Headcanons on what songs or music i think toji would like but it’s really just what i like bc i’m lazy and don’t wanna look up new songs.

☆ Just gotta say one thing… this man was in his prime life in the 2000s…. He was listening to songs that are older than me 🥸

☆ okay Megumi canonically listens to weezer so i think he got some of his music taste from Toji. (i think almost everyone that develops a liking for rock gets it from childhood roadtrips with their dad)

☆ Toji only plays his music in the car.. he can’t stand the radio. …100% played buddy holly and meg picked up on it

☆ it’s mostly alternative and rock with the occasional hip/hop songs but he doesn’t really like new music, he’s an oldie after all

9. do you have a favorite band? - yoasobi! they debuted in 2019 so they're brand new and have only a few songs but they're fantastic in my opinion.

27. do you enjoy making playlists? any you'd like to share? - yes, i do! up until now i just stored my music into one big youtube playlist, no categories no nothing (which resulted in me skipping many songs depending on my mood and not being able to just hit play and fall back! sucks, right?) but very recently i've switched over to spotify so here are my two playlists!

40. which was the best concert you've ever been to? - i actually haven't been to any concerts! the artists i listen to are either active in america or japan, and i am in the middle of those two so none of my favorite artists come to my country. and even if they did, concerts seem very wild and loud and claustrophobic from what i can tell so i would probably not enjoy them.

48. criminally underrated artist you think deserves more recognition? - ah shoot, uh. i actually can't think of anyone. my taste is pretty popular, i guess.

Who’s the cuddler? Cherry. Once she and Wong are established, she’ll never let the man go (not that he’ll complain). She tends to cling and just loves being close with those she cares about.

Who makes the bed? Neither have ideal sleep patterns, but Cherry tends to actually make it to bed more than Wong and makes the bed when she wakes.

Who wakes up first? Wong. He has a very strict regimen and does a lot of astral projecting so he tends to be more alert.

Who has the weird taste in music? Cherry. She enjoys a very broad range of show tunes, loves some good classic rock (thanks to Tony and Happy), and has been introduced to some good oldies and Motown thanks to Stephen and Wong

Who is more protective? Wong. He’s been protective of Cherry pretty much since they met, but that has only increased ten fold since they’re feelings for one another have solidified. He’s also very aware of it and sometimes is take a back how far he’d go to make sure she never has to suffer like she has in the past (and has made him worry about his duties as Sorcerer Supreme more than once)

Who sings in the shower? Cherry. She doesn’t sing only in the shower, but tends to hum and sing to herself pretty consistently all day

Who cries during movies? Cherry. She isn’t afraid to show some emotion during a good show

Who spends the most while out shopping? Cherry. Wong tends to watch his funds pretty closely, but Cherry also has an allowance and inheritance from Stark’s passing so she isn’t racking up any debt either.

Who kisses more roughly? I don’t like the word rough as neither would be rough with the other. Wong is definitely the more passionate of the two and is doing his best to coax Cherry out out of her shell.

Who is more dominant? Definitely Wong. There isn’t a dominant bone in Cherry’s body.

I used to listen to a lot of kpop for many years but I don’t really listen to it anymore. I’m one of those oldies who likes kpop from 10 years ago and misses those wonderful times when every new song was a masterpiece :’) I have no idea who the new idols are, either.

Nowadays the only kpop I’m exposed to is the music I hear being played outside in cafes, stores, streets. I can’t even say I’m a kpop fan anymore. I do think the gradual alienation from kpop also has to do with my tastes changing with age, as well as having found music that I like even more.

So instead I’ve been listening to k-rnb and k-hiphop a lot in the last few years and my playlist consists of mostly that.

Nostalgia Bias

I recently came across a meme on Facebook, posted by a friend. The meme consisted of a reactionary joke about how Millennials don't know how to drive stick shifts or read in cursive, and that if we want to keep them quarantined, we should put them in cars with manual transmissions and give them the directions in cursive.

Ordinarily, I would keep scrolling past something as inane as this. Actually, that's not true. Ordinarily, there wouldn't be anyone on my friend's list, on any social media platform, who would post reactionary humor. I was truly surprised to see it at all, especially coming from this person, who has always seemed reasonably intelligent.

The first thing wrong with that joke is that it suggests that the generation struggling the most with staying quarantined are the Millennials. Which we know is not true. It is the Baby Boomers. Though Gen-X appears to be adapting best to the whole mess. Go team.

The second thing wrong with that joke is that we still teach children to write in cursive, in elementary school, as of 2020. The third thing wrong with that joke is that there are plenty of Millennials who know how to drive a stick shift.

One could just as easily say the best way to keep Boomers quarantined would be to lock them inside and hook up everything in their homes to smart devices. Ha ha. Isn’t that hilarious? Because old people can’t use technology, right. Yeah, except for all the ones who do. Betty White and Patrick Stewart, for instance.

I couldn't help myself, of course. I had to make a comment. Why? Because I genuinely thought that the person who posted the meme would realize that it was bullshit and be willing to acknowledge that. Needless to say, that's not how it went. I got the answer that I have gotten so many times in the past "yeah, I mean, that's TRUE I guess...but that doesn’t matter because it was rude of you to point it out.”

Was it, though? Ruder than the joke itself? Is politeness to a single individual more important than the feelings of an entire generation of people being maligned by a bad joke? I believe it was Dr. House who posed the question:

"What would you prefer, a doctor who holds your hand while you die or one who ignores you while you get better? I suppose it would particularly suck to have a doctor who ignores you while you die."

Now, I would like to point out that, as someone on the autism spectrum, I don’t socialize in the traditional sense. I relate to people by exchanging information. For me, that takes the place of socializing. That's probably why I am an educator. I like to teach people things. When I see something that I know is absolute bullshit, and I think there's a chance that it can turn into a valuable teaching moment, I cannot resist. Because it isn't just the person who posted it that is going to see my comment, but many other people as well.

Social media is wrought with misinformation. It’s pretty hard to avoid it. I cringe whenever I hear people using words like autistic or schizophrenic to describe the behavior of an ordinary, neurotypical person. Those are conditions for which there are specific diagnostic criteria. The same goes for diabetes, which you definitely cannot get from eating a bag of candy. 

So, what is it that makes people behave this way? Why would perfectly NICE, well meaning people willfully and knowingly spread misinformation? The simple answer is, they don't know it's misinformation. Which is the result of something called bias. 

Bias affects our critical thinking skills. It allows us to hold views that are completely incorrect and even harmful to others. And as we share misinformation that is based upon our bias, even via a format as harmless as a meme, it spreads. And it affects other people's views and behavior. 

The primary source of reactionary humor, such as that which I referenced above, is something called nostalgia bias.

Nostalgia is basically the belief that things from a previous era are superior to their modern counterparts, without the benefit of any objective analysis. Why are they better? Because they're old, obviously. No further analysis is required.

There are two types of nostalgia, historical and personal. The simplest way to differentiate between the two would be to consider historical nostalgia to be the product of anything that happens outside of yourself and to the larger group, such as your community, state or country. Personal nostalgia refers to that which affects you personally, your immediate family, your extended family unit, your school or workplace.

Psychologists have found that personal nostalgia (as opposed to historical nostalgia) can be a stabilizing force that anchors people emotionally and helps them to overcome trauma and loss. But on the flip side, historical nostalgia is likely to prevent people from being open to change by making them dependent on the memories of an idealized past.

I can't even count the number of times I have found myself on YouTube, watching a music video for a song that is (at least) 20 years old or more, and I made the mistake of scrolling down to read the comments. Because, inevitably, there will always be someone in there saying something to the effect of "they don't make music like THIS anymore" and/or "the music they make these days is crap!" And I roll my eyes because such a declaration is purely nostalgic and pretty much the antithesis of critical thinking. 

I am 42 years old. I remember hearing people say that “new music sucks” in 1984. Which is a relatively long time ago for me. But comparatively speaking, a mere hiccup for mankind. I suspect that people have been making such sweeping statements since long before I came into existence. They were bullshit then and they’re bullshit now.

There has always been bad music. Always. Just as there has always been good music. But what does it mean for music to be good or bad? Well, unless you’ve been academically trained in music theory or have acquired decades of performance experience, not a whole lot. For the average person it means that you either like it or you don’t. If you like it, it’s good. If you don’t, it’s bad. Really it’s only a valid measurement for the individual in question. Even if you manage to find 500 people who agree with your opinion, it's still not an objective measurement. Because art cannot be objectively measured.

It's important to consider the fact that genuinely bad music rarely survives to be appreciated by future generations. Meaning that the music that does survive represents the most popular, most commercially successful, most critically acclaimed work of that era. There's a reason why you aren't hearing Milli Vanilli on the oldie's station. Although, I suspect that is more likely related to the whole lip syncing scandal, but I digress.

It's also important to consider why people like or dislike things. Is it actually because they’re good or bad? Unfortunately, no. It's entirely a matter of personal taste. There are things that I like that I know are probably bad. Low budget, found footage horror films, for instance. No award winners among them. Some of them are comprised of video taken with a cell phone. But I love them all the same.

Like all art, music is very personal. We can hear a song and are immediately transported back to a specific time or place. For many of us, music is an escape from reality, or a window to another world. Thus, music is very much connected to our memory of events and the feelings that we attach to those memories. This is what contributes to our skewed perception that something is better because it is old. In actuality, it is better for us, personally, because it represents memories and feelings that we enjoyed or that we still enjoy. As more and more time passes, those memories become increasingly idealized in our minds. So much so that nothing new could possibly compare.

The arts are important to society. It is not logical to suggest that newer generations are producing inferior art, simply because their art does not appeal to older people. New art doesn’t need to appeal to older people, because it’s not really FOR them. They aren’t the intended audience. It’s not a reflection of their generation's interests, values or struggles. 

For some older people, new art is a reminder of mortality. It is a reminder that they are aging, or that they are no longer as relevant to society as they once were. And they deal with the discomfort of that by rejecting or invalidating new things. Which is a miserable way to live.

So, think critically, my friends. Even when you’re assessing something as harmless as a meme. Look for bias and when you see it, don’t be afraid to call it out. And as you get older, try to stay as open minded as possible. Or else, someday, someone might lock you inside a car with a manual transmission and give you an instruction manual written only in cursive.

Author’s Note: Hello! This is the first piece of writing I have ever posted on here so I’m a little nervous. However, i was so inspired by Stranger Things 3 that I needed to write. Please enjoy and be kind! I am planning for this to be an ongoing fanfic! Feel free to send me a question/message, I’d love to hear feedback! In this series, each chapter will be named after a favorite oldie song of mine that relates to the chapter! I recommend listening to the song while reading the chapter! 

About the Story: Stacie Miller used to be the IT girl of Hawkins High. She was popular, beautiful, and kind. However, after graduating, Stacie finds herself working at the local Family Video without any clue what she wants to do with her life. Her family is a mess and she has no friends in sight. However, the appearance of an old acquaintance changes the direction of Stacie’s life forever and reminds her that Hawkins isn’t so bad if you look at it from the right perspective. Through music and laughter, smiles and tears, jokes and stories, Stacie learns to love herself, and her life, again. 

Manic Monday 

Mondays sucked. Sure, everyone said that, but Stacie Miller was convinced some higher being was out to get her because every single one of her Mondays lately appeared to be completely terrible. 

Today proved no different. She had woken up with a throbbing headache. She had stayed in the shower just a tad too long leading to her being 5 minutes late to work. Her mom was having a bad day, which meant Stacie was going to be worried about her all day. All of this leading to her standing behind the desk at the worst job in the world: Family Video.

Don’t get Stacie wrong, she loved a good movie just like the next person; however, she hated working and selling movies. It consisted of annoyed parents, pre-teen kids, and high high schoolers all trying to find the latest John Hughes movie. She had seen more toddler meltdowns than any 19 year-old would every wanna see.

Stacie sat quietly behind the counter, staring at her nails. It was 9:00 am and who in Hawkins, Indiana on a Wednesday in September was going to buy a movie at 9:00am? No one, that’s who. So, the place was dead and Stacie was all alone. Keith her manager had told her a new employee was going to be coming in today to train; however, he had told her that before and no one had shown, so she had low hopes. 

She snagged a magazine that stood in front of the counter and began to read through it. This issue of Cosmo was giving her relationship advice on “How to Nail Down the Most Bitchin’ Guy!”, causing Stacie to scoff to herself. A year ago she would not have needed it. Nearly every guy in her grade had asked her out at one point, all wanting a taste of the Stacie Miller. 

Today, though? Well, Stacie was convinced she was the only person from her graduating class that had stayed in Hawkins. So, she was pretty much the only single, young adult in all of Hawkins. 

She sighed, thinking back to high school. She had been so...cool? No, that was definitely not the word. She had been popular. Not in the conceited, self-obsessed way. In the way that she had a lot of friends and people who admired her. She was kind to people and made a point to get to know everyone. Sure, she had a bit of a reputation for enjoying a boy or two here and there. And, sure, she partied a bit. But she had always been a good person, at least, she hoped she had.

So, she felt a little self-pity as she realized one of the most popular girls in Hawkins was sitting alone in a Family Video fantasizing about what had been. 

Oh how the mighty have fallen. She was officially a has-been. 

Stacie ran a hand through her blonde, curly hair and closed her eyes groaning. This was just embarrassing at this point. She needed to stop to stop her whining. She was literally annoying herself with these thoughts. This was the life she had chosen for herself and she needed to accept it and stop complaining about where she ended up. She had given up college and her future so her family could be okay. It was worth the sacrifice. 

This was her life. Time to grow up and deal with it. Her reflective thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of the bell that signaled the door was opening. 

Stacie looked up and made eye contact with the last person she had ever thought she’d see here.

there are moments when anxiety can get the best of him and tristan can get a little overwhelmed or stressed out. this isn’t something that he normally expresses outwardly, so this is a playlist for headphones only, one that he plays in the privacy and sanctuary of his bedroom where he can be alone and breathe. some of the songs are pretty emo, and although he does like the lyrics of each and every one of them it’s not what he’s paying attention to -- it’s the slow melody and it’s calmness that it gives him.

this playlist consists of songs that tristan really just likes in general. there is no deep meaning behind the playlist and there is a multitude of reasons as to why he likes each and every song within it. his liking of them all ranges from things such as the lyrics, the beat, the chorus, the artist in general, or even one single part that he just likes to hear over and over again. the one thing these songs do tend to do though is put him in a good mood when he plays them, so whenever he’s looking for a cheer up playlist? this is usually his go-to.

this is the playlist that tristan has to use every single time when he’s deep into his work editing pictures and trying to focus. it has a wide range of different types of song, but most of them are a little bit edgier, a bit more on the r&b/rap end and a lot more upbeat because that’s what he needs when he’s trying to get a shit ton of work done. he can’t handle his emo ass music when he is days behind on his work because it’ll just kill the flow of everything. this playlist gets him through it every single time. it’s sacred.

although it looks seemingly innocent and playful, tristan doesn’t actually listen to this playlist all that much. but it’s there and it holds a good collection of songs that his father used to play for him and his family when he was younger and growing up. he was a big fan of the oldies, and for awhile they were all tristan knew until he grew up and expanded his own interests and taste in music. the playlist is pretty sentimental, and when he does choose to play it, it’s usually the result of an off day of some sort.

who texts/rings to check how their day is going: Yamamoto will call or text consistently throughout the day but Gokudera will always call at least once, always on his way home and always to say he’ll see you soon and to see if either of you need anything.

who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts: Gokudera. You have no idea where he finds some of the really, really odd things he’s gotten the both of you over the years but he comes up with some doozies - a sacred christening of your new apartment by a certified priest was just the beginning.

who gets up first in the morning: Yamamoto without a doubt. Gokudera’s a night owl and sleeps late while Yamamoto’s the exact opposite - early to bed and early to rise. He’s usually up by six thirty in the morning, seven at the latest.

who suggests new things in bed: Yamamoto. While Gokudera’s kinkier, when all is said and done, Yamamoto’s the more unashamed about suggesting new things or mentioning kinky things.

who cries at movies: Both of them. Never say anything to either of them about it and pretend it’s not happening. They’ll be very thankful.

who gives unprompted massages: Neither of them. You’d have to be the one to or someone would have to ask. Neither of them really think about massages or backrubs all that much until they’re in actual need of one or something prompts the thought.

who fusses over the other when they’re sick: Gokudera, surprisingly. While he’s not a good doctor, really, and will grump and grouch about you guys making him sick, to the point where you’ll feel a little bad, he won’t leave either of you. He’ll sit in the same room, doing paperwork, his phone near by, but he won’t leave the room except to pee, get medicine, or cook for the two of you. He’s secretly a little worried about what might happen if either of you were to ever get seriously sick on him. He’d be lost without the two of you.

who gets jealous easiest: Gokudera by a country mile. Yamamoto’s never been the jealous type but Gokudera, with his self-esteem issues, has always had some issues with jealousy. He’ll sometimes even grow jealous of one or the other of his partner’s and they’ll have to make sure he’s included in everything for quite some time going forward.

who has the most embarrassing taste in music: It’s a toss-up. Yamamoto likes the music that you’d normally only find on ‘sweating to the oldie’s with Richard Simmons’ while Gokudera likes emo and not ironically. Take your pick.

who collects something unusual: Gokudera. He has a large collection of paranormal books, magazines, and paraphernalia. 

who takes the longest to get ready: It’s a tie between you and Gokudera. Yamamoto’s always quick to get ready and can be out the door in five to ten minutes if he absolutely has to be. Gokudera’s a really slow start though because most of the time he doesn’t want to go wherever he’s going. Honestly, he’s a little vain too and he’ll hem and haw over wearing this or that and making sure his hair looks good. He’s out of there in twenty minutes, at the very earliest.

who is the most tidy and organised: Gokudera. Yamamoto can be a bit sloppy in some things, especially when it comes to leaving his dirty towels on the floor or not cleaning the sink after he brushes his teeth or shaves. While Gokudera’s workspace will be messy, it’s a very organized mess. Everything in his living space has to be at least an organized mess. A chaotic mess will stress him out.

who gets most excited about the holidays: Yamamoto. Gokudera tries to hide how excited he gets because he doesn’t want to seem anything less than cool while Yamamoto’s always open about how excited he is to celebrate the holidays with his partners.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: Yamamoto always big spoons while Gokudera can go either way. Honestly though, they prefer having you between the two of them while cuddling over spooning, which doesn’t easily accommodate three.

who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports: It’s a tie. Gokudera hates to lose and Yamamoto’s got a fine competitive spirit honed through so many years in sports. Board games can be hell when the three of you play.

who starts the most arguments: Gokudera, without a doubt. He’s an argumentative, stubborn, hot-headed guy and that doesn’t magically change just because he’s in a relationship.

who suggests that they buy a pet: It would be either you or Yamamoto. Gokudera doesn’t want pets, claiming the box animals count and arguing against the cost and time restraints having a pet puts on you. 

what couple traditions they have: There is always a board game night throughout the month. They always attend at least one ball game per month during baseball season and Gokudera and Yamamoto always cheer for opposing teams. They watch their shows together in bed and don’t anyone dare Netflix cheat on the others.

what tv shows they watch together: Stranger Things is a huge one. There is a countdown for the next season. Yamamoto watches a lot of sports on television and you or Gokudera might veg with him while he does so. 

what other couple they hang out with: No one. Gokudera’s a private person and doesn’t like the idea of ‘couple hang-out’s’. There’s not too many people willing to put up with him or accept the oddities of your relationship with the two anyway.

how they spend time together as a couple: However, wherever, whenever. They all lead very busy lives so they’re constantly seeking out even the smallest moments, where they can fit in a hug or a conversation, to keep connected.

who made the first move: You would’ve had to. Neither boy was comfortable bringing it up, though they both wanted to, after the initial drunken hookup.

who brings flowers home: Yamamoto. He always brings flowers for Valentine’s and your birthday.

who is the best cook: Yamamoto or you. Gokudera is not a good cook and he largely stays out of the kitchen.

Natasha and Strange

Who’s the cuddler? Natasha (although I see Stephen as a very willing participant. The man is just constantly in his own world to initiate sometimes)

Who makes the bed? Wong. Neither of these two have a consistent sleep pattern and actually sleep in the bed once in a blue moon…unless we’re discussing other activities. In that case, Stephen, because magic powers means quicker

Who wakes up first? Again. Neither of these two sleep well, but Stephen since he does have some extra sensory magic abilities and is more alert to the outside world

Who has the weird taste in music? I feel like this is a tie. Between Natasha’s upbringing in both Russia and a background in classic ballet and Stephen’s love of oldies, these two hit some pretty niche demographics.

Who is more protective? Natasha. Not that Stephen doesn’t care and that he doesn’t show it, but Natasha is a trained assassin and has undergone hell to rebuild herself. She won’t hesitate to protect those she loves or stoop to violence to do so.

Who sings in the shower? Stephen. Absolutely Stephen.

Who cries during movies? I feel like Natasha would, although neither strike me as the crying type

Who spends the most while out shopping? Stephen. He’s gotten away from a lot of material goods, but there’s some luxuries he still enjoys

Who kisses more roughly? I think it depends on the moment. Both are passionate. Im leaning towards Natasha though

Who is more dominant? Definitely Natasha

My rating of the ship from 1-10. 8 (but I am very bias because I have tons of lovely muns that rp both these characters to perfection and I can only hope I captured some of their quirks here)

Day 9 brings you a little drabble about music and Dean. Just a little head-canon I have that Dean sings oldies but goodies to/for/about Sam.

Music To Sam’s Ears

Music has a large place in a lot of Sam’s memories. Whether it’s from the earliest (sitting in the back seat of the impala with Dean listening to their father’s choices), or more recent (sitting in the passenger seat listening to Dean blast classic rock) or even the quieter decibels of his own more diverse tastes -it’s there in many of his memories.

A lot of those memories consist of Dean (and sometimes himself) singing along.

When they were younger Dean would purposely sing the wrong lyrics or sing completely off key -usually to make Sam laugh. It always worked too. Sam could never stay angry, sad or upset for very long during those songs.

As he got older he realized that maybe the off key singing wasn’t as intentional on Dean’s part as he’d pretended.

Sam can’t be sure really.

When he knows someone is listening Dean seems to sing more off key than when he thinks he’s alone.

Nowadays it’s a rare thing for him to catch Dean singing out loud. But it happens.

Just the other morning he returned earlier than usual, from his morning run and caught Dean in the kitchen getting a cup of coffee. He’d still been in his robe and slippers but he’d also been wearing his headphones (and therefore unaware of Sam’s approach/presence) and singing along to The Temptations “Just My Imagination”, a song that Sam would never have believed that Dean would listen to much less know well enough to sing along with.

And if Sam had stood there listening, imagining that Dean was singing about him, well it wouldn’t have been the first time.

Sure Dean had hit some bad notes but Sam doesn’t care. Whatever songs Dean sings in whatever key he sings them in, it’s music to Sam’s ears because it means that Dean is happy.

And that makes him happy too.

Oh that was perfect anon. I love that idea of little Dean singing to baby Sam. The idea of Dean singing that song while thinking of Sam would just be so Dean and it brought tears to my eyes.
