something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

What is a favorite fandom headcanon for you?
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer within a certain amount of time or at all.*
Chamber is a good person.
No, actually. This maybe falls outside the realm of headcannon, per se -- it's more like an interpretation that I really like, rather than an entirely new thing that I'm making up based on pre-existing material, but the definition of headcannon varies so much that it still probably counts. I think the most interesting version of his character would be one that is deeply, deeply haunted by the Everett-Linde incident but can't bring himself to regret it because it was necessary to prevent a greater tragedy. Whatever that "greater tragedy" is hasn't been revealed, but it seems like it's still lurking on the horizon. It might have to do with Fade's apocalypse/nightmare visions.
There is some backing for this interpretation! On the signage and displays on the Fracture/Everett-Linde map in-game, there's a lot of references to the Odyssey, including the phrase "between Scylla and Charybdis." It's reference to a choice that Odysseus is forced to make that will result in a bad ending either way. The modern equivalents of the phase might be "to choose the lesser of two evils." The same phase is also the name of a card that features Chamber. The implication, therefore, is that he made a similar choice instead of one that was selfishly motivated. A lot of this was noticed and analyzed first by Strawberry79 on Twitter, and I found it pretty compelling and adopted it.
I see a lot of people characterize Chamber as either flat-out evil/extremely manipulative and completely unsympathetic OR sympathetic but woobified/sadboy and I don't really vibe with either of those interpretations? The former feels like it lacks nuance and the latter sucks the fun out of his character, which is that he is deceptive and charming and always wearing a mask. Forcing him to drop the mask is PEAK emotional turmoil and character development. And romance. Rewards of being loved vs moritifcation of being known etc. i love subjecting my blorbos to pain
A short list of other headcannons I have about Chamber that do not require an essay:
his parents died when he was young-ish (late teens) and he spent the rest of his childhood and some of his early adulthood with an aunt and uncle
He listens to Nina Simone and Sade
He's a classically trained pianist (not a headcannon). No one realized this until Gekko brought a cheap keyboard with him when he moved in and Chamber started idly playing it while they were setting it up. Gekko, who shares very little else with Chamber, goes to him with questions about music theory from time to time and Chamber is always happy to answer them.
For only moderately self-centered reasons, Chamber likes to teach about things. He's hosted a handful of seminars about nanotech before, and was similarly happy to talk with Gekko about music and piano technique.
The younger agents make a lot of jokes about him behind his back that they'd never make to his face. They're all more intimidated by him than they'd really like to admit. It's the tie, probably.
This one took a while to answer because I had to sit on it for a bit! I could absolutely write a longer essay on this but I'm going to curtail it. For now. Thanks for the ask!

can you explain the alex palou situation please. i don't follow indycar but i need to know the tea
Ok so I'll try to explain it but it's quite a complicated situation. This is all I know and can remember at this point.
Back in 2022 Chip Ganassi Racing, the team he was driving for at that moment. Had announced they had taken the option on Alex's contract so he would be staying with the team for the 2023 season.
However a little after that Alex Palou released a series of tweets stating that this wasn't true. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to Alex as said CGR used a quote that wasn't his. And specifies he does not intend to continue with the team after 2022
Just after Alex his Twitter thread, McLaren announces Alex will be driving for the team in 2023.
However CGR still stays with their press release and says Alex Palou is under contract through the 2023 season.
A few days after this rumours surface that Palou would be benched for the remaining IndyCar races. This however did not end up happening. What did happen is Palou saying his access to team date had been restricted.
Not too long after CGR files a civil lawsuit
Tumblr media
Alex his lawyers state that by filing a lawsuit, CGR is impacting Alex his F1 opportunity for the worse.
CGR dropped the lawsuit and on September 14 2022 it was announced Palou and CGR would stay together for the 2023 season. This included a blessing to test Formula 1 cars with McLaren.
After this the news died down a little. It seemed Palou would drive his last season for CGR in 2023 and would then move to McLaren. However recently it appeared Alex Palou has informed the team he "does not intend to honor his contractual obligations," according to a statement from McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown given to IndyStar.
To thicken the plot. His management team wasn't notified of this either. Monaco Increase Management said Palou last spoke to his management on 9 August and hasn't returned any calls since. And hadn't mentioned any intention to not honor the contract he had with McLaren. Since then he hadn't returned any calls or messages and thus released this statement.
Tumblr media
Chip Ganassi released a statement Saturday saying: "I grew up respecting the McLaren Team and their success. The new management does not get my same respect. ... Simply stated, the position of McLaren IndyCar regarding our driver is inaccurate and wrong; he remains under contract with CGR."
During this season he has represented McLaren at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami and has tested the car in Hungary.
Yasukawa, Palou's former manager has confirmed that he's now in charge of his contractual affairs.
This next text is all from IndyStar:
Earlier this summer, IndyStar was told by a source close to the parties' negotiations that in McLaren's signed contract with Palou existed a clause listing a date (believed to be July 31) before which the driver could have released himself from his future deal with McLaren if he had landed an offer for a 2024 F1 ride. Should an F1 offer have come in after that date, Palou would've been required to have McLaren loan him out (or arrange for McLaren to be paid some level of a buyout) in order for Palou to be driving anywhere other than Arrow McLaren during the 2024 racing season.
As Palou told reporters Thursday, no offer for a 2024 F1 ride had been made to Palou before he informed McLaren of his decision to back out of his multi-year deal. Pertinent to Friday's news, IndyStar also reported earlier this summer that CGR had extended Palou a new, sizable seven-figure contract offer in the midst of the runaway championship leader's run of three consecutive wins and four in a five-race span.
After this the news died down again for a few days but it has since been revealed McLaren has filed a lawsuit against Alex Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing driver's racing entity and also ALPA Racing USA, LLC.
This is still recent news so all can be found here:

Not sure if it's okay to send you this ask but I actually feel the same way you do about the end of vol 3 and I've been feeling pretty alone about it. I haven't said much because I don't want to seem like I'm being mean about the movie. I think my issue is the team hasn't spent years and years together. Most of them were snapped for 5 years. When they came back Gamora was dead and then Peter was clearly left suffering and dealing with the trauma for a while. I can live with the idea of "we've all grown to need time apart and want to do our own things" but I don't think the build up and execution was there. Not just for those on the team but also 2014 Gamora who was literally just coming back to the story and finally getting to see who these people were and what her life was once about. Then it's over and it doesn't feel like enough of a resolution. I also don't love how Gamora was treated which is a whole other topic but I disliked how it seems like there hasn't been any issue with her death for anyone but Peter. There doesn't even seem to be any memories of her lingering with the team. I have so many thoughts around this that I'll be thinking about it for a while but man, she was murdered by her abuser and most of her family are victims of abuse and I dont think the aftermath has been handled very well at all. Mostly I think there needed to be another movie In between Endgame and vol 3 to hash out what happened in Infinity War/Endgame and to progress some of the characters more and build up to the more Rocket focused ending where they all part ways. Or vol 3 needed to not be quite as focused on Rocket. Not saying he shouldn't have the most focus, just scale it back a little because other things desperately needed attention.
Oh it's absolutely fine to send an ask about this!!! I'm always up for a discussion, and honestly, it makes me feel better that I'm not the only person not completely happy with the ending, solidarity my friend.
I want to preface this all with I DON'T hate the film, and I thought it was way better on a 2nd viewing, but I really don't think it's a crime to criticize it because nothing is perfect (Vol. 1 + 2 aren't either) But Vol. 3 really has some deeply ingrained issues that should've been dealt with, or at the very least acknowledged, because as it is they really stand out, especially on a second viewing or if you've marathoned all the films together, and they literally drag the film down.
Gunn said on Twitter in response to something that he wanted Vol. 3 to be able to stand on its own without the viewer needing to have seen the other films (and by extension IW+EG) but that is so unhinged when it's literally titled as the third in the series at this point lol. Like it's extremely weird to have let IW+EG affect the Guardians as much as they did and then not even try and deal with the aftermath of it all in the last film featuring (almost) everyone together... ???
He's made it clear Rocket is his favorite and that he only came back to do Vol. 3 because he wanted to finish his story, I don't doubt that's true even if I think having a single character be more important than the others is the wrong choice and leaves the whole story as a trilogy a bit lopsided. But even so, if that's the case then it's crazy to not even have Rocket's thoughts on all of these things that've happened in the last decade as if it wouldn't be traumatic to lose your loved ones for years, and how hard it would be to readjust to life after it all. I kind of can't see him letting everyone leave so easily at the very end, especially after he almost died, so I'm just left feeling confused at the choice at best and vaguely unsatisfied at worst.
Maybe Gunn didn't have as much control over their appearances in IW+EG as he says he did. Maybe they really did completely derail the road to Vol. 3 and he just won't admit it, but the film as it is doesn't help in any way by pretending nothing there happened at all. I don't see any logical reason for the audience to just go along with "For some reason Gamora left, she might've died but also maybe not, who knows. Peter is sad and the rest of the team want to move onto something else. " and then the only hint at that last part is... Mantis telling Peter to go see his grandpa, so that leads to everyone else having a change in goals too, huh. I know it's not meant to be forever, and we're to assume everyone keeps in contact with each other, but the ending really makes it feel like no, we'll never all be together again, so bah.
And concerning Gamora, I agree with what you've said. I could write an entire book with my issues of her overall treatment in the narrative and the implications of her character from the comics getting adapted like this, but I'll spare you the speech and just say the TLDR is everything starting from IW onwards concerning her (the specific framing around her murder and then time travel bringing in 2014-Gamora, and the complete lack of acknowledgement about either version of her from the rest of the team) never should've happened. It's all such a mind-boggling choice, I can't get over how much of an afterthought Gunn made her at the very last minute.
It's funny you mention the need for another film to deal with the emotional fallout of everything post-Vol. 2, because absolutely, but they kind of had the chance??? I realize the Holiday Special isn't film length and is meant to be the calm before the storm of everything that's to come, but in a post-Vol. 3 world I can't stop thinking about how it was SUCH a missed opportunity to not have that be the sobering moment for the characters to talk about everything that happened in the years everyone was snapped. It could've even been the perfect time to plant the metaphorical plot seeds of everyone wanting to go and do their own things after what happened because they just can't make life feel the exact same as it was before, and understanding things can never be the same after something like that.
Even the last lines of the song used in the Holiday Special feels more appropriate for the Guardians as a family struggling to keep it all together (and trying to deal with the sudden loss of Gamora) than it relates to Peter and Yondu, in my opinion.
Tumblr media
I would have preferred a more out-there story in general, something to give everyone equal stakes in the plot, but I do think Vol. 3 could have stayed overall the same if any of this was addressed or even mentioned in one or two lines of dialogue somewhere. Because as it is, it really feels like we missed something important between it all, but we didn't from what we we've been shown. I don't think it would have killed Gunn to include a quick moment where someone just says to Peter "I miss her too and I get everything's been way harder lately, but you can't let it grind your life to a complete halt like this." or something!! ANYTHING!!!
And if we absolutely had to stick with the time displaced Gamora plot... When she was snooping around on the Bowie by herself i dont get why she didn't get to see some old photos or something of the team during happier times (including 2018-Gamora specifically) and realizing that they really are going so far to save Rocket because they genuinely love him, and once upon a time they loved her too. 2014-Gamora getting to see the life she very nearly COULD have had within mere hours in her own timeline (without the threat of Thanos ever taking that away, mind you) but having to come to terms with the life she's made with the Ravagers in the present day. That would've been a more appropriate arc for her, I think, then her presence in the story wouldn't have had to only center around what Peter lost and nothing else and we'd at least get the idea that the others still had her on their minds even if they outwardly "moved on."
But also? Another missed opportunity to not have a moment when 2014-Gamora is in a battle with the other Ravager leaders mirroring the hallway scene with the Guardians that could have been when Peter (and the audience) "get" who she's currently more comfortable with in a basic sense, but... you know... it is what it is or whatever.

While there hasn't been a lot about this on my dashboard, it's all over TikTok and apparently Twitter, so I want to give my 2 cents about the submersible situation and be done with it. To be honest, my feelings are kinda complicated.
On one hand, I feel bad for that teenager. While apparently the people on board had a painless death, the teenager died super young. He had his whole life ahead of him, but it was snuffed out. Watching as you and your father suffocate to death is pure nightmare fuel. I'm pissed off at that CEO, because he should've known better, and dragged many people down with him thanks to his own stupidity. He even cut corners and safety features, because he thought he was invincible and someone would save them.
At the same time, my condolences and sympathy can only go so far for all the others, especially the CEO. Most of the people in that are billionaires who willingly volunteered to get onboard a metal death trap, despite signing waivers and knowing the risks involved. It's the CEO and other adult billionaire's fault. They did this to themselves and have only themselves to blame.
Plus, there's no such thing as an ethical billionaire. The billionaires contributed the most for wars and genocides of minorities for the sole purpose of exploitation. They still do it now with climate change and tons of other things. Even if they didn't hop into this thing of their own free will, they aren't good people either.
Are some of the jokes and memes going a bit to far? Sure. Is posting fanfiction about this tragedy a bit gauche? Yes. But at the same time, I can see why some people hold little sympathy for them outside of the teenager and scientist, because I feel the same exact way. I admit that I laughed at a lot of TikToks joking about this whole thing.
There is a lot of dark humour in this whole thing. (Seriously, this seems like something ripped straight out of a South Park episode. I would've be surprised if that series based an episode on this if it wasn't for the writer's strike.)
Honestly, I wish that other rich people used this much time and energy to find the missing and murdered indigenous women or the shipwreck in Greece containing hundreds of refugees who died instead of this. Or the billionaires used their money for something useful like fighting climate change or giving it away to someone who actually needs it. Those deserve much more attention, not this bullshit!
The saddest part of all this, to quote Cardi B a bit, is that these people are so fucking detached from humanity that hardly anyone cares that they just died. Hell, one of the guy's stepsons, who seems to be a racist piece of shit, seems more concerned about going to a Blink182 concert than the fact that his father and stepbrother just died! If that isn't a testament to money can't buy you happiness, I don't know what else is.

Hello, all, whether you found me on Tumblr or are a Twitter refugee! Either way, I finally got around to making a side blog dedicated to my Dragon Ball fancomic: Dragon Ball Zoku!
I understand that my hiatus has been going on for... a while, but I needed a lot of time to recover from the burn out that came specifically from making this comic.
But! After being able to spread my creative wings with other fandoms on the rest of Tumblr, I am slowly but surely working on the comic again! The Editor Supreme demands it! (not really, but she has been asking).
Now don't get me wrong; this doesn't mean the comic is going to be back up next week (sorry, not sorry), it just means that I'm finally putting some effort back into working on it. The comic hasn't died! However, I don't know when it will come back at this time. I only know that I can't take it at the same pace I did before. At least, not yet, and I'm not willing to stop making a lot of side stuff that I neglected while I focused solely on the comic.
Peek back here occasionally to see some DBZoku goodies as I make them. Or for those of you who are bold, feel free to check out my main @tomboy014 blog where I basically post whatever happens to catch my fancy.

Little Dark Age
short fic from a twitter writing challenge, egoshipping, trans woman aster (and trans man manjoume but that's not immediately obvious from the writing). they're married. references to the Known Phoenix Childhood Trauma but nothing too terrible. also he calls her ophelia because that's her chosen name in this verse, while aster is her professional name. okay!!!!
Manjoume never remembers the specific dates of bad things that happened to him. There were no particularly traumatic birthdays or holidays, nothing that sticks in his mind as the day my family disowned me or the last time I saw my brothers or the date Juudai got everyone dragged into the Dark World. It could be any day that these things happened; he doesn't dwell on it and there's no sense in trying to pinpoint them.
But Aster remembers everything. And Manjoume, too, shares her burden, memorizing all the dates that hurt her. December 19th, March 31st, January 4th, June 25th. He never asks—Aster just volunteered the information as the dates passed, either for shock value or to see how he'd react (or, maybe, to try and push him away), and Manjoume hasn't forgotten a single one. It's not that he wants to think things like tomorrow is the anniversary of my wife watching her father's murderer burn to death, but… Perhaps it's something of a blessing in disguise, instinctively knowing which times of the year Aster will need extra tenderness.
Manjoume wakes up to the feeling of Aster moving in bed, the covers being pulled back, the sound of her feet hitting the floor. "Ophelia?" he mumbles. The room is pitch black, so it still must be the middle of the night; the blackout curtains Aster had installed in their bedroom can't compete with the Southern California sun even in the dead of winter. Manjoume lifts his head and squints, trying to see what his wife is doing. But either she doesn't hear him, or is ignoring him, or she's already gone.
He drifts off again, not quite asleep nor awake. In his half-dreams, he thinks of Aster, wonders if she's alright. She's always had nightmares that wake him up too, though they've grown less frequent with time. Usually, if she wants to be comforted, she'll make that known to him. Still, though…
Rubbing his eyes, Manjoume steps out of bed and into a pair of slippers, and goes to search for his wife.
---
He finds Aster not in the house, but outside on the porch. It may be winter, but Aster has never minded the cold; she did spend a substantial portion of her childhood in the northeastern corner of the United States. She's curled up in a lawn chair, looking up at the sky. Manjoume wonders what she sees up there, if anything.
"Shut the door. I don't want to come back into a freezing house." Aster turns around, looking at Manjoume with an unreadable expression. "Not keeping the bed warm for me?"
"I wanted to make sure you were okay," Manjoume says, and closes the door like she asked. He stands behind her—not protectively, per se, but in a way that he hopes communicates that he's here if she needs him, and that he loves her. Even now, when things are difficult. Especially now. "Uh. What are you doing out here?"
"I'm just thinking." Aster pauses, sighing softly. Manjoume waits for her to continue, shifting on his feet. "I talked to my therapist about this a while ago, but I always end up remembering it…" Manjoume doesn't need her to finish her sentence: at times like these. "It—it feels like I died when my father did."
"What do you mean?" Manjoume wants to touch her, to remind her that she's okay and alive and safe here. But he won't. Not until she's ready.
"I mean, whoever that kid was going to grow up to be, if… nothing happened. DD killed him too. …And I guess I'm just what's left." Aster turns her head towards Manjoume, looking plainly at him with her eyes wide. She looks almost like she's hurt. "Come here. I'm going to sit in your lap."
Manjoume shuffles himself into the lawn chair once Aster stands up. It's still warm where she was sitting. Aster climbs into his lap like a contented cat, pressing her face against his neck and shoulder. Manjoume's hand comes up, almost involuntarily, to touch the place on her shoulder where she has a stave tattooed—a symbol meant to guide its wearer through hard times. It's something Manjoume knows that only he is allowed to touch, and that even if Aster pretends otherwise, his fingers tracing along the pattern does comfort her.
"You're much more than what was left," Manjoume says quietly.
"I wasn't done, Jun."
"Ah, sorry."
"Mm. So my therapist was like, it sounds like you need to grieve for your inner child or whatever the fuck. And it made me think. There really isn't anybody left to do that, except for me. So I've been, you know. Grieving for the kid that I used to be."
Manjoume squeezes her a little tighter. "I'm so sorry," he says, but it doesn't feel like enough.
"Don't be. That sick bastard's been dead… twelve years as of tonight. I don't need to be pitied."
"I'm not pitying you," Manjoume argues. "What happened to you is awful! I hate that guy, whether he's dead or not!"
Aster chuckles softly. "Don't get yourself all fired up like that. You'll never get back to sleep."
Manjoume reminds himself to breathe. The night air has started to chill him; the tip of his nose is cold. "Can we go back to bed, then? Uh—obviously if you want you can stay out here, I don't want to interrupt you if you weren't done. Just, you know. You're sitting on me."
"No, I'm done," Aster says. She slides off Manjoume's lap and pivots around to open the door, keeping her hand anchored on his shoulder the whole time. Even though she's been out here for longer than him, Manjoume can feel the heat of her palm through his shirt. It's a small touch, but one that reminds him of how lucky he is to have her, of how in love he is. How treasured he feels, knowing that Aster trusts him and tells him these things instead of keeping it all bottled up inside. She's come so far. They've come so far together.
When they return to bed, Aster curves her body around Manjoume's, pushing his face against her chest and draping one leg over his waist so he can't move. Within minutes, she's asleep again, safely entwined with her husband. And he wouldn't have it any other way.

So You Wanna Grow Orchids
I thought I'd make a little thing about the orchid type I feel is the most forgiving for beginners. You'll see and hear a lot about them, but the one I feel is the best starter, with the quickest means to propagate more is the Oncidium type.
This type frequently has scented flowers, blooms more frequently than the most sold Phalenopsis and is more forgiving to unintentional neglect as well.
Tumblr media
The above image is a Phalaenopsis I got from a Home Depot. This orchid, though not necessarily this pattern/color type, is the most common orchid you will find sold in stores and florists. Thing is, its also not quite so forgiving either. Water too much, the roots drown and rot, water too little and it dehydrates and dies. The best way to tell a Phal is perfectly hydrated is if the roots don't look silvery.
Most of the time when you buy one of these the roots when watered look green and plump, because they were exposed to light. See, their roots photosynthesize. However don't rely on that because the leaves do a much much better job at that. You have to have a good mix of sphagnum moss and chunky orchid bark and I have just found compared to my Oncidium, Phal are just more picky.
With oncidium types, if they lose their roots that first repotting, it is okay. See, Oncidium have like, a million roots. And they grow a new set of roots with every new psudobulb that grows, so if you don't want to deal with the roots, hack them off and just make sure that the layer of media you set them on top of in their new home is the moss layer. Once the new growth happs, it doesn't have to go very far and it will be just fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The images here, are one of my oncidium. This one too has no name, but as you can see the fat growths are its psudobulbs. Now, they are a bit raisony because this one was divided into three plants and it hasn't started a new growth yet to make up for the damage that its root system was in when I got it. As long as each division has three growths, its perfectly fine to separate and repot, then either sell or give away.
They don't mind a little extra water or even periods of drought, that is what those psudobulbs are for. They are like camels. They can also handle a fair amount of sun, but are happy under a couple cheap shop lights too. This orchid type can be incredibly showy and smell absolutely mouth watering, though the one I gave pictures of doesn't have a smell.
Look up pictures, they can be quite stunning. And, if you wish, check out this video by my favorite orchid grower who lives in Cypress. She did a fantastic video on this orchid type and she has several more for Phalaenopsis and all the rest in her collection.

This is me talking abt the party and how some of the ccs handled it as well as disclosing my personal opinion so if y'all do not like that, you should not read this post
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, let us look at what the person whose birthday party they were attending mentioned: they are all vaccinated and tested beforehand, the tests were negative -according to them.
And while that is nice, the vaccine only protects you from the virus. You can still carry and spread it and I am sure that we all know that the tests aren't the most accurate either.
And while most these Youtubers will probably end up alone in their house after this, some of them will travel back to their country, they will end up in public vlogging, they end up interacting with other content creators and just people in general and so on. If even one of them has it, the virus can spread like a wildfire. Let's not forget that there were 45+ people at this party. While there are certainly events with much more people out there, I think that it is much easier to enforce the small safety rules such as wearing a mask and keeping your distance at such a small gathering. Also, if we go back to speaking of travelling, some of the guests came from other countries and very likely weren't quarantined before they attended the festivity (speaking of Captain Puffy here, I do not have a list of everyone who attended and do not really care tbh).
Now is it within the UK guidelines? Yes, of course it is. You are not required to wear a mask, football games and concerts take place, clubs are open and so on. Is it responsible? No, it definitely isn't. The death rates are picking up again, so are the rates of people who have covid. There is a delta version of the virus, two times worse than covid 19. The government is not handling this properly and we all should know that because Boris motherfucking Johnson didn't cancel one of his little trips despite the fact that he has been tested positive for covid.
Now if we move on and look at what Memeulous said, I haven't seen any abuse directed at the ccs. I saw a lot of jokes and some people expressing that they were upset which they have the right to be.
Because imagine, the Youtubers who actually profited from the pandemic in terms of views and new subscribers weren't the only ones who were affected. People lost their jobs, their homes, their friends, their family to this virus. Some people are in the hospital with covid, fighting for their lives. Some people can not go to the hospital because it is full, meaning that if they get covid they have nowhere to go. Some people also haven't been outside, haven't seen their friends and family irl in ages. Most of us also haven't been able to celebrate and enjoy our birthdays with our loved ones. Some schools and workplaces are not open, meaning people have to home office which is incredibly difficult for people who struggle with mental health and disabilities. Some people are stuck at home and have to suffer from verbal and physical abuse.
Besides, people have been advising others to wear a mask beforehand and that was all most asked of the ccs. Put a piece of cloth over your nose and mouth, wash your hands, that's it. That's all most of the people had wanted and the majority hasn't asked for that in an impolite way.
Sure, there will always be those black sheep out there with the stupid death threats and some were sent to the person who hosted this. If they read this, I am incredibly sorry this happened, especially after losing someone to suicide. Please remember that death threats are never okay.
And I think another reason why some of them asked the content creators with millions of viewers to be responsible was because they have many young, impressionable viewers who might think that it is okay to stop being careful now where they have seen their 'idols' stop caring. By deciding to become an influencer, you do carry some responsibility. Wearing a mask is not that hard.
Now let's look at some of the replies:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Everyone has gone back to their lives"
Nope, several places are still in lockdown, some locations are still not open, many people are fighting for their lives right now, several of my mates lost someone to covid, thousands of people who I do not know lost someone or something to the virus, some people still can not leave their homes, several countries still do not even have the vaccine and especially these people can be upset because guess what: it isn't exactly pleasant to be stuck at home alone while you see several white people show off their privilege of being able to party and go outside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Thousands of people died to covid."
"Lol Twitter is so sensitive"
Here is what Scott Smajor said. I really liked how he handled this so I wanted to include this because unlike most ccs, he didn't mock the people who were looking out for them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Dream our little covid warrior lmao
Tumblr media
That all being said, I totally understand where you all are coming from. We are all tired of this. We all want to see our friends and family, go out and do things we enjoy but I think that for now it really has to either wait or be safe. Just because a bunch of other people do it without masks doesn't make it safe. Be better. Also, fuck the government and what they say, didn't know how to handle this shit for the majority of it and they still don't know tbh
Wear your masks, wash your hands, keep your distance and stay safe.

it's in the blood // this is tradition
Summary: Children inherit all sorts of traits from their parents. Not all these traits are good.
"My reputation preceded me before I was born."
[ charlotte & lola au ]
A/N: 2292 words. Halsey's new album killed me on the spot. i talk a lot about the next gen being mirrors of their parents, but i'd like to go into detail about that not necessarily being a positive. @misscharlottelee this made me feel things. i love these kids.
Warnings: overdose mention, addiction discussion, mentions of drug abuse.
Penelope Dingley-Lee
Tommy can count the amount of times he'd seen Razzle truly angry on one hand, and here and now he can see it again, written all over his neice's face. He'd thought she would look like Charlie when she's angry, and occasionally she does, the way her lip curls derisively, dismissively, that's very reminiscent of his cousin, but here and now, her blue eyes are hazy, cloudy, and her lips twist with an irate arrogance that is worryingly familiar.
Angry and high and wearing clothes that don't quite match, in this moment she's exactly her father's daughter.
She's been in the papers again. Her tits have been in magazines again. Tommy bites down on his instinctual desire to repremand her; she'd call him a hypocrite, call him an old man, tell him to keep his opinions to himself while she could still buy his sex tape out of a shady car boot down the street.
Charlie was like that too, on occasion, wit too quick for him to keep up with. When she got into a mood like this, Tommy didn't have to worry so much; usually Razzle would egg her on, but knew when to pull her back.
"It's my god given, motherfucking right to go feral -" he'd heard Charlie back in the eighties holler at three in the morning, high on amphetamines and waving a gossip rag above her head. Razzle would be on the sofa, equally fucked up, but gazing at her like she hung the stars in the sky.
"Lola gets photographed at least once a month stark naked along the strip like it's a sport, why is my Playboy shoot a national crisis?! My tits are fantastic!"
"They are, my love," Razzle nods seriously, and Tommy pulls his pillow from beneath his head, trying to either block out their voices through the thin walls, or maybe smother himself. The girl beside him, the groupie whose name he doesn't know, asks blearily why there's so much yelling. Tommy doesn't answer.
A week later, Tommy is the one to bail out Charlie and Razzle for public indecency, and they're both beaming from ear to ear.
Here in the present, Penny is draped out on the sofa, laughing low and pleased as she watches TV.
"TMZ blurred out my tits," she snorts, "cowards."
"Penny..." he can't help the faintly disappointed notes in his voice when he says her name.
"Thomas, I've read The Dirt," Penny fires back venemously. Hypocrite he hears in her tone, you have no power over me.
There's something hollow in her eyes in the photos he sees of her in the papers. She wears her father's inflluence and her heart on her crushed velvet sleeve, on the arm of a shallow, pretty, band boy who plays badly and loudly. But she laughs louder, though tthe sound is low and unconvincing if anyone bothered to listen hard enough, and Tommy wonders if he has enough dark hair dye left for when that boy breaks her heart.
Jupiter Lee
Tommy is proud to watch Jupiter on stage, but he is afraid.
Their anger is something he remembers from Lola, the way they cling to the past with vitriol echoes their mother, but on stage, they drink up the attention, get high off the love the audience gives, and he sees himself in those moments.
A child of addicts, Jupiter had drawn lines in the sand for themselves that they refused to cross; no alcohol, no drugs, and they'd stayed loyal to that. But highs come in all forms; they simply picked a different kind of poison without realising.
On stage, halfway between the gutter and a god complex, Tommy knows the smile they wear all too well.
Rebellion from Jupiter didn't shock the world like it did when it was Penny's name in the papers. Jupiter's trajectory was spot on in the eyes of the public, but rebellion wouldn't be the thing that broke them.
Once, so long ago that it's a miracle the memory survived, Tommy remembers asking Lola what she would be doing if she wasn't with the band. Lola gave him an easy, bleary smile, laughing sweetly when she told him that one way or another, she'd be here. In the moment it overwhelms him with love. In hindsight it breaks his heart.
"Come on, I think this is inevitable," Jupiter smiles on television as an interviewer asks them the same question; if they weren't making music what they'd be doing, "as if I'd do anything other than this."
'Don't you know where I come from?' is left unspoken, but Tommy still hears it.
He tries to picture himself in a life without the world at his feet the way he has now. No image comes to mind. Nothing else makes sense. Even if he wanted to do something else, wanted to grow up to be something else, he couldn't even begin to picture it for himself, tragedy and all.
They play their parts. They let history repeat itself. Jupiter makes mistakes Tommy and Lola had already learned from. Penny plays Jupiter's conciousness until the role grates on her nerves, diving head first into chaos, taking Jupiter with her with little convincing.
Tommy remembers this too.
When the world looks at Penny and Jupiter, they like to remember how Lola was seen as a bad influence on Charlotte, but forget that Tommy would have followed Charlotte in to Hell without hesitation.
Leo "Seo" Sixx
Lola has google alerts set up for her son, Seo, because he disappears for months without warning. Tommy asks how he is, and Lola looks to her phone with a tight smile, telling him that he's competeing in a skateboarding competition in Prague. She learned that from Twitter.
Seo comes and goes without warning, and talks to his siblings more than his parents. He loves them, but he hasn't allowed himself to stop for years. He doesn't know how. Then again, neither did Lola or Nikki.
"Jupiter thinks a lot about legacy, don't they?" He's in Tommy's kitchen, eating a poptart, when Tommy returns home one friday evening. He's waiting for Penny and Jupiter to finish getting ready, the three of them going out.
"Do your parents know you're in town?" Tommy asks with faint amusement, though there's a twinge of guilt in his gut when Leo considers that he should probably let them know. Says he forgot. Tommy's not sure if he believes him; like his parents before him, he tends to leave a lot unsaid. It's part of his charm, the world seems to think, but Tommy knows all to well how deliberate of an act it can be.
"Jup's got all this stuff in their head about legacy and who they should be," he continues his earlier thought, "which I guess makes sense, they tie a lot of themselves up in their identity," he shrugs, then, "I don't know Leo."
Tommy's not sure if he's talking about the grandfather he's named after, or himself.
"You've given this a lot of thought," Tommy says quietly, humouring him.
"I think a lot," Seo responds, "I've been thinking about going back on my meds, its weird being off of them." Of course this concerns Tommy, who knows objectively that Seo isn't his kid, but he's close enough that Tommy feels like he's allowed to be concerned. "I'm worried a doctor's note isn't going to be enough to let me compete at the Olympics on speed," falls too casually from Seo's lips, alarming Tommy in an instant. Though it must clearly show on his face, as Seo breaks out into an apologetic grin, "dextroamphetamine, for my ADHD. I've been trying to wean off it for the Olympics, it's been hard -" but his next words, said so blithe, so casual, have Tommy's heart stopping in his chest as he's thrown back thirty years, "I've been on them since I was like eleven years old; it was great, I could think, like the right amount, but now I... I think everything. I feel everything. Its a lot." He shrugs, like he didn't just become an echo of his father.
Seo's parents both died twice from overdoses, and now their son feels like he can't function without amphetamines.
Objectively Tommy knows that they work for Seo, that he's not abusing them he simply uses them to help him function, but the irony is not lost on him. It's a lot to unpack. He doesn't think to ask about the Olympics; it slips his mind until he sees Seo and a silver medal on his Twitter feed.
Lola calls Tommy in tears. She's proud, but she wishes she'd known, wishes she'd been able to watch it live, or go over and support him in person.
No-one in Seo's life seems to fully know or understand his intentions or actions, no-one can predict his next move. He puts up a bright facade, but like his parents before him, he does not trust the world to know him.
They don't know where he goes in the few months after the Olympics, all they know is that he doesn't come home.
Cerie "CerieThree" Sixx
Since she'd turned sixteen, Tommy has never seen Cerie Sixx without a smile. That is a very deliberate choice that she's made.
She's made a choice to rise above the percieved grime of her origins. She's halfway across the country, smiling for a camera she can control, editing her image before she lets it out into the world. Cerie Three - even the name the world knows reflects this; she's picked apart the context she was born into, disecting it, deciding which was useful to show the world, disposing of the rest.
She speaks warmly to her family, from what Tommy can gather, but the people on the peripheries of their life seem more like associates in the coldest sense of the world. Her smile doesn't reach her eyes half the time when she sees Tommy, and she shakes his hand when her brothers will hug him. The internet is closer to her than he is.
Cerie looks the most like her mother of all her siblings; she's 21, the exact same age Lola was when she met Tommy, but half the time he can barely see the resemblence. Lola had let the world see a villain at that age; Cerie had learned from that, had rejected that, rejected the cold, hard humanity of her mother's fronting. Cerie wanted to be perfect. Cerie had to be perfect, hyper aware of her own image, like her siblings seem to be, but the way she'd so effectively shaped her public identity was kind of terrifying.
Perhaps this was what it was like for people who didn't know Lola, only allowed to know the image she put out into the world, or people who only knew Nikki for his stage presence.
But the more Tommy thinks about it, the more he remembers just how effectively Lola had wrapped the band around her little finger when she set her mind to it, how she talked her way around exectives despite being dressed like she'd woken up in the gutter and fucked up on any number of drugs. Lola understood people, and it seemed Cerie did too.
Cerie Sixx, twenty one, doesn't stop creating content, doesn't stop studying, and doesn't stop smiling. Two of those three things are inhereted traits, inhereted determination, and the third is a choice.
Cyrus Sixx
Though Cyrus had inhereted much of his parent's musical talent, the same way Jupiter had, Cyrus had also inhereted a love of the high life. Even so, he's so full of love, kissing his mother on both cheeks before he goes out to get shitfaced in the bars she was decades before he was even born.
He works hard, at his job, on his music, but his partying matches it just as well. He knows exactly how far he has to fall before he meets the depths his parents' had sunk to, and though he doesn't voice this, his arrogance comes across in his actions.
There'd always be someone to pull him away from swan diving to rock bottom. He takes that for granted, and keeps getting closer and closer.
The only one of Nikki and Lola's children who still lives at home, he's the only one like them in the way they'd feared.
"He's going to have more success than he will ever be able to comprehend," Nikki had told Tommy, the day after Cyrus had been admitted to hospital after staying up for four days while high and obsessing over a song he had been working on. Nikki had found him having a fit after having fallen from his desk chair. Now, sitting on Tommy's patio in the sunset, he looks tired, he looks afraid, "if he doesn't end up killing himself first."
A month ago, the fire department and the police had to pull him, kicking and screaming and bareass naked from a tree in the middle of town. His parents had bailed him out, had felt a familiar sting of guilt as they find themselves reminded of their own youthful exploits. They repremand him, of course, but they both know the only reason they stopped climbing trees was because there had been no-one to pick them up after.
Nikki sees himself in his sons mistakes, but he'd had to learn concequences the hard way.
Tommy loves his family and all it's strange branches, as well as their raucous youth, but his closest friends were some of the most volatile people he'd known, and somehow he'd forgotten that as time as taken people and memories from him.
But these children were made in their image.

Tumblr media
you had found it weird. weird how suna hasn't texted you since yesterday's morning. you knew he needed space and stuff to think about, but atleast he could've told you.
you decided to let him be alone for a while. he had revealed that sometimes too much interaction exhausts him, so he warned you that he might not text you for a while.
soon later you realised you weren't the only one who suna hadn't been texting.
miya osamu reached out to you on twitter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
your body acted faster than your brain. with hot tears already staining your cheeks, you quickly put on something warm and exited through the door, wishing to just find suna as soon as possible.
your body trembled with every step you took, your heart aching for him. where was he? why was he suddenly gone? osamu said he had called him multiple times, but he didn't answer.
you finally arrived at the miya household. you knocked politely and waited for someone to open up. a few minutes later a yellow-haired guy opened the door.
"uh.. hello? i'm looking for osamu." you smiled softly, looking behind the stranger boy and trying to find him.
"oh uhm he's currently calling suna. you're y/n, right? i'm atsumu."
"atsumu?"
"osamu's twin."
"ohhhh right" you laughed awkwardly as he invited you inside. he showed you to osamu's room, and you immediately went inside. osamu was sat on his bed, sulking and dialing suna’s number again. his fingers hesitated over the call button, as he was rethinking everything.
“hasn’t he picked up yet?” your voice trembled as you sat beside osamu, eyes filling up to the brim with tears. you sniffled, shaking hands slowly motioning for osamu to hand you the phone. you clicked call and ended up sobbing loudly when he didn’t pick up. osamu’s hand caressed your back, softly mumbling comforting words.
eventually you all exchanged ideas and went out on a search for suna. atsumu said he would go to the rooftop, and osamu took you along with him.
“he usually ends up there one way or another,” osamu’s voice spoke, trembling and shaking as he walked with you. your eyes were glued on the ground, mind flooding with all the negatives, what if he was seriously injured? and for days now… every one of your thoughts ended up ending with the worst possible scenario. you forced yourself not to think of it. all the positives only, right? and jumping to conclusions wasn’t the right choice here. osamu stopped and so did you, daring to look up from the ground, you saw an abandoned train station.
“he’s in here?”
“hopefully.”
hopefully… was it the only answer he could give? he wasn’t 100% sure either. he let go of your hand and stepped inside. he sighed, looking around for suna. and thankfully, he found him. you stood behind osamu and heard their short, but meaningful, conversation.
“suna..”
“i know what you’re about to say.” suna spoke, barely over a whisper. his voice was raspy, and from what you could see, he’s gotten paler too.
“why didn’t you tell me? tell us?”
“i didn’t want you worried- do you know where y/n...is?” suna’s words made your heart tremble. he was looking for you? despite being in such condition. “i tried to call but… before i could click call, my phone died.” he explained.
you stepped out from behind osamu, suna’s eyes soon adjusting and looking at you. he sent you a half-smile, opening his arms. you immediately tumbled down on your knees, quickly crawling over to suna. his arms wrapped around your body, comforting you while you’re crying. suna sent osamu away, as he had you. of course it made osamu displeased a bit, but he knew suna was in great hands.
“i’m here, y/n, i’m here.” the warm comforting voice that you met nearly a month ago comforted you when crying. and it wasn’t even fair. you shouldn’t be the one crying. suna has gone through way more than you have, yet you’re here sobbing in his arms. your chest felt heavy, like warm fluids intoxicating you and robbing you of the ability to breathe. his arms were the only place where you felt safe. hearing his heartbeat, knowing he’s still with you.

Piecing Chase's Story Together
I'm making this more for my own sake, but figured I might as well share it.
(This is a post solely for what has been confirmed to be canon Chase Brody content. Speculation about who was who during certain videos of Mayhem is not included.)
His story begins with Bro Average in April of 2017.
Tumblr media
Here, we see him as he portrays himself for his audience. Trying to make himself be happy. Hiding the fact that he's hurting, until he breaks and admits it to the cameras.
Tumblr media
Whether the "suicide attempt" was meant to be seen as real or not, we still don't know for sure, but we do know one thing: Chase lives.
The next time we see him mentioned by name is during the summer of 2017, when Jack chooses to "kill" him in Bio Inc. Redemption.
Tumblr media
(We don't see him in his full character form, but it's been implied that this is canon to him.)
However, we also know that this isn't a successful attempt at killing him off, either. Because a bit later, in KILL JACKSEPTICEYE, Dr. Schneeplestein confirms that he's very much alive.
Tumblr media
After that, it's radio silence on the Chase front until Mayhem 2018, at the end of the third chapter of Stories Untold:
Tumblr media
Later in the month we get TIE- A Game About Depression, which reveals to us that Chase is the one behind the camera sometimes while the character-Jack is comatose (and that he still gets to see his kids on some weekends).
Tumblr media
It's then implied that he's been doing worse for wear since the events of Bro Average, having turned to alcohol when his depression gets bad.
Tumblr media
Days later, we see Chase come face-to-face with none other than Anti in Dark Silence (as was confirmed by Robin).
Tumblr media
He yells the infamous lines, "Where are they? What do you want from me!?", and the faint screams heard beforehand are heavily implying that something has happened to his kids…
… and, up until today (October 13th, 2019), that's all we could say we knew for sure about his story.
Enter CHASE.
Tumblr media
Throughout this entire video, we see just how downhill his life has gone since the events of May 2018. He's being evicted from his home. He's living out of his car. He still hasn't put the whiskey away. And it's heavily implied that harm has befallen his kids, Stacy, or both.
He's hit rock bottom, and Anti still isn't leaving him alone.
Tumblr media
Was Anti responsible for the harm to Chase's kids and/or Stacy? We don't know for sure. We can't really, truly say we know much about the events in and implied by this video, because Seán has yet to come out and say yes, this is exactly what happened in it and why.
But, now that I'm looking at Chase's story as a whole?…
I think it's safe to say that something big is going to happen next for him, whenever it happens. How do I know? Just look at all the sh*t he's been through. He almost died two or three separate times alone (if you count Anti coming for his ass in Dark Silence). He's lost everyone in his life who meant the most to him (Stacy, the kids, and Jack). It's even implied that he's given up on his Bro Average career.
It can't get any worse for him.
But, do you know what else that means?
The only place he can go from here is up. This isn't some Shakespearean tragedy where everyone dies in the end. Seán wouldn't do that. And, it's like he always says– all it takes in your darkest moment of despair is a single moment a clarity to pull you out of it, to make you feel like life is still worth living. It's going to be time for Chase to feel that moment of clarity for himself, soon enough.
Whether that's going to happen with the help of the other egos or whether he's going to find that spark in himself, we don't know yet. All we know is that the video ended with Chase being brought somewhere else in the blink of an eye. It could've been Anti's doing, his own, or even Marvin's (as Seán liked a theory on Twitter guessing as much)– but whatever the case may be, something big is on the horizon for him. I'm sure of it.
And hey, @therealjacksepticeye? I just wanna say you've done a great job creating this character over the past few years. His story is fun to dissect ^^
TL;DR: Chase Brody lives. Period.

This is how it's done
Episode 5.15 at last.
While the emphasis has been on Nia's story in this episode, the synopsis made it clear Alex, Kelly and J'onn had a secondary storyline running as well. So again we were eager to watch knowing they were finally getting more than a token few minutes together.
Did it deliver?
Oh hell yes.
You just have to look on Twitter to see the praise being heaped on it by fans.
But first let's get the elephant in the room out of the way. William.
The opening sequence as Kara is fighting with Nia, and Nia has to be the one reminding Kara she has a date? Already covered by me and others, but to reiterate: that does not give a vibe of someone excited to be going on a first date. You can't even use the excuse of her mind was on the fight, because so was Nia's.
As to Kara at her apartment with Alex prior to the date?
Those words, "Cancel it for me."
Lets say (for arguments sake) it is nerves again speaking. Maybe it is, but that she is even having those thoughts? That she completely forgot about the 1st date, and needed reminding? If Kara can't get invested in the date, how are the audience expected to become invested?
As for the date itself. Kara arrives.... having been told by Alex to wear the blue top because .... well reasons .... and she is wearing the purple? So, not wanting to go with the best look then?
I didn't mind the date per se, although I did wonder if Kara was simply trying to not show pool skills, because I can't believe for a second, with Alex as a sister, and the control Kara now has on her powers (worry over lack of control would be the only other reason for her hesitation that I can think of), Kara hasn't been pulled into playing many times.
Did I get a date vibe? No. I felt more bonding yes (like why has it taken until now to even vaguely have that much), but date? Nope. Still not feeling it. If any of the above was a one off instance, you could shrug it off. But all of them? Sorry but as I say, if Kara isn't that invested in a first date, then we can't be expected to be as invested. However, that isn't to say that William annoyed me. In truth having him more on the sidelines was a relief as it finally allowed others to get some much needed screen time.
The Nia storyline.
This is obviously one extremely close to me, as my husband is transgender, and we have other family who are also transgender.
Nicole's input was definitely felt. Some of the lines she spoke were ones we have said ourselves almost word for word.
This is a topic that is one I've been extremely vocal about, and one in particular I have spoken about (in the William and Kara at CatCo scene) is the figures for transgender people killed in the last year alone in the USA, but more importantly that this number is likely not a true representation as many who die are misgendered after death.
It was so important to show just how bad for the transgender community it is. And no, it wouldn't necessarily be a fact Kara would know. Even those in the LGBTQ community aren't always aware of these figures. As for William being the one stating the figures back to Kara, again in the context I had no qualms about it. In fact having a CIS straight man write the piece and be a supportive ally is an important message in it's own right. I was worried that wouldn't come across, but I felt it did.
If ever there was a line that spoke volumes in this weeks Supergirl episode it was this:
"They want us to be invisible because of their own fears, they want to erase us so...... we need to shine even brighter." - Nia Nal
And shine Nicole Maines (and Roxy Wood, because the additional line about being a Black transgender woman - take my heart, stomp over it, then expect me to function), did. Both deserve so much praise on the way they delivered their performances.
I genuinely cried at some of this weeks episode, because the experiences have been ones we have faced as a transgender household. Being white does afford us a privilege that Black transgender people (especially the women) don't have. But as I say, it has been something I've been vocal about for a long time.
Lastly Kara and Nia on the balcony. Holy mother of god (or goddess), tears. Again. Nicole and Melissa once again were so good it felt like a punch to the gut. Kara wiping that tear off Nia's cheek. Big ugly sobbing from me. Gah! Just ....
Now Alex and Kelly. While I'm still craving a nice intimate atmosphere at home with them, having had so little of Dansen (and Kelly) it was a relief that for once Kelly wasn't given diminished screentime. Not only that, she was instrumental in helping Alex navigate through the VR world.
Alex having that PTSD flashback to being in the tank. Whoa, finally acknowledging it affected her and obviously still does. I loved how Kelly is so good at helping Alex maintain her equilibrium. You could tell it wasn't just because of her training or profession, but as a girlfriend who knows and understands how to communicate to Alex in that moment of stress, much like Alex was able to realise Malefic was manifesting as Kelly in the earlier part of the season, simply because she knew her girlfriend well enough.
Watching Alex train to get used to the Martian weapon, felt very reminiscent of S1 where Alex was training Kara early on. It was good to see her off balance for once in her training, as she has always shown a confidence in her ability until now. For those who complain she brought up wanting to be back at the DEO, as someone who has heavy military presence in our family (for at least 4 generations on my maternal side), I can safely say, going from military (and remember the DEO is recognised and spoken about in canon as being a military operation), and suddenly and unexpectedly thrown back into civilian life is one heck of an adjustment. It's an adjustment for most even when they know it's coming. To be so abrupt, so unexpected? Alex is going to want that structure back, and have that support around her. It is absolutely not unrealistic for her to feel this way or to talk about it. I would've been more surprised if she hadn't.
"And this is my gun."
Alex giving no crap. The whole rescue sequence was a joy to watch.
If I had a complaint, as I mentioned, I would've loved just a moment of real quiet intimacy between Kelly and Alex. We've barely seen anything of that sort. I hope we get something next episode (which also looks amazing from the trailer).
I could go through the episode and pick up so many times on how good it was. It was so much, I know I will have forgotten something I wanted to say. But I'm exhausted (almost no sleep will do that to you, damn being in the UK and these stupid o'clock viewing times), and it was so much to unpack.
Brainy, was barely in the episode but damn, so lovely (& heartbreaking) to see him give the information to the NCPD to help against transphobic attacks.
Onto a side plot, but finally we have more about Leviathan.
Leviathan have those bodies suspended.
What if William dies in 5.19 and becomes one of those suspended bodies for 5.20 or was supposed to, as Nicole mentioned on her Instagram story they still had scenes to film, and a couple were pretty amazing? With Staz back, would it have involved him, possibly as a sleeper agent? I've touted this idea before. While I would prefer that a MOC isn't cast into being a bad guy again, or killed off, I would more than happily see him simply go back to London and The Times. But I guess we wait to see what happens there.
But if, like Russell in 5a, he becomes an unwitting agent of Leviathan & a bad guy, cue fight scene, possibly in a VR setting? Maybe? Who knows.
Last but by no means least - they killed off Jeremiah. Since we're not entirely sure if Cadmus operated in the same way on Earth Prime as they did on Earth 38, we don't yet know the circumstances behind his death.
Will we get more explanation about it? Honestly I'm not overly bothered unless it helps serve a current storyline. Merely because episode numbers are running out, and it does at least bring us closure on his character one way or another. Something a lot of us have questioned for so long now.
As for complaints, the only ones expressing any real disappointment have been fans who have either regularly attacked other fans (especially those of in the SC or Dansen fandoms), or the outright transphobic users (I won't call them fans), who as the episode makes clear, are everywhere. The transphobes come out in force everytime with Nicole, so it isn't a surprise to see them again. As Nia says, it what transgender people face on a daily basis.
Plus with no Lena in the episode, it helps show that fans didn't need a Lena/Kara centric episode for this to garner such positive reactions, particularly from the LGBTQ fans. In some ways, as many have been saying (yes even SC fans), this Lena drama has long since gone by its sell by date and not having Lena once more stuck in her laboratory wasn't missed. And god, I say this as a huge Lena fan. I still want her on screen of course, but we need progression on what is happening with her. Both Lex and Lena have felt stale of late, and while I know it changes as we get into the last few episodes, I can truly say neither was missed this time. And before anyone jumps in, no this isn't bashing SC (I still ship both Dansen and SC, as well as Brainia), or saying SC shouldn't happen, or Lena is evil, or not needed. I don't think that at all. I merely am getting tired of a merry-go-round on Lena in her laboratory that we've had of late, & the only interaction has been with Lex. Time to break her out of that cell!
I don’t know what they were putting in the water in Vancouver when they did the Batwoman and Supergirl episodes this week, but they both had me simultaneously laughing & crying! It looked ugly for a minute there.
Both were outstanding episodes.
As much as I've had my criticism over some of this season, when Supergirl get it right like they did here, they soar! This was one of my top episodes for the entire series.
And despite all the news in the world right now, Supergirl trended on Twitter again.

Symphogear S1- Now this is MY kind of anime!
Every once and awhile when I'd log onto Twitter, I'd see people saying "watch Symphogear" accompanied by images from the show. From looking at the pictures, I assumed it was just another magical girl show like Precure but with less magic and more... techno. Oh, and apparently they sing while they fight? Sounds kinda dumb...
Buuuut... I have heard that there's some yuri content? Maybe I'll give it a try. I mean, I'm always open to watching new stuff, even if it's just a silly little kid's show 😅
Tumblr media
😳
Well........ color me hooked.
I have to say, this show is not at all what I was expecting in the best possible way. It feels a lot more like a Shounen action show along the lines of Fullmetal Alchemist or Neon Genesis Evangelion than a Magical Girl show (if that's even what it's supposed to be). Today, I'm going to be giving my first impressions of Senki Zesshou Symphogear season 1, which will be spoiler free for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Tumblr media
Plot:
So what is Senki Zesshou Symphogear about?
In the not too distant future (next Sunday A.D.), Japan is under attack by monsters known as Noises, the likes of which cannot be killed by military weapons. The only thing that can kill them are girls clad in weaponized armor known as Gears, which is activated and powered by singing catchy techno-pop music.
One day, a girl named Hibiki Tachibana is caught in the middle of a battle, and one of the Gear users, Kanade Amou, sacrifices herself to save her. Two years later, Hibiki discovers that a piece of Kanade's Gear was embedded in her chest during the fight, giving her access to the Gear's powers. Hibiki is recruited by the Disaster Relief Squadron, the organization that created the Gears, to help defend Japan from the Noises.
However, Kanade's former girlfriend partner, Tsubasa Kazanari, sees Hibiki as nothing more than an obnoxious, naive girl trying to be Kanade's replacement. Will the two learn to work together, defeat the Noises, and possibly uncover a deeper plot to all the attacks?
Tumblr media
Symphogear's plot might not be the most original thing ever; evil monsters attack, teenage girls transform into superpowered warriors to fight them, evil mastermind tries to take over the world, etc. But what makes this story stand out is it's unique approach to the fights. Having the Gears be powered by music, resulting in every fight being accompanied by a song, is either a genius way to amplify the fights, or a genius way for the producers to sell a techno soundtrack.
I was worried that the constant use of insert songs would become repetitive and annoying, but on the contrary, they heightened my enjoyment! The fights in Symphogear are easily my favorite part of the show: fast-paced, badass powers, lots of screaming, and downright brutal at times! Hibiki has officially joined the ranks of my all-time favorite battle cries, right up there with Goku from DBZ and Souma from Kannazuki no Miko.
If there was one thing I had to nitpick, it would be that most of the fights take away the credibility of the Noises. They're supposed to be this terrifying threat to Japan that can't be harmed by the military, but as soon as the Gear wielders show up, they're reduced to nothing more than cannon fodder as Hibiki and her comrades seem to waltz through them without breaking a sweat.
Thankfully, the versus matches between Gear wielders are much more balanced. My favorite has to be Hibiki vs Chris (see above), but then again, any fight with Chris is an absolute win!
Characters:
Hibiki Tachibana
Tumblr media
Hibiki is your typical genki girl protagonist: optimistic, hyperactive, naive, and pure. What makes her a more compelling hero, however, is her slow growth into becoming a strong Gear wielder. Unlike most magical girl protagonists, who seem to master their powers after one line of "EH?! What just happened to me?!", Hibiki takes time to learn how to fight. She starts out with the mindset that she has to be Kanade's replacement and thus tries to fight just like her. However, she eventually comes to invent her own battle tactics that work much more in her favor. Mainly, punching the everloving shit out of everything in sight.
Hibiki is, in my opinion, a flat character done right. She doesn't go through any personal growth or development throughout the show (learning to fight doesn't count), but her belief that all humans can get along if they communicate and desire to protect people just because she wants to is the cause for most of the change in the people around her. The world is in a dark place, and Hibiki is the light. She doesn't need to change, because she's exactly what the world needs.
Tsubasa Kazanari
Tumblr media
From what I've learned, Tsubasa is a favorite amongst Symphogear fans. Me personally, though, I have a few issues with her character. Now, I have nothing against brooding, damaged characters. In fact, Tsubasa's recovery from Kanade's death and learning to cherish her own life was incredibly engaging... for the most part. Sorry, but I can only take so much edge. Her constant repitition of "I am a sword, I exist only to fight" grew old after the first 10 or so times.
Also, while I love her overall development, I feel that her acceptance of Hibiki was a little rushed. For the first four episodes, she hates Hibiki for carrying Kanade's Gear to the point where she tries to fight her to the death. Then, after another fight sends her into a coma, she has a (extremely gay) hallucination of Kanade telling her to get over herself. Next episode, she's treating Hibiki as if they've been friends the whole time. Did I miss something? Did Hibiki even apologize for saying she wanted to replace Kanade? Did Tsubasa apologize for trying to shishkabob her?!
Development aside, her fighting style is awesome and unique, and leads to the best choreography in the show. Hopefully as I watch more seasons, my opinion of her will improve.
Chris Yukine
Tumblr media
Best Girl. No questions. Anyone who disagrees is wrong. Deal with it.
Jokes aside, Chris is my favorite character of the show bar none. Maybe I just have a weakness for evil-turned-good characters, but I adored her "don't take no shit from nobody" attitude and her soft side emerging as the show progressed. And let me tell you, Tsubasa would have no right to brood if she knew what Chris went through as a child. I won't give anything away, but just a few brief images and harsh words were enough get the picture across and tug at my heartstrings.
She also had my favorite Gear and fighting style in the show. If there's one thing that always gets my blood pumping, it's gatling guns and an endless supply of missiles. Seriously, I could watch this girl fight for hours.
Kanade Amou
Tumblr media
A moment of silence, ladies and gentlemen.
......
Kanade would be my favorite character if we had gotten more of her. But alas, she has to die in the very first episode. DAMN YOU, PLOT!!!
Even though we get very little of Kanade, she makes it her mission to leave a lasting impression. Her sacrifice at the beginning sets the tone for the rest of the show, and her flashback is the best of the bunch. I got hard chills when she transformed for the first time. Let's just say she's psychotic in all the right ways.
Kanade died for our sins. Remember that... 🙏
Finé
Tumblr media
Our main villain of the show. That's it. There's really nothing much else to her. She's cruel, manipulative, and powerful beyond belief, as most big bosses of these kinds of shows are. She was honestly my least favorite part of the show.
Fine's motivation is incredibly confusing on first watch. I had to go back to pause and read the subtitles multiple times to understand her backstory, but maybe that's my fault for being a slow reader. On the other hand, the explanation as to who she is and why she's so powerful comes right out of nowhere and doesn't seem to connect to anything the story had been building up to that point. Also, by the time I understood her motivation and actually found it a little intriguing, she dropped the dreaded "I'm going to take over the world" line. Aaaaand.... all my interest just went out the window.
There is a twist involving her connection to a certain other character in the show that I genuinely didn't see coming, but in the end, it wasn't nearly enough to make up for her shortcomings.
Miku Kohinata
Tumblr media
God bless this little angel. Miku is a precious cinnamon roll who must be protected at all costs. Thankfully, Hibiki's got it covered 👍
Words cannot express how much I love this girl. She may be only a supporting role for the time being, but good lord, does she support! It always broke my heart whenever she tried to spend time with Hibiki or talk to her, but the Disaster Relief Squad kept pulling them apart. I know DRS is classified, but Miku deserves better than to have secrets kept from her! Life sucks when your girlfriend best friend is a superhero...
Well, that was a mouthful. There's a lot more characters in this show, but I don't really have much to say about them. However, while we're on the subject of Miku, let's move on to the reason I checked this show out in the first place, and the reason I'm sure most of you read my stuff.
Yuri:
Tumblr media
No sooner did I finish this show did I start looking up HibiMiku fanart 😍
I was expecting a fair dosage of yuribait going into Symphogear, but mother of all that is gay, did I get an overdose!
First and foremost, the main ship: HibiMiku. These two are dating. Nothing anyone says will change my mind. They compliment each other perfectly, with Hibiki's energy and Miku's sweetness... HHNNNGGH! IT'S TOO PRECIOUS! I sincerely hope these two get more time together in the next few seasons. Now if only they'd stop with the damn F word...... 😡
Next up, TsubaKana. This one seems more like it was one-sided feelings on Tsubasa's part, judging by how dedicated Kanade was to fighting the Noise. Regardless, you don't just lose all sense of your humanity and self-worth after your "partner" dies. And all that hardcore blushing in the flashbacks and naked cuddling dream sequences... nah, Tsubasa was hella hot for Kanade. Sadly, our lord and savior was taken from Ms. Brooding too soon.
Finally, there's Ryoko Sakurai, the DRS's head scientist. She was initially hinted to be gay, what with her being all too eager to have Hibiki undress and wanting to "pop her cherry" (yes, an adult said that to a 15 year-old). However, after a certain conversation occurred, it seemed more like she was straight or at least bisexual, if all that dirty talk wasn't just teasing.
I've heard future seasons introduce more potential couples, so I'm keeping my eyes open and my yuri goggles on tight 😋
Conclusion:
I enjoyed the first season of Senki Zesshou Symphogear through and through. As someone who enjoyed Akanesasu Shoujo and Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, I have a soft spot for shows about badass girls kicking monster ass and unleashing their inner yuri. Overall though, I think Symphogear might be my favorite of the bunch so far. It has its fair share of flaws, sure, but I think its positives outweigh the negatives by a long shot. If I got this much enjoyment out of the first season, I cannot wait to see what the following seasons have to offer!
Symphogear delivers a fun, action-packed story with colorful characters, kickass fight scenes, head-banging music and plenty of yuri content. Anyone who loves Magical Girls or Shounen battle shows needs to check it out!
Rating: 8/10
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go binge Symphogear G. See you next time, my fellow yuri lovers!

Malex thoughts
I was watching some old episodes of Dawson's Creek and it made me want to get some thoughts out. I watched a lot of TV shows growing up. For me, the couples I liked were either ones I casually rooted for or on the rare occasion, a couple took me by such surprise that I became extremely emotionally invested. Malex is the latter.
I've been a fan of Captain Swan (OUAT), Stydia (Teen Wolf), Kurt & Blaine (Glee), Buffy & Angel and lots more. The rare pairings I've been completely lost on, I can name on one hand. Pacey & Joey (my first OTP), Chandler & Monica and Malex. I'd say Destiel on Supernatural too but with them, everything is subtext. I don't think the writers will have the guts to go there, not even with the show ending.
With PJ, I love how they started as antagonists, became really great friends, and then fell in love. For me, PJ vs DJ was incomparable. DJ brought out the worst in each other (my opinion) while PJ showed each other what love was supposed to be. The only thing I hated about DC was the constant back & forth between the two pairings. It lasted until the final moment when you realized PJ was endgame (one of my fears for Malex). I hated that but I was a kid so it didn't bother me as much as it would now.
I loved Chandler & Monica because they started out as friends who fell in love, got married and had all the moments in between before adopting a set of twins. I loved their story because it showed their entire journey. True, the show was a comedy but their story didn't end in season 5 when they started dating. Their story just began.
It's hard understanding writers who feel that only the journey matters. Of course it does. The journey is important. It's what makes you root for a couple but the destination and what happens after is important too. It makes you continue rooting for them, seeing all that angst and pain amounting to something substantial in the end.
So as much as I loved PJ, the fact that they kept us guessing until the last 5 minutes before we realized who she chose was too much. The long, drawn out, multi-season, will they/won't they storytelling style is one I'll never be a fan of.
Which leads me to Malex.
They were two broken boys, both brought up under horrible circumstances, who found the missing piece of themselves in each other. When Alex gave Michael a warm and safe place to stay, it was probably the first act of true kindness Michael had ever experienced and it was made by a boy whose pain and suffering mirrored his own. How incredibly heartbreaking but beautiful is that? That initial bond, that "cosmic" connection stood the test of time. Separated for 10 years and it felt like no time had passed at all.
That first moment in the pilot episode outside his Airstream, you could feel the tension. I remember reading interpretations of that scene. People thought Malex were cold and angry with one another "probably over a girl". Are you kidding me? That tension could only be romantic. But that first kiss at the reunion was when I hopped on the Malex Forever train. One stop only. Endgame.
They set them up so amazingly in the first three episodes. The angst was there but you could also feel the deep love between them. They weren't shown as two guys who had a fling back in high school and then crossed paths again 10 years later, said what the hell and hooked up again. No, they were shown as soulmates. Their level of connection even scared and confused them but they both knew it existed. Their love was pure and true and rare.
With all their history and with so many odds already stacked against them, the writers deciding to throw in a triangle just because they could and doing it in such a rushed and messy way really made me scratch my head.
Carina said she loved the triangle on DC. I honestly think she was the only one. That show was incredibly divided, DJ vs PJ. But as much as I hated the constant back and forth, I'll give the DC writers some credit. Joey's feelings for both were fully touched on. I saw her romantic feelings for Pacey more profound and her feelings for Dawson as true friendship (just my opinion), but both sides were shown in depth.
The problem with Roswell? Where did those feelings come from between M&M? They shared a moment when Maria cried and I took that as the start of a wonderful friendship. I was obviously wrong. They hooked up in the desert. OK I hated it but they were two single people and Maria didn't know about Alex so I accepted. All of a sudden, the feelings were real and Maria was conflicted because of how strong her feelings were. Michael chose to be with Maria because he needed something fresh and new and according to the wonderful Vlamis, someone he also had strong feelings for (still hate that last interview LOL).
I understand where Michael was coming from a little better, as much as I hate it and hate how he went about it by leaving Alex just waiting. He'd been through so much trauma and Max and Isobel kept telling him to stop looking to the past (which, really Max? If someone told you that about Liz, would you listen?? But he died so he gets a pass). But as far as Maria's feelings are concerned, I feel like I missed something.
Between episodes 9 and 10, did the M&M feelings bloom overnight from flirty banter to crush to "OMG this is love"? Was their moment in the desert that mind-blowing that the weirdness of episode 11 happened? I don't get it.
The one thing going against M&M is that Malex is overwhelmingly loved and has been embraced by fans and critics alike.
One critic said it best when they reviewed the finale (Vulture).
"I was intrigued by the possibility of Michael/Maria at first, but the love triangle has been so rushed — with so little time spent on Maria’s developing feelings for Michael — that it’s ended up just making her look terrible. We know from Maria’s conversation with Liz that she hasn’t even spoken to Alex about the situation because she feels too guilty, and so having her accept Michael with open arms is such an odd note. Sure, she doesn’t know Alex is waiting for Michael right at the same moment, but she does know that hes been in love with Michael for a decade."
And therein lies the problem. A lifelong friendship ruined over a guy (unless Carina makes Alex give his blessing next season which would really make me scream) to push forward a pairing that had little development and makes Maria look bad. One side of the triangle is Michael's soulmate and the other side is the friend with sudden feelings. Not the best character development which is sad because we know how awesome Maria can be and as mad as I am with her, her character that I enjoyed until episode 10 and the actress deserve better. But instead of being original, the writers chose the path always taken. They chose to use her as the odd end of a triangle where, unless they want everyone to hate the show, she will likely be the one forced out so Malex can eventually reunite and for what? Drama?
Season 1 started out really strong and it still had a lot of strong moments in the latter episodes (end scene of episode 9 between Malex, Liz & Jenna being kickass in episode 11, all of episode 12 - my fave of the season, Kyle's confrontation with Jesse etc).
But honestly, I feel like the inclusion of this triangle (amongst other reveals like Noah as the 4th alien) somewhat brought the story down. The writing for M&M felt OOC and was messily done.
Only in recent years have LGBT pairings started becoming more mainstream, given better development and importance in the overall story. With Malex, they have the potential of making Michael and Alex one of the greatest love stories on TV. As much as I love the show, I'm not saying Roswell is on the same level as Breaking Bad or The Sopranos etc. But from all the pairings on the show, Malex is the most profound and has the potential to go down as one of the best on TV. To overcome everything they've been through and still choose each other and their love would be the ultimate happy ending because unlike most male/female pairings that go through mostly regular angst, being two males in a small town, Malex have a whole other level of obstacles to face. That doesn't even include their personal history, the fact that Michael is an alien or that Alex's father is the cause of so much pain between them. Or the fact that Alex is a disabled war veteran. I mean, there is so much amazing points to their story. They are the OTP of OTPs.
But so far, it feels like the triangle is the only major roadblock the writers want to concentrate on and that's the biggest mistake of all.
Season 2 hasn't aired yet. We don't know how little (🤞) or how long (😢) M&M will last. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes and hope that Twitter Carina is not the same as Season 2 showrunner Carina.
But for me, Malex will always be each other's endgame. That's what I saw in the first 3 episodes. That's what I saw in the flashbacks. That's what I saw in Caulfield. Try and convince me differently, show. You'll fail.
