Okay so I finished TUA Season 3 today and none of my friends have yet so here is just, a ramble. Spoilers to follow of course.

- I mean right off the bat everything with Viktor’s coming out was perfect. It was realistic and given enough weight for, the fact it was an important moment for the character, without being a big flashy coming out arc. I loved all the siblings reactions - especially that Diego Luther Viktor moment of “Luther wants to throw you a big party so you feel loved”

- klaus. Klaus this season was everything I was missing from him last season - I loved last season don’t get me wrong but I had predicted a big Klaus powers arc that we didn’t get. Well we got it now baby. God I loved him. I do have to say that I was slightly sad we didn’t get a single Dave reference, and that we seem to have forgotten his substance abuse and the fact it was canonly to, keep ghosts at bay. Also not sure why the ghosts appeared so different in the Grave yard? Like the ghosts we have seen him see before look like normal people. But overall I loved his arc him suddenly finding himself alone for the first time since Ben died, trying to find purpose and just feeling really lost was done so well. It broke my heart how quickly he fell into trusting reggie like give the kid some ice cream and say one nice thing to him and he will, literally let you murder him. I had a sense he was being used and I was right damn it. I kinda wished he got a slightly bigger moment in the final with his powers but im so glad he got to be a key part of the solution. Also all the stuff with him and Ben was perfect Ugh my heart.

- dilf Diego was everything. I am, so mad that Stan wasn’t actually his kid but he was so adorable trying to be his father. I liked Lila last season but wasn’t totally sold on them as a couple but boy this season changed that. Giving me bisexual chaos couple energy I love it. Them calling each other sweetie etc whilst fighting in hotel Oblivion? Amazing. I also loved that we got a few little moments of Diego mammas boy Hargreaves his face seeing Grace again bless him. Also when he found out Stan wasn’t his and his stutter came out again Jesus I love Lila but man that was cruel.

- I honestly expected to hate Luther and Sloane’s relationship but honestly? It was kinda sweet. They are both just loveable idiot nerds it was cute. Luther in general has changed so much I am so glad he finally got to say his piece to reggie - even if he got stabbed immediately after.

Very happy Five got to get some sleep and get insanely drunk this season. And several outfits as well absolutely love to see it.

Allison. Look, idk if this is controversial but j kinda am here for her villain arc you know. Not in a sense of supporting it of course but just it kinda of, made sense to me. Again it’s something I had thought for season 2 before we knew any details about it - I had predicted klaus powers and Allison going off the rails without Claire. I have always find her power, terrifying, and as much as it’s horrible to see her use it against her siblings I think it was a fascinating look into how terrifying her power is. I have often thought the “I heard a rumour that you love me” we hear from her past was said to Luther, trapping him into loving her for years and years without maybe realising it. To me, this season confirms that.

I am really sad we didn’t get more of some of the sparrows, Jayme and Alphonso especially - also is it just me or Jayme definitely a lesbian? Yes? All in agreement?

That ending I just don’t know what to say really??? I’m both, scared and confused, but also excited. Like what the hell happens now? What the hell is with Ben on the train in the post credit scene?? Why did Ben stay but not Sloane?? Did Luther come back in his old body just because Tom couldn’t bare to put the Luther suit back on?? So many questions. Also I low key hate that klaus lost his tattoos he better get them back I swear.

I am a little disappointed that just as Klaus found his powers potential he, lost them? Like I really hope they get them back. And I don’t want a misfits situation no power swapping. I am concerned in the sense of I feel like this ending is the most blind I have felt about what could come next? But that’s also exciting so.

But yeah. Really really long ramble over.

long rant abt sh.ades of m.agic under the cut sorry

i’m 150 pages into the last book and honestly.............. this trilogy not that good lmao. maybe some my complaints will be resolved by the end of the series but seeing how things have gone so far i really doubt it. the premise and worldbuilding were so promising and i really like the whole concept of the four londons, i like kell’s character design and coat, and i like the way blood is used for magic but that’s where the good stuff ends. it’s a shame that the plot and cast can’t hold up to the core concept. lila is SO annoying and the way that the only major female character in these books has a hUGE ‘im not like other girls’ complex and actively derides other women and anything feminine and it’s presented as girl power is so bad and cringe. she walks around doing whatever illegal or self-entitled things she wants with no regard for the consequences and she never faces any consequences, from the law or from the narrative or from the people who care about her. her relationship with kell is weird too like they met and barely interacted before she kissed him and they suddenly start acting like their whole world revolves around the other. she’s sooooooooo mary-sue gifted like kell has trained his whole life to do magic so of course he’s amazing but lila has two (2) lessons with some annoying pirate and suddenly she can go toe to toe with kell and do insanely difficult magic without even knowing what she’s doing. it’s bad writing brent.

i do like kell though, even if he is a little boring, and i like the tight bond he has with his brother. i think kell is the only person with any common sense in this book and he’s a breath of fresh air. but DO NOT GET ME STARTED on the blatant favoritism the king and queen show for their biological son. the way they treat kell as inferior leaves such a bad taste in my mouth like it’s bad enough that you would have a blatant favorite but on top of it kell saved rhy’s life three different times and they can’t even say thank you or acknowledge his sacrifice?? they’re so cold to him and for what. kell basically died to save his brother and the parents respond by essentially grounding their adult son and it’s gross. and then rhy is every pretty flirty privileged boy stereotype rolled into one and he grates on my nerves and what’s really bad is that he has the EXACT same personality as his love interest which makes reading these books SUPER WEIRD because the two of them look physically similar and have become literally interchangeable in my mind. adding alucard (i hate that name so much omfg) to the cast was just adding a second rhy to the mix and he seems to have very little bearing on the plot. would it kill authors to not make every bisexual character a flirts-with-anything-that-moves stereotype. you should be ashamed of yourself.

also literally nothing of importance happened in the second book until the very end and there was actually no point to that entire tournament and most of the stuff could have been cut. holland is the only mf in this city i respect and the only one with nuance and a compelling character. i feel so bad for him bc he just cannot catch a break and everyone hates him so much even though he was being controlled against his will, and the other characters know this but they still abuse him. and there r a bunch of unexplained issues with the magic system (like how did athos dane summon a big snake???) and the power scaling (or maybe it’s just all thrown off because of lila’s supernatural gifting).

it feels to me like schwab was just like ‘uhhhhhhh what do people like these days ... people like boys with mysterious backstories so i’m uhhhhhhhh literally never gonna explain how my main character got his powers or where he came from. people like uhhhhhhhhhh strong female characters so my one and only female character of importance is gonna hate everything about being a woman. people like diversity so im gonna give them uhhhhhhhhh two horny bisexual poc men who are nigh indistinguishable from each other’ and hoped the story would write itself

#for a moment i thought maybe im just getting old and jaded and ive outgrown ya but then i remembered THIS IS ADULT FICTION #this is shelved alongside gaiman and pratchett and sanderson and le guin so like. step it up miss schwab #i really liked vicious #like A LOT #vengeful didnt do it for me tho #so i had hoped that i would like schwab's more recent stuff even if i didnt like vengeful #but nah #i should go read some stiefvater next because her prose and characters are incredible incredible INCREDIBLE #some of schwab's stuff reads kinda fic-ish #and not the tightly wrought fics that blow your socks off #it's like...... common phrases and conventions that i p much only see in amateur online spaces when describing characters or writing romance #i don't really know how to explain it i need to just go to bed

If you age up the characters, There’s a good chance you are incredibly horny. No seriously. I searched up the ship on AO3 and found that most to all of the fics I found on Alyadrien led to some smut story. If you like this ship and go on AO3, you can only be horny. Only exception applies to the next ship

If you ship the two of them as civilians, you have either have an interest in Cheating, or the idea of Alya stealing Adrien from Marinette ‘just because’. If you ship the two of them as heroes, you like the idea of them have a ‘friends with benefits’ style relationship where after a night of partrol they sneak off to romp.

The reason for shipping this three is the same as Alya x Nino X Adrien X Marinette, but you either thing Nino and Alya are fine on their own, and think that all three of the aformentioned characters are too sweet to think that any of them deserved to lose in the relationship. And that is perfectly fine :)

Alternatively, you could be a Chameleon salter who is still mad at the class, but considering you ship these 3, you probably aren’t as salty as other people in the fandom, and just want some actually fluffy romance.

AdriLukaMari (Adrien X Luka X Marinette)

Love triangles. Just love triangles. And one that actually has more than 2 people so its actually more angsty.

Alternatively, if you ship all 3 of them aged up, you probably think Adrien is a bottom in the bed ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Also alternatively, your fantasy is probably being swooned by two boys after your heart, but you are also a part BL fangirl.

Lukagaminette (Luka X Kagami X Marinette)

You are a Chameleon Salter, but you also probably hate Adrien, and by extension Chat Noir, and are probably one of the biggest salters that give the fandom its salty rep.

You absolutely go one AO3 to ONLY read salt fics where Lila gets exposed and defeated.

You probably read fics about Chat Noir being a stalker because you think flirting = SEXUAL HARRASMENT! You give Kudos for fics that either ‘make Chat Noir pay’ or take Adriens ring from him.

On that last note, guess who becomes the better Chat Noir?! (I am being sarcastic as hell, and of course its probably Luka)

You also hate the class and want them to either suffer, or apologise for hurting the ‘amazing, wonderful godess that is Marinette’ and kiss her feet like the dogs they are.

You probably have tunnel vision on Chameleon, and have failed to notice that aside from a that one episode, Lila hasnt impacted the show as much as you think she has in your fanfic.

You probably dont even ship Lukagaminette, because to be fair nobody ship this particular 3-pair, unless its one of the subships

You may also realized I tricked you, but I couldn’t exactly create a Salter X Salt ship, OC ships don’t count.

...Actually, there is one actual reason for liking this ship...BLUENETTES GALORE!!!

Lukadrigaminette (Luka X Adrien x Kagami X Marinette)

This is one of two things, either its the same reason as Alya X Marinette X Adrien X Nino where you just want all of them to be happy, or you are an ABSOLUTE SALTER who hates pretty much everything in the show (except Adrien) and so resorts to MAXIMUM FLUFF. the umbrella academy season two: my thoughts

OVERALL RATING: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5 stars)

NON SPOILER REVIEW: i had high hopes for this season, i’ll admit. i was excited to see the hargreeves siblings return! and in the 1960s, no less. the season seemed like it was revving up to be amazing at first but then everything slowly crumbled down. there were some redeeming moments, but i just didn’t vibe with the season by the end of the last episode. review with spoilers below the cut:

yeah, so... phew. this season was a Lot. mostly in a bad way for me but also in some good ways? starting right off, i was Very excited about seeing how the siblings lived their lives separately before being found by five and reuniting with each other. their outfits were all Wonderful (i loved allison’s hair) and i think the general 1960s setting was pretty spot on!

now for what i Didn’t like first lmao

klaus: he leaned so heavily into the “predatory mlm trope” this season that i had to stop watching a few times. first off, he goes after dave, who has absolutely no idea who klaus is. i can understand that klaus still actively misses him & loves him, but so many of their encounters are simply klaus talking to dave in an extremely overbearing way. another thing i didn’t like is how when ben was possessing klaus, jill stated that klaus had a threesome with her and that other guy with the glasses i think? i forgot his name. either way, that just feeds into the “slutty bisexual/pansexual trope” and i didn’t like it at all lmao ! also that comment about whether five would be a hottie when hes older or not was fucking gross as fuck & the fact that it was deemed suitable just bc luther/allison was brought up is so nasty!

this is still tied to klaus but his entire cult thing . i hated it. it came off as a mockery of hinduism and other more spiritual religions to me ! and sure its supposed to come off as a fake faux thing but :/ he literally bathed in the ganges river and im 1000% sure that was meant to follow the belief that bathing there cleanses you of your sins. the decor around klaus’ mansion and the music/general tones set for some scenes were also in extremely poor taste

allison: even though it had to have been included at some point solely because of just How The Hargreeves Have Powers, some of allison’s interactions involving the civil rights movement rubbed me the wrong way. the times she used her powers with things related to the movement (telling the cop to leave ray alone, the manager at the diner) just seemed like it was downplaying the actual struggles black people went through. there WAS no allison hargreeves back then that could just tell cops to stop harming black individuals. there was no allison hargreeves that had the knowledge that what they were doing would work. the thousands of black protestors who fought for their rights during the civil rights movement had no idea if their efforts would truly work or not, but they just had to hope. they kept fighting. now, i know allison could’ve helped in the sense that she could encourage the people around her that their actions were working, but again, the actual living people involved in the civil rights movement didn’t have that luxury,,??? idk something about it just didnt sit right w me and i feel like we were supposed to feel bad??? about her burning that white guys hand but i did not feel bad for the guy lmaooo make his hands Hurt ! and of course theres the nasty ass shit with luther still like :///

ben: ben... My ben... theres a lot of things i could touch on tbh . even though hes Been Dead and his ascent to the afterlife or whatever was most likely inevitable i really really wish we would’ve gotten more explanation on how he really felt ??? maybe im just forgetting shit already but what was the thing in san francisco he was worried abt ???? why was he attached to jill despite never speaking to her ,,,??? there are just so many conflicting traits with him tbh and i was Very Confused

vanya: i also had an issue w vanyas characterization tbh . i get that there needed to be a foolproof way for her to arrive in this new world and be “less volatile” than she was pre apocalypse but come on. She barely hit her head when the car hit her put some effort in. anyways i also want to talk about how she just. killed hundreds of commission workers w no remorse ??? like yeah i get that theyre the antagonists but this is the same vanya that felt so deeply angry and upset with her actions in 2019 that she felt she didnt deserve to live. she felt so incredibly bad for everything & now ur telling me that she killed that many people and didnt have any sort of reaction to it ???? Huh??

luther: i. this one is pretty self explanatory but i fucking despise the fact that luther/allison is still a thing in season 2

pacing: the pacing overall was just So Goddamn fast for me and this was especially clear in the last episode ! So much was going on !

writing: i do think everyone was like .. oddly slightly out of character?? like i know they were stuck in time for a while but even so we didnt really get Thorough details on their lives !! and also we didn’t get Any hints about lila being an october 1st kid so seeing that was just??? extremely confusing to me??? it seemed very sloppily put in

the humor: some of the humor was timed horribly & i get that theyre Siblings and i know siblings make fun of each other all the time but . god some of it was just Too Much

i was ✨not✨ ready for klaus to barf and i hated it 😺

as for what i Did like!

i did like how we got to see how the siblings reacted to their fathers abuse in different ways ! that scene w diego at the group dinner,,,, 🥺

how long has your character been here?

Lila only just arrived, and is honestly just trying to figure out everything.

what is your character’s job?

She’s a volunteer at the animal shelter, since she absolutely loves animals. She is also trying to be like a hero like her dad, and she’s doing quite well with that.

where has your character been pulled from in their fandom?

Lila is pulled a few years after ca:cw, and even though it was mentioned that she was disappointed her dad missed water skiing, but she understood why he needed to leave. She’s never really all that disappointed in her father, and still/always would think that he’s her hero.

has any magic affected your character?

Nope, Lila still has all of her memories.

any other information?

Lila is twenty three, so it’s been a good few years since everything that happened with the avengers splitting up, and honestly doesn’t blame anyone about it.

Since she did get her father back after all was said and done.

She went to college in California, since she always wanted to see what a big city life was like. Also, she figured that she could be a good enough hero like her dad and save people.

Little genius she ended up at Stanford, which was honestly a shock since she didn’t think she would.

She’s quite good with patching herself up, which is always a good thing in her line of work.

Never really told her dad what she was doing, mostly keeping her hero side hidden from her family, since she doesn’t want them to lecture her about it.

She’s bisexual, and filled with so much love to give.

Animal person through and through, and honestly loves all of the animals on the farm.

She taught some of the dogs in the shelter to be hearing dogs for the deaf, since she knew how much of a great help they’ll be.

Knows ASL, figured it’ll be a good thing to know in her life, mostly for her father lbh. She knows Russian, because of Auntie Nat and just because she wants complain about someone in a different language. Also, since it’s required to take a language in school she took two which was German and French for no reason but because she wanted to know more languages to help out people.

There were many facts in this world that could never be proven false. The sky is blue, grass is green, Chat Noir loved Ladybug, they were both bisexual, Marinette had a thing for blondes, and Marinette Dupain-Cheng was late. Again. For the third time this month. It didn't help matters that her first class was chemistry with Madame Medlenive. The purple haired woman had a temper hotter than any fire and an attitude stricter than an uptight grandparent. Therefore it was understandable, that when Marinette woke up and glanced at the time, she cussed a word that would make the innocent Chat Noir blush and stammer while scolding her. After letting out multiple merdes, she rushed through her morning routine, and made it to class in 7 minutes (it definitely did help that she lived right across her school). With three minutes until the bell rings, she ran into her class and caught sight of her best friend's fiery red hair. "- with three minutes to go, Marinette Dupain-Cheng makes the final touchdown! She made it! Against all odds! Now, Nino, I think you owe me a croissant. Serves you right for getting against my best friend." Making her way though the class, Marinette caught snippets of Alya's commentary and apparent bet. "You bet on me? I'm hurt. Anyways bonjour guys, I was going to ask you if you wanted to eat croissant and macaroons in the park at lunch, but seeing as you were getting on me, I'd rather eat them alone. Such a shame, my parents made an extra batch of chocolate chip cookies for us, but I guess I'll have to eat them alone." Marinette sighed as she faked a hurt expression. Immediately, three horrified faces turned to look at her. As of on cue, three looked at each other, and then at her, and then at each other again. The silence was broken when they all started pushing each other while talking to Marinette. "Marinette! My favourite person in this whole cruel world! The only one eho treats me right here! Hey, remember how much fun we had as kids when we played together?" "Shut up Nina. Marinette, my best friend. My one true love." At this Nino scoffed, but Alya continued unfazed by his reaction. "My bi buddy, remember how much fun we had on that one date?" "Marinette! My talented cute fashion designing friend who happens to be an amazing baker, have I ever told you how much I love our Ultimate Mecha Strike tournaments and how much I appreciate and love you?" Marinette couldn't help it. She lost it and burst out laughing. Her giggles invited her friends into joining her. Soon enough, they were all laughing in class. That was put to an end when Madame Medelenive walked into the class slamming the door with a sharp 'Bonjour'. Marinette spaced out after that, tuning every sound out except that of her teachr's, only glancing up every once in a while to take notes. Therefore it was understandable that Marinette squeaked when Alya shook her after she failed to answer her. "-inette? Marinette. Marinette!" The last sentence was shouted in Marinette's ears, nearly piercing her eardrums. "Ow! Ow! I'm here! Stop shouting," She whipser-shouted while rubbing her ears. She'd be lucky if her ears didn't ring for a few days. "Well, did you hear what Madame said? No wait you didn't, well, we're doing a project! With partners! Remember last project?" Oh. Oh. Of course she remembered. She had been partnered with Alya, Nino, and Adrian! It was one of the few times she looked forward to chemistry. She not so secretly hoped that they would be partners again. Her hopes would soon be dashed. "Today I want you to research Boyle's law, Gay-Lusaac's hypothesis, Avogadro's hypothesis, and the experiments that led them to make their conclusions. I will be grouping you into groups of two. You will have your lunch break to make a quick summary of your researches and you will have to write a paragraph on each topic and present it after lunch break. Therefore the rest of the day, until after lunch, is free for you to complete your research. Now here are the partners." Marinette hoped she'd end up with any of her friends, since the chance for a group project seemed to be thrown out the window to all four winds. "Adrien and Nino." The two boys high fixed and Alya and Marinette looked at each other hopefully. "Juleka and Rose. Mylène and Ivan." The girls grew excited, all their classmates were being partnered with their best friends. "Max and Kim. Nathaniel and Lila. Chloé and Sab- One minute," Madame Medlenive muttered the last part under her breath and continued, "since Sabrina is absent, Alya you can go with Alix and Marinette will be with Chloé. Any questions?" Without waiting for an answer, she said, "Good. Now pay attention as this information will be vital for your research. Now..." Marinette's mind spaced out again after hearing 'Marinette will be with Chloé'. It was true that the girl had changed her attitude last year. She wasn't annoying and bossing people around as much. Marinette suspected it was due to a certain model having a serious conversation with her. Still, they weren't exactly 'best of friends' but it was better than nothing, she supposed. She'll have to make do with it. Marinette had no idea how to handle this situation. Lunch came much faster than Marinette thought it would -or wanted to, if she was being honest with herself. While Chloé was packing her tablet and books, Marinette took a deep breath and steeled her nerves before approaching the blonde. "So, um, hey Chloé." The girl received a glance and a nod in her direction. "Since the project is due today, I was thinking we can start it now at my house, if you'd like of course. I get it if you want to go to your place if it makes you feel more comf-" The rambling girl was interrupted. "Okay." Chloé was finally done packing her bag. Marinette blinked. "So we're going to the bakery?" She asked. "Yeah. Daddy has a big meeting over at the hotel so its gkinh to be crowded. What are you waiting for, let's go." To say that Marinette was surprised with this change of attitude would be an understatement. She was more than shocked, she doubted words would be enough to describe it. "I'm done. Let's go." The two walked in silence to the bakery. The fact that it was right across the street meant that the walk was short, it didn't give them enough time to sort out their thoughts. Unlike what the half Chinese girl thought, her companion wasn't as collected as she seemed to be. In fact, if Chloé was anything, she was not collected at all in any way. In that moment, she probably was the furthest from calm and collected she ever was in her whole life. There were around two coherent thoughts in Chloé's mind, and they happened to be: I'M GOING TO MARINETTE DUPAIN CHENG'S HOUSE, and FUCK! Chloé walked through the house as if in a haze, only looking at the pictures hung on the wall, focusing only on the baby pictures belonging to a particular blue eyed girl. It seemed to be seconds before the duo reached the bedroom. Chloé looked around the room. It was very... pink. No, it was very Marinette. She could see hints of the other girl's hobbies. Chloé was brought out of her thoughts when the petite girl started speaking. "Okay so let's start. I'll get snacks later. Okay so Boyle's law is really easy, it basically says that the pressure and volume of a gas are inversely proportional. Avogadro's hypothesis might take some time though, and as for Gay-Lusaac's hypothesis, it isn't really hard so it will take less time than Avogadro. I think we should..." Of course she had to be perfect in everything she does. Of course, heaven forbid, Marinette Dupain-Cheng had to be perfect in everything she does. God forbid she isn't an amazing designer, or a talented baker, or a wonder, person whom everyone loves. Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise that Marinette is perfect in chemistry too. No surprises, she was talented in everything she does, she's smart and pretty and popular an - . "Chloé?" Shit. Okay Chloé, act calm and maybe she'll forge- "Are you okay, you look red." She inched in closer to the blushing blonde. Never had she ever thought that this would happen! Than anyone would catch her daydreaming! Especially the subject of said daydreams! She had to say something that would stop Marinette from being suspicious. "I-it's nothing. I'm not used to the heat from your ovens. That just it.". 'That should throw her off my track.' Chloé was sure that she threw all suspicion away from her. Marinette was confused at this point. When Chloé came over, she expected her to be cold and silent, not... that. She inched even closer to Chloé, as if trying to see in her mind through her eyes. Chloé? @panonne @chiimei thank you guys for supporting me and encouraging me to post it.
