WIBTA for leaving a DND campaign abruptly?

Some backstory: I had joined a DND game about 5 years ago right after breaking up with my toxic ex at the time. Me and my ex were both trying to be cordial at this time and ended up both joining a DND game run by a mutual friend.

In our first session, I had noticed my ex made her character be a parody of me that she made look like an awful person. She then kept dm-ing me during our sessions to tell me how to play my character better and other general backseat gaming stuff.

Very quickly, maybe about a month in, I contacted the DM about leaving the campaign due to wanting to distance myself from my ex. She was very upset I wanted to leave and offered to kick my ex from the group instead. I declined saying it would only cause more drama. The DM agreed to let my character go off at the end of the activity we were gonna do that session so it would make sense story-wise.

But this departure did not happen. after that conversation she vague-posted onling about how people dont want to be her friend. She then purposefully kept extending this part of the plot, just so I wouldnt leave the game and could realize it could still be fun. I told her outright I could not do this anymore after 3 more additional sessions and telling me she'll get to my character's exit soon. I always felt like an ass to the other players in the game for leaving them abruptly but I could not do it anymore.

Fast forward roughly 4 years, the DM tells me she is going to make a new campaign and would like for me to join since my ex was no longer in it. I agreed as I had missed playing DND a lot.

For the past year or so I have been in this campaign and it can be fun at times but I still feel out of place. This new session is a direct continuation of the previous campaign's storyline and regularly references it. Now, as far as I know my ex's character has not been referenced at all but I am constantly reminded of this situation whenever they mention a character's name I don't remember (because honestly I don't remember her characters name nor do I want to). I know I said to not bring her up around me but I don't quite trust this friend to keep her word. Simply because I don't think she ever remembers anything I tell her out of a place of... just not caring.

The DM and I just don't quite mesh that well. I don't really like her DM-ing style of making it up as the session happens. I don't like that she will constantly decide what my character is doing, even if I ask to do something, she tells me to roll to see if i can, i can get a nat20 and she will still decide what my character will do next based on what she thinks is funnier to her but makes my next action harder to accomplish.

I have dm'd her to talk about the progression of my character arc (after she constantly implys in session my character is the comedic relief and doesnt have any character development) and she'll go ooo and aaa (literally all she would say) but never actually implement anything I recommend.

I kept saying to myself it will get better in time. I have voiced my wants for my character, and they are ignored. In session, my character actions are essentially decided for me no matter how I roll the dice. It feels weird to be around half of the party bc they spent 4 years in a campaign with my ex who played a parody of me. esp hard after the DM keeps making me be the comedic relief even though I keep trying to play more seriously. other players constantly joke about how my character is gonna be the one that gets them all killed etc because of actions I dont necessarily decide.

Now as mentioned before, DM is also known to vague-blog about how "her friends secretly hate her" at any moment as well. This has happened before after I tried to "real talk" with her a handful of times over unrelated topics too (even if she initiates this conversation)

Given everything above, I want to leave this DND game after giving it a try for a year (really giving it an opportunity to improve). We left off with my character running off alone to get supplies for the party. I was thinking I could make a statement saying I had some personal things come up and I need to leave the game abruptly and leave it to the DM to decide what to do with my character.

Now I feel like I may be the AH because: I am leaving the game abruptly for a second time technically. I would contact the DM on how to make it make sense for my character to depart, but I feel like she will do the same thing as before with the previous campaign and keep putting it off, especially after ignoring my character growth ideas for a year in this current campaign. I also feel like I may be the AH because in character my group does need those supplies, but there is nothing stopping the DM from controlling my character to deliver supplies within the first 5 minutes of the next session.

This game proved to the public at large how devastatingly *good* the Foxes were, because of their small size. The second best team in the league crumbled playing the same conditions the Foxes did *every game* and got to championships with. They proved that Foxes were, in fact, a D1 team who earned their keep.

a hot take that shouldn’t be a hot take at all but here we go: the writers didn’t ruin the wheeler siblings y’all just like living in headcanons, but hey whatever makes you happy, just don’t be annoying about it when people point it out.

mike was always this little shit kid that when he gets angry he lashes out a bit (just like max btw, they’re twins) but he always apologizes, always tries to make things right, he’s not perfect, he’s a kid, and don’t use the “but person A it’s also a kid and they don’t act like that” bc here’s the thing: they are ALL different from each other, if u don’t like the way mike acts then u can always stan another character, there’s more 3 boys in the party you know, also the whole “i want season 2 mike back” is insane bc season 2 mike was depressed and going through heavy ptsd after losing el/seeing el dying in front of him, he literally said to will that he was going crazy bc of it, and ALSO he was treating max badly bc of that, max who was just trying to fit in, but almost no one complained bc he was being gentle with their favorite, but then again, many people from st fandom doesn’t care abt women am i right? as long mike is treating character A nicely is fine. like i was really upset bc he didn’t go to lucas’ game, A LOT btw, but dustin didn’t go either so why is always on mike? y’all punish him way too much, also while i do agree and said many times how i want more plot for mike like in season 1, him being the leader of the party and all, we also need to accept that el is part of that, his character was created in love with her, loving her is part of who he is, i think finn wolfhard said that if i’m not mistaken, we can root for him to get more plot and more screentime, having more scenes with the party, but loving el is NOT GOING TO CHANGE and that doesn’t ruin his character bc THATS WHO HE IS, he loves her since season 1 and will love her until the end. u can dislike it, of course u can, u should ship what U want to, but dont make things up about his character to fit ur own narrative.

nancy from season 1 to season 4 remains the most badass and independent women from this show (besides joyce, and el, whos also independent af), if there’s one thing nancy’s character will NEVER lose is her independence, no matter how this love triangle ends, she’ll NEVER lose her independence bc that’s just how nancy is, nancy wasn’t reduced as a love interest, her love life is just a tiny part of who she is, this girl has been character-driven from day one, and being in love with jonathan or steve won’t change that, nancy was ALWAYS bigger than her love life, she’s REALLY important for the plot, u just need to WATCH THE SHOW to know that, but y’all need to accept that being in love with jonathan or steve (we don’t know yet how this plot will end) is part of her. female characters can be in love and still be badass and independent just as they can be soft and kind, stop making them choose. s4 nancy was a masterpiece, she gets better and better every season. and whatever life SHE chooses, i know she’ll still be kicking ass and taking names bc THAT’S nancy wheeler and nothing will change that.

he went to the shitty french restaurant to meet with tigre about paying off his debt but LITERALLY SECONDS BEFORE TIGRE WAS ABOUT TO GET HIS HANDS ON THE VIRUS AS PAYMENT FOR THE DEBT. I am so so sorry for the fact that I am sending a second (long) message right after the 201 report BUT i had to share this as well. So after he had a meltdown over 122, he called our mom to tell her and I quote ‘something horrible happened’ and obviously she panicked bc like I said he had a surgery and it was a pretty serious one. And when she asked the usual mom questions aka ‘are you okay? Is your sister okay? Is it your recovery?’ And when he replied with the level of enthusiasm one would have for eating garbage, she went ‘THEN WHAT HAPPENED?!’ And he said to her ‘so theres this guy Brian..’ and then told her the PLOT OF THE SHOW and finale which was his breaking point few hours ago if you remember. And then the exchange between them happened that I sent earlier (we watched 201 literally after their call) Anyway, we finished the ep and i received a long call from my mom where she got upset with me for upsetting my brother earlier (who keep in mind is in recovery so he’s even more annoying than usual and is also full of pain meds since he has to take several) with a tv show and she made me promise to not do it again or to at least stop him from calling her bc she will not pick up anymore bc and i quote ‘i do not have the time for gays on tv to make my life hard, you clearly have that covered right now with what youre doing to your brother’ and then what followed was a random text from my dad that said ‘your mom waited for me to come home and now she wants me to tell you to stop upsetting your brother with gays while he’s high. He better not come crying to me about this because I am going to have a nap’ …PLEASE take a guess what my brother proceeded to do exactly 2 minutes later?

It was genuinely hilarious. It went a little like this: brother calls dad on speaker from the other room, B: ‘Dad?’ D: ‘oh for fucks sake! No! No! Noooo! I was napping! I dont care anymore, go annoy your mother with this’ B: *loooong silence* ‘…she’s not picking up’ which followed with my dad hanging up on him and me getting a text from my dad that just said ‘i hate both of you’

okay so like a couple months ago I posted that I really wanted to write an NCT MARVEL AU FF... I love how you write everyone in the story, they are so incredibly flawed and fucked up and human that it just makes me shed a tear. Thats why MC frustrates the HELL out of me, even though I adore her. Her flaws make my ass itch but all i want for her is to heal and be happy in the end (same with the others! I be wanting to punch the shit outta them sometimes 😭)

ESPECIALLY Hongjoong cause my guy is just unhinged but i love his character the most honestly because unhinged is hot to me. Im still kicking my feet and twirling my hair lmao

i'm so touched you think so, i really love evoking emotion out of the reader in my works and i'm glad that im effective in doing so <3 one of my goals from the start of writing moc was to create an mc who isn't always likable or enjoyable to read bc i find those sorts of stories unrealistic and sometimes boring, because even tho the setting is very much not real, having characters who do feel real has always been huge to me! i love creating characters who have peaks and valleys, who grow and stumble along the way, and to really show a journey of growth!! hongjoong is just. pure insanity at its finest LOL he's gonna take a lot to fix but we'll see!

i honestly had way too much fun writing that chapter too, i love love looooooove a good hatefuck and it was just too tempting to NOT do >.<

it was fully intentional to sort of bring the readers in on the manipulation yes hehe! i like playing my cards very close to my chest and not giving anything away until the absolute last second i can!!! i think you hit on something lots of people who want her to just give into hongjoong forget - she's experienced so much betrayal from the people she trusted most and that does really stick in the brain and cause lasting trauma, and our poor mc is deeply traumatized by many things that have happened to her! it only makes sense for her to be retaliating and distrustful of those around her in these circumstances!!

I think Malachi sometimes loses feelings in his fingers, or limbs, or entire body, as like an after effect of being a ghost for so long

I also think he's always very cold bodily

I also think he has a slight panic response if he's in a snowy area for too long

I also think his magics are more based on emotions he feels then other people feel. Like a forced empathy thing. If he's scared he can make other people scared & see what makes other people scared. If he's happy he can do the same with happy feelings and what makes other people happy.

I also think he's scared of his own magics which is why fear comes so easy to him

I also think he has abandonment issues

I also think he age regresses as a coping mechanism

I also think he's distrustful of Aphmau when she comes back from the Irene dimension bc she had abandoned him and Levin. Whether she had meant to or not

I think after Aphmau comes back from the Irene dimension he has difficulty trusting any promises she makes because she couldn't keep the promise she made before the Battle at Phoenix Drop

I also think he and Levin were codependent for a long while

I also think that he should've had his own house or at least his own room by the time Aphmau comes back from the Irene dimension

I also think he Parentified himself because Aphmau told him that he Had to take care of Levin while she was gone and he felt like somehow he had messed up and thats why she didn't come back

i love this so much. LEGIT. it's bothered me sm that he suddenly becomes a human and that's that? like is that it? no side effects or anything? in mcd there only seems to be consequences to magic when it is convenient to the plot and i want to change that. i love these hcs so much bc they give him setbacks that dont seem too much but can heavily affect him.

i feel like these symptoms do get worse the more stressed he is. just imagine him being extremely stressed and levin points out "malachi? you okay?" "huh? yeah why?" levin points at his hand that's slowly turning translucent and it's just. the total fear just fucking hits him, oh my god im turning into a ghost again, and that fear kicks in just makes it absolutely worse. he starts to feel colder, his emotions are out of wack so levin is just as fucking terrified, he starts to lose feeling of his limbs, it's just a chaotic and terrifying moment for anyone around and FUCK. FUCKING FUCK. im gna cry oh god.

malachi feeling like he has to take charge because that's what their mom told them to do before disappearing is one of the biggest reasons why he is the way he is? i feel like when aphmau disappeared, he felt like he had to take care of levin, that he had to grow up because he's lived for hundreds of years, to suck it up because if he wanted to stay a human and not be abandoned by levin and zoey he had to grow up? he probably rationalized in his brain that it doesn't matter, he's lived for a long while, he's practically an adult now! i feel like even when aphmau was around, he still felt the need to be 'mature' so that aphmau and everyone around him can like him.

god and then i feel like.. malachi has mixed feelings when aphmau comes back. there's so much shit he's feeling right now. is it happiness bc their mother finally returned? is it anger because how dare she leave them? or fear because what if he didnt take care of levin well enough? what if she doesn't like the way levin grew up?

malachi to me, is someone who gagues his self worth on the things he accomplishes and his failure. and that's THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO WRITE- HE'S

Just wondering how u feel about the whole Nyx/pregnancy stuff? i havent read acosf but from what i hear this doesn’t sound at all like a lovely proof of love and care between feysand… i just dk how people can be so in love with nyx considering nesta had to give up her powers and feyre couldve died with nyx and rhys. And the whole « i didnt want to ruin ur joy » sounds off to me 🤨 like man you wouldve died on the spot with her anyway bc of that irresponsible bargain

now that i think about it? i think The Bumble Scene is actually the worst thing the warriors series has ever done. like, the bar is at the core of the earth at this point, and all of these examples are just as nasty dont get me wrong, but at least with the ableism, a good amount of the cats are shown to be in the wrong. at least with spottedleaf's heart, no one is telling spottedpaw she deserved to be groomed, and (even though it was obviously handled horribly and should not have been done at ALL) her abuser was at least shown to be a horrible person who deserved to go to hell. at least a good amount of the worst shit wc has ever done, like sandstorm's eugenics-esque line in squirrelflight's hope, can be edited out which theyre allegedly working on (not that i give them any credit for that).

but bumble? there is no silver lining. there is no possible conceivable way the so called protagonists come out of this looking good. there is no way the erins look good no matter how you try to frame the situation.

bumble walks into this apparently kind, "good" community compared to the hellzone clear sky is running right now, begging for sanctuary from her abuser, and the protagonists fat shame her, ask her why she doesnt play nicely or ask her abuser to stop, or just "sit and cope", constantly call her pathetic, and then forcibly escort her back to her abuser's home literally kicking and screaming. it is implied that her former "friend" turtle tail let this happen because she looked down on her and also was bitter that their abuser forced her to lie to her. it is also implied that wind runner, another "protagonist", does this so the group has space for her, someone who's more "deserving" because she can hunt and fight already. gray wing, the pov, despises bumble, keeps calling her pathetic and frustrating and fat throughout this, and comes out of this not concerned for her, but relieved that she is gone so he can tap that with turtle tail, and is a little concerned about tall shadow almost folding to let bumble join the group. she is shown to have escaped the house and is starving because she had no one to help teach her to hunt or assist her, nor does she have a home. they do not help her. they keep calling her pathetic. she then gets brutalized and left to die by clear sky who tells the most stupid lie that the protags instantly agree with. bumble is forced to apologize to turtle tail on her deathbed who goes "its ok but yknow you couldnt live with us because youre fat or whatever". gray wing calls her corpse sad and pathetic one more time for good measure. her abuser then comes around in the next book and literally lounges on top of her grave and mocks her. that abuser then gets taken in by clear sky's group where his children adore him and he gets a death by redemption saving them.

there is literally just the erins flat out having the narrative say "this abuse victim didnt deserve help because she was manipulated into a lie, and also didnt deserve to be with the good guys because she was fat and therefore not good enough for us. she was the one at fault for it all and the moor cats are awesome for inflicting tough love. forget about her now, lets talk about how sad gray wing is."

there is absolutely no fanon garbled reason you can invent that would make this better. this scene is important to the plot, so you can't remove it or the character. all of the protagonists for this arc, most of the characters who lived on the moor, have this abuse victim's blood on their hands and they couldn't care less

okay so for the record. what i know about battlestar galactica going into it: it's a remake of a series from the 70s; to my understanding, it's a slightly "darker" tone in comparison to other sci-fi shows of its time; ive heard vague, mixed things about later seasons of the show but i heard vague rumblings about farscape s4 & pk wars so idk what to think fo that; and that's listerally about it
