In the Party Thor universe can we have Loki introducing Sigyn to Laufey and the rest of the fam 🤩
Oh, this can only go well.
Actually, it probably goes better than expected.
Thank you for the ask!
---
“Now, Father,” Loki said. “While Sigyn is a lady of Asgard, her step-mother is a minor noble at best, and she’s not used to the full royal fanfare and all of that.”
Laufey crossed his arms as he watched his son fix his hair in the mirror.
“Remind me who this girl is?” Laufey said.
“Lady Sigyn Heimdallsdóttir,” Loki said.
“Heimdall…” Laufey nodded. “I know him. Is she anything like her father?”
“Do you mean ‘staunchly loyal to the throne of Asgard’, or ‘can see and hear everything the Bifrost can reach’?” Loki asked.
A guard stepped in.
“The Lady Sigyn and her escort have arrived, your majesty.”
Laufey nodded and the guard left.
“Escort?”
“Her father offered to chaperone for her tonight,” Loki said.
“Why would she require a chaperone if you have already taken her to your bed?” Laufey asked.
“Father!” Loki said.
“Heimdall is not the only one that can hear rumors and secrets,” Laufey said. “They just take a little longer to get to me.”
Loki sighed.
“Just, please don’t speak like that to Heimdall,” Loki said.
“He can’t be under the impression that his daughter is a virgin,” Laufey said.
“He’s not, but I would like him to understand that I do treat his daughter with respect,” Loki said.
Laufey shook his head. “She’s barely more than a servant.”
Loki looked to Laufey. “So was Mother.”
Laufey paused before smiling.
In the entrance hall of Laufey’s palace, Sigyn and Heimdall waited to be received by the royal family.
“Father, if I could ask you to…” Sigyn grimaced. “You know…”
“What?” Heimdall asked.
“The All Sight,” she said. “You don’t have to know everything; you don’t have to make it a point that you do.”
“I see,” Heimdall said, smiling to himself. “Are you saying you’re embarrassed of your father?”
Sigyn sighed. “Just don’t force me to be.”
“Of course, little one,” he said.
A guard entered the hall and the two stood up straight.
“His Majesty, King Laufey of Jotunheim.”
They bowed at the entrance of the King and Loki. Sigyn gave a small wave to Loki, who grinned back.
“Your majesty,” Heimdall said.
“Lord Heimdall,” Laufey said. “This is a rare occasion indeed.”
“I am not the only one who can stand watch over the Bifrost,” Heimdall said. “But I am uniquely suited to it, so, yes, it is a rare occasion that I am away from Asgard.”
Heimdall looked to Sigyn.
“But for my daughter, I find the time,” he said.
Sigyn smiled.
“I understand,” Laufey said. “Come, the rest are waiting.”
They were led to the palace banquet hall, where Queen Farbauti and her two younger sons were waiting. The Jotuns lounged on cushions and furs behind a long, low table. Sigyn gasped at the imposing figure that the Queen Jotun made, as she looked down on the young Asgardian. Loki offered his hand, and Sigyn wrapped as much of hers as she could around Loki’s index finger.
“Mother,” Loki said. “This is Sigyn.”
Sigyn gave a deep curtsey.
“I am honored to be in the presence of the great Queen of the Jotuns,” she said.
She slowly looked Sigyn over. Then she smiled.
“So you’re the one we’ve heard so much about,” Farbauti said.
“Oh,” Sigyn said. “I hadn’t realized.”
“He hasn’t shut up about you, really,” Byleist, one of Loki’s brothers, said.
“You’ve turned him a bit stupid,” the other brother Helblindi said.
“Oh, like he wasn’t stupid before,” Byleist said.
“Boys, be nice to your brother,” Farbauti said.
Sigyn felt her face burn and Loki pulled her close to his leg, directing her to where they’d be sitting.
The food was brought out and the meal continued, mostly filled with Heimdall and Laufey discussing basic news of the Nine Realms. Farbauti watched Sigyn with focused intent. Sigyn felt like an ant under a glass.
“So,” Farbauti finally said. “Loki tells us that you are a healer.”
“Yes, I am,” Sigyn said.
“Are you a specialist or just general practice?” she asked.
“My internship was for internal medicine, but I’m currently finishing a trauma surgery residency,” she said.
“A surgeon?” Farbauti said, glancing at Loki.
“She is very good at what she does,” Loki said, smiling.
Sigyn’s hair fell in front of her face as she looked away, and she brushed it back.
“It took a lot of work,” she said.
“I can imagine,” Farbauti said.
“I understand the two of you were introduced by Prince Thor,” Laufey said.
“In a manner of speaking,” Sigyn said. “His highness is a friend.”
“I’m constantly surprised at how many ‘friends’ the crown prince has,” Laufey said.
Sigyn paused. “He’s very insistent. When he decides that you are his friend, it’s hard to argue. That being said, I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had since he made that decision. I couldn’t have imagined what I would have come to do, when I first met him.”
Loki smiled.
“I see,” Laufey said. “And this was the manner in which you began courting my son?”
“Darling, really,” Farbauti said.
“I would suggest that Sigyn did not start seeing your son on a whim,” Heimdall said. “She does not make such decisions lightly.”
“And in any case, I was the one who approached her,” Loki said. “Who pursued her.”
“If I may,” Sigyn said. “I can speak for myself.”
Laufey nodded. “So, speak.”
“I honestly don’t know what this will become,” she said. “I understand that I am not of a status that most would expect to be courted by the Crown Prince of Jotunheim. But I care very deeply about Loki, I know that already. And politically, it may be to a certain advantage to make more concrete ties to the other realms.”
Loki raised an eyebrow and Laufey smirked.
“You speak with the All-Father’s tongue,” Laufey said. “And you seem to bring a certain contentment within Loki.”
Laufey stood and gestured for Farbauti to join him. Farbauti smiled at Sigyn, and the two left.
“That was… abrupt,” Heimdall said.
“Father tends to leave before he says more than he wants to,” Byleist said.
“Looks like the Asgardian girlfriend gets the okay,” Helblindi said. “How boring.”
“Sorry?” Sigyn asked. “Were you looking for drama?”
“Well, sure,” Helblindi said.
“Oh, just wait until Loki decides he wants to marry her,” Byleist said.
“You say that like he hasn’t already,” Helblindi said.
Loki covered his face with his hand.
“You two are dismissed,” he said.
The younger brothers shrugged and left. Loki looked to Sigyn and Heimdall.
“I do apologize,” Loki said.
“No need,” Sigyn said. “I’ve attended banquets in honor of Princess Gulveigg. Odin does not get along with his sister.”
Loki grinned.
“Sigyn, will you be staying the night?” Heimdall asked.
“Father!” Sigyn said.
“I am merely asking,” Heimdall said. “If this… event is over, I should return to my duties. I have no illusions of the relationship you both are currently pursuing.”
“Father,” Sigyn said. “This is what I was saying about having to know everything.”
Heimdall nodded.
“Of course,” he said.

It was not the first time Loki’s use of his seiðr had gone terribly wrong.
As a younger practitioner, he had gotten stuck in a wide spathe of different forms while exercising his shapeshifting abilities, had been unable to reverse an invisibility spell for there days without the aid of his mother, and had once turned both his and Thor’s hair bright pink for an entire moon cycle while doing some experimental potion work. Then there was the embarrassing time his magpie disguise had failed while delivering love notes to Sigyn’s room. Not to mention the month he had shuttered himself in his rooms after a spell backfiring covered his entire body in boils.
The older he got, the less Loki made mistakes or found his spells had unexpected consequences. It was rare nowadays that he got something wrong in anything other than his personal experiments, and even then, it had been a long time since any of the enchantments, curses, spells, or potables he had been working to invent had caused him more than a slight headache or briefly availing himself to one of his wife’s healing kits she kept stored in his laboratory for those purposes. This time, however, could possibly end up in his top ten worst magical mistakes.
So, this happened.

anyways was thinking of a thor ragnarok rewrite last night as sleep refused to take me. obviously it can't be exactly like actual ragnarok bc marvel/mcu's norse stuff is..nothing like actual norse lore but i figured it could still have some more similarities than what the actual movie did.
(also if i were to rewrite the movie this isn't actually what id do, this was just. idk. what i was thinkin about as i was desperate to actually falll asleep).
anyways i figured this rewrite would actually work best if it rewrote the end of tdw first- loki gets stabbed by kruse and passes out for a while (rather than being able to pick himself back up in secret like what actually happened) and in that time odin senses that loki isn't dead and sends some guards to collect him. since loki technically broke the law *again* (committed treason, escaped jail, etc), he can enforce even more punishment, especially now that frigga is dead and she can't do anything about it. That, combined with some prophecy from midgard (or maybe asgard, idk) as an excuse added justifying reason, he sentences loki to the worst thing he can think up: to be bound against a rock with a snake dripping venom on him, his lips sewn shut so he can never lie again, forced to be in his jotun form, for all of eternity. In the deepest dungeon.
Thor obviously doesn't know about any of this, because he thinks loki dead.
so loki is taken, bound to a rock (idk if it's really work to have him bound with organs tho, since he doesn't have children in the mcu. maybe it's his..pet's? or maybe just chain. idk.), a snake coiled above him, seiðr bound, lips sewn shut, and his æsir form taken. He is completely alone, save the guards outside the chamber.
i don't really ship logyn in the mcu, (bc she doesn't exist in the mcu and their relationship feels to me like it would span for several centuries prior, so just randomly introducing her in one movie would seem strange to me), but i follow some people who do, so i wondered how i could incorporate that anyways, and make it not seem too strange.
Sigyn is one of the guards who has a shift guarding loki's chambers. She feels awful about it though, and eventually decides she has to do something to help. She ventures into the chamber and decides to catch the dripping venom with her helmet.
She also tries to cut the stitches from lokis lips, but when one string is cut, it doubles and repierces the skin, now twice the strength. She tries again, cutting them all at once this time (rather than individually), and grabs them all at once and pulls them out before they can multiply and repair themselves (luckily this time it works). She almost regrets it, though, as now she has to hear loki scream himself hoarse, and she can't do anything else to ease the pain.
she stays for several weeks/months/idk, holding the helmet above loki, having to empty it every so often. Perhaps she gets to know loki in this time, perhaps she doesn't. Perhaps she notices a certain brand on his shoulder, perhaps she does not. Perhaps she knew loki vaguely before, and now muses to herself what could have possibly changed him. Perhaps she didn't know him before, and doesn't muse. I don't know. But eventually she decides she needs to find and tell thor.
as hard as it is, she leaves loki to suffer alone (she tries to see if she can leave the helmet or fashion some contraption to make sure the poison cannot get in his eyes, but she cannot). After some searching and asking, she finds the mourning sullen prince thor and tells him what has occurred. Thor, now filled with joy, rage, guilt, horror, and sadness, breaks loki out with sigyn.
Loki is a mess. He has gone blind- whether temporarily or permanently is unknown- and has visible burns from the acid venom. His hairs a mess and his skin sweaty and thin. You can see his rib cage with how thin he's become. He wasn't allowed much clothes at the start of his punishment, but what few he had have been burned by the venom as well. He can't walk. He's barely conscious, and what little bit he is is just filled with delirium. They basically have to carry him.
They hide away from asgard (or at least the palace). And then ragnarok gets unleashed and they have to fix it etc and in the end they realize that it wasn't literally loki's being freed that incited ragnarok, but it was necessary for him to be freed so they could help stop/fix it/lessen the damage etc idk i was pretty tired at this point i wasn't thinking of details. anyways
idk if that made any sense lol but i'll tag the logyn people i follow/was thinking of

The Raven and the vampire
Chapter 1
This is a twilight and marvel mashup, the daughter of loki finds her soulmate in jasper Cullen and the twists and turns it will take them both
Note this is my first fanfic ever please be nice. I’m trying I constantly reread and change/fix these. As of 1/25/24 i've redone this story it is no longer a reader insert. I want to thank everyone who liked the original and hope you like the updated version more, this was my first ever fic and i've slowly grown as a writer so everyone enjoy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It begins like every other day on Asgard, sunny and golden, gilded with light, as the sounds of a baby’s wails break the silence of the healing wing. Loki paces back and forth, waiting to be with his wife and newborn. The doors swing open and an attendant comes forward.
“You may enter your highness, your wife and child are all cleaned up and waiting for you”. Brushing past the attendant, Loki heads straight for the figure sitting up against the backboard of the green silk bed.
“My darling, how are you? How do you feel? Do you need anything? Are you hung/…’..
“/Loki, calm down. I'm perfectly fine. A little tired but it was all worth it to finally meet our daughter.”
“it’s a girl”
“Yes ,my son , she is a beautiful baby princess and here she is ready to meet her parents .”
Walking to the new parents with a bundle of green and gold cloth in her hands, Frigga handed the new princess to her mother. The baby was a light blue theraise markings prominent on her body, tuffs of deep black hair crowned her head Asher scarlet eyes opened to take in her parents. Lady Sigyn didn't even pause at the baby’s coloring, long since having broken Loki of thinking himself a monster due to his heritage
“She is half Jotun like we expected but her body should adjust to the environment soon just as her father did” queen Frigga states noticing her son had yet to say anything. Loki just stared at his daughter's small form resting in his beloved's arms, slowly offering his finger to the babygirl. Skin turning blue as the bay gripped it in her small hands
“She’s beautiful”,
“Yes, she is! oh Loki look,”
The new parents watched as scarlet eyes gave way to white with beautiful amethyst irises, skin turning a beautiful pale like her fathers with a dashing of freckles like her mother
“She looks just like you, my prince, beautiful dark hair and all.”
“She looks. Like the both of us, a perfect blend. My little Raven, Elara frigga Lokidottir Princess of Asgard.”
Tumblr media
800 years have passed and the young princess has grown into a young woman of grace and beauty. A mage like her father and grandmother before her, and warrior in her own right. I mean, how could she not? With private training form an actual Valkyrie, and the literal goddess of war and god of thunder (god of sparkles lol) as her aunt and uncle. In all her time though, she has grown up around love, seeing it in her parents' faces as they look at one another. In her baby brother's eyes as they babble up at her, Her grandparents and uncle and so many others, that she was ready to find it herself.
“Mother, father, I've done it.” Elara omimites as she bursts into her parents sitting room. Sigyn was sitting on the floor with the twins as they had tummy time while Loki was next to her legs crossed at the ankle reading a book to the two of them.
`What is that my little raven?”
“ Father, I've completed the spell to find my soulmate.”
“Soulmate? Spell? Darling what are you talking about, you're still so young you shouldn’t have to be so worried about that.”
“Mother you and father were only 200 years older than me when you both finally married and much younger than that the first time you met and started cavorting with each other. Besides, I'm ready. I want to have what all of you have, especially before I'm used as a pawn to help diplomatic affairs, I want to find my other half.”
“My little raven, we would never allow the allfather or anyone else to use you as a pawn. Besides i second your thoughts”.
“Loki why am i not surprised you are some howenvloved with our daughter trying to leave
“Dear, it will all be fine trust me I would do nothing that would harm our little raven” he kisses his wife soothing her while gesturing to elara to carry on with her proclamation ,
“go ahead love tell us what you’ve discovered”
“ Mother?” Sigyn pinches her mouth looking between her mischievous husband and equally energetic eldest
“Fine, I will go along with you and your fathers plans but i wish to be there when the spell is cast and part of the travel discussions”
“Absolutely mother, I can do the spell now, i just need the maps of the realms”
Loki summons all the maps he's collected over the years including a globe of earth and sets them up for his daughter, when a thought finally occurs to him.
“Odin forbid this adventure, send you to Midgard.”
“Loki we will be supportive of whoever it ends up being and wherever it ends up taking her. Besides, if you didn’t want her to go away, you shouldn’t have helped her make the spell to begin with.”
“Your words cut deep my love. I simply hoped for her future match to be here in Asgard.”
“Of course you did, dear. Now sweetie, let's proceed with this event.”
The maps of the realms litter the giant green carpet. In front of you, setting the small golden bowl of which to concoct the spell in the middle of th wide green rugs.”
“So I modified a spell to find a lost item and a spell to show your hearts desire, combining the two with a very complicated magic circle I should be able to find my soulmate”,
“Very impressive little raven”
“Thank you father ok lets start. The purple magic flows from your fingers towards the bowl containing the two simple spells ingredients while your power spreads out forming the magic circle. As soon as it's complete a bright pulsing light shoots up. Dancing around Elara several times before shooting over to the maps.
Tumblr media
“It's working!” Sigyn happily. Awes watching her daughter work.
Pulsing around the realms maps the light simply hoovers before shooting for the Midgardian globe encasing it insistently
“Oh joy of course my daughters soulmate is a Midgardian”
“Honestly, I think it serves you right Loki”, Sigyn states picking at her husband and his distaste for midgardians “but you don’t even know who or what this midgarden is. Who knows, they could be gifted like our dear Wanda”
“Yes my darling” Loki says as he collapses on the nearest couch.
“Well go on my little raven, let's see where in Midgard you will be visiting”
Walking over to the globe, Elara peers over to what small words have now been illuminated.
“It’s a place called….. Forks, Washington.”

Loki is the Norse god of mischief, and the hard cold truth, even tho he may be a jackass, but he is wise enough to be truthful, and charming in many ways.

Baby Hel and Loki
Tumblr media
If Loki loved anyone, it was Hel, Fenrir, Jormungundr, Vali, and Narfi. I have some doubts about Sigyn and Angrboda. 😅😅🤷🏻
His daughter, his princess. Those tiny arms and legs… he didn't think anything had ever caught his attention for more than a second, the 9 worlds seemed rather indifferent to him, which was why he was so often bored and liked to irritate the people of Aagard and the jotuns, their idiotic arguments were entertaining him entertainment, and yet… He didn't believe in miracles, but he would undoubtedly call the little giantess a miracle. That night was one of the best nights of his life. He adjusted the baby in his arms, on which took a long time, opened one light green eye, then the other, looking curiously at his father and stretching out his little hands. Loki smiled. When he gave his daughter his finger, she closed her fist and after a while she started sucking it. God chuckled
– Hello, snowflake. - he whispered to the girl After a moment, he thought about it, looking at the baby's fiery hair. This newborn was different, he saw something interesting in her , in her pattern where she focused attention on everything around but she was also clearly looking at him. In fact, he didn't know each other on raising children, but Frigg recently gave birth to her second son - Baldur. She once said they were like little kids they cannot yet focus on the person of their parent and not much that they see, because the light is too bright for them. Additionally, they most often look upside down. Girl was observing him on purpose, certain of who she was, he became immediately sure of it. Eventually, however, she lost interest in his finger and instead her chubby paws tried to touch the neck, specifically the pendant with a raven skull attached to a strap, between a strand of brown beads. Loki laughed again.
–You like it - he said happily, taking the ornament over his head - he placed the skull in the roll of the blanket, to which the girl reacted with enthusiastic squeaking. Then she clumsily grabbed the object, wrapped it in her arms, and curled it into a ball. She fell asleep immediately. Loki looked on with growing admiratio. You like bones. - he said - Just like the inhabitants of the land of Hel. It is ruled by Garm, a shapeshifter like me and perhaps you," he stroked the tiny head. In his large hand she seemed as small as a grain of sand - Hella, Hel… he repeated thoughtfully - It suits you. Angrboda will like it, right Hel?!
Angrboda zmęczona porodem udała się na spoczynek, a reszta mieszkańców dworu zajęła opijaniem przybycia nowej członkini rodziny. Dwie siostry i matka żony boga zostały z olbrzymką w komnacie by czuwać przy jej boku w razie potrzeby. Loki jednak chociaż zapraszano go do zastawionego suto stołu pierwszy raz w życiu odmówił udziału w biesiadzie.

How do you think Thor, Loki and Sigyn would react to the Party Thor universe/episode?
This took a little longer, but it is a little longer, so... here you go? Hope this is what you wanted? ^_^;
Thank you for the ask!
---
Loki led Thor and Sigyn through the Time Door into the long corridor of shifting glass. Sigyn blinked, taking in the sight. Thor looked at panels on the wall.
“Where are we, Brother?” Thor asked.
“It’s not exactly a ‘where’,” Loki said. “Or a ‘when’ for that matter.”
“It’s beautiful,” Sigyn said.
“Loki.”
Uatu floated down to the three of them.
“What are you doing here?” Uatu asked.
Loki shrugged. “Haven’t found what I’m looking for.”
Uatu looked over at Thor and Sigyn.
“I am The Watcher,” he said.
“Well, you’re a Watcher,” Sigyn said. “It’s our understanding that the Watcher’s Council has assigned you to watch our particular corner of the universe.”
“…Yes,” Uatu said.
“So what is this place?” Thor asked.
“This is where I watch,” Uatu said.
Thor paused. “Suppose that makes sense.”
“What do you think I have to offer you?” Uatu asked.
“Insight,” Sigyn said. “Into other universes.”
“Do you need insight?” Uatu asked.
“We’re not certain what we need,” Loki said.
The three glanced at each other but did not make full eye contact. Uatu nodded.
“Then I will show you yourselves,” he said.
Uatu held out his hand towards one of the walls and the panel shifted, which sounded like glass shattering and grinding against itself. An image appeared, showing into another universe. In the image, Odin was holding a Jotun infant.
“The three of you find each other in almost every universe,” Uatu said. “Your dynamics shape who you are, building heroes, villains, and those who are not either. But in this universe...”
Odin found Laufey and handed him the child. Laufey blinked, looking from the infant to the other King. Odin nodded.
“He didn’t take me,” Loki said.
“Strange Supreme mentioned something like this,” Uatu said. “Did he not?”
“If I’m not born small, Laufey takes me back,” Loki said.
Sigyn put a hand on Loki’s arm.
“This one act of love, from one father to another, ends the war,” Uatu said. “This Loki is raised as the crown prince of Jotunheim.”
“What of Mother?” Thor asked. “Bringing Loki home brought her out of her depression.”
“Your mother was strong,” Uatu said. “It takes a bit more time, but she does recover.”
The image shifted to Frigga playing with a very young Thor.
“She dotes upon her only remaining child with all the love she has,” Uatu said.
Sigyn looked away from the image. Uatu nodded.
“The bastard daughter of Odin is still taken in by Heimdall,” Uatu said.
The image shifted again to a sleepy young Sigyn being put to bed by Heimdall. A woman they all recognized walked into the room, tucking the girl in.
“Rindr?” Sigyn said.
“Your father’s one regret was that he never married the woman he’d fallen in love with,” Uatu said. “Here, he finally had the chance.”
Sigyn looked away.
“My apologies if I doubt that everything is magically happy,” Loki said. “I’ve seen enough of these to know that there is pain just waiting for them.”
“Growing up apart removes the dynamics,” Uatu said.
He wiped the image away and replaced it with one of an adolescent, Jotun Loki.
“Loki still learns magic, becoming a powerful sorcerer,” Uatu said. “But his skill is not as refined, and his feats not as grand. He has less incentive to show off.”
Loki flushed, looking away from Sigyn, who smiled to herself.
“Thor, without a brother that is constantly challenging him, grows complacent,” Uatu said.
The image shifted to Thor at a banquet with Sif and the Warriors Three.
“He is secure in his destiny to be king, but does not treat that destiny with respect,” Uatu said.
Thor shook his head. “That is not much different from where I once was.”
“I will say, the clean-shaven look is unsettling,” Sigyn said.
“So it’s beards now?” Loki said.
“Oh, you look fine,” Sigyn said. “It’s just on him.”
“Where is Sigyn?” Loki asked.
Uatu nodded and had the image change again. Sigyn sat at her desk in her bedroom back on Asgard, surrounded by books.
“Sigyn was not close with the royal family,” Uatu said. “Without the princes, she lived a much quieter life, and threw herself into books to find the adventure that her soul craves in every universe.”
Sigyn looked away and Loki put a hand on her back.
“You said we find each other,” Loki said. “How does that happen?”
“Thor finds Sigyn first,” Uatu said.
---
Sigyn and Rindr entered the banquet hall, and Sigyn gasped to see the size of the room and the splendor of the decorations.
“I keep saying, you need to pull yourself away from your books every once in a while,” Rindr said. “See the wonders of the worlds for yourself.”
“It is truly marvelous,” she said. “But, Mother, you know it’s not just fantasies.”
“I know, I know,” Rindr said. “And your father and I are very proud of your academic accomplishments. But when it comes to your fantasies, do you not wish for your life to have just a portion of what these books offer?”
“Of course I do,” Sigyn said. “But I know my place, Mother. A woman of my station does not reach for that which she cannot attain.”
“Not in public, perhaps,” Rindr said. “But in private a woman of our station can achieve anything she wants with a warm smile and a kind heart.”
Sigyn smiled. “You must tell me about your life before you married Father someday.”
“Oh, that is a secret I will take to my grave,” Rindr said.
---
“She’s still my mother,” Sigyn said. “My birth mother, I mean.”
“Of course she is,” Uatu said.
“So, I meet her at the party,” Thor said.
“In a manner of speaking,” Uatu said.
---
Thor groaned, clutching his arm. While most backed away from him when he fell, Sigyn went over to him. She knelt next to him and took his arm.
“Tell me when it hurts,” she said, pressing gently with her thumb.
He yelled out in pain.
“Definitely broken,” she said. “Give me just a moment, your highness.”
She started a healing spell to fix the break. Thor could feel the pain subside and he sat up.
“Better?” she asked.
“Much,” he said. “Sigyn, right? I didn’t know you were a healer.”
“I’m still in training, your highness,” she said. “I just got here first.”
He grinned.
“Well, I can tell you’re going to be great at it,” he said.
Sigyn looked away, smiling.
---
Loki gagged and the other two cringed.
“It’s a bit hard to watch,” Sigyn said.
“Please tell me this doesn’t happen,” Thor said.
“This doesn’t happen,” Uatu said.
The image shuddered and shifted.
“The princes of Asgard and Jotunheim were, of course, acquainted with each other, but never as close as they were as brothers,” Uatu said. “But after Sigyn claims her shield, all three would soon come together.”
---
Sigyn had almost fallen asleep on her books when she heard a clink on her window. She sat up. The sound repeated and she went over to open the window. Thor was down on the ground, ready to throw another rock.
“Seriously?” Sigyn hissed.
“You’re coming with us tonight!” Thor said.
“Absolutely not!” she said. “I’ve already put enough of my life on hold because you thought I should earn a shield, I have to work, Thor!”
“Wear something warm,” he said before walking away.
She rolled her eyes and shut the window.
“No,” she muttered. “No, I am not doing this.”
She looked back at her books and sighed.
Thor and his friends were wrapped in furs, headed to the Bifrost bridge. Sigyn seemed to materialize next to Thor, wearing a fur-lined cape.
“Not a word,” she said.
Thor just grinned.
---
“They’re going to Jotunheim,” Loki said.
“That they are,” Uatu said.
---
Loki knew that his father didn’t necessarily approve of Thor’s parties, and as a result, Loki didn’t often get to go. Not that he didn’t make his own fun at home, but when he learned that Laufey would be on a diplomatic mission to Vanaheim for a full week meant that Loki could bring the party to him. He greeted Thor warmly, and was immediately captivated by one of the people the prince of Asgard had brought with him. The girl with the golden hair shied away from the others, staying on the fringes. She watched more than anything else, not knowing someone was watching her back.
When he got the chance, he shifted down into something more her size. While he had no issue with how small the Asgardian woman was compared to him, he knew from experience that most women her height were often intimidated by his. His skin turned pale, and his eyes turned blue, to disguise him further. He shifted into armor that would blend in with the others and readied himself to approach her.
Loki chose to walk up next to her unseen and so when he leaned over to speak, she startled.
“It’s more fun if you join in,” he said.
She put her hand on her chest to steady her breathing.
“It is not right to sneak up on a lady in such a manner,” she said.
“I know, my apologies,” he said. “I simply wished to ask for your name.”
“Sigyn,” she said. “Lady Sigyn Heimdallsdóttir, sorry. Thor would want me to use my title.”
“You speak of the prince in a very familiar tone,” Loki said.
“Well, he decided one day that I would be counted amongst his close friends,” she said. “And I have not known peace since.”
Loki laughed. “Ah, well. I understand he has that effect on people. I don’t know him well myself.”
“I’m not sure anyone knows him well,” Sigyn said. “Not even himself. I’d like to think there’s something under the surface, or else the Nine Realms might be in trouble.”
“I would think the daughter of the man who sees and hears everything would know better than to admit the crown’s weaknesses to a stranger,” Loki said.
“And I would think a Jotun sorcerer would know better than to try and imitate an unknown member of a group where I am acquainted with every person in it,” she said.
Loki grinned. “You are clever, my lady.”
“So which one are you?” she asked. “Ölvaldi? Utgard?”
“I am nowhere close to achieving either of their feats,” Loki said. “I am… simply a servant of the king.”
“Aren’t we all?” she said. “But I bet even a servant knows where the library is.”
She smirked and Loki shook his head.
“Have you ever seen the palace of the king of Jotunheim before?” he asked.
“I have not,” she said.
“I suppose I could give a tour on the way,” he said.
He offered his arm, and she took it.
---
“Pemberley,” Loki and Sigyn said at the same time.
“What?” Thor asked.
“It’s from a book from Earth,” Sigyn said. “The heroine tours the home of the man who has been pursuing her, and she learns and falls for the reflection that it creates of his character. She realizes she was wrong about him and thinks on what it would be like to be the mistress of Pemberley.”
“Does it work?” Thor asked.
Loki shrugged. “Depends on the house.”
---
“And lastly, the library,” Loki said.
Sigyn gasped. The room was more than just tall to accommodate the height of the Jotuns, it was grand, with bookshelves in every inch of wall, filled with leather-bound books larger than any she’d seen in Asgard or Midgard.
“This is beyond…” She stopped herself before she said something potentially offensive.
“It’s okay,” Loki said.
“This is beyond anything I’ve heard that Jotunheim has,” she said.
“It’s mostly informational texts,” Loki admitted. “Our oral history is very strong, but there are certain things that benefit from being written down.”
“Do you have medical texts?” she asked. “I know precious little of Jotun anatomy.”
“I could certainly give you some hands-on experience,” he said.
Sigyn raised an eyebrow. Loki shrugged.
“What, I was supposed to leave that alone?” he said.
“Let’s just start with the textbooks,” she said.
“As you ask,” he said. “I can show you where they are, but I will have to return to the party soon. The prince will be asking after me.”
“Oh, don’t worry about me,” she said. “I can use the fireplace, yes?”
“Of course,” he said.
---
“What, I leave her there?” Loki asked.
“You’re supposed to be hosting the party, and it’s not like I can’t take care of myself,” Sigyn said.
“Except I’m assuming that something goes wrong,” Loki said. “Because something always goes wrong.”
“I feel like I’m more of an ancillary participant in this,” Thor said.
“You are,” Uatu said.
“So what goes wrong?” Loki asked.
“No one goes to find her until the next morning,” Uatu said.
The image shuddered and shifted to show Sigyn asleep on the floor of the library, curled up next to the embers of a dying fire.
“What, she dies?” Thor said.
“No, no,” Loki said. “That’s not— I would never—”
“She’s not dead,” Uatu said. “But when Loki takes her back to Asgard, they do confirm that she had hypothermia.”
---
Sigyn groaned as she woke up, pain everywhere. She tried to sit up, but felt a firm hand on her shoulder that kept her where she was.
“Don’t move too much,” a calm voice said. “I’m sure you’re exhausted.”
She looked next to her, and it was the man she had met in Jotunheim. She smiled.
“You,” she said.
“Yeah, great job I did,” he said. “Leaving you alone to nearly die in the cold.”
She shook her head. “It’s not your fault.”
“It’s a little bit my fault,” he said. “But we don’t need to dwell on that if you don’t want to.”
She laughed softly, then winced.
“Ow…”
“From what I understand, hypothermia’s a bitch,” the man said.
“It really is,” she said. “I wish I understood the books better. I’m not exactly fluent in Jotun.”
“Then why were you asking for the library?” he asked, almost laughing.
“I don’t know, it was more comfortable than the party!” she said. “And in any case, those diagrams were fascinating. The biomechanics of the cold magics, it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before, and the fact that you’re warm-blooded but with such a low internal temperature…”
She kept talking, and barely noticed that the man wasn’t so much listening as just wanting her to keep speaking so he could hear her voice. She trailed off, watching him watch her.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I never got your name.”
“…Well, here’s the thing.”
Thor burst into the room.
“Sigyn!” he said. “Glad to see you’re well.”
“Not quite yet, but I should recover, your highness,” she said.
“Mother was very worried,” Thor said. “And your father is wondering if I’m a bad influence.”
“You are a bad influence,” she said.
Thor looked over at Sigyn’s companion, and was obviously taken aback.
“Loki?” he said.
Sigyn blinked, looking over at the man. He frowned.
“It’s not an uncommon name on Jotunheim,” he said. “King Loki the Brave of Jotunheim was one of the great warrior kings of our unification as a planet.”
“I should think I could recognize the crown prince of Jotunheim, even with this elaborate glamor,” Thor said.
Loki shook his head.
“Sigyn, I apologize for any deception,” he said.
Sigyn looked away.
“It is my apology that is demanded, your highness,” she said. “In our conversation, I was impertinent and insubordinate. I beg for your pardon.”
Loki sighed. “You don’t have to apologize. You were exactly the conversation I was looking for.”
She glanced up at him and he was smiling softly. She looked away again.
“Thank you,” she said.
Loki looked to Thor.
“Can we talk?” he asked.
The two left the room and Loki fidgeted on his feet before turning to Thor.
“You and her aren’t…” Loki started. “I mean, with dragging her out and everything.”
Thor paused. “What, me and Sigyn? Wait, are you..?”
“I just want to see where it goes,” Loki said. “If it could go anywhere. There’s just something about her.”
Thor grinned.
“That there is, my friend,” he said.
“Sorry?”
Thor threw an arm around Loki’s shoulder.
“Come with me,” Thor said. “We will forge our brotherhood tonight, and I will help you win the woman you love.”
Loki blinked. “Are you always like this?”
---
“Yes,” Loki said, rubbing his temple.
“Am not!” Thor said.
“Thor, that was the exact line you used when you met Volstagg,” Sigyn said.
Thor paused. “Was it?”
“It isn’t the parties that attract Sigyn’s attention,” Uatu said. “But the smaller, more intimate moments.”
“That’s hardly a surprise,” Loki said.
---
Sigyn read on a bench in a public courtyard of the palace of Asgard. She felt someone sit next to her before she looked up to see who had joined her. She looked over at Loki, who grinned with a nervous energy.
“Your highness?” she said, looking away. “Is something the matter?”
“Nothing at all!” he said. “I just thought I’d join you.”
“I’m not exactly being particularly entertaining at the moment,” she said. “I’m just reading.”
“Books are good,” he said. “I like books.”
“Really?” she said. “I thought Jotunheim had an oral tradition.”
“Sure, right, of course,” he said. “But… books are good, too.”
“You said that already,” she said.
---
“Norns, I’m an idiot,” Loki muttered.
“An endearing idiot,” Sigyn said.
Thor snorted.
---
“So what book are you reading?” he asked.
“Something from Midgard,” she said. “A fairy story really. Far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise.”
She gave him a knowing look. He laughed softly.
“Sounds like one of Thor’s parties,” Loki said. “Ones at which I haven’t seen you as of late.”
She sighed. “Father worries. Almost dying of hypothermia in Jotunheim made him more cautious. Mother wants me to go out and enjoy myself, but I sometimes wonder if it’s better to save the adventures to my books.”
“I don’t know that I can understand that,” he said. “There’s too much out there to experience. What might a book have that could replace it?”
“Oh, I won’t claim that it’s the same thing, your highness,” she said. “But there are so many things I can find in books. Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.”
She suddenly noticed how he was looking at her. There was a distinct awe in his face that she wasn’t certain she deserved. She looked away again.
He’s a prince, Sigyn, she thought. You can’t run around with a prince.
“I-I mean, sure these things could be found, theoretically,” she said. “But the catharsis is much more immediate on the page.”
“Sure,” he said, absently.
“…Would you like me to read it to you, your highness?” she asked.
He blinked.
“Yes,” he said. “Yes, that—that would be wonderful.”
He grinned. She turned back to the beginning of the book.
“It is related that there was, in ancient times, a King of the countries of India and China, possessing numerous troops, and guards, and servants, and domestic dependents: and he had two sons; one of whom was a man of mature age; and the other, a youth,” she read.
---
“So how does this play out?” Thor asked. “I’m assuming they get together.”
“It is almost inevitable in any universe where the two exist that they find each other,” Uatu said. “But it is equally inevitable that Thor is the one that brings them together.”
---
It seemed to Sigyn that Thor’s answer to everything was a party. But to his credit, he had organized something small to celebrate her receiving her healer’s certification. A few friends and some food— it was not the kind of party he’d throw for himself, but it was perfect for her. She smiled at Thor when she saw it.
“Thank you for not throwing one of your meteor-shattering ragers,” she said.
“I mean, would you prefer that?” Thor asked. “We can certainly—”
“This is wonderful,” she said, before he got any ideas. “Thank you, really.”
Thor put an arm around her shoulders.
“You deserve it,” he said. “You’ve worked too hard not to.”
“Brother!”
Loki came over and hugged Thor. Sigyn pulled back, looking away. Thor, she had finally gotten comfortable around, but she was still deferent to the Crown Prince of Jotunheim.
“You came!” Thor said.
“Of course, I did!” Loki said. “I wouldn’t miss this!”
He looked over at Sigyn and his smile faltered when he saw her looking at the ground. He put a hand under her chin and lifted it. She gasped.
“I won’t have my friends not look up,” he said. “You’ll be forever walking into things.”
“Your highness, I am honored by your presence,” she said.
“You’re too kind,” Loki said.
Thor slipped off before they could realize he was leaving. Loki summoned a wrapped package.
“For you,” he said.
“Oh?” Sigyn asked, taking the package. It was quite heavy, and she stumbled back. Loki reached out to steady her and the froze when he touched her arm. Sigyn gave a stilted laugh and Loki grinned nervously.
“Sorry about that,” Loki said. “I should have, um…”
“No, it’s fine, I’ve got it,” she said.
Sigyn took the wrapping off the top of the package and opened it. Leather-bound books, with thick, Jotun-made paper were inside. She took the first one out and found a mix of Jotun and Asgardian runes on the spine.
“Are these..?”
“The books you almost got frostbite over trying to read? Yes,” Loki said. “I had them translated so you could have an easier time of it.”
“How could you possibly have remembered?” she asked. “No one remembers when I talk about books.”
“It was how we met,” he said. “How could I ever forget about you?”
She blinked, trying to figure some twisted logic that would come back to bite her like it always did, but she could only see a nervous sincerity in his eyes as he looked for her reaction to what he was saying and what he meant by how he was saying it.
Oh.
She paused, putting the book back in the package, putting the package on the ground. She looked at Loki, feeling a twisted tightness in her chest.
“Thank you,” she said.
“Congratulations,” he said. “On doing the thing, I guess.”
She brushed her hair behind her ear. “I suppose we should…”
“Of course,” he said.
He offered his hand to escort her to the rest of the party. She took it, and a jolt of electricity shot through the both of them. They couldn’t even catch their breaths before his arm was around her waist and his hand was in her hair and her lips were on his lips and they were drowning but so very much alive. They only paused when they heard cheering from the others and a bottle being uncorked. Sigyn bit her lip, looking down. Her face felt like it was on fire. Loki lifted her chin.
“Don’t look away from me,” Loki said. “You don’t ever have to look away from me.”
“As you wish, your highness,” she said.
He kissed her again.
---
“And there it is,” Thor said.
“Even when the both of you are complete idiots, I still stick around,” Sigyn said.
“As If I’m not raffishly endearing, asking you to read to me and looking at you like I’ve never seen anyone more beautiful in my life,” Loki said.
“You’ve always looked at me like that,” Sigyn said.
“Is that so?” Loki asked, smirking.
“We’re… happy,” Thor said.
Loki’s face fell and Sigyn’s hair fell in front of her face.
“Asgard lives,” Thor said. “We live. And we’re happy.”
The three didn’t say anything for a moment.
“Perhaps they are,” Uatu said. “But would you sacrifice the bright moments of your lives for these?”
“I’ve been down this road,” Loki said, sounding bored. “Are you suggesting that perhaps our lives are worth living even with our pain? That this is merely a possibility, and we write our own stories? I’ve heard it.”
“I think he’s talking about Nari, my heart,” Sigyn said.
“I know he’s talking about Nari,” Loki said. “And Sylvie, and Váli. But there’s still potential there. It’s all potential.”
“I, for one, would not trade my childhood for another,” Thor said. “Even with all the stabbings.”
Loki smiled. “Nor would I.”
“And I think I benefited from being brought out of my shell from an earlier age,” Sigyn said.
“You came off best in all of that,” Loki said. “Parents, your shield, your healer certification, and on track to become Queen of Jotunheim?”
“I will say, you as a full Jotun is an intriguing proposition,” Sigyn said, biting her lip.
“I think we’re done here,” Uatu said.
