I've started a new job since the last NaNoWriMo. They've never really gotten to see Writer Jessica. They get a whole month of her now.... It feels like centuries since last November and NaNo. It's been even longer since I've felt rather excited to tackle a new novel. But here I am, at the start of a new NaNo, tackling a novel that I have toyed and tinkered and debated what to do with. I'm tackling YA again, and I'm trying first person for the first time since elementary school. I'm trying something new. Random updates to wrap up April and welcome May: 🖋- I am beyond happy about using my pen name, and for the changes I’ve implemented on this account. I’ve started unfollowing every account that doesn’t directly feed my creative, writerly life because ✨I’m only on here to talk about books, writing, and creating.✨ Okay, yes, I follow cute animals, too. It’s called “balance”.) 🌌- I am *serious* about a buddy read/book club for Big Magic. It would be the perfect overlap of my professional skills and my heart’s passion!! Pls share below. 💖- I’ve been inspired by a former student/current colleague (you know who you are 😉) to try a new approach to healing my PTSD. The process is emotionally painful yet effective. I also get inspiration from nature. I like to take walks and let my imagination take me places I never thought I would go. 'Don't limit your challenges, challenge your limits' means getting out of comfort zones, thinking outside the box, and challenging what is comfortable. Sometimes, we get into an inspirational rut and lose sight of new ways to find ideas. We get comfortable in the safety of tried and true. But what do you do when the same old methods don't work and you're still uninspired? That's when you try new things! Instead of reading, play that video game. I can't explain why I've been slacking with writing. Why something I love and enjoy was something I just didn't want to do. Why I kept pushing to try and publish Book 2 despite not even wanting to write Book 2.... I kept being drawn back to this story. I wanted to step back in with these characters. I just couldn't find the motivation. I'll hang out with them as long as the story keeps flowing. I'm not taking the motivation I randomly have for granted. And who knows.
