If the trolls were sufficiently motivated, though, they wouldn't actually need to. Sollux could probably hack one of the kids' computers, to gain access to their Sburb viewport - although if he did, he wouldn't need a camera to snoop on their messages.

I have no particular theories about who he is, how he knows Jade, where he got his hands on so many endgame weapons, or why he's got such an antiquated accent if he's watching movies from the 80s. I assume time travel is involved, but that doesn't really narrow anything down in a comic like this. He (she? they?) is a complete enigma, and I'll just have to wait to learn more.

I've actually been workshopping some Quest stuff for Sahlee this week! I suppose I'd need to figure out her Title first, though, and for that, I'd need to get a more solid idea of her personality, and how her experiences on Alternia have shaped her.

in one of your last posts you seemed to imply that the multiverse exists inside the timeline, but ive always read it as the opposite, the timeline inside the universe that would explain why the trolls can pick any time from the humans universe to talk to them but cant have private conversations with their own futute/past selves, its not an inherent part of trollian, they are just outside the human timeline (the memos are still trollian being time fucky) dont know if that makes any difference but its a thought also i realize the tag may be unecessary due to my quirk, but its too late to stop now

Originally, my assumption was that each timeline contained a duplicate of the entire multiverse. Doomed timelines don't seem to let you communicate with other universes/dimensions, though, so they don't need to contain other sectors of reality. I'm currently of the opinion that doomed timelines only contain an instance of the dimension they were doomed in. The only timeline which contains the entire multiverse is the Alpha.

This mechanic keeps doomed timelines simple, but in-universe, I don't know why it exists. Much like the Alpha itself, it's a mystery I can only speculate about.

Tavros is barely a presence on the Land he's ostensibly the hero of, and all of his actions are being dictated by a third party who can physically control his body. This third party does not acknowledge or respect Tavros's own desires, effectively forcing him to play the game in a way that she personally approves of.

Shit, this is such a dilemma. I'm honestly really torn.

See, I'd probably find old fandom theories absolutely fascinating to analyze. I'd love to know how closely my ideas align with those of the early Homestuck fandom, and whether I'm saying anything really out-of-pocket. My analysis of Sollux's ~ATH script was apparently an original theory, and it's honestly one my proudest moments.

But that's also sort of the problem, isn't it? If I dive too deeply into other people's fan theories, they'll start to affect my own - and if I'm introduced to a really compelling fan theory, it could end up replacing any homegrown theories that I could have developed in lieu of it. If someone had send me a well-reasoned ~ATH theory before I did my own analysis, I'd probably have been less motivated to make the analysis in the first place. After all, many of my questions would already have been answered by a clever theory I just read.

People are free to send me their own off-the-cuff opinions on what's happening in the comic, or their own takes on any meta I write. I get a lot of asks like that, and they're some of my favorites. There are also asks which spoil a little too much, but I'm still interested in their takes, so Cat's saving them for later. We don't really delete asks - we just delay the ones that aren't necessarily appropriate for a blind liveblog.

Obviously there's a fine line here, and whether a given ask is a theory or just an opinion is a little subjective - but in my opinion, the influence that asks and submissions have had on my analysis has been relatively minor. I don't think many of my theories have been spawned from an ask, or killed by one.

This is a little different, though, because it's part of a theory that was crowdsourced over several years. It doesn't sound like something that could be inferred by an individual, so I'm not sure if it's something an individual liveblogger should necessarily know about? If I start crowdsourcing my analysis, my theories will be less Wertsearch and more fandom consensus, and I don't think I'd enjoy that as much.

I really want to know, but I think I'll enjoy the liveblog more if I don't. When I finish the comic, I'll gleefully analyze any fan theory that anyone sends me - but for now, I'll just have to wonder, and come up with theories of my own!

Yeah, we've really been getting into it with Vriska lately. I've enjoyed trying to explain and predict her actions, and I'm glad people don't think I'm going overboard when trying to analyze her.

When a character does something interesting, I don't like to move on until I have a theory about why they did it. Sure, it may be refuted later, but it needs to be something that's consistent with what I currently know about their personality.

Vriska takes a particularly long time to puzzle out in this way. Her motivations are derived from a complex web (lol) of factors, including Scratch, Spidermom, her rivalry with Terezi, her horrendous relationship with Tavros, classism, teenage hormones, quadrant politics, highblood society and the Alternian culture of violence. They all inform her decisions, and any combination of them could have been the catalyst for the latest Vriska Incident.

I want characters to make sense to me, and Vriska is written to deliberately challenge my attempt to achieve this. Her meta is fun to write, so I'm glad it's also fun to read!

Some fun stuff happened for this week. The community did its best to rally around poor Nick Jackson. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to get him over the 50% smash mark. However, he received the sixth most votes out of all the polls so far. He just also received the second most pass votes out of all the polls (second only to Vince McMahon back in week 2). Meanwhile, Matt received the ninth most total votes, but he came in at 59.2% smash.

The apple fell pretty far from the tree for nepo baby Charlie Dempsey. For those who aren't aware, he's William Regal's son. William Regal's vote was 65.6% smash, while Charlie Dempsey's result was 22.1% smash. Maybe he'll grow up and get more smashable over time. These polls do seem to trend toward Sexualizing That Old Man. Someday I'm gonna use this data to make some charts, and one of them is gonna be wrestler age vs smash rating.

#2: Ur not fucking weak. Don't fucking act like it.

#3: Stop being a lazy bitch and work for it. U can day dream all u want, it'll never be true in this world if ur not getting off ur ass to get what u want.

♥︎ chart everything. Cal logs, w3ight log daily never skip a day, never skip a count. Every cal counts, cuz even if u skip it, ur body won't. It also makes it easier to plan when ur gonna reach a w3ight and it's nice to see it all laid out. Also if ur ashamed to count the cals in something, u prob shouldn't be having it. This is why tracking is amazing, do it daily!!!

♥︎ omad is ur best friend. Treat it nicely. less then 1400cals is still a deficit. U can still lose.

♥︎ Learn about urself!!!! Learn about ur b1nge triggers, what makes u turn to food, learn what food u have no control over + how u can work to control urself around these, what motivates u to keep going with 4n4, etc... Learning more about urself. So then u can counteract those triggers and impulsiveness to eat!!! When u start to get cravings or mental hunger, Work out!!! replace b1ng1ng habits with stuff to actually improve ur body. It take 15+ days for a habit to form. Keep working with it until ur reaction to being hungry, or even thinking of f00d, should be to work out or go on a walk, etc... When u lose motivation, look at the reasons why u started in the first place. Who are u trying prove a point too?

♥︎ do not neglect ur vitamins. And don't be lazy, actually research what u specifically need. One thing will work for one person but won't do the exact same thing for another. So please know urself and get ur levels checked. (im currently being prescribed iron supplements cuz of my fainting issue. So please do ur research.♡)

♥︎ 3L of water a day. Never feel hungry again, always get full off of three bites whenever u do eat♡ also helps with skin, keeps u full and content through ur day. Generally, water is the best♡ If u struggle with getting ur water intake, every time u see ur water bottle/anything mentioning water/randomly remembering water exists. Chug it. U won't remember to drink the amount u should, so chug it.

♥︎ when u do eat, chug lots of water while u eat. Like 1.5L water when u eat. Make sure to chug lots in between bites. This makes the food move through ur system like it's nothing, make sure u have access to a toilet after. It'll be like 5-15mins when it all comes out. U can't control it♡ but hey ur not consuming as many cals as u would've!!! (I love this tip for whenever I b1ng3, makes u full aff and get what u b1nged on out♡)

♥︎ Work out!!! 1 lbs of muscle burns 100cals on top of ur BMR *the cals ur body burns to keep it functioning on a daily basis.* Trade fat for muscle, say goodbye to skinny fat (and if ur fat already ,actually fat not yall twiggys; this will help kinda customize ur body? if that makes sense. Like it's easier to shape fat into what u want ur body to be than it is to build off of a lean/skinny body. so if u wanna be slim thicc, work out!!) Working out should absolutely be part of ur daily life. Working out first thing in the morning and really waking up ur body, letting ur body function!! Work out a little bit through the day, cardio especially!! and then one major workout 3-4h after ur dinner. Wait 3-4h after eating to work out. It helps burn the cals instead of right after eating since u won't burn much. literally work out bruh, it'll help with everything so much. BE EXCITED TO WORK OUT ITS A PRIVILEGE AND U SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR IT!!!!! the burn in ur lungs, the ache in ur body, is a proud sign. It means ur doing good. Don't wanna ache anymore? work out♡ Working out also acts as appetite repression for some people♡

♥︎ If u smoke weed and can't deal with munchies. Train urself not to be♡ Influence urself while high to crave sk1nn1!!! Train urself to instantly get up and start working out when ur high♡ this is amazing since I'm a stoner and dont like gettinh the munchies, training out my munchies was one of the easiest things to do. It just takes a little bit of time and discipline. But once they're out, they're gone♡ It's been two years since I did that and now I be working out hard-core while stoned lmfaoo It's possible♡ How to train urself, get high and force urself to work out, scroll endlessly through 3d tags and th1nsp0!!! these two really helped me. look at ur own pics and vids. In general just think a lot about ur w3ight. That's what really triggered my cravings and munchies away. (Plus with the anxiety of weed after not smoking, it causes me to not 3at and be hyper. So, cals burning and no appetite♡)

♥︎ If u want to b1nge. B1nge. Hate urself more to really prove to urself how much u deserve to feel this way. Hate urself more now? Good, why not eat one more bag of chips, eat eat eat!!! Move ur arms around, do laying down leg workouts, keep moving!!! Ppl have told me I'm more fun to be around when I'm just saying 'yes' to wherever someone wants to go. And everyone knows how much fªsting and restricting turns u into an asshole with no patience. So this works on balancing that attitude.

♥︎ one hour of cardio daily!!! no matter what. In general, getting in ur cardio is amazing, it helps so much with just feeling better. I love the runners high♡ Fall in love with the process, not just the results. Love 4n4 and 4n4 will do everything right for u♡

How their clothes barely hold onto their body while ur suffocating in urs, trying to make urself as small as them when only ur an eyesore next their blessing figure.

So some reminders; 4n4 coaches aren't ur friend. They're just creeps who want n00ds from mentally ill people, especially from minors.

Tumblr, I've found to be the worsee for ppl preying on mentally ill ppl, minors especially. There are really no real 4n4 coaches unless they have 4n4 themselves. (but as always stay safe, and don't trust any of them. no matter what.) And ik a lot of yall don't listen and only wanna lose, so If ur gonna be stupid and trust 4n4 coaches, here's how; if ur minor never send pics, no matter what (it will count as €P, so just dont.) and if ur adult, do not send pics still. just because ur desperate does not make u easy access, personal p0rn for these creeps.. Never give real info about urself. Make up everything, including ur stats *if u don't already have them on ur acc* (this is to test them- the 'coaches'). If they are instantly asking for pics, BLOCK THEM, if they cant just accept things as they are from the beginning, BLOCK THEM, If they cant just accept ur stat w/o pics, BLOCK THEM. THEY ONLY WANT N00DS. There are many professional personal trainers who never see their clients but yet speak with them all the time. SO PICS ARENT NECESSARY. SRS PICS ARENT NEEDED FOR COACHES. STATS ALONE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH!!! . If they are focused on anything else but weight, f00d habits/plans, work-outs, and listening to you!! Its extremely helpful to learn from the past. What you've done in the past to lose, but something didn't work or went wrong. If they dont care to listen and only wanna speak like they know everything about u already. BLOCK THEM, or if they start getting side tracked with u, BLOCK THEM. 4N4 COACHES ARENT UR FRIENDSS, They are just supposed to help u get to ur goal. Treat them like a doc check up, they help u form a plan that u both form together, its a plan that is based on u, not on them, based on ur activities and eating habits, etc.. this plan is for u, built off of u. Once the plan is good enough, where u feel confident about actually going to go through with it, do it for a week, and then check in at the end of the week. there shouldn't be daily talking or talking about anything other than how the plan is working, what u can work on for the next week, what ur goal for the end of the week is. If the plan needs to tweeked, if something is not working, how u feel!!! 🩵 - branching off of the last one, rarity has made outfits for ALL of the ponies before !! but pinkie pie has been by far her most loyal customer because yk she throws parties like triweekly !! rarity mostly specializes in dressmaking but can also make other types of stuff . :) pinkie pie and fluttershy both seperately have taken some sewing classes from rarity cuz they alwayss loved her stuff :)

💛 - fluttershy runs/works a petshop/veterinarian clinic

💖 - at some point , pinkie pie moves out of sugarcube corner and runs her own nightclub !! (but like its not a naughty club, this is ponyville we are talking about here !! just lots of candy and soda and DANCING AND GAMES :3) and pinkie pie would be the funnest momma evr >w<

💙 - rainbow dash becomes a coach for the wonderbolts / some sort of coach :)

💜 - twilight works at a school as a science/math/magic teacher, book author or a librarian! she would be a pretty average mom IN THE NICEST WAY POSSIBLE just saying she’s just your average girl!! but she has lots of knowledge to share :3 !!

Surprise - rooster x reader

Summary: After a long time away on a mission, rooster is finally home, and he decides to surprise you at the hospital.

A/N: This was such a cute idea, and I had so much fun writing it! Nurses are super badass and do so much for everyone! Fun fact about me, my moms a nurse. I hope you enjoy this, I am seriously loving all of the rooster content right now! xoxo - Mac :) (ps, the other requests are coming!)

Working as a nurse was a stressful job at times. The calls in the middle of the night informing you to come in and assist with an emergency, the long and gruelling night shifts that required more than one cup of coffee, the patients crying out vulnerably for you to help them. It was difficult, but it was rewarding to help people get better and watch them recover from their injuries and illnesses. You were always busy at the hospital, and that helped you keep distracted when your husband was away over seas.

Two years ago, you walked down the aisle and married Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the love of your life. And since then, life has been nothing but happiness for the both of you.

Bradley was home most of the time, but for the past two weeks he had been aboard an aircraft carrier, working on a classified mission. Rooster had been nervous to go, worried about the severity of it all, worried that he might not make it back home to you, but he knew that he needed to go. The mission had ended, and your husband had lived to tell. Now, all you had to do was wait for him to come back home - which was the hardest part.

The parking lot of the La Jolla regional hospital looked emptier than usual today, which gave you hope that you wouldn't be running from floor to floor to cover the amount of patients.

"Morning Mrs. Bradshaw," the blonde secretary welcomed you as you walked into the building, "We've got some patients in the maternity ward that are ready to be seen. And then it's just general stuff for you this after noon."

You nodded, setting your tumbler of ice coffee down in your locker across from the blondes desk, "Thanks Amanda."

You took a sip of your coffee and put your stethoscope around your neck, looking at yourself in the mini-mirror on the inside of the door. Your sun-kissed hair was pulled back into a curled ponytail and you were wearing your favourite set of navy-blue scrubs, just because you worked in a hospital wasn't an excuse not to look pretty!

You loved working in the maternity ward because it meant that you would get the chance to see, hold, and take care of newborn babies.

Your first patient of the day, was an hours-old baby and her mother. It was just a regular check to ensure that both baby and mom were managing well after the birth. The baby, one wrapped in a small white hospital blanket, was laying peacefully in its nursery crib, which really was just a clear sort of thing with a name tag, this one reading, 'Clara.'

"How are we doing in here?" you spoke softly, careful not to alarm the baby.

The mother, a woman with sleek brown hair (who looked far too put together to have just had a child) smiled, looking over at her baby "We're just fine!"

You smiled, looking at the woman's numbers on the various monitors on the back wall, which told you that she had a strong heartbeat and an average blood pressure, and all of the other usual things.

"Do you need anything ma'am?" you asked, jotting her numbers down on her chart.

She shook her head, "I've got water, and my baby, Im all good."

You nodded, walking softly over to Clara, the baby with the bright eyes who was watching you intensely as you checked her heart rate. You smiled down at her, you loved taking care of new babies, it was amazing how many of them just slept soundly after such a eventful time.

You jotted down Clara's number and checked a couple different boxes on her chart, and said goodbye as you worked your way over to the next room to see the next baby.

In this room, there were a man and woman sitting together on the small sofa in the back of the room, a baby cradled in their arms. Both were dressed in regular clothes and had the same tired look in their eyes. "Hello!" you said brightly, grabbing the families chart off of the door, "I've come by to check how your son is doing."

Their chart read that the baby was three days old, and was a part of a set of twins. From what you could tell, the other, a little girl, was in the NICU as she experienced some troubles breathing when she first arrived and has been in there for the past three days.

You tried not to get shifts in the NICU. It was always hard to see the smallest of babies lying in their own boxes with all sorts of tubes sticking out of them. It seemed unfair how something so young could already be subjected to such a great deal of worry and harm.

The woman nodded, standing up with her son tucked close to her chest, "Where would you like him?"

You brought the cart around, pushing it by its wheels "here would be great!"

The woman carefully laid him down, the child still asleep, "I'm just going to check how he's doing now."

You did just so, you used your smaller stethoscope, one designed for the smallest of heartbeats in the smallest of humans. And yes, the small boy's was just as it was supposed to be. You then checked his chest and looked him over for any additional concerns, and gladly, you didn't find any. "He is all heathy," you said, giving the mother the okay to pick up her son.

The father, who had been watching carefully from the side cleared his throat, "If only our other one was as healthy."

"I'm sorry to hear that she's in the nicu," you said, discarding your gloves in the trash, "But I have no doubt that she is going to make a full recovery. We have the best doctors and staff working back there."

The man nodded, "Our little girl is a fighter."

You nodded, and said your goodbyes, letting a breath escape your lips as you left the room, god, it was hard to see people so worried sometimes.

It was hard at first, to see families go through the troubles of having a sick child, especially a newborn, but over the years, you had learnt to bury your feelings so that they wouldn't get in the way of your duties as a nurse, which was difficult in its own nature.

You finished checking all of the babies in the eastern wing of maternity ward, and then it was your time for lunch.

Your lunch, which you had packed early this morning, consisted of, a fruit bar, a turkey sandwich, and a small tin of grapes. You were seated in the lunch room, at your usual table, the one looking out towards the ocean. You could see people surfing below, laughing, and playing in the waves, it reminded you of rooster.

As you finished eating your sandwich, you opened your phone, pausing for a moment to look at your screen saver, a picture of you and rooster at your engagement party.

You were wearing a creme coloured dress and rooster was in a collared shirt, the two of you grinning brightly, his arm around your waist.

Whenever rooster was away, the first couple days were the hardest to adjust to, cooking for one, waking up alone, without the warmth of your husbands kisses each morning, learning to live alone again. Your way to cope was to drown yourself in work, which probably wasn't the healthiest, but there were always things to do at the hospital, and there were always patients to see.

You opened the messages app, and looked over the one rooster had sent you the night before, a sunset picture of the open ocean, a gorgeous view from his aircraft carrier. "Miss you sweetheart," he had said, "I can't wait to see you soon." You couldn't wait either.

All of this reminiscing made you miss him even more, so you finished the last of your fruit bar, had a big glass of water, and returned to work.

You popped in by Amanda's desk to check where you would be working for the rest of the day. "Where am I needed this afternoon?"

Amanda flipped through a chart, "The walk-in clinic could use a few extra hands."

You nodded, "Thanks Amanda," and continued down the hallway to the ambulatory care section, where the walk-in's would be.

You signed in, swiping your ID card, and then figured out where you were needed.

Your first patient was a teen complaining of chest pains, a boy with fluttery brown hair. You took a sample of blood, and then ran an ecg, and then took them back to the lab for the specialists to check over, "We'll get you all sorted out real soon, don't you worry!" you reassured the boy, who had a nervous look in his eyes, "And if you need anything at all, press that button and one of us will be right over."

Your next patient was an older man with a once-white-now-red cloth wrapped tightly around his left hand. He was wearing a pair of coveralls and a black t-shirt, both covered in bits of grass. "What happened here?" you asked, rolling over the general-trauma kit from the corner.

"Well," the man begun shaking his head taking with some sort of southern accent, "I was tending to the back field, and a chunk of tree got stuck in the mower, and I stupidly stuck my hand down there to free it."

You shook your head, laying out the man's hand down beside him on a sterile pad.

"I thought the mower was off, but as soon as I tugged the branch, the blade started up. Luckily I got my hand out of there before it sped up too fast, but my pointer finger's got a nasty gash to it."

You peeled back the bandage to reveal as nasty gash indeed, "Lucky for you it didn't cut too deep into your skin."

He nodded, touching the brim of his hat, "Thank the lord indeed."

You gave him a numbing injection to freeze off his hand, so while you cleaned and stitched up the wound, the man wouldn't feel a thing.

You used sailing to flush the area, and a couple blades of grass out of the wound, and then began your stitches. "My granddaughter saw the whole thing, poor girl," he said, "She won the spelling bee just last week!"

As you stitched up the mans hand, he proceeded to tell you about his seven grandchildren, all of which he cherished very much. His stories made the process go a whole lost faster, and soon enough you were wrapping the list bit go gauze over his finger.

"Thank you very much," the man said, looking at your ID card, "Nurse. Bradshaw."

You bunched up all of the gauze wrapper and put them into the garbage, discarding your gloves in the act, "You are very welcome Mr. Smith. Take care."

You were on your way to the next room over, when one of the other nurses grabbed your attention. "Y/n," she said, "There's been a switch of patients, you next one is in room 5B, just a general refill on their prescription."

You nodded, "Thanks sally," and proceeded down the hallway with your stethoscope in hand.

Room 5B, was one of the nicer patient rooms, one with a door instead of a simple curtain blocking off the noise of the other patients.

There was no chart on the door, so you knocked lightly, and heard a muffled reply of, "come in."

You pulled back the door and looked up from the floor to see a man dressed in a navy uniform. Your eyes darted up from the ground to the man's face, one you had known and loved quite well. Your eyes meeting soundly with his, and in an instant you knew.

"Bradley!" You squealed, running over to your husband who was standing there in his uniform, his arms open for you. You wrapped your arms around his torso, and rooster did the same to you, one of his hands on your back, the other at the back of your head, cradling it close to him.

"I've missed you," he said into your ear, grinning, "So fucking much y/n."

He tightened his grip on you, pulling you up, your legs hitching around his waist, his hands supporting you from below. You had forgotten how good it was to be held by your husband, how intoxicating his scent was, how it filled your nose and flooded your head with the smell of home.

You looked at your husband again, eyes filled with tears, taking in his image. His sandy hair, his brandy eyes, how he looked at you, how his eyes crinkled up as he looked at you.

And then you kissed him. The kiss was slow, and long; the kind of kiss shared by people who haven't seen each other in such a long time. Bradley set you down, your knees weak at the very sight of him standing there in front of you.

Stretching up on the balls of your feet, you kissed your husband once more, his hands coming to rest on the small of your waist, your hands in his hair. The two of you were together, finally together.

When the kiss had ended, you looked to Bradley with teary eyes, "god," you sighed, wiping the tears from your face, "I love you."

Bradley put his arms around you once again, and kissed the top of your hair, "I love you y/n."

The two of you took a moment in the room to be alone with each other, before stepping out into the hallway, where sally and Amanda, and a couple of the other nurses were conveniently waiting.

"Surprise!" sally grinned, looking at you and rooster.

You looked to sally with wide eyes, "You knew about this?!"

Amanda smiled, "We all knew! It was rooster's idea to surprise you here!"

You smiled at your husband, wrapping your arm around his waist, "The best surprise ever."

So far, I have made at least 5 sims, in a attempt to get a story/gameplay thing going in my save file lol. Every sim that you see me make will be apart of the main story, everyone is connected somehow. I still haven’t gotten around to making my main story sim yet. I been trying to write her character chart out so I can get a sense of how she looks and feels like. I also added sims from other simmers to my story, ima tag them when everything comes together but be prepared for some drama lmao.

i feel like a lot of native asks have come through lately, so here’s mine? in short, i feel conflicted about reconnecting as im more than just a couple of generations separated from my native ancestors.

ive grown up my whole life knowing about my indigenous ancestry and while understanding of the specifics was somewhat limited in the past few years ive managed to learn a lot. however despite all this, i feel as though because my ancestors are so many generations apart from me i don't have the "right" to reconnect? however on the other hand i also feel as though my family has managed to keep many cultural traditions, values, and teachings alive and well in our line. there's a lot of things as to why, from how you're supposed to treat elders, to how to hunt and the honor you owe the animal(s), and even so i have relatives who don't use their birth names but go entirely by nicknames they were given/earned later on, etc. i know blood quantum is made up and such but i feel like/wonder how many generations removed you are from your ancestry has to have some sort of significance? right? i am the first generation out of my family who doesn't live on what is our (forgive me for not knowing the correct term) "traditional homeland", im the first to live in a different state, different areas, etc. i feel like if i don't take the steps to try to get back in contact with our indigenous community then the opportunity may be lost for each generation after me, as im the first who is unlikely to be able to raise children in the community the generations before me had because of where i live now compared to my family. it makes me sad to think that i am potentially leaving behind my ancestors, or choosing a future where i don't remember or honor them and their values but at the same time i can't help but feel like it's unnecessary or unwanted for me to try to reconnect because there are other people who are "more native" who belong more/should have the opportunity over me. i feel like just because i want something doesn't mean i should get to have it? i want to learn more about traditions my family lost and be more in touch with traditional teachings, and arts, and so much more not only just for myself but to be able to pass these things on to my children and truly honor where we came from i just feel conflicted as to whether or not it's my place to (have the opportunity) do so and am looking for some guidance from someone who's been somewhere similar or maybe even the same place? i know that nobody can make any choices for me, but i feel like between you and the community you've built here that could potentially help me somehow- whether it be through everyone's own experiences or just links to places where others have been through something similar and i would be incredibly grateful for that. thank you.

tldr: i worry i am not native enough/too far generationally from my native ancestors to bother reconnecting/be worthy of such an opportunity that i wonder if doing so is something i should even attempt or continue to consider. is there some truth to what i am saying or is it just blood quantum related stuff i should unlearn? are there any other people here who have many generations of separation between them and their indigenous ancestors who would like to weigh in with what they did? etc.

hello there. apart from checking out this blog's reconnecting tag for more advice, remember your culture is yours. it's as simple as that. it's not a pie chart or percentage, it's either something you have by blood or it isn't. your culture is yours because your ancestors are yours and their culture is yours, even with time between you. all those generations mean you have an unbroken ancestoral connection that's complicated, not diluted. adding milk to coffee doesn't mean the coffee isn't there anymore. I can't tell you how to live your life but I like to remind people that blood quantum is a colonial measurement that has nothing useful to say about WHO you are. It was the coloniser's tool. to paraphrase a great saying, the colonisers tools will never dismantle the colonisers house. you will never find reconnection in a paradigm designed for genocide. it's YOUR culture, your community and your family's culture - if you approach your learning and reconnection from a place of treating your initial connection as a fact rather than a fraction, that connection will only become stronger. wishing you all the best! I am!!! Thank you (for putting random shows on my dash to pique my curiosity)! I've probably watched every English speaking drama of this category (modern, medical examiner/crime) and I'm absolutely loving Medical Examiner Dr Qin. I am now ... 6 episodes in.

So far, would highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it (though it came out in 2016? so ... not sure how I haven't discovered before now!)

Li Dabao is an absolute delight and I love everything about her character.

Medical Examiner: Dr Qin Review

To start, thank you @s1utspeare for turning me onto this show.

TL;DR: I loved it, the chemistry between the three main characters was off the charts, and Li Dabao is the most awesome character ever. It is 20 short 30ish minute episodes. For me, it is also very aro/ace friendly.

So I am biased. I have probably watched (or at least checked out), ever american (and probably some english-speaking non-American) show of this category. Mainly modern Crime Scene dramas. This one definitely follows that mold, (beyond some small differences (probably cultural)), this met expectations for it's category 100%.

I will warn this show is... very very gore-y in parts, and much more graphic than American Crime drama's tend to be. So if you don't like seeing blood, dead bodies, and other things involved in autopsies, maybe skip, or be prepared to look away. (I am not kidding, we are talking like Hannibal levels here).

There are three main characters, but I'm going to say, for me, Li DaBao is absolutely the star of the show. She is a woman in a male dominated career, and they don't shy away from making this clear, and making her struggles more obvious than I usually see. As a fellow woman in a male-dominated field, I identified so hard. She at times portrays as more masculine with her style of clothes and hair, perhaps it's to fit in, perhaps it's her own style, and her colleagues refer to her as Bao-ge (brother Bao), which I took as a sign of 'you are one of us' and 'you belong'. (I fully recognize some people may find this problematic, for me I love when my coworkers first assume I am a man, since it means they will respect me. (yay remote work making this possible)).

The friendship between the three characters is just off the charts. There are so many moments they are just THERE for each other, and the way they bounce off each other is just so good. If I could watch this show and it was just 20 episodes of them eating dinner and nothing else, I would love it.

The show is mostly your crime of the week style. (though in typical c-drama fashion I am still confused on why episodes end. Most of the crimes are about 1.5-2.5 episodes long and new cases start in the middle of episodes, so don't watch based on the episodes)

OMG That ending!?! That was the most intense hourish of my life.

The way Qin Ming kneeled without even a hint of hesitation or anything, just, couldn't drop down fast enough. Best kneeling scene I've seen in C-drama.

My other favorite Scene was when Lin Tao tried to set Qin Ming and Li Dabao up, and failed so miserably. I really hope there's fanfic around that.

I also loved Li Dabao going on blind dates, and the anti she had to meet and her absolutely glorious put down of the guy who asked her to change her career. And then we find out it's the 9th time this happened, and it makes her hilarious put-down incredibly sad because it's not that she just pulled that answer out cause she's awesome (which she is), it's because this KEEPS happening. and the Fact the other two mains always went to the same restaurant to watch her, (with her permission and knowledge I'm assuming from the reaction) and commiserated. Just So Great.

Anyways I have a lot of feels. There's just so much.

My #1 post of 2022

Note: Just a little Heroes drabble for my favorite polycule. I might turn it into a real story later but for now have this modern day everyone's happy and together snippet that I keep rereading whenever I remember how the show ended.

“You’re our sword,” Bai Choufei giggled, drunk, “Sheath, I mean sheath. You’re our sheath.”

Bai Choufei swayed into Wang Xiaoshi, before he steadied himself and went stumbling into Su Mengzhen.  Su Mengzhen smiled fondly down at Bai Choufei.

“So many men hugging!” Wen Rou stated, pouting. 

Wang Xiaoshi turned around and enveloped her in a hug.  Her chest was softer than Bai Choufei’s, and he might be a little drunk himself.  Wen Rou pushed him away and he let himself be pushed, worried for a moment, before he spotted her smile and she playfully shoved him.  He playfully shoved her back.  

Lei Chun rolled her eyes from where she was sitting at the kitchen table doing… something studiously, perhaps the only sober one, though with Su Mengzhen you really could never tell.

Wen Rou wandered off, distracted apparently by Lei Chun’s ‘perfectly shiny smooth hair’.  Wang Xiaoshi watched her go, content.

“Sap,” Bai Choufei said from beside him and mustled up his hair.  Wang Xiaoshi smiled up at him.

Wang Xiaoshi woke up slowly, head aching.  He carefully extricated himself from Wen Rou’s arms and Bai Choufei’s legs, sliding out the end of the bed.  Su Mengzhen and Lei Chun were both still surprisingly asleep, usually they got up before him, and they had perhaps been the most sober the night before.

He wandered into the kitchen and spotted Yang Wuxie in the kitchen.  Yang Wuxie spotted him and poured him a large mug of tea from  the teapot at his elbow and shook out an aspirin from the pill bottle next to it.

“Thanks Zhushi,” Wang Xiaoshi mumbled.  Perhaps it was weird to  call your boyfriend’s boyfriend’s boyfriend ‘advisor’, but the nickname had long since stuck.  It was probably odder to have a bed that fit six (custom made), and a relationship so complicated it required flow charts anyways.  “Ugh remind me not to get into a drinking contest with Wen Rou again.”

Yang Wuxie had the gal to laugh at that.  “I think you’ll find I did.  Last night.”

Wang Xiaoshi groaned.  Every time.

anatomy tips for anon

(someone asked me for this but tumblr ate the ask lol so I’ll just answer it here)

hi anon, I actually really struggle with anatomy so i was kinda surprised to get this ask hdjsksjs but i hope my answer is at least somewhat helpful!

first of all, there are a million methods for drawing a full body. some people like sketching out a skeleton first and building on top of it, some people start with a super loose/flowy general shape of the pose, some people use ovals or 3D boxes or cylinders—i'd recommend looking at various tutorials and trying them out to see what works for you!

unfortunately none of those methods worked very well for me,, i found them kinda cumbersome and counterintuitive so I usually end up just like. going for it lol. I don’t really have a System cause my method is honestly just “try your best, hold back the tears, fix it until it looks as passable as you can get it” DHJSKS but idk maybe it will help you to see my "process" lol

(ok i've never done a speed drawing thing before so i'm about to Expose Myself but im doing this for you anon haha)

(putting the rest under a cut bc it's long, sorry lol)

as u can see, it's a lot of trial and error for me. you may have noticed how i redrew every single thing like 50 times, how i initially made her arm ridiculously long and had to shorten it, how i general just Abused the lasso and warp tools....the list goes on haha. the point is, i make a lot of mistakes and my final products are still very flawed, but that's okay because i know i'm getting better the more i practice! if you scroll back through my art tag you will see some anatomical horrors that would make picasso cry, but at the time i was really proud of them LKJDFSKJLF

ok let me break it down a bit

i usually start with the head, neck, and like a vague indication of the shoulders lol. then i add these slightly angled lines to build the torso from and leave a little gap so i can come back for the arms

then I add the legs!

i used to be so allergic to legs lol but i've been drawing them more lately and i decided i actually kind of love them?? who'd have thought. (but not feet. dni)

here are some basic examples of how i draw legs. keep in mind that i am still learning and these are not like the best examples ever! i don't tend to put a lot of detail in my anatomy and mainly stick to very simple lines and curves, partially because i prefer a simpler style and partially bc i currently lack the skill to be fancier about it lol

i usually start with basically two lines slanted slightly inward for the upper leg and then for the lower leg i do a straighter line and a line with a bump for the calf. pay attention to what direction the knee is facing because that will determine where your bumps go

once i've got the legs, i have the basis of the pose in place, so i add the arms

shoulders are a weird struggle for me lol but i usually add like a little circle or triangle to indicate the joint so i can attach the arms. and then i build the arms kinda similar to how i do the legs—like with two slanted lines and then the bump for the lower arm

once I’ve got the whole body down, there is usually a fair amount of adjustment haha. I gotta ask, does the pose actually work? like, where is the character putting their weight, and does the pose make sense that way? are the legs and arms and torso the proper length and width? and then at some point after a lot of fiddling i give up and voila, done :)

as far as proportions goes, my advice is to pay attention but not sweat too much about it. I used to try to like Vitruvian Man it lol and count how many heads tall the character was and try to be super precise about the proportions according to one of those proportion chart things. and ofc that stuff helpful and important to know! but in the end, worrying that much about it was a hindrance for me and I ended up with really stiff and unnatural-looking poses. so I mostly just follow a couple rules of thumb:

1. The elbow should hit around the waist/mid-torso

2. The arm, fully extended, usually hits the upper thigh. like, wrist at crotch level I guess?

3. The length of the legs is like roughly equalish to the length of the the whole upper body (head to bottom of hips)

these are just basics and not very Scientific haha but that’s vaguely what I go for. also remember that proportions can be pretty stylistic too! for example, a real human body is normally like 8 heads tall, but I probably do like 6ish heads normally. that’s pretty common for more cartoony styles, and the bigger heads also make the character look younger bc kid proportions are different than adult proportions. just kinda play around with it and go with what feels natural and good for the character you’re drawing

if you feel like your pose is stiff and weird rather than natural/dynamic, it often helps to make sure the shoulders and hips are tilted slightly at opposite angles. that's a tip i picked up from this tumblr tutorial a long time ago and i always come back to it, haha

ok that's about all i have for specifics but i have just 2 general tips to end with:

1. Use!!! References!!! seriously. i use references every time i draw. i look at photos of real people and screenshots from the show and i even sometimes take pictures of myself for reference. often i'm using multiple references for one drawing, like piecing together elements of various refs to create the pose i want, but sometimes i work from a single reference. i also study my favorite artists' work pretty frequently to see how they do things. getting familiar with what good art and real life looks like will help you get better at mimicking it and noticing when things are off.

2. Be patient with yourself. You’re gonna mess up a lot. Sometimes you may even post something and realize months later that you made chat noir’s upper arm literally twice as long as it should be :/

but fear not! you don’t have to live forever in the shadow of Long Arm Chat! lol. you will get better just by trying, I promise.

Part of the process of making art you like is making a lot of art that you don't like, or art that you like at first but hate later. Your skills and your eye are developing simultaneously, and sometimes your eye passes up your skills, so that you're better at noticing your mistakes even if you struggle to fix them. that's okay! that gap can be really frustrating and discouraging, but it's still a sign of growth and your skill will catch up. just keep studying, keep drawing, and keep having fun! it gets better, seriously. when i first started drawing like two years ago, i thought i'd never be able to do a passable full-body pose. it was SO hard. and it's still hard for me! but i can do it much better now than i could then, and when i get bummed out about my limitations, it helps me to remember that even though i still have a long way to go to get where i want to be, i've also come a long way. and you will too! if your current self could see what your future self can do, you'd be so impressed 😌

P.S. just to reiterate, I am Not an expert At All and these are just some methods/tips that are working pretty well for me right now. i hope they help you out too, but my methods may not be the best fit for you, and if that's the case, don't sweat. try out a lot of stuff and see what clicks and makes sense. art is a learning process and it's so individual so i encourage you to experiment!

Ok admittedly- I only JUST read little white lies. Because I am a soft hearted coward. And hurt feelings hurts MY feelings :((

Great writing AS PER USUAL FI. My official review is that my brain fucking hurts 🤡 I don’t know what’s going on.

My small(ish) list of theories/thoughts so far is that

1. Chan likes reader. (And I think he’s doing a dumb thing like ✨ alas ✨ I cannot have the one I love so I must 😩🤙 settle. We hate to see it.)

2. ^ the above is completely thrown off by Chan being like “oh yeah my hot fiancé doesn’t find you a threat at all”. Is that because he’s given up on the reader??? Maybe she’s dumb I don’t know

3. Hyunjin can step off. I’m not pleased with him atm. Sure he’s being a nice friend occasionally, HOWEVER he’s very clearly using the reader to take a dig at Chan and it’s pissing me off because she’s!! Not privy to that!!! She doesn’t know no better!!!

4. What the fuck even happened between Chan/Hyunjin/Burberry wearing ass fiancé. There is no theory. There is only pain I experience for Chan.

5. I can’t even begin to explain to you how much the Changbin conversation confused me. Like if Chan likes the reader I would say he Clearly didn’t tell Changbin about it. In which case Why is Changbin so mad that Hyunjin is going to the wedding with the reader specifically. I’m crying what the FUCK happened.

6. I know for a fact this bitch is gonna fall for the reader (Hyunjin) so like??? If this doesn’t end in poly I genieunly have no idea what I’m gonna do with myself. Everybody should just be happy and get along 😭😭😭

Seriously though my brain is just like fucking- alphabet soup. There is no coherent thought, only my brain making the occasional unhelpful word and then back to tv static gibberish.

HA, i'm sure it's not a spoiler to say that in this hyunjin fic, hyunjin (the bitch) does fall for reader. has fallen? will fall for? the journey is interesting, i hope. and you're right, everyone should just be happy and get along. that's why if you'll turn your attention to this complicated interconnected polycule chart, you'll see--
