette buckle and a very long trailing tail.
Tumblr media
The booties are a light fuchsia with spikes on the top, and the heels are crescent moons. I know a lot of new MH shoes have interesting detailing on the soles, but these don't, probably because they're clear.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna do the outfit pieces in groups. The sweater is yellow, with blue, white and purple circle detailing. The chest has an aqua triangle, the same color as the slash marks. The collar, cuffs and hem are the same blue as the circles on the sweater.
The tank top looked black at first, but it actually has a very subtle bleach dye effect that looks like mist in the dark, it's pretty nice irl. The shirt also has a tri-moon vinyl on it, with a howling wolf on the center full moon.
Tumblr media
The green skirt is a lighter weight denim than the jump suit, with darker green spots and a frayed hem under a stitch. The cupcake skirt is in a metallic fabric with a slight blue shift; its really pretty in person. The waist is black elastic and the skirt is covered with criss-crossing claw marks.
Tumblr media
The dress is a one-shoulder thigh length ruched number. Because of the design, it doesn't look like much on a hanger but it sings on the doll. The dress is blue with purple and pink leopard spots.
Tumblr media
The scarf is hot pink with gold metallic flecks. The stole is a softer pink.
Tumblr media
If you're insane like me and already have Skulltimate Secrets Clawdeen, this bucket hat should look familiar. It's the same mold in a periwinkle blue, sans the leopard spots. The canvas and stitch molding is REALLY nice.
Tumblr media
I thought the boots had layers of fur, but theyre actually molded to look like slouchy fabric boots, with a repeating skullette pattern. The heels are lined in spikes, and theres a tie molded at the top.
The lime sneakers are the exact same mold as Ghoul Spirit Clawdeen, but in a solid green.
Tumblr media
The set also comes with 5 hangers for extra outfits. They're kind of swirly and dainty looking, more like g1 Catrine. They come in pink, lavender, purple, blue and green.
Tumblr media
Our girl comes with a lot of accessories! The lime green necklace, again, is the same mold as one that comes with Skulltimate Sectrets Clawdeen. Its a short chain with three dangling crescent moons, with a longer rope chain under that. The magenta necklace and choker are recast from her g3 signature; a circular moon pendant on a crescent moon chain, paired with a star choker.
The gold fur bangle is reused from her Ghoul Spirit doll. The magenta spiked cuff and purple cuff are new though. The magenta one is a simple spiked band while the purple has teeth detailing all around it, I did a terrible job photographing these so if anyone wants any clearer pics just let me know lmao.
The glasses are her signature glasses, in black. The magenta comb is a tiger-striped crescent moon with a studded handle.
The long gold piece is a hair barrette that says MONSTER. The long purple piece is a three-finger ring with the triple moon motif on it.
The black earring is a double crescent moon. IIRC this appeared first on Ghoul Spirit from this gen. The blue hoop with the dangling moon is also from Ghoul Spirit.
I didn't take close up picks of hem, but the green earings are a spiked hoop and a triple moon, recast from her signature earrings.
The gold belt has a double crescent moon buckle, mimicking the Gucci logo:
Tumblr media
Finally, her bag is a large tote or shopping bag, covered in the same skullette molding as her boots. The green "HOWL" is flanked by pink bands with small crescent moons, and the moon shaped handles have tooth details.
Tumblr media
The furniture she comes with are really cute and would look ADORABLE with her bedroom playset. The coffin-shaped clothing rack is studded, with the triple moon detail at the top. At the bottom are purple trays, and the lavender wheels do function.
The moon vanity has a circular mirror with two small shelves, a moon phases detail on the faux-drawer, and a moon shaped foot.
The pink stool has a starburst on the foot and the seat is molded to look like its padded or has draped pleats.
Final looks and thoughts in the next post!

Four Halloweens-Sashnetra
Happy spooky season! Set in the Wedding Planner AU, here's four Halloween-themed drabbles in different points in Sasha's life.
Thank you to @kitty-padilla for betaing ❤️
Featuring Beyoncé, Shark Tale, Pregnetra, and the search for the bestest pumpkin ever.
read on ao3
Sasha age 19, Halloween
This was Sasha’s first Halloween as herself, so she had to make it count this year.
Actually, this was her first Halloween ever, but that was beside the point.
Sasha’s been waiting nearly her whole life to wear a costume that she felt like Sasha in, so this would be a big moment for her.
Except that she had no idea what she wanted to be for Halloween. Or where she would wear said costume.
It took several weeks to scrounge up enough money to cover a costume. She took out some of the money she earned from her (very small) wedding photography side business.
But Sasha will worry about that later. First, she needed to scope out the local Spirit Halloween store and see their options.
Walking through the women’s section, Sasha wasn’t too impressed by the choices. Cheerleader, Disney princesses, and an entire wall of random skimpy costumes. She wouldn’t be opposed to wearing these specific costumes, if she was a little bit further into her transition and was happier with her body.
Sasha walked out of the store empty-handed and disappointed. As she turned on her old clunker of a car, the radio came to life with the top 40 station she always kept on. Upon listening to Beyoncé on the stereo system, she knew immediately what her costume would be.
Know that I can't get over you 'Cause everything I see is you And I don't want no substitute Baby I swear it's Déjà Vu
Sasha pulled into the nearest Goodwill and excitedly walked inside. She immediately went straight to the women’s section, dodging any older women who gave her a look for interrupting their shopping.
She searched through all the options on the rack and instantly gravitated to a shimmering silver dress. It’ll be some work for her, but it was the perfect option.
A blonde woman around her age looked at the dress from where she stood at the other end of the rack.
“That’s a real pretty one you found.” she said, with a deep Southern twang to her voice. “It’ll make you feel amazing, I promise.” She lowered her voice for only Sasha to hear.
This girl was just like her. Her hair was growing past her shoulders, and her makeup brought the feminine features out of her face.
“It’s gorgeous, but I’m using it for my Halloween costume,” Sasha explained. “But maybe I’ll try it on first, just to see it for myself.” She and the girl shared a knowing smile.
“It was nice to meet you, I’m Kylie.” The blonde said after they both checked out.
“Sasha.” She smiled brightly at her new friend.
After several days of cutting the dress and hand-sewing it back together, Sasha made it into a top and short skirt. She curled her hair into tight spirals and put on her outfit in an excited rush. When she looked at herself in the full-length mirror, a wide grin never left her face.
Sasha grabbed her camera from its case and started snapping pictures of her poses in the mirror. She had nowhere to wear this outfit, but she did not care if no one saw her right now.
Maybe one day she’ll have someone to share the holiday with, but for right now, this Halloween was all for herself.
Sasha age 27, Halloween
“What are you wearing?”
“No, what are you wearing?”
This was Sasha’s first Halloween together with her girlfriend, so they planned to wear matching couple’s costumes. But with whatever Anetra was wearing? Sasha was left very confused.
“You said you were going to be Lola for Halloween. Both you and Marcia told me about it!” Sasha said, crossing her arms.
“I am Lola,” Anetra said as she showed off her long white, flowy dress with thin red lines running horizontally over it. “That’s her name, isn’t it?”
“Baby, nobody calls her by her name. Everyone calls her the sexy fish from Shark Tale!” Sasha said with a playful smile. She knew Anetra grew up very sheltered and only started watching non-Christian movies soon before they started dating.
But she didn’t think Anetra was this out of touch with her generation.
“Oh,” Anetra said, eyes slightly downcast. “Is that why you chose that costume?” she asked.
Sasha nodded. “I assumed you meant Lola Bunny. So I wanted to surprise you with a Jessica Rabbit.” she gestured to the red, sparkly gown that she and Kylie worked on together making for the past week.
“We should have talked a bit more about this, huh?” Anetra said as she crossed her arms, slightly closing herself off.
Sasha nodded, “It’s too late for us to find a second option too.”
She and Anetra have only been together for six months, so their communication wasn’t perfect just yet. They were still in the very beginning of this relationship, and this was just a small roadblock for them.
Sasha reached out to hold Anetra’s hand, “It’ll be okay, maybe it’s going to be like a little inside joke for us?” she offered as the front door to her apartment opened, letting in Luxx and Marcia.
“Look at our Shark Tale group! We are so winning the costume contest,” Luxx said before their eyes landed on Sasha.
Silence fell between all four of them. Luxx was dressed in a fitted and bedazzled blue and yellow tracksuit, and Marcia wore a hooded shark-themed mini-dress.
Anetra spoke up, “At least you’ll be the hottest Jessica Rabbit there," she said as an offering to Sasha.
“Next year we’ll be sexy M&M’s. Easy, simple, and no confusion,” Sasha said as she grabbed her purse, ready to go to the party.
Sasha age 34, Halloween
Pulling her car into the garage next to Anetra’s (tarp-covered) motorcycle, Sasha felt mentally exhausted. For the autumn being the off-season for weddings, she had just put a busy day at the bridal shop behind her.
She met with several winter (and some Valentine’s Day) brides, helped with alterations while Loosey was out sick, and oversaw a Halloween-themed ceremony and reception.
She was mentally and physically exhausted, but it was a Friday and Halloween night. Kerri was going to a classmate’s party, and then spending the night with Jasmine.
Sasha looked forward to having a quiet night in with her wife as they would set up a bowl of candy outside, letting trick-or-treaters help themselves.
Tonight would be one of the last nights they’d have alone until their baby arrived in a couple more weeks. Both of them were needing a quiet and relaxing night before life with a newborn took over.
After putting her purse on the hook and placing her shoes under the bench in the mud room, Sasha followed a pair of voices down the hall toward her daughter’s bedroom.
Except the hallway bathroom with the light still on caused her a quick detour. She was about to feel for the light switch but looked in shock at the state of the bathroom.
Orange paint was in almost every spot. It was in streaks around the sink, the toilet, and some on the floor. Some of it was mixed with green paint and some with brown. Upon closer inspection, the paint looked like it was from a face paint kit.
“What’s with all the paint in the bathroom?” Sasha stood in the doorway to Kerri’s bedroom, looking at the two teenagers sitting on the bed, cross-legged.
“One second, Mama. We’re doing eye makeup here.” Kerri said without turning around, holding an eyeliner pencil to Jasmine’s eye.
While she waited, Sasha walked closer to the room. Makeup was scattered around the bed, but none of it looked like face paint. Their costumes were hung against the closet door, as the two were still in their clothes from school.
When Kerri finished, she looked at her mother, “We haven’t been using paint today, so I have no idea where it came from,” She shrugged as she looked at her lip glosses.
Sasha sighed, realizing that this was the not-as-easy part of being the parent of a teenager. “So neither of you know why there’s orange paint all over the bathroom?”
Both teenagers shook their heads, “We’ve been in Kerri’s room since we got back from school,” Jasmine added.
“I’ll just ask your mom then if she knows,” Sasha said as she walked back to the doorway, before turning back. “Where is she, anyway?”
“I think I heard her and Marcia go to the backyard a while ago.” Kerri said before picking up a small bottle of setting spray, turning her attention back to Jasmine, “Now, close your eyes and hold still.”
Several minutes later, Sasha opened the French doors to the backyard and saw Marcia and Anetra sitting in the still-green grass. Marcia sat directly in front of Anetra, while Anetra was facing away from Sasha’s view.
“One last line and...” Marcia said with a face of concentration. “…done!” she said, holding up a paintbrush with orange paint on it.
“Is that why the bathroom is covered in face paint?” Sasha asked, and the two turned to look at her. Despite the mess, she couldn’t help but smile at the two.
“Sash! Look what Marcia made!” Anetra looked at her excitedly, trying to carefully move herself around to show her rounded bump to her wife. Painted on her outstretched skin was a detailed pumpkin with a brown stem and green leaves on the outer edges.
“It looks nice, but why?”
“I know we agreed on no costumes this year, but I’ve been so bored waiting for this baby to come. We found this kit when we went shopping today and decided to put it to use.” Anetra smiled as she looked at the painting on her round belly, still holding up her shirt.
“I’ll go get my phone so we can take pictures!” Marcia jumped up and started walking back into the house.
“Aren’t you forgetting someone?” Sasha asked her.
Marcia turned around to see Anetra struggling to get off the ground, trying to maneuver her pregnant belly into a place where she could stand up. Sasha helped Marcia by grabbing one of Anetra’s hands and pulling her up to stand.
The bathroom could wait until later to be cleaned. For now, she might as well join in on the Halloween fun.
Sasha age 37, (a few days before) Halloween
“What about this one?”
“Too big.”
“This one?”
“Too lumpy.”
“How about this one here?”
“'Netra, I think that one is a gourd.”
“Oh.”
Sasha watched her wife’s face fall slightly as she placed the round gourd back on the ground. Feeling slightly bad for correcting her, Sasha placed a peck on Anetra’s cheek when their daughter wasn’t looking.
“It’s not your fault that toddlers are so picky.” Sasha pointed out as they continued to search through the pumpkin field. They had meant to spend the whole day doing different activities at the local farm that held a seasonal pumpkin patch, but they’d been stuck looking for ‘The bestest pumpkin ever.’
“It doesn’t help that she’s a little perfectionist like her Momma.” Anetra retorted, giving Sasha a pointed look.
Sasha knew that her wife was right. Their daughter always colored inside the lines, hated her food touching and had to have her toys sitting from biggest to smallest. Delia might look like the mini version of Anetra, but Sasha really rubbed off on her personality.
They watched as Delia carefully examined the pumpkins. The rest of the guests at the pumpkin patch slowly left to get on the hay rides back to the front of the farm.
“I’ll go talk to her, and you go get us a good spot on the next hay ride,” Sasha told her wife as they parted ways.
Sasha kneeled in front of the pumpkin that Delia just moved onto, and carefully rolled it out of the way.
“I can’t find the bestest pumpkin.”  The toddler looked at her, worry growing in her eyes.
Sasha held her hands out with the palms up, inviting Delia to hold hands with her. Smaller hands were enveloped by larger ones, and Delia had her full attention.
“I’m sorry, Dee, but the pumpkins aren’t grown to be perfect.”
“They aren’t?”
Sasha shook her head, “Nope. Pumpkins are like people. A lot of us aren’t born with what we like about ourselves, but we can change things to make us happy. Like how we carve pumpkins to give them smiles.”
“What do you mean, Momma?” Delia asked.
Sasha and Anetra weren’t ready to dive fully into explaining everything about trans people to their toddler, but luckily she hasn’t asked yet. They’ve collected some advice from other trans parents, so they were prepared when the time came.
Sasha looked over at Anetra standing at the front of the trailer, waiting for the hay ride to start. Then she got the perfect idea for an explanation.
“You know how Mommy has red hair and we have brown hair?” Sasha asked, to which Delia nodded.
“She actually was born with brown hair like us. But she realized that she is happier with red hair, so she keeps it that color.”
“Mommy’s hair isn’t really red?” Delia looked back at her in shock.
“Nope, but don’t tell her I told you.” Sasha playfully tapped Delia’s nose as she stood back up. “Now let’s find a pumpkin that we can make the bestest.”
The pumpkin they found had a too-short stem and leaned when sat upright, but they later cut and carved it into the bestest jack-o-lantern just for them.

People are more important than genders
I spent a long time questioning my gender and wondering if I was a deeply closeted trans woman. I didn't quite line up with what a man was supposed to be like, in my mind.
Everyone knows, after all, that a man is a tough, stoic problem solver who doesn't like girly shit and gets angry at the drop of a hat. He is logically oriented, he prefers to work with his hands, and he likes big tough macho media full of violence and shouting. He prefers to keep his friends and loved ones at an emotional arm's length, dealing with his problems on his own while being supportive to people who are weaker than him. He never quits or gives up on a project, he never etc etc etc etc.
Which is like...KINDA like me? I like violent TV shows and games, but I also find real world expressions of violence outside of fictional media to be profoundly disturbing. I like working through projects logically and with experimentation, but I often get frustrated and give up, which makes me feel like I've "failed as a man".
So if I've failed to be a man right, am I woman?
Well, no. Those are hardly the only two options. There are dozens of labels for sex and gender and orientation that cover choices other than "Man" and "Woman". My own sibling came out as non-binary a few years ago, which helped make me think a lot more about the options.
But I think there's more to it than just finding the right label to describe yourself with. I think that if you define a person by their label, even if it's one they chose for themself, you're eventually going to run into problems.
The human experience is infinitely complex, with every single person on Earth having a personal and unique relationship with the world and their place in it. I am a man. So is my roommate. What that means to me is slightly different from what it means to him. The word "man" is useful, because it gives a sort of blanket territory that you can use to describe yourself in relationship to societal constructs, but if you try to judge people by how closely they cleave to "man" as some kind of mythical ideal, you'll usually find some place they fall short.
Gender exists as a tool you can use to describe yourself, if you want to, but if at any point you think "Oh but I can't do THAT because a man wouldn't do that!" then you're limiting yourself for no reason. You do not exist to personify and abstract concept of masculinity. The concept of masculinity exists to help you understand yourself and other people. You can take it and throw out the bits you don't like, because you, as a human being with thoughts and desires, are more important than what your conception of the ideal man should be. Don't be like me and tie your mind in knots trying to figure out why you don't perfectly line up with what you feel like you "should" be.
I guess what I'm trying to say is like...men can use nail polish and wear skirts, if they want. Women can buy power tools and own a truck, if they want. You don't have to justify it to some perfect ideal that only exists in your mind. You can just do it because you exist and the ideal doesn't.

I'm a little late so I put a quick little something together.
Warnings: I don't want to go into detail but this is a smutty Halloween ficlet so enter at your own risk.
The Circle Has Begun
Arthur Morgan x ofc
The backstreets of Saint Denis weren't the best place for a woman on her own at that time of night. Luckily, the moon was high enough to illuminate her way. It bathed the streets with a eerie glow when passing through the fog rolling in from the bay.
A woman could easily run into a man with inproper intentions. In fact, she was counting on it. Since a run in with some of the other working ladies in town, she wasn't able to work out of the saloon. Selling her wears on the street was her only option. If she took someone to her lodgings she risked losing the roof over her head. That was not something she was looking to do on the last day of October, with the winter creeping in.
The street was quite, a few wagons carring deliveries on the deserted road passed close by. The sound of music and revelry came by on the breeze but other than that the night was silent. That's why it was so easy to here him approach despite his obvious desire to be as quiet as possible. He approached her from behind, clearing his throat to announce his arrival.
"Miss." He tipped his hat when she turned to him. His English was pleasantly accented. She'd been around enough to pick it up as a Spanish accent. "I hear you might offer some services I would like to acquire."
Mirth filled her at how he had described that fact that she was a whore. "I may be able to offer some services. Which particular ones would you like to acquire?"
A subtle blush came to his cheeks, taking a moment to study him she realised how attractive he was. Golden skin, soft brown eyes, full lips, a strong profile. Even the scar running down over his eye only served to compliment his good looks. "Whatever I can afford with this."
The money he produce was paltry. Nothing that she would care to earn on her back or even her knees. She would offer him her hands and nothing more for that amount. He readily agreed, handing over his money before she'd even touched him. She wasn't sure if that endeared him to her or made him a fool. She could easy pull out the gun on her thigh and take his money.
"Can I touch you Mi Amor?" He asked so earnestly she was tempted to say yes.
"No, you can keep your hands where I can see them. Follow me handsome." She took his hand in hers, a small gesture on her part for the handsome stranger. It was large and warm around hers, she found herself regretting her earlier words.
Backing him into a quiet corner she began to undo his dress pants. He hissed as she pulled his length out, he was already half hard and already an impressive size. She rued his lack of money. When she spit on his length he moaned deeply. She felt it in her chest and some other parts.
"Did you like that?" She purred feeling him grow even harder in her hand.
She took care of him quickly and expertly. Wiping her hands on her skirt, she lead him out of the little alcove, showing him back to the road. He said goodbye with a dreamy lilt to his voice before heading on his way. Turning back she let out a small yelp as she bumped into a man.
Arthur had been watching from the shadows. He knew it was wrong but he was an outlaw in so many was now, it seemed absurd to be worried about getting caught peeking. He watched her walk down the alleyway. She was beautiful. She carried herself with such grace, her long neck turning left and right, looking for a convert little place for her tryst. When she returned to the same spot with a man a while later, a pang of jealousy stabbed at Arthur. He knew he should have approached her earlier. It wasn't what he was here for but he'd be a fool to past it up when she was serving it up on a plate for a few easily robbed dollars.
His cock stirred as she took the other man in hand. Arthur imagined how warm she'd feel against his cold skin. How she'd draw pleasure out of him with practiced ease. He had to rearrange himself when she had spit on the man's cock. When her hand started moving she whispered dirty sweet little nothings in his ear. Does that feel good? So hard for me. I want to see you come.
As her movements sped up so did the Spaniard's mouth, he begged to see her tits. Just see them, a memory to keep him warm on the encroaching cold, lonely nights. She'd hesitated, it made Arthur strain against his jeans with need. With a devilish smile she'd pulled at the ties holding in her heaving bosom, exposing herself to him as the fabric fell away.
"Mierda!" The man came, spilling on the floor of the alley. Arthur had to squeeze the head of his cock to get some relief. He pictures her breasts bounce in time with his thrusts as he took her roughly right there in the alley. After covering herself up, she had gently tucked her customer's cock away before wiping her hands on her skirt and showing him out. Turning back she walked straight into him. The bastard Arthur had been waiting for.
"Ma'am. Stay back now." She gasped at Arthur's voice, not realising he was standing there. Her eyes darted between the two men seemingly deciding who she should be more scared of, she backed away from both of them slowly. The gunslinger approached the pale unusual looking man. Before he got too close the pale man flew at her frighteningly fast. His hand gripped her neck, raising her off the ground, two long teeth protruded like wolf fangs from his mouth. "Let me give you a gift my dear. The sweet release of death." Opening his mouth wide, she became convinced he was going to bite her. Thankfully, her suspicions were never confirmed as the vile man met his end at the quick hands on the gunslinger. Four round sunk into his body in quick succession.
Rubbing her neck, she took a moment to try and make sense of what had happened. All she was sure of was that the man in front of her had saved her life.
In a burst of gratitude, she flung her arms around the man. "Thank you. Thank you."
The way he sniffed her hair as she hugged him set her private parts tingling. "It's alright Miss. I'm just glad I could kill him this time." He gently place his hands on her arms to calm her, holding her gently.
"This time? You've seen that thing before." She shuddered at the sight of the dead eyed corpse on the floor.
"I have. Unfortunately, I wasn't quick enough to kill him last time we met. The bastard killed me first." Her blood turned cold at his words, the same blood ran over his chin moments later when he ripped open her throat.

Scary Marlowe - cosplay breakdown post
how did the original post get 200+ O_o' ... wow ok... did say a long post would happen if it did, so here we go!
The ultimate joke: this Seeker of Darkness was supposed to be a "closet cosplay" Spoiler alert: no, it wasn't
rest of photos frm prev posts: [ post 1 ] [ post 2 ] [ post 3 ] [ post 4 ] [ post 5 ]
PS: hopefully this outfit ramble will be useful for anyone's attempts? ✺◟(^∇^)◞✺ yeah, everyone else plz cosplay these dorks too!! This nerd is desperate for others to photos with
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original plan: buy the Scorpion Slut shirt from the DnDaddies site, pair with whatever own, ??, Profit! oh right… Unisex sizes are a lie, not with my build. Not buying legit merch to have to disassemble & destroy (unless someone wants to buy it for me ... j/k)
No big deal, there's another still-easy-enuff second option. Lets look at the podcast official art*nods* right.. shirt with words on it, can manage this Went and bought a rando t-shirt size too big, cut off the long sleeves, started figuring out the words placement. Absolutely took too long getting the letters Exactly Right - in both duplicating the font AND spacing out the words (busty girls, ya know the pain of prints on tshirts)
Tumblr media
Then had a minute when forgot how to letters, while trying to draw a nice "S" (resisted the urge to make the meme-S. My girl would not be that mainstream)
The "stencil" is on freezer paper, any white markings is just soap fun sewing trick: if don't wanna go buy specialty pencils or chalk - sliver from an old bar of soap works just as good!! Been doin this all my life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leave t-shirt for 24hr for paint to set (then its safe to wash)
Here's where things happen: personal headcanons for this chara start bleeding in Fanart exists and is frellin AWESOME
Headcanons bit first: Scary absolutely had to have PURPLE somewhere on her (because Warlock, patron 'pact' is a Purple Robe ..etc etc etc…) The t-shirt wasn't to be too badly damaged yet because wasn't sure if would find a full fishnet shirt to wear under it OR only like.. those cheap elbow-ish length arm-warmers. If a skirt was to be involved it hadda be plaid and match other shit in the outfit* She's also a former sports kid, which somehow overlapped in my head with her still owning like 'sport branded' clothes, and either cutting off or just like badly ripping out logos, this is why holes in a specific spot *Shut up brain, we aren't literally tryin to recreate what wore back in ancient days of 2003 with the shortest-sleeves tops and long-sleeved fishnet shirts under, it paired with plaid mini-skirts
blah blah saw a bunch of cool fanart, and it sat in the back of my mind, fermenting for a few days, adding to the mental image
Oh hey, my tshirt is dry now! Don't own a good skirt to use with this, lets go to the mall real quick This is where HT completely fails me by havin anythin plaid be themed with HarryPotter, and the only other skirts (that would fit me!) are tacky as fuck or in wrong print (am all about some cute Kuromi... but not today), also comeon… not spending 40bucks for something would literally wear once. Also apparently fishnet shirts aren't a thing right now???
Bought a skirt size 3X (aka too big) for $9.50 at some random place, purely because it happened to be the closest color/print was looking for.
Tumblr media
this is where pause for a second to blast whatever factory made it Their own site photo is already bad, but damn accurate. Didn't bother matching the print at the sides? You bet! Not even pretending to care with the waistband match seam! That model is also like 20feet tall, i promise on me skirt was knee-length
but why not just go buy some fabric and the conglomerate monoculture has made sure no small local fabric stores exist! the only thing left is Amazon (aka buy online, fabric dot com is them) or go drive like an hour to closest Joanns for some quilting cotton and pray for the best....
So anyway! now i have "fabric", can arrange a skirt
At first was gonna slap some elastic inside the waistband nope, it bulks up too much, plus the skirt is too damn long on me!
K, imma just rip off the waistband and keep the zipper in side-seam and refold.... why are the pleats 'drifting' off so badly???
OH RIGHT THEY CUT THE PRINT WRONG, and here I was tryin for the easy way of eyeballing it: folding fabric by orienting to the vertical stripes printed on it
Now this is gettin personal! It is 2 in the freakin morning, and it's seam-ripper time. Everyone plz visualize this gremlin sittin on the floor, balancing an iron on her lap, ironing out the fabric to start over
Took apart everything, cut off a portion at the top (didn't wanna deal with rehemming entire bottom later, so shortening skirt goin up instead), do some damn MATH and start folding pleats with a ruler Not trusting fabric to drift yet again, baste every thing down, press everything remember kids, hips to waist difference exist! if you're doing pleats Do fold at slight angle, pin both top and bottom of pleat "closed" and try on. If your math is right it will fit both at waist and hips w/out twisting outta shape Also, if you're gonna do any sort of temporary stitching, use obnoxiously contrasting-color thread! You want it Very Visible for easier later removal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
blah blah, trim the length off the waistband piece, sew everything together. Have a skirt now! Plain long-sleeved shirt goes under the black one. Now that shirt situation all sorted - took scissors to sleeves and whatnot. Fistful of safety pins to keep them together. Looks like my clothes are very red and black, so the PURPLE will need to be in hair
at this point we remember fanart exists... or more specifically @midnigtartist because I saw those space-buns and was like ... yes... fuck yes that's whats happening with my hair for the thing!
Tumblr media
Also since she drew that check-pattern belt, and im here like hmmm, wasn't gonna have a belt but do have one in that exact colorway... Why not!
Was planning on wearing bike-shorts under the skirt - but this fanart does bring a good point - leggings! Dug up some tights didn't really care for, stuck a safety-pin on one side (to mark where front is, and it just kinda lives there now), cut them shorter (again, just drawing lines on 'em with soap while wearing them) and then (as per that silly holes headcanon) carefully sliced in some tears
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now its just down to lil bits and ends ... and HT failing me yet again because apparently ridiculous bracelets with studs is no longer a thing, they all about cutesy mushrooms, charms and... wannabe bondage garterbelts and chokers? dunno ... is this what kids r into now?
Dug around my room yet again for things to use. The braided-looking bracelets were a gift from a friend just weeks prior. He bought a bunch of those online & they didn't fit him. Plastic "tat" bracelet & choker set have owned for ...ahem... that 2003 mentioned earlier The wide leather cuff came from a RenFaire visit over a decade+ ago. The strip with the studs is a broken headband (wrapped around my wrist, held by safety-pin pilfered from friend's wallet)
cheap purple hairspray from SpiritHalloween (is a damn biohazard! holds up tho), and instead of buying black lipstick just smudged eyeshadow on lips
too many steps for an image wanted to get outta my system because of ONE EPISODE but there ya go. Cosplay just be like that! (getting Scary & Terry jr picture, worth it!)
if you've made it this far: THANX FOR READING! HAVE FEW SNAPS

Hi! From The Masks We Wear:
“It was a rare treat to have her with him in the field during a mission, even more so given the fact that she was dressed so impeccably as a sleek and elegant black cat. Her satin gown was a different cut from the one she'd worn on that unforgettable night in Mendoza, but it fit her just as perfectly, with a mermaid skirt which hugged her curves deliciously, and a strapless sweetheart neckline. Her opera-length black gloves were another reminder of Argentina, and the addition of a pair of tastefully bejeweled cat ears on her head and a Colombina half-mask with painted-on whiskers rounded out the ensemble.
47 hadn't known what to wear, and she had helped him settle on a Phantom Of The Opera costume. Of course, it was entirely possible that he would change his disguise before the night was over, so who was to say what else he might end up dressed as? A vampire, perhaps? Or even a pirate? Those were quite common options, at least according to his research.”
Wondered what inspired you for the costumes specifically, but anything you want to share is great :)
Oooo! This is an easy enough one for me to answer since I wrote this quite recently. So, costumes. Background info, I have a diploma in fashion design, so costumes are my jam. I thought that a black cat inspired-outfit would be fitting for Diana; both sexy and elegant. I started with her Mendoza dress as a baseline, but changed the details to make it distinct from it. And I wanted it to stay classy - no tacky details that would take away from the overall effect (Diana would never!) I actually spent a bit of time researching Venetian carnival masks, because at first I was just using the term 'half-mask', but I wasn't sure whether that would convey that it was the top half rather than the bottom half. So I specified the term Colombina because that was closest to the look I wanted. As for 47, something about him dressed as the Phantom of the Opera just seemed really fitting. Full disclosure, I have never seen the play or the film myself, so I don't know all the details of the story. Out of curiosity, I read a synopsis, hoping that I could borrow some suitable detail, maybe incorporating it into the method 47 would use to take out the target. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to fit very well with what I had in mind, so I leaned into the stage magician aspect instead. Deciding on the magician costume for the target was sort of the first thing that came to mind, but once I had settled on it, it turned out to be really fun! I loved the idea that 47 doesn't know about the classic pulling a rabbit from a hat trick, and that Diana wants to surprise him with that by bringing him to a magic show, knowing his fondness for bunnies ^_^ It was also fun to think about how 47 would view the tradition of dressing up for Halloween. He's always putting on costumes and pretending to be someone else, so I liked the idea of putting him in a situation where that opened up a lot of options for him (though alas, he didn't make use of the opportunity in the end!) The idea of him putting time into researching Halloween beforehand just struck me as so endearing - like, he doesn't completely understand it, but he wants to know what people typically dress up as and such. Adorable! Other than that, one notable thought is that I was inspired by two prompts in the tagset for this fic - the one I filled mentioned costume parties, the full moon, and the details of a mission fic with romantic undertones. But Spicycajun also had a request that mentioned the Isle of Sgail specifically - and that location is one of my top two favorites from the WOA trilogy! (the other is Dartmoor, naturally) It also fit the 'old castle' suggestion, so it was perfect! :D That's the gist of it! Thanks for the ask and letting me ramble! ^_^

Heat Help
Hello!
I know this is an unusual post for me, and it probably won't reach very many people. But I’ve been seeing news about the really bad heatwave in Europe.
I live in a very hot area, where summer temperatures are regularly over 100 degrees F (40-ish degrees C). Last summer I had a job where I had to regularly work outside in the summer sun for hours and I thought it might be a good idea to post some of the things that helped me survive!
Of course this is all personal advice, if you think you’re in a medical emergency, contact a doctor immediately.
Hydration and Electrolytes
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, we all know that. But also make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes. When you sweat, your body loses electrolytes, and that can make you feel sluggish, dizzy, and tired.
You can drink sports drinks like Gatorade or solutions like Pedialyte. Some people also find that salt tablets help, but you should only take salt tablets if your health allows for it. If you’re not sure, ask your doctor first.
The best indicator of how hydrated you are is your urine!
Tumblr media
Gross but important! Your urine should be somewhere in the first four squares. If it's not, take a break, drink some more water, and make sure you're out of the sun.
Another good hydration test is the skin pinch!
My mom taught me about this one, she used to work in the hospital and used it all the time. You can also use it on animals.
In children and infants, dehydration can look different than it does in adults. Often, the easiest symptom to see in children is diarrhea or vomiting.
Sun Exposure
Often, sun exposure is unavoidable. So when you absolutely have to be in the sun, it's important to wear clothes that help your body breathe. By that I mean you want your sweat to evaporate fast so it can cool you down effectively.
The best clothes for this are loose fitting, natural fiber (especially linen or cotton), light colored clothes that cover plenty of your body.
The most important thing is to not wear something that's too restrictive or uncomfortable. I like to wear loose flowy skirts and t-shirts. My sister wears basketball shorts and tank tops. My dad has a manual labor job and has to wear full length pants but always wears loose cotton t-shirts. It depends on where you are and what you're doing.
Hats are important, the best ones have wide brims and breathe well. Straw sun hats are my favorite, but anything that keeps the sun off of your head and lets you sweat will work.
My dad and I used to take dish towels, wet them in the sink, and wrap them around our necks and faces. It will both keep the sun off your head and neck, and cool you down.
Sunscreen. Is. Important. Sunscreen is important even if you don't think you need it. Sunscreen is important no matter your skin color. Anyone can get skin cancer. Everyone should be wearing sunscreen.
If you can, try to stay out of the sun when it's at it's peak. Here, that's usually from about 10 A.M to 3 or 4 P.M, but that might change depending on what time of year and where you live. If you have to be outside, try to stick to early in the morning or later in the evening.
Tumblr media
Food
What you eat is important, especially in a situation like this.
Personally, I find that the heat makes me nauseous, so I tend to eat small, hearty meals throughout the day. I tend to stick to fruit, nuts, and whole grains because that's conducive to my diet and my body seems to like it.
Fruit particularly tends to have a lot of water, and some electrolytes. So if that's an option for you, I recommend it.
Foods with dietary fat and complex starches (certain fruits like avocado, whole grains like oatmeal, nuts, fish, etc.) are more filling, and they tend to give you more energy throughout the day.
Try to stay away from empty calories. And try not to drink too much alcohol, alcohol will dehydrate you.
Rest
Sleep is difficult when it's hot out, I know. I used to keep a spray bottle next to my bed and I would spray down my neck and face to help keep me cool until I could fall asleep.
Sleeping with a fan on helps. I know some people say you'll catch a cold if you sleep with the fan on, but I've never had that happen as long as it's not on the fastest setting.
When it's ridiculously hot outside, I like to sleep with wet or damp hair, it helps keep me cooler at night. If that's too much for you, you can also put a couple of ice packs in your pillowcase a few hours before bed.
Sleep is important, your body uses a lot of energy to keep you cool.
Comfort
More specifically, airflow.
If you're not outside, you're at home and there's no air conditioning, your biggest ally is good airflow.
Ideally, you want as many windows open as you can. I understand that sometimes that's not practical because of safety. Even if you can't have your windows open, turning on any fans in your house and keeping the interior doors open will still facilitate some airflow and help keep you cooler.
Particularly if you live alone, make absolutely sure you close any windows and doors at night before you go to bed.
If bugs are an issue where you live and you don't have screens on your windows, you can buy or make adjustable window screens.

If you live in a building that does have an air conditioning unit, but it's broken, try seeing if there's a 'circulate air' option, that will keep the fan on even if it's not cooling the air.
I often see people give the advice to take cold showers. Ugh. Don't start off with a cold shower. Start off with a comfortable lukewarm shower and slowly turn it colder and colder. It'll be less of a painful shock.
If you do plan on getting an air conditioning unit for a space that doesn't have one, your best bet is probably one of those chunky box ones that sits in the window.
If you live in a very dry area, a humidifier may also be a good idea. My parents went to college in Arizona (the middle of the desert) and they had this thing called a swamp cooler, which was like an air conditioner and humidifier combined.

New project idea + rambling about it under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quick sketch of how I wanna alter this light-weight cotton dress I've just had laying around and never wore (^◇^;) I'm turning it into a simple JSK since the skirt is suuuper full and would definitely work with both an A-line and cupcake shaped petticoat once I'm done!
Ignore the lack of ironing, I just took it out of storage to make a concept sketch, and the iron is in a completely different part of the house, LOL.

Skirt and bodice:
My biggest issue with it is definitely the waistline, it's wayyy too low, like, it literally hits at my hipbones ( ;;;・∀ ・).... It's def not the look I'm going for and makes my legs look SO SHORT... So, it has to move!
Because of the length of the skirt (58cm), I don't think I'll have to lengthen it more for my proportions, but I might add lace to the bottom just so the edges stay a bit smoother along the bottom edge, since it's a very light fabric and doesn't want to lay flat or stretch out to its full potential without rigorous ironing, and I fear it might flip up without me noticing if I don't add some weight (((╹д╹;)))...
There's stitching around the bust that used to be with elastic thread, but the previous owner must've thrown the dress in the dryer, because the thread's completely busted! I didn't even realize it was elastic thread until I looked closer and saw the sad elastic sticking out all crusty, stiff and crumbled. I'll have to remove these lines of stitching, and if the holes don't go away with a round of washing and ironing, I'll cover it with some ribbon insert lace!
(There's also the tie in the front, and though it's very cute if worn without a blouse, it looks pretty cluttered with one, so it's likely I'll sew the gap closed, and cover the seam with a bow instead.)

Sleeves:
The same tale goes for the sleeves, the edges have the same sad busted elastic thread, only replaced with elastic on one edge by the previous owner. So, I'll either replace the elastic with a sturdier one, or make the gathering non-stretchy. Or just remove it altogether and sew it back on as a dedicated ruffle instead...?
For the sleeves I'm also thinking of other options I could do, the simplest being to cut them off and turning them into more basic flat straps like an average JSK would feature. Although if I do that I might as well line the whole bodice while I'm at it, since it could really use the added reinforcement with how heavy the skirt is!

If anyone sees this post (which, to be fair, is unlikely), feel free to come with suggestions as well, especially for the sleeves since I'm pretty lost with what I should do with them! I'm looking around Lolibrary for inspiration, but I'm not sure what else would work for this material and style so far, so input is heavily appreciated!
