#the sylki-versus-the-grandmaster fic that i started in february has just passed 5000 words HOW THE FUCK????#this is the 'oh it's too fucked up to actually finish' thing that i add a bit to whenever things are getting too wholesome elsewhere#and it's not even THAT fucked up aside from the erm constant threat of death and the very-very-dubcon stuff#i started out with the thought 'actually i don't think sylvie would do at all well on sakaar she's too blunt and no good at flattery'#don't ask me how this logically leads to increasingly disturbing frostmaster dubcon it just does okay#but it seems like this might be something i could actually finish now which is maybe good as it's had a title for several months already#(“Love Is A Danger Of A Different Kind” if you were wondering which you probably weren't especially)#it's not effed-up enough to be posted Anon but it might be effed-up enough that nobody's going to want to click on it if posted#or maybe i should just tell myself that last part in case it's actually terrible and i just haven't realised that yet#but that cannot be as the first line is “So why haven’t you two fucked yet?” which is definitely a 100% solid classic opener right there!!!#i think the grandmaster might be the actual worst person from the thor movies he has no sympathetic story he's just a massive bastard#that's why i keep putting him in things. last year's sylki dubcon fic would have floundered without him!#i wouldn't say grandmaster/loki is something i 'ship' as such - it's more something i stare at in horrified fascination#so anywho i just wanted to share my shock that it's somehow got to that many words#i have no idea how long the finished fic would/will be other than 'longer than it perhaps should be'

i saw a post that explained well why i hate this: deku's outlook is now like kacchan's at the beginning. whereas before he saw people like kacchan, aizawa & shoto as heroes, strong & admirable, now he looks down on them (regardless of intent), invalidates their decision to participate and only sees them as useless and bloody. now kacchan's the kid throwing a notebook at a villain and deku's the one dismissing him (see: kacchan's sacrifice). i guess the speech from post-ground beta 2 is forgotten
also like seriously fuck the narrative, fuck all might and tbh fuck deku too lol kacchan kept their stupid fucking useless secret, helped deku train for months on end while knowing deku getting stronger and dominating 7 entire effing quirks inevitably meant kacchan never would even have the slightest chance to accomplish any of his dreams, worried his mind off about deku (all might knows, not like he gives a fuck), mounted strategies to prevent deku from battling alone, sacrificed himself (cont)
(contd) got out of his literal coma bed marching to see deku while still bleeding from the mouth, was dismissed by everyone, and still nothing at all. his hero name reveal was treated like a fucking joke, his sacrifice amounted to nothing by the stellar narrative, he was off paneled for literally anything that wasn't a stupid gag, and now he's thrown aside like garbage. hero name after all might: all might doesn't care. all might in the room hearing the ruckus: doesn't care, but ida & co (cont)
(contd) can see him. spent months helping deku & all might figure out the ofa stuff, with the most productive contributions: no one cares. so to have not only deku dismiss him like this (he's now a useless victim, not a hero who decides to collaborate, help, and save), but also all might, who kacchan also did all of this for, and who told them THEY, TOGETHER, would be the best winning to save and whatever, so sucks. all might no longer has any use for bakugo, so he's ignored and thrown aside.
(last ask abt this i swear) & ALL OF THIS comes after kacchan's plot has been reduced to absolutetely nothing but deku to the point he has spent literal years of this manga without even interacting with kiri or kami. at least have kiri in his room when he woke up but nope, not even that, kiri's with shoto for some reason bc we have to make a gag out of kacchan's worry and he can't have meaningful interactions. no battles, no wins, no friends. just a side char in the ofa plot, now not even that
anon, no offense (because you seem polite enough in spite of this ask getting rather heated), but I disagree with literally every single point in this ask. literally every last one. this is basically all of my least favorite discourse bundled into a single post. I don't particularly enjoy reading "fuck All Might and Deku" in my inbox first thing in the morning, and I don't like reading paragraphs of hyperbolic negativity about Kacchan being shortchanged because the story doesn't revolve around him every single moment, and we haven't yet -- yet, because the story is still very much ongoing -- gotten to the narrative payoff for things like his hero name and his reunion with Deku. these are opinions you're more than welcome to post about on your own blog, anon. but to be frank, I'm not keen on spending a ton of mental energy trying to change your mind on my own blog when I'd much rather be discussing other things about the chapter and about the series. so yeah, my apologies, but I'm just going to leave it at that.
---
ETA: as promised anon, here are links to my other posts about the various topics you brought up:
re: Deku’s current mindset (tl;dr he’s traumatized by what happened at Jakku and him pushing everyone else away because he’s afraid of them getting hurt is totally expected)
more on said mindset and what drives it, and the parallels between him and Kacchan (and why Kacchan is inevitably going to be the one to knock some sense back into him)
meta on Deku’s role as a MC and how that affects his characterization (by design, for better or for worse)
and a couple of add-ons to that meta
meta re: All Might keeping OFA a secret
and another post about that
and another!! this is why I don’t want to talk about it any more lol
meta re: the meaning of Kacchan’s new hero name (which btw All Might hasn’t even heard yet, and which I suspect has more to do with Deku anyway)
and lastly, re: fandom needing to chill and be patient when it comes to Kacchan and Deku’s storyline
a big part of my reluctance to wade into these discourse waters again is because I would probably just be reiterating stuff I’ve already said in previous posts. but anyway so here you go if you or anyone else is interested.

So not to add more to your workload or prompts, but I had sent in a thought about Will telling Henry and Charlotte about his curse post CP1. Has anyone pictured how that conversation with Sophie went down too? Like did Will tell her, or did Charlotte??
Hello lovely Anon! I always picture Will telling everybody at once, except for Charlotte, Henry, Tessa and Jem, who I feel like he told individually. So, I wrote an “apology” fic of some sorts. I hope you enjoy!!
Sophie let out an agitated sigh as the mop clattered to the floor. She was trying to balance everything in her arms while making her way to the stairwell and avoid Gideon, all as the same time, and it was resulting quite disastrous for her.
Sophie adjusted her grip on the bucket handle so that she wouldn’t spill the water everywhere. Just as she went to pick up the mop when she heard someone call her name.
“Sophie! Wait!”
She froze. When she turned, she saw Will racing towards her. Before, she probably would have quickly picked up the mop and scurried away, but after finding out about Will’s curse, she felt a little bit of sympathy towards him and decided to stay.
“Here, let me help you.” He said, picking up the mop once he was by her side.
“Much obliged.” Sophie said, reaching out a couple of fingers (she was holding the feather duster in between her thumb and forefinger, so she could only really spare her middle, ring and pinky fingers) to grab the mop.
Will looked at her extended hand, but made no move to give her the mop. Finally, he said, “I’ll carrying it for you.”
“You don’t have to do that.” Sophie said.
“Nonsense, your hands are full,” Will pointed out, “and mine, as you can see, are empty. Besides, I wanted to talk with you.”
Sophie didn’t know what to say, but she most certainly knew that if she wasn’t stopping every five seconds to pick up that damned mop, she could avoid bumping into Gideon in the hall, and having to see him look at her as she struggled to carry all of the cleaning supplies. Sophie would rather that didn’t happen, so she let Will carry the mop.
They walked in awkward silence before Will said, “look, Sophie, I want to apolo-“
“You don’t need to do that,” Sophie interrupted. “I know that your curse forced you to be cruel and-“
“Regardless, what I said hurt you, and the things I did made your life here much harder than it should have been.”
“It wasn’t that bad, Will, truly.”
“Soph,” he said. “You are the strongest person I know.”
“Oh lord, Will, I really don’t need a speech about how wonderful you think I am. The fact that you wanted me to hate you because you cared enough about me that you wanted me to live is enough for me to forgive you.”
Will looked at her, “are you positive that you’re not just saying that because you want me to leave?”
Sophie rolled her eyes, “of course not, Will. I thought you knew me better than that. I deal with people by ignoring them, not filling them with false hopes.”
Will smiled at that.
“Be thankful that you didn’t treat me well, because then I really would have been mad.” Sophie said.
Will chuckled. “Lucky me.”
Sophie looked ahead for a while as they walked before looking up at Will.
“Are you alright?” She asked.
“What do you mean?”
“I just thought it might be hard. To had to have treated everyone badly because of a curse only realize there was no curse at all.”
Will looked down.
“Oh no, I didn’t mean to make it worse.” Sophie said, her cheeks reddening. “I only meant to-“
“Thank you.” Will said. “For asking.”
When he looked at her, his eyes were watery. Sophie was taken aback. She put her bucket and duster down and put a hand on Will’s shoulder.
“Of course.” She said, “I’m just sorry you had to suffer that way. Bad things happen to good people.”
Will’s gaze traveled to her scar. “Yes. They do.”
Sophie looked away and busied herself by attending to her work.
“You can leave the mop by the door.” She said.
Will looked at it. “Oh, alright then.”
Before he could leave she blurted out, “thank you. For helping me, that is. It would have taken me twice as much time, if not for you.”
“I’m glad to help, Soph.”
And with that he left. Sophie spent a good time looking at his retreating figure before turning back to her work. She felt pity for Will, but she knew that only time could heal his pain. At least the conversation made her forget about Gideon.
Sophie shook her head at the thought, and with it, the tears that were just beginning to form. Only time can heal pain.

PINNED POST: Rough CHANLIX Timeline Theory
Hello! This is for an Anon Asks and someone who DM'ed asking my thoughts on when CHANLIX started. Mine is a theory and not fact and it's very rough. It's better to just show you through the videos I've been posting, but that's going to take me maybe MONTHS to wrap up chronologically if I don't get carpal tunnel syndrome first lol. So here goes:
(rough) CHANLIX TIMELINE THEORY
Before Q4 2019: My gay eyes spied and said that Felix always had an unrequited crush on Chan; I honestly thought Chan was straight at one point because of all the "bros" he kept throwing and that he was always around Felix's side because he could explain variety show stuff to him and other Korean culture and language stuff; I soon realized that they have such close proximity a lot of times on-camera compared to the other members and had the odd hand touching now-and-then that I stuck around because once I observed more straight K-Pop boy group behaviors, once I went back to Chanlix, I saw that this unrequited crush might not be so unrequited and this instance of Korean brotherhood skinship blurred the lines of same-sex romantic intentions.
Q4 2019 - Q2 2020: Romantic feelings and intentions emerge in full force especially from Chan; huge increase in physical affection and proximity; possibly waiting out for dating ban to end?; hard to say what type of relationship they have at this point; they have a of screen time together on SKZ Talker; members grow increasingly suspicious.
Q3 2020 - Q4 2020: All members know of Chanlix's intentions; relationship evolved before "All In" era; still have plenty of moments on-camera including on SKZ Talker; Chan reacts and says a lot of things that raised my gay alarm bells; I think they bit the bullet and quietly dated?
Q1 2021: Dating ban ends; they hold hands during K-Contact 4U that was meant to acknowledge Hyunjin's part during his hiatus, but they might have done it for themselves too; huge drop as an on-camera pairing; physically separate on-camera; they try so hard to put up a facade that they aren't dating that they come off looking like they don't even acknowledge or even know each other anymore on-camera; they were definitely an item during Kingdom filming.
Q2 2021: 100% confidence of their relationship status reached; huge drop of SKZ Talker screen time together; Felix doesn't realize he's so nervous now in regards to Chan; they stop doing the official group formation unless it's a red carpet or concert stage where Chan and Felix are no longer side-by-side (official group formation from Left to Right is: Lee Know, Han, I.N., Felix, Bang Chan, Hyunjin, Seungmin, Changbin).
Q3 2021: Orange-haired Chan era had the most obvious signs of body language love; K-Contact Hi5 had damning evidence where for a few seconds, Felix signaled Chan to stop embracing him before they played the next song not realizing they were briefly caught by a fancam angle; another Hi5 moment was released months later where the editor effed up the audio track on purpose but if you alter it again, Chan says "Baby, look--" or "Baby, look look" or "Baby, look at me" which they didn't think the cameras would be rolling and would make it part of the behind-the-scenes; huge drop again in SKZ Talker screen time together; during the time where Felix's famous TikTok exploded, they were promoting "The View" where Felix looked effing terrified to give Chan any eye contact in ANY of the performances; this is also the time where management got really scared that they were trending.
Q4 2021: Even though they're no longer living in the same complex, it stands to reason that they visit each other's bedrooms a lot; Chan and Felix weren't really allowed to be side-by-side anymore on-camera unless Chan interferes; I have enough footage though that shows that they're constantly side-by-side backstage in portions where they don't think they're being filmed; another huge drop of SKZ Talker screen time together; Chan literally makes his New Year's Eve post about Chanlix.
2022 and the future: they weren't roommates, but there's fan videos of Chanlix in the wild sitting or standing before performances or just by themselves during their Middle East stop; Chan showed his bedroom and it's literally empty besides the photo of Chanlix he posted on New Year's Eve even though he's lived there for months now; Chan seems ready to burst and declare his love for Felix, and I'm optimistic that Felix will come to an understanding that love is the core value you should hold onto besides thinking what their love can do to hurt maximizing earnings potential worldwide and Stray Kids' image. The people who scandalize same-sex relationships are not STAYs. I just hope one day they stop fearing something so many couples take for granted like holding hands in public.
Again, it's just my own timeline theory from observations. The one thing I will bet my life on is that they're 100% a real couple. No margins of error there. Thanks for stopping by!

I was thinking of how much work and effort you've poured into FFS and how you've had burnout and health issues since you've been writing it, and then I thought about how horrible Ef would feel knowing someone was experiencing all of that while trying to write his story and then I just felt really sad and protective of both of you.
I hope you're taking care of yourself. <3
I mean, I don't really like to think of it that way, because I get enough guilt from myself (and sometimes other people irl) and I don't want to feel guilty imagining what a fictional character feels re: how I live my life. And 'this person feels terrible about how you're treating yourself so maybe just don't treat yourself that bad so they don't feel terrible anymore' is like very much guilt-tripping. So you don't need to think about it that way anon!
Efnisien can't feel terrible about it, because he's a fictional construct, and I created this version of him mostly to help me get through the pandemic, and the story has very much succeeded at that, and I've talked about that a lot! :)
But quite aside from that - I've had burnout and health issues since I started writing. In fact, I started writing Falling Falling Stars as a way of coping with an even more severe burnout caused by The Ice Plague. It literally came into being as a comfort and catharsis fic for my own self-interest. I didn't really expect anyone to read it, except for like two people, my beta - who loves Efnisien - and...actually my beta lol.
I've always been very honest about being an ill writer. Chronically ill both in terms of mental illness and physical illness. That didn't start with Falling Falling Stars, and you may have missed it before, especially if you only came in to start reading re: the last year or so, but it's like... I have a big track record being very honest about everything from chronic suicidality, to cancer treatments, to burnout due to working too hard and seeing a therapist about it. I've taken long Patreon hiatuses, I didn't work on The Golden Age that Never Was for 8 months, like, me being burnt out, or exhausted, or sick, did not start with Falling Falling Stars.
It's one of the main reasons I write, because if I was healthier, I would have ended up in a different career choice. I write a lot of trauma recovery because I live a lot of trauma recovery. I tend to write characters who aren't actually going through as much as I am, because it starts to become one of those 'that seems unrealistic, no one is dealing with ALL of that stuff at the same time.' But some of us are.
Falling Falling Stars has been an incredibly helpful process for me, even though I've been sick and burnt out at times while writing it. And I've talked a fair bit about that too (maybe you've missed those posts, or maybe it's just easier to focus on the burnout ones). But here's a whole thread about it that I posted on Twitter. There's like 6 listed reasons in that thread re: how Falling Falling Stars has helped me so much, so I think reading that might help. :)
But even if Falling Falling Stars was really hard to write, and was causing more burnout, etc. I don't think imagining my characters feeling really awful about it, or thinking that they feel terrible on my behalf, is a very motivational thing for me to think about. I already have people in real life that wish I didn't push myself too hard, and you know what I do when I feel guilty? Hate myself. Try to hide my problems from them. And conceal the truth from others. You know what it doesn't do? Magically fix the fact that I work too hard to cope with incredible levels of incurable 24/7 pain, fatigue, PTSD and illness. I really really don't need to create more of that in my own head, y'know? Guilt might seem motivational, but it's not really that motivational.
I'm super happy that Efnisien doesn't feel terrible about how I live my life because he's just a character, and he doesn't feel anything about me at all. He doesn't even know I exist. Writing stories is a place I can go to not experience extra guilt and the difficulties of interacting with real people who might go: 'You know I feel awful that you treat yourself this way' and make my problems about themselves, and make me feel responsible for something that isn't actually my issue at the end of the day. (If they feel that bad about it, probably they need to either not be my friend, or see someone about how to cope with their own helplessness, because if other people truly thought that kind of thinking would fix me, I'd be fixed). I know you mean well anon, it might even be a way of thinking that really helps you! And if it does, I'm really glad that it does.
But I'm not looking to feel guiltier about being a sick person who engages in unhealthy behaviours sometimes to cope with being a sick person. And I love Falling Falling Stars, and I've already cut back on how much I was writing it compared to this time last year. (Which I've also mentioned in posts).
I cannot avoid burnout. Even if I did nothing, eventually being this sick just runs my body and brain into the ground. Sometimes waking up and having a shower makes me so tired I start crying and have to go back to bed. I'd rather experience burnout while also getting to feel productive, engaging with people online, enjoying myself and getting to write someone's trauma recovery! Rather than just by lying in bed, still getting brain fog, still feeling agony, still being exhausted, etc. Like obviously I need to learn to strike a balance with it, but I'm better at it than I used to be.
Take care, anon!

Hey, I just read your post on ADHD/EFDD and was just wondering if you have read any research articles on this and if you have, could you tell me which ones because it all sounds super interesting and I need to choose a topic for my psych lit review and I’m thinking about doing something to do with all the stigma around and misconceptions about different mental health disorders.. it’s totally okay if not tho, I know it’s a big ask, but thanks anyway
That sounds like such a great topic!!! I would be HONORED to help :D
The first person I think of when discussing the term EFDD is Dr. Russell Barkley. He’s one of the leading ADHD experts, and has been a spearhead for studying executive dysfunction in people with ADHD for decades. Very much ahead of his time compared to the DSM. I’ve had his book “Taking Charge of Adult ADHD” recommended to me so many times, but have yet to read it.
Here’s some free stuff, though!
[reblogs appreciated because Tumblr hates posts with links and I wanna make sure this anon sees it!]
I tried to include some short stuff and longer stuff, some articles, images, videos, and comic recs, so you can choose based on your current energy and focus level :) I’ve also bolded links and key points of each source if you like skimming. Let’s go!
...................................
Here’s an interesting article/study on EFDD! They found that “ADHD [is] associated with deficits in inhibition, managing one’s attention, self-directed speech and rule-following, self-motivation, and even self-awareness [...] ADHD therefore involves deficits in self-restraint, [...] selfsensing and imagery, self-control of emotion, and self-directed play for problem-solving.”
Thank you for motivating me to look up some articles, because I learned some new things, too! For instance, they assert that ADHD could also be called SRDD (Self-Regulation Deficit Disorder), but conclude the article by saying either SRDD or EFDD fits better than ADHD, and that the terms could be used interchangeably, because SR (self-regulation) and EF (executive function) are effectively talking about the same things. So his assertion is that even if the name ADHD never changes, it can still be scientifically classified as either of the other terms. I believe in recent years he’s preferred EFDD more and more.
[note that the above article/study is from 2011, back when we were on the DSM-IV, so a lot of research has been done since then]
...................................
If that article’s a bit wordy or you want something more visual and up-to-date, here’s a really detailed PowerPoint presentation used during the 2018 ADHD Symposium! It’s long but well-organized so you can just read the big headers or you can read all the bullet points explaining it. Keep in mind this was a lecture, so some of it probably made more sense in person. I’m glad I read this, because I realize the terminology I’ve used is slightly off: according to the Symposium, there aren’t “subtypes” of ADHD, but the different names (ADHD-PI, ADHD-PH, and ADHD-C) are really just used to show the prevalence of certain symptoms in that individual. So they’re all terms for ADHD, but “subtype” was poor word choice on my part.
Oh! I just found a video of him giving a lecture in 2012 using many of the same PowerPoint slides! Here ya go! It’s a bit longer than the other videos I’ve linked below (13min), but it might make the slides easier to interpret :)
...................................
If you want a really short and basic overview, here’s a video explaining 5 main ways executive functions affect the brain and how they work differently in people with ADHD. [I put the video below as well if you wanna stay on tumblr] It’s from 2010, but it holds up. It only covers 5 big ones, so remember (if you can) that executive function affects EVERYTHING and the symptoms will affect everyone differently and at different levels.
This is just the most basic overview and a good place to start:
youtube
...................................
Here’s one where he talks about our Time-Blindness! (below) I was going to pick a couple favorite quotes to give you an idea, but that’d wind up being a transcript of the whole video because HE GETS IT. This is from 2014, but I CANNOT recommend it enough!!! He mentions that ADHD doesn’t have a deficit of attention, but rather a deficit of intention. He describes us as having a near-sighted sense of time, and talks about deadlines, “laziness,” etc.
ALSO he talks about how our brains DON’T CONNECT our knowledge to our performance (back of brain to front) like everyone else’s, so we have the same level of knowledge and intelligence, but can’t access and use it the way others can. This is why teaching skills and organization/memory/time-management tips isn’t helpful -- we can learn them, but our knowledge and action centers are separated, so actually doing them/sticking with them is just as hard as before.
If you don’t watch the whole thing, at least skip to 3:29 cause that part’s really funny and relatable (ok the whole thing is relatable):
youtube
...................................
And of course, I highly recommend the YouTube channel How to ADHD! I have a couple friends who work on it, and they REALLY know their stuff! (They’re the ones who taught me during a game night that RSD isn’t a real term and it should be called “rejection-sensitivity” as part of the emotional dysregulation umbrella)
I went looking and found this video (below) has the BEST explanation of it that I’ve seen in such a concise, entertaining way. I hadn’t seen this one before, but it even covers some of the things I mentioned in that post your ask is about! Especially the Internal Restlessness that I mentioned as the true “hyperactivity” we all share; even though some of us also express outward hyperactivity, both presentations come from the same restlessness in our brains.
youtube
^^^This has some great examples, visuals, animations, and different ways of explaining and thinking about our symptoms! If you want more about this, the description has a bunch of links to their sources! Jessica and everyone else who works on this channel is great at making the videos watchable for people with ADHD (even if we have to rewind sometimes)
Here's Jessica's official Twitter @HowtoADHD! (I was today years old when I found out that she follows me)
...................................
And if you want something REALLY short and simple, here’s a 2 minute animation comparing living with ADHD to trying to film a movie with a director who keeps falling asleep [below]
youtube
....................................
If you like comics:
My favorite ADHD comic artists are: ADHD Alien [@ADHD_Alien on Twitter and @adhd-alien on Tumblr]; Dani Donovan [@danidonovan on Twitter and @danidonovan on Tumblr -- we’re somehow twitter mutuals and she is such a sweetheart. She has some really good infographics, too!!]; ADHD Bri [@AdhdBri on Twitter and @adhdbri on Tumblr]; and dreamadept [@yume_dango on Twitter and @yume-dango on Tumblr]
They’re all well-researched, funny, genuine, intelligent, insightful, talented artists who depict ADHD in a very accurate and relatable way. Go check ‘em out and support them! :D
....................................
I’m gonna stop there for now, but PLEASE feel free to add on to this with other sources, questions, videos, thoughts, comic artists, etc.!!! Hope this helps someone out there!

A/N: well now this is a thing apparently but I am having so much fun with this that I can not stop. So here is a part 2 for all you little darlings. @tspice283 as promised, I hope you enjoy.
<< previous
next>>
It happened again.
And again.
And again.
Over the next two months Katsuki saw her no less than six times. There was no pattern, no way for him to predict when she would appear or even know how long she would be there for. It was frustrating but he was managing it for the most part, even if she had caught him just seconds after getting changed on more than one occasion. That was preferable to the time she had appeared behind his office door in her underwear, her hands franticly trying to cover herself whilst he tried not to blush and look, his grip tightening on the door whilst he tried to get Deku to fuck off as quickly as he could without drawing his attention to the nearly naked woman suddenly in his office.
That had been an awkward three hours.
He still hadn’t told anyone about her despite knowing he should but Katsuki just didn’t know how to do so without it sounding like he had snapped under the pressures of the job. It wasn’t like he could prove it either unless someone was actually there to see her pop in and out of existence and as he had no idea when that would happen its not like he could plan for someone to be there to witness it.
Deku and Eijirou had picked up on the fact something was going on though, trying to get it out of him what had changed but Katsuki had kept it to himself, brushing every one off with his normal brand of hostility and yelling loudly that he was fine. For the most part it had worked, most of them leaving him alone but he was sure that they had worked out something was going on but just not what and that was fine. It wasn’t anyone’s business but his anyway.
It was on visit number seven, about half way through the third month of this happening that it almost all came out and in the worse possible way.
Katsuki was in his bedroom, half way through getting changed and only in his underwear. It had been a long day and he was actually looking forward to squad night. Eijirou and Mina had arrived at his just seconds after him, Sero and Denki not far behind. He had left them in the living room, planning on having a shower and changing clothes whilst they argued over what takeaway they would get and if they should watch a movie or play video games. Katsuki hadn’t thought anything about leaving his bedroom door ajar, all of them having seem him in his underwear enough to not be bothered by it.
He should have known that something was going to happen.
He was bent over, awkwardly yanking his jeans off his feet when the loud pop came. Katsuki froze, eyes going wide with panic as he tried to work out where the sound had come from. There was no high pitch screaming coming from Denki so it couldn’t have been in the living room. “Now that is a welcome I could get used to,” came her teasing voice from behind and Katsuki quickly shot up, spinning around to face the woman.
She was stood at the end of his bed, dressed in light denim shorts and a short sleeved shirt that she had tied at her stomach and was unbuttoned enough to show off the swell of her breasts. She had a bottle of beer in one hand and a pair of large sunglasses perched on top of her head. She looked good and it is an effort not to let his eyes linger on her chest or the slither of skin that was exposed between the shirt and the top of her shorts.
Katsuki made quick work of yanking his jeans off and stormed over to the door, looking out to check that no one had noticed the other woman’s arrival and sighing in relief when he found them all preoccupied by whatever they had on the TV. “Oh, is it squad night?” she asked as she appeared behind him, her hands warm on his waist as she pushed herself up to look over his shoulder and into the room beyond. Her body was a solid wall of heat behind him, her lips next to his cheek and her breath puffing out across his suddenly sensitive skin.
Katsuki panicked.
He shoved her back, his hand splaying across her stomach to do so and he wasn’t surprised to find she was warm there as well. “Will you shut up,” he hissed, shutting the door quickly but quietly so as not to get anyone’s attention. She was laughing at him, not loud enough for it to travel through the door but it was still too loud and he spun round to glare at her, arms cross over his chest. She had moved over to the bed, sat on the end and leaning back on one hand as she sipped from her bottle of beer. He could see her smiling around the bottle, her whole face alight with it though her eyes were firmly fixed on his chest where his arms were pushing his pecs together.
Katsuki had never felt self conscious a day in his life but underneath her intense gaze he became aware of how little he had on and suddenly felt the need to cover himself up. It was ridiculous, considering he knew by this point that they had slept together, the woman letting it slip about the fact she knew about the small scar he had on his left butt cheek. She had probably seen him naked loads of times before but not him like this, at this age. It was weird and stupid but he didn’t like the idea of her seeing him like this and then going back to her version of him and it changing how she saw him.
Fuck this whole thing was messed up.
“I love squad nights,” she stared at the door, a fond smile on her lips and Katsuki had to wonder if maybe that was were she had been before she had been pulled to him. It left him with more questions, wanting to know what his friends were like in the future, if Eijirou had worked up the courage to ask Mina to marry him, if Kyoka had ditched Denki’s ungrateful ass yet and if Sero had actually managed to con some poor unsuspecting woman into dating him. He wanted to know how she fit in with his closest friends, wanted to know if she liked them and if they liked her in return.
“Someone has to,” he grumbled as he strode across the room and towards his draws, yanking out a pair of black sweat pants and a matching tank top. He needed to figure out what he was going to do and fast, there was only so long he could stay hidden in his room before Mina started to get suspicious and came looking for him. He could always pretend to be tired, exhausted from the day and not really up to anything tonight. Denki and Sero would pitch a fit but after a little shouting on his part and sulking on theirs they would leave and Katsuki would be able to relax. Yeah that seemed like a good plan, his most realistic option and would leave him with the smallest headache.
When he turned round Katsuki expected to find her still sat on the edge of the bed but his eyes landed on empty space, her sunglasses abandoned on the grey sheets and her beer bottle on the floor. His eyes snapped to the door just as she cracked it open, the sounds from the living room filtering in and her eyes lighting up as she smiled, opening the door wider as if she was going to go out there.
Katsuki moved quickly, dropping his clothes to the ground and darting across the room. He grabbed at her elbow, yanking her backwards as he used the other hand to slam the door shut. He whirled her around, pinning her against the door with his body. He muffled her yelp with his palm across her mouth, the hand on her elbow sliding up to her wrist as he pinned it to the door above her head. “The hell do you think you are playing at?” he hissed angrily, red eyes locked with her wide ones.
They were so close, Katsuki’s body pressed tight against hers with a knee shoved between her legs. He became aware of every place they were touching all at once, his skin prickling where it was touching hers. He sucked in a breath, his anger giving way quickly as he realised how well she fit against him, how if his hand wasn’t there she would be at the perfect height for him to lean in and steal another kiss. Her eyes were dark as she stared back at him, her chest rising and falling rapidly as he pressed closer.
It was like he was in a trance, his hand slipping off her mouth and going to her naked waist. She licked at her lips, Katsuki’s eyes falling down to her mouth to follow the movement. It wasn’t a conscious decision to lean in, his eyes flickering up to hers as she sucked in a breath but she didn’t tell him to stop. Katsuki‘s eyes fell shut, his lips brushing ever so slightly against hers in a tease, a promise of what would come next.
A loud knock came on the door.
Katsuki’s eyes snapped open and he jerked back, letting go of her and putting some distance between them. “Hey, erm Bakubro? You okay in there man?” Eijirou called through the door, sounding worried and a little hesitant. Katsuki licked at his lips, watching as she pushed off the door, rubbing at the wrist he had been gripping. She looked down at her feet, an appealing red flush on her cheeks as she nibbled on her lips and moved further into the room. Katsuki felt torn, wanting to storm back over there and continue with what he had been about to do whilst also feeling guilty for trying something with someone who he knew was already taken.

Pairings: Bakugou Katsuki x fem!reader / Bakugou Katsuki x random redhead woman (its brief and not important)
Raiting: 18+
A/N: so, a few days ago I posted a little thing (THIS) about Katsuki meeting his future girlfriend except she had traveled back in time and she was already in a relationship with future Katsuki. Any way the idea stuck, it would not leave me be so I started work on it. I wanted to share it with you lovelies even though its only the first part (I have developed a horrible habit of things that should be one shots developing into long and time consuming things). So here it is, please enjoy.

———————————————————————
It’s not unusual for katsuki to come home to an empty apartment. Its fine, he’s used to it by now. He was used to the silence, the loneliness, the meals for one and the shitty telly that only drove home the point that he had spent the five years since graduating U.A focusing on his career and pushing every other aspect of his life to the side. It was fine. He was fine.
What was unusual is coming home and finding a pair of Ground Zero themed high tops in the shoe rack right next to where he puts his own boots.
Frowning down at the shoes Katsuki tried to figure out who they belonged to. They weren’t his, Katsuki was not so cringie that he would own his own merchandise. The only person he knew who would was Deku and though the nerd had a key his feet were way to big for the dainty little shoes that clearly belonged to a woman. It could have been Mina, having taken shitty hairs key to come annoy him whilst the other man was out of the city but again, she wouldn’t be seen dead in his merch. Would rather walk bare footed across hot cools and broken glass than put those ugly things on her feet.
Putting his own shoes in the rack and hanging his jacket up, Katsuki made his way down the hall and towards his living area, keeping his footsteps light, his socked feet barely making a noise. He could hear someone humming the closer he got, the smell of fried fish and spices filling the air. It smelt good, Katsuki’s traitorous stomach growling and reminding him that the last time he had eaten was eight hours ago. No one he knew would be crazy enough to come into his home uninvited and start cooking his food. Well apart from the old hag but he hadn’t given her a key and the door was still intact so it definitely wasn’t her. Unless she had finally gotten to Deku. That nerd would crack quicker than an egg dropped from a ten story building if his mother started nagging him about how little Katsuki had to do with her recently.
In the end it didn’t matter what one of his idiot friends he thought he would find when he came round the corner because it wasn’t any of them. No, what he found was some random chick in one of his hero tank tops and black skinny jeans who was currently dancing around his kitchen, singing to herself as she cooked.
Katsuki came to a stop in the middle of the living room just staring at the woman in disbelief and mouth half hanging open. She moved around like she had done it a thousand times before, not even paying that much attention as she started pulling plates and shit out of the cupboards like it was an every day thing and not that she had broken into his home and taken over. The woman because it was a woman who seemed like just his type if not a little younger than he would normally go for, chose that moment to notice him, catching sight of him as she turned round. “Hey, welcome home,” she smiled up at him brightly as she placed the plates down, one at either side of the small square table.
Her voice knocked him out of his stupor, Katsuki’s mouth snapping closed as he scowled at her. “Who the hell are you?” he snarled angrily, hands uncurling as he took a step forward, ready to defend himself if she tried anything. She gave him an amused look, raising an eyebrow at him as she rounded the table and made her way across the small space towards him. “Ha ha Katsuki, very funny,” she rolled her eyes at him playfully, her smile wide and genuinely happy witch just seemed odd, even if it did light up her entire face and make her eyes sparkle.
Katsuki barely had time to register that this woman knew his actual name before she was upon him, wrapping her arms around his neck, her blunt nails scratching at the shaved hair at the back of his head. She pulled him down as she pushed up and then suddenly her lips were on his. Katsuki’s eyes went wide, a startled noise making it passed both their lips as he went rigid. Her lips were soft against his, her tongue darting out briefly to swipe across his and gently nudge at the seem. It probably would have been a pretty good kiss if Katsuki wasn’t freaking out.
What the actual fuck was happening? Was he hallucinating, so lonely that he had imagined a girlfriend? It felt real though, the slide of her lips against his, the warmth of her hands running through the shaved sides of his hair only to tangle in the short strands. The press of her body against his felt solid, tangible, her breasts pressing against his chest as she pushed closer. She felt very real and solid against him and he was hard pressed not to wrap his arms round her and deepen the kiss.
Maybe he had been hit with some weird quirk then, something that had transported him to a parallel dimension where this was his life? Or maybe she was just some crazed fan who had found out where he lived and gotten it into her head that they were a thing? Whatever was happening Katsuki needed to figure out what the hell he was supposed to do now because there was an attractive woman in his home, kissing him like they were lovers and he had no clue who she was or how she had even gotten in to his home.
When he didn’t kiss her back the woman pulled away from him, a concerned frown on her lips. Her hands slid down his shoulders, resting over his pecs and Katsuki could feel the heat of her through his thin top making his skin prickle. She was looking at him, really looking at him, her eyes dragging across his face like she was cataloging every little detail about him. It was intense, uncomfortable even but Katsuki was struck dumb, still staring at her with wide eyes as his mind struggled to catch up to what was happening.
Her frown deepened as her eyes settled on his. She lifted one hand off his chest and brought it up to his face, her fingers feather light as she traced them along his brow and down his cheek. “Where’s your scar?” she asked quietly though Katsuki could pick up the edge of concern to her voice. “My what?” he grumbled. What was she talking about? Scar. He didn’t have a scar, well not on his face anyway. Sure he had had bruises and scrapes in the past but nothing so bad that it would leave a scar behind.
Suddenly she jerked away from him, shoving him backwards slightly in her haste to get some distance between the. Her eyes darted around the apartment, clearly looking for something but what ever it was she didn’t seem to find it. Katsuki could see the panic building, though her expression stayed neutral her eyes betrayed her. “Shit,” she hissed, eyes falling to the floor as she shoved a hand into her hair and tugged at the strands.
Frowning Katsuki took a step forward, his hand reaching out to her as if by its own free will, “hey are you, erh you okay?” Her head snapped up at his uncertain words, as if she was only just remembering he was there. Her eyes went wide as they dropped to his mouth, her hands flying up to cover her mouth and muffling her shocked gasp. She mumbled something behind her hands that he thought sounded like his name and something about being dead but he couldn’t be sure. His frown deepened into a scowl as he took a step forward, his fists clenched at his side and feeling angry and confused which wasn’t a good combination for him. “Listen here dumb ass, I don’t know who the hell you are or what is going on here but you have five seconds to explain this shit or I’m going to blow you into next week,” Katsuki growled out angrily, his tone threatening and hands cracking with tiny explosions so she knew he meant it. He didn’t get an answer.
There was a loud pop, like a bubble being burst and then she was gone.
Katsuki stared at the spot the woman had just been standing. Katsuki was confused, unsure if any of that had actually happened or if he was that pathetic he had imagined the whole thing. Slowly he turned to look at the kitchen but sure enough the table was set for two, a pan still on top of the stove and whatever was in it sizzling away. That didn’t prove anything though. On more than one occasion Katsuki had been so tired he had gone through the motions of making dinner without remembering doing it, so maybe he had just been so caught up on his little day dream that he had automatically made food for two and set the table accordingly. Yeah that had to be it.
Even if his lips were still tingling with the phantom feel of hers.
He made quick work of getting rid of the extra place sitting and boxed up half of the food to be eaten the next day. He spent the whole night convincing himself it had all been in his head and promising himself to make plans for his next night off to go out and find someone to spend the night with. It worked, Katsuki having even forgotten about the whole thing by the next morning. He went about his normal routine and everything was fine, just like any other morning until he went to leave and he found those shitty shoes still sitting in the rack, looking innocent but left Katsuki’s heart racing and palms sweating. He had quickly snatched them up and shoved them into the closet, slamming the door shut and leaning heavily against it.
He was on edge all morning, watching everyone around him and looking for any sign of his mystery visitor but he never saw even a hint of her. He even went as far as checking criminal records for people who fit her description and asking around the office if anyone had seen someone strange hanging around but all it got him was worried looks and no closer to figuring out what the hell had happened.
He knew he should tell someone, knew that the whole situation was weird but he also knew how crazy it sounded and he didn’t want people thinking he had lost his mind. So Katsuki kept it to himself and as the days went on and nothing else happened he began to relax, once again able to convince himself that it had all been in his head. He went out with his friends when Eijiro got back into town, even met a girl a cute redhead to take home that night. Work had quietened down as well, finally getting back to a normal level of villain fuckery so his hours were no longer so draining. Katsuki’s life was back to normal, finally well rested and feeling more settled in himself, he even had a date with the cute redhead to look forward to at the weekend.
So it came as a shock when two weeks after the first incident she turned up again, exactly the same way she had left.
He was sat at his dining table this time, a late lunch laid out before him and the room silent apart from the low sounds of the city below filtering in through the open windows to stave off the early afternoon heat. His chopsticks were half way to his mouth when there was a loud pop and suddenly he wasn’t alone any more.
His eyes went wide as he looked up at the woman stood the other side of the table, a confused frown on her face as she looked around the room. She was dressed in workout clothes this time, a slight sheen of sweat to her and her cheeks red from exertion. “Fuck’s sake,” she sighed when her eyes landed on Katsuki, her shoulders slumping. Katsuki’s chopsticks clattered to the table as they slipped from his fingers. “Your not real,” he whispered, his wide eyes still stuck on the woman before him.
This couldn’t be happening, not again. He was fine, well rested and had actually spent time with his friends in the last week, he even had a date that night so it wasn’t like he was lonely. He shouldn’t be seeing her, there was no reason for him to be hallucinating right now so why the hell was he imagining some woman in the middle of his kitchen?

Forehead Kisses
The first time she does it it seems more like an absentminded action, Y/N not even seeming to have noticed she had done it in the first place and it leaves Katsuki reeling.
It’s early morning, Shoto half asleep at the counter and watching the kettle boil without even seeing it. Katsuki’s slumped in one of the dinning room chairs, head tipped back and eyes closed, trying to ignore the ache in his arms. They had just gotten in from an overnight patrol, the two of them exhausted and looking forward to crawling into their beds and not emerging for at least eight hours. They would already be passed out by now except Y/N was on her way out, already running late for her own shift because she had insisted on making them breakfast before leaving.
He’s just dozing off when it happens, a press of cold and slightly chapped lips against his forehead that are gone as quickly as they had appeared. With a startled grunt Katsuki jerks up, eyes snapping open as he looks around him in a surprised daze. She’s already gone though, calling out her goodbye as she disappears out into the hall, the sound of the door opening and closing coming just seconds latter.
His forehead tingles where Y/N had pressed her lips to it, cold to the touch when he lifts his hand up to rub at the spot. He frowns down at the table, a weird feeling in his chest as he fixates on how soft and innocent the action had been. They had kissed before, of course they had but somehow the brief brush of her lips across his forehead felt a hell of a lot more intimate then having his tongue in her mouth. Katsuki was sure that no one had ever kissed him like before, not even the old hag when he had been a brat and it leaves him feeling warm and confused. His face heats even more, a definite blush staining his cheeks.
Suddenly feeling embarrassed he pushes away from the table and stalks off to his room, ignoring Shoto’s confused call of his name as he shuts his bedroom door. He throws himself face down onto the bed, clinging onto his pillows and burying his hot face in the cool sheets. He doesn’t understand how he’s feeling or why such a simple action has left him blushing like some virgin and Katsuki hates not knowing, especially when it’s to do with his own mind. So he shoves it away, brushing the whole thing off as just a fluke, something that will never happen again so what’s the point in over thinking it.
Except it does happen again, and again, and again. He looses track at some point but he can still remember how every single one had left him flustered and blushing like an idiot. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern, no defining reason as to why she does it and it leaves him feeling frustrated and annoyed. He can’t deny though how much he looks forward to the gentle press of her soft lips against his brow, constantly in a state of anticipation whenever Y/N is around. That’s not to unusual though, even before the innocent show of affection had started Katsuki had always been excited to spend time with her. This thing between them, between all of them, was new and exciting and Katsuki was always on edge whenever the three of them were together, even if he did his best to hide it.
It takes him about a month to finally ask Y/N why she started giving him those sweet and innocent kisses.
There alone, just the two of them, Shoto off with Deku and glasses for some guy bonding or whatever it was they did when together. Ochaco had asked her out to dinner with ponytail but Y/N had turned her down, instead deciding to spend the evening with Katsuki. He shouldn’t feel as smug as he did, smirking triumphantly at round cheeks when Y/N had said she was busy but he couldn’t help it. He liked winning.
They were on the sofa, Y/N curled up in the corner and Katsuki sprawled across the rest of it, his head in Y/Ns lap and feet hanging over the arm. They’re watching some random rubbish on the tv, some dating show that has the floor falling away from under the rejected women and they fall into some black pit with surprised and sometimes terrified screams. It’s mindless trash but after the day he’s had it’s what Katsuki needs, his brain finally switching off.
Y/Ns running her fingers through his hair, messing up his carefully styled spikes but he doesn’t care, to busy enjoying the relaxing and soothing feeling of her fingers gently brushing against his scalp. On screen some extra is ranting about how good she is after she has been rejected, insulting the rather annoyed looking man she had been flirting with just moments before. She’s partway through explaining why she is so much better than everyone else when the bit of flooring she’s standing on falls away like a door being yanked open and she falls with a scream, hands flailing in the air. Katsuki huffs in amusement, a smile curling at the edges of his lips. There’s a gentle chuckle from above, Y/N shifting slight and then her lips are brushing against his temple, Katsuki able to feel her smile as she presses a gentle kiss just above his brow before pulling back and continuing to run her fingers through his hair.
Katsuki goes still, his attention completely slipping from the tv. He swallows, tongue darting out to wet his lips and his heart beats just a little bit faster in his chest. “Why do you do that?” he finally manages to ask, his voice surprisingly horse. “Do what?” She sounds distracted and Katsuki knows she’s still focused on the stupid program, her hiss as another contestant drops just confirming it. He can feel his cheeks reddening, embarrassed now that he’s brought it up but Katsuki’s not the kind of person to back down so he focuses his attention back on the tv and forces the words out. “Kiss me on the head like that”
Y/Ns hand stills instantly, a sudden tension filling the darkened room. He wants to turn and look, wants to see the emotions playing across her face but Katsuki doesn’t move, staying as still as a statue and waiting for her answer. “Do you not like it?” she finally says, a slight edge of caution to her voice, like she’s expecting him to turn around and say no and demand that she stop.
“Not what I said,” he grumbled. As much as he had been loath to admit it Katsuki really did like it. The forehead kisses were simple, innocent, give with no demand for a return and simply to convey her feelings for him. He had seen her do the same with Shoto, bending down and pressing a quick kiss to his temple when he had said something unapologetically stupid or as she passed by the back of his chair or even just because he had smiled. The other man never complained, just smiled softly and accepting it without the need of an explanation. Showing affection was difficult for all three of them and this was something small and meaningful, intimate in a way Katsuki hadn’t experienced before and he knew that unlike most things this was just for him and Shoto Y/N never having been with someone before, not the way she was with them.
Her fingers start moving again, her blunt nails slightly scraping at his scalp. “Then why does it matter?” Katsuki blinks unseeingly at the tv as her words sink in. Why does it matter? Katsuki like it, he can’t deny it at this point and he doesn’t really want to, at least not to Y/N anyway. So why was he making such a big deal out of it? He liked the attention, like how soft and open she was around him and he doesn’t want her to think that he has a problem with any of the ways she chooses to show she cares. This thing between them is hard enough as it is, all of them emotionally damaged in some way or another and they all struggle to be as open with their affections as other couples are.
“Doesn’t,” Katsuki grunted, nudging his head against her hand and turning his attention back to the tv. They’re interviewing the contestants that had been knocked out, the loudmouth one still ranting even though her hairs a mess and half covering her face. They stay like that for a long moment, Y/Ns fingers carding through his hair and Katsuki’s just on the edge of dozing off when she moves slightly, her leg jostling his head. He doesn’t get time to complain about her constant moving, her lips pressing against his forehead once again and whatever complaint he had died instantly.
She lingers, fingers slipping from his hair to cup his cheek. Katsuki doesn’t think he’s ever been so aware of another person before, all his senses tuned to Y/N. He can’t keep it to himself and when she finally begins to pull away Katsuki reaches up, tipping his head back and burying his hand in her hair. He pulls her back down, their lips meeting in what is probably one of the tamest kisses they have ever shared but just like the forehead kisses it’s nice, simple and chaste and perfect. He lets her go with a sigh, just catching a glimpse of her soft smile and gentle eyes before he relaxes back into the couch and turns back to the tv.
They both stay silent, the gentle murmur of the tv the only noise in the room. When she presses her lips to his brow once more Katsuki hums in acknowledgment and when she pulls away he doesn’t try and stop her.
Over the years Katsuki gets a lot more kisses on the forehead and they still leave his heart fluttering, all the tension and anger leaving him. He still doesn’t quite understand why he likes them so much or why she had even started doing it but like Y/N had said all those years ago, why does it matter.
He still can’t think of a reason as to why it should.

First Time For Everything
Rating: 18+
Pairing: Todoroki Shoto x fem!reader
Summary: Shoto gets fucked and its exactly what he had hoped it would be.
Tags: pegging, slight sub vibes for Shoto, explicit sex
Shoto stood staring at the door in front of him, hand hovering ready to knock but he couldn’t get it to move any further. It had taken him longer to get here than it should have, his nerves finally getting the better of him and causing him to drag his feet. He had woken up this morning pulse thumping and covered in a cold sweat, the last foggy strands of his dream clinging to his sleep heavy mind. More like a nightmare actually, the faint images of everything that could go wrong tonight haunting him. He had come close to calling it off several times throughout the day but he had talked himself out of it every time he went to pick up the phone. His nerves had carried over into his dinner with Izuku and Uraraka. He hadn’t been that good of company tonight and his two friends had noticed but Shoto had played it off as work stress and lack of time for personal relationships. They had seemed to buy it, telling him he needed to take better care of himself and they would always be there for him if he needed something. It had hurt to lie to his friends but it was a necessity. He should probably be worried how easy lying was for him now but he supposed it would come in handy when trying to bluff a villain. Groaning Shoto took a deep breath, squaring his shoulders and holding his head high. He could do this. He had started down villain’s intent on killing him and put himself in life threatening situations on a daily basis, getting his girlfriend to fuck him was nowhere near as dangerous. With one last deep breath he knocked on the door, two quick and sure taps that seemed to echo around the hall.
The door of the next apartment along creaked open and Shoto turned with a frown, watching as a messy tuff of black hair poked out, brown eyes watching him intently. The door in front of him swung open and Shoto’s head shot back round to look at the women before him. She stood in the doorway, one hand holding the door and the other curled around the doorframe. She had on an oversized black T-shirt with a white skull print on and a pair of black shorts that just peaked out from under the hem of the top. She was smiling widely up at him eyes sparkling and Shoto wanted to drown in them. “Hey you” she said fondly and all he could do was mumble back a strained ‘hello’. Laughing gently she stepped to the side, motioning him to come in. He took a few tentative steps inside, hearing her close the door behind him. “Your creepy neighbor was watching me” he said in his usual monotone voice as he undid his jacket, pulling his hat off his head and tugging his scarf from around his neck. She stepped around him, taking his jacket from him as he shrugged it off, along with his other items before disappearing behind him again. “Probably because the last person who knocked on my door screamed so loud the police were almost called” she yelled, her voice slightly muffled and Shoto could only assume she was still in the closet, putting his things away. He hummed his understanding as he toed his sneakers off. He didn’t think that was it, not all of it any way. The guy was a creep and a bit of a stalker and Shoto knew he was probably just keeping track of who was coming and going. “Drink?” she asked as she appeared once more and Shoto nodded. He would probably need it if he was going to get through tonight without hyperventilating. She grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together and tugged him through the apartment. He let his eyes dart around the space, taking in the open planned room. She had called it a studio apartment but Shoto didn’t really understand what the meant. It was one large room, the walls painted a bright white and the floors a dark hardwood. The bedroom area was on the right, her bed set in the middle and pushed against the wall. In the middle of the room was her living area with a two person sofa with a coffee table in front. There were two matching armchairs at either end of the table and a TV in the other side. On the left was a kitchen, the worktops in the same dark wood as the floor. The wall opposite was completely glass and looked out over the neon light city. There wasn’t much decoration in the space, just a few photos scattered around, some of him, some of the two of them together and a few of her with people Shoto had never meet. It was all very subtle and tasteful and surprisingly cozy.  Once in the kitchen she sat Shoto down on one of the high stalls. She grabbed two tumblers from the cupboard, placing the decorated glasses in front of him before spinning on her heals to dig through her freezer, pulling a chilled bottle of vodka from within. She brought two large chunks of ice with her, dropping one into each class before pouring the vodka in. Shoto took the glass she offered him wordlessly, staring at the clear liquid for a moment before bring the glass to his lips and knocking back its contents. He coughed and spluttered as the alcohol hit the back of this throat, slamming the glass back down on the counter and wincing at the taste. She was smirking at him as she sipped at her own drink, watching him out the corner of her eyes and clearly amused by his reaction.  Wordlessly she poured him another shot but this time he sipped at it carefully. He watched her as the silence stretched on between them, making him want to squirm as it amplified his nerves. He blurted out the first thing that came to mind, desperate to fill the silence but unknowing what to say.  Shoto sighed, shoving a hand through his hair and asked the one thing he had been worrying about. “Are you sure this is going to work?” his voice came out not much more than a whisper as he looked down at his drink. He wasn’t sure if he was asking
about the act its self or if their relationship would be the same afterwards. he knew he was being paranoid but he was asking a lot of her and though she had seemed into it the niggling feeling that she was only doing it for him kept persisting. Delicate hands wrapped around his and Shoto looked up to find her smiling at him reassuringly. “It’s going to be fine. Trust me” she asked and Shoto nodded, offering her a small smile back. She gently tugging him from his seat, stepping round the counter to be closer to him. “Did you do everything I told you to?” Her voice was serious now as she spoke, her gaze fixed on him as she waited for his answer. Shoto blushed, remembering very clearly the short list she had sent him that morning. It had been a strange morning but he had done what she had asked of him. Not trusting his words Shoto nodded, his eyes darting away from hers to look at their joint hands instead. “Good boy” Shoto’s head jerked up at those words, a small thrum of pleasure shooting down his spine. He didn’t know if it was the words or just the praise in general but whatever it was Shoto had liked it. Her smile widened, eyes flashing in recognition and Shoto knew that this wouldn’t be the last time he would hear those words or some variation of them. “Why don’t you head back and get ready?” Shoto stiffened slightly at the words. He knew they would be coming, the two of them having discussed this but it made the situation that much more real to hear her say them. He swallowed before licking his dry lips, eyes nervously darting around before stopping on her. Pulling in a deep breath Shoto nodded, pulling his hands from hers and started to make his way towards the bathroom. He lent back against the door once it was closed, eyes closed and just breathing. He stayed there for a few moments, trying to steady his nerves and gain some composure. He was fine, there was nothing to be scared about. He knew that she would take care of him, that she wouldn’t do anything he didn’t like or ask for. He was safe with her. With a sigh he pushed away from the door and began to strip, folding his clothes neatly and placing them on top of the closed toilet. He turned the shower on, letting the water heat up before stepping under the spray. He let the warm water cascade down his shoulders and back, head hung forward in an attempt to keep his hair dry. His cock hung limply between his legs and Shoto wondered if he should try and get it up before going back out but in all honesty he didn’t know if he would be able to.  He was excited sure but he was also nervous and a little scared if he was being honest with himself and at the moment the negative outweighed the positive.
Groaning Shoto grabbed the soap and began to wash himself, his movements methodical and quick. He let out a small groan as he groped his own ass, cold fingers prodding at his entrance, his dick twitching in interest. Trying to ignore his growing arousal Shoto finished washing, turning the shower off and stumbling out to grab a towel. He rubbed over his body, rough and quick in his haste to get dry. He looked down at his clothes, wondering whether or not to put them back on. It seemed pointless, like an extra obstacle in getting what he wanted. Deciding not to bother he wrapped the large fluffy towel around his waist and headed back out into the main living space.
He found her sat on the edge of the bed, leaning back on her hands and head tipped back. She had turned all the lights off in the apartment apart from the one lamp on the bedside table, the warm yellow glow making everything seem softer. Slowly he walked over to her, coming to a stop in front of her. She looked at him from under hooded eyes, smiling gently. “Hey” she whispered, tipping her head forward and dragging her eyes across his exposed chest, eyes lingering on the obvious bulge between his legs. The smile slipped into a smirk, her pink tongue darting out to drag along her plum bottom lip.
Swallowing nervously Shoto adverted his gaze, eyes landing on the few things she had placed next to her. There were a couple of condoms and a bottle of lube but what caught his attention was the black silicone dildo that led on top. It looked bigger than he had expected, the veins more pronounced than he though they would be.
“You can touch it if you want” she purred, fingers ghosting along his abs before gripping his waist tightly. With one last look he turned back to the women in front of him, shaking his head no. He was afraid that if he touched it he would manage to talk himself out of it.
With a soft smile she stood, wrapping one arm round his waist whist she griped gently at his chin with the other hand. She leant up at the same time she pulled him down, their lips brushing in a gentle kiss. Shoto sighed into it, his eyes closing as he gripped at her waist. It was over quickly, Y/N pulling away from him just enough that they could look at one another comfortably. “You ready?” she asked, her voice gently.
Shoto stilled, his eyes boring into hers. It was a simple question but it left him feeling anxious. Was he ready? He had had weeks to prepare for this, to psych himself up for what was to come and he had thought that he was ready for it but now faced with it he was unsure. He wanted it, wouldn’t have asked her for it if he didn’t but was he ready to have that experience now?
The hand that had been griping his chin slid up to cup his cheek, her thumb brushing against his cheek bone. “It’s okay. We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to”. She reassured him and Shoto felt all the tension leave him in a single rush. He trusted her with this, with him and he knew he wouldn’t come to regret this in the morning.
“I’m ready” he whispered, turning his head and placing a gentle kiss on her palm. She smiled at him, leaning up to place one last kiss on his lips before stepping back. She wasted no time tugging the towel free and threw it back towards the living room. Her eyes raked across his body, taking in everything and Shoto had to fight the urge to cover up, feeling exposed. “On the bed” she jerked her head behind her and Shoto moved without question.
She hadn’t said how she wanted him so he climbed into the middle, laying down on his back and head resting on the pillows. His head was elevated enough that he could watch as she climbed up from the end of the bed, crawling up him with an almost predatory grim on her face. She hovered over him, knees on either side of his hips and hands next to his head. “Do you trust me?” Shoto’s eyes widened slightly at her sudden whispered question. After all this time did she really think she had to ask that?
“Yes” he whispered back, his cold hand cupping her cheek once more. With a soft smile she leaned forward, his hand slipping from her cheek so he could drape the arm across her shoulder. She placed soft kisses along his jaw and Shoto turned offering her more space as she kissed and nipped her way up to his ear. He gasped as she sucked the lobe between her teeth, nipping gently at it. “I’m going to wreck you” Shoto stiffened at her words, her gentle laughter sending shivers down his spine. She took advantage of his stunned silence, kissing her way back down his neck. Her teeth scrapped across his skin before sinking into the soft flesh where neck met shoulders. He cried out at the sudden shock of pain, eyes screwed shut, his other hand coming up to tangle in her hair. He felt her smirk against the abused flesh, her cool tongue soothing the sting.
She continued to move down his body, kissing, sucking and licking at every bit of exposed skin. Her mouth and tongue alternated from the sting of ice to the prickle of fire against him, making him gasp, squirming beneath her. Her assault on him was constant, never stopping to let him breathe or regain his bearings. Her hot mouth sealed around one of his nipples, sucking and licking at it hungrily. The other didn’t go ignored for long, her ice covered fingers pinching and twisting until Shoto was gasping, arching his chest off the bed and offering more of himself to her.
The stark contrast in temperatures was jarring, his mind unable to really comprehend to two different sensations all at once. It was maddening but also not enough, all it was doing was stroking the fires of his arousal, making him crave more. Suddenly everything shifted, what had been hot was cold and what was cold now hot. Lips were exchanged for fingers and fingers gave way to sharp teeth. Shoto cried out at the sudden shift, the sensitive skin aching at the sudden and drastic shift in temperature.
Shoto hardly had time to process the change before she was moving on, fingers skimming down his side as her lips dragged down his abs, tongue licking at the groves and teeth nipping. She shifted, hands curling around the inside of his thighs and forcing his legs open. She settled between them, eyes find his and holding his gaze as she swirled her tongue around his belly button before placing gentle kisses down his stomach. Shoto held his breath as he watched her, anticipation thrumming through him the closer she got to his straining dick but she bypassed it, placing more kisses across his thighs. Shoto’s annoyed whine turned into a pained gasp as she bit down on his thigh, sucking the skin into her hungry mouth. She let the skin go with a wet pop, placing a soft kiss over the mark that was undoubtedly there. “Patience is a virtue” she whispered, smirking at him and Shoto groaned in annoyance, his head falling back to the pillow. His leg twitched as she kissed down it, all the way to his ankle than started on the other one, making her way back up. He expected her to skip right past his straining erection, continuing the slow build up so it came as a shock when she sucked him down in one go. Shoto cried out, hips jerking forward at the sudden attention. She hummed around him, hands grabbing at his hips and forcing him back down against the bed. Shoto curled a hand in her hair, not to control her movements but just for something to hold onto. She sucked and licked at him, her head moving up and down his length painfully slow and Shoto was lost. He tried to thrust up again, to get her to speed up her ministrations but she pushed him back again, her hands heating up to prickle uncomfortably at his skin. He hissed at the sudden sting, pulling away from her. She hummed around him, her hands cooling to sooth the pain and his hiss turned into a sigh. She sped up after that, her tongue swirling around his head before sucking him back down till he hit the back of her throat, the muscles constricting around him as she swallowed. She worked him perfectly, driving his desire higher only to bring him back down with a pained sob. He was begging, could hear the desperate please for more tumbling from his lips in between moans and cries of pleasure but she wouldn’t let him, keeping him on a knives edge. So far gone was he that he didn’t really register that her hands had left him, nor the sound of a bottle being opened. She shifted between his legs, the angle changing and he slid between her lips, her tongue dragging along the sensitive vein. He hit the back of her throat and she stopped. Panting Shoto lifted his head to look at her, his eyes struggling to focus on her. Finally his eyes locked onto hers and his breath caught. She was looking up at him, eyes hooded and stretched lips quirking into a smile around his dick. As soon as she realized she had all his attention she swallowed, a slick finger pushing at his entrance. Shoto’s head fell back, crying out at the sudden sensations. She slowly slid her slick finger in, pressing gently forward whilst still sucking at his cock. It stung, probably would have hurt more if he hadn’t been so blissed out already but he supposed that was the point. Distract him with pleasure so he didn’t notice the pain. She stopped once her finger was all the way in, her knuckles pressed against his ass. She pulled off his dick with a wet pop and a quick lick to the leaking slit before lifting herself up slightly to look at him. “You okay?” She asked, her voice rough yet still managing to sound concerned. Shoto was panting, his ass squeezing down on the intrusion. It felt odd, a little uncomfortable and he was fighting his body’s urge to force it out but it wasn’t bad. His erection had flagged a little but not completely, probably helped by the fact she had delicate fingers that were well lubed. Absentmindedly Shoto wondered how many he would have to take before she deemed him ready to take the abandoned toy. Shoto shifted his hips slightly, groaning as he felt her move inside of him. “Yeah” he managed
to groan out. She smiled at him, blowing him a kiss before she ducked back down, taking him back into his mouth. She lapped and sucked at him leisurely as she slowly pulled her finger back before pushing it back in just as slowly. They continued like this till her finger was gliding into him effortlessly, his muscles relaxing and accepting the intrusion. The sting of pain had subsided, the hum of pleasure building again. “Another?” She numbed against his hip, teeth dragging across the bone. All Shoto could do was grunt, spreading his legs wider for her, planting his feet flat on the bed and raising his knees up. He felt exposed like this, wanton but he didn’t care, he just wanted more. She smiled against him, placing a gentle kiss before she pulled back. Shoto groaned as her finger slipped free, and odd sense of emptiness filling him. He rolled his hips trying to chase her retreating finger but the only answer he got was her teasing laughter, her warm breath fanning over his neglected dick and caused him to whine. “Shush love, you’ll get what you want soon enough” she soothed, mouthing up his dick and swallowing him back down. He let out a small moan, rolling his hips again to press deeper into her waiting mouth. He hissed as he pushed back, pressing his ass against her waiting fingers. Slowly she pushed forward, slick fingers stretch him one again. They went in slightly easier, his body more accepting this time but it still stung slightly.
She carried on as she had before, fingers working inside of him whilst she distracted him with gentle suction and hard licks except this time he felt fuller, the painful stretch not taking from his pleasure but adding to it. He was breathing heavily, hips rolling down onto her fingers before pushing back up into her waiting mouth. It was everything he wanted from her, better even and they weren’t even to the main event yet.
Her fingers shifted, pushing deeper and curling up wards and Shoto screamed, a bright shot of pleasure darting up his spine and setting his nerves alight. “There you are” she whispered, her lips curling into a smirk against his thigh as she pushed against the spot again causing him to gasp. “Wha…what…what’s” he managed to gasp out but the rest of his words stuck as she rubbed her fingers inside of him, pushing hard against his prostate. “Told you I would make you scream” she purred, her fingers pushing gently against the spot once more before pulling them out.
He whined at the loss, his dick twitching and leaking. “Come on” she commanded, hands grabbing at his hips as she began to turn him. He went with a groan, rolling onto his front and lifting himself up onto his hands and knees. They had spoken about this beforehand and Shoto knew this would be best for his first time but he couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed that he wouldn’t be able to watch her above him as she took him apart.
Cool hands ran up his side, quick fingers dancing across his ribs and tweaking at his still sensitive nipples. He let out a little gasp, head falling forward and his hair falling around him. The hands moved on quickly though, sliding down his back and messaging his ass. He moaned softly, rocking back and pushing his ass back into her hands. Her laughter ran out, loud and clear in the quiet room, nails digging into the muscle slightly as she squeezed.
“Look at you. Already so desperate for me” he groaned at her words, unable to deny her claim because it was true.  He wanted her to own him, to keep her promise and completely wreck him. “Please”. The word tumbled from his lips, begging her for more. He felt her move behind him, her hands gripping his cheeks and pulling them apart, exposing his clenching hole to her. He felt even more exposed than before, his greedy hole and dripping dick on display for her and he loved it. Loved that she was watching him fall apart for her so intently.  “Not yet love”.
Her warm breath against his twitching hole was the only warning he got before she dragged her tongue along his crack. Shoto cried out, hips jerking forward at the sudden sensation but her tight grip on his ass kept him place. Her tongue flicked at his rim, lapping at it and pushing down ever so gently before sucking hard. Beneath her Shoto squirmed, his arms giving out as he collapsed face first into the sheets, panting and moaning. He pushed back against her tongue, the tip slipping inside of him. His walls clenched around the intrusion but she pushes forward, tongue slipping in as far as it could go until her face was flush against his ass.
It felt so dirty, a filthy imitation of what she would be doing shortly as she fucked her tongue in and out of him and Shoto loved it. He rocked back against her, the lewd sucking and slurping noises driving him on. For a second he entertained the thought of reaching back and grabbing a fist full of her hair and using his grip to hold her still whilst he ground himself against her face. The thought had his dick twitching but he couldn’t bring himself to move, his hands tingling with pleasure.
With one last suck she pulled back and Shoto’s body relaxed, all the tension leaving him. “Such a filthy little pervert”. She nipped at his ass and Shoto yelped, hips jerking away from the sudden sting of pain. She laughed at him, one hand leaving his ass to stroke at his neglected cock. Her grip was nowhere near tight enough or fast enough but it had him moaning regardless. Her fingers were back at his entrance again, dripping with lube and rubbing gently against his hole. She dipped the tips of her fingers inside of his loosened hole before pulling them back out, teasing him with what he wanted until he couldn’t take it anymore. He rocked back on her fingers, forcing them deeper inside of him. They booth moaned, her head falling forward to rest against the small of his back. Encouraged by her reaction Shoto began to rock back and forth, pushing himself down onto her fingers and then forward into her waiting hand.
“Look at you, fucking yourself back onto my fingers like the greedy little whore you are” Her filthy words had Shoto gasping, pushing back harder. “Please” he gasped, hoping she would grant him whatever it was he was begging for because he didn’t know. He wasn’t sure if he wanted her to continue with the filthy words, fingers moving inside of him or if he wanted her to finally give him what he had asked for all those weeks ago.
“Shush love” her voice was low and gentle as she soothed him, a delicate hand petting at his side. “Just a little more and then I’ll give you what you want”. As she spoke she pulled her fingers out of him causing him to let out a small sob at the emptiness. He didn’t have to wait long, her fingers returning but this time a third pushed in alongside the other two. Despite knowing better Shoto pushed back against them, wincing at the sudden shock of pain at being forced wider. “Gently” she chided him and Shoto stilled, allowing her to slowly work the three fingers into him, pushing a little bit deeper every time. He let out a shaky breath once her fingers stilled, finally all the way in.

Tell Her
This was requested by an amazing anon! “Can I request an imagine with Damien haas. One where the reader is completely oblivious, like the most naive girl that’s usually all smiles and jokes. Damien is like in love with her but she can’t even see it. One day she comes home all depressed because another blind date when bad and she doesn’t think anyone will ever love her for her… and Damien is sitting there like 😳😩 you decide how it ends 😂 thanks!”
This was so much fun to write so I hope you enjoy it!!

God you were beautiful.
Damien couldn’t help but stare, watching you as you worked, the look of concentration on your face along with the occasional smile on your face as you seemed to enjoy the joke you just wrote. You were just…so damn cute.
“It’s rude to stare you know.” Shayne told Damien, sliding up next to him in his rolling chair.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Damien replied, going back to typing on his computer.
“Come on, Damien. We are way passed this stage in our friendship. Denial in this is just pointless…so how long have you liked Y/N?”
Damien let out an exasperated sigh, his focus turning towards his best friend.
“I’m honestly surprised it’s taken you this long to notice. You really need to work on your observation skills.” He deflected slightly.
“So a while then?”
“Yeah.”
“Damn, how haven’t I noticed?” Shayne asked himself. “We’re missing the point here. You like Y/N. You should ask her out. I bet you anything she’ll say yes.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Why not?”
“We work together, Shayne.” Damien replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“That’s just a cop out because you’re too scared of something. Besides, we’ve known her long enough to know that even if it didn’t work with her that it wouldn’t affect work. I mean, she dated Anthony and they worked well together after they broke up.”
“But I’m not Anthony. What if I’m the one that screws it up?”
“Screws what up?” You asked as you walked up to Damien and Shayne, startling both guys.
“Screws uh…uh, this script. Like, I’m working super hard on it and I feel like I’ve built it up too much when we discussed it the other day.” Damien quickly lied, motioning to the laptop in front of him.
“Come on, Damien. You’re not gonna screw it up, you’re awesome. You got this.”
“Yeah, Damien.” Shayne teased with a smirk.
Damien glared daggers at Shayne as you leaned against Damien’s desk.
“So, I’m taking a lunch break and wanted to know if you guys wanted to come. I was thinking of getting chinese.”
“Yeah, that sounds good.” Damien agreed with a nod and smile.
“It does but I still have so much to get done.” Shayne replied, earning a look from Damien. “Bring me something back?”
“Sure. Text me what you want. I’m already picking up something for Ian and Courtney so I got you.” You told him with a smile.
=================================
You and Damien decided to eat there and just order for your friends before you left. Damien was a little on edge because he was still wondering if you overheard the part about Anthony which would probably lead to more questions he didn’t have the fake answers to.
You were acting as you normally did: cracking jokes, being the sweetest…and so effing cute…focus Damien. She can’t know you’re into her. At least not yet…whenever he figures out is a good time.
“You got any plans tonight?” You asked him before taking a bite of your egg roll.
“No. Honestly, I was thinking of just hanging out at home.” Damien replied with a shrug.
“Lucky.” You whined. “Courtney roped me into a blind date with her and her date and I wish I could say I was looking forward to it.”
Oh damn. You were going on a date…
“Why aren’t you looking forward to it?”
“Because the last few have been a disaster. I swear lately, I’ve been attracting jerks.”
This might be your in, Damien…
“Tinder guys aren’t exactly the pick of the litter or the best place to be looking.”
“I went on Bumble the last 2 times!” You defended with a laugh. “Still, you’re right.”
Okay, Damien. Do it. This is a good opening. All you have to say is, “then maybe you wanna go out with me instead?” that could work!
“Look maybe this one won’t be as bad as the others.
Wait, what? DAMIEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
“I don’t know. I mean, this is the first time I’ve let Courtney set me up and I don’t know what to expect.” You told him with a shrug. “Considering the last ones, I’m already preparing for the worst.”
“Don’t. For all you know, this one might be a good one and Courtney is your best friend. Who would know better?”
Seriously Damien, what the hell? Why did you decide to encourage this date?
….
Because he’s a nice guy and he would want you to be happy if this date went well.
“You’re right.” You relented. “I hate it but you’re right.”
“It’s a gift and a curse.” Damien shrugged.
=================================
The morning after your date, you and Courtney are hanging out on set with Damien, Ian and Shayne as you get ready to film a sketch.
“So yeah. It did not go well.” Courtney said, regarding the date.
“Seriously, I swear, I’m this close to swearing off guys and dates for a while.” You sighed. “All these guys want from me is sex or something stupid. I can’t find a guy who wants me for just me.”
Damien’s eyes widened and he threw a look at Shayne. Pretty much everyone gave you an exasperated look. Were you serious?
Damien swore he had made himself obvious over the past few months, especially. Part of him waited for you to notice it because for some unknown stupid reason, he couldn’t find it in himself to ask you out. He just couldn’t get the words out so he hoped if he was obvious, like his slightly longer hugs, or offering you the last of whatever food you guys shared…things like that, you would get the hint.
Courtney only set you up on the date to wake Damien up. She and Ian came up with that because they hoped it would wake Damien up. You weren’t gonna be single forever. Make a move. They found out Damien liked you because they caught on to his obvious tells.
And then there was Shayne. Once he heard once and for all from Damien, he started to really notice it when you guys hung out the past couple of days. There was no way you could be that oblivious.
“You know what, I can’t do this, this is hard to watch…” Shayne said after seeing Damien’s face after you spoke. “Y/N, I love you but you’re obliviousness is so bad. Damien likes you. And for some reason, god only knows what, he hasn’t asked you out.”
“Wait, really Damien?” You asked him curiously.
Damien’s face was so flushed you swore he was beginning to resemble a tomato. To be fair, he tried to answer you but he just couldn’t get the words out….god, what he would give to just melt into the floor or disappear right now.
“Yes.” Shayne answered for him. “You never noticed how much more he smiles at you more than any of us?”
“Or how he tends to blush every time you pay him a compliment?” Courtney added.
“Or how he seems to like every instagram picture you post?” Ian jumped in.
“Or–”
“Okay! She gets it!” Damien interrupted, his level of embarrassment heightening.
“I’m sorry, Damien but this was just getting silly.” Courtney told him.
You got lost in thought for a moment. Damien…your friend Damien liked you? How…how the hell did you not see that coming? Now that everyone pointed it out, it was so obvious…like the little things such as holding the door open for you or even laughing at the stupidest jokes you made. He was always slightly nicer to you and more playful than he was with Shayne or even Courtney. Damien liked you. Why didn’t he ever ask you out?
“I don’t know.” Damien replied to you.
“Did I ask that out loud?” You asked your friends, who nodded.
“I wanted to, I just…I would get choked up and then I’d babble like an idiot. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t.”
You lightly sighed and took hold of his hand.
“First of all, I really need to work on my observational skills. Second, Damien, you wanna go out on a date with me?” You smiled at him.
Damien’s eyes widened once more at your question. You were asking him out? Holy shit, this had to be a dream, right? God, that smile again…why were you so…you?
“Y-Yes. Yes. I would.”
“Finally!” Courtney cried out in exasperation.
“If you ever decide to marry her, do not ask us for help because we’re not doing this again.” Ian joked with Damien.

Thank you, everyone, for your words of encouragement. In this short amount of time, I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with messages of support. I want to reassure you all that I’m by no means as hurt as some of you think, or at least not after so much kindness. I’ve always encouraged all kinds of feedback!! From compliments to constructive criticism. And I’m (supposedly) an Adult™, so I can definitely take someone’s opinion.
Regardless, thank you to everyone who reached out to me. I want to respond to each and everyone of you under this post so I don’t flood other people’s dashes.

Anonymous said: about the anon who said your fics lack emotion, hmm i wouldn't quite agree tbh, i remember reading tears of a villian and deadass crying, it hurt me so much!! also, in "fall in hatred" their feeling are so well portrayed and i could understand why they acted a certain way! to conlclude, there is always some space for constructive criticism but your stories, are to me, something very attentively built and created, it's apparent that you completely enjoy writing, I can feel your enthusiasm!!
--to that anon; pls don't get this wrong way but it's just the way I see it and I've read quite a lot till now
nah deadass crying isn’t good enough anymore, anon. You have to be keening and violently sobbing until you’re brought into the ER for my fics to be considered to have emotion. lol I’m only kidding, thank you for the message.

peachiest-hun said: To that anon who said your work lacked emotions, I beg to differ! I have read Jungle Park so many times I know at exactly which chapter when the heavy angst starts happening and I read those parts when I just want to have a good cry (I still cry every. single. time)! Also Head Over Heels to Hell, The Colour of Our Voices, Love So Shallow (because I so relate with OC), and many more have given me the FEELS (happy and sad ones). 1/2
So what I'm trying to say is that Jimlingss is doing a great job in her craft. She does deliver emotions in her work and the reason I love it so much is that it's SUBTLE and not completely in your face. Sometimes emotions that are subtle and they hit you slowly, but powerfully it hurts even more for me. On another note, I'm loving Sugar and Coffee. In times of darkness which are often these days, I have something to look forward to every week to keep me motivated. So thank you Jimlinggs! 2./2
Istg Jungle Park is one of the most unexpectedly beloved fics on my blog but I love it hahaha I can’t believe you’ve read it to the point of knowing what chapter is what though. that’s an honour. There’s definitely stories of mine that are less subtle than others, but I’m glad that you enjoy the latter of them too :’) Thank you.

I wholly disagree (in the nicest way possible, not throwing any shade at anyone). I’ve read all of your fics (for the past two years) and I look forward to when you release new material (the highlight of my Mondays right now after I come home from working at a clinic). Your stories have really lifted my mood during this pandemics an

Oh my god. Did I just take your tumblr-message virginity? asdfghjkl I’m kidding. but thank you for reaching out to me. I can’t believe you’ve been around for such a long time and that I’m a part of your Monday routine :’)

Anonymous said: OK that ask about "constructive criticism" was def imo RUDE. You don't just anonymously go into someone's asks and bluntly tell an author that their fics "lack emotion". That is not the way to encourage someone to improve and continue to work hard. That's just flat out mean. That person clearly doesn't care about your feelings or the fact that you write and share your stories for FREE for us to enjoy. I love your stories and appreciate what you've shared with us. Thank you for your hard work ❤️
I like to give the benefit of the doubt to anons and anyone sending me a message online in general. God knows there were times I meant well but it was received wrongly. But anyway, my mind was more boggled than I was hurt, that’s one thing for sure.

joonie-mono said: + it was called love so shallow which genuinely made me see myself in a character, but my point was that your writing has a specific feel to it, it's made me laugh and cry (His Name personally killed me :] ) and that's my opinion. You and your writing are amazing and I'm sorry but that anon was just so wrong.
oof bringing out the evidence. be my attorney please.

Anonymous said: As someone who has read your entire masterlist (and going through it again) i will have to wholeheartedly disagree with that anon. The way you portray SO many emotions in your fics is *chefs kiss* and I honestly thought that the ones that “lack emotion” were meant to be that way, with an open ending, the idea that their love just started, soo.... yeah, I’ll have to disagree.
There are definitely stories of mine that are a bit looser on romance. Such as Kitchen Romance, The President’s Son, The Heiress’ Son, Arcadia, etc. But I have a loooot of fics that are quite emphasized in either despair/sadness or cute fluff.

ladyartemesia said: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I am here to disrespectfully disagree with anon who probably doesn’t write effing ANYTHING and has no idea what it takes to produce the content you do. I have followed for months and I’m still not through your masterlist BECAUSE reading your stories is a bloomin EMOTIONAL EVENT. When I read Brass and Strings, I LOST A WHOLE DAY. Like I was so into it, my DAY was gone. Anon is prolly salty there isn’t more smut I guess. That’s whatever for them. (Part 1)
It’s subtle, deep, meaningful, and incredible and you’re one of my favorite authors. I can’t FOR A SECOND let that comment go cause it’s RIDICULOUS. You’re literally so gifted. You don’t need to change a thing. Every artist, no matter their medium, should continue to improve. So in that sense I wish you all the growth in the world as you work towards the perfection of your craft. BUT SERIOUSLY you’re an incredible writer. That anon is loony. I’m so sorry you had to even read those crazy words.
As I answer these messages, it’s starting to feel like I’m the third party mediator of a dispute and all y’all are just HAMMERING it to this anon, LOL. I’m not sure if the anon is necessarily requesting for more smut but if they are, they might be happy this Friday (*COUGH spoiler for those actually reading my responses)
Anyway, you’re too kind. thank you. I am definitely not as hurt as I was earlier.
((and tbh you’re hilarious, you’re actually making me laugh irl))

I've never been disappointed in any of your work. You always give a heads up if it will take time for the characters to realize their feelings which I absolutely love. It always leaves me ready for the next part and I am glued to my phone with every update. You're amazing and I can't wait to see how you grow with your work. 💜😘
ASDFGHJKL PLEASEEE if it’s someone who’s worried about blowing up notifications, it’s me. To those who have notifications on I sincerely can’t fathom how often I blow up people’s phones. I digress, I always give out warnings to keep people patient since I know slow burn can be excruciating haha thank you for the message.

Not saying all negative feedback is bad. Criticism can be hard to take no matter how it's phrased, but telling a writer to be more like another writer is like telling them their style isn't good enough which is NOT helpful. Your writing is your own. If the anon wants to read fics that are like gukyi's, they can read gukyi's fics 🙄
Also I've been waiting until Sugar and Coffee is done so I can binge it all at once but avoiding spoilers from all the asks is so hard haha! I keep seeing all these good things about it and I'm SO tempted to just read it now but I've already waited this long so I don't wanna give up kfnrjrofvjskdh guess I'll reread your other fics in the meantime
The message was fine on its own but I think dragging in another writer at the end was definitely not ok. When will comparing writers end. But regardless, gukyi and I are cool with one another - i mean we wrote 100k together so it’s gonna have to take a reverse Zuko arc for us to be on bad terms lol
Anyway, oooh you’re one of those bingers. Can’t say I blame you cause I love binging myself, so it’s understandable for readers to wait till the series is over. and since you were so kind in following up your original message with two more and expressing so much appreciation for me :’), I’ll let you know that the finale of Sugar and Coffee will be posted by July 20th! by then, the entire series will be completed.

Anonymous said: Tbh i think that neither you nor that anon is wrong. Some people like it more romanticised and cheesy, some people dont. I believe that your stories are more on the realistic side of life. People (whom your characters represent) cant always be cheesy and passionate for love, there are other things in life! Maybe you're just the type who's too realistic for any hopeless romantic things like i am and it's fine. Not all writers can write dramatic romance
Tbh, I agree. It’s a matter of opinion and there’s no one wrong in the fight of opinions. As I’ve said many times on my blog, the cringe factor varies between person to person. What someone might think is fluffy is absolutely cringey to another. What someone might think is a good amount of fluff is not enough for someone else. I’ve written a lot. And I’ve made sure to add lots of variations between the amount of romance in my stories. Indeed, some are definitely more subtle and “realistic” while others are completely cheesy and makes me gag from the amount of sugar in it lol I just think the anon should take a look at more of my stories before coming up with such a conclusive opinion.

Anonymous said: I’ve been reading your fics for over a year now and religiously follow updates every week. Why? Because they make me feel something whether it be joy from fluff or grief from angst. I’ll remember a story of yours months after I first read it and return to it just to feel those emotions again. I understand that emotional responses are usually subjective but I think that anon needs to read your works again, because they sure are missing out.
I replied to that anon that they should check out more of my fics and then come back to tell me if they haven’t changed their minds, so I don’t know if they’re missing out or not lol
I don’t expect my stories to elicit emotional responses or fanatic feedback for everyone. God knows there’s been other people’s writing styles that just didn’t resonate with me no matter how hard I tried to read their stories. But all I ask is that people try. It’s fine if you give up halfway but at least try reading. That’s fair to ask, right?

I know this isn't your primary fandom, but I'm curious. What would you say are the problems with Thor: Ragnarok? For me, personally, it was the worst Thor movie. Completely unfaithful to the source material, bleeding of convenience writing and full of shoehorned bathos that killed any 'serious' moment.
Ha.. ha.. ha… ha…
I kind of was grateful no one had asked me this on Tumblr, but you just had to go for it, huh, Anon? Yeah, yeah you did, and now I have to do this. Now I have to rant. And risk getting a ton of people yelling at me for my controversial opinions.
But you know what? Quoting my good old buddy Oghren, “sod it”. This movie deserves it.
I think Ragnarok has no saving graces. It’s really that simple. I will of course elaborate on why throughout this post, but I’m really glad you believe it’s the worst Thor movie because so do I. In fact, I think it’s the worst of all the MCU, I can’t think of any I disliked more. Even the very controversial Ultron has more to its favor than Ragnarok, and that’s saying a lot.
So, where should we begin?
You’re quite right about it not being faithful to the source material, convenience writing oozes out of the screen all the time, it’s guilty of terrible humor worthy of a 14-year-old in the throes of puberty, and it’s incapable of keeping true to the previous established films in the same cycle. But there are explanations for all of this, of course.
First things first: when Thor: Ragnarok was announced, everyone was horrified and for good reason. No one who cared about Thor’s story and characters wanted to watch a horrible, nitty-gritty movie that would kill all the characters they’d grown to love over time. That’s what Ragnarok promised, initially. Remember the original design for the logo, when the movie was first announced?
Tumblr media
Yes, it looked dark. Extremely dark. It sounded like it was going to be an angst fest. And nobody likes an angst fest (not true, a lot of people do, but not enough to make up for the tickets that wouldn’t have been sold if the movie had been dark instead of humorous).
So, after promises of making this movie the be-all, end-all for the Thor franchise, suddenly the executive team behind it was changed. That’s when the very acclaimed Waititi came into the picture. Not only did he scrap everything that had been prepared for the movie, but he did so by outright removing reported elements that could have genuinely made the movie better than its predecesors.
By this I mean, there was a lot Ragnarok could have, and should have done, to improve on what the previous movies did wrong. The first of such things was creating a better bond for the audience with Asgard, with the asgardians, with the people whose world we were about to see destroyed. This bond was not entirely absent for a large portion of Thor’s fanbase: there were people who liked Thor’s friends, the Warriors Three and Lady Sif. People complained about Frigga’s fridging, not only because it was unfair that she was relegated to that kind of writing in The Dark World, but because they liked her character too.
Were Thor and Thor: The Dark World less than stellar at the box office? Okay, sure, let’s say they were. Let’s not deny that. But…
Tumblr media
The only MCU-related franchise with more content on FF.net than Thor is the Avengers. Thor has more fics on FF.net than Frozen. And if you think these fics are all from Ragnarok’s era, you’d be sorely mistaken: Thor Ragnarok came out on October 10th, 2017. I went back on the list of fics, turns out there are 422 pages: October 10th, 2017, is only the 56th page. The 56th. Please, let’s let that sink in. THAT is how much content was made for Thor before this damn movie even came along.
Don’t care for FF.net, though? I know a lot of people don’t. Do we really think AO3 will yield a considerably different result?
The “Thor (Movies)” tag features a total of 38,932 fics today. That’s thrice as much as what FF.net features. A total of 1947 pages. October 10th is at the 658th page. Again, more than half the content was written BEFORE Ragnarok. Not only this, but a lot of the content post-Ragnarok is quite likely not canon-compliant, as is typical in fanfiction (I saw quite a lot of Loki/Jane stories written after Ragnarok happened, and as anyone would know, Jane has been written out of the MCU so far, ergo the 2017-owards stories aren’t even necessarily taking Ragnarok into consideration).
Therefore, was the Thor franchise a box office failure? Man, I can’t even say if it was or wasn’t. But the fan response for Thor far outdid most everything else in the MCU. The thing is, it wasn’t the fan response Feige and the Marvel people were after. It’s basically the same concept as why Young Justice was cancelled back in the day: the target audience wasn’t responding to it as much as the audience they were actually reaching. Thor resounded the most with women, with an audience that saw a romantic hero where Feige and his cronies wanted a big buff moron who smashed on par with the Hulk. And that just wasn’t acceptable for these big executives.
Honestly, considering that the original Thor earned $449.3 million, and The Dark World earned $644.6 million, I don’t even know why they’re talked about as box office failures. Were they not as big as the other Marvel movies? I assume as much because of how people talk about them, and yet box office results that triple a movie’s budget should be far from failure. These movies were not flops. They may not have been the most successful with the critics and with a large portion of the audience, but like I said above, they generated a HUGE fan response. Bigger than many other fandoms related to the MCU (over at AO3, only Captain America beats Thor, from what I’ve seen).
So, my point is… would it have been THAT BAD to have a third movie that followed up on the previous two? Would it have been a box office flop? Considering that Marvel has a huge fanbase that watches every single movie they release without really caring about what’s in it, just because it’s Marvel, I don’t think it would have been a flop at all. Having Thor’s franchise as a less successful side of the MCU in terms of money, but more successful in terms of fanbase, would have been just fine, as far as I can tell.
But what do Feige and his buddies want? Money. And that’s why they went to Waititi.
Oh, people will say that Waititi was only an indie filmmaker, how could they know he was going to make a movie this big?! Well, the thing was, James Gunn was busy, so they had to find someone who was willing to make of Thor the same success Guardians of the Galaxy was and Waititi offered to do just that for them. Because, let’s be real: Ragnarok is practically a rip-off of Guardians of the Galaxy. Not only because of the style of the movie, not only because of the humor, but even because it’s fundamented on the notion of “unlikely team-up between different and damaged people united for the common goal of saving the world!”, which yes, you could say is the same notion that made Avengers what it was, but in Avengers there’s an actual effort to get the team together. S.H.I.E.L.D. wanted these specific superpowered people to work together to stop Loki. Here? It’s the same concept as Guardians of the Galaxy because a twist of fate, pretty much, brings all these people together by chance and they team up to put an end to a nasty threat. So, yes. Guardians of the Galaxy rip-off.
Why was it bad to recreate Thor as Guardians of the Galaxy, though? That’s what a lot of people might ask. Well, here’s the deal: you don’t expect Captain America to feature in something that feels like an Antman movie. You don’t expect Ironman to star as the protagonist in something more befitting of a Black Panther movie. Marvel movies are all largely similar in terms of how formulaic they tend to be, but they usually have their independent contexts, their IDENTITIES, and those identities aren’t easily replaced just like that.
Thor had its own identity. That identity was marked by Kenneth Branagh’s original Thor movie: it was practically Shakespeare in space. The development of the characters, its character-driven-storytelling, the organic unfolding of each situation, the understandable motivations of each characters, both heroes and villains, all of it made the original Thor something DIFFERENT in the early MCU. Ironman was the flagship of the MCU at the time, and Thor came out as a completely different story with ONE link to Ironman, in the form of Agent Coulson. Ergo, Thor stood on its own. Did it not stand as tall as the others, like I said? Big effing deal. It was its actual own thing. You could watch Thor without watching anything else and you would still get a fully-rounded movie.
Oh, but apparently it was a snoozefest for a large portion of the MCU fanbase who came here hoping to find the ten thousand action sequences from Captain America: The Winter Soldier or so. Shakespeare in space? That’s just lame! That’s just boring! Character-driven storytelling isn’t cool unless you have explosions on par with a Michael Bay movie!
Well, to such “critics”, I’ll just say: Ragnarok wasn’t exempt from making people fall asleep either. I already have heard of several people who fell asleep halfway through, and my own mother couldn’t even finish it in a single sitting because of how utterly boring and annoying she found it. She ended up enjoying Deadpool better and she usually hates gratuitous violence on principle. Enough said.
Alright, so moving on: what else comprised Thor’s original identity? Humor. Oh, sure, it wasn’t “14-year-old boy in the midst of puberty” humor, but it was still humor. How many jokes have been made about Thor’s mug-smashing? How about him asking for a large enough dog to ride? Darcy made a lot of people laugh too. Are we really going to pretend none of that happened because “Ragnarok is funnier”? Or is it everyone just forgot about those things, quite conveniently? Thor was hardly a dry, dark and gritty franchise. It’s never been like that. Pretending otherwise to justify Ragnarok’s complete shift of tone and character is absolutely ridiculous.
The Dark World borrowed from Thor’s original identity and built up from there and Avengers to create a story largely disliked by fandom and critics and pretty much everyone, apparently. Still… it had a ton of jokes. If humor was all that mattered, why the hell was The Dark World not as successful? :’D Thor hanging the hammer on the rack, Darcy tossing the keys into the crazy dimensional portal, “How’s space?” “Space is fine”, Loki’s entire prison break sequence, just about everything with Selvig? Don’t come at me now and pretend nobody found any of this funny because there were posts, memes, EVERYTHING, going around about all this. Ergo, why exactly is it that HUMOR was deemed as the one thing this franchise needed when it was ALWAYS THERE?
Thor’s franchise had its failings here and there, perhaps. Maybe they could have handled things better, like I said above. But the failings were not what Feige identified, as far as quality goes. Again, though, what we really were facing was a big ole money-grabbing scheme from a big businessman. And all the audience fell for it like lemmings leaping into nothingness.
What exactly did Ragnarok do, then, to garner my rejection, spite and absolute disapproval?
First things first, like I said above, Waititi did away with everything that gave Thor’s franchise an identity. I’m going to get this first thing out of the way, but keep in mind that this is just the start: Waititi’s movie started to make mistakes I could barely forgive it for by doing away with TWO female characters who, as I proved with the link above, one of them (Sif) was reported to have an important role in the movie before Waititi came along. The actress for the other character, Jane, had said she was “done with Marvel”, but this was misunderstood and misinterpreted by fans as “Oh Natalie Portman HATED working in Marvel SO FUCKING MUCH, that’s why they got rid of her!”, when in truth…
“As far as I know, I’m done,” she said. “I mean, I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an Avengers 7, or whatever.” She continued by saying that Thor “was a great thing to be a part of.”
Thor was a great thing to be part of. Was it just courtesy? Was it just for the press? Who the hell knows, but this hardly sounds like the VERY MUCH WORSE stuff Idris Elba said about filming the Dark World, that still warranted him returning roles in Ultron, Ragnarok and Infinity War:
“I’d just done eight months in South Africa. I came to England and the day I came back I had to do reshoots on Thor 2.” He raises an eyebrow. “And in the actual scene my hair was different, my…” He stops and gives an exasperated sigh. “I was like, ‘This is torture, man. I don’t want to do this.’ My agent said: ‘You have to, it’s part of the deal.’ ”
Idris Elba says outright, on a published interview, that working on The Dark World, that working for Marvel, is torture. And he’s still been in FIVE movies of the MCU. Please, let that sink in.
Back to the subject at hand: Natalie Portman’s reported willingness to return to the franchise implies that the popular myth that Portman didn’t want anything else to do with Marvel, as an explanation for why she was no longer involved with Thor’s franchise, is nothing but rumors without real basis. It means, ultimately, that she was kicked out just because making Thor a more romantic hero than the rest was just not the angle Feige wanted. Likewise, Thor’s other potential love interest, who was never explored as one by the movies and honestly didn’t have to be, was similarly given a very shitty deal in Ragnarok:
“I was asked, but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when Blindspot was gonna shoot — it was pretty much the same time,” Alexander told Yahoo. “So there was a conflict there.”
Things might have worked out though if Marvel had given her more lead time. “I was hoping for more of a notice from [the studio] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing,“ Alexander said. “They called and said, ‘Hey, by the way, would you come do this?’ I said there is no way I can make that work that fast.”
Alexander did try, but ultimately “It couldn’t happen. They were on a different continent!” For reference, Thor: Ragnarok was filmed in Australia.
For further reference, Jaimie Alexander’s show is filmed in New York. As far as I can remember, that was where she was when the Ragnarok call reached her. And all things considered, she was better off not showing up, seeing as the Warriors Three just died within less than five minutes of screentime for each of them. There’s absolutely nothing to say the same thing wouldn’t have happened to Sif.
Why were they absent, then? To please a large crowd of movie-goers who were very consistent about how much they disliked Jane’s character, how much they wanted her to die, how she ruined Thor entirely, and the stories go on and on. Turns out that, the one time Marvel decided to listen to their audience, they got rid of one warrior lady and one female astrophysicist. Funny how this time no feminists gave a shit about that, because Valkyrie suddenly was the strong female character they wanted for the franchise (particularly because she was POC and bisexual, I assume).
But alright, alright. These characters weren’t the most essential part of the franchise, and a new movie could have done without Jane no problem… she didn’t really have to be involved with Ragnarok, and I get that. She also didn’t need to be broken up with Thor just for this, though. Especially broken up without any onscreen evidence that their relationship was doomed or bad or unpleasant. The last we heard, Thor was absolutely proud of her: suddenly she’s just not with him anymore and he’s just fine with it, apparently? Just… why? How? Couldn’t they just ignore Jane altogether instead of breaking them up with a single line in such a stupid and insignificant way?
Either way, accepting Jane and Sif are gone is relatively bearable, despite I really don’t like this, despite it means taking away one character who was essential to the two original movies and another who was meant to finally have her turn to shine on this one. But heh, that’s only the tip of the Ragnarok iceberg.
Finally getting into the movie’s content: my first question is how was Thor in Musspelheim? How did he get there? When? Why? The movie asks these questions for humor. It expects you to laugh at Thor’s monologue just because, but it doesn’t really stop to consider that maybe it SHOULD answer those questions. That maybe the last time we saw Thor, in Ultron, was A LONG TIME AGO. And within that time, he allegedly returned to Asgard because he left through the Bifrost and he should have found Loki impersonating Odin ever since, especially if Loki is so obvious about what he’s doing.
But nothing indicates Thor really had been in Asgard since then. Not at all, because when Thor returns to the Observatory, he runs into Skrull or whatever Eomer was called here. Skrull isn’t a newcomer, he’s not only just taking the job: he’s been here long enough to fill the place with shit he stole from all over the world by using the Bifrost (something worth wondering about, since who the fuck was opening and closing the Bifrost for him when he went on these trips, exactly?), but also by using his new position to appeal to women. Thor is surprised and confused because where is Heimdall? Well, Heimdall’s been gone for a while. And Asgard’s become a big ole’ shrine to Loki. This, then, proves Thor hasn’t been home for a while or else he would have at least seen the building of statues and the sudden shift in the population into Loki worshippers. Where the hell did the Bifrost take Thor after Ultron, then? If it was indeed Asgard, how is it he only realizes NOW that Loki is the one ruling when Loki has already spent a few years on the throne and, if this is his way of ruling, it should have been fucking obvious he wasn’t Odin since day one, according to this characterization? (This, despite we saw he was pretty good at his impersonation of Odin in The Dark World, he only made a tiny mistake that Thor was unable to notice anyhow, so he should’ve fooled Thor just fine)
So, first plothole, first inconsistency, first example of convenience writing and it happens barely ten minutes into the movie. But alas, I need a detour. I really do.
Loki’s a complete and utter idiot in this movie. There’s no other way to describe him. I’ve always thought part of Feige’s frustration with the Thor franchise was Loki’s massive popularity compared with Thor’s. Not that Thor wasn’t popular, but Loki was the first villain to actually warrant a fanbase in the MCU (and although Killmonger more or less got a fair share of people fawining over him, I honestly don’t think it was on par with the Loki phenomenon). Loki committed a crime for a MCU movie: he wasn’t there just to build up the hero’s legacy, he was there to tell his own story. We saw Loki develop from an uncertain ally of Thor’s to an outright enemy, to a begrudging ally, all over the span of Thor, Avengers and Thor: The Dark World. Which Loki do I prefer? The first one, of course. Avengers didn’t do him many favors, and The Dark World also could have handled him better.
But here’s the funny thing: Avengers built him up as a villain to defeat, but that meant Loki had to be menacing, had to be smart to some degree, he had to be respectable. He was smarter in the original Thor, yes, and he’s smarter in the Dark World too, but still, he was worthy of a certain respect in all three movies in terms of how he was built as a character.
Ragnarok obliterated all that respect. Ragnarok reduced Loki to a joke, a really bad joke, about how narcissistic and egotistical he was. He wasn’t smart, he wasn’t competent, he was constantly outdone by Thor in just about every regard, and there was nothing for him to do other than provide the audience someone to laugh at, and someone to project all their LGBT headcanons on, after the way they built up his situation with Jeff Goldblum’s hedonist character. Not that they needed to do that for Loki to be interpreted as LGBT, the fics I referenced above pretty much establish he’s been interpreted as of every sexuality you can think of, all because the original myths did establish him as someone with a very complex sexual identity.
But the point is, people told me Loki was amazing in this movie. I heard so much about that, how he finally got what he deserved… he got to be a laughingstock? That’s what he deserved? Oh, wait, he got to play second fiddle for Thor and accepted that as his place in the world. Was that it? I don’t even care if Loki doesn’t get to fulfill all his ambitions and dreams of recognition: I do care that he’s reduced to nothing but that, when his character was ALWAYS MUCH MORE COMPLEX THAN THAT IN EVERY OTHER MOVIE HE SHOWED UP IN. Being told that THIS is how Loki should be handled? It’s the same as being told the Avatar comics did a brilliant job at characterizing Azula, when I’ve written a fuckton of critical posts that prove that’s not the case.
So, when you give me a Loki whose entire purpose in Asgard is to turn it into Lokiland? You give me a joke. You give me a laughingstock. You give me something unworthy of the previous stories that established his character, amidst many things, as a man desperate to find a place where he belonged, desperate to the point where he could commit heinous acts to fulfill his quest, which is what made him a villain in the original film. And why, oh, why would anyone do such a thing?
Well, that’s because Taika Waititi had the brilliant idea of making Thor: Ragnarok as a standalone movie. I’m not kidding, it’s all right here:
“To be honest, what I did was I tried to approach it as if there were no other films.” Waititi explained. “I wanted to make this a standalone film. I loved Thor 1and Thor 2, but if I was going to make this film my own, I couldn’t have come in and tried to make a follow up movie, to try to make the next episode. I wanted to do my own thing.”
He says he loved the first two movies, but I question that’s true. Someone who loved the original movies would have likely avoided a fuckton of mistakes Waititi made in Ragnarok, mistakes that anyone who actually gave a crap about the first movies would have considered utterly ridiculous. When Waititi decided to build Ragnarok as a standalone, he did away with EVERY SINGLE CONCEPT ESTABLISHED FOR THOR IN THE MCU.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
First Thor movie: Thor’s character is established as an arrogant guy who would send his world to war just because his pride was injured. This arrogant guy gets his power stripped away from him, as punishment for his irresponsible behavior, and it’s not until he reflects on his actions and eventually takes a step forward to stop the Destroyer when he was at his most vulnerable, that Thor finally becomes worthy of his powers again. His attempt to reason with Loki works, but he pays for it with his life, pretty much, until his powers return to him.
So… how is this situation soooo different from Ragnarok’s big fight against Hela? I’ll tell you how: Thor actually displays vulnerability in the original movie, something that hits home much deeper than “OMG I HAVE UNLIMITED POWER INSIDE ME, I DON’T NEED MY HAMMER!”. His pleas to Loki have the intent to SPARE his friends, to spare an entire town of people who don’t know him and probably never will. His fight with Hela has no pleas. He just gets his eyeball plucked out and is forced to watch Hela destroy his city just so he can rage into talking with Odin (if I recall right) and then go Super Saiyan. Because, uh, the power was always inside him!
After an original movie where the power was in choices, in the choice of sacrificing himself for everyone else, Ragnarok is a movie about obtaining literal power to smash your enemy with. You tell me which is more complex and compelling for an intelligent audience.
Oh, but was it deeper in other senses? The talk about colonization and culture erasure and all that was something so new to this franchise!!!
No. It fucking wasn’t.
Movie one opens with a story about the Frost Giants terrorizing the humans and the Asgardians taking them down. The story didn’t end there, though: the story continued when we visit Jotunheim with Thor to discover it’s a completely nasty ruin, as though they haven’t recovered at all from the war and everything Asgard took from them, including a treasure as valuable for them as the Casket of Winters or whatever it was called. And amidst what Asgard took is Loki: how much clearer can the message get? Odin STOLE Jotunheim’s prince for the chance of using him to broker peace between the realms when he deemed Loki ready for said task. He took Loki as a baby and yes, raised him, but he saw that child and thought he was looking in the face of an opportunity. You’re going to tell me that’s not more meaningful, that doesn’t drive in deeper the message about how harmful this sort of colonialist and supremacist culture is (Loki was raised to think his own people were monsters, driven to madness to the extreme where he was going to exterminate his own people just to show his father that he was a worthy son? Seriously, how were there no attempts to interpret this from a post-colonialist point of view, but there are for Ragnarok?), than some dumbass exposition scene with some old paintings in walls where oh noes, turns out Odin KILLED PEOPLE?!
BIG FUCKING DEAL!
WE’VE KNOWN THAT SINCE THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF THOR’S ORIGINAL MOVIE!
Just, how the hell is this a big damn surprise to ANYONE? ESPECIALLY TO THOR! He was willing to destroy Jotunheim because they ruined his parade: HE WAS DOING IT TO FOLLOW ODIN’S EXAMPLE. THE ORIGINAL MOVIE NEVER SHIED AWAY FROM THIS.
Oh but the surprise is that Odin had a daughter he locked away and hid from the world because he was ashamed of what he’d done? Just… how was he ashamed? When did we see Odin ASHAMED in the previous movies? As much as they tried to portray him as mellowed out, he always acted like everything had been necessary for peace. He outright says in The Dark World that he will immolate Asgard in its entirety if need be to defeat the Dark Elves. Please, how are we genuinely pretending NOW that Odin was hiding any of what he’d done, any of what he was capable of, from Thor or from Loki or from just about anyone?
This is also the part where the original myths and themes of Norse Mythology start to debunk Ragnarok with astounding ease. Original myths that, surprise surprise, the first two movies abide by with much more respect than Ragnarok ever could.
Norse mythology is complex and rich and arguably the second most recurrent mythology in popular culture right after Greek mythology (I reckon Egyptian used to be the second but has dropped in popularity in recent years). I am far from an expert with Norse mythology, I actually am most confident with Celtic mythology, in particular the Irish Mythological Cycle, but that’s not the point: anyone who hears about Norse mythology is likely to have heard about the characters we met in Thor, and about the afterlife according to these myths.
Death in Norse mythology can lead people to different places, not too differently from how it is in other mythologies. Let’s see what the lands of the dead are like:
Valhalla is an afterlife destination where half of those who die in battle gather as einherjar, a retinue gathered for one sole purpose: to remain fit for battle in preparation for the last great battle, during Ragnarök. In opposition to Hel’s realm, which was a subterranean realm of the dead, it appears that Valhalla was located somewhere in the heavens.
Hel’s realm is separated from the world of the living by a rapid river across which leads the Gjallarbrú that the dead have to pass. The gates are heavy, and close behind those who pass it and will never return again. Hel is the final destination of those who do not die in battle, but of old age or disease.
As these two are the only ones that matter for this movie, I figured I’d bring these up. There are of course thousands of various interpretations on how these afterlifes work, and some people say it’s not so cut and dry, but in general, it’s understood that Valhalla is pretty much an honor.
This honor was extended to Frigga in The Dark World. The only good thing about her death in that movie was that it established HOW death works in the MCU’s Asgard. She died in battle: she was given the greatest honor and sent to rest in Valhalla. The land of heroes who die in battle, fighting for their own.
Hel, on the other hand, should be the afterlife for those who die in less worthy ways, meaning, not in combat. Death in combat is considered one of the greatest honors in Norse culture, from what I’ve understood from all the stories I’ve seen that are set in Norse or Viking settings, and not dying in combat wasn’t a favorable prospect for just about anyone. Deaths outside of combat are, of course, accidental deaths, diseases, old age, you name it.
Hel should be connected to Hela, the character from Ragnarok. Hela should preside over Hel, the unwanted afterlife for so many people who would rather die in a much worthier way.
Hel showed up once before in the MCU, by the way. In the very controversial and despised Ultron. And no, I’m not talking about Thor’s weird-as-fuck delirium about Asgard. I mean in this particular dialogue…:
Natasha Romanoff: Thor, report on the Hulk?Thor: The gates of Hel are filled with the screams of his victims.[Natasha glares at Thor and Banner groans in despair]Thor: Uh, but, not the screams of the dead, of course. No no, uh…wounded screams, mainly whimpering, a great deal of complaining and tales of sprained deltoids and, and uh… and gout.
Gates of Hel. That’s a direct reference to actual mythology. He could have said that Hel was full of Hulk’s victims, just like that, but he outright references the GATES. Ergo… Thor knows Hel exists.
PLEASE LET THAT SINK IN.
When you arrive at Ragnarok, Hela is a complete mystery for Thor. Oh, you can come up with whatever in-world explanation you care to, I honestly wouldn’t bother making up one to begin with: Ragnarok is built on the premise of defeating Hela, Thor’s scary sudden sister he had no notion of, who was locked away in some weird ass prison and who happens to be called Hela, but has no connection with Hel.
None.
Why do I say this?
Because her powers allegedly are connected to Asgard.
Allegedly.
Can someone please explain why should Hel’s powers have a connection with Asgard when there was such a bloody obvious possibility in making Hel the realm she’s connected to? She’s the goddamn REGENT of Hel! That’s not even up for debate in Norse Mythology, out of all the things that can be debated! But instead her power comes from the LIVING? It comes from VIOLENTLY KILLING WARRIORS WHO FIGHT AND DIE DEFENDING THEIR HOMELAND HONORABLY?
I’m going to outright say it: Hela should have gained NOTHING from a militaristic approach at attacking and destroying Asgard. If the plan was to make Hela a big shock for everyone, a plot twist… she should have spread disease and old age through Asgard. And then people die dishonorably.
And they end up in her realm.
And she could enslave them and use their souls to fuel her own power or so.
Please, do tell… how is this not a much more myth-compliant approach than “Oh lookie she’s just this SUPER BADASS FIGHTER! And she can take down ENTIRE ARMIES all on her own by FIGHTING!” How isn’t this more consistent with what was already established by the MCU? (oh wait, Waititi doesn’t care to keep things consistent, I forgot…)
Man, I’ve played Dragon Age: Origins a fuckton of times by now and one of the saddest and truest things I’ve seen in it, which connects with my own reality, is one of the riddles on your way to the Urn of Andraste: how did Andraste and the Maker destroy the Imperium’s army? Through FAMINE. Through HUNGER. What’s more disgraceful than living to EAT? Nothing feels more dehumanizing, and I can tell you that just fine considering that in hyperinflation that’s EXACTLY what venezuelans like myself live like right now.
Why didn’t Hela starve Asgard, then? Why didn’t she do something that Asgardians simply couldn’t FIGHT against, seeing as that’s all they know how to do?
Oh, again, because Thor is an ACTION HERO! That is the identity Feige and Waititi HAD to build for him! That’s what he ALWAYS was supposed to be!
I’m going to share now one of my favorite things about both Thor and The Dark World: the way Thor finishes his final battles.
In the first film, Thor defeats Loki by destroying the Bifrost. He uses Mjöllnir to destroy someTHING, not someONE. Hammers can be used to build and destroy, Thor used it to destroy at that particular point in time. By destroying, he stopped the chaos Loki was unleashing with the Bifrost and saved an entire realm.
The Dark World? Thor isn’t the one who comes up with the way to defeat Malekith, since it’s Jane who makes the wacky portable portals stuff. Nonetheless, Thor is the one out in the fray, fighting the big bad… but how did he take down OP Aether-addled Malekith? Not by shoving a fuckton of lightning into his face, he already tried that and failed. Nope: he nailed the device Jane built. He nailed it right into the motherfucker’s chest. And then Malekith gets portaled away and killed by his own ship. Again, it’s not Thor using POWER to kill his enemy, it’s Thor using a hammer’s natural damn use to his favor. It’s Thor using his BRAIN.
THOR.
USING HIS BRAIN.
THINKING SHIT THROUGH.
USING HIS AVAILABLE RESOURCES TO FINISH A FIGHT EFFECTIVELY.
NOT POWERING THROUGH EVERYTHING LIKE A DURACELL BATTERY ON DRUGS.
People out there who complain about how Infinity War gave Thor an axe instead of letting him be powerful all on his own piss me off, I won’t lie. Because Mjöllnir was NOT a crutch for Thor. It was a tool, in all senses of the word. It’s like pretending Doctor Strange’s cloak is the secret to all his powers. The entire first movie is about showing Thor that the hammer, that POWER, does NOT define him: why the FUCK did he have to lose it in Ragnarok, and suffer about it like he’d never been parted from the hammer when it happened just the same in the first damn movie? Hell, the first movie stole ALL his lightning and thunder-related powers and he STILL managed to find true worth in who he was after that! He still learned what he needed to learn to be worthy of his hammer again! This movie, though? It rewards Thor for losing Mjöllnir, ZERO GROWTH OR DEVELOPMENT NEEDED BECAUSE FUCK IT, HE DIDN’T LEARN A DAMN THING IN THIS MOVIE by making him superpowerful just because it could. And Thor ends up winning the day without using a hammer in the way a hammer should be used, breaking with the pattern of the two previous movies: again, the identity of the original movies gets tossed away completely.
It’s not cool. It’s not amazing. It’s devoid of all meaning. Thor losing his eye just like his daddy before him? Another piece of crap devoid of meaning. Thor didn’t need to lose a goddamn eye to be “parallel” to his father, because he’s already in the position where he has to take charge of Asgard to become king, and nothing’s a more apparent parallel than that.
Funny comparison time: did you watch Lion King 2? A lot of people think it sucks but when I was little I looooved that thing with the force of a thousand suns. Now, if you did watch it, remember Kovu? Remember the part where Zira scars him, leaving him to look just like Scar? The drama at that point is that Kovu has been groomed all his life to kill Simba, just like Scar killed Mufasa. He was “chosen” for the job, and all his similarities with Scar not withstanding, Kovu’s growth pushes him to NOT WANT TO FOLLOW ON SCAR’S FOOTSTEPS.
So, when he gets the same scar but acts entirely differently from how Scar would have? When he chooses to love rather than to hate? When he takes a stand for peace rather than to further stir up war? He’s choosing to be different from the lion whose example he’s been forced to follow all his life!
When Thor fights Hela… what does he do that is in any sense different from what Odin would have done, in his shoes? Could someone perhaps enlighten me? He fights Hela, he doesn’t extend a hand to her and offer her a second chance. He fights to defeat her, he gets Loki to unleash Surtur on Asgard and destroy it with Hela in it. Oh, wow, he distanced himself SO MUCH from Odin’s legacy by, uh, destroying his homeland and killing his sister. That’s not so different from locking Hela up for eons, let alone so different from saying that he would sacrifice as many asgardian lives as were needed to end the threat of Malekith.
Oh, but Thor saved lives, didn’t he? Sure he did!
No, he didn’t. Fucking Heimdall was the one worried about protecting people. Who the hell would have saved them if Heimdall hadn’t been there? Who the hell would Thor have saved if Heimdall hadn’t protected people and created that weird underground refugee site? If Thor had arrived and Heimdall and his people had been caught all along, who the fuck would he have saved? NO ONE.
Also, this concept of “Thor saving a few civilian lives WHILE MILLIONS GET SACRIFICED” might as well apply to Odin’s destruction of other cultures because of how they threatened Asgard too. Heck, Bor’s destruction of the Dark Elves is presented in the same light too in The Dark World. Ragnarok attempts to make people feel bad about all the deaths in the shallowest way I’ve seen, because for one thing, it tries to criticize the previous movies by being oh so shocked by Odin’s massacres when everyone and their uncle KNOWS that Odin’s been killing cultures and worlds and things since day fucking one. But it basically spits upwards when it says “Asgard is its people, not a place” and… kills the majority of the people, along with the place. Just… what the hell was even the point of pretending Asgardians would be refugees rebuilding elsewhere when, on top of it all, they all died in Infinity War anyhow?
Now, let’s think about it: how many named asgardians do we know who survived Ragnarok? We know Thor, Heimdall and Valkyrie. Loki is a honorary asgardian, I suppose, so let’s say he counts. Who else? Oh, damn, no one. I’m all out.
And THIS is where Ragnarok was always supposed to improve on the rest of the Thor movies. THIS. Because in a movie that was going to kill the Warriors Three, Sif, Odin and as many asgardians as they could, you had the reasonable obligation to make the audience GIVE A SHIT. Constant criticism for the original Thor movies by less passionate fans is that they didn’t care about any characters aside from Thor, Loki and Heimdall (cue my surprise when they all survive Ragnarok, it’s almost like it was fanservice, oh my!), and that Asgard was BORING.
Ragnarok should have tried its best to make Asgard less boring. It should have tried to make the less popular characters relevant, interesting, valuable…
What did it do? Killed them all. Every warrior dead. Sif would be dead too, if Jaimie Alexander hadn’t been too busy to go to Australia. Every last one of them would be dead. And as for Asgard? As for the place we should see Thor cares about soooo much?
We saw more of Asgard in The Dark World, of their customs, of their complexities, and the majority of the movie is spent elsewhere. We saw more of Asgard, obviously, on the original Thor, where half the movie is spent there. Ragnarok’s response to that, though, is to practically spend the entire fucking movie in a literal trash planet, because getting out of there was so very vital to the movie! When, uh, ending up there was already a fucking pointless waste of time in the first place.
Let’s think about it: why exactly did we need our heroes to end up there? Hulk could have crash-landed somewhere in Asgard. Valkyrie could have been an actual Valkyrie, not a cast-out drunk trying to forget her days of glory and misery. We could have seen THE Valkyries in action, gearing up to fight a serious threat, and people would be fawning about such a huge damn female army, on par with Wonder Woman’s amazons…!
But no. We went to a trash planet instead, all to make a shitty version of Planet Hulk, which yes, I haven’t read, but the people I know who did read it say it was a complete disservice to a story that was so much more complex and serious than the trash heap we were given through Ragnarok.
And, most importantly… all to make the movie FUN. All so Thor could have something else to do while everyone died in Asgard. All so he could indeed be incompetent as defender of his realm because in the end he couldn’t save most of them. And it didn’t even matter to him that he didn’t, that’s yet another thing that pisses me off: he mourns his father a lot, spends the movie bitter and angry that Odin had died just so he can have an understandable reason to be pissed at Loki, and sure, he wants to go back to Asgard and save his people from his sister. But I can’t remember him seeming genuinely concerned about what fate awaited his friends and the people he ruled. Of course, neither did Loki, but as Loki was portrayed as an egotistical maniac the whole movie, it’s no surprise. Our hero, though, should have a bigger heart than this, right? He did before, didn’t he? He did everything in his power to get Malekith to leave Asgard alone, including risking the life of the woman he loved, no less!
But naaaaah, in Ragnarok he did a lot for his people, uh-huh, sure as fuck. That’s why he spent all his time in trashland making jokes and having fun except for most the time he was dealing with Loki, because by then he got pissed because Odin’s death is all his fault. Just like Frigga’s death. Just like everything because Loki sucks and Thor is forever mad at him. Thing really is, he has pressure to leave, but you don’t really feel it going by his attitude. If everyone you knew and loved were about to die by the hand of your unknown sibling, would you be chill, trying and failing to flirt with a girl by tossing a ball to a wall so it can hit you right back?
Thor’s entire character in Ragnarok is cringeworthy. This isn’t just because he was so vastly different from who he was back in the other two films, it’s because of how he acts, how he behaves. How he takes next to nothing seriously, starting from Surtur, all the way to Asgard’s destruction. This is the man who was actually characterized for FOUR films as someone with a sense of humor, but with a strong sense of duty and honor that makes him an even better man than Steve Rogers (reminder of the hammer scene in Ultron, Rogers can’t quite lift the hammer yet, Thor’s supposed to be a worthier man than him, according to whatever criteria Mjöllnir uses). And here? Here he just jokes around, he wastes his time, he acts like a complete bufoon as he has stupid arguments with Hulk and deals with Jeff Goldblum, and flirts with Valkyrie, and outsmarts Loki (hell knows how, considering how incredibly idiotic Thor felt through this entire movie, but that’s how stupid Loki was in it too).
The ideal way to compare how Thor was written in the original films and in this one is the romance. Where in the previous movies Thor is charming, confident, treats women with respect (he supported Sif in her efforts to prove herself on par with any man, he encourages her to survive and live to tell her stories herself, he listens to Jane’s explanations about space and offers his own stories when she wants to hear them, and so on), in Ragnarok he meets Valkyrie and acts like, again, a 14-year-old fanboy who just met the celebrity he faps to every night in his bedroom. He’s nervous, he’s giddy, he’s trying, TRYING to impress her! Before anyone chimes in to say he’s meeting his hero, of COURSE he’d be nervous… please, no. Thor is a goddamn prince, as good as a king already. Thor has met countless people in his life and treated them all with the same amount of respect. He has NO REASON to dumb himself down and behave like a fanboy with Valkyrie. It wasn’t cute. It wasn’t funny. It was absolutely out of character, that’s what it was. For he wouldn’t be trying to flirt with her, let alone so poorly, even if he’s interested in her romantically. No, he would respect her, first and foremost. He would admire her without seeming a complete idiot in the process, the same way he did with Jane. He wouldn’t be trying to impress her by acting like he’s cool, but coming off as an idiot, because he supposedly grew out of his stupid arrogance all the way in movie 1. But naaaaah, not when he meets VALKYRIE! Nope, because she’s SPESHUL!
Give me a break.
I’m sure there’s more about Thor, but I think I’ll leave him alone for now. I already did my piece on Loki earlier, so now… two newcomers.
Valkyrie bothers me. No, it has nothing to do with Valkyrie breaking the stereotypical blonde warrior aesthetic that people expect from Norse mythology stuff, because hell, Heimdall doesn’t bother me and never did just because he’s not aryan. Honestly, it doesn’t matter in the least what color they are.
What does matter with Valkyrie is that her change of heart and motivations make absolutely no sense.
When we first meet her she’s just scavenging trash to drag to Jeff Goldblum. She’s drunk, but she’s tough as nails and she gets everything done anyways. Is it ideal? No. It feels insulting, even, considering this is how the movie chooses to portray a valkyrie and its only heroic female character. But whatever, let’s move forward…
When Thor realizes what and who she is, he goes fanboy mode. Valkyrie dismisses all reminders of her past life, and as far as I can remember, she did that at least twice. Maybe thrice, I can’t recall that much. When Thor asked her why she didn’t want to help him save Asgard, her answer directly implies she remembers perfectly well what happened the last time she dealt with Hela and she is still too grief-ridden about it to bother fighting her again. Thor throws a tantrum, Valkyrie still refuses to go along with him, all ends just like that.
But when Loki does the ONLY useful thing he did in the entire movie, as in, hi-jacks Valkyrie’s memories and makes her relive everything, she changes her mind. Why?
Oh, because she reclaimed her past? Because she had forgotten it? BULL.FUCKING.SHIT. Valkyrie didn’t forget JACKSHIT about her past! The answer she gives Thor, initially, shows very clearly that she remembers EVERYTHING and refuses to go back anyhow. Because Hela is too powerful for her to defeat. But one forceful blast to the past makes Valkyrie not only NOT feel violated, which honestly blows me away, sure she hit Loki afterwards but I wouldn’t exactly be so chill after someone got inside my head and forced me to relive my worst memory, but it makes Valkyrie decide that she wants to help Thor now.
WHY?!
There is NOTHING reasonable that has changed since she told Thor what she did. NOTHING! She didn’t come to a conclusion such as “well shit my life sucks badly enough here, I might as well go die”, nor does she have a heartfelt conversation with Thor about how hard this is for her but that maybe she can correct the mistakes of her past if she helps him out now. No, man, this movie doesn’t need anyone to have believable behaviors or motivations, because Valkyrie needs to join Thor so she can play the Gamora to his cheap Peter Quill, and if her brain needs to be bent backwards to join this team, so be it.
Again, let’s put things into perspective: was there ANY need for Valkyrie’s character to be exactly what it was? Why couldn’t she be the only line of defense in Asgard to endure against Hela’s attack, for instance? She’s presented to us as the only representative of this really cool elite group of fighters… and she’s just doing Jeff Goldblum’s dirty work. Please… can someone tell me what was the point of doing this?
Ah, wait, I know: COMEDY. Because that was the priority established by Waititi and who knows who else, because that’s what mattered most. So, was it fun to have a serious warrior lady kicking ass in Asgard? Nah, it was fun to make her a drunkard who’d fall over sideways when collecting Thor for Goldblum because she’s drunk. Haha. Funny.
Valkyrie is wasted potential. That’s the truth of it. She could have been amazing, but as it is, I find Sif a thousand times more interesting than Valkyrie because at least with Sif I can see where she’s coming from, I can understand her storyline even without her ever being at the forefront of any movie. Question now, why did it have to be Valkyrie? Why couldn’t Sif be the one helping Thor in Ragnarok? Fucking hell, why couldn’t it be BOTH of them? Aside from the obvious “we forgot Sif existed until ten seconds before filming the deaths of all of Asgard’s warriors” explanation, it’s because you can’t make the Guardians of the Galaxy formula work with well-rounded individuals, Nope, you need broken people. And what’s more broken than a warrior who lost her will to fight? Who lives to drink, like my good buddy Oghren who I mentioned back when this post began?
Valkyrie, then, is not a full-rounded character. She’s more convenience writing. She’s a happy coincidence for Thor, because woah, what are the odds that the ONE PERSON WITH ASGARDIAN PAST would find him in trashland? They’re not good. In fact, they’re pretty bad. But that’s what the movie needed, so that’s what the movie got. And how do you get her to change her mind about fighting when she’d given up? By convenience writing. Not even a pep talk, like what Jyn Erso got in Rogue One from her dad, which made her switch flip completely and she did a 180° regarding her opinion of the war and battles between the Empire and Rebels. I complained a bit about Jyn changing her mind so easily… but compared to Valkyrie? Jyn made a fuckton more sense than that. At least you could see where she was coming from when she changed her mind. At least you could say a fiber of her being was touched by her father’s words. Valkyrie was touched by Loki’s invasion of her mind? By what, exactly? By Waititi twisting her character over because otherwise his GOTG team-up wouldn’t work?
The absolute worst part of Ragnarok is realizing that, as a cheap rip-off of GOTG, it failed not only to hold up the identity of any Thor film before this one, it failed to imitate GOTG properly. GOTG felt organic, this feels forced. GOTG felt like a good story to tell, because it was a group of renegades, pretty much, saving the entire galaxy even though they’re nobodies, even though they’re as good as mercenaries, even though they’re a team brought together by what feels like random factors (but it’s not that random because, as a reminder, all of them minus Drax were after the Orb, and in the break-out Drax joins them because he hopes they can help him fulfill his quest for revenge). Everyone in GOTG has reasons to fight, though, reasons to work together. They seem to barely stand each other, but they’re convenient for one another at the start and they bear with it.
Ragnarok fails to achieve GOTG’s success in terms of storytelling because Ragnarok featured Thor as good as begging everyone to help him. Reluctant team-ups like GOTG’s are achieved by having two or more characters work together for a common goal, or for goals that they can only achieve with each other’s help (I have used the same resource in writing in the past plenty if times as it is). But when you have to feature a character BEGGING others to work with him, this formula doesn’t elicit the same feeling. It doesn’t result in “wow, look at all these unlikely heroes working together”, it results in “aw look at ‘em helping the little guy who needed them”. Thor offers everyone a chance to fight a battle that, in general, doesn’t concern them. Hulk has nothing to gain from fighting Hela. Valkyrie has no reason to fight her again, as she’d given up and displays no believable motivation to go for a rematch. Loki does have reason to fight, but Thor doesn’t trust him and it’s not until the last 10 minutes of the movie that Thor finally trusts Loki again, just because Loki is doing exactly what Thor wanted him to.
Give me a Valkyrie who has spent AGES looking for Hela through the universe, hoping to fight her, and upon hearing she’s back, she wants revenge. Give me a Thor who tells her “hey, maybe you can avenge your fallen comrades, but there are a lot of people who are still alive that we have to save too. Maybe revenge isn’t the only thing that matters”, and then Valkyrie reasons with what her motivations had been. Give me a more HUMANE Valkyrie, and that way she won’t be here merely to fulfill the typical and criticized “strong female character” trope, whose entire character arc revolves around being a cool fighter and being the object of admiration/affection/love interest of the main character, because newsflash, that’s what happened with her. The so very despised trope of “strong female character”, right here with Valkyrie.
Was Sif any better? Why, yes, I’d say so. Because Thor didn’t want her. Because she was only friends with him, because her life as a warrior took priority over any romantic interests she might have. Because her eagerness to go down in history in GLORY makes her near suicidal in movie 1, to the point where Thor has to make her snap out of it and force her to understand her life is worth more than the stories she wants people to tell about her in death. THAT is a character. THAT is a genuinely interesting female character, who got snubbed in all the films she featured and even in the one where she didn’t, precisely because she didn’t. Because her strength has flaws, because she’s not invulnerable, because she’s prone to failure, because she has loyalties, because she lives to serve her people. Sif is Valkyrie done right. Valkyrie is, like I said, a “strong female character”. And no, that she’s bisexual makes no damn difference, especially when said bisexuality is only known to people who follow Tessa Thompson on Twitter and general fans who look for information on characters outside of the movies themselves. Either way, if she had been shown making out with a girl onscreen that wouldn’t make a difference: she’s still only here to beat people up and to be a potential love interest for Thor, because if she’d had believable, understandable, EXPLORED motivations, she’d be more than that. But she doesn’t. Her entire character revolves around those two things. And that’s a failure in my eyes.
Finally… Hela. Why is Hela a terrible villain, on par with losers like Obadiah Stane, Malekith, the cheap excuse for Baron Zemo from Civil War, Darren Cross… honestly, spare me naming them all because frankly the only ones I wouldn’t lump together with the bulk of Marvel’s villains are Loki and Vulture, but my point is, Hela was all about appearances, all about the acting pedigree of Cate Blanchett, and nothing about making her into a decent villain. Why’s that?
I’ve talked in the past about why Marvel’s villains generally fail, and it’s because they’re not built to be characters but foils. Marvel’s not so subtle approach at storytelling holds a certain principle at its very highest, and said principle is that the story is about the HERO. The villain can’t be more developed than the hero, else you’re failing the movie’s purpose. Only a few of their movies failed at this (I can only think of Thor and Black Panther as examples of not keeping true to this precept), everything else does it just fine. Why, though? Because the villains are completely generic. Because they’re here to further someone else’s storyline, and not to have one of their own.
Loki had his own storyline in his first movie. You watch his ENTIRE thought process through Thor, you see that he didn’t start off with the “I’m going to annihilate Jotunheim!” idea, it’s something that builds up as the story unfolds. You meet Loki as a troublemaker, capable of very chaotic messes such as what happens during Thor’s failed coronation, but he’s not stupid. He’s not trying to cause a war, he’s just sabotaging his brother because, curiously, Loki is right about Thor at this point in time: Thor is NOT fit to be king, and Odin agrees eventually. The simplest provocation caused Thor to wage war on an entire realm, just because he wanted to rule Asgard RIGHT NOW. Loki’s mischief revealed this about Thor, but it wasn’t done with the intent to completely ruin Thor’s life: Thor’s reaction to Loki’s scheme is what reveals that he’s not ready to rule at all.
It’s especially clear when you recall that Loki ends up facing the truth about himself during the fight in Jotunheim: Loki has no idea what his true heritage is. He knows he’s been sidelined and treated differently, but he has no clue what’s up. Where Black Panther features a Killmonger who has already come to terms with his heritage and his connection with Wakandan royalty, Thor treats us to the ENTIRE PROCESS of Loki’s slow but certain collapse. He starts off fine, but he ends up losing all sight of who he is, of everything that matters, because his parents weren’t his parents, because he was lied to all his life, because his brother was favored over him all along and NOW, in front of us, he has come to understand why.
Loki’s entire journey parallels Thor’s. Where Loki grows more unhinged, Thor is humbled and grows into letting the goodness in him shine, in letting the better traits that make him a decent man pull through while he lets go of his arrogance and his belief that he’s entitled to a throne and to everything he could ever want. Their journeys happen simultaneously, and THAT is unique to any Marvel movies. You don’t see that anywhere else. THAT is what made Thor so successful with fans: it wasn’t JUST Thor’s story, it was Loki’s too. The Dark World at least gave Loki the courtesy of a small arc of his own. Ragnarok? Jokes at his expense and a diva complex that resulted in him coming back to help Thor merely because that would mean he would be regarded as hero and savior to Asgard. How is it not cringeworthy?
But that’s not what I was trying to get to, nope. No, my point was Hela: what was the purpose of Hela, in the end?
Ragnarok, traditionally, is brought upon the world by Loki. He’s the one who supposedly ends the entire world, causes the massive fight of the gods and wreaks havoc comparable to the Christian Apocalypse. But Loki can’t do that in Ragnarok because he has too much of a fanbase and can’t be guilty for such heinous crimes, can he? Nope.
Let’s, instead, find someone else to blame everything on. Are there other options for this role? Surtur, Amora, maybe? Oh, no! Let’s go with Hela! Who IS Hela, anyways?
In one iteration of the comics, Hela is LOKI’S DAUGHTER. Never, from my understanding, was Hela anyone’s sister, let alone Thor and Loki’s. Is it that terrible to make her Loki’s daughter? Well, yes, because that’d mean Loki would have to know of her existence and that would cause more problems than Waititi wanted to handle (plus, gives too much protagonism to Loki, and he certainly did not want THAT!). So, Hela had to be something else. She had to be something personal for Thor too, but making her an old flame would be too much (despite uh from what I read she even had a kid with Thor in one iteration of the comics? So it wouldn’t have been completely out of left field?), because we don’t want Thor having multiple romances, we don’t even want him having a full romance, because that’s why the first movies failed! Nope, that can’t do.
Oh, wait a minute, I know! Let’s make Hela Thor’s SECRET SISTER! AHAHA, PERFECT! Because it’s not like he already had a brother in black-and-green clothing who was snubbed and given a shitty deal by their dad and who came back from said betrayal by Odin to destroy everything Thor holds dear. It’s such NOVEL storytelling, so unique! So unexpected! We totally never have seen this story told before!
Hela is a cheap rip-off of the original Loki. Just as the entire movie is a rip-off of GOTG. Hela TRIES, so very hard, to be as impressive and imposing as Loki originally was. Hela fails. Why?
Because for one thing, she’s a crappy retelling of Loki’s story. She has nothing new. She’s not impressive in any regards because she does nothing unexpected, nothing that makes her ANYTHING aside from a bad villain Thor needs to defeat. Loki was Thor’s friend and brother once: Hela generates no such conflict because she could easily be Odin’s former slave rather than daughter and the story would be the same. She could have literally ANY relationship to Thor and nothing would change. Why? Because her being Thor’s biological sister does NOTHING for the story. It creates no bond between them, because the bond that existed between Thor and Loki was established during AGES of growing up together. Hela has no such thing, ergo, you can’t pretend that her being Thor’s sister will amount to anything just because Odin handled her poorly (newsflash, Odin has been handling shit poorly since the first time he showed up in the MCU and most of Thor’s problems in his movies come from that, ergo this is, again, nothing new).
For another thing, Hela is here to take Loki’s place as the complicated family member Thor needs to get in line. Hela is, I theorize, Waititi’s wish fulfillment for what he’d like to have done to Loki but couldn’t because he needed to be around to keep his fanbase appeased and buying tickets for the movie. Hela, though, was new. Hela was irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. Hela could turn into all of Loki’s “evil” and “chaotic” impulses, while Loki is reduced to narcissism and cheap comedy, and this way Hela is turned into a cartoon villain who’s only here to break everything because she allegedly obtains her power by doing so.
I already got into it before, but I guess I’ll do it again: Hela’s connection to Asgard is absolutely idiotic. There’s an entire damn realm named after her, connected to her. It’s like saying Hades from Greek Mythology obtains his powers from the Olympus. Or like saying Satan derives his powers from Heaven. No. That makes no effing sense. Therefore, destroying Asgard to destroy Hela feels stupid, and defies all logic. But they needed Hela to cause a catastrophe in Asgard, otherwise you can’t justify destrying Asgard by using Loki to, HAHAHA, HONOR THE ORIGINAL MYTHOLOGY, HAHAHAHA, AFTER ALL THIS TIME OF SHITTING ON IT AND UNDERSTANDING NONE OF ITS CONCEPTS, NOW THEY WANT TO HONOR IT, IT’S THE ONLY FUNNY JOKE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE!
It’s bad enough that the movie fucks over Loki’s character as it does, but it attempts to make him a good, dutiful brother who steals the Tesseract from the vaults but still takes Surtur to the funky flame thing. The destruction of Asgard is ultimately done by Loki, but not really, no, it was Surtur. And not really, no, it was because Thor asked Loki to. So, in the end, it’s actually Thor who killed Asgard and his sister. But um, they were being faithful to the myths, sure.
Hela is a failure of a villain as usual for Marvel. Her story is presented via exposition, via TELL, NOT SHOW. We don’t witness the crumbling relationship between her and Odin because that would have required for her to exist since the first movies. No, we are told all about how Odin used her as his ideal tool to KILL PEOPLE!!!1 (I think I raged enough about this before, didn’t I…?) and then locked her up somewhere because she was too dangerous! Compared to Loki’s very palpable fall from grace, Hela’s character arc is absolutely insignificant. People only liked her because she was hot. That was it. Like I said earlier, Cate Blanchett’s doing. Had it been any less than stellar actress, Hela wouldn’t have garnered more than a couple of shrugs.
I guess it warrants to say Odin was probably the only thing this movie maintained close enough to the original movies (despite he was poorly written in his death scene anyhow). Odin making shitty decisions seems to be one of the main story points in Thor’s franchise, so I suppose that’s not out of line. Ironically, though, staying true to the same variable with Odin is… pretty damn old by now. All of Thor’s movies have featured Odin being controversial, doing shitty things for his perceived greater good (from stealing a child of another culture to comparing his son’s girlfriend to a goat), so Ragnarok isn’t even telling us anything new about Odin. It’s also not telling us anything new about Odin and Thor’s relationship, because we already know Thor loves the man despite it all, and whatever shitty decisions Odin made, Thor accepts them. He did since the first movie, he does again in this one. Zero new information.
As for a few more inconsistencies:
The Bifrost. Remember how Loki activated the Bifrost and destroyed a lot of Jotunheim by leaving Heimdall’s sword in place, back in the first movie? At one point in Ragnarok, the sword stays in place again and nothing happens. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The scene could have easily happened without the sword there, too. But nope. It stayed in place for no reason, and what came from that? Nothing. Just, a completely absurd situation where, again, Ragnarok is inconsistent with the original Thor.
Another inconsistency, this time one that people laughed about becuause “it fixed the Gauntlet problem”. Reminder: the Infinity Gauntlet shows up for the first time in Asgard’s vaults in the first movie.
Tumblr media
In Ultron, though, inexplicably Thanos is wearing the Gauntlet and saying he’ll deal with everything himself (what did he even have to do with Ultron is a pretty good question, one I still have no idea what its answer is). When this happened, people thought Loki was working with Thanos and gave him the thing. Or Thanos broke into Asgard and stole it. But ultimately, it meant Thanos had the Gauntlet and we were doomed, right?
Ragnarok “solved” this problem by featuring Hela saying the Gauntlet in the vault was fake. She knocks it over and says that’s just a shitty copy of the real deal. Fast forward to Infinity War, though…
Tyrion and his buddies fron Nidavellir built the Infinity Gauntlet for Thanos. It happens before Thanos even has access to the Time Stone. Ergo, Thanos couldn’t have made the dwarves craft THE ORIGINAL GAUNTLET and then, I don’t know, used the Time Stone to show it to Odin ten thousand years ago just to get him to make a fake version of it to put it on display for Hela to knock over later. Even if he had done that once he gains access to the Time Stone, someone needs to have at least a shred of common sense and ask themselves why the fuck would Thanos do something so pointless.
Because ultimately, a plothole becomes even more absurd when the attempt to fix it just fucks it up more more. The fake, copy of the Gauntlet, which looks EXACTLY like Thanos’ Gauntlet, existed first. It’s like saying Windows was the original when Bill Gates outright worked for Apple and got his ideas for his own business and OS through working on the MacIntosh. No, Windows isn’t the original. Neither can Tyrion’s Gauntlet be the original because IT MAKES NO SENSE WITH ANY TIMELINE YOU CAN THINK OF.
Had Ragnarok ignored the Gauntlet, nothing would have happened. The destruction of Asgard could have meant this proto-Gauntlet died with it. Thanos could have simply asked the dwarves to make him a new gauntlet because the one that existed was in Asgard, out of his reach by Ultron’s time, and simply gone by Infinity War. But oh noooo, they had to FIX THAT! Well, good fucking job, as usual. You created yet another stupid ass plothole, Waititi. Congratulations.
In short… Ragnarok’s big success comes from it being a “funny” movie with scatological jokes about anuses and orgies, for instance, with Thor making a complete dunce of himself throughout the painful two hours of movie (I don’t even know if it was two hours but it felt like an eternity to me), and let’s not get started again with what happened with Loki. The movie fails at establishing new characters anyone with common sense would be concerned about because they’re as complex and deep as a puddle on asphalt, and it fails at characterizing old characters too. The movie does its best to be funny, but the constant efforts to be funny are akin to a stand-up comedian who is desperate to make his audience laugh at whatever cost. It’s forced, it’s stupid, it’s consistently unfunny, at least it was for me. I can honestly say I laughed at zero points in time in the movie. Was I predisposed to dislike it? I’ve been predisposed to dislike a lot of things before. That the movie failed to subvert any of my expectations is hardly my fault: it was exactly every bit of a failure I expected it to be.
Because when they turned that original logo into a garbage new one, worthy of 1998 Word’s WordArt, when they released a trailer that was HUMOROUS, I knew I wasn’t going to watch something worth my while. You can make comedic stories about the end of the world, people have done it in the past, but Thor did not lend itself for that sort of thing because Ultron establishes Thor is going to be RESPONSIBLE for Ragnarok. Thor has a responsibility to the end of his world. And the Thor we knew, originally, wasn’t the type who would smile and shrug if his mistakes would cost the lives of millions of people.
This is like telling a version of Harry Potter where Harry, faced with Voldemort’s second rise to power, decides to go look for Horcruxes in casinos and strip clubs because hey that’s more fun than an endless camping trip. Well sure, it’d be more fun, but it’d make absolutely no sense and people would die while he enjoys himself and fails to find a single damn Horcrux, right? It’s also like telling me that in Avatar, when Zuko reveals Ozai is going to use the comet to destroy the Earth Kingdom, Aang goes “Oh wow… that’s a shame, huh? So, how about we go back to playing now?” instead of thinking he had to prepare and fight with Ozai to put a stop to the man.
It’s telling me that the destruction of Asgard, of Thor’s world, of his realm and kingdom, is a fucking JOKE. And if we’re not supposed to take it seriously because Thor won’t take it seriously, the movie is a failure. I never felt like any of the previous Marvel films wanted me to take them as jokes, not even the most comedic of them. I did with Ragnarok. Because all that death, all that destruction, all the sacrifices made, brushed past Thor like water from a shower, that he just dried up and walked away. Because the destruction of his world, of his friends, of everything he was supposed to protect, indeed isn’t deserving of a serious treatment because selling movie tickets via comedy is more important. Because quality, consistent, COMPLEX, storytelling isn’t anywhere near as important as making your audience laugh.
Well, congratulations, Feige, Waititi. You guys should have been stand-up comedians instead and left movie-making to people competent enough to make something worthwhile.
This movie is singlehandedly to blame for my loss of interest in MCU matters and in the Thor franchise. I would still write the occasional story for it, I would still enjoy other people’s works about it, but right now? I’ve even blacklisted a bunch of terms so I can see as few Ragnarok posts as possible. And precisely because I want nothing to do with it have I never gotten in the way of people who do enjoy it unless they outright ask me for my opinion, as you did, Anon. If anyone enjoyed Ragnarok despite EVERYTHING I wrote here, that’s on you. I don’t need any arguments to convince me that I’m wrong and they’re right about why this movie has some worth. The contradictions, conveniences, poor characterization and lack of creativity that went into this film will not go away just because someone excuses them one way or another, so if anyone is hoping to “enlighten me” about why this movie is actually brilliant? Save it. For your own good.
So, after these twelve thousand words on why Ragnarok is the worst MCU movie for me… is there anything left unsaid, really? I suspect so, because I watched it too long ago to remember every detail. Still, I’d have nothing good to say anyhow, so it’s probably for the best that I stop now that I’ve made my case quite clearly, right?

Abby’s going to Elsie, so Ricky isn’t THAT evil then? I know Elsie is Darren’s baby but I was under the impression RR was heavily involved. For someone who deals solely in absolutes I’m surprised there’s suddenly a gray area when it comes to Elsie tickets. Not that he could do anything but I really hope someone points her out to Darren. I hope I don’t see her or any of her psycho little follower, Christ, would ruin me day!
Abby spent months proclaiming that if Darren got married, she would be done with him. Then he got married and she was done with him less than  3 hours. She came back with the proclamation that she would NOT support him financially... that lasted until he was n NYC the next time -I believe it was less than a month. She stands her moral high ground until she might miss out on something..then she drops it. She won’t miss anything Darren does in NYC. Period...her moral high ground only exists on Tumblr.
Anonymous asked:
You’re going to Elsie?! You’re happy supporting a person who is closeting him and ruining his and C’s lives? Fuck that, no way should you support his jackass “manager”. Once he’s gone I’ll gladly attend future events but seems a bit hypocritical at the moment, the man literally made D marry someone he hates and you’re perfectly happy to support that? I’m really really surprised. I won’t be supporting anything like that until the Jackass is long gone. I assumed other CC fans would boycott too.
Anon, your feelings are incredibly valid. I admit, when the sham mockery happened, i said i wouldn’t go and i have been struggling with it over the past few months. Fact is, EF for me is an opportunity to hang out with some of my friends I only get to see once a year. And i selfishly don’t want to give that up.
More, EF is a time to celebrate D. And I still want to celebrate him. So very much, because EF is a monumental achievement and he is the sole reason.
Could it be organized better?  Absolutely no question and it being year 5, this should be way more organized and that all falls squarely on the shoulders of the jumping jackass.
But this is D’s baby and I want to let him know that PBB and his incompetent, idiotic manager aren’t going to stop me from having fun.  That is what they want, desperately, they want us to abandon him, so I am trying to walk the line of not overly supporting them but still supporting him.
Could i be wrong about this?  Yes absolutely.  But i have to follow my gut.  But know that i have incredible respect for anyone who wants to boycott it.
So explain to me how Elsie is “Darren’s baby” and “EF is a monumental achievement and he is the sole reason” but also “should be way more organized and that all falls squarely on the shoulders of the jumping jackass”. Only a child-or I supposed someone with Celebrity Worship Syndrome -would believe that all of the good things are because of Darren and all of the bad things are solely because of Ricky. If Ricky is so horrible and incompetent, Darren should have been smart enough and powerful enough to keep Ricky out of Elsie’s management. Ricky doesn’t have the fame, the capital or the power to carry the festival. We know from Jodie Benson’s comment last year that Mia does a lot to help organize the festival- I mean also we know because that is what couples do and Darren and Mia are clearly a couple who do everything together. Instead of “listening” and learning, the cccult raged at Jodie.
...I want to let him know that PBB and his incompetent, idiotic manager aren’t going to stop me from having fun.  That is what they want, desperately, they want us to abandon him, so I am trying to walk the line of not overly supporting them but still supporting him.
Now she is claiming that Mia and Ricky want everyone to “abandon him”? That flies the face of Mia’s main motivation in being Darren’s evil beard which is to promote herself and become famous. If we all abandon him, then there will be nobody to obsessively watch Mia’s Instagram “Post” stats (yes, she does that) and rage because she can’t SEE what was posted. There will be nobody to talk about Mia 24/7 and then complain that they can’t even enjoy being Darren’s stalker fan without seeing Mia everywhere. There won’t be anyone to promote Mia more than Mia promotes herself.  There won’t be any fame to be had.

Regarding the drama (why is there always drama?) surrounding Rogers and Sabine below. A bit of a long post, so below the cut and not reblogged from anyone because, honestly, no one should be tied with my opinions without directly asking for it.
Here is the thing: I have yet to see anyone state that Rogers and Sabine should be or will be endgame. Literally not one. I, personally, do find their chemistry adorable and 100% support him having a crush on her. The fact of the matter is, the show hasn’t set up enough of a reason, yet, for some people to be excited about Sabine/Drew. He was barely just introduced and has been in two episodes, both of which show him betraying her for, yes, valid reasons, but that doesn’t necessarily lend itself to heart eyes. If it weren’t for the fact that we know the story of the Princess and the Frog, I highly doubt anyone at this point would be hardcore in their corner.
From what I’ve seen, no one is trying to erase Naveen. The show, honestly, was incredibly late introducing him and I think he should have been present long before he was. Now that he’s here, he still has to have a solid love story with Tiana in either the EF or HH in order for some people to go, “okay, there it is.” Even so, there’s no one saying that she should be with Rogers instead. Are they fully in support of her having fun with him before TLK with Naveen? For sure. Are they in support of Rogers having fun with someone because he’s otherwise the saddest of pandas and probably hasn’t had a date in actual decades? Absolutely. Sabine and Rogers are two sweet, beautiful adults who are shown to at the very least be friends who trust each other. There is absolutely no harm in saying there might be a bit of pining on one end until their full stories are realized and their happy endings with others are shown.
A big problem I’m having right now is I don’t think these troll anons are coming from a place of really wanting to support and build up a POC character. The crux of their frustration is shown by them, in one ask, introducing their frustrations by mentioning it’s specifically directed at people who are “anti-cs and had been pro-cs” and also by having a problem with Rogers being the one with the crush. How him having a bit of a fluttery heart over Sabine is racist, I have no idea, and how it erases Naveen is beyond me.
No, these are people who are against any version of Killian dating anyone who is not Emma and masking it as social activism. I honestly think it comes from the same people who have been calling this version of him as “fake” and would completely turn around and praise him if the writers did suddenly have him meet a “Wish Emma”.
Furthermore, the post in question was regarding their interactions in the previous episode, not the one from Friday, so that argument is also invalid.
If you’re looking to place blame for Naveen’s lack of a presence, look to the showrunners, not to the audience members seeing chemistry between two characters that is purposefully put there by the writers (ie. “My favorite detective.” “If that’s how this works, I’ll have to drop her off more often.”). I guarantee if you look back on previous posts from these people that are being bashed, they are in full support of seeing more of Naveen. Also, don’t invade others’ inboxes with complaints looking for either fights or to start a Beauty and the Beast-style mob.
Finally, a reminder that being critical of something does not mean being anti-something. Being critical of how CS was portrayed in certain points does not make someone anti-CS, it means they’re not blind following it and disregarding poor writing choices that go against what is known about the characters or plot. For instance, I’m critical of the fact that they brought Nick on to be a best friend to Henry and presented this interesting opportunity to have someone go from being a good guy for years, trying to change his life, to turning into a villain after he’s established relationships with these characters, only to have him quickly killed off when it felt like his story was just starting. If that’s all they were going to do, they really should have introduced Naveen as the best friend character who helped with the resistance, built a relationship with Tiana from there, and introduced Nick elsewhere. That’s me sticking in my opinion about writing choices, being critical of how it played out, but not being anti-s7, anti-Nick, or anti-Naveen.

Svt reacting to their gf coming home scared
anon asked: can i request svt’s reaction to their girlfriend coming home scared because someone was following her?
Seungcheol- You'd think Seungcheol is a big softie, but damn after you come home scared someone's following you, Seungcheol can get hella scary. Because no one messes with you. Not if he can help it. He'll get really angry knowing you were scared out of your mind. He'll probably wrap you up in his arms, breathing quickly and check to makes sure you're ok and carry you in his arms over to the couch and make you sit down and wait while he goes out to see if whoever it was is still around. You can try to stop him by saying you'll talk to the police but he'll go out looking anyway. And If he catches the punk, they're going to get hell tonight.
"Stay here. Nothing is going to happen to you because I'm right here. And they're going to never see the light of day again if they mess with you."
Tumblr media
Jeonghan- Whereas Seungcheol can get scary while trying to protect you, Jeonghan would be a different kind of scary, a silent scary. He'd immediately hug you and tell you that whoever they are they're not going to lay a finger on you and if they do, they're losing their fingers. He'll wrap you up in a sweater and he'll drive with you to the police station so you can file a report. But you can tell from his stance, with his arm folded and his shoulders leveled that if it weren't for insuring your upmost safety, he too would have gone out searching for whoever it was. And whoever it was would have regretted simply laying eyes on you that day.
"We have to rely on the system because if we didn't I might end up seriously maiming whoever it was that scared you today and I don't think you'd like that very much."
Tumblr media
Joshua- Joshua wouldn't have the thought of being pissed at whoever it was. He'd be completely focused on making sure you were ok and that you knew you were safe now and that as long as you're with him, nothing will happen to you. He'll insist on going to the police station in the morning but in the meantime he'd hold you in his arms and run his fingers through your hair and say "it's ok, you're ok, you're safe now". He'd hold you for a long time rocking back and forth until you stop shaking from fear and the cold pit in your stomach goes away. He'd get you warm tea and blankets and make sure all the windows and doors were locked and shut tight before returning to your side to hold you in his chest and kiss your forehead reassuringly.
"Nothing else matters except that you're safe. As long as you're safe and you're here, nothing else matters. Nothing will happen to you, not when I'm here."
Tumblr media
Jun- You're practically crying when you frantically shut the door behind you. Jun takes one look at the terrified expression on your face and is about to lose his shit because when it comes to you no one, NO ONE, messes with you. After hearing what happened to get you so rattled up, he'll quickly grab his coat and wrap it around you and pull you into the car to drive down to the police station. He'd be holding your hand the whole way, one hand around the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white from how tightly he was gripping the wheel. He might ask you for some details like physical descriptions and what you were doing today while he gritted his teeth and stared dead ahead. But if he hears your voice breaking, trying to recall specifics he would stop the car.
"Whoever they were, they won't dare mess with you ever again. Because if they do, they're not going to be able to walk right ever again."
Tumblr media
Soonyoung- Soonyoung would put up a front, trying to show you his best side as soon as he found out what happened. He'd hug you and shower you with kisses while holding you in his arms, but he'd be hella protective. He won't be able to stop thinking about what could have happened if you never came home and he'd be going crazy trying to hide the overwhelming feeling of terror that came with the idea of never seeing you again. He wouldn't let you go for a long time, even after you both went to file the police report, he would insist on going everywhere with you even if it was just to the grocery store. You could be cooking or cleaning or do anything and you can feel Soonyoung watching you and trying his best to make you feel safe.
"I'm never letting you out of my sight again, I'm literally going to learn how to sleep with my eyes open in order to make sure you never have to be scared ever again."
Tumblr media
Wonwoo- He'll be the one in Svt that acts the most calm on the outside. He won't say much but he'll take your hand and wrap you in his arms and like Joshua, makes sure you're ok first. You're the number one priority. He'll wrap you up in blankets and makes sure you eat something and just feel safe and warm. He won't let you out of his sight too and insists that you sleep in the living room with the lights on, away from any entrances or windows. He might seem calm, serious, collected and smart about the whole situation, making a police report after you fall asleep so as not to worry you, but he'll be so scared on the inside, scared that something could have happened to you. He wouldn't get any sleep that night because of it.
"Things were scary today, but trust me, that's never going to happen again. I won't let someone scare you like that ever again. You're going to be ok."
Tumblr media
Jihoon- Damn, Jihoon may seem cute, but like Seungcheol, he can get pretty scary when it comes to you and anyone who messes with you must have a death wish. He'd also be a little bit paranoid and insist that the two of you stay at a hotel or a friend or family's house in case whoever was following you followed you home. Jihoon would hold onto you tight in the car all the way to the temporary place you two were staying at. After making sure you feel safe and are comfortable, he'd take off to file the police report and won't get any sleep, insisting they check security camera footage and post guards around your house until the perpetrator is caught and dealt with.
"You don't have to even think about this anymore. Don't be afraid and don't be scared. Whoever they were, they chose the wrong people to mess with. I'm going to catch them and once I do, I'm not going to have any mercy."
Tumblr media
Seokmin- Seokmin would be trying really hard to make sure that you felt safe again. The look of terror on your face was enough to want to break his heart and he, like Soonyoung, would be more than a little overprotective. He'd hold onto you and ask if there was anything he could do to make you feel safer, even if you suggest camping in the living room with the lights on. He'd drag all the blankets and pillows to the middle of the carpet and help you get settled in for the night. Secretly he'd be terrified too, he doesn't know exactly what could have happened to you. He'll pester you with questions, but if you start getting teary-eyed at the thought of those night's events he'd apologize and hold you tighter until you fell asleep in his arms.
"I should have been there with you today. If I had been there, this wouldn't have happened. I'm not going to let this happen ever again, I promise to be by your side from now on until we catch whoever it was."
Tumblr media
Mingyu- Mingyu wouldn't know exactly what to do, he'd be a nervous mess. He wants to comfort you, but also find out whoever it was and make sure they're punished, he wants to do a million things at once and race around until his heart stops hurting from seeing the scared look on your face. He'd probably settle on going to the police station in the morning and making sure all the doors are locked and that the neighbors know there might be someone lurking around. Then he'd cook a bunch of food, all of it for you, even if you didn't have the appetite because he needs to keep himself busy or he might chase after whoever scared you.
"We have so much food now I don't even know how on earth we're going to be able to finish it. But at least you're safe and that's all that matters to me. Should I make dessert?"
Tumblr media
Minghao- Would actually run into you and hold him in your arms before even telling him what happened and once you do tell him, be prepared for a scary Minghao. He'd look coldly past you towards the door as if willing whoever it was that scared you to reveal themselves to him. He'd drive you to the police station but probably would get too frustrated in the fact that there isn't much they can do. He might go around on a rampage yelling about how the person he cares most about almost got hurt and how the police aren't doing anything. He'd calm down if you talked to him and reassure him you're fine, but he's not ok. He'd apologize for his behavior and sit down next to you, but you're not leaving his sight, he'll pull you onto his lap and just hold you.
"The thought of someone else looking at you, following you, that's not ok. It's not going to happen again. And if it does, they're done for."

Seungkwan- Seungkwan would be shook. He'd be puffing out his chest and asking who the ef would try to mess with his gf and try to jokingly reassure you that he can win any fight with whoever it was. He'd be hella scared on the inside though. You're his everything and to think someone made you feel scared, he wasn't ready for how much it hurt him knowing he wasn't there to protect you. He'd hold your hand and reassure you that everything will be ok since the two of you were together and therefore are an unstoppable force. Then he'd drag you to the police station immediately to file a report while refusing to let go of your hand even once.
"Whenever I'm not holding your hand, bad things tend to happen. So from now on, your hand is mine, sorry, I'm not letting go ever again. That way nothing bad ever happens again."
Tumblr media
Hansol- He'd put up a tough guy front to try to reassure you, but secretly he's gritting his teeth and trying really hard not to run outside and hunt down whoever it is too. Like Joshua though, he'd put you as his first priority, making sure you're no longer scared and that you know you're safe. He might even insist you continue with whatever evening plans you both had wanted to do at home and insist you continue with the normal everyday activities. It's not about ignoring the problem, no he'll file a report with the police later, but right now he just never wants you to feel like you're in danger ever again. He'll do everything to distract you and comfort you and hold onto you, giving you all the love in the world.
"Don't bring it up anymore, you don't have to worry about it. It's over and if it happens again, whoever it is, will be over. I believe in the police. All we need to do is stay together."
Tumblr media
Chan- He might be the youngest, but when it comes to you, there's no doubt in his whole mind that he could easily take on whoever it was, because no one should ever dare to scare you like that. Not you. Chan would be smart and level-headed about the whole situation, maybe the most calm overall. Because he's confident nothing like that would ever happen again because from now on he's not going to leave your side without something to defend you. Whether that be taking self-defense classes, pepper spray, whatever works. He might even arm you with some pointy keys just in case. Chan can be one scary maknae.
"You have to aim for the eyes, that way they can't see and you have time to run away... run away and call me so I can kick their- ahem, I meant call the police."

Cat/Ned anon. Thank you! I'm unsure because it makes me question them- when did she stop wishing it was Brandon and give Ned a chance? Was it ever truly love? I always read Catelyn’s line-‘enough for any woman’ as her trying to convince herself she loved Ned and her taking more pride in her duty than genuinely being happy with Ned. I think I have an issue because it leaves me with the impression that Catelyn’s pride outweighs any 'love' and she never thought about what he was going through.
Cat/Ned anon again. I just realized that my last ask might have come across negative or rude towards Catelyn and I'm sorry about that I didn't mean to. I do think Catelyn loved Ned more than she knew, but I think she has disingenuous thoughts when it comes to it. I think she loved out of duty in a way, but also loved him in way she wasn't willing to admit. Perhaps, Catelyn's wishing for Brandon is more in line with loving Ned out of her duty. I'm sorry I'll stop bothering you! Thanks!
You aren’t bothering me! I enjoy any chance to talk about my OTP! :) I feel like I get a lot fewer ASOIAF asks (or any fandom asks lol) anymore, as my blog is more kind of all over the place now, so I welcome the chance to talk about it! And don’t worry, you aren’t coming across negative or rude at all, although I do disagree with your interpretation (I don’t think it’s a negative/bashing interpretation, I just disagree with it). I don’t think Catelyn needed to convince herself that she loved Ned, her grief throughout ACoK and ASoS is pretty crippling. Her ‘love enough for any woman’ is snapping herself out of the thought path that she was taking - remember in that scene, Edmure is bemoaning his fate if Roslin Frey ends up being ugly. Catelyn criticizes him at first and then begins to think to herself well, is it so awful to want a pretty wife, and remembers her own initial disappointment at Ned’s appearance and demeanor. Then she kinda shakes herself, reminds herself that that initial disappointment became a loving, happy marriage (and ‘the good sweet heart beneath Ned’s solemn face’ is just such an affectionate term, there are many who probably would have said Ned was good-hearted but very very few who would have called him sweet-hearted, I think, based on how he projects himself). So it’s kind of like, ‘well, does Edmure have a point...oh, wait, no, he’s being a GIGANTIC EFFING BABY, that’s right.’ And while Catelyn is certainly a dutiful person, I think that line is actually supposed to be a direct contradiction to the idea that they had just a dutiful marriage - it comes as a contrast right after she thinks about how their wedding night was ‘more of duty than passion,’ the implication being that it changed. I’m a little confused where your thought process goes re: ‘Catelyn’s wishing for Brandon is more in line with loving Ned out of her duty’ because it’s conflating Catelyn as an eighteen year old wishing for Brandon and Catelyn as a woman in her mid-thirties thinking back on that time? Like...yes, young!Cat probably wished for Brandon on her wedding night, but I certainly don’t think she wished for him all those years later? She didn’t love Ned on her wedding night. All those years later, thinking back, she certainly loved Ned. As to when that happened and when she decided to give Ned a chance...there are plenty of fanfics out there examining exactly that! :) As to the question ‘was it ever truly love?’ I mean, in my opinion, yes. There are a lot of pre-canon years between their wedding night and the start of AGoT.
I mean, you can dissect any bit of dialogue but I think the overwhelming evidence, based on their thoughts of one another, is that Catelyn loved Ned and Ned loved her in return. How Catelyn felt about Ned vs Brandon all those years ago doesn’t change how she feels now, or taint it. She loved (or at least, and more likely IMO, was enamored with) Brandon, she married Ned for duty, and at some point in the years post-Rebellion and prior to AGoT, she fell in love with Ned and he fell in love with her.

So, from what I can tell, S7 is gonna be captain cobra heavy and the story might not be taking place in Storybrooke?
pleaseeee I desperately need your speculation for s7
Answering these anons together since they sorta connect a bit.  I’m pretty sure there will be minimal filming in SB, if any at all, given that they cleared out their storage building and it’s now up for lease.  I’m hoping that we’ll get a lot of Captain Cobra in season 7, because that would be awesome!!  As for my spec for season 7, I have a few thoughts and ideas.
I honest to god think there’s a solid chance that part of the “family” that needs Henry’s help this time around might be his brother/sister.  Yep, that’s right, I think we might see a CS kid next season.  Maybe they’ll even be one of the regulars they’re casting?  I feel like we might also be seeing some older  versions of the other babies (Neal, Robyn, Gideon, etc...).  Not sure how old they’ll all be given we don’t really know exactly how much time has past since we saw them last, but I think there’s a solid chance of us seeing them.  Basically, I think we could be getting some OUAT: The Next Generation kind of shit, and I’d be totally down with that.
I have high hopes that we’ll be seeing lots of guest appearances from the regulars that won’t be returning, since so many of them wanted to but weren’t asked back.  I was thinking they might use them in flashbacks here and there, or have older Henry run into them at some point.  The way A&E were talking about the original cast in their interviews for some reason gave me a lot of hope on this front.  I’ve been seeing a lot of “first and last appearance” gifsets for the regulars not returning, and I’m just sort of shaking my head, because I really don’t think the finale was the last we’ve seen of a lot of them.
Speaking of regulars not returning, I have a few theories about Emma’s appearance in the premiere and her potential future appearances on the show if Jen is available to do them.  My first idea was that we’ll be seeing exactly what happened that made Henry lose faith, and that that would involve something happening to his family.  I think that the premiere might contain flashbacks to SB that are set a few years after the finale, and we see young Henry with Regina and CS (and potentially a CS kid if my theory is right) and something goes horribly wrong.  There’s a curse, or some horrible form of magic, and they all get separated or something (which is how Henry ends up in the EF) that will basically explain why most of the regulars aren’t there on a regular basis.  Then in the present storyline, I think that the three people Henry manages to reconnect with first are Killian, Regina, and Rumple, who may or may not even have their memories.  In addition, we’ll meet the new regulars, which could be the second generation kids, as well as new fairytale characters, and it all essentially becomes a quest to get Henry to believe again and get everyone’s happily ever afters back on track since something potentially screwed them up.  This is just one theory, I have others, but this one is my favorite.  Sadly, I don’t know how likely it is since a lot of the resolution will involve the original cast returning at some point, and I don’t know if that would happen. Regardless, I’m still intrigued enough to actually tune in this fall (unless they do actually fuck up CS, which I’m still wary of).
I know that’s only three bullet points, but this is all I have at this point.  I’ll probably post more specs as I continue to absorb the finale and as we get more info leading up to season 7.

Maid of Rage <> Bard of Void
For an anon
So apparently Hussie said before that moiraillegiance "isn't simply about being platonic soul bros forever", though the link to the actual post led me to a 404 error. The MSPA wiki also said that "[t]hey are a protector of their moirail's heart. They keep each other grounded." Basing all analyses on that, let's actually get effing started, shall we?
A Maid of Rage would start off being told what to be afraid of, what to distrust, etc.. Over the course of their journey, they will begin to realise that all the things that they were told to fear actually isn't all that scary, and gets seriously pissed off about it. Mostly, they use this Rage constructively as a driving force, shaking off all restrictions that they thought they were being held down by, the adrenaline rush gives the energy and motivation to accomplish things other people thought of as impossible to achieve. However, destructive Rage is also something that they're capable of, so just pray that when that happens, the anger is directed away from you.
A Bard of Void would start off passively destroying Void, aka ignorance and secrecy, etc.. They would be attentive people, probably gravitating towards people of authority or importance. They would hate being ignored, and would probably be that one person in a group who suddenly perks up at random moments and says something on or off topic just to remind everyone that "hey! I'm still here! Don't forget me!" They would probably be collectors of random bits of trivia, both as a means to make people notice them, and to "destroy ignorance" in themselves and others. A Bard of Void's crisis would probably come in the form of them deciding that they're unimportant/irrelevant, and that nothing really matters. This would probably be when the Bard sinks into the state of existential crises that seems to be pretty common among Void players. They would cut off all ties with they're teammates, since "they're just gonna ignore me anyway", and would probably become extremely reckless, since "nothing truly matters". They might even attack their former teammates if they sink into this state far enough.
Now, the short verdict: this moiraillegiance will work, definitely. However, exactly how it'll work is actually pretty interesting.
The Maid and the Bard would start off as just acquaintances, especially in a larger session. However, for the Maid, between when they were relying on others for what to fear/hate/etc. and when they start using Rage as their drive, I imagine that there would be a period of at least slight disorientation. I mean, they just had their entire world, or at least what their world was based off of, ripped out from right under their feet. Here's when the Bard comes in. They would passively destroy that empty feeling inside the Maid, perhaps simply by providing a distraction for them by trying to attract their attention.
Although this period of time would make those two pretty close, I don't really see them as full on moirails just yet. That'll happen when the Bard's crisis comes along (kind of like Karkat <> Gamzee, huh). The Maid is the active Creation class, so they would be able to create the same constructive Rage they run off of in others. They would probably find the Bard in their self-imposed exile and convince them that no, some things do matter, there are still things worth fighting for. They probably won't be the most gentle in putting this across. In fact, I see the Maid as more like the type of person who yells at their friends, PE-coach-style, to get them motivated. However, they're definitely capable of getting the Bard's head back in the game, and so, their moiraillegiance is formed.
