on Hawkeye and Charles and “Going Too Far”

So I remember back in... I want to say season 2 or 3... Hawkeye and Trapper recorded Margaret and Frank without their knowing and broadcast it over the camp -- I can’t remember the exact context, but it was deeply personal (and I believe sexual too), and Margaret was humiliated

and I think that’s the first time we get a clear, canon indication (and not just personal feelings) that sometimes Hawkeye goes too far. We even get the “I was too busy going too far” line

I feel like right now Hawkeye is going... very far. And it’s not necessarily something the show itself is doing (I think) to foreshadow a careening off the cliff type of thing, though I do choose to read it in that direction, because eventually he will, I’m sure....

first we had the episode where he crashes the peace-talks, still wearing his bloodied surgery clothes, as an impulsive reaction to finding out that he won’t be allowed to go home when he thought he would. and he very much doesn’t face any punishment for that (not in the moral sense, but I was really wondering how the military would react to that... interesting that it was treated as a non-issue, and I’ll get back to that in a bit)

and now we’ve had the episode in which Charles goes non-verbal (Charles goes non-verbal!!!!!) because he’s feeling... very very similar feelings to Hawkeye’s in above-mentioned episode. He’s watching his life slip away from him, the life he wanted to lead, in favour of something he never consented to do, in a place he never consented to be in

and when BJ and Hawkeye needle him, because they both -- but honestly I think especially Hawkeye and BJ follows his lead (because when Hawkeye wasn’t there BJ and Charles briefly found some common ground....) -- have a tendency to mark people down as “Good and therefore their feelings are worth respecting” or “Bad and therefore their feelings are not worth respecting”

so when Charles does something that is entirely within his right and totally inoffensive -- goes non-verbal, because he’s done with everything -- they take it as a personal challenge from someone they don’t quite see as Good/A Person, rather than as an expression of someone wishing to have his boundaries respected

and they absolutely go too far. messing with Charles like they do is probably the worst thing either of them has done on the show so far (I think... I’d need to watch back to the first three seasons, because some of the stuff against Margaret was quite nasty -- although the animosity there had a different, deeper flavour to the general “we just don’t get on” happening with Charles, it was still rooted in sexism a lot of the time)

I think the episode places the right with Charles, but it doesn’t quite respect the weight his feelings either -- he’s angry and the episode says “that’s fair, and now you got your own back, the end (until next time),” but if we’re doing some deeper analysis into how it might actually feel for him, I think you can easily read some deep loneliness (he’s disliked by everyone, even though he often does try), alienation (for all some of his stuff is snobbishness, he genuinely doesn’t have much of anything in common with most people here and he gets shut out when he tries to bond with what he’s got to bond with... awkwardly enough maybe he actually does have a lot in common with Hawkeye, but neither of them are ready for that acknowledgement), and overwhelm in a situation he’s completely unequipped for -- and a lot of all of that is so autistic coded, it may as well just be canon (NON VERBAL!???)

and then he’s not even allowed the decency of being left alone

I wonder how this dynamic will continue, because I’m 99% sure that they’ll be friends eventually, and also that this won’t be referred to again, but there definitely is some work that Hawkeye and BJ need to do to meet Charles halfway, because taking away Charles’ “Charles-ness” in order for him to be friends with them would flatten his character... so I’m interested in how that will happen

Charles isn’t Frank Burns. When Hawkeye and BJ mess with him the tone is much nastier, because Charles -- while he’s not always a saint and did a couple of things in season 6 (although I think only early on) -- isn’t actually someone who has any power over them in return, nor does he -- these days -- tend to abuse what power he has. At worst he’s standoffish and cares overly much about rich-people “propriety,” but it’s not actually anything that can do anything to anyone here

also I think this is very in-character for Hawkeye, in the sense that it’s got precedence -- indulging (and not being given any reason to consider the repercussions of) his unhealthier manic impulsiveness, in both of these episodes, is something we’ve seen happen before

and it not being recognised as unhealthy behaviour/in the second example bullying (in the same way as Charles isn’t being recognised on his own terms either) because of the exact opposite (but same) reason to Charles -- “oh that’s just Hawkeye, he’s like that sometimes and then you reel him in again and laugh about it.” Again, not necessarily what the show is intending, but hey, he’s recently been told that he won’t be able to go home, it fits very nicely with how one might expect him to act out

and unfortunately Charles feels like he’s in the crossfires of Hawkeye’s own issues -- makes you wonder who the antagonist is (well, neither of them, but it’s complicated)

Okok so it's all over the place but i was definitely thinking about the a crossover now that Mattel and Disney are partners again.

So my idea was like, wibbly wobbly mirror stuff happening and most of the EAH cast end up in Wonderland. They're confused at first bc its not the WL they know. Even more so, they're thrown into NRC and are confused.

But unlike Yuu, they get placed into their corresponding dorms (with characters like Cherise being in savanahclaw, cedar in prolly octa or hearts).

Now here is where shit gets fucky. Their history's conflicting. I think the most interesting ones will be Raven and Faybelle since the QoH is just kooky and villanized bc shes neurodivergent.

Raven and Apple (and Hunter ig) in Pomefiore

Id imagine that Raven would be the most conflicted on the queen since her mother is a POS. There are rumors around the school that they are descendants to the corresponding historical figures. Her relationship with Vil would start pretty strained since their personalities would conflict so intensely. Vil being straight laced and no nonsense while Raven is pretty easygoing and expressive. Plus, Raven improvises a lot so it would make him wonder if she truly belongs. But the mirror doesn't lie. It holds more truth than anyone realizes.

Plus the whole "beautiful" thing got lost on Raven so she probably won't gel with keeping up appearances.

Raven would probably get along with Epel but not Rook. Epel is often misunderstood like she is and I think that he'd connect with her on not fitting in. Rook is just weird and...I almost forgot about Hunter that shit would be hilarious. Hunter would def learn how to be a better hunter but at what cost?

Apple and Vil would get along too well. Rather than seeing her as another Neige, he would give her more credit to her underlying poison. Much like Raven's mom, Vil would straight up call her out on how it's a facade for how "evil" she is underneath. It would certainly shake her. She's relentless. She was made for Pome. The most compelling story here would be Apple realizing her dark side and being "a villain".

Im getting a kind of School of Good/Evil vibe from this dynamic but given that morality isnt black and white, it would be about accepting the dark side of your personality while maintaining the light in you. Nobody is perfect, not even the beautiful.

Briar and Faybelle in Diasomnia

Ok so I am very tilted with how Fay and Briar get shafted in the original series. Faybelle rarely shows up except to be the butt of a joke. Briar is is gonna sleep longer than Apple and her friends just joke about that shit even tho everyone will be dead when she wakes up. But I digress.

Faybelle would look up to Malleus especially because he's connected to the dark fairy just as much as she is and he's fuckin OP. It leaves her...feeling less than. Her mother would most certainly value Mal over her. And it would put her in a bit of a depression. Her magic isn't as strong and coupled with her conflicting aspirations, Fay would feel as if she may as well give up. She's been beaten by someone who isnt even from the same realm as her.

Mal of course would notice this and be a pretty good grandson shoulder to cry on. After all, she's doing her best and still gets no credit. Fay is also lonely and rarely gets invited anywhere (cursed). She has great potential and pleasing her mother will hold her back. Since she's not a princess, she also doesn't have to shoulder a responsibility that would inhibit her from being a cheerleader and a powerful fae.

The arc for faybelle would be her overcoming her fears and being her own person rather than imitating her heroes. I think lilia would also help in that too since he's fascinated by her.

Fay would get along with Silver since hes so low maintenance but Sebek would bother her simply bc hes annoying. He would probably err on the side of caution and regard her with similar respect as he does with Mal. And it bugs her over time. Thsts the joke with that.

Briar would be a little sore about being in Diasomnia. She doesn't look like she fits in with the aesthetic and being around intimidating fairies would be new for her. But I think she would find her stride. To her surprise, she's a powerful and great mage, but it would also be hard for her to accept. In the back of her mind, she'd wonder if following Apple as a Royal was worth keeping up with. Briar is just different from her friends and she's been denying that even though she sabotaged legacy day by throwing the book into the well.

Briar would probably ask to train with Silver and Sebek. Apparently shes surrounded by brothers amd she does have a sort of rough-and-tumble personality if it means having a new experience. Thatd be the most fun for her and i think she and Silver would prolly fall asleep all over the place together. Oh, she'd also like to hang out with Kalim and try to get into Scarabia, but before she can actually finish the paperwork for all that shit, she'd figure out that she was already in the right place.

Miscellaneous thoughts

Really quickly, the Wonderland kids would most likely see a bit of a power struggle between Lizzie and Riddle. Not because they're both Like That, but because their rules are slightly different. They really do have the same temperament to the T so as long as they compromise on the nuances of the rules, they'd co-lead pretty well. Honestly, theyd have the most wholesome of interactions and Riddle would probably be a little envious about her relationship with her mom. There is nothing but love there and he wished he got that kind of affection from his own mother.

Cherise and Ramona end up in Savanaclaw of course. This is how people find out they are sisters and Leona would feel some type of way about the royal/rebel thing. He'd think its a dumb conflict but he'd def be a rebel in their eyes. Also he'd be recruiting the girls for his team since they are really good at it.

Cedar would maybe be in Octa, but shed struggle with the tweels and azul being privy to her truth-telling. On the one hand, she'd be an asset to the lounge. On the other, she'd be a liability to the lounge. They would have to purposefully omit information from her so that it doesn't get used against them. And despite being in Octa, she and Ortho would be besties for sure. They're the same in plenty of ways but Ortho would point out that she can do things human girls cant. And she's also plenty real already despite being wood. That'd be the heart of her development. Something like that would be hard to accept up front but in time, Cedar would realize it.

Speaking of which, Cupid is in Ignihyde. She'd be a fucking menace to all those incels and especially Idia who wants to avoid everyone. Theyd def find conflict in one another and Cupid is nothing if not persistent. If he won't love anyone else, he could at least stand to love himself. This would be a comedic side plot. Dexter is also in Ignihyde.

Brooke is in Ramshackle with Yuu. Thankfully she has her own magic so she need not be 1/3 a student. She's fine with this but losing her omnipotence and being able to write her own story is kind of mindblowing to her. Think of one of us being isekai'd into our fav tale. Brooke is just us in that regard. As much as I don't like Brooke, I think she would be the reason all this happened.

I’m so glad they’ve decided to make soulless Sam funny. Mean, yeah. But funny all the same

I’m gonna have to sit for a while with this conversation they’re having about Sam needing to fake having empathy for people. If it wasn’t because he LITERALLY HAS NO SOUL, it would be a really interesting coding for being neurodivergent and being forced to mask again after unmasking because you were accused of lying or being fake. Now Dean wants Sam to fake having empathy again. He tells Dean that he USED TO pick and choose the exact right words to say but that then Dean wanted him to be honest, so he stopped and he realized how exhausting it was to keep that mask on. Just wish he wasn’t soulless…

Dean sure did get abducted…I’d ask Sam if he feels bad about mocking him over the phone, but we all know the answer to that

hi! im a radfem who is neurodivergent and somewhat disabled because of it, so how am i ableist? how are radfems as a whole ableist?

I'm going to be patient with you because you're 16 and neurodivergent.

Because when a TERF disagrees with me and other trans and nonbinary people they call us crazy. They call us insane. I once had to deal with HOURS of TERFs calling crazy, insane, mentally ill, and the r-slur.

THEY CALL US MENTALLY ILL.

Why do you want to be associated with that kind of toxicity? Look. I get trans wasn't right for you. You thought you were trans, it wasn't right, you detransitioned. But for a lot of people being trans was the most liberating feeling. They are honestly a lot more mentally healthy than I am.

And answer this. Why is it crossing the line when a TERF is abelist, but you seem to gloss over me calling them racist?

Look. I have panic attacks, major depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Yeah. I AM mentally ill. Why do you want to be associated with a group that demonizes my problems to attack people they disagree with?

And because I know the TERFs who reblogged me recently, yeah. 100% if you found my blog from one of your radfem mutuals, then they were one of the ones calling trans people mentally ill ON MY POSTS.

I am mentally ill. And no, that's not a good thing, but damn it. How the fuck am I supposed to feel when people are using problems I struggle every damn day with to attack perfectly healthy people?

(Also to our followers. I'm good. I've dealt with worse than a bunch of dipshits trivializing my mental health issues. My own brain says worse to me every damn day, hence the depression. I'd just just people to acknowledge it for the serious issue that it is.)

...ugh. why is it always *this shit*, and never: humans are becoming actually healthier overall, which allows us to hit puberty earlier (another thing that they blame on the nebulous idea of ‘’’’chemicals’’’’) and stay fertile longer, and its been proven that the later in your life your have children, the more likely your children will have neurodivergency like autism. im sure this video has good points and yes, there are a variety of environmental, genetic and neurological factors that go into someone being autistic. YES, AUTISM CAN BE DEBILITATING BUT HONESTLY??? most of the time when i see ‘’’’low functioning’’’’ autistic people its more often the fault of their caretakers never alllowing them to be themselves, never allowing any independence because of preconcieved ideas of autistic people being childlike and useless, and never giving them the proper accomodations and treating them like some kind of freak of a nature and ‘having the mental age of __insert age here___’ that shit is so damaging to ANYONE, you treat anyone like a failure and a freak of nature and like something is wrong with them and that they will always be non-functional, guess what, you just created a self fullfilling prophecy!!!!

but i hate that autism is always treated like the horrible end result of modern society and it didnt exist before ‘chemicals’ and ‘vaccines’. also no one ever mentions autistic people have always been around, it just went from ‘little jimmy isnt talking so we abandoned him in the forest so the fae will take him back and give us back our normal child’ to ...sadly not much better “my child is autistic and so im going to torment them into being what i see as a ‘normal’ child...omg why does my autistic child hate me????’ but my point is that we have the knowledge and the vocabulary to actually label autism instead of just blaming the local forest spirits and killing your kid. Topic: Indigo/Starseed Children

Why I’m Mad About It: The Indigo Child trend was started in the 1970s and is really just a modernization of the Changeling myth. I have no problem with people who communicate with the fae or whatever, but by and large the characteristics of Indigo Children/Starseeds are almost exactly the same as characteristics for autistics/adhd people. I understand that there are Indigo Children who aren’t adhd/autistic, but there are numerous cases of parents CHOOSING to call their kids Indigo Children/Starseed instead of having them diagnosed with adhd/autism. The parents recognize those adhd/autism symptoms and don’t want to “deal with” an adhd/autistic child so they label them Indigo/Starseed instead. These children don’t receive the treatment they need and instead are told that they have a “higher purpose” and are “special and magical”. And even worse, some see Indigo Children/Starseeds as LITERAL ALIENS who have half space DNA and half Earth DNA. They look at kids who have a hard time wither authority, who are deeply emotional/sensitive, and often work with a purpose, and label them aliens because they “don’t act like regular humans”. This is such bullshit I can’t even. IM NOT A FUCKING ALIEN. IM JUST NEURODIVERGENT. AND DONT TELL ME I “HAVE A HIGHER PURPOSE”. THAT PUTS SO MUCH PRESSURE ON A KID!

hey, yall!!!

this is Clay. My path has been feeling... muddled as of late. ive been feeling less and less like an actual human being and ive decided to honor that.

so im coming out, in a sense, as a changeling.

IF HEARING ABOUT HISTORICAL ABUSES TOWARDS NEURODIVERSE CHILDREN IS A TRIGGER, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND DONT READ FURTHER.

i think a lot of it has to do with neurodivergency. Historically, changeling is a term used by humans as a way to think they could "fix" their nd children- by beating or burning the "bad fae spirits" out of them.

we all know that thats bullshit parenting- there were several cases of parents actually- heres a BIG TW- burned their children to death because they thought their "real child" was taken by the fair folk. in reality, they just.... took the life of one of their own because they acted a little differently.

if you don't belive that its because people were ND, some of the criteria for thinking a child or family member were a changeling are:

Unusual behavior, such as dancing or jumping around when they think no one is looking (stimming)

sudden radical changes in behavior or disposition (depression, bipolar, other various conditions)

having an odd head to body ratio (points to neurological conditions)

As a pagan, I've always had a fascination with the fair folk. i feel more at home in my garden, in the woods, in medows then i ever have in one building.

I think that ND people like me have been unfair targets of prosecution, made to feel like we arent human, and im saying, "fuck it. Im NOT human."

I don't think it'll offend the fae, ive communed with some kindred spirits and they agree.

Ooh speaking of faeries, here's an au: Valentine wants to find tir na nog and drive out the inhabitants so humans can live there and be immortal. Magnus decides to stop him. Unfortunately he's not used to modern society, no magic, shoes are required, men's clothes are boring, people talk in riddles and gender is mostly seen as binary. Autistic Alec works here too, since we used to be seen as changelings, which could translate to understanding faeries and their mindset. Lucky Magnus :).

I love this last part??? like it's so brilliant to take this and make it officially part of the lore, your mind????? perfect

also this whole au sounds brilliant and super cute and interesting as a whole, and also honestly i like how it lowkey parallels with the show because i think the fact that alec is so straightforward with his feelings is one of the things that help magnus open up to him, you know? like hes been feeling like every new relationship or human interaction with anyone is playing this character, going along with this game, and its tiring and makes him feel on edge and also kind of helps him not be himself? like its easier to put up walls if you're always playing a game. but Alec is never playing games, has no interest in them, he says what he means and means what he says and all of magnus' seduction games are pointless to him, and so Magnus is forced to not pretend, but he can not pretend because he knows that Alec is just always being honest and himself with him? like i think that Alec's autism/autistic traits is one of the things that made Magnus able to connect with him initially, that made them click and understand each other, just like in this au. so i do love this parallel

also i just love the idea of Magnus and the neurodivergent squad saving the world you know didndkd I'm imagining that like, Magnus took Meliorn with them cuz i mean duh, fae, and i also hc Raphael as autistic so im picturing them four in this mission, Raphael and Alec acting as sorta the "diplomats" for them (because they have experience trying to "pass" and surviving neurotypical bullshit that Magnus and Meliorn, as fae, don't) and just drawing all these new relationships and it's amazing for them all because meliorn and magnus get some help and woah who could have thought there would be humans with sense and the ability to do things a smart way? and Raphael and Alec get to take a fucking break from NT bullcrap so everybody wins. also love happens because I'm a whore, just aaaaaaaa i love this djdndkdm
