Future Trunks' SSJ Transformation is even better than you think, and here's why
So I already did this like, yesterday, but I ended up rewriting it for a discord server and believe it's better this way... So here's a repost :')
So, of course, the scene I'm referencing is Trunks' SSJ transformation against Freeza; watch it before reading, or better, watch it -as- you read, and pause with the frames I posted under the "read more" break.
First, gotta keep in mind the only SSJ transformation we saw this far was Goku's first one, on Namek, and it was a flicking back and forth for a little while until it settled (and actually changed his speech from "ora" to "ore", which blew Gohan's mind as he didn't really recognize that guy as his dad). You already know why/how Goku transformed so I'll skip that. What's important is that Trunks does it by choice and in total control, unlike Goku, and the animation pacing takes its sweet time to show it.
So, first we have confident, slow aura building (after announcing that he too was a SSJ). Again, choice, control, and defiance (gosh I wish he retained any of those in the rest of the saga)
Tumblr media
The aura building continues with a classic scream and hair flying up, nothing new here, but it's starting to worry Freeza and Cold who.. stare (because we do do that a lot). Right as the bodies fly off and the ground shakes, the gang reacts; it's like on Namek, it's Goku's ki. And this is when the first change happens: Pupils are gone, but eye color did not change.
Tumblr media
And then the SSJ aura sounds kick in the moment he takes the exact same face/smile as the first shot I posted. The timing and fading of Battle Point Unlimited is also satisfying (like seriously, sound design??), as it strikes lower chords at the same time as the aura sounds kick in. And yet, only the aura and the no-pupils are there to start the Goku-PTSD flashback on Freeza.
Tumblr media
.By the time Freeza comes out of his PTSD, however, Trunks' eye color changed to the SSJ green. And when the aura (and hair) starts to glow gold (and Battle Point hits its hype moment, again, sound design), this is when Freeza starts to move back and gets looked at by Cold (whose point of view we're following, overall)
Tumblr media
Since it's Cold's point of view we follow, when he looks back at Trunks he says "so this is a SSJ", and this is when the transformation is complete: hair settles, eyebrows changed color, and proper golden firey aura.
Tumblr media
And it's after THIS that Freeza comments "it's the same eyes!". He couldn't speak before, but if you scroll back up, you'll notice that Freeza reacted with fear/shock right as the pupils disappeared, before even they turned green.
And Trunks notices it and actually comments on it. He knows Freeza is seeing Goku in him. And he's enjoying it. Look at this smug bastard.
Tumblr media
So what have we learnt today?
- Freeza remembers people's eyes, more than hair, color, or build. As a good martial artist, it's important to look at your opponent in the eye (it helps predict movements, as people tend to look where they're going to strike). Even if the eye-color and form are the same, the emotion between Goku and Trunks is different (at least compared to the Flashbacks shown; Goku's full of pity during the flashback, while Trunks' are colder)
- The animators and sound designers really worked together for peak timing. (yes yes, I know, stolen, copyrights, etc).
- The switch between serious/angry and confident/smiling as different stages of the build up is super interesting and say a lot about Trunks' duality (get shit done, take no shit ; being Vegeta's kid and finally be able to actually win a fight).
- If each episode of Dragon Ball (especially Z) had had that much attention to detail, and that much money (because "new character introduced" episodes always get extra money and talent), the series would have many more scene-by-scene analysis
- Trunks got such a cool introduction, and such a satisfying prologue, but the middle (even with the Grade 3 fiasco) is absolutely sad.
And on a honorifics/pronouns note, Trunks uses Boku about himself (revealing his young age), but he uses the derogatory, you-are-beneath-me Omae to address Freeza (he does talk to Cold but he doesn't -address- him, just refuses his offer and tell him it's not just the sword :') )
(chronologically speaking, Trunks switches to Ore when coming back after the three year skip, but weirdly enough, pre-time-travel 17Yo Trunks in the TV special already uses Ore, so inconsistencies huzzah).

adventure time wizard city liveblog
 well here we go
my last adventure time liveblog, i havent actually done one of these in MANY years... probably not since 2014
this takes place at the same time as obsidian?
DID-- DID CHOOSE GOOSE JUST DIE
DID BUFO JUST KILL CHOOSE GOOSE
yeah i know that’s bufo, they only made it enormously obvious, tsk tsk
@spaceacepearl joked about us seeing choose goose get sent to hell but i diDNT EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN
Tumblr media
This music is i assume by one of the many musical artists Adam Muto listed on twitter, it rocks. It’s not as hardcore as Obsidian’s intro, but it’s suitably chill for the scene.
“get offa my bus kid”
Tumblr media
Those wizards in the left and far right groups appear to be new!
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD--
Tumblr media
HELP?????? NEW PROFILE PIC TIME
HAHAHAHAH
THE MUSICAL CON DID ME GOOD, I DID REALLY LOUD AUDIBLE LAUGHTER
Tumblr media
i bet hanna and co had fun making these signs
my favourite is the cat with “FAMILIARS HAVE RIGHTS”
cadorka..... wow
Tumblr media
We’re not even four minutes into the ep and peppermint butler has already killed someone in front of a large group of witnesses
“this smells of DARK MAGIC” “yall kids know thats illegal right” peps watches the other kids nod before later joining in, LOL
i cant believe pep started the great gum wars and got killed by golb
Tumblr media
SOMEONE has been playing Overwatch...
i-- i still cant believe choose goose is fucking dead
how long was he stuck in hell for, or was that recent to together again after new death showed up
i have to admit im not a big fan of spader, too perfect, and not in that funny way either. i hope they give him some characteristics that make him stand out.
Tumblr media
im getting flashbacks to OK KO and Owl House here...
Cadebra using music is a reference to Abracadaniel’s love of interpretetive dance in Play Date.
“they only laugh because youre different” “i know” “SO STOP BEING DIFFERENT” oh my god it’s like talking to my own parents cadebra is actually... a LOT like me, less in her hyperactivity but more in her nonchalant enthusiasm and almost acceptance of the inevitable bullying because it means more time in people’s consciousness
ahhh - it’s quietly revealed here that she is responsible and a skilled magician, she is just bored of magic! i like that she parents abracadaniel instead of being downtrodden by his ramblings.
Tumblr media
PEP NO--- oh i see the problem, he hasn’t got his Bug Milk... sorry Martin Olsen fans, no Hunson today. At least we get one more Phil Face for the road!
Tumblr media
candy people in their natural habitat
Tumblr media
Ahhh that’s Doctor Calidoneus! The voice actor was at the recent Distant Lands panel alongside Pep and Blaine’s actors.
“pretty sure hes just trashcandy” - i like you, sassy antler lady
Tumblr media
the mystery of how he gets clothes
and once again spader is proving to be the most irritating distant lands character of the lot, there is no subversion here. where is the subversion?
Tumblr media
NANI
what is going on here? are pep and peppermint the same person or not? im sure they must be, but there is something going on here with peppermint butler’s soul being trapped in the body of his child self who hasn’t got the same memories.
OH, HYNDEN WALCH DID A NEW LINE yes this is what im here for, special over
peppermint butler cursed himself... of course he did - Shado was correct!!!
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHAT THE FUCK
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
ROCK STUDENT, BLESSED ROCK STUDENT, WAS THAT POOR GUY WHO LOOKS LIKE A JAWBREAKER
love the reference to astral plane, of course pep cant astrally project because cursed pep is still inside of him
Tumblr media
wow, blaine, wow
they have a crush
Tumblr media
LITTLE DUDE! COLE SANCHEZ!
Tumblr media
i love the dynamic between cadebra and abracadaniel, imo so far it’s the heart of the special. im not really gripped by peppermint butler’s school troubles. i imagine someone else probably will be but i want to run past that shit as far as possible.
Tumblr media
TRDGFYGHJH
WE
WE MADE  A PREDICTION THAT WAS JUST LIKE THIS
PEPPERMINT BUTLER GETTING TURNED INTO THE FOUR COMPONENTS OF PEPPER MINT BUTT LURE WAS IN THE WIZARD CITY PREDICTIONS ART DRAW THAT HASNT BEEN POSTED YET
ILL SHOW YOU WHEN NICK POSTS THE VIDEO and then ill tell you who made the prediction because i... think it was nick himself, insanity
Tumblr media
who plagiarized finn’s signature???
turns out pep really DID take over wizard city!!!!
Tumblr media
i love this band
Tumblr media
i understand your pain peps
you probably have a bit too much in common with your mother, and i imagine it isn’t easy being turned into a kid and not being able to do stuff that came so easy. you’re disappointing yourself! (he’s literally disappointing himself)
I’m less than halfway through the special, what the fuck. I wasn’t wrong when I said Wizard City had a lot on its plate. It’s noit that I’ve been particularly gripped up to this point, though to be fair I didn’t pause at all during the other specials barring Obsidian.
Tumblr media
that... that poor kid is still a rock
and then the preview happened and bufo casually revealed to the audience that, yes, he killed choose goose
i dont know whats happening with pep but it seems he needs to be exorcised of... pep. which is a shame. i hope they learn to coexist.
i have to say the background work in this special is really good! like, really damn good.
Tumblr media
WH
WHAT
DID SPADER JUST DIE
IS THIS WHY PEOPLE THINK PEPBUT KILLED HIM
Tumblr media
oh thats right - abracadaniel is cadebra’s uncle! this must be abracadniels sister. sorry, folks, he doesn’t fuck.
Tumblr media
Where are they? Is this anywhere near Wizard City? It’s an unpopulated prewar wasteland.
Tumblr media
THESE ARE JUST HUMANS
OF COURSE SHE WANTS TO PERFORM TO MILQUETOAST HUMANS
Tumblr media
my child
Tumblr media
is this an art style choice or did they get the people from that one studio to make this
Tumblr media
HANNA FINALLY GETS TO FULFIL HER DREAM OF INSERTING KANEDA INTO ADVENTURE TIME
the red jacket he wears and his head pill shape is a big kaneda reference actually, which i suppose makes sense considering he’s a rival to our protagonist, but it’s a bit on the nose
bufo killed one of his own students? but why????
“MY UNCLE’S A COP”
“no one likes a rat”
i actually really like blaine, though im confused. did their VA change halfway through the special?
Tumblr media
HOW NATURAL, NO WASTE, IT IS AN ENDLESS CHAIN
did doctor caledonius steal the trophy,,,?
Tumblr media
EVIL SNAIL EVIL SNAIL
Tumblr media
MONMSTER HUNJTER DISCOVERY NOISE, this time it’s a tetsucabra
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I HAVE QUESTIONS
god i wish this is what this special was about, i miss adventure time
these remind me of the comics with their art style :) i wonder who designed them? the one on the right with pb and pep, in particular, very comics-y.
Tumblr media
fdgfhgf because he’s like 500
“pep can be kind of a jerk but he wouldn’t kill anyone”
sorry, cadebra, i have news for you
is doctor calednoius the true villain? if bufo’s out of the picture, she MUST be,
Tumblr media
ANTS
Tumblr media
oh no, he might gbe stuck in wizard city :(
Tumblr media
HELP
Tumblr media
the writing on the wall...
Tumblr media
SPADER LITERALLY FUCKING DIED OH YM JESUS CHRIST
Tumblr media
PEPPERMINT BUTLER’S OWN CULT????
Tumblr media
THIS IS JUST OK KO NOW
okay im not surprised all the teachers at wizard city are cultists in worship of peps, maybe they killed spader and bufo because they bullied peps T_T
Tumblr media
wait no, they thought spader had the potential, but sadly not
Tumblr media
HE FUCKING KILLED HIMSELF
sorry, i was distracted by the pretty dope fight sequence and now the special is over????
Tumblr media
fucking jesse, hes probably at least partly responsible for the cult nonsense
Tumblr media
This credits art is by Maya Petersen!!!! Holy shit it’s adorable!
Tumblr media
LRETGFDRGTFGMHGFHFG
LEAF MAN
DO YOU THINK THEY PUT HIM IN RETROSPECTIVELY
DO YOU THINK MAYA PETERSEN DREW THIS AND ADAM PUT IT IN THE EP RETROSPECTIVELY
Tumblr media
HE LIVES
MAYBE THIS IS WHY CHOOSE GOOSE WENT TO HELL
okay, it’s over :)
first thoughts out of the way: not a big fan of this special. it’s like watching a completely different show. it’s not got the PZSHAHH of the normal wizard city stuff and there weren’t a lot of funny jokes or even hearty moments in the thing.
it suffers from a lack of invested character interactions, much like BMO did. there was not a single main cast member in the whole thing! and like i said before, much of peppermint butler’s character in the show is based on his very sweet relationship to his mother, princess bubblegum, so when they showed a single (hilarious) photo of them together it made me sad we didn’t get any scenes with them together. it would have STOLEN this episode. and they teased the hunson golf photo, and death!!! and jake appeared in a photo T_T last jake appearance.
it also suffers because Peppermint Butler is clearly not himself, imo he was way more entertaining in the Together Again special, where we seem him back to his “normal” self.
i dont think peps being a dark wizard was something to “kill off” exactly. i wonder what was going on there? was that actually peps, or was that a spirit he cursed himself with based on himself? we at least know in the future he does become a dark wizard again, and even princess :) this special didn’t answer those questions but lol.
THE GOOD STUFF, because yes, there was a lot of good stuff!
God, I’m with Aracle and Maya on this - I LOVE Cadebra and her relationship to Pep. I wish she was even in more of this - I would love to watch the adventures of Cadebra and Pepbut in their first year of school, like in the end credits.
That, imo, is where the heart of the special lay - Peppermint Butler’s attempts to impress himself, versus Cadebra’s self acceptance and desire to follow her dreams of being a goofy goober, no matter what other people thought of her.
It turned out that Cadebra is a responsible student and family member. I really liked that. Her scenes with Abracadaniel were, somehow, my favourite in the entire special!
I like that theres a lot of cool magic towards the end of this special, and a lot of HORRIFYING DEATH. It wouldn’t be adventure time if you didn’t randomly kill off child characters. Poor Spader, I hated you but damn, what a grim fate.
I like that Bufo and Caledonius had this crush/hatred thing going on, but they were part of the same cult in the end.
I didn’t like the giant peps scene at the end, the monster was extremely milquetoast compared to the madness we usually get in AT. Obsidian, for example, had the awesome Larvo design. Nemesis had some INSANE dark magic!!!!  I wish they drew more from that episode.
Considering how much Steve Little appears in this special, I do feel bad for Mace (little Peps). He said he would have really benefitted from coaching, but recieved none. He had to re-record his lines 3 times! Judging from his description of events, Wizard City was a hard time for him.
The wizard school did remind me, heavily, of both The Owl House and OK KO. Personally I was hoping AT would offer me something more insane, but I do love both of those shows, and I know Wizard City was on a really tight schedule.
I think they should have spent less time on the school bullying plot, and skipped straight to MURDER.
We did have a cold opening, not on par with Together Again’s at all, but damn!
I am wondering where I would put this in the watch list? I do think it should sit after Obsidian as the third special. The intro scene makes it clear this takes place at the same time as Obsidian!!!
Well, that was it, the last ep of AT for the next few years at least T_T
i think together again was the better finale, definitely. but wizard city feels pretty detached from AT for me, despite the familiar characters it tonally isn’t like the show other than the awesome brutal death scenes. I thought the last 11 minutes was easily the best in the special! Which, honestly, is how it should be, though I do wish it gripped me more. Maybe I’m just not the target audience for Wizard City? It feels like something I would find very compelling if I was a bit younger!

EXU 6: “The Gift Among the Green”
Hello everyone and welcome to my liveblogs for this week’s episode of Exandria Unlimited: “The Gift Among the Green.” I absolutely loved the worldbuilding that Aabria gave us in this episode, and some of the character moments--especially with Opal--were truly so emotional. I am both so ready and not ready at all for these final two episodes!
Tumblr media
- This cozy Matt look is really working for me, personally (plus Omar’s outfit is so cute!)
- Fy’ra Rai calling Dorian “little brother” is gonna get me every time isn’t it  😭
- DARIAX AND HIS 0 PERCEPTION CHECK IS SO ON BRAND.... it’s okay baby boy.... we’ve all been there....
- Dorian getting the crown again via his friends skinny dipping into an ancient civilization... EXU once again being peak D&D
- A PUPPY??? Googol my beloved! (Oh and now Googol has the scary crown... this went downhill so quickly oh my lord)
- Ruidus has been mentioned... I just got flashbacks to that hour long Exandrian moon theories video on Youtube.... give me the moons lore Matt and Aabria!
- YES DORIAN LORE DORIAN LORE
- Oooh, his real name is Bronte... I wonder what his last name is and why he refuses to say it? He must be some sort of nobility, right?  👀
- Orym admitting to checking out Dariax during the skinny dipping LMAOOO Liam’s characters will just always gravitate towards Matt’s magic men
- FEARNE’S PARENTS LEFT HER 50 YEARS AGO?? So she has spent almost half her life without them... oh my love 😭
- Dariax LIED to the group and about Tharla Starr too, he is so precious
- “I’ve never done anything without Ted” :((( Love them
- Dariax saying to the Observer “there’s been a lot of people in my head recently” reminds me of one of my favorite Yasha lines, “There’s been a lot of people in my head and I don’t want to give them you” and now I’m emo again
- “That’s called... branding” I mean, Dariax is not wrong LMAO Dorian has one of those names where you just want to say the first name and last name together
- HUH? Who/what did Opal see in the mirror? At first I thought maybe Ted, but Ted would look like Opal (ie: not blue eyes) right? Curiouser and curiouser....
- Oh, she saw her mother.... baby girl... Opal is making me sad today, Aimee has done such an incredible job with this character 😭
- FY’RA KAI IS ALIVE???
- Orym got a seed! I wonder what sort of seed! (Or maybe they said and I missed it...)
- That group Perception check was..... rough
- HUH??? Someone got Opal with a dart, but they are in the ancient city so did someone sneak into the city or is there someone after her that is a resident of this place?
- LIAM SAYING CALEB INSTEAD OF ORYM I MISS HIM ALREADY TOO  😭 😭
- A chase scene?! Let’s gooooo
- This derailing into a conversation about gender and sex in the animal kingdom is so valid of them dfgdhjkfl
- Wait, I didn’t know Word of Radiance was a 5e spell.... any Stormlight Archive fans here who know exactly what I was thinking of when I heard her say it...
- “Save Opal--and get my axe back!” Priorities on point :’)
- MEAT BEAST??? PUPPOS???
- Ashley’s two Natural 1s in a row...  😭
- Opal Misty Stepping on to the back of Dire Wolf!Fearne is so badass, I love that imagery so much... anytime someone uses that spell it ends up being so freaking cool
- Wait why was Opal kidnapped again? Or do we not know yet?
- Fy’ra Rai going “I tell you all these things with two slaps on the back!” made me laugh so hard tbh sfghdjkld that’s just how D&D works sometimes, I wasn’t even questioning it until she pointed it out!
- The way Ashley went “I apologize” in that long drawn out way was so funny dfgdhjk
- Huzzah for getting the Ring of Invisibility, that’s so cool! But also YIKES IT WAS THE PURPLE PEOPLE WHO WERE AFTER OPAL?? HOW COME??
- Dariax’s Opal impression going “Help me Ted!~” before spellcasting truly made me laugh out loud quite literally fsghjkdl (timestamping it at about 4:22:28 on the VOD, 4:07:28 on YT)
- Poor Opal is in shock isn’t she :(((
- NOOOOOO I DON’T WANT ANJALI TO GOOOO I was lowkey hoping that she would stay with the group for the rest of the time, she feels like such a key part of them now!
- “Don’t worry... I would do anything for my friends.” This is still giving me Dorian Corruption Arc vibes and I am not mad about it... what if he makes the same bad turns/choices as he did previously (that Fy’ra Rai is referencing) but this time it’s not because he thinks he’s better off alone, it’s because he does it for the sake of his found family? This is not a theory just an angst dump but woof I love how much potential this storyline has
- I like “the Chosen Ones” as a name so much! Maybe not as much as “the Natural Ones” as I saw suggested in the chat, but hey it’s still a keeper ;)
- Ooh, so is this Ted’s body that someone found? Or is it more of a metaphysical imagery of Ted, ie inside of Opal’s mind? I am so intrigued at what’s to come in these last two episodes!
- See You Next Thursday friends! ;)

Note
what are the gayest destiel episodes you can think of?
ohhhhh i gotchu hold on (this is basically gonna end up being a list of my fave destiel episodes lmaooo)
ok so just a heads-up, i don’t really remember much from s10 onwards (a lot of those episodes i haven’t actually watched since they aired whoops) and i’m currently stuck at the beginning of s9 on my complete rewatch soooo this list focuses only on the first half of the show. i might do an update if i ever manage to finish my rewatch (and remember to post an update at all when the time comes)
ok here we go:
4x16 - On the Head of a Pin
dean calls cas “cas” to his face for the very first time
dean is all “you can't ask me to do this, cas. not this.” (about torturing alastair) and uriel is all “who said anything about asking”, but cas is all: “this is too much to ask, i know. but we have to ask it” and that is the moment that dean realizes that cas cares about him and his feelings/well-being and that’s when he demands to speak to cas alone
and it’s only after cas tells dean he really doesn’t want dean being forced to do the torturing that Dean gives in (”i would give anything not to have you do this”)
like, it’s so obvious already how much cas cares about dean already and we’re only in s4
cas is even starting to go down the path of disobedience (with a little help from anna admittedly, but still. he’s starting to consider it)
they’re so?? comfortable?? with each other. when cas visits dean at the hospital in the end
4x22 - Lucifer Rising
dean literally makes an angel fall in this ep, i mean come on... (the way cas shows up behind him all “you asked to see me” after dean smashes the angel statue cracks me up every single time gsdlka)
dean desperately trying to get cas to help him (bc he knows that IF there’s an angel that would help him it’s cas)
cas is too afraid though and dean gets pissed and literally breaks up with him (D: "you spineless, soulless son of a bitch. what do you care about dying? you're already dead. we're done." C: "dean-" D: "we're done!")
this is the episode in which cas makes his decision and chooses dean over heaven
5x03 - Free to Be You and Me
in the previous episode sam and dean had a fight and split up. this episode starts out with dean being pissed and annoyed and just in a bad mood in general
when cas shows up and asks for help dean is very grumpy and doesn’t want to help at first but then reluctantly agrees
throughout the episode, the more time dean spends with cas the better his mood gets (honestly this point is worthy of its own separate post, i have enough screenshots lmao)
like he’s even smiling at the end of the ep when he’s talking to cas in the car!! (except then he looks over and realizes cas has left mid-conversation again and that smile is wiped right off his face and i’m sad :( )
when they’re in that brothel dean mostly has eyes for cas, even when chastity the hooker is standing right next to him
after the brothel incident when dean is cracking up and goes “it's been a long time since I've laughed that hard. it's been more than a long time. years.” like... buddy. your crush is showing.
and the way cas smiles lovingly at dean laughing next to him
dean be like: “personal space”     also dean: *reaches into cas’s coat without hesitation* *fixes cas’s shirt and tie without hesitation*
also the funniest thing about the whole “personal space” moment in the motel is that there was more than enough space for dean to step aside and increase the distance between him and cas if he had really been all that uncomfortable but he just. doesn’t. no he just stays right where he is
when raphael is trapped in the holy oil and threatens cas all “castiel, I'm warning you. do not leave me here. i will find you.” and cas goes “maybe one day. but today, you're my little bitch.” and walks away and dean tells raphael “what he said” like the impressed and proud boyfriend that he is
inside jokes (see here)
some more iconic quotes/moments from this episode:
“cas, we’ve talked about this. personal space”
“so, what, i'm thelma and you're louise and we're just going to hold hands and sail off this cliff together?”
“well. last night on earth. what are your plans?” “i just thought i'd sit here quietly.”
“let me tell you something. there are two things i know for certain. one, bert and ernie are gay. two, you are not gonna die a virgin. not on my watch.”
5x14 - My Bloody Valentine
hunter husbands!!
the way that dean is not in the mood for hook-ups on valentine’s day and then goes to stare at cas like That
that iconic phone call at the hospital where cas just appears in front of dean who nearly runs into him
cas be looking at sam while listing all the things people can be starving for, and then looks at dean before saying “love”
ok i know this doesn’t have that many points but really this entire ep is great, i very much enjoy all the interactions between cas and dean in this ep
like when dean is not hungry and cas is all “you're not gonna finish that?” and grabs the plate without waiting for an answer bc they’re this married in s5 already
6x20 - The Man Who Would Be King
i mean... this one is obvious isn’t it
this ep is literally all about how cas is doing everything for the winchesters aka dean
the way sam and bobby cautiously voice their suspicions of cas to dean has the same energy as carefully breaking it to a family member that you think their partner is cheating on them
and when they trap cas in the holy oil and confront him dean also acts like a betrayed wife(gn)
which is such a stark contrast to how sam and bobby react to the betrayal (they’re mostly just like “eh this sucks” while dean is emotionally affected)
and even in the following episodes dean is way more affected by cas’s betrayal than sam and bobby are and dean is the one who argues the most with cas (honestly, this entire arc is literally that post that’s all “how do i know dean is in love with cas? bc sam isn’t”)
ok but the holy oil scene is truly like a soap opera (i mean... “where were you when i needed to hear it?” “i was there. where were you?” and dean looking back at cas one last time before running away)
this is their first big break-up and it takes them until the s7 finale to make up
special shoutout to cas watching dean rake leaves
this ep is a LOT
7x17 - The Born-Again Identity
dean’s FACE when he sEES CAS. and then DEAN’S FACE AGAIN when “emmanuel” is all “what’s your issue?”
dean’s face all throughout that first scene with “emmanuel” and daphne, I’M
“you know, I used to be able to just shake this stuff off. you know, whatever it was. It might take me some time, but... i always could. what cas did... i just can't – i don't know why” BECAUSE YOU’RE IN LOVE WITH HIM, IDIOT
the way dean interrupts all irritated when meg goes “i think we're gonna be good friends too” at “emmanuel” (jealous bf much gsdlksafd)
the way dean kept the trenchcoat just in case so he can give it back to cas should he return (which ofc he did)!!!!
7x21 - Reading is Fundamental
yet another one of those “how do I know dean is in love with cas? bc sam isn’t”
at the beginning of the ep at some point sam’s phone rings and when he says that meg (who is watching over cas at the mental hospital) is calling, dean is quick to stand up and even tho meg called sam, dean is the one who ends up having the phone call with her lmao
also dean has no chill during that phone call lmao (he’s irritated when he finds out meg didn’t call them right then and there as soon as cas woke up and he’s immediately concerned when meg says cas is different, while sam’s just standing there holding his phone out to dean, being all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lmao)
dean: *pissed af at cas*    also dean: *almost breaks his own neck at the speed with which he whips his head around at the mention of cas’s name and is desperate to know his location when cas calls meg after dean blasted him away with some other angels at the hospital*
ok no but then meg tells cas their location and cas zaps into the car and it’s hilarious how quick dean is to interrupt whenever cas turns his attention to meg in that scene
8x07 - A Little Slice of Kevin
dean seeing cas everywhere
when you see your best dudebro outside the window in the middle of a storm but when you get up he’s gone and you feel like crap because you could’ve made it out of the war zone together and you just cannot fathom why he didn’t try harder and you just don’t understand why you’re feeling what you’re feeling (and judging by dean’s reaction to sam’s suggestion, clearly it’s not survivor’s guilt)
dean’s FACE when cas suddenly appears behind him in the bathroom
jacting joices: the infamous boner scene (yet another example of “how do I know dean is in love with cas? bc sam isn’t”)
jacting joices pt 2: sam and dean are talking case and then cas walks over to join the conversation and there is literally no reason for dean to check cas out (see here)
during the rescue mission when cas zaps into the room and has a stand-off with crowley and then when dean finally manages to break into the room, can i just say... the way dean immediately rushes to cas (who’s ended up on the floor) and grabs him by the shoulder before he bothers to look around the room
D: “that was a bonehead move back there. you could have gotten yourself killed. why didn't you wait for me?” C: “well, i didn't get killed. and it worked” D: “and if it didn't?” C: “it would have been my problem.” D: “well, that's not the way i see it.”
the purgatory flashbacks when dean keeps insisting that cas is coming along with them back to earth and won’t hear otherwise
“i did everything I could to get you out – everything! i did not leave you.”  “so you think this was your fault?”
“look, I don't need to feel like hell for failing you, okay? for failing you like i've failed every other godforsaken thing that i care about! i don't need it!”
i know we hate buckleming but this episode, man. this episode
8x08 - Hunteri Heroici
i was gonna put this as a special shoutout but then it turned out that i had more to say about this ep than i initially thought
it’s the way dean and cas keep gravitating towards each other in the first half of the episode. no seriously, they somehow keep ending up beside each other and you start wondering “what’s personal space” (friendly reminder that this is the ep right after they’re finally back together again after purgatory)
the married energy and the bickering
the “talk to me” scene where cas finally opens up to dean (but then interrupting moose strikes)
at the retirement home dean to sam and cas: “no flirting you two” then CUT to: dean and cas sitting at a table with an elderly lady who is staring at cas with heart eyes and... lady: “you are so pretty, charles” dean: *must look at young nurse’s butt immediately to distract myself from gay thoughts*
i’m sorry but the way he smiles so widely at cas at one point when they’re talking to that lady, like, she’s just called cas a bounder and dean’s amused about that but his amusement is not in any way malicious and his face is just so full of love when he looks at Cas, it’s embarrassing really (see here)
9x06 - Heaven Can't Wait
ok so i haven’t watched this ep in like 5 years so my memories on this aren’t as fresh as with the previous eps but! it’s the way that cas and dean act exactly like exes (who are still in love with each other) in this ep
dean’s face as he’s staring at cas through the shop window
dean’s smile when he shows up inside the shop
the entire “i can’t let you do this cas” scene in the car
the infamous fanfiction gap
special shout out to:
5x18 - Point of No Return for all the bickering (“you know what? blow me, cas”) and especially  “well, cas, not for nothing, but the last person who looked at me like that… i got laid.”
6x10 - Caged Heat for the pizza man and dean’s reaction to all the megstiel (like jealous bf much?)
6x19 - Mommy Dearest for the strong married energy dean and cas give off in this ep (honestly, all their bickering, it’s glorious) (friendly reminder that this is right before tmwwbk)
7x23 - Survival of the Fittest for the “i’d rather have you cursed or not” scene
8x02 - What's Up, Tiger Mommy? for the purgatory flashbaks with that one monster calling cas dean’s angel and the reunion scene by the river with highlights such as “nice peach fuzz” and “i prayed to you cas, every night” and “i have a price on my head, and i've been trying to stay one step ahead of them, to – to keep them away from you” and “cas, we're getting out of here. we're going home” and “cas, buddy, i need you” and “let me bottom-line it for you. i'm not leaving here without you. understand?”
8x17 - Goodybe Stranger for “i don't know, dean. if he's so sketchy, then why were you praying to him?” and the entire crypt scene (yes this is a big one and yes i’m still only putting it as a special shoutout and yes it’s bc of the megstiel content this ep ok bye <3)

Hey hey hey! Haven't been requesting for quiet a while.
Remember the chishiya kitty and Niragi kitty ya know pre-border kitties!
Yeah can I have a part 2 where *inhales* NIJIRO CAN'T FIND A HOME FOR THE BOTH OF THE KITTIES SO HE ADOPTED CHISHIYA WHILE DORI ADOPTED NIRAGI AND THEY BOTH TAKE THE BOTH OF THEM TO WORK IN THEIR STUDIO WHILE FILMING (yes fanta is there too, and the other doggies) AND WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR DORI TO SHOOT THE FLASHBACK SCENE WHERE NIRAGI GETS...ya know..I AM SAD OF THAT SCENE OKAY!? HE GOT BRUISES AND ALL-
and after that scene Dori comes looking for kitty Niragi and saw the kitten all shaking beneath the black chair that say's the word 'NIRAGI' in the back, ya know those chairs right? (Fanta is there right next to the kitten licking it's head in reassurance what good pupper! He is trained so well-)
The rest is up to you!
Pre-BorderKitties, Now with a Baseball
Characters: Sakurada Dori, Murakami Nijiro, Yanagi Shuntaro (Mentioned), Niragi Suguru (Technically), Chishiya Shuntaro (Technically and also only mentioned)
Genre: Fluff with a little angst. Just a tad. Poor kitty Niragi, he saw baseball season.
1.5k words
Well here you go buddy! It was fun to write, but poor kitty Niragi, he saw something he wasn't supposed to. I like to imagine Niragi later got to hang out at the 'Beach' in a separate room as they filmed the rest, without seeing the fate of his owner wearing the future human version of him. ✨
(Also I'm reusing the liner from the other one because it's nice.)
Tumblr media
The next few days turned into weeks, much longer than the either were expecting.
Murakami came by every day to help Sakurada with the kittens faithfully, as he promised. Since then, the kittens have warmed up a little to them, and by the end of the month they ended up adopting a kitten each. Murakami thought it would be more funnier to take the cat after their character, so now Sakurada had a little dark grey kitten as well as his precious dog. Niragi was still pretty much the same as he was the first day Sakurada met him, skittish and wary of everything, but now a little more willing to cuddle next to Sakurada.
Today was filming day for Alice in Borderland, Sakurada driving over to the site where they were filming one of the scenes, Fanta happily chilling in the backseat with Niragi sitting next to the pupper, the both safely fastened to the car so they couldn’t get thrown around if something happened. Fanta was using a leash while Niragi was just huddled in a little cloth that was attached to a smaller strap, but it was effective enough.
Sakurada parks by the rest of the cars and gets out, opening the door and releasing his pets from the car, Fanta hopping down to walk besides Sakurada. Niragi was carried out instead, the three heading over to where the others where, Sakurada waving at the others there as he passed by and went to the dressing trailer they set up. Later on in the day they’d be shooting the other parts of the Beach episodes, and he didn’t need to be staying in his Pre-Borderland outfit for that long, so it was just a quick change here instead of coming already dressed. He spots Murakami not that far away, the man there despite not filming any scenes until much later in the day, Chishiya cradled in his arms and apparently sleeping.
“ Hi Sakurada!” Murakami waves to Sakurada from a distance, then comes closer and bows properly. “ Good luck during filming today!”
“ Thanks Murakami. What are you doing here?” Sakurada asked, Murakami smiling at him as he straightens up, Chishiya still fast asleep despite the brief squishing he just endured.
“ Well, I just came by to watch! That and I heard you were bringing your pets to work, so I wanted to see them too!” Murakami chirps, Sakurada chuckling. He gestures to Fanta, who was still by his feet, Murakami bending down and petting the pupper. Fanta gives a soft bark and wags his little tail, happy to be getting attention without having to do much. Murakami stands up again and waves to Niragi as well, who was curled up in Sakurada’s arm.
“ Well, I better get going now. Talk to you later!”
“ Okay, I will!”
Sakurada goes to gets dressed and heads out once he finished, placing kitty Niragi down on the chair with his name on it. The kitten mews up at him the moment Niragi left Sakurada’s warm hands. Sakurada smiles at Niragi and gently pets the kitten, which earns him the tiniest of purrs and a loafed bean when he lifts his hand up. “ You stay here and rest for a bit, okay Niragi? I need to go work for a little bit~”
Niragi only stays here and watches as Sakurada heads towards the bridge where the scene would be, not far from where everything else was. Sakurada could see Fanta happily playing with Yanagi’s dog Merry not that far away. Sakurada appreciated that Yanagi came by just to hang out with Fanta once he heard that Sakurada was taking his dog to the site so that when they were released until later on they could just hang out and do normal people things. Maybe they could walk the dogs together, that’d be fun.
The scene itself was thankfully taken within a few shots so Sakurada didn’t have to worry about any real bruising on his beautiful face. The hits weren’t as hard as it looked, they made sure to use softballs and not apply as much pressure as it was depicted to prevent any real damage, but the acting (and extra makeup they applied to make it more realistic) still had to make it seem they were the real deal. Sakurada congratulated everyone for the good job, the others even coming over to check to assure he was perfectly alright before they broke for a break and moved locations to film some more scenes at the ‘Beach’ indoors, the nighttime outdoor scenes taking much later in the day.
Sakurada heads back to the break area, but pauses when he notices something wrong, Murakami wandering around with worry on his face.
“ Murakami? Murakami, what’s wrong?” Sakurada jogged over to his friend, Murakami looking up at Sakurada.
“ I can’t find Niragi.” “ Huh? What do you mean?”
Murakami looks at the ground, eyes flicking around to try to spot the kitten. “ Well, I thought it’d be a good idea to let the kitten roam around a little, under my supervision on course! So I took him off the chair you left him on. But….”
Sakurada raised an eyebrow as he waited for Murakami to finish, although panic was already seeping into his bones. “ But…?”
“ Well, I think Niragi saw you guys acting out that scene, and he suddenly ran off. I don’t know where he went. Goodness, I hope he didn’t run far…”
Sakurada frowns, then nods. “ Let’s look for him. Go see if Yanagi spotted him too.”
Murakami nods in return, and they part, Sakurada looking around to see if he could find the skittish kitten, including underneath places a kitten could’ve been. He shouldn’t have ran far, but since this was a fairly open area…. Sakurada shivered at the thought of what could happen. He even called out the kitten’s name a few times and asked the others if they saw where Niragi had scampered off too, but no results.
Sakurada was about ready to start looking outside the area where they had all been in when he felt paws against his shoe. Sakurada looks down to Merry, who barks and runs off almost immediately, Sakurada following after the dog.
“ What is it Merry?” Sakurada asked, the pupper stopping in front of the black chair where he last had left the kitten. “ Wait, is he….?” Merry barks in response and wags her tail, the trots off after apparently having completing the mission the dog set out to do.
Sakurada lets out a small chuckle at the dog’s antics, then finally checks underneath the chair, finally getting his prize of finding his kitten. Niragi was curled up right underneath the shade of the chair, easily fading into the shadows with how dark and small he was. Sakurada reaches out for the kitten, and the moment his fingers grazed the kitten he felt the poor thing shaking, and a short mew erupted from Niragi, full of fear. Sakurada instantly started hushing the heightened kitten, staying still and reassuring Niragi that he was alright..
“ Oh, did I scare you? I’m sorry Niragi, I didn’t mean to. I’m alright, see? Nothing’s gonna hurt you either you little vanilla bean, oh I’m so sorry if that scared you….” Sakurada says in a soft tone, the kitten mewing again while he continued to shake, fur puffed up all over and resembling a dust bunny.
The sad mews seemed to have caught Fanta’s attention as well, the dog padding over and laying next to Niragi, licking the kitten as if he knew the best way to calm a crying bean.
The two laid there underneath the chair comforting the kitten for a while, and while others did come by to see if everything was okay, Sakurada always politely sent them on their way to reduce Niragi’s stress. Eventually he could scoop the kitten up, getting into a sitting position as the kitten trembled against his chest, a paw moving to press against his chest, which was still in the school uniform he was supposed to wear.
“ It’s alright now Niragi, I’m here. I’m here.” Sakurada continued to soothe, cradling the kitten as he heads to the trailer. After all, he still needed to change out and get the makeup wiped off so he could head to the other location for more filming.
Afterwards, he gets up and heads to his car, grabbing the little cloth pouch with the strap. Thankfully, it also functioned as a sort of carrier, Sakurada tying it around himself and settling the kitten to rest within, right up to his heart so the kitten could listen to his perfectly alright heart. Within seconds the kitten began to quietly purr, curling up safely in the comfort of Sakurada. Sakurada nods in satisfaction, and he heads to where Yanagi was, the man offering the extra leash he brought so they could walk their dogs together, Sakurada quickly thanking him. He calls his dog over, Fanta trotting over and letting Sakurada clip the leash to him. Hopefully Fanta would walk for a fair distance, knowing how much more he preferred to just flop and become a fried dumpling instead, the two setting off for a nice brisk walk until they had to head down for the rest of filming.
Niragi, at the very least, was safe and comfortable, the best way Sakurada preferred him to be after that harrowing experience for the kitten.

RWBY Recaps: “ACE Operatives”
Tumblr media
We’re back, folks! I have to say, I think overall this is one of the strongest episodes we’ve gotten since “The Lost Fable.” Are there still concerns? You know it, but on the whole I’ve got to give credit where credit’s due. So with that unexpectedly optimistic mindset, let’s dive in.
We open right on the group’s first mission and for a moment I was worried that, like with Oscar’s shopping, this time skip would be passed right over. Especially after we hear Pietro apologize for “holding onto your weapons for so long,” telling us that between the Academy tour at the end of last episode and this mission today, at least a few weeks have passed. Long enough for one guy to re-design multiple combat outfits and weaponry, plus an additional boost here and there. Luckily, the first part of the episode cuts among three distinct times: when they got their weapons, when they first heard about the mission, and this present day flight/landing, which as a technique I like quite a bit. It gives us a sense of each time while keeping us moving forward. No one is thinking, “Ugh. Do we really need to hear a mission briefing when most of last episode was learning about this plan in the first place?” because we already know this is taking place in the past. Just sit through the snippet and then the rest of the info will come through voice-overs while the group jumps out of an airship. Good balance of exposition and action.
Tumblr media
What we learn in these flashbacks is that Ironwood wants to use an abandoned dust mine for the satellite’s launch. Only problem? It’s inhabited by a very old, extremely dangerous geist. Kudos to the writing team for the Volume Two callback. I’ve always been intrigued by Oobleck’s comment that grimm are capable of learning if they continue to survive and here we finally see an example of that. This geist isn’t just strong, it’s smart enough to hide in the mines themselves.
Shot over all this we see Atlas military personnel taking out the everyday grimm in the surrounding area, proving that their weapons can handle that task in most situations. Why doesn’t Ironwood’s robots have that then? Or as others have pointed out, something even more powerful like Penny’s lasers, or some of the upgrades the team gets? Chock it up to lack of funds... or simple plot setup. If the robots had been able to take out a bunch of grimm easy-peasy then there wouldn’t have been any cool premiere fight for our group. Then again, all of this casts their snarky comments about Ironwood’s defenses in a new light. Clearly they’re a force to be reckoned with when the plot actually allows it.
Tumblr media
We likewise see the group receiving their new gear and... okay. Here’s where the griping starts. Though it’s admittedly small compared to most of my criticisms. First off, why is Jaune receiving a random scrap of Pyrrha’s outfit? Logically this makes no sense to me. Pyrrha’s body disintegrated into a bunch of dust. I can buy Jaune incorporating other armor and fabric into his gear because they were living together and Pyrrha must have spares, but where did this come from? Did Pietro go ask a family member for a random memento for the (from his perspective) equally random teen that showed up? It’s entirely possible that I’m missing something---I’m sick as a dog at the moment and am probably one fever degree away from mild hallucinations---but the whole setup seems incredibly weird. We see Jaune open his box. We see his look of shock. He see him fingering a torn piece of Pyrrha’s skirt. But how does all that come together in any logical way?
More importantly... why? Why is this still a thing? I get it, Jaune is grieving, but to be frank this has been his one-note characterization for over three volumes now. More importantly, everyone else is grieving too. This is another case of the writing prioritizing what the audience knows over what characters know. Meaning, we got to see how close Jaune and Pyrrha were. We know they were in love, but outsiders like Ironwood and Pietro see them as a unified team. Why not give a scrap to Jaune, Nora, and Ren? Really, that’s what rankles the most: this continuing focus on Jaune over the rest of his team. Especially when that focus just leads us in circles of the ‘Jaune is sad’ variety. I thought we were supposed to be learning more about Nora this volume, so why not give her something to remember Pyrrha by? I realize we’re only through the third episode, but in a series that averages twelve each volume, that’s a fourth of our material gone. Please. I’m begging you. Enough about Jaune. We’ve watched him cry and rage and lash out for three years now. He’s gotten to move through every type of grief the writing could throw at him. Let someone else take the spotlight for a change.
Tumblr media
(It’s also just all around weird because Jaune is smiling sadly, implying he’s moving on, but then we have Clover narrating about how they’re “going to kill this thing...” which reminds us of Pyrrha’s murder in a way not really conducive to the whole ‘moving on’ vibe... it’s just odd.)
Second gripe: why doesn’t Oscar get anything? I’ve written before about how overall the group still treats Oscar as the outsider and boy oh boy, do we see that trend continuing here. I’ll speak about this more in a moment when we get to the Ozpin situation, but for this scene in particular there’s no reason he shouldn’t be included. If Jaune can get a cool addition to his shield after updating his own outfit, Oscar can get a cool addition too. Take five seconds to have Pietro point out that, as a random farm kid buying combat gear for the first time, he didn’t totally hit the mark. Here are a few things to keep you safer. Hell, you could even have Pietro---who we have established goes above and beyond in his inventions---pull Oscar aside with an updated weapon and Oscar could have gotten all quiet, examining his cane, eventually thanking Pietro, but emphasizing that he doesn’t think he should change things just yet. Or without anther’s input. Or, if Atlas doesn’t want to waste funds on the farm boy let him get a haircut like literally everyone else! We could have allotted Oscar a few seconds of screen time instead of getting what we always get: the team banding together and him nowhere to be seen.
Tumblr media
He’s a part of this mission. He’s integral to this mission. He is a main character now. It’s about time the writing started acknowledging that.
The final flashback, at least, includes Oscar a little more. I realize my screenshot isn’t the best, but the expressions here really do say it all: Ruby mindlessly geeking out over new tech while Oscar stands sadly in another doorway.
Tumblr media
We hear him say, “Hey... Ruby?” before he’s cut off and we return to the present.
We’ll get back to him in just a moment. For now, the airship opens to reveal everyone’s new look, which isn’t actually a reveal because this scene dominated the trailer.
Tumblr media
Ah well. I have to say though, from here on out one of the main reasons why this episode feels strong to me is because of the overall dynamic among the characters. First, it was smart to break everyone up into different teams to search for a hidden grimm. If they’d tried to cram twelve characters into the same shot for the rest of the episode it would have been a disaster. Second, these smaller teams allow for the sort of teasing/comfort/playfulness we’ve grown used to among these characters, but have largely lost over the last two volumes. One of my favorite moments is when Yang is caught staring at Blake’s new haircut and we get a look at this massive blush.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to ship on main, but please note the parallel between this moment and Nora/Ren, two characters who are more firmly established as a canonical couple. Although... here when Nora compliments Ren’s hair he shuts her down pretty hard. There’s none of the casual indulgence we’re used to from him. Since when does Ren insist that Nora take a mission seriously, outside of making those requests in an equally teasing manner? Nora notices as much too, clearly upset, and Jaune is just... dense. It makes me wonder though if this is the direction they’re heading in for Nora. Give her romance troubles in the form of Ren pulling away now that their relationship has had a chance to sink in.
Not sure I’m a big fan of that. Granted, it depends on how they handle it, but on the whole I’m not really invested in reducing Nora’s rare and much needed development down to a cliche ‘Oh no. A boy doesn’t like me’ plot-line. We’ll have to see though.
Tumblr media
I also really liked the moment between Weiss and Blake a little later. This is how you tackle racism in your story. Not by having the group risk their world-saving mission by Weiss impulsively throwing civilians into the trash, but by having an incredibly privileged woman acknowledge her privilege. Weiss mentions how angry this mine’s failure made her father, but she doesn’t use the abuse she suffered as any sort of excuse, like she would have in the earlier volumes. Instead, Weiss acknowledges for herself how hard that time was and then apologizes not only for what he’s done to the faunus, but also for “all my complacency in it.” Weiss was a child. We can’t hold her to the same level of responsibility as Jacques. But as a privileged woman in this world Weiss’ complacency does perpetuate her father’s active sins. So it’s fantastic that she admits as much to Blake. In front of all the others, no less. To me, that’s a far better sign of growth than what we got last week.
Tumblr media
It’s also during this time that we see Blake eyeing the SDC boxes with anxiety. It could just be bad memories. It could imply that she had some hand in this particular attack. I hope it implies that she’s thinking about Adam because... is anyone going to bring him up? Seriously? Two teammates killed a guy. The self-defense aspect doesn’t erase the fact that they each rammed a piece of a blade through his stomach and watched him topple over a waterfall. We should be dealing with this! Not reducing it to one hug from Ruby right before a major battle. Hopefully this is setup for some (now long overdue) reflection.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, an interaction that doesn’t work as well is when Ruby comments on how freezing she is and Weiss notes that without proper equipment or aura insulation you can freeze to death in an hour. So... is that what the group is doing then? Wasting precious aura whenever they’re outside because Blake wants her arms unzipped, Weiss wants bare spots around her chest, and Yang needs to artistically keep one leg and one arm totally unclothed? The issue is not, “How does the group stay warm?” because plenty of stories have logistical questions like that and unless you’re a fan overly invested in the minutiae, you shrug it off. When is the group going to the bathroom during these endless missions? Who’s carrying pads for when three of them hit their periods at once? No one cares. Rather, the issue is that the writing draws attention to the question and then fails to answer it. Just like they did when suddenly death via cold was something that had to keep them in the creepy town when death via cold was never a concern up until then. Where was hypothermia when Yang insisted Ozpin hash out all his secrets in the snow? It’s a rather convenient ‘Sometimes it’s an issue, sometimes not,” situation. Obviously aura isn’t doing much to keep them toasty though if Ruby feels the need to comment on how cold she still is. And that attention then invites further questions like, “Why then are they still dressed inappropriately for the weather? Should we expect them to fall more quickly in battle because aura is going towards making sure they don’t freeze to death in under an hour?” Better to just leave it alone.
Tumblr media
Talk of the cold leads into Oscar though because Yang comments, “I suddenly don’t feel so bad about leaving Oscar behind.” Which... no. You did leave him behind. Don’t try to make that palatable with stupid upsides like, ‘Well at least he’s warm!’ Worse, the group does nothing to justify that decision. Realistically I can buy why they’d leave Oscar out of this mission. We’ve established that this particular grimm has already taken out a lot of people and, without Ozpin, Oscar is still a newbie fighter. With the exception of the train and one grimm in the premier, I don’t think Oscar has fought many grimm at all. So really, it would take two sentences to establish this. Tell us that this mission is way out of his skill range and throw out that he’s training with Ironwood or something. That’s it. That’s all it takes, but the writing bypasses that and leaves us with, ‘The group left Oscar behind... for reasons?’ Which, in the context of his entire time with them looks really, really bad. Because they left him out of the dinner in Haven. And the hunt for supplies at the farm. And in retrieving the relic. And left him alone at the Argus house. And left him out of the upgrade joy. We’ve now established a trend of the group outright ignoring Oscar, whether it’s during bright celebratory moments or agonizing traumatic ones. Doesn’t matter, he’s left out of the loop, and now we see the same thing happening here. Rather than a simple and logical, ‘Oscar isn’t ready to fight a super old geist,’ what we’re left with paints the situation as, ‘Oscar is left behind because Ruby disagrees with him.’
Because without clarification, that’s the context. We get another (very short) flashback where he (thank you, thank you) points out that what they’re doing to Ironwood is precisely what Ozpin did to them. (Although Oscar tries to soften this by saying it only “feels like” the same thing.) Ruby looks guilty for a second... and then that’s it. We’re back to at least a day later where they’re on this mission, they’ve left Oscar behind, and Ruby is re-explaining why her morals are sound.
Tumblr media
I’ll admit I’m pleased that Yang points out that they agreed no more lies and no more half-truths. I honestly didn’t expect her to say even that much against her precious sister. But still, on the whole this dilemma isn’t much of a dilemma at all. It’s reading precisely like the airship debacle: a few characters giving token disagreements but when push comes to shove whatever Ruby wants, Ruby gets. You know how above I pointed out how much I like the split present/past business so that we can have a balance between talking and action? Yeah, that only works if the talking is generic exposition. We don’t need a long-winded discussion about the details of this mission. We do need a substantial discussion about the absolute hypocrisy the group has fallen into. That split between past and present is important. Are you honestly going to tell me that over all these days---if not, arguably, weeks---the group never once had a conversation about this? That we don’t get to see that downtime filled with some actual growth? And we could have easily achieved that with the current setup. Extend Oscar’s flashback into something significant, leaving the geist battle for next week. Let him be angry for once, furious that after all the shit they put Ozpin through, and by extension him, they’re just going to turn around and do the exact same thing without even an apology? An acknowledgment that they were wrong? Or create space to have that discussion now. Harriet comes out of the mine saying a part of it has collapsed and they need time to clear it, giving Team RWBY the chance to really hash some things out and disagree for once. Instead, as expected, secret keeping is framed as the right decision without anyone but Oscar acknowledging the hypocrisy in that. They even go so far as to say, “Why don’t we play along for a while before me make any major decisions.” Newsflash:
Tumblr media
Graphic design is my passion, all.
Overall it’s not quite as pro-protagonist as it could have been, but it’s not great either. We’re left with the fact that the group has this time sitting with their own lies and apparently, after all that, what they’ve settled on is denial. Great. Fantastic. I hope Oscar finds new friends at the Academy who encourage him to really call them out on this later.
We also learn that Ruby gave the relic back to Oscar. So the writing is self-aware enough for her to acknowledge that carrying it around on her belt is a horrendously bad idea, but not self-aware enough to keep her getting it back in the first place? Imagine you hired someone to transport a priceless painting to your super safe vault and then when it finally arrives you go, “Actually, you did such a good job getting that here I think it’ll be safer in your hands as you go about your life. Rather than the vault I specifically built for it.” Except the painting is a magic relic, the vault is also nearly impenetrable via magic, and the transporter is now a 14yo who, as established, is the weakest fighter of the group. For the love of Ironwood’s characterization, please let that relic be a fake.
Tumblr media
Really, on the whole that moment could have been touching... but again, context. ‘Here’s the relic back that I basically stole and then ripped all Ozpin’s trauma from him by wasting an invaluable question.’ Yeah. All the while everyone is still talking as if Ozpin isn’t even there. Ironwood, in his ignorance, has been the one person to actually address him, despite the fact that the entire group knows he’s listening in. You know that feeling when you’re sitting with a bunch of people you’re not particularly close with and it’s clear they’re deliberately not including you in the conversation? Yeah, it’s like that only a thousand times worse. No wonder Ozpin still hasn’t tried to come out. No one cares about his vessel, they still actively hate him, and they’re all hypocritical to boot. I’d stay hidden too.
Anyway, back to the actual plot. Qrow has been paired off with Clover and at first we get a really excellent conversation about teamwork. We as the audience know precisely why Qrow prefers to work alone, but when he slips and Clover manages to catch him, it functions as a fantastic counter. See? Qrow might have bad luck, but this is precisely why he does need to be around others. They can help him when things get tough.
However, that message is severely undermined when it’s later revealed that Clover’s semblance is good luck.
Tumblr media
Not only does that remove the previously stated wonderful message---because now it’s not about Qrow learning to accept help, it’s about how Clover’s semblance just conveniently cancels his out---it’s just an iffy stretch of my suspension of disbelief. Really? Out of all the people they could have met, that Qrow could have been paired with, he happens to find the one guy with the exact opposite semblance to him? Clover is an incredibly handsome and charismatic guy. He’s the leader of the strongest kingdom’s strongest team. He just happens to have the best version of Qrow’s greatest weakness. I know I said I wanted more passive semblances, but I would have preferred something other than this heavy-handed introduction.
Although... are they passive? I had to pause the episode for a moment when Qrow throws out, “sometimes I can’t keep it under control” because excuse me?? There are times you can keep it under control? Since when? How? I know we’re loose on our semblance rules here, but c’mon. Is Qrow’s entire life governed by a trait outside of his control or not?
Tumblr media
We see a similar issue cropping up at the end of the episode when Harriet informs Ruby that there’s “something else” going on with her semblance. Look. RWBY isn’t Dragon Ball Z. The characters don’t need to tap into unheard of powers every season to keep things interesting. As Yang herself points out, Ruby already has super special silver eyes.
Tumblr media
Her semblance is speed and transformation and transforming other people along with her. Weiss is already a super special Schnee with a super special hereditary semblance that creates glyphs and summoned fighters of whatever she’s killed. Blake is already a super special Belladonna with ties to the world’s biggest resistance group. Yang... okay, Yang is admittedly an ordinary girl with an ordinary background and that’s one of the things I still love about her. She grows stronger through more training, better strategy, and turning any weaknesses into strengths---like her arm. It’s so much more powerful to give characters that kind of arc than to fall back on, “[gasp!] You were secretly special all along.” So who knows what else they’re going to add to Ruby’s semblance. Whatever it is, it’s not needed.
Tumblr media
I will say though that semblance issues aside, I’m liking the Ace Ops way more than I thought I would. Given that introducing five more characters was, objectively, a bad move. But they’ve got real personality attached to them. I appreciated that Clover thanked Qrow for the save (they could have made a guy that ‘perfect’ way more arrogant) while the rest spent a good portion of the time teasing RWBYJNR like they’re little siblings. Which I adored. For the first time in volumes we got to see our heroes portrayed exactly as they are: teens in training. Nora says that it “feels like we’re an actual huntsmen team,” acknowledging that they’re not yet. They’re the students following the professionals, helping out without getting in the way. It stood out to me that the geist fight is identical to the one we got in Volume Four, with the exception that it’s way, way better. They come up with Jaune’s strategy to remove the limbs in an instant, rather than taking the entire fight trying and failing to do damage. I don’t think a single member of the Ace Ops took a hit, despite the fact that this geist was a huge threat to the rest of the Atlesian army. Like Team RWBY at times, there was seamless communication, perfect execution, and the one time they made a mistake? Ruby was there to help them out. I really appreciated that the writing had RWBYJNR sit this one out until their particular skills---in this case Ruby’s speed---was actually needed, as opposed to an arrogant, ‘How dare you not let us fight!’ where they endanger themselves and others by insisting that they know best.
Tumblr media
This is the RWBYJNR I want to see more of. Ozpin remains a huge, glaring issue, but if the writer’s can keep this sort of attitude in mind we’ll be making good strides away from the horror that was Volume Six. No more, “We don’t need adults,” please. As a bunch of adults just demostrated, they’re way out of your league.
Tumblr media
Finally, we end the episode on Tyrian again. Showcasing RWBY’s new love of horror tropes, he appears beneath the flickering lamp light (complimenting the jump scare we got with Blake earlier on). He approaches Forest, the activist from the airship, and we end with Tyrian’s tail coming his way. Did he just poison him? Did he kill him? What’s the end goal here? Just sow chaos by leaving a bunch of bodies lying around? It’s unclear, but whatever is going on, Tyrian sure is busy.
Also, RIP #FRWBY.
Until next week!
Minor Things of Note
I like that Jaune and Blake both looked at their hair before we cut to them with new looks. Still not over Jaune’s style though. He’s french fry head now and no one will convince me otherwise.
It looks like Blake’s blade has been welded back together with a bit of yellow something-or-other...
Bad execution on an otherwise cool introduction to Marrow’s semblance. That was epic how he managed to stop both centipede grimm at once, but then Harriet just... slams them? Awkwardly? They don’t even disintegrate? Idk. Her end of that team attack didn’t live up to Marrow’s.
Team JNR has a very “headfirst approach.” True enough. Although, it’s not like they had an easy way to stop like their Ace Operative teammates. They did the best they could under the circumstances lol.
Jaune also has a landing strategy! I would have rather the writing just acknowledge that than give us that weird moment with Pyrrha’s fabric.
Not sure if I like Qrow’s new outfit or not. To be fair, that man would look stunning in a paper bag, so I’m not sure I’m an objective judge of any change here. Also to be fair, my own fashion ‘skills’ leaves something to be desired. So I think I’ll just bow out of this particular conversation.

1x09 - Blair Waldorf must pie!
Once again this took way longer than I wanted to. I guess it has a lot to do that this part of S1 is full of episodes that I loved and also are kind of important so I just feel that I have to be really in the mood to watch them with my full attention.
Anyway, enough about me, here’s the recap for this one after the break.
Tumblr media
Thoughts I had while watching the episode
Loving the flashback of Serena in her wild days and Blair looking after her.
This flashback kind of messes up the timeline though. Because we’re told Serena was gone for a year, but that’s clearly not the case here.
Dan get’s to be Serena’s knight in shiny armor, great. To bad for him she was wasted.
How long ago was it that Blair’s dad been gone? Probs like quite a few months and he hasn’t come to visit her?
I mean I get that Dan is pissed with his mom, but that guilt comment was harsh
Harold Waldorf’s pumpkin pie, I don’t know if anyone has read as much fanfic as I have but this pie, is quite the celebrity.
The oh so casual mention that Blair takes Lexapro :/
Serena trying (and failing) to be casual when asking what Chuck’s doing today.
I think this is the first time that Serena (and later Nate) point out that Chuck and Blair are friends, considering they all were, this must mean that they were somehow closer friends.
This fight is such a clear example of how Blair and Serena go from besties to enemies in 5 seconds flat.
This one though is kind of funny to me in the way Serena’s like “I won’t judge” and then does exactly that.
Somehow Blair I don’t believe you when you say you don’t like Chuck’s natural musk, just a hunch.
I kind of feel Serena’s way of aproaching this topic was not the best, though to be fair Blair’s also really hard to approach.
Lilly how much I missed you last episode
Seeing Llily, Eric and Serena in Chinatown is giving me life for some reason
So by thanksgiving sophomore year Blair was already in recovery from her ED, she was really young when she started then.
Wow, “not this one Harold, we have to go together” this line implies so much and I can’t believe I never noticed before
Blair sending Nate to deal with Serena it’s interesting, because I wouldn’t imagine her being naive enough to not noticed Nate’s interest in Serena, granted she trusted them, but still
I love Dorota, always there for Blair, always loyal.
The mood at Nate’s thanksgiving dinner is so misserable.
Lily, Allison’s and Rufus faces are priceless. Let the drama begin!
“Oh the blond you stalk at school” really they told us and we didn’t listen!!!
Not that didn’t earned herself the harsh comment but, “he didn’t left us, he left you” kind of made me feel bad for Eleanor
Forget it, she was really insentive, and Blair’s face when she grabbed that pie is just heartbreaking.
I can’t believe I forgot about her throwing up incident after that dinner with Nate in the pilot... like wow.
Do you need to go with her? sorry Allison
This dinner is hilariously akward. Sorry Jenny, but I don’t think that song was about your mom.
This is one of my favorite Serante scenes, it’s so them.
Honestly this show needed more flashblacks. I love knowing more about their friendship pre series.
Nate thinking of calling Blair and then Serena, and realizing he can’t is the first time I think he truly gets how he really messed it up
It’s so weird now to see Blai’rs bathroom with the door conecting it to the other room.
Allison calling her character in a play Milly in reference to Lily sheds a bit of ligh in Dan’s abbilities in naming characters.
The captain reached rock bottom, poor Nate.
I wonder though if Anne was the one with the money, and yet Nate’s last name is prestigious, does that mean The Captain family had lost their money at some point and the only thing that remain was their last name?
I should have mentioned it before but Blair looks incredibly pretty this episode, and the dress is one of my all time favorites.
“But we’re not related” give it time Dan, give it time
Hi Cedric.
“Only a woman that had satisfied her sexual appetite in her youth could have married some of your step fathers” auch
And so Rufly ends... for now
Eleanor talking about the divorce paper and how she feels and how she acted because of it, reminded of a certain scene in S5. Blair’s truly her mother daughter.
The end of that flashback felt so much like this is why they say ignorance is Bliss. Except for Serena things are better for her now.
The New York setting makes this show even more awsome, that shot with the Bridge and the Manhattan skyline in the background while Dan’s family is having a merry old time is gorgeous.
So this episode was so good, it gave a lot of background information and added much more depth to some of the main characters, particularly Blair. But also Nate. I was really suprised by the amount of stuff I didn’t remember about this particular episode, so in that sense this feel like this is the episode I’ve enjoyed the most during my rewatch.
Having a flashback was easily the best part of this episode in the sense that it gives us a clear idea of how things were before the series and how disaster was brewing just beneath the surface. What a diference a year makes. The previous thanksgiving was at the height of Serena’s wild days, and it’s sad to see how her life was pretty much a never ending haze of parties and alcohol, she may be acting goofy but it’s an empty happiness and it let’s you feeling like this is the only way she can deal with her life. And always looking after her is Blair.
The Blair of a year before seems really happy, she’s on the road of recovery from her eating disorder, her parents are together, her mother is showing actually some concern for her, and Nate is still a loving boyfriend. And yet in many ways this is all a lie. Her parent’s marriage is just a charade, Eleanor’s comment asking Harold not to go after Roman, is so telling and it makes me wonder how long did Eleanor knew her husband was gay? that must have been such a burden for her, and it’s probably the reason why she was so focused in her work and wanted everything else to be perfect, in some ways it also explains her treating of Blair, wrong as it was.
Tumblr media
Also the timing of this makes me kind of mad at Harold, he’s always comes across as the nice good parent, but this episode makes it really obvius how much his absence hurt Blair. Think about it. When the show starts it’s established that a few months before Harold had left his wife and the country in favor for a life in Paris with another man. So considering that november the previous year (only a year before the current episode)  is the first time Harold hears about Roman this means he decided to leave his family for a guy he had just meth a few months before, I guess he must have really fallen in love and really quickly, and I understand his need to live a free life, but what a shock it must have been for Blair and how unloved she must have felt that his father was leaving her in New York with a mother that was incredibly hard on her, for a guy he just met. And this at a time when she was still recovering.
There’s also the Nate-Serena-Blair issue. At some poing after Thanksgiving, the Shepperd Wedding happened, which means like I mentioned before that Serena was gone less than a year, and the way Blair encouraged Nate to help her with Serena means that even if she may have suspect Nate’s interest in Serena she still believed that Nate did love her and that Serena would never do that to her and therefore she wasn’t worried about it. Blair doesn’t trust easily and in this case she did and it end ups with her being betrayed, and yet it was a long time coming. Just as I mentioned in previous recaps that there was lowkey something to Blair and Chuck’s friendship, the same can be said about Nate and Serena, I don’t like to mention at least not much future events in these recaps but really compare this scene of Nate and Serena goofing around in the bathroom with any of their scenes in the second half of S3 and they’re really similar, same vibe and chemistry. Nate and Blair goodbye at the end of the flashback even if he gaves her a kiss and calls her sweetheart, seems so lacking in comparison to his previous moment with Serena, and yet Blair smiles and it’s really happy about her life.
Tumblr media
So all of this shows how much she had been hurting at the start of the show, her father gone, her best friend gone and a distant boyfriend who by this point couldn’t hide his interest in Serena coming across by how afected he was by her absence, and when the show starts it gets even worse. All the flashbacks of Blair dealing with food and even throwing up once when she was trying to forgive Nate his infidelity show us the depth of her problems and suffering and helps us to understand her so much more and feel for her. And in her moment of weakness she calls Serena, the fight at the star of the episode was a way of letting us know that in some ways Blair hasn’t let go completely of her betreyal and yet how easily their dissagrements go out of the picture the moment they really need each other, is such a deep friendhip, and yet how conflicting it must be for Blair to love and need so much a person who in many ways is a reminder of how things have gone wrong in the last year.
That is the crux about their friendship, they’re both there for each other when it really matters but it’s undenaible that they have hurt each other deeply, even without meaning too, Serena is a the root of some of Blair self steem issues, is not her fault but it has done Blair incredibly damage, at the same time Blair may be always there for Serena looking after her, but she’s frequently incredible cruel with her at times without a real reason beyond a missplaced sense of hurting her too, which causes scenes like their fight this episode where Serena tries to be a friend, becomes a little judgy and Blair overreacts and Serena understandably fights back... it’s a really complex relationship, and one of the aspects of the show that make’s it stand out.
Lastly, this episode is a good reminder of how ultimetly Ruflly and Derena can’t really function at the same time without it being weird for everyone involved, it also establishes the similitudes between both relationships, a warning of how things could end for Dan and Serena if they’re not careful, and this is only the start. Nate’s storyline this episode was super sad, last episode had him standing up to his parents, this one finally gets him to have some honest conversations with them, and while it hurts is nice to see him finally get to that moment. It’s a moment of real growth for him. It also gives some interesting background to his family history, about how Anne’s family (the Vanderbilts) are the real force behind his family life, the house, his father job... everything was given by the Vanderbilts. It makes me wonder a lot about the Captain’s family, and his history with Anne: did the captain came from a family with a prestigious  Last name but that had lost their money at some point?, or was he an upstart? I can’t see snobish Anne falling in love with a nobody, but who nows.
Also, not that noticible at this point of the show beyond the paralles between Dan & Serena and Rufus and Lily, but in the last two episode some scenes of Eleanor and the captain had reminded me of future scenes and situations and Nate and Blair having similar reactions. Anyway I love this episode, the then and now, and how much more there is to these characters.
Random bits:
This is the first direct mention of Blair having an eating dissorder (not sure though, this is why I wanted to be faster with these recaps, so I don’t forget details)
Dorota’s wearing a themed apron, how cute
First mention of the Snowflake Ball, I like consistency hahaha.
Nate’s house look lovely, not sure if these are the real interiors of the house, probably not, but I did read somewhere the house used to be on rental? can’t remember.
There was a picture behind Jenny while they were having dinner of a kid wearing a suit, I know the cast used some actual photos of the cast as kids, so I don’t know if the kid is Penn but god the kid is so cute.
I’m not a New Yorker, but that place where Dan and his family are playing it’s really changed now isn’t it? There’s this guy called Action Kid in youtube and he was amazing videos about New York, and of this location in particular if my memory serves me right.
And because we rarely got to see Serena in her wild days, I feel I should end this post with just that.

8x09: Analysis
Good morning! How did everyone like the episode last night? Today I'm going to talk about broad plot points. Tomorrow I'll do a post about the details.
Tumblr media
I thought it was a beautiful episode. A really good send off for Carl. I cried several times.
***Warning: Spoilers for 8x09 about in this episode. Don’t read until you’ve watched! You’ve been warned!***
Carl
5x09 Parallels. I've said several times I thought there would be parallels between this episode and 5x09, where Tyreese died. There weren't as many as I expected, but they were there. The biggest one was seeing Rick and Michonne dig Carl's grave at the beginning, even though we didn’t actually see him die until the end.
Tumblr media
Very similar to Ty’s death. We saw the grave being dug at the beginning of 5x09, but didn't understand whose grave it was until the end. In that case, we had no idea Ty would die (unless we read spoilers) until the end of the episode. The difference here was that we knew Carl would die when his bite was revealed in 8x08.
Tumblr media
Carl told Judith that he didn't beat the world, as Lori said he would. I have to say I disagree. He was bitten. Of course he still beat the world in his own way. But he said to everyone, as he was dying, to recognition, especially, showed that almost outgrown the world. It was his own special kind of transcendence. In a way, that’s a parallel to Tyreese too, as Tyreese died thinking about forgiveness and peace.
Huge emphasis on the fact that he got to say goodbye. In the flashbacks, Michonne left him a note saying “I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye” for when she left with Rosita to see the Sanctuary.
Tumblr media
Of course, she DID get to say goodbye because she made it back in time. They talked about goodbyes several times throughout the episode. Remember that Beth hated goodbyes, and no one really got to say goodbye to her because her death was so sudden. Major anti-parallels there. Of course, it's all-important that he got to say goodbye and we saw his burial.
It's important that we saw the flashbacks at all. We have major precedence for this. When they don't show us something, they always flash back to it later. It. For example, in S4 we saw Ricky kick Carol out of the prison. In S5, they showed us flashbacks to what happened to her during that missing time. The same thing is true here. And it wasn't just Carl's point of view that we flashback to. We also saw flashbacks how the Saviors escaped the sanctuary. Before, Rick was imprisoned at the junkyard, and when he returned, he didn't know what happened. So it flashed back to Morgan's point of view as well, showing what happened what we missed.
Tumblr media
This is important because it shows that everything we missed with Beth will have to be shown eventually. They ALWAYS eventually show us events that are skipped. There's a lot of unexplained things around Beth, the biggest ones being unexplained stuff that happened the Grady, and of course those missing 17 days after Coda.
Tumblr media
I also thought it was interesting that he that they juxtaposed Carl’s words with Morgan's brutality. I’ll come back to this, but we could see Carl's goodness and transcendence and then they put it side-by-side with Morgan and his cold, rage-driven killing.
Carl talked about 3x16! Guys, this is huge! We some of the dialogue in the trailer, so I’ve already touched on this when it comes to callbacks to S4, but him talking about 3x16 is pretty much a confirmation everything I wrote in my Beth Greene was Always Gimpel's Sheriff post, and a lot of the stuff both me and @thegloriouscollectorlady have been talking about lately. Carl talked about shooting the Woodbury kid in 3x16.
Tumblr media
Not only was Beth present, which we would read into any way, but more importantly, it's what led to Rick becoming a farmer and the entire arc in 4a. I'll talk a lot more about this later this week, but we’re seeing major story arcs from S4 come full circle this season. It’s extremely significant and it makes me super happy.
Carl gives Judith the hat. I don’t think I need to tell everyone how significant that was. The sheriff will live on, specifically in the little one that Beth always took care of. I remember back when 5x10 first aired, I noted that Carl took care of Judith. He even used the sheriff's hat to protect her from the rain.
So Beth took care of Judith most of her life. When she disappeared Carl stepped in that role more fully, taking on Judah's care almost entirely while they were on the road. I feel like they tried to have Carl specifically step into that role, which Beth previous occupied. Now they put the sheriff's hat on Judith, who has only ever been worn by few other characters. (Rick, Carl, Beth)
Tumblr media
Now Daryl has assumed the role. We knew he would bc of the trailer, but it’s significant that his attitude wasn’t one of sadness about taking Judith. It wasn't something he had to do, it was something he wanted to do. He was very firm and confident about it. He picked up Judith, sheriff's hat and all, and, wearing his vest, walked out with her. I thought it was really interesting the way the camera focused on his back. We can almost see this is a return to S4 Daryl. He's confident and strong, he's got his best back, and he's caring for the "new sheriff." So we don't know exactly where this will lead, but symbolically it's very significant.
Remember those wings have always marked him as a guardian and protector, which is why, symbolically, he needed to regain the vest before he took over protecting Judith.
Finally, Carl actually died with the sunrise.
Tumblr media
So now we’ve gotten through the night, and we have a new day. There were several parallels to Andrea's death. Carl shot himself, rather than waiting to succumb to the fever. The other thing I noticed is that Rick and Michonne stood outside on the porch and heard the shot. That's almost exactly what happened with Andrea's death. Even though Michonne stayed with Andrea, will the viewers didn't see her shoot herself. We saw Daryl and the others outside the door and their devastated reactions to hearing the shot.
Tumblr media
So what does this mean for TD? I hope it means that with this new day we’ll see Beth next episode. I also want to point out that Andrea's that happened in 3x16, which was mentioned here a lot. Almost like they’re trying to align this episode with 3x16. In the next episode, 4x01, we got the Bethyl hug. So I’m really, really hoping, that we’ll get at least the beginning of Beth’s return in the next episode.
Siddiq
Siddiq is a freaking doctor! That, we did not see coming. In the comic books, Siddiq is a fisherman and a construction worker, not a doctor. This is something they are doing for the show. We don't see any evidence that he knows how to cure bites, but he did talk about treating one, at least insofar as reducing the fever and making the patient more comfortable. He’s the first person we’ve ever heard talk about treating a bite at all. That’s a big deal. We need to watch this story line closely.
Tumblr media
Honoring Carl. Siddiq talked about honoring Carl. He said because Carl saved him, he would honor Carl by doing whatever he could to help TF. We don't know exactly why yet, but from the trailer, he, Daryl and Rosita go on a mission that takes them through the swamp. So whatever Siddiq is up to, he thinks it will help TF in some. I repeat, I really think something about Siddiq will both bring Beth back into the picture, and perhaps help TF win the war. That's why Carl’s sacrifice will be worth it.
Tumblr media
The last time we heard a lot of talk about honoring someone was right after Beth's death. To honor Beth, Rick wanted to take Noah home to Virginia. And he did. @thegloriouscollectorlady pointed out that while there's definitely a parallel here, it's kind of an anti-parallel. In S5, TF honored Beth by taking a in stranger (Noah) and doing something for them, because it's what Beth wanted. In S8, the stranger (Siddiq) is going to honor Carl by helping TF. So it's the same thing, but in reverse. With that being the case, let's hope we see the reverse of Coda next. Like this represents 5x09 and perhaps were moving backward toward Coda and the opposite result.
Carol and Henry. I had a major epiphany during this episode. In THIS POST I said that in order for Carol's arc to resolve, she needed to figure out how to love and nurture another child as she did Sophia. Last night, I realized I’m missing one big element. Henry kill Gavin, which was disturbing. Go back and watch that scene. Watch the reaction of all the adults. Ezekiel was merely shocked. Carol was so horrified she turned away for a minute. Morgan looked like he might throw up.
Tumblr media
While it’s understandable because he obviously holds Gavin responsible for Benjamin’s death, the way the show portrayed this was as something very dark. It came across as a callback to Lizzie, who also had no problem killing the living. It’s like they’re trying to say Henry is straying onto a dark path. Carol wouldn’t be able to help but think of Lizzie when this happened, which is why she was so angry at him, and Ezekiel couldn’t understand. So, it's not just a matter of her loving the child, but her saving him from becoming like Lizzie. She failed with Lizzie. She should've seen what was wrong and didn't, but perhaps she will with Henry.
I’ll talk about this more later in the week as well, but for now, it’s important that Carol, Ezekiel and Morgan were there. We’ve thought since S7 that Carol and Ezekiel will be parents to Henry, but it’s interesting that Morgan is entangled in this too. He and Carol both lost biological children, specifically because they failed to save them (a theme between Rick and Carl in this episode). Now these three adults all saw Henry kill a man. It doesn’t matter whether or not Gavin deserved it. The point is that Henry did it without hesitation and wasn’t as bothered by it as he should have been. That’s not good. So now these three need to figure out how to save Henry in the same way Rick saved Carl in 4a.
The two, final “shocking” scenes we hoped would be Beth. I'm pretty sure the one the blogger referred to is the one that showed Negan at Alexandria. That's what she meant about the future. It was part of Carl’s vision and shows that he wants Negan to actually become part of the community, integrate with Alexandria and have everyone work together.
Tumblr media
Sorry to keep saying this, but I will do a separate post on how significant this is, especially where S4 is concerned. I don't know that Negan will ever actually integrate into TF’s community the way Carl wants, but this will most definitely drive the plot forward for Rick.
The second scene is still very unexplained. Remember that in 8x01, we saw two flashes forward: Rick’s old man coda (which I now have to call Carl's) and then the one where Rick’s eyes are red-rimmed and the plate-glass crosses hang above him. We always figured that might be Carl's funeral. It's not. They buried Carl in this episode, and then showed that scene separately. It’s definitely not the same thing.
Tumblr media
Rick sits against a tree, bleeding from a wound on his ribs. He has blood all over his hand. Honestly, it looks like a scene where he could be dying. (I still don't think he actually will; I feel like they’re trying to make us believe that. I could be wrong, of course.)
I had a somewhat disturbing thought while re-watching last night. Perhaps Rick will try and make nice with Negan to fulfill Carl's best wishes, and Negan will betray him by either stabbing or shooting him in the ribs. Maybe that's what we’re seeing in this scene. That would explain why he says, "my mercy prevailed over my wrath." It sounds like he's very resigned to his own death. It's like he's saying, “well, at least I was merciful, as Carl wanted.” This is just me musing over what it might be. We really have no idea.
I've never thought that Rick would die, and still don't. But remember THIS POST about Dawn's back story and how it's going to relate to Beth's future arc. Dawn actually killed Capt. Hanson. I’ve always said Beth won’t do that, because she's a much better person than Dawn. But maybe it's not about Beth killing Rick. Maybe someone else will either kill him or try to. Whether he's dead or just severely incapacitated, someone else will have to step into leadership. Based on the back story and foreshadowing surrounding Beth at Grady, it will be her. Either way, it would be tied to Carl, Carl's death, and Carl's last wishes. But again, this is just conjecture.
Overall, I really loved this episode. I thought it was beautiful. All the symbolism in it, which I'll go over in more detail tomorrow, makes me as hopeful as ever for TD. What did everyone else think?

Entry #1: I miss Michael Scott.
I know that nobody cares about what I think (Neither do I tbh), but I’m going to start venting on this platform occasionally because I feel like it, even though nobody is gonna read this. Hope y’all don’t mind. I don’t know why I just wrote that. I’ve never said y’all in my life. I recently moved to the South (kinda) so everyone here always says y’all and I want to fit in and say it too, but I feel like it would just be awkward as hell coming out of my mouth.  Anyways, so I was supposed to be working on an assignment tonight for class that’s due tomorrow, but I procrastinated for 4 weeks. Nothing new there. I always procrastinate. Always. I have quite a few bad habits, but procrastinating is definitely my worst. However, I’m not trying to brag, but I’m pretty sure I do my best work when I’m under pressure. Back to to the story though. Is it even a story? I don’t think so. I’m just rambling. But whatever. So, I was supposed to be working on an assignment that I should have started ages ago, but I really didn’t want to do it, so I put The Office on. I’ve been a fan of The Office for ages. However, I’ve only seen like 3 or 4 episodes from the seasons after Michael left. I just struggled so badly to get through it. I felt like a piece of me was gone. Michael was my friend. He made me laugh whenever I was sad or lonely (or procrastinating). I know that Michael wasn’t the best role model, but I did relate to him quite a bit. He just wanted to feel like he belonged. He was an outsider. However, throughout the series you can see that even though he wasn’t Mr. Popular, he was certainly loved. Although his coworkers didn’t always show it, they cared for him. I think the moment in the show that this notion really sets in is during the episode that Michael finally leaves and Pam runs after him and they just hug. A lot of the time the characters didn’t always treat Michael the best. He was always the butt of the joke. They never were laughing with him. Always at him. They would do anything to get out of having dinner with him (*cough* Pam and Jim *cough*). Nobody really showed that they cared if they ever saw him again, until that episode he left. People always say you never know what you had until it’s gone, and this episode really demonstrates that idea perfectly. I think Pam regretted how she treated Michael sometimes and that moment she hugged him she realized that she was going to miss him, but he deserved to be happy so she was going to let him go. I think they all realized that day how much they cared for Michael. They weren’t best friends that hung out all the time on the weekends, but they were a family. A dysfunctional, crazy, loving family. So, even though Michael seemed to not fit in, he did, because family sticks together. It doesn’t matter if you’re different. Your family loves you for who you are. And this is what leads me to tonight. As I mentioned before, after that devastating, emotional rollercoaster of an episode, I kind of stopped watching The Office. It was too painful. Until this evening when for some crazy reason I decided that putting on the very last episode of the series would be a great idea. It was a little bit under an hour long, so that was exciting. What was even more exciting was the fact that Michael came back. I mean, I kind of figured that would happen. However, I was devastated with the lack of footage containing him. He was in it maybe 5 minutes. That’s it. This was the ending of one of the greatest shows of time, and Michael was a major part of the series. When they were reminicing about their times at the office, Michael was barely in any flashbacks and it angers me. It angers me because Michael was a critical part of everyone’s lives. He helped shape them into who they are today, and I just don’t understand why he wasn’t given the credit he deserves. He kind of was just pushed to the side this episode. The last time you see him is about halfway through the episode at Dwight’s wedding. He’s laughing and smiling. He’s finally happy. He deserves to be happy. I suppose this could be a reason as to why they left things the way they were because he already had his closure. He had his happy ending. There’s no point in saying goodbye twice. I guess they didn’t want to make the episode about him, especially since he hadn’t been in the past two seasons at all. It still hurts though. It still hurt seeing everyone together in the last few scenes of the episode sitting in the office, just like old times. Except Michael wasn’t there. He wasn’t with his work family that he watched grow up. He was living his life with his new family. Taking all this in honestly made me sob like a baby and I don’t think I’m going to get over the ending of this brilliant series for a very long time. Thank you for letting me ramble. Maybe I’ll do it again sometime in the future.

BLACK SAILS SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 - IX - EPISODE REVIEW
BEST FLINT MOMENT
Annoyed that Silver of all people volunteered to take the ship with him, Flint insults his only partner, takes off his shoes, and starts swimming to take the Man O’ War all by his goddamn self.  His insane determination is so charismatic, and no one can resist its pull.  Least of all Silver, who sighs and takes off his jacket to follow.
TODAY’S RUNNER UP
Silver!  The partnership between Flint and Silver that began in 108 is flourishing here.  They are SUCH a great team.  Despite being so different (or because of it), they work together incredibly well, filling in each other’s weak spots and pushing each other to do more and be better.  For MUCH more flailing about their scenes together, head down to the Fragmented Thoughts section.
LOL MOMENT
This is such a funny episode!  The dynamic of Desperate Silver trying to win over No Fucks Left to Give Flint is constantly hilarious, culminating in the truly masterful scene in which both of them are caught by the Spanish crew.  Just minutes after assuring Flint that he has no reason to distrust him, Silver sells him out in exchange for gold and freedom.  Flint’s face goes gloriously twitchy as he chair-hops over to murder Silver with…his face?
Silver bails, and then RETURNS TO THE RESCUE!  Flint gives Silver a quick strategy lesson, at which point:
Silver:  So I actually have to fight him? Flint:  Well, what the fuck did you think was gonna happen?
Silver’s face, and Flint’s voice crack of exasperation KILL ME.  Like, mad cackling into my hands at these fools.  I love them so much.
WELL-FORMED THOUGHTS
We get our first flashbacks to Flint’s past, and I am here for it.  Finally, after a season of watching a man pursue a vision so fiercely that it compels him to murder his closest friend, we are starting to find out what led him here.
It is in these flashbacks that we see a very different Flint – in fact, in 1705 that’s not his name at all, but James McGraw.  He’s very cleaned up and VERY attractive, and in his conversations with Thomas Hamilton, we see his role reversed.  Thomas is the idealistic one with plans for redeeming Nassau, and James is the one declaring how impossible that plan is.
We also get our first glimpse at Civilization proper, a London of beautiful buildings, clean clothes, and nice manners.  As per the show’s theme, the ugly underbelly of this facade is quickly revealed when James takes Thomas to view a pirate hanging.  He knows that piracy flourishes because it benefits the British empire to create a monstrous enemy to fight against (“Civilization must have its monsters.”)  In order to eradicate piracy, the empire must change, and James doesn’t believe this is possible.
Their conversations reveal another theme: complementary partners.  Thomas is idealistic but with no experience (he’s never even been to a pirate hanging before, despite his deep interest in the pirates of Nassau).  James has a lot of experience, but no ideals.  Time will tell how this partnership will work out, as it will also address the success of the present-day complementary partnership between Flint and Silver.
FRAGMENTED THOUGHTS
Another season opener, another pirate boarding from the perspective of the boarded merchant vessel.  Contrasted with season 1, however, this one is very ominous and silent, since the merchant captain is prepared to surrender peacefully.  I love his assertion that pirates are “men, not monsters,” and in most cases he would be right.  But unfortunately this episode introduces us to Ned Lowe, a madman who terrifies me and slaughters everyone for the prize of a mysterious woman connected to “Lord Ashe.”
I love the look of annoyance on Flint’s face as he stares at the Man O’ War.  You can literally see him thinking, “Well, shit, I’ve just had a brilliant idea.  I guess I can’t let them kill me just yet.”
“Even if it weren’t for the soldiers, even if it weren’t for the guns, there’s a fucking warship watching over every inch of the bay.  A fucking warship that has already killed half your number, a fucking warship that would prevent any approach to that beach via the sea.  There’s simply no way of stealing that gold.  But there might be something else you can steal.  The fucking warship.”
Everyone HATES Flint, and it is amazing to watch them fight against how annoying it is that he is still so brilliant.
In our first flashback we get so much information about James McGraw/Flint!  He’s “a son of a carpenter.  No record of any formal schooling and yet, more literate than any three boys I knew at Eton.  You are a rising star with a bright future in the Admiralty.”  Our man James is meritocracy personified, fighting his way up the ranks through sheer brilliance.
Eleanor and Vane are still trying to prove who’s on top.  Vane’s line about “If your friends aren’t capable of protecting themselves, I’d argue that they aren’t worth protecting” is VERY essential to his character.  He’s attracted to strength, and has no time for weakness.
I’m less enamored with his constant attempts to make Eleanor see how similar they are.  While they definitely share strength and an attraction to it, he’s wrong about her priorities.  He wants her to be as in-the-moment and selfish as he is, but her desire for profit includes a desire for peace.  I love her outburst, “Stop telling me what you think I think!”  Yeah, girl.  Be your own self.
The scene between Flint and Silver alone on the beach is one of my all time favorites!  “You shit.”  “Um.  Beg pardon?”  LAUGHING FOREVER.  Silver’s genuine surprise that Flint intends to singlehandedly take a Spanish Man O’ War, and Flint’s genuine surprise that Silver is surprised.  I love them!
During the flashback to the pirate hanging, Flint gives his oft-quoted speech that ends with “in most cases a man trying to change the world fails for one simple and unavoidable reason: everyone else.”  Which makes me wonder:  SHOULD a person change the world if no one else wants it?  Who gets to determine which causes are worth changing the world for?
Poor Jack.  “I used my wits to build the name.  Jesus Christ, what’s become of my name?”  He’s being beaten, pissed on, and called “Jack Rackham, Crew Killer.”  Poor Jack.
Flint:  You almost got us killed! Silver:  Almost.  Almost! … Silver:  You are truly amazing, you know that?  We’re both better off now than we were two minutes ago, yet you’re angry about it because it didn’t happen your way.  Might you consider for a fucking moment that your distrust of me is completely unwarranted?  I warned you about Billy.  Was I right?  I found you over Mr. Gates’s body, and did I do anything but defend you?  When you were sinking to the bottom of the sea, who do you imagine it was who dragged you onto that beach?  Brace yourself, but I’m the only person within a hundred miles of here who doesn’t want to see you dead.
Eleanor is such a good businesswoman, dealing with bloody cargo and unhappy quartermasters, confronting the brothel crew about leaked information.  Max super doesn’t care, and I think enjoys showing Eleanor how much power she now has.
Max is hella brave. She’s obviously genuinely afraid of Anne, but she trusts her instincts enough to know that Anne’s anger is rooted in something deeper than resentment.  The confidence it must take to kiss someone who has you at knifepoint on the assumption that they are secretly attracted to women is amazing.  At this point, I’m a little sad for Jack.  This is not his episode.
The FANTASTIC scene where Silver rescues Flint through being a coward!  And after they save each other back and forth, they barricade themselves with three pistols, Flint’s sword, and Silver’s…tiny knife.  Hahaha, this episode is seriously so funny!
And then the Walrus crew comes to their rescue!  Yay!  And they sail away in their fancy new Man O’ War.
Ugh, I hate that Ned Lowe is actually pretty charismatic.  AND TERRIFYING, YIKES, that speech about how he feels no remorse about the horrific things he does?  Yikes yikes yikes, I don’t like him.
Another flashback, and we see James meet Miranda for the first time!  They form the Thomas Appreciation Club while watching him give money to a poor mother and son.  Flint is still unsure whether Thomas’s amazingness is for real, but Miranda assures him it is.
“Great men aren’t made by politics, Lieutenant McGraw.  They aren’t made great by prudence or propriety.  They are, every last one of them, made great by one thing and one thing only: the relentless pursuit of a better world.  The great men don’t give up that pursuit.  They don’t know how.  And that is what makes them invincible.”
Flint is seeming pretty invincible in this episode, surviving a crew’s rage and taking over an enemy ship.  Does this mean he’s a great man?
The last scene between Flint and Silver is one of my favorite things that they do:  honestly tell each other their motivations and concerns about the other.  Silver tells Flint that he would have betrayed him had their interests not aligned.  He is clearly in awe of Flint, but he doesn’t pretend that this makes him a blind follower.  And I think Flint appreciates this, both the being known (hell yeah, he’s going to take back his captaincy) and the being honest.

CHAPTER ELEVEN : One Hell Of A Panel
Lily was about to leave her room to go to the Hilton when someone knocked on her door weakly.
It couldn't be Misha, the convention already started... so it probably wasn't Ty either. Or was it?
She opened the door and was stunned when she came face to face with Misha's mother.
“Oh my god, Rebecca! I didn't even know you were here! Misha didn't tell me! I'm so happy to see you!”
She stepped forward and hugged her before letting her in.
“That's the point, sweetie. It's supposed to be a surprise.”
“Oh, he doesn't know you're here either?” “Yes, he does. I just talked to him before he left for the convention. The surprise is actually for you too. Do you know what day it is today?”
Lily smiled, a little confused.
“Uh... yeah... may 12th.”
She scratched her mind to find a particular reason why Rebecca would be here on this date, but couldn't find any. Her birthday was in June.
Misha's mother stood before Lily and took her hands in hers, looking at her closely.
“It's mother's day, sweetheart.”
Lily gasped silently, and she almost fell when she had the sensation that the ground opened under her feet.
She forgot... It was not like she could still celebrate it anyway.
“Oh... Right. We probably should hurry so you can go back to Misha then. Is Sasha here too?”
“No, Sasha couldn't make it, and Misha's busy, I'm not here just for him today, I'm here for you. I know it's been a while, but you've been part of my life for years, and your mother was the best friend I ever had. I always thought about you as the girl I always wanted but never had, and even if I can never replace the mother you lost, now that she's gone, I think she would like for me to take care of you. Today is probably the best date to start... If you want it, of course.”
And once again, Lily couldn't hold her tears back. She sure had cried a lot since the Krushnic family came back in her life, but these were happy tears.
Sure she still felt a hint of sadness because she inevitably thought about her dead mother who couldn't be here with her today, but Rebecca probably just gave her the best gift she would ever have: a substitute mother.
And she truly was. Even when her mom was still alive, Rebecca was like her second mother, always here for her, always ready to help her when she couldn't turn to her own mom, always having her back when something was up with Misha.
Lily buried herself in Rebecca's arms and cried.
“Of course I want it.” She sniffed. “I can't believe you're doing this.”
“And I can't believe it took me so long to do it.”
Rebecca kissed the top of her head and broke their embrace.
“How about we start by breakfast?”
Lily smiled, wiping her face.
“Great idea. I'm starving.”
They took their time to have breakfast at the hotel, and they left when Misha sent a text to Lily asking her if she would be here for his panel. She replied 'sure', and they hurried to go to the Hilton, arriving just on time for his morning solo panel. When they entered the panel's room, he was answering a fan who wanted him to say something in Russian. She instantly was reminded of the times Misha pretended to be a Russian student so he could go some places for free... He obviously knew how to act pretty early.
The next fan didn't have a question, she just wanted to thank him about something called “Gishwish” or something, which of course she had absolutely no idea of what it was, but it picked her curiosity, Misha was very serious during the whole time the fan spoke, as she told him about her team raising money to free a woman and her daughter from their abusive home. He tried to joke about it at one moment, but Lily could tell he was kinda touched by her story anyway. She would have to ask him about that thing for sure.
Of course, after that, the questions about the show started to fuse, but Misha winced to one fan who had a very strong accent so he didn't understand her very well... and this is where the craziest and funniest part began.
After a little while trying to understand her question, he gave up and asked for a volunteer from the audience to come and translate the question for him. A fan came up on stage to help him, and Lily thought it was the previous fan who asked him to speak Russian.
Actually... Lily didn't understand the damn question either! She thought maybe it was because she just didn't know anything about the show or the characters, but obviously she wasn't the only one being lost.
The 'translator' tried to rephrase the question.
“She said that uuh, you know the scene when Dean and Cas talk, and uuh, Castiel tells Dean that this is not what happened because uuuh, Dean thought that Castiel was left behind in purgatory, not because of his fault...”
The fan paused when she saw Misha wincing again and hid his face in his hands, and they both cracked up laughing, realizing this didn't make sense at all.
The poor girl apologized, but Misha said it was good before asking for another person to come for help, to translate what the translator was trying to actually translate for him... Boy was it confusing! Lily was very amused at this point, and knowing Misha pretty well, she knew he could toy with that for a while!
A second fan came up on stage and tried to help... Except she was a bit confused too and asked for the first fan to repeat the question. It was a huge mess when the original fan, who was still down next to the stage waiting patiently, said something in the microphone and Misha interrupted.
“Hey hey! I'm sorry, we're working on this question right now, please wait your turn!”
He turned to the first volunteer and asked her to tell in Russian what the other girl was trying to say in English, so the second volunteer could finally translate in English to him.
Lily had cramps in her cheeks, she couldn't stop giggling at this point.
The Russian fan started to tell the question in Russian, while Misha was holding the mic to her face, joking and mimicking like he was getting it, and the second girl was nodding, obviously understanding the question. This seemed good, they were finally getting somewhere.
That was until the second fan asked to Misha: “What do you want me to say?”.
Of course everybody laughed, and Misha asked her to translate for him, but the poor girl was lost and Lily had to hold her stomach when she asked “to translate what?”.
Just when she thought they were about to make it, everything crashed down, it was just hilarious.
The second fan asked in what language she should translate, and of course Misha, who had no microphone at this point anymore, first replied she had to translate in English, but then asked her what other languages she could speak. The young blond woman said she could speak English and french too, and Misha's face lighted up.
"Oh great! So we can call Sebastian so he can translate from french what you said in Russian so you can finally say it to me in English!"
The crowd cheered but a few of them yelled "He's doing photo ops!", pointing at the big screen behind him.
Lily facepalmed, she knew he was about to call another fan to come up on stage and help them. This was such a huge mess!
But he didn't exactly call a fan...
"OH! Lily are you in the audience? We need some help here!" He called. Lily's eyes widened and she turned to Rebecca who had a huge smile on her face, but she didn't move... He had to be kidding! Except he wasn't and when he finally spotted her, standing next to the exit door with his mom, he ran down the stage, took her hand, and despite the horrified look on her face and her several vain attempts to get away from him, they climbed the stairs and were back on stage in a second. "Come on, you're used to be on stage, don't pretend you hate it." I'm gonna kill him. He'll be dead for good this time. Of course she was used to be on stage... Hiding behind her instrument and drowned in the crowd of her colleagues, with no freaking huge microphone pointing at her face!!
"This is actually a great opportunity! You guys remember the young lady sleeping gracefully in the plane? Someone tagged me on Twitter about it." "Yeahhh!" They all screamed in unison. "Well, here she is, it's Lily, she's an old friend of mine, and if I'm correct, considering the look on her face, she is right now planning to kill me. Am I right?" He pointed his damn mic at her again. "Absolutely!"
He laughed and the audience did the same. He placed Lily between him and the Russian fan and pointed his finger at the other girl. "So... Miss, can you please ask the question in french to Lily, who will hopefully translate in English for me... Though she hasn't watched a single episode of Supernatural and has no idea what the hell we're talking about." The crowd went wild at his comment, booing and hooting all they could, kicking their feet on the ground to make more noise. Misha glanced at Lily and winked, he looked so proud of himself that she almost wanted to take the mic from him and tell them the most embarrassing story ever... She would seriously have to think about one! He really needed a severe punishment! "Alright, alright, calm down. She promised she would catch up soon." Misha explained, trying to calm the audience. “Right, Lily?”
He held his mic close to her face again, and he knew perfectly she hated it. So she answered...
“Yes, Ty proposed to help. I guess I'll have to accept his generous offer.”
She was so satisfied of herself at that moment! When she devilishly stared at Misha who couldn't show anything in front of his fans, but Lily could see the defiance in his eyes. He licked and bit his lips, obviously refraining from replying something stingy.
He finally had no choice but to give up so he turned to the fan ready to ask the question one more time. "Okay, go ahead." She faced Lily who was listening carefully. "Alors, uhh... Dean pensait qu'il avait abandonné Cas au purgatoire... Parce qu'il a lâché sa main... Mais en fait c'était juste le choix de Cas de rester au purgatoire. Je crois qu'elle veut savoir pourquoi Cas avait l'air si surpris que Dean soit si surpris quand il lui a dit que Cas voulait rester au purgatoire." Lily's eyes slowly widened as she was listening the question, and she laughed weakly (and nervously) when she turned to look at Misha who had a huge smile on his face, obviously trying not to giggle. "All my hopes are in you, Lily."
Oh God, she wasn't even sure what it was all about, so she decided to simply translate what she heard, and hopefully that would make sense for him. "Umm okay... She wants to know why Cas was so surprised that... Dean was so surprised..." Lily paused when he snorted, holding her giggles too now. "...When Cas..." She looked at the fan for confirmation, just to be sure she was using the right names at the right time. "… Told him he wanted to stay in purgatory." Misha's smile persisted and he burst out laughing when the fan who originally asked the question said "Yes!" in her microphone, full of hope.
Misha looked at Lily with a serious face.
"Okay, okay, I get it, why Cas was so surprised... Surprised about what?”
Lily hid her face in her hands, laughing even more.
“About Dean who was so surprised that Cas was surprised that-” She burst out laughing and Misha took the mic away from her.
“See, this little exercise was to demonstrate to you how difficult this acting business is. It's very confusing because there's multiple characters and you have to remember which one you're playing, and how surprised you are! By the way... was Cas really as surprised as you guys are all saying?”
They all replied “Yeah!”, so he added “Wasn't it more like... '      Really you don't remember?    '” He looked at Lily with a puzzled look.
“Why the hell are you looking at me, how am I supposed to know?”
They were interrupted by the poor and hopeless fan who originally asked the question, still standing behind her microphone, who suddenly started to talk but Misha wouldn't let her, and asked her to come up on stage too, estimating there were not enough people with him.
She explained to him what she really wanted to know, and after reenacting the scene together, he just realized it all started because of a tiny eyelid twitch.
That was too much for Lily who burst out laughing and giggled uncontrollably, bending over and holding her stomach, still on stage next to the two 'volunteers' who were now laughing too.
Misha turned to look at her, pleased to see her having so much fun.
“Don't worry, she must think she stepped into crazyland... it's cute, she doesn't even know it 's only the beginning.”
Eventually, she calmed down after a little while and Misha said to the first fan that he wanted her to leave satisfied, so he tried to seriously answer her question, but he just couldn't stop laughing, so he knelt on stage, giving up, and someone brought him a huge inflatable hammer that he used to hit his own head in defeat.
He got up and said that after that fiasco, she would now definitely be scared to talk in public. He then thanked her and the other fans who tried to help before they left the stage, and when Lily started to walk away, he grabbed her wrist.
“Where do you think you're going, miss Hagen?”
So the torture wasn't done obviously... And seeing the mischievous look in his eyes, she could tell he was ready to get his revenge for the comment she made about Ty.
“I'm leaving to let you do your job. People are waiting...” She tried.
There were indeed a lot of people waiting in line to ask questions, but Misha wasn't decided to let her go so fast.
“They are... And they probably want to know more about you too now!”
She shook her head no but the audience cheered to notify Misha was actually right.
Why would they want to know about her? They were all here for Misha! She was nobody!
“So here is what we're going to do: you're gonna sit in my chair right here, and I'll explain to them who you are, because I know they will love that story.”
She sighed but complied, sitting in the stool in the center of the stage while Misha brought a microphone for her too.
“Okay, so some of you maybe remember that time I talked about that guy I met when I was nine doing my paper routes?”
A few people yelled “Yes!”, and Misha went on.
“Yes, Mr Hagen, the old man who helped me and my family during hard times, and I couldn't hold it and teared up on stage when I told you he died when I came to his house to bring Christmas presents.”
Silence fell, and Lily could almost physically feel the emotion building in the room now. She didn't intervene and let him talk, looking down at the microphone in her hand.
“You also remember the time I told you my house burned so that's why I didn't have a lot of pictures of me when I was young?”
Again, people said yes, and Lily wondered one more time why the hell he was telling all those things to strangers.
“Good. So it wasn't exactly my house, I was living there but it was her family's place, and she's actually Mr Hagen's grand-daughter.”
He just threw it like that, and the audience applauded and cheered loudly.
“Long story short, I won't give you that much detail but the thing is... I thought she died in that fire, and she thought I died in that fire too, so we were super surprised when we accidentally bumped into each other a couple weeks ago at the airport.”
He made eye contact with Lily and she could see the hint of emotion on his face, so she smiled at him weakly.
“Another fun thing... I apparently got so old and changed so much that she didn't recognize me right away and I had to literally prove to her that I was me... which was weird to be honest.”
She laughed and put her hand on her mouth, remembering what was probably the weirdest night of her life.
“So yeah... Since I told you about her grandfather I thought you would like to know I had reasons to tear up remembering him and his family, but now she's here and I think I will never be able to thank her enough for...”
He stopped and looked away when he started to tear up once again.
Lily would break soon too if he couldn’t hold it back. She tried to be strong in front of so many people though; she just smiled and looked down.
Misha sighed, and after a little while he just walked towards her and gave her a tight hug, resting his chin on her shoulder, in front of the fans that were in total awe. It was a very intimate gesture, as she was still sitting on the stool, she kinda had to spread her legs to allow him access, but she didn't care, she just hugged him back, knowing he did it for a lot of reasons, especially to apologize for being a dick with her this morning.
He pulled away, exhaled and wiped his face quickly, apologizing to his fans for being weak again.
“Alright... we should go on with the questions, this is getting ridiculous.”
Lily tried to sneak away one more time.
“Can I go now?”
Misha laughed and talked in his high pitched voice, mocking her shamelessly.
“Can I go now, Sir? Was I good enough?”
Everybody cheered and laughed. Misha was clearly toying with her... once again she mentally swore to God he would pay for all of this.
“Nope, you can't. You'll finish this panel with me whether you like it or not. Sit.”
She closed her eyes and sighed while sitting back on the stool. Someone brought another chair and Misha sat next to her, looking at the fan on the right of the stage, nodding so she would ask her question, which was why he always talks about West but not enough about Maison, so he started to joke about the fact that babies don't do anything and eventually ended up talking about poop, before turning to his left, facing a male fan for another question.
“So umm... I had a question about Cas but... now you made us all curious about the woman next to you... so I actually have a question for her, if you don’t mind.”
“Sure! Go ahead. But be nice.” Misha cleared his throat and the man turned his eyes to Lily.
“Hi. I was just wondering if you're free to go grab a drink after the panel.”
Lily's mouth opened wide and she laughed as the audience went wild again. Misha had bold fans for sure, and she didn't complain, the guy was handsome and regarding to his accent, he was Italian, which was even better! It was obviously not a serious question though, the guy had a teasing smile plastered on his face.
Misha was expressionless and turned to look at Lily who was trying (but failing) to hide the huge smile on her face, clearly amused by the situation. She pulled the mic up to her face but Misha interrupted, not letting her talk.
“God, we can't go anywhere without men hitting on you, can we?”
He looked back at the fan who asked the question.
“Are you Italian?”
“Yes.”
“Well... I'm afraid I can't allow that, Italians are too touchy.”
The crowd cheered, but the guy didn't give up so easily.
“Does she need your permission?”
A horde of “Awws” and “Oohs” resonated in the room. Everybody knew Misha could be kinda sharp when he felt attacked on stage, so they all waited for the bitter answer he would throw back at the cheeky man, but Lily talked first.
“No, she doesn't!” She replied looking into Misha's eyes, raising her eyebrows with a look who clearly meant “BAM!”
Misha was stuck, he knew he couldn't reveal to the world that they used to be more than friends and that he threw a jealousy tantrum this morning about the exact same kind of situation.
He tried to turn the flavor though...
“Well... your funeral. She bites a lot and she snores like a chainsaw.”
He laughed, but soon stopped when the man replied once again.
“I don't mind a few bites.”
Silence...
Lily realized Misha was getting a little annoyed and could say things he would regret later, so she helped.
“He's making things up, I'm an angel!”
People laughed and Misha moved on quickly.
“Yep, an angel that doesn't go out with strange Italian guys who have no manners. Next question!” And he turned to look at the other side of the stage, ignoring the guy to nod at a female fan so she could ask her question.
“Hi... actually umm... I also have a question about your friend, if that's ok...”
Lily snorted and couldn't shut up anymore when she saw Misha rolling his eyes. “Are you regretting keeping me here yet?”
They exchanged an impish smile and the fan interrupted.
“No, no, I just wanted to know... You said she was an old friend, so I wonder if you have some fun childhood stories you could share with us like you do with Darius!”
That made Lily frown and she looked at Misha with a questioning look.
“Darius? Our Darius?”
“Yes. That Darius.”
“Oh my! I didn't know he was still around!”
“He is! We'll have to go see him one of these days.”
That reminded him of the story he told the day before at the club, but naturally he couldn’t talk about that on stage.
“You know that Lily's teachers were terrified when they saw her with me and Darius near her school? They always wondered what kind of shit we were plotting. Truth is, we didn't go to the same school, but me and Darius were constantly sneaking in her school to mess with her friends... and her teachers too.”
“God I had so much trouble because of you two!”
Misha laughed, actually proud of himself.
“I do have some story about that, I told Jensen and the guys just yesterday actually, but... I'm afraid it's not quite appropriate... I don't think I can tell you that story...” He turned to look at Lily.
Naturally, the crowd cheered to encourage him to talk.
“Indeed, you can’t.” Lily confirmed firmly.
He better not!
“It’s a pretty funny story, though. They would like it.”
“No.” was all she answered, but she threw a very meaningful look at Misha to make him understand he should shut up and change the subject.
“Alright, how about a cute story then?”
She gave him a suspicious look, raising an eyebrow. He searched for his phone in his pocket and showed her a picture of him when he was a kid, his face completely distorted by bloody wounds.
She had a recoil movement.
“Remember that day?”
“You call that a cute story? God look at your face! Of course I remember.”
Misha stood up and went down the stage, placing his phone in front of the main camera for everybody to see.
“You guys remember when I posted this on Twitter?”
Everybody said ‘yes’, and Misha jumped on stage and sat back next to Lily.
“I think I can tell you more about it now. I just told you it was a bike accident.”
“It was.” Lily pointed out, not really sure what he wanted to tell them. She remembered that day vividly. She had the fear of her life.
“Oh, it was more than that, it was also the day we sealed our friendship. That’s what it felt to me, at least.”
She frowned, not knowing what he meant. “Okay, now I’m curious too.”
Misha cleared his throat and settled back on his chair.
“We were what… ten? Eleven?”
“Something like that, yeah.”
“It’s actually a good story to tell today, it was the father’s day weekend if I recall correctly.”
“Mmhmm…” Lily hummed and sent a quick look at Rebecca who was now sitting at the end of the front row.
“Our moms were already good friends at the time, but we didn’t even go to the same school, we were just hanging out to her grandparent’s place twice a week and that was it. I wanted to find something to do to keep her mind busy that weekend, though. Her father had died a few months before, and I just didn’t want her to stay at home thinking about it, so what’s best than a bike ride to clear your mind, right?”
Smartass    . He never told her that was the reason why he invited her for a bike ride. She’d thought he was the one who actually needed to clear his mind on father’s day. She knew he was always sad every time he thought about his father being so absent.
“Anyway, we rode to the park near her house, it’s a very nice place in the nature, with lots of trees, a beautiful river, waterfalls, beaches and we just liked going there a lot. We sat on a bench to drink before going back home, when the ‘cool’ rich and dumb kids of my school walked towards us, thinking it was a good thing to tease me a little more in front of my female friend.”
The audience was very quiet. It was a heavy topic in the Supernatural fandom. Misha never hid the fact he had been bullied at school, just like Jared, but he never really gave any details nor had he told any specific stories about it.
“No need for details, but of course I didn’t want to look like an idiot in front of her, so I tried to reply to their harsh words as best as I could, which they didn’t appreciate, and they asked her to go to the movie with them instead of hanging out doing nothing with a poor dude like me. She picked her bike and I thought she would actually go with them, but she just asked me to do the same so we could go home. It seems like nothing now that we’re adults, but when you’re eleven and lonely it actually means a lot.”
Lily swallowed the lump in her throat. How come she never thought about little details like those even when she grew older? It really felt like nothing important to her, she just did was felt right at the moment and that was it.
“We were riding back when we arrived near the hills of the park, I sped up because the stupid kids obviously weren’t done with us so they followed us, and I just fell down the hill with my bike. Naturally the brave kids ran away, and Lily called for help.”
Misha stopped talking to look at her and just smiled.
“I almost peed my pants. You scared me!”
“Sorry about that.”
He laughed and stood up. “So yeah… She could’ve gone with them, it would’ve been the logic thing to do at that age, rich kids hanging out with a rich girl, but no, the miss decided to stand by me that day, and I started to think maybe she didn’t hang out with me only because our moms were friends and she just had to.”
“That’s what you thought?” She asked in a high pitched voice.
Misha rolled his eyes. “It crossed my mind.”
 Typical.
“Did I answer your question? It was not a funny story, sorry.” Misha turned to the fan who asked for the childhood story.
“It was perfect, thank you!”
This is when Sebastian decided to crash the panel.
“Are you having fun in here?”
He came up on stage and Misha welcomed him by putting his arm around his shoulders.
“You have no idea!”
“Mademoiselle...” Sebastian bent down and kissed Lily twice on the cheeks to say hello.
“Monsieur...” She smiled, kissing him back.
“What were you talking about?”
“You just missed a cute story.” Misha teased.
“Damn! Was it as good as the bathroom story from yesterday?”
Lily’s eyes widened and she raised her mic, almost ready to scream ‘shut up!’ but she didn’t.
Misha cracked up. “Nope. She forbade me to tell that specific story in front of all these people. I don’t know why.”
“I don’t know why either. It’s such a funny story! But I’m always up for new ones, I’ll watch this one on Youtube then.” Sebastian sat on Misha’s chair next to Lily, and her face fell.
“What???”
“Oh, did I forget to mention those lovely people can't help filming every panel and post it everywhere on the internet? Oops!” Misha teased.
“I thought it was not allowed!”
Sebastian smiled and was proud he could place his next line.
“Yeah... just like it's not allowed to fuck in school's bathroom. People don't care and do it anyway.”
The screams of the audience were crazy, Lily's eyes popped out of her head and her mouth dropped before she hid her face in her hands, blushing furiously.
She thought Misha would say something, but he just laughed his ass off with Sebastian.
“Okay, I'm leaving.” She jumped down of her seat and walked away towards Rebecca, followed by Misha who first thanked and greeted the cheerful audience and whispered something in Sebastian’s ear, leaving him behind for his own panel.
He had to go to photo ops now, but he needed to be sure Lily was okay first, so he ran to catch her arm and stop her in her track.
“You're not mad, are you?”
“I don't know yet... If they figure out Seb was talking about us and I get tons of crap because of this, I'll make you pay.”
He smiled when he heard her playful voice.
“Fine. They won't though, they think Vicki is my first love. Come with me! I want a photo with you!”
“Uh... Okay.”
They entered the photo op room, fans were already waiting in line, but Misha took the time to make a few photos with Lily and his mom before letting them go.
She then left the Hilton with Rebecca and went to the old city, because there was no way she could leave Rome without doing some shopping and they still had plenty of time until the last panel.

If you could rewrite any movie which one would you choose and what would you make different?
Difficult to say, there are alot of bad movies, or worse; movies that had potential.Today I still feel disappointed by Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Big Picture Show. Unlike most of the movies I find bad, I was looking forward to this one. I’m sure that influenced my judgement. I remember it leaving me unfulfilled after watching it for the first time, though it took me a while to realise why.The movie’s production gave Antonucci’s team the opportunity to explore the more undeveloped characters in the cast, like the Kanker sisters and Nazz, but they squandered that chance by making some very odd decisions. I was not charmed by the heavy focus on Edd and Eddy’s friendship, which was filled with..well..homosexual undertones not many fans can deny, while Ed mostly stood in the background, not being much of a serious participant in the very serious drama. It’s a role he ended up playing alot in the series, but it’s not a role he deserved to have in what was supposed to be HIS movie as well.Anyway, there would be quite a few things I’d rewrite. I’d start off taking away all the mystery. When you write a movie for a TV series, it’s supposed to answer the mystery that already exists, not create more or ignore it. I would’ve shown what’s under Edd’s hat, just to be done with it, and make it very clear what it is the Eds have done to deserve getting hunted down like animals. Since they already performed so many scams where they destroyed the neighbourhood and severely hurt their customers, it’s hard to guess what they could’ve done that’s so much worse than their previous antics. When looking at the damage in the intro, I don’t even consider it worse than the previous scams. Somebody needs to be in a coma in order for it to be worse. Sarah and Jimmy were still happily doing their own thing while all of it occurred, so I’d say it was not yet Armageddon. Speaking of which, these two and they disaster tourism didn’t add anything to the story, so maybe they should’ve made themselves useful and be in that coma. Or at least perceived as such by everybody. This would immediately give Ed a bigger, more sincere role as well, since he cares for his sister and would be heartbroken over it. I’m aware it would’ve been a different movie if the carefree dolt turned sad and serious, then again, the original plot is not one you’d tie to a comedy, either. Maybe the fact that it is, is another problem. Why were the Eds this upbeat during their exile? Should the movie even be about children fleeing for their life if you want it to be a comedy?Anyway, the gist is that we need something that makes this scam worse than all the others, and have the characters properly respond to it.I’d also change up the romance with Nazz and Kevin. It was a tedious performance, thanks to Kevin, but I also consider the cheerleader/jock combination to be a cliché we need less of. I would’ve had her go for Eddy, or based on useable hints from the show, Edd.Besides that, I think Nazz’ parts could’ve used flashback scenes to her obese days, where we’d then learn more about who she is and the relationship she shared with whoever she started showing affection towards. That could still be Kevin in this case, but if it was one of the Eds, maybe she could also secretly boycott the other children’s journey to finding them.It also would’ve been cool if in some flashback scenes we’d see Nazz from previous episodes, defending and promoting the Eds or decreasing the damage of their scams behind the scenes, showing how big her influence was. Like the 3rd Lion King movie. Just anything to increase her importance, I guess. If Kevin stays her crush, I would scrap the bike obsession and actually have him respond to her advantages in a believable manner. The role of the Kankers in the movie was fine, but it’s disappointing that their efforts of protecting the Eds from the others were not acknowledged by anyone, and that they did not bother saving Edd and Eddy from Eddy’s brother’s violence. That was strangely out-of-character. I’d have them beat him up and the Eds openly accepting them afterwards, since they saved them twice by that time and have proven their feelings to be genuine. Of course this needs proper dialogue to go with, but I think when this level of seriousness comes from characters like the Kankers, it’ll have a bigger impact than when it comes from a character that’s already emotional most of the time. Like Edd.Then for Eddy’s brother, who I truthfully have no problems with; he could’ve benefited from a character redemption, even if it’s just to humanize a villain for once. We have way too many unmotivated villains in fiction and we still don’t really know who Eddy’s brother is.In the movie we see the Kanker sisters dragging him inside his home, off committing sexual assault by the looks of it, which I find an improper way to end the story of a man we only just got introduced to. He’ll still be Eddy’s brother at the end of the day, so what will these two boys say to each other at the next family dinner? Not much good when you end things this way.So, after I’d have him beaten up by the Kankers and Eddy had his talk with his unusual saviours, I think it would be good if he approached his floored brother and directly asked why he is bullying him. Eddy’s brother would then confess that he’s upset because their parents preferred Eddy over him after he was born. He’ll add that he tried to teach him bad things in order to get him in trouble, and on other days just shoved him around in his state of bitterness, but his intention was to become the #1 son again. But now that he’s an adult and living on his own, he realises it’s pointless to keep going and he’s lost the game of winning their love long ago. Nobody has to feel sorry for him at that point but Eddy. The problem with the movie is that it’s all pretty much about Eddy, with Edd playing the other main part. These two had the most story-progressing dialogue.I don’t know why Eddy is the only character that got explored, we already know who he is. If the less exciting travelling scenes - so most of them in my opinion - were replaced with exploring the other characters, I think we’d have a more interesting movie. Not saying his character exploration is bad, but why did they choose to discuss Eddy’s relationship with his brother? Why not also Ed’s with his sister and parents? And Edd’s with his parents? There’s so much that’s left undiscussed, and I don’t think Eddy’s relationship with his brother was the first and only thing fans were curious about. Show off the parents, show off more children, reveal some last names; this alone I find more interesting than Eddy’s brother. The Kankers were the only allies from beginning to finish, but they got zero praise, Nazz was obviously supposed to star in her own little romance plot, but the movie ended without the romance ever being mentioned again, Kevin was horrid, Rolf and Wilfred were fairly unpleasant towards each other, and the villainous role Jonny was given was insulting towards his character; it’s like nobody received the minimal best treatment from this movie.I also would’ve inserted different music tracks for the dramatic bits. The music was consistently jazzy and cheery, it was weird to listen to.Fans say to have cried when Ed and Eddy sank through the mud, but the background music already spoiled that it was all just gud lulz. It and the sound effects did not take these scenes seriously, while you can clearly see that the animation did. The ball was dropped at many areas.

Just Things About Riverdale, Chapter Ten: The Lost Weekend
Well, here we fucking go.
Oh god.
“I barely acknowledge my own birthday.”
Same, dude. Same.
Gasp.
We’re finally talking about Archie “mysterious” mother.
Official divorce. Damn. What went down, seriously?
Two years, holy shit.
Ah, Fred is leaving. The whole scene-jumping sequences involving dumb high-schoolers  partying is starting to make sense, unfortunately.
“Friendervention.” I don’t know why I’m laughing, but I’m laughing.
Archie & Betty?
“Three musketeers!” Aw.
Aw.
“I thought maybe I’d surprise him.”
Yeah, that sounds like a bad idea.
“I think the best gift that I could give to Jughead would be to stay away.”
I hurt in places that don’t exist.
Hostile eye-contact with the Pussy Cats.
I hope they fuck Archie UP.
Sorry, it’s been a long day, I’m feeling a little hostile.
“Jughead’s never had a Birthday party!”
Archie’s head-nod.
Jughead and Betty clearly weren’t super close before the start of the school year, if she’s had no idea about that. How do you not know something like that about a friend?
Am I actually, like, sort of--maybe--classifying Archie as the Better Friend during this episode?
I’m not sure how to deal with this?
“A low-key surprise party!”
Archie’s anxious head shake.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON. DANGER.
“NO.”
“Jughead doesn’t like his birthday!”
Okay, guys, fine.
Jughead&Archie.
“Jughead is a lone wolf.” He fucking sounds like he’s quoting Jughead.
What part of “Don’t turn around” do they not understand???
“Not that I care because he’s evil incarnate.”
“You don’t have to go Dark Betty on me.”
Betty has so many fucking rage issues, and I find it alarmingly relatable.
I really want her to punch him in his smug little FACE.
“But I can damn well make sure my boyfriend has the best Birthday of his life.”
I’m having flashbacks to that stupid fucking baby shower.
“Screw it, I’m with Betty.”
Archie.
I was fucking rooting for you, man.
“It’s going to be epic.”
It’s going to be catastrophic, calling it now.
“I didn’t mean to ambush you.”
Are you sure? Because it looks to me like you meant to ambush him.
“You’re really falling for this Jones boy, aren’t you?”
I really just love the fact that there’s no judgement. Alice is straight up supporting her daughter; it’s such a violent turn-around from the Alice we knew Before.
Excuse me for a moment, I just need to go into another room and spend 5 to 10 minutes squealing over the fact that Jughead apparently comes with his own sound-effects.
This episode is uncomfortably relatable.
75 years? Holy shit.
This whole HBIC face-off just feels really...superfluous?
Also, I’m really disappointed that Cheryl and Veronica’s friendship just went up in flames, before my very eyes.
I have no fucking words for how angry I am.
Like, is Chuck really supposed to be some kind of threat?
Because, honestly? Who fucking gives a shit?
There is absolutely nothing threatening about that fucking toad.
Emotional blackmail, signed with love by Daddy. Nice.
THAT FUCKING SHIRT.
“Do I look like Jughead to you?”
Maybe in the right lighting.
“You really shouldn’t have.”
“...Are you drunk?”
Wow, yeah, just kinda hit me that Jughead would automatically know. How could he not?
A Spanish Happy Birthday! <3
I love the fact that they incorporate Veronica’s heritage into the show with little things like that.
“Thanks everyone,” he says with no sincerity, at all.
“Oh, it’s Kevin.”
Wow, hot damn, what a voice.
“That was..haunting, Betty.”
LMAO, yeah it was.
Wow, I paused the episode to type out my thoughts, and Betty is right in the middle of kissing Jughead’s cheek. In the other Just Things About posts that I’ve written, I know that I’ve mentioned the expression on Jughead’s face when Betty kisses him. The only way I can think to describe him in those moments is warm.
Right here, though, as Jughead stares down at that (honestly) weird-ass cake, and Betty pecks him on the cheek, Jughead reminds me of the cold. There is no warmth in his expression; there’s no happiness there.
I suppose that, essentially, Jughead looks the way that he currently feels.
(That feeling that he described to Archie over an entire pan of pizza in the Andrews’ kitchen.)
Jughead looks overwhelmingly, achingly alone, and it’s an unsettling thing to see when he is surrounded by people who claim to be his friends.
“I wish it were just the two of us right now.”
“That makes two of us.”
“Why the hell is everything so doom and gloom with you, Jug?”
It’s a real fucking mystery.
“I’m not normal. I’m not wired to be normal.”
“Did you really think you could throw a party without inviting moi?”
Why don’t these people lock their doors? It’s like they want to be robbed.
“Screw it, one in the kitchen, one in the backyard!”
I vote that we take Jughead and give him to some better friends, who’s with me?
“Valerie’s here, and I think she wants me back.”
LMFAO
IN YOUR FUCKING DREAMS.
“Now we’re here, in the middle of a Seth Rogan movie.”
I don’t even know why I’m laughing.
Joaquin&Kevin.
Joaquin&Kevin.
Why does this keep happening?
Oh shit.
“I’m sorry that, after you sexually harassed those girls, there were actual consequences, Chuck.”
“These kids are more on-the-ball than the Sheriff.”
You have no fucking clue.
LMAO
Alice Cooper, with the fucking binoculars. I can’t even.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in.”
I’m okay. I am so okay. I am, like, the most okay ever.
I don’t feel SAD. Like, what even are emotions, you know? I don’t fucking know.
“Why are you getting so upset?”
Hmm, maybe it’s because you did the complete opposite of what he wanted on a day that he clearly can’t stand.
“I hate that word.”
“We’re on borrowed time.”
“Or until Archie changes his mind and says he wants to be with you?”
I, uh
“You shut me out, remember? It’s too late.”
Melody, being there for her girl.
Ugh. Archie, you dumbass.
On today’s episode of Archie Makes Bad Decisions.
“This whole night is bad luck.”
FP’s Concerned Dad(tm) expression.
Cheryl and Chuck are, like, the worst tag-team in the history of ever.
“But did you love him, maybe, in ways that a sister shouldn’t?”
Holy hell on ice.
“I want you to go back inside and talk to your girl.”
“Don’t run away! You’ve got something good here, with her, with your friends! Something that--something that we could never give you.”
I”M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING!
“Snakes don’t shed their skin so easily.”
Omg, Alice Cooper makes so much more sense, now.
Does she have the tattoo? I really hope she has the tattoo.
“And all this time, I thought you were a lover, not a fighter.” “I’m both; I’ve got layers.”
Like an onion?
“Maybe I’m not used to it, maybe I’m scared.”
Oh, Betty.
</3
Jughead’s expression when he sees Betty’s palms.
His hands around hers, his lips pressed to her knuckles.
The way Betty looks at Jughead while he’s looking down at their hands, like he’s something special, and she doesn’t understand how she got so lucky.
“By Monday, this will all be but a dream. Trust me, no one will remember anything.”
Pfffffffffttt. Okay, sweetie, if you say so.
“Why do I keep doing this?”
I’ve been wondering the same thing. Only, like, along the lines of, “Why does he keep doing this?”
“I keep wrecking things.”
Again, except, “He keeps wrecking things.”
“Welcome to my life.”
Please don’t start.
There she goes.
“Everyday I wonder, what if I had left Riverdale with my mom?”
It’s like the writer’s are handing out prompts to fanfic authors.
“We all are, Archie, and honestly? You less than most.”
...What??
Archie&Veronica???????????
He took the mattress on the floor, that is so cute.
“Dont worry, my lips are sealed.”
Damnit all, can’t you guys be friends already?
“I believe in you, Mom.”
Aw.
OMG.
IT WAS A BURGER.
BETTY MADE HIM A CAKE THAT LOOKS LIKE A BURGER.
THAT’S FUCKING ADORABLE.
I need glasses.
“So, you and Veronica?”
Pinky out when he takes a drink.
“This is a small town, but it’s not that small.”
Shit is about to go doooooown.
Betty&Veronica.
Some much needed Beronica.
“The last time you brought me baked goods was because you kissed Archie.”
Betty&Veronica.
Betty&Veronica holding hands.
Oh, fuck off, you Actual Five Headed Dragon.
“We’re home.”
Oh shit.
I wasn’t going to do this tonight, because I just got off work, I’ve got the mother of all migraines, and I wasn’t sure I’d be coherent enough to take everything in and then spit out proper notes. So, I may come back to this episode at a later date, when I’m a little more awake, and add to it, like I did with Chapter Eight (?).
No, scratch that, I will definitely revisit and add a part two, because there was so much that I didn’t address, because I just??? I can’t even properly express the way I felt about some of these scenes right now, I’m really drained from work, and there’s a lot that I really do want to talk about.
On the upside, this time Jughead’s birthday was just as shitty as every other day of the year.
LOL
Okay, sorry, I’m going.

THOUGHTS ON RIVERDALE
I don’t fully remember reading Archie comics back then, all I’ve got are bits and pieces of my memories  from my childhood. Archie comics debuted back in 1939 and is still popular until today. During the early 2000’s, my cousins, who were teenagers that time are obsessed with the comics and I, as a four-year old child would enjoy conversations with them about Archie comics even though I don’t really understand half of what’s happening in the comics. I would just enjoy looking at the pictures and one things for sure, I am in love with the characters  Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.
Anyway, I’m not here to reminisce about my childhood and how I barely remember reading (or looking) at Archie comics. I am here to discuss about the awesome new show based on the Archie comics’ characters, Riverdale.
Warning: May contain spoilers to those who haven’t watched Riverdale yet…and major feels and fangirling that caused this blog post to be somewhat informal (?)
Tumblr media
Riverdale premiered last January 26, 2017. The show is a mystery, teen drama that revolves around the lives of Archie Andrews, a teenage boy who’s trying to balance his love for music and football; Betty Cooper, the town’s girl next door and Archie’s best friend; Veronica Lodge, the rich new girl who moved from New York to Riverdale because of her father’s imprisonment and Jughead Jones, the resident emo kid who’s currently trying to write a novel and helping Betty Cooper solve the mystery Jason Blossom’s murder.
The series also follows the lives of Hermione Lodge, Veronica’s mother; Fred Andrews, Archie’s father and the other Riverdale residents, the Blossoms, the Coopers, Josie and the Pussycats and FP, Jughead’s alcoholic father.
The Show’s Pacing
The pacing of the show is kinda fast. Betty and Archie’s friendship wasn’t explored that much. Betty was head over heels for her best friend Archie, she’s been in love with him since they were young and when Archie admitted that he doesn’t return the feeling, Betty was so broken-hearted and now it’s hard to believe that she’s over Archie already in just a short period of time and now currently dating Jughead.  I get that some people say that she got over it but I wish the writers  showed how she’s trying to heal from being rejected. Don’t worry I’m not against Bughead because I’m a major bughead shipper but I wish we could have seen more of Betty and Archie fixing their relationship after that confession on the night of the dance. I really hope that we would see more of Betty and Archie acting like they’re really best friends.
Another thing that I felt was really rushed was Valarchie, Archie and Valerie’s relationship. Archie got over Ms. Grundy so fast which is so weird, and this got me thinking that wow, Riverdale residents are a pro in moving on. I was expecting him to be single and loveless for a few episodes after Ms. Grundy’s departure but I was surprised to see the writers just throw another love interest for Archie. Valerie’s talented, though the actress playing her should show more facial expression but I think it’s kind of part of Val’s character, chill and casual. She’s a great love interest for Archie,  but I think it would have been better to see them grow and develop into friends first rather than just spending one episode together and then they suddenly kiss and then become a ‘thing’,  then we don’t get to see Valerie in the next two episodes and when we do, she’s casually walking the street in the middle of winter and breaking things off with Archie when he arrived to join her.
Some pieces weren’t thoroughly explored either, the writers would bring it up and then suddenly it’s not talked about or it just disappears in the next few episodes. Though I think it is part of the story line to give the viewers the whole mysterious atmosphere and vibe of the show.
I read a lot of comments from other people saying that Riverdale needs to slow down, and yes I agree but if you look at it, they only have thirteen episodes to fit all the story line and I guess they didn’t want to us to wait until season 2 to find out who killed Jason Blossom. But yeah, maybe some side story should have been introduced on the show’s second season
The Storyline
The plot of the show is definitely different from the comics. The show is dark, mysterious and exciting.
The Characters (and cast)
I love Lili Reinhart but I’m still skeptical about her playing Betty. I don’t know, I feel like they could have casted a more fitted actress to play Betty? (Don’t hate me!) I hope I get use to her and accept her soon because Bughead and Sprousehart are life.
Is it me or does Cheryl Blossom looks like Lydia Martin from Teen Wolf sometimes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like Cheryl actually, I believe she’s only cold-hearted and mean because of her environment, she may be mean, spoiled and a bitch (sometimes) but I know deep down she’s just a helpless and confused girl who just wants to be accepted like everyone does to her brother, Jason.
I would also like more screen time for Kevin, Reggie, Ethel and Josie and the pussycats.
Ships
As always, in any fandom, ship wars are inevitable but what’s funny in the Riverdale fandom is that everyone seems to be shipping everyone with everyone.
If anyone would ask me what ship I support most, I think I already stated it above, BUGHEAD. Jughead acts all tough and emotionless in front of everybody but when he’s with Betty, he becomes sweet and soft. I think he only shows that side of him to Betty which is cute.
Tumblr media
To be honest, I don’t know who to ship Veronica with—my best choice is Reggie or Archie  but this season I want to see Veronica be an independent, fierce and strong girl before going into a relationship but a part of me say that it wouldn’t be bad if she’s stays single. I feel like no guy can handle her toughness.
Though we only got see Jason Blossom and Polly Cooper’s relationship through flashbacks, their forbidden love story makes me sober. Their love story is torn out from Romeo and Juliet and it’s sad that Jason won’t see his twin babies grow (Major Finnick Odair feels).

I have a feeling that he would have been a great father and a caring, loving husband to Polly. I know their plan of raising their own family at such a young age is crazy but I can imagine Jason being happy and cute as he plays with his twins.
It would be too basic if Archie ends up with Veronica but I never see them as a couple, I think it would be better if they’re just really good friends. Though it would be really fun to see Archie get jealous of Bughead but I hope he’s won’t tear up Bughead. I just want Archie to realize that he had his chance with Betty but he turned her down. Valarchie’s nice and I like it though it need more development because their relationship seems flat? Archie and Grundy’s relationship made me cringe,

so yeah, Valarchie...or Varchie (?). I also have thoughts about Archie and Cheryl but it would be nice if their relationship becomes platonic in the end with Archie always looking out for Cheryl like what Jason does.
Soundtrack
I’m the kind of person who notices not just the output we see on the screen. I also pay attention and wonder how a masterpiece has been created—how was it written, how did they film this scene, and how the hell do the musical scorers find such amazing soundtrack!
Yes, I’m the kind of person who notices the music on the background and would instantly fall in love with song. Riverdale’s soundtrack is something new and timely. Some songs contains electro pop, I’m not usually a fan of electro pop, I only listen to few but they way the musical scorers used these songs in Riverdale was very fitting.
The soundtrack also contains original songs from the show, songs performed by Josie and the Pussycats and Archie Andrews’ melodic acoustic songs.
Scream + PLL = Riverdale
Riverdale is being compared to MTV’s Scream and Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars. I agree that it has elements similar to Scream and Pretty Little Liars but I believe that Riverdale is unique and beautiful in its own way.
Who’s the Killer?
Basically, I have no idea. I am not certain but I have a few guesses.
It could be Hal Cooper because of his hatred for the Blossoms. Maybe when he found out that his daughter Polly is pregnant with Jason Blossom’s child, it was enough to make his blood boil and loathe the Blossoms even more and kill the red-headed boy who ruined his daughter’s life.
It could be FP, Jughead’s father. I know his somehow involved with the murder, maybe he was paid by Hal Cooper to kill Jason? Or for another reason maybe?
I’m curious about Ms. Grundy though, I mean why would the writers bring her character to Riverdale if she’s not somehow involved? I don’t know if her story isn’t over and we’ll see her in Riverdale again soon enough.
It could also be someone no one suspects because that’s how the killers are usually revealed in this kind of genre or it’s someone we don’t know yet but I hope it’s not gonna be a big let down.
Anyway, Riverdale is addicting. I know some people disagree with me saying that it’s not anything like the comics and the characters seems off and somewhat different from their comic counterpart and the whole show is losing its essence and became too dark, but if you look at Riverdale as just Riverdale, a teen drama television series, it’s actually a really good show.
