Roadkill - Aaron Hotchner Imagine

Based around the season 4 episode 23 titled Roadkill! I am going through a rewatch right now and just watched this one!! Also I am trying to stick to the storyline of the episode, but obviously things will be a little different in how they play out 🤩 3.6K

"How do you feel about Oregon?" JJ asks immediately after I pick up on the third ring.

"I have a feeling I would like Oregon a lot more when it isn't 3:00a.m." I tease, sitting up in bed, already knowing whatever she's calling for is going to be bad enough to to call us in this early.

"Can you be in to the office to brief in an hour? Wheels are up around 4:30."

"I'll be there!"

We both get off the phone so we can pack our go bags and get the day started, although earlier for both of us then intended. I manage to take a fast shower by the time I get out my phone is ringing again, this time it's unit leader Aaron Hotchner.

"I assume you've been informed that we have a case and we're meeting shortly." Hotch has his stern, yet tired voice on.

"Yep, showered squeaky clean. I just need some coffee and I will be on my way!" I smile, wringing out the moisture that's still in my hair and put the phone on speaker to set it down on the bathroom counter.

"I actually just made too much, I'm on my way in now. I could bring you coffee." He offers.

I pause in my actions, surprised by the offer. Although I would've been a lot more shocked a couple weeks ago. When I started with the team Hotch was going through a divorce, but in recent weeks there's been a shift in our dynamic and I'm not sure I'm dreaming it up. It all started a couple weeks back when I dropped off some baked goods after a rare long weekend away from work for him and Jack since it was his weekend to have him. They invited me to stay and I spent the rest of the afternoon with the boys. By the end of the night I was calling him by his first name instead of 'Hotch' which was a new development. Ever since it's been small gestures and looks that tell me something is different.

I've been a part of the BAU for a couple years, growing in confidence and skill the more cases I get under my belt. I spent four years in the military as a designated marksman before continuing my training with the FBI, which lead me to the Counterterrorism Division, and then to the BAU.

"That sounds great actually." I grin. Bringing me coffee to work is another new thing. Aaron has been chattier, smiling more, but coffee is a new ball park.

"Alright, I will be in around twenty. Drive safe."

I mutter back a "you too" before we both hang up. As I make my way into the office I'm the first to reach the bullpen, I came a little early once I knew Aaron was going to be in. A traveling mug is sitting on my desk and I take a long sip. It's still hot, and it's exactly how I always make it. It's also the traveling mug he almost always can be seen with. I set my bag down by my desk before climbing up the stairs to Aaron's office.

"Good morning." I knock lightly on his open door, "Thank you for this. It's perfect."

He looks up from the folder in front of him and the frown leaves his face.

"I'm glad."

I take a seat in one of the chairs across from his desk. It'll be fifteen minutes before the rest of the team joins us. Hotch begins to fill me in on some of the details without going too much into it. We still have to brief as a team.

"I don't think I've ever heard of a vehicle being used as the weapon." I surmise.

"It's highly rare. I've never seen a case likely this first hand." Aaron admits and we discuss a few more aspects of the case.

Eventually the rest of the team trickles in and after some light conversation I go back to my desk. Garcia comes in stomping directly to my desk.

"What's up?" I ask.

"Kevin is looking into a working a secret job and I wont even know where he'll be!" She gushes.

"Slow down, he what?" I spin around in my chair. Garcia fills me in on the details of the job and exactly what he had said to her. The worry on her face is permanent.

"Don't worry yet. He hasn't gotten the job, and if he's offered, you don't even know if he'll take it! Lets just wait to worry once we have something to worry about."

Penelope nods agreeing with my words before moving onto Morgan's desk to do the same and I smile and shake my head. JJ pulls us all into the conference room.

"An unsub that kills with his car." Emily states, "I haven't seen that before."

"Neither have the police in Bend, Oregon." JJ replies, displaying pictures on the screen in front of us.

"Two victims in the last twelve days." Hotch adds, "First was hit on a morning jog and the second was a woman stranded after her car broke down."

"Both female victims, but completely different age groups." I speak up, "The first victim was 23 and the second was 43."

"Maybe they aren't connected." Morgan thinks out loud.

JJ pulls up more pictures and explains that both victims were backed over after they were hit. No chance of accident and the same tread marks at both scenes.

"With where these wounds are, the worst of the blow is high on the bodies." I comment looking through the file, "It has to be a truck or SUV to match these wound patterns."

"See if Garcia can follow that. Try tracking makes and models." Aaron directs.

"There should be significant front end damage to the vehicle." Spencer chimes in.

"Unless our unsub is smart enough and skilled enough to cover his tracks." I begin, "Somehow I don't think it'll be as easy as finding a damaged truck."

It's a five hour flight from DC all the way to Bend but thankfully it gives us all the opportunity to rest up again. By the time we land we can go straight to the police station.

"I think it's safe to say our unsub is male." I read over the case file, thinking out loud with Aaron. This is something new too, we often brainstorm together and work well to get the other thinking outside the box.

"I agree." Hotch nods, "Given what we know about aggressive driving and road rage."

"And the fact that men have an unnatural bond with their cars." Emily laughs. JJ chimes in to agree, which turns into Morgan disagreeing before Rossi is also adding to it.

"I think he has to be overcompensating. Why else have a need for a truck that big." I guess.

"Possibly." Spencer comments, "If the unsub is physically defective the car not only gives the power and control he otherwise lacks, but it also serves as a shield."

"A way for him to avoid physical contact?" Hotch asks.

"He wants power and control of his victims." Prentiss shutters, "Female victims. It almost reads like an assault profile."

"I wanna know why he isn't getting personal with it then. If this is how he assaults women, what if there's something that prevents him from going a more traditional route. It's possible he's disabled." I suggest.

Hotch tells Garcia to look into it to see if anything recent could be a trigger and to look at the people surrounding the victims. Morgan and Rossi head to the highway to get a feel for it and see what they can get from it from the second victim's scene. Hotch and I head to where the jogger was hit.

"Not a lot of people jog here. It's a physically demanding hike." The sheriff informs gesturing to the trail.

"Well, she was a triathlete." I remind.

"The assailant drove behind her and ran her down right here." The sheriff walks us in to where the red stained gravel remains.

"She was jogging alone? Any woman would know if a car was following her up the trail. Her intuition would've been driving her crazy. She would get off the trail or call for help."

"What if he was already here waiting." Hotch agrees, taking in the scene, "What if she was the reason he was here and it wasn't random. He was waiting for her specifically."

"That would mean we underestimated him. It wasn't a random attack, it was planned and vindictive.

The team meets back at the station to go over what we've discovered. The second victim's husband comes in and recalls seeing a large black truck parked by their house giving us something. This confirms that he's targeting and stalking specific individuals.

"Ready be done for the night?" Aaron asks, he peeks his head into the conference room that only I occupy at this point. The rest of the team has already gone to the hotel to call it a night, but Aaron was still talking with the husband and I was just pouring over people in the area that raised some of Garcia's flags based on what we know so far.

"I suppose." I close the file I had been reading and rub at my eyes.

"It'll still be there tomorrow." He reminds.

"I know, the sooner the better though." That's something I don't need to remind him on. We both know it all too well. With an unsub this aggressive we know he isn't stopping anytime soon.

The drive to the hotel is short and comfortably quiet. Neither Aaron or myself have the energy to discuss anything as we're going on a fifteen hour day.

"Goodnight, Y/n." Aaron carried my bag in from the car to the foot of my bed in my room, even with multiple reassurances that I could carry it just fine. I give him a soft knowing smile before he leaves for his own room.

The next morning it's discovered that the unsub sabotaged the second victims car in order to strand them. He's very focused and well planned.

"We need to figure out why he's picking these women." Hotch states, "What makes them a target and links them together."

"Road rage, maybe they cut him off at some point?" I question, "Also how does he have the time to stalking these women to know their routines, sabotage a car, park and wait."

"Roughly eight percent of the United States is unemployed." Reid rattles off.

"Including someone who could be disabled and lives off of a pension." I remind from my earlier guess."

"Have Garcia look into it." Hotch states before walking away and I smile.

"Pretty girl is on top of it this case." Morgan teases with a smirk.

"I don't know what you're talking about." I roll my eyes.

"Maybe it's something to do with her getting the case early and going over it with Hotch before our team briefing." Reid says with his nose already in a new file. I can feel my face turn a shade of red.

"Pretty girl is getting extra credit!" Prentiss joins in happy to tease, even adopting Morgan's typical nickname for me and Penelope.

"I don't know what you guys are talking about. I simply got in early and we were both at the office." I take a sip of my coffee, looking for any distraction, reaching out to grab a file for myself to ready through. I'm really glad that I didn't bring Hotch's travel mug in from the hotel, I still have it and I almost used it today. That definitely wouldn't go unnoticed with the people surrounding me.

Thankfully the team lets us move on and were able to brainstorm some more. Unfortunately it doesn't take long for JJ to interrupt to tell us there's been a third victim.

"Impact nearly cut him in two." The sheriff explains.

"Male victim?" I question as we arrive on the scene. The unsub hit him in a parking garage, pinning him between the truck and elevator doors. "He's getting more aggressive."

Cigarettes butts are discovered where the truck was parked in waiting. All of them stripped of the filter showing signs that he's military.

"Guys I think I know what ties the victims together." Reid interrupts, "All of the victims drove two door red coupes."

Garcia was able to look into car accidents that left someone injured enough to the point that he can't kill traditionally. He holds the person responsible for his accident for killing his loved one and his own disability. There's nearly twenty five people to still filter out off of the specifications we gave her.

"Wait you guys I think I found it." I sit up from the most recent file that had red flags, "Ian and Sheila Coakley crashed while driving home from Napa Valley on route 7 around midnight. It appeared their car was run off the road. His wife died at the scene."

"And Ian?" Rossi asks.

"He survived although he suffered a spinal cord injury."

Morgan and Prentiss go to his doctor to verify some information while we try to track down Ian. His house foreclosed after the accident.

"Track the parts for his specific truck. He's been doing his own repairs so they have to be sent somewhere." Rossi suggests to Garcia.

"Rossi gets a gold star!" Garcia sings, "He's having the parts drop shipped, I'm sending you guys the address."

"Hey, what do I get for knowing he would be disabled?" I jest, I called that from the plane.

"Nothing but my love, sugar." Garcia says before hanging up.

"I don't have a gold star, but well done Y/Ln." Aaron nods.

Arriving at the home Ian had been renting we find it empty but lots of surveillance photos of the victims and one other person who hasn't been harmed.

"Send this to Garcia now, we need to know who this is." Rossi hands me the picture. I send it to her and she's able to run his plate from the image.

It doesn't take her long to find him and contact his home, where she finds out that he's out biking with a group doing a thirty mile loop.

"Y/n, you're with me. We'll take the north side, Morgan and Rossi you start south and we'll meet in the middle." I quickly get in the passenger side of the SUV and Aaron takes off.

The biking club that target is in covers a lot of milage as Aaron speeds through the dirt road trying so hard to meet the group before the unsub does. Eventually we're closing in, but unfortunately the black truck is ahead of us and gaining on the bikers faster than we're gaining on him.

"Hold on." Aaron takes a risk by cutting Ian off before he can clip the mass of bicyclists. He does this by driving the front left corner of our car into the back right of his truck.

The airbags go off and were spun around from the impact.

"Y/n." Aaron calls. He says it a second time with more panic when I don't answer.

"I'm okay." I groan. The unsub is attempting to back his truck out of the ditch we're both stuck in to finish his mission. He took a much less impactful hit from our collision. I unclip my seatbelt and swing open my door, shattered glass falling from my lap as I stand up.

"Y/n, wait." Aaron instructs, he pulls hard on his seatbelt. It seems like he's stuck from the accident, but the worry on his face is only for me. I give him a look to say I've got this, while he continues to pull at his jammed seatbelt.

"Ian Coakley." I call out, and the man looks over to me briefly. It registers on his face that I am holding my gun and it's aimed for him, he has tears in his eyes.

"This is for Sheila." he floors it heading straight for the group that's waiting after witnessing the accident.

I plant my feet and aim for the back window of the truck, hoping to hit Ian's shoulder. Enough to stop him in his tracks before can harm anyone else without killing him. I've done enough killing myself over the years, and even with all he's done he's a man suffering with the grief of accidentally killing his wife.

The bullet leaves my gun with a loud crack, shattering the back window of the truck. He swerves but not enough to take him off the road. I let out a breath and fire again, this time sending a bullet into the back of his chair and sending his car off the road again to be stopped by a tree. I let out a huff of exhaustion from the impact leaning against the SUV.

Morgan and Rossi pull up and stop to get out and help Aaron and I after seeing our totaled SUV.

"Go" I wave them to keep driving to the unsub to see if he's ok and they do. Aaron manages to get out of the car finally, I hear Morgan call out to radio in an ambulance.

"He's still alive." Rossi shouts to us referring to Ian, they have him laying down now while applying pressure to his wound. The top of his shoulder which shouldn't be fatal, I sigh in relief.

"Are you okay?" Aaron asks finally rounding the back of the car to join me where I stand, he steadies himself. I nod, finally putting my gun away, feeling how stiff my body is.

Aaron fully ignores my nod, taking my head in his hands and pulling my eyelid open to check for signs of a brain bleed. He wipes at my forehead, pulling back his hand with blood on it. Maybe we were hit harder than I thought. Damn airbags.

"I think you have a concussion-" He states, "and you might need stitches."

The worry on his face is deep. I can feel the guilt radiating off of him, he was the one driving. He's the one that chose to hit the unsub's truck.

"I'm okay!" I reassure him, placing my hands on top of his that still rest on my head. This is crossing a new line. He's never touched my face, and I've never touched his hands like this.

"I shouldn't have done that. It was reckless."

"I'm glad you did." I disagree, "If we had waited any longer he would've been able to get his last victim. There's an entire biking club alive right now because of you."

This reminder seems to help slightly, he looks over my shoulder where the crowd remains. I pull him in for a hug, both of us shaking slightly from the adrenaline. After a while we pull apart, the rest of the team arrives as well as a couple ambulances. One takes Ian away immediately, escorted with two police officers as well.

"It took two shots? You're losing your touch." Morgan teases, thowing an arm around my shoulder that makes me wince a little. My phenomenal aim has always been a touchy subject with him, not liking being second.

"I'm concussed and he was driving fast." I defend, fully knowing how whiny I sound.

"Statically of our entire team Y/n would be the only one likely to have made that shot with the variable speed that Ian Croakley was traveling at." Spencer chimes in.

"I knew you were my favorite for a reason." I grin pulling Spence in for a hug effectively shaking off Morgan's arm.

"Yeah, whatever." Morgan shrugs, ruffling the hair in top of Spencer's head.

"Ma'am, you really need to get looked at." The emt reminds, interrupting our conversation. I leave the group and look over to see Aaron sitting on the back of one of the ambulances. We both finish getting evaluated, thankfully nothing too serious that we have to delay our flight home.

"You were right about the concussion." I grin walking up to Aaron as the sheriff walks off.

"And it would seem the stitches too." He reaches out again, thumb hovering over the threading sticking out of my forehead.

"Yeah, should make fore a pretty badass scar." I tease.

"I'm sure it will." He smiles, a real smile. The Aaron smile that I have seen so rarely, but more frequent lately. The plane ride back home is quiet, everyone drained, Aaron and I just flat out sore. By the time we get back to the BAU, Aaron sends everyone home saying the paperwork can wait for the following day. Everyone clears out and he goes back up to his office.

"Not following your own advice?"I question, walking into his office. I make my way round to his side of the desk and lean back on it. The edge of my thigh just barely meeting the outside of his arm from where he sits.

"Just wrapping up a few things before." He sets down his papers, his eyes raking all the way up me from toe to head, we both pretend I don't notice.

"You know, since I have a concussion they said I need to be under observation. No sleeping, crazy delusions, slipping into comas that sort of thing. You know anyone who wants to stay awake with me?"

"I can think of someone" He smirks, "I can put on a pot of coffee."

I pull out the to go mug he had brought my coffee in a few days ago out of my tote and hold it out to him.

"Take me home Aaron."

can communicate with spiders easily

really good at burrowing which doesn't sound like it would come in handy but it has in the most random situations

a really chill spider-man everyone likes him, even his villains

got bit at a young age and became a prodigy, now that he's older he kind of hates his name but is now branded

like cheol he only has the "normal" powers but he's still one of the best

he's so so so smart and uses his powers in ways people dont normally, he is in the front runnings for best up and coming spider-man

Xiao with a dog is definitely interesting. Before y'all started dating, you owned a dog you loved very dearly. You really didn't know how Xiao would react to it, but you were not giving the dog up.

"Mm. A dog, did you rescue it from the inn?" Xiao stared at you blankly with the look of "Get that shit out of here please and thanks" After a cough from you, you worked up the words of; "Well, I wanted you to meet my dog ____(Whatever you want the dog's name to be)" "Oh? It's yours. I was not aware you had one." He looked at the dog, and then back at you. His face eased up a bit. "Well, the inn allows pets, and I was wondering how you would feel if it started staying with us?" "That's fine. Are you sure it won't be affected by my adeptal energy?" He said dryly. "I don't think it will, but we will find out!" You smiled and walked closer to him. You intertwined your hands and thanked him. He let out a soft smile. "(Dog's name) is a really good dog, You'll love them!" He nodded his head in response, squeezing your hand tighter as the dog watched the two of you.

ANYWAYS. Flash forward a couple months after he accepted the dog, he takes full responsibility over the dog? Your dog? Naw mf it's his now 😈. With you going out on missions, you both took the time to train it to protect you, listen to many commands, stay by your side, and the dog has a very excellent sense of smell. If Xiao isn't there to protect you for a bit, he knows the damn dog will do his job. With that being said you're still his and he is not leaving you alone. He comes to like the dog a lot. Except for when the thing takes up the bed. When you're curled up In bed after a long day, he is looking forward to being with you and watching you sleep peacefully. However the damn furry thing is always next to you. He definitely feels a slight feeling of jealousy.

Kazuha

Kazuha is incredibly fond of pets, they had cats and dogs come and go off the ship all the time. Some of the crew mates even owned birds. When you brought up the topic you had a dog and wanted to bring it on the ship, he wasn't affected by it at all.

"Hey Kazuha?" You alerted your boyfriend who was writing. "What's the matter my dear?" His little names for you always made your heart skip a beat. This little fucker knows what he is doing. "Do you think Beidou will have any issues with me bringing my dog along with us on the ship?" He put his pen down and looked up at you, he made eye contact with you. "I don't believe she would have any issue. I remember you bringing up your dog before. You should ask her, personally I think your dog would be good company." He smiled and kept eye contact with you. Kazuha never broke eye contact. You would always have to.

After you got Beidous permission, (She was happy to bring your dog on board) The dog quickly met everyone, and started living with you and Kazuha in your room on the ship. The crew loved your dog, they gave it treats and made sure it was fed well. Kazuha wasn't bothered to take it on walks whenever he had the chance. It didn't have to be on a leash and it would follow Kazuha around. He liked the dog and its company, he also enjoyed how happy the dog made you!

Childe

Childe actually owned a dog when he was younger, before he joined the fatui. Nowadays he has no time for one. He can't keep the thing in the palace, and he is always busy with work and killing. How could a dog be of any benefit to him? He really does like dogs, but he didn't have the time or the effort to own one.

It had been a long day, your ginger boyfriend had a lot of debt collection, and you wouldn't be surprised if he killed a few people. Perks of dating a harbinger? You knew what he wanted after a long day, and that was either a long hug followed by a nap, or to come home and do something dumb with you. It was getting late, and you decided to walk over to your old house where your dog was. You lived with Childe, and in your old house. You and him both were surprised at how you knocked this tall bitch to the floor in one clean kick. "Damn, nice kick" He laughed and kissed your forehead, holding his back with a grunt. "Sorry about that, I mean you taught me to do this, don't blame me." "Yeah, I suppose so. However I did not teach you that one hell of a kick." He was going to be nagging you about the kick for ages. Claiming you broke his spine. In the middle of your conversation, your dog growled at the unfamiliar ginger you were kissing and laughing with. "Oh, a dog!" Your boyfriend said excitedly. "That would be my dog dummy." "YOU HAVE A DOG??" He was so happy.

You guys kept the dog, if he was by himself he wouldn't be able to take care of it, however he had you and he loved the dog. He was keeping the damn thing. It has come across many near death experiences but that's alright! It's still living under you and the idiots love and protection!

Scaramouche

To be completely honest, Scaramouche barely knew what a dog was. He didn't really get out of the palace, and if he did he was in inazuma for short amounts of time. He was incredibly familiar with kitsunes and foxes though. He wouldn't care for them, but he would see people feeding them and caring for them all the time. He didn't like having any more responsibility than he already had.

"Hey Scara?" "What is it?" He asked blankly. "I have a small inquiry for you." He looked up from the dresser he was standing at. "What would you think about living with a dog?" He coughed and then looked at you in disgust. He walked over to the chair you were sitting in and leaned over it, not touching you, but it was a small sign of affection when he was close to you. "I don't have any damn time for the thing, I mean you might but it would be difficult." He was being surprisingly nice on the matter. "Aren't they like taking care of kitsunes?" "I think so." You replied. He shrugged his shoulders and kept talking. "It requires a lot of time I don't have, it would probably be killed within days anyways." You coughed awkwardly. He knew something was up. "Well you see-" He rolled his eyes and let you continue. "I own a dog, and I was wondering if it could move In with us? I'm able to take care of it and I don't think it would get in your way." He touched your hair for a moment and then backed away. "I don't really care, it's not my responsibility and if it dies it won't be on me." You nodded and left the house to go retrieve your dog. He grabbed your wrist and spun you around. He kissed your forehead and walked with you. He's a flirt when he wants to be.

After y'all got the dog, things went on per usual, however the Scaramouche grew on the dog and the dog started loving on him. After he got home from work, the dog would wag its tail and want to play with Scaramouche. If you and Scaramouche where to go outside for a walk, Scaramouche would play with the dog for a bit, throwing sticks and balls for it. (Did he try to poison the dog? Yes.) The dog was like a child. He didn't like children. But he respected the dog on how protective it was over you and him sometimes. How it growled and backed up onto you in a protective order if something moved in bushes. He liked that in the dog.

Albedo

Albedo was incredibly fond of dogs. Klee loved them, and they were all around mondstadt. Animals in general were all around mondstadt. He didn't mind animals at all, they didn't bother him. There weren't many animals up in dragonspine to bother him too, so he didn't care too much. He knew how to care for dogs, as Klee had tried to raise one before.

Albedo was working in his lab when you quietly came through the door. Timaeus and Sucrose were in mondstadt handling business, leaving Albedo alone with you. He appreciated the alone time. You waited for him to finish up with his project and waited patiently on the chair. Once he was done he turned around and smiled in your direction, happy to see you. He walked over to you and placed a quick kiss on your lips. "Is everything alright?" He asked, genuinely concerned. The poor boy always thinks something is wrong. "No, everything is fine. I wanted to check in on you." You smiled holding his face. "I do have a question though." He raised his eyebrows, and nodded his head allowing you to proceed with your question. "Sooo, how would you feel about having a dog, specifically my dog, housed with us?" He tilted his head, as you let go of his face and thought to himself for a moment. "I suppose having a dog wouldn't be awful, but we are both busy and away from mondstadt a lot. Would we be able to house a dog here?" "I'm sure we could Bedo, we have basically everything we need here. The dog is really well behaved, so it won't get in your way. It can sleep in our room when we spend the nights here, it should be fine." He smiled and nodded. "That's fine by me, and should be fine by the others, we can go retrieve the dog over the weekend. I'm sure Klee will love to see it." You stood up and kissed him once more. "Thank you." You whispered.

Over the weekend, you snatched the dog and Klee FELL IN LOVE 👏👏. SHE LOVED IT. It was now Albedos dog as well, so it was her dog too! Albedo promised her to bring the dog down from the mountain everytime you guys returned. Back at the mountain the dog loved Albedo (Who wouldn't?) It would love Albedo, and walk with him outside all the time. After a while, Albedo would allow it into the lab, the dog would take naps in the corner while Albedo worked, and he really enjoyed the company when you weren't there.

🤩 Obviously, since it's me, this has to be about FireSky! 😅 I have two that I'm not, like, overly attached to, but that I find interesting/cute.

One is at least partially supported by a couple of very tiny canon details (there's a post I've been meaning to make for ages), and it's that Nathan and Keith might have actually joined the Hero TV roster at the same time (if so, probably, five years before the start of the show). They would have been the most unlikely pair of rookies ever (with neither of them having true rookie energy, to boot) and I live for the cute shenanigans that probably occurred in this scenario as they got to know each other and everyone else 🤭

The other, quite simply, is that since the cooking class was Keith's idea, he was also the one who signed them up for it... and he inadvertently picked a couples' class for them and just never realized 😂

I've already answered this (in a most conceited way, admittedly), so I'll go for another dream fic concept that isn't one of those I want to write myself (and which I've only just come up with, but that I already love): Tiger & Bunny, with of course a focus on FireSky, in space. Probably a Star Trek fusion? I can just see Keith being the too-selfless captain of a ship, and Nathan as the officer who worries about him and doesn't quite fit perfectly in the rigid structure of Starfleet, and... and I'm now headcanoning Trek races for half the cast and I think I should stop here, lol.

As for who would write it best... anyone who has the patience to, really. Which is definitely not me, alas 😂

What do you mean, it's an Indy line?! 🤩 (you know I love that blorbo too, I forever will, but don’t answer this if you don’t want to of course!)

my Indy nerd ass opening this ask like

Put most of it under a cut cause, well, it got stupid long and if no one actually reads this I won't blame them lol - My blog tittle is 'fortune & glory' which is a line from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I think it's maybe one of my favorite lines in the series because it, to me, displays how Indy wants to be seen, and shows the growth he goes through.

I think a lot of people forget/don't know that Temple of Doom is actually a prequel to Raiders. So when they watch it they go, "Oh wow this scoundrel never learned a thing opening God's Most Special Box and watching all those Nazi faces melt and he just left Marion again! What a cad!" But that's not true at all cause, in terms of story time-line, none of that has happened to him yet! So when Temple of Doom starts he is a brash, cocky, over-confident man.

He tells Short-Round at one point early in the film that everything they're doing, everything he's about, is for 'fortune & glory'. I think even his relationship with Short-Round early on is a great plot device demonstrating how much he changes as a result of the things that happen in the film. At first he seems kinda nonchalant, 'idk I picked this kid up, it's whatever, he's sorta useful' to literally risking his life to save him because he realizes they are important to one another.

But that's very much how he wants to be perceived. A swashbuckling, bravado machine, unburdened by the frivolity of emotional baggage. Which becomes even more poignant when we learn that his Mom left him at an early age and his Dad was largely uninterested in having a child. You could also argue that he is in search of his 'fortune & glory' to get the attention of his Dad.

But, by the end of the film, after he's gone through unimaginable horrors, he is changed. He has learned that there is far more to life, and to the field in which he has decided to dedicate his life, than his precious 'fortune & glory', and ultimately becomes a better person and I think establishes more of the growth we see from Indy in the other films. We still see him put on his mask of 'fortune & glory' but ultimately we know more and more that it's a mask and one he isn't so good at hiding behind anymore.

I feel like they did a very good job carrying that narrative through all the films, even DoD, which sees Indy again shifting into the swashbuckling, bravado machine but we know he is processing the loss of his son and ultimately still Loves Marion deeply and it hurts him to be separated from her.

just to add: There are, of course, criticisms to made about Temple of Doom, both culturally and thematically. A lot of people are put off by how 'dark' the subject matter is, and it ultimately did help usher in the PG-13 rating. I would not ever try to defend some the cultural aspects of the film, but thematically it's also interesting to know Spielberg went into making ToD after an accident on the set of Twilight Zone killed two people, including a child. (I have not listed their names here as I do not wish to have this come up if people serarch for them on this site as it would be disrespectful imo because this post in general is not about them) The themes we see in ToD about children being endangered and then, ultimately rescued, becomes a little clearer I think when viewed through that lens.

CD's Movie Poll #1 Winner

The Road to El Dorado

* fair warning: spoilers ahead *

Kicking off the start of my movie poll/movie watching series is Dreamworks’ The Road to El Dorado!

ngl this film has been on my watchlist for quite a while, and yet I never got around to actually watching it until now! (or rather, not until the other night lol) I’d heard so many great things about it before like the memorable characters, the kind of 2D animation that you really don’t see in Dreamworks films these days, and of course, the music!

I will say that I really enjoyed all three of those things in some ways and others 🤩

Right off the bat, Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh have really great chemistry! In fact, I loved their chemistry so much that I wanted to see footage of them recording their lines. so I legit looked up something like “road to el dorado behind the scenes” on youtube as soon as I finished watching the film and found that not only did they do ALL their voice recording sessions together in the same room but they also used plastic swords and playfully had it at each other!! AHHHHHH! so good!! 😂 ⚔️

but yeah they're hilarious! both on screen and behind it. I also just love the fact that both Kevin and Kenneth come from theater backgrounds cause I think that definitely added to how well they portrayed being con men 🎭

Ofc actors aside, some of you probably know this about me already, but I’m a BIG fan of dynamic duos when it comes to media...

I loved the straight man-ness that was Tulio, and he was probably my favorite of the two. I tend to like characters that find comfort in strategy, cause I tend to be that kinda person too. I know sometimes the logical and level-headed ones aren't always funny, entertaining, or the people to root for in the slightest. But Tulio definitely isn't one of them. I found myself chuckling at a good number of things he said and did like not believing in fate simply cause he relies on loaded dice for example, plus his sarcasm, and how much he tried to compose his patience as well

Miguel was great too! It was fun how much he loved the city of El Dorado and just wanted to take it all in, and his endless optimism of course! But he definitely needed more guitar playing scenes! idk there’s something about those characters who just have an instrument to play at the ready for dramatics that’s really humorous for me, it’s almost, if not totally, breaking the fourth wall in a way 😆

I also really enjoyed the Chief, I love how it’s implied that he knew all along Miguel and Tulio were humans and not gods and yet he still liked them and let them stay anyway. that said, it's kind of a shame that the pair didn't stay in el dorado cause there genuinely were people there who adored them when clearly the people of Spain didn’t…heck they didn't seem to have a problem that they weren't actually gods!

and you have to admit, Miguel and Tulio did match the stone art of the gods quite nicely, like the resemblance there was freaky 😳

Chel was great as well, her cleverness and way of sweet talking definitely stood out to me the most about her character, and I also really loved her voice! 😌

and Altivo the horse? I wanna say he was truly Miguel’s companion when compared to Tulio earning the heart of Chel. after all, Miguel was the one who wanted to rescue him and bring him along, and I was genuinely happy when they decided to bring him on their journey cause the horse wasn’t a bad guy, like he not only gave Tulio and Miguel the keys to escape the ship, but he wasn’t spiteful to them or anything. basically what I’m trying to say is he isn’t how Maximus treated Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert initially, horse to con man

As for the villain? well…this is the first of three times I’m gonna be saying, “I got some Aladdin vibes from this movie" 😅 👉👈 which isn’t completely a bad thing by any means! 

But yeah…I immediately got Jafar vibes the minute Tzekel-Kan came on screen (also I had to look up this name cause I didn’t catch it very well while I was watching this film, I just kept calling him “Priest Guy”)

I mean…the fact that he can do sorcery, on top of serving a sweet kind-hearted ruler, tangling with not just one but two thieves, anybody picking up what I’m putting down? Yeah that’s really all I gotta say about that guy 🤷🏻‍♀️

also I swear to god that Jim Cummings is in literally everything that was 2D-animated in the 1990s-2000s! and he's always gotta play that big tough guy. Again, that also reminded me of Aladdin. but then again the conquistador didn’t really have that big of a role in this, at the very least I just hope he gave T-K what he got coming to him

I guess just to get it out of the way, I was admittedly humming "One Jump Ahead" in the beginning when Tulio and Miguel are getting chased through the city, but that’s all there is in terms of Aladdin similarities the way i see it

lastly in terms of the characters and cast, I gotta give credit to Elton John for being part of it too! I mean who doesn't love a singing narrator? and he and Tim Rice did an awesome job crafting the soundtrack for this film. every song was absolutely BEAUTIFUL 🎶 ✨

Needless to say, the animation was 👌 and the opening sequence was definitely one of my favorites throughout the whole film as well as the expressions and the solid movements of the characters, very well done no question there. oh! and how there were just gold objects of anything from butterflies to apples in el dorado! they didn’t call it the city of gold for nothing! ✨✨✨

but in the end, did it really have go the route of the overall goal is get all the gold by the end only to actually lose most, if not all, of it by the end? I just feel like that plot line is done a lot in movies. tho to be fair, this was made in the 2000s so heck, it probably began that trend. But I’ve found in recent years that when it comes to treasure hunting movies, this exact scenario happens just repeatedly and it’s nothing new. I’d say movies like The Goonies and Uncharted are two that come to mind for me that have this happen...

Now there’s no way I can conclude my thoughts here without saying how AMAZING the “It’s Tough to Be a God” sequence was! I LOVED the “It's Tough to Be a God" sequence from the singing of the two leads to the colors to the everything about it, it was all magnificent! I'd arguably say it was my favorite scene in the whole film! And I'd be lying if I said that Miguel and Tulio’s version hasn't been stuck in my head ever since I watched it, because so help me it HAS and STILL IS and why that version is not on Spotify, I have no clue, but it SHOULD be. Again, props to Elton and Tim for writing this song and the others!!

So overall, I thought El Dorado was a great movie! It was definitely worth the watch! It's not perfect by any means, I'm not even sure it's my favorite Dreamworks film, but it was still very fun and entertaining all the same and I'm really glad that I finally got to see it after all these years! 🤗

Okay. Alright. Let's talk about this little shit.

I know who started this, but I still don't know how I even got here.

What am I even supposed to say here? I've at least been able to have conversations with my roommates about the fact that I'm not gonna be buying any of the comics involving him, this isn't gonna be Stephen Strange all over again. In fact, one of the things I specifically love about his MCU depiction - especially in TFATWS - is how particular he is about supremacy. Fuck the Nazis, great, but also fuck anyone who gets put on a pedestal until their flaws are forgotten about.

There's no pedestal for Zemo. He doesn't boast about his achievements. He expresses his opinions quite strongly, but when Sam points out the flaw in his logic about 'how gods talk' Zemo stops and reassesses. That is how strongly he believes that supremacy is a bad thing. He's willing to stop and reconsider.

I find his motivations fascinating, too. He specifies that what he did wasn't for Sokovia with a very 'fuck Sokovia' kind of feel to it when he did. His motivations are about the people he loves. And while I have my own headcanons about him being loyal to Sokovia until that loyalty to Sokovia meant him being away from his family when they died, and feel like the reason they had to make it about his family rather than about his country was because the moment it's about his family it's a 'selfish' motivation as opposed to it being for his country... I still find it all really fascinating.

This is a man who had one single goal, and it wasn't a grab for power. He didn't want power. He fulfilled his task and fully intended to die after completing it.

Zemo just fascinates me okay? He brings a lot of questions to mind about not just the Avengers but generally justice in the MCU and how people handle it. Plus, I've always been a sucker for someone who is morally grey, and willing to do the jobs no one else is willing to do.

As an interesting aside, let's talk about kill counts, for a second (and keep in mind that NO I am NOT saying this makes him a good guy, just how interesting this comparison is):

Over the course of CACW and TFATWS, Zemo's kill count totals 22. That's 19 in CW, and 3 in TFATWS. You can add the three Flag Smashers that died on his orders if you like, and say Zemo's got a kill count of 25 if that makes you happy.

vs Steve Rogers: 151

vs Tony Stark: 352

vs Clint Barton: 60 (probably more, given this listing doesn't take into account his Ronan kills)

vs Loki: 97 (this doesn't even include the random '80' from Avengers, and isn't entirely up to date)

... so then you have to sit there and ask, what makes one life more important than another? Zemo being sent to prison makes perfect sense. Someone else breaks him out of prison and so they send him to the RAFT? And we're not gonna talk about the human rights issues that are presented by the RAFT altogether, I ain't got time for that, but... big oof.

Zemo killed precisely the people he meant to, without collateral damage. He killed precisely who he needed to kill to accomplish his mission. The only people he killed otherwise were... the people he killed to protect Sam, Bucky, and Sharon. He could've not killed them but how would that have gone for the others?

Anyway, I love this man. I am obsessed. It's been a long ass time.

I have multiple ideas but one of them is:

The hero being the hero aka Prince Charming—solely because that's the hero's job, while the person who is rescued is the villain!

The villain is cursed to be a swan or frog because they're a villain and this is their punishment (Swan Lake or Frog Prince)

The villain is forced to work for supervillain and wants to be free (Cinderella)

The villain loses their super sonic scream after making a deal with another villain and has 3 days to complete a task to get it back but the other villain is ruining their chances (Little Mermaid)

1: The villain was turned into a swan after pissing off a wizard/witch for trying to steal the secrets of their magic for himself.

The villain is a distrustful sort of person who would gladly stab his teammates or leave them to the wolves if there's even a hint of them betraying him or something.

The villain knows nothing of love-kindness yes, but not love. His father leaving them when he heard of his mother's pregnancy and his mother hating him for it. The hatred that lead to scathing words and hatred filled gazes which later turned to physical violence upon his weak body.

The same mother who later passed massive debt in his name and threw him to the loan sharks to fuck off to who knows where. He hopes she died, the bitch.

He learned that trust, gets him nowhere in this world, and he resolved to get to a position where he was untouchable, no matter what atrocities he has to commit to do so.

For that, he needed magic. But, as you can see, he got turned into a swan trying to backstab the witch/wizard he was learning under. Who then later put him up for sale.

A curse where someone has to truly love him for him to become human again.

Yea right, the day someone loves him, is the day pig's fly.

That's where the 'Prince charming' comes in. Finding a dirt covered, filthy looking swan in a cage being sold. He took pity on the thing and bought it, wasn't ready for how beautiful it looked after a good washing though.

The swan is skittish and violent, but the prince isn't deterred. If it scares away the nobles, well, he'll turn a blind eye to it.

The villain is weirded out by the hero. As soon as he heard prince, he expected some snobby arrogant rich kid that'll kick him around as soon as he doesn't live up to his expectations. Or eat him or something.

He doesn't know which one he would have preferred. Except the hero is, not any of that really. He's kind, kinder than he should be to some random animal he found covered in filth sold by a bitch in rags and a giant hat.

If he starts being less violent around the prince. Well, that's everyone else's problem.

- I really liked his character in season 1! He was one of my favorites in that season,, but once season 2 and especially season 3 rolled around I stopped caring about his character since me and most of the fandom agreed on that a character that's based around Batman shouldn't have gotten that much story/screentime in a show named "Titans".

Seasons 2 and 3 really should have been about Kory and Gar, not side characters.

But in other media, I like Jason (especially in Under The Red Hood and Arkham Knight, I'll probably like him in Gotham Knights too) so it's really just the Titans version I'm eh on.

"I fuck with this aesthetic so hard"

- The Red Hood design, his vibe, and weapons are so fucking cool. I'm a sucker for anti-hero characters with their faces hidden and having weapons like blades. His whole vibe in Injustice 2?? It's so good 🤩🤩

I really like what I saw of his character in season 3 (when it wasn't "I wanna be Robin") but I'm gonna wait until season 4 to have a real opinion.

But I can say having him be Robin so soon is strange to me considering he's living with Dick, who just screamed at Bruce in season 3 about how he shouldn't be making kids Robin, but now Dick is gonna make a kid Robin??? Huh?? I know he lowkey did the same thing with Gar and Rachel with "kids shouldn't be weapons, kids shouldn't be superheroes" then immediately tells two children they have to train and become superheroes, but still.. I don’t get it 🤷‍♀️

- I do, I sure do, four years and counting of them. There's no way I could list them all, but my favorites (and that I consider canon in my brain) are:

the longer his hair gets the more shades of green appear in it

he actually has claws, fangs, and pointy ears but learned to shapeshift them away so he could look human enough to sneak out of Doom Manor and explore around town

isn't the biggest fan of superhero name Beast Boy and eventually changes to The Changeling

"Everyone else is wrong about them"

- this one goes out to the Shipping Side of the Titans fandom who only see Gar as a "love interest" for Rachel or the two grown men they ship him with, turning him into their personal lapdog and giving him no character other than that.

And this also goes out to the writers also since they're doing the same thing just without the romance part.

"Canon isn't real if I don't look at it"

- I just circled that to show that I do not care about the 500 times the show retcons itself. Every season they change something and it's annoying as fuck. Titans doesn't do consistency.

I loved that in season 1 all of Gar's animals are their own being with their own thoughts and emotions, they can control Gar but he can't really control him. They retconned that piece of information in season 2 + beyond and made Gar's animals "Gar but as animal" but I don’t care. I'm keeping it. Mainly since I only see season 1 as truly canon..

- he's a little shit, he's just a goofy guy, a bitchy bastard if he so chooses, and I love that for him 💚

- I sobbed when he died in 2x01.. like actually bawling.. thank god he's a slippery danger noodle and death lost grip of him.

Glad I PIQUED YOUR CURIOSITY 🥴. I'm going to address them by order of appearance because I've not much knowledge of the band and their names, so if you wouldn't mind telling me after the fact that'd be great ✨!

1. Oooookay, a two-toned pants moment. I also see he's got a fishing-net situation going on on his shoulder, and a nut-and-bolt ordeal on the vest.

The color palette? There's nothing wild going on, I like it! But the overall unity, I feel like he could've gave us more. The shirt bolts could have very well also embellished the sides of his pants, or even the waist area! Small details like that are more impactful to fashion thirsters such as myself.

That snake bracelet is totally random and can go somewhere far away, though. The wraps work well as just black, but a grey to emphasize his shoulder detailing wouldn't have killed anyone.

But the outfit does still work, it's just a bit bland to me.

2. Oh hey he's hot, but unlike the flames on his shirt alluded to, the outfit is not. I'm sorry but in comparison to what everyone else has going on, I'd swear he was a fan and not a member. It has no flare, it isn't doing anything for me.

Plus he's not coordinating omggg everyone's having a chest peak moment and he's there in a t-shirt. Without totally changing his entire look I can't really fix this as it is.

I would have gave him a vest similar to 1's with yellow lines going down the side like his pants, a yellow headband, he could keep the wrist wraps, and then possibly a some sort of dangle-necklace, those always work well when you've got your chest out.

Now this may make him look like he came right out of Stryper but 😩☠️ it'd of been cute.

3. OKAY A SINGLET-SHIRT, those and chest hair are always a happy couple, so I do like that. It also has a yellow-edge to match with 2's pants, and we're back to bolts to match with 1's vest.

I'm not feeling that mix-and match belt extravaganza. I can tell whoever did that thought it'd be extravagant, but it's out of place. A ring... And a square... And punch-holes... And diamond rhines... hahaha. Good-bye to the ringed belt, goodbye to the golden diamond rhines.

Keep the square buckle, replace the golden rhines with silver sequin, because the base of the shirt is sequin and silver bolts.

Take away whatever that extra shirt is under the main shirt, and make that glove black with yellow trim. I get he's coordinating the white with 4, but if we're talking a stand alone outfit choice, GOODBYE!

4. He's adorable first of all 🥴✨, and frankly the only thing I'm really not into about his outfit is the belt. It's tacky, I would have put him in a more glam chain-like belt made of bolts. But his outfit works in its own sense, the wrist wraps, the shirt style, everything. Maybe a white line going down the sides of the pants if you wanted to get fancy, but it really doesn't need it.

5. Not him being sexy and having a sexy outfit! It's like his outfit has all the elements I gave to everyone else's COMBINED, I LOVE THE DIRECTION OF IT!

Not digging the purple as far as coordination with his other members goes, no one else is in purple and it's making me tick. Well.... wellllll, a darker black-purple?! I just don't like the brightness of the purple, it isn't ugly but it just doesn't please me.

A darker color would've made the little yellow detailing pop more, which would have been hot. But again I do actually like the design of it, I can't get mad at it.

Oh before i forgot, in my opinion i think we might be too hard on ourselves, such as thinking of one's self to be lowly and yet others see us to be great. I could relate to that too :') but i'm starting to learn that i'm worth than what i think i am and i'm already doing great despite me not being productive at all. about the childe thread: i reread it in class and had to hold my laughter the entire time 😂 op really did put their heart and soul into this. the one thing i don’t agree is about the first one - i was actually surprised to see how tall childe was in game when i first met him ���🫣 now itto has the post of tallest character but that’s a whole different story. i think the ones that made me giggle the most were the obvious ones like ‘childe can talk to people 28 different ways’ or this one bc honestly i agree?? 🧍 thank you for sharing it with me!

about the bnha test… i got hitoshi too 🫠 no need to share the description. i’m glad you think it’s scarily accurate bc bro the way i screamed when i got my result. i was like ‘nah it’s probably gonna be someone i don’t care about’ and i was so wrong. when i redid it with my second choice options i scored midoriya, and uh. his would also work, except midoriya is a lot more manipulative?? 😵‍💫😵‍💫 i guess anyone who deals with insecurity themes would work for me. given the lil cough you left there, is it wrong of me to assume you’re generally insecure? 👀 also yes!! practice self-love!!!!!! insecurities can be crippling and it’s ok if you don’t deal well with them, but being kind to yourself makes it easier. self-compassion, as my therapist would say 🥰🥰🥰

yeah, as much as i hate to say so, classes really are scattered… and then in my school there’s always one day labeled as “hell day”, which is a day that starts at 8am and ends at 10am with virtually no breaks between classes. for me, it’s wednesday; honestly i have no idea how university works in other countries, aha 😅

i agree with your opinion. i had coffee with a friend on wednesday after a rare break between classes and we were talking about this - self-worth and other people’s opinions and stuff like that, and the truth is we really are worth more than what we think, and that being productive doesn’t define us as more or less worthy. just being here, just existing, being alive, already makes us worthy. it makes me so happy read you’re learning to love yourself and seeing your own worth!!
