"If he is alive he isn't telling me anything, that means he doesn't want to be found. It's like he is dead to me. I don't care. Whatever. You can keep searching. But I'm out."
Hey y'all, switch to Firefox. Like yeah I know that it seems a bother and Chrome works fine for you and I resisted for years out of apathy, and yeah in most cases Chrome does work fine.
But Google as a company is making real big swings against consumer experience and rights thanks to its monopoly, and I don't trust this to not get worse, for Google to attempt to turn Chrome and Chromium more and more into a walled garden.
Meanwhile, Mozilla seems to actually have our backs with this, is constantly improving their software instead of restricting it, and doing a settings import literally took less than a minute today for an essentially identical experience to using Chrome otherwise.
I say this even to people who enjoy other Google products; you should probably at least switch browsers. Very little to lose there, a lot for us all to gain.
I've decided the only valid answer to the question of "Could another Master have trained Anakin better/saved Anakin from Falling" is Jon Antilles.
This has absolutely nothing to do with any sort of personality differences between Jon Antilles and Obi-Wan or any belief that Jon Antilles would be a better teacher or has anything in particular in common with Anakin, and everything to do with the pure rage-fueled aneurysm that being Jon Antilles's Padawan would give to Palpatine as he tries to contact Anakin and is told for the 7th time now that Anakin and his Master were just declared dead again and no one's sure if it's stuck this time.
Position of transiting Saturn:The sadness and the despair is a message from the deeper self that something is making you deeply unhappy that you need to change
Position of transiting Uranus:Lack of inspiration and dissatisfaction is a spark about to blow and turn life upside down
Position of transiting Neptune:You never really know when you are under the influence because the trickster can fool even you into believing it never appeared
Position of transiting Pluto:Visceral, unspoken, internally sourced hunger that nothing else can imitate or fill. Can devour or even destruct every other realm of life to acquire its desire
Some months ago, I created a series of maps and diagrams for @iguanodontβββs Birdbug worldbuilding project, representing the planet inhabited by their original species and its planetological data. This isnβt the first time I mapped out this planet, as I was also commissioned by Ripley back in 2020 back when I didnβt have nearly as much experience and knowledge as I do now. Two years later, Iβve been commissioned once again to revisit this world and its peculiarities.
This first map (in Equirectangular projection and poles-centered perspective) depicts the elevation for this planet, with a color gradient applied to the data.
Here is the same elevation data, presented without the color gradient.
This time, the elevation is presented with bodies of liquid water included, such as rivers, oceans, and lakes.
and in this one, the water is isolated from the other data, against a white background
Next, there are the surface temperatures that occur on this planet, the key to which is shown above. The four maps below show the seasonal temperatures for land and sea, in order of Northern Spring Equinox, Northern Summer Solstice, Northern Autumn Equinox, and Northern Winter Solstice.
Correlating closely to the above data is the snow and ice cover, which is fairly extensive on this planet owing to its high obliquity and distance from its star. Land ice only occurs where the snow falls and is compacted year-round, but snow and sea ice can be much more seasonal.
Seasonal precipitation levels were another important phase of this project, and the below diagram shows those levels for a given latitude (y-axis) on a given date (x-axis), with a key attached.
My reference for creating the above graphic is the figure below, which comes from a 2019 paper by A.H. Lobo and S. Bordoni titled βAtmospheric Dynamics of High Obliquity Planetsβ, and shows Earthβs precipitation levels compared to those of a planet with an 85Β° obliquity.
The following maps can now be better understood in light of these diagrams and keys.
-Northern Spring Equinox
-Northern Summer Solstice
-Northern Autumn Equinox
-Northern Winter Solstice
I was also tasked with mapping out the extent and density of this planetβs vegetation (or at least its alien equivalent), and from this you can see how wildly it varies by season, with very few year-round holdings. Precipitation is a major factor in where it is possible for plants to flourish, but snow cover and the extreme temperature swings limit it too. Near either pole, for example, within the space of a year temperatures soar far above Earthβs upper limits and also plummet below freezing; if either extreme were to be the annual norm for a region, some plants might adapt to those conditions, but because of the wild fluctuation any adaptations to one extreme would leave plants especially vulnerable to the other. These regions, then, remain barren regardless of rainfall or brief windows of mild temperatures, while areas with less wide temperature ranges allow for at least brief periods of flourishing.
Determining the surface temperatures for this planet required a lot of background work. The first piece of the puzzle for this was knowing the number of daily hours of sunlight for a given latitude and date, which is exemplified first in this diagram for Earth:
and then for the Birdbug planet, below. Since this planet rotates on an axis of 60 degrees, there are many more latitudes within range of either pole that experience periods of sunlight and darkness lasting longer than a day. The higher the latitude, the longer this period lasts, with the poles themselves experiencing either condition for half a year at a time.
Another important factor is the height to which the sun is seen to rise (more scientifically, the angle at which the sunβs light hits parts of the planetβs surface), seen here first for Earth and then for the Birdbug planet. In these diagrams, white represents the sun reaching the zenith of the sky (meeting the surface at a 90Β° angle), and black represents the sun failing to appear above the horizon (meeting at an angle of 0Β° or below), while shades of green and purple stand in for angles between those extremes. For Earth and the Birdbug planet alike, the sun reaches the zenith within the bounds of either planetβs Tropic circles of latitude, and fails to rise at all only within the Polar circles of latitude; the difference in obliquity means that the Birdbug planetβs key circles of latitude are flipped compared to Earthβs.
The duration of sunlight and the angle at which that sunlight is reaches the planetβs surface determine a planetβs Insolation, that is, the amount of solar energy it receives. The first image below is a preexisting diagram of Earthβs Insolation, where it is measured in watts per square meter. The next two images are my own attempts at replicating this data for Earth, and then for the Birdbug planet.
As seen in the diagrams above, Insolation on the Birdbug planet differs from Earth not only in its latitudinal distribution, but also in its sheer intensity at the higher latitudes. Compared to Earth there are twice as many latitudes for which the sun is shining longer than one rotational period, and many of those latitudes see the sun shine at a direct or nearly direct angle, whereas the Polar circles of latitude on Earth see the sun shine much more obliquely.
Below, we can see the data that all the above figures were instrumental in finding: that is, surface temperatures. The first image is a preexisting figure that measures Earthβs mean surface temperatures by date and latitude, and below that is my attempt at replicating the data by my own process.
This is done not by just copying the seasonal Insolation data, but by also factoring in the yearly average for each latitude.
Above, we see the temperatures of the land by date and latitude, and below, we see the temperatures at the surface of the sea, which lag behind the land temperatures and remain comparatively mild.
Lastly, hereβs an image I created to combine the snow and ice cover as well as the vegetation extent and density, as of the Northern Spring Equinox.Β This, along with the elevation map also seen here, is what I uploaded to maptoglobe.com in order to produce the screenshot at the top of this post.
These maps and figures (except for the preexisting ones) were all created in Photopea.Β Higher resolution versions of many of these images can be seen in my dedicated Reddit posts, linked below:

in honor of inventing a ship name for cinders x rose, may i present to you some cinderrose fluff? spare eepies for my girls? let them rest? (also bonus, that top image is the canonical height difference between them in the dogstar universe! cinders is 6'4" and rose is 4'10" :3 she's funsized!)
Finally made a lineup of the four main characters of Astra, a video game me and @famulusmox are developingβ You play as Astra, the newly appointed royal jester, in a medieval sci-fi world. Your goal is to kill the king in revenge for the execution of Astraβs mentor in about one week (and steal his girl) (and man) in the process!
One day a message from space is sent to Earth, a call for assistance for the last survivors of a destroyed planet. The Justice League, of course, receive this message and a Team sets out to make contact with the group, ready to offer them whatever supplies they need and perhaps a location to rehome themselves.
Among this team would be one of the Green Lanterns, Guy or Hal, who are of course curious about why this group sought out Earth specifically instead of reaching out to the Corps? The answer to that question being quite simple:
To save the souls of their dead.
As it turns out, with the destruction of their Home World the survivors believe that not only are they at risk of becoming lost souls upon their own deaths, but the very Afterlife dimension that was attached to their world is at risk of ceasing to exist unless they find another world whose Afterlife can take theirs in as well, combing the two as one.
And wouldn't you know it, the surviving priests and/or mystics have received word from their endangered Ancestors that the Earth has a King of the Infinite Realms who may be willing to do just that. Once they reach the planet, they would be so grateful if the Justice League would be willing to help them petition this King for asylum for their people, both dead and alive.
The only problem?
This is the first time anybody from the League has even heard of this so-called King, and now everybody's scrambling to find out whatever they can about this being. And what little they are finding is nothing short of alarming. A mad tyrant who tried to invade the living world?! Yeah, they need to get on top of this fast, before the Refugees arrive!
Meanwhile, Danny just felt a shiver run up his spine and wonders if it's because his dad's latest batch of fudge came out a little too ecto-contaminated.
(Spoilers: it wasn't the fudge).
My personal Head-canon when it comes to the infinite Realms: the reason why we don't see any other religious figures or alien beings, is because Pariah Dark screwed up relations so bad with the other afterlife realms that the infinite realms has become largely cut off from everything else but Earth. Too much greed and trying to conquer shit to be considered a good neighbor, even by demon standards. Doesn't even matter that Pariah's been sealed away, it's still his dimension as long as he exists, and the absolutely hostile environment and denizens there prove it.
The word of today that inspired this post is Syncretism: (via wikipedia) the practice of combining different beliefs and various schools of thought. Syncretism involves the merging or assimilation of several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths.
The weirdest thing about watching Invincible is seeing Ollie still be a cute lil baby while knowing exactly what's gonna happen.
Like of course it's like that for everyone. Rex, Rudy (aka Rex as well itc). It's especially painful watching them drag out Amber and Mark's breakup and sitting there like that one Frank Castle meme.
But it's different for Ollie. Watching this cute baby coo while they try to think of a name for him just, idk it hits differently. It's like I receive flashes in my mind.
Anyways what grinds my gears specifically about the Barbie movie is the same thing that ground my gears during the feminist courses I took in college. Fundamentally, feminism is an analysis of gender. You cannot examine what a woman is or how women are positioned in society without also examining what gender is and how gender is created, maintained, and replicated on a societal level. This is an unavoidable part of the larger feminist project. And yet. In many cases. Feminist analysis focuses solely on the gender binary. Gender is analyzed through the lens of binary gender. You have men, and you have women. Furthermore, much of feminist analysis (particularly older analysis) focuses on heteronormative expressions of gender, because this is the driving force behind misogyny.
The problem with this occurs when feminists treat binary gender as a natural and normalized thing, as opposed to the artificial creation it actually is. Once you start looking at gender solely through the lens of βwoman experienceβ and βman experience,β you can very easily fall into the trap of gender essentialism, where you take one specific group of womenβs (and menβs) experiences, and you treat those lived experiences as a rubric by which all other women (and men) should be measured. This is how the white feminism we all love to dunk on was created; 2nd wave white middle class feminists began speaking to one another and formulating a list of Common Experiences that later became the Universal Woman Experience, to the detriment of woc, lgbtq+ women, disabled women, etc., who often found that their experiences with womanhood didnβt make the list.
And like. This is my problem with the Barbie movie. It falls into this same trap of gender essentialism. In the Barbie movie, there are two genders: Barbie and Ken. These categories are immutable and unchangable, and have very specific, rigid rules that must be followed. All the Barbies are femininity idealized; some Barbies are allowed to be fat, or black, or visibly disabled, but all of the Barbies are hyperfeminine. Every Barbie wears heels. Every Barbie has perfectly styled hair and perfectly matching outfits. Every Barbie has perfect makeup at all times. Every Barbie always looks runway-ready, no matter what her circumstances are. Likewise, every Ken is a study in idealized masculinity. While the Kens do wear colorful outfits that match the movieβs glitzy, saturated aesthetics, the Kens all have chiseled six packs and flawless skin. There is no fat Ken, or ugly ken, or feminine ken, and there is no Barbie who wears a crew cut and work boots. Weird Barbie comes the closest to gender nonconformity, but her nonconformity is mocked at every turn; the rest of the barbies treat her as though sheβs diseased, and weird barbie herself treats her short hair, messy makeup, and baggy clothes like a curse sheβs gotten used to bearing, as opposed to a source of joy or comfort.
And like. The movie is so allergic to showing any visible deviation from this gender binary that it fundamentally destroys its own premise. Weβre meant to believe that Stereotypical Barbie is becoming less perfect, and that this is a good thing, but weβre only ever shown this imperfection once; as a disembodied 1-second shot of cellulite that could belong to anyone. You never see the cellulite on Margot Robbieβs body. You never see Barbieβs imperfection manifest physically; instead, it remains in the abstract realm of imperfect thoughts. Likewise, the movie spends a long time critiquing toxic masculinity, but never extends that critique to masculinity itself. Kenβs moral lesson is that heβs just Ken, as in heβs just a man, but the movie doesnβt bother presenting an alternate version of what it means to be a man beyond vaguely gesturing towards the abstract notion of Masculine Man, But Good This Time, Because He Is Nice To Women Somewhat. So while the movie mightβve had some salient points with regards to gender and feminism, it gets lost in the simple fact that, just like mainstream feminism, it offers a shallow critique of womenβs position in society without critiquing the underlying binary structure that constitutes womenβs oppression. In essence, it decries patriarchy while continuing to uphold the gendered norms that reinforce patriarchy in our day-to-day lives.
And like. Iβve been seeing a bunch of posts about how itβs bad, morally, to critique the Barbie movie for [insert womenβs solidarity reasons here]. But like. The thing is. Why the fuck should I care about solidarity with the fucking Barbie movie. According to the Barbie movie, my butchness is undepictable. I am a shameful exile from womanhood just like weird Barbie; doomed to helping other women realize their full feminine potential without ever reaching it myself, cursed with butchness because of some latent trauma. The Barbie movie doesnβt care about my lived experience as a woman, just like the Barbie movie doesnβt care about weird Barbieβs lived experience as a Barbie. The movie doesnβt care about racism, or classism, or about anything other than a universalized hashtag Woman Experience. If you liked the Barbie movie, fine. If you saw yourself in it, good for you! But donβt try and tell me that the only reason I donβt like the Barbie movie all that much is because Im allergic to fun, or havenβt read enough feminist theory, or just need to practice solidarity better. Feminism isnβt a cudgel you can use to silence people who disagree with you.
