Give You My Shoulder (Mike Schmidt X Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: It’s not uncommon for Mike to have a nightmare, mainly from reliving the trauma of his brother being taken. Luckily, he doesn’t sleep alone anymore.
***
When you moved in with Mike and Abby after a year or so of dating, they were both ecstatic. Abby loved you; you were by far her favorite babysitter. And Mike was finally able to spend more time with you beyond seeing each other for a few minutes during lunch breaks and before you left the house after babysitting. Now that you lived with them, he could come home without having to deal with the sadness of you leaving.
But the nights took him a while to get used to. He, of course, loved being able to hold you and be near you while you two slept. But Mike had become so used to reliving the past when he was dreaming, usually waking up frustrated and scared when he realized he was once again unable to save his little brother.
You knew about all of this: the dreams, losing his brother, his traumatic life. You always did your best to comfort him, but you could only do so much.
When you moved in, he did his best to stop going through his memories. He kept the sleeping pills and nature sounds tape in his nightstand drawer. He’d wrap you in his arms and fall asleep to the feeling of your nails dragging through his scalp, listening to your breathing.
But old habits die hard.
You and Abby were dead asleep in your rooms when Mike came home. He had gotten home late at night after work, completely exhausted. He couldn’t wait to sink into his mattress beside you.
He tried for about an hour, laying in every different position and squeezing his eyes shut. But it was no use. Despite being tired, he couldn’t fall asleep.
Mike turned to lay on his back, sighing in frustration. And that’s when he saw it.
The Nebraska poster.
He looked over at you, watching your peaceful sleeping form. It couldn’t hurt to just do it one time.
As quietly as possible, Mike opened his nightstand drawer and took out his bottle of pills and tape player. He sat up and took one of the pills before playing the tape. He took a deep breath as the sounds of nature filled the room, letting it overtake him. Mike laid back down and looked up at the Nebraska poster, gently grabbing your hand as he waited for the moment he would drift off, back to Garrett and his family.
Before he knew it, he was back at the camping grounds, a kid again. Garrett ran around with his toy plane, and Mike and his parents smiled at the sight. Mike went through the memory like he always did, filled with nostalgic joy as if he didn’t know what was gonna happen next.
And then it happened.
Mike ran, yelling for Garrett as his brother waved at him from the backseat of the car that drove off. He tried looking for new details: a face, a definite clue, anything. But when he looked around, the woods became empty. The only living things were him and the trees.
His name was faintly called out, catching him off guard. This was something new, which should have excited him. It should’ve given Mike hope that this new thing would lead him to his brother. But instead, he freaked out even more, wondering where the voice was coming from and why it was the only thing he could hear.
“Mike!”
The man jolted awake, gasping in surprise as he frantically looked around. He was back in his bedroom, with you looking at him in concern and talking softly.
“Mike, honey, you’re okay.” You whispered to him, squeezing his shoulders to try to get his attention. “You’re okay. What happened?”
Mike slowed his breathing, trying to calm down. He felt ashamed that you were seeing him like this, yet all you did was look at him with love and a listening ear.
“I tried to find him…” He said sadly, and you immediately knew what he meant. You bundled Mike up in your arms, allowing the few tears that he let slip to fall on your shoulder. “I was supposed to look after him.”
“It’s not your fault.” You whispered, wishing you could take away the guilt that constantly weighed on Mike.
“I could’ve saved him.”
“Just because you couldn’t doesn’t mean you didn’t try, Mike.” You tried to look at him as best as you could, with his head being in the crook of your neck. “I can’t even begin to imagine how it must feel to live what you’ve lived through. You’ve been through things that no one deserves. I know you couldn’t save Garrett, and that it probably eats away at you all the time.” You petted Mike’s hair, which was slightly damp from his sweat. But you couldn’t care less. “But I think you’ve been given a second chance.”
“What do you mean?” Mike asked, picking his head up from your shoulder but still leaning into you.
“You have Abby. I know she’ll never replace your brother, but I don’t think he’d want you living in the past trying to find him again… Healing from what you’ve been through won’t be linear, and there might always be a part of you that’s hurting.” You rubbed Mike’s back, feeling his body slowly relax against yours. “But you could honor Garrett and his life by doing the things you never got to do with him with Abby.”
Mike was silent, taking in your words. You worried that maybe you overstepped, or said something wrong.
But then Mike squeezed your hand. He nodded slowly before giving you a quick but gentle peck on the lips, as if to say thank you. He laid back down, urging you to do the same.
“I love you.” He said softly while looking at you, eyes still glassy from his tears. You wiped the ones that had fallen off of his cheeks.
“I love you too, Mikey.”

hi!! would you be able to do a tsu’tey x fem! dreamwalker reader? i always think about that scene where neytiri cradles human jake in her arms as he’s “dying” and it’s just so sweet. would you be able to do something similar but with the reader and tsu’tey? like she’s a dreamwalker with the avatar program (maybe a teacher? idk!) and she met tsu’tey and like fell in love with him so he is just absolutely frantic when he thinks she’s going to die. (let’s just pretend he didn’t die LMFAO) thank u!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
♡. "I see you." —
Tumblr media
synopsis / tsu'tey is yours.
gn!avatar!reader | wopwop👍🏻 reader is kind of in distress right now since unlike jake they do not know the way of battle and are actually a scientist NOT a marine @kiiyevame hi. so I heard you liked tsu'tey

zdinarsk was a stubborn fucker.
it's what she was built to be‐ stubborn and strong. her punches were known to cause immediate knock outs — her kicks broke ribs, her forehead was so hard that when slammed onto another person's forehead— they'd lose half of their braincells. a knife was more than just a weapon in her hands, it was a scythe. every reaper needed a scythe. zdinarsk? brought death wherever she went.
you just hoped she didn't bring it to you.
"come out, come out wherever the fuck you are, you fuckin bitch —" zdinarsk sneered, knife in her hands and held in such a murderous way. you had to hold in a whimper at that. god, this woman is terrifying. "you fuckin' slashed me. seemed a bit freaked out when ya did, though. you new to killing? let me give you some pointers!" she said, feigning kindness. "number one, hold yer blade like a banana." she started, and you could hear her footsteps getting closer and closer. "number two, be smart. find a good hiding spot if ye don't wanna get caught. dumbass bitch..." she muttered, and you swear you're seven seconds away from dying right now.
your eyes don't hover from the lab, because although you can only see it from the corner of your eye— you can see it. that's enough. that's hope.
a knife is slammed into your avatar's leg—you cry in pain. and you run.
you run straight to nowhere , you run to the trees and their embrace and you hope that she won't see you. you can hear zdinarsk calling for backup, and you can hear the march. their march of fuckin' absolute death.
you are screwed.
you are so, so screwed.
you jump through the forests— your leg aching with every step you take, and yet you run. you run for yourself, you run for jake, for neytiri, for mo'at, saeyla, ka'ani, for all the friends you made on pandora — who taught you everything you needed to know in order to truly be one of the people. you fought and you are still fighting for them, because as you run, you escape from every marine's clutches while sabotaging their tech and stealing their weaponry— because you've always had good hands. it's best those hands do what they're meant to do. there is a sharp pain that grows each step , and it has been growing ever since you sped away from zdinarsk— but still.
you run.
if not for yourself, then for him.
Tumblr media
"FLY!" you commanded your ikran, and it obliged. way too quickly— as you screamed, the ikran accelerating at ... unbelievable heights; neytiri & jake watched in amusement. tsu'tey, however, observed you carefully. he watched as you slowly adapted — and he watched your terrified face turn into a happy one. your smile was big— your laugh was absolutely melodic. your laugh, oh— your laugh. tsu'tey couldn't get enough of it.
"join them." neytiri pushed tsu'tey, recently snapped out of his trance— "it is expected, you are their teacher." she said, and tsu'tey agreed. not because it was expected— because he got to look at you. he called for his ikran and bolted for you. he couldn't help this feeling he felt— because of you, a dreamwalker. a dreamwalker so stupid he was positive your brain was made of viperwolf shit mushed into one big miserable dough. a dreamwalker who, slowly but surely, got him to open up. a dreamwalker who ...
who was kind.
"HOLY SHIT!" you yowled, a phrase you'd seem to have adapted in your time here on pandora. you steered your ikran left, and then right— and then left again, laughing as you took ahold of the ropes and for once, were positive to say you knew how to do this. which is weird because pandora is a place full of things you don't know. you don't want to think about that. you continue to fuck around with your ikran— who seems to have grown accustomed to the name "susan." you don't know whether you should name her that or not, but it seems appropriate.
"well done!" a voice applauds, and you almost fall off your ikran— only for you to realize, oh, it's tsu'tey. "not bad." he said, you smiled at him. "I made ya proud!" you exclaimed, he can only close his eyes and nod. your eyes, however, went as wide as saucers— jaw dropped. "I made ya proud?!" you repeated, "I made ya proud!" tsu'tey nods once again— his ikran steering left as yours followed. almost like your ikran knew you'd follow tsu'tey.
now, & to the ends of the earth.
Tumblr media
"now that you are omaticaya, y/n.. you may make your bow from the wood of the hometree." tsu'tey explained, as he laid with you on the tallest mountain you could find— you stared at the stars, he stared at you. "really?" you asked, "really." tsu'tey confirmed. "you are also eligible to find yourself a mate." he added, "really?" you asked again, in awe, and he sighed— "really." he confirmed. you giggled, you had always been passionate about love afterall.
"y/n."
"hm?"
"who are you interested in?"
what a strange question from such a stoic man. very straightforward, you thought. who were you interested in? him , of course. it had always been him. it will only ever be him. tsu'tey, tsu'tey, tsu'tey.
"tsu'tey." you muttered, nonchalantly. to that, he got up immediately— caught off guard. you did too, except instead of being caught off guard— you were absolutely horrified. you had just admitted you were interested in the greatest warrior of the omaticaya clan. infront of him.
'that's another type of insanity, y/n' you thought, 'that's another type of insanity.'
tsu'tey could only stare at you aghast, both at your boldness and the fact that — that was the push he really needed. to realize he loved you too.
"you have chosen me?" he asks,
you sigh, and with nothing to lose, you nod.
"tsu'tey, I have chosen you."
his breath hitches, and he nods— taking in the information before he leans in closer, and you see in his eyes a galaxy— a galaxy so full of life— and his hands make their way to your waist and they're calloused and rough except what else do you expect? tsu'tey protects this clan. tsu'tey is a defender.
and as tsu'tey looks down on you, mouth parting to deliver words you've been aching to hear for centuries —
"y/n, I have chosen you."
tsu'tey is yours.
your lips lock and you feel your knees go weak, your skin melting from how hot it was suddenly getting. tsu'tey was the one who pulled away, it seemed. yet, you can't get enough — you kiss him again, and again, and again– and he has to place a hand on your chest to stop you, in order to do what he has to do. he delicately pulls his tswin , holding it out— and you do the same. you steer your tswins, closer and closer until finally —
they connect.
they connect and suddenly, you're overwhelmed with so many senses and feelings and thoughts and you can't help but shiver— your hands twitching, your pupils dilating— you gasp at the sudden sensation. you need to get your hands on tsu'tey— anywhere, anyhow. just now.
tsu'tey isn't being much calmer, naturally. his hands are balled into fists— nails digging into the palm because he's afraid if he tries to make contact with you without grounding himself, he'll break you. it isn't hard to accept the fact that you are meant to be, at this point. tsu'tey wants to feel you. tsu'tey wants to know what it's like to be trapped inside of your heart. he wants to know, if he were to show you all of him— would you feel this way too?
as his lips align with yours — you know you are fated.
Tumblr media
your reminiscing has seemed to have halted.
zdinarsk corners you, wainfleet and walker at her side. you hiss as you ready your knife – zdinarsk prepares to taze you, it is a duel at this point. who attacks who first? who ends victorious?
it wasn't your lucky day.
in mere seconds your avatar is splayed on the soil of Pandora— next to the lab. near a certain warrior, who seems very busy fighting off sky demons right about now. zdinarsk looks at your knocked out avatar self, and she snickers.
then an arrow goes through her head.
tsu'tey immediately flees to the scene, "Y/N!" he calls for you, and yet there is no answer. he shakes you as hard as he can, crying your name out — desperation seeping in as he prays, and as you fade in and out of consciousness, you can only point to the lab— so near and yet so far. "...lab." you mutter, " I am there. " tsu'tey looks confused. you ... are on the verge of clocking out. "go, tsu'tey. go."
then everything fades to black, and your back in the pod and suddenly it's just so hard to breathe and you can barely speak and the sirens are so loud and you're getting ... you're getting overwhelmed. everything is a bit tripper today. your eyes see nothing but rainbow color objects. you fall off your pod as you cough, reaching for the oxygen mask— except you can't. you're too weak. it's been more than 10 seconds and you can barely breathe. everything is going so much faster, right now.
It is in these seconds , you experience your life.
tsu'tey is in most of your memories. it is always him, only him. first meeting him, taming a direhorse with his help, slowly getting used to the na'vi lifestyle, flying on your ikran, falling off a tree, waking up next to him on that mountain, everything. in all your memories , he is featured.
you wouldn't have it any other way.
a slab of blue appears as your vision blurs.
"y/n?!" it calls. the voice is wary, hoarse & a voice cracking was undeniable–
tsu'tey.
that's tsu'tey.
he was horrified. he had just got you, and now he was seconds away from losing you— it's enough to make him tear up at the thought. "no, no, no —" he muttered, eyes panicky. "no! no! ma y/n! ma y/n!"
"ma y/n!" he yelled once more, then— picking you up along with the emergency oxygen mask. he placed it on your face and you could swear you heard a whimper come out of his throat at your state— you jolted out of your trance, twisting the gears of the mask — oxygen flowing into your body as you coughed violently after such long exposure to the air. "ma y/n..." he said, his voice soft. "you are safe?" he had asked then— and you nodded.
it is only then tsu'tey fully processes your human form. it is small, very small. you also seem to be very soft. your eyes are different color, and yet your features are still similar to the you he knew— and even with this little you, whose not what he expected to fall in love with, he still loves you. "tsu'tey?" you refer to him, noticing he is far too spaced out. in response, he leans closer to you and placed his forehead as close as he can to yours. you giggle— "I see you." it comes off as more than a greeting, it comes off as a profession of love. tsu'tey responds,
"I see you."

How do you think jhutch characters would handle a baby?
I'm not quite sure if you're asking "what would they do if you handed them a baby" or "what would they do if you told them you're pregnant" but I'm gonna assume you meant the latter. (feel free to send another request if I got it wrong)
Ranking Jhutch characters from worst to best fathers:
Billy
☆ Would play dumb when you hand him the pregnancy test.
☆ "What's this? Oh, you're pregnant? Can't be mine. My pull-out game is too strong." (literally has NO pull-out game, refuses to use condoms because he "can't feel" with them on)
☆ Basically ghosts you until the paternity test proves it's his. Then he actually ghosts you.
☆ Drops off the face of the fucking Earth for years. Doesn't pay a dime in child support.
☆ Maybe he comes back like 3 years later drunk and demanding to see "his" kid idk. Literally the worst.
Derek
☆ Honestly I headcannon he had a vasectomy at like 24-25.
☆ His mom hit him up once she heard about his prostitute scandals and chewed him out. Gave him "the talk" even though he's a grown ass man... finally got him to get snipped when she brought up the possibility of paying income-based child support for 18 years.
☆ Assuming he doesn't have one, though...
☆ He'd initially be mad and blame you. "I thought you were on the pill!!"
☆ Then he'd be like "Is it too late to... you know... get rid of it?" (and kind of dance around the subject because he's too much of a wimp to just say the word abortion)
☆ Wallace and his mom would both force him to get his shit together and apologize. Eventually he'd come to terms with the fact he's gonna be a dad.
☆ He'd be the kind of bastard to throw an over-the-top gender reveal party. The kind that burns down half of California or pollutes a major water channel.
☆ I think he'd be a really good girl dad. He'd let her paint his nails and stuff. Spoil her. <3
☆ He would treat a son completely differently. Teach him to "be a man" or whatever when he's still learning to walk. Force him into random ass sports.
☆ He'd have them mostly taken care of by a nanny. That's probably how he was raised, anyways. Derek Danforth is NOT changing a diaper.
Futturman
☆ Whether we're talking pre-show or post-show, he'd freak the fuck out if you handed him a positive pregnancy test. I'm talking full-on pass out.
☆ Pre-show Josh would be like "Babe we can NOT afford a baby I literally live at home with my parents and work as a janitor."
☆ His parents would be so crazy supportive though. They've been hinting that they want grandkids for YEARS.
☆ They literally clear out a room IMMIDEATELY after hearing the news and offer it to you to use as a nursery.
☆ His mom buys you more baby clothes than you could possibly need. His dad builds a crib from scratch.
☆ Overall Josh is stressed asf but he does his best to be there for you, and his parents are OVERWHELMIGLY supportive.
☆ Post-show Josh, on the other hand, doesn't have that support. But he's survived unspeakable horrors across multiple dimensions, how hard could a baby be?
☆ Extremely hard, apparently. One day he just loses it and makes a huge decision without asking you.
☆ "Josh WTF happened to our savings??"
☆ "TRUST ME BABE we need to invest in Apple!!"
☆ You're pissed but it pays off in a few years and you're both able to live comfortably.
☆ Then in 2015-ish he did the same thing again, pouring all your savings into bitcoin. This time you SWEAR you're going to leave him, but it all pays out in the end. He gets your kid through college with that money.
☆ Overall he's a really good father, too. He had great parents, and even if he's not experienced with kids, he's naturally a very caring and attentive person.
Mike
☆ Cries when he sees the pregnancy test. He's not even sure if it's happy or sad tears.
☆ Gets sick to his stomach overthinking about how he's going to be a terrible father. His dad walked out on him, so he has literally no idea how to act.
☆ Abby, on the other hand, is absolutely delighted. She's always wanted a "little sister". Mike has to remind her that technically it's her niece. Or nephew. There's no guarantee on the gender yet.
☆ Eventually he comes to terms with it all. He's taken care of Abby for ten years, he isn't completely clueless.
☆ Takes you to all of your Dr.'s appointments, checkups, etc. Holds your hand. Makes all of your weird pregnancy cravings and doesn't judge.
☆ After the birth, he lets you rest. Nearly works himself to death trying to take care of the baby all on his own because he wants you to recover.
☆ I'm talking getting up bleary-eyed at 2am every night to microwave some formula and feed the baby. After working a 10 hour shift.
☆ Pulls the "I have a baby on the way" card at work in an attempt to get a raise. It works, thankfully. (In the novel version of the movie; it says he gets a job as a contractor at the end. So hopefully he can afford a kid...)

[Remember: these are just MY headcannons. If you think differently that's fine. I didn't include Clapton because he's literally in highschool... and we all know Peeta is an amazing father.]

CHAPTER 13 - FLASHBACK: THREE
note: the next couple of chapters will be heavily influenced by the ova 'no regrets'. they are my interpretations of the material. please watch those episode first, otherwise you will get spoiled on elements revolving around levi's backstory.
“All those years of street fighting and that’s the best you got?”
“Oh shut up, Ackerman.”
You’re getting pretty sick of tasting an invasion of dirt in your mouth every time Levi Ackerman harshly slams you into the ground, demanding surrender. Forget seeing stars — you’re mapping constellations every time you go toe-to-toe in his sparring sessions.
Whether it’s from a sweep of your legs, an arm popping behind your back, a head-butt out of a grapple, this hurts.
Yet you still show up during downtime anyway.
Maybe the years of running recklessly with Furlan’s crew has helped you lose a couple of brain cells along the way.
.
.
.
.
Fifteen comes and goes in a flash.
That first night, the choice to escape the clutches of your adoptive keeper, was met with little to no thought.
Levi held out his hand to you, and you chose to never look back.
When you arrived at Levi's apartment, you're surprised to find an unassuming apartment with a set of stairs leading to the second floor where he lives with Furlan Church. You carried burdensome baggage through the building’s threshold, as the only things you had to your name were the clothes on your back and the bruising on your skin.
Eventually the bruises lightened, and Levi keeps his promise:
No one comes after you.
No one dares — not when you were under his wing.
Much to your surprise, Furlan Church was excited for your arrival. Thrilled, even, that Levi could get you to agree to joining their budding heist team.
When you first stepped into the apartment, you were greeted with the presence of a lanky boy sporting a lopsided smile and soft, spiky ash-blonde still wet from an evening shower. He wore similar clothes to Levi: a button-down hung wide open to display his chest and slacks a little too big for his frame.
Furlan was so much different than what the streets claimed he was: most suggested he was cunning and angry, a force to be reckoned with, but what stood in front of you that night was simply a teenager just like you looking to change the hand that starves him.
While bringing someone else into the mix meant the apartment lost a little space, it was more comfortable than anything you had ever experienced in your life.
They gave you your own room. A bed to sleep on. A small dresser for the possessions you don’t own. Towels. Food in your belly.
Given his smaller frame, you were forced to rely on Levi’s old clothes until you were able to find — more like steal — threads of your own. The only gotcha was the promise to keep them clean, neat, pressed and folded.
He wouldn’t let you abuse what little he owned, and you learned quickly just how much of a clean freak this mirage of a boy really was.
Spotless. Pristine. Scrubbing here, sweeping there—
Every day and every night.
And you were expected to contribute, so you did.
For weeks the three of you coexisted under the same roof.
Furlan was funny. Levi won every card game.
It felt like your own version of family.
(Something that wasn’t twisted, gnarled, from darkness.)
After some time had passed, the boys would finally let you in on their most precious secret:
The reason Levi Ackerman and Furlan Church were so successful in comparison to the other gangs floating around this godforsaken city.
“So it’s true.”
You sit on the dilapidated couch while you watch Levi clean the nooks and crannies of the boxy silver gear lying on the table.
Furlan beams on the opposite end of the table, arm lazily draped against its surface.
“Ch’yeah. Kind of amazing, isn’t it?”
Omni-directional Mobile Gear.
The shit you can only get from the military.
Your brows knit with curiosity. “How’d you manage that?”
“Ha — it wasn’t easy,” Furlan tells you, re-crossing his legs. “Took weeks to plan.”
“And you know how to use it?” you ask, but it’s not to him.
Levi never pauses his motions, but his eyes flicker up when he detects your vocal direction. “Well enough,” the dark-haired boy provides. “If the pigs can learn how to use it on the surface, then it wouldn’t be so hard to teach ourselves.”
“Damn…”
Leaning over, your forearms press hard into the tops of your thighs.
“When people said they thought they saw some of our own zipping around the Underground, I thought they were maybe drinking from sewage.”
“Sorry we couldn’t tell you sooner,” Furlan laments, scratching at the back of his neck. “It’s nothing against you—”
“But it’s a big secret,” you finish for him, nodding in understanding. “I get it. It was smart.”
“And now we’ll teach you.”
Furlan glances to his left when Levi speaks with certainty.
Levi takes a minute longer to linger his eyes on you before going back to the gear. He continues to address you.
“We needed a fighter who knows how to stay on their feet.”
“Ah, so that’s why you got the shit beat out of me — to see if I can handle ODM gear?” you ask sarcastically, directing your gaze to Furlan. “Thanks for that, by the way.”
“What? It was only fair, code is code. I couldn’t give you special treatment!” Furlan yelps. “C’mon, just because Levi endorsed you—”
“Oi,” Levi interrupts, narrowing his eyes to the other boy.
You slowly grin. “Endorsed? This is news to me.”
“Drop it,” Levi warns.
“Dropped,” Furlan promises.
You want to keep pushing, but instead you stand to your feet and walk to the table where the stolen ODM gear lay.
You run a finger over a metallic edge, noting just how hefty the equipment must actually be.
“What’s so tough about this shit, anyway?”
“Well, it’s…” Furlan starts to speak up, but he grimaces with an unspoken apology. The two exchange looks, both in the know — and you’ll soon be, too. “A little jerky.”
“In what way?”
“As in you have to use your core and keep your balance. It’s harder than it looks.”
Furlan’s not fucking kidding.
Your first attempt at harnessing into ODM gear is rough. Wall into wall into wall — the recovering shiner on your forehead now sports fresh purples and blues in the second try; the third, the fourth.
Levi uses the equipment seamlessly, flying around the cavernous walls of this hellscape like it’s a natural gift.
Furlan’s just about as good, consistently leaving you in the dust.
Day in and day out you follow their instructions and practice until every muscle is sore in your body; until the feel of the equipment on your hips, in your hands is an extension of yourself; until things just click.
Zipping from buildings, increasing velocity, landing on your two feet.
It brings you that much closer to a power so few Underground City citizens possess.
Little by little, you learn about the mirage of a boy with your life in his hands. Levi Ackerman is a fully actualized person, with quirks and aspirations and feelings — though you’d be hard pressed to know them yourself, as he keeps everything close to the vest.
He is stoic, calm in even the worst situations, and particular. He fights with clean brutality. You eventually find out that the man who trained Levi wasn’t his father, but Kenny the Ripper — a boogeyman you and your siblings had heard about in passing without fully realizing you’d ever crossed paths.
None of the scary stories about Kenny the Ripper involved a ward in his possession, so Levi is just as much of a ghost as you are.
Although the story of his upbringing passes through blurred lines and inferred details, you come to learn that most — if not all — of Levi’s swift tricks are passed down through meticulous training and trials by Kenny himself.
(No wonder he’s so ruthless.)
After a few weeks, Levi’s willing to show you some of his best hand-to-hand tricks himself.
Although you two possess completely different fighting styles — one erratic, the other calculated — it culminates and meshes somewhere in the middle, where ferocity and strategy marry.
Fighting becomes fun, whether either of you admit it or not.
A stress release after a long day.
A constant in an eternal night.
You never ask how Kenny taking him under his wing came to pass, but he never asks about your history with Mother, either.
It’s better that way. Not talking about it dissolves the impact Mother had on your life.
It lessens both of your former guardians authority.
(As for Mother, she never tries to find you. Even when you walk the old paths where street fights continue, you never see her face in passing. Rumors spread that her drinking problem got the best of her. You imagine Levi has something to do with her expiration, whether he'll ever admit it or not.)
Petty theft, money heists, intimidation — you rack up the offenses against your name and double the notoriety of your trio.
The citizens of the Underground look twice when you walk by. They never once try to touch or attack you again.
Church, Ackerman, James.
Always together. Always in sync.
It’s paradise.

  Sixteen is a slow burn.
Complicated heists mean complicated teams, and Furlan puts himself in charge of divvying up the goods while Levi investigates potential candidates. A team of two turns into three, three turns into four, and soon enough there is a network of reliable bodies willing to lay their lives on the line for a chance to work with the three of you.
Sometimes the job requires Levi to leave for days, but he makes it a point to come back to this cramped apartment with bags full of food and goodies for your hard-working gang.
(You’ve noticed he is particular about smuggling tea back home, particularly the leaves only available to purchase on the surface. It’s ballsy, but he gets it done.)
In a strange way, you miss when he’s away.
And when he's away, it's usually just you and Furlan — until it isn't.
Because Isabel Magnolia, a short and spunky ginger-haired menace, becomes an unexpected fourth addition in the leadership squad.
In a testosterone-fueled household, the younger woman is a breath of fresh air for you. Idealistic, brave, and bold above all else — Levi and Furlan stumbled into her while she was in the midst of an escape from Military Police.
Something about making unauthorized trips to the city stairwell, illegally ignoring the tolls to do some of the most ludicrous shit that only a teenager would do.
Like save baby birds from the surface, as if they’d somehow survive down in the Underground.
(That bird did. Furlan swears it’s the magic of Isabel’s optimism.)
Isabel ends up sleeping in your room in a makeshift cot on the floor, squawking your ear off in excitement to the point of a headache.
Still, it’s nice to have company, especially when the boys are recruiting or completing deals.
The four of you as a unit feels right. By now you’ve come to appreciate Furlan’s jokes, admire Levi’s seriousness, partake in Isabel’s dreams; they’ve each played a part in cracking your own hardened shell, shaping you into this —
Not the James your Mother created, but the James your friends accepted.
You’ve even told them your first name, the real name you were born with. They keep that name like a sacred oath, something special those three (and only those three) can say. It becomes something of a last name for you, something to be respected. The rest of the gang know you solely as James, yet you've grown to no longer loathe being called such.
(Not when it’s on their lips.)
And you like her — this person named James.
You like that she’s capable of being reliable to a team of people with their own strengths.
You like that Isabel gives her hope in the middle of her babbles at the stroke of midnight.
You like that Furlan discovers what her real laugh sounds like — straight from her belly and up to her chest — and it’s loud and obnoxious and genuine.
The sound even gets Levi to crack, if only for a twitch at the corner of his lips.
Shit.
Levi.
You like that he’s particular with his teas and trusts you enough to share the reasons why.
You like that he puts his hands on your hips when you’re practicing ODM gear.
You like that he isn’t afraid to touch your sweat-matted hair after a spar to tuck it behind your ear, like you’re nothing dirty to him.
And you realize the James you’re becoming will do just about anything Levi Ackerman asks.
.
.
.
.
  Seventeen is complicated.
Messy is a better word — Yinter’s massive fuck-up on the South Region heist puts a halt on any and all jobs for the rest of the year.
One of the newest recruits, Yinter, panicked in the midst of his attempt at robbery, causing the rest of his squad to almost get caught by meandering Military Police.
Cleaning up the tracks of an inexperienced team took several weeks of tireless labor and moving supplies around, but the gang managed.
What once ran as a worried whisper in the Underground is now loud and on the tips of the MPs tongues, placing a target on the backs of four cocky teenagers leading the charge.
All of you should have known navigating the crime world by the skin of your teeth was risky.
At the beginning, the idea of a lawless gang was beautiful.
However, Furlan’s a little more of a dreamer in the sense that he sees the unattainable and runs with it. Sometimes his head is so far up his ass that he thinks none of this will blow back onto any of you.
Maybe it can damage some of the runts, sure, but he thinks leadership’s plans and aspirations are fool proof.
You disagree. Loudly.
Now you’re certain Furlan’s sometimes pissed that Levi ever suggested they recruit you with your constant pushback of his ideas. Levi never seems to express any doubt towards you, but that doesn’t stop him from being the Devil’s Advocate thorn in your side.
Sometimes you and Levi Ackerman bicker.
Sometimes it's a lot of bickering — about the little things like team preferences and heist plans, times and locations.
Yet more often than not, the two of you always land in the same archaic loop: fist-to-fist sparring, taking out your frustrations in the most natural way you know how. Ducking and dodging until your tempers simmer and you run out steam.
Until frustration turns into playful, heated banter.
A secret language for two.
(You'll never stop fighting, you realize too little too late, but neither will he.)
You kick and you punch and you watch Levi slam you into the ground again and again and again — the scrawny teenager always ends up on top of you, wrists pinned to your head, declaring your surrender.
Glare to glare, out of breath and spent, the fight ends when you burst into laughter from how scrunched his nose gets when he’s hell bent on winning.
It used to be funny.
Yet with each passing week, each dying month, warmth surges through your belly when he pins you down.
It would be easy, you think, to do something stupid.
You can’t afford to be the stupid one of the group.
.
.
.
.
Last week marked your eighteenth birthday.
A party is reckless, but Furlan wants to celebrate something after the Yinter accident with the spoils of the last successful heist: booze, food, rationed cigarettes, the works.
You aren’t naïve to what partying means, even if you’ve never partaken in the act yourself. The Underground is full of red-light districts if you know where to look: people piss away their money to eliminate their troubles in the arms of others, in the bottle of a stolen vintage whiskey, in the spices that can ascend far past the surface into somewhere better.
Levi is sorely against the idea.
Furlan, for once, pulls seniority.
Which leads to why Levi’s so damn determined to kick your ass right now — if he can’t vocalize how annoyed he is, then he sure as hell will exert enough energy to pass out before the event even starts.
“All those years of street fighting and that’s the best you got?”
“Oh shut up, Ackerman.”
A nonchalant boot digs into your side, bringing you back to the Underground.
“Get up.”
You grit your teeth, counting down the seconds. “Actually, I kinda dig it down here.”
“Seriously—?”
It’s enough of a distraction to earn yourself much-needed time to reset and win.
Pulling as hard as you possibly can, you use your core and sweep his leg. Levi makes a noise of surprise as he’s airborne, only to crash beside you in a nasty thud.
You crawl up the young man's body to press your arm into his windpipe, daring him to fight back. Your knees cradle his hips, trapping him beneath.
“Dirty trick,” he spits, gritting his teeth, but it doesn’t feel as if he’s trying to escape very fast.
(A phrase he's picked up from you like a bad habit.)
You shrug a shoulder, pressing harder onto his windpipe. He sputters, but his face remains just as neutral as ever.
“What’s got you so pissy today?”
“What?” Levi asks from beneath you. His hands curl around your elbow and fist, but he doesn’t push your forearm away just yet.
“You’re particularly moody.”
“I’m not.”
“Are too.”
He narrows his eyes. “And I’m letting you win.”
“Are not.”
“Wanna bet?”
Easing up on his windpipe, you crawl off of him and extend a hand to help pull him up to a seated position.
Levi begrudgingly takes it, hoisting himself up on the flat of his palm. "Thought we didn’t do draws."
“I don’t wanna look like shit before the party, so I’m calling a draw.”
“So you’re admitting I was winning?”
You roll your eyes into the back of your head, swatting his hand from yours. Levi uses the momentum to prop himself up with his palms behind him, legs outstretched and crossed at the ankles. You stay with your legs folded like a pretzel, hands idle in your lap.
“I’ve never drank before,” you murmur with an excited melody to your tone.
Levi grimaces. “It’s disgusting.”
“I won’t know until I try, right?”
“Can’t you take my word for it?”
“But your taste is so awful.”
It’s a lie, but the immediate scowl sent your way is worth the dramatics. You smile it off.
“I mean, Furlan seems to think it’s fun.”
“Furlan is a dumbass,” Levi replies. “I thought you already knew that.”
“I do, but I still want to at least try it. If I hate it, then you can tell me I told you so. Deal?”
“And if you love it, then that means I’m on babysitting duty.”
"Babysitting?”
“Yeah. I don’t need your drunk ass fighting new recruits.” His scowl deepens. “Or ruining the fucking furniture if you get sick.”
“So pessimistic,” you tease. “Levi, you don’t have to take care of me.”
The conversation dissipates.
Levi keeps his eyes on you for a second longer before turning a chin to stare straight ahead.
You continue to watch him, taking in the sharpness of his nose on his profile.
At nineteen years old, he’s grown into his once sullen face with high cheekbones and a sharp chin. His thin arms are toned under the white button-up he sports, torso cinched by the auburn vest. His fingers have small cuts, but they’re slender. Strong.
You see the way girls look at him when he passes.
He never seems to notice.
.
.
.
.
      “Ja-haaaames!”
A shrill and slurred attempt at your last name brings you back to the rowdiness of the room.
Despite Levi’s best efforts, the party goes without a hitch. A dozen, maybe two, have shown up to enjoy the spoils stolen by the Military Police: at least a crate of wine, a few half-polished bottles of whiskey, and a multitude of cigarette cartons pass through the hands of the hard-working legion that made it happen.
The lack of food in this area makes it easy for people to get sloppy on next to nothing. Within a shot or two — cheered to your name, as if eighteen years of your life in the Underground mean anything at all — half of the crew is loud and rowdy.
Laughing.
Horsing around.
Kissing.
You don’t remember when it is you dissociated from the noise, but it’s Isabel’s voice that guides you back to this cramped little apartment full of people.
“Hello, welcome back,” she greets with a giggle, handing over a tiny medicine cup of a clear liquid. “You’re out, and I need you to be on my level.”
Except you are on her level — where Isabel gets louder and more rambunctious on alcohol, you’ve become quiet, contemplative. You haven’t been able to feel your nose in at least an hour. Everything is warm, deliciously so, and your muscles don’t ache like they usually do.
“Should you even be drinking that stuff, Isa?”
“What, this? Yeah, I’m good.”
“But you’re only—”
“What do ya think about the party so far? Here.” Interrupting her own question, she places the tiny cup in your hand and taps it with her own. “Cheers to you, oh fearless one.”
“Oh stop,” you moan, taking the tiny shot with ease.
The first shot almost made you spit up the drink before it could pass down your throat. The second you forced down, clenching your teeth to air out the burn on your tongue.
Furlan was right: it gets easier every time.
“How many is that?” Isabel asks, flopping back at the wall you lean against.
“Four. Five. I don’t know, I lost count,” you answer honestly, peering down at the empty cup with scrutiny. “I feel like this is going to bite me in the ass.”
Isabel cackles, bumping her shoulder with yours. “That day is not today! C’mon, sis, don’t hide. We already have a party pooper, so you can not join Levi.”
“Levi?” you ask, blinking over to her. “I haven’t seen him.”
“Exactly. Bro’s avoiding everyone like a scaredy cat. God… Levi and James. James and Levi.” Isabel groans into her cup, sipping in contemplation. You already hate where this might be going. “That’s a topic I have wanted to—” She hiccups, taking your medicine cup. “—bring up for a while now.”
If you weren’t so preoccupied at the sound of Levi’s name, then perhaps you’d have sobered up from the neon red sign telling you to avoid this conversation at all costs.
Isabel talks over the volume of the room.
“Well?”
“Well, what?” you repeat.
“You’re going to make me say it?” For a second, your blood returns to your body. It’s spiked with an anxiety you cannot verbalize. “You two were gone for pret-ty long time this afternoon.”
“Yeah,” you quickly solve. “It was sparring hour. We always do that.”
“Not usually for that long, though.” Under a curtain of eyelashes, the redhead blinks up at you with a hope that seizes your head. “So….?”
Oh.
Oh, no.
“We’re friends,” you blurt. “Colleagues, actually, which is a step below friends.”
Isabel blows disappointed raspberries. “Furlan said you two go way back.”
“We do, but—”
“Levi hand-picked you to join the gang.”
“Not really, he—”
“All he ever does is hang out with you.”
“That is not true,” you snip, itching to run. “I mean — okay, some of it is true, but I’m not the only person he talks to. Shit, Isa, I’ve known him since I was a kid. He pulled me out of a bad situation and we — no, it’s nothing like that.”
“Uh-huh.” Isabel mimes zipping her lips closed with her thumb and index finger, only to toss the invisible key somewhere in the crowd.
“Isabel.” You turn towards her, eyes widening in a desperation that even surprises your drunken state. “Get the — get that fucking key back, we aren’t—”
“We aren’t what?”
A deeper voice breaks the moment of insanity, causing Isabel to stare behind you with rounded eyes and a dropped jaw.
You stare back at her, cursing her stupid ginger mop of a head with every crude word under the sun.
Then she does about the worst thing she could do at a time like this.
“Hi, bro! Gotta go!”
“Isa—!”
Too late.
She piles in with the rest of the sloppiness, leaving you to deal with the man over your shoulder.
When you turn, Levi is there — eye-level in height and frowning, brow quirked with mild interest. The shirt he usually has so neatly aligned is popped at the collar and buttoned down to his sternum.
“You’re drunk,” is all he greets with, and the tinge of red on your face only increases.
“A little,” you admit.
To your horror, you see it: the way his lips part while he waits for an explanation, the fall of black strands over his eyes, his expanse of his naked chest—
You’re friends. You are two people who found each other in one fucked up place. You work together, live together, survive together.
So why would Isabel feel the need to open a door that you had no clue was unlocked?
“Oi.” Squinting, Levi leans in to study the drain of color from your face. “Are you—”
“I don’t feel so good.”
You don’t wait for Levi to register your interruption, instead curving past him towards the open door leading to the dead air of the Underground City.
Walking until there aren’t any bodies to stifle your next breath, you round the corner for a sense of privacy and breathe in deep through your nose.
Drunk. That’s all Isabel is — babbling and silly and drunk.
“Maybe pull your hair out of your face if you’re going to puke.”
Shit, did he—
Craning your chin over your shoulder, your worst nightmare is confirmed: Levi Ackerman stands a mere few feet from where you’ve hidden yourself, facial expression dripping with annoyance.
His arms cross over his chest once your eyes connect.
“I’m not doing it for you,” he adds when you say nothing.
The nausea dissolves in an instant, leaving you with a very heavy weight on your shoulders.
“I’m fine.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I just…”
Unable to find the right words to explain yourself, you twirl and smack into the cobblestone wall. Inch by inch you drop in height, dragging down its cold surface until you’re seated on the ground. Levi’s brows fly high, but he doesn’t move.
“This is all really surreal right now.”
Levi bites. “In what way?”
“As in I never thought I’d make it to my tenth birthday, much less my eighteenth birthday, and here we are celebrating it. No one in our house actually knows it’s a real accomplishment,” you admit in the haze of the liquor. “Everyone is happy to have us, and I’m happy to have us, but I feel this… this butterfly anxiety in my stomach every time someone says 'to many more years' like we have guaranteed years and it’s—”
The sound of his boots gently tap closer until something presses against your arm. When you lull your head to look in the direction of the sound, it’s Levi sitting beside you.
In the dirt.
A beat passes.
“You’re gonna get dirty,” you mumble.
“Don’t remind me.”
Drawing your knees to your chest, the two of you sit in silence for what feels like an hour.
You can’t pretend to know what’s going through his head — if he heard an ounce of what Isabel said, if he can hear your heart beating wildly in your chest, if he even understands the gravity of what he did.
What he’s done through these last few years.
“Why did you do it?”
The question is barely audible, but you feel Levi shift to watch you.
Head bowed to your knees, you catch your wrist between your thumb and finger and squeeze.
“Do what?”
“You gave me a second chance, Levi.”
“I didn’t.”
“You did,” you argue firmly, “and I never understood why. I’m glad you did, because I thought— I didn’t even see myself ever getting out of that hell, but it—”
“James.” You quiet at the soft snip of your name. “Don’t spiral. It’s the alcohol talking.”
“It’s me talking, Levi,” you argue firmly. “We always skirt around this shit. We… fight it out or whatever so we never have to bring it up. Someone has to finally say something.”
“If I give you your present early, then will you knock it off?”
You perk, chin lifting from its perch on your arm to stare at the other boy like he’s grown a second head.
He scowls, hand buried deep in his trouser pocket.
“My what?” you softly ask, and for the first time, Levi deflates.
At first it’s physical: inch by inch his body lessens its typical intensity, from shoulders to chest, arms to legs. He slumps beside you, head bowed with cascading black bangs covering his eyes.
He continues to fish around in his pocket before producing his open palm to you.
In the center lay an unassuming box, brown and thin, without labels or bows.
“Your present,” he reiterates like it’s painful.
“You got me a…”
“It’s your birthday.”
“I know it is, but you didn’t have to—”
When your eyes connect, you see it: the nerves that settle in his eyes, at the corners of his lips, as he waits with this damn box in his hand.
“What?” he asks, flat.
The walls start to build brick by cautious brick.
The window of vulnerability is closing.
Abruptly you lean forward, grabbing his hand to keep him from retreating.
Levi sways with the sudden movement, breath hitching at the way your other hand closes on top of your joined hands, trapping it.
“Don’t.”
Don’t run, is what you want to say.
Don’t hide, when you know it’s what he wants to do.
Levi stills at your command, and you slowly slip the box from his palm.
“What is it?”
“Isn’t the point of a shitty gift to open it as a surprise?” he rhetorically snaps, throat bobbing with a swallow.
Eventually you loosen your grip and free his hand. He draws it back into his lap before his hand can touch the dirt below.
You sit straighter, mindful of the way you remove the lid of the rectangular container.
Fragile, because you have no idea what Levi could possibly—
“Oh.”
Silver.
Dainty and small but more beautiful than anything you’ve ever witnessed in the Underground, you stare slack-jawed at the silver necklace nestled in a blanket of tissue paper.
Even in the forever night of the city, the jewelry gleams — and at its sloped apex sits a gemstone, smokey and small —
“If you hate it—”
“Hate it?” you interrupt in a gasped bark, stunned Levi would suggest anything of the sort.
For once, emotion shows: his eyes widen, lips parted with an apology he cannot find as you rip the necklace out of the box to hold it to your chest in a balled fist.
“How could I hate it?”
“I didn’t know if you liked silver,” he admits lamely, caught off guard.
“How the hell did you get this?”
“Bought it.”
Now it’s your turn to stare like a deer caught in a lantern’s light.
“I knocked the guy’s lights out after, so don’t look at me like I’m some fucking saint.”
He didn’t steal this.
With his own earnings, he bought this — for you?
“Why go through that trouble? This is… it has to be surface made, right?”
“A while back, you said you don’t own anything,” Levi explains, the tips of his ears turning a shade of pink. He reaches to smooth rogue baby hairs away from his face and settles his elbow on a raised knee. “Nothing proper, anyway. Now you do.”
You don’t own anything.
He’s right. You hold the necklace like stardust in the palm of your hand, studying every centimeter of its gleam.
It’s such a thoughtful idea, such a beautiful gift, that your throat closes up with budding emotion.
All of this trouble — for you.
“I might cry,” you tease, but it isn’t entirely untrue.
Levi groans like he saw that inconvenience coming.
“For fuck’s sake, do not cry.”
Then something otherworldly happens.
You both stare at the other and smile.
Although his is microscopic, it’s there: upturned corners and a crinkle in his eye, face exposed with his hair out of the way. You bite your lower lip to avoid grinning too hard, enamored with the sight before you.
The party feels so far away when Levi’s looking at you like this.
All you hear — all you see — is him.
“I might need help,” you murmur, pinching the chain between your thumb and index finger to hold out the small piece of jewelry to him.
“You think I know how these things work?”
“You’re smart. Figure it out, Ackerman.”
You hold your hair higher and turn your back to him, mimicking the things you’ve seen women do in the illustrated books Isabel’s smuggled from the surface people.
It feels right, especially when his fingertips brush along the slope of your neck.
Before you can stop yourself, a small gasp bursts from your lips. Levi either doesn’t hear or ignore it, because he’s reaching around to lay the necklace lightly on your collarbone without comment.
His fingers continue to touch the nape of your neck, careful not to pinch or scratch.
(To think hands like his can be soft.)
“That okay?” he asks behind you, his hot breath peppering your skin.
You glance down at your chest, touching the tiny gemstone with adoration.
“Perfect,” you say.
It really is.
(And it's yours. It's all yours.)
When you turn your chin to look at him, you don’t expect the proximity of his face — Levi’s nose is so close that you can see the gentle faded freckles that would have thrived with the sun.
He doesn’t slink away, doesn’t move a muscle, and you’re trapped staring at his mouth expecting an insult, a name, anything.
Nothing comes.
Instead you both remain here in the heat of two beating hearts, too afraid to run.
(Too afraid to ruin.)
Furlan said you two go way back.
“We should go inside.”
Levi, albeit strained, murmurs between you. His breath tickles your lips.
The silver around your neck shifts when your head gently shakes.
“It’s too crowded in there,” you argue without much fire.
From this angle, you can’t see his eyes. He’s too busy staring down at your mouth.
“It’s cold.”
“I’m not cold,” you tell him honestly.
“No?”
“Not even a little bit.”
“Must be the alcohol,” he surmises.
“It isn’t.” You’ve never been so serious in your life. “I feel sober now. Just…”
“Just what?” he asks a little too quickly.
You miss his gaze a second too late — when his eyes raise, yours drop to his lips.
His boots become one with the ground beneath you, stuck in place. You swear you hear his breath grow heavier, contemplative, and you know — know that you’re about to do that one stupid thing you’ve thought about for years.
“Tell me."
He whispers, and it shatters the glass barrier between you.
You bridge the gap and press your lips softly to his.
Levi's stiff as a board, as if his brain realizes what you've done before his body has. Eventually his chin dips forward, his lips fluttering across yours as he finds his breath.
Then he moves like a starving man that’s found his oasis.
His knee knocks into yours when he pushes, deepening his mouth’s position on yours. You fumble backwards, shoulder blades hitting the wall with a gasp. Both of your limbs fumble to grab the other’s face first, but his reflexes outshine yours.
Slow and deliberate, experimenting with the sensation, Levi kisses you. He kisses you.
You match his exploration, trembling with your hand curled around the back of his neck. He inhales sharply when your nails scratch gently against his skin, causing him to push against you more.
Like he’s drowning.
Like he doesn’t care if he ever breathes again.
Your body burns when his left hand drops from your cheek to lightly run along the gemstone at the cusp of that glittering silver necklace.
You gasp for air as your noses knock together, both silently eager to find a rhythm you can both sing to. A whimper escapes your throat when something wet runs along your lower lip. His hot breath mingles with your tongue, the sensation shooting straight to your lower belly.
Then Levi pulls away like he’s somehow hurt you, gray eyes wide and — scared.
Fearful, like he’s crossed a line.
Delirious from the high, you shake your head and run your hand through the buzzed undercut at the nape of his neck. “I wanna keep doing that.”
As if his eyes could get any wider.
Levi looks wrecked. He opens his mouth to say something, as if to find any good reason to dispute your request but closes it.
He simply nods.
Inching forward, Levi captures your lips with a tenderness you’ve never considered he could possess. He’s careful, caging your head in with both of his hands now and thumbs lazily stroking your cheeks.
You hate that you must taste like the very thing he despises.
Except Levi groans, body shuddering, and when he shifts you feel something hard against your hip. It’s fleeting, but it snaps your eyes open in surprise.
Levi’s eyes are squeezed shut. Focused.
(He doesn’t even look this determined when he’s flying around on stolen ODM gear.)
You sigh when he presses further into you, eliminating the space between, and kiss back with feverish intent. Levi drops a hand to steady your hip — whether to keep you still or to keep himself from suffocating you, you’re not sure.
Then your tongues accidentally touch again, and you can’t help but moan. “Levi.”
He grits his teeth, pulling away. “Don’t say it like that.”
Your heart seizes with uncertainty. “Say what?”
He must be in pain. His eyes are screwed shut. Then he shifts again, gliding his thigh between yours, and you know now.
Levi Ackerman is rock hard, fighting every demon in his body.
“My name,” he croaks, finally opening his eyes. His pupils are practically blown black.
“But I like your name,” you reason innocently, and he drops his forehead onto your shoulder.
“Fucking shit…” He must feel you expand your lungs to ask a question, because he stops you before you can start. “I’m fine. Just… give me a second.”
“I’m sorry,” you murmur, hand still buried in his hair.
His head instantly picks up, searching for your face. Studying. “For what?”
“That.” His brows move a microscopic fraction higher. “If you didn’t… I mean, I haven’t…”
“I haven’t either,” he confesses without ever explaining what he means.
Now it’s your turn to widen your stare.
Your first kiss was his first kiss, too.
Something giddy floods your system. Something stronger than any hard liquor can conjure.
“Do you regret it?” he asks under a murmur.
You adamantly shake your head. “Do you?”
It takes a breath, but he shakes his head back.
Your mouth burst into a bright smile, high on the adrenaline of the point of no return you’ve both crossed in the midnight.
Cheeks tinged with a pink hue, all Levi can do is stare — then he chuckles, breathless and bewildered.
His hand drops to take yours, tugging the both away from the wall. You follow with little resistance, squeezing his palm.
You both linger in the dark for a second longer.
Then he lets go, taking the lead back to the apartment.
You follow.
(Door, now and forever, unlocked.)

I watched your 'Dualities' animatic, which is AMAZING,but I just wanted to ask,are Sun and Moon kind of jealous or fighting over one another over Tari?Because Sun blocked Moon out when they were hugging them,so I wasn't sure.
Aaaa so glad you enjoyed it!
As for why Sun and Moon were beefing, it wasn’t jealously or fighting for attention, what had happened before was that Moon was being a jerk again, earlier and mid way into their friendship, it was common for Moon to jump from being friendly to suddenly being rude and unmanageable and hurtful
Moon did this out of fear, afraid that it was all a ploy or that she would leave one day so it was better to remain detached and push her away (even if he kept going back to her not long after) as well as a fear of hurting her if he somehow lost control like when he was infected by the virus. What we showed in “Dualities” was another situation like this and the aftermath
Moon was pouting in the mindscape while listening in, Tari was explaining her frustrations to Sun, how she felt she was doing something wrong and she didn’t know what to do to make him finally see she meant well. During this Moon has flashes of things he did while under the influence of the virus, the fear of hurting someone (Tari especially) coming in full force
When Tari hugs Sun, Moon feels it and it helps him snap out of his spiraling episode, pushing through the wall to pull her closer using Suns hand, Sun blocks him because his thought process is “you caused this, you don’t get to enjoy this until you fix it yourself”, it was his way of telling Moon to fix his own messes from now on
Moons distress at being blocked comes first from losing the comforting sensation to then freaking out because it’s the moment that he finally realizes that he’s in love with Tari
If you pull up the lyrics, you’ll probably be able to see some more of the meaning of the animatic, we really loved the song and used it because we wanted to show the moment of when they realized their feelings and also all the yearning and emotional turmoil for not just Sun and Moon but Tari as well
Ah sorry for the mega long answer but I hope it helped ✨😭 I just really love going into the details of it

Run, little rabbit..

Human! Alastor x Fem!Reader
18+ ONLY!!
Summary- You ran through the forest, away from the man you thought you once knew. He was a monster, you'd realized, and you were a silly little rabbit caught in his trap.
Word Count- 2,187
Trigger Warnings- Some dubcon, Being chased, Alastor is a warning himself, Choking, Blood, mentions of killing, NSFW, fear, mentions of a weapon
AN- This one is.. A lil' different then some of the other stuff I've written but I do quite like how it turned out! I might write a part 2 to this one maybe but I haven't made up my mind yet!
Running. Right, that's what you were doing. You ran as fast as your legs could carry you through the forest that was only lit up by the bright moonlight above you. Your legs hurt, they screamed at you to ‘please just stop’ but you couldn’t. Unbeknownst to you, you had caught the eye of who you once thought to be a brilliant, charismatic man. But you learned quickly that that was a facade. A show he put on for those around him so they wouldn't be able to catch wind of his true intentions. Intentions which you now understood were deadly.
And so that’s how you found yourself here. You got too close, despite the fact that your friends had warned you about him. Too close, and being so close to a monster such as him you would most assuredly get hurt. But you’d decided before that you didn’t care; you’d had your heart broken before so what would it matter now? But no, you misunderstood them when they said you’d get hurt. They most definitely meant in a physical sense.
You could feel the bastard closing in on you now. You could hear his footsteps behind you, slowly advancing. Your heart was racing and you decided as a last ditch effort to hide behind a tall tree in the hopes that the man- the killer- would lose your trail and keep walking. But your hopes were immediately diminished when you heard his footsteps come to halt on the other side of the tree.
“Dearest,” he called out, “Shall we stop playing these games now?”
“Why can’t you just leave me be, you sick freak!?” You called out, back against the tree and your nails digging into the wood as if it would somehow save you from what you now knew was going to be your demise. Behind you, the man chuckled.
“Now now,” he said, “I’ve dirtied my hands for you on more than one occasion, what makes you think I’ll just leave and be on my way?”
You thought back to a few weeks ago when you found out your boss had been found dead in his home, his death unexplainable. He was an awful, awful man but you knew he didn’t deserve the fate he was dealt. And then, only a few nights ago, an ex-friend of yours who’d tried to turn you into the cops for dealing in the illegal sale of alcohol, found the same fate. Dead in her home, her murder almost exactly the same as the one your boss experienced. And when you put all the pieces together and learned just who had committed these crimes- you sought to escape the moment you were able and now, now you're here. Assuredly about to meet the same fate as the other two at the hands of the same man that killed them.
“Alastor,” you called out, “Please. If you’ll just leave me alone and let me go then, then I promise I’ll-” you heard the branches and dead leaves crack under his footsteps as he took a step closer and he chuckled.
“Mon cher, do you really think that I’m going to kill you like those others?” he put his hands on the tree trunk before him, knowing you were on the other side and scared out of your mind. And God, that fear only proved to turn him on more and make him crave you, “That is the very last thought on my mind. Do I want to see you suffer? Watch you struggle? Dearest, you have absolutely no idea what you do to me, do you~?”
“I don’t care! You’re a murderer! Alastor you.. You scare me!” you said to him. He was now grinning from ear to ear as he listened intently to what you had to say.
“Good,” he said, “I want you to be frightened. I want you to feel helpless and trapped; I want to get under your skin and make your heart race. That, my dearest, was truly my intention all along. Now, will you run again? Because this time if I catch you, and oh I most definitely will, I can’t promise you’ll get to leave this forest… Unscathed.”
And with that, you took off. Finally now being able to at least breathe a little easier, you ran through the forest as fast as you could. You knew he would follow you and continue to come after you but you figured that if you were able to maybe make it to any sort of road, or maybe if you could find a house or literally anything, anything, to help you get away from that.. That monster! You would keep running as long as you possibly could.
“Oh, my little rabbit,” Alastor called out, not far behind you, “Oh how fun this is! I truly haven't had this much fun in ages!” You could tell from his voice that he was running out of breath, maybe this meant he was also slowing down? But when you turned your head to look back, and oh what a mistake that was, you could see he was now directly behind you. And with the reach of his arms, he caught you.
You both fell at the abrupt and sudden stop, Alastor’s ax falling to the ground beside the two of you. You put up a struggle though; fighting your best to get free but he was much stronger than you and it took him no time to have you pinned to the ground beneath him. He had each of your wrists pinned on either side of your head, his grip on them strong enough it was sure to leave bruises.
“Bastard!” you screamed, wriggling beneath him as he straddled your waist. Your once fine clothes were now covered in mud and there were dead leaves in your hair, and somewhere along the way you'd lost one of your boots. Alastor, however, looked to be in the same pristine shape he always had, although his boots were now covered in mud.
“What a chase you gave me, my little rabbit,” he said as he pinned your wrists above your head and held them now with only a single hand. He grabbed his ax and positioned it directly beneath your throat, “Will you stop squirming now and stop with the ceaseless screaming?” You barred your teeth at him as you felt the cool edge of the weapon against your throat.
“Kill me then!” You spat at him, “Kill me now like you did the others!” He.. Laughed at you. A sick and twisted laugh that sent a chill up your spine.
“Didn’t I tell you already? I’m not going to kill you,” he pointed the edge of the ax a bit harder towards your throat, now drawing up just a tiny bit of blood that made him lick his lips, “I have.. Other plans for you, dearest.” You continued to fight the grip that he had on your wrists, trying everything you could think of to get free from him and ignoring the sharp pain that was now at your throat when you noticed.. This man on top of you had a hard on.
“You’re a sick bastard!” you said, “A fucking sicko! That's exactly what you are!” you screamed at him.
“I never said I wasn’t,” he said to you, leaning down close to whisper in your ear, “although… I don't recall that having been a problem a few nights ago when I fucked you senseless. Shall we have a second take now?”
“No!” you screamed, “If I had known then what you are.. I’d have never slept with you! Not in a million years!” He raised his head back up, laying the ax back down next to the two of you and tightened the grip he had on your wrists. With his now free hand, he placed it on your chest where he could feel your heart racing beneath your skin.
“My little rabbit, how your heart races..” he said, “Tell me, are you frightened?” You could feel tears beginning to swell up in the corners of your eyes, despite your best efforts to fight them off and refused to answer his question. He noticed this and smirked, now grabbing your throat with that same hand, your blood coating his fingers as he did so. He squeezed lightly, causing you to gasp.
“Wasn’t it just the other night that I held you this way?” he questioned, still squeezing, “And if I recall directly, you asked me to do so, didn’t you, mon cher? Begged me to choke this pretty little neck of yours so you could hardly take a breath. How does it feel now, knowing that you begged a serial killer to do that to you? And how easily I could have killed you right there if I wanted?” he laughed, “And if I remember correctly, you were absolutely soaked at the thrill.. Shall I have a look now to see if that pussy of yours is as drenched as it was then?”
“F-Fuck.. You..” you managed to gasp out as he continued to squeeze your neck. He let go, still grinning as you coughed. Although what he said was true and you did ask him to do that to you, that was.. Before.. Before all of this! When you thought he was someone different, a kind and charismatic man who-!
The feeling of a cold hand cupping your core puts an immediate stop to your thoughts. Your body jolted at the new feeling, going completely still. Alastor laughed- not chuckled, like he did before, but laughed like.. A madman.
“Naughty, naughty, little rabbit,” he said, “You’re even wetter now then you were then! That pussy of yours is absolutely soaking..” He brought his hand up and licked your juices off of his fingers. You turned your head so as not to look at him; you couldn’t do it anymore. Your body betrayed you, and though you’d never in a million years actually say it.. You were turned on. You were scared out of your mind but.. The thrill of this, of all of this, just did something to your body that you couldn't ignore.
“It means nothing!” you screamed at him as the tears fell down your cheeks, “And.. You mean nothing! Absolutely nothing to me!”
Alastor narrowed his gaze down at you, gently wiping the tears from your cheeks, “Oh my little rabbit, the things you do to me..” And he leaned down and kissed you. Your eyes widened at the shock of feeling his lips pressed against yours, the grip he had on your wrists unwavering, but the softness of his kiss surprised you. When he pulled away, he spoke once again.
“Why did you run?” he asked, “Did you truly think I was going to kill you? After all the things I did for you, and the positions I put myself in for you? You really, truly thought I planned to murder you?” You were surprised when you saw what you thought to be.. Hurt, in his eyes.
“Why wouldn’t you? You killed those close to me so it’s only right that I be next-”
“Close to you?” he questioned, squeezing your wrists harder, “I killed those awful bastards that hurt you. That treated you like garbage; I helped you.” Was he right? All along you thought he had just been murdering the ones who were close to you, one by one until he finally got to you.
“Then why.. Why chase me like this? Why not just explain?”
“Didn’t I tell you, little rabbit, what your fear does to me? That I want you to be frightened. I want to watch you struggle and suffer, but only under my hands. I want to hurt you and make you scream.. But if anyone else did that or even so much as tried to, then they, too, would feel the edge of my blade.” You were stunned silent at his words, at what he had just admitted to you. How were you supposed to feel about this? It’s true that you were scared of him, but you were also (and evidently so) turned on by.. This.
“That doesn’t make you any less of a monster,” you said to him, “But maybe that means I am just as messed up in the head if I actually believe what you’re saying.”
“Then tell me, my dear, shall I take you home then where I can fuck you senseless?” he asked as he put his hand on your cheek, “Or..” he continued, moving his hand back down to your bloodied throat and lightly squeezing, “Shall I fuck you right here? Does the thought of being forced to take my cock in the middle of nowhere where nobody can hear your screams turn you on, dearest?” You went silent and stilled, not knowing how to respond to his.. Question.
“Then, shall I choose for you?” his grin lit up as he squeezed your throat harder, “I’ll make you wish you had used your words, my little rabbit.”

You don’t deserve mercy.
Tumblr media
quaritch vs na’vi reader
After months of grieving your loved one, Neteyam, you hear gun shots. You found out spider saved his father. You make sure that he’s dead this time.
I love violence.
I have no beef for spider, he’s a good kid.
⚠️Warning ⚠️
Graphic descriptions of death, cursing, blood, the anger of losing someone, murder, and normalize women being pissed angry, violent angry. I felt like I could’ve gotten way more graphic, but for the sake of not wanting to get in trouble, I mellowed it down.
Tumblr media
“I will bite your ear off and feed it to my ikran!” You bared your teeth, your four canines sharp and long, blood covering them as one of the ski people busted your lip before hand. Quaritch just laughs in your face.
Your anger amused him. Mostly because he knew he was going to die. It was a laughter of disappointment and rage, he was going to die, and he only got to kill one of the sullies. How pathetic of himself.
“Don’t bother having conversation with me, either kill me or get killed, we got this island surrounded with avat-ar!” Your red eyes widen, 3 sharp nails digging their way into the skin of the old man’s neck, breaking the skin.
You were strong, stronger than the na’vis they fought. You were a freak of nature, a hybrid as your mother was from the clan of ashes, father from the Omatikaya clan.
He’s read about your kind, your mother, a leader before she married outside her clan. Your anatomy was different from the rest, made you tough, but not invincible .
At this moment you were thousands of feet in the air, above the deep water it took months for you to learn. Your ikran was stable and your arrow deep inside the gut of the person who killed your Neteyam. “Do not hesitate Y/N, kill him before he kills someone else!”
Jake watches from afar, feet planted on his skimwing and emptied gun gripped in his hand.
You’re growled at this, causing another choked laugh to leave the avatars mouth. “Don’t bother.”
“Uh!-“ you gasped. The sound was brutal, the noise of the knife digging into your gut. You breath hitched, suddenly being able to taste, and smell your blood so clearly.
Tears prickling your eyes as you felt the army knife shift in your stomach. He didn’t take the arrow to his stomach lightly you suppose. Your ikran screeched, the connection between the two of you strong. She starts losing her balance, the knife you took causing her to feel it. The knife only went deeper from the movement.
How could you be so stupid? So naive to think it would be an easy job. “Weak. Just like that poor son of a bitch that came from that tree monkey down in the ocean.”
“Y/N!” Jake screamed through your ear piece as he watched your legs buckle, but never completely giving.
You would never kneel below this colonizing creature.
Quaritch heard it Crystal clear, having stole Neytiris ear piece awile ago.
“I will not die here. I will not die by the hands… of some foul demon who wants to live like us. To breathe- our air. I won’t!” You clinched your teeth, knees weak as you gripped the knife that pierced your large intestines. With a scowl, the man watched as you slowly remove the knife.
It wasn’t the size as a normal knife, no, it was bigger, meant to fit the hands of an army veteran that changed species.
Disgust on his face, he hissed, but your hand was still tight on his neck, never wavering, only getting tighter. His neck bled from the holes you made.
You stared deep into his eyes, his face close to yours, he could feel your chess grumble with a growl as the knife left you. “You can’t be that stupid kid. You’ll bleed out before you could do anything.”
“Don’t underestimate a true na’vi, demon. I am not weak. And neither was Neteyam.” Before he could even struggle to get out of your grip, you slammed him against your Ikrans back, this made her screech in complaint, her wings loosing control from the connection of your queue. she could feel everything you felt.
“If I die, Eywa will reunite me with my Neteyam. You, will go to hell, burning like the demon you are.” You hissed in his face, large blue foot pushing the arrow into his stomach more, causing him to scream.
“I will cause you to suffer.” You growled through your teeth, bloodied hands tying your rope from the end of the arrow, then forcing him to turn to his side. You grunted in pain. “Fat fuck, heavy- like the chains that will be dragging your down to your fate.” You clinched your teeth, ignoring the screams from the weak man below you as you pushed the arrow through him, until it exited his back.
“AHH- you- bITCH!” He yelled in a foreign language, assuming it was English, you scoffed. “You see us as the villain. I will kill you as such. Right in front of your traitor son who left you alive!” This caused his smaller eyes to widen, but you already tied the rope at the start of the arrow.
“Y/N- where are you- are you okay?!” Lo’ak spoke through his ear piece, out of breath. “Lo’ak! Where are you?!” Jake was quick to respond back, gun now in the ocean as he road his skimwing as fast as he could to the shore. “With mom-“
“Take her to Ronal and quickly get to y/n, she’s been stabbed!” “What?!” They yelled in your ear, but you were only focused on one thing. Revenge.
“She-ri!” You gripped onto your ikran, sending her to go above the beach, the same one you and the sullies arrived on.
You will drop him, the rope held tight in your ikrans jaws. You will rip him to shreds, the arrow more than strong enough to hold his weight, to almost rip him in half, before ending his demise.
“Just-just kill me- don’t have to- to scare the boy like that- please!” He begged, grunting from the uneven flight path She-ri flew. Poor girl was in pain, she didn’t deserve to suffer when you did.
It would be over soon.
Grabbing the old man by his braid, making his seize up in pain.
You grit your teeth, blood leaking down your stomach, soaking your loincloth as you lifted him up.
“See him demon? How confused he is, looking for his so called family, looking for you.” You whispered in his ear, red eyes glaring down at the human as he looked around the beach, not knowing where to go, what to do.
“Don’t-do this.” His voice cracked, but you didn’t care, anger, rage and pain going through you.
“You cannot protect him now. This is for the sullys. For- my love.” Tears went down your cheeks as you remembered the last breath he took, the last time his heart beat.
He was gone. And now his killer is as well.
The knife that was covered in your blood, tight in your hold. “You don’t deserve mercy.”
“Guys?! Guys?!” Spider looks around frantically, ear piece smashed yet he still tried to get some kind of connection.
Thump!
Woosh Woosh Woosh…
The human flinched from the sound, head whipping back, only to see something he wished he didn’t. Spider looks up, eyes following the loud noise of the ikran wings. The one who dropped the vet off. But it was already gone in the distance, with no one on its back as it looked for its next victim.
“Sir?…” He called out, but he knew there wasn’t any use, there wasn’t any point in calling out to the man that didn’t raise him. He could see the arrow was ripped throughout his back, the rope bloodied. But he was still his father.
“Hey… Sir!” He yelled out, naked feet hitting the hot sand as he ran to the man.
Spider grunts as he turns the sky person over, only to see a knife through his head.

LISA YOU DID NOT GIVE ME TIME TO PREPARE FOR THIS!!! However, I already had a few ideas in mind for the next time you opened requests, so:
May I pretty please request a Thorin Oakenshield + gender-neutral reader where the reader is a fairy who comes along on the journey to Erabor because Gandalf thought they needed another magic-user? Reader is a very sweet sunshine who gets along great with all the other party members, but because Thorin doesn’t trust fairies the same way he doesn’t trust elves (because they didn’t assist the dwarves after Erabor fell the first time) he refuses to let them get close to him. However, he does start to get closer to them and develop feelings for them as time goes on, but after the Battle of the Five Armies (where everyone lives, obviously) they can’t find the reader for a while and Thorin is terrified they might be dead. And when they finally find them relatively unharmed Thorin freaks out and confesses his love because he doesn’t want to lose them, and then there’s a very nice fluffy ending??
Of course, if you don’t want to write this, that’s totally cool!! Thanks and I hope you’re doing well!! <3 <3
YESSSS i am ascending to a higher plane thank you for this SUBLIME request

The water is wide, the mountains high; no journey worth taking was ever meant to be easy, so you may assume from the first few treacherous days of your travels towards the Lonely Mountain that this quest of yours will be quite worthy indeed. It is not in your nature to spend much time musing on the unhappiness of a time, only to find its merits, but, well, there are far more sources of unhappiness than happiness on this particular journey.
It would not be too much of a leap for even your optimism to be brought down a notch or two, to say the least. Already, your smiles are lacking a little at the seams; your jokes, not among your finest work.  Patience is stretched thin amongst the company, and the shadow of Erebor is no closer to the tips of your boots than the Shire far behind you.
The Shire was not your home, though, only the starting point. The last member of the company was Bilbo Baggins, your burglar, and he took quite a bit of convincing before he was willing to set a single foot beyond the familiar confines of his home. You’re not sure he was wrong to question the idea of the quest, though, nor if he regrets it already or not. Danger dogs your heels like a bloodhound, plus the rest of the company is nothing like any of the hobbits Bilbo has ever met.
Bilbo Baggins would not be the only one confused by his company, however. As a faerie, you’ve had the opportunity to travel far past the bounds of your city, to meet characters both kind and cruel. The Fae cluster in settlements like elves, but they disperse themselves to the winds, too. Most of you end up tossed to the whims of Fate soon enough, anyway. This was your chance to get to know the world you inhabit, and it appears you’ll get far more of a tasting of it than you ever expected.
It’s not terrible. That should go without saying. You are not unhappy that you are here, nor bitter that you signed the contract to join the company of Thorin Oakenshield when you could have stayed at home to rot. It is a good cause, this, and it will bring you both glory and treasure, should you want it.
The biggest problem, if you were going to be completely honest with yourself, would be that dwarf tasked with managing all of you, Thorin. You get along splendidly with all of the other dwarves, and Gandalf has been a friend of yours ever since you wowed him with a particularly ingenious magic trick when you were small, but for some reason you have never been able to win over Thorin himself.
That is not for lack of trying, not in the slightest. Gandalf was the one who requested that you join the company, certain that having another magic user on their side would not be the worst thing in the world as you passed through dangerous territory and had to take on a dragon later on. You showed up to meet the company with the best and purest of intentions, but Thorin seemed unable to accept the fact that you really wanted to help.
In truth, you don’t think he wanted to accept it. Thorin is displeased with the faeries the same way he’ll never forgive the elves, for the same reasons he’ll glare icily at humans. When Thorin’s kin fell along with Erebor, the faeries didn’t help. Thorin begged for aid, but the faeries did not respond. You’ll never fully know why, nor were you personally responsible for the betrayal, but that does not stop Thorin from treating as if you were the linchpin keeping support from his people.
It doesn’t matter, though. It doesn’t have to matter. Thorin’s personal feelings are not why you signed onto this quest. You joined because an old friend asked, and because the idea of helping to liberate the dwarves’ homeland from a dragon seemed like a good thing to do and a fascinating way to pass the time. Faeries don’t take things seriously. They never have.
So, you let your caution with Thorin fly away from you on an eagle’s strong wings, and you throw yourself into helping whenever you can. Gandalf is pulled away from the company soon enough for a myriad of causes, and even Thorin can admit that your magical skills come in handy soon enough. You save all of their lives dozens of times over, and you find real friendship in the company while you’re at it. Nothing a little optimism can’t handle.
Some of the nights get long, though, and the warmth of a covert campfire can only keep your tired frame from shivering for so many hours. They say the bones of the Fae are hewn from diamonds, your blood, the eternal nectar of the gods, but at this moment, you want only the mysticism and riches of a good meal and clothes that actually protect you against the chill. The mountains only get colder as you travel through them, and you don’t think you’ll be able to shake the prick of gooseflesh for decades if not centuries.
You’re on watch at the moment, scanning the dark horizon around you for monsters or orcs while the rest of the company rests. You’ll have another hour or two before you have to wake the next guardian– Bilbo, actually, who’s still snoring with the rest– so you should have plenty of time to yourself until then.
You should, at least. You don’t, because someone here is still awake. You had cast a spell on yourself to amplify sound and sight at the start of your watch so you could spot intruders that much more quickly, which is why you’re aware of one heartbeat other than your own that isn’t in the lull of sleep. When you tilt your head to the side just enough, you can make out someone staring in your peripheral vision.
Thorin. Who else? At first, you feel a rush of indignation bubble through your veins. There’s no reason for him to be awake on a night like this. Everyone is exhausted from weeks of hard travel, but he’s forced himself to forgo rest so he can make sure you are actually doing your job. After all this time, he still doesn’t trust you to do watch properly. It’s infuriating.
Sick of pretending like you don’t notice, you turn abruptly to stare him dead in the eyes. You expect Thorin to do something:  address you, maybe, or do something to acknowledge that he’s been caught, but instead he just holds your gaze coolly for a moment longer before turning on his other side. Half an hour later, he’s asleep.
Heroes. You’ll never understand them. The Fae are not the stuff of legends; your people prefer to linger in shadows and sunlight both, existing for themselves and for the glory of magic. Heroes, quest-leaders, warriors, they were never someone you grew up with. They have different motives, ones you don’t understand. They think they need to watch your back just because it’s the right thing to do. It confuses you, makes you believe things that might not be true. You don’t need someone like Thorin messing with your head right now, but he seems perfectly content to do it anyway.
The rest of the night passes without issue. You finish your watch shift without anything impactful, and rouse a deeply annoyed Bilbo to take over after you. Thorin doesn’t trouble you again, and indeed, the next day he seems perfectly content to act as if nothing had ever happened.
No self-respecting faerie would ever let themselves drop a grudge, though, so you manufacture a way of bringing it up before long. The company disperses in a long line, the slower ones trailing behind while Thorin keeps up the charge at the front. You make your way up to him, waiting until everyone else behind you is sufficiently far away so as to not hear a word of the inevitable quarrel, then cast Thorin one sidelong glance.
“Would you like to tell me why you’ve been watching me?”
Thorin actually stumbles while he’s walking, but manages to right himself just in time. “I haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about.”
You weren’t expecting him to outright deny it. This past night hasn’t been the only time you’ve caught his eyes on you. It has happened from the very start of the quest, actually. At first, his gaze was pinned to you like a wanted poster, full of judgment and suspicion. Recently, the hostility has gone down, but that doesn’t make him any less willing to look away. His gaze chases your heels as you clamber over rocks, lingers on your fingers as you fight. All this, and he still wants to act as if nothing has happened.
You scoff. “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Let’s discuss last night, then. You keep staying awake during my watch. Why? Do you really trust me that little?”
Thorin shakes his head, keeping his gaze firmly trained on the horizon. “I do trust you.”
This does actually come as a surprise. He hasn’t been able to admit it aloud, likely because that would contradict his whole idea that faeries are selfish creatures who left his people to die in the fall of Erebor, but apparently he’s made an exception for you.
“Then why not let me conduct my watch in peace?” You pry.
Thorin jerks a shoulder up and down once, a taut and tense version of a shrug. “I don’t want any lapse in judgment to injure the people I care about.”
You feel your relatively good mood drop. Thorin lashes out often, most frequently when he’s sure he’s only leading his company towards their imminent destruction, so you shouldn’t take it personally. Kind of hard not to, though.
“So you think I’m blind to attackers and I’ll get everyone killed, is that what you’re saying?”
“No, I’m just worried that there are things out there worse than one of your spells,” Thorin argues, but he doesn’t sound too convincing anymore.
You shove your hands into the pockets on your coat. “You know, I just don’t get it. If you’re this opposed to faeries, why did you ever let Gandalf convince you to let me join your company?”
“I didn’t want to at the start,” Thorin begrudgingly admits, “but that was at the start, like I said. Things are different now.” He pauses, voice heavy with secrets as of yet left unsaid, then adds, “We’re different.”
You think this might be the most honest thing he’s ever shared with you. It makes you feel– a lot, actually. It makes you feel things you have not considered until now. Thorin does trust you and he does have reasons he wants to keep you around. In fact, he might even be counting you among the people he cares about and wants to protect.
You don’t have much time to think about it, not on the road and not even after you reach Erebor and immediately have to contend with an infuriated dragon. Thorin shows you the place after you have a moment of relative peace, pointing out the details his ancestors built into a home that has not been his in quite some time. It is as if he wants you to remember all of it. It is as if he wants it to be yours as well.
Peace does not last forever, it never does. One day, you’re exploring every room and corridor of Thorin’s home beneath the Lonely Mountain, the next, you’re watching army after army pour over the surrounding hills. No one likes power when it isn’t theirs. The thought that Thorin might finally have claim to his ancestral land wasn’t well favored by anyone in the vicinity, apparently.
That only means that you’ll have to fight twice as hard to keep Erebor in the hands of your friends. Even when the elves ride up to your doorstep with the humans, even when the orcs arrive out of nowhere, you stay and fight. Always. That’s what you do for the people you care about.
Thorin had asked once if you were going to leave. He’d posed the question slowly, hesitantly, eyes on any other object in the room except you, but you’d still had the perfect view of the relief on his face when you told him you would stay until it was done. There was still an open question of what you would do when it was over, but surviving a battle of this magnitude was the first crisis to deal with. Anything else could happen later, once everyone made it through alive.
That alone seemed like an impossible task, and by all accounts, it should have been. Never before in your life have you cast so many spells of such strength, saving the lives of your friends and ending those of your enemies all in turn. When it is over, you are covered in blood and ash, utterly exhausted, and injured, but your heart beats, at least, and that is enough.
You were separated from the rest of Thorin’s company during the progress of the battle, drawn out to find the best vantage point from which you could cast your spells. At first, you were going for long distance attacks, lobbing fireballs and extensive charges from a crumbling rooftop, but orcs quickly descended upon you and you were forced to resort to closer quarter magic instead.
Perhaps that is why they thought you were dead. When they could no longer see your spells from across the battlefield, there was no way to tell for sure if you were still alive. You were far away from them, fighting off the last of the enemy, and you didn’t find them for a while.
More specifically, they didn’t find you for a while. Later, you hear that Thorin had been in a sort of frantic haze, going over every rock and stone in his path in an all consuming quest to find you. You weren’t with Fili and Kili, who were immediately folded into the search party, nor were you alongside the other dwarfs. Bard had not seen you. Neither had some of the elves. By all accounts, you were gone. Vanished from sight.
That was the one thing Thorin wanted to hear the least. A body is something you can handle, a final decision. If he could not see you, he assumed you were either dead or about to be, and only his actions could save you. He would run himself ragged trying to find you and stop your death before it happened. He would have forced all the orcs in the land back to the fiery hellhole they came from, fought every monster and defeated every enemy, if it would have stopped a sword from piercing your heart.
And so, when he finally stumbled over a rocky outcropping and saw you calmly casting a spell of healing on one of his cousin’s soldiers. You had turned upon hearing him approach, and the last of Thorin’s terrors left him in one fell swoop. You were alright. He was alright. Everything, although damaged and broken and wholly consumed with ash and blood, would somehow end up okay.
Not much was said. Both of you lacked the words. Too many friends had been lost, not enough saved. Erebor would be protected, though. You swore that oath at the start, back when you joined the company for the first time, and you promise it again now. The Fae will have to wait a little longer to welcome you back. You would like to stick around a for a while.

"I'll understand if you want to go with Eddie." Steve said, keeping his gaze on the road in a way that meant he 100% wanted her to stay with him.
"How're your bites?" Y/N asked, casually deflecting the conversation. He had finally been able to put on a shirt and get some shoes, but Y/N knew that there was still a lot of blood underneath. Blood she had wanted to clean, to take care of his wounds, but there just hadn't been time.
Also, Steve hadn't allowed her to even look at them.
"Oh, just great. Ya know, I wanted to lose weight anyway." Steve joked, but Y/N didn't think it was funny that the demobats had literally ate at his flesh.
"We should go to the hospital." She said for the billionth time. She'd been trying to get Steve to go to the hospital ever since they got back.
"Y/N," Steve sighed and didn't finish his sentence, lifting one of his hands off the wheel to rub his forehead. He didn't have time to go to the hospital. Max was going to die, and if Max died then a lot of other people were also going to die and Steve wasn't going to waste precious time sitting in the ER for a couple stitches.
"I'm serious, Steve!" She lowered her voice as Eddie and Dustin looked up, realizing the couple was fighting. "I know you want to be the hero, but for once, can you please look after yourself?" She begged, sadness lacing her words as her throat constricted at all the memories of Steve being beat up. The newest one, the image of Steve being feasted on by bats, made her heart hurt every time she closed her eyes - it was as if the scene were painted onto her eyelids.
"Is that why you won't go with Eddie?" Steve asked, and Y/N let the silence draw out as her answer.
She would never admit that she wanted to go with Steve to stop him from sacrificing himself, but in that moment he knew that's exactly what she was thinking. Robin and Nancy were good friends, but Y/N was the only one who could stop him from giving his life on a whim - which scared him, because Steve, if he was honest, was the hero type. He took the beatings to keep his friends safe. From the moment that he was thrown into this mess, he knew that he would do anything to protect his friends from these creatures that just would not stop.
Unless, of course, Y/N was there with him. That may make him hesitate - or it may make him more reckless. It would throw off his game, make him second guess moves just to keep her extra safe, because if she died and he didn't he would never forgive himself.
However, he knew of one other person who felt the same way about Y/N - just without the romantic part. Steve knew that her idiot best friend, Eddie Munson, would protect her and Dustin, no matter what the 'freak' claimed. And when it came to Y/N, Steve was selfish. He needed her safe.
"You're going with Eddie." Steve repeated, but this time, it wasn't a suggestion or a question. It was final. And although just a minute ago he wanted her to go with him, they had both realized that she would see right through him if he was going to sacrifice himself.
"Uh, no." Y/N scoffed, not realizing she was getting louder. "I will go with whoever I chose." She crossed her arms, fire filling her head. How dare Steve think he could make that choice for her.
"You're going with Eddie or you're babysitting Erica. Those are your two options." Steve said as he pulled over in a field.
"Hey!" Erica yelled from the back, only hearing the last part of their conversation. At this point, everyone was shamelessly listening.
"You are not my keeper, Steve." Y/N was practically seething at this point. She was angry that Steve didn't want her to tag along, especially if it was the end of the world. She stood up, knowing that if she stayed in the van any longer she would probably begin to cry tears of frustration, and that was the last thing she wanted.
"Y/N!" Steve called as she opened the door and walked out, glad that she was able to make it a couple steps before the tears started really falling. They weren't all the way up the hill, so she trudged the rest of the way to sit at the top with her back facing the van. They could leave and she would only be able to turn and watch.
She sat there for awhile, letting her tears flow. Part of her liked this, being alone, but part of her wanted to be with Steve. Chances were, someone is gonna die, and even in the unlikely event no one does, they could still fail and the world could end. She heard footsteps, and she wiped her tears, not knowing who was coming up on her.
"Y/N," At Max's voice, Y/N instantly felt regret creep up her spine. Here she was, crying on a hill, when Max had one foot in the grave. "Can I sit here?" Max stood next to her, and she nodded, watching the younger girl take a seat.
"How're you holding up?" Y/N asked, trying to keep her voice from cracking.
"As good as you can expect when an evil demon is trying to take over your brain and kill you." Max shrugged with a light smile, and Y/N's heart tugged. Max was so young, she didn't deserve this.
"So, great, I'd imagine." Y/N joked, smiling when Max let out a small chuckle.
"Listen, I-I didn't want to say anything in the van, but," Max began picking the grass, not looking at Y/N. "I want you to come with Lucas and I to the house." Max finally looked up, and Y/N's heart completely broke. She looked scared out of her mind, and Y/N swore that if she somehow ever found Vecna herself, he wouldn't be making it much longer than a couple minutes.
"Max," Y/N wanted to reach out, but with Max's arms around her knees it was hard to figure out a good place.
"Steve didn't send me to ask, if that's what you're thinking." Max quickly rushed out, and Y/N gave a sad smile. Steve wouldn't send anyone to talk to her for him, he'd do it himself. "I just, I want someone there, who knows what they're doing." Max looked up at Y/N, who had furrowed brows. Why did Max think Y/N knew what she was doing?
"I'm not sure I follow," Y/N led off, voicing her thoughts.
"Well, you can drive us to the house, which will help. And Lucas is great, and I want him there still. But I need someone else there, someone to comfort me when I come out, someone who will stay calm." Max looked away before taking a deep breath. "And if I don't make it, I want someone there to comfort Lucas - not just his sister."
"Max," This time, Y/N felt dread as well as sadness flood through her. She remembered what it was like to be Max's age - she had a huge crush on Steve, but she obviously couldn't tell her best friend Eddie, who would have never approved at the time. Eddie wouldn't find out about her crush until three years later, when she let it slip that she had made out with Steve at Melissa's party. And even though Eddie didn't approve and he wasn't pleased, he let Y/N and Steve have their fun, ready to pick up the pieces if it ever failed.
There were some nights when Eddie was sure they were over, some nights when he thought about going to Steve's house and smashing a glass over his head to try and make him understand that Y/N wasn't the kind of girl you played with. But nevertheless, Y/N and Steve were still together, her and Eddie were still best friends, and Eddie had never hurt Steve (even if he had thought about it multiple times).
But that was the biggest thing she had to deal with. And now - now the biggest thing should have been college. She should be across the country right now at a nice university. But she couldn't leave Steve and Eddie, especially after they found out what was going on in Hawkins.
"Of course I will be there for you." Y/N scooted closer and put a comforting hand on Max's shoulder. "I will be there for you every time you ask me, whether it's something like this or if it's because you can't find a tampon and you don't want to bike to the store." She smiled when Max grinned, looking up and leaning closer. "Hell, after all this, you can move in with Steve and I." Y/N felt her hurt burst at Max's face.
"Really?" Max asked, half joking and half being serious.
"Yeah, totally." Y/N turned, finally looking at the group. Most of them were behind the van, obscured from view, but Steve was on the edge of everything, arms crossed and body faced so that he could keep an eye on Y/N and Max as well as the rest of the group. Y/N felt her heart float as she looked at the man, letting her hand drop as Max turned.
"What do you think Steve will say?" Max asked, a small smile on her face as she thought about living with the people who had filled in for her in the way her family never had.
"Oh, he'll agree." Y/N nodded, watching Steve turn and look at them even if he couldn't hear them. "We just need to convince him."
~
"I'm a little mad you're not coming with me." Eddie said, all geared up. They were about to leave, just saying their final goodbyes.
"If I went into the Upside Down, how could Steve be the hero?" Y/N joked, trying to take the edge off of their somber goodbye.
"Yeah," Eddie chuckled, looking around as Lucas and Max said their goodbyes. "I guess I'll just have to play the hero. For Dustin, of course." He smiled, and Y/N tried to smile too. It was watery, and tears were quickly spilling out of her eyes, even though she wasn't blinking.
"Please don't try and be a hero, Eddie." Y/N whispered, looking up at her best friend. He sighed as he met her gaze, tears in his eyes that he would never shed. She knew she was being selfish, but she didn't care in that moment. If Eddie or Steve died while she was sitting around, she would never be able to forgive herself.
"Come on, Y/N. I've been running from things since 1966. Do you really think I'm gonna stop now?" He put his arm around her and pulled her into a hug, where she cried into his shoulder. "Besides, someone's gotta keep your boyfriend safe while he's doing the heroic shit." Y/N let out a little laugh, mostly just to make Eddie feel better. Her stomach was torn with sadness and dread, and she wanted to go back to a couple days ago when her, Eddie, and Steve had all gotten high. They weren't worrying about crazy demons then, and she didn't want to worry about crazy demons now. She wanted to go home.
"Promise me you'll come back." Y/N whispered, pulling away from the hug to look at him.
"Of course," Eddie squeezed her once more before looking over at Steve, who was staring at Y/N. "I think you should probably say goodbye to your boyfriend now." Y/N let go of Eddie and turned to see Steve, who gave her a small smile. Just the thought of losing Steve, of having to say goodbye to him, made Y/N cry even harder.
Steve must've seen when she thought about it, about the fact that they were really saying goodbye, and instantly rushed over to her, pulling her into his arms. He held her tightly, squeezing his own eyes shut in an attempt to stop the tears.
"It's not really a goodbye," He whispered to her, pressing a kiss to the side of her head so that he didn't have to remove her from his arms at all. "I'll see you in a couple hours." He sounded so sure, so calm, that it made Y/N breathe better.
"You better." She muttered out, pulling back only enough to be able to look at him.
"I'll even be able to hear you, in the Upside Down. I'll be keeping an eye out for you." He moved one hand to cup her face, the other staying put around her waist. She moved both of her hands to the sides of his neck, eyes welling with tears once more.
"But who's going to look out for you?" She whispered this part, speaking softly so that Nancy and Robin didn't hear. It's not like she didn't trust them to take care of Steve, but she knew that Steve would sneak himself to be in harms way before either of them even knew he was in danger. And by the time they figured it out, Steve could already be dead.
"I'm going to be fine, sweetheart." Steve was starting to choke up, so his voice was soft and high pitched as he moved the hand on her face to push her hair back. "Do you hear me? I'm going to come back to you." He didn't let her respond, instead kissing her like he would never see her again.
Because maybe it was the last kiss he would have, the last one he would share with her.
"I'm coming back." He whispered as he pulled apart. He knew his face was wet from her tears, because his tears were trapped. He wouldn't let her see him cry.
So, he gave her one more kiss, one last squeeze, one last 'I love you,' and then watched her turn around. She was taking his car to drive Lucas, Erica and Max to the mansion, and as she pulled out Steve wanted to tell her to stop, to go home so that she was safe.
She would never listen anyway.
~
Out of all the bad ideas they'd ever had, this was probably the worst. But, it was the only way to stop Vecna, the only way to save Hawkins - because apparently that fell on them now.
Y/N had heard the car pull up, and she immediately looked out the window. Erica was no longer at the lookout, and she realized quickly that it was Jason Carver's car.
Fuck.
"Lucas, you stay here, okay?" Y/N said, rushing to the door. It was too late, however, because Jason was walking in anyway.
"Jason?" Lucas asked, obviously confused as to why his teammate was stalking him.
"Leave. Right now." Y/N stood in front of Lucas, making it so that if Jason wanted to get past her he would have to physically harm her.
"Well, if it isn't King Steve's little pet." Jason spat out, trying to get into Y/N's head. She simply crossed her arms, still staring at the blonde man. "Or has the freak possessed you now?" That made Y/N pissed. The fact that Eddie was risking his life for a town that would never respect him made her blood boil.
"Jason, I would rather be actually possessed than spend another second in your presence." Y/N tilted her head, taking a deep breath and knowing this wouldn't end well. "So, you can either leave, or you can feel what it's like to be punched by a girl." Her smile was deadly, but as Jason glanced over her shoulder at Max, he had made up his mind.
"I'm not letting you freaks kill someone else." Jason began to move past her, so Y/N swung the best she could at his face, catching him off guard.
Not too off guard, however, because it only took a second for him to recover and pull out a gun.
"Hey!" Lucas yelled as Y/N lifted her hands, backing up. She looked over at Max, who was still in a trance, and then back at Jason, who was unwavering.
"Jason," Y/N muttered, her legs feeling numb from shock. Her heart was pounding.
"Wait, wait, wait," Lucas whispered under his breath before getting louder. "You don't have to do this. You don't have to do this, man." They were now side by side, hands up and keeping an eye on the gun.
"Yeah, I hope you're right." Jason told them.
"Wait," Y/N spoke out of breath, heart racing. She thought about if Steve could hear what was going on, if he was in the house. She hoped he wasn't, that he wouldn't hear if she was shot.
"Is there anyone else in the house?" Jason asked, stepping forward.
"No, no." Lucas shook his head in tandem with Y/N, who was afraid she was going to pass out from stress at this point.
"Turn around." Jason motioned with the gun, and Y/N shut her eyes tightly.
"What?" Lucas muttered, setting Jason off.
"Turn around!" He yelled, and Y/N quickly did as he said, eyes still closed.
"Okay, okay. Relax, relax." It was obvious that Lucas was just as stressed as Y/N was, and he turned around slowly.
"And put down your flashlight." Jason ordered loudly. Y/N did as she was told, tears beginning to fall out of her eyes.
"Steve, I don't know if you can hear me, or if you're here," Y/N started off. She had never been this afraid for her life - of all the things going on in Hawkins, all the messed up supernatural shit, she was going to be killed by a teenager with a gun. "But, if you are, I want you to know I love you." She was whispering, hoping Jason couldn't hear her.
"Stop muttering and empty your pockets!" Jason yelled, and Y/N reached into her empty ones, turning them inside out to show they weren't full. Random shit fell out of Lucas', and when Y/N spared a glance at him she saw he was shaking. "Now, here's what's gonna happen. I'm gonna back away to the top of the stairs there. Then I'll watch as you wake her up from whatever the hell this is." Jason ordered, and Y/N just shook her head.
"We can't." She said, trying to keep her voice from shaking or breaking. Lucas turned around to face Jason, and Y/N risked the same.
"Jason, if we wake her too soon, we all die." Lucas was speaking as if Jason was a child, but the blonde still wasn't understanding. The gun was still pointed toward them, and they were still without a plan.
"No. If you don't wake her up right now, you die, Sinclair." Jason threatened, his gun solely on Lucas now. Jason pulled the safety off, and Y/N felt her heart leap to her throat.
That's when the stupid idea popped into her head. And boy, was it stupid.
"I'm sorry, Steve." She whispered, just in case he was there. Because if she made it through this, if Steve heard what she was about to do, she would be waking up with his nightmares for awhile.
And then she dove at Jason.
She had crouched down a bit, so his first shot went over her head. However, she wasn't as close as she needed to be, and his second shot skimmed the far side of her left leg. She groaned, but still went to hit him, able to knock the gun out of his hand. Jason took the time to hit her, not holding back. His punch hit right on her cheekbone and temple, and she felt herself already begin to be dizzy. One hit wasn't enough, however, because he hit her again, in the same spot, and that knocked her out cold.
~
When she woke up, there was extreme pain in her leg and Lucas was screaming. She was still pretty out of it, but in a couple seconds she could also see Erica in front of her face.
"Y/N?" Her voice was swimming around her head, as if they were all emerged under water. "Steve is coming, he knows you're hurt." Erica was holding Y/N's head gently, since the left side was a giant bruise. She could feel her eye almost swollen shut, and her skull ached immediately.
"Steve?" Y/N asked, hearing an ambulance in the background. If Steve was on his way, and Erica was in here with them, that meant that it was over. "Did we win?" She asked hopefully. She couldn't see Erica's face very well, but she knew the silence and the small sniffles weren't a good sign.
Suddenly, it made sense that Lucas was crying.
"Shit," Y/N tried to sit up, but it felt like her body was light and her head was heavy. Her wrist was aching, but not as much as her leg. She had to look down to remember that she had been shot, and she couldn't get up. All she could see was the fuzzy outline of Lucas holding Max's body.
"Do you hear that?" Erica muttered, looking around. Y/N tried to focus on staying alert, listening as best she could. She heard the ambulance outside, but nothing else. It didn't take long before she heard the ground split, however - well , felt it at least. She turned to see Lucas moving Max away and watched the ground fall beneath them. She watched as it split Jason in half, and it made her heart race. They had officially lost.
She felt her heart fall all the way to the Upside Down when she realized that Steve and Eddie weren't back.
"We have to go," Y/N grunted as she looked out the opening the wall, watching the crack continue to grow and destroy everything in it's path. She looked down to see the ambulance, broken apart, so it would be of no help to them.
"We can't go!" Lucas yelled, voice breaking. "Max, she's alive!" He begged, and Y/N felt tears come to her eyes.
"Lucas," She started quietly, pausing to wince as pain throbbed once more through her leg. She needed to get pressure on it now, or she wasn't going to make it. "If Max was alive, there wouldn't be a giant tear in the ground." Y/N wanted to curl up in Steve's arms and get high with Eddie and never ever thing about this again.
"She's not! You can feel her pulse!" Lucas argued, and Y/N sighed, eyes closing tightly. It hurt slightly due to the fact that her left eye was already swelling, but it took away from the pain in her leg just a little.
"We need to go, Lucas!" Erica said, and Y/N could hear the pain Erica was trying to hide.
"Erica, you have to help me." Y/N muttered, shedding her long sleeve shirt and leaving her in a camisole. She felt her wet skin, sweat, but she was cold - she knew this was a bad sign. "I need you to tie this as tight as you can around my leg." She fastened the shirt so that the thick part was around her wound. The pain of the fabric bruising against the open wound made her almost pass out, and she fell backwards slightly.
"Why?" Erica asked with a shaky breath, hands going to grab the sleeves of the discarded shirt.
"I can't do it," Y/N whispered as if that would explain everything, leaning back and taking a deep breath. "We don't have anything to gag me with, so I'm gonna scream. But you have to keep going, alright? We have to stop the bleeding." Erica looked scared out of her mind, and Y/N would have felt bad if she wasn't bleeding out.
God, she hoped she wasn't going to bleed out.
~
Meanwhile, Steve was biking as quickly as he could to Eddie's trailer, tears in his eyes. Erica had told him that Max was dead and Y/N had been shot before Jason knocked her out. Their plan didn't work, and now the only thing left to do was hold Y/N while the world ended.
"Steve!" Dustin's voice made Steve's heart drop, because why wasn't the kid in the trailer? What the hell was wrong with him and why didn't he listen? The group pulled off to where Dustin was yelling from, realizing too late why Dustin was on the ground.
"Oh God." Robin said softly behind him. For a moment, Steve wasn't sure what to do. It was obvious that Eddie was dead, that they couldn't help him. Eddie, the guy he thought was a freak in high school but had since become close friends with. His girlfriend's best friend. Dead.
Steve didn't think before he began biking again, feeling tears sting his eyes and his lungs practically collapsing. If he stopped, he was going to throw up, and he needed to get to Y/N, make sure she was okay.
"Steve, what are you doing?" Nancy asked, voice cracking as she dropped her bike. Steve dropped his bike, running up stairs, opening the gate and going into the trailer.
"Steve, we have to go back and help Dustin." Robin said as the girls followed him into trailer. Steve looked at the spot where the sheets used to be; their ticket out of there, gone.
"Where the hell are the sheets?" He asked, looking around. He found half of the sheets thrown on the ground and grabbed them, hoping they'd be long enough.
"Are you listening? We have to go help Dustin." Nancy went to grab his arm, and he just pushed her away.
"Help him what, Nance? We can't do anything for Eddie. My girlfriend is dying on the other side, and I need to help her." Steve's voice was cracking, his throat hurting on the inside and out. He quickly threw the short rope up, and realized it would only stick out a bit on the other side. He would have to jump down and somehow avoid the chair that was also sitting in the landing area.
"Help him bring back Eddie's body." Robin argued as Steve jumped up, beginning to climb.
"How?" Steve grunted as he pulled himself up, trying to ignore the aching throughout his whole body. His shoulders still stung every time he moved his arms, but his adrenaline was high. He had one mission. "How are we gonna get his body out of the Upside Down and then explain to everyone how he died?" Steve flipped over to the other side, trying to avoid the chair. He let out a grunt as he hit it against his knee before moving it out of the way and replacing it with a mattress for the girls.
"Steve! Seriously?" They yelled up to him. Part of Steve knew that they were right, that they shouldn't leave Eddie and Dustin and they had already lost, so there was no need to return to the real world any time soon. However, his rational thought was being taken over by the fact that his girlfriend was dying and if she survived, he would have to tell her that her best friend is dead.
"I have to check on Y/N." He said before taking off.
"Why did he leave?" Dustin cried out as he ran into the trailer.
"Y/N was shot. Erica said she was knocked out, that she got into a fight with Jason and he clocked her after he shot her leg." Robin said, her voice high and tight as she filled Dustin in.
"Shit," Dustin put his hands over his eyes, and the older girls could tell he was crying.
"I know you want to bring Eddie back, but Y/N really needs our help." Nancy said, also feeling torn. She knew that Eddie deserved to be taken out of the Upside Down, but Y/N was alone with Lucas and Erica and neither of them could take her to the hospital.
"We can't let her die too," The way Robin said it made Dustin let out a sob, and the girls felt their hearts break for him.
Nancy and Robin helped Dustin up the rope, then followed him so that they were all together.
"What is he doing?" Nancy asked as they walked out of the trailer, watching Steve run around.
"Steve!" Robin yelled out, going to help her best friend. Steve acted like he didn't hear Robin - maybe he didn't - and continued to look around. "Steve, what are you doing?" Their escape plan had been the bikes leaning against Eddie's trailer, but Steve seemed to be looking around.
"We need a car," His voice was so low that Robin could barely hear him, and she just shook her head.
"We don't have a car." She reminded him gently, but he sighed and finally stopped, looking at her. She realized in the dim light that he was crying, his face red and eyes puffy. "We have the bikes. We need to go try and meet them at the mansion. Then we'll have your car." Robin was trying not to cry, because she had to be strong for her best friend. She was sure as he stared at her that he was going to have a meltdown.
"Yes. The bikes." Steve nodded, going to the bikes where Dustin and Nancy were already picking up theirs.
"We're gonna get there. She's gonna make it." Nancy tried to soothe Steve, but he wasn't listening. He just grabbed his bike and began to go quickly, leaving the rest of them to catch up.
~
"Okay," Erica grabbed the sleeves of Y/N's thing sweater she had taken off, pulling tight as she crossed them to tie it around the older girl's thigh. Y/N let out a whimper, gritting her teeth in pain. Tears were falling down her cheeks as Erica tied the sleeves as tight as she could, and Y/N finally let out a scream, fingers scratching the wood floor as she tried to grab onto something.
"Fuck!" Y/N yelled out, head tossed back and eyes closed in pain.
"I'm so sorry," Erica was crying now too, trying not to pay attention to the fact that Y/N was screaming in pain and Lucas holding Max's body, still crying.
"It's okay," Y/N whimpered as Erica had finally finished. Her leg felt like it was on fire, her thigh under the wound was practically numb. She could feel the blood everywhere, and even if she couldn't the black spots and floaty feeling gave her an idea of how much blood she had lost and how much pain she was in. "We need to go," She finally said, opening her eyes and looking at everyone.
"How? Where are you gonna go?" Lucas asked, and when Y/N turned she realized he was right, Max was breathing even if her eyes were bleeding and her limbs were broken. Holy shit.
"You and Erica are going to carry Max down to Steve's car. Then we'll drive to the hospital." She said it as simply as if she were going to take them to the movies. The only difference was the breaking in her voice from the pain and screams.
"Who's gonna drive us?" Erica asked, confused about how this plan was going to work.
"Luckily," Y/N took a deep breath before getting up on her own, letting out a few whimpers as she did so. She made sure to keep her weight off her leg as she stood, but now that she was up the pain seemed to be radiating all the way up her leg. She grimaced and squeezed her eyes shut, fingers clenching so hard that her nails were causing divots. "You don't need two feet to drive," She tried to smile at the kids, because this was traumatizing and she was not going to pass out and potentially die in front of these kids.
And thus, her adrenaline kicked in.
There was no other way to describe it, the way she was able to walk down the stairs and make it all the way to Steve's car, only using the railing and a couple walls for help. She limped heavily, tears falling down her cheeks because even though she was hopped up on her adrenaline, the pain was still almost too much to bear. She was surprised to make it to the car, unlocking the doors quickly to let Lucas and Erica into the back with Max. She lowered herself into the drivers seat as quickly as possible, which was slow. Once she was sitting down, her leg seemed to kick up in pain, and she hit her head against the the seat header, biting her lip to try and keep from screaming. The pain in her face was minuscule compared to the way her entire leg was practically on fire now. The only reason she hadn't given up was that she had to get the kids to safety, and then she would see Eddie and Steve. Hopefully.
"Okay," She muttered to herself, trying to keep her eyes open as wide as she could. She put the car in drive and quickly pulled out and onto the road, trying not to move her affected leg much. She was glad it was her left leg, the one she didn't drive with, because then she wasn't sure what would happen.
"Y/N," Erica was right next to her, and when Y/N jolted she realized that she was falling out of consciousness while driving. Shit.
"I'm not gonna make it to the hospital," She muttered, braking and putting the car back into park. Her head felt so heavy, heavier than it had ever been, and she realized she was swaying as the pain was seeping out. She wasn't sure if her eyelids were closing or if black dots were enveloping her, but she knew she wasn't gonna last long. She had started shivering at some point, even though the heater was on in Steve's car.
Oh God, she was going to die in Steve's car.
"No, please, Y/N, just stay with us." Erica grabbed Y/N's shoulder, shaking when Y/N's eyes slipped close. They opened slowly, her head rolling against the seat and facing Erica.
"I'm sorry," She whispered, because she was. She just wanted to get the kids to safety. She hadn't been able to protect Max like she promised, but she wanted to at least get the younger girl to a hospital, give her a chance. She was just so exhausted, and her body was so heavy, and she had been trying to be alright for too long. She was fading fast, and unless somehow Erica and Lucas could get her to the hospital soon she knew she was a goner.
"They'll be here soon, Y/N, I promise, just, please don't go to sleep." Erica was begging, something she never did, which was how Y/N knew it was bad. She looked down to see her makeshift bandage almost soaked completely with blood, a terrible sign.
"You have to tell Steve I love him," Y/N's voice was weak, and it scared Lucas and Erica.
"Y/N, you have to get us to hospital!" Lucas pleaded, tears still in his eyes. He felt like he had been crying for years at this point, his throat hurting and his chest feeling tight.
"I'm sorry," Y/N whispered, eyes closing again. She was sure she was never going to open them again when Erica yelled out.
"They're here!" And then she put her hand on the horn, letting out a loud honk. Y/N didn't startle as much as open her eyes slightly once more. She was able to make out her friends across the street, running toward her and ditching the bikes they had stolen.
"Steve," Y/N muttered out, a smile on her face. At least she would see Steve before she died.
"Oh, fuck," Steve said as soon as he opened the driver door to see his girlfriend, sweat coating her body and bleeding out in his front seat. She was pale and shivering, and Steve wasn't even sure what to do. She had a large bruise on her face, and he could tell that her left eye would be almost swollen shut even if she was able to open it all the way now.
"Shit," Robin said from behind him, seeing the blood soaked shirt and the state Y/N was in.
"We have to get to the hospital!" Lucas yelled from the backseat, everyone turning to him.
"Okay, princess," Steve said softly as he assessed her. Her wound was on his side, and picking her up was going to cause her pain. He didn't know how else to get her to the very back however. "Robin, open the back. Nance, you'll drive." The girls both nodded, Robin rushing back to open the trunk.
"I got blood on your seat." Y/N muttered as Steve pushed her hair back, sweat making it stick to her forehead.
"I could not give less of a fuck," Steve told her, kissing her burning forehead before taking a deep breath. "This is gonna hurt, babe, alright? But we have to get you into the back." Y/N nodded at his words, not really hearing them anyway. He carefully put his arms around her before picking her up, and she let out a scream as he put more pressure on her wound. Steve felt more tears leave his eyes at the scream, and he quickly got her into the back of his car, letting Nancy take the drivers seat. Dustin sat in the front seat, having not said a word the whole time, and Robin got in the back after Steve. Robin closed the back as Nancy stepped on the gas, clearly sensing the urgency. Steve maneuvered him and Y/N so that she was laying on him, her back to his chest, and he was able to hold her close.
"Steve," Robin muttered, eyes wide even though they were swollen with tears from the whole of the last hour. "She's not awake." She motioned her head toward Y/N, and when Steve leaned around her, he noticed her eyes were completely closed. His heart dropped and he felt sick to his stomach as he tried to shake her awake, watching her chest rise and fall slowly.
"Y/N, please," He whispered to her, a couple tears falling and landing on her skin, dampening it even more. The relief he felt when Y/N grumbled and moved slightly was immeasurable, and he brought her even closer. "Please stay awake. I just need you to keep your eyes open," He begged, heart seizing as she moved a little bit more.
"Steve," She whispered, her head leaning back so she could look at him. "I don't wanna die," She begged, tears falling down her cheeks. Steve felt violently ill at her confession. His eyes were burning with unshed tears and his throat, where he had been choked twice in the past day, was also burning with the weight of keeping himself together.
"You're not going to die," He didn't know how far away they were from the hospital, but he knew they had to be getting close. "I won't let you die." He moved one hand to push her hair back on the side where she wasn't all beat up, kissing her damp skin.
"Where's Eddie?" She muttered, and Steve felt his body go cold.
He couldn't tell her that her best friend was dead, not while she as dying herself. He was afraid that telling her would make her give up, that he wasn't good enough on his own. Eddie and her had been friends for longer than Steve can remember, and if he had a friend like that he wouldn't feel great either. She was barely conscious, and Steve could only hope she wouldn't remember asking.
"We're here!" Nancy yelled as she stopped the car abruptly. Steve thanked every God he knew of that they had made it just in time, and hoped that Max and Y/N would be okay.
"Eddie," Y/N muttered, and that's when Steve knew that she had figured out.
Erica ran around the car to open the back, and Robin jumped out quickly to help Steve with Y/N, who was whimpering and crying out even though she hadn't moved yet.
"Come on, Princess," Steve grabbed her, helping her out of the car. When he pulled her close she screamed out, and that's when the sobbing started. Her cries were loud, so loud that Robin had to run to the bushes and throw up. She couldn't handle the cries and the pain and the fact that it seemed like everyone was falling apart.
Steve held himself together, his sole mission getting Y/N into the building. He held her close, trying to ignore her sobs. She was grabbing his shirt in her hands, and he was struggling to bring her in since she was withering in his grip. He held on tightly, however, trying to ignore the scream she let out as he pressed her wound closer to his body, putting more pressure on it.
"I'm so sorry," He told her, taking deep breaths until he finally got to the front door, where Erica and Dustin were already holding the doors open.
"Help us!" Lucas screamed, and that's when Steve realized he had been holding Max the whole time as well. Steve's arms were aching, but there was no way he was letting go of Y/N until she was in a bed. He looked around, seeing a couple people already coming in from what Vecna had done. Steve wasn't sure what the full extent was, but he knew that the Earth had cracked apart and people were hurt. He just hoped they would be open enough to help her.
"She was shot. She's lost a lot of blood." Steve said as evenly as he could, watching a couple people running around. It wasn't long before two stretchers were being rolled out, one for Max and one for Y/N.
"She doesn't have any allergies that I know of," Steve set Y/N down on the bed, but she was still holding onto his shirt lightly with a shaking hand.
"Do you know what type of blood she has?" A doctor asked, Steve following as the whole crew started moving.
"No, I-I don't know, I can call her house but I-" Steve was rambling and he knew he wasn't helping but he didn't know what to do. He was walking with Y/N, watching her eyes closing as she shook. Her hand was loosening on his shirt, and he felt his heart break as he grabbed her hand instead, shattering as he realized it was cold.
"It's okay. We'll take care of her." With a smile the doctor walked behind doors, doors Steve knew he couldn't go behind. In a daze and without thinking, he squeezed Y/N's hand and kissed her forehead.
"I love you," He finally said, and then she was taken away, and he watched until the doors closed. He watched as her head fell to the side, and he wished she could have said it back.
And then everything went black in his mind.
In reality, Robin was there, leading him to the waiting room. She was talking to him, saying his name, but he was staring straight forward eyes glassy.
Y/N. Max. Eddie.
He was supposed to be the babysitter. He was supposed to keep everyone safe. He wanted to be the hero this time. He didn't want to stay with everyone again, the way he had almost every time something like this has happened. And the one time he didn't stay with the kids, the time he left everyone, people died.
If he had been there, he would have been able to take out Jason. Max would still be alive. Y/N wouldn't have been shot and knocked out.
"Steve," It felt like the world came back all at once, and he turned to see Robin looking at him, eyes wide and tear tracks running down her face. She was gripping his arm, looking at him worriedly. He stood up, and she followed. "Where are you going?" She followed quickly as he began walking away. He couldn't just sit while his girlfriend was fighting for her life.
"Steve!" Dustin yelled, but Steve just walked over to Nancy who was sitting next to Lucas.
"Keys," He held his hand out. He felt empty, as if he were walking in a daze, and he didn't even register why Nancy looked up at him weirdly.
"Why don't you stay here? Wait for news on Max and Y/N." Nancy suggested, concerned. Steve wasn't crying anymore, and his face showed no emotions.
"Give me the keys." He would wrestle them from Nancy if he had to, determination filling his body.
"Where are you gonna go?" Dustin asked. The kid hadn't stopped crying all night, and if Steve were thinking clearly he would have told him to drink some water.
"To kill Jason," Clearly he wasn't thinking in any capacity. The gasps that everyone let out didn't deter him at all. Maybe he wouldn't kill Jason, but he was going to beat the kid to a pulp.
"Jason is dead," Lucas muttered, and for some reason that broke Steve.
"I need to get out of here." He said, walking toward the door, but then he was on the floor and everyone was screaming and he realized that maybe he should have been checked into the hospital awhile ago because the blood on his jacket was not all Y/N's.
"Steve!" He heard Robin scream, but he couldn't move. The pain was consuming him, both mental and physical, and he wanted to yell, to get up and find Y/N but he was glued to the floor.
Steve was sure he was not waking up.
~
He doesn't know how he got up. He doesn't know how he got to where he is now, sitting in a hospital bed. He doesn't remember anything, even as the doctor is telling him that he had a severe panic attack, that the wounds on his torso weren't infected and would heal fine but what animal was it again? Steve just blinked as Robin lied, said it wasn't an animal but a couple of bear traps, that they were being dumbasses and they knew better now and did they have any updates on Y/N?
"She'll be okay. She should be able to walk very soon-" The doctor cut herself off when there was a commotion down the hall. People were yelling, and there was screaming. Familiar screaming.
"Shit," Steve muttered as he sat up, watching Y/N come through the door, teeth gritted. She was favoring her right leg, but she was quick to get in the room. By the time the nurses got to the room, Y/N had already made it to his bed.
"They told me your room number." Y/N smirked as she climbed over Steve, wincing to be able to lay on her right leg on the other side of him. He smirked as he put an arm around her, looking at the outraged faces of the nurses and doctor.
"How did a GSW outsmart and outrun you?" The doctor asked the two nurses.
"She's very sneaky." One of the nurses said, and the three simply walked out, the doctor rolling his eyes and looking like he was seriously considering leaving and never coming back to this hospital.
"We're gonna make it out of here." Steve told her, kissing her forehead. She smiled as she moved slightly to look up at him.
"We already have."

part of the reason why i find nightmare time episodes so interesting is because in half of them, i'm not even sure who the writers want me to root for.
take honey queen, for example. linda's the focus of it and we see her emotions, motivations & family, so it's expected that she would be the "hero" of the episode. but she isn't. the episode consists of her doing horrible things to zoey, zoey doing horrible things to her, and it gradually escalating to the point of kidnapping and murder. it's due to linda that zoey dies. and she gets what she wants, what the whole episode has been about her vying to achieve, but we as viewers don't feel satisfied, because how can all that's happened possibly be worth such a tiny, temporary, meaningless title? linda's father seems to be proud of her, which is what she's been hoping to gain and added an extra element of sympathy for her character. but in the end, he sacrifices her to an eldritch being because she "the hungriest". honey queen is tragic and comedic and messed up and chaotic and there are The Horrors and nobody is distinctly good.
and that stays the same in every nightmare time episode. so many of these characters wouldn't care a bit if they killed someone, as long as they were able to survive. but that's just hatchetfield. a strange community of selfish people with no clear morals, because that's all they know and that's all they can be if they want to survive. they have a magic child fighting ring, they have evil weed birds, they have clones in the technical department, they have an asexual axe murderer in the woods, they have a wealthy doting mother who's been alive for centuries, they have a 1986 foxbody mustang possessed by a dead psychiatrist, so on and so forth.
the whole hatchetfield universe is so surreal: this is a place where people go missing every day, where gruesome murders are dismissed unless it threatens their football team losing to the clivesdale chemists, where a character can do the most horrendous things or seem absolutely irredeemable, only for the narrative to put them through so much that the audience ends up loving them.
each character is so complex and unique (i could write an essay about literally any of them if i tried to- and yet that includes peanuts the hatchetfield pocket squirrel). none of them are meant to be all good, and none of them are meant to be all bad. they're realistic to their environment and screwed over by their universe and they all have their own lives to focus on.
the vast majority of the antagonistic characters are very beloved in this fandom, because this is hatchetfield, where the most horrifying things are normalised in-universe, so they begin to be for us, too. we don't think it's as awful when we see zoey's body hanging from the rafters, or watch boy jeri be killed by his own son, or see eldritch beings hunt people down, since that's all seen as far more normal in this world. besides that, people like to have flawed characters, it's good to have little fictional freaks committing atrocities since it means the episodes are completely unpredictable.
every volume of nightmare time is a rollercoaster or a fever dream, because they'll take the most unexpected characters and the most random concepts ever and throw them into a completely absurd plot. so many modern pieces of media follow a specific genre or structure, but the hatchetfield universe does whatever the hell it wants, and it's so investing to see. there aren't any limits here, and each episode is a separate timeline, so the creators can go wild and do literally anything with this town. it's like a treasured collection of cracky aus that have been written and performed astonishingly beautifully.
anyway, this is your sign to go check out nightmare time and @blinkysrewatchparty! it will be entirely worth it, i promise <3

Yuma couldn't contain it. He also wouldn't deny that it wasn't in his nature to do so, but you seemed to open the door for it when you very casually said that he would have that freedom. You never give Yuma freedom, not in such an incisive way, because he will keep it to himself until the right moment for it to happen, where he would feel like it should and you don't expect it to actually happen until he does. He ended up sleeping first, you followed soon after, but for some reason he ended up waking up in the middle of the night and not wanting to use his cell phone, he just stayed there, in the silence, in the darkness, leaving his mind empty for the devil to work at will.
First there were the thoughts, intruders, you were right next to him, breathing heavily, but some low whistles that you let out made him a little more freaked out, you didn't move too much which meant you were sleeping heavily, all of this was more than enough to let him with an inexplicably hard on, so he needed to do something about it.
He didn't need too much effort, his hand slid down your body, down to your pajamas, as always shorts, so convenient, as if you was expecting him to do it. Yuma ran his hand through the gap between your legs and moved your pajamas to the side, without underwear, so convenient again. At this point Yuma, too convinced of himself, played a little with your vulva, parted your lips to explore and looked for your button as best he could. You let out a few murmurs and move subtly, but nothing too much, so he just continues, playing with you until you're wet enough, until he feels it running down his fingers, which he collects to savor your taste.
Now he has his hand down his pants, pulling his hard cock out, his heart pounding in despair. Yuma gives a good masturbation, caresses herself, pays attention, pulls the sheet away a little to see your pert ass and bites his own lip to contain any noise or desire to crush you in the slap.
"Fuck…" He whispers and then inserts his cock, after a not very incessant search, you were ready, when he penetrated your first instinct was to buck up more, you meowed softly and moved, as if you had to make him fit inside, or maybe because he didn't stop even in this condition.
Yuma stood still for a while to reason, you contracting around him, moving subtly, the meows softly and soon your head was sending the information that it was a wet dream. Yuma looked out the half-open window of the room, receiving the early morning light and when he controlled himself he began to raise his hips very slowly, sighing softly, avoiding touching too much beyond your hips so as not to lose control of the situation.
"Shit…" his heart getting faster and faster, Yuma starts to increase his speed little by little, without impact, something controlled to keep you sleeping until he reaches his goal. Your body responded considerably, discomfort began to set in as your clothes began to feel wet, but you didn't want to wake up, not yet.
Yuma was impressed with the way everything went down, with him tilting his head back again and again, some moans escaping his lips, mischievous, the fingers making a slight firmness in your ass and how that position put good pressure on his dick, however Yuma remained centered, continued movement, without much impact.
When you felt it was time to wake up he was close to the end, your body shivered at the first instance and a moan ran through your lips.
"Y-Yuma?" You moved your eyes to be able to fill them in, but it wasn't very successful as the room was slightly dark, your sensitive body was already feeling the impact of a limit.
"Fuck" when he noticed that you were awake he just held your hips now with more force and started to thrust desperately, his body pink and sweaty, Yuma was tired, so he started punching, making moans grow throughout the room, along with the noise of the impact. It didn't take you long to cum, just like him, after a few well-placed moves inside you, he was spilling his liquid, filling you completely.

Snarry = soulmates.
No, really! See? I have proof!
i.e. here, have a collection of fics where Snarry are, in fact, soulmates. (Which is basically canon, but y'know, whatever.) (Some people need convincing, you know?)
Tumblr media

The Lover's Ghost
by Weightless. Rated T. 8k. Soulmarks. Angst & pining. Hurt/comfort.
During the war, Harry and Snape spend their nights alone, at opposite ends of a dining table, plagued by nightmares. As they draw into each other, Harry realises that perhaps Snape bearing his soul mark was what he had desired all along.
He Knew
by WordsAreTrulyBeautiful. Rated E. 13k. Fluff & smut. Patronuses.
Celebrations, misunderstandings, a large manor, the patronus charm, and a whole lot of pent up sexual tension.
Really, it's all Sirius's fault.
A Universe of Searching Souls
by Writcraft (@writcraft.) Rated E. 9k. Soulmark. Soul bond.
When the small, innocuous mark on Harry’s hip begins to cause him discomfort, he decides to go and visit the person who has a similar mark of their own. He’s fairly certain there must be some mistake, because the universe wouldn’t be daft enough to give Harry and Severus matching soul bond marks. Would it?

this is music!
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Reader
Summary: you and eddie discover just how different your music choices are
Warnings: fluff, angst if you squint, eddie being a child
Request?: No
Word Count: 1.1k
A/N: here’s a quick little fic about eddie being a diva over his music. that pretty much sums it up. - sava
Tumblr media
“I mean, what are you even looking for?” Eddie asks Robin, carrying over a handful of his cassette tapes.
Nancy and Steve were still in the upside down, Nancy showing the signs that Max did when in the trace caused by Vecna. Robin, Eddie, and yourself managed to get out right before and seeing Steve on the other side shaking Nancy furiously was not how you were expecting the rest of the night to go. You were worried, along with everyone else. We couldn’t afford to lose anyone else in Hawkins, it was taking a toll on the town and you were scared what could happen to Vecna if he killed more and more kids.
“Madonna, Blondie, Bowie, Beatles. Music! We need music!” Robin exclaims, holding up his Iron Maiden cassette. Uh oh. You knew this wasn’t going to be taken well by Ed-
“THIS. IS. MUSIC!” He yells, snatching the cassette from her hands and waving it as he spoke. Eddie was passionate about music, whether it’s playing it himself or listening. He was in the minority with his love of metal in the town of Hawkins, one of many things they used to throw the word “freak” in his face, which was just cruel. The way his eyes would light up as he listened to the latest Metallica album was one of your favorite recent memories…before Hawkins had yet another threat on its hands. So when people bad mouthed one of the few things he loved most, it was like a stab through the heart for him.
“Eds, you know that’s not what she meant. Now here, maybe there’s something here she’d be interested in,” you say throwing a pile on the bed. Eddie looks over your shoulder as you and Robin look through the pile, his face scrunched. The day would come sooner or later where you’d reveal the secret stash of tapes you kept at Eddie’s trailer, and, considering the circumstances, now was as good a time as any.
“What about Queen, do you think she likes them? Oooh, wait, I found a Blondie tape!” You say, holding both tapes up in Robin’s view. She nods and you both jump from the bed and rush towards the opened gate that sat upon the ceiling of Eddie’s living room.
“Steve! We have some music that doesn’t suck!” Robin shouts at him.
“Robin! Be nice!” You scold her. She holds her hands up in a surrender pose, and you hear and fall coming from the ceiling. You both look up to see Nancy laying in Steve’s arms on the floor of Eddie’s trailer in the Upside Down. Steve looks at your guys and gives you a thumbs up, with you letting out a sigh of relief. She was okay.
For now.
You walk back into Eddie’s room and he’s sitting on his bed with his arms crossed. You nod at Dustin and the rest of his freshmen friends to head out, silently asking for time alone with your boyfriend. Slowly, you approach the bed and sit on the edge, looking at him with a guilt face.
“Are you okay Eddie?” You ask, placing your hand on his leg, which he shakes off. You let out a slightly annoyed sigh and turn your body more towards him so you can see him. You watch as he grabs at the tapes you had placed on his bed with a huff. Even in world-ending circumstances, Eddie could be as dramatic as ever and find a way to throw a fit. Most of the time you found it to be cute, watching his features contort as he passionately went on and on about whatever got him into a tangent. However, now was not that time.
“These tapes are not mine, Y/N,” he says, looking up to you again.
“Yeah, I know.”
“So…why are they here?” He asks you, putting them back down in the pile you had made. You give him an “are you serious” look, not being able to tell if he genuinely thinks they just appeared in his trailer. He only gives you a waiting expression in return, confused as to why you haven’t spoken yet.
“I brought them over here for when I’m hanging out at the trailer when you’re not around. No big deal,” you explain calmly. You practically lived with Eddie at the trailer he shared with his Uncle Wayne, not really wanting to spend much time away from the man you loved most, given your history and status throughout the town.
“No big deal? Y/N, what about my music? Do you not like it?” He asks, standing from the bed. You let out a small sigh and hang your head.
“Yes but sometimes I want to listen to the music I like most. Metal and rock are great and all, but I do like pop music too, Eddie,” you admit. You hear him scoff.
“And why didn’t you tell me this?” He turns suddenly, this eccentric dramatics coming out in full swing. You stand from his bed and get closer to him, softly cupping his face. He begins to look away from you, but you gently tilt him back to look at you.
“Eds, I promise it’s not the end of the world that I like a different music genre. We don’t have to be the exact same, because that’s what makes it nice to be with one another. Can you honestly tell me that you’d like being with me if I was exactly like you?” You ask him, your nose touching his. He lets out a quiet huff and meets your gaze. You watch the mess of curls slowly nod in understanding, feeling his soft lips press to your cheek. You bring your hand up to cup his cheek for a moment and brush his dirty face with the pad of your thumb. After being in the upside down for so low, both of you needed a shower and a change of clothes.
“C’mon, everyone’s probably in the living room waiting on us. Plus we should get this back there so Steve and Nancy can make it back into our normal dimension without breaking anything,” you tell him as you rise from his stain-filled mattress. He rises as well and the two of you are closer, him pressing another kiss to your cheek.
“Okay, let’s go sweetheart. Oh and please don’t make me listen to Rapture. Like ever. I hate that song.”

Sth I find interesting after watching the Loki Series Finale, and seeing everyone's reactions to it, is that you can immediately tell what someone's priorities were for the ending (ships aside)
Because depending on what your priorities for the Story or Loki as a Character were, people are either really hyped / optimistic for the future ... or just really freaking depressed right now.
Like on the positive side we have Loki:
- finally finding his "Glorious Purpose", his place in... well "outside" the world/ universe, becoming an even greater being, while his story comes full circle
- reaching his full potential, unlocking new powers, new magic, and being the God of Stories
- becoming one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, and hey maybe he's even able to travel freely through time now and not trapped at the space outside of time
- creating Yggdrasil and protecting it, and by that, saving his friends and the Multiverse, being a true hero
__________
But then on the other side we have the more pessimistic view of Loki:
- finding his "Glorious" Purpose, taking over the burden of a throne he realized he never wanted, but doing it because it was the only option he saw to save his friends and the multiverse ( though I wouldnt even call it a choice, he just resigned himself to accept it because the other options where helping the current HWR, killing Sylvie, risking a universal war or death by spaghettification....)
- making the ultimate sacrifice by chosing to "give everyone else a chance at life" over his own needs, his own future, his desire to be with his friends...
- now having the huge responsible of keeping the multiverse alive & intact for all eternity
And do we even know if he can travel freely through time? (I hope so), but how much power does it take him? What if protecting Yggdrasil means he cant leave the space outside time? That would mean he is trapped there, for all eternity, alone, having to watch over his friends without actually being able to interact with them. He will be able to see that they are okay (hopefully), but he will never be a part of their lives again.... Loki, the very character who explicitely said he doesnt want to be alone...
So depending on how you view it, the ending was either really epic, with Loki getting several upgrades and creating a new era for the MCU
or
Somewhere between bittersweet and incredibly dreadfully tragic with Loki making the ultimate sacrifice, losing everything he just worked so hard to keep (after all the struggles of his original timeline too with Thanos) with Loki probably never being part of any of their stories again, damned to eternal loneliness.
(I'm personally more the 2nd type... I do get the others point of view, it was epic and Loki unlocking his true potential as the God of Stories is insane, GOS Loki is one of my faves in the comics. And my GOD the imagery of Yggdrasil was freaking gorgeous.
But... my main priority was "Loki, for ONCE, getting a chance at life, to be himself, live, with his new found friends/ family at his side..." so you can guess how freaking sad I am over the ending... hell I dont even care about the ships, I just didnt want him to be alone... I just wanted him to have a friend...
Its like, no matter what or where, whether its the OG Timeline Loki, or L1130 or even in the comics... Loki is meant to be a sacrifice for the "greater good" or to suffer trying change or even help, like he did in the comics as Kid Loki and Agent of Asgard.
That being said, I still cling to the hope that Loki can either freely travel through time now or somehow find a way to get in contact with his friends again... of them finding a way to get to him... please, Marvel, I need a Loki who is allowed to be happy, he certainly deserves it.

Could I please request a fic based off the sound floating around tiktok that goes like "I needed a soldier, you wanted a father..." "Well I guess we're both disappointed"
I was thinking maybe it could be a lady lesso X rafals daughter. Where r was sent to kill lesso and become the new dean of evil but they end up falling for each other (enemies to lovers style) because lesso and r both see how much damage Rafal has done to them mentally and physically. This allows them to both heal together and they end up defeating Rafal together. Afterward either r or Leonora end up finding out they are pregnant and r freaks out over becoming a parent because they are scared they will be just like rafal and won't be able to break the cycle of abuse but lesso comforts them and tells them that they are nothing like their father and will be an amazing parent.
Just breathe
*Authors note~ this is such an important message to show. You aren't what you are born from, and you always have the power to change*
Trigger warnings~ manipulation abuse

Tumblr media
Abuse was all you knew, that's why it was unsurprising that your father sent you to do his dirty work. His enemy, the newly appointed dean of evil, your task to dispose of her. Your father explained how she was ugly inside and out and not worthy of such a position. You'd be doing everyone a service and he'd love you forever. You craving his love would do anything for him, anything to stop the abuse. You knew what would happen if you didn't comply.
Arriving at the school, you were completely shocked to see her. She was gorgeous. How could your father say she was ugly? In fact she much reminded you of your mother, who died at the hands of your father. You knew you had to do this, but when she spoke you could've cried, her voice sounding like angels singing. The perfect amount of sexy and sweet. How would you be able to complete the task, when this was your target?
The more time you let pass, the more frustrated your father became with you. It shouldn't have taken you this long, you knew that but getting to know Leonora was truly magical. She didn't know you were meant to kill her, and truly you didn't know if you could. All you wanted was to love her despite the fact it's wrong. Your father would be massively unhappy and the punishment would be hell but totally worth it.
Your father visited you, frustrated that you'd refused to kill her. You took a beating to protect her, as soon as he left you made your way to Leonora. That's where you broke down, you let her see how broken you were and sobbed through the confession of being sent her to kill her. You confessed you didn't want to. That you had feelings for her, but he was so so angry and you didn't want him to hurt her.
Leonora's heart broke at the sight, it was clear you were poorly looked after and manipulated to suit his needs. Love wasn't something you'd been given unconditionally and that's all she wanted to do for you. Provide you with that special love and care you deserved. You'd heal from this together she'd make sure of that, cradling your battered body in her arms she made a silent promise to protect you.
Your relationship flourished after that, you both healed together and truly you'd never been happier. Leonora showed you what true unconditional love was. But that didn't take away the fears of losing her. The day you found out you were pregnant was honestly one of the best and scariest days of your life. Knowing you had created something so beautiful, something that was you and your lover was amazing but the fear was there.
Lesso could easily leave you. Walk away like nothing ever happened between you both. But what if you couldn't raise a child? What if you were broken like him? How would you provide love and stability for a child when your whole childhood had been filled with abuse that only people could imagine in their worst nightmares. You couldn't mess your beautiful innocent baby up like he did to you. You had to break the cycle.
By the time you'd told Leonora you were sure that you were unable to be a suitable mother. Be Leonora was quick to reassure you, together you'd raise this baby to be the most loving kind gently Never to exist. You chuckled at the fact she was assuming your baby would be a Never. Leo reasoning that their mothers were Never's so the baby will too. Your baby. You began finally look forward to the future, your girlfriend and your baby, life could only get better. You'd both break the cycle and protect the child with your life.
Word count~ 836
*Authors note~ I'm not even happy with this but I hope it's okay :)*

At this point in the manga, Toga has NO sympathy from me.
She fucked up, and now she has to live with the consequences. But apparently that upsets and angers her!
And it's worse with Ochako backing down and wanting to appeal to this psycho after telling her this.
In the beginning she had the potential to be good and a window into how a quirk can negatively affect a person's mental state, but now she's just a yandere waifu for people to fawn over.
Hi @theloganator101👋,
Honestly that is a completely fair view to have on Toga, one that I agree with a lot.
This is the problem with her, Toga's quirk was meant to have driven her insane, yet she's never ever shown any conflict about what she is doing.
Toga is a mass murderer and was one prior to her involvement with the league. Regardless of what the story may say now, she was always a serious and full villain. And was one before Twice's death.
She's never shown regret of "Oh no! I didn't mean to kill them! Oh no what have I done?!" before the madness of her quirk takes over which hurts her character. This makes Toga come off as a fetish - a blood themed Yandere - rather than a redeemable character.
Despite her madness she is shown to be able to exercise restraint (sparing Camie in the Hero License Exam Arc) which makes the reader wonder why she killed all those boys before. It adds doubt to the credibility of her madness.
She's never given a hero mirror, such as in Vlad King, with similar but controlled blood urges. In fact, no other character (even those with blood quirks like Vlad or Stain) have these urges. This lack of exploration hurts her character.
Her sympathetic backstory. Were her parents abusive? Or did they just take bad advice from a quirk doctor? The scenes we see show them scolding her for drinking blood from a dead bird which would freak out any parent. The radio quote wasn't nice from Toga's parents but here's the thing - her house was wrecked when she returned to it. How did her community react to Toga's parents after she became a mass murderer? Well I bet not well. I bet they had to move and were tormented by the community until they did. I bet all that damage done to her abandoned home (such as scratching out her heights) was done by angry civilians rather than her mum and dad. She also doesn't show concern or thought about them (you would think she would even to just confirm if they were abusive or not) but she is given nothing.
The lack of exploration of her backstory. Her old friends? Toga doesn't seem to care or think about them. Her parents? Same. She doesn't seem to miss anyone before her time at the LOV yet Hori never confirms abuse occurred with her parents or if she was bullied (presumably not). Not only that but Hori also makes her largely a blank slate other than her madness (and friendship with Twice) - what is she into other than mass murdering people, blood ... or fashion I guess? This hurts her redeemability since most of what we know about her is the villianous deeds/ horrid things she likes to do. It becomes easy to read her as someone who just wants to murder who she likes and indulge in her quirk driven urges.
She is selfish in her grief. Toga is upset over Twice's death yet never once thinks that her and the LOV are killing many more civilians and heroes (causing them the same pain she is going through right now.) This moment should have been a turning point for her - she should have seen what she and the others were doing after losing Twice and begun to feel regret yet... Nope!
Ocacho is doing all the work in Toga's redemption. At the moment, Toga doesn't want to be saved or want to be redeemed she just wants to "Kill all the heroes!" It feels really strange to see Ochacho rushing after her genuinely wanting to talk about 'love' which Toga isn't interested in while she goes on a warpath.
Am I meant to feel sad she is getting rightfully rejected by her crushes for being an awful human? She is a mass murderer, an unrepentant one who is driven by her quirk coded lust like predator hunting prey. (Seriously, switch Izuku and Toga's genders for a moment and think about the scene where she drags him through the warp to ask him out again. Would anyone be condemming Izumi for rejecting male!Toga or talking about the supposed subtext of male!Toga asking for help? Or would the general response be, rightfully, of course Izumi is going to reject you - creep! There would be no discussions of that supposed subtext either.)
Hori can't seem to decide what he wants from this character. Is she a sexy blood themed Yandere, who is super bad? Or a conflicted mentally ill character who needs help and wants to be redeemed. Hori goes - why not both and makes this mess.
TLDR - Hori had potential with Toga to be a good exploration on how quirks can effect a persons mental state and cause them to lose their minds. Yet he wasted every opportunity to do this. He didn't build up her redemption properly so now we are morbidly watching Ochaco drag Toga to the heroes side, kicking and screaming about how she wants to "kill all heroes."
