Fantastic Beasts One-shot: Far Away from Temple After Sunset
SUMMARY While often a requirement when working against a Seer, under-explained missions still don't always end well... The evening of December 24, 1940 sees Newt and Tina reunited on a bloody battlefield in southern France, and if Newt were properly religious, he'd have attributed their miraculous survival to the day of the year...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OPENING SCENE
December 24, 1940 / Christmas Eve and 1st Night of Hanukkah / Limousin Region, Southwest France
Newt had come onto this particular mission off the tail of another, only stopping at home long enough to drop off his case per instructions before apparating to a bombed theatre in the West End to retrieve the portkey and coordinates Dumbledore had had hidden for him there. He’d worked hard to get back from his last trip in time for the holidays, but once he’d learned Tina was already in France, he decided it didn’t much matter anyway, and thus threw himself into the broken flower-pot portkey on a wing and a prayer.
Consequently, just under three hours ago, he had arrived (already exhausted) into what was—but probably should not yet have been— utter chaos, after which it became quickly apparent that this was either not one of Dumbledore’s more thoroughly strategised plans or, alternatively, someone had regrettably betrayed them...
In the end, they’d taken rather more damage than they’d dealt, and though it had been at least ten minutes now since the ambush had finally petered out in a series of popping disapparitions and poorly timed enemy portkeys, the air was still heavy with the scent of noxious potion bombs and Muggle explosives.
It would be an utter lie to say they were not having trouble locating one another in the aftermath and, to make matters worse, both night and the temperature were quickly falling.
Newt had lost sight of Tina just a handful of minutes before—no more than a quarter hour, he was sure of it. But distracted by a landmine someone’s identification spell had apparently failed to highlight during reconnaissance and that had therefore been triggered by a fleeing acolyte, he’d spent the better part of that time making sure Yusuf didn’t lose an eye from the blast; while simultaneously stymieing the steady flow of blood from his own wounds, tending mainly to the careful removal of the shrapnel lodged far too close to his tibial artery for comfort... He’d frantically woven a bandage out of the Horned Slug mucus packed in the pouch on his belt, before testing Kama’s left-side vision and manoeuvring them both clumsily to their feet.
He shifted under the weight as the man shuffled along beside him, a hand clutching his bandaged face. It was all Newt could do to drag his foot along, too—(something he couldn’t repair on his own was injured, something had clipped a nerve, perhaps – well, definitely - from the mechanics of it)—and he squinted about for his brother, or Tina. Miller or Ramos, or Macmillan.
Anyone.
There was a minute sound from behind an abandoned woodshed at the closest edge of the pockmarked field and Newt froze like a creature under threat, casting a heavy disillusionment charm on him and Kama, before shoving the man behind him to clutch his shoulder for a guide as they continued their wary approach.
A half second later and the woosh of an identification spell shot over him, and Newt’s heart could have stopped then and there, so when Theseus’ head appeared from around the corner of the shack just moments later, he choked on a cry of relief. His brother’s face broke with a tired smile—though tear tracks had cut the dirt on his cheeks from squinting too long through the smoke—upon visually confirming what the spell had already assured him: the Scamanders had made it out alive.
(Or, at least — so far — the original two of them had…)

FIC REC!
Title and author: and i don't go to sleep to dream by paperclipbitch
Summary: [post-movie] Tina taps Queenie’s shoulder, firm, three quick fingertip raps. “Queenie.” Her tone is soft, but beneath it there’s the undercurrent of we’ve talked about this before.
Leading ladies: Queenie and Tina Goldstein from the FB franchise
What's to love: A lovely fic giving the FB girls some much-needed characterization and backstory. The sisterly bond is amazing and it's even lovelier to see Judaism in the HP universe! This is the type of fic that would be perfect for week 16, Sisters Before Misters.
send fic recs if you have one, self-recs and self-promo always welcome!

Secrets of Dumbledore (Review) (Spoilers)
I was hoping this film would be better than the last one. Unfortunately, it was not. I didn't feel like much happened in the film and many of the characters would not utilized. They were just there. I thought this movie would be about Albus Dumbledore's secrets; instead, we learned about one secret of Aberforth's which was that he had a son.
I thought this film would take place completely in England and was surprised when some of the movie took plan in 1932 Germany. As a Jewish person, I like to be prepared when watching films that take place during this time period. Also, there were too many Holocaust comparisons in this film, while with the original Harry Potter series, they were more subtle.
I still do not understand why this franchise is called Fantastic Beasts. Each movie should be a stand-alone.
I am happy that Queenie and Jacob got back together and got married, but I would've liked to have seen more of a journey for Queenie to get to that point. I am disappointed that they missed out on including Jewish traditions: including a chuppah, the men wearing yarmulkes, Jacob stomping on the glass, having them share a wine glass, or even have them dance to Hava Nagila. Many secular and cultural Jewish people includ these traditions at their weddings. While I headcanon Tina, Queenie, and Jacob as Jewish, it has still not been made explicit.
I also thought it was bizarre that any time Dumbledore spoke of his past romance with Grindelwald, no one batted an eye. He didn’t talk so openly about this relationship in the ‘90s.
My favorite characters are: Jacob, Queenie, and Newt.
I'm not really sure what to expect in the next one or if it will even happen.

Music I think Roy Kent likes and why
Madonna. In season 3, episode 3, Roy said, "[Pre-Madonna] means before Madonna, female vocalists didn't have to work that hard." This implies a great respect for Madonna and her craft. Also, it's an example of a very specific kind of queer guy misogyny that I find very humorous and implicative (of him being queer).
The Sex Pistols (and other punk rock). Two of their songs are in the Ted Lasso soundtrack. One of them specifically plays when Roy is about to do some pundit work for the first time. I think it's meant to be his hype up music. They're also, of course, anti-fascist and anti-monarchy, which I think Roy would vibe with. He's giving punk.
The music of the Muppets. Canonically (not that I necessarily consider this kind of thing canon, lol) a Muppets fan, I think he'd love the soundtracks to the movies, as well as the numbers they do on the original show.
Rap; Salt-n-Pepa, Queen Latifah, and Beyoncé. I just think he would like them. In season 1, episode 6, Keeley mentions that he has rapped, implying at least some interest in the genre.
Leonard Cohen. I think Roy's Jewish, and he's a broody, sensual bitch. It adds up perfectly. Sidenote: while "She's a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones was a great choice for the song he runs home to football to, I think Cohen's "Ain't No Cure for Love" would've fucking slayyyed..."I loved you for a long, long time / I know this love is real / It don't matter how it all went wrong / That don't change the way I feel / And I can't believe that time is gonna heal / This wound that I'm speaking of" "I've got you like a habit / And I'll never get enough" "I don't need to be forgiven / For loving you so much"
Klezmer. Again, if Roy is Jewish, and we know he loves and misses his grandad...it's simple. He HAS a record player and a dope sound system, and on his shelves there ARE old klezmer records that he remembers dancing around to with his grandad in their old flat.
Amy Winehouse. Again, if Roy is Jewish, and we know he is broody and bitchy, it is a given. "Rehab" is his anthem when his knee gets bad and he is reluctant to treat it.
Disco; Donna Summer and Jessie Ware. It's just great workout music, and it slays, and if he's queer, well, yes, of course he likes disco.
Pop rock; Elton John and Queen. If he's queer...it's a given. I think he particularly likes "I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself" and "Rocket Man", as he is suicidal (I can't find the interview where Goldstein said this) (it's just Word of God anyway), and the most rocket man motherfucker ever.
The music of the people he loves; Led Zeppelin, Cream, Tina Turner, and Stevie Nicks. Phoebe, Keeley, and Jamie like these musicians. He's a caring uncle, boyfriend, and friend. He is listening and learning. Also, I think Phoebe would be into some weird stuff, like outsider music - maybe some Tiny Tim. I think Roy would also enjoy the music of other friends, from plenty of other genres.

Tina & Queenie's Jewish Heritage
A number of characters in this film and the last film are clearly identifiably Jewish, including your character.
Katherine Waterston: That's right.
And here we are set in the 1920s and in the 1930s, and here's Gellert Grindelwald, clearly a crypto fascist. So you kind of think that that's gonna sort of come together in the next few films. I mean we're all speculating because we don't know, but that feels like logic?
Katherine Waterston: Yeah, I was thinking that too. This real thing sort of threw me off a little. Where we are going instead. Yes, I have been very curious and quite concerned about the wellbeing of the Goldstein sisters as we move ahead.
- Simon Mayo Interview
How did it feel to be playing a jewish character in such a big and important pop culture thing in our world like Harry Potter?
Alison Sudol: It's super cool. It's super cool, because my great great grandmother, she was secretly jewish. She was not allowed. She was in the East Coast. It just wasn't something that people were allowed being. So the fact that we have Tina and Queenie Goldstein, it's just a really cool thing. Diversity is important. I don't even know how that works in terms of the wizarding world in religion, but I think it's just a really cool thing. I'm really proud of who she is.
- Leaky Con
On the set, Rowling hinted at where the “Fantastic Beasts” story line might go in the four upcoming films of the franchise. The Goldstein sisters’ Jewish heritage will take on more significance as the timeline moves toward the Nazis and World War II, Fogler said.
- Jewish Journal
Tumblr media
J.K. Rowling hinted that the characters belonged to the same family in a tweet, which read: ‘Well, I think it’s widely known that that characters of (Porpen)tina and Queenie are sisters, but not that their surname is Goldstein.’ She then said their relationship to Anthony was ‘distant’.

Theory: Tina Goldstein as MACUSA President
One of the most popular theory about Tina Goldstein’s future plot is she’s become President of MACUSA.
Tumblr media
JK had made Kingsley, an auror, become a Minister after war ended in HP, and Hermione, the female lead of HP, become minister years after HP event.
So, some believe Tina has potential plot similar like that.
***
Disclaimer:
The theory wasn't mine. This was one of earliest theory after first movie but kinda got buried and currently the theory got resurfaced again. And finally after some procrastinations, i can move my ass to write the theory properly after it just going around in discussions
***
Tina and Leadership
There’s some hints and foreshadow from Katherine Waterston’s interview about Tina will become a leader of MACUSA
(interview transcription credit to @melodyjustice on twitter; all reposted with permission):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Graves has the job that Tina, in her wildest dreams, hopes to have one day (Director of Law and Magical Security Department)”
“She’s really proud to be part of MACUSA…. someday she might be respected at MACUSA”
Tina at least want to be like Graves, the Director of Department of Law and Magical Security, aka president 2nd in command.
Katherine kinda hinting about Tina someday might be respected at MACUSA.
Tina has ambition to be a leader.
Also, Tina’s middle name is ESTHER; one of the most famous Jewish Queen.
JK loves to give hints in the name, and probably the reason of why she gives Esther as Tina’s middle name is foreshadow of Tina’s future plot as leader. Both Tina and Esther are orphans too.
***
Leadership and Journey to Abolish Rappaport's Law
The theory also suggesting that probably Tina is the president who abolish the Rappaport’s Law in 1960s.
Tina is part of the system; she’s proud to be part of it and know how it is so important to protect people, but at same time she realize there’s flaws in system. With how she saw what happen to her sister, Jacob, and Credence so far, it might be give Tina motivation to change the law and system to protect more people.
Some interview from Katherine Waterston also give hints about that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“All these things have led to her feeling that the system can have its faults. She is of course still a civil servant and she appreciates the work she does and considers it important. But maybe now she often questions the leaders”
“There’s like a very clear power structure and some people are more powerful but not unfair”
“She is able to reflect on her believe in her work: “Am I not too blindly dedicated to the organization?””… Even though she’s in her favorite MACUSA, she’s begun to question the methods of the organization. What is justice?
“She has a journey there to understand so much that she’s never explored before… There might be something narrow minded about her perspective in beginning.. She comes to understand there’s lots different kinds of points of views”
After the event of FB1, Tina started to realize there’s something wrong in systems. She love to be part of system, but at same time questioning the systems and her leaders.
With what happen to people she loves and with strong sense of justice, it could give Tina motivation to become the leader itself – so she can have more power in the system and can protect more people.
This is actually kinda slowly happen in canon with Tina become the Director of Department of Auror of MACUSA (irl it’s similar with Director of FBI)
Tumblr media
Unlike before, in FB1 & FB2, Tina didn’t have power to offer protection to her sister. But now in FB3, she has it and probably it is one of reasons why the wedding of Queenie and Jacob possibly can happen in end of 3rd film.
(For more theory explanation about 3 factors why the wedding is suddenly possible: link)
***
Conclusion:
Until this point, it’s clear that seems like Tina’s path in the story is become leader and important figure in MACUSA.
If remembering how in history US join WWII, it’s possible Tina become one of important figure to help win the war.
And probably later after war, Tina might be will got motivated to become President; to abolish Rappaport’s Law, that basically one of reasons why the Global Wizarding War can happen; and root of problem why people that she loves got hurt.
***
Bonus:
The year of when Rappaport’s Law got abolished and the year when Newt create Law of Ban on Experimental Breeding also same in 1965.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So far we know, Newt wasn’t the type who active on politic, but in 1965, he suddenly has authority to create a new law. It might be because he has support from people who have powerful influence in politic.
The theory suggest one of people who give support to Newt in politic is his wife, Tina, and at same time, Tina abolish Rappaport’s Law too.
It possible it’s Newt who later move to US and live at there with Tina instead. Their kid(s) probably will going to Ilvermorny. And later after retired, they move together to Dorset, UK.

Amelia often gets asked if she’s related to Queenie and Tina Goldstein. Her answer is just ‘Jewish Geography’
Queenie and Tina’s parents were cousins with Amelia’s great grandfather. Idk what type of cousins that makes them but it’s very distanced

So I rewatched all of Fantastic Beasts and tbh, I liked it more than I did the first couple of times I watched it. I really like how you get an overview of the entirety of the magical world, not just the UK: the US, France, also Senegal briefly, and the trailers for FB3 hints at it taking place in an east asian country (maybe China?) Anyway I can't wait lol. Also I really like that they took some care in making each wizard country unique. Like in the US there is that weird Salem 2 thing going on, in France you get that wizard republic thing, when they talked about Senegal there was some kind of acknowledgment of colonial relationships? With the white french aristocrat just barging in and destroying the lives of that senegalese family (and then the son wanting revenge. really cool. i am rooting for him). anyway cant wait for the 3rd movie
Also not even talking about how good Jude Law is as Dumbledore, really perfect, and about the way his relationship with Grindelwald is tackled, I love it. And also how Credence's obscurial can be interpreted as a metaphor for internalozed homophobia. Incredible

So Luna married Tina & Newt’s grandson. Since there’s a high possibility Tina and Queenie are Jewish, who’s to say her grandson is not Jewish. Furthermore who’s to say Luna didn’t convert to Judaism (because I personally think she’d adore Purim). Jewish! Luna Lovegood lowkey confirmed?

Chapter One of Aimez-vous les uns les autres (Love One Another) posted today, sequel to Far Away from Temple After Sunset
Summary: It’s Christmas Eve and the first night of Hanukkah when Newt and Tina are injured in an action against Grindelwald, whereafter they are evacuated with Theseus & co. by the Magical Resistance to a small church in rural France. Dealing with curse-exhaustion, landmine injuries, and travel through Nazi- and Grindelwald-occupied regions isn’t how either of them expected to spend the holidays, but—-in the big scheme of things—-there were, arguably, worse ways to finish 1940… In the end, the experience brings them closer together and—-back in England—-holidays with their families give them paradoxical hope for shared peace in the years to come. (Written for @afrenchaugurey!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Excerpt (opening scene):
Newt had woken up in an extraordinary number of incredibly strange places in his life, but—for him—coming to on top of a hay bale in the back of a Muggle lorry was really maybe the strangest.
In fact, if he weren’t so groggy, he certainly would have done more than a double-take to find his injured leg elevated on the thighs of what appeared to be an actual Christian pastor, sitting on the haystack directly beside him. Newt moved his arm to scratch at his nose then, only to fuzzily realise he’d been warmly tucked into what was definitely said pastor’s clerical robes, so he ultimately only succeeded in hitting himself in the face with its massive sleeves...
The pastor had looked up at him by then to offer a smile, but Newt’s mind still wasn’t up to its normal speed—though his heart felt like it was pounding doubletime—so he broke the gaze as fast as he could, casting about for his brother, who must have heard the shift of his head because—
“Merlin’s beard!” — A voice from across and behind him in the truck, and then Theseus had knelt on the dusty boards beside him, fingers instantly feeling at his wrist and neck for pulse and pressure, before pulling back to balance on his haunches, brows furrowed. “You are drugged to the gills, little brother... How in Gamp’s good name are you awake?” [1]
As the truck bounced over a particularly deep pothole, Newt couldn’t help throwing the robe’s sleeve over his eyes to hide his discomfort. Beside him, he could hear Theseus saved from falling on his rump thanks to the soft thump of one of the maquisards’ boots at his back.
“Humans don’t have gills,” he finally murmured through gritted teeth. “And to answer your question, I’ve developed a rather unfortunate resistance to a number of common substances, that’s why I’m awake…” A beat and a frown. “Where’s Tina?”
“You’re on her, Newt.”
He uncovered his face, tilting his head back to see what he was pillowed on, only to be met with the gentle dip at the top of his wife’s thighs; the scratch of her warm, wool coat; the subtle scent of her perfume that always reminded him of camping for pleasure (not work) in Puzzlewood Forest… [2]
He twisted back further for a better look (and he caught a glimpse of her, too—head low and pillowed on Auror Voorhees’ shoulder, deeply asleep), but Theseus put a hand on his chest to urge him back down before he could better assess her.
“Stop moving. Macmillan’s stability spells on your leg are already being tested by these roads...”
Newt relaxed reluctantly into the dry hay, and Theseus thoughtfully transfigured a handkerchief into a towel to tuck beneath his neck when he noticed him grimace at the texture.
“Look,” he reassured, “she’s fine — just utterly exhausted. She’ll be good as new with a few cautionary countercurses and a couple days’ rest. And we hope to be able to say the same for you soon.”
“So - where are we going then?” Newt countered with quiet acceptance, glancing from the pastor to Theseus and back again. “And - and what is he doing here?”
“Don’t worry,” Theseus reassured glibly. “He’s a squib.”

If you’d like to write the Goldsteins as Jewish (since they are!) but aren’t sure how to do that, I’ve compiled a list of fiction books about early-twentieth-century American Jewish life! I figured that nonfiction can be hard to access or get through, and info sites like MyJewishLearning are hard to contextualize both into actual experiences and into the historical setting. Plus, fiction gives you a feel for things rather than just tossing information at you. And it’s enjoyable! These books can help you learn about what Tina and Queenie’s upbringing and lifestyle might have been like, and they go into topics like food, tenement life, Jewish neighborhoods, school, social/love lives, religious and cultural life, and how Jews adjusted from being new immigrants to being more integrated into general society. They’re from slightly different time periods, and all but one take place in New York City.
The Boston Girl by Anita Diamant
Era: 1915-1930
Coming of age story of a young woman named Addie, featuring her friendships, family struggles, love life, and career misadventures. Addie was born around 1901, so she’s a good reference for Tina. It’s a useful book for this since it spans such a large range of time. It goes into details about things like language, culture, tenement life, settlement houses, employment, religion, food, weddings, and other life cycle rituals. It does take place in Boston, rather than NY, but I imagine there were a lot of similarities.
The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
Era: 1899/1900
A really lovely fantasy book about a golem (a creature from Jewish folklore) and a Jinni who find themselves in New York City and strike up a frienship. The Golem, Chava, lives in the Jewish area of the city and follows Jewish customs. This is a little before Tina and Queenie’s time, but it could be a good reference for their parents and for understanding the environment they may have come from. It goes into local flavor, different types of Jews (religious vs. secular), and how the community works. It also goes into Jewish magic stuff!
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
Era: 1930s/40s
Joe Kavalier is a talented artist from Prague who escapes pre-Holocaust Europe in a box, and Sammy Clay, his cousin, is an American Jew who knows how to turn dreams into entrepreneurship. Together, they use their creativity and ingenuity to break into the emerging comics industry based in NYC. It also gives insights into what secular Jewishness would have looked like and how it was still undeniably Jewish, in a much better way than I can describe in tumblr posts (it helps that the author is a secular Jew himself, whereas I’m religious).
Middle-grade books - I’m including these even though they’re for kids because they’ve got good information, and they’re good if you’re looking for a faster read. Also, if English isn’t your first language and you want something easier, these are a good choice.
All-of-a-Kind-Family by Sydney Taylor
Era: 1910s
This is a set of five books about five sisters growing up on the Lowest East Side of NYC. It goes into tenement life, the Jewish community, religious life, corner stores, chores, social lives, school, Shabbat, etc. It could be a good reference for Tina and Queenie’s childhoods. The author herself was actually born in 1904, and the stories are based on her own upbringing, not just research.
Rebecca: The Sound of Applause
Era: 1914
This is an American Girl book about a ten-year-old girl named Rebecca. It goes into school life, religious life, the fabric of the neighborhood, the differences between new and recent immigrants, and dealing with Christmas. Also a good reference for Tina and Queenie’s childhoods.
Dave at Night by Gail Carson Levine
Era: 1926
Dave is eleven when his father dies and he’s sent to live at a Jewish boys’ orphanage. But he starts sneaking out at night, and an old man takes him under his wing and starts bringing him to parties. He lives a dull orphanage life by day and an exciting Harlem Renaissance life by night. Dave is younger than the Goldstein girls, but since it takes place in 1926 I thought I’d include it anyway. It goes into Jewish mourning practices, Jewish communal life, and some of the ways Jews interacted with other communities.
Hope these are useful! I recommend them all just as books to read for pleasure, btw, in addition to references.

Harry Potter 2am Ponderings
I think it’s fair to say that the Wizarding World has its own culture. They have their own government, education system, literature, newspaper, music, sports, food, transportation, medicine, history, communities, etc. We can also agree that wizards have an intense dislike for Muggle technology and associating with Muggles in general. They won’t touch cell phones, televisions, computers, the Internet, etc. despite the fact that this technology would benefit their quality of life in many ways. Many wizarding families won’t live near Muggles, talk to them, befriend them, have families with them, etc. due to anti-Muggle prejudice. So I just find it fascinating that wizards practice Muggle religions. As religion is not a prominent element in Harry Potter at all, I don’t think they ever discuss God or church or religion in any detail in the series, but we know at Hogwarts they celebrate Christmas and Harry has a godfather meaning he was baptized. Christian wizards …..exist. J.K. Rowling has told us that Harry’s classmate Anthony Goldstein is Jewish and he is distantly related to Queenie and Tina Goldstein from Fantastic Beasts so we have to believe they are also Jewish, meaning Jewish wizards also exist. I have to assume Muslim, Sihk, Hindu, Buddhist, and wizards of other religions also exist. Like my mind is blown. Wizards believe in God. They believe in Heaven and Hell and Jesus and Moses. They believe in angels and miracles. I find it crazy that someone can be a Christian and a wizard at the same time. Like knowing magic, unicorns, vampires, goblins, dragons, and three-headed dogs can simultaneously exist with God and prophets. Aren’t witchcraft and prophecies against the Bible? Would a Muggle-born Christian who grew up very religious have difficulty accepting magic and the wizarding world?? Did wizards join Muggle religions through conversion or intermarriage with Muggles? Were there pagan wizards in pre-Christianity times? What were wizards doing in Jesus’ day? Was Jesus a wizard? Is that how he turned the water into wine? Was Moses a wizard? Is that how he parted the Red Sea? Did he place a curse on the Egyptians and cause the plagues? Did he use Imperio on Ramses to get him to let the Hebrew people go? Do wizards just accept these events as divine miracles that have nothing to do with magic? How do wizards distinguish between divine experiences and magic? Are there wizard-priests and nuns? Wizard rabbis? Do wizards attend church with Muggles? Why didn’t wizards develop their own religions instead of adopting Muggle ones? I have a million questions please help me.

Katherine Waterston: Porpentina Goldstein, I like using an New York accent with her because, well, it's just fun to do. She is an Auror again. She had been one before, the first film, and then she was demoted at work, and at the end of the first film, she gets her old job back, so she's back being an Auror now, and she loves her work very much. Actually this is a point of connection between Newt and Tina is that they both had an aspect of their lives that really makes sense to them that in which they are highly functional, and then these other aspects of their lives are not so much. She also struggles with communication. She was orphaned as a child and had to take on a lot of responsibility at home, and as a result, didn't really socialise and develop like the average teenager might. So there are these aspects of her that are a bit stunted, but like all JK Rowling characters, utimately, whatever the guards are, whatever the barriers are, she has this huge heart.
I think as Tina grows up throughout these stories, we tried to illustrate with the costumes too, but she becomes aware of the parts of herself that have been dormant, her sexuality, her ability to attract another, and I think the confirmation of the sort of shared connection at the end of the first film does something to her awaken. It's a part of her. It really works both ways with the costumes. I have an idea because I have a sense of where she's going and what I wanna express, but then the costume also when you put it on helps you really feel that, and yeah, it's wonderful to have that kind of support from various departments that really do affect your gait, affect the way your shoulders sit, all of that, and it's really fun to communicate that way.
A number of characters in this film and the last film are clearly identifiably Jewish, including your character.
Katherine Waterston: That's right.
And here we are set in the 1920s and in the 1930s, and here's Gellert Grindelwald, clearly a crypto fascist. So you kind of that that that's gonna sort of come together in the next few films.

† - Please! For anyone in Fantastic Beasts, though if you prefer it narrowed down, then Tina. :)
Send † for a RELIGION headcanon.
I went with Tina. :) Note that I do think her distant relationship to Anthony Goldstein implies that she is Jewish, even if the movie gave us absolutely nothing to confirm this theory.
I don’t headcanon Tina Goldstein as being especially religious. I’m of the firm belief that she was raised to keep in touch with elements of her culture, which means she and Queenie light the menorah over Chanukkah and observe the Passover seder(s). However, she honestly couldn’t tell you the last time she attended synagogue…
When Newt comes into the picture, I headcanon that Tina experiences about 0.02 seconds of doubt for (potentially) falling in love with/marrying a Goy. A frank conversation with him about reality and expectation and laying out her wishes for raising theoretical children quickly put her fears to rest. (For his part, Newt’s just happy that he doesn’t have to consider getting circumcised!)
