Tips for NaNoWriMo 2022
NaNoWriMo 2022 is 12 hours away! I will not be staying up to midnight to start writing cause your girl needs her sleep, but I am still so excited to write tomorrow! Last year, NaNoWriMo went extremely well for me, and I’m trying not to hold myself to the same standards this year cause I’m in the middle of college apps now. Still, I am so in love with the story I’m going to be writing, and I cannot wait to dive into this new world with all these new characters. NaNoWriMo can be extremely intimidating, especially if it’s your first time trying it out. 50,000 words in 30 days is a whole lot of words in not a whole lot of days. Don’t worry! Here are a few tips to keep NaNo 2022 as stress free and fun as possible.
Word Vomit and Writing Sprints
My biggest problem when doing NaNo in past years is that I let my perfectionism get in the way of just writing! I never believe in editing as you write, but it’s especially bad when you’re writing for NaNo. December is for editing whatever mess you wrote; November is for actually getting it all down. Normally, I don’t do word writing sprints, but writing sprints during NaNo are the most helpful things on the planet. Challenging yourself to sit still and write as many words as possible for 5 minutes is so helpful in reaching your daily writing goal! I often call the product of those little writing sprints ‘word vomit.’ It’s messy, probably makes no sense, and will definitely end up getting deleted later, but it’s words and they’re on the page. That’s the most important part! I talk about this more later, but NaNo is not about writing pretty; it’s about writing fast. My favorite thing to do during NaNo is employ the trusty bracket method: if I have absolutely no clue what to write next I simply write a short description of what I want to happen in brackets and move on to the next thing that I know I can write. This is one of the times when quantity is far better than quality. You’ll have time to make it pretty later. For now, just do a writing sprint, and word vomit!
Winning Isn’t Everything!
It’s the only thing! Jk jk. I have a complicated relationship with the “winning” and “losing” aspect of NaNoWriMo. On one hand, it is kinda a competition, but on the other hand, saying you either win or lose something puts a whole lot of pressure and stress on it, especially for young writers. I used to get so upset when I ‘lost’ NaNo even though I had written thousands of words and completely exhausted myself in the process. Now, I tend to take a much more lax approach to it, and I think that comes from having been on both sides of it. 'Winning’ and ‘losing’ Nano has been pretty much equally beneficial to me as writer and as a person. It helps you grow and learn what works for you and what doesn’t work! Now, I’m not saying all this to say that I’m just going to relax and not even going to try to write 50,000 words in November. I definitely am going to try, but at the same time, writing something is better than writing nothing, so I count that as a win either way. If you are completely committed to doing whatever you can to reach your NaNo goal, though, make sure to be kind to yourself. We’re only human!
Playlist? Check! Tea? Check! Chocolate? Check!
Some people jump straight into NaNo without an outline and with only a vague idea of what they’re writing. Some people (me included) have a full detailed outline ready to go at 12AM. It doesn’t matter which side you’re on. But, I do recommend no matter what, take at least five minutes to decide where you're going to write! It doesn’t have to be the same place every time even though I do love me a good little routine. Maybe you carve out a little space in your room, or you have your favorite writing nook in your local library! Whatever works for you and your writing process! I also recommend having a little writer bag. I take mine with me to school every day. It has my headphones, my planning notebook, my laptop charger, a bottle of CrystalLite iced tea, and some Hershey Kisses: all the things that bring me joy and prepare me to get in my writing headspace. Having all those things nearby and easily accessible helps cut down on prep time and decreases procrastination or my worst enemy.
NaNo Your Way!
This is probably my biggest tip. I didn’t start actually winning and enjoying myself until I realized that it really didn’t matter what anyone else was doing. It was me against me. My own self-doubt was my own worst enemy. That means that during NaNo do whatever you want! If you want to write 50,000 words of poetry instead of a novel, do that! That is still 50,000 words of writing, and that is a major accomplishment, and tbh, slightly more impressive. The beauty of NaNo is how every person does it differently, but we all come together to create something at the end of it! Don’t worry about finding the perfect word or filling all of those plot hole! Like I said earlier, all of that will come later! Take full advantage of the absolute messiness of NaNo! You don't have to write anything to please anybody but yourself. If you do happen to be writing something that you want to edit later and publish, then whatever you write in a first draft is for those future versions of you to edit and rewrite. Right now, it’s worthy just as it is, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

per about 3 posts back, national clean your house month will be upon us in a bit over two weeks!!! as such, i decided to make a little journal page with some goals & ideas, and of course had to make the whole event magical girl themed to make it more fun!!
watching magical girl shows (either new or rewatches), listening to magical girl playlists/soundtracks, putting on relevant video essays—as long as it’s magical girl related, it will be my cleaning companion!!!

Which Hacketteers do you think are pro Christmas music and who do you think is totally against it?
Okay this is a great question and such a hard one for me because I’m kind of ambivalent about Christmas music myself! I like it fine for a couple of days beforehand but when it starts playing in stores right after Halloween? I’m still in spooky mode, stop trying to make me be merry for the sake of capitalism! 😂
Also given the setting of New York state, I wonder if any of them come from Jewish or otherwise non-Christian families. Idk who’s most likely to fit into that category but it’s a consideration. Christmas culture infects everyone though lol.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
I feel like Jacob is a literal child so he probably gets super excited about everything Christmas and is like helping his parents put up elaborate light displays and buying Christmas themed snacks and stuff, so he’s probably listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween and I feel like Emma might be similar. Emma might come Christmas caroling at your house because she loves performing so much! Emma doesn’t mind a pop cover or a bit of Mariah Carey at all.
Kaitlyn might be a total Grinch if left to her own devices but she can’t help indulging Jacob a little. She doesn’t mind Christmas music in the context of Christmas movies but she probably wouldn’t listen to it on purpose just for fun. She has a secret soft spot for the soundtrack to The Muppet Christmas Carol.
I feel like the holidays might be complicated for Ryan. We don’t know why his mom isn’t around, though I obviously have my headcanons for fiction, but that might make it a little bit of a tough time for him. At the same time, he seems really invested in his sister so he probably wants to make Christmas special for her. He lives with his grandparents, so maybe they’re listening to the more classic, old school Christmas music and jazz covers and he’s probably fine with that.
Dylan I think could go either way, either he’s rolling his eyes about it altogether or he’s making massive playlists of indie and alt rock covers and then throwing in annoying goofy songs like “Dominick the Donkey” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” I think he probably does not want to hear Christmas music prior to Thanksgiving. But maybe I’m just projecting as I often do.
Abi’s watching The Nightmare Before Christmas on repeat to match her Hot Topic aesthetic. 😂 She likes that original soundtrack and the various artist cover versions and “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out” by Fall Out Boy. But when it’s actually the week of Christmas she gives in and gets into the regular cheery stuff.
I wonder how long Nick has been in the US because I always think it has to be so weird for Australians to have all this wintery themed Christmas music when it’s summer in their hemisphere at Christmas time! Maybe he gets really into it because it’s so different from what he’s used to. Or maybe he gets cranky and misses the summer and listens to Tim Minchin’s “White Wine in the Sun” to remember warmer holidays. Could go either way.
Maybe it’s his 50’s fit talking, but I imagine Max being into the old crooner type Christmas music, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra and more recently stuff like Michael Bublé that’s copying that style. I feel like he starts terribly serenading Laura with that music in early November.
I feel like Laura might not get super into Christmas until school is out because she’s so driven, so maybe she pushes all that out of her mind until then, except when Max is badly crooning “White Christmas” in the shower. But then again, I also headcanoned her as a choir kid in high school so she probably had concerts to practice for too that made her get into the spirit earlier than she really wanted.
Thanks for the asks today y’all! I think my brain is tapped out but I will be meditating on some I can send back! 💜💜💜

Getting back to the music
This weekend I stepped out of the BTS bubble partly due to work pressures but also partly by choice. I have a long and varied past, fangirling over fictional characters, but discovering BTS has probably been my first experience of parasocial interactions with real people and to be honest it shocked me to find out how invested you can become in the life of someone you have never met, living more than 5000 miles away.
Tumblr media
There has been a lot of shit going down lately both inside and outside the fandom and it's been taking all the fun out of being here. So I've been asking myself why did I start this blog, why am I still here and what are the things that I can and want to do with it?
First and foremost, I am here for the music. I commented before on BTS's role in my musical listening renaissance. Discovering them was part of that, yes, but with them I also discovered multiple generations of Korean and other global artists.
So this weekend I've been concentrating on the music.
Tumblr media
Listening to FACE listening to D-Day and putting together playlists that showcase these two talented guys but also other Korean and Japanese artists with a reminder that musical success isn't all about the numbers.
It's about making that connection with your audience. It's about having one of your songs make it to their forever playlist. It's about having another song make them smile as they sit drinking their latte at the coffee shop after a long bike ride.
We are used to big numbers as ARMY but there are plenty of really talented artists on Spotify that could never dream of the sales or the streaming that is being achieved for members of BTS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our guys are doing fine. They are in the privileged position of being able to do what they love and now, in the solo era, being able to explore their own interests and demonstrate their individuality through the music they produce.
youtube
youtube
Through their musical collaborations and Instagram recommendations they also throw a light on other talented South Korean artists with their own trajectory and extensive musical back catalogue to be explored.
youtube
Balming Tiger, So Yoon, Woosung and The Rose and Silica Gel just to mention a few I've encountered over the last couple of years thanks to different members of BTS.
youtube
And the BTS influence doesn't stop at the South Korean border. Also this weekend, I have been listening to Samara Joy, the American jazz singer that V posted on Instagram. She has an incredible voice. Today I booked tickets to see her at the London Jazz Festival in November.
Finally, it's already the 24th April in South Korea and time to celebrate one year of the release of With You by Jimin and Ha Sung Woon. This was my number one Spotify tune of 2022 and still has pride of place on many of my playlists.
youtube
I'm looking forward to whatever BTS members have next for us while enjoying the smorgasbord of great music we already have at our fingertips.

DJTober 2023: A Monthly Fan Creation Challenge
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introducing, a new Fan Art/Fan Fiction Challenge for the Month of October 2023!
Links: Archive of Our Own and Spotify Playlist.
I always like monthly fanfiction and fan art challenges in certain months that create new work and get the creative flow going. So I decided I wanted to make my own challenge that anyone could join.
Information and Text version of Prompts under the cut:
So what is DJTober? It is a challenge where you can draw or write based on random songs and verses as the daily prompts. I picked the name because it was different and I think Songtober was already taken. You can either post fan art or write fanfic or create a gif or anything that you feel like creating! Will this be a thing? Who knows? Will I make a side blog for this? It depends. Either way, I'm going to try this challenge myself and share it with others.
A couple of things to note:
In order for me to see your work on your platform (either Tumblr or AO3), please use the tags: #DJTober and #DJTober2023.
You can write a one-shot or multiple chapters, one fandom or multiple, and dark/whump/NSFW are allowed as well. Just make sure to tag appropriately and be mindful of triggers/content warnings.
Having said that, I do not allow things like pedophilia or similar in the works. I will immediately remove it and/or take drastic measures if need be.
Your fic can either be inspired by the song itself or by the suggested verse in the picture, or a different lyric of your choice. You can even have someone say the lyric in a quote. Your fic does not have to be a songfic.
You do not have to go in order of the list and you can start as early or late as you want. Just be aware that the collection that is opened now will remain unmoderated until the end of the first week of November.
Without further ado, here are the prompts:

2) All of your time spent keeps us alive. (Larger Than Life by Backstreet Boys)

Happy Holidays ❤️
hello, friendly sam wilson anon! i've missed you, i hope you've been well <3
oh, and merry christmas eve!
sorry this took so long for me to answer--holidays have been much busier than expected!
this is less of a playlist per se than songs that i think sam would enjoy/listen to, or that remind me of him and/or sambucky (+ some explanations why)
this is in no particular order
All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
gotta start with the classics. sam was a teenager in the 90s. he probably would've been all over it when it was released, and now that he's in his 40s he loves it just as much and is extra obnoxious about it bc goddamn it it's christmastime and he can be obnoxious about it. he sings it to bucky first thing on november 1st every year, purposefully missing every high note as atrociously as he can, and bucky, while outwardly grumpy, doesn't think he's ever heard anything so beautiful in his life as sam's off-key scream-singing, laughter laced through every lyric
The Mistletoe Jam (Everybody Kiss Somebody) - Luther Vandross
look, i think sam would be ALL over all of luther vandross's christmas album, but this one is my particular favorite, and i think it'd be sam's too. it's fun, it's sexy, luther's voice is spectacular as always, and i can ABSOLUTELY see sam and bucky getting a little down and dirty to luther crooning "you still got the flavor / and i'm hungry for your love / so i'm gon play this one jam / that'll make you want to kiss somebody" ESPECIALLY when they're a little bit older and just having fun/comfortable with each other
Let It Snow - Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight
once again, sam was a teenaged boy in the 90s. this is absolutely one of his favorites, for the same reasons he likes mistletoe jam. smooth, sexy, romantic, and who doesn't love a bit of boyz ii men tbh
I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
i think this might’ve been one of the songs that sam’s mama and daddy had on vinyl when he was a kid, one they’d swing around the house to after they’d all trimmed the tree and put out the fancy christmas tableware. sam and sarah would both laugh and smile along as they danced through the living room, before they’d get pulled in themselves.
years later, when he and bucky move into their first place together and after they’ve decorated for the holidays, sam pulls out this record and sees if bucky remembers how to swing
Go Tell It On the Mountain - Mahalia Jackson
a VERY different type of christmas song than the ones thus far, but one i think sam loves anyway. if we're mixing in a bit of his comics background, his father was a pastor, and he would've grown up in church. he's probably got a lot of fond memories singing this one around christmas time, maybe even was in the church choir himself, and i know some of my own favorite christmas songs were the ones i grew up singing in church. it probably reminds him of his childhood, so he always has to make sure he hears it at least once every christmas season, whether it's on spotify or at the christmastime service he still goes to for his late mama's sake, even if it's not necessarily an "on repeat" kind of christmas song
I’ll Be Home For Christmas (If Only In My Dreams) - Frank Sinatra
i don’t know if this is necessarily one sam listens to every year, but i do think he’d probably relate to it during certain times of his life. it was written in wwii from the perspective of a soldier overseas, and it probably would’ve hit home for sam both during his tours and during the two years he spent on the run, missing his family but unable to go home. probably would’ve been one steve was singing along to, as well, as he would’ve heard bing crosby’s original version back in 1943, when he was overseas himself. it made for a melancholy christmas, sure, but i think this song probably would’ve been a comfort in some way as well
this is less a playlist and more a christmas song led sam headcanon session lmao, but hopefully it works! thanks for the ask, friendly sam wilson anon, and happy holidays <3

NaNoWriMo 2023: Your Toolkit for Success
*This blog is adapted from a YouTube script. Check out the video version at the end!
It is officially Preptober – the month where we gear up for the biggest writing month of the year: NOVEMBER! As we prepare for National Novel Writing Month, I want to discuss the ultimate toolkit to supercharge your writing process. So let’s get into it and make sure you're armed with everything you need for a successful writing season.
Outlining and Planning
As we are in Preptober, let’s start out with tools for outlining and planning. Personally - I’ll let you know right now, I am super basic with everything. I’ve experimented with various options but in the end I always wind up using a physical notebook and Microsoft Word. But, that may not be for you. If you’re looking for some digital tools which will help with your outlining and preparation process, I’ll point you in the direction of Evernote, Notion, and Asana.
Evernote is your go-to for organized writing. When you sign up you can sync across devices, and explore notes, notebooks, tags, and shortcuts. Notebooks, are like virtual binders, and you can add tags within them for easy searches, making shortcuts for quick access. To get writing all you need to do is click "New Note," add a title, and get creative. But, this is not just a text app! You can enhance notes with media, and if you're stuck, templates are available too. Evernote's search function is very well put together, and you can share your notes with others easily too.
As a multifaceted workspace, Notion consolidates essential elements like character profiles, plot outlines, and research details, eliminating the chaos of multiple open tabs. With embedded integrations and plugins, it integrates seamlessly with tools like Google Drive and Miro, fostering a comprehensive writing environment. You can also capitalize on Notion's flexibility to set goals, develop characters, plot stories, organize research, and track progress. The platform's versatility extends to creating marketing plans, managing drafts, and even storing sudden bursts of inspiration. Utilizing Notion's array of templates enhances efficiency, offering a tailored solution for you to build your literary world.
Lastly, our darkhorse - Asana. Generally this is a project management tool used with coworking teams. But, it’s an amazing tool for writers too! Create a project dedicated to your novel, subdividing it into sections like characters, plot points, and scenes. Each character can be assigned a task, detailing their development arc and key traits. Tasks within the plot points section help outline major events, ensuring a coherent narrative flow. Asana's task dependencies feature aids in establishing the sequence of events. The comments section can then act as a virtual brainstorming hub for collaborative ideas. With due dates and progress tracking, Asana transforms will make your plotting and outlining a very visual process, supporting organization and productivity.
Research and Reference
Now this is definitely going to be different for everyone. For me, I create a lot of fantasy worlds so my research is all over the place. In Synterra, I research the cities my main characters are from before traveling to Synterra, so this involved a fair amount of travel guides and Google Maps. I also researched mythical creatures in those areas to see which may appear to them. No matter what you’re writing you’re likely to have some sort of research worked in there even if it’s just scrolling Pinterest for visuals.
So yes I would absolutely recommend Pinterest. On the official NaNoWriMo website you can even link a Pinterest board associated with your project along with a Spotify playlist, which I find to be a lot of fun!
But if you’re getting more serious with your writing and are really worried about accuracy, Google Scholar is your gateway to academia. I plan to explore this tool quite a bit as I get further into writing Eternity, a series which often features ancient Rome and Egypt.
Honing Your Craft
So ideally during NaNoWriMo, you’re going to be honing your craft. Sure, there is a lot of speed drafting involved but you are still going to be building your creative ability. You’d be surprised at the brilliant sentences that can appear when you’re trying to get that perfect paragraph out in a 15 minute sprint.
If you’d like to buff up on some skill building before November hits, I always recommend -as does the NaNoWriMo organization itself - “Save the Cat” by Blake Snyder. Save the Cat offers a concise and insightful approach to storytelling using methods like the "beat sheet," which provides a structured framework for crafting engaging narratives. Emphasizing character likability and clear story arcs, the book will help you create compelling protagonists and engaging plots. It is really accessible and practical which makes it a great read for any writer no matter what level they’re at.
If you’re looking for grammar assists to help you out as you speed through your 50,000 words Grammarly is of course a great option, acting as your personal editor, catching those pesky grammar and spelling errors. Another option, though one you might want to wait on until the editing phase, is The Hemingway Editor. This web and desktop app steps in to improve your writing's readability by highlighting complex sentences. So, in many cases you’re going to wind up with a smaller word count… which is just not quite the goal during November.
Doing the Thing
When it comes to doing the thing, actually drafting your novel, we should talk about hardware and software. A good laptop tends to be the writer’s primary companion these days, but I’ve had friends who have made an attempt at using a typewriter through November, or even their phone! I could never. But, y’know, different strokes and all that.
If you have trouble with writing on a device that has internet but don’t want to give up your modern keyboard, you can look into the AlphaSmart word processor, FreeWrite e-ink screen and keyboard, or Pomera. And honestly, it can be nice to do some of your writing by hand in a notebook. Personally I find that more emotional scenes that I want to craft with real care come out better when I’m channeling my thoughts through a plain old, basic pen. Though, it can be fun to spice that up with a fountain pen.
No matter what you do choose, the best device is going to be the one that helps you to complete your NaNoWriMo with the least amount of technical stress!
Moving on to software.
Scrivener is really the heavyweight champion of writing software. It's not just a word processor; it's your personal writing command center. This versatile writing software provides robust tools for organization, research, and composition. With it, you can outline, draft, and edit within a single platform, arranging content in a flexible structure. With features like split-screen editing, research file integration, and character as well as plot organization, Scrivener aids in managing complex projects. It also facilitates seamless manuscript formatting and export options, enhancing the overall writing and editing process for novelists, academics, and other content creators.
Heads up however, the license does cost $84.99 Canadian.
So - you can also go with Microsoft Word and Google Docs, which is what I do. These options are straightforward, widely used and can handle all your basic writing and editing needs.
Keeping Yourself Honest
Time is of the essence during NaNoWriMo. Writing 50,000 words in one month and ideally having those 50,000 words tell a complete story from beginning to end, is a big ask. So you’re going to need to keep yourself honest and on schedule if you’re going to get it down. To start off, the NaNoWriMo website itself is something I just love. There’s a section where you can put your word count each day and it updates as you go, letting you know how much you have left to do as well as calculating how many words you will need to write per day to reach your goal.
For when you’re actually in the weeds, Pomodone, a Pomodoro timer app, ensures your writing sprints are focused and productive. The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method based on 25-minute stretches of focused work broken by five-minute breaks. Longer breaks, typically 15 to 30 minutes, are taken after four consecutive work intervals.
Personally, I don’t really work this way unless I am doing sprints with other writers but I know many have found it quite useful to get themselves into work mode. And of course, if you’re looking for a community to sprint with you should join my Discord server where we’ll be sprinting Tuesday nights.
Writing buddies are will be your real secret weapon for motivation.
Protect Your Progress
I have been asked by more than one person what my backup method is. It seems many of us are out there trying to figure out THE ANSWER, but I don’t think there is really one solid answer. Certainly, Drive and Cloud are out there and they are the most obvious answers. Also, external hard drives. But in the end, personally, and from what I gather from others, it all is about your personal level of paranoia.
For me, I had a bad experience with drive once where I was saving the same file for months and then one day - poof - it was gone. I just don’t trust the cloud. And, though I know this is a form of the cloud as well, I do a lot of emailing of my work to myself. It’s a bit messy but somehow it’s comforting for me. Also, I work between a desktop as well as a laptop computer so I need to be able to access the same document on each and… prefer to email back and forth rather than having a cloud document.
Don’t Forget Self Care
Writing can be a solitary journey, but it doesn't have to be. Join the NaNoWriMo website for resources, forums, and writing buddies. Get into Reddit communities like r/writing and r/nanowrimo for advice and support. And don't forget the vibrant writing communities that exist on Discord. As I mentioned, there’s mine - but there are others as well. I’ve never come across one that was not super welcoming, it’s just really about finding the one that feels most like home for you.
Writing is a marathon, not a sprint. Even though we sometimes do sprint. Keep the caffeine or tea flowing for those late-night sessions. Invest in ergonomic furniture for physical comfort during long writing stints. And don't forget to stretch—both your body and your imagination. Your health is just as important as your word count. By getting up and moving around for at least 5-10 minutes every hour, you can improve circulation, reduce muscle stiffness, and lower the risk of chronic health conditions. Try setting a timer on your phone to remember!
Last but not least, I always stress how important it is to celebrate, even small victories. While NaNoWriMo is a project with a very large goal which we all want to “win”, keep in mind that participating in any way is a win. If you can get yourself writing more than you were prior and start building a routine, you’re doing great even if you don’t reach those 50k words or finish the first draft of your novel. You have made a start and that’s important. Be sure to reward yourself and mark milestones. I like to vlog and check in with myself weekly to really acknowledge what I’ve done in the past 7 days and when I wrap up the month I always have a glass of champagne!
Remember, this toolkit is a guide, not a rulebook. Tailor it to fit your unique writing style and needs. NaNoWriMo is all about dedication and discipline, so find the tools that work best for you and let your creativity flow. Happy writing, and I'll see you in the next chapter!

Hey I saw your tags on the "what do you do outside of tumblr" and I was wondering if you have any tips about getting involved in a field like that. Mostly for the same reasons as you I assume--I have many hobbies that I want to pursue outside of a job and I find repetitive, mundane work strangely satisfying. Thanks!
Oh! Um, I've never really thought about it - admin work normally isn't too hard to find, most companies will always need someone to file things and sort the spreadsheets! I guess taking classes on admin stuff is always a good idea, most companies need you to know how to use the Microsoft packages - word, excel, that sort of thing - and it looks good on your CV/resume! Other than that, most job websites will have a list of positions that are near you, you don't want to spend too much time on travel!
Thanks for the ask, I hope you find something good!

My #1 post of 2022
OK, I cannot believe I actually have to say this, but I'm gonna put this out as an official warning:
If you're a TERF, I will block you. I check my follower notifications, and if your blog is full of anti-trans rhetoric, I'm going to quietly hit that block button. Anyone else, I really don't care what's on your blog - kink/fetish blogs are fine, don't panic, I have my own sideblog for that and you're fine to follow here. But if you're a TERF and you try to follow me, don't be shocked if you suddenly can't see my blog anymore. That's all.

7, 24, and 38 for the ask game!
7 : what is your deepest joy about writing?
i guess like just the fact that i can build entire worlds. worlds with new languages, physics, entities, everything. i can completely go off of the rails with worlds and THEN make up a cool-ass main-character lifestyle for a person in that world! i can make people with personalities. i entertain the multiverse theory and i just love thinking about my worlds being real. it's cool!! also like with my own worlds and stuff i don't tell anyone the specifics of these places outside of tumblr/discord and sometimes my worlds are mine. i can see a fucking rollercoaster and imagine it in tiny workers! i can see a bag of wilbur chocolate and smile to myself knowing that almost 100 people have read what i had to say about this bag of chocolate. it's cool as hell!!! also the same thing will apply to songs, i can listen to a song after having made a new wip and go "holy shit, this reminds me of ___!"
ALSO another joy is adding personal easter eggs. (usually; if i can remember) every 1970'th word of my fic, i'll add a word referring to ff1970 because i am soo attached to fics i hate. also my phone password is 8866273 (oops) because spell that out with letters and it's tumoasd (another fic i hate but am attached to dearly)! i am soo attached to lil easter eggs that i and only a few other people can get.
OHHH and another one! this is kinda just for fanfic (as if i write anything else) but i love connecting things to the thing i'm writing for. my absolute FAVORITE one is SO SO SO cool like i will never let myself forget how cool it is is soot house. i won't go into detail about the fic cause yeah but lvjy's song one day fits SO WELL with it. "one day i know that you will be there, one day i'll focus on the future" is one that fits with sh!wilbur, but that's not the cool one at ALL
soot house is a hill house/bly manor au and a certain lil event happens on november 16th 1852 (year was COMPLETELY random) AND AND that happens to be on a TUESDAY. in one day, there's the line "'cause all i want to do is turn back time, at least a couple tuesdays, to before i found one life turn two" WHICH WAS COMPLETELY RANDOM I DID NOT SET THAT UP IN THE SLIGHTEST, IT JUST KINDA FELL INTO PLACE! and it's so cool bc in the fic wil is immortal and the line (while i know that's def not their intended purpose of that line) "before i found one life turn two" KINDAA FITS THAT bc that was the day he went immortal" and to think wil sung that song and he's the main character of soot house and idk it's soo cool how that fell into place bc 1852 was COMPLETELY random. ANYWAYS sorry to ramble like that QASJDGFSD
24 : how much prep work do you put into your stories? what does that look like for you? do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
hhh well that depends on the story! i mean look at tiny workers with DAYS of worldbuilding, then soot house which i've never touched an outline for but still have 10k for. it's all really random. but usually planning will all be mental. if it's a larger fic i'll make a pinterest board for it and OCCASIONALLY a playlist. but usually it's just a mental outline, bc if i ever try to write anything down i put it down and try again soo many times with a different approach,,, it's a very messy process sometimes. i do like worldbuilding, it's really fun! but i think unless someone is making me do something specific with specific questions they want me to answer i just can't do anything asdjfh
38 : what is something about your writing process YOU think is really weird? if you are comfortable, please share. if you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
hm. i really don't know, i'd have to think about it! i'd say i'm still a pretty noob writer so i don't have a cool unique writing process. butttt if i had to say, maybe the fact that it's so open? that's not necessarily weird in any way but sometimes i just feel like opening a doc on my phone and writing lil words on the way home or when no one is looking. other days i will get all cozied up and make my environment all aesthetic and shit lol (but when i do that i usually cave and just watch netflix or youtube lol)
ask game !!

Kevin Magnussen and father Jan to compete in Gulf 12 Hours endurance race
Haas F1 driver Kevin Magnussen will share a car with his father Jan for the Gulf 12 Hours at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue Yas Marina Circuit from December 9-11. Magnussen tested for Porsche's World Endurance Championship outfit before making his F1 race return with Renault in 2016, with the Danish driver taking part in the US IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2021. He was set to race for Peugeot in the 2022 World Endurance Championship before making a surprise return to Formula 1 with Haas. F1 TRACKS: Magnussen, Schumacher and Steiner pick the tunes as Haas take over the playlist for the US GP Kevin's father Jan Magnussen made 24 Formula 1 starts in the mid-1990s but found more success in sports car racing, taking four class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans plus one class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The father-son duo finished 29th overall in the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans and on December 9-11 they will share a Ferrari 488 GT3 run by MDK Motorsports in the Gulf 12 Hours endurance race at Yas Marina, which hosts the F1 season-closer on November 18-20. A Ferrari 488 GT3 in action at the 2022 Gulf 12 Hours "MDK Motorsports is driven by passionate and professional racers, and I enjoy working with these guys," Kevin Magnussen told Danish outlet Drive It. "I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together. Of course, I’m also extremely grateful to be given another chance of driving together with my father – and hopefully even trying to win a race." READ MORE: Haas to field Fittipaldi in Mexico and Abu Dhabi FP1 sessions Jan added: "I can’t imagine a better way to round off the season! Huge thanks to MDK Motorsports for setting up this programme and putting Kevin and me in the same car again. "I had the chance of driving the Ferrari 488 at Le Mans in 2020, and it’s a very proper race car. Combine that with an experienced team and three drivers that really want to race, and let’s see what we can do. I’m sure it’s going to be fun!" via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

what song makes you feel better?
10. what’s something you’re excited for?
I've got a playlist dedicated to songs to listen to when I am feeling depressed or simply in a (very) bad mood. Lately I'm feeling very connected to my first language so I chose a German song for this question:
Kapelle Petra - An irgendeinem Tag wird die Welt untergehen (here on Youtube - one english curse word is part of the lyrics).
Basically this song tells you someday the world will end but every other day it won't happen. It's very helpful when I get lost and spiral in catastrophic thinking which I'm prone to do.
I do wanna name a second song: Die Ärzte - Himmelblau (here on Youtube - this is part of a live concert from Rock am Ring so there are blinking lights).
I heard this song immediately after I getting my new job which meant leaving my abusive ex boss. So in that moment it became a very meaningful song that shuffle put on for me. I didn't had that connection when I heard it live (saw that band a few times, they're very fun and reflect their ways.)
To sum it up: The sky is blue, the world is yours, the rest of your life starts now and it's gonna be amazing.
10. I'm excited for the new notebook that should arrive tomorrow because then I can start planing and designing next year's witchy practice. Although I'm wondering if I should start my witch year on November 1st instead of January 1st.
Thanks for asking!

Bria and Rob were in his small one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. He had everything that needed to be packed and laid out on his bed. She watched him as he went through everything again. He was missing something, but he couldn’t remember what it was. Chester repellent? No, he had his headphones to tune him out. She encouraged him to take a break. Maybe it would come back to him. That was a good idea. He was hungry anyway.
The previous night, they hooked up at her place after going out to dinner. It felt like a real date. He was attracted to her, but he didn’t want to start something when he would be leaving for a month. That didn’t seem fair to her.
He would be back after their last show in Castle Donington, England on June fourteenth. That didn’t seem that long, but he would leave it up to her if she wanted to wait for him or not. She jokingly asked him where he was going to sleep since everything was on his bed. His shoulders fell since he hadn’t thought about that. He would just have to come back to her place again.
He grabbed a change of clothes and put it into an overnight bag. After grabbing everything, he followed her out to her car. She would have to give him a ride in the morning but they could figure that out later. For now, their focus was on food. He put his bag in the back before getting into the front with her. As they drove around looking for somewhere to eat, he brought up how they were going to be in Paris on November 16.
“You are? Oh my god! I’m going to have to fly out and see you guys!”
“Good. You can help us with our French. We will be doing fifteen shows with Of Mice and Men.”
“I know who that band is because I’ve heard them on Spotify, but I can’t remember any of their songs. I’ll probably recognize them when I hear it.”
Since it was illegal to use her phone while driving, he went to her app and found a song he thought she would recognize. She knew what it was by the opening chords. He went through to see what else she was listening to. It was a lot of indie with some Taylor Swift and Linkin Park. It was an interesting mix of music. He thought she would be into rock. She pretty much liked anything. That playlist was incomplete because she was still working on it.
They decided to eat at a restaurant that had vegan options. Mike was also getting ready to go back on tour. Ken was there with him helping him go through his list. He was forgetting something. Take a break. He had been packing for over an hour. They still had a week before he left. He was right. Ken pulled him downstairs and into the kitchen. He told him to sit while he made dinner.
“You will not step foot back upstairs until you’ve eaten”, he commended.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. You get too focused sometimes and you need someone to pull you out.”
That was very true. He had a hard time letting go because he liked to finish something before starting a new project. It caused him to get frustrated and stressed out. As a child, he cried out of frustration because he was so tired. His mind couldn’t focus anymore but he wouldn’t feel accomplished until he finished what he started.
“Mike, it will be there tomorrow. It’s not going anywhere. Come back to it when you’re rested”, his mother told him.
He did. The solution he had been looking for was right there in front of him. His brain just needed to rest. As an adult, he had to remind himself to walk away for a while when he got frustrated or stressed out. While making dinner, he got up. Ken made sure he wasn’t going back upstairs to continue working. He laughed and told him he was going to the bathroom.
What am I going to do with you? He laughed. After coming back out a few minutes later, he sat down again. Bria and Rob were having fun talking and laughing. They each ordered a ramen. It was inexpensive, so he got the bill. They talked about dating when he got back in June. She was interested in that because she liked him. He liked her, too. What was she going to do while he was gone? She was thinking about adopting a kitten, but she had to ask Manuela about it. Why?
She just thought it was fair because she was her cleaner and she would likely have to work around it. How often did she clean her house? Just once a week. She was paid by her father’s estate. Her husband worked for BMW as an auto mechanic. They had two grown children, who also worked. She gave them extra money or gifts, like a handbag, clothes or wine.
She was also thinking about going to New York for a couple of weeks. They were supposed to spend a certain amount of time there. Otherwise, it would be considered abandoned property and could be listed. She was working with her assistant, Nicole about what she was going to keep and sell as far as her father’s things. It had taken six months before she could finally have her name on everything because it had to go through the court first.
“Probate law is tricky. There’s a lot of legal stuff.”
“What do you have? I’m just curious.”
“We have an apartment in the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, an apartment in Paris, a private jet, cars, and the house I’m living in. All of that had to go through the probate court. I can do whatever I want with all of it. I’m sounding like a rich brat. I’m sorry.”
“No, you’re not. That kind of life seems interesting to me. It’s something you can only dream of.”
“You don’t drink. Otherwise, I would give you a bottle of wine.”
Nope, he didn’t. The offer sounded very tempting, though. After eating, he paid the bill. They then went back to her place. She gave him a grand tour. He liked the high ceilings. As a guy who was over six feet tall, he appreciated not worrying about hitting his head. He took her hand when they got to the indoor pool. They took their clothes off before jumping in. She swam over to him. He pulled her in and kissed her. This was possibly the most daring thing they had ever done.
He did it impulsively but he didn’t regret it. They backed up to the wall. He opened her legs before coming in between them. Mike and Ken were back upstairs. His stomach was full and his mind was clear. He figured out what he was forgetting. Headphones and a book. He felt accomplished! Now, he was ready. Was that worth stressing over? He laughed and admitted it wasn’t.
Ken came up behind him and kissed his cheek, making him laugh again. He put everything on the floor, so they could use the bed. Ken felt his phone vibrate, so he took it out. He excused himself because it was one of his kids. Rob finished inside her. He kissed her again before she swam away.
After a while, they got out. She found two towels for them. They dried off before getting dressed and heading back out to the living room. The towels were thrown in the laundry basket to be washed. He was falling in love every second he was with her. It was going to be hard leaving her, but he knew that she would be there when he got back.

Sunday, November 27 —  9 to 5: What does your character’s work/school day look like? Include 7 tasks that they have to complete throughout the day!
ICE QUEEN SIDEWORK CHECKLIST (aka: What to Do If You Don’t Know What To Do!!!!)
Created by Anna Sommers, Day Shift Lead :)
Check if toppings, ice cream cartons, the soft serve machine, and the soda cooler need to be refilled! The night shift is SUPPOSED to fill these before they leave… but tbh I get it things get crazy no worries :) Move all the old stuff to the front and put new stuff in the back
To refill ice cream, SEE HANDBOOK PAGE 5. Do not wait until a carton is totally empty before refilling it, but don’t toss out perfectly good ice cream either!!!!
Btw I like to make a cute lil design on top of the ice cream when I refill it I think it’s fun :) And maybe it makes people want to tip more!!
Redo the specials board! I like to draw a little picture with it too. You can pick a special from the back of the handbook, or you can make one up with what we have in!!
Icing— this isn’t everyone’s favorite task, but I actually find it really satisfying? Basically, this is when you take all of the ice cream out of the display case, put it in the back freezer, and then use one of the spade tools to chip away all of the ice that has built up around the sides of the case. I like to try and do this at least once a week, because it looks nice that way! Also no one likes ice falling into their ice cream so this isn’t just for looks!!
Mop, wipe down surfaces, sweep, polish the display windows, etc— the boring one tbh. But still important!!! Just put on some music and feel free to sing along and you’ll be fine!
Practice your scoops. No offense. EVERYONE could use the practice!!! (And if you make a particularly gorgeous one, take a picture for the Instagram! Oh on that note maybe make some TikToks)
Make waffle cones! See handbook page 6 for how to do that. This is another task that’s super repetitive so you can kind of zone out and just listen to the music. Side note but it is not as hard as it seems, I used to be someone who set off my dorm fire alarm because I burned waffles and now I make these perfect every time.
Honestly... jam out! If no one’s in, I think that having fun at work is super important, so queue up some good songs on the playlist and let loose a little. Customers like happy people!!!
Okay that’s all I got for now!! Have a good shift and let me know if you have any questions!!!

Who's The Daddy: Soothing tunes for the dog as money goes up in smoke
New Post has been published on https://petnews2day.com/pet-news/dog-news/whos-the-daddy-soothing-tunes-for-the-dog-as-money-goes-up-in-smoke/
Who's The Daddy: Soothing tunes for the dog as money goes up in smoke
Our Saturday night was spent with our panting, terrified sighthound under a mound of blankets after he nipped outside for a wee at dusk just as a rocket flew 50ft overhead and exploded like an artillery shell.
You know that phrase “like a dog out of a trap”?, well I’ve seen Walter in full flight chasing after squirrels many a time but he’s never moved as quick as that in his life.
After that, fireworks went off over our roof every three seconds all night and poor old Walter looked terrified. Whale-eyed, shaking and panting like he’d been sprinting for 20 minutes with his sighthound buddies.
Dogs gets frightened on bonfire night
So we did what thousands of dog owners do on Bonfire Night and tuned into Classic FM’s Pet Classics with Charlotte Hawkins, played through an amplifier so powerful you’d have to rein it in a bit on the main stage at Glastonbury.
Hours of soothing classical music designed to get your pet’s heart rate down to below that of a hummingbird. And you know what? It worked.
Right up until the point Charlotte signed off for the night and David Mellor took over. Walt wasn’t so keen on his musical taste so we switched to the generic Soothing Classical Music playlist on Spotify.
To steal a joke from Chris Rock and adapt it for my own ends; I wouldn’t ban fireworks, I’d just make them £5,000 each. That’d put a stop to it.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it just lasted for a few hours on one night, but people let these things off two weeks either side of November 5 and it’s becoming a massive pain in the hole. Our pets are nervous wrecks in this month-long festival of literally setting fire to money in this country’s worst cost-of-living crisis in living memory.
And as for people who video firework displays on their mobile phones, don’t get me started. We could be here all night. Just ask yourself, when are you ever going to watch it again, as it clogs up valuable chunks of your phone’s memory? OK, I’ll admit, sparklers can be fun, right up to the point when you run out of dirty words to write in the air. After that, you’re just standing around in the cold waving a burning stick about.Anyway soon be Christmas. Ooh, I’ve just gone all woozy after writing that.

Sunday, November 6 — Soundtrack to Your Life: Create a playlist that reflects a significant story moment for your character (a past thread, a childhood memory, etc). 10 songs with descriptions.
One Step Closer - The Soundtrack of the build up, and aftermath of Hercules moving to Swynlake, told through conversations Hercules overheard. [Listen Here]
A warning in advance I make NO apology for the complete lack of genre or cohesion we’re doing lyric vibes fam.
Trigger Warnings: References to bullying, and depression.
1. Aretha, Rumer
I got Aretha in the morning High on my headphones and walking to school I got the blues in springtime 'cause I know that I'll never have the right shoes Momma she'd notice but she's always crying I got no one to confide in, Aretha nobody but you
“Kssssht. Why does Kouros never take those stupid headphones off?” “Probably ‘cause he’s not got any actual friends to talk to?” “Jesus he’s pathetic.”
2. One Step Closer, Linkin Park
I cannot take this anymore I'm saying everything I've said before All these words they make no sense
...
Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break
“Oi Kouros are you ignooooooring me? Why you being so fucking rude Dorkules?” “Well maybe he just can’t understand it when normal people talk, yeah, with all his special Maaaaaaaaagic.” “Or he’s just fucking stupid.” “Yeah probably that one, he’s thick as shit.”
3. The Mess I Made, Parachute
But oh, I'm staring at the mess I made I'm staring at the mess I made I'm staring at the mess I made As you turn, you take your heart and walk away
“I’m sorry Mrs Kouros but you should have seen the state of the science lab. It was downright dangerous to the other students!” “Our son is not dangerous! He’s being bullied!” “Regardless, his reaction was simply not appropriate!”
4. CORALINE, Maneskin
And Coraline cries, Coraline is anxious, Coraline wants the sea but she’s afraid of the water, And maybe sea is inside her, And every word is an axe, a wound on the back, Like a raft sailing on a swollen river, And maybe the river is inside her, inside her
“Violent. Violent! That’s what they’re calling out son, Tasso! They think he’s dangerous.” “I know, I know.” “He’s not dangerous! He’s our son!”
5. Uncomfortably Slow, Newton Faulkner
So, don't take my photograph 'Cause I don't wanna know How it looks to feel like this
As cars and people pass It feels like standing still but I know I'm just moving uncomfortably slow, yeah, slow
“’Erco, you’re sure you don’t want to see any of your friends before we move? Sweetheart?”
“He says he doesn’t want to see anyone... he just keeps staring at the wall. I don’t like it.”
6. Morning Elvis, Florence & The Machine
If I make it to the morning I should've come with a warning And if I make it to the stage I'll show you what it means to be sad
Oh, you know I'm still afraid I'm still crazy and I'm still scared
“Ok, well can you pop these boxes in your room, ‘Erco. I have to get to work on time, ok?”
“New neighbour. Nice lady, got a son too, quiet kid though, haven’t heard him say a word yet actually.”
7. This is on me, Ben Abraham & Sara Bareilles
How a silence can be so deceiving And so we've begun the crawl trying to break the fall Some kind of wrecking ball we turned out to be This is on me Caught at the ending and all I have is the hurt
“I miss you too Tasso my darling. But it’s nearly the holidays, and we can come home for a week, can’t we. That’ll be fun, right Hercules?”
“He hasn’t made any friends you know... not a single one. I don’t know if we did the right thing... well I know we didn’t really have a choice but...”
8. Numb, Linkin Park
Feeling so faithless, lost under the surface Don't know what you're expecting of me Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
Every step that I take is another mistake to you I've become so numb I can't feel you there Become so tired
“Mrs Kouros, hi. We were wondering if we could have a word about Hercules actually... yeah, it just doesn’t really seem like he’s settled very well. Has he talked to you about anything?”
“I... I know. He never - I’m sorry - he never even smiles at home any more. I don’t know what to do.”
9. I Need Something to Believe in, Newton Faulkner
I need something to believe in 'Cause I don't believe in myself And I'm sick and tired of getting nowhere Guess it'll all work out
And I don't mind anymore And I don't mind anymore
And I need someone to put my trust in 'Cause I ain't trusting myself I'm scared of failure, so scared of success I guess, it'll all work out
“Maybe he just needs something else? You know? Right now he’s trapped in his head, maybe doing something instead of just sitting around being miserable would help?”
“It’s like he’s not even our son anymore, Tasso. I know he was always struggled a bit with people but...”
10. Proud of Your Boy, Adam Jacobs
I've wasted time I've wasted me So say I'm slow for my age A late bloomer, okay, I agree
That I've been one rotten kid Some son, some pride and some joy But I'll get over these lousin' up Messin' up, screwin' up times
You'll see, ma, now comes the better part Someone's gonna make good cross his stupid heart Make good and finally make you Proud of your boy
“I think, I think actually he’s really enjoying this athletics stuff? And did you know he’s looking for jobs?”
