The Nishinoya Family’s Chaos
Tumblr media
Pairing: Nishinoya X Reader
Words: 2.6K
Summary: You’re spending time at Noya’s house and all of his sisters are home for the holidays. Noya can’t seem to catch a break, but you’re easily amused by his family’s chaos.
Notes: Apparently Noya has 3 older sisters? As someone with 3 siblings I absolutely could not let this information exist and not write a fic with Noya sibling dynamic. The name and info on his siblings is all made up, as far as I know the only canon is that they exist! :)
Masterlist // Ko-Fi
The first weekend of winter break you and Noya had decided to spend Saturday relaxing and watching movies. Tanaka had given Noya several Netflix recommendations, so with plenty of options you were currently attempting to toss popcorn into Noya’s mouth. You had forgotten what Noya’d selected, but whatever it was had already lost your attention. Noya needed to inform Tanaka his taste in movies sucked.
You snorted as your popcorn kernel missed Noya’s mouth entirely and poked him in the eye.
“Nice catch,” you said sarcastically, closing one eye to aim your next shot.
“Nice throw,” he countered, tossing the dropped piece in his mouth.
“It was a perfect throw. Excellent arc and speed.”
“My reflexes are beyond human comprehension. I would’ve been able to catch a mediocre toss,” he lightly squeezed one of your shins that lay across his lap. “It’s okay. I’m sure you’ll improve with time.”
You grabbed a handful of popcorn and threw them at his face. “I think a few of them went in! You’re right, I am improving.”
Noya picked up some of the pieces on his chest and tossed them back at you with a glare, but you shielded yourself with your arms. You tried to pick up another handful, but he’d already tugged the bowl away from your hands to hold protectively against his chest. What a cheater, you thought, as he mischievously smirked at you.
“Hey, Yuu. Can you do me a fav-Oh, hey (Y/N)!” His eldest sister, Yuki, appeared over the back of the couch making you jump. You had nearly forgotten his sisters had all come home for the holidays.
“Depends.” Noya threw another piece of popcorn at your face while barely acknowledging his sister’s presence. After the piece hit you in the forehead you gave him a small kick to the stomach that he over exaggerated with a groan and an arm slinging over it, letting his tongue hang out the side of his mouth.
What a baby.
“I’m going out to eat with some friends,” she said, smirking at your guys’ display before pushing herself away from the couch. “I started a load of laundry though, so I need you to switch it to the dryer in like half an hour.”
“Why can’t Mina or Sayori do it?” He passed you back the popcorn bowl so he could look over the back of the couch and question Yuki properly. You had only met her a handful of times, but she was absolutely ethereal with her beauty, like, just not fair level attractive. Not that you didn’t find Noya attractive, but what the fuck. How had he lived with that for so long and still have self-esteem?
“Because they’re busy.”
“I’m busy,” he gestured toward the television with his thumb.
“You’re not actually watching it.” She said irritated as you heard a lot of drawers sliding open and closed. “It’ll take three seconds, Yuu. Stop whining.”
“What are you looking for?” Noya leaned onto his crossed arms.
“Dad wants me to take his car because of the snow, but I don’t know where he keeps his keys anymore.”
“Drawer by the fridge.” He said lazily as he flopped back down, picking up your feet to lay them across his lap again.
“Thanks,” You heard the rustling of a coat as she likely prepared herself for the weather outside. “Do you guys want me to pick you something up while I’m out?”
Noya drummed his hands against your legs as he thought before raising a brow toward you, but you lifted your hands while shrugging. You weren’t really hungry at the moment, so you wouldn’t be any help.
“Not sure,” he said without looking back. “Can you text me when you’re heading home?”
“Will do,” she said, and you felt a chill over your skin when she opened the door letting the cold air inside. “See you soon. Thanks again, Yuu. Love you.”
“Yeah yeah, you too.” He said while rolling his eyes. Noya shook the bowl around while he searched for the few edible ones left since throwing pieces around didn’t leave you with much actual food. When he glanced up he raised a brow at your fond smile. “What?”
“I just like seeing you be a younger brother,” you said, poking him in the nose. “It’s cute.”
“Don’t demean me. I’m the farthest thing from cute,” he pouted while grabbing your hand to make you cup his cheek. Yeah, leaning against your hand really helped prove his case. You leisurely rubbed your thumb along his cheek as he rested against the palm he held in place.
“My mistake.” You whispered. Noya’s eyes narrowed at your obviously teasing tone, but when they flickered down to your lips you figured he must’ve decided on giving you a pass.
“Yuu did you steal my fucking laptop charger again!?”
His hold on the back of your hand tightened slightly as he squeezed his eyes closed. After a long shuddering breath he gave you a quick apologetic smile before leaning back to glare at the ceiling where you heard aggressive stomping.
“No, I don’t have your goddamn charger!” Noya shouted while cupping his mouth. His head fell against the couch when the stomping moved toward the staircase.
“I told you to stay out of my room!”
“Why would I even want to go into that ugly ass mess!?”
“I’m in the middle of a fucking quiz and my laptop is dying.” His other sister, Mina, came stomping into the living space with murder in her eyes. You shrunk into the couch, but Noya just sneered back at her.
“I don’t even have it.”
“Well it’s not in my room and you always steal my shit.” Mina menacingly marched to stand in front of him with her hands on her hips. “My chargers, my leftovers, my clothes, my-”
“We’ve been over this,” he stood up so they were nose to nose. “If they were your favorite sweatpants you would have taken them to college. They were free game.”
“That’s not how it works!”
“Is too.”
“Is not you fucking shrimp!”
“You’re one inch taller than me!”
“One more inch I can use to kick your ass!” She actually cracked her knuckles before her eyes flickered to you. “Oh my god, (Y/N)? When did you get here?”
“Uh, I’ve been here.” You laughed awkwardly.
“Really?” She furrowed her brow before turning back to Noya and both pinching then twisting his bicep.
He squeaked. “What the hell?”
“Give. It. Back.”
“I. Don’t. Have. It.” He sneered, ripping her hand off him. They glared at each other for a few seconds before Noya sighed dramatically; leaving down the hall to his room with obnoxiously loud steps and slamming the door closed when he got there. You just shook his head at the childish display.
“So, how’s life?” Mina asked while taking a seat on the coffee table across from you. “Yuu treating you good?”
“Yeah, we’re great. He’s amazing.” You said, glancing down the hall where he was probably cursing up a storm.
“He’s a brat, but he’s a great kid.” She pointed a finger at you sternly. “Don’t tell him I said that.”
“Never.”
Noya came back empty-handed and you glanced back to Mina nervously. “It isn’t in my room.”
“You lost my charger?”
“That’s not what I-” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Are you listening to me? I don’t have it. Maybe you just lost it.”
Her jaw dropped. “So, you lose my charger and then try to blame it on me?”
“I didn’t fucking lose-”
“Hey Yuu. I need your help.” Came the voice from his final sister as Sayori wandered into the living room with her face in her phone.
“Oh my fucking god!” He dragged his hands down his face. “So, when I asked everyone to stay out of the living room did that just go over everyone’s head?”
“Jesus, who put a stick up your ass.” Sayori scoffed.
“The brat’s upset because I found out he lost my charger.”
“I didn’t lose-”
“For your laptop?” Sayori clarified and Mina nodded. “Oh, I borrowed that yesterday. It’s in my room.”
Mina blinked and turned to a fuming Noya. “It appears I may have been mistaken.”
“No shit.”
“I will be going now.”
“And stay away.”
She glared at him, but didn’t say anything as she went back to the stairs. Noya, however, like the bigger man he was, stuck his tongue out at her back as she was leaving. You shook your head again. Mina was double the hothead Noya was, so she was absolutely terrifying when angry. And Noya being as stubborn as he was just loved to walk the line.
Once Mina was gone Noya pushed past his other sister to plop sluggishly onto the couch and lay face first onto your lap, wrapping his arms around your waist. Your smile softened down at him and your hand automatically came up to run your fingers through his hair. It was one of your favorite things to do.
“Hey, (Y/N).”
“Hello,” You felt Noya’s annoyed grumbles against your stomach and you lightly tugged on his hair. He whined and tightened his grip around your stomach.
Sayori sat on Noya’s legs on the opposite side of the couch, making him yelp in pain. He tried kicking her off, but Sayori stubbornly didn’t move until Noya just ended up with his legs on her lap. You smirked at the scene while you just continued to play with Noya’s hair. Sayori was probably your favorite among Noya’s sisters because she had the same chaotic nature.
She also had the same blonde streak of hair and you thought that was really cool because it made them look like twins.
Sayori began poking Noya in the calves repeatedly until he whined dramatically and peeked down at her.
“What.”
“So, I matched with this guy on Tinder and I told him that I really love volleyball, but apparently he used to play it and now I don’t know what to do.”
He gave her a look of disbelief before flipping over on your lap. “Why would you do that?”
“I don’t know. I mean I like watching you play it so it wasn’t a complete lie.” She said as she offered the phone to him.
“Yeah, but you don’t understand it,” he took the device from her hands. You pushed his hair back away from his forehead and fiddled absentmindedly with the blonde strip of hair. Noya began scrolling through something before typing against the screen.
“Okay, well you told (Y/N) that you liked to read,” Sayori rolled her eyes. “I had to research book synopsis while you were texting her and that’s infinitely more pathetic.”
He turned red and kicked Sayori in the stomach. “What the hell? Shut up.”
“Noya, I knew you were lying right away,” you said. “We’re in the same class. You complain about lit class every day.”
“Then why’d you go along with it?” He said, sounding betrayed.
“‘Cause it was funny,” you smirked. “I honestly didn’t know half the books I talked about. I just wanted to see how far you’d go.”
“That’s evil.”
“That’s hilarious,” Sayori added, patting you on the shoulder in approval. “I’m so glad you two worked out.”
“Me too,” you brushed your knuckles along his cheek and he paused to give you a dopey smile.
“Okay, but be mushy somewhere else.” Sayori said, while fake gagging.
“You’re the one invading our space,” he snorted. “This could’ve waited until later, Sayori.”
“What are you even doing?”
“Oh, he’s flirting for me.” Sayori shrugged like it was completely normal.
“And you… want the guy to like you?” You asked, ignoring the half-assed glare Noya sent you.
“He’s actually a great flirt as long as there’s no emotional attachment.”
“Seriously?”
“Stop acting so surprised,” Noya furrowed his brow at you. “I flirted well enough to get you to date me.”
“I guess.” Although if you were being honest you actually fell for how bad he was at flirting with you. You were way more attracted to his awkward attempts to impress you than if he’d been super suave or something.
“This guy’s a loser.” Noya grimaced. “I don’t like the way he’s treating you.”
“Really?” Sayori slid down so she laid beside him on your lap and you lifted your hands awkwardly. He just tilted the screen to her and she tsked. “Man, boys suck.”
Noya nodded in agreement as he handed the phone back to her before she hoisted herself off you.
“So, this is normal then?” You asked.
“Yep, he pulls most of my dates. It’s only when he has crushes that he’s a wreck.” She snorted. “Like, it took three days for him to confidently text you by himself.”
“Don’t tell her that!”
“You were nervous? That’s so cute,” you smashed his cheeks together and Noya furrowed his eyebrows annoyed.
“Isn’t it?” Sayori squeezed his feet and bounced them playfully. “I mean, I had to text you the first day while he paced around panicking and ranting about how cute you were and how he was gonna fuck it up. I’ve never seen him so-”
Noya kicked her in the stomach. “Sayori, leave.”
She rolled her eyes, “After all I do for you…” She got up from the couch and sent a peace sign over her shoulder. “See you guys later.”
“Whatever,” he mumbles under his breath.
“Thank you! I love you!” She screamed from her doorway while Noya reached his hand up to pinch your nose and wave your head around.
“Whatever, love you too!”
You captured the hand on your nose and brought the back of his hand to your lips. “I also love you.” You said softly against his hand.
“I love you, too.” He whispered.
You let yourselves enjoy the first moments of silence together as his eyes drifted closed and you leaned against his hand. The only noise came from Mina’s muffled study playlist drifting through the floorboards as even the television had long fallen quiet-the movie ending a long time ago without either of you noticing.
“I like having you here,” he said, peeking an eye open.
Your eyes softened. “I like being here.”
The washer buzzed and he squeezed his eyes shut while taking a deep breath. He rolled off your lap with a whine, giving you a quick peck on the forehead before he went jogging down the hallway with a promise that he would be right back. You watched after him as he sock slid on the hardwood floor to make a sharp turn and continue running toward their washroom. You couldn’t contain the dopey smile on your lips.
You relaxed back against the couch as your cheeks turned a rosey shade of pink. You stared up at the ceiling fan spinning around and chewed on your bottom lip, mulling over your thoughts.
You really did love being here, being a part of the family chaos. As you heard the dryer start running and a door sliding shut somewhere in the house a nice thrum ran through your heart because… you especially loved being a part of the family chaos with him.

[information]
I decided since my old 2021 Resolutions post was so horrifically out of date, that I should write a new pinned post. I recommend reading this for information about me.
First: no more writing resolutions. I'll write what I can, when I an.
Second: I am non-binary/agender. Pronouns are they/them, though I responded to she/her so long that I am not bothered by them. I'm also asexual & aromantic.
Third: I am nearly fifty. My fandoms of choice are, in no given order, are: Power Rangers (MMPR-PRLR, with occasional dips into later ones), Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, Digimon Xros Wars/Hunters, Digimon Applimonsters, Digimon NEXT, YGO DM, YGO GX, YGO 5Ds, YGO Zexal, YGO Arc-V, YGO VRAINS, YGO Sevens, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boubeiu Love & Love Love, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boubei Happy Kiss, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, and Trollhunters. Digimon tri & Digimon Kizuna I might take small bits from but am not overly fond of them. Nothing more needs to be said on that front. YGO GX is the blood in my veins. I am unlikely to writee any given game for Pokemon.
Fourth: I have a large backlog of prompts for fics, both submitted by others and taken up for myself. If you wish to send in a prompt, the inbox is always open but it may take time for me to get to it, depending on my mood and what the prompt sparks. Please check "higuchimon prompts" for lists of prompts.
I warned you. All right. Here we go. You'll see some concepts and preferences pop up repeatedly. Tread with caution.
Digimon Adventure 02
Non-epilogue compliant: fics where the epilogue (and now that they exist, Tri and Kizuna) isn't going to happen. Non-canon ships (most often Ken x Daisuke & Taichi x Yamat0) abound. Fics seldom related to one another unless otherwise noted.
Loss, Gain, & Other Heartaches: A new enemy brainwashes a lot of human Chosen and their partners, after destroying the original twelve's patners, leading to the Digimon's data being merged with the Chosen's.
Division of Destiny: What if Vamdemon turned Sora into a vampire and from there defeated the Chosen? Well, he ended up turning Taichi, Jou, & Mimi into vampires as well, while imprisoning Hikari and giving Yamato, Takeru, and Koushiro to Piemon and the Dark Masters as slaves. A pesky rebellion formed of Daisuke, Iori, Miyako, Ken, Osamu, and various other charactes tries to fight them. Firm ships are currently just Ken x Daisuke.
When Blood Crosses: Oh, one of my favorites and probably my oldest AU altogether. What if humans and Digimon could have children together? And what if they did already? Seven out of twelve of the Chosen are part Digimon - or more. This is a full-blown multiverse. Stories don't always relate to one another, but the basic concepts tend to be the same. Ships can vary but for the most part are Taichi x Yamato, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora, Hikari x Miyako, Ken x Daisuke, and Takeru x Iori. Not averse to Piemon x Takeru, either.
Quiet Interlude: Little fluffy pieces featuring Taichi x Yamato in an establihsed relationship during 02 and beyond.
Adaptions: I don't have much written here but I have Such Plans. It will involve Things Happening to Taichi (in season 1) and Daisuke (season 2). It will probably end with Taichi x Yamato and Ken x Daisuke.
Take To The Skies: In this world, some people have wings and can fly. Daisuke is a Flier. The Digimon Kaiser thinks that makes him the perfect pet. But he will need training, of course. Kaiser x Daisuke. Other stories might involve the others who have wings.
Return of Old Enemies: Takeru is captured by two strange Digimon and collared so he can't speak. That's only the beginning of what's going on.
Fragmented Memory: Kaiser x Daisuke. Kaiser has wiped Daisuke's memory and convinced him that they're together. The other Chosen are not happy about this.
Broken Bonds: A soulmate AU featuring Piemon x Takeru. This is also a breeds AU. Piemon murders Patamon and takes Takeru.
Fight To Remember: Kaiser has lost his memory. So has Daisuke. Together, they need to learn who they were, who they are, and who they're going to be. Ken x Daisuke, obviously.
Services Rendeed: Daisuke gets poisoned and the cure lies within territory controlled by the Kaiser. The only way to save him is for the Kaiser to do it. His price - Daisuke himself. To be his until he gets bored with Daisuke. Sadly, the Kaiser isn't easily bored. Ken x Daisuke.
Stirring Shadows: Ken had a very naughty dream about being the Kaiser again and wanting to dominate Daisuke instead of the Digital World. Now, it was just a dream - right? Ken x Daisuke, older.
Scars of Victory: The Digimon Kaiser defeated the Chosen and took Daisuke as his trophy. For seven years he's ruled over the Digital World unopposed, having blocked the older Chosen from entering the Digital World. Now the barriers have dropped - and revenge is best served cold. Ken x Daisuke, brainwashing, off-screen death.
Course of Events: Set in a breeds AU: Vamdemon notices something unusual about Daisuke when he's in line to meet Tailmon and sends him to Piemon, who discovers who and what he is. How interesting. No current ships.
Walking The Edge: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years without knowing his true identity. Daisuke has also been dating Ichijouji Ken for years. So when the Kaiser finally reveals who he is - well, Daisuke has a choice to make. And the Kaiser will only allow one.
Dark Brotherhood: breeds AU. Ken, as Kaiser, has discovered that his half-brother is Yamato. Or rather, Anbumon. An alliance is offered. Ships: Yamato x Taichi & Ken x Daisuke.
Danger Zone: The Kaiser is very annoyed at Daisuke's continued existence as his enemy. So he decides to change where Daisuke's allegiance lies. Kaiser x Daisuke.
Hidden Truths: Miyako-centered breeds AU, also involving Jou and his dark side Fuseiimon. No ships centered, but light indicationss of Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, and Taichi x Yamato.
Errors of Love: Aged up AU. Daisuke is dating the Kaiser. This is probably a very terrible mistake. KEn x Daisuke.
Magical Educations In Love: Magical school AU. Established ships: Ken x Daisuke, with possible Ken x Daisuke x Takeru.
Shadowed Soul: Piemon x Vamdemon x Takeru. is it love or just sex? Takeru wishes he knew. It's also a soulmate AU.
Melody of the Heart: A world of magic and magical creatures. Loosely a mirror of my breeds verse (and I do mean loosely). Established ships: Taichi x Yamato, Ken x Daisuke, Jou x Koushiro, Mimi x Sora. Others to come.
What He Wants: M rated/non-con, Kaiser x Daisuke. That's pretty much all there is to it. Just a couple of drabbles now but I'll expand it later.
Game of Life: breeds AU. The Kaiser's noticed something about some of the Chosen and wants to know what's going on. Undecided ships.
Bitter Bargains: The Chosen have fought the Kaiser for years. He's shown a rough attachment to Daisuke - kidnapping him on a regular basis. Then one day, Daisuke wakes up to find the Kaiser in his bedroom. Oh, dear. Non-con Kaiser x Daisuke.
Sanguine Bindings: Aged up AU - and Ken's a vampire, who mind-controlled Daisuke from episode 2 onward. Brainwashing/mind control/non-graphic non-con.
Purpose of Existence: Kaiser found out about Daisuke being a very special breed and claimed him for his own. Daisuke doesn't like this but something isn't right - he listens, whether he wants to or not. Aged up/breeds AU. Ken x Daisuke.
Buds and Blossoms: A romance between Hikari and Mimi. That's about it.
No Good Decisions: Daisuke accidently eats something he shouldn't have in the Digital World. It wouldn't be so bad - if the Kaiser hadn't found him and determined that someone needed to watch him. Ken x Daisuke.
Blood Of His Blood: Breed AU. Piemon wants to live again and will ensure that he does, through his oldest son.
For All Time: Taichi's been in an accident and Yamato's not sure when he will wake up. Taichi x Yamato.
Heart of Demon, Soul of Angel: AU where Taichi is an angel and Yamato is a demon. At least it starts off that way. A lot is going to change. Established ships: Taichi x Yamato & Ken x Daisuke.
Bonds & Bondage: Kaiser goes ahead and Rings V-mon. This affects Daisuke, unexpectedly. Now what will the Chosen do? Ken x Daisuke.
Fireblood: Breeds/Firestarter/Healer AU. Vamdemon bites Yamato and awakens his dark side - not good for anyone at all. Taichi x Yamato.
Flaming Ivy: The 02 Chosen are Healers and Firestarters and are working out what that means for them. Ken x Daisuke.
Digimon Tamers
Fair Wings: Some of the Tamers have wings, including Juri, Kenta, and Ruki. Adventunres and romance thereof. Established relationship: Juri x Takato.
Digimon Frontier
Consequences of Games: Just a set of fluffy post-canon fanfics featuring the Chosen playing games and what happens after the games. Firm ships include Kouji x Kouichi and Junpei x Izumi.
Heirs Apparent: Lucemon's spirit escaped confinement and was able to have an encounter with Kimura Tomoki, siring twin boys.
Godslave: So, Lucemon is the God-King of the world, ruling humans and Digimon alike. What he wants, he gets. And now he wants Kouji.
Tales of WInd and Water: Stories that cicle around Ranamon and Izumi.
Reflections of Dark Shadows: An AU where Kouji doesn't have a twin. What he does have is a reflection - and the reflection doesn't like his boyfriend. Established Takuya x Kouji, one-sided Kouichi x Kouji.
The Wind-child: A fantasy AU where Izumi is the daughter of AncientIrismon and has many adventures.
Yu-Gi-Oh Xros Wars/Hunters
Not Telling All: Yuu is a vampire with a taste for Tagiru. Tagiru doesn't know - at least not yet.
Hunting The Great Game: A rewrite of Xros Wars/Hunters. Set three years instead of one after the Xros Wars. Taiki finds himself back in the Digital World and that's where it all begins.
Digimon NEXT
Knight Tales: Fantasy AU. Kahara Shou's village is slaughtered and burned down and he's the only survivor. Taken in by Barbamon, he becomes the Demon Lord's devoted Knight.
Yu-Gi-Oh DM
Pleasures of Shadows: Yami no Malik has been revived as an incubus.
Crimeland: An AU where there are three Kaiba brothers (Seto, Seth, and Mokuba) and - many other differences I haven't gotten to writing yet. Only set 'ship is Seto x Kisara.
Uncertain Choices: A modern day AU, with Atemu and Yuugi as twin brothers. Only set ship right now is Atemu x Mahaado. If I ever finish the sequel I have in mind, I will add Seto x Yuugi.
Ways of Magic: a magical AU. Seto and Mokuba are dragons. Pegasus is a sorcerer. Mai is a pirate queen. Otogi is a djinn. A few scattered set pairings such as Otogi x Bakura Ryou.
Heart of Magic: a magical AU. This one involves a magical school where various characters are students or teachers. Established ships: Atemu x Mahaado.
Gifts of Power: A Superhero AU. A large chunk of people have powers. Established relationship: Isis x Mana.
Yu-Gi-Oh GX
Reversal AU: In canon, Juudai has the poewr of the Gentle Darkness. Here, in a world very like Dark World but with differences (such as a sun), he has the power of the Destructive Darkness - and he is pure evil, enjoys it, and has the overall goal of destroying all of creation. A small, plucky rebellion stands against him. Do they stand a chance? Time will tell. Be warned: non-consensual Juudai x Johan, as well as someone becoming a vampire, and many other twisted plot points. I love this AU.
Stronger Than Water: We don't know much about Johan's past. So what if he actually grew up in Dark World, as Brron's adopted son? And was sent to kill Juudai? Firm ships are Yubel x Juudai and maybe Yubel x Juudai x Johan. I havevn't gotten far enough to be sure.
Hell's Ice: What if Ryou were the one taken by Kagemaru and Amnael instead of Fubuki? Well, add in some elemental affinities and we have the Hell Kaiser of Ice - one of the Seven Stars. No set ships othe than Yubel x Juudai, though I am debating a few.
Itch To Scratch: Juudai and Yubel are demons. Johan's an angel - or he thinks he is, anyway. What he really is, he'll find out eventually. Firm ship is Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
Bridges: So, in this series, Juudai's power is that of the Light of Creation. Johan has the Gentle Darkness - and Juudai has been possessed by the Light of Ruin for seven thousand years.
Dead Weight: It's the zombie apocalypse! Ahhh! No set in stone ships yet.
King's Champion: When a late-night break-in goes very wrong, Yubel ends up taking Juudai to Dark World for his own safety. He ends up being raised by Brron. But taking him away from Earth has consequence, both good and bad. Yubel x Juudai. Not ruling out Yubel x Juudai x Johan in the future.
Shadow Demons: Juudai: King of Hell, with Yubel and Johan as his Consorts. Ryou, a demon prince. Fujiwara Yuusuke, a shadow mage with Honest as his guardian angel. Fubuki as an angel of love. Asuka slays evil vampires. And much, much more. Established ships: Ryou x Yuusuke and Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
Echoes: Rewrites of different parts of GX. Currently only the Haou arc, but others to come. Established ships: technically none but eventually Yubel x Juudai.
In The Shadows of the Fae: Juudai is the King of the Fae with Yubel and Johan as consorts, and Shou as his servant. A delicious AU that I enjoy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
In Chains: Fantasy AU. Brron is gifted Shou as a slave, and Shou has to deal with that. Not easy. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan & Edo x Ryou x Saiou.
In Any World: A series of non-connected Yubel x Juudai AUs. Each is a one-shot and is in a different AU.
Past and Future: Yubel shows Juudai events that happened in their past lives together, as they forge a new future with one another. Yubel x Juudai.
Sky Stories: A lot of people have wings. Juudai didn't - until he fused with Yubel. Ryou has rusted metal wings - until Edo takes care of them. ANd many more stories. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai x Johan.
To Accept Fate's Will: A soulmate AU. Established ships: Yubel x Juudai, Edo x Saiou x Ryou. O'Brien x Sea God's Priestess.
Hole In Your Heart: Not fighting means that Shou's in danger. Especially when he gets captured and sold to one of Haou's servants. As if his third year wasn't already going downhill. No actual ships that I know of (probable future Yubel x Juudai)
In Space, In Light: Juudai sent Yubel into space to be healed by the Gentle Darkness. In canon, it failed. Here, it worked. Uh-oh. Yubel x Juudai.
Paladin's Quest: post ending series. Ryou dies of heart failure and is reborn as a duel spirit without his memories of his past. But that's going to change, because what he did in Dark World cannot be forgotten.
In Darkness We Find FIre: An AU of my own devising, that I call Healer/Firestarter. Healers can heal & communicate/grow plants, and Firestarters bun things. There are a lot more details than that but this tale is a retelling of canon through that lens. Established ship: Yubel x Juudai.
Politics of Ages: Asuka is a vampire queen with two consorts: Manjoume and Ryou. Lots of vampiric politics.
Infinite Love: A magical AU with soulmates. Features Ryou x Yuusuke, Camula x Ruthven (OC), and Edo x Saiou.
King's Knights: Post-canon series. Juudai offers Ryou, Fubuki, and Yuusuke as his Knights. But that's just the beginning. Johan has his own tale to tell.
Passion's Flight: Soul-wings universe. Established asexual/aromantic Asuka. Future Yubel x Juudai.
Prisoner of the Black Tower: Johan is trapped in a black tower by someone called Haou. He doesn't know who that is. And he wants to leave.
Apprentices: A mild alternate timeline, where Kyle and Nero from season 3 meet and become friends - while in Haou's dungeon.
World of Fusion: Brron fused all the dimensions and the world that results is so very different. Now Brron also has three sons: Juudai, Johan, and Rune (the Johan lookalike from season 3). Also, Ryou is a vampire. Established relationships: Yubel x Juudai.

Different Kind of Darkness: When Juudai encounters a vampire before his rule in Dark World begins, everything takes a dip to a deeper darkness.
After Academia: Graduating doesn't mean that their adventurs have ended. They're just different now. Yubel x Juudai.
Colors of Love: A different soulmate concept - those who have soulmates only see the colors of their soulmate's hair and eyes until they meet - at which point they see all colors, and sprout their wings. Edo x Saiou and Yubel x Juudai, with others to come.
Hi Kari Kouri E: Healer/Firestarter. Kagemaru wants a powerful Frostflame on his Seven Stars team, so sends people to recruit a six year old Marufuji Ryou. Future Yubel x Juudai and Ryou x Yuusuke.
Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V
Prey and Hunters: Yuuri captures Shun and has a good old time tormenting him. Rewrite of my original "Yuuri torments Shun" story. It will have a crossover with Mythology of Love by SilvorMoon eventually.
BKCBL
Seduction of Shadows: a realm with Io being human, Akoya being a demon, and Ryuu being an angel.
Crossovers
Love Is Out Of This World: BKCBL & Digimon Adventure 02. When the Digimon Kaiser drops into the Student Council Room, things become very interesting. Ken x Daisuke, Atsushi x Kinshiro.
Ties To Magic: Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, and YGO GX. A fantasy world where anyone can meet anyone at all.
From Shadows Within: Digimon Adventure, 02, Tamers, and Frontier. A new adventure for everyone! Ships: Ken x Daisuke.
I fully expect to develop more of these in the future. Time will tell! And I will update this when or if the time comes.

Storm of the Republic
Chapter 7
AO3 Link | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
——————————————————————————————
Summary:  When Tup murdered General Tiplar during a battle, Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex dispatched Ahsoka, Fives, and Yara to solve the mystery that was plaguing the Clone Army. Meanwhile, Senator Padme Amidala contacted Commander Fox, Commander Tori, Riyo Chuchi, and Dipper to help her continue investigating the death of Palpatine, suspecting that Dooku was behind the evil plot. But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
With Tup bound in a medical case, Fives and Yara escorted him into the ship, along with the medics that were sent for him. The medics were dispatched from base, and they received orders from Cinta Kaarim to pick up their patient from Ringo Vinda.
They weren’t clones, rather; they were volunteers who worked for the Republic in the beginning of the war. During the Battle of Coruscant, the medics assisted with the injured soldiers and Jedi by treating them and evacuating them off the planet.
Those who were lucky continued their services for the Republic remnants’ army. Those who did not escape Coruscant were imprisoned or killed. To the Empire, there is no in-between.
Fives gazed at Tup, who had a breathing machine beside him. His forehead felt warm as his under eyes were darker, showing his health was slowly deteriorating. He heard a groan from his brother, prompting him to hold his shoulder.
“It’s gonna be fine, I promise,” he soothed him. “They’ll fix you up real good. We’ll be having a drink in no time, eh?”
Good soldiers follow orders,” Tup stammered. “Good soldiers follow orders.”
“You are a good soldier, Tup,” Fives said, with a bleak tone. He wasn’t sure whether he heard him, but at least he said what needed to be said.
“It’s time to go,” the volunteer informed him.
As the ship took off, he sat beside Yara, who looked at him with droopy eyebrows. “Do you think Tup will make it?”
“He’s a fighter, Yara, I know it. Tup’s been through a lot worse than this. He will make it through this one too.”
“I hope so,” Yara nodded, with a small voice. “I’ve already planned to down a mickey after this.”
Fives chuckled. “I see you already made plans for yourself, eh?”
“Well, a drink would calm you down in a situation like this. Besides, I’m sure you’ll do the same as well, am I right?”
“Touché,” he snapped his finger as he leaned against his seat, expecting the ship to jump into hyperspace. Once Tup is feeling better, Fives and Yara will share a bottle of mickey in their barracks together.
Though Captain Rex would lecture them the next day, at least the three of them will have the time of their life for the entire night. It’s not the same as 79’s, where there was music and people, but at least they can find enjoyment with little things they have.
Yara crossed her arms and legs as she rested her eyes for a while, hoping to catch up on her sleep. For odd reasons, she always finds it difficult to doze off at night, and as a result, she gets nagged at her poor sleeping habits.
She had the same problem when she was still a cadet, where the trainers would have to resort to pouring a bucket of sea water just to make her jump from her bed. Fives used to tease her for her sleeping habit, and it hasn’t died out since. Hopefully, I wake up when this ship lands at base.
“We are tracking clean,” the pilot spoke through the intercoms. “Calculating the hyperspace jump in five, four…”
Before they could continue the countdown, the radar on the panel beeped rapidly. “Wait! Wait!” their co-pilot shouted. “Scanners show incoming craft. Abort jump!”
As the pilot did what they were told, an Imperial light cruiser appeared out of nowhere, blasting towards their direction. Fives heard the commotion and grabbed the helmet, pinching Yara by the elbows. “Wake up,” he startled her. “We’ve got company!”
Yara groaned as she rubbed her eyes open, feeling her head spinning. “This better be good,” she complained. “I was having such a pleasant dream.”
“You can tell me about your dreams later,” he handed her helmet. “Right now, the Empire is trying to break in.”
She put on her helmet and took a brief glance at Tup, making the connections in her head. “Well, I think I figured out why.”
“Tell me about it,” he snarked as they both heard buzz droids crawling around the ship, giving her the chills. Yara hated buzz droids with all her passion, and she would do anything to destroy them with her bare hands.
“Mayday! Mayday!” the pilot panicked through the comms. “They must have circled around behind us. We’re being overwhelmed.”
Listening to the agonising screams, Yara flung her arms around Fives, picturing the gory torture they went through.
“Dude, they’re just droids,” he assured her, shoving her arms away. “We can take them down easily.”
“They just killed our pilot,” she reminded him. “And they also disabled our ship too, which means we’re stranded in space.”
“We’ll hold the line,” Fives ordered the medics onboard. “Stay behind us and protect our patient.”
The medic acknowledged his orders as both the ARC Troopers put on an oxygen tank and held their grip on their blasters. The anti-gravity of the ship was activated, making them float above the ground. Yara felt like throwing up, but she had to hold it in for Tup’s sake.
As the buzz droids crawled closer towards them, the duo blasted the droids into pieces, without missing a mark at all. Fives snickered to himself as he held a piece of buzz droid and showed it to his sister, leaving her annoyed.
“Okay, I get it, it was easy,” she slapped his hand. “Well done, Fives.”
Before he could think of a comeback, he saw a group of commando droids entering from the back of the ship, rendering him speechless. “Hold my blaster,” Yara bossed him, as she lunged herself towards one of the commando droids, pulling its head.
“What a show off,” Fives shook his head as he blasted them in the eye, destroying them in an instant. “You might need this though.”
Tossing back her pistols, Yara gave him a small salute as she knocked down another one with her elbows, before giving a headshot. “Yara, 2, Fives, 1,” she updated their kill counts.
“Oh, I’m not letting you win this one,” he accepted the challenge, as he blasted both the droids all at once, making her sigh. She took down two droids in front of her and another two above the ceiling, proving her worth towards her brother.
“Yara, 6, Fives, 3.”
He chortled at her bold claims as he turned around and gunned down 3 commando droids, and dismantled another one with his arms before shooting the last one on the ground. “Looks like I won this round,” smiled Fives.
“You cheated,” she pouted. “I had the upper hand first.”
“Yara, 6, Fives, 8.”
“Whatever, I was cooler. You were just lucky, that’s all.”
Some things never change, Fives reminisced about the past, where they used to compete in every game they played with Echo, before he died in the citadel. If only he was still here with us. He would have beaten the both of us with a few shots.
He stretched himself and placed his twin pistols in his holsters, when Yara hit his shoulders out of nowhere. “Fives, where’s Tup? He was here a few minutes ago.”
“Well, he was just here,” he answered, when he realised that all the medics were dead, with Tup missing from the casing. “Shit, where did he go? How did this happen?”
Yara frantically climbed the cockpit and noticed the Imperial cruiser in front of them, leading her to form a logical conclusion. “I believe our brother is over there.”
“Shit, what do we do?” Fives panicked. “If the Empire takes him, then he’s screwed. We’re all screwed.”
“If the Empire took him, then it’s clear they were behind all of this,” she said, connecting the wires from the panel. “Come on, we need to get General Skywalker and Captain Rex to help us.”
I hope they understand it isn’t our fault; he scratched the back of his head, aware that they fucked up everything.

Note
Sorry I know it's a lil late, but if you're still taking oc asks (these ones I mean), maybe 13, 19, 24, 38/39/40, 43, 45, 47, 64, and/or 74/75/76? again, for any OC you'd like
It’s never too late to ask me about my OCs! I could talk about them until the cows come home! X3 Not to mention, this is great since I’m currently working on my next chapter and I needed a little break! So, thank you! ❤️❤️
***
13. How many siblings does your OC and what is his/her relationship with them?
So, the only OCs that have a sibling are Fane and Mhairi. Fane is Mhairi’s brother and Mhairi is Fane’s sister. Fun fact: orginally these two were supposed to be twins when I made them because they looked very similar (Fane had platinum blonde hair like Mhairi and their overall faces had like features). Now, they’re three years apart (Fane is 24 and Mhairi is 21).
As to their relationship, it is 100% wholesome and devotion incarnate. Everything Fane does and has done is for Mhairi, and he takes the role of both a father and a brother for her. It’s one of the few times Fane is actually soft with another person. Mhairi is his whole world until Inquisition, and it makes everything later one even harder for him. *side eyes* Mhairi is in the same boat as Fane because she is highly obsessed with showing him that she can handler herself and that he doesn’t have to keep running himself into the ground to keep her safe and happy. She constantly bakes him his favorite treats, gifts him with raw materials for his weapon crafting, crafts him articles of clothing and trinkets to elicit a single smile to his face. Mhairi just wants him to be happy above all else since she can tell something changed him, but she doesn’t know what. As such, she does become a tad jealous when Fane and Solas’s relationship comes to light, but only because she’s just as protective with him as Fane is with her.
19. What does your OC think of children- either in general or about having them?
I wrote a fic about this actually! It was told from Solas’s POV, but it gave glimpse into how Fane responds to children. Fane adores children and he secretly craves a small family--just one child because he wants to give the love his mother had given him. Gentle, calm, and patient. He just thinks he doesn’t have it in him for that, especially because of what he is. (hint: watch for fics that have the appearance of the baby dragon that Solas and Fane adopt. It’ll be important waaaaay later. *winks*)
Estoria is along the same lines as Fane. She loves, loves, loves children. When she was traveling as a mercenary, the band would occasionally visit smaller cities where there were alienages and Estoria would spend her free time there. She would sing songs to the children, teach them how to do menial, but important tasks like washing clothes or planting crops, and would tell them stories of her time on the road. Deep down inside, she would adore a little girl of her own because she wants desperately to be a mother.
24. Who are the people your OC dislikes/hates?
So, surprise! Fane doesn’t actually ‘hate’ or ‘dislike’ anyone (other than his father lol). But if we’re talking in terms of the inner circle, again, he doesn’t hate anyone, he just feels indifferent towards them. The only one that he shows any kind of passionate distaste for is Cassandra, but most of that is from a lack of communication on both their parts in the beginning (Fane is not in a good mental state during Haven’s arc due to being framed divinity and the slow realization of what he is making him lash out violently).
Mhairi though...eheheh. She doesn’t like Solas. At all. For a very long time. They butt heads constantly because of elven history, religion, and magical theory, but also because of Mhairi’s main insecurity of being abandoned. She’s worried Solas will take Fane from her and that frightens her beyond belief. *side eyes AGAIN*
 38. How does your OC react to and handle stress?
Reacting to stress, Fane either becomes incredibly overwhelmed and irate, or he shuts down completely. He turns into a shell that simply walks through the halls with a dead stare, or he becomes the warped version of what he is--breaking, smashing, and snapping anything in his path. When that happens, in either form, Fane hides away in the more desolate parts of Skyhold where no one can find him (other than Solas or Cole). He’s like a cat, actually. He can see everyone else, but they can’t see him. He’ll do that until he calms down enough to where he isn’t overcome wit the urge to snarl or crack open a noble’s skull.
39. How does your OC handle anger?
Badly. Well, Fane does anyways. Pffft. Mhairi tends to cry when she’s angry, so also badly. Estoria...ohhhh, boy. Watch the thorns because they are laced with poison. All my OCs handle anger badly. That probably says something about me, huh? *curls up in the corner*
40. How does your OC handle grief?
Due to his abuse, Fane rarely cries--he was commanded not to for five years and the fear of doing it lingers. However, when he does cry it’s because of something utterly heart breaking. In fact, every time the group goes to fight a dragon, Fane scurries off at the end of the battle to literally crumble into a heap of snot and tears because it physically hurts him. It’ll be revealed more in my fic as to why, but just know it’s a..bad time. Again, Fane’s go to is to be alone with his emotions until they settle down. It’s a bad habit of his and one that takes a lot of support from Solas, Cyfrin and his sister to work out.
Mhairi is very open with her emotions (her and Fane anathema to each other). So, when their mother passed and their father disappeared, she was inconsolable for months and the feeling of abandonment lingers with her still. Usually, Mhairi just goes to Fane or Cyfrin if she’s feeling lonely or grief stricken and just...cry until she passes out.
43. What kind of sense of humor does your OC have?
Fane’s humor is morbid. Cyfrin and he get locked in discussions of dark, dark humor. Such as:
“If you don’t stop commenting about how my eyes will make a ‘lovely’ ballad, I will crack your skull and make a vase. I could use some bright macabre decoration in that dismal aravel, anyways.”
“Do I at least get to be painted in pretty floral patterns and intricate designs of trees? Maybe roses?”
“I’ll make the roses blue. Just for you.”
“Ah-ha! Now we’re talking! A man after my own fluttering, flying heart!”
“I’ll make your heart fly in a minute..”
“A confession?! I knew it would be a joyous day!”
“Just shut up, Cy.”
I’m serious. This is them and I have no shame. *laughs nervously* It’s all empty, though. Cyfrin helps Fane relax a little and never judges him for his darker aspects. If anything, it helps mitigate a potential outburst because Fane can look as it as a joke rather than something that genuinely hurts him. Unless he’s in a really foul mood, then Cyfrin adopts his more caring side to calm Fane down. (I have a lot of thoughts with these two. Just wait. Juuuust wait.)
45. What are some things that annoy your OC?
What doesn’t annoy Fane? 🤣🤣 But specifically, Fane can’t stand when someone is willingly ignorant nor can he stand when they’re filled with disgusting forms of pride.
Estoria is highly annoyed by racial labels. She was taken in by a human, and as such, she got to mingle with a lot of different races throughout her time as mercenary. She got to see those races as people and when organizations like the Chantry and what have you only see race and see it as a bad thing sometimes, she goes off the handle. Estoria doesn’t shy away from being an elf, but she doesn’t believe that’s all she is nor does she believe anyone else is just their physical race.
47. How easily does your OC forgive?
Fane is slow to forgive, even if that person is highly dear to him. However, it does depend on what happened in the first place and there’s a big, big plot point later on in my story that shows a heavily development in this characteristic.
Estoria is an easy forgiver. She’s very openminded and realizes everyone has their struggles, but if it’s something truly deplorable with no other reason besides causing harm or death or gaining influence then that changes quickly.
64. What are some habits your OC has picked up?
Fane has picked up on a lot of habits due to how long he’s lived and what his nature entails. He has a habit of squeezing his arms if he’s agitated, crossing them in an attempt to steady himself, and growling. Fane growls constantly, even if he’s not irritated. It’s an involuntary reaction from being a dragon.
He also has a habit of tracing patterns in wood with his eyes--pointing out shapes and faces. He also has a habit of..twisting the truth. *side eyes once AGAIN*
74. What is your OC’s favorite color?
Fane -- Blue (Don’t look at me like that.)
Estoria -- Grey (reminds her of her father’s eyes)
Mhairi -- White (she likes the symbolism of purity)
75. What is your OC’s favorite scent?
Fane -- Gladiolus
Estoria -- Rain
Mhairi -- Vanilla
76. What is your OC’s favorite animal?
Fane -- Wolf (DON’T. There’s more to it, I swear!)
Estoria -- Cats (she used to play with them in alley ways)
Mhairi -- Halla (she adores being around them since her mother would take her to them when she was little)
****
Thank you for the ask, lovely person! Have a splendid day! ❤️❤️

Hooky is a DAMM GOOD webtoon and you should all read it.
Every want to read a long-running epic? Do you like magic and witchcraft in your stories? Is the thought of a colorful cast (literally and figuratively) enough to catch your attention? Do you like stories that are all about love - familial,  romantic and platonic? Want all of what was mentioned above to be renditioned in beautifully drawn and flowing tapestries?
If so then Hooky - a webtoon by Miriam Bonastre Tur is just for you.
Its a story deserving of a seat next to the ‘greats’ people quote when talking about storytelling on the level of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the like. This is not being said lightly. The pitfalls of any kind of story that goes on for longer than a few episodes or chapters or storytelling arcs is that they may lose their way. Lose track of what the initial chapters were trying to tell or lose focus and bloat up into messy storytelling. This can happen in any medium and webtoon is certainly not immune.
There are many great stories in webtoon - but many, just like a certain shonen jump manga which continued and stretched until the publisher itself decided to give it the infamous ax - continue their stories until they are unrecognizable. Sometimes, ending the story at just the right time makes a story that much more precious to its readers.
On webtoon, there are certainly quite a few great stories both ongoing and complete that have this ephemeral air of just right. Those kinds of stories that read confidently with the attitude of an individual who has a goal and will and does complete it.
I personally have many series I hold dear to my heart which are themselves webtoons. Today though I’m here to talk about Hooky.
Tumblr media
The Story
Hooky, a series so good, that if it were a manga I’d want it turned into an anime and if it were a comic I’d want it turned into a cartoon. And even as a webtoon, I just want someone to bring this to the big screens.
Its a story about many things. At its heart, it's about love and the lack thereof it (as cheesy as this sounds). Divides from distrust, lashings from hatred, misunderstandings from miscommunication all looked at different levels. From the interpersonal to the societal. Miriam weives a careful and interesting narrative on what can quickly become a complicated and controversial topic.
Its a series that starts off quaint and oh so very sweet. Akin to Disney's retelling of all the classic fairy tales.
Tumblr media
Two twins, Dani and Dorian dash through a pastel rendition of a Spanish village, dressed in matching black robes as they run late for their school bus. Upon missing their only ticket to the hidden rendition of Hogwarts this world has they have a brilliant idea to hide this from their parents. And instead, find a mentor in magic as an alternative.
From then on its a swirling adventure as these children navigate a world they’ve obviously never interacted with. It's a fairy tale - but not from Disney - that takes some interesting inspiration from the famous stories fables. Hansel and Gretel being an example which comes to mind.
Tumblr media
Going back to comparing Hooky with Avatar - it’s a story with its high and low moments for the characters. Just like Aang, the main duo of this story, don’t always get to play around with their equivalent of Elephant koi. It’s at times grim but not overly gritty. It doesn't revel in life’s tragedies any more than it indulges in fantasy’s escapism.
Our main characters find themselves in a world they quickly realize they know very little about and it is quickly made obvious to both us the viewer and the twins, that not everything is exactly as simple as it seems to the inexperienced eyes of the child twins.
Tumblr media
In a way, they are almost perfect reflections to us readers. Ignorant and oblivious to the reality of this open and unexplored world. Almost except for the fact that unlike them, we have some grounding story elements of the initial fables interwoven into the narrative.
Taking inspiration from a story does not mean copying it however and this is certainly true of Hooky, which is it's own grounded and fleshed out tale.
The world-building starts off in the form of little one-off lines and details which quickly snowball into a predominant feature of the story. Something that demands the attention of both you and the characters. The story and its contents evolve and mature just like the characters as they grow up both figuratively and literally.
Scenes and events happening as early as chapter one will come back later. Twists, turns, self-fulfilling prophecies - all of which given this series a wonderful re-read value (in addition to the first read-through ride).
Tumblr media
There’s so much I could say about Hooky and it’s story and storytelling. However, much of it is walled off behind intricate layers of world-building and scenes - all of which are too spoil-ery for me to justify, well, spoiling it.
Instead, I’ll move forward to another greatly quality of this story: Its characters.
The Characters
This story’s characters are much of its charm. If you can’t find yourself enjoying Dani and Dorian’s antics along with their friends - then much of this story will fall flat.
They should not though, because, every character it a well and finely crafted piece of art.
First, we have the main duo: the aforementioned twins. Both are polar opposites in character, as many twins tend to be written - but both come off as very genuine and their sibling love for each other comes across even more so.
Tumblr media
It’s the little things that make them work. The sibling bickering, the disagreements that put them at odds but eventually bring them back together. The fierce care and protectiveness they have despite this and hostility that will sprout against anyone that attacks one or the other. They won’t be finishing each other’s sentences but no one else in the world would understand their unsaid words better than they do with each other.
Dorian, the brother is the ‘book smart’, the skill. He likes to think of himself as a well-read gentleman but isn't all that prideful over it (for the most part). He doesn’t handle the more rambunctious boys his age well despite his admiration of them and needs to socialize.
Tumblr media
If there is one thing he’s proud and or defensive over it’s his magic. His wizard heritage and family name - no matter what the outside world’s opinion of it is hell stubbornly hold on to it. A flip side to his genuine and endearing clumsiness when friends are in the picture is the fact that he is perhaps more cynical or anxious than his sister. He’s far from perfect, but again this is due to his youth and inexperience rather than any lingering personality flaw. Throughout the story, he does many things, both good and bad - but everything he does is consistent and grounded as the individual he’s been built up to be.
Tumblr media
Dani is the more outgoing of the two twins, she’s more so the ‘raw power’ of the duo. Despite being just as sheltered as her brother, she’s a step ahead of her brother when facing the uncertain, confident, adventurous but rash - despite how this gets her into trouble.
Tumblr media
She is, however just as sensitive as her brother. In fact, all the while being more outgoing it can seem like she is more easily pressured by the views of others on her than her bother at times, the more easily influenced by the world around her.
Tumblr media
There is also a vast supporting cast of characters in addition to our interesting twin due. Some of which I doubt hesitate to even call just “side” characters with the role they continuously play.
There’s Nico, a rambunctious village boy - who just wants to properly get the chance to grow up as a wizard’s apprentice despite his ‘lack’ of ability with magic. He’s first introduced as one of those ‘rough around the edges’ individuals with a somewhat un-empathetic temperament.
Tumblr media
As the story’s scope grows and as our characters mature with their experiences, however, Nico is quickly one of the characters who take the lead in his development. Considering where he started, he ends up one of the most grounded and wise characters.
Our next character is Princess Monica. As per her moniker - she certainly starts off impersonating her title. Stuffy, self-aggrandising, very obtuse regarding the lives of everyday people - the list goes one. Her introduction is set with her decision to embark on a quest to find her prince charming.
Tumblr media
Just like our main character duo, she is very sheltered, however. And quickly she’ll discover that her wants and beliefs may clash with reality. This pompous air (which may annoy some readers) thankfully, does not last long. Monica quickly blooms to be one of the most empathetic and hardworking characters within the story. Her blooming relationship with Dorian is as agonisingly anxiety inducing as it is heartwarming to see.
Tumblr media
I could talk at length about the other characters, but if I did this post would go on and on. But certainly, Mark, Alex, Damien, Will, Master Pendragon, the King, the Wytte family - all are intriguing and compelling characters which will keep you around if you’re not hooked already.
The Art
The final thing to this post is me just briefly discussing the art. If you haven't noted already from the screenshots - it’s gorgeous and unique. Here the author/artist takes full advantage of the medium provided to her. Scenes will flow down for pages, something only possible in the webtoon. Characters will talk in coloured speech bubbles, something only possible in coloured and static media such as comics.
The art in this series is nothing close to static, however. It's dynamic and inventive in its paneling in a way that brings so much charm to the series.
Tumblr media
Emotional moments are that much more impactful as you, the readers, are swept through both dream-like and nightmarish scenes alike. Scenes will flow just as much as they will pause between panels, letting words and emotions soak in. They build up awe as well as they do tension and dread. The artistry of the author develops along with the story is nothing short of beautiful especially as we reach the current ending arc’s climax and denouement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To Summarise
Hooky is a well-crafted piece of writing that I hope more people learn about and get to read. It's currently going into its final arc (as of writing this post) and I can attest that it certainly is worth the read. While as a story it enjoyed taking after the grim origins of our favourite fairy tales, it never forgets what it once was - a story about two twins just missing their school bus - and it makes sure to show the readers it hasn’t forgotten with a fairy tale ending fit for a child’s bedtime story its so sweet.

An in depth review of Aurora Rising//Part 2
If you haven’t already, read part one here.
So welcome to the second part of my ramblings about this novel. Last time, I talked about how chapters 18-24 were some of the most confusing and infuriating chapters I have ever read, and how I hated that.
I’m actually going to complain about it a little bit more in...
Pacing!
Aurora Rising’s pacing is...questionable at best. Bad at worst.
So the novel is split into three parts. You know how some novels have specific parts like part 1 and part 2? That’s used in Aurora Rising. Immediately, the three act structure comes to mind. I understand that it may be used for movies more but hear me out.
The basics of structure and pacing is that, by the end of the second act, you’re nearing the climax. Basically, the story should be increasing in tension, because the antagonist is usually at its most powerful at this point.
Aurora Rising doesn’t do that. Or maybe it just failed me and not you for some reason. But if you remember the end of part 2 aka chapters 18-24, you would know that the characters succeed. And what that success does, is lower the tension. Because the heroes won the battle and they’re feeling pretty confident. That doesn’t raise the stakes in my opinion. I feel like if Auri actually was taken, then there would be stronger stakes, but the pacing failed in that regard. So it’s another big complaint from me.
There’s nothing really remarkable about plot of pacing for me to comment on. So let’s go to the next part.
Characters
For this section, I am simply going to rank the main cast aka the squad, and tell you my thoughts about them. 7 being my least favourite character and 1 being my favourite. I’ll talk about their relationships which each other in a separate section.
7. Zila
Zila doesn’t have a personality. She is the stereotypical “smart” person in the group that doesn’t express emotion. Or in this case, has none. She’s a robot. She has no interests, no motivations, and we’re not given a backstory. She has nothing. I personally believe that the authors didn’t even care about her. They just added her there to be smart. That is all. She shows a smidgen of an arc near the end, but it’s not even the bare minimum. I wished the authors actually put effort into Zila because it’s obvious that they didn’t.
6. Tyler Jones
Tyler Jones is the definition of the bland white boy. He is one of the worst protagonists I have ever seen in a book. Why does he suck so much in my eyes? Because he’s perfect. He’s handsome, he’s good at everything, everyone likes him, and even if they don’t like him, they at least respect him. He never makes any mistakes, doesn’t have any flaws, and has dimples. He is infuriating.
Personally, I like flawed characters. That’s what makes characters and stories interesting. If you give me a character who essentially wins every battle, I will think that they are the most bland and boring person in existence. Your characters need flaws, especially your protagonist! Remember chapters 18-24? Yeah, another complaint about that part is making them succeed just makes Tyler more of a Mary Sue.
Also there’s a scene in chapter 12 where Tyler says he doesn’t want to kill a Terran because he’s a Terran and acts like killing his own kind is unheard of. ....Aurora has a lot of explaining to do for you buddy.
Tyler gets the second worst ranking because at least he is allowed to experience emotions, and the authors tried to give him an arc. (But does Tyler really have an arc? Because I didn’t see it.)
5. Cat
I have mixed feelings about Cat. I talked before about the arc that I thought she was going to have. And the arc she gets...well it’s kind of disappointing.
Cat’s character seems to be that she’s in love with Tyler (for some reason) but he rejected her and now she’s just trying to cope with it but doesn’t do it well. She dies, but dies knowing that Tyler actually loved her all along and I don’t really like it. But at the same time, I do?
See, when I read the ending of the book, I was sad. Cat died and I was sad because of that. I’ll give the book merit for that, (especially since I’ve been slandering it.) It made me care about a character’s death. But at the same time, I don’t like that Cat’s arc was essentially her getting over a man. It feels cheap to me. My idea for her arc was her learning to listen to others opinions more and make her more loyal, which is not dependent on a man. So I don’t straight up hate Cat, but I would make a lot of changes to her character and arc.
And also she’s kind of annoying. She’s says bloody way too often and I thought the authors did that so she could be “unique.” Apparently Cat’s Aussie...somehow. I’m so sorry to Australians everywhere, I’m sure you all don’t talk like Cat.
4. Scarlet Jones
I don’t really like Scarlet all that much, but I like her more than Cat. Here’s the thing: she’s immediately better than Tyler because she actually has flaws. Which I like. She cares about her friends and the squad members. She’s a sweetheart, and I like that. Her motivations are understandable in a way, but I also relate to them which kind of makes me hate her.
Also she does some questionable things that don’t make me hate her, they just confuse me, and creep me out. For starters, she has a list of all her exes. I don’t wanna judge her because I really don’t hate her, but that’s creepy. Also there’s a scene where she drugs two guys for their uniforms, and she takes them to a hotel room, and leaves her bra there, along with some kiss marks, to give to illusion that she had sex with them. She said something along the lines of “Gotta leave some evidence.”
First of all, that’s not how you commit a crime. (For legal reasons, this is a joke.) When you commit a crime, you make sure that there’s no evidence so that you don’t get caught. Second, leaving signs that these guys had sex with you tells them that they had sex with you under the influence. They didn’t give their consent, meaning you’re making them think that you raped them. And when you think about how males usually are the ones to drug and rape females, it just becomes even more questionable.
I also need to point out the fact that her name is Scarlet, and she has red hair. Wow. Amazing. So original. Aside from that though, she’s okay.
3. Kallis 🥉
Kal is a good character. He got the number three spot and I think he deserves it. I liked reading his POV chapters the most. It shows how he’s trying to hold back from his instincts to kill because that’s how he was raised. He’s a tsundere in ways. Cold and harsh on the outside, but deep down, he does care about the greater good. We don’t really get a warm side to him in the first book, but it’s there, I promise.
2. Aurora 🥈
Auri is baby, okay? She’s had to deal with loosing her family and life in one day. Even less than that. She had to deal with visions and hallucinations and new powers of telekinesis in a very short time. Home girl was going through some crap. But through all of that, she still manages to be a sweet girl. She’s never mean to the others, except for irritation at Kal. She tries her best to stay optimistic, and I think she went through the best arc in the group. (Although it’s kind of on the nose.) I love Auri and I think she deserves all the love.
1. Finian 🥇
Finian De Steel? Did you mean, the best character is Aurora Rising?
I love Fin with my entire heart. He is literally the best. He is so funny and snarky and easily has the best lines. But he’s also the most sympathetic in my opinion, along with Auri. You learn about his past and how people tend to treat him differently because he’s disabled, and how he has a hard time connecting with others despite wanting a connection with others so badly.
He’s a great character. I also think they represented his disability pretty well. He has an exosuit which makes him move, but it’s not treated as a cure. The suit gets damaged which affects Fin’s mobility, and he experiences pain because of it. So I think they did a good job with that. And he’s just awesome in general.
I understand that the humour in this book is pretty juvenile. However, some of Fin’s lines actually made me laugh and smile, and I usually don’t laugh or smile much. Humour is subjective and I’m not going to stand here and act like mine is the best. My sense of humour is bad puns and inside jokes between my family so...it was fine for me. Granted, Fin was the only character who actually was good at humour, so there.
Character Relationships
Yes, I think that this needs a section of its own.
Let’s start simple. Tyler and Scarlet. They’re both twins, with Scarlet being the older by like a minute. I think they were written pretty well as siblings, except for the fact that Scarlet calls Tyler her “baby brother” in her internal dialogue/narration including spoken dialogue. Siblings don’t call each other that, I promise you. As someone who has a sibling, reading fictional characters call each other that makes me cringe so much.
Then there’s Kal and Auri, who are essentially “soulmates” in a way by the end of the book. They aren’t canon or anything, it’s just extremely obvious that they’re endgame. Kal told Auri that she was essentially her mate and that they were fated to be together. Some people saw it as some Wolf alpha shiz, I saw it more as soulmates personally. I don’t think that they’re a bad pairing, it’s kind of cute sometimes. But to me, they don’t feel like two people who have feelings for each other. It just feels like a pairing that is usually a popular ship in fandoms.
The best way for me to describe it to you is this. When I see Kal and Auri together, I don’t think, “Oh these two characters have great chemistry. They could be romantic partners.” No, I think, “I feel like fans of this book ship them really hard.”
So in a way, their relationship may be cute, but it doesn’t feel real, because I’ll always see it as something the fans created and not the actual authors, which doesn’t even make sense to me. I’m not even trying to hate on shippers, this pairing just confuses me.
By bigger pet peeve is that the authors seem to want to pair up every other character, because by the end of the book, Fin and Scarlet seem to crush on each other. It’s really annoying when people think that romance is the end game.
I’ve also read reviews where the readers were upset at how heteronormative the couple pairings were. And I agree with them. While reading the book, I always thought Fin was gay. To me, he was coded as gay or bi. Also, there’s a scene where Tyler kisses Kal because a guard was about to catch them. Seeing how the book was released in 2019, I can see how LGBTQ+ readers were disappointed that their identities were used as a really cheap way for the characters to get out of a situation, and not give them actual representation.
(Personally, I wouldn’t mind if Tyler got caught, maybe then he could actually have consequences for his actions.)
But you see, these relationships are okay to me. Not perfect. Definitely room for improvement, but they don’t upset me. But the found family, aka the whole squad, disappointed me. Not enough to make me not want to get the sequel, but enough to make me write about it.
You see, what I was expecting was enemies to friends. Nobody wants to be in this squad, so they constantly argue and mess up their mission because of it. After some near death experiences and real stakes, they start to become friends until they actually see each other as family in a way.
But we don’t get that. At least, I didn’t feel like we got that. Because this found family feels forced to me.
Despite them not liking each other, they don’t argue. They give each other insulting banter, but that doesn’t count as actual differences of opinions. We’re not even shown them disagreeing with each other. We’re told in one of Auri’s chapters, but that’s not enough for me. And it doesn’t correlate with the fact that they didn’t fail a mission. Technically yes, they failed the first one, but because the GIA came to stop it, it didn’t feel like a failure to me. And that was their only failure. They did everything else right, despite them being so different, and hating each other and etc.
The one time we actually got a real disagreement was in chapter 18, and we already know how I feel about chapter 18.
So yeah, their found family is cute and all, but I feel like it could’ve flowed more naturally, so that it would make sense. I remember Kristoff comparing this book to Guardians of the Galaxy on goodreads, which I feel like is insulting to GotG. Because in GotG the characters actually hate each other and go to jail because the first thing they did when they met was fight. So yeah, GotG did it better in my opinion.
And that’s enough for part 2. I can’t believe I have to make a third part, but hopefully it will be the last. If you read this far, thank you. You should consider following me because I might want to do more in-depth reviews like this.

Rewriting Saints Row the Third
So I was messing around writing about my Boss earlier for @occorner and wound up kind of just rewriting entire pieces of SRTT rather than just making small alterations for the character.....So I went ahead and followed through on that accident and wrote out how I personally think a lot of the hollow writing and poor executions of certain parts of the game could have been better and improved. It ended up being a lot more than I was expecting so I’m putting it under a read more. I split it up into 2 parts: Story Changes and Character Changes. And then both of those are broken into smaller parts for each mission arc (the gangs/STAG/dlc) and each character individually.
Also this is just for fun, if you don’t like it then you don’t like it. There’s no point in reblogging this or replying just because you don’t like it yknow? Don’t waste both your time and mine just because you don’t agree with something I just did for the fun of it.
And if you guys like this uuuhhh shoot me a message/ask, I’d totally be down to chat about this stuff and maybe even make more posts like this for the other games in the future!!!
EDIT: Hi....somebody made me regret my decision to keep Kiki’s death canon...so I changed it...thankfully it didn’t have any huge affect on the core of the rewrite, and in fact only very little affect at all
Plot/Story Specific Changes:
Johnny Gat’s “Death”:
Johnny’s “death” wasn’t real obvs, it was like part of Gangstas in Space, like at the beginning that leads up to them going to space and stuff. But in reality Johnny was just kidnapped, cloned, and saved by the Saints after Act 1, but his kidnapping and everything gave the Boss the idea for Johnny’s “death” in the movie
You find Johnny about halfway through the Morningstar mission arc, but he would be seen in a few Syndicate cutscenes beforehand and a lot of implications that he wasn’t actually dead before that
Morningstar:
Loren actually gets like a better mission line following up to and including his death that isn’t just recycled activities disguised as missions
This also includes like a mini-boss fight with the DeWynter twins, that ultimately leads up to them joining the Saints as double agents
Loren gets a boss battle with The Boss, Shaundi, and Johnny fighting him while Pierce and Oleg keep other enemies out of the way and it ends with Johnny getting to personally deal the killing blow and give Loren a beat down like he gave Shogo in SR2 (although definitely not as intense or dark)
Deckers:
I think the biggest things I’d leave the same is the Deckers mission line, I actually don’t think those need to be changed hardly at all, outside of maybe having one or two more story missions without the compulsory activities
STAG:
I would downplay STAG a lot because they were just a weak Ultor carbon copy and took up way too much of SRTT than it should have
I wouldn’t change too much of the STAG missions but I would wait until later in the game to bring them in. Give STAG one or two missions before Murderbrawl XXXI and do the rest afterward
Miscellaneous:
This goes for like literally all 4 arcs, but replace a lot of the compulsory activities with actual unique missions. I think doing One iteration of each activity first is alright because it goes to be like something as a tutorial for them, but past Once, they shouldn’t be reoccuring
Add in one or two missions about The Saints trying to find where Killbane was hiding by interrogating Luchadores and stuff during the STAG arc and then Threeway happens and you find out Killbane is leaving while you’re fighting STAG
Also take out that last choice as a whole no question about it, The Boss lets Killbane get away and saves Shaundi, Viola, and Burt no matter what
While taking the decision out of Threeway, Johnny would go with Angel to try and stop and kill Killbane while The Boss goes to save Shaundi
Ultimately they don’t get there in time but Gat does get a few shots in, injuring Killbane pretty badly in the leg and probably having temporarily crippled him
DLC:
I think instead of the Trouble with the Clones DLC, instead you would get a DLC involving Killbane after he fled the city where you get to fight him and ultimately kill him yourself
It’d be called something like Winner Takes All or like Hell in a Cell which are two types of wrestling matches for those who don’t know. (Winner Takes All is exactly what it sounds like and Hell in a Cell is a cage match with no Escape Clause which is why I think either would fit for names)
Speaking of, make that DLC a double whammy and include Dex, as a business partner with Killbane that you get to fight as well
Angel is a required homie through most of these missions, he helps keep random enemies off your back so you can personally fight and kill Dex, and in turn, you get another mission similar to Murderbrawl XXXI where Angel gets to personally fight Killbane while you take out random enemies, however you also get to help Angel more directly by tossing him weapons to use against Killbane or to use something like a mounted gun to weaken Killbane when he’s cheating and getting the upperhand against Angel
Character Specific Changes:
Zimos:
His character as a whole is,,,,bad imo, so while I didn’t just totall omit him, he’s more or less just a character that The Boss works with to hurt the Syndicate, he’s not really a Saint, just like an accomplice. He would still become a homie at some point though
As a homie he has idle lines to ask how the twins are and The Boss will ask about the secret past and Zimos just says something like “Don’t ask, don’t tell, my man” or keeps the “That’s on a need to know basis, and you don’t need to know” line from the actual game
Angel:
Because I would take out the decision in Threeway and The Boss would let Killbane go, he holds a bit of a grudge and cannot be called as a homie until you have another quick cutscene and short mission where you talk and spar with Angel to help him get out some of his frustration at letting Killbane go
The Boss promises they’re still going to get Killbane because they’re not going to give up that easily
Maybe have The Boss tell Angel about Dex and relate to him while talking about how Dex was one of their best friends and then betrayed them, they never got their revenge but they haven’t given up just yet
Angel and Johnny friendship too!! You can’t tell me they wouldn’t be pals, they spar and talk shit about Killbane a lot
They also trade stories of past fights they’ve been in
Johnny also gives Angel a hardtime because he’s fuckin filthy and lives in such disarray
When Angel tries to snap back with the “so you hate discomfort” Gat shoots back with how the main Saints safehouse was ruins of an old hotel under an abandoned church in the really poor red light district and how before that it was an abandoned church also in one of the poorest areas of Stilwater. He’d definitely say something like “It’s not that I hate discomfort, it’s that I’ve lived that shit for way too long and got out, and I’m not planning on going back to that crap just because some bitch “shamed” me.” The banter becomes somewhat a weird and very Gat-esque peptalk
Viola & Kiki DeWynter:
They both join the Saints and work with them in secret against the Syndicate when Killbane takes over and Loren is killed
Viola and Kiki obviously both get more character development
Viola actually ends up being good friends with Shaundi
Kiki on the other hand ends up better friends with Johnny and they trade snarky remarks whenever everyone is planning out missions and when the Boss makes dumb decisions and shit
Johnny and Kiki end up bonding over small things like their concerns with their looks and just both being the more outspoken and witty counterparts in duos (Johnny’s other half being The Boss and Kiki’s being Viola)
Kiki and Johnny never fail to annoy the shit out of Shaundi because there’s just no end to the snark
Kiki also ends up liking Kinzie, meaning Kinzie gets TWO sisters, Viola AND Kiki, Kinzie couldn’t be happier
As homies, the twins have idle lines about how weird it is The Boss works for Zimos sometimes and ask to make sure The Boss never drags them along when they go to do jobs with Zimos, but they’ll never say why
Killbane threatens to kill Kiki after learning that the twins have double crossed him and are working with The Saints. He takes her as like a “hostage” and sends Viola to go tell The Saints to come “rescue” her while in reality it’s a trap and he’s using Kiki as the bait.
This adds depth to his character and makes him more than just some idiot meatsack who’s powerhungry. He’s a gangleader, he knows how to lead and how to manipulate and how to fucking plan things out further than “HUR DUR ME PUNCH THINGS AND MAKE THEM BLEED”
Viola, ever the realist, knows the likelihood that Killbane has Matt wired into her phone or The Saints’ crib or something so that he would know if she tried betraying him and told The Saints that it’s a trap. So she of course doesn’t tell them, she goes along with his plan all the while thinking of her own plan on how to get out of this problem.
Kiki on the other hand absolutely lets The Saints know it’s a trap as soon as she feasibly can, it’s not much but it does give them a slight upperhand for a minute in the ensuing fight
It’s like a miniboss battle with Killbane, towards the end when it’s obvious The Boss is gonna win, he picks Kiki up in preparation to snap her neck. But Viola shoots at his hand a few times and causes him to drop her sister, he then runs off and Johnny, Angel, and Shaundi chase after him but Viola and The Boss stick around to check on Viola
Kiki got struck by one of the stray bullets on her face, it definitely leaves a nasty scar and fucks up her left eye pretty badly in the long run
Kiki is for the most part out of commission as a homie after the whole kidnapping nonsense, but Viola is as ready as ever to fuckin’ go to town and kill some fuckers now
It’s her way of handling the guilt of almost losing her sister because they didn’t cover their tracks good enough and then by her own attempt to save Kiki, caused her sister to lose an eye
Johnny had taken Loren’s eyepatch kind of as a trophy after killing him, he very awkwardly gives it to Kiki after the mission claiming she probably needs it more than he does right now and seeing as it was Loren’s, she should probably have it regardless
Oleg:
Oleg actually has some of the most depth out of the new characters so I wouldn’t change much if anything?
He definitely would have a love/hate relationship with Johnny
They just don’t get along and butt heads but also they bond over their hatred of Loren/The Syndicate and having been used for the cloning experiments
Johnny also would think Oleg is like badass and cool as fuck and he’d make bets about what outrageous things he thinks Oleg can or cannot lift/destroy with his bare hands
Oleg would also have a lot of respect for Johnny for being such an seemingly average human but still having so much strength and being such a force to be reckoned with
Kinzie:
Kinzie is definitely the company’s favorite because she easily has the most content and depth of any of the other new characters and even more than pre-SRTT characters in SR4 so there’s little to no changes to be done
That being said, I really would want Kinzie and Johnny to also have a love/hate type relationship in SRTT that eventually drops the hate
Like Johnny does Not understand half the shit Kinzie says and she’s really pushy and he just hates it at first and Kinzie hates how he doesn’t listen a lot like the whole situation in SR4 where Kinzie’s always talking about how The Boss doesn’t listen to her and stuff? But with Gat,,,who is worse about it let’s be honest
But throughout the game they both start garnering more respect for the other
Like sometimes Gat’s headstrong guns-blazing outlook pays off a lot better than Kinzie was expecting and Gat’s also totally down to do whatever dangerous and reckless and heavy-lifting work she offers which is useful as hell for Kinzie
And sometimes Gat’s “wing it” planning bites him in the ass and Kinzie saves his ass because she planned how to finish the missions when he didn’t listen because he never listens and she wanted to be prepared for anything
Ultimately they have a very Older Brother-Younger Sister type relationship with Gat becoming really protective of Kinzie and totally laughing his ass off and siding with her when she and The Boss have disagreements/get into fights
Shaundi:
Give her back all that character development and exploration of her depression and survivor’s guilt!! why was that cut!! put it back!!
Additional cutscenes and stuff with Johnny and also The Boss sometimes talking about how Johnny going missing and being believed to be dead scared her and how it affected her
This also means we get to see some of Johnny’s soft side and his pisspoor attempts to comfort her
but also Johnny probably also gets on her case about it like Once because “Well I’m not dead so you can stop worryin’ about it, Shaundi” and it starts a whole little fight that The Boss eventually steps in and settles it
Also Shaundi & Viola friendship: I already mentioned it but just...think about it again ok...
It starts as a rivalry and then they start bonding when Kiki and Johnny are getting closer
They both cannot stand Johnny and Kiki’s snark
And then both of their respective best friends are preoccupied hanging out which leaves them awkwardly hanging out at times
Turns out Viola was actually a fan of Shaundi’s show and at one point considered signing up herself just for the hell of it
Shaundi is completely shocked and they end up doing like impromptu joke-y rounds to get to know each other to pass the time
This includes idle lines when they’re both a homie where they’re laughing while Shaundi asks Viola random questions about herself and stuff and Viola answers
Also completely trash Shaundi’s weird jealousy/hate against Kinzie
Maybe have her as wary and holding a bit of a grudge because Kinzie’s an ex-fed at first, but ultimately they get past it pretty quickly
Most of their conversations seen and stuff are them talking tech or talking about their relationships with other characters, there’s a few where Kinzie tries digging into Shaundi’s past and Shaundi tries to dig back though
Also definitely maybe talk/show her development between SR2 and SRTT more rather than just suddenly dropping such a dramatic collection of changes and “development” immediately and not really elaborating a lot yknow?
Pierce:
There’s not much I would change because I actually liked his character development a lot, it wasn’t as abrupt and dramatic feeling as Shaundi’s and he had a decent amount of depth so I don’t think there’s much to add aside from what you would expect from his dialogues with Johnny and Kiki
Johnny:
This is just here to be respectful, pretty much 99% of everything I have to say for Johnny has been said in all the other sections

Book Love part 9 - Simm (Rise of Trouble Vol. 3)
Simm - RoT Vol. 3 picks up a couple of months after RoT Vol. 2 ends. Things are moving along. Sari’s gone back to her life in Issin Sound and all that entails and shouldn’t entail, and stealing her professor’s timetell because he left himself open. He deserved it and she probably should have kept it. And Jayd is suffering lectures from his family because apparently that is his life now. He misses his seamaid and, after a rather explicit letter from her, decides he’s waited long enough to return. Besides, he has a promise to keep. And another lecture to avoid. No really, the king is there, and he’s doing all he can to avoid him. Weigh anchor ye fools, weigh anchor. Aye, I know ‘tis the king, weigh anchor!
The world continues to expand as Sari and Jayd continue their trek towards happily ever after. There are nosy guardians, and insistent spirits, and annoying siblings...who may not be so annoying, and fathers doing unexpected things. There is dance practice to be had, and annoying dance partners who are still vastly annoying. Why are you bothering me, Kittie? Plus celebrations to be had, lectures to suffer, bargains to be made, and lots of pirating to be done, actual pirating.
And now onward! I introduce:
Tumblr media

Princess Sari has much upon her mind. Classes about pirates. Dancing. Her father sneaking from the palace. Her twin brother stumbling about. Why is Kittie bothering her? Troublemaking spirits. Pretending she and a certain pirate are not married. Jayd Lightning wants nothing more than to be with Sari. His son wants him to be with Sari. He wished his uncle would leave him be. Wait! Is that a bit of treasure in need of liberating?

Preview of Simm Rise of Trouble Vol. 3 under the cut..
Lightning flashed across the sky, lighting the room in a sudden burst of brilliance. Jayd froze, his body and mind at war. He wanted to fling open the window and join the sky in slinging power about—Yeryl and Zasara he wanted to do that—but he knew Magic was going to come running into the room, frightened, wanting to make certain neither he nor Sari were going to leave him.
As the second strike of lightning bloomed bright, Magic came running into the room as predicted and leapt onto the bed. Sari, who was already sitting up and wearing Jayd’s shirt, prepared as she was after the first flash of lightning, caught Magic and pulled him in close, offering him the comfort he sought.
“All is well, my little love; your papa and I are right here.”
“The storm…”
“’Tis outside and offers us no harm.” She quietly began to hum, wishing to soothe Magic’s anxiety.
“Magic,” Jayd ran a hand over his son’s flyaway hair, “I wish to share something with you. Uncertain I have been how to show you for never would I wish to offer you fright. ‘Tis part of my magik as a Lightning and a part of me, an important part.”
Another strike of lightning and Magic buried himself further against Sari.
“Know you that never would I bring you harm, yes?”
“Mh.” Magic nodded but stayed huddled against Sari.
“Magic, look at me. I would show you something.” When he could see his son’s eyes, he held out his hand and little bits of lightning danced upon his palm. “Lightning, ‘tis a gift of mine.” The bits of lightning arced from his palm to his thumb then from finger to finger before returning to his palm and dancing a jig on the two legs it grew. It was a trick that his own father showed him when he was a lad.
Magic ducked away hiding against Sari, but then slowly turned back hearing and feeling Sari clapping and laughing. He stared at the streaks of light racing around his father’s hand, soon mesmerized and unaware of the strikes of lightning outside.
“Ye have lightning, Papa.”
“I do. ‘Tis a part of me, always has it been. On a night like this, I would open the window and send it out into the sky, to see who could make the better strikes. But never would I frighten you, son.”
“Ye talk like ye do in Berja.”
Jayd laughed. He then took on the parlance of his pirateself. “I am. Methinks I forgot to change after Sari’s papa left.”
“But why would ye be different?”
“Not everyone need know that I be a pirate.”
“Like Uncle Arno?”
“He knows—his mother, my great grandmother was a pirate, just like my grandpapa was, and Aunt Sprite is—but I need be the Titledman for the rest of Berja. That Sari’s papa be a king as well, ‘twas proper for me to be the Titledman with him as I will need be Titledman for much of Artezan since we belong to Sari and she be their princess. But when we are upon the sea, always will we be pirates.”
Magic nodded, a little smile on his face, but just as quickly buried himself back against Sari when a loud clap of thunder rolled overhead. “Stay.”
“We go nowhere, my little love.”
Jayd brushed a hand over his son’s hair, feeling helpless. “Magic, all is well.”
“Mayhap, rogue, you might show Magic just how pretty lightning can be.”
“Aye.”
Leaving the bed, but after putting on a pair of breeches and a warming spell—it was winter after all—Jayd walked over to the wide window and pulled the two sides open, the curtains fluttering dramatically. He breathed deep of the lightning charged air, letting it wash over him. It prickled his skin and dared him to step outside, to dance with the danger. Had it been just he, he might have done so.
He heard his son whimper and looked over his shoulder: Sari had moved to the edge of the bed, Magic still tight in her arms, a blanket wrapped about the two of them to ward off the cold of the night. “Watch your papa, Magic. Right here I am and I go naewhere.”
Thrusting his hand out the window, he built up his magik, let the lightning spark and flurry about his hand. When it felt ready, he flung it towards the sky in an impressive eruption of light. Flaring his fingers wide, he made it bloom, jagged veins spreading out across the sky.
He grinned over his shoulder when Sari clapped and cheered. Magic was staring with the beginnings of awe. Relief filled him, shoving away the fear that he terrorized his child.
“Shall I do it again?” More relief when Magic nodded. “That a lad.”
Jayd once more gathered the magik about his hand and sent it dancing towards the sky. This time he heard two sets of clapping and, with growing confidence, set about working a third strike. By the fifth strike he was starting to get a little fancy with how he was throwing the lightning, buoyed by his son’s cheers.
He was about to send out his seventh strike, his heart rate and breath steady, his fingers not yet tingling, when a slender man—one could almost call him wispy—appeared on the low stone wall surrounding the terrace in a flash of light. Jayd held the lightning; waiting, prepared to send it at the stranger did he dare make a threatening move.
The man hopped down from the wall, an arrogant smirk twisting his lips. He had white blond hair and shadowy skin with patches of pale, which appeared to move as he did. The man wore naught but a white cloth about his hips and Jayd knew not how it stayed on as the wind grabbed at it ruthlessly, let alone how he withstood the cold.
“Are you the fool who dared challenge me?”
“I…I offered no challenge.”
“Sending lightning into the sky while I did so, I take that as a challenge. Did no one teach you any manners, mortal?”
“I wished to show my son that he need not fear storms.”
“Of course he needs fear storms. Storms are things to be feared!” He threw his arms out and lightning flared overhead followed by a loud boom of thunder, chortled at the child’s cry of fear.
“Who are you?” Jayd kept his eyes on the stranger, trusting Sari to keep Magic safe. He wanted to let loose the lightning he held, angered that this man dared frighten Magic. But the bastard called him mortal. He wished not to fight a possible guardian, never would he survive.
‹‹’Tis Father Air’s fool of a son, Arelev. Very few immortals hold any like for him. He is unpredictable, oft volatile, and always a fool. Be most wary of him, my son.››
Arelev snorted. “Mortals, they forget so easily. I am…”
“Leaving.” Nekor grabbed Arelev by the scruff of the neck, made the other man look at him. “’Tis my nephew you threaten and ‘tis not a deed I look kindly upon.”
“He challenged me!”
“No, you eternal fool! Descended he is from The Lightning. The storm drew him and he did what only comes instinctually to his Line, to his Blood. Do you think to threaten he or his family again, my actions will not be so benevolent.” With that, Nekor turned and…
He had thought to throw Arelev into the sky, but changed his mind. With a wave of his hand, he opened a doorway. Beyond stood a giant of a man at a workbench pounding something with a hammer, sparks flying about him, soft grunting noises slipping from his lips with each strike. The man looked over, a frown upon his face, the long scar on his cheek pulled tight. Father Fire used to wear a beard, one that reached beyond his collarbones, which hid the scar, but too often it caught fire as he worked.
“Nekor.”
“Father Fire, I do apologize for the intrusion, but I thought you might care for a bit of company.” He shoved Arelev through the portal. “Mayhap your forge is in need of a boost?”
Father Fire grunted as he brought his hammer down once more, all without looking at what he struck. He stepped back from his bench, large hammer still in hand, and tossed what he was working on into the furnace. He scratched his chin, missing his beard—mayhap a short one would cause no issue—and stared at the heap that was Arelev. Another grunt.
“My forge could indeed use a boost, though I am uncertain of the company. What manner of trouble is he in this time?”
“He thought to threaten his mortal sibling line for daring to compete against him, though ‘twas quite unknown there was competition.”
“Which line?”
“The Lightning’s. The one in question is Önia’s mortal son.”
“The fool does hold an unbecoming ego and an overblown sense of pride. I assume I need not ask whose lightning was best?”
“My nephew has quite a knack, but ‘twas for his son he offered such creativity; the lad holds a fear of storms and he wished to ease his fright.”
Father Fire looked through the portal at the three mortals, the child held tight against the woman, the man standing ready to defend his family. The man was definitely from the House of Lightning with the silver hair at his temples and those lightning-flecked blue eyes. He found himself smiling when the little boy peeked from the woman’s hold with large, wide eyes, but he sensed no fear of him. It had been a time since he was around children. He liked children. But for some reasons the others thought he jested about such a thing. Just because he oft disliked their children meant not he disliked all children.
“My apologies for this fool’s behavior; he thinks too highly of himself.”
Arelev sat up. “He challenged me!”
“Hush, you fool,” Father Fire hissed. Small streams of smoke curled from his mouth. “How could he offer challenge when he knew not that you even existed? No, answer not. Be of some use, go aid my forge.” Turning from the other immortal, offering his back to the fool as he walked to the portal doorway, he gave his attention to Magic. “What is your name, little one?”
“I be Magic Stryke. Mamé was Fierce Stryke.”
“I should have guessed. Never would a Stryke feel fear of me.” Of their Father of Fathers, but he kept that to himself wishing to protect the child from the others. “Ah, I know what you need!” Father Fire held his hand out and a finely forged sword and expertly tooled scabbard appeared in his hand. “A gift. Always will Stryka serve you well, never harming you unless you harm her.”
“’Tis beautiful,” Magic whispered, certain he had never seen shinier treasure. He wanted to go touch it, to mayhap give it a hug. “She sings, too.”
“Aye, she does, but only to those deserving of her.” He placed the sword and scabbard just inside the room and leaned it against the wall, gave the handle a soft pat. Father Fire turned to Jayd. “You will keep Stryka safe until your lad is of an age, teach him how to care for her properly, or I will know the why of it.”
“Aye, ‘twill be guarded most fiercely.”
“Before I go, might I see your lightning, lad? Your Mother of Mothers is quite spectacular with her ability; always does she enjoy offering a demonstration.”
Jayd nodded, what else could he do? He forced himself to walk back to the window having moved to stand before Sari and Magic when the second immortal arrived. His feet felt like slabs of unliftable stone, his mind bombarded by Nekor’s presence—though far was it from the time Nekor spoke directly within his mind. Still was he Jayd. Still was he in control of himself.
With a deep breath, he called the magik back to his hand, felt the spark and crackle prancing about his fingers. How was he to do this? What sort of demonstration was Father Fire looking for? Such pressure he felt. What would happen did his magik fizzle?
“Ye can do it, Papa!” Magic yelled.
He felt himself relax hearing his son cheer for him. He could do this. With a quick glance over his shoulder, he offered a broad pirate’s grin. “For ye, my fierce lad, always.”

What's Soul Eater? (And do you recommend watching it?)
If you can get passed some fanservice then yes I recommend it, but if it bothers you too much there’s no need to put yourself through it. It’s not as bad as say, bnha, since the “fanservice character” is mostly a background one and an adult, but ofc its still pretty annoying and obviously not ok. But being critical of things is an important part of media consumption that everyone does, so never assume that just because I like a show I also like EVERY aspect about it (Not just in the moral sense but writing and production too). Also when going into it it’s important to note that the fanservice is a lot heavier in the first 3 episodes because they’re all prologues so they’re a bit goofier, since they’re divorced from the main story and only serve as intros.
Anyway, the show itself is about a school called the Death Weapon Meister Academy, a school started by Lord Death (the grim reaper) where kids are trained to fight witches and monsters known as kishin, kishin are created when people consume human souls. The students that fight them are paired, one is a weapon and the other a meister. Weapons are people who literally have the ability to turn themselves into actual weapons, their meister partner is the person who wields them, and their power becomes a lot stronger when they resonate their souls. Weapons eat the souls of kishin and witches to become stronger, if a weapon eats 99 kishin souls and one witch soul (which is VERY hard to get) they can become a death scythe, a weapon Lord Death can use.
I think the best thing about the show is the characters, they’re all really fleshed out and have good arcs but they’re also so goofy and charming and fun, like you really just love their dynamics and personalities so much that you root for them, especially as you learn more about them and their friendships and everything. You feel like you’re having fun with them a lot of the time. Plus, their designs are all really good, I always joke that “none of them look like they’re going to the same place”, but in all honesty it’s just because they’re all so distinct in the way they look and dress, even just the small differences in Liz and Patty’s outfits. Another huge draw for the show is the animation, it’s amazing. The show itself is over 10 years old but the animation is so fucking good to this day, it’s fluid and dynamic, Studio Bones knew what they were doing, and they still do just look at MP100.
Here are some of the main characters
Lord Death: The grim reaper, founder of the DWMA, and kind of a huge goofball. But he can also be pretty scary when he damn well wants.
Maka Albarn: She’s basically a meister prodigy, she strives to be as good as her mom was. Despite being the honor roll kid, she’s definitely not afraid to break any rules and follows her gut and fists a lot.
Soul Evans: Nicknamed Soul Eater, Soul is a scythe and Maka’s weapon partner. He’s a self proclaimed “cool guy” but he really cares about his friends and meister more than anything.
Black*Star: Spelled with an actual star, he’s an assassin but he’s not good at it. He’s loud and obnoxious and hyperactive, but he really believes that one day he’s gonna surpass God.
Tsubaki Nakatsukasa: Black*Star’s weapon partner, she’s easily the kindest and most rational out of the main group. She’s patient and polite, but also one of the strongest weapons out there because of her ability to be more than one type of weapon.
Death The Kid: He’s Lord Death’s son and as a grim reaper he has a huge amount of pressure put on him for what he should live up to, so this manifested into some pretty intense OCD and an obsession with symmetry (Sidenote as someone with OCD I just really like him)
Liz and Patty Thomson: Twin pistols and Kid’s partners, they used to be heavily involved in criminal activity and known as the “Devils of Brooklyn”. Now Liz is more of a stereotypical teenage girl, while Patty is a lot more child-like, though their past does sort of show sometimes.
Crona: Crona doesn’t join the main group until later in the series, they’re a meister and their weapon partner is… Their own blood. Crona starts off as an antagonist but gets redeemed as we find out that they were pretty much only being forced to do anything bad by their terribly abusive mother. (Sidenote 2 as an nonbinary person I just really like them)
Obviously there are a lot more characters but I think these are the most important to know. But even besides them the entire cast of characters is so much fun, they’re just all so lively and colorful and charming. But on top of that they’re also really well written and I love them all.

Rejoice! Long-Winded Anon is here with another question. You have dedicated a lot of time and chapter space developing the side characters more than many fics usually would because most authors focus much more on the main characters, bending or even sacrificing other in-universe elements to fit their preferred vision, as shipping fics often do. But you take much more care writing other characters. Was that planned? Or spontaneous in the flow of plotting and world building?
On great measure it’s spontaneous, but it’s mainly because the story has required it. I will say, I did have a lot of canon characters presence when the story started out. Often readers seemed to be just thrilled to recognize old characters in new roles, and I had been working, up until then, with the notion that the more canon characters I used, the happier I’d keep everyone, pretty much.
So, all the way back in the first arc we had Shoji, a one-time character in canon, from the Headband, taking up a recurring role in the story as clerk in the Grand Royal Dome. Likewise, Song was a one-time canon character and she took on a role that turned her into a constant presence in the story, with her own development and relationships with the main characters. Smellerbee has only featured for one chapter, but she was there anyhow. Piandao trains Sokka, same role he had in canon, but for a longer period of time and eventually vanishes for yet-to-be-revealed plot reasons. Chan and Ruon Jian had roles too, Chan a relatively brief one so far, Ruon Jian a constant but background role nonetheless: marrying Mai off to a completely unknown character could have been an easier way out, but offering a one-time canon character further relevance actually might intrigue certain readers, I guessed. There’s June’s very controversial role from early on in the story too, Toph’s first sponsor is the same guy who was hired by her parents to track her down in canon, Xin Fu. Jet’s initial appearance is brief, even if his hypnosis might have helped many readers guess he’d come back for more eventually. Even Haru, who yes, is relevant in canon but he only shows up in a few episodes regardless, gets a bigger role here as Ty Lee’s gladiator. The hammer-wielding earthbender from Zuko Alone? He’s the Twin Hammer, the earthbender Sokka fights in Garsai’s Arena, and the first earthbender he defeats.
Yeah, there were lots of less important characters even at the early stages of the story, and several OCs who didn’t amount to much. Smellerbee’s sponsor? Literally got his name from a brand of eggrolls that they used to sell in my country XD Hosang bite-sized eggrolls were so nice… and as I needed a name, that came to mind and he was her sponsor. The Spawn of the Volcano is also an OC, as is the Hallowed Rock and frankly nearly every gladiator who’s not easily identifiable. But many unfamiliar and new characters, like Kuan, Aonu and Renzhi, Kino, Tiang, Seethus, the homeless people Azula helps, Haiyan and Yang, the entirety of the Blue Pack, Hina, most gladiators introduced after Haru…? Practically all of them are outright OCs, and that’s because I really felt I would have been stretching believability past an excessive point if somehow I kept choosing to repurpose characters who had showed up in canon at some point.
To put things simply… Miyuki and the Herbalist couldn’t have showed up if I didn’t have Sokka and Azula traveling to the Herbalist Institute. Aunt Wu as well, along with Meng, couldn’t have showed up believably in the story if they didn’t go to Makapu. Even Jeong Jeong is very deliberately operating in the northwestern Earth Kingdom because that is where Aang finds him in canon. If I’d featured them in locations that were completely incompatible with who they were established to be in canon, I would have been hurting the story rather than enriching it.
So I can’t, for instance, have Onji and Hide and Shoji and basically all of Aang’s classmates from the Headband moving to the Capital when they all lived in an island in the outskirts of the Fire Nation, because yeah, maybe some would have moved away (like Shoji did)! But would they all travel and move away to the same places? Would they all choose professions that coincidentally would align with whatever Sokka and Azula are up to at the moment, so that they’re relevant to the story somehow? Seems like a stretch, doesn’t it?
I really think I just reached a point where I couldn’t stretch believability so far without risking the story’s integrity. I couldn’t just make Hide Azula’s Guard Captain, for example, when all logic dictates that there should be lots of competent firebenders and soldiers in the Fire Nation who would be far more suited for the role than a completely common boy who showed no special aptitudes in canon other than being an annoying teacher’s pet. Hide apparently would have grown to be in the military, says the Wikia, but how many soldiers does the Fire Nation military have? Soooo many… and why would we not get to know them? Why should we only stick to the ones we met through canon, when there are already so few of those  and most of them wouldn’t suit the role of Azula’s Guard Captain anyhow?
That logic steered me towards OCs over canon characters in the later stages of the story. Kino, Aonu, Renzhi, Yang, Haiyan, the entire Blue Pack, Hina, Rhone, Seethus… they’re all new characters, but as long as they fit in the roles the story needs them to fulfill, there’s no real reason for them to feel out of place the way they could if I was forcing them in, the way some writers do with overpowered OCs who break all logic in the setting they’re written into. Rhone, in particular, received far from a warm welcome when I introduced his character, but his character is an answer to a question canon brought up but didn’t really address at all: Yon Rha confirmed in the Southern Raiders that there WAS a leak of information in the South Pole that enabled them to figure out there was one last waterbender there. Canon never addressed this. I’m not going to pretend my way of addressing it is the one way to go… but it’s something. Likewise, Sokka’s increasing popularity would only logically result in him developing a fanclub like the one we saw for Suki early on in the story: why should the characters in that fanclub be anyone we already knew? There are so many people living in the Capital, lots of them unknown in canon, but they’re there. Is it more reasonable for common people who live in a city to be part of this club, or for people like, I don’t know, Star, to move all the way from Ba Sing Se only to fawn all over Sokka in the Fire Nation Capital? Which option makes more sense, ultimately?
And that’s really where my logic went in the end. ATLA did a decent job at showing us the common, ordinary folk who make a living in their world despite the chaotic war. Those are the people Aang helped often, and they didn’t all need some insanely exaggerated reason to be where they were, or to be who they were. Had I dragged them out of their natural living spaces, like for instance making Jin into a gladiator? It would have been ridiculous to no end. Her role and story work in Gladiator because it feels plausible within what canon established for her. And that’s how I’ve tried to keep it for all the canon characters I use. If there are no canon characters who can fulfill a certain role? Then an OC it is!
I admit, it was a lot of fun repurposing characters, but stories like mine reach a point where you can’t really do that believably anymore. I think starting off with as many canon characters in relevant roles as possible did help a lot with capturing the interest of readers who were intrigued by how much the world they knew from ATLA had changed in this setting, but it wasn’t sustainable to do that forever.
As for focusing more on canon characters than on OCs, I’m pretty sure I’ve done that, on the most part. Perhaps the only exceptions for it are characters like Rui Shi, Xin Long and Kino, but other than them I think the core cast of the story is comprised by canon characters. I guess I might be forgetting someone important, I don’t know anymore xD but as to why OCs get attention where they would just be standing in the background in many other stories… I guess because I’m not a big fan of static characters with little to no personality. Not to say all my OCs have personalities, pretty sure I have some terribly flat ones xD but I do want my characters to feel like real people with lives of their own, whether OCs or not. So when Dong cries a river because his girlfriend Yumiko dumped him, he feels like a character whose life didn’t just begin as soon as Azula stepped into his room to inspect it. When Kino airs his grievances to Aang and Katara about how his fellow soldiers ignore him no matter what he does, he also feels like someone who’s had struggles, however ridiculous they were, before he got to know them. When Haiyan and Yang have no money because they eloped and have been struggling to get on their feet ever since, it’s clear they’re going through their own problems too. Rui Shi may not have any issues of that magnitude, but he has a very obvious difficulty: his charge makes his life unnecessarily difficult ever since she got it into her head to get a gladiator :’D And there’s next to no reason for him to be pleased for that.
Ultimately, writing an OC is no different from writing a canon character as long as you let them have lives of their own, even if simple lives. And that’s what has guided me into writing this story and the characters featuring in it as I have.

Tropes/Cliches I Hate
So there are a lot of lists stating cliches people hate and this is another one. If you like these, that’s fine, I just get irked when I see them myself and want to rant a little. This isn’t a top ten list, just a list of things I dislike. There won’t be any romance tropes here as they deserve and have their own list. Also, most of these are story telling tropes, so just a heads up. Anyway, let me know what you personally think and tropes you hate and why. Oh, and SPOILERS! Before warned.
Tropes/Cliches I Hate
Too Much Drama/Unearned Drama: My most HATED trope. Don’t get me wrong; I like drama okay, but if it’s over loaded or feels like it was just thrown in for by the writers I get frustrated. Yes I know that writers do that to keep people interested, but can’t they make it feel natural or earned?
I liked “Finding Carter’s” drama; This is a story about a girl who discovers she was kidnapped as a toddler by the woman she called mother all her life and being reunited with her birth family. The drama makes sense and is earned by the whole family; (SPOILERS)
Carter’s whole world is turned upside down so her attitude, while mean at times is understandable.
Taylor has spent her whole life terrified of disappearing like her sister and has had her fear fed by her parents, so has lived a sheltered life.
Their mom lost a kid which has affected her marriage so she started to sleep with her partner and was even planning to leave, however when she found Carter she didn’t want to break her family again. Hell, even the drama with the villain is understandable as Carter and Taylor came from her eggs/she was a surrogate mom who was sleeping with the father at the time. You can see why she might think the twins were hers and that she had a right to take one. This is great drama and I would have loved it, but then they had to give the side characters the angstiest backstories they could which distracts from the family at times and felt unneeded.
And I know; that what drama are about. Angst central, I know, but that’s why I don’t watch a lot of drama. At the very least I want it to be earned an in character or story.
The fifth book of Harry Potter did this fairly well as all the drama came from the characters and their actions. Sirius died due to Harry’s impulsive actions and Dumbledore want to keep Harry in the dark to “protect him.” And the drama hits all the harder because it’s something that could happen in real life (minus the magic stuff.).
A bad example is Gilmore Girls where they force the character April in with a bunch of random drama just to keep Luke and Lorelei apart. There was a legitimate way to put off the wedding; have Luke be afraid of rushing things and feeling like he’s the one who has to make all the compromises and give up things and he runs away for awhile. Hell, they could have kept the plot line of her jumping into bed with Christopher because as terrible as that was it was still a very Lorelei thing to do. But the plot with April and everything after? UNNEEDED AND UNWANTED.
We’re not together, but I’m Pregnant/The Baby Plot: Okay, I love babies—when I don’t have to change them or be woken up at 3:00 in the morning. They’re soft, cute, adorable, and squishy! However in TV the baby is usually born to a “will they won’t they” couple as a way to force them together when the writers made the audience believe they were separating them or for drama. News flash writers; if the only way you can keep a couple together is to throw a baby in the mix, then just give up on the pair!
Babies are used for like one arc to cause drama, then are tossed to the side with maybe a passing mention so it’s like what’s the point?
It’s a cheap way to keep a couple together. A child should NOT be a plot deceive to keep a couple together or create drama. Ross and Rachel were the worse along with Belle and Rumple; Ross and Rachel had fallen into a slump and the audience were starting to move on and look at other options for them so the writers thought they could yank us back by revealing they had sex and Rachel was pregnant. All this led to was the same slapstick they went through when they were together before and they never worked through the issues they had before, mainly that they were jealous, possessive, and vindictive except now they had a BABY.
With the Rumbelle the writers couldn’t decide what the hell they wanted with Rumple (did they want him to be evil or a hero), but knew his actions were pushing Belle (and the fans) away. So what did they do? Threw a baby into the mix with a whole contrived plot that was just—what? I mean, it COULD have worked, but not the way the writers did it.
Writers, people; IT IS NEVER A CHILD’S JOB TO FIX A COUPLE. A baby is not a plot device they are people and deserve more respect than they get. If a couple can’t stay together by themselves, then a baby is not going to help. All it does is trap two people and why would want a couple that’s forced together that way?
“We’re trying to protect ya so we ain’t telling ya shit” and Bad communication skills: How many problems in stories could be solved if two people just sat down and talked instead of keeping secrets. Like “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” If Dumbledore had told Harry that Voldemort could get into his head and could hurt people Sirius might be alive. And in a couple? I don’t need to list an example. You’re already thinking of a moment where a couple got into a fight because they didn’t just sit down and talk.
That being said I do like this trope as a potential reason for a hero being ignorant of their past at the beginning of a series as I like the hero from a muggle world. At the very least I want the person keeping the secrets to be called out on it.
Insane maniac pixie girl: This a low one as there are some I like, however I feel this character is over done lately and honestly I can only take so much of the personality. They’re always so loud, screaming all the time, squeaky, and have no sense of personal space. I mean, I like Webby and Mabel, but even then I can only take so much squealing. (I dunno, maybe I have sensitive ears.)
I’m not dead!: Disney gets away with this because the brought backs happen towards the end of the film and isn’t done time and again in the same movie. Compare to the Dragon Ball series were death is like a mosquito bite. Why should I care if they get hurt or the world dies? Just wish them back and everything is fine! Seriously, is anyone who watches DBZ concerned when a character gets hurt or dies still? It’s a cheap trick that feels like a “ha! Fooled you!” moment.
High school drama / Skewd Priorities: Okay when I say high school drama I mean focusing on a school dance when the world is at stake or worrying about whether or not a boy likes you when a murder is on the loose, or focusing on school junk when we as the readers want tto focus on the fantasy elements. This is mostly in YA dealing with kids, so some of this is understandable, but even so it’s not fun to read and even teenagers hate being portrayed like this (at least the one or two I know). When I  was teenager I liked the prom and stuff for quiet moments in stories, but NOT when there was a villain loose or danger was coming. Whenever that popped up I was like, ‘bitch wtf is wrong with you! Who cares about a zit when you have super magical powers.’ When I read a fantasy I want to focus on the fantasy elements, not school! School is boring.
Too Easily Forgiven: Forgiveness is wonderful thing, however it should be earned and you know some things can’t and shouldn’t be forgiven. For me it’s murder. Now if it’s between two warriors in a fight that’s one thing, but hurting or killing innocent civilians? No. No, no. Or hey, what if a person has been horribly bullying you or making your life miserable? Do you have to forgive, fuck no. Now I’m not saying you should seek revenge, but I’d rather they just choose that they don’t want to be angry and anymore and decide to move on.
Forgiveness should be earned when they’ve truly hurt someone and even if they feel remorseful, characters still have the right to be angry when they’ve been hurt or had someone they love taken from them.
All humans /muggles are bastards / idiots: Yeah, humans are assholes. We get it. No one knows how bad humans are than other humans, but you know what? Humans have done amazing things to conquer natural selection and the fact that other humans is humanity’s greatest enemy shows just how powerful the human race is. And not everyone wants to blow up shit, some of us work VERY hard to help and save everything we can and the rest are just trying to live our lives without hurting anyone. We may not be top dog, but we’re not bottom of the barrel either. And why should other races get put on pedestal as the woobie race or holier than thou? That doesn’t make them more interesting it just makes them annoying. I see this trope in almost every fantasy, can’t we switch it up a little?
magical speciesism / the blood must remain pure: Ignoring the real life implications this trope’s just been over done. Can’t we turn this around and have it that cross breeding between a magical and a human is considered the norm or a good thing? Switch it up a bit?
Ron the death Eater and Draco in Leather pants: This annoying enough in the fandom where we like to exaggerate and things we like and dislike, but in the actual show it’s insulting to the character AND the fans. If there’s something wrong with the character then the writers should make an arc to improve them, not drag the character through the mud.
On the other end if a character is an asshole you can’t just make them a hero suddenly and expect the audience to buy it. The characters have to earn their redemption.
And those are ten tropes I hate. How about you guys? What’s your thoughts? Do you hate them or am I alone? And what do guys hate to see in stories?

Alright, you know what?...
... I’m gonna go w/ the devil I know here. And right now? That’s original Woz.
Oh, yeah, and I watched a raw of Zi-O 17.
In no order at all.
Also, note that from here on out, I will refer to ‘original Woz’ simply as Woz, and New Woz as just that:
He can change the future by writing in his Nook? That seems kinda OP. I’m assuming there are constraints on it.
My hunch feeling rn is that the original quartet is gonna be ‘squad’ and that New Woz is gonna be... Not squad?
Hmmm... Things I’d most likely love: everything repeatedly going on about Geiz and Sougo killing each other/having to fight and them never doing that bc we make our own future here; someone pulling a loophole; not having the Zi-Ot3 turn on each other at all, despite everyone telling them they will (kinda related to the above); Woz getting backstory (that’s a given); learning what Woz and Geiz’s history is; Woz getting a redemption arc if he needs one and not being a manipulative meanie; the Zi-Ot3 deciding that they want to make their own future where none of them have to kill each other and things are happy; Woz deciding to humour them and play along, then one day realising he’s become the mask and gotten suckered in; Woz fighting New Woz for the others’ sake (like if New Woz is against the third timeline idea, or something) and getting his Driver; hell, we could move up to Zi-Ot4, I would be down for that.
And the award for realising when there are two of someone goes too... Not Tsukuyomi. Seriously girl, get your eyes checked?
Oh, yeah, and the boys are still super in sync. See? Proof that they’re meant to work together.
I feel like KR Shinobi’s henshin had references, but it’s been too long since I watched Ninninger. The frog. Definitely the frogs, I remember the frogs.
I’m waiting for Geiz to be like ‘Two of Woz? Just what the world needs!’
Yeah, seriously. No way he’s going to trust some random version of Woz just bc he’s got a beret.
Hey, Toei, please don’t make Geiz into a villain? Please? For me? Oh, what am I saying, Toei doesn’t care about me. But I would love if everything is about how they’re going to fight... But then never do, except maybe at the end where they decide they’d better fulfil the prophecy--by having  pillow fight or something.
Confession time, though: I know I whine about him a lot, but I am actually quite fond of Woz. I just wish he’d, you know, stop trying to force Sougo into becoming something he doesn’t want to be (aka murderous tyrant)--or if he’s not doing that... Well, then I’d love to know that, so that I can stop holding it against him.
Also if he could not be a manipulative bastard. Though it hasn’t been quite as bad since that one ep...
Another thought, though... Except when he’s openly obnoxious and pushing the Ouma Zi-O card, Tsukuyomi seems quite civil with him... Which might indicate that part of the issue between him and Geiz is personal. I mean, I do like the brothers theory, but I’m open.
God, would they be twins? Or would one of them be older? My first thought would be Woz, but who knows?
But this could hit all of my darlings--all the friendship, from reluctant to friends-enemies-friends again, us against the world, emotionally awkward, very earnest boos who are too good and honest to be assassins--seriously, honey, what are you doing here?
Okay, I’m very tired and getting nonsensical. But also Keisuke looks like he’s having the time of his life, and I respect that.
Ugh, this Nook! Geiz, tell him to stop, apparently he likes you.
I feel like the last thing Geiz wants is a Woz following him around.
The tentative squad breakdowns are Geiz/Sougo and Woz/Tsukuyomi and that is kinda hilarious to me. XD
(Tentative bc I’m still unsure about Woz)
HE HAS A HOOD. WHY ARE YOU WEARING A BERET. Also I don’t like his laugh. Woz, kill him and take his stuff! But... Leave the beret.
Also, I think Tsukuyomi has been wearing a sweater and skirt all this time, and honestly, cute.
A big thing here is that Geiz and Tsukuyomi don’t know New Woz at all--like, Woz is the one they’re familiar w/. I really hope the show has them do the same thing I am--stick w/ the Woz you know.
Seriously, I feel like Keisuke is deliberately making New Woz seem as untrustworthy as possible and it’s working.
Sougo, stop getting distracted, and look where you’re waving that! It’s okay, Geiz, he doesn’t mean it. He’s just dumb. ^^
Alright, time to see if Geiz can pass the spot the difference test. Tsukuyomi failed, Sougo passed, and person who's double it is isn’t allowed to play. You’re up, sweetie. You get a pass on last time, bc you were out of commission, but even though you’re my son and I love you dearly, I don’t have high hopes.
No, wait. Oh, come on, guys, at least give him a chance to guess!
He was just plain ready to fight him, oh my god. I love my son so much.
This part of why I’m so excited to see him and Ryuga together. Bc while Geiz is like, very intense and serious ‘we must go fight things’ Ryuuga is all cheerful ‘Yeah! Let’s fight things!’ Both of them respond to stuff by trying to fight it, just in different ways.
Also, Woz looks vaguely concerned there? Might just be general concern for the situation though. Watch it, dude, I might start to think you’re worried about Geiz.
Accidentally paused at a moment where New Woz looks like he is attempting to take flight. Would not put it past him in that outfit.
Not sure what the outfit has to do with this, but I’m too tired to delete anything now.
And thus, everyone was very fucking confused.
Woz looks offended. Pretty sure Geiz has even less clue what’s happening.
Like, we can’t see him through the helmet, but he really seems like he’s considering backing away slowly or something.
It’s like that ‘I’m not sure what x is and at this point I’m afraid to ask’ thing.
I think Geiz is literally in shock. Actually, I think everyone is in shock. Like, they’re all just standing here staring. Honestly? That’s what I’d be doing.
So... Did alternate future Geiz send New Woz, or is New Woz just... Here on his own?
New Woz be like ‘hey, bitch, I can transform!’ But now I’m also wondering where he got the Driver.
Also, like, I know my mind control fic was spawned from a thought I had, but... Like, that’s a way I could accept it. Like, if someone--maybe New Woz, maybe someone else--tries to enforce one of the timelines by using it on Geiz or Sougo or both to make them fight? That I’d take. I just really want this to be ‘started out as enemies and became friends’? Like w/ Spectre.
Oh, my, I do like his Henshin, though...
Also, the freaking Ride Watch does sound confused, that’s hilarious.
The beret still looks weird, though.
Also I... I do still like the suit. I like it. I mean, I like it in a different way than I love Cross-Z and Geiz’s suit (and get me started on the beauty of RabbitDragon in Be The One!), but... I love it. I love goofy suits. I love glowy. I love the neon. I love it. Just don’t think I love the person inside of it atm.
Well, that’s a justification for why everyone just stands and watched the tertiary fight. They’re all too shocked to do anything.
I love how Tsukuyomi’s like ‘O.o Woz transformed!’ while standing next to Woz.
That’s cheating, you.... Glow stick!
Oh, I do like this suit actor, though. Love the motion style.
One the other hand, though. This is proof the future can change. So they could decide to try changing it more.
Also kinda hope Geiz is just like ‘Well, he didn’t say I had to do it right now...’
Seriously, though, that’s a very evil laugh. It’s making me uncomfortable. Keisuke, why are you good at your job?
Preview: Please, Toei, don’t go where I am slightly afraid you will go w/ this. You did right by me before, do it again. I mean, Geiz didn’t sound to happy about New Woz, there? And it played over a clip of his looking annoyed? So.. Hope? Maybe New Woz is what ends up driving the squad to be come a squad? Though... are they just gonna pop into the future to get Kinji, like... How are we  doing this? Woz is probably gonna use this to jump in and be a nasty manipulative jerk face again, hope he grows out of that. But despite that, in terms of something like trust, I prefer him to New Woz. Call me crazy, that just... Unnerves me. And think he’s meant to?
Whelp, that’s all. Internet pizza for anyone who read all that nonsense.
I am very tired now, so I’m gonna go to bed, but that was interesting. Hope this ends up bringing my kids together even more instead of pushing them apart, though can’t be sure from the preview. Well see...
But also, I know Shocker is on the table, but anyone remember Foundation X? What if they got involved somehow? Would it be the first time those two worked together? I feel like no, but I could easily be wrong, my memory of Shocker’s extensive history isn’t great. -_-;
Until then, a good night.

How would you have written Bonkai if you had the chance ?
So I’ve always been a fan of Dark Bonkai, so if I were to write them I would forgo the redemption arc completely. I wasn’t a fan of it when it aired and even though now I’ve warmed up to it more now it’s still not how I would have wanted Bonkai to go because as I said in a different post the only way I see that romance working out is as generic fluff which is just not my jam.
This first thing I would have done is after she sends Damon back is have Bonnie and Kai stuck together longer, not only because there needed to be more pay off from that but also because sending Kai back as quickly as they do wasted a great opportunity with both characters because once he’s back in the real world his storylines don’t fall flat but they aren’t as great especially when he ends up missing for an unusual amount of episodes–he’s the main villain of the season, he really shouldn’t have been missing from any episodes. So I wouldn’t have him figure out where Jo stashed her magic, but I would still have him take her to Portland for Thanksgiving because A) great development and B) it sets up or the one other thing I would have kept which is Bonnie’s breakdown because it’s such a well done scene.
From there I would have them do more cat and mouse games which would start with her killing Kai (who would come back) and running as far as possible taking his pager with her just to piss him of because he told her not to touch it. Then I would have the Delena failed Bonnie rescue mission (with a few things tweaked since Kai would still be in the PW, I’d just have the spell run out of time because they were doddling which is essentially what happened in canon) which literally ends up breaking her spirit. As much as I hate Bonnie being in pain, I love that scene because it is so well done and not just because of Kat’s acting, which is on point, but because for the first time ever the narrative actually cares about the pain Bonnie’s in, focuses on the pain she’s in, and doesn’t force her to be “strong”.
Just look at Damon’s reaction when he realizes what’s going to happen to Bonnie. There reason I always preferred Damon with Bonnie and that’s because his reactions seem a lot more genuine which is mostly Ian because his reactions to Kat are a lot more genuine and that scene you could feel that Damon felt sadness for Bonnie, and what makes that scene so much better is that instead of only focusing on his sadness for her it cuts to her, and her pain, and in that moment she’s not infallible, she’s not the strong witch who can endure anything and everything, she’s broken and it’s devastating and it’s something we really didn’t get to see with her even when she literally died and had to see her own dead body.
It’s always an easy scene to point out but it’s because it’s so atrocious is when Abby gets turned, you don’t even see Bonnie except for a glimpse after (I’m pretty sure they didn’t even have her on set for that shooting day), instead you have Caroline speak for her and then the show focuses on Elena’s pain from the incident which isn’t even empathy for Bonnie but rather her own pain because Bonnie won’t talk to her, which as I keep saying in my Tyler meta’s, neither of those are comparable experiences and prioritizing her pain over Bonnie’s was the breaking point for most Bonnie fans. So after years of getting things like that I was actually quite proud of that scene.
But back to Bonkai, I wouldn’t just keep that there because I like the scene but also because it signifies a breaking point which would be great in the development of Bonkai especially in a moment she feels most alone because she wouldn’t be completely alone, she would have Kai. If Bamon and Benzo taught me anything it’s that if she’s isolated alone with you long enough you will get her undying loyalty no matter what you’ve done and that’s something that’s actually in character because she has abandonment issues, or at least she should with her mother leaving her, her dad barely home, and then the only consistent family member she had, Grams, died. It explains why she clings on to her friends so much, unfortunately the show has never had enough nuance to even try to use that as a reason for why she keeps sacrificing herself, they just make it he obligation.
From there she’d be willing to do anything to get out but without magic they don’t know how to leave so they spend more time together. Bonnie would be depressed, for obvious reasons, and I would have Kai trying to cheer her up because he likes her plucky and it’s not much fun seeing her like that. Then I would basically have most if not all the events from Metamorphosis happen right down to her killing herself and realizing no one can die in the PW not even her. They would have kinda a mentorship which involves them killing each other over and over (again events in Metamorphosis) which would cheer her up in a dark twisted way which would lead to a lot of dark twisted sex (not in the fic),
Eventually Bonnie would remember Qetsiyah’s rock because the fact that the rescue mission was literally remind Bonnie of what she already knew was ridiculous and something she could have figured out on her own. And then they get out disregarding Jo’s knife because another ridiculous thing, not that she hid it there, but because it continued to be hidden there after 18 years like “find a better hiding spot.”
Kai would continue his quest to be Gemini leader, and Bonnie, now that she’s out and knows him a lot better would be conflicted with letting him kill his entire coven or leaving it alone–her conflicted feelings would effect him because he’s got the girl and doesn’t want to lose her but instead of trying to be better like we’ve seen oh so many times (Damon, Klaus, to a degree Katherine with Elijah) he tries to get he on his side using truths about her “friends” which is honesty something  think should have happened in season 4 with Shane because of how quickly he gets her trust, but let’s not lament on that. Eventually her new found attitude of looking out for herself actually takes and she lets him because unless she or the world is in danger of imploding she’s staying out of it.
After that I would actually have him merge with Liv. I’m sorry for people who liked Liv, but she was kinda of annoying and the writers clearly were trying to replace Bonnie with her, however that’s not the reason I would have her die in the merge. The reason I would have her die is because she was kind always meant to. She knew she was less likely to survive the merge with Luke and she was the most afraid to die and in the series finale she does accept her fate, but I would have much rather it been here during the merge. It would have been brave and lot more powerful because Luke wasn’t as afraid he just went with the flow. Also it would stop TVD’s tendency to kill all of their gay characters, in terms of which twin had more potential to add to the show it was easily Luke, again sorry for people who liked Liv, she was kinda like Caroline in that she was on of many witches (which was a new(ish) concept since it fell on Bonnie to be the sole witch without any family, but as I said they were clearly priming her to replace Bonnie).
Then I don’t know how I would develop it but basically it would end with Bonkai being king and queen of the Gemini combining their power to be the most powerful couple ever, but after Bonnie does a lot of traveling because that was something she needed, she needed to get out and make her own path. And after Kai learned to deal with feelings a bit more, I guess I would have him redeemed(ish) (but leaving Damon and Elena out of it because again why would he give a single fuck about them?) because that’s honestly the only natural ending, but I would want that redemption to be an individual process (which it kind was in canon but it still had people telling him to do x and people will forgive him and him doing x but unlike Damon x doesn’t work), so that would all be happening while she’s off traveling which she does almost immediately after she gets back and doesn’t bother telling any of the MFG she’s back, they only find out through Kai.
If given a chance this is how I would have written Bonkai, basically having their development in the season coincide together. Also this is mostly a rewrite of season 6 but to write Bonkai (Bonnie) that’s necessary.

Seeing double, part 2
@worldoftherandom this did not want to get written for some reason. But I persevered. And kicked the crap out of it with no shoes on. XD
Part 1
All the Loki/Heckyl stuff
The newcomer has a tattoo.
Tony has no idea why this fact in particular stands out as he picks himself up off the ground from where Evil Twin Heckyl’s attack has thrown him. A blue curl of tattoo, just below his ear, which seems to glow, and if that isn’t evidence of some kind of Star Trek Mirror Universe shit going on here, Tony doesn’t know what is. Jesus, that had hurt. Taken by surprise and now bruising from the impact, despite the suit. He needs to work on the cushioning inside this thing, especially around the hips. Ouch. He picks himself up and takes stock.
His Heckyl (and damn if Tony thought he’d ever use that kind of possessive terminology on the man, but there you go, it’s not every day you have to differentiate between two versions of the same idiot) is looking dumbstruck and increasingly (oh shit) frightened. Terrific. Tony had hoped that his huge alien ego and vanity would be so piqued by the sight of someone wearing his face that he’d go all-out crazyperson on the intruder. Instead, he seems to have a Heckyl with a nasty case of the ‘Nam flashbacks on his hands, and that’s nowhere near as useful or fun. Also, it makes Heckyl vulnerable, and vulnerable team members need to be protected at all costs. Because although Steve has the official Captain title, Tony has the unofficial Dad title. Nobody picks on the kids.
“Okay,” he says, facing the advancing Tattooed Bad Guy with a renewed sense of annoyed purpose. “Okay. You wanna play, Mister Hyde? Let’s play. Don’t think having that face is gonna make me go easy on you. I’ve wanted to slap Goggles over there many times for being a smug little dick, you’re just offering me a golden opportunity to act out my revenge fantasies that won’t get me beaten up by his godly boyfriend.”
For some reason this little speech makes the invading Heckyl blink, and pause, and that gives Tony the in to blast him with the repulsors. Score. Knocks him off his feet, but holy crap if he isn’t back up and still coming within seconds. What the fuck do they make these bastards out of, vibranium?
The elevator doors ping again, and Bruce frowns his way out into the sunshine. It takes him a moment to drink the scene in: Tony and Heckyl locked in deadly mortal combat, streams of energy clashing and shrieking as they attempt to overpower each other. Oh boy. The Clash of the Titan Egos. This probably wasn’t wholly unexpected. Bruce wonders vaguely who started trying to kill whom first - and then slightly off to the side, he notices another Heckyl, this one’s expression being what Bruce can only describe as frozen, horrified embarrassment. He looks back at the fight. Yup. Definitely one Heckyl here, one Heckyl there. And just over there - another damn interdimensional portal.
Oh. Oh, okay. Right. So, this is...this is fine. Just another typical day, really. Bruce resists the urge to simply turn around and go back downstairs: instead he heaves a sigh, and approaches the shell-shocked-looking Heckyl carefully. He’s pretty sure this is the one he knows: the one who got blackout drunk on his bed that one time, the one who punched Clint for a danish.  For one thing, he’s pretty sure evil dimension-hopping invaders don’t come dressed in their own “I Heart NY” shirts.
“Hey,” he says. “Heckyl.“ When this doesn’t immediately elicit a response, he moves to more drastic measures. “Bro. You okay? What’s going on?”
Heckyl comes out of it enough to give him an awed, haunted look.
“That’s me,” he says, in a whisper. “I can see him, all of him, what’s coiled up inside. He’s intact.”
Something about his choice of the word intact gets through to Bruce. If their Heckyl counts as partly neutered, domesticated in terms of his attitude, adjusted moral compass and core power, then a fully intact Heckyl is probably something they should really be wary of. It also serves as an uncomfortable reminder that, for better or for worse, their Heckyl counts himself as broken. In more ways than one.
“Okay, so that’s you.” Heckyl nods in response, miserably. “A you from the past, or an alternate universe you kind of deal?” Heckyl shrugs, as if this is really not the thing he’s focusing on right now. “Right,” says Bruce, slowly. “I’m guessing Old You isn’t as nice as New You, huh.”
Heckyl meets his eyes and holds his gaze, and the sheer depth of his unamusement is horrible. “Oh,” he says, bleakly. “I’m a complete bundle of joy compared to him.” He looks away briefly, before continuing: “We talked before. About monsters.”
Yes, they had. And there’s the evidence of that broken bit. Taking that monster out of this Heckyl had pushed him over the edge, left him with some...interesting...psychological quirks which Bruce tries not to think about too hard. The whole work-in-progress that is Heckyl on his somewhat haphazard redemption arc is still hitting far too close to home for him - and the Other Guy.
“That monster’s still in him,” Heckyl says. “He doesn’t remember anything. He doesn’t remember how to feel anything that isn’t rage, envy or desire to possess. He doesn’t know what I know about what happened to our planet.”
“You feel sorry for him,” says Bruce, because there’s an edge to the tone and Heckyl’s expression, and it’s obvious, really. Of course he feels sorry for him.
“I remember what being him was like,” is all Heckyl says. “I remember how good it felt to be him, but how empty. So much pleasure. So much purpose.” He tilts his head, ruefully, and his eyes are blank, and his tone comes out almost sing-song through an odd, creepy little smile. It makes the hairs on the back of Bruce’s neck stand up. “How...very...emp…ty.”
Bruce regards him dubiously for a moment, then:
“W-would you mind?” he asks. “If I, uh - “
And he makes a vague, punching gesture at the air.
“Not at all,” says Heckyl, coldly, although Bruce is pretty sure he won’t watch.
Tony absolutely isn’t getting the worst of it. Not at all. In any way. It’s not even remotely a relief to see the massive green mobile wall that is the Hulk come bellowing into the breach. Honest.
But like Evil Loki before him, Evil Heckyl doesn’t seem to fully appreciate what he’s up against, and goes full-on psycho killer at the big new target, chortling like a maniac because really, what’s more fun than a good afternoon’s massacre when you’re an insane alien bent on taking over the world. The Hulk doesn’t seem to like being hit by the lightning, but only in the way that most people don’t like wasps: they’re irritating, persistent and can sting a bit, but you can easily smack them aside. However, after putting up with several minutes of being fried with blue energy, the Hulk seems to have had enough.
And Evil Heckyl gets smacked. Boy, does he ever. The Hulk lunges in with a proper fish-wife’s backhand, full force, and Tony swears he can hear the impact of green hand on torso as loudly as if someone’s dropped a ten-ton weight. He follows up with a quick blast from the repulsor, for good measure.
Evil Heckyl goes down like a sack of potatoes, skidding backwards across the roof, and Tony bites back on his instinctive cheer, because he can see that their own Heckyl is looking the other way. Even to Tony, it strikes as bad form (outside of approved therapy) to throw a party for the defeat of your former self. And this time, Evil Heckyl stays down, evidently dazed all to fuck. A few smacks from the Hulk could take out Loki, after all - Heckyl’s tough, but he’s not Asgardian tough.
Hulk regards the fallen body at his feet with a triumphant curl of lip, then he glances over to where the other Heckyl is standing and doing everything he can (short of actually sticking his fingers in his ears) not to know what’s happening. A big green finger taps him gently on the shoulder to make him turn.
“Got your back,” the Hulk rumbles. “Stupid Spice Boy.”
Heckyl looks up - and up - at the big green man, and smiles: a broader version of that creepy-as-fuck little smile he’d been wearing earlier. He cranes his neck so that he can take a good long look at his other self lying smashed into the ground. He bends down, slowly and deliberately, and takes off first one green sock, then the other, folding them carefully and setting them to one side. Then, without a single ounce of warning, he charges straight at his fallen other self (who is groaning, starting to come around) and starts kicking the crap out of him, barefoot, while screaming a stream of abuse, some of which doesn’t seem to be in any language common to Earth.
Tony flips up the faceplate, looks at the Hulk: the Hulk looks at Tony. The Hulk shrugs, and ambles off towards the elevator.
“Well, you’re no help,” Tony says. “JARVIS? Get Loki on the line. Feel like we‘re gonna need him. And make the usual order from Cinnabon. But double it.“
And he strolls over in unhurried fashion to drag his Heckyl off the other one by the scruff of the neck. Gotta be a responsible dad, after all, and break the kids up when they’re trying to murder each other.

Act 1/Scene 1
[At Lauvre Museum in Icarunia City. In 1982, Arc and Azzy are about to commit the biggest and most important project. They have been planning to steal the most expensive and famous painting in the City for many years. Azzy uses her manipulation abilities to instantly alter reality by telling a lie to the guards. Arc uses his telekinesis abilities allowing him to influence a physical system without physical interaction.]
Arc
Remember, execute the plan. Get what we need and leave. Okay?
Azzy
Yes brother, I was listening.
[They walk towards the entrance in their matching black suits.]
[Azzy uses her abilities to make the guards do whatever she desires.]
Arc
Good job sissy. Hurry before anyone sees us.
Azzy
Hmm… I have to admit. That guy was really cute.
Arc
Stop fooling around Azzy, focus.
Azzy
Right-right, so where do we begin?
Arc
The painting is upstairs.
[They placed every dazzling jewelry they could find in the bag.]
Azzy
Hey, did you hear that?
Arc
Hear what?
Azzy
Nothing… I-I must be hearing things.
Arc
Hurry! Place the painting in the bag.
Azzy
Hey! Look! We should get that too. It’s really pretty.
Arc
No, we’re only here for the painting.
Azzy
B-but brother. Please!
Arc
Fine, but get it quick.
[Azzy uses her teleportation abilities to go beyond the line.]
Azzy
Got it! Let’s go.
[but before they could teleport out of the museum, there was a loud voice.]
[loud voice.]
Eliza
Stop!!!
Azzy
uh-oh…guess someone saw us already. [she whispers.]
[Arc stares at Azzy with annoyance.]
Eliza
Take another step and I’ll make sure the alarms comes on. Believe me, that would be a big problem for you two.
Arc
What do you want?
Eliza
Oh, that was quick. You’re not even going to ask my name? How rude, Arc.
Arc
How do you know my name?
Eliza
My name is Eliza Smoak, daughter of Noah Smoak. The famous supervillain of Icarunia City, the calculator, known for his cyberpath abilities.
Azzy
And… you’re telling us this because?
Eliza
I want to join your team. You see, I hate my father for abandoning my mother and I to pursue his crimes. I want to prove him that I am better than him.
Azzy
Oh, well you see, we are not recruiting so… bye.
Eliza
Wait! I have footages and other evidences to prove that your both guilty of multiple crimes. I could get you arrested, anytime. It’s your choice.
Azzy
We really don’t believe you. Right brother?
[Arc looks at Azzy.]
Azzy
Right???
Arc
We could really use her help Azzy. She might be useful. Can you hack the dark web?
Eliza
I most certainly can. I’m an expert in many areas.
Arc
Let’s go. Your coming with us.
Azzy
B-but why?!
Arc
Let’s go Azzy!
[Azzy groans and teleports out of the museum to their hidden lair.]
Azzy
Why did you bring her here!? You’re exposing us! You’re making a terrible mistake Arc!
Arc
Calm down Azzy.
Azzy
For the record Eliza, I don’t like you and I never will.
Eliza
I’m not forcing any of you to like me or to accept me into this team. But believe me, you will need my help.
Azzy
Are you crazy?! You’re blackmailing us?!  I can’t believe this. This is ridiculous.
Arc
Why do we need your help?
Eliza
My father is planning something against the city. He wants to rule the city, to take over everything.
Azzy
Again, and this is our concern because?!
Arc
For the record... We are just thieves; we don’t save the world.
Eliza
I know, but I need your help too. I can’t let my father rule this hell hole. With your abilities combined with my capabilities, we would be unstoppable. I could help you steal whatever you desire, and you could help me stop my father. Either way, it’s a win-win situation.
Azzy
Oh please, we?!
Eliza
Yes. Will you please help me stop him? Arc?
Arc
Fine, but you have to follow our rules.
Azzy
W-what?! Are you forgetting?! We are the bad guys. We don’t do “good”!
Arc
Trust me.
Azzy
Whatever brother.
[Eliza smiles at Arc.]
 Act 2/Scene 2
[A couple of months after, Eliza and Arc were getting really close. Azzy was extremely jealous because she was used to having her brother’s attention all to herself. Eliza was getting ready for the next team project.]
Arc
Do you need help with that?
Eliza
oh, um… I’m fine. Thank you. [She smiles.]
Arc
No, I insist. Let me carry that for you.
Eliza
oh, um… Thank you.
[pause.]
[awkward silence.]
Eliza
So, Azzy still doesn’t like me huh?
Arc
Apparently, yea… she thinks you’re a threat. She’s just not used to having other people around.
Eliza
I can see that.
Arc
You mentioned your mother when we first met. Where is she?
Eliza
Well, she died. Years after my father left us. She got really sick. Unfortunately, I was the only child and… I didn’t have anyone else.
Arc
I’m sorry.
Eliza
Oh-no, it’s fine. I got over it.
Arc
I’m really glad I met you… umm I mean… what I meant was I’m glad you joined the team. [He stutters.]
Eliza
oh ha-ha, you’re really funny… and cute. [she chuckles.]
Arc
What?
Eliza
Huh? Oh nothing.
[she looks at him, and smiles.]
Arc Eliza, you have beautiful eyes.
Eliza
Thank you.
[He firmly pulled her body against his and he brushed her lips with his. Staring into her eyes, he lightly slid his tongue across her bottom lip, she drew deep, staggered breath in response to the wave of heat she felt flushing through her. Arc smiled at her. Then, he softly kissed her, he lightly swept his tongue between her lips, pressing his warm, soft lips to hers.]
[Azzy walks in.]
Azzy: W-what is going on here?!
[Azzy dashes out, tears began to fall.]
Arc
Wait! Azzy!
Eliza
I’m sorry…
Arc
Wait here.
[Arc goes after Azzy.]
Arc
I’m sorry.
[Arc hugs Azzy.]
[Azzy pushes him away.]
Azzy
How could do this brother? You and I were meant to die together.
Arc
I don’t know what to say.
Azzy
Do you love her?!
Arc
W-what?
Azzy
I said, do you love her?!
Arc
I do…
Azzy
Do you want to be with her?!
Arc
What do you mean?
Azzy
Now I know.
[Azzy teleports out of the room.]
[Arc sighs.]
 Act 3/Scene 3
[Before going to their next mission, Arc and Azzy gets into a heated argument because Azzy couldn’t get over the fact that she is no longer the only women in his life. She begins to show attitude towards Arc, and Arc begins to get annoyed with her attitude. Eliza and Arc are still deeply in love and not even Azzy could change that.]
Arc
Are you ready Eliza?
Eliza
Yes honey, this is probably… um…. [counts with her finger.] our 5th mission? I know the drill.
Arc
Right. You look beautiful. [kisses Eliza on the forehead.]
Azzy
There goes the love birds. Disgusting. [she whispers.]
Arc
What the hell is wrong with you Azzy?! You’ve been acting like spoiled brat ever since…
Azzy
Ever since what? Huh? What’s wrong with me? Really? Have you forgotten?! We were supposed to be duos, Arc. Not a triad. We’ve been through hell together, and just like that. [snaps fingers.] Eliza comes and everything changes. She won’t do good to us! [Azzy turns to Eliza.] You! You did this to us! [back to Arc.] And you were stupid enough to believe this demon. You both are selfish! Selfish! [cries furiously.]
Arc
I can’t believe you; this issue was a year ago! You still can’t accept her. Haven’t you gotten over it yet? I love Eliza, Azzy. Why can’t you just accept reality?
Azzy
Easy for you to say. You were supposed to be my twin. You were supposed to have my back no matter what, Arc. You were supposed to protect me. You made that promise when we were younger. Remember? [wipes tears and looks fiercely at Arc.]
Arc
Until now, this is still about you? What about my happiness? Why can’t you just be happy for me?
Azzy
When the times comes and everything doesn’t go according plan, and I turn out to be right about her. Don’t come begging for forgiveness. Because I can’t give you one.
[Azzy walks away and slams the door.]
Arc
Right, go ahead and walk away again. That’s what your good at!
Eliza
C’mon let’s go.
Arc
Don’t let her bother you okay? What matters is that I love you.
Eliza
I know… I love you too. I’m sorry… for everything.
Arc
You have nothing to be sorry about.
Eliza
Yea… I hope so… [shows a worried face.]
 Act 4/Scene 4
[Arc and Azzy were caught by A.R.G.U.S also known as Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans. Turns out Eliza was working for them; she was undercover on a mission to catch Azzy and Arc. Apparently, everything was planned out.]
[A man places power-dampening cuffs refraining them from using their abilities.]
Arc
W-what is the meaning of this Eliza?!
Eliza
I’m sorry, Arc. I-I’m sorry.
Azzy
Sorry your face.
[gives Arc a disappointed look.]
Arc
I’m sorry… this is my fault. [he whispers.]
[Arc looks down.]
Azzy
Yea… it actually is. This is all your fault. Everything was perfect before Eliza came and you let her manipulate you. Before you welcomed her into our team. This is on you and I can never forgive you for this. You’re a fool… brother.
Azzy
and you! [she shouts.] When I get out, I’ll come for you. I swear, I will kill you.
[Arc displays deep regret.]
Man
C’mon let’s go big guy.
 Act 5/Scene 5
[On June 8, 1952, two twins were born. Azzy was born with beautiful hazel eyes, just like her mother. Arc had beautiful ocean eyes, just like his father. As they grew older, they were trained to become strong. To become brave and fearless. Every day, they would train and train with their father. While, their mother would watch over them. Little do they know; they were being trained to become professional criminals. ]
Father
Is that all you’ve got boy? C’MON SHOW ME WHAT YOU’VE GOT!
Arc
I can’t dad.
[His father pushes him against the ground.]
Father
What did you say?! No one, in this family is allowed to give up. No one.
[Arc groans in pain. ]
[He slowly gets back up.]
Father
Now fight me boy, fight me.
[Arc hits his dad with his bamboo stick.]
Father
Nice one! I’m proud of you boy. Remember, you are the man. You must protect your sister at all cost. No matter what. If something bad happens to us, do whatever it takes to keep her safe. You must strive for the best. Go beyond your limits. Do not let anyone stop you from reaching your goal. No one.
Father
Now from the top!
[Trains.]
Act 6/Scene 6
[Father comes home drunk.]
Father
Azzy!!! GET ME A GLASS OF WATER!
Azzy
Coming father.
Father
What is this?! This isn’t cold water. How dare you?!
[He slaps Azzy.]
Mother
Luther! What is going on here?! Why did you slap our daughter?!
Father
What did you say?! Did you just raise your tone on me?! How dare you?!
[Strangles his wife.]
[Azzy cries out loud.]
Arc
Dad! What are you doing?! Y-you are hurting mom! Please stop!
[Pushes Arc.]
Arc
Dad, please, she can’t breathe. Please show her sympathy. I beg you.
[His father let’s go.]
Arc
Mom! Are you okay?!
Mother
Yes honey. Mother’s okay. Go to your room okay. I’ll take care of this.
Arc
B-but mom…
Mother
Go! Take your sister with you. Everything’s going to be okay.
[Arc takes Azzy to their room.]
 Act 7/Scene 7
[Every day for 10 years it happened again and again. Their father would constantly get drunk and would beat his wife up. She suffered the same violence over and over again. Until one day, Arc found his mother hanging from a rope. She couldn’t take the violence anymore. She had lost hope. One day, Arc decided that It wasn’t safe for him and Azzy. So, they decided to run away. Far away from their father. With the advantage of having extraordinary abilities, they used this opportunity to steal from people. At first, it was just food. Then, money. Then, jewelries and this happened every day for 10 years.]
[In a high-tech prison cell.]
Arc
I wonder what dad would say if he was here. He would probably tell me how weak and stupid I am.
[Azzy doesn’t response.]
Arc
Are you awake?... I’m really sorry…
Arc
I know you can hear me Azzy…
Arc
I know I wasn’t the best brother to you. I know I was selfish for choosing my happiness without considering yours…
[Azzy opens her eyes.]
Arc
I know that I hurt you very badly. But believe me, I don’t want to do so. It was my greatest fault. I want to protect you from all bad things. But Instead I led us to this…
[sighs.]
Arc
You are my one and only lovely sister. I love you more than anything. I wish you understand. I am not a perfect brother; I too make mistakes.
Azzy
You’re so dramatic.
Arc
Do you forgive me?
Azzy
hmm… I’ll think about it, you fool.
Arc
I’ll give you all the time you need.
Act 8/Scene 8
[Eliza comes to visit Arc to apologize about the betrayal and lies she told. Eliza confesses that she really did love Arc and all of it was true. Arc later discovers that A.R.G.U.S is creating a cure to remove all extraordinary abilities. Eliza wants Arc to take the cure so that they’ll both be together and free to live a life without abilities.]
[Eliza visits Arc in his cell.]
Arc
What are you doing here?
Eliza
Arc, I’m sorry. I had to do it.
Arc
You fooled me, you made me believe that you loved me. You made me turn against my sister. You expect to forgive you?
Eliza
I know an-and I’m sorry. Arc, I really did love you. I didn’t expect myself to. But everything was real, I promise.
Arc
Stop lying to me.
Eliza
I’m telling the truth. I will be waiting for you. I will be with you throughout the process. I will never leave your side. Please, help me prove how sincere I am.
Arc
What process?!
Eliza
A.R.G.U.S is creating a cure for all extraordinary humans. This cure will help you turn into a normal person Arc. I hope you will take it. Please.
Arc
What?! Now, I’m a lab rat. Amazing. What else do I not know?!
Eliza
That’s all Arc. Please think about it. This place will help you to become a better person. One’s everything is over; we can be together again. Please Arc, think about it.
[Eliza kisses his forehead and walks away.]
Act 9/Scene 9
[On December 15, 2002, the twins were released from prison. Apparently within those 20 years of imprisonment. A.R.G.U.S succeeded in experimenting the cure that would remove abilities from a being by making them normal human beings. For 20 years, Eliza constantly visits Arc. Apparently, they still love each other. Arc took the cure, however, Azzy decided not to.]
Azzy
So… [pause.] I guess this is the end for us.
Arc
Where will you be going?
Azzy
I will go as far away as possible. Far away from you.
Arc
I’m really sorry sis. I really am.
Azzy
[nod.] I know you are.
Arc
So, um… I’ll be moving in with Eliza…
Azzy
Guess love always wins. Does it?
Arc
I guess so…[pause.] I hope you’re going to be fine Azzy.
Azzy
I hope so too. I will start over again. It’s never too late to become happy, right?
Arc
I hope you find that happiness. I know I have.
Azzy
I’m glad you have.
[Eliza walks towards Azzy.]
Eliza
Hey… [soft smile.]
Azzy
Hi…
Eliza
Um… I never got the chance to apologize… and I’m sorry…
Azzy
[sighs.] Forget about it. Don’t worry. We’re good. I wish you both a happy life. It’s never too late to forgive, to grow and to heal.
Eliza
Thank you.
Azzy
So… [pause.] I guess this is it… goodbye, brother. [soft smile.]
Arc
goodbye.
[the twins hug.]
[Arc kisses Azzy on the forehead.]
Arc
[sighs.] I will miss you sis. [whispers.]
Azzy
I know you will, brother. [soft smile.]
