My WIP today comes from chapter 52 of OWHAS (Star Holder), so these are spoilers for that <3 Chapter comes out tomorrow!

"What are you doing in the office? The sun has barely risen." Eclipse strolled into the room immediately, pushing a cart laden with treats.

"I wanted to get a head start on this work so I wouldn't have to take dinner in the office again," you shrugged, glaring at the parchment in your hands.

"You missed breakfast." Leaving the cart aside, Eclipse walked up to your desk and gently took the quill from your hands.

"Forgive me," you sighed, "it slipped my mind with all this-

"I think you have done quite enough." His voice lowered, expression twisting with worry, "you've done very little aside from work since returning to the palace. We're concerned."

"I know," you sighed again, "but there's so much to do and- and if I don't help, it'll just take even longer-

"I understand your eagerness, but our problems are not yours to solve," Eclipse set the quill into the inkwell and took your hands into his own. "However, I didn't come here just to talk. I'm firing you."

"What-

Grinning, Eclipse scooped you up from the chair. You wriggled, trying to grasp the desk and stop him. A baffled laugh escaped you.

"What?!" Your legs swung fruitlessly as you struggled not to laugh. "You can't fire me!"

"I'm afraid we've found a replacement, and your services are no longer required," he explained, laughing along with you. "I assure you it's nothing personal."

"I'm beginning to suspect it's very personal!" You gave in struggling, letting your head rest on his shoulder. Eclipse gingerly shuffled you about in his arms.

"Forgive me for teasing you," he grinned, the light of his rays washing over you. Claws brushed tenderly over your cheek. "You just looked so serious."

"I was working," you crossed your arms.

"Now, now, don't look so sullen," Eclipse set you down with a chuckle, "everyone appreciates your hard work. But I didn't go to war with my own brother just to see you while away your days in an office."

"Oh, no?" You quirked a brow, unable to keep the smile off your face. "Then what is it you were hoping would happen?"

Eclipse looked down at you for a long moment. He nodded, setting you on your feet. Your heart leapt into your throat when he knelt before you, taking your hand.

"I'm hoping you'll run away with me." He grinned up at you.

i really appreciate this bit here. senshi is sensitive to izutsumi's eating habits, and rather than admonishing her or punishing her, senshi works to make sure she's fed in a way that aligns with her needs, even if those needs are just variety in this case. it really shows how much senshi is dedicated to making sure his group is fed and likes the food they're eating, taste being just as important as nutrition, by recognizing their likes, dislikes, and limits

well, I can't say I expected the new chapter to feature Idia (metaphorically) going to (metaphorical) hell, getting a pep talk from his (metaphorical) Phantom brother which helps him finally move on once and for all from his brother's death, and (metaphorically) overblotting again to fight his way back out of (metaphorical) hell, only to have his darkest fear (non-metaphorically) come true when his mom goes through his computer and finds all his secret files. but I am glad it did!

also this is all a flashback for the purpose of explaining to our group what the heck is going on (whether or not any of it is getting through is another matter)

While it's different from my usual style I really loved how this came out! #Strolling back to the art scene to remind everyone I am still a lover of botanicals. #I had a blast with the symbolism for this one: #White lilium longiflorum (easter lily) for rebirth. Purple hyacinthus orientalis for sorrow and forgiveness. #Red spider lily (Lycoris radiata) for loss and death. #'Rebirth into something new' is so well done in Dungeon Meshi. She is back but she is not the same. #The last few episodes/chapters gives her this dreamy quality to her. As if she's not quite real. She's so perfect in their memories. #And as we know of dreams - no matter how sweet- they must end once we wake up. #It is so painful to lose someone twice. To see someone you loved in a dream and wake up and remember that loss again. #Dungeon Meshi being a grief allegory is important to me. I'll explain more as the story continues B'*)
