This is the final set from the Book of Days volume 6 and from the attempted daily drawing through the nightmare year of 2020. There is still more to come from that year but the Book of Days project finishes here. The first is a Chinese Feng Shui door knocker which is believed functions like a gargoyle in western medieval magical thinking by appearing so fierce it frightens away evil spirits. I love the polished surface of the bronze and had attached it to my front door to prevent harmful things like the pandemic. After a year of horror I’m not sure the door knocker or the gargoyle on the other balcony are particularly effective but both look nice and were patient enough to stay still for a drawing. The second page is another self portrait using leftover paint that was blue. It was painted while listening to the nightmarish Radical Dance Faction when their song Rogue Trooper came on so I adapted it to be a self portrait as Rogue Trooper. I haven’t had that hair cut for years but drew it in for the cosplay of the situation. Next is another protector - a line drawing of the head of Medusa I am building for #earthmoves in Wallasey. Finally, the last drawing from this project, a glimpse of the outside world. The Continuing Ed building at the uni with the shoulder of the Metropolitan Cathedral. I understand that the outside world still exists but my faith in it may require some proof at some point. I WENT OUT

Even though I had topics to review for exams. I had to go out. I had to see what the world was like. No not see---more like, remember, because being inside almost made me forget that there was still something beyond my problems, my worries, and doubts. It was so easy to get lost in them. And for me, I wasn’t just lost. I was drowning for days. Anxiety had its claws on me, and all I could think and feel was the pain. All I could hear were my worried thoughts. They were so loud, as if my problems were fighting one another in my head. Which didn’t really help because I was fighting to stop the noise. But it was still there. It was there when I ate, when I had to study, even when I had to sleep. The worst part was waking up with it. I felt so tired and alone even when I wasn’t. There was this constant sadness hanging over me all the time that it seemed as if my happiness was lost, as if something was stopping it from coming back to me. Even I myself seemed lost. The anxiety that I felt made me forget who I was. 

It was only then when I was outside, when I saw the skies again, that I remembered. 

I could breathe. For days, all I could see were my fears. But as soon as I was was out, my focus changed. I remembered who I used to be. 

Gradually, my anxiety went away. Off somewhere I don’t know. 

And I am so glad. Im free of it for three days now.

It was raining when I went out though. And all I could think was that I’d rather feel the rain’s saddness than my own. I’d rather be inside a curtain of storms than being inside my anxious mind.
