scent: deep oak moss
you were alone in malleus' room as he was still on the campus grounds, possibly taking his afternoon classes while you had already finished yours. you lay silently on his comfortable bed, staring at the canopy while waiting for him.
the scent of his sheets brought you a sense of comfort as you let out a soft exhale, turning to your side and burying your face into his pillow and blanket.
minutes have passed and he still was not around. you decided to cure your boredom a little, getting out of his bed and roaming around the room to look at all the trinkets and things you have already seen before. you then stood before his table, seeing regular school documents, dormitory-related documents, and whatnot.
then, there it was.
his cologne. you had not seen this before, but now that you were about to get your hands on it, you can finally see what scent he's been using all along. you reached out to the bottle and grabbed it, reading the name of the perfume as you mumbled, "deep oak moss...?"
taking off the cap, you sniffed it and hummed, "a forest-like scent with a hint of spice and sweetness... it's exactly like him." you then decided to do just a single spray on both sides of your neck before placing the cap back on the bottle and returning it to the original spot.
after a while, you sat back on his bed, his scent engulfing your body as you soaked into the feeling of warmth and comfort. suddenly, his door opened and he entered the room, smiling at you before he shut the door and approached you.
"there you are," spoke malleus as he held his arms out, and you did not hesitate to stand up and embrace him. as soon as you hugged him, he leaned down and buried his face on your hair and your neck, placing a soft kiss on your skin before taking a soft inhale and freezing for a moment.
'hm...? that fragrance...' thought malleus before he pulled away and looked at you before leaning down and taking another sniff, "did you use my perfume, sweetheart?"
'oops. discovered too soon,' you thought to yourself as you smiled sheepishly at him, "yeah... i... saw your cologne and i liked the fragrance so..."
he smiled at you and planted a soft kiss on your forehead before embracing you once again, "if you liked my scent, you should have told me. i would gladly give my cologne to you."
your arms tightened a little around his figure as you looked up at him, "i like your cologne not because of the scent, but because it reminds me of you."

scent: historical depth
you and lilia were having a study session for the finals - rather, he was stating historical facts while you were studying. at one point, he got up and decided to get some snacks and drinks for you, leaving you alone in the room.
seated on his bed, you stayed silent as you eyed the door, awaiting his return before looking back down at your book. you continued reading until you glanced at his bedside table, seeing a bottle of perfume resting on top of it.
"mm? oh, old man's perfume," you mumbled as you reached out towards the bottle and took off the cap, taking a sniff as you seemed pleased, "hm... a citrus with a hint of floral and sandalwood scents..."
you then sprayed your wrist, taking another sniff as you smiled to yourself, enjoying the fragrance as you looked at the bottle again, "historical depth... fitting name..."
"fitting name for an old man's perfume, is what you wanted to say?"
you shrieked at the sound of another voice in the room that it almost made you drop the bottle. you held onto it before looking up to see lilia smiling down at you innocently before laughing a little, "did i scare you, my little bat~? kufufu~"
a soft sight left your lips as you had a deadpanned expression, "don't sneak up on me like that." another laugh was heard from lilia before he got down and sat beside you, wrapping an arm around you before grabbing his perfume from your hands and spraying your hair and neck with it.
"wha━"
"there, now you smell just like me!"

scent: musty green
"hmm... where is it..." you mumbled as you rummaged through silver's bedside table, looking for his notebook that you wanted to borrow for reference purposes. his roommates were not present in the room, leaving you all alone as you continued searching for the notebook.
during your search, you happened to stumble upon a bottle filled with a certain liquid. out of curiosity, you reached for it and looked at the label, "musty green? oh, a perfume."
taking off the cap, you sniffed the scent and realised it faintly smelled like silver, "hm... spice with a hint of wood smells and sweet scents..." you looked around for a quick second before spraying yourself twice and returning the bottle back into the drawer as you continued your search.
you eventually found the notebook, grabbed it and left silver's room as you went to the library on campus. on your arrival, you sat back beside him and went through your notes while he was trying his best not to doze off while studying.
silence overtook the atmosphere for a while as you were busy studying. silver then continued writing in his notes, occasionally drifting off as he ended up leaning his head on your shoulder. you glanced at him and smiled a little, letting him rest his head on your shoulder while you continued to write.
"mm..." a soft sound left silver's lips as he shifted his position a little, his nose on the crook of your neck as he took a soft sniff of your scent. he opened his eyes a little, taking another inhale of your pleasant and somewhat familiar scent.
'the scent is familiar... is it my perfume...?' thought silver to himself as he spoke softly to you, "...you smell nice."
you blushed a little at his words as he spoke in a drowsy tone while rubbing his eyes and sitting up properly, "...sorry, i'm falling asleep again..." you merely smiled and patted his cheek, "it's alright. i'll wake you up if you ever fall asleep again..."
a smile found its way on his lips as he mumbled, "thanks..."

scent: honest aroma
it was the weekend and you decided to spend some time with sebek. you were currently in the lounge of diasomnia, scrolling through your phone while sebek sat silently next to you and silver, sipping on a drink while lilia and malleus were having a conversation.
a few minutes passed and the conversation was still ongoing. you leaned your head on sebek's shoulder, which made him flinch a little as his cheeks went pink, freezing in place as he did not want to suddenly make you uncomfortable by moving too much.
you did not notice his stilted posture, however, as you were preoccupied with your phone, texting the rest of the first years in a group chat. the comforting atmosphere was relaxing - at least for you.
then, a floral scent with a hint of spice and oak filled your nostrils as you took a soft inhale, liking the scent as you realised it was sebek who smelled so nice. you made a mental note to look for his perfume, wishing to spray it on some of your clothes to remind you of him.
a few days have passed and you have just finished your afternoon classes. you made the decision to visit sebek, and so you did. you entered his dormitory room and realised he was nowhere to be found, "...ah, right. i forgot he has club activities."
you sat on his bed, placing your books on his bedside table as you looked around his room, humming to yourself until your gaze landed on a perfume bottle neatly placed on the table. your eyes lit up as you remembered wanting to borrow his perfume, and so, you reached for the bottle and sniffed the scent before spraying it on your wrist and your hair.
"how lovely~" you cooed to yourself before looking at the bottle, "honest aroma...? huh, it fits him perfectly." it did not take long for sebek to return to his room, only to see you lying on his bed in a starfish position. he blinked, surprised to see you so relaxed as he approached you and spoke, his loud voice waking you up from your short nap, "human!"
you flinched and sat up, sighing as you held a hand over your chest, right atop where your heart should be, "dear me, seb. you scared me." sebek quickly felt bad as he spoke, "my apologies... i was not expecting you to be sleeping on my bed at this hour."
you rubbed your eyes, feeling awake now as you got off his bed with a smile, "i was waiting for you!" then, your arms were wrapped around him, giving him a tight hug which made him surprised. 'why is she so affectionate all of a sudden...?' thought sebek as he tried not to let his cheeks turn pink.
he leaned down a little and took a whiff of your scent, realising you smelled exactly like his perfume. he took another sniff, wrapping his arms around you as he spoke in a loud voice, "you smell pleasant! i shall gift you my cologne if it pleases you!"
"what? no, it's alright, seb━"
"no, i insist!"

Underrated hypnosis thing: hypnotic perfume.
You’re cuddling with your domme, and she just smells so good that you find yourself being lulled into a trance as she softly whispers suggestions in your ear.
You’re at a party, standing in the corner awkwardly, when a tall, gorgeous woman walks up to you and strikes up a conversation. She’s so pretty and she smells so sweet and you’re so flustered that you don’t even notice as she presses closer to you, forcing you into the corner where the scent of her perfume is even more overwhelming. You don’t even notice as everyone else leaves, leaving you and her alone. You don’t even notice as her words shift from the small talk you’d been making to commands and suggestions, conditioning you into a perfect little plaything for her.
You’re in a department store near closing time, walking past the perfume counter, when one of the saleswomen sprays some perfume right in your face. Unthinkingly, you inhale, and your brain immediately starts to slow down. It’s the loveliest fragrance you’ve ever smelled, sweet and a little floral, with notes of something you can’t quite place. You turn to ask her what it is, but before you can even open your mouth she’s sprayed another puff of the perfume into your face. Your mind goes blank for a moment, overwhelmed by the scent and a sudden wave of lust, and that’s all the opportunity she needs. She sprays out a dozen or so more puffs of the perfume, filling the air with a faint pink cloud. You’ve figured out what’s going on at this point, and you know you should stop breathing it in… but it just smells so good. As she reaches out and runs her hand over your cheek, you inhale sharply… and in that moment you’re lost. Nothing in your head but the sweet, fragrant pink fog swirling around you and the unbearable neediness that makes even the slightest touch an explosion of pleasure. She grabs you by the wrist and leads you out to her car, spritzing you with more of her perfume along the way to make sure you stay docile and pliant. She buckles you into the passenger’s seat (you’re too far gone to do it yourself) and takes a surgical mask and a pair of headphones from the glove compartment. She sprays more perfume into the mask, making sure it’s saturated, and puts it on your face. Then she slips the headphones over your ears. As you drive, you hear the sound of your new mistress’s voice coming through the headphones. You can’t consciously make out any of the words, but that’s ok. Your subconscious is taking them all in. By the time you get to her house, you’re already deeply conditioned to worship and obey her. Come the next morning, you won’t be able to remember a life without her. By the end of the month, you’ll be on a flight with her to a new home where nobody will ever find you— and if she takes advantage of the long flight and close quarters to turn a few other passengers into new adoring slaves, you’ll be right there, already drenched in her special perfume, to help her lure them in.
I mean, just… god.

On cherry and musk
EDIT 28/10/2023: Part two of the Perfume Rant is bout, about Astarion this time! + added a correction regarding the sulfur part.
EDIT 3/11/2023: Part three of the Perfume Rant is up, this time I talk about my OC, Nuria.
EDIT 28/11/2023: I kept forgetting to make that edit but I added a comment regarding the cherry and how its sickly sweet tone is usually used in perfumes to express death.
Hello hello.
Because Raphael's perfume, according to Yurgir, is exactly the type of scent that makes me lose my mind while being quite uncommon for men perfumes IRL, I've decided to go on a bit of perfume rant because I really like perfume in general (which is funny considering my autistic ass easily goes in sensory overload, especially atm with my state of autistic burnout).
To introduce the topic, I'd like to present some generalities about perfumes, so you know what I mean once I start losing my mind about why Raphael's scent would drive me crazy IRL (someone at Larian knows their shit about perfumes).
Perfumes are, most commonly, made with an alcoholic base (the Middle East also has an oil base), because the ingredients used to create the scents are more soluble in alcohol than water. There are distinctions in the types of perfumes once can find, based on the concentration of scented molecules:
Perfumed mists: less than 3% of scented molecules, low duration over time;
Colognes: the weakest concentration in perfumes as we usually know and use them. It has a long history as well, and was first worn by men;
Eau de toilette (here, understand that it's a perfume associated with cleanliness): count between 5% and 15% of scented molecules;
Eau de parfum (lit. "perfume water"): count between 10% and 20% of scented molecules. These perfumes are more expensive because they're more concentrated, however nowadays they're still commonly found in stores;
Extrait de parfum (perfume extract - pure perfume): count between 15% and 40% of scented molecules, the high concentration means it has to be used with care.
Now, why do we wear perfume? Everything around us as a scent: the soap used to wash our clothes, the food we cook, the deodorant we use... Our own skin has a natural scent. Wearing perfume is a way to control our scent and define our olfactive identity as part of our self-expression and sense of fashion. With hormones at play, not every perfume works with anybody - for example, Hesperide-type perfumes don't suit me, but work wonderfully well on my mother -, so the way a perfume sits and ages on one's skin is just as important as one's personal preferences in term of scents. Interestingly, for some decades now the most common perfumes tend to have a "clean" scent, which matches with Western standards of cleanliness. However, the goal of perfumes being self-expression, they also tend to tell a story based on the way the notes develop and work together.
We have various categories for perfumes, which involve the styles based on the families of notes, the time of the day and the seasons.
The main families of perfume are Floral (self-explanatory), Chypre (woody scents), Oriental (spiced scents), Hesperide (citrus scents) and Aquatic (water-like scents). These families can be mixed in the scale of notes to obtain a more complex scent. For example, Floral scents tend to work well with Oriental and Hesperide tones, Hesperide tones work well with Aquatic ones, Oriental and Chypre scents can be associated to create heady perfumes...
The times of the day are either Daytime or Nighttime. Daytime perfumes tend to be lighter, while Nighttime perfumes, often worn during events or at clubs, will be stronger since they compete with other stronger scents.
Seasons also influence perfumes, some molecules won't last as well in Summer as they do in Winter for example. On the other hand, some molecules will have a harder time expressing themselves in the cold of Winter, so heavier scents may be needed.
A perfume is organised in three layers to unfold its story:
Top notes: the very first notes, which usually don't last much but open the impression of the perfume;
Heart notes: the core scents of the perfume, around which the story is built;
Base notes: the lasting notes of the perfume, which close the story.
There is also two ways a perfume works:
Sillage: the trail left by a perfume;
Projection: the perimeter in whih a perfume can be felt.
Feminine and Masculine perfumes tend to be quite different as well. Feminine perfumes tend to lean on floral and fruity scents, while masculine perfumes will be more in the Aquatic and Oriental family with leather and musk tones. This is where I start my rant on Raphael's likely amazing perfume.
Fruits are rarely used for masculine perfume, to the point I'd say it's a grossly ignored scent family for men. Some years ago, I crossed path with a man in the metro who had the most amazing perfume, with raspberry in distinctive top note, unfolding into a warm woody scent. This is what got me into perfumes, because I had to find out what perfume it was - the most likely candidate is One Million by Paco Rabane, but even then I am not sure. This is a very specific and striking scent, precisely because it's so uncommon for a man to wear. With that in mind, let's remember what Yurgir said Raphael's scent is: cherries, musk and sulfur. I suspect we can take these notes in the proper top-heart-base notes, because they'd make sense that way both in term of perfume composition and as a mean to tell Raphael's personal story.
Cherries make for a sweet, enticing top note, perfect to express Raphael's ability to charm his victims clients. Cherries' sweetness is also often associated with the sickly sweet smell of death, and is used for that purpose in perfumes following that theme. Considering what signing a devil's contract entails, it's quite fitting.
Musk is a common note both for masculine and feminine perfumes, but it tends to be used as a base note. This time, however, it'd make sense to have it in heart note for at least two fantastic reasons: to draw people further in with a warm and sensual note, and because the base note serves to close the story better than musk.
Sulfur as base note would be extremely smart. One might ask me "but Crow, doesn't sulfur smell like rotten egg?" And that would be a pertinent question. It wouldn't be the first time a strange ingredient is used to complete a perfume by providing unexpected results. Here, we're not just talking sulfur, we're talking brimstone. Mixed with the other notes, however, it creates a smoky scent that serves to hint at Raphael's nature as a devil (gotta smell like Avernus!), and also provides a strong support for the sensual musk by adding depth to it.
We also have Raphael's boudoir invitation described as having his perfume: palmarosa and pepper. These scents tend to be heart notes, to compose a refreshing spicy floral: palmarosa is a floral scent with a citrus tone, pepper is what it says on the tin and is considered an aphrodisiac scent. Fitting the boudoir invite, considering the presence of a certain incubus... This addition in the heart notes would counter-balance the musk nicely and contribute to a layer of complexity with a surprisingly feminine tone: floral oriental notes are rarely used in masculine perfumes. However, here I think it serves to express refinement through complexity - something people often associate with Raphael, who presents as a noble (and is, by the Nine Hells' standards, a noble in his quality as Mephistopheles' son), as well as frames himself as an agreeable host who can offer many pleasures to his guests and clients (as long as they have something to provide in exchange - cue the sulfur as base note to remind of Raphael's diabolical nature).
Yurgir describes Tav as bearing Raphael's scent. Raphael was near Tav, which makes me think his perfume has projection rather than sillage. It'd make sense for Raphael to have a perfume more oriented towards projection than sillage: he'd want to let people know he's here, and it's a subtle way to dominate the scene as well in a magnetic manner - and we know Raphael has an imperious tendency, even in his handwriting, so having it expressed in his perfume as well would make sense.
To conclude, Raphael has fantastic taste in perfume in my totally biased opinion (this sort of perfume is a shortcut to make me swoon IRL), and what has been confirmed as being his scent/perfume serves to subtly support his characterisation and tell a story both to us players and the people he deals with in the story.

vanilla scent comes from orchids.
juno describes nureyev's cologne as smelling of spices from a far off planet, and something he couldn't place, which was later revealed to be the orchids.
vanilla and spices.

What do your boys smell like?
I talked about this a bit on this earlier post and I don't think I have anything significant to add to it at this time. But I could tell you which perfumes they might wear in modern times? (Scents are hard to describe but I included some of their main notes to give you a vaguest idea of what they're like).
Vasco
État libre d'Orange - Tom of Finland (iris, leather, tonka bean) Dior - Homme Parfum (leather, iris, rose) Tom Ford - Tuscan leather (leather, woody, amber)
Machete
Heeley - Cardinal (linen, myrrh, frankincense) État libre d'Orange - Rien Intense Incense (frankincense, amber) Lalique - Encre Noire (cypress, vetiver)

What is your favorite Candle scent?
(And also, if it pleases you, what do you HC the Dangans fav scents are?)
HMMM.... been pretty fond of sandalwood recently. I didnt know I liked it because I didnt know it existed with a name, but it reminds me of wood varnish found in stuff like old jewelry cases (or in my case, an old music box)!
Also because I actually wrote and drew something to do with sandalwood scent hehe. But. I dont like it enough yet to post it.
But on that topic;
Hajime doesnt like almost any artificial scent; he can smell the actual chemicals too well, and a lot of it makes him feel kinda gross (cheap perfumes straight up smell like pure alcohol). He likes natural scents, like petrichor or the shore, stuff that changes often and can't possibly be recreated in a lab.
Sonia likes a specific scent for a specific creme from her homeland that can't be found anywhere anymore. When she tries to describe it, it sounds ... weird? But she SWEARS it was great. And of course, she likes book smell. Learns to tolerate the smell of rodent enclosures.
Kazuichi is completely neutral about the smells in his near surroundings (he might smell like oil, grease, gasoline and sweat, but he barely notices (someone ELSE might notice, and even appreciate)). Hes always liked "girly" smells, like floral perfumes or laundry softeners. The smell of car air fresheners (like the little rubber feet) makes him nauseated.
Akane doesn't like any froufrou stuff! She likes the smell of food, exhaust, dirt, forest and sweat. All natural baby. If anything, she's a bit particular to the smell of rubber and leather, since she uses both frequently at her best (in the gym). For some reason, men's cologne makes her feel physically sick.
Fuyuhiko is a traditional dude and likes traditional smell, like incense, oils, and bamboo. Nothing too overpowering. Just plain soap, too. His least favourite smell is not something he'll admit out loud (at worst, he'll seem like he cant handle himself, at best, it's just depressing), and you could never tell anyway.
