Photographer Kevin McDermott's CASE STUDY series is new ongoing series of coffee-table books focusing on an individual model. The second volume of this new series focuses on the ruggedly handsome Matthew Dubbe. CASE STUDY | MATTHEW DUBBE is a 56 page hard-cover book of nudes bound in linen featuring a tipped-in photograph on the cover.

This edition of the CASE STUDY series captures the raw rugged beauty and sense of serenity of the California desert including Joshua Tree and Wonder Valley in 29 Palms. We also travel to the rustic mountain wilderness of Idyllwild, California with its blooming wildflowers and towering trees along the summit of the San Jacinto Mountains. These photographs bring to mind the retro sensibilities of 1970s Colt Studios and the various Californian male photography guild images of the '50s and '60s. The images are nudes and are completely uncensored.

A note from Matthew: " When Kevin and I first started working together, I immediately felt a level of comfort and mutual understanding between the two of us. As we began talking about creating this project, I was certain it would be a perfect match. I think that ease surely comes across in the images we've made. My friends love to tease me about being born in the wrong era. I love all things 60s and 70s. I believe this book is an ideal blend of the beautiful scenery of California with a touch of my own retro aesthetic. It felt so good collaborating with Kevin to create images that are truly a reflection of who I am. I really hope you enjoy this book!"

Born on this day 102 years ago: pioneering homoerotic photographer, filmmaker, founder of Athletic Model Guild studio and Physique Pictorial magazine, “the Cecil B DeMille of the posing pouch” Bob Mizer (Robert Henry Mizer, 27 March 1922 – 12 May 1992). All these decades later, Mizer’s beautiful, joyous and life-affirming vintage beefcake pin-ups celebrating firm male flesh are STILL widely censored on the internet. (Don’t fall for the faux “progressive” pinkwashing done by the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr). Last year I visited “A Hard Man is Good to Find!” (billed as “a bold new exhibition charting over 60 years of queer photography of the male physique”) at The Photographer’s Gallery here in London. It featured an actual posing pouch from Athletic Model Guild, sewn by Mizer’s mother, displayed in a glass vitrine. It was like witnessing a sacred religious artifact - like the shroud of Turin! (I took a photo which I really should post sometime!). Pictured: a “safe for social media” shot by Mizer, 1982.

I have a fond memory of me lying in your bed in only my boxers and earrings.

I loved this life that we had, our clothes scattered across the bedroom floor, our cat sleeping in the chair, our strip of pictures from the photo booth on the desk.

You made me feel like I was a kid again, and I made you feel the same. I look forward to the day we have a different bed, and I'll find myself laying in that one in only my boxers and earrings again. I'll look around at our new surroundings and love them all just as much.

And then I'll see you, shutting the bedroom door. You'll be in your underwear, your hair disheveled, but sleepily smiling as you crawl back into bed. And that'll be when I know I'm home.
