I like to think that Marinette and Adrien have an abnormal lack of fear of heights from all their super hero flying around and stuff.

“You’re burning up.”
“You’re burning up.” written by @bugchat
-----------------------------------------------
Marinette plopped down on her bed with a great sigh of relief. After being repeatedly soaked with water as Ladybug fighting the latest Akuma, and then still having to take a test at school, she was too exhausted to do anything else for the rest of the day. She ate dinner, took a shower, and was now wriggling her way under her blanket. Where it was warm. And soft. And comfy…
A series of quick raps on her skylight made her body tense all the way over and eyes open to look straight into another set of eyes. Marinette yelled, flailed to get out from under her blanket again --she was mourning already-- and nearly fell off her bed in the process. Finding her balance by putting her knees under her and her hands on the mattress, she looked back up.
“Hi, Princess…”
He sounded so sheepish and apologetic she immediately forgave him. Not that he needed to know that, though. A bit wobbly, she crawled forward and unlocked the skylight. Marinette crossed her legs and put her face in her hands, trying to calm her racing heart down.
Chat Noir put his foot down on the frame of the bed and made half a spin to have his dirty boots hang off the side of the bed and his arms and head above the mattress. After she’d rubbed her face a few times, she put a hand on her knee, the other pointing at him accusingly. “You nearly gave me a heart attack, you stupid cat.”
He sniffed. “Sorry.” And then he sniffed again.
It wasn’t until she narrowed her eyes and made him put his hands up in defeat that she noticed the rest. The watery eyes, the red nose and cheeks, and the wobble in his head. She shot forward and put the back of her hand on his forehead. “You’re burning up!” she exclaimed.
“I kind of guessed that,” he said, moving her hand from his head and putting his fingers to his temples to put some pressure on them. “I didn’t go home after the attack today because of, eh, prior arrangements, so I have been outside for the rest of the day. Until now.” He sighed and slumped a bit, hands falling into his lap as he closed his eyes. “It’s so nice and warm here…”
Marinette stared. “You’re an idiot.”
“Hmm. I know. But I’m your favorite idiot.” And then he had the audacity to wink at her.
A small smirk crept onto her face as she tapped at her chin. “I don’t know, Nino has his moments…”
“I’m wounded.”
“No, you’re sick, and I’m gonna do something about that,” Marinette said, and then she climbed down the ladder. As she moved to her trapdoor, she pointed at him as he followed her with his eyes. “Stay there, take off your boots, and grab the blanket. I’ll be back.”
“As the Princess commands.”
“You know it.”
Marinette disappeared down the stairs, and he heard her take a little of a harsh landing at the bottom. The yelled “I’m fine!” made him laugh as he started zipping the boots off.
By the time he had kicked them down onto the floor and was snuggled into the side of the ginormous cat pillow Marinette had, she appeared at the foot of the bed with two cups of tea. She handed him one without speaking and sat down with her back to wall, feet propped up over Chat’s legs. She sipped at the tea and flinched at the temperature. Chat couldn’t help but snort, which earned him a well deserved glare.
He, too, made the mistake of assuming the tea was drinkable, and when he looked back up to Marinette to see her amused look, he found her pensively looking down into the abyss of her cup, none the wiser of his slip-up. “So, what’s on your mind, Princess?” he asked instead.
Marinette turned her gaze to him and stared him dead in the eye. “You gotta take better care of yourself.”
The brutal honesty behind the sudden statement made him blink, and then look down into his own tea in shame. “I know that. Ladybug keeps telling me to be less careless during battles as well, but I can’t help it. I gotta protect her, so she can protect the city. Without her, it would all be one big mess.”
“And what does Ladybug say then?”
Chat Noir sighed and hid behind his mug. “To be careful because I am important, too…”
Marinette hummed, a small smile creeping onto her face. “She sounds very wise. Listen to her, if you don’t want to listen to me.”
“I listen to you!” Chat Noir huffed.
“Yeah, about me rambling about tv-series and sewing projects. What about when I talk about how important you are to me?”
He choked on his tea.
“It’s true!” she huffed, a blush making itself known on her cheeks. “If something happened to you without Ladybug being there to fix it, I’d be worried! And I know you can handle a lot, but not everything. You can talk to me about these things. You know that, right?
Marinette stared at one of the protectors of Paris, who was blushing so hard he nearly matched her wallpaper, and didn’t feel the least bit sorry for his discomfort.
“You know I can’t say a lot because of my secret identity, right?” He looked so incredibly flustered. So unlike him. “I gotta keep a bit of mystery around me. Even towards you, Princess.” And there it was.
“But you can tell me some things, right?” she huffed. “I don’t have to know how exactly you got out of a sticky spot, but I’d still like to hear how you deal with pressure. Or just complete other things.”
She had his full attention. She could see it in the way he avoided looking at her and blew at his tea. So she pressed on.
“You can talk to me about your favorite series, your hobbies, and your dislikes. I want to know what you enjoy doing outside of school and inside. I want to know what your favorite subject is, and how you thought of a secret handshake with your friends. I want to know how much you enjoy being a hero and ‘just a kid’. About hero work, about Ladybug, about the pressures of daily life. You talk, and I listen. I promise.”
His face was half behind the mug, and the other half was now actually the shade of the wallpaper. “I’ll keep it in mind.”
“You better,” she smiled.

Why Marichat Is My Favorite Corner
It’s the Dork Ship.
No but seriously it is:
-Adrien is most himself as Chat Noir, without the pressures of his father or his “perfect” life hanging over his actions.
-Mari is most herself as Mari, without the pedalstool of Ladybug hoisting her up and casting a shadow.
-Mari can treat Chat as a proper friend, she can only stutter at Adrien .
-Chat can treat Mari as a proper friend, not gush at his hero partner Ladybug.
-THEY CAN FALL IN LOVE WITH THIER TRUE SIDES AND EACH OTHERS FAULTS AND REALLY THATS JUST ADORABLE
Of course in a perfect world they’ll reveal an it’ll all slot into place, because all of the corners are perfect and deserve to be together so my shipper heart can die happy.
But this corner is just my fave, so stop calling it the ‘Sin Ship’ you Pervs 😉

A Lie for a Lie (chapter 13)
Summary: "Because Chat Noir is dating Marinette." Or in which Lila lies, Adrien panics, and Marinette gets stuck being Chat Noir's fake girlfriend.
FFN, AO3
An Important Friend
Adrien is lucky that he gets back home just as Nathalie is threatening to open the door to his bedroom and wake him. Getting scolded for sleeping in is infinitely better than having his father discover he stayed over at a girl's house. Not that the rest of Adrien's day goes well. He's distracted during his Chinese lessons, messes up his piano recital, and even the photographer complains about his lack of presence during his modelling shoot.
"Still thinking about the baker's daughter?" Plagg teases as Adrien changes back into his usual clothes.
"Shut up," Adrien mutters.
"Ohh, you're going red."
"What? No, I'm not."
"Are too."
Adrien folds his arms. "Well, it's not because of what you think! I'm just … it's just …"
"Yes?"
The warmth in Adrien's cheeks spreads to the tips of his ears and down his neck. "Her parents really thought we … I mean they gave me a …
"A what?" Plagg's teeth flash in a sly grin.
Adrien groans and grabs at his hair, disrupting the style to give him more of his Chat Noir messiness. "I'm never going to be able to face Marinette again."
oOo
In the end, she's the one who messages him. He panics and almost throws his phone across the room when he sees the alert, much to Plagg's amusement.
"You gonna respond to that or keep staring at your phone like it's an akuma?" Plagg asks.
Adrien glances from his kwami to the phone and then back again. He takes a deep, deep breath and unlocks the phone. It's just Marinette, he tells himself. There's no reason to get so worked up. Marinette is a friend. A wonderful friend. Just because her parents assumed that he was getting hot and heavy with her in her bed (or that he was planning to) does not mean that he has to make things weird.
"Be cool," he murmurs.
"Be cool for who? For her? Pretty sure you ruined that when you tripped over your own feet just trying to leave her house."
"Ugh, shut up, Plagg."
Plagg cackles before flying off to find cheese. Adrien sighs and opens the messenger app. Marinette's smiling face looks back at him from her icon. He dubbed her Princess for her contact name, a fact that normally gets a grin out of him whenever he sees the nickname, but tonight he can only swallow and look at the little bubble with her words.
Hey
His body tenses as he stares at the three dots that indicate she's typing.
Sorry about this morning. My parents can be pretty full on.
No, he types. It's my fault for falling asleep on your bed. That was a stupid mistake. Did you get in too much trouble after I left?
Nope. Guess they thought embarrassing us was enough
Can't deny they succeeded there.
The conversation goes dead. Maybe she's feeling just as tongue-tied (finger-tied?) as him.
He waits. And waits. When he does start to type, her three little dots flash. His breath catches and he erases his half-started word, but she must have done the same. They repeat this three times, then a fourth with a much longer pause. Adrien doesn't know whether to laugh or groan. The whole thing is so awkward and ridiculous.
Maybe let's not do any more accidental sleepovers.
Agreed
The little dots come up again to say she is typing. He waits but then the dots vanish. There's another long pause.
I have to go. Night Chat
Night
Adrien sighs and flops against his bed, smooshing his face into the pillow.
oOo
Monday arrives. He's so sure he's got over his embarrassment and that he'll be able to speak to her normally.
He is wrong.
All it takes is one look at Marinette for him to remember everything her parents described about urges, safety precautions, and all the other things he would rather forget right now. His face burns. It burns so hot that he's sure he has to look like the reddest of tomatoes.
"You alright, bro?" Nino asks.
"Fine. I'm totally fine. Why wouldn't I be fine?"
Nino raises his eyebrows. "Okay …"
Adrien represses a wince and sits down gracelessly at his desk.
"Morning, Adrien," Alya says. "You up for another group project gathering tonight?"
"Oh, uh …" He makes the mistake of catching Marinette's gaze. Everything fizzes out of his mind and becomes a messy scramble to formulate words. "I, uh … I wish we could, but I can't tonight. Sorry."
They make the suitable sounds of disappointment. He determinedly faces the front of class. He really needs to get a grip.
oOo
"Alright," Miss Bustier says, "please go stand in the middle with your partner when I call your names. Nino and Juleka, Kim and Ivan, Adrien and Marinette, Lila and …"
Adrien blinks and twists around to face Marinette. She's got her hands crammed near her mouth as if to hide her expression or smother a sound. When she catches his gaze, her cheeks go pink and she awkwardly lowers her hands.
"Guess we're partners," she says, and gives him one of her strained, extra bright smiles.
He immediately feels bad. She's such an amazing person, and here he's been avoiding talking to her because he can't stop his thoughts from straying and making things weird between them. She probably thinks he's a huge jerk and doesn't even want to be his partner. Time for some damage repair.
He smiles and offers his hand. "Shall we?"
She blushes and stutters something incomprehensible. Her touch is tentative as she takes his hand, like she's afraid it's going to bite her. That won't do. He squeezes her hand, gentle and reassuring, and guides her away from their desks. Fresh pink blooms across her cheeks.
That's when she trips.
He quickly tugs her to him, looping his free arm around her waist. Now she's pressed all up against him, eyes wide and lips slightly parted. His breath catches in his throat.
"I can't believe Marinette," Lila says with awful clarity. "She's dating Chat Noir, but now she's trying to flirt with Adrien. Just look at her."
Marinette's startled expression shifts to flushed anger, and she breaks free of his hold. "I'm not trying to flirt! I just tripped!"
"Right into his arms?" Lila laughs and flicks her hair over her shoulder. "Yeah, sure."
"It's true," Adrien says. "Anyway, shouldn't you go to your partner? Max is waiting."
A smile of razors and silk curves Lila's lips. "Always so quick to defend her. Makes me wonder if there really is something going on between you two. Wouldn't that be a story?"
Chloe snaps out a laugh. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng cheating on Chat Noir with my Adrikins? As if. Adrien has much better taste."
"Alright, that's enough," Miss Bustier orders.
Mercifully, the conversation is dropped as everyone is called to stand opposite their partner. For this activity, Miss Bustier wants them to do trust falls. Adrien and Marinette share an awkward smile.
"Ladies first," he suggests.
"Oh. S-sure."
She turns her back to him without any hesitation. It's easy to catch her since she's so small and light. The scent of apple and flowers teases his senses, though it's much subtler now that he's not in his suit. Is it her shampoo? A perfume? He's tempted to sniff her hair to check, but that would be weird, right? Ladybug hadn't seemed to appreciate it when he'd sniffed her …
Marinette tilts her head back to look up at him, all shyness and soft pink. "Um, Adrien?"
"Mm?"
"You're still, um, holding me."
"Oh." He steadies her back on her feet and rubs the base of his neck. "Right. Sorry."
A touch of concern enters her eyes. "Is everything okay? You seem a bit … distracted."
He can't help but smile, touched that she cares enough to ask. But then that's Marinette. She's always looking out for everyone.
"I'm fine," he says, and this time he means it.
Sure, the whole sex talk and bed sharing thing had thrown him. He'd also be lying if he said hearing her parents say all that stuff hadn't put some confusing, guilt-inducing thoughts in his mind. (Because Marinette is very pretty, and he hadn't known how to handle those unbidden thoughts when he also knows with a hundred percent certainty that he's in love with Ladybug.) But Marinette is still his friend. He cherishes that friendship, cherishes her.
He's definitely not going to let a silly bit of embarrassment come between them.
"So," he says with a hint of his Chat Noir cheekiness, leaning in closer to her level. "You ready to catch me now?"
Her blush darkens, but her eyes twinkle. "I don't know. Do you trust me to?"
"Yes."
His response is instantaneous and his tone more serious than he intended, but it's the truth. He trusts her just as much as he trusts Ladybug. He always has.
She smiles and gestures for him to go ahead. Adrien turns his back to her and let's himself fall. Her hands are small but firm against his back, and though she staggers a little under his weight, she keeps him steady. Just as he knew she would.
"See," he says, stepping away from her. "I knew my faith in you was justified."
A soft smile tugs at her lips. "Of course I wasn't going to let you fall. You're my friend."
His heart warms. Friend. He will never get tired of that word.
oOo
Later, Adrien settles on his bed with his phone. He clicks on the conversation thread he (or at least Chat Noir) shares with Marinette.
Hey, he types. I know I've been kind of silent, but I just wanted to thank you. You got the raw end of the deal with this fake relationship, but I really do appreciate all you've done and put up with for me. As far as fake girlfriends go, you're the pawsomest.
It's only a few seconds before her reply pops up.
Pawsomest? Really?
He laughs and settles more comfortably on his bed.
What? It's a compliment.
She sends him a rolling eyes emoticon. He sends her a wink back. They back and forth like this for a while before he gets serious again.
I mean it though. Thanks.
No need to thank me. You know I'm always happy to help.
He does know it, which is why he smiles softly at her icon. She really is the best fake girlfriend a guy could have.

The Gift of Jubilation - (Pigella & Chat)
(and those who no longer receive it)
Porcalina had no trouble in using her gifts. Under another holder, the Miraculous of the Pig might be seen as an insult or as ineffective in battle, but Porcalina considered it much more like a party trick, and she reserved no qualms about it. When not using it for distractions, Porcalina liked to exchange her gifts like fortunes throughout her teammates, touting herself as a seer who could predict their most wanted future, whether said future be years beyond or the very next morning.
"I can always try again," she comforted Chat Noir. "I swear it's probably something I'm doing wrong. This doesn't usually happen."
Porcalina took her tambourine in hand and begun to sing. This was a necessary part of the process: She channeled the domain of Jubilation through reverent song, remarking to others that her Miraculous would guide how she sang and what syllables and half-words would echo around her. It was never anything resembling a spoken language, at least to Chat Noir's own knowledge, but it seemed to change depending on the person she was divining for. Ladybug would always be sung to in an innocent C Major full of princessy trills and ornaments; Renared's song was a calm B Dorian, and CARA.PACE's was E Locrian with many stops and starts. Many of them were in those more obscure modes, some forgoing classification entirely... And Chat half wondered if it was because the Miraculous itself knew Chat was analyzing each note Porcalina sang to find a pattern and was trying to throw him off its path.
But Chat's song was, like Ladybug's, in a regular key. Multiple, in fact. Porcalina would keep a steady beat on her tambourine and start in a brooding, ghostly D# minor. Porcalina's chants would break in form, often sounding like the grieving wails of a young mother, and then just as they started she would bow her head further and return to low chants and humming. Porcalina kept her eyes shut during these sessions, relaxing all her body so that she could be a true vessel to the whims of Jubilation, and with every sharp breath she would seem to rock back and forth in her seat. Then it would switch to a minor B, hesitant in its patience and spilling in shaky half-words off Porcalina's lips. Now the light which the world kept hiding in little corners would fly in and gather around the seer, enveloping her in a faint ring much like the shape of her tambourine cymbals. And as Porcalina would be tossed back and forth by that which she channeled, the ring would move to accommodate her, much like the rings of rock and dust that surround Saturn... or perhaps even a halo for some sleeping giant far below the rooftops of Paris, far beneath the ground. An omen that Porcalina as the augur she was was simply as much a pawn in the schemes of Gods as any of them were.
As she finished her incantations, Porcalina broke out into her final key: A♭ Major. Key of judgement. Key of the grave. And once her voice has swelled to its loudest... she sighed as if nothing had ever happened, and opened her eyes.
"There," she said, setting down the tambourine and guiding the light surrounding her with her hands. Her arms seemed to wade through the air as she gathered her vision, placing each shard of glimmering light into its place on a sphere the size of her head. "And now, if I did everything right this time..."
There was nothing.
Like the last three times before it, Porcalina had divined that Chat Noir's deepest wish was.... nothing.
Porcalina furrowed her brows, bringing the sphere closer as if the answer she wanted was simply one that was too small to otherwise see. "I mean... Perhaps this is a good sign? Maybe you have everything you could ever want?"
Chat stared at her blankly. Even the teammates he'd known for years could tell that such a statement was laughably untrue. After his short absence from the team, Chat had grown bitter and silent, with deep lines carved onto his face that made him seem much older than the others than he truly was. Hell, he hadn't even gone out of his way to request Porcalina divine for him because he simply couldn't care—His new demeanor was hardly that of someone who had everything he wanted.
"I told you there's no point in it," he spoke to Porcalina. The way his bangs hung over his face seemed to cloak his eyes in shadow, dulling even the bright green of his irises to a shade too dark to determine. And that was all he said to her before standing up and walking away to the edge of the rooftop.
Ladybug approached Porcalina from behind, placing a kind hand on the girl's shoulder. "Still nothing?" she asked.
"Yeah. ...It's almost like it doesn't work on him at all," Porcalina sighed. "Or maybe he just doesn't have anything worth wishing for."
Chat could hear them talk behind his back; They did it often, but not once did it go unheard. And she was right to think he didn't wish for anything anymore. He found no joy in it. Only the aching feeling that maybe, there was once something he had wished for... that he was no longer allowed to remember.

I need to know your clown theory based on the synopsis of Ephemeral that was just released! (new anon btw)
im so glad you asked because I JUST read it and I am. LOSING MY SHIT!!!
For those that don't know, here's the synopsis:
Tumblr media
Ok ok so obviously there is SO much to unpack here but I just wanted to say: I WAS RIGHT ABOUT ALL THE FORESHADOWING!!! I KNEW THIS TOPIC WOULD BE TOUCHED UPON THIS SEASON AND I AM LOSING MY MIND OVER IT. I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW ITTTTTT.
But putting that aside: there are SO many ways this can turn out. One sided reveal, reveal in which Su-Han finds out Adrien's identity but marinette doesn't, they find out Luka knows his identity and use him as a gateway to Adrien from this point onward, some other third thing.... my brain is FRIED right now.
The only clue we have as to how this all turns out is the finale synopsis that was dropped not long ago:
"When Marinette finds out that Adrien is leaving Paris for a few weeks with Lila, the new figure of the Agreste brand, she’s ready to do anything to prevent him from doing so; but to what point? Would she reveal her secret identity for the sake of love? And would Adrien take the risk of finally confronting his father?"
Based on this, we know that Adrien doesn't find out Marinette's identity in Ephemeral, but the question still begs of whether she finds out his. It would explain why she is so reluctant for him to leave, outside of her having a crush on him, and why she would need to expose her identity for him to stay.
But wait! To make it a clown theory I have to bring up reverse lovesqaure!
A one sided reveal would be AMAZING, but there is one downside to it; while I feel like we have substantial reverse lovesquare on Adrien's behalf being foreshadowed this season, we have next to none on marinette's behalf. Ofc, glaciator 2.0 airing this sunday can change that, but I feel like this show exploring mari's feelings for chat noir pre reveal would be so interesting :( but if we wanted to clown.... maybe she figure out she loves him in this episode before the reveal 🤡
Anyway, I am LOSING MY MIND STILL, more theories to come when my mind isn't elsewhere cuz of hw

I need to see reverse lovesqaure
Specifically, ladybug not letting adrien/Cat noir fall
We've seen adrien dash across the room to catch marinette, and iconic ladynoir scenes with cat noir catching lb
Now I NEED ladybug catching cat noir - like every time, no matter how convoluted
Can you see mari helping to steady adrien?? Absolute heart eyes and I refuse to be denied this request

"That's Just How You Treat M'Lady" was an insanely fluffy and sweet fic, with just the right amount of angst. In this fic, the lovesquare finds itself reversed, and the results are wonderfully catastrophic. But Nonny manages it so dang well and wrote so many amazing amazing scenes that live in my mind rent free, and it makes for a wonderful experience reading it. I HIGHLY recommend this jewel of a fic!!”
