The Mage and The Master: Sneak Peek of Double-Chapter Special 2/2

Hello Once Again to everybody following my blog and my current fic "The Mage and The Master" on Archive of Our Own! Please enjoy a snippet of Chapter Four: "Hunting The Demogorgon," set to debut right behind Chapter Three as a special double drop on May 24th, in observance of Memorial Day Weekend & National Brother's Day!

Chapter Four: Hunting The Demogorgon

Donnie was straining, trying to force himself through an unknown but obviously tight opening from however far away he was appearing from Eleven’s position. She broke into a run after taking in the sight for two seconds too long, throwing all of her energy into each step towards him, not even dividing any of it to yell to get his attention. She did begin to yell his name when she reached within maybe less than twenty feet of him, but he was already beginning to vanish, vaporizing into aging grays and whites before those too disappeared within the lightless void around them both. She threw her head around, hopelessly yelling for any response she tried to imagine would return to her. “Donnie! Donnie! Donnie, where are you? Donnie, where are you?!?” A slopping, loudening series of steps began to sound somewhere behind her. Eleven twirled around, staring at the empty blackness before her, holding up both arms to protect herself, wiggling all ten of her fingers to kill the escalating tension and stay focused. A horrifically familiar growl began to sound, and she froze, shifting her weight to the balls of her feet, as if preparing to pounce. She could see the Demogorgon…walking away from where she was. She didn’t dare go try to touch it. Its claws were clanking on whatever surface it stepped on, which was nothing she remembered from when she had emerged from the gate within the Minotaur Maze. She began to hear several beeps within the back of the void as well. “Guys?” April’s voice was sounding off, uncertain too. “I see it.” Eleven spoke, remembering April’s surveillance device, throwing away any concern and unease for turning away from whatever danger Donnie had to be facing. “Is there anything you’re seeing out there?” Casey’s voice slowly etched in, skipping a little, but steady enough for Eleven to understand. “They’re saying it’s the 9th floor.” “So it’s beneath us.” Sunita’s voice clarified in succession. “Yes.” April’s voice confirmed. “We can take it.” Cassandra’s voice proposed, steely and inspiringly vicious. “No,” April immediately refused “we’re not splitting up, and especially not before El is done." “There’s also something…” Eleven spoke again, watching the Demogorgon growl and survey whatever room it was in. “I need to get back to-” An eruption of bright green light appeared from behind Eleven, paired with a choral-shrieking whir, and she spun around to find herself drawn towards a giant glowing circle of fluctuating white and even more shades of green. Panicking, she fought to bring up any of her arms, throwing herself into memories of Hopper’s Eggos, Days with Mike and Comics with Max. “NO!” Her right arm had finally drawn up against the unseen force, poised to strike back at whatever was pulling her in. A woman appeared before her, dressed in a complete robe and fight suit layered with as many greens, grays and whites that had been enveloping Eleven’s entire surroundings. All of her black hair was tied into a high ponytail, and her face was tiny but sharp and gripping, like the dolls on display from that one antique shop she had gone to in Lenora Hills. The woman’s blue-grey eyes were so soulful, that Eleven almost lowered her arm. She was still less afraid when the woman glided over to her, her expression growing in worry the closer she got, until she stopped to hover within inches of Eleven. “My boys are in danger, Jane Hopper.” Eleven’s lungs stilled, all other sensations drowning out from the presence of this stranger that knew her name. “I need you to get ready to bring them together again.”

The Mage and The Master: Sneak Peek of Double-Chapter Special 1/2

Happy to be back, y'all!

Writing & Editing is still underway for The Mage and The Master, and I'm happy to give you the first of two snippets that await you when Chapters Three and Four drop next Friday! Sit back and let the hype build ELEVEN days prior to new content, as we enter the final ten-day countdown!

Chapter Three: “Past and Present vs. Future”

“So how do I draw him in?” Cassandra’s edge snapped their trance, turning all attention back to her, her confident aggression returning in full, unapologetic flair. “What must be done to PULVERIZE THE FOE THAT IS HUNTING MY SON?” Everybody glanced back at either Casey or Eleven. Eleven turned towards Casey, wishing that she had a better idea than what she was going to ask him. “Casey?” Casey turned towards her. “Yes?” Eleven took a deep breath, bracing for any blowback that had to come from this. “We might have to let Vecna take you.” The air in the room completely died, and Eleven refused to sneak any glance at whoever’s face that had to include as much confused horror as the young man in front of her. “What-” Casey was beginning to lose breath “What do you mean he ‘needs’ to take me?” “We need to have him take you,” Eleven annunciated as well as she could balance gentleness with firmness “so I can fight him through you.” She finally gathered up the courage to turn around at everybody in the room, staring back at the two of them in deeply frightened surprise. Splinter’s and Donnie’s faces were starting to fail hiding their fury. Everybody in Hawkins would’ve begun yelling at her if she ever suggested doing this. But Eleven stuffed the shame down, replacing her accusatory thoughts of carelessness and selfishness with truths that there was immediate access to music so that Casey’s odds of survival were completely guaranteed and not left to chance the way Max’s were. Is this how Hopper had felt when he had made plans with all of them? Putting her or anyone else at risk, even though there was no other way? Or, if they were ever truly good, what Papa and Henry would’ve felt while instructing her and the rest of her lab brothers and sisters? The image alone of her repeating their actions would’ve made her vomit if she was alone. But she wasn’t. And this time, she was in immediate approximation to whoever was in danger. This would work. It had to. She turned back to Leo, keeping her eyes on his own painfully betrayed but wholly respectful expression as she finished addressing the room. “And I need all of you to listen to me and help me if this is going to work, and if we’re going to get him out of there.”
