This is a rather fascinating read. It’s a cocktail recipe book, and a bit more than that.

“Field Guide to Hendrick’s: Vol. Two”

I love Hendrick’s gin and I have every bottle so far from their cabinet of curiosities. This was on the shelf of a used bookstore for like $2 so of course I had to!!

Various recipes for cocktails, a little bit of history on Hendrick’s, and some other interesting information. Honestly a darn good deal.

#i just now learned theyre called lenticular bookmarks i always just called them 3d bookmarks #i was fascinated by these as a kid and often thought abt how cool it would be to make one myself #i had no idea how people made them it was kind of just magic to me lol #need to find a printing service that isnt crazy expensive to i can fulfil this childhood dream #just looked up if they still do scholastic book fairs and they do!!! #they need to start doing this in high school and college #prestigious schools too they should be selling novelty giant pencils at harvard

As dads, both Steve and Eddie are total suckers. They're pretty much guaranteed to give in to any and all whims their daughters may have. They will also, however, make them work for it, which is usually facilitated by Steve (and serves as prime entertainment for Eddie, who has adored watching Steve try to hold his own against smart-ass teenagers since they were teenagers themselves)

This is why Eddie is absolutely delighted when he walks into the kitchen to see that Steve is on the phone with their middle-daughter Robbie.

“Robbie,” Steve says, cutting himself off with a long sigh, “Just tell me why I’m sending you seventy-five dollars.”

With a grin, Eddie settles in at the counter. Steve rolls his eyes, pointing at the phone as if to say get a load of this.

Then his eyebrows fly up.

“You need seventy-five dollars to go get your nails done? What, are they gonna take your midterms for you too?”

She isn't on speaker so Eddie doesn't catch Robbie's exact response to this, but whatever she says is loud enough that he can hear her voice coming through the phone.

"Amelia Robin," Steve cuts her off, "I will think about it. It's time for you to start thinking about getting a job"

Robbie must make one last desperate attempt because Steve says, "Goodbye, my darling girl who only calls when she wants something."

Steve hangs up and immediately points at Eddie as if this has something to do with him.

"Sinclair's boys don't put him through shit like this," he says, "I asked. All they ever want from him is food and Xbox subscriptions."

"Must be nice."

"Remember when the only time she asked for money was for the Scholastic book fair?” Steve asks, “Damn, I miss those days.”

"You're still gonna send her the money, though."

With a resigned sigh, Steve says, "Yeah."

I personally love to see differences between the show and the books

It’s not just an exact adaptation, it change to follow a new public, new ideas from the author(s)

It’s not a carbon copy of the books, and that’s not what we need, if we want the books we read them, here it’s a little different, it’s new, and I like that, a lot

I love to rediscover the story that I grew up with, it’s the same and at the same time some things are different and it just feel great to discover without knowing exactly everything, being able to talk with my friend who never read the book, telling him what is different, what isn’t in the show or what wasn’t in the book

I just love the show and living all the emotions like I did the first time when I read the book

i like the natsume dub, but i'm glad i watched it with subs first. for one thing, the japanese voice acting simply cannot be beat. for another, the dub translates nicknames into english - for instance, the little tatsumi that hatches from an egg, turning natsume into a teen dad, is called "eggy" in the dub instead of "tama" (which unless i'm mistaken is a shortened form of the japanese word for "egg") - which isn't a bad thing, but it does end up creating the possibility of a little misunderstanding once you get to taki's first episode. because if you couldn't hear the japanese, and you were accustomed to characters getting jokey english nicknames like eggy, and you heard that a character who hadn't talked for almost a year was named something that sounded phonetically like "talkie", would you assume that she had a completely different name in japanese that was a pun on the japanese word for "talk"? because that's probably what i would have assumed lol. but luckily i watched it in japanese with subs first, so. crisis averted!

#natsume VO: everybody talks‚ but for nearly an entire year‚ that 'talkie' girl tried not to. <-what it sounds like he's saying in the dub #you can practically hear the air quotes #especially because when it's her first episode you have no idea that she's about to become a recurring character #she could be another one-off guest character natsume meets once and maybe encounters a second time three seasons later #as opposed to his new best friend. you don't know that in her first episode #so given that this could be her only appearance...it wouldn't be that crazy for her to have some novelty name For The Lulz #like i probably would've watched the whole show thinking ah yes here is Natsume & his friends Tanuma Nishimura Kitamoto and Talkie #i would have come on here and made a total fool of myself spelling her name like that #people would have been like tf are you talking about dude #i'd be like you know‚ the girl with the spell circles? #and they would have been like DO YOU MEAN TAKI????? #i would have had to retire. never show my face here again. #natsume's book of friends #translation #names #puns #my posts #natsume yuujinchou #taki tooru #watch me write this whole thing about how the dub makes it possible for you to think her name is a pun when it obviously isn't #and then have a japanese speaker come on here like 'actually 'taki' IS a pun in japanese. the dub perfectly translated this joke' #that would be so funny. what if
